I think another element of Orym's involvement in this whole plot that is getting misconstrued or otherwise used inappropriately is Liam's statement that Orym can't be objective about this.

It's true that he can't be objective about the person who murdered his husband! I think very few people would be! But that doesn't change the fact that it is in fact completely and yeah, objectively true that the Vanguard murdered his husband because they wanted to get to Keyleth to test if Vax would show up, and so Keyleth's guards obviously tried to prevent an attack on Keyleth, and not only were they killed for defending her, they were killed in a way that specifically prevented resurrection, to no known benefit.

Orym's lack of objectivity doesn't mean he's in the wrong or that he should have to make himself to see the other side of "maybe the people who killed innocent guards as part of their moon experiments have a point." It just means that, for example, even if Abbadina is very pleasantly and calmly saying "oh I don't have any stakes in the moon thing nor do I know this guy who talked over the ley line broadcasting system, I just think he's right about the gods," he's going to leave the house and sleep outside instead of calmly listening. He's not going to be able to make that more general and detached argument about power and murder that Laudna and Ashton can make (also informed by their past experiences, but a little more removed). This is, for him, extremely personal; but he is still correct.

I think a comparable if obviously much less morally/theologically fraught example would be that Laudna, understandably, gets upset when Ashton talks to her about his own experiences with loneliness. It's a great scene, because both characters have experienced pretty profoundly lonely times in their lives.

Would it be appropriate for someone to say "well, Laudna obviously can't be objective here; she's relying too much on her own past experiences to inform her judgment, so we should ignore her"? I think it's pretty obvious that's an absolutely fucking stupid thing to say; but that's what people are saying when they're bringing up Orym's emotional response. People are still allowed to have pretty strong subjective feelings about things that objectively happened.

canonically, is percy the type of person that’s too embarrassed/stuffy to say “i love you” or show pda to vex in public?

You seem to be asking for a straightforward ruling and sadly, I cannot give you one because you're assuming the factors in play and assuming, so far as I can tell, wrongly.

Percy is a very private person. He's hesitant to show affection to anyone, even Keyleth - his best friend and one of the only people he reliably accepts hugs from in the whole group. Even Vex's kisses to his cheek make him blushy and stuttery before they get together, but it's not really about him being embarrassed or stuffy - it's upbringing and trauma.

The man was tortured, remember. He has every reason to be incredibly iffy about touch, especially non-consensual touch, from relative strangers and people he doesn't like or trust.

Additionally, Percy has said before "We didn't touch in my family," and Taliesin has elaborated that he was kind of riffing on a British/Prussian idea of stoicism and not showing affection much even within family. Percy isn't really that opposed to physical affection, he's just more used to verbal expression of affection and gift-giving, and was probably taught that needing physical affection was childish - everyone else's liking for it (aside, notably, from Vex) probably contributed to his feeling like the only adult in the room.

He rarely initiates hugs - usually only when he's drunk or highly emotional or both and usually with Keyleth - and rarely initiates physical affection at all - other exceptions being things like the kiss with Vex - and has been known to recoil from physical affection with certain people - Tiberius after the Slayer's Take; one can point out Percy was recovering from injuries, but he did also accept Keyleth hugs then despite that. We also know that when in a bad mood with someone - Keyleth, after he got blinded because of her - he can be more standoffish, because Percy is a prickly bastard sometimes, especially when he feels hurt or betrayed.

I mean, why wouldn't he? The most significant time he was hurt and betrayed, his personal tutor betrayed his whole family and he was tortured. What started out as probably a mild teenage defensiveness has been drastically amplified by severe trauma.

Further, Percy has his own self-worth issues; combined with his upbringing he is very unlikely to impose his desires on others especially where they relate to affection. It gets easier the longer and better he knows someone - hence his increased ease hugging Keyleth over the course of the campaign, and how he's perfectly comfortable going arm in arm with Vex at several points.

And tying back to what I said earlier - Percy is fine with verbal expressions of affection; it's actually the thing he's most comfortable with - and even sometimes tips his hand with, because he can be so verbally expressive. Who here remembers "Never forget you're my favourite and I'm so sorry"? Verbal affection is far and away what Percy is most comfortable with, closely followed by gift-giving. His awkwardness around physical affection isn't stuffiness or embarrassment - it's his upbringing and his trauma. He gets more affectionate as it goes on and while his sense of privacy means he clearly has some ideas of what is and isn't appropriate - "This is a deeply inappropriate convincing mena-mechanism and it is working" when Vex is holding his face in front of everyone to convince him to come with her to Elysium - he also has no compunctions being sickeningly cute with her verbally and kissing her in public - remember the debate over who gets death ward? And the fact that, when told to "Just kiss already" both Laura and Taliesin just went "we do"?

So, TL;DR: It's not embarrassment or stuffiness that makes Percy hesitant with physical affection, it's his upbringing and trauma, and over time, he gets increasingly at ease with it when it's people he likes and trusts. Verbal affection, meanwhile, is absolutely one of his most preferred ways to express affection, and he is absolutely unstinting in it.

