WAIT DO YOU HAVE A CONDOM?!?!!!
Has anybody ever thought about when MC and their respective suitor started getting intimate, and MC's brain goes straight to "wait-do you have a condom?" and they're just like "....wut???" Like you went from 21st century to the 16th or 19th century, so you have to stop them and explain to them the uses of condoms and what it's for. Like:
~~~
MC: Wait!
Nobunaga: ?
MC: *automatically* did you bring a condom?
Nobunaga: ?????
~~~
MC: Wait!
Leonardo: ?
MC: *automatically* Do you have a condom?
Leonardo: .....a wut?

The Act (Ikemen Sengoku)
Pairing: Yukimura Sanada x MC (Mai) Summary: Mai seeks out Yukimura's help for something that she feels only he can help with - tricking Shingen.
Word count: 1.1k
Request:
51.🤞 must pretend | spy | secret identity | identity reveal | undercover | fake dating | secret relationship | fake-married | fake [insert role] | essentially, they must pretend to be somebody they’re not/to be in a dynamic they’re not
A note from the author: Not me returning from the dead after a year away LOL - anyways, this was written as a request from @/belovedstill's prompt list. Requests are still open if you would like to send something in for ikevamp, ikesen, or ikepri! Thank you @belovedstill for this lovely list and prompt, I loved every second of this!
“What do you mean, ‘Yukimura, I need you to pretend to be my fake lover to get Shingen to take a hint.’?” Yukimura and Mai were enjoying some late afternoon tea in his room, when Mai had proposed this idea to him rather nonchalantly. “Are you crazy? He can read me like an open book. He also knows I’d never date an ugly boar woman like you.”
Mai huffed, blowing air out of her hair, making her bangs fly up and lay askew on her forehead. “Don’t say it like that Yuki! Learn some tact, wouldya?”
“Oh shaddup Mai,” Yuki said, gesturing at her with his full teacup. “You know it’s true!”
“It isn’t true and I’m not a boar woman!” Mai argued, her brow furrowing in frustration. “I happen to be a very graceful woman. Like… like a swan!”
Yuki snorted into his teacup. “Yeah, that works.” He leaned in closer, glancing at her neck. “You do have an abnormally long and curvy neck.”
Mai’s cheeks flushed in embarrassment, the way they always do when she gets into a heated argument with Yukimura. He always found a way to get under her skin, and she usually finds herself wondering just why she chooses to spend so much time with him when he’s back in Kasaguyama. This time was no different.
“Yukimura, I’m serious! Shingen won’t leave me alone. He’s constantly calling me a princess, or a goddess, or his angel. I want him to stop!” Mai slammed down her teacup a little too hard, forcing the table to wobble more than Yukimura would’ve liked. “He’s all bark and no bite. Just smile nicely and move on.”
She looked at him with wide eyes, almost panicked - like a deer in headlights. “But he has tried to bite me! Quite recently, might I add.”
“He’s old, probably turning senile too.” Yuki responded, reaching for more hot water to warm his tea that had turned cold. “And shouldn’t we do everything we can to make sure grandpa’s are happy in their old ages?” There was a hint of sadness in Yuki’s eyes as he looked intently at the floor, and Mai dropped whatever retort she had as Shingen brazenly waltzed into Yukimura’s room, pausing only slightly when he noticed Mai sitting nonchalantly on his friend’s floor. “Well, well, well. What do we have here? Yuuuuki, you didn’t mention anything about having any female visitors this afternoon.”
Shingen’s shark-like, suave grin had Mai rolling her eyes, biting her lip so as not to snap back at Shingen. She was in Yukimura’s room, and they were good friends so she wouldn’t disrespect Yuki like that, as much as she wished she could. So, Yukimura’s response to Shingen had Mai, whipping her head up to stare wide eyed at her friend. “Please don’t disrespect Mai like that again, Shingen. The woman I love is more than just a female visitor, maybe you were mistaking me for you?”
Shingen faltered slightly, his grin slipping for a moment before returning. “The woman you love, eh?” He questioned, bringing his hand up to rub at his chin. “And don’t think I didn’t hear you insult me. I’m just in a particularly good mood today and will let it slide.” His gaze fixed on Mai now. “Mai, you didn’t tell me that you and Yuki had this… relationship. No wonder you never took me up on any of my nightly invitations.”
Before Mai could lose her courage, she shoved her hand into Yuki’s, gripping his calloused hand in her own sweaty one. “Yup! I couldn’t betray my Yukimura like that. Sorry Shingen, I should’ve been more honest. My sweetie pie is just very shy, as I’m sure you know well. Right Yuki?”
“Hey! I’m not your–” He cut himself off as Mai dug her nails harshly into her skin, shooting daggers at her before plastering the fakest smile on his face she had ever seen. “You’re right, boo bear. I was a bit embarrassed to admit my feelings for Mai to you, Shingen. That’s why I asked Mai to not mention anything. We’ve been meeting late at night every night, but today I couldn’t bear to wait any longer to see her, so I asked her to meet me for some afternoon tea.”
“I see,” Shingen nodded, eying their tightly clenched hands. “It seems as if I’ve interrupted something, so I’ll leave you two lovebirds to it. Yuki, you know where to find me if you need any tips or suggestions on how to keep a woman happy.” “Goodbye, Shingen.” Yukimura dismissed his elder, his eyes not once leaving Mai’s face as his grip on her hand loosened into a gentle hold.
“Goodbye, you two.” Shingen turned away, and as he exited the doorway, he called over his shoulder. “By the way, if you want anyone to actually believe you two are in love, you better start working on your acting.”
Shingen’s laughter could be heard from down the hall, and Yukimura hastily jerked his hand away from Mai’s rubbing it on his kimono. “Your hand was so sweaty! It was gross!”
