China
Soft Power deficiency; there are a few podcasts outlining this idea, but they seem to avoid talking about it entirely. For good reason.
A Soft Power deficiency is what we'd call a "Cultural Export". Ideals, Ideology, Cartoon Characters, Music, Cuisine, etc...
However; China is known for not really honoring parents and copyrights from other countries, and thus allowing their populace to make copy's and immitations.
<aside>this discussion on Quora outlines the assumptions everybody not inside China makes. Including an obvious NPC post about how "China doesn't copy anything!" (Which other people in the thread call out for being an obvious Chinese Culture Police plant)</aside>
While China has plenty of cultural exports, including Sun Tzu, Buddhism, Confuscianism, Herbal Medicine, and other chiropractic-adjacent physical health and spa treatments.
They seem to trip over their own feet when it comes to anything else.
This is because of a few reasons; China doesn't like outside owned media and tech to be released inside of China.
China quotes "Western Influence" but, includes places like Russia and Japan when they say "Western". This is something more. As the U.S. includes all of those things when we say "Eastern".
Does China include their Southern White neighbor countries and Africa when they say "West"?
Video Games were even banned in China until 2014 because of their western influences. And China became the piracy capital of the world due to this.
You can even tell in Chinese Animations that make it outside of the country; that they're virtually identical to already released media. With color or variant changes. Like AI retracing. It wouldn't be very obvious to anybody who doesn't know a lot of media, but it is very obvious to those who do.
What this has strangely done; is watered down China's culture. The drive and demand for outside media, and subsequent prevention of internal media of higher quality has created a situation where China is creating content and media that is built on frameworks and Ideals from other countries.
Which honestly, exactly what we do here in the "West" when we make movies like "Kung Fu Panda". No notes.
Chinese citizens, it seems; have kind of lost their own cultural identity *because* they've been copying and reverse engineering outside media and tech, instead of having the freedom to create their own works.
I say this as an outsider looking in. Most of my information is what I can actually look at. But I do know gaming and media.
There are pathways for Chinese culture to influence the world. And there is a *high demand* for quality Chinese content creators. (Ask Jackie Chan). But what the world keeps on getting from China is lower quality creations that are derivative in nature.
Like China is trying to create a "western type media that westerners would enjoy". And thus failing to make both Chinese and Western media.
For Example; China could make a video gaming company that utilize their country's homogeneity (and thus wouldn't go bankrupt) licence "western(*coughjaoanesecough*) content" for their device, and still make Chinese games that aren't derivative.
Which would then find their way to the west via China's own Western media piracy pipelines.
What China should be doing; is making things they wanna make.
Nobody really wants some "western media" with a Chinese recolor. They want genuine, quality content, that's built from the ground up by people who know what they're doing and talking about.
And isn't just a cash grab with gatcha mechanics ...

What’s happening is that Disney is not doing its job.
I ended up doing an essay lol. I obviously appreciate someone reading it but given that is really lengthy, I don’t expect anyone to do so. I’m also not Asian so, there’s that. And my English leaves a lot to be desired (I corrected the orthography but I’m prone to grammar errors).
I do recommend checking out the sources I linked, especially 1 (youtube video made by a Chinese person), 2 and 3 (the descriptions are below).
I talk about what Disney is doing is not out of naive idleness. Idleness yes, but naivety no.
I keep thinking, where the hell did this movie go wrong? Because yes, this is not the first time nor the last time Disney is going to deliver a less than mediocre live-action remake, but, despite all of their track record, I still had hope for this one.
Because, while the other movies are classics, they had certain aspects that didn’t age perfectly, which it is understandable. Beauty and the Beast, although arguably the best Disney animated movie, had these “Stockholm Syndrome” connotations* (bear with me) and we also had to consider how much of Beast’s personality could stay in the remake (since he could have been read really wrong if he lashed out on Belle too much, not only because of his appearance but for the power dynamics of him being the one in calling the shots of Belle’s wellbeing, hope that made sense).
Cinderella could have made some* audiences criticize her for her apparent submissiveness, Aladdin is a whole can of worms in the subject of orientalism (which they kept in the remake, anyway), etc., etc.
*This is not the post to discuss whether or not Belle suffered Stockholm Syndrome during her movie, nor to discuss whether or not Cinderella was actually submissive in the original. Many people have already done that, my point in bringing that up is, Disney used that as an excuse to change scenes and plot in the remakes.
But Mulan, aside from minor problems that come from an American company writing an eastern story (and the values and trends present when the movie was made), had a very strong plot that still holds up to this day (I say that like the movie was made in the 30s lol).
Not only it is a “feminist” movie but also, the story is very well written and made, in my opinion. There was not a lot that you needed to change. The main character had already a well-rounded personality (unlike, for example, my girl Aurora), the story was already very rich, etc. The removal of Mushu (and the whole dragon symbolism), although sad, it’s understandable how it was necessary.
However, is not just the removal of important and nostalgic characters like Mushu or grandma Fa, but the removal of the soul of the movie.
Mulan 2020 is a soulless movie.