He's never going to be unable to say "I love you" to Vex in public - when fighting Thordak he goes out of his way to reassure Vex that of all the things he regrets, being with her and showing his love for her is not one of those things. Percy is deeply considerate of his loved ones (if not always the most reliable about it with others and people he's drifted from, see: Cassandra) and, knowing her self-worth issues, he is never going to let Vex doubt he loves her. He may have compunctions about certain forms of publicly shown affection, due to his upbringing and the etiquette he was raised with and his sense of privacy, but he also knows how easily some of that could, for Vex, butt up against her feeling unwanted or like something to be ashamed of and hidden, and he will never ever contribute to those feelings. Percy loves Vex, is aware of her self-worth issues and the trauma she gained from Syngorn, and will do everything in his power to reassure her and help her feel loved. Even if that means he feels uncomfortable - before Umbrasyl, the soot facepaint, Percy refusing until Vex draws a line down his face and his only response is "I feel violated but thank you".

Percy has his hangups, but he will always end up doing all he can to set those aside if he thinks they'll hurt Vex. He loves her and the last thing he wants to do is hurt her.

Aw thank you so much!!! You all are about to learn how I suck at humor lol XD You also didn’t specify au or not so we are going supernatural au, takes place after Keyleth and Vex are saved after being kidnapped by the clasp. Also apologies if this isn't the best I haven't written a lot of either of these two before.

Best Friends prompt: #1 Whispering a joke to them, causing them to laugh loudly at a boring event or inappropriate time.

It’s been a rough day and gods is Pike happy they are finally able to rest. The old abandoned shed on the Ashari property isn’t the most sanitary place for their bleeding wounds but at least it offers some protection from the cold.

She took a minute to collect her breath before taking stock of everyone. Scanlan is being melodramatic on a old crate complaining about the recent events, Percy was checking over Keyleth but occasionally stealing glances filled with barely concealed worry to Vex-Good god he needs to get his head out of his ass and actually talk to her!-, Vax was trying to check over Vex who just kept telling him off saying she’s fine-No you ain’t bitch let your brother check you before I come over there!-, and Grog was standing next to her stretching a bit and popping his back.

Pike walks to the end of the shed to rest against the wall, still keeping everyone within her line of sight, Grog joining her. She closes her eyes.

Today, well more like this entire week, has been very very stressful for everyone and to be honest? She needs a break from everyone’s drama, with Percy and Vex’s awkward denial of their love for each other and then there’s Vax and this whole Clasp thing happening which because the man wears his heart on his sleeves they knew that getting at Vex AND Keyleth would really hurt him, luckily the Clasp apparently had no clue Kiki was a freakin werewolf. And don’t even get her started on whatever the fuck is happening between her and Scanlan.

Pike’s disturbed from her thoughts by Grog poking her shoulder, looking up to him curiously. “What’s up buddy?” She says as he leanings down to whisper to her while pointing.

“You’d think Keyleth would act more like a puppy doggy than Vax.” He whispers to her with a snort, she follows his point. Sure enough Vax was looking like a love sick puppy while he watched Keyleth, Pike could not contain her laughter at all making Grog laugh as well and caused everyone to suddenly turn to her and Grog confused.

“Sorry, sorry!” She says trying to contain her laughter, Grog chuckling beside her. After giving the two of them some curious looks they go back to what they were doing. Pike elbows Grog roughly.

“Thanks, buddies.” She says softly to which Grog just grins.

Chats openly with Percy about the attractiveness of Vax's wings in full earshot of Vax when he sees the wings deployed for the first time.

The temporarily-coming-out-of-retirement adventurer (Allura) played by Matt Mercer: Heavy sigh at overhearing Keyleth ask to pet Vax's wings while the group is in the middle of trying to figure out what's going on with the spooky lair (including Percy's tasting of mystery substances) and comments about it reminding her how "ridiculous" her own adventuring party used to be.

Come on, Allura, you can get into the spirit of things and make socially-questionable to socially-inappropriate choices, too! We're all friends here (except possibly the undead skulls lying around). Just please don't ingest the mystery substances.

Vex: Scrapes a mysterious "burgundy"-colored dried substance out of a mysterious bowl in an old necromancer lair. Vex: "This is fucking blood." Percy: "Can I taste it?"

...Is Percy channeling Grog today or what? There are so many reasons not to put mystery substances from something's lair in your mouth, and the strong possibility of it being blood only adds to to the list.

A/n: I’ve typed couple so much now it seems really funny and sounds weird now 😂.

Vax:

Are they a couple? couple

-alright, so I kid you not, people have no clue you are a thing until you blatantly tell them. 

-Most people don’t even realize you are that close.

-Vex only knows about you two because Vax is her brother. Out of Vox Machina Grog is the only other one that knows you are a couple and Percy just thinks you both have feelings for each other. Scanlan can’t even tell and he knows everything when it comes to the mercenaries' romantic lives.

-You aren’t secretive in your relationship, you are both just far more reserved. Neither of you is huge into PDA and you are both very sneaky.

-it is not hard for the two of you to escape from your friends to be alone together or to flirt in front of others without them recognizing it.

-you both are always next to each other too. No matter if you were fighting, eating, or in a cart you were always at each other’s side.

-Vax absolutely adores you and you feel the same. You are both entirely supportive of one another. 

-when you are drunk you both show more affection towards each other. Then again you both show more affection towards everyone. When one of you have had something to drink, that one tends to always be touching the other, whether it’s hand holding, foot nudging, or just leaning on the other.

-your relationship with Vax is revealed to the group when Scanlan and Pike find you both making out in a closet in a pub.

-Pike’s reaction was far less inappropriate than Scanlans which was somewhere along the lines of “I don’t know when this started, but I would love to join.”