Mai recoiled, shoving her finger in his face to point at him. “Yeah well, we wouldn’t have had to hold hands if you didn’t decide to pretend to be in a relationship with me!”
“You asked me to, woman!” Yukimura swiped Mai’s hand away from his face, capturing her hand in his once again, and clumsily interlocking them. “And this is how you hold hands! Not whatever you tried to do before!”
“Why are you always so critical of me?!” Mai asked moving to stand up and rip her hand out of Yukimura’s. He didn’t let go though, instead opting to use their linked hands to tug her back down, tumbling into his lap.
“Because you’re a boar woman, and someone’s gotta keep you in check.” Yukimura’s voice was deeper now, his lips brushing against the shell of her ear. “Plus, you seem to like it. Always asking to spend time with me.”
“I–” Mai faltered, turning to meet Yuki’s gaze, not realizing just how close he had gotten. “You’re just sometimes more tolerable than the rest, is all.” Yukimura squeezed her hand, and a surge of electricity shot through her body. “If I’m tolerable, you should reevaluate your taste in company. Sounds like we need to get you more air.” “Hey Yuki,” Mai muttered, their noses so close they were almost touching.
“Yeah?” He whispered back, his eyes searching her own for any sort of clue as to what she was gonna say next. “Shut up!” She exclaimed and shot up from his lap, escaping from his grip as giggles bubbled from her lips while he scrambled to chase after her, muttering under his breath that he was gonna get her when she least expected it.
On the other side of the wall, unbeknownst to Yukimura and Mai, Shingen and Sasuke stood shoulder to shoulder, exchanging knowing looks as they heard their two friends’ laughter ringing through the hallways of the otherwise quiet castle.

Witch of Penchant
Prologue: Part 1/4
Shingen x MC (Mai)
the thread of INSPIRATION | Next
Logline - A women in nuns clothes, with an unsettling resemblance to a fox, the witch of Honno-ji, has traveled back in time to an era she has already lived through. She accidentally saved the life of Nobunaga Oda, but now she wonders how else the past has changed.
2200-ish words
Nobunaga scolded him. “Let her be. Her name is Mizusaki Mai. Oh yes and she saved my life.”
Mitsuhide looked surprised, wide eyes, “You saved Oda-sama’s life…?” snakey smile, “And you’re such a slender thing. but it appears your courage makes up for it.” Mai rolled her eyes, returned an equally disturbing, but unusually toothy smile, scoffed, then continued scanning the scene.
This starts as you would expect it, a woman and man find themself at a lonely stone monument as the rain starts suddenly. Although, this is not an unusual spot for the woman to be; witches like her throughout time and space have been the protector of rifts, weak spots in the fabrics of reality. Mai sighed as the undergrad fell through the wormhole before she dived in after him. She would have liked to return him to his time more immediately, but he apparently distracted her enough that she appeared 4 years after him. Oh well…
Mai soon found her vision to be quickly obscured with streams of billowing hot smoke. The Honno-ji shrine came into view around her, currently in flames. An armor suited man sat asleep amidst the chaos. In the year 1582, betrayed by Akechi Mitsuhide, Oda Nobunaga committed seppuku amidst the fiery wreckage of Honno-ji. Or that was how the past played out when she successfully protected the rift from mortals. With the young man nowhere in sight, she infrured he fell into some time before, and the effects of such meant it was nothing like the first time she lived through it.
A man (presumably Oda Nomunaga) dressed in a suit of ancient Japanese armor was sitting on the floor, head tilted down in sleep. Another man holding some kind of walking stick approached the unconscious man. As Mai’s watery eyes squinted in the smoke, she recognised the gleam as that of a sword. Sparks from the flaming paper walls illuminated the sharp edge of the raised metal blade.
With a sharp intake of the oxygenless air, the witch bellowed a wordless cry at the armored man. Typhoon force winds suddenly blew from her mouth, and the man slammed through the paper walls out of sight. The sword clattered to the ground in a cruel imitation of church bells. Mai heard him scramble for the blade before fleeing.
She hurried over to and crouched beside the unconscious man and shook him urgently. He finally woke, eyelids lifting lazily, ”Who are you?” he sputtered out into the smoke.
“No time for introductions. Come on, let’s get you out of here!” Mai said with a chuckling tone. Mortals were always so confident in their self importance.
"Take my hand!” He obeyed, grabbing her hand. She shifted her weight before hauling him to his feet.
Concerning shapes flitted by in the edges of the pair's vision. They were ignored in favor of an exit. The wooden stairs won’t hold much longer.
The exit came into view! The pair burst through the door, into the refreshing, blessed cool night air and barreled down the path, far from the smoke and flames.
The temple was being engulfed by uncontrollable flames. The man glanced at the destruction before his eyes came to rest on the women in front of him. “Someone tried to do away with me while I slept,” he began, “Audacious but foolish. Killing my guards and getting that close to me is another matter.”
So those shapes had been guards-Mai sighed, she had been too distracted, if she didn’t cut this chain of distractions from her mind or the rift would fall to desecration and mortals would fall to harm.
The samurai (presumably Oda Nomunaga) meets her eyes, “You there. Woman. Let go of me.”
Mai chuckles, “Oh sorry.” She let go and pulled back. The man looked over her thoughtfully. He stared at her rakusu overtop a brightly colored kimono, the religious garment indicating her servitude to Buddhism.
“You saved my life. You may be some girl the monks snuck in for amusement but I owe you my thanks.”
“The amusement of others is neither my intention nor my job, but you are welcome.”
Mai surveyed him for injury, but found none. His pale red eyes were unsettling, proud and brutal, hair a solid black. His clothes were finely made, he stood in black armor, with red tassels and a white under-haroi. As fine as the sword and as deadly as tanegashima hanging from his belt.
“What are you staring at? Surely you know who I am.”
“I really don’t.” And Mai really didn’t, it was best not to assume in this unfamiliar past.