This is not unique to this remake, as this is not even unique to remakes, imo. But it is one of the most painful ones, because this movie meant a lot to a lot of women (and people) and the beauty of it all was that you didn’t need to be Chinese, or a woman, to appreciate it (that’s a good thing in the sense that is good when you can relate to a story, even if you don’t share some of the traits with the main character. Not that it’s good despite being the story of a Chinese woman, is that clear? Sorry if it’s not).
And it’s also painful because it could have been so easy to... not do that. Other people have already talk about this (and in a much briefer, better way) but yes, what made Mulan so great in the original was that she was your average girl, even worse because she lived in a very conservative society yet she managed to become a badass while, not only discovering who she was in the process, but also staying true to that. That was the reason she was great. She had flaws, she couldn’t adapt, she was the underdog but she, through her unwillingness to give up, her tenacity, wits and compassion, overcame that, eventually becoming a hero.
It was not because of her qì. Again, I’m not going to do a deep dive in that because others have already talked about how they made her a Chosen One. What I want to discuss is how sad it is that they went for that route and my confusion as to why they did it.
And I think it was more than laziness. It’s definitely a lack of motivation but, when you dwelve on it, I don’t think that laziness goes hand in hand with carelessness. But first, with the laziness, a google search would have made them see what progressive crowds now deem as feminist values. Both eastern and western crowds.
Because yeah, sure, I doubt the Chinese government is well versed in intersectional feminism. Yet, there are movies both the Chinese government and its people have liked and appreciated. Weren’t they the ones that, upon watching Kung Fu Panda said something like “how did we not come up with that?”
I saw this video made my Chinese youtuber Accented Cinema (links below: 1, I highly recommend watching it) and he even mentioned his school taking his class to watch the original movie in theaters. So, yeah, believe it or not, you can make a feminist movie set in a third world country (I also come from a third world country, sorry if this sounds like I’m being mean to Chinese people).
So, why did you not do your homework, Disney? Again, I understand they couldn’t have made the most leftist movie, not only because it’s Disney, but because they wanted to appeal to both governments, however, you could have made the remake be satisfying enough for that audience and the rest of the world. But they didn’t even satisfy the Chinese audience, with a lot of them saying how the movie reinforces ideologies the Chinese themselves have already moved on from (the “devotion to family” inscription in the sword has received a lot of criticisms: 2).
This means that they failed to do even the only thing they seemed to compromise on. You could have had still appealed to the government. That is to say, I don’t expect Disney to be the wokest of them all and go full anarchist on their movies because that’s not even what Disney wants anyway.
They could have still done some things that wouldn’t have anything to do with western or eastern values. For example, they could have given Mulan’s sister a personality. Giving your character one is not a western/Americanized value, it’s part of what means to make a well written story.
Without that, her character seems completely pointless. Seriously, I keep thinking what was the point of her character, besides being a disappointing replacement of the grandma. I’d like to think that she was the movie’s way to represent how more conservative values are still valid, if the woman chooses so. Her wanting to get married and have a traditional family doesn’t diminish her value as a person. They could have made a scene with the two sisters still being able to bond with each other, even if they had very different views of the world.
But since we never find out about her motivations or desires, it is left unknown whether this is what she chose for herself or if she is just another victim of her circumstances. And I ask myself why, since it could have been so easily to do that. You could have replaced the scene where kid Mulan is combing her sister’s hair (which, for what I can remember, only serves to further stablish the sister’s fear of spiders… which they make clear in other two scenes) if the movie’s duration was a problem.
Being left with no logical answers, I can only conclude that it was out of laziness. But it doesn’t end there, does it? Because I think “ok, so they were lazy, then they could have done what every lazy student does when they don’t have any motivation left and copy-pasted the original. Didn’t they do that with the Lion King already?”
And I get that it didn’t work with that one, but that’s because you shouldn’t somber up a movie that has anthropomorphic animals, that also heavily relied on being an animated movie. Mulan doesn’t rely on that; Mulan was inspired by a legend. Live-action Mulan had already been made with good results, so what couldn’t they have just copy pasted their own original? If they didn’t have the energy to give it a proper, well-made twist (i.e., Maleficent), the least they could have done is respect its predecessor.
But they took away all the things that made Mulan great in the first place, to made her what every writer will tell you not to do. Making her being born with extraordinary skills, which then results in her not having to work for her merits, is something even I, a nobody, knows not to do. I’m not even going to address how taking agency away from her sends the wrong message to the little girls that are going to see this sad excuse of a movie.
What I’m trying to say, it may not be comparable to a lazy student copying the homework of one of the most accomplished students, but it is as if they based their work on that, just butchering all the parts that made the accomplished student’s work good. And, unlike with the lazy student whose reasons might be justifiable, Disney had no excuse to do so, because it is their job.
It is their job to deliver a well written story or, if that’s too demanding, to at least make a movie with a happy-go feeling (is that grammatically correct?) that sends a well-meaning message. Instead, the message this movie (I would say, purposefully) delivers is that you can only accomplish great things if you’re born special.
Us, regular folks, especially regular women, especially regular women born in less than ideal circumstances, are doomed. And that’s what’s sad.

Bionic Controlled Computers (B.C.C)
(C)2019-2020 By Kevin Michael Kappler. All rights reserved.
