ALEX allow me to start with introduce this gif to represent the two oddballs of the lapd-

( it’s suki….trying to resist the urge to fold paper, but hyuk is offering her the goodz and her fingers have a mind of their own, hyuk’s probably making some comment to point that she completely contradicting herself JFKSLDJFL )

it’s so important to me that hyuk comes into suki’s life exactly when he does because if he had arrived earlier when she’s in her scorched verse, she would have avoided him as she still had friends in the lapd she could turn to…and if he had arrived later, I don’t think he would have had nearly as big of an impact on the person she ends up becoming in her kintsugi verse. basically when hyuk transfers to the lapd, suki is in a rather vulnerable. she’s just gotten out of a depressive episode that was caused by discovering the truth behind her parents’ murder. Was basically in survival mode for more than a few months…lots of isolation ( no paper folding ) and thinking as she figures who she is and who she wants to be in the context of her workplace….by this time, she’s gotten through the worst of it and knows at the very least who she doesn’t want to be….so it’s really a matter then of figuring out what kind of person exactly she would want to become instead…which is why this is the best moment she could’ve met hyuk. In being in a rather vulnerable that also makes her the most open to suggestion and change…if kintsugi suki is a complilation of all the people who have in some way mentored her, I’d say she gets the sharp, no-nonsense attitude from hyuk 🥲

okay but now onto their actual dynamic- I know I said he technically mentored her but I would call him more of a role model rather than a mentor for her because mentor implies a certain unbalance between the mentor and the mentee and by this time in her timeline, suki is trying to meet her co-workers more as equals aka the way she refers to hyuk as detective lee rather than mister lee- that’s her trying to stand on equal ground. So role model, even if he is much older than her and I feel like half of the time in this verse, it’s probably suki following behind detective lee bc he’s tall and intimidating so if anyone tries to bully her as last resort, she’s hiding behind him 😂

I do think even if he is a grump and still pretty prickly ( but who is he not like that with save for a certain professor… ), she does consider him a friend!! For one thing, again, most of her friends have left the lapd or are in a different department which means she can’t see them all that often, but also suki is the right combination of oblivious and charming which means his demeanor isn’t going to scare her off…that and she’s more than used to handling prickly/interesting personalities. But also?? I love that despite being sourfaced, hyuk might actually be the only detective that’s like…doesn’t tease/bully her ( in good fun ) JFKSLDJF I was actually under the assumption he might be short with her the way he is with certain other individuals in his life but really the most he seems to get with her is exasperated esp when she folds his paperwork 😂 and even then he becomes resigned to it….he learned well- she did not adapt to the lapd, the lapd adapted to her JKFLSJDFLKSJ

But also!! Because she’s only person hyuk talks to and at the very least tolerates, I feel like the rest of the department unofficial assigned her as hyuk’s damage control…which she is VERY INEFFECTIVE in being considering that a. she’s not a certain professor but also b. can you imagine her trying to hold him back?? he’d probably be able to charge full speed ahead with her hanging on sjdfklsjd 😂

In terms of how hyuk is a role model to her, it’s mostly because they both have an obsession with getting to nothing more and nothing less than the trust and since the lapd and the justice system in la is starting to get increasingly corrupt, at least before she met hyuk, she was starting to get disheartened thinking that she was the only one was interested in the truth. so finding a comrade in hyuk was a godsend, even if he picks fights on the daily and she ends up being the one more or less responsible for holding him back. he also again, is a much needed friend/comrade in this time for her since she was dealing with a fair amount of bullying for differing opinions on how to handle cases aka bribery from both the prosecution and the defense ( although why do I picture if someone were to set her desk on fire, hyuk doing this gif set 🥲)….and so even after he returns to the gangnam police station, I imagine their friendship/partnership remains in tact. It’s like they say… friends who struggle together stay together 🥲