“You saved me without knowing who I am? Not expecting reward or favor? … So be it I shall tell you my name. I am the man who rule all under the sun -”
Definitely Oda Nobunaga. “Actually, you don’t really need to tell me.” Mai started approaching the temple. She wanted to stabilize the rift before the fire watch came.
The samurai smirked, “You’re a curious woman. No one’s ever spoken so impudently to me before.” He let out a loud amused laugh that echoed far into the night before continuing, “You intrigue me, which is almost as worthy of praise as saving my life. I am the lord of Azuchi Castle and Daimyo of Owari, Oda Nobunaga.”
Devil King of the Sixth Heaven, Nobunaga Oda-and he was just in the burning Honno-ji temple-meaning…
“Pardon me for asking something strange but what year is it?”
Oda Nobunaga looked confused at the question, “It is 1582. Why?” Because in the year 1582 betrayed by Akechi Mitsuhide, Oda Nobunaga committed seppuku amidst the fiery wreckage of Honno-ji. Mai signed.
“I’ve given my name; now it’s your turn.”
Oda Nobunaga took a full step forward and took her chin in his hand, forcing her to meet his eyes. “Oof!”
That surprised her. Nobunaga’s face was almost touching Mai’s as he smirked.
“Give me your name.”
“Mizusaki. Mizusaki Mai.”
“A good name.”
“Glad you approve. Now let go of me.”
Mai brushed off his hand and would have continued walking towards the burning temple if she hadn't heard a large group coming their way.
A finely dressed samurai, with grey hair in a white coat, a black chest piece and long lavender hakamas, ran to Nobunaga crying “Oyakata-sama, you’re safe!”
The man arrived at the front of a unit of soldiers, rushing toward the two.
“Mitsunari? Why are you here? Where is Hideyoshi?” Nobunaga said.
“Hideyoshi-sama sent me ahead. He should be here shortly.” He took in the sight of the burning temple with a frown. “We received information about an assassination attempt. It appears to have been true. I had my men search the grounds but whoever it was had already fled.“ Mitsunari glanced at the women beside him, "If I may ask who is this? I saw the two of you leave the temple together.”
"Mai, present yourself to my subordinate." Nobunaga indicated Mitsunari with a nod and then waited.
“I’m sorry, did I miss the part where I became a subordinate too? I don't have to follow your orders."
Nobunaga glared, “Then you’re choosing to disobey me?”
“It seems to be hard not too when one is so set on things going his way.”
Mitsunari coughed before chiming in, “Please this is on me. It was rude of me not to introduce myself first. My name is Ishida Mitsunari. I serve at the side of Toyotomi Hideyoshi-sama, Oyakata-sama’s right hand man.”
"Nice to meet you. I’m Mizusaki Mai."
Nobunaga gestured to Mai once again, "I don’t know who she is, but she roused me and saw me to safety.”
“She did! I can’t thank you enough for protecting our lord’s life.“ Mistunari bowed enthusiastically deep in a show of thanks.
“But what brought you here tonight?” Mitunari continued his questions, “You dress like a nun, but your attire is quite unusual. Are you from abroad?”
“It was the gods’ lightning that guided me here. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a fire to be dealt with and a fox to strangle.”
“What?” “What?!” was the response from both men.
They stared in shock and then disbelief.
“You poor thing. The smoke from the fire was very disorientating, I'm sure.” Mitsunari grabbed her shoulder and began guiding her away from the smokey temple grounds.
Nobunaga laughed, “Are you claiming it was a kitsune who tried to kill me?”
“I never implied that is what the kitsune was plotting, only that I know he is involved.” One of them is referring to a wily bastard of a man, the other is referring to an actual mythical being.
Mistunari interrupted, pushing the two further away, “Sit down over there and get some fresh air. Someone will bring you a change of clothes.” Mai’s sleeves were black with soot, and the hemline was burned several inches higher.
“Once you’re freshened up, you’ll feel much better.”
“Thank you.” Mai quickly bowed as a soldier approached with a bundle in his hands.
Mitsunari said, “Now let’s get you into these shall we, Ojou-sama? Prepare a tent!” before walking off to conduct the soldiers. Mai redressed in the yellow kimono, white obi, and orange haori. She changed into the clean white tabi before putting on her old geta again. Her hair clung to her back, the two braids at her temples not unwinding. Once she stepped out of the tent, Ishida-san guided her to the center of the hastily assembled camp.
“Wait, right here.“ he said, ”I’ll bring you a cup of good clean water to clear your throat. “ With him gone the only other person nearby was Nobunaga.
"You clean up well”
Mai glared as his eyes lingered in return. She turned and kept her gaze on the entrance waiting for Ishida-san to return. The smoke from the Temple started to clear. Ishida-san’s troops must have put out the fire. As she breathed the clearing air, someone parted the curtain and entered camp but it wasn’t Ishida-san.
A fox-like man, and Mai knew fox-like, approached, “Oyakata-sama. I see you are well.”
“Mitsuhide?” Nobunaga questioned his surprise appearance.
Him? The person who started this whole incident, no—the history is different this time, but how?
“I hurried when I heard about the attack,” Mitsuhide seemed not in the least bit hurried, “but it seems there was nothing for me to worry about.”
“You worry?” Nobunaga smirked, ”Don’t make me laugh. I’ve never even seen you sweat.”
Yet another person entered the camp. This, this was a man in a hurry. “Oyakata-sama! Are you injured?” He cried!
“The only injury I suffered is my pride in letting my assailant escape.” Nobunaga responded.
“I see.”
“And now Toyotomi Hideyoshi shows up!” Mai said offhandedly, she continued to study the temple ground from a distance.
“Aren’t we outspoken? Have we met?” the correctly assumed Hideyoshi said this pointedly.
Hideyoshi asked, “Akechi-san, what are you doing here?”
