-he looked at you shocked, but also confused. were you laughing at him, or the actual joke?

-he smiled like a kindergartener who got candy for halloween from the grumpy neighbor.

and YEAH i remember thats like how we started really talking!! i literally spent like 20 minutes writing out this longass thing about my picks for these and then tumblr mobile DELETED IT 😭 so im gonna summarize!!

1. THE SHINING MY BELOVED- im a careeer hotel worker who got their start in a historic haunted hotel in colorado, six hours south from the stanley hotel as a matter of fact! and im still passionnate about and working in the industry seven-ish years later! i feel like the shining really captures the magic and mysticism that hotels have as liminal spaces and (i believe) as places where the barrier is thinner. having been doing this for this long, i can tell you that you wil sometimes just See Shit or have a room that has a weird story that everybody avoids because it feels bad, thats just part of it

2. and 3. are for the same reasons!! its two of his longest, under the dome and the stand. in both of them i fell in love with the huge cast of relatable or interesting characters with realistic and varied motivations, and the fact that the stories themselves have the supernatural element as a driving force but the story is primarily character driven! LOVE that shit give me a whole town of people to fall in love with and give each of them at least five chapters and im NOT kidding. ALSO THE VILLIANS!!!!!! james rennie is one of my fav villians of any media fr i just love that in a town thats being held hostage by unspeakable horrors beyond our comprehension the true evil is a southern baptist!!!!and, are you listening, lean in close now........ i would let randall flagg crucify me. i would let him drain my sanity and send me to wander in the desert. i would even follow his sobriety rule. just one chance sir please i have so many kinky ideas for your freaky psychic powers pleasepleasepleaseplease

while your nails are drying, he holds your hand in his own, gently blowing on the wet paint while his other hand moves down to rub at your clit. but the moment he feels you try and grind against him, hips bucking slightly, he's already moving his hand away. pretends to focus on your nails again, humming out and saying "look, now we match" with a gentle smile on his face before planting a kiss to your cheek.

think right after is when he decides to get his dailies, saying something about how "forgot to get them before, but i can't mess up my streak or else i won't get the bonuses" wraps his arms around your waist, pulls you flush against him and you feel the slight shift inside you. doesn't comment on it, just laughs at your little reactions. lets you bury your face into the crook of his neck, his chin resting on your shoulder as he plays.

occasionally, bucks up into you but never sets a proper pace or rhythm, relishing the way it catches you off guard and makes you squirm. but he will gently reprimand you for squirming about, telling you "ah, you're distracting me from this boss... if i lose, it's your fault, okay?" even then, plants kisses to your neck and nips here and there, knowing it'll get a reaction out of you and you won't be able to hold still like he told you to, playfully blaming you anytime he messes up or losses his focus. but it's fine if you're the cause of his losses, he'll just keep playing while you're sitting on his cock until he does win. and maybe, he'll fuck you properly or he'll let you ride him, he needs a reward for completing such a hard level with a distraction like you, doesn't he?

actually I don't mean to break the thread but mumbling about yatagarasu again. spoilers and discussions of historical trans fiction under the cut.

so as I said, most people seem to be like... okay with the fact that Hamayu is almost definitely trans. the exceptions are people being like "is it a trans narrative or is it just that she pretended to be a boy as a kid" and I get the caution to declare it as the former, I do, but I also struggle to see why the latter would even be reasonable for the story.

the argument people keep using is that she's referred to as a daughter by the court and calls herself the daughter of her parents and what not. and it's like... well of course she does. why would she refer to herself as their son when she's not? and of course they call her that. most people don't know anything about her and her past, which is part of the point. she was literally sent into the courting thing to assassinate the prince. it's not like her court ever expected her to have kids with him lmaooo nor would it make sense for them to misgender her when they want her to be seen as a viable option for marriage to facilitate the murder. I doubt they respect her gender or anything but still

if she was really just crossdressing, her oddly not mentioning that part when unveiling all of her other secrets to the ladies when she's found out as an assassin as well as the delineation her childhood friend the prince makes between her childhood self when calling out their connection and her new name when asking her to marry him AND the fact that he frames concubines as an insult to one woman but a necessity for their marriage just wouldn't make sense. the end reveal wouldn't make sense. I cannot confirm either that there's a trans man in the novels who works for the prince's dad, but someone said that and if they are telling the truth, it's not like... out of the blue for trans rep in the text to exist

anyways my most hilarious reasoning is that she didn't have her signature eyelashes (like all the other women and girls) until she became an adult