-after that Pike just goes pink, scolding Scanlan. You all return to the group.

-when Scanlan reveals what he saw the other two are in shock, while Grog just says, “You didn’t know?”

-“wait, you knew?” Pike questioned.

-“yeah, wasn’t it obvious. They flirt like all the time. Did none of you notice?”

Vex:

Chill couple

-super, super chill. You guys are like the cool couple that everyone thinks is awesome. 

-you are both great with nature and your perspective weapons. Vex sticks with her bow, while your weapon of choice is the chain-sickle. However, you tend to stick with knives more often than not because of the clumsy ness of your own group.

-(we’ll skip over the time your weapon wrapped around Scanlan pinning his arms to his side. His comments on that experience were not something Vex liked. Scanlan was scared shitless of your girlfriend for days)

-you both like to spend time talking and bonding while sharpening knives and creating arrowheads.

-Neither if you care for extreme pda. Most of the time you elbow and nudge each other or rest your arm on the other’s shoulders.

-you both enjoy making the other flustered in certain situations. You both never take it too far though. To get her flustered all you have to do is kiss her cheek lightly and lingering, somewhat ghostly and fairly intimately. To get you flustered she grabs your chin with her hand and carefully places her lips on yours for a few seconds.

-The entire group is very supportive of your relationship. Percy and Vax are very supportive. Sometimes Vax and Scanlan make fun of the two of you a little bit because of how close you are.

-you both also like never fight. Really, you don’t get in arguments that much and are typically always on the same page.

-as chill as you both are, Scanlan will make comments that set Vex off. You tend to hold her back and calm her down. Most of the time you just hold her hand and rub circles in her knuckles with your thumb.

-sometimes when you're feeling anxious or bored she’ll let you braid her hair.

-you guys like definitely cuddle up together before bed or when you are just chilling. Sometimes you sit between her legs. Other times you sit behind her off of the ground messing with her hair. Once more, you definitely do the arm over the shoulders. It’s great for whispering to the other.

-also and lastly, you guys have like an infinite amount of inside jokes.

Pike:

Best friends couple

-best friend goals right here. Like you are so romantically and platonically meant for each other. 

-people honestly can’t tell if your in a relationship or just friends until someone says it outright or you kiss or something.

-Pike is so sweet and you are too. Pike you and Grog are like the most kind group and Grog loves to get in on hug reunions when you guys haven’t seen each other in a while.

-Pike and you are both very supportive people and it’s really great for the both of you cause at times you both definitely need it.

-no doubt, having you by her side definitely helps with her faith.

-you do not keep anything from one another. Like at all. Whatever one of you knows the other knows too. There is no doubt that she knows everything about you.

-once more you are besties in love.  Totally started as friends but wanted more but didn’t want to ruin your friendship. When you both told each other this you definitely laughed it all off. Life partners and partner goals definitely met.

-I cannot explain it, but while Grog is like your guys biggest supporter the close second is definitely Scanlan.

- He is like super close to you. Definitely very good friends and always pushes you and Pike together, even before you were a couple.

-you and Pike like to hold hands and lean your heads against each other.

-pda isn’t huge on your guys front other than that.

-you both definitely get super like crazy when drunk. Combo moves with her magic and singing songs while swaying together.

-definitely the kind of couple that makes and wears flower crowns for the other person.

Scanlan:

Power-couple

-So, surprisingly Scanlan is like super soft for you unlike what others would think.

-total gentleman except for when his mind is in other places.

-power couple, not because everyone loves you and wants to be you, but like you together is like more powerful than either of you could ever be alone.

-definitely smarter together. You are like one functional person which separated you two aren’t really.

-you both create elaborate schemes to steal and exploit people.

-half of the things he’s gifted you, you guys got while lying, manipulating and stealing. You are both very good at being charming and persuasive.

-you guys flirt a lot. Like all the time, it’s half of the shit that comes out of your mouth and practically all that comes out of his.

-you are always together. He is glued to your side.

-if you are away from each other you only have him on your mind and he is annoying the crap out of whoever he is with because he won’t stop talking about you.

- he thinks you are the most amazing person in the world.

-most definitely writes songs about you. As confident as he is, he does sometimes get insecure about his music, mainly how real his words are in his songs,and his abilities with you.

-Scanlan is not really a fighter. He doesn’t think he can protect you as well as the rest of the group could.

- it doesn’t take him long to realize that that isn’t that much of an issue. One too many drinks led to another and some asshole made a comment about Scanlan. Let’s just say that bar fight you had left him both incredibly impressed and very turned on.

-PDA, hell yeah, it’s Scanlan. You sometimes have to tell him to stop. Sometimes you will make him flustered in the worst situations. Never when you're in danger, just if you're in front of important people. 

-Scanlan definitely likes to be held. Total small spoon in my book. After all he needs some comfort and you love being that for him.

Percy:

Inseparable couple (but in a sweet way)

-childhood friends. Went through hell together at Whitestone and both somehow got out. 

- definitely spent childhood together with parents knowing you would end up together. They were planning your wedding before you were even ten.

-you both met up after your family had already escaped the town. Percy was devastated and spent days crying, you just held him and brought him food and water and tried to get him to sleep.

-you were devastated about his sister and his family when he told you what happened.

-you guys definitely just somehow ended up romantically involved naturally. After Whitestone you both became inseparable and super affectionate and protective of one another.

