Long time listener, first time caller :P
Where/how I look up words:
thai-language.com and thai2english, as previously mentioned by OP
Longdo Dictionary (language can be set to English in the top right)
if you can already read Thai, I highly recommend Wiktionary in Thai
Papago - it's a translation app and site but I mostly use the app version and mostly for its speech-to-text feature, sometimes to check my own pronunciation, sometimes to try to catch words I can't quite make out in spoken content. The app also has several other features but do keep in mind that it's still a machine translation service and also built around Korean first and foremost!
I also like to just put the expression or word I'm trying to find out more about into a search engine to find a definition in Thai or get a feel for its usage. I'm often searching for viral slang, colloquial expressions or specific references though so I mostly end up reading forum posts on pantip (here's one where I was searching for ลูกสาวกำนันจอมแก่น originally), following in the footsteps of another lost soul on twitter to read the replies and qrts or suddenly finding myself watching tiktoks referencing specific memes lol
If you're into reading:
mebmarket and the meb app (app/site language can be set to English) - there's tons of different genres and almost always free samples to download if you'd prefer to just dip your toes in first, plus there's a category for free e-books as well! Available on various platforms (I have it on Android and Windows, for example), signup is free. E-books can be downloaded in the app as .pdf or .epub, the latter of which allows you to adjust the font too.
thai-language.com has a lessons section with a lot of reading exercises (completely free ofc) on various topics. It includes a full translation, lets you toggle the transcriptions, you can click through to specific lines to get a word-by-word breakdown, and some of them even include audio recordings.
if you're into T-Pop or Thai music like me, I recommend finding and reading the lyrics to your favorite songs~
re: Stu Jay Raj I've only seen a handful of his videos myself but there's this website he's been working on, Cracking Language Fundamentals, with a bunch of interesting tools to study and peruse fonts, tones, consonants, vowels etc. (not even just in Thai) that I've barely begun to fiddle with myself tbh. As OP said, if you're linguistically inclined or have prior knowledge in phonetics or phonology, you'll likely enjoy this approach.
Free Thai language learning resources
I’ve been learning Thai for the past 20 months. This list is by no means complete or comprehensive, what works for me doesn’t have to work for you, etc etc. That said: I’ve used most of these and found them useful, I thought you might, too. Have fun!
Youtube channels with free video lessons:
There are tons of wonderful teachers on youtube; this is by no means an exhaustive list. The three channels listed here are comprehensive, long-running, and updated regularly; if you have other favourites, please reblog and append!
Comprehensible Thai is a channel that teaches Thai in Thai, from zero, via the comprehensible input method. They have videos from total beginner through upper intermediate/lower advanced levels available.
Learn Thai with Mod – Mod runs a language school that offers good, structured group classes; she and her co-teachers often upload short videos about specific aspects of Thai. The channel has been around for a long time and they cover a lot of topics, including grammar points.
Thai Lessons by New (Learn Thai one Word one Sentence) – lots of good vocabulary and situational phrases
Other channels I like:
Advanced Thai with Kruu Momm – one of my favourites, Momm’s a star. Not included in the upper list only because this is definitely more of an intermediate-advanced resource.
Thai with Grace – I knew of Grace via her polyglot channel and travel vlogs before I realised she also teaches Thai. Fun stuff.
Kat talks Thai – I believe Kat is more active on instagram (@kattalksthai), but these are still really neat.
Perth Nakhun’s Basic Thai playlist
Honourable mentions because they’re interesting and can be nice supplements (yes, the video titles on these channels tend to be clickbaity, the content is useful, though):
Stu Jay Raj: Stu is a polyglot based in Thailand. His channel is a bit of a mixed bag, but he has a very interesting approach to languages and sometimes does foreign accent reduction / accent analysis sessions on his channel (with consent and participation of those whose speech he dissects).
Thai Talk with Paddy: Paddy is an Australian who learned Thai when he was a volunteer in Thailand, he’s kept it up. Fun things about language learning and culture
Listening comprehension
I’m assuming many folks on here who are interested in Thai already watch some Thai shows (yes I’m stereotyping but also this is tumblr), which means you’re spending time listening to Thai.
