“Dove?” You heard him whisper as you felt him moving your hair out of your face. Slowly you opened your eyes. It was dark out already, the basement was dark aside from the street light flowing in and the big metal door being wide open. “Y/n.” He said sternly pulling you from your thoughts. “Ahh there she is. How about a bath?” Albert asks cupping your cheek in his hand. Your eyes lit up, it’s been weeks. He usually brings down a damp rag you use to “clean yourself” with. “A bath? Like..upstairs?” You ask sheepishly avoiding his eyes. He chuckled darkly. “Mhmm upstairs, your filthy and stink.” He states his eyes burning into yours. You felt your cheeks heat up from embarrassment. “Come on let’s go the water will get cold.” He stands up reaching for your hand. You hesitate for a moment, slightly suspicious of his kind behavior. “I wasn’t suggesting you get up, I was telling you to get up.” He growls. Not wanting to piss him off you reached out for his hand letting him pull you up. He held your hand tightly as you both walked up stairs. You passed a kitchen, then down a small hallways and you then reached the small bathroom. Albert pushes you inside gently, turning to close the door and locking it. You were completely trapped inside with him. He stared at you with hungry eyes. The bathroom was steamy and hot. “Wouldn’t want the water to get cold dove.” Albert said just above a whisper. You felt goosebumps cover your whole body. He stepped closer, reaching out to touch your face in a gentle, caring way. “Take off your clothes y/n. Now.” He wasn’t asking. You took a shaky breathe and slowly took off your dirty, ripped skirt. Along with your underwear. They fell to the ground puddling at your feet. Next was your filthy blouse and bra. His eyes never left your body, you don’t even think you saw him blink. You were standing in front of him fully naked. His eyes glistened with something dark and evil. You shudder thinking about it and he notices, laughing slightly. “Well? Aren’t you going to get in? Wouldn’t wanna take a cold bath would you?” You can see him flash a smile at you. He had the top half of his mask on tonight.

You slowly slipped into the bathtub. It was hot and felt amazing. When you fully got in you pulled your legs to your chest. Albert just watched for a few moments, not wanting this to end. Finally he spoke. “Want some company?” He ask so nonchalantly with a smirk. You felt your cheeks heating up from the water or from his question, you couldn’t tell. Some sick twisted part of you did want him to join you. You haven’t really been touched or loved since he took you. You craved it, you craved it from him. “Yes.” You whisper looking down immediately not wanting to look into his eyes. His eyes widen slightly, he wasn’t expecting that. He knew you were just touch starved but he didn’t care. “Mmmm alright my little dove. You have been a good girl. Naughty girls get punishments but good girls can be rewarded.” He sighed as he started to unbutton his cardigan. Albert didn’t have a shirt on under it. Then he moved onto his pants, then boxers. You immediately looked down at the water. He noticed, he notices everything. Albert laughs at your reaction. “Scoot up dove.” He says standing tall above you. You quickly do as he says. Feeling the water ripple as he steps into the hot bath. Lowering himself, both legs are on either side of your body. Your trapped. You feel his arms wrap around you pulling you plush against him. Your back resting on his chest. Looking up at him, he still had that scary mask on you always hated. You slowly feel his right hand moving up your stomach. Shivering at his touch. His hand makes its way to your boob. You gasp as he punches your nipple in between his fingers. You feel him breath in deeply. Massaging your boob softly but every now and then pulling at your nipple. You try to hold back your moans. “Mmmm dove let me hear your pretty little sounds.” He whispers in your ear. You feel him trailing down your stomach towards your most sensitive spot. Finding yourself holding your breathe in anticipation. He chuckles. “You have to breathe y/n.” Albert says as his hand makes it to your sensitive bud. You breathe out shakily, holding back a moan. He slowly starts to draw slow, painfully slow circles. Not being able to hold it back you let out a soft moan. “There you go dove.” He says as he kisses your back. It’s to slow, you need him to speed up, you need more. “Please…please just go faster.” You cry out. “Mmmm” he growls deeply. But he picks up the speed. You whimper and moan out his name. Gripping onto his arm. “Such a pretty girl. You make such pretty sounds my dove.” He whispers. Before you can respond you fee two thick fingers enter you, making you cry out from slight pain and pleasure. His fingers curl up and at cruel pace, hitting the right spot over and over again. “Al…please…I can’t!” You can’t even form a real sentence. “Shhhh it’s okay pretty girl…you’re doing so well. You’re almost done you can take it.” He coos in your ear. That alone almost makes you come undone. One last time he hits the right spot and you cry out in pure pleasure, your ears ringing. He lets you come down off your high holding you gently as you shake, kissing your neck. “Mmm so good dove. You did so so good. I’m proud of my good girl.” Albert says. You both lay in the bath silent for a few minutes. Neither of you wanting to ruin the moment.