Okay!! So I’ve decided suki would be in her cinders verse for this verse considering that a. it gives suki reason to be in closer proximity to where the main story is and b. hyuk needs friends/people who are going to bug him to take better care of himself so catch suki teaming up with jaehwan more or less to get him to eat…get some sunlight, and take a nap once in a blue moon!! But also, I do think part of the reason hyuk might be more willing to let her stick around is bc?? She would understand what it’s like to need to hold onto a case that’s went unsolved for years on end…lmao that was her for like almost ten years when it came to her parents’ murder case….so while she might not realize how the deep the bond between hyuk and Patrick actually is, she would understand hyuk’s need to get to the bottom of his best friend’s death, would understand how not having that sense of closure is low key killing him 🥲

But also!! as to how she got pulled into this case aka flew over to seoul and ended up staying there for the long run!! I imagine she probably wouldn’t have heard about hyuk’s resignation considering that they are an ocean apart…and by the time she’s resigned from the lapd, hyuk’s already stuck in his personal ruins and probably wouldn’t be thinking to let her know that. So when he reaches out, I imagine she’s assuming he’s still with the Gangnam police station and only decides to help out bc well, he’s a friend and someone she knows would be using her services to get to the truth….imagine her surprise when she sees his tiny af office and shitty lock on his door 😂

As for her staying in seoul for the long run- I feel like hyuk could use her services in the long run too considering that with the black knight ( I’m still developing this but- ), a big part of alfred and nell’s job is making sure the vigilante’s footsteps are well covered aka tamper with crime scenes to throw the police off via messing with ctv cameras ( nell’s job ), but also contaminating dna evidence via injecting another set of blood into the sample ( this is all alfred’s specialty ), so if there’s anyone who can help hyuk see through the tampering, suki would be extra useful there….

OH MY GOSH! I love your new a/b/o au! I read it on ao3. Remrom might not be comfortable to me, BUT. THIS. STORY. IS. DEFINITELY. WORTH. IT. I'm already liking the dynamic Roman and Virgil have. Omega!Roman? Hell yes. Deceit not exactly good but not exactly bad HECKING GOODZ FAM. The Father is a huge dick? WHAT A START. All in all such a good 1st chapter! I'll be def stalking it now haha. If I may ask, would Patton and Logan's role in this story important? And Emile's and Remy as well?

I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!! I was super worried that it wasn’t going to do well as it’s my first ever Alpha/Beta/Omega fic but the story I came up with was taunting me so I couldn’t not write it! The remrom is an odd thing because I technically had to tag it that although it’s an assault, not a relationship—and very temporary if Virgil gets his way! But I’m really glad it doesn’t ruin the fic for you!

To answer your question about Logan/Patton and Emile/Remy YES they will be key players! Chapter two will be entirely about Logan and Patton. Logan is a silversmith and Patton is a blacksmith, so we’ll get a look at life outside of the castle. Remy and Emile will show a bit later but have *huge* parts to play!

“I honestly don’t mind too much of Chloe being a bully. Yeah, she would still be of course a bully, but at least that would just be her character. She would be the kind of character that you would LOVE to hate. However, the writers showed us time and time again that she can be “better”, that she has own problems, that she feels bad about her actions (Maledictator, Zombizou), all so we can have some kind of sympathy for her. But…she never changes nor gets any lasting development.” 

People always say that redemption takes time, but the series doesn’t show us that she’s actually improving, not even a little. She’s still treating her only female friend like a slave, still treats people around her like dirt, caused plenty of akumas, constantly gets akumatised herself for stupid reasons (and WILL get akumatised again in the future), AND while all of this is happening, she still gets to be Queen Bee and everyone knows this! However, no one is allowed to call her out because “BAWWWHHH she has a bad mother”, “BUT SHE'Z A CHILD” or even “BUT SHE’S A HERO NOW, SO SHE MUST BE GOODZ”? This show and it’s fandom is crazy, I swear. They love to crap on our main heroine for stupid/crazy reasons all the time, but then love Chloe despite the way she treats/talks about people when she’s not all that great herself. “Once a villain, always a villain” you say? As much as she looks in the mirror at herself, I’m surprised she hasn’t figured it out yet -__- 