If you’re not:
Netflix, Youtube, WeTV, and Viki all have several Thai shows with English subtitles available. The Youtube channel of Thai broadcasting giant GMMTV has English subtitles on nearly all of their uploaded series, some series are also subtitled in languages other than English. one31 is another huge channel; they have English subtitles on some series and some series also have subtitles in Thai. There’s tons more – find a rec list and a Thai show that sounds like you’d enjoy it, chances are you’ll be able to watch it for free, legally, on youtube. You can use the youtube controls (or the ones on netflix) to turn the speed down to 75% —this can make it a lot easier to catch what’s being said. 50% gets so draggy that I personally find it almost harder to understand, but ymmv—give it a shot!
https://lingopolo.org/thai/ has real-life recordings for listening practice; sign-up is required but it’s literally just an e-mail-address, user name and password. Using the site is free.
https://www.activethai.com/ has a section dedicated to learning the tones (under “Overview of Thai Tones”) including a self-test for listening that I found very useful.
Learning to read
I will always, always, ALWAYS recommend learning to read the Thai script. All available romanisations for Thai have drawbacks, and besides, you learned to read English with its “though through thorough tough thought”, you can damn well learn to read Thai. I promise it will help you improve your pronunciation (yes, really) and overall understanding of how the language works.
Learn-to-Read-Thai resources that seem comprehensive and like they should do everything in one:
Anki decks “Read Thai PHASE 1 - The Consonants“, “Read Thai PHASE 2 - Thai Vowels“, “Read Thai PHASE 3 - Consonant Classes” and “Read Thai PHASE 4 - Tone Rules” by Khruu Gaan (ครูกานต์). Anki is probably the most powerful spaced repetition software I have ever used. It’s free on all desktops and android. These decks have sound.
Memrise course “Read Thai: A Complete Guide to Reading Thai“
Other resources I used (In hindsight, I feel like I should’ve picked one resource to learn to read from and stuck with it; I think I was rushing and made things more complicated than need be for myself with my hodgepodge mix-and-match approach. But hey, I can read now.)
https://www.activethai.com/ – the site I started with. Teaches the consonants separated by class and with sound. The only reason this is no longer my top recommendation is that I ended up using this alongside a resource that helped me memorise what the words used to represent the letters actually mean because the site itself didn’t tell me, and I wanted that easy way to have 44 vocabulary words ready as soon as you’re done learning your consonants, and it gives you access to neat mnemonics such as ไก่จิกเด็กตาย(เฎ็กฏาย)บนปากโอ่ง.
The chart on Wikipedia’s English article on the Thai Script
the reference section of Thai-Language.com
In order to better learn to read Thai written in different fonts (modern and handwriting fonts can be tough at first), the Thai Script typographical styles overview on Thai-language.com was a huge help, as was throwing simple phrases things into gdocs and messing around to see how different fonts made them look. This chart from sanukmaak.com also helped.
Speaking and pronunciation
The hardest one for any new language for most folks. For me personally, finding someone who speaks the language and is willing to correct me was an absolute necessity, but I know that’s not always an option. If you’re going it on your own, make sure you check out the resources above for learning to hear the tones and those sounds and sound clusters not present in your own language correctly first.
Things to try on your own:
shadowing: Whenever someone on a show utters a sentence you think might be useful, or provide a useful pattern, or something just sounds cool, rewind and try to speak along as they say it, trying to make it sound as close to their pronunciation as you can.
try to record yourself and listen back – yes, it’s cringe af but it will HELP.
memorising short sentences and phrases: tying back to the section above, there’s a ton of youtube videos that is “phrases to use in [situation]” that are great for targeted learning if you’re up for it
self talk (cautiously! don’t want to cement bad pronunciation habits)
if you’re linguistically inclined: looking up descriptions on how to make a sound correctly sometimes helps, as does watching videos of folks who’ve successfully learned the language.
once you’ve learned to read: find sentences to read somewhere (twitter, a textbook, whatever) and read them into your phone’s dictation engine. See if the software understands you correctly. Adjust as needed until it does.