“Well, I suppose we should get you all washed up dove.” He says as he pours soap into his hand. You smile softly leaning into him.

Random Mini Astrology Observations: Vedic Edition

Blue Moon review

After almost a week (saw it on February 23rd) of recovering from that train trip and a ton of shitty work things (and, you know, the world), here’s my review for Blue Moon.

I purposefully avoided reading any reviews or details on it, so I could go into it as blind as possible and I haven’t really read up on any now either. I do know that the movie is a bit divisive though and I think I understand why, but I for one LOVE it. Please keep in mind that I’m a depressed writer and theatre nerd, so I’m pretty much the target audience for this. There won’t be any spoilers behind the cut, it’s not a movie that really has “spoilers” and it is a real story with a foregone conclusion, but if you do want to go into it completely blind as well, especially as an Andrew fan, I suggest you stop reading here.

The film is one of those beautiful works of art that are more play than film. It’s shown almost in real time, almost everything takes place in the same bar in the same night, on the same set and there is a certain detachment from realism that gives it a very theatrical feel. In the best sense.

At first glance Ethan Hawke’s Lorenz Hart seems irresistible, bonmots flying off him, an awkward charm flooding the bar and all its patrons. He drinks too much, but it’s the premiere of his former partner’s biggest hit yet, can you really blame him? He’s also smitten with a young college student who is supposed to appear later that night, he soliloquies about love and beauty to the slightly vulgar bartender, engages the piano player, who dreams of Broadway fame with his stories of writing hit songs, and geeks out about the beauty of words with an established writer. It’s all very Oscar Wilde, incredibly witty, a bit offensive, DEEPLY funny and yet the cracks are coming in.

Then they all break open when Rodgers, his former partner, appears with his premiere party. Hart is a sad clown, a genius no doubt, brilliant and funny, but he’s not made for real life.

He fails at simple tasks like showing up on time, fails his friend and therefore keeps falling behind, despite the genius and despite the love the people around him have for him. Boy is it brutal!

The way Linklater, without any gimmickry, shoves a reality lens over all the things Hart says, how there indeed are protagonists and background actors in real life too, but not necessarily for the reasons Hart had mentioned before. The way all the artistry means nothing against necessities, or war, or capitalism, and how people can have affection for someone, but still be out of patience for them and no, not love them back. It’s gorgeous. I could go on for 15 more paragraphs of that, the script is packed with astonishingly beautiful lines and callbacks and they’re executed brilliantly. Uproariously funny and depressingly sad at the same time. Powerful, poetic shit that hits way too close to home.

But I’m here to talk about the important things: I think I know why there are no stills of Andrew out yet and it’s because he just looks too damn hot in this.

You can roll your eyes at this and discard it as fangirl talk, but I’m not making this up, the movie makes a point of it. Hart is dishevelled, balding, with deep lines on his face and comically short. This is emphasised with theatrical means, I think some people had problems with that, but it’s deliberately grotesque! He’s contrasted with Rodgers, dressed in finely tailored clothing, eyes bright, teeth sharp, cheekbones even sharper. He’s healthy, successful, he’s the one people really want and he’s taking them in the end. He’s reality cutting in, sharp and brutal, but not without heart.

Andrew isn’t in the film much, it’s not a big part, but it hits hard and the one scene where Hawke and he go up against each other on the stairs, it's just pure acting gods in their element. Mind-numbingly good! MORE PLEASE!

I can see why some people won’t like it, it’s a bit cerebral, some people might find things to complain about in the casting, others might not enjoy the monologue-ish style, I found there were some lengths right before the finale, but it is a gorgeous piece of art that should be watched by more people than who probably will end up watching it, when it is widely released.

