Lighter x Reader, but it’s doomed. By that I mean the relationship is impossible. Lighter just can't open up, he just can't bear losing one more and being used like the debt collectors used him. So he made a vow to not make deep connections to spare himself the pain of loss. He cares about the Sons of Calydon, he says that it’s just a basic level friendship, but they’re like family to him. He denies it, but once he realizes, he’ll shut himself out. The same happens to his and the reader's relationship, and the reader can't stop it, they’re helpless. No matter how hard they try to help, Lighter’s walls are too built up, too hard to break down. If the relationship gets started, which I doubt it will, will just be constant stress for the reader, constant arguments about Lighter shutting himself out and not making an attempt to heal, and constant pain on both sides. No matter how much they love each other, pain will get in the way.

ooh this one hits a little close to home as i used to be someone that couldn’t handle letting my walls down for another to come in and love me. i don’t have much to add on, in all honesty.

but i can completely see this happening and a part of me does wish that he actually interacted with us (proxy) like this in game. i know we heard his deepest secrets and all but i do think that lighter loves really slowly. the slowest burn of the century and it isn’t really his fault. trauma responses and all, he doesn’t want it to happen again.

i do think lighter genuinely has care and love for you. it’s just the fear of loving and losing, he cant just make empty promises when he knows that he’ll go back to bad habits again. so he’d much rather spare you of it all, he believes he’s difficult to love in that way. he knows that being with you is painful and definitely not good for the both of you, he really does want to heal himself but maybe not all wounds can be healed by the love of another.

it’s hard actually to write for lighter and not feel the need to write a slowburn. maybe i should do one, idk if people would like it though. thank you for this and i haven’t kept up with arcane but i shall assume that this is the general meaning of the song.