And Mitsuhide returned a, “ I was wondering the same thing. I didn’t know you were in Kyoto. What about the campaign?”
“When I heard about the threat to our lord’s life I dropped everything to come here. But I never heard anything about you being in Kyoto.”
Mitsuhide frowned, “Are you implying something?”
“Can you swear before our daimyo that you weren’t plotting anything?” Hideyoshi barked out.
Mitsuhide didn’t answer him. The two locked eyes, tension filling the space between them. Hideyoshi is already suspicious that he is responsible for the attack.
Finally, Mitsuhide said, “All men have secrets in chaotic times. Are you saying you act with no ambition of your own?”
“Stop being evasive! Confess!” Hideyoshi said, his eyes flared. He gripped his sword, ready to draw. “If I find that you played any part in this attack on our lord, Akechi-san, I’ll show you no mercy.”
“It wasn’t him…” Mai said, still facing away, she began untangling her hair.
“What?”
Mai looked back and said, "I caught a glimpse of the man who attacked Nobu—um, Oda-sama, but the drape of his clothes was all wrong. And Mitsuhide is spotless.” The bells the man wore also reminded her of monks. “And we were both covered in soot.” He still smelled of soot actually.
"Mizusaki-san, was it? Stay out of this.” Hideyoshi said rudely, “We’ll settle things with you later and learn why you’ve schemed to get so close to Oyakata-sama.”
“Excuse you,” Mai snarked,“I’m a nun with no interest in scheming-” A lie. Two actually, she hasn’t been a nun in a long while.
Nobunaga said, “Enough, Hideyoshi. Regardless of what brings Mitsuhide here, I am alive and well.”
Hideyoshi bowed his head, "My apologies, Oyakata-sama.” He immediately let go of his sword, his hand relaxing somewhat.
Nobunaga turned to Mai, “Hideyoshi, Mitsuhide. Leave us. I have something to discuss with Mai-gozen.”
"With me?“ Gozen?
They stepped outside as Nobunaga approached. "Your discourteous manners aside, you saved my life. I’m intrigued by you. You’re a woman who carries fortune’s favor of that I’m certain.”
Mai’s eyes widened. Nobunaga had slipped one arm around her waist, pulling her possessively toward him, his voice close, “How would you like to rule the world at my side?”
“Apologies, but I really must go; I have my duties, and you have your nation to unite…” And with that prediction for the man, she fled towards the edges of camp. “What did you say to Me!” Nobunaga called after her. Toyotomi-san and Akechi-san called on her but she fled the small camp, racing into the forest.

and I never want to believe (that happiness is something different, something more
@ ao3
fandom: ikemen sengoku
pairing: yukimura x mc x sasuke
tags: pre-relationship
summary:
Kasugayama is plagued by the summer heat, thankfully Sasuke and Mai have a beach (lake) episode planned. Or, alternatively: three silly, goofy friends discover that sometimes a trio is just the right amount of people.
The Kasugayama summers are hot. Unbearably so. Mai spends most of her time in doors, crawling from shadowy place to shadowy place whenever the sun travels further into her hiding places. The summer wardrobe she had sown herself – and had been so excited about in winter, back when sunshine seemed like a long-lost dream and not a constant never ending hell – while airy, doesn’t help much when even existing within the limits of her own skin feels like a punishment. When Mai sleeps, she dreams of Air Conditioning Units and iced tea. Neither of which are currently at her disposal. Or will be for the next three hundred years or so.
She has been hibernating indoors for what feels like years, when she decides that it needs to stop. She is bored. Bored out of her mind. Maybe a few days away from turning into a serial killer bored. Her encloser needs enrichment bored. At this point she feels like she knows the wooden ceiling pattern in her room as well as the great hall by heart and she’s starting to get a really good grip on the one in Sasuke’s room as well. Not a good sign. She could start a new sewing project. And usually she probably would, but – and it pains her to even think so – currently the idea of picking up needle and thread evokes nothing but dread in her. Not only seems the heat to have dried up all her creative energy – she is usually proud to say that she is pretty good at picking up inspiration from even the most unusual sources – but the thought of having any extra fabric draped over her lap while stitching makes her want to dig a deep, and preferably cold, hole to bury herself into.
Nevertheless, Mai needs something to do. Anything to set her mind on. Overwise she might join Kenshin in his… intense obsession with sharp objects. Unfortunately, the heat derives her of any energy to actually be creative and come up with something herself, which is how she finds herself in Sasuke’s quarters… whining. To his credit, Sasuke handles her poorly delivered sob story about dying of boredom with a sincerity and grace that is almost enviable. He sorts the smoke bombs he was working on when Mai dramatically fell through his door into neat little piles in front of him, pushes his glasses up with one finger and gives her a look as she’s sprawled on his floor that makes Mai feel like she’s part of a secret mission. It’s almost enough to make her feel excited despite the heat. “Why don’t we go down to the lake later? It’s fed by springs so the water should be cold enough to cool even you down.” Cold water does sound nice. Really, really nice. Mai tries to sit up while hitting her open hand with her fist. She fails a little with the balance but is positive – from the look of mild concern on Sasuke’s face – that it came across as part of her natural grace and charm. “That’s a great idea! I could pack some lunch and then it will be just like a trip to the beach!”
On her way out of the door she can hear a faint gasp and Sasuke’s awed whisper. “We’ve reached the beach trip episode.”
It’s easy enough to convince the maids of Kasugayama’s kitchen to let her grab a few bites and snacks here and there. They like her well enough, although Mai is convinced, they think her a strange anomaly that can get away with almost too much in front of their lords. But even though Mai is considered to be of significantly higher status, as a personal friend to the lord of the castle – Kenshin’s friendship is a difficult thing to obtain and a baffling thing to hold – she always finds time to chat with them, listen to their complaints, offer up some ramblings of her own and fix up their clothes whenever something needs mending. So, yes, they think her strange, but they still like her despite that. Some, she suspects, harbour even a little motherly concern for her. A young, unmarried woman constantly surrounded by equally unmarried men, some of them known to be notorious flirts – Lord Shingen – yes, to a respectable Sengoku woman Mai probably seems to be constantly dangling on the edge of ruin and therefore in dire need of a bit of care and protection.