You loved horror movies and let it be known to all. Everyone at the base knew it and it was what you were known for even to those who didn't know you fully . Often referred to as the "Horrorjunkie"

Your dorm was filled with horror movie posters,props from iconic classics and of course you had a bunch of those mini polaroid posters of all your favorite horror movies. Your body is covered in horror movie themed tattoos of all the well known villains and other scary themed things. Your left hand was covered in one giant tattoo that made it look like you were a skeleton. All of your causal/civilian clothes were the Steven Rhodes t-shirts and hoodies.

God forbid anyone lets you pick the movie during movie night . It was gonna be scary obviously. This night you picked Sinister (2012) forcing everyone in the common room. It only got worse when few of your teammates confessed they've never seen it. There you sat grinning wildly knowing the whole movie play by play. Having the ability to mentally time each up in coming jumpscare in your head laughing and smiling to yourself prepared for each scare ,glancing up at them wanting to see their reaction. The infamous lawn mower scene had just happened causing everyone but you to jump and yelp a little , instead you laughed and smiled happily at their reactions finding the whole thing amusing.

Fast forward weeks later,you were sitting on the couch scrolling your phone with " " (This is where you insert whoever you want lol). You both got bored after a while, you move and lay your head onto their lap "wanna watch a movie?" you ask looking up at them "I'll pick" you sang dragging the words smiling . They laughed smiling back "and what horror movie has the honors of your picking today mmph?" they remarked . You sat up and playfully huffed with fake offended expression on your face , putting your hand to your chest "Now who said it was gonna be a horror movie ?" you replied holding back a giggle

"you get called "horrorjunkie" for a reason " they said with a chuckle. You crossed your arms smirking "Touche", you grab the remote and start looking through the horror movie collection on Netflix " How about The Strangers ?" you ask looking at your partner . "Again ? we've watched like ten times already,why do you like it so much?"

you gasped "how could I not love it? its's such a classic !, and the timing of its release ! It was something never done before ! it scared the shitout everyone making them fear being in their own homes,making them worry when answering their door and the simple fact it was based off a true event?!?! absolutely sickening" you explained in a fast and excited manner.

And that's how you both spent the rest of your night and ranting about each of your beloved scary movies along with the cast,the directors ,the lore,the meaning and messages behind them, the remakes and sequels all of it

DC Comics is changing up the format of DC Pride for the special's 5th anniversary. In past years DC Pride was an anthology series spotlighting LGBTQIA+ heroes, but in 2025 the special will instead feature a "singular story arc of interweaving narratives." These narratives are framed by an Alan Scott story from Tim Sheridan, Emilio Pilliu, and Giulio Macaione.

Several of DC comics' heroes will come together when "a century-old tavern, the center of queer life in Gotham City, unexpectedly announces its imminent closure. Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke have collaborated on some of US cinema's most stunningly insightful and humane films – the Before trilogy and Boyhood included – so the director and actor should make beautiful music together again in Blue Moon, which premieres at the festival next Tuesday. Like Before Sunset, it's a real-time film, unfolding over 100 minutes in 1943, on the opening night of Rodgers and Hammerstein's first Broadway smash, Oklahoma!. At the party after the show, its composer, Richard Rodgers (Andrew Scott), soaks up the acclaim alongside friends and admirers. But where does that leave Lorenz Hart (Hawke), who was Rodgers' lyricist and creative partner for 20 years before Oscar Hammerstein took over? The one-time toast of Broadway is now ground down by alcoholism and depression, with only the company of a protégée (Margaret Qualley) and a bartender (Bobby Cannavale) to keep him going. Is it too early to start talking about 2026's Oscars? Probably, but considering the level of talent involved, and considering that the Academy loves true stories of American entertainment legends, Blue Moon could well be in the mix.

I had briefly mentioned this in my Tomie post but Swati & Punarvasu's themes are manifest in Barbie because Barbie is not a person, she is a type of doll, and she can be anyone or anything. Barbie is a whole universe into herself, this is the cosmic abundance and infinitude of Swati & Punarvasu.

Its interesting to me that many Punarvasus have often spoken about "creating your reality".

