i think x-men 97 does a terrific job of showing just how batshit insane comics are. in general, but especially in the 90s (during rob liefields reign of terror) like clone stuff? yeah, happens all the time. time travel? sure, why not. cheesy one liners and regionally exaggerated/incorrect accents and dialects? crazy convoluted complicated relationships with love triangles and pyramids and squares and all that shit and. yeah. they’ve got it all!

there's this dutch song where a guy is singing abt a night at the club where he notices a beautiful woman dancing while he's standing near the wall trying to look cool and the chorus then goes 'i danced with you in secret - i hope you liked it' implying they did have a moment with the two of them together but then the last verse goes 'i danced without moving - with an ease you seldom see - maybe ill run into you tomorrow - probably better if i don't' meaning that he was too awkward too approach her and could only fantasise abt it, and he thinks if he meets her he'll come off as a total loser. anyway all this to say joplittle au where this happens but then they do coincidentally meet the next day and ned fumbles it as he feared he would but jopson thinks it's cute.