Lucky for her, today that protective instinct shows itself in a heaping supply of picnic goodies. She has a bit of a hard time carrying them all down the hallway to the spot where she is supposed to meet up with Sasuke, but that’s fine. The thoughts of cool waters and relaxing shades keep her going. It will be nice to get out of the castle for bit. Kasugayama isn’t exactly a narrow confinement, in fact she has gotten lost on her way more than once. Particularly in her early time here. But there’s only so many times you can lay down to watch the faint wind rustle through the gardens before you get a serious case of cabin fever. Besides she has always loved day trips, back in the future. Unfortunately, they are very unusual here in the Sengoku. Not only because traveling does take a significant amount of time and is related to far more dangers than Mai was ever used to, but also because the concept of self-care and taking time off for yourself hasn’t really reached the popularity she was used to. Mai has just started debating how Instagram influencers would try to sell their relaxing evening with their #favouritebathsuppliesever to the average Sengoku audience, when she feels a weight being lifted from her shoulders. “What armies are you planning on feeding?”, Yukimura’s already slightly irritated voice asks her. “Just the special forces,” she quips back while trying to snatch her picnic bag back. He holds them up higher – just out of her reach – and his usual kind of grumpy facial expression is rounded off with genuine confusion. Mai rolls her eyes at him. “Sasuke and me. We are going down to the lake.” “Oh,” Yukimura says in his infinite wisdom and lowers the bag just enough that she can make another (successful) attempt to grab it. “Alone?” There’s a flicker of… something on his face. He looks almost hurt, which in turn makes Mai feel bad. Very bad. She knows that it can’t always be easy being friends with both Sasuke and her. They have three hundred years of knowledge and stories to share between them, reference that Yukimura can’t possibly understand. And as much as she treasures the familiarity this brings to Sasuke’s and her relationship, she doesn’t want Yukimura to feel left out.
Ever since she arrived in Kasugayama it has always been the three of them. She knows that Sasuke and Yukimura were close even before then, but she can’t help but feel like she nestled herself quite neatly into their dynamic. She loves the bickering and easy camaraderie she has with Yukimura. His friendship brings out her fire. He is so brave and passionate about the things he loves that she can’t help but be so as well. And Sasuke offers comfort that no one else quite can. He understands the path she walked, because he walked it as well. Where Yukimura makes her want to fight, Sasuke keeps her grounded. She needs them, both of them.
Only when Yukimura’s ears start to turn red and his mouth twitches slightly, does Mai realise that she’s been starring at him for a quite some time now. “Well,” she says as she vows to herself to make Yukimura feel included and needed, “Unless you want to come with?” He hesitates for a moment before he grabs her picnic bag right back. “You’ll need someone to carry all of this any way.” And then adds, perhaps to distract from the redness that is slowly but surely spreading to his cheeks, “Dummies can’t be trusted with that.” Because she is a gracious person and fantastic friend Mai just laughs and follows him out of the castle.
[…]
The lake is beautiful. Slightly hidden between the rolling hills and mountains, the sun hasn’t yet managed to dry out the surrounding greenery and everything looks, smells, feels lush and alive. They find a secluded patch of grass flanked by sun-warm stones and rustling trees. Mai leaves Sasuke and Yukimura to unpack and darts to where the lake water is lapping at stones and tree trunks. The water is clear and still and when she looks close enough she can see little fish darting between the cool grey stones. Here, at the edge, the lake seems shallow enough to easily walk into it, though she can already make out a few deeper spots. She can hardly wait to get into it. She skips back to where the other two are settling in and helps Yukimura to brace their clay water bottles between some rocks in the lakes water to keep them cool. The water is pleasantly cold against her fingers, and she only grows more excited. This was a good idea. In fact, this probably was a damn near perfect idea.
“I don’t know about you guys, but I’m getting in there. Now,” she says, pointing at the lake. Sasuke pushes his glasses up, the ghost of smile dancing on his lips. “Seeing as we came all the way here to do exactly that, that’s a fairly reasonable plan of action. One I’ll be delighted to participate in as well.” “That’s a rather impractical way of saying you will go for a swim,” Yukimura grumbles from the side. As opposed to Mai and Sasuke, who are still standing, he has settled into the grass, a piece of melon already in hand. “Now, now,” Sasuke clasps him on the shoulder, “I think you of all people, my dear friend, are not in position to judge people for how well they express themselves with words.” That comment makes Yukimura splutter, but – already beet red – he doesn’t manage more than a indignant “Hey!” as a comeback. Once again proving Sasuke right.
Countless of beach and swimming trips have taught Mai that it is quite a good idea to wear your swimsuit already under your clothes, if you aren’t too keen on the whole ‘somebody maybe actually very likely is going to see my booby, but I’m still trying to prevent it as elegantly as possible’ spiel and so she comes prepared. It’s easy enough to get out of her thin summer yukata, unlike the fancy kimonos she sometimes wears around the castle. She folds her clothes up neatly and puts them down next to the cloth she brought to dry herself off later. Mai thinks that considering the time – both the period and the spontaneity of their little trip – she has done a fairly good job with her swimming costume. Well, maybe that is a bit of an overstatement. She has grabbed the first shift that seemed like: a) reasonably light material that wouldn’t take long to dry in the sun and b) a simple, but not too long cut that would allow her the necessary freedom of movement. Nevertheless, Yukimura’s alarmed gasp is a bit insulting. “What?”, she turns around, eyebrow raised. As soon as her eyes meet Yukimura’s, his head snaps back to study his piece of melon. The question whether he thought she would jump into the lake in her full outfit is at the tip of her tongue, but a quick glance in Sasuke’s direction and his subtle head shake stops her. Besides she is aiming for amiable and nice today anyway, no reason to goad him. Even after all these months Yukimura can still be painfully shy as it is.