I had been watching videos on Youtube concerning Bionic arms, legs, and even eyes. Noticing even the brainwave frequency detection headgear to control the bionically enhanced vehicles and weapons on various science channels – I thought. “Why can't I design my own Brainwave head gear (or use an already manufactured one to purchase), use the brainwave interpreter circuit board and finally a raspberry pi or latte panda single board computer units to act like the command executor - “bionic computer interfaces” or “B.C.I.”
I Googled such items. I found a few for $500usd that may fit the description in my so called “ideological fantasy.”
Bionic headgear and interface -
Input commands and directions to robotic units and vehicles.
Such a system would allow handicapped people and also people in my condition (with nerve sensations damaged by M.S or S.L.E)(even visual impairments)
to drive cars, control wheel chairs(quadriplegics) and even goggles to connect cameras for vision (helping the blind to see).
Controlling personal computers, drones, weapons, and other common entertainment electronics with simply a “thought” would change how one could interact. Especially in a world limited by Nerve damage, disease, or handicap.
My “Bionic S Campaign” is a headband with Brainwave EEG connectors, an interface that would detect, amplify and then direct those waves to the interpreter box then the interpreter box would tell the intended software and hardware would to do.
Brainwaves would be detected and the wave patterns, which it detected, would be interpreted as certain commands or “willed reactions” by the interpreter.
Imagine that you are sitting in an electric battery powered go kart.
A box to receive the commands would be installed in place of a steering wheel and accelerator.
The headband would then be placed on the subject's head.
Brain sensors would be positioned to pick up their intended brainwaves. As electroencephalogram)
picks up a subjects brainwaves just to measure the activity of their thoughts.
An interpreter box would look for such waves. By the frequency picked up or “wave form”(alike a modem and audio signal of two computers communicating through tones), this “brainwave modem” would use such detected waves and match them to commands that were stored in it's programmed rom.
Once the brainwave was matched to the wave length in it's command base, the machine would then interpret what the command would result with an action sent to the box in the vehicle.
The subject could think of going “forward” or the words “go forward.”
Just like a bionic arm or leg – this system could integrate a Human to a machine and “will” such devices without touch, vocal , or touch commands.
If one wished for the vehicle to turn, they would simply push the though of which direction the vehicle should turn and the interpreter computer would make such and action happen.
For people in wheelchairs – they could even fly a helicopter or write a novel simply by thought.
People, like myself, with Nephropathy and severe pain disorders. People who could walk, talk, and do many normal things – their lack of feeling in parts of their bodies, distorted vision without glasses, and interactions that are limited by neurological damages by disease or action.
They could have their vision enhanced. They could run machinery, safely.
The could create with 3d printers connected to the interpreter computer.
The could draw, beautifully, or even animate simply by thought.
Once the funds needed are collected, I could order the parts I needed. Then trials and experiments in computer, vehicle, or bionic response unit (B.R.U) could be made successful.
Human thought to gadget computer controlled vehicles, art equipment, and many more household items. “Will Controllable Appliances (W.C.A).

Imtherealak did it again
It's not often as a 34 years old father that you get to have your whole ideologies shook by...a kid essentially.
For those reading this(hi mom xxx)@imtherealak is a young uprising hip-hop artist, who grew a legit fan base (Subscribers & Followers)on his YouTube channel by remixing mainstream instrumental such as Kodak Yellow, Saints, Gucci Gang(god i hat the orignal and evryone who helped release that crap)& more importantly ; 🐼 Panda.
At only 16 years old , this kid took over the world , for what we can only assume, was an Highschool beef with some Jersey pricks lol. He dessssstrrooyyeddd that beat with meaningful and raw lyrics. He kept on coming with more and more remix who instantly became virals and related to evryone. Even me, a god damn 34 years old single father , felt like this kid ripped my saoul in half. My personal favorite to this day, is his Lights Out Remix.
So I followed, like and subscribed the shit out of That kid, because I felt his hungrinest for perfection and willingness for growth. I loved those simple , clean and humble videos with his white stained bedroom wall. I loved it. It was authentic and the dude was ripping his demons out. Bbeeeaaauuutttiiiiffuuulll work.
Then he got headhunted and went to L.A....and it changed his flow , his authenticity and I'm genuinely worried that my favorite artist is listening to the wrong people.
Meaning by that, is that we got his newest release 2 days ago and I'm still not over it. What was once a poor kid from Jersey rapping out of his room ,with shit taped to his egg shell washed up painted shitty wall , is now a clean cut jumble rap artist. He change the receipt and even change the location of where he is filming from.
Bro the people you are listening too are wrong bro. People felt in love with the content and the realnest of you words. Now you making fun of broke people?? And changed ur flow? But for who? Not for ur fans who got you from 10 to 950k+ Subscribers. Remember how blessed you were to get those 100k subs? We still here bro, but now you are doing the equivalent of buying a MacDonalds Franchise and changing the big mac Combo. I don't feel like this
I think a lot more can be done from the original spot, dude sell the wall to sponsors with the commitment and the response you have from your fan you'd have what sponsors wants...traffic from targeted demography.