Websites and apps to find language partners or (paid) tutors
Like any other app where you ‘meet people’, please exercise caution on these.
italki (mainly for finding tutors and teachers, but you can find language partners on the forums)
Preply (web/app) (for finding tutors/teachers)
hellotalk (app only, iOS/android) for finding language partners – free to use basic features like messaging, voice rooms, etc; has annoying ads
tandem (app only, iOS/android) for finding language partners – free to use basic features, has ads
any other app or website that’ll let you meet people, like local facebook groups (yes really), instagram, etc
(note: Neither hellotalk nor tandem allow users to sign up without selecting a binary gender. it sucks. I’ve seen people who managed to circumvent this on Hellotalk by signing up via apple ID (? I think), but it’s hearsay and I have not managed to do so myself.)
Books (a book) that are (is) worth spending money on imo
Higbie & Thinsan: Thai Reference Grammar. The Structure of Spoken Thai. Orchid Press: Bangkok, 2002. Yes, it’s ancient in textbook terms. It’s not perfect, but it’s still the best reference grammar for Thai I’ve come across so far, and I use it frequently.
Random bits and bobs
Stu Jay Raj has two videos in particular that I, as a phonetics-and-phonology-loving person, loved and found extremely useful and wished I’d watched before I started to try and learn the script: Thai Vowels for Dummies in 5 Min v2 - A System Impossible to Forget and Thai Bites Extended Edition - Transliterating Thai using IPA. I realise these may be overwhelming and less helpful for people with no prior phonetics or phonology training, but they helped me so much it’d feel amiss not to include them.
Resources I recommend AGAINST using when starting out
drops/hello words – seems like their Thai courses have been created using machine translation that wasn’t sufficiently proofread. They will assign you nouns in places of the corresponding verb or false cognates, and that’s within the first 10 or so lessons. Might be useful once the level where a learner can tell “ah, yeah, that’s … not right” has been reached? idk.
transcription as generated by google translate: BURN IT WITH FIRE. it’s a transliteration, i.e. 1-to-1 representation of 1 Thai letter = 1 Latin letter (extended), it’s not phonemic, it’s not going to help ANYONE (and those who can make sense of it presumably already read Thai and would be better off with just Thai script). Just. Stop.
Google translate as a dictionary: still shitty but not AS bad as the transcription function. Still, for the love of all that you hold dear, please, save yourself the pain and confusion and just use thai2english or thai-language.com instead.
And that’s that from me, friends. Yeeting this into the void before I second-guess myself more. Please append additional resources!
Edited to fix a couple of typos and errors on 2023-06-15

What I've Done Instead of Shadow Work
This is going to be the last thing I say on the topic of shadow work, because, honestly I'm getting bored of the subject and would rather go back to talking about spirit work, or spells, or any of the many other subjects that I care a thousand times more about. Some folks seem to be hearing “I refuse to do any introspection” when I say "I have never and will never do shadow work". I have done lots of introspection, I've done therapy that follows evidence based practices, I just see no reason do try and guide myself through a method of therapy with little to no scientific evidence. But in case anyone's curious, or wants some tips, here's what I've done instead! Mindfulness exercises: I love mindfulness exercises that train you to think about your thoughts, but not judge them. Consistent mindfulness practice has really helped me become more aware of my internal thought processes, what I get hung up on, what I struggle with, what emotions I’m feeling and what caused them.
The Artist Way & Embrace Your Weird: These are both self help books for creative folks with a heavy emphasis on journaling and self expression. I found both of these helpful in different ways when I felt like I was struggling with creative burnout or felt like I was stuck in the daily grind of my day job.
Journaling: I keep multiple journals! One is a commonplace book that I fill up with on the spot thoughts, quotes, song lyrics, etc. just stuff I want to remember. The other I write in every morning when I first wake up, a continuation of the morning pages from the Artist’s Way, to just unpack and process whatever going on in my head.
Therapy: Actual real therapy with a licensed professional. I specifically see a pain psychologist because most of what we focus on is the impact my chronic pain has on my and developing healthy coping mechanisms for that.
I think what gets a bee in my bonnet the most about the few negative reactions I’ve gotten on this topic is that these folks seem most concerned about the trauma and “inner demons” aspects of shadow work. There’s always something about how dangerous or unhealthy it is for me or even those around me for me to have not delt with my trauma via shadow work. I don’t like that they presume to know my life and mental health history without having ever spoken to me. And I really don’t like the insistance that everyone has the same kind of trauma that needs to be healed in the same way.