-let’s make this known, when he’s going to bed you go to bed with him, when he’s awake you're awake, when he’s stressed you are right beside him and vice Versa.

-you are always there for him, especially when it involves his family.

-you like to watch him make his guns. When he gets too worked up or won’t stop tinkering you take off his glasses. Most of the time afterwards you lead him to your bed. On the rare occasion you grabbed them to joke around he will tickle you for them back like you guys did when you were younger.

-he will make weapons for you and will teach you how too as well if you ask.

-if you ask he will show you hands on, standing behind you, arms in yours, guiding you through everything.

-you will name your weapons together.

-you love to play with his hair, and he loves to hug you. You both take comfort in one another.

-you both like to cuddle when you read, even if the other person isn’t reading, which is great for hugging and hair touching.

-he surprisingly is more PDA prone than others expect. Once more you are inseparable. Will kiss your temple and forehead very often, he loves it and you love it. You like to snuggle your head into his neck. He will spontaneously grab your hand and spin you into him bringing your bodies into direct contact and faces only inches apart. He is super smiley when he does this.

-you always make him smile. It melts your heart every time.

-there are some hard times where either of you has nightmares, which leads to lots of holding and consoling.

-Percy can have anger issues at times especially when it comes to revenge.

-this is the only thing you guys fight about. While you both want all of them dead you are worried of the effects this will have on Percy and how far he is willing to go and how much he is willing to give. You definitely fear that his judgement is compromised at times like these and think that he himself or others might get hurt along the way.

-he tries to stop when he finds you crying in the corner of your room worried sick about him.

-his anger gets the better of him, but when he is reminded of you he cools down like 50%. If he sees you in one of these stages he will be much more careful too.

-after one of these episodes he definitely does not let go of you. He will hold your hand no matter what. He may even hold your one hand with both of his if you guys are walking or something.

Keyleth:

Opposites attract couple

-You met in a tavern

-In fact, it was your good friend Vax that introduced you to the group of mercenaries.

-You had already known Vex since she was Vax’s sister, but the rest of the crew were strangers.

-You quickly took a liking to them. Passing your free time drinking and betting in card games was one of your favorite ways to relax. 

-That first night you out drank them all and remained the only one not drunk. It was the fiery red-head that fell to the effects of the alcohol first. She was also the one you took care of the most that night.

-You helped her to bed, tucked her in, and even found yourself tucking a piece of her hair behind her cute pointy ear. You weren’t drunk, just definitely buzzed.

-She quickly realized she liked you, which is why the two of you became a couple so fast. That and Vax trusted you so she knew you were a good person.

-You were a bit slower when it came to coming to terms with your feelings. You always helped her out, complimented her, and protected her. 

-When she told you about her feelings you just kissed her. It was a small rushed peck, but it explained all she needed to know. You quickly and awkwardly excused yourself.

-Over time you become more comfortable in a relationship. You like to be affectionate with her when you're alone but you find it difficult in public. Around your friends you guys will hold hands, lean into one another, and have your guys arms wrapped around either shoulders or waists.

-She likes to give you little charms and pretty rocks and gems she finds.

-You like to gift her with stolen objects you took from merchants that were rude. So far the most expensive thing you’ve stolen and gifted her was a silver necklace with a very pretty moonstone charm. It’s her favorite and she never takes it off.

- She likes to fidget with your hands when she gets anxious, especially about her family. She finds it interesting how you can so easily steal, so she likes to observe the little things. For example, she enjoys tracing the scars on your hands you have gained from your time thieving and fighting. 

-You really like her hair, so she can sometimes catch you just staring at her. Sometimes when you guys are in public you even just mess with it in your fingers because you love how silky and bright it is.

-The entire crew is really happy for you guys, they like how much confidence you give Keyleth, and they like how soft you get around her.

-Vax and Vex can tell that you both make eachother better and stronger people and that you both are growing more into yourselves.

Grog:

Party couple/ adorably affectionate couple but not in an uncomfortable way

-You were quick friends that shared the same easy going attitude. You liked ale and parties and brawls. Grog liked those too.

-You both simply bask in each other’s happiness. You both feel warm and comfortable in the other's presence. 

-Ale, yes please, you will both compete to see who can drink more, your drunken selves becoming instantly more charismatic making you both the life of the party.

-Only nice things to say about each other. You both never fight. Unless you are play fighting, for example food fights, sneak tackles, and other various activities.

-Piggy back rides, most definitely. Especially during drinking games and other competitions. You on Grog’s back and Scanlan on Vax’s, the four of you barreling down the street in a race to see who would be the last one standing.

oh MAN do I

scanlan - she LOVES scanlan. honestly, absolutely adores him. it was just like, right away, he knew what to do and how to help her. she had a little crush on him if she’s being honest, but wont say shit about it. why? because when VM visits, he’ll sing to her, he’ll sit with her after she has nightmares, and he will, with her permission, lay in bed with her. he treats her just like he would anyone else - inappropriate, flirty jokes - and it makes her feel not as messed up

vax - one of the other members she crushed on. they're both rogues and spent time teaching each other their preferred fighting methods, so she bonded with him quick. she enjoys his company and *spoiler* misses him after his deal with the raven queen results in his death

vex - she really loves vex. vex ends up extremely protective of her, especially *spoiler* after she loses vax. she teaches her how to do her hair when it finally starts getting long.