And before I forget , you mentioned LA a lot. We get it's a step forward for you but with all do respect , please keep in mind that beeing in LA doesn't make you the best(im talking about producers not you, ur the shit bro)it just means you went to L.A to pursue your financial and social dreams. Lotsssss of unique talented producers are living in small town because theu chose a family life style and rather focus on local artist and shit. Be careful bro and don't buy a bag of fairy dust.
But let's talk about me for a sec, i love that shit. What you did to me with your last video is that you had me rethink my whole vision on changes. I hated that you changed your style(yes you did bro lets be real ok) and you venue. I hated it. Still don't like it. But then I got upset with how much this upseted me and get even more enoyed.
Was your video a reflection on my own weaknesses? I always praised myself on being adaptable and quick to adjust. I can move from a house, end a relationship and change job 3 times a year and move within hours notice from places or jobs & sleep like a baby. So why this that god damn video affected me that much and why did I watched it 7 times at 2am??
Because as adaptable as I am , I realized thay there is levels of change in a man's life and that for someone like me, who relate so much to music and artist, this baisycly represented betrayal, a important part of my taste pallets changed and I wasn't asked about it
I felt like a my GF was telling me(or ex) that she is getting a new hair cut new jens new look but not to worry about it. That nothing is changing and that new guy Mark at work is a friend. Those peoples im LA are not just friends bro and have an agenda(btw the whole story about my gf new look is fictional to prove my point.
So yes , imtherealak made me once again realized that a 18 year old kid can at any moment, put out a mirror to your face and expose yourself. He exposed my weaknesses to translate change into progress when it come to my taste and core habits. Thanks bro. You did it again 🙏🙏🎩🎩

How the Evolution of Google’s Algorithms Have Filtered the Internet
What does Google’s evolution of Algorithms have to do with your website, how it ranks and how your content is found? Find out.
Are you one of the many website owners constantly wondering why Google’s Algorithms have left you out, or what you can do to get ahead of the curve when it comes to search results?
Well, we’re going to talk about that today. More specifically, why we look to Google for answers and what Google’s evolution of algorithms have done to impact search results.
The Need for a Search Engine
It’s probably something you don’t even think about, but when was the last time you searched for something?
30 seconds ago? 5 minutes, 30 minutes maybe?
I’ll bet you can’t even imagine what life would be like without Google now. All that information right at your fingertips. We live in an age where you simply ask your phone a question and you get a dozen answers immediately. Of course, getting an exact result that matched your query is no easy task, but you don’t have to worry about that either.
Who cares — it just works right?
Well, maybe you’re one of those obsessive SEO’s or a digital marketer who is interested in how Google’s search algorithms impact websites. Whatever your reason, the evolution of AI over the years has certainly made Google the most trusted search engine in the World, so it is a little exciting to try and understand their inner workings.
How do Google’s Algorithms Work?
I’m not going to lie… the average Joe doesn’t know how Google algorithms work. In fact, unless you have insider knowledge as a Google engineer, and maybe not even then, you won’t know all that goes into producing those magical search results.
We do know that the process starts with the role of web-crawlers indexing web-pages. Beyond that tons of web-pages are getting crawled and it’s safe to say a LOT of data is being stored and evaluated regarding each of those pages.
I mean Google has reach all over the world and it’s leveraging all of this for information gathering. Information regarding individual user’s tastes, domain authority, website traffic, Click through rates, site speed, links, pages indexed and hundreds of other insights.
Think about it, Google is able to generate ads based on the websites you visit and even the products you are searching for. Google even serves up personalized results based on your browsing data when logged into Google or using Chrome. From the Chrome browser, it will easily have the cookies which keep track of your internet activity. Though they have a privacy policy sometimes it sure seems like they’re watching and listening to everything you do.
If Google’s algorithms are working so well to produce the results that people are looking for, then why are so many sites overlooked.
Maybe they’re not.
If there can only be a handful of ‘answers’ served up on the first page of results, well you can just imagine how many pages are getting left out. It doesn’t even mean that your pages are spammy or sub-par. Shoot maybe even some of your pages deserved to make it on the first page of results, but the truth is Google has done a pretty good job of determining what actually is relevant.
We’re going to take a chronological journey through Google’s most significant algorithms. It is important to keep in mind that we can only truly know what we’ve seen in terms of SERP changes over time and of course what Google has told us about those published updates. While we can’t know everything, there is enough data to string together very insightful optimization practices to better address what Google may be looking for in a website.
1. Panda
This is one of the core algorithms which is leveraged by Google’s AI to distinguish web-pages that are using plagiarized content for their marketing purpose. It doesn’t have to be plagiarized content — it could just be thin or crappy content. This thin, crappy or plagiarized content does not contribute to helping the end-user and thereby google penalizes it for the non-usability of resources. The site owner can later reform the web-page to satisfy the requirement and get back on track for having visitors. Panda is a broader concept which focuses on the we-page and frequently rolls out on websites giving them a chance to correct their mistakes.
2. Penguin
The penguin algorithm can be termed as a focused version of the panda but it relatively checks for the micromanagement which is done on the website.
Google first announced the Penguin update back on April 24, 2012, saying it was aimed at lower the search rankings of websites that violate its Webmaster Guidelines. More specifically, however, the update targeted websites that used black-hat techniques to manipulate their search rankings, such as keyword stuffing, cloaking, paid links, link farms, etc.