Eeeeyyyyy don't mind me hiding in your blog for a while, mine is being BOMBARDED with notification (the good kind) hahaha 😅😅
Anyways what is Shifty and shifter!Stan interaction like? Does shifty still call shifter!Stan Dama”?
No worries! I do enjoy responding to these, so hide away.
I've already caved and plan to write another chapter (the siren song is too much for me) that wont be posted for some time that'll go over their meet up in detail, but i can give you an overview of what it'll be like as of now (which might change, depending on how the story goes)
Unfortunately, Dama is a cat Stan only title. There's no one here to not tell him to call Stan that, so he's just Uncle Stanley.
Shifty is very excited to meet the shapeshifter who's going to help them grow up properly, even more so when it turns out to be his own uncle. Stan's.. well, he's in a depressed slump, his brother thought his inner most important secret was a joke, and he's mad at Maurice for tricking him into being here. So while he's very excited to help his nephew, he's also kinda grumpy and snappy at everyone for daring to be alive while he has feelings.
It becomes pretty obvious pretty fast that Stan has no idea what he's doing, and he's winging it. He was raised hands off, and while he's the most social of his circle, he also has zero experience raising a baby shapeshifter, especially one with Shifty's situation. Shifty doesnt have a base, is far more versatile then even Stan, and is the spawn of a wild shapeshifter, so there wasnt anyone to tell him everything he needed when he was growing in his egg. Stan's basically working from scratch with no experience, and Maurice bounced asap.
On top of that, this is his actual nephew, and Ford is constantly hovering, watching what he's doing and taking notes. Its nerve wracking, and not helping Stan feel comfortable. Stan's also not making Ford and Fiddleford comfortable, because his first suggestion to getting a base is... less than ideal.
Once Stan gets the hang of it, he and Shifty have a lot of fun together. Too much fun, in Ford and Fiddlefords opinion, since their idea of fun is doing actual crime across town and in the woods. Too bad for them, crime is a shapeshifters bread and butter. Very few try to get jobs outside of some kind of criminal activity, and those that do tend to do it more as a hobby, so Shifty has to learn how to do it properly.
Cue parental disagreement, and the inevitable "Shifty should be allowed to do anything he wants to do! What would you do if you could do anything!"
Stan: crime. I love crime.
Ford: i don't even know what i expected.
Shifty: I love crime too!
Fiddleford and Ford: D:

Supernatural is leaving Prime in 2 hours (less by the time I watch and post) so let's fit one more in, my friends. Let's hope this journey doesn't end here.
Season 5 Episode 8 - Changing Channels
Such a good one, too
○ I love the stereotypical sitcom opening
Great laugh track
○ The theme song 😂
Tumblr media
○ Their hair colours are so different without a typical spn filter
○ Dean watching Dr. Sexy, MD with that particular facial expression
○ Oh there is a MotW case within this episode
Lady saw the Hulk. The TV show one.
"Hot-head being killed by tv's greatest hot-head"
○ Dean putting it all together that it's the Trickster pretty quickly
Sam doesn't want to kill him
"He's one of the most powerful creatures we've ever met. Maybe we can use him."
Sam is hoping since the Trickster loves a lot of the things that come with humanity, so maybe he'd want to help save it.
Also, so no MotW. Just him since it was TV related.
○ I love the clear Grey's Anatomy ripoff. Hilarious.
"Dr. Wang. Sexy but arrogant heart surgeon"
The ghost patient in the mind of the other doctor
Tumblr media
○ Do I really need to comment on the "Dr. Sexy" scene?
I don't think I have a choice. I held off for as long as I could.
The facial expression. The stuttering. The blushing. The slamming against the wall. The noticing of the shoes (like his 2 kinks in one, but the second was missing. Of course he noticed). Him being a fan of Dr. Sexy in general.
Tumblr media
"It's a guilty pleasure"
○ The Trickster completely built this world.
Also, I love him so much
(I've been calling him the Trickster, bc that's how we are supposed to know him at this point, but I've seen far enough to know who he really is)
He wants the to play "the game"
○ Sam's character's girlfriend being all dramatic with him lol
○ Dean got shot bc he wouldn't give a guy's wife a face transplant. This is so funny.