percy - surprisingly... i think she has a lot of bad feelings towards him. because when she looks at it, he left her. he could have, should have come to check if she was alive. or even try to save her. but he just left her, bleeding out in the snow. it was severly traumatic and i think it makes her hate him a bit. further, she resents that he is constantly off galavanting with friends while shes stuck trying to revive whitestone.

keyleth - she has Many feelings about keyleth. mostly, at first, confusion and sort of fear. she wasnt comfortable waking up to see a stranger with antlers who, when she screamed in fear, immediately reacting by screaming back then hugging her. after thr dust settles, though, she is incredibly fond of her and harbors a crush for a while. I do wanna emphasize that Cassandra develops crushes very easily after years of unhealthy "affection" from the briarwoods and probably not as much affection as she needed with the de Rolos (she was one of, like, 7 kids and her parents obviously still had to run the city). once she sees keyleth give vex an excited hug and is like wow if keyleth did that to me I'd probably fall in love with her. rhen keyleth does and Cassandra's like by the Dawnfather this cannot be happening.

grog - besties, basically. they're training partners so Cassandra can practice combatting bigger targets and grog can practice combatting small/quick moving targets. also, after seeing a post about it, I hc Cassandra with dyslexia, so they bond quick over the struggle to read/write. Cassandra still has more trouble with it as running whitestone involves lots of paperwork, but being with him reminds her that shes not an idiot.

pike - probably spends the least amount of time with her tbh, sorry pike. she does like pike, she just doesnt exactly have any common ground with her to bond over. percy also probably tries to make cass tell someone (*cough* pike *cough*) about her trauma and she doesnt like doing anything like that.

trinket - best boy. best best best boy. she loves him so so so much. every now and then when vm is in whitestone (or post canon) she can be found snuggling with him and her cat as she talks through whatever problem she cant figure out.

Vax and Keyleth simply had more chemistry and a better foundation for a relationship than Gilmore, and Percy and Vex had SM more relationship building than Keyleth and her. It’s not homophobia or a conspiracy it’s literally just writing. Like I’m gay. I ship Vax and Gilmore and Vex and Keyleth-The canon relationships genuinely just make the most sense. A Bi m/f relationship is not homophobic. Bi people do not need to be in same gender relationships to be actually Gay/Bi nor do Bi characters need to be in same gender relationships to be Bi/good Bi rep. Bi m/f relationships IS good Bi rep. It is representative of tbh the majority of our community if we’re being honest.

I’m not going to speculate on Liam’s sexuality but iirc he has stated that dnd allowed him to explore his attraction to men-and given he’s married to a woman-it’s really not hard to figure out why perhaps he played Vax a certain way. That said I think it’s entirely inappropriate to claim he’s homophobic/uncomfortable with queerness after playing multiple Queer characters-Caleb having multiple explicit attractions and relationships with men (Essek for an obv ex).

Bi again means attraction to multiple genders-They’re literally writing them as explicitly and openly and ACTIVELY Bi again. Why does Bi only mean same gender to you? Why is Bi only good if it looks Gay?

Also it’s not “props” w/o showing? Multiple characters are actively Bi in the show?? Scanlan and Vax being the most visibly so so far-but more will come when we get closer to Allura ect like?? The vast majority of the characters are in some way lgbt+ my dude. They’re walking the walk. You just don’t like the road they’re walking

We are and always will be asking for better rep-what is deemed good rep is constantly changing. That can’t be and never will be set in stone. So it’s not really a fair criticism nor judgement when it’s such a issue of personal taste-that said. I think it’s good rep. The vast majority of lgbt+ fans think it’s good rep. The real question to self reflect on is why don’t you?

perc’ahlia + mutual pining + a dance at a whitestone festival?

To Percy, a festival almost seems inappropriate. Yes, the Briarwoods are defeated, but they still need to rebuild the city and figure out what to do about all the trade relationships the Briarwoods destroyed. A celebration seems premature. But the people of Whitestone are insistent. Which is how he finds himself sipping a mug of spiced wine, watching Scanlan herd together a group of musicians.

Off to the right he sees Keyleth druidcrafting some flowers for a group of children who all squeal in delight and beg for her to do it again, Vax looking on with a soft smile. Percy shakes his head and sips his wine, Vax is nothing but a fool in love.

"You sulking back here?" Vex asks, sidling up next to him. She bumps him with her hip.

Percy smiles a little bit and shakes his head, "Parties aren't really my thing, at least not this kind." He gestures towards where the musicians have started playing a lively tune, couple take to the makeshift dance floor below the Sun Tree's huge branches and start dancing.

"We used to have festivals like this all the time in Byroden," Vex tells him with a sad smile on her face. "Vax and I would try to sneak drinks of alcohol before our mother caught us. We used to dance too." She shakes her head, "Sorry, you probably don't want to hear about that."

Percy smiles at her fondly, he's never heard her talk about Byroden before. "Would you like to dance, Vex'ahlia?"

She gives him an odd look, "You just said you don't like these kind of parties."

He shrugs, "You do." And he extends a hand to her. "You'll have to lead though, because I really don't know how to do this kind of dance."

Vex grins, takes Percy's drink from him, downs it in one, and drags him towards the dancers. As they enter, cheers go up from the crowd, seeing the Lord of Whitestone joining in the festivities.