The best way to avoid getting hit by this algorithm is to manage your SEO services in order to maintain a natural and ethical way of building your website’s authority.
3. Hummingbird
This algorithm was officially launched to bridge the gap between user and information provider, as this algorithm is responsible to study the user perspective of searching query rather than the exact keyword. On the other end, it made the content developer get more focused on making the world understand their conceptual theory and not just focusing on keyword optimizing for getting rankings. This was a required revolutionary step for eradicating the “keyword stuffing to get you ranked on google” concept.
Hummingbird was an update that changed the way google understands queries and was a new engine for Google. It improved the understanding of synonyms, search intent, and conversational search. There were NOT widespread reports of ranking drops from this update, but helped produce better results based on search queries.
4. Pigeon
This algorithm can be better understood by relating it to the concept of messaging through pigeon done in the past from one location to another. This update was also related to location-based services and can identify the user’s current location to provide the resources which are nearby them. The only way you can help yourself to get business from this AI is through integrating yourself with google location and developing a good on-page strategy to clearly represent your physical.
5. Mobile
A couple of years ago google gave significant importance to mobile technology which was generating more queries for them as compared to web searches. The so-called “mobile” algorithms gave priority to the websites which were having mobile-friendly web design and responsive websites. This made a clear viewing aspect for the user to feasibly read the information and navigate through it. Its a device based ranking strategy which made the website across the world develop responsive websites that can recognize the screen layout and adjust the content accordingly. Many businesses got negatively affected, but Google works for user enhancement.
6. RankBrain
This can be taken as an extension of the hummingbird algorithm which will be providing more focus on the delivery of relevant content and it is a major factor when the page ranking is considered. Any term which is relevant to the user perspective of interest, location, race or genre will be shown on a priority basis. Though its internal working has never been disclosed, it is said that the RankBrain AI tweaks the algorithm on its own and is more efficient than Google engineers.
Depending on the keyword, RankBrain will increase or decrease the importance of backlinks, content freshness, content length, domain authority etc.
Then, it looks at how Google searchers interact with the new search results. If users like the new algorithm better, it stays. If not, RankBrain rolls back the old algorithm.
7. Possum
Many of google’s algorithms may sound like they are identical in processing but that’s not the case. A great example of this is the pigeon update which was initially confused with the possum update. Possum is an update which is purely related to user location and will get results basis on the location specified criteria such as language, news, political effects, weather, and whatnot.
As I mentioned, “Possum” is an update to Google’s local search rankings algorithm, and it decides when businesses will show up in local search results, sometimes filtering business listings out of search results. This means that some local businesses might not always appear for the same search.
Possum was a critical update in the growing divide between local and general search rankings.
8. Fred
This one is the most recently recognized Google algorithm updates which was released to make the web site owners follow their ideological rules and regulation. Designed with the goal to serve the end user with non spamming websites and less annoying advertisements on site to improve user experience. This algorithm identifies the web-pages which are over-utilizing the advertisement strategy to get revenue, mostly through popups and auto-link opening in the new tab of your browser. Google will be taking strict steps and might block your website from ranking, so it is advisable not to bomb your visitors with advertisements including pop up promos.
Type of Searches
Google provides quick and easy access to not only view and visits other websites but also to help you find images, local or international news, relevant videos or a specific place on maps. A 360-degree information resource allocation is done by its AI which won’t let the user go to other search engines. Currently, there is no other with the potential to beat google. It is a one-stop search engine.
I always like to say… if you can’t find it on google it doesn’t exist.
Though Google generates huge revenue through advertisement, we should be happy at-least searching content is free of cost.
Competitors Algorithms
The algorithms which are discussed earlier are implied on other types of searches too.
It can be said that it is not easy for any search engine to even get near the score of Google occupancy among the internet users who are using it to search. Though there are some search engines like duckduckgo and Baidu which are growing in this industry, they are following the footprints of google updates to provide relevant results. Baidu is a Chinese search engine that is mostly used in China only and the market there is dominated by it due to the language relevancy which is provided by it. But on a global scale, Google is dominating.
Conclusion for Why Google is Best in What it Does?
The vision and mission of Google are the driving force behind the company’s ideology of providing smart, reliable and futuristic solutions to sooth the searching experience of the users around the world irrelevant to their language or regional presence. The platform is a representation of efforts of the best and brightest in the World, who have made possible for any person around the world to access the information they need.
Today we are standing in a world where we come across this searching giant in every form whether it is the usage of devices like mobile, tv, car or any place with equipment connected to the internet, Google will be there for assistance, and we’ll be there for assistance in improving your website’s performance in Google.