Sam has to be a real doctor for him 😂😂
"I need a pen knife, some dental floss, a sewing needle, and a fifth of whiskey" lmao
○ Now they're in a Japanese Game Show
Sam got straight clocked in a not-fun area
Tumblr media
Cas here to find them 🩷
And he disappeared before he could save them
Sam figured out they have to play their roles in order to go to the next show
Let's hope for Dean's baby-maker's sake he answers the question he doesn't understand correctly
Okay, so now he speaks Japanese
Tumblr media
The side-affects of the drug lmao
○ Ou back to the sitcom
○ Cas back again
And of course him and the Trickster know eachother
Tumblr media
His face my god
○ The Trickster wants them to play their roles in real life. Aka be the vessels for Michael and Lucifer. Why?
"It can't be stopped. Let's get it over with"
He doesn't like either side
Either they do it, or they stay in "TV Land"
○ Now they're in a procedural cop show
Dean's not happy about it
Tumblr media
Lmao the boys acting
They pretend to be FBI all the time. How do they suck so bad at acting everytime?
They killed him. In an absolutely brilliant way. How'd they know?
○ Dean's worried about where Cas is 💔
○ Okay Sam is the car
"I don't think we killed the Trickster"
They figured out he's not a Trickster. And that he's an angel.
○ Sam's turn with a snarky saying
○ Gabe's been hiding from the other angels under the guise of a Trickster
Couldn't handle the family drama. Hates that it's back.
"Why do you think you two are the vessels?"
He's saying they are direct parallels to Michael and Lucifer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that they always knew it would end with these 2
○ Dean threatening the Archangel Gabriel to get Cas back 🩷
○ "It's about you being too afraid to stand up to your family"
Dean could've left Gabriel there forever, but didn't 🩷
Sometimes, I just love Dean's heart

"5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?"
This with Lee and Will, especially, but I'm actually very curious about all of cabin seven. As a whole and individually
oh baby you are going to be Mad. i need you to imagine will making these songs for his brothers:
Michael by Jenn Grant (spotify) (youtube)
Lee by Unloved (spotify) (youtube)
Lee by Nina Nastasia (spotify) (youtube)
amazing and awful things happen when you look names up on spotify. highly recommend. i am currently looking for diana and cass and i will reblog this when i have them.
IN ADDITION music that is v will coded i have a whole playlist actually. its for the road trip au 👀👀 and some of it is will singing in my head and some of it is him covering, but its here!! im working on it actively.
WHEN i think of this one-off part (not one-off i tried to write it causally but he fucking occupies 72% of the space in my brain so bad so constantly) i wrote:
"He says it quiet like he does at the campfire, when it’s only the older kids left but she’s managed to stick around, holding her breath so they won’t notice and send her away. When Will lies back on a log and matches his breathing to the flames, eyes unseeing, and Annabeth watches him carefully and whispers, “Play us something, Will.” And he picks up the guitar he keeps dusty under his bed and sings something soft like there’s no hardness left inside him. No bowstring."