The music is fast, so much so that Percy finds himself with two left feet. Vex smiles at him and leans to his ear, "It's easier if you don't look at your feet." Percy blushes a bit and raises his eyes to meet Vex's. She winks at him.

The dance is lively and exciting and Percy finds himself enjoying it a considerable amount. Though it could just be the wine talking. Vex is a wonderful partner, she tugs him in the right direction and gives soft verbal cues for the more complicated parts and she makes it look like he's leading.

The dance ends far sooner than Percy would like and he finds himself chest to chest with Vex as the crowd bursts into applause for the musicians. Vex and Percy don't join them, just looking at each other, breathing heavily from the exertion. Percy finds his eyes drawn towards her lips, all he'd have to do to kiss her would be-

Vex squeezes his hand with a smile and steps back, turning and disappearing into the crowd. Percy exhales and runs a hand over his hair. He might be in trouble.

Your first date was less of a date and more of a mission that turned into a date. Vox Machina had been employed to shadow some noble possibly involved with some kind of possibly dangerous cult. You had to blend into high society and couldn’t simply rely on the shadows Vax felt most comfortable around. Even though he may have been raised among respectable society in Syngorn, high society like the one you had to blend into was more your specialty. You were their ticket to the circles they needed to meddle with. Dressed to the nines you were quite the sight to behold managing to take the poor man’s breath away, among others. Vax made it a point to entwine his arm with yours whenever he had the chance and stick to your side for the whole event. After you proved the noble you were sent to watch innocent you stayed to enjoy the part. Such an invitation shouldn’t go to waste after all… At least that’s what Vax claimed. You’re pretty sure he appreciated the time away from the others.

More lowkey invitations found their way to you from Vax. An invitation to take you on a walk around town, some fun out in a less restricted setting than the high society parties, dinner and dancing, and even a night under the stars, made its way to you. You were more than happy to accept. Just as promised each and every date was perfect in its own way purely because you got to spend more time together. 

You had to find out the hard way Vax had been making excuses to the rest of Vox Machina why he was going out or didn’t come back to the keep some nights. You understood but would have preferred a heads up so you could get your stories straight before you were caught by Grog and Pike one night in the tavern. It took a Modify Memory spell to make Grog think he only saw the two of you together in some kind of drunken stupor. Pike was a bit easier to persuade to keep your ‘thing’ a secret and knowing her well enough, the both of you trusted her to keep the secret until the two of you were ready to figure out where this ‘thing’ was going. 

Defining what you were to each other was easy. You had feelings for each other. Love even and you could see yourselves spending your days together, however long that may be. Vax has a tendency to get stuck in his own head when it comes to planning a distant future but you put no pressure on him. No need for talks of getting married, having children or even grandchildren. You take it day by day acknowledging that every relationship has his ups and downs but as long as you have each other’s backs through it all and are supportive of each other you’re more than satisfied with what you have going. You bring each other happiness. 

You’re each other’s support system knowing you can trust on one another when the world looks bleak and the odds hopeless. You acknowledge that yes sometimes space and time is what the other needs to process, but you’re never far and know how to read each other’s tells when you do need support, be that a heartfelt conversation, a reality check, or a shoulder to cry on. You’re there for each other no matter what. 

Vax would often come back from far travels with a little gift he brought back for you wherever he went. A beautiful feather from a bird, a jewelled necklace, an odd trinket would be presented to you upon his return. Each one with a meaning, and every single one of them as valuable as the next. They held a special place in your heart as much as in your home. 

The siege of Emon happened. It was a terrifying experience but you knew how to handle yourself. Capable and resilient, your magic helped you bring several people to safety. You lost Vox Machina in the fray but knew they could take care of themselves. You had others to protect and get out of the city before it was too late. Gathering who you could you made your way to Greyskull Keep. You got there when the gates opened, people flooding in.

Seeing Vax among the crowd trying to organise the crowd you were relieved he was alive and well. Rushing over he kissed you the moment he saw you, caught up in the moment not caring who saw. Your reunion was cut short by the arrival of an ancient white dragon. Vax initially dragged you along behind a tree but you come in hot and the moment the dragon comes within range hit it with a Disintegrate spell. Your next actions show Vax very clearly you know exactly how to handle yourself. Though, from the corner of your eye you can see him cringe when you do get slammed into a wall and to the ground. You avoided getting frozen and get back up into the fight.

The aftermath Vax looks you over to make sure you’re alright. It took a lot to assure him you were fine. Even after getting thrown into a wall slightly bloody and bruised, you’d live. He helped clean up the blood and got Pike to heal your heavier injuries. He spent as much time at your side as he could and after he deemed you well enough let you come with him and help carrying heavier things for the people seeking refuge at the Keep. He got quite worried you might be overexerting yourself which gave you a good glimpse into his protective side. 

After some dragon hunting and things eventually calmed down you finally had more time to spend together, going back to your usual habits. Slowly but surely the two of you found you were ready to fully let the other’s know about your relationship, though some may have had suspicions before. You didn’t necessarily tell them directly. It started with you showing up for your little ‘date night’ with Vax and neither of you sneaking around or making up excuses anymore. Gradually the others caught on to what this meant. You’d be staying over at their place more often and while the two of you had managed to avoid the awkward conversations for the longest of times 

Sitting at the breakfast table one morning, Vax sitting down next to you and pressing a kiss to your temple with an ‘I love you’ may just have been a little too much for some of them. 