She makes for the lake then. The cold water that laps at her feet sends goose bumps up her body, but after weeks of heat it’s exciting more than anything else. Still she has to bit her lip to keep from yelping as she wades in deeper. Her feet kick up small clouds of dirt and send the little fish scurrying away. The worst parts are her knees and her stomach, but once those are submerged it doesn’t take much bravery to hold her breath and let herself fall beneath the surface. She can feel her hair float up as her body sinks slowly towards the shallow ground of the lake. With her eyes squeezed shut, she tries to concentrate on the feeling of the cold surrounding her that becomes more pleasant with every second. Her feet find the ground, that is more mud than stone now that she has left the shore a few metres behind her. But it still offers enough support so that she can push herself back up and burst through the surface. The sun, to which she returns, feels significantly less burning than the one she left behind. She can see Sasuke coming to join her. His ninja outfit exchanged for a simple pair of pants. A weird feeling bubbles in her tummy at the sight of his bare chest. She and Sasuke are comfortable enough with each other so that they hug the other one freely and often, so she wasn’t completely unaware of the strength his body holds. Hell, logic alone is enough to deduce that a ninja is well trained. But it still makes her feel weird to see it. To be forced to acknowledge it, in a way. Mai pushes that thought process away and throws Sasuke a quick wave before she kicks up her legs to float on the water.
She always liked that. Floating around, feeling almost weightless. The cold water at your back and the sun warming your face and stomach. She closes her eyes and let’s the light paint red patterns on her closed eyelids, listening to the wind in the trees and the slight ripple in the water that Sasuke’s swimming is causing. Every once in a while she opens an eye to check that she isn’t drifting off, but otherwise relaxes and tries to commit this feeling to memory. Lord knows it will be hot and unbearable again soon enough. She doesn’t know how long she spend day dreaming, but by the time she raises herself up the front side of her body as almost dried and sends a fresh thrill of coolness down her spine. Yukimura has moved from his place on the grass to a large stone that protrudes a bit so that he can let his feet dangle in the water. Mai pushes herself forward and lets herself float gently towards him. “Can’t you swim?”
He scoffs. “Of course, I can swim. I’m a samurai.” He sounds honestly offended and for a moment Mai debates to apologise and drop the matter, but the water is so nice, and she is feeling as relaxed as she hasn’t felt in days. If she ever had the energy to go toe to toe with Yukimura it is now. And though she did promise herself to be nice, teasing Yukimura can be just so much fun. “Then why aren’t you joining us?” For a moment Yukimura just stares at her as if to comprehend what she has just said. Or if she has really said it. Then he goes bright red. “I- I can’t- I mean”, he clears his throat, desperately looking everywhere but towards her, “It would- It really wouldn’t be… um, proper, you know.” Mai laughs. “That’s what you’re worried about? But Sasuke’s already in the lake with me!” If possible, Yukimura blushes an even brighter shade of red. “Yeah, but he’s, you know…” “I really don’t” “Well, you and he… Don’t make me say it, dummy!” “Yuki, I genuinely have no idea-” “I think what Yukimura is trying to say,” Sasuke helpfully throws in while he floats past them dead man’s style, “Is that he thinks you and I are in a romantic relationship.” “Oh,” is all Mai can think to say to that, while Yukimura splutters furiously and almost slips from his stone. “But that’s not true,” she adds after a moment. That makes Yukimura look up. His previous embarrassment seemingly forgotten. “You are not?” “No,” Mai says at the same time as Sasuke chimes in with an noncharacteristicly amused “Nope”. “But then why are you like-,” Yukimura gestures between them, “like that?”
For the second time in just a few minutes Mai is genuinely baffled. She is aware that Yukimura sometimes feels left out between Sasuke and her. Hells, she knows that he did so today. But she wouldn’t have guessed that it was because he thought Sasuke and her were dating. And sure, if she’s being honest with herself, she likes Sasuke and he is attractive – and if she is really, really honest, she could see herself dating him in another life that didn’t involve time travel and samurai shenanigans. They work well together, are a good team and Mai always thought that friendships are a great foundation for a relationship. But the point is: her life does involve time travel and samurai shenanigans and also Yukimura and no matter what she feels for Sasuke, she knows that she also feels the same for Yukimura. They are goofy, silly best friends, that just happen to be also really hot. So, really, it’s not that she and Sasuke are like that, it’s that they all are like that. Sasuke and her, Yukimura and her, and even Yukimura and Sasuke. They all have their little special bonds, but that’s the important part: it’s them, all of them. Without even one it wouldn’t be the same.
“Sasuke and I are like ‘that’,” Mai tries for air quotes, but because she’s trying to stay afloat at the same time so they don’t come across particularly convincing, “Just like you and I or you and him.” He stares at her for a moment, a long moment. Then his gaze darts to Sasuke, who makes finger guns at him, and Yukimura turns bright red before it darts back to Mai. “I don’t think-,” he starts, before Sasuke throws in: “Yeah, that is often the problem. With both of you, really.” That blow comes unexpected. “Hey!”, Mai and Yukimura cry in unison. “You have to admit there’s some truth to it.” Sasuke didn’t take his glasses into the lake, but if he did Mai is sure he would be pushing them up right now. “Yuki, I can understand to some degree. He’s awkward enough at the best of times and this must all be very confusing for him. But you,” he turns to Mai, “I would have expected you to be less dense about it than I was. Although, I did require Lord Shingen’s help.” “What does Lord Shingen have to do with this?”, Yukimura looks almost too confused to be embarrassed, “Whatever this is!” “Well,” Sasuke gives both of them a pointed look, “He congratulated me and informed me that he always thought the only thing better than a team of two is a team of three.” Oh, Mai thinks while Yukimura looks on even more confused than before, oho.