i am feral and i have several songs that i think will would sing here:
Drown Me by Dasha (spotify) (youtube)
girl i've always been by Olivia Rodrigo (spotify) (youtube)
All I've Built by Holden Miller (spotify) (youtube)
i also feel like will & kayla & austin sing What Is This Feeling? from the Wicked Soundtrack (spotify) (youtube) when they're tense & need to laugh during long infirmary shifts & other nerds join in LOL
not will or cabin 7 but No More ?'s by Eazy-E (spotify) (youtube) is a song percy listens to just All the time
I ALSO sometimes think will is so repressed he could just Let Loose and write something mad and hurting and just explosive. these are the songs (they are mostly demi lovato who i feel has a lot or parallels w will actually):
Give Your Heart A Break (Revamped) by Demi Lovato (spotify) (youtube)
Heart Attack (Revamped) by Demi Lovato (spotify) (youtube)
Beautiful Things by Benson Boone (spotify) (youtube) *look i know its overplayed now but when i was assigning it to will it was brand new LOL
most of HOLY FVCK by Demi Lovato (spotify) (youtube) (ESPECIALLY City of Angels)
i have in depth lore for all of these btw. like entire storylines about them feel free to ask me about them
some misc songs that make me think of will or solangelo (a lot for naomi tbh yall'll see) or the likes:
Cleopatra by The Lumineers (spotify) (youtube) (will made song)
After Midnight by Chappell Roan (spotify) (youtube) (will made song)
Good Luck, Babe! by Chappell Roan (spotify) (youtube) (naomi made song)
Slow It Down by Benson Boone (spotify) (youtube) (song makes me think of solangelo)
Dandelions by Ruth B. (spotify) (youtube) (will made song)
Orpheus by Vincent Lima (spotify) (youtube) (song makes me think of cabin 7)
Eurydice by Vincent Lima (spotify) (youtube) (song makes me think of cabin 7)
Hair Toss, Arms Crossed by Mark Ambor (spotify) (youtube) (song makes me think of solangelo)
Austin by Dasha (spotify) (youtube) (naomi song)
Dying Star by Ashnikko (spotify) (youtube) (will made song)
Suneater by Leanna Firestone (spotify) (youtube) (song makes me think of solangelo)
July by Noah Cyrus (spotify) (youtube) (song makes me think of solangelo)
Line Without a Hook by Ricky Montgomery (spotify) (youtube) (ong makes me think of solangelo
Summer by Kesha (spotify) (youtube) (song makes me think of solangelo)

First off, I just wanna say you're a massive inspiration for me in both art and game design, and I hope one day I can make my very own Sorry We're Closed-like
But I wanted to ask how'd you start designing the music for your game? I listen to the Church song a lot when writing, and I struggle to imagine you making this by just throwing your head against Bandlab for hours.
I'm really glad that track is one of your faves cause it is probably the one I like the most of the ones I made myself! It was something that I wanted to sorta represent the calmness my partner can bring for me whenever I'm having a really tough time.
I've always had an interest in music, and for sometime I use to just feel like I didn't have what it takes to make good music, cause I was a visual artist. It wasn't until I was a bit older and started exploring other hobbies that actually, I can just learn whatever I want and that whatever I do doesn't have to be perfect. I did it with the 3d stuff for the game, I had to learn about environments, I had to learn what I could about writing, level design, and game design, so I guess I could do it with music too. It also helped that we had a couple of game jams we did before where there was no time to worry about something being great, I just had to make the music cause there was no one else to do it. For that song specifically I knew I wanted something really calming so I started off with a sample from the very well known gymnopedie - but there was a part of me that was like well I don't just want the song playing on its own. It's in a lot of indie games because its such a great song, its easy to find creative commons versions and I guess I wanted it to feel like it fit more in line with the other songs I had made.
So I sampled the first bit and decided to see where I can take the song with playing some other instruments (via garageband on the ipad). It really was a lot of me just pressing keys and seeing what I like the feeling of. I had to do a lot of messing around with reverb and echo etc on the different instruments to soften them up too . The different instruments I guess feel like different parts that can make up an illustration. Like some highlight part of the song, some sit in the background, some pull the composition together, the negative space. I don't have musical education, the same way I don't have traditional art education, so for now its me messing around, and thinking onto tracks that I like. Strong inspirations for that song in particular were these : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iC-owuB3Poc&list=PLXZ739zNFgN0fEv1RMLEdsUmiPR7GzYbS&index=12

I find it's the same as with art. It's good to think about what you really like, what inspires you, and use that inspiration and push it into something that's your own. I think music is something everyone should spend time playing around with, because like all artistic endeavours it is easier now than ever to give it a try.
Now that I have some time for my hobbies, I definitely want to explore making more music.

Just popping in to say that I love your blog so much and that I always find myself scrolling through it when I catch a bad case of Little Shop brainworms <33 thank you for truly being the backbone of this Tumblr community ^^ Also!! Do you have any aspect of LSOH (either film or stage show :)) you LOVE a ton but don't see enough people talk about or praise?? Or just an underrated aspect of it in general?? Hope that question makes sense lol and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day/night :D
Aw thank you so much! Means a lot to know that I'm contributing something worthwhile to this small but passionate fandom on here!