Pike of course was happy for you that you finally felt secure enough to share this news and made a little comment that how as a cleric of Sarenrae she legally would be able to officiate a wedding, with an all too innocent smile. 

Keyleth was very happy for the both of you gushing how you made the perfect couple and asking you if you had noticed all the ‘annoying little things’ Vax does and what you thought of them. She bombarded you with questions about how your relationship stared, how romantic it was until you told her you would gladly tell her in moderation or you might just run out of your ability to speak.

Grog didn’t get what was going on until Vax spelled it out for him. Grog came to the realisation that the time you used Modify Memory on him, a spell that had since faded, wasn’t a drunken vision after all and really did happen. He told you you could entrust him with all secrets, is an expert ‘silencer’ (his words) and wouldn’t have to use magic to get him to keep quiet anymore. 

Percy congratulated the two of you on not conforming to the norms of society and actually having a healthy happy relationship not based on the merits of politics and encouraged you to no longer try and bribe the Castle Whitestone staff when sneaking around because they’ll tell him all your dirty little secrets no matter how much you offer them, all jokingly of course. 

Scanlan, oh, Scanlan. How the both of you wished the earth would swallow you whole. Scanlan was being typical Scanlan congratulating for you pulling the stick out of Vax’s ass and loosen him up a bit, complimenting the wonders you must have showed him and speculating the things you must have done to get Vax much more at ease, not without ludicrous and inappropriate innuendoes and hand motions. 

Vex, throughout all of that breakfast hadn’t said a single thing and instead stared at you coldly, arms crossed. When Vax asked her to stop regardless of her opinions towards you or your relationship with her brother you stepped in saying that whatever she felt was valid but that you had no intend on replacing her place in his heart nor getting between them. She’d remain at his side and you from now on would just be on the other side. After that, a death threat followed, telling you you better not break Vax’s heart or a broken heart would be the least of your worries. You made sure that would never be your intention and you really did love her brother as much as he loved you. This seemed to ease her up with it. Over time she grew more accepting towards you to the point where you could call her a close friend, sister even.

Hey anon, I agree with much of this and I hope you don't mind if I go on what might be one of my weirder tangents/theories but this has been percolating for a few weeks and I think I've cracked the secret to one of the more toxic segments of the fandom.

I definitely think that if Imogen were not a woman, a lot of people would hate her (granted, a different group of people who hate her now would probably like her more if she were a man, because misogyny is extremely extant outside of the bubble, and even a little bit within the bubble, that is Tumblr). However, they'd be fine if she looked like Fearne...but many wouldn't be fine if she were also played by Ashley. Or yeah, if she weren't easily shipped with Marisha's character.

Here's the deal. When I and a number of other people were like "oh hey! Imogen is not really taking other people's feelings into consideration and is being rather insensitive about the Ruby Vanguard, given that they've killed half the party, particularly since she's literally known Laudna like 10 times longer than she's know her mother was alive" the attitude was "wow, you hate Imogen, you hate women, you're so unfair" and yet now, at a table that is half women (and a group of characters that literally has only one man) everyone who thought I hate Imogen and how if she were a man everyone would care is now literally just mostly ignoring her (and honestly like, everything) and instead constantly whining about how they miss Laudna. Which is frankly weak as hell, like, anyone who's loved Pike or Yasha is like "oh you must be new here", and at least people talking about Travis being missing during the gap between Bertrand's death and Chetney's arrival were making good memes. But I digress.

My theory, which I do admit is the most tin-foil hat I think I've gone, comes from some polls I've seen circulating complaining about queerbaiting in past shows, and also my recent interest in Glee as ground zero of really horrible fandom behaviors (thanks to people who have provided insight into that!) Anyway. I recently learned that apparently Quinn and Rachel was a really popular ship, for reasons I cannot, for the sake of what little decorum and kindness I am maintaining here, speculate on. Setting aside that this is not queerbaiting and it's wildly inappropriate and damaging to say it was, given that this show was full of queer characters and Quinn was shown hooking up with a woman, this has in fact clicked into place for me why people constantly ship Marisha and Laura's characters despite chemistry that is inconsistent at best and tepid on average. It's not terribly hard to draw lines from Quinn to Vex and Rachel to Keyleth, especially if you consider how fanon tends to handle these archetypes. Then they transferred this to just Laura and Marisha's characters in general, and here we are, and man if it hasn't gotten even more flavorless with every transfer.

So anyway yeah a lot of people really don't like Imogen much as a character unless they can project onto her, but because she's half of The Ship, they also will not tolerate any exploration of her flaws that could threaten The Ship and so they need to remove her agency and blame it on various rocks instead of Imogen being cranky and impatient as a person (like, again, if you want to interpret her powers as chronic pain, why are you not allowed to grant her the same complexity as Ashton, who is also cranky and impulsive?) But really the kicker is that if Marisha isn't physically onscreen, they start acting like a cat you locked out of the bathroom and simultaneously forget they're supposed to care about or enjoy Imogen as an individual.

Thess vs TLoVM Ep. 7

Yeah, I’m going through these fairly slowly but I am SAVOURING THEM and also I do want to play video games and I’m not distracting myself from this gloriousness with video games no thank you.

Anders already makes me want to punch him in the face. And this is ... okay, we’ve seen him at the end of the last episode and let’s face it, his design is kind of surfaced-blobfish looking so he was designed to look really punchable but the voice as well. Well done, Stephen Root.