Octavia Butler, the writer has Punarvasu Rising (the themes of this nak is vv apparent in her work but I'll perhaps discuss that in a future post) and this^^ is a page from her journal that she wrote in the 1970s wayyy before manifestation was a "thing".

Butler grew up very poor in an era of racial segregation and suffered from dyslexia. She overcame great odds to become one of the best-selling sci-fi novelists of all time.

Tesla discovered automatic current transmission & generation technology which is responsible for modern day wireless connections. He's also super Punarvasu core as a person, he had eidetic memory, apparently did not sleep more than 2 hours per night, was interested in Vedic cosmology & philosophy (he used terms like akasha & prana to describe the relationship between matter & energy). I find this quote by him very interesting, "To me, the universe is simply a great machine which never came into being and never will end". I personally don't believe in the Big Bang theory and I'm inclined to believe that the universe has always existed instead of having come into existence at one point, which imo, is a very anthropocentric idea. Tesla's quote is a reflection of the boundless nature of Aditi, who is the cosmic mother, she embodies creation.

Interestingly enough, several decades before the Big Bang theory gained mainstream acceptance and was studied by scientists, Edgar Allan Poe published a lecture/essay on the matter titled Eureka: A Prose Poem in 1848 (!!!!). He had Swati Rising

Can you believe that he, a man with zero scientific background essentially came up with ideas that would serve as the basis of 20th century scientific discoveries & theories??? That too in 1848???

A writer & poet who dropped out of college came up with all that in 1848. Swatis & Punarvasus have the ability to understand complex concepts, systems, and processes intuitively. This is why they are so good at analysis, strategy and planning. They have a futuristic vision because its easy for them to see how current events will affect other things and manifest in the future. Those who don't have these placements will struggle to understand what this is like because most of us aren't endowed with this sort of ability to see the trees and the forest all at once.

Interestingly, the scientist Georges Lemaître who first proposed the "Big Bang theory" of the origin of the universe, calling it the "hypothesis of the primaeval atom", and later calling it "the beginning of the world" is a Punarvasu Sun.

Leonardo da Vinci is known for his foresight and is considered a visionary. He, in the 15th & 16th centuries, pondered upon the possibilities of human flight and left behind diagrams and models of the helicopter, the parachute, the machine gun, the humanoid robot, the revolving bridge, the ideal city and much more. He had Ketu in Punarvasu.

George Orwell, who was a fierce critic of totalitarianism had Swati Rising, if you read his works, you can see how he's able to analyse the effects and consequences of the same, especially 1984 which was sooo ahead of its time in the sense that much of what was written in the book is eerily similar to what's going on in the world right now.  The novel examines the role of truth and facts within societies and how they can be manipulated.

Swatis & Punarvasus are super Futuristic, as individuals or visionaries as well as in their art & work. They dominate in the surreal/scifi genre.

Robin Williams- Swati Rising stars as an android in Bicentennial Man which is a movie about a robot who learns how to be human. Transcending humanity is a big theme in the works of Swati natives.

On this note, I have noticed several Swati & Punarvasu natives star in movies featuring/about cloning 👀 This does not surprise me as I had already mentioned this in my Tomie post but it is fascinating how Swati & Punarvasu's ability to be many many versions of themselves is made manifest in this trope of clones.

I have to mention how both Rahu & Jupiter have a very boundless, obese energy that is hard to contain. This can be manifest negatively because its very easy for energy of this proportion to be misused and misdirected but when they're harnessed positively, these individuals are capable of envisioning change that have few/no other parallels.

Moon (2009) is a movie that features the main character and his clones. Sam Rockwell, Swati Sun plays the main character.

Tom Cruise, Punarvasu moon (acc to Claire Nakti) stars in Oblivion and plays a clone of himself. One version of him is good, his "clone" is evil. The battle between good & evil within oneself is a VERY Jupiterian trope (and I shall make a post solely about that in the near future).

Multiplicity is a 90s scifi-comedy about a guy who clones himself so that he can do all the things he wants to do. Michael Keaton who plays the protagonist has Swati Moon

The Sixth Day is a movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger (Punarvasu stellium) and it is about cloning. The title is a reference to the Abrahamic Genesis concept of how God created mankind on the sixth day.