It does make sense: them three being like that, instead of just two of them. She needs them both after all. And they both need her and each other, she supposes. And also, it doesn’t hurt, that they are both very hot. Lord Shingen can be very… special, but he knows desire and probably love as well and she feels like he was dead on right with that one. It does make sense. But even more important than that, the thought of them both feels good, it feels right. And she realises, a bit startled by the thought, that she wants them. She wants them, because they could be just like this, but also perhaps a bit different than this – it would be them. And that’s what she wants. That’s what Sasuke wants. And Yukimura…
She takes Sasuke’s hand in her own, pulling him with her as she swims closer towards Yukimura’s rock. The stone feels warm beneath her fingers as she pulls herself up out of the water and looks at Yukimura from underneath her lashes. “Yuki?”, she asks sweetly, “Have you ever heard of polyamory?” With a sudden yelp Yukimura falls into the lake.

Masterlist
“Your friendly neighborhood ninja comes bearing gifts.”
“Sasuke!” Immediately dropping the needle and thread in their hand, they jumped up from their work desk. The kimono they’d been carefully embroidering was long abandoned by the time they’d catapulted themself into his arms, already open and waiting.
A rare smile of his (though, was it really all that rare if he’d been giving them so many glimpses of it freely these days?) was on his face, brown eyes twinkling with what they could cleary tell was unadulterated joy as he pulled them into a tight embrace.
“Missed me?”
“When do I not?” They shook their head helplessly, before quickly reaching up to pull him into a sudden, passionate kiss, all eager lips and teasing tongue.
A slightly dazed look was on his blushing face as he finally pulled away for air, clumsily adjusting his glasses with shaky hands. They couldn’t help but muffle a laugh; it was a special kind of delight, flustering their normally straight-faced boyfriend. “I should go away for longer periods of time is this is the kind of reception I receive when I’m back, you know.”
“You wouldn’t dare.” Playfully pushing him by the shoulder, he caught their wrists in his hand, an infinitely affectionate look in his eyes.
“I wouldn’t. I’d probably miss you too much.” Frank as he sounded, and straightforward as his words were, they couldn’t believe that he had the gall to say such things so seemingly-easily.
“Flirt.” Rolling their eyes despite their warming cheeks, they tugged him to have a seat by their little table by the window. “Have you been spending too much time with Shingen lately?”
“No, why?”
“Ah, adopting Yukimura’s oblivion now I see.” Humming, they began to pull out the stash of snacks they’d set to the side for breaks amidst their work. “Having fun messing with me, are you?”
Sasuke couldn’t help himself and cracked another smile, giving up on the act as he took a seat, wrapping an arm around them and stopping them from bringing out even more food tht they would surely be unable to finish and still have an appetite for dinner. “Sorry.”
“You’re not in the slightest.”
A huff of a laugh, and a squeeze to their shoulder came at that. “Not really, no.” With his free hand, he popped a round thing into his mouth, a pleasantly surprised expression coming on his face. “Oh? Are these supposed to be kettle-cooked chips?”
“I tried my best.” Shrugging, they pointed to the teapot in the corner of the room—or, what used to be a teapot, considering that it was currently half-charred and half-melted. “Apparently, we’re still a few hundred years too early to go experimenting with that and make it out unscathed.”
Their boyfriend hummed in satisfaction, taking another one to pop into his mouth. “For what it’s worth, they’re actually good, even if they came at the price of one historical artifact,” he said between chews, giving them a thumbs up.
“You did mention missing your favorite chips last month…”
After swallowing, Sasuke remained still for a bit, unmoving and almost unblinking. They liked to call this his “rebooting” and gave him the customary minute or two for him to school his expression into something else. Much to their delight, it morphed into one of raw happiness and a sweet shade of affection.
“You’ll do me in one day.” Taking their hand in his, he squeezed it fondly. “Thank you. That was very thoughtful of you.”
Feeling slightly bashful at his praise now, they waved him off with red cheeks. “Let me do something grander next time, and we’ll see if then you’ll die of surprise. But I will die of curiosity if you don’t show me the gifts you declared you brought!”
“Well, they’re only really two small things, not much.” Digging into his seemingly-never-ending pockets, he pulled out two little boxes, carefully wrapped with intricately designed silk bows.
Though they were eager to see what he’d gotten them, they had half a mind to keep those ribbons for repurposing later on, and so handled them quite deftly. The two boxes now sitting on their little table, they could feel their heart melt bit by bit, until all they could feel in their chest was this oddly fuzzy feeling.
“Sasuke… this is adorable,” they breathed out. One was what they assumed was an expensive-looking silver paper weight, in the shape of a very familiar squirrel and adorned with sparkling gemstones of varying vibrant colors. They shone with every angle they turned it, and it somehow managed to be just as cute as the pet it was fashioned after. Grinning up at him, they paused from admiring the delicate craftsmanship. “Now I won’t have to worry about missing Kunai when she’s away with you.”
“Though I highly doubt this would offer the same benefits of protection, it bears a striking resemblance, I think.” His attention now turned to the other box, still covered by the velvet cloth covering what was inside. “Here, I’ll put yours on you.”
Before they could get a curious glance at it, he’d already fiddled with their forearm, and then sat back to admire it. Once they’d gotten a good look at what he’d made them wear, they instantly stiffened and their jaw dropped. Sasuke’s eyebrows furrowed at their reaction.
“Do you… like it?”
“Like it?” they incredulously asked, twisted the snake-shaped bracelet that now encircled their arm to display the emerald eyes. “Sasuke, did you, I don’t know, sell a kidney or something?”