(That reminds me - need to watch The Book of Boba Fett. Root was in that, apparently.)

Wait. I know that voice-- did they get the same voice actor to do Lady de Rolo and Lady Briarwood? *checks* They did. That’s ... thematically brilliant.

The introduction of Orthax in this slow and steady drip-feed way is incredible and--

Oh FUCK OFF, Scanlan! ...Okay, the thing I like about this is that they really do have the characters down. I mean, I know everybody did the Scanlan Shorthalt Precious Cinnamon Roll Can Do No Wrong thing back in the day but Sam himself flagged up that part of his -2 Wisdom modifier was the fact that he had absolutely zero filter. He gets uncomfortable and breaks the mood the only way he knows how, and he probably knows on some level that it’s inappropriate (reasonably high INT, if I remember right) but he doesn’t care as long as the uncomfortable stops. He doesn’t like being alone with his own emotions or anyone else’s and Sam’s not saying it’s right or appropriate or a good thing to do; Scanlan just does it because it seems like a better idea than having to stew in emotions he doesn’t like. And since Travis and Sam co-wrote this one, it’s nice to see that his tendency to do that “jokes to clear the air” shit at the worst possible time and in the worst possible vein continues, because Sam intended it to be an in-depth character flaw, not just something funny to do during sessions. (So yes, thank you, Vex. Not the time. This is when I want Manners.)

Oh, poor Sun Tree! ...I’m not sure whether I want there to be the Matt Stoner Sun-Tree voice or not. On one level, I loved it. On another level, I’m not sure they could do it with the format. Sudden tonal shifts are not, as stated above, always the friend of a solid narrative.

Though that is a good question, Vax. And also Scanlan. And I bet Percy’s never been so grateful for a Keyleth-related problem in his life.

Poor worried Vex. I swear, Vox Machina was effectively the party of Complete Inability To Show Any Reasonable Emotion Without Somehow Being An Asshole About It. Ironically, I think the best one at that was Percy, who (while obviously having some Orthax-related issues) dropped all his defenses like hot rocks the moment Vex seemed even slightly upset.

...With very good reason, the worry for Scanlan. Though giving him the finger at that moment is impressive-- OH! Hello Scanlan’s Hand! Oh shit. Oh shit oh shit oh shit. I seem to remember this fight being slightly less involving whaling on Scanlan. Then again, we do need the drama.

Seriously, all you’re going to do with arrows is piss Grog off- yeah, see, there you go.

And the crotch lightning saves the day. And yes, see, Scanlan? THAT is where you save the jokes for. I wonder if he just treats most of his life as a dress rehearsal for those triumphant moments where the one-liners are appropriate. I mean, I guess he needs to get his material from somewhere.

Hey, you know how I said I knew about the Briarwood Arc? Turns out that was a freaking lie.

AN:  I managed to record my reactions to this episode and hopefully I can transcribe what I said into this post.

"I've been with the Briarwoods for years and I [Cassandra] know next to nothing about their motives." That sounds like a lie.

He's [Percy] like a kid at the doctor's.

I feel like this Percy already knows [about Orthax]. He already knows.

"As soon as this is over, I will sort it all out." No you will not.

It bugs me cus its like trump. Like u had this real asshole who only saw humans as pawns and was fascist, sexualized his daughter, tried to get the military to gun down protesters and people STILL resorted to calling him fat to insult him.

Like allegedly orion has scammed fans out of money and harrassed ppl on twitter among other things .

If u hate him (and prob should) hate him for that. Not ...fucking gaming wrong. Cus if u do u should hate travis for power gaming and ruining things cus he got bored with rp. Suddenly for no reason grog was a coward cus travis was low on hp (despite never asking keyleth or scan for healing) cus he went and reckless attacked in front of 8+ archers. He repeatedly tried to shut down rp multiple times cus he found it boring and just wanted to be a murder hobo.

Liam repeatedly tried to turn the game i to a 1 player game. Always going off on his own forcing the others to sit and do nothing while he got all the glory, meanwhile failing to remember once how both sneak attack and death attack worked(and its a LITTLE annoying how in social situations he just HAS to give the big speech and goes on "im going to leave and make the rest of the group come and find me" bouts of spotlight stealing)

And i saw someone talk about sexually harassing laura on stream so not remembering that i go try to see what i missed? Oh him making a joke about getting a woody from someone talking strategy. One of the least offensive sex jokes in the campaign. U realize the reason they had a troll dick was cus matt mercer descided that some trolls were going to rape his character, right?

But that doesnt matter because these were friends. At that point fans were just sitting in on someone elses dnd game they had with friends. Its extremely common for FRIENDS to be inappropriate with each other. Cus they are FRIENDS. Its fucked up for ppl woth a parasocial relationship with strangers to be so judgemental.

So anyways, if u want to talk about how O is an ass talk about the horrible things he did. If u want to hate his power gamey and selfish playstyle do so but remember than other cast would as well (how common was "ok im tired of talking about it my character is going to do something random and stupid cus bored) and if u want to hold the early stream accountable for unprofessionalism hold the ENTIRE table.

Course i dont think u should do that at all, cus like i said it didnt start being a show for a long time and was mostly just some nerds playing dnd with a camera and getting showered by fans who thought they were fans and gave them way to much free stuff