This in itself is very interesting because Punarvasu is the 7th nakshatra and in the Bible, it is said "And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation."

7 is a number that has profound spiritual meaning and is present in many religions as a figure of significance. From this verse taken from the Book of Genesis, it is interesting to note that ""7" is the culmination of creation. It is the day on which God rested because he had already created. It is not nothingness, it is the day on which everything already existed. This is a significant Punarvasu theme.

Replicas stars Keanu Reeves (Punarvasu Moon) as a neuroscientist who tries to revive his deceased family members by cloning them.

Its interesting how in these films, natives appear either as a clone or as the ones who do the cloning, furthermore connecting it back to Punarvasu's creation trope.

Harrison Ford, Punarvasu sun & moon stars as in and as the Blade Runner (1982) where he must "pursue and terminate four replicants who stole a ship in space and have returned to Earth to find their creator."

Gakuryu Ishii, Punarvasu Moon is another filmmaker who makes movies that heavily centre around truth, reality, consciousness, the future etc.

I recommend his movie Mirrored Mind which heavily deals with identity, consciousness etc (its vaguely reminiscent of Perfect Blue)

Robert de Niro Punarvasu Rising, stars in the movie Awakenings (based on a true story) as a catatonic patient who has an "awakening" before tragically going back into catatonia, Robin Williams, Swati Rising stars as the doctor who administers a drug that induces this awakening.

In Vedic philosophy, there are 3 gunas, Rajas, Tamas & Sattva.

Tamas is a state of darkness, inertia, inactivity, 

Rajas is a state of energy, action, change, and movement.

Sattva is a state of harmony, balance, joy, and intelligence. 

Punarvasu belongs to the Rajas guna whereas Swati belongs to Tamas guna.

Tamas can be described as a state of statis or stagnation as there is no transformation and thus no change. Punarvasu natives are prone to passivity and it is only when they face their own destructive shadow, do they emerge out of passivity to their natural state of Rajas. In this movie, Deniro's experience where he emerges from his catatonia with a desire for freedom and to live life to the fullest before eventually accepting the fact that his condition cannot be remedied inspires the Doctor played by Robin Williams to emerge out of his own shell and live life more fully.

Punarvasus are often restricted by situations beyond their control yet they are possessed by a yearning to live life to the fullest. Swatis often have unmeasured freedom and do not know how to utilize it, they are restricted by their own character.

The Gaia Hypothesis proposed by James Lovelock (1972) suggests that living organisms on the planet interact with their surrounding inorganic environment to form a synergetic and self-regulating system that created, and now maintains, the climate and biochemical conditions that make life on Earth possible.

It is a holistic view, which is generally not appreciated in science that likes to favour randomness, chance or whatever instead of the innate harmony and union behind creation.

James Lovelock has Punarvasu moon & Swati rising

Lynn Margulis who co-developed this theory with him most likely has Revati Moon and I will be exploring her symbiotic view of evolution on a different post as it goes beyond the scope of this one.

Edit: as @brundlefly333 pointed out, the French philosopher Henri Bergson (Punarvasu Moon) has a book called Creative Evolution which extrapolates that whilst "evolution of species can come from external factors "like natural selection", it most importantly (comes) from an internal impulse (a creative force). This creative force is inherently unpredictable and non-linear, leading to the emergence of novelty and complexity in living organisms over time.

I find his "Cone of Memory" (depicted above) hypothesis very fascinating.

The Cone of Memory model can be imagined as an inverted cone, with the apex representing the present moment, the base symbolizing the entirety of one’s past experiences, and the cone’s vertical axis signifying the flow of time. As the present moment progresses, the apex of the cone moves upward along the axis, continuously stretching the cone outward as it incorporates new experiences and memories into a person’s consciousness. The memories from our past experiences are layered into the cone, with the most recent memories residing closer to the apex and older memories located further down, towards the base.

Bergson’s model emphasizes the active role of individual perception, memory, and experience in shaping one’s consciousness. The human mind, as depicted by Bergson, interacts with the objective world while drawing from its accumulated memories to create individual experiences in real time. The Cone of Memory focuses on the dynamic interplay between perception, memory, and experience, hoping to account for the generation of novel understandings and interpretations of reality.