At that, a slightly smug smile made its way on his face. “This is what happens when you read ‘Saving Up 101’ and memorize it as a kid. I happen to have a lot saved up.”
“I didn’t know ninja work paid that well. Might as well shift careers, honestly,” they mumbled, still in shock as they carefully touched the gold bracelet that looked like it had taken a painstakingly long time to craft. “This is gorgeous, Sasuke. Thank y—oh?”
When they looked up, they saw Sasuke sheepishly presenting his own arm, with a matching bracelet snaking up his arm, only this one with blood-red rubies for eyes. “I thought I’d get us matching ones. Since I can’t wear something that dangles or makes noise or is too flashy, a tight bracelet that I could wear under my sleeves seemed like the most plausible choice, and—oof!”
Before he could continue, they’d already thrown themself ontop of him and sent them both toppling down to the floor in a fiercely tight hug, before quickly peppering so many kisses on his face that it was physically impossible to point out a spot that wasn’t covered in chapstick. An airy laugh bubbled up in his chest, and his arms automatically pulled them in closer so that they perfectly slotted against each other.
“I’m kind of glad you didn’t think of a ring,” they mumbled against his chest, “So now I can surprise you with one down the line.”
And Sasuke, calm and cool Sasuke who was always unperturbed by most non-fanboy-related things, was rendered speechless again—partially because he couldn’t believe he’d been so hilariously stupid to forget about the existence of unobtrusive rings, and partially because the promise implied in their words turned him into a flustered mess that couldn’t produce a single cohesive thought.
All he did was shakily inhale a long breath, his trembling fingers clutching at the back of their shirt, desperate to ground himself for a moment or two before he lost all senses. They really are going to be the death of me, he thought, squeezing his eyes shut and trying to will his fluttering heart to still in his chest; a request too difficult to achieve when someone had fallen so utterly and helplessly in love.

No one humbles them like their toddlers
~~~
Imagine Nobunaga with a mini him
Like he's in a meeting with the other warlords holding his toddler who was playing with a toy and becomes entranced by their papa who is speaking.
And everyone’s faces turn to shock as their lord was dealt a serious blow to his face.
Headline: Lord Nobunaga taken quick and strong by wooden toy! The blow was dealt by none other than his own child!!!
And further all the warlords look on in astonished surprise as this man has a full on conversation with his babbling baby as to why you can't hit daddy in the face.
OR
Alternatively, he raises his sons challenge, in the middle of war council...
I am grinning like A FOOL!
one of my favorite things ever is to embarrass yuki, but bonus points for doing it while complimenting him 🥰
thanks Nemo, for the opportunity and for opening up writing requests for a great cause 🩷
Eye Contact
Ramadan Mubarak! For those who missed out, I am offering to write x reader fanfiction in exchange for donations or e-sims. Let's do our best to bring some relief to those forced into starvation and to those who don't know what peace is.
This piece is for @ikemenlibrary who donated to PCRF (Palestine Children's Relief Fund) for they aren't just denied food, but also a childhood amongst many other things.
Check out my masterlist to see what fandoms I write for. Though, if you can spare some time, write your representatives a letter as well!
Fandom: Ikesen
Character: Yukimura Sanada
Notes: "I could stare at you forever." "Creep." artist!reader (MC?)
It was hard living in a castle filled with beauties. And what many types there were to appreciate! The delicate, the icy, the ruggedly handsome, the artistic, you named it and Kasugayama housed it. There was simply no escaping it, and as an artist you didn’t want to miss out either, eyes set on all the beauty that surrounded you in the castle in your quest for inspiration.
Harder was the discerning eye of one particular pair of chestnut browns that always caught you. At first Yukimura thought it was by accident, his eyes flitting away as it met yours with a blush and a cough. Then, as it happened more it aroused curiosity, lingering on longer, meeting yours before shyly turning away, never able to maintain the eye contact for long.
It took the man a long while to grow more bold. But you had patience, enjoying the autumn crimson colours on the man whenever he blushed at your staring. Enjoying it even more when you would catch him staring, flashing a sweet smile into his direction that made him choke on his own air.
But you knew what he knew but didn’t dare to express. You knew, alongside the rest of the castle of beauties who silently smiled at the last of them to blossom.
“What are you staring at?”
The question came out rougher than he meant to. The sun setting and the last round of practice going around as soldiers stood in formation. You found that Yukimura looked best in the warm colours of twilight, appreciating the way the melatonin in his hair reflected almost red.
“You,” was your immediate answer, unabashed, soaking up the warmth of the remaining day and the warmth Yukimura gave you, the delight reawakening as you spotted that flush of red on his cheeks when he tried not to stutter and stumble over his next words, his eyes telling you all you needed to know as they burnished and locked into yours. It was his mind that couldn’t catch up, but that’s what made him all the more entertaining to watch.
“Well, stop staring. You will grow cross-eyed,” the Sanada tells you, finally managing a full sentence as he turns around, his spear firmly planted next to him as the sun flushes over his broad shoulders, casting yet another imagery that you wished you could snap into eternity.
“I could stare at you forever,” you finally breathe, genuine in your affection for the man and your appreciation, even if Yukimura was the last person on earth that you could ever describe as artistic.
the tip of his spear wobbles, his formation falling apart before Yukimura catches himself once more, face flush red now in front of all his soldiers as he pronounces; “creep!”, a quick turn on his feet as he faces you fully, face so hot it could have popped his favourite chestnuts before stilling when he sees the expression on your face.
It was he who couldn’t take his eyes off you. Not when you smiled so tenderly, the way you did only in his direction. Not when you were bathed in hues of orange and red from the sun, cloaked in the colours he adored the most, cradling the person he loved the most.
“Forever, and ever, and ever,” you continue to tease Yukimura, filling his body with an everlasting warmth that he holds onto tightly.
