"If you want to direct, watch things." -Kenneth Branagh, Pt. III

Ten years ago I gave myself the challenge of watching 52 films in 52 weeks. I called it, "If you want to direct, watch things." My goal was to learn what I liked, why, and to encourage myself to write.

I exceeded my objective and ended my year with 150 films. I learned a little more about myself and what I could accomplish.

Over the years, I have lost motivation for my personal wellbeing. I've been overworked, stressed, depressed, unable to focus - but I'm feeling better now.

So, now I want to do it again. I want to push myself, challenge myself... because I can, because I'm up to it.

sorry but do you ever think about the fact that the bernard we have today is a direct amalgamation of everything that happened in his past and i know that sound like such an obvious statement to say but it actually kills me to know that you can draw a direct line from who he is today all the way back to that sixteen year old boy who watched his best friend bleed out. like it is the defining moment in his life. it fundamentally shaped who he is and the person he's become. he is the bernard we know and love not despite the grieves shooting but because of it. because the gangs all got together and shot up his school. because tim walked out of that room with nothing but a baseball bat. because his darla got shot. because he watched her gasp and cry as she died. because he watched the blood coagulate around the wound. because he sat there and held her hand as her life drained out of her. because he walked into school that day with a joke he knew would make her laugh and her nose would scrunch up and she'd snort a little and tim would roll his eyes at him and call him ridiculous and instead he walked out with a bloody white shirt, blood under his fingernails, and two friends less. because, even now, almost half a decade out from the shooting, he thinks that if he closes his eyes, he will always be that stupid, scared little sixteen year old, holding the cooling body of dead best friend.

#there is a direct throughline from the boy we meet in robin 121 all the way to man tim reconnects with in urban legends 4 #like maybe you guys have other interpretations of it but to me this is *the* defining moment in his life #and that's not to say that he perpetually bound to this traumatic event but it impacted him sooo much that his life is now divided #before shooting and after shooting #like you cannot tell me him falling into the cult was just something that happened to him #it happened bc he was in such a bad place from watching his friend die and then on top of that he loses contact with tim!!!!#this is his canon event!!!!#if you took it away from him if you made it so that he never had to go through it #the bernard we would get would not be the same bernard we got in urb leg4 and tdr #does it not make you want to chew on drywall that to get to the bear we love he has watch his darla die first????#head in hands head in hands #and it wasnt like batman came immediately after darls died!!! iirc they had to wait a little before he came #which means!!!!! alll those kids but bear esp had to sit in that room with darls' dead body until batman came!!!!!#do you think he cried and held her hand until batman came??? do you think he begged her not to go??? or do you think he told her #stories and made promises of all the things they were gonna do after they got out??? do you think he put pressure on the wound and #watched as the blood soaked through the jacket they were using as a towel??? and when she finally passed do you think he bit his lip #clean through to stop himself from wailing? bc if he's too loud the gunmen will hear them and he cannot be the reason jay from #history dies #auuuugh i cant fucking do this anymore #bernard dowd #timbern #darla aquista #louis grieve trio

I've been seeing posts around talkin about how how deeply Armand loves Lestat in the books and how he's the love of his life even though the feel isn't returned and I gotta say I hope that isn't how they take things moving forward in the show. I just haven't gotten that vibe from Armand honestly. Yeah, he loves him and he also loves Louis- that's clear. But to me it seems more like he has developed strong attachments/feelings for them out of a dependence. It doesn't feel like a "love of my life" situation. It feels like an "I need someone as I alone feel incomplete/lost" situation.

#i mean i still have a few episodes left to watch so things could change i guess #just seems like Armand has never actually been alone and developed these relationships to ensure he will never be alone #both Louis and lestate provide him direction #i mean you see how he on multiple ocassions let life go to shit (the theater and the cult). he doesn't seem to want to lead in any way #but at the same time #he's afraid to let go of control #the vampire armand #armand #iwtv spoilers #iwtv #ramblings

every time I see a “it’s actually totally fine and nbd to have sex you don’t enjoy and are uncomfortable with because your partner wants it and you want them to be happy, as long as you’re giving uncoerced consent!” post I lose a month off my lifespan

#can /some people/ do this and have it be healthy for them? sure #but this is the overwhelming pressure both in a relationship and from society #and ime at least it has fucked me up a lot #to have sex i technically gave uncoerced consent to #where i was uncomfortable and unhappy and doing it to try and make my partner happy #bonus points for ‘it’s just like any other activity! just like you can watch a movie you don’t like for the sake of your partner #you can take a few hours to have sex you don’t like for them’#like come on now.#sex is not in fact psychologically identical to movies for most people #when i was a kid my school often made me watch movies I didn’t like or want to watch #you can say this isn’t ideal but #surely you can see. how this is different. than if they had made me have sex i didn’t want.#whatever WHATEVERRRRRR i know the sentiment is helpful for a lot of ppl #and i probably go too hard in the opposite direction #but im not framing myself as a wise advice giver im just rambling in tumblr tags abt my issues #if i were giving advice. well personally i would try to be more nuanced #than ‘don’t worry about it! it’s fine and normal to have sex you’re uncomfortable with and if you disagree you’re acephobic’#but that’s just me.#therapists dni #oh also I agree that people shouldn’t have to fake ‘normal reactions’ to sex #or to try and have orgasms if that’s unrewarding for them etc #im stone! its complicated! i get it!#but you gotta be careful to give the message ‘it’s complicated’#and not just. encouraging ppl to do things they’re genuinely uncomfortable with to make their partner happy.

But I've been good. Extremely busy but it's okay, the pto is worth it. That's what I keep telling myself at least :) but how are you??? Is anything interesting happening? New developments perhaps 👀

The funny thing is that I've actually been talking with a few mutuals, and they've all told me that they recently went back to re-read their drafts. Maybe it's something in the air or we're all feeling a bit nostalgic? Or because everyone is on break since it's summer.

I have a direct open line of communication with this author and they are about to receive a very strongly worded pep talk #you know what i think it could be #and take this with a grain of salt cause I'm speaking from my experience #but i feel like since we know how we want the story to go #and we've basically crafted the entire fic in our heads #we only pick the parts that we really like #for example when go back to rewatch clips from a movie #we just watch the parts that we like #i dont give a shit about the random conversation 28 mins into the movie #but its important because it advances the plot or it serves another purpose but regardless its important #but since im writing it I have to add in that random conversation otherwise the fic doesn't make sense #but thats BORING #I DONT WANNA DO IT #so rather than just sitting down and taking the 2 minutes to write that dialogue #i just push it to the side and pretend that ill come back to it #but i dont cause its always going to something boring to me even if it really isn't #super duper big mwah #lovely person #ask

god does anyone know a good alternative to duolingo that doesn’t cost money just to use properly. like i don’t mind ads but everything else i look at there’s a paywall just to get the full course

and i knooow language learning apps aren’t like, the be all end all but they’re good enough for getting the basics as long as they don’t start using bloody ai like duolingo is trying to do