Bergson’s emphasis on experience at the personal level also has significant implications for how we understand the self. In his view, the self is not a static entity but rather a constantly developing process, shaped by the dynamic interplay of perception, memory, and experience. This more fluid conception of the self contrasts sharply with many traditional notions of a fixed, unchanging identity. It also invites us to recognize the transformative power of our own experiences and encounters in the continuous interweaving of the past and present in our temporal consciousness.

Steiner's breadth of work encompasses many fields, he pioneered modern-day organic farming, anthroposophical medicine (what we call alternate medicine including homeopathy, massages and frequency work etc rooted in the human body's ability to heal itself) invented the Waldorf education system (alternative schooling) and tried to merge science and spirituality.

All of this is vvv Punarvasu & Swati coded because its these natives who are frequently drawn to non-traditional systems of thought & experience and also merging a vast variety of techniques + being well versed in a lot of different fields etc comes down to having the inner space to hold all of it. This is literally not something most other people can do. Pursuit of knowledge can easily drain/deplete people but Punarvasu & Swati natives have a boundless thirst for knowledge and innately understand the profound truth that everything is connected.

Amartya Sen, the Indian economist and philosopher has Swati Sun, he is best known for his contributions to welfare economics, social choice theory, and development economics. His work incorporates the same holistic view of how everything exists in close interaction with everything else, interconnectedness as well as an all encompassing-ness are themes that dominate his work. Within the framework of his science-fiction stories, Heinlein repeatedly addressed certain social themes: the importance of individual liberty and self-reliance, the nature of sexual relationships, the obligation individuals owe to their societies, the influence of organized religion on culture and government, and the tendency of society to repress nonconformist thought. He also speculated on the influence of space travel on human cultural practices.

This is yet another example of the interconnectedness of Punarvasu as well as the analytical nature of these natives.

see, the thing about Wildcat that makes me kind of sad, is I had watched the interview with Ethan & Maya Hawke & Bishop Barron, and Maya had mentioned something about how she found it personally moving that the last shot was of a bird—namely a peacock spreading its feathers—both as a symbol that held personal meaning to Flannery and with it being a flightless bird, trapped, as she in some ways was as a chronically ill, handicapped woman whose main skill was writing.

So from this, I had imagined a closing scene where perhaps in a moment of frustration of something not working—paralleling the beginning of the movie—Flannery takes a break from writing to go sit on her front steps and maybe feed her birds—you could do another bit showing the difficulty she has just crossing the house on crutches to go sit and do the task—and one of her peacocks spreads its tail feathers. Then we could get a quiet smile from her, seeing it as a fulfillment of an earlier line you could have put in where she mentions her philosophy about peacocks, that a peacock spreading its tail feathers is what she expects the second coming to be like, suddenly, unasked for, simply something that happens, beautiful and mysterious and terrifying to behold and completely out of our control. And also a sort of answer to prayer, one of those miracles as is the type we get today, oddly specific and inexplicable to anyone but the receiver, a reassurance that God heard and understood her and would be with her even through her solitude and her work. And then you could close the movie on a shot of the peacock’s tail feathers.

And I got real attached to that mental image, and that is….not what the closing shot was and I’m still kind of sad about it.

He also knew how to rig any game in the book. Loaded dice, marked cards, you name it, his old man taught it to him before he was even ten. Then his dad slipped up and the police managed to catch him after years of looking and carted him off to the state penitentiary. Ace kept running scams, because it was the only life he was ever taught, and it got him into the Refuge, where he met Jack Kelly (or Francis Sullivan as he was known at the time. Ace helped him come up with the name Jack Kelly, as he had helped his father come up with names for new scams all the time), who he also escaped with on the back of Teddy Roosevelt's carriage. And the two of them have been in the Midtown Boys' Lodging House selling newspapers ever since.

Dynamics

Jack: The two of them are two peas in a pod. They're the oldest of the newsies so that's to be expected. They looked out for each other in the Refuge and have continued to look out for each other ever since.

Davey: Ace was right there with Jack when he was defending Davey from Weasel ("Yeah, weasie, take it easy on the new kid, will ya? He's just pointin' out ya miscounted. Cool it off!") When the newsies include Davey in card games, Ace will try and offer to help Davey cheat when he's in the trenches, but of course Davey always refuses.