Can you list the Top 10 Disturbing Secrets KFC Doesn’t Want You To Know? We all know that the food at KFC is finger lickin' good. The super secret recipe used in making their chicken keeps people coming back again and again. Much like other famous food franchises, KFC also has its fair share of skeletons in the closet. Unlike those secret ingredients, let’s indulge ourselves with the top 10 disturbing secrets KFC doesn’t want you to know. KFC, also known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, was founded Sanders Court & Café on March 20, 1930, in North Corbin, Kentucky by Harland Sanders. It is an American fast food restaurant chain that specializes in fried chicken. Headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, it is the world's second-largest restaurant chain (as measured by sales) after McDonald's, with almost 20,000 locations globally in 123 countries and territories as of December 2015. The chain is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, a restaurant company that also owns the Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and WingStreet chains. Comment #KFC #KentuckyFriedChicken #ColonelSanders if you love eating some KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) deep fried chicken! TIMESTAMPS: 0:29 The Da Vinci Code Of The KFC Recipe 1:47 The Unfaithful KFC Colonel 2:49 KFC Taste Vs Your Health 4:13 Sander’S Secret KFC Recipe For Success 5:20 Chicken Breeding At KFC 6:20 Recycle, Rinse, Repeat At KFC 7:33 The KFC Shootout Showdown 8:43 What’s In A KFC Name Change? Everything! 10:12 A Case Of ‘Unjustified’ KFC Identities 11:20 The KFC Drug SUMMARY: - KFC's original recipe, believed to be a complex mixture of eleven herbs and spices, the actual handwritten recipe is locked up and stored at the company headquarters in Kentucky, USA. - The recipe might have remained faithful to the core ideology of how the chicken should taste and keep the integrity of the Colonel’s specific taste and preference intact. The same cannot be said for the man with the glorious moustache who started it all. - There is no fine print detailing the health concerns of the fried chicken. Its not like the public and the health department are unaware of the risk that comes with having their food. - Did you know Sanders and the company always had friction between them when it came to the business practices and the implementation of certain recipes? Whatever the case may be, Sander’s friction with the company was not that under wraps as he despised the KFC menu during the latter part of his life. - KFC has been accused of breeding its own chickens of a certain genetic form. The animals are believed to be kept in inhumane conditions and are malnourished. If you thought mutated chickens sounds like a far-fetched idea and your imagination was going haywire, KFC has been accused on that front too, although it is a speculation. - Knowing the history of the food involved in the chain, one has to remain cautious as to where the food comes from and how long it has seen the light of day. Knowing how the food is handled sometimes, the thought of it being ‘finger lickin good’ does not exactly come to mind. - Back in the 1920s, Sanders managed a Shell gas station and in order to attract customers from the highway, he painted a large sign. This did not go down well with a man named Matt Stewart, who owned a competing Standard Oil Station. Both hot headed, and both having a thirst to be on top of their game, there was a lot of friction going on there. - The PR move to change the name would help encapsulate what they were trying to sell to the consumer. During the time when Craig Kyle was the President of KFC, he let it slip that the move was made because the word ‘fried’ was synonymous to all things unhealthy. - Marketing is part and parcel of every company out there so as to reach out to the masses and attract more customers, keeping them aware of their presence. KFC’s intention was just the same when they recently started a new series of commercials, starring Darrell Hammond, playing the famous Colonel Sanders. - KFC might be all things crispy and delicious, but the one thing anyone can’t associate it with is a portal to smuggle drugs. WEEK 4 ENTRY 2 of 2
Finished the movie. The scene pictured above was so powerful. *This* should have been the climax of the movie. Or, really, in a way, it was -- this movie kind of ended twice. Was the strangeness of the sex coliseum scene the point? Did it want to satire the way we put “romantic plots” on a pedestal? If it did, I am not sure it made the satire clear enough. Or did it just sail over my head? It seemed to me that even though Cyclops came in and ended the conflict, that the movie was still unironically presenting the sex competition as a solution, “to bring their Johnsons to the table.” Basically I found myself scratching my head and wondering why we didn’t go straight to the scene where the power of the agony of black mothers triumphs over the pride of intra-black community murderers. This scene was done so well... it put me back into the movie just as quickly as the scene before it took me out of it. I guess perhaps the purpose of the previous sequence was to similarly emphasize the power of black feminine sexuality, as if to say, it is not just black female pain that has power and agency but also their sexuality, which is stereotyped but nonetheless has power besides the stereotype, but I am wondering if a scene like the sex coliseum scene actually accomplishes any of that. It makes spectacle out of it, in the way that Roland Barthes calls a “degraded” spectacle, in a similar way to how music videos in the modern commercialized rap game sexualize and exploit the black female body. Now, yes, our female lead is portrayed not only as having agency but as orchestrating the whole scene, playing Chi-raq and Cyclops both while simultaneously sexually satisfying herself, but.... Spike Lee is a man who made this movie and pointed the camera, so is him portraying the main power of a woman to be her sexual power any different from the example of the way male rappers exploit female bodies? Honestly, this isn’t my fight. This movie wasn’t made for me; it was made for the black male youths who contribute to the statistics about Chicago murder rates in the beginning of the movie, it is Spike’s call for those men to “WAKE UP” as the final image of the film demands, for women to stand up and shake their men awake and tell them to pay attention. It was providing a model for those women to empower themselves and realize the power they have in a fight that is often waged by men against men. So it is not really my place to say whether this is an effective vehicle for that message or not. But my own sexuality is not completely normative, so I react to this movie in a way of, “damn, this movie doesn’t really leave any space for people who don’t think about sex in these highly gender essentialized kind of terms.” If this movie was directed at me, that is probably the level I would react to it on. In fact, because patriarchial violence is very conciously a target of the film’s critique, taking down essentialism would be a nice place for it to start. However, the film does a thing that reminds me of what Slavoj Zizek says about the cartoon Kung Fu Panda. “What is fascinating to me about Kung Fu Panda is that the ideology is deconstructed but by the end of the film the ideology survives!” I don’t know that a film that tries to do all that this film does, but where patriarchial ideology survives, is a great success.. I would be interested to see a voice like Ava Duvernay create an alternate take on the highly important mission of the film Chi-raq. It seemed to me that Spike Lee’s take lets a little too much of the ideology survive. That said, I’ll sit down and let someone more qualified decide whether I’m right about that or not.

