So, in Brazilian environmental justice, the Bolsonaro administration has flexibilized regulations for fracking in a new edict, conceding to requests from oil companies.
Tumblr media
A draft edict submitted for public consultation between March and April of this year on the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) website requeired a minimum distance of 1,500 meters between the well drilled for fracking and aquifers that could be used domestically or industrially, and that the wells where the hydraulic fracturing would be carried out be at least 500 meters away from any inhabited building.
In the public consultation, the Brazilian Association of Independent Oil and Gas Producers (Abpip) and the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP) opposed the first point, and Abpip opposed the second.
In the end, both requirements ended up suppressed from the current Transparent Well project prepared by the MME, the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), Energy research company (EPE), and the Investment Partnership Program (PPI), linked to the Ministry of Economy. The document only establishes that projects are not accepted “when there are technical studies that demonstrate that the execution of hydraulic fracturing will affect the base of an aquifer that can be used domestically or industrially”.
Ilan Zugman, director for Latin America at the organization 350.org, considers that the document is overly simplified and imposes few restrictions on a “dangerous and harmful” technique such as fracking, which he classifies as “reckless”. “The removal of these prerequisites made the process even easier for companies”, says Zugman. “Of course, it will be studied on a case-by-case basis, but it is absurd that there are no greater restrictions. On the contrary, they tore down restrictions that were already very fragile.” 350.org is one of the 16 civil society organizations that, in a note released on Friday (9), criticized the public notice and asked for its “immediate revocation” to president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers' Party - PT), vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (Brazilian Socialist Party - PSB), the coordinator of the transition team's Environment working group, senator Jorge Viana (PT), and also rapporteur Pedro Ivo Batista. The signatories of the text point out that the Transparent Well represents “imminent risk of irreversible damage to the entire Brazilian society and to the global climate”, since the unconventional oil and gas obtained via fracking are fossil fuels, whose burning produces greenhouse gases (responsible for global warming). Furthermore, fracking is associated with earth tremors and contamination of aquifers.
From now on, according to the announcement, companies that want to frack unconventional wells in blocks or fields under their concession will be able to submit proposals, which must be analyzed by the MME within 90 days. Projects may be submitted for two years, until December 7, 2024. The selected proposals will have incentives, such as a reduction in the payment of royalties by producing companies to state entities. The law determines that financial compensation be paid in an amount corresponding to 10% of oil or natural gas production, with the provision that the ANP may reduce the amount to 5% in specific cases.

We did Bernoulli in the beginning and LaPlace at the end. I don’t mind LaPlace until you have to do partial fractions bc that technique can suck my entire dick😂 One of the questions ended up with an integral of x^3*cosx, and that was a BITCH. Had to do three different u-subs with ibp on each. like gd let me breathe 😭
In my class, there were twelve of us, two of us were girls, and the other girl was online (so was one guy), so I was the only female in a room of nine dudes. And of course they were all engineers 🙄 it seemed like I was constantly fighting to be good enough, and after being shut down or talked over by them so much, I just kept my mouth shut the rest of the term. Like I’m not asking y’all for special treatment because I’m a woman, I would just like to not be treated like I’m inferior!! Doesn’t help that I’m a Former Gifted Kid™ 😂
The part time position at the other lab has benefits! And they’re actually pretty good. I also kinda want to keep one foot in my current lab, because we have PERS (idk if you’ve heard of that) and the new one doesn’t. It’s basically just a retirement fund, but it’s only offered to government agencies, and you get to retire at 60-65 (don’t remember what it is for schools) or 30 years, whichever comes first. And employers match 6%! Since I started there fairly young, I’d be able to retire at 52😂 which would be fucking NICE!!! And don’t apologize for going mom! I’m the same way😂
-👩🏻‍🔬
Bro you're scaring me so much I'm not sure I can teach AP Calc after reading all those words 😭 It's a small group of kids and I already warned them that it's been a while and we'll be learning together. But I'm VERY passionate about Calculus so I will learn as we go.
I wish I could tell you when I could retire. I hope it's tomorrow 💀 I'm not vibing with this school year right now. To get my retirement maximum $ I think I have to teach until I'm dead (or 64, unclear?) but I hit 30 years at 51 so it's SO dumb. Idk. If you asked me if I was going to make it another 35 years in addition to my CURRENT 8 YEARS idk if I'll manage. 🙃
Anyway.
IBP will need to be reviewed but that seems like a February problem. Partial fractions absolutely sent me. I remember but DON'T remember. I'm so fucked 😭😭
I'm really happy for you and I know you've mentioned the gifted kid burnout before. I'm rooting for you and I think you're pretty successful even if you're a little burnt out 💕
xoxo