Les: Les thinks Ace is the coolest guy in all of New York. Ace actually taught Les all of his card tricks, and also his secrets to playing cards like he was born with the deck in his hand. But he told Les to never use those tricks until he absolutely needed to, because if Davey ever learned about it, he'd have a heart attack. He calls Les 'pippy' to get away with calling him 'pipsqueak' (its all lighthearted)

Racetrack: They get along well. Ace will sometimes steal Race's cigars, and hold them over his head as Race tries to jump up and grab them ("Give 'em back, Ace-!" "Only if ya say please!~") People have actually mistaken them for actually being brothers (and the same thing happens to Ace with Jack). Race also gets very annoyed when Ace beats him at poker (again) ("What the hellaya doin', Ace?! How do ya keep beatin' me?!" "*Ace pulls the cigars to his chest like poker chips* Maybe you just suck at poker, Racie~")

Spot: Ace and Spot get along shockingly well. Of course, Spot blows up during card games out of frustration, but Ace only smirks at him. Ace calls him 'Spottie' and everyone is shocked he lived the first time he called Spot that. He even ruffles Spot's hair sometimes when they hang out, and the other newsies are just staring in horror like "HOW IS HE NOT DEAD AFTER THAT-"

Crutchie: Ace claims to not have a favorite 'little brother' (all of the newsies that are younger than him and Jack) but he does. And its Crutchie (later he has two, and the other is Les). And dear GOD, is it obvious. Crutchie is the only one of the newsies to ever beat Ace, and its because Ace clearly let him win, but the newsies let it slide because of how excited Crutchie clearly was. If any of the newsies decide to start picking on Crutchie, they just have to see Ace glaring at them and they immediately quiet down.

Favorite movie from 01?

[Give me a year and I'll give you my favourite films / recommendations]

Perhaps "favourite" isn't the best word, perhaps the best word is "biggest obsession", but I have to go with Mulholland Drive. David Lynch is a very special case, you're either into him or you ain't, and arguments either way are of little use. I just want to note 2 things, about Lynch in general and Mulholland in particular:

Contrary to all appearances, it actually makes sense. It may be a weird sense, a dream sense (literally a dream, for like half of this movie), but it's not random.

It doesn't need to make sense to you to be enjoyable. It's perfectly cool to treat it like a trip, and just get lost in the highway sauce. You can revisit it later, and think about it and look up what others have made of it, but it's optional.

Now, these 4 are my favourite 2001 films:

Spirited Away needs no introduction, it's widely thought as the best Ghibli film, and I love it to bits.

I'm a complete sucker for Moulin Rouge! and for truth! beauty! freedom! love!, and will accept no criticism at this time.

El espinazo del diablo (The Devil's Backbone) is early Guillermo del Toro, and a sort of prelude to Pan's Labyrinth: it's horror, it's set during the Spanish Civil War, and it takes a stance, along with its own supernatural elements.

And I simply adore Hedwig and the Angry Inch (second musical lol). Does that need an introduction, on 2024 tumblr?

Also of interest:

Monster's Ball is the best from the rest, an incredible drama with Halle Berry's best performance. Very disturbing from start to finish. "Billy Bob Thornton plays a prison guard who begins a relationship with a woman (Halle Berry), unaware that she is the widow of a man (Sean Combs) he assisted in executing."

Ocean's Eleven is the fully on-brand film, it pretty much defined what modern American heist films should be like. No small feat!

Das Experiment: so the Stanford experiment inspired some notoriously bad takes, not least by Zimbardo himself. It also inspired this amazing film. Please don't bother with the pointless American remake. (I owe tumblr a serious post about the Stanford experiment btw, but this is not the place.)

The Brotherhood of the Wolf is surely the wackiest AND darkest action / horror / period / swashbukcling / wuxia / monster film out there. We're in 18th century France, there's the legendary beast of Gévaudan, and cults, and spies, and all of the above.

Il mestiere delle armi (The Profession of Arms) is a shoutout to @wearemercs, it's a realistic war film with landsknechts and condottieri in 16th century Italy, we don't see that every day.

@feyariel I remember that Metropolis was wonderful and I loved it, but not much else about it. Sorry, it's been a while and I have shit for memory!