Organization, Transitions, and Word Choice
Option 1
I stumbled upon an image not long ago on a popular, niche website called Reddit. The image depicted a well-known Japanese concept of life called Ikigai: A reason for being. In a sense, a person can only reach the pinnacle of purpose at the cross-section of what they love doing, what they are good at, what they can be paid for, and what the world needs. Leave it to me to have an existential crisis after realizing my plans for the future fall short of a perfect Ikigai.
In order to discover this ideal area, I have to go through an arduous process of evaluating the aspects of my character that hold the greatest value. Over the course of my first year in college, I’ve performed the most excruciating autopsy on my identity. At this point I feel as though I’ve taken every personality questionnaire or strengths assessment quiz out there. The qualifiers were nice to categorize who I was as a leader on campus, but I think the biggest growth and step forward I’ve seen in my college career is through my curriculum.
I’ve written a number of essays for World Literature that cover a spectrum of challenging concepts, anything from systemic racism to the carnism ideology. In each blog, in each paper I find myself questioning the way I view the world. How is it that these problems exist today and why am I a bystander? I hastily evaded the topic of my true passion in P3, because frankly I was clueless. Up until that paper, I was certain that my passion laid in my love for the stock market. However, when looking at this “passion” through the lens of the Ikigai, pursuing my parent’s dreams ignores the requisites that give my goals meaning, purpose.
While I purposefully work towards a future on Wall Street, at times I have to force myself to keep going. This is different from working hard to improve, maybe more akin to reluctance due to dissatisfaction. With this dissatisfaction comes fear: fear of being wrong, fear of being inadequate, fear of failing. If I fail, then what do I have left? Maybe nothing, but I didn’t spend years in a higher education without preparing contingency plans. I often forget that my ideal job is not the end of the road. The only thing more unknown than my future is myself, because the way I will perceive or approach the world will be incomparable to how I did years prior. The only thing I can control now is my action plan for the future. These are the steps I can put forth towards my education so that I can confidently go into the workforce, regardless if it’s the one I expected or not.
I’d likely still be going through that existential crisis were it not for Plan II, because the program’s broad curriculum makes me a little more comfortable about my prospects in life. Every class underscores the university’s values on ethical reasoning, and it is my job to carry this awareness throughout every step of my life. My knowledge doesn’t disappear with my failure, but rather stays waiting until I can redirect it to a new path. I know that “with everything falling down around me, I’d like to believe in all the possibilities”[1] of what I am capable of doing. Thinking of my life in that way, I can think of a few options left in the debris of my failure.
I will always have a strong love for art, animals, and Buddhism. These are three things in my life that I could say evoke the most passionate responses from me whether in practice or in discourse. Firstly, everyone has their own outlet for stress; mine comes in the form of drawing. When faced with worry, confusion, anger, or any unpleasant emotion, I articulate my thoughts through pencil strokes. Secondly, when I unwittingly watch a video or movie with animal deaths, I get incredibly emotional. The helplessness of these poor creatures in the face of cynical humans is something that causes intense frustration and sorrow. And finally, I have found myself connecting with my Buddhist self as of late. I’ve always used Buddhism as a moral compass, because religion has never been a defining part of my life. However, the timing of World Literature with my Buddhist organization has brought me closer than ever to integrating these moral lessons into my life. Impermanence, the Four Noble Truths, and the Five Precepts anchor themselves in my life decisions and expand my worldview.
So, left with these three ideas in mind, I have to figure the different ways I can simultaneously advance through my education and stay connected with these interests. The problem I have to get past is that my classes will not always be relevant to my passions. As much as I could try, Investment Management does not exactly cater to Buddhist ideals. But like I expanded my consciousness to “hammer [my] thoughts into unity,”[2] I am capable of taking with me something valuable from each class.
In my P3, I eluded to some vague grasp of the “Truth” in life and how I expect to incorporate that into my future. But, in writing this essay, I realized that it was a pretty half-hearted attempt. For as long as I can remember, my future was synonymous with my career path. At the behest of this essay, I recognized that there was more to life besides finding ways to stand out as a businesswoman. Let me clarify that building upon my ethical reasoning will still be important, but I plan to broaden the applications of it. Besides using compassion to become a better financial analyst, I want to become a better leader. The great thing about leadership is that it isn’t restricted to the people who excel at delegating or producing the most ambitious ideas. “Some roles are more visibly "the leader" than others, but they can all contribute to the overall leadership effort.”[3] And in enforcing this idea can I ascribe ethical reasoning to education, work environments, or life. I want to use my open-mindedness to assist others, rather than exploit the financial markets with fine-tuned methods of deceit. But when I look at my life with the financial career out of the picture, that standard of ethics still stands true. I will always take in others’ perspectives at all times and try to find the most harmonious solution in any situation. And in the process of writing this paper, I realized how now more than ever is the time to start putting this ethical reasoning in to action.