Run-down of 2024 so far. . .
Gosh, where does one begin with 7 months worth of 2024? Of course this will be a mess of a post kasi ganyan talaga. I think hindi din ako nagpopost kasi masyado na madami dapat ko sabihin tapos tinatamad ako as usual.
Anyway, let's start with the first month of 2024. January 2024 was one for the books. My sisters and I went back to Japan, and, Kaye, Gian, and Dhey also went there! Hindi kami sabay-sabay and may iba talaga sila pupuntahan so hindi kami magkakasama everyday pero nagkita kaming lahat pagkalapag namin sa Japan (nauna kasi sila) tapos nagkita din kami ni Dhey bago siya umuwi ng Pinas.
It was so fucking surreal na andun kami sa pangarap naming lugar. Na naglibot kami sa Japan. Na we're breathing the same cold air, looking at the same beautiful Skytree light. Naluluha ako every time naaalala ko na nangyari ito. Na hindi namin expect na mangyayari ito this soon. It's so nice.
With that January update, meron pang isang major update. Dad's secretary suffered a stroke. He survived but he's still isn't okay mentally up to now. So nangyari, ako yung nandito sa office ngayon. Days or a week before kami pupuntang Japan nangyari yun so I spent the days before going to Japan na nasa office nagttrabaho. Pagkauwi namin, ayun, ako na yung nandito sa office hanggang ngayon.
I don't remember much sa February except that ayun, first full month ko sa office working.
March, merong IBP Convention na inattendan ko and Oni. During that time, we had talks of getting back together. By the end of March, we got back together. I may or may not elaborate on this or post stuff about our relationship. Depende sa kasipagan ko magtype lols.
Ano pa ba? Since I started working here, it's been a mess sa bahay. Nakakainis kasi hindi naman ako compensated dito, tapos nakakastress. I don't really want to blog about it pero I know it's relevant somehow sa updates hahahaha.
This July nag-aattend kami ng MCLE ni Oni kasi deadline na for the compliance next year. Online pa rin siya though.
Hmm ano pa ba? What inspired me to blog? HAHAHA. Hindi ko maalala kung may topic ba talaga ako na dapat itype.
I'm currently at work kasi and so far lahat ng pending work ko tapos ko na.
Oh wait, we have a new house pala. Since last year pinapagawa pero hindi kami aware. Nasabi lang samin bandang 3rd week of April. Ayun, hindi pa siya maayos and malinis pero tapos na siya. Ako pa lang yung laging natutulog doon because I need my peace. Lol.
Anyway tinatamad na ako sa susunod na lang ulit.

Oo oo oo!! Which calc?? Or like… ALL of the differential, integral, vector, etc? I hated vector unfortunately. I thought I’d love it bc, ya know…physics is my thing😂 but then we got into triple integrals and changing the variables of them, and I did not feel very hypnotic fully fresh anymore. I think derivatives were my favorite, but in integral, I figured out I could do IBP in my head 💀 so that was fun☺️
Also, I think I told you I decided to retake diff eq this summer(?) bc my instructor last year decided to hate me, but this term I got a 92 on my first exam and a 98.5 on my second one😭 We have two more exams before the term is out, so hopefully those go okay. like??? Fair grading goes so far! My instructor last year, if I lost a sign or fucked up a constant, they would take points off for every step after. I remember one problem I did that on like, step two, and it was graded a 1/15. Hello?? All my work is correct, I just made a tiny algebraic error, so what is this for😭 This instructor tho, they just write like “-.25” for that one part and call it good😂 BC I KNOW THE CONCEPTS!!!! I JUST CAN’T ADD FOUR AND SEVEN ANYMORE!! Got to far into math and now I have to check on my calculator three separate times that five and five is indeed ten 🤣 you think after four calcs, linear algebra, stats, diff eq, and a year of calc based physics that I can do simple arithmetic?? Absolutely not lmao
I’ve been looking for a new job because my current lab position doesn’t receive benefits, and where I live, you can only stay on your parents insurance until you’re 26. And I’ll be that old on the 26th😂 I have too many health issues to NOT have insurance.
I applied for a position at another lab, and they emailed me yesterday for the next step! It sucks that I have to leave my current lab since I’ve been there for over five and a half years, and I LOVE what I do, but there’s also been a lot of shit going down so it’s probably for the best lmao
-👩🏻‍🔬
Honestly, haven't even looked at the curriculum. I'm pretty sure it's Calc I for most college level courses. I actually took AP Calc ages ago and I remember we covered derivatives, limits, implicit differentiation (MY FAVORITE 😍😍), some integrals, optimization maybe? I forget. I'm pretty nervous about teaching it so I really SHOULD start looking at it, but I'm on fumes of remembering how much I LOVED it when I took it and I'm just so excited. IBP is actually terrifying to me. Idk if I could do that I really need to study 🤭
LOVE that for you! I knew you would do well! I'm happy to report that as a teacher I'm a very fair grader the way you described. If you mess up a sign anywhere on the problem I take at most 1 point away. (Algebra doesn't have like 15 steps for me to take away additional points). I want them to know the process more than the little arithmetic (but also they get a calculator that they REFUSE to use when I offer it so I like to take points off for that too). So 3/4 for an otherwise flawless problem is what I do.
I'M THE SAME WAY. All my friends ask me to split checks and do the tip when we go out to eat and I'm like "lol, give me a piece of paper be, I can't subtract anymore."
I hope you get the new job! Benefits are so important. Your golden birthday! How lovely! Do you have any fun plans? I'm going to do my best to remember but that's around when I go back to work!
Thanks for checking in! I hope you're having a great week! 💕
xoxo