Chloe being a bully wouldn’t of bothered me so much if the writers didn’t keep assisting that she’s not as bad as people make her out to be AND keeps giving her a miraculous despite being a bully. You don’t give someone a important item/a responsibility like that, hoping they will change. They have to EARN IT. Chloe’s problem was NEVER that she was “useless”, her problem is that she’s a terrible person that needs to change.

WAAROM IK LIEVER ANALOOG FOTOGRAFEER EN WERK MAAK

Een tijdje terug was ik in het Poortgebouw. Mijn beste vriend woont daar en op donderdag kun je daar voor een paar euro goed eten. Terwijl ik hielp met de drankverkoop, raakte ik aan de praat met een Chileense man, zijn naam ben ik vergeten. Vanwege mijn Peruaanse afkomst sprak ik hem aan, met de uitdaging om het gesprek in het Spaans te voeren. Deels omdat hij matig Engels en vrijwel geen Nederlands sprak, maar vooral omdat ik te weinig mijn best doe om mijn moeders taal op peil te houden (andere vorm?).

Hij was documentairemaker, ik beeldende kunst student, de gesprekken gingen al snel over perspectief en het vastleggen van momenten. We hadden het over Martín Chambi, een van de eerste inheems latijn-amerikaanse fotografen, en zijn bijzondere foto’s. De belangrijkheid van zijn rol binnen een wereld waar het narratief meestal uit een westers oogpunt wordt weergeven. En vanuit deze uitwisseling ontstond er een begrip voor mijn intuïtieve drang om zoveel mogelijk analoog te fotograferen (en te creëren), die mij een beetje sprakeloos achterlieten.

Het vastleggen van momenten is het het vastpakken van iets dat fysiek ongrijpbaar is. Het is het vasthouden van iets wat passeert en het zo uit te rekken en een plek in de toekomst te geven. WHY I SHOOT FILM AND RATHER WORK ANALOGOUSLY 

Some time ago I was at Poortgebouw. One of my best friends lives there and on thursday you are able to eat a decent meal for a few euros. While I was helping out with selling some drinks, I started a conversation with a Chilean guy, I forgot his name. Due to my Peruvian background I approached him, with the challenge to have a conversation in Spanish. Partly because his English was just reasonable and he spoke little to nothing Dutch, but mostly because I came aware that I put to little effort in speaking my mother’s native language.

He was a documentary filmmaker, I a visual art student, naturally the subject diverted to perspective and the capturing of moments. We talked about Martín Chambi, one of the first indigenous latin american photographers, and his particular images. About his importance of his role within a world where narratives are mostly formed from a western point of perspective. And throughout this exchange grew a self-understanding of the intuitive push to mostly shoot film and work analogously, which left me a bit dazed.  

Capturing moments is to grasp something that is physically intangible. It is holding onto something what passes by and by doing this: extending it and giving it a place in the future. The captured instant, especially when this is analogue, is extended to the fullest with utter care and attention by waiting, developing, editing, pressing, hanging up, sharing, etc.

“But you have watched a match, haven’t you?”

“Yes!”

“It is like the moment that one of the players scores by hitting the ball backwards in the air. At that moment you have to remember what is going on behind your back - the past, what is going to happen when you touch it - the future, and at the exact right split moment, hit the ball - the present. It is in that precise coming together of these three, that make the goal possible. Just like when you make a picture, without that balance the picture will be nothing.”

It is the creation of the coming together of past, future and present in one and trying to experience that for as long as possible.

“I am jealous that you can do that, capturing moments. I wanted to become a photographer, but I found out I wasn’t good at it. That’s why I started filming.”