Not too long ago the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced a string of potential budget cuts to reduce our nation’s debt.[4] Many of his proposals were shocking to say the least, but the one that brought me to my feet was the elimination of the National Endowments for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. For all of my life, art has been the vehicle for my emotions. I’ll be sitting in class, pencil hovering over a mockingly difficult exam, focusing all of my attention to a free response problem while my brain is conjuring solutions. Unintentionally, my hand flits across the sheet, outlining small pandas or swirls of stars. Drawing is natural for me. Even when my mind is elsewhere, my hand goes through the motions of mindless doodles like a reflex. So, when the new administration is considering to eliminate this opportunity to create and be creative, how can my conscious self stand back when my unconscious self will never stop drawing?
It is with these facts and while writing this paper that I stopped to consider a world without art. It’d be dreary, unimaginative, and restrictive. I had the privilege to grow up in a household brimming with artistic minds and a plethora of tools at my disposal, but so many children across the country barely have free sheets of paper and pencils. Drawing did more than let me be expressive; it helped me visualize my problems or promote my curiosity. If I’m illustrating a realistic piece, I have to study the proportions and analyze the characteristics of the model that translate well onto the page. If i’m painting a scene, I have to go through constant trial and error to find the corresponding color—correctly accounting for undertones and highlights. By taking away the Endowments for the Arts, the administration is going to be discouraging entire generations of children from a world of extremely critical thinking. Three-hundred million dollars[5] is definitely a steep grant, but the opportunity costs for that money does not touch the value of investing a life enriched by creative thinking.
I know that by working as an artist alone cannot protect this amount of money, but I hope to reach a point in my life where I can dedicate all of my time to advocating for the arts and working with children. This is how my career plan is a means to an end. Thinking back to that ikigai, the world doesn’t need a financial analyst, but my career would supplement the three other parts of my life I need to live comfortably. However, I can’t be content making money without fulfilling that sense of purpose. I still love the stock market, but when the time comes where I won’t have to worry about sustaining myself well into the future, I can instead turn my attention to sustaining the arts for the nation’s future. Sure to some people art can be pretentious or overvalued, but it still means something to someone. And for that reason, regardless of what art means to some child in Midwest America or New England, I will be the one to lead the charge to protect this cultural cornerstone.
It’s not going to be an easy task, especially with how the rest of my college years are laid out. I didn’t really expect to ever put art back into my curriculum after I graduated high school, because it was never something I felt would every substantially complete me, financially and emotionally. However, I don’t think my finance and Plan II track will impede me in any way, because like I said in P3, “Unweaving [my intended curriculum] by reading more, learning more, and challenging myself more is conducive to connecting my ethical reasoning to my future.”[6] Yes, artistic endeavors do require ethical reasoning. Some of the most powerful pieces, like the photo of the Napalm Girl or any of Banksy’s graffiti works are reason enough to show how challenging today’s ideologies through art causes a domino effect around society. In many ways, art is like education. Students connect with their professors and see them “[show] such a passion for thought that, by their example, they make one want to think.”[7] Art works in just the same way.
So in order to foster this same perceptiveness, I have to actively work and pay attention to how my professors think in every class. I think the most valuable classes would be the ones that constantly challenge my thoughts and help me understand other people. For example, the year-long Plan II Philosophy course forces students to face uncomfortable problems or try unorthodox methods of thinking. However, if I really want to engage with children and learn how to advocate for the importance of the arts, I should start thinking about classes that can best articulate my assertions and allow me to interact with younger children to help them express themselves as I did with art. Anything from the social sciences to the heavy writing-based courses like World Literature are the stepping stones for that aspect of my leadership vision.
Writing is not an easy process. In fact, writing is an art. Unfortunately, I do not have the natural inclination to the art of writing as I do the art of drawing, but I still submit to the same processes required to create valuable works. To write something worthwhile like these World Literature papers, one has to thoughtfully consider the points one needs to address in the work in a way that is both persuasive and interesting. Any length of work —blog, essay, thesis— will force the writer to carefully consider each word, choosing only the right ones that allows her “to seek the truth and express it.”[8] I always strive to seek the truth in every class. I may not always be right, but the important thing is that I open myself up to new perspectives to find what’s right. I don’t think I could have really been capable of being as open-minded as I have been without World Literature. Reading novels of walks of life I’ll never meet has helped me better understand this disparate world we live in and motivated me to protect the most basic rights of the underprivileged.
I know I started off this paper with lots of doubt, but thinking thoughtfully about how I can make the world a better place was well worth the torture. All those hoping to learn and succeed should go through the same process of self-discovery to become amore compassionate and contributing member of society. I know that I could set my goals so much higher and broader than encouraging an environment for art, but I know that where I can be most impactful is in a world I know and love.