Not Vibing + Nostalgia | Doing the Write Thing #47

Dudes. My writing life has just been so weird lately.

I’m not really vibing with this book right now. I don't know why. Kind of a bummer, but it happens. That’s okay. The important part is, I’ve been writing. Though to put it out there, I’m in an editing + outlining mood. Not a drafting mood. Does anyone else feel that way too sometimes? I mean, editing and outlining are still SO important, but for some reason, my stubborn brain refuses to believe I’m being productive if I’m not writing. Even if I’m outlining a million chapters a day, I still can’t feel content with my productivity. It’s weird. But yeah, anyway. Not vibing with you, FOSTERED #5. Not vibing.

Don’t know if I’m going to have much time to vibe beyond today and tomorrow because GUESS WHO’S DRIVING FROM TORONTO TO PENNSYLVANIA THURSDAY TO SEE PRECIOUS KID.

Like I mentioned one of my ALL TIME favourite bands (right behind The Strokes, like SO close behind The Strokes sort of) Daughter, is releasing a new album on September 1st. I about died. I talked to @sssoto​ about this after noticing they posted an ominous uncaptioned photo yesterday, and I can’t believe it actually happened.

It’s actually a score to the new Life Is Strange video game, but GUYS. Daughter just released their second album at the very start of 2016, and I don't think anyone was expecting them to release something so huge so soon. I’ve been screaming all day because of this news if you know what I mean. ;)

They released one of the songs off the album today called Burn It Down, and I’m just going to leave it here because I'm afraid I’ll just type in all caps like OMG GUYZ ITS SO GOODZ so to avoid embarrassing myself:

The lyrics are absolutely amazing. I adore everything Daughter because Elena writes every lyric with such care and has such amazing word choice. Honestly look at me being a writer commenting on word choice in lyrics. ;) I can’t help it. She’s honestly an amazing lyricist.

So I got a little carried away there. Daughter is greatness.

So Surf Curse released their second album Nothing Yet this year. I’m a chronological music listener, so if I like a band, I have to like them A LOT because I buy every album and listen to them in order. I’m not a single song listener. Like, there are so many single songs I love from other bands but I’m such an awful music listener, I won’t listen to them until I fall in love. Basically, any band I listen to is a favourite band.

(I’m so sorry, I’d love music recs though if you have any. I genuinely do love when people do that. :) I apologize for my weird music habits though. Genuinely don't know what’s up with that, lol.)

My point was, I finally got Nothing Yet. My sister, best friend and I (with my brotherz cuz lol) are going to see them, and obviously they’re going to play songs from this album. I’ll admit, this album doesn't have the classic ‘Surf Curse’ sound, but I’m so down for Nothing Yet.

Nothing Yet is a lot more indie than punk but aaaaahahhahaha guess who’s living for it.

Favourite songs so far (I’ve only listened to it once full through since I just got it but): Falling Apart, All Is Lost, Nostalgia, Sleeping, and Christine F.

This isn’t related at all to my writing session tonight but.

Things to know: I’m not having as much fun as I should be? I’m writing a Lonan Clark Interrogation Scene (TM) [they’ve happened so many times because this boy is such a savage at this point they’re like recurring episodes looooool], but eh. Content is fine, but I’m not vibing. You catch my drift? Did I just say catch my drift.

So that’s it for the writing update! That’s actually not it though! So before I really started blogging, a few really special people in my life did some really amazingly sweet things for the FOSTERED books (+ I’M DISAPPOINTED), and I wanted to stroll down memory lane and talk about it.

EDIT: So I just took 3 hours to find all of these images. I had to scroll through my Instagram which has over 2000 photos on it... Like sometimes I wish I could go back and tell my 12 year old self that literally no one cares but alas. I’ve blurred all handles etc out because my (and everyone else mentioned here) Instagram is private, sooo that’s exclusive to friends and family.

I talked to her about this recently, and apparently she still gets mad over this. Oh boy.