Anyhoo, that’s a good question. Just about everyone I've seen has covered everything about Little Shop down to the nitty gritty details and I absolutely love that. However, if there’s one thing I think deserves more love and tends to get overlooked, it's Lee Wilkof, who originated the role of Seymour on stage.
He tends to get thrown under the bus a lot by some people and I have absolutely no idea why. I've heard people criticizing him saying that he was too old for the role at the time, but he was only 31 when the show first opened and is actually slightly younger than Ellen Greene but no one seems to be saying that she was too old for her role. That, or either he doesn’t look the part, which I don’t understand how he couldn’t look like Seymour when he was the first guy to play Seymour on stage. If it's about him balding prematurely at the time, who cares? Seymour's not supposed to be this conventionally attractive guy anyway so why should there be a set standard for how he should look? Those complaints are just a bit silly to me.
Besides that, he also gets completely upstaged by Ellen (which is understandable 😂) so most people tend to remember her more when it comes to the original off-Broadway production. I mean, she even got top billing over Lee who was the lead which is kind of insane when you think about it (but again, iconic for her).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then later, he got even more overshadowed by Rick Moranis, which I also get. He played Seymour in the movie which was most people's first introduction to the character so I understand that there's going to be some sort of bias present.
Basically, everything was not in his favor which sucks cause I really love him as Seymour. He added a lot of grit to the role, which I typically don’t see a lot of Seymours doing. Most people play him very passive or overly timid, which is fine, but Seymour's a very morally grey character that isn't all good or all bad. He's cute and insecure, yes, but he also indirectly murders people and feeds them to a plant lol. There's gotta be a balance and Lee gets that. He really nails all the anger, guilt, distress, etc. that Seymour goes through throughout the show. The Meek Shall Inherit and Death of Seymour in particular are when he really gets a chance to pop off. And he's of course able to be sweet and sincere when needed such as during Suddenly Seymour or basically anytime he interacts with Audrey. His singing is also amazing! I primarily listen to 1982 cast album just for him (and Ellen I won't lie haha). I especially love his vibrato and how hard he goes in some of the songs like Feed Me and Now It's Just The Gas. And he has great chemistry with Ellen! What's not to love?
I also appreciate how he’s still very much involved in Little Shop whether it’s doing an interview, like recently with Little Shop of Audrey, or showing up for Little Shop related events, like the 2015 Encores opening night afterparty. Not a lot of actors do that especially so long after their show has ended so I can tell the role and Little Shop as a whole has meant a lot to him. I mean, he met his future wife while working on the show so you can’t say it doesn’t mean something to him lol.
While I have said in the past that Rick is my favorite Seymour, Lee is for sure a close second. He played an essential part in making Little Shop what it is today by laying out the foundation for Seymour which is very respectable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah, give him some more love! He's great!
And thanks for the ask! Have a wonderful rest of your day/night too <3

Thank you so much to author of this text, and to @valar-did-me-wrong and the baddydaddy brigade community for showing me this post. And I want to write what I myself think about all of this. But it's going to touch on a religious topic.
The problem is that in my "home" it is dangerous to say something from a religious point of view, because many people will start laughing at you or scolding you, and it will end up causing a conflict you didn't want. Here, too, I've seen people avoid discussing religious matters out of tact and not wanting to hurt their interlocutor. But I can't imagine avoiding such statements when talking about someone's death.
The following are just my own thoughts. I in no way wish to pass them off as some kind of truth, or to impose them on anyone, or to devalue anyone else's faith or views.
Adar as a RoP character made a very strong impression on me for many reasons, and I miss him dearly. At the same time, I feel like any attempt to honor his memory would drive me into an even greater longing than his horrible and unjust death.
I don't believe anyone can find immortality in their children. Children are different, separate people. Of course, they have a lot from their parents, but I think their own life continues in them, not someone else's...
Same with the memory of deeds, statues, songs and other memorabilia. Of course it is all right and necessary. And it was given even greater importance in ancient times. But it's not comforting either. And here I understand Galadriel with her desire to avenge her brother, though his heroic death is surrounded by all possible honors that his kin could give him.
Immortality for me is personal immortality. Existence in consciousness, in some form, perhaps even in body. And professor Tolkien gives such examples, even if only as a possibility, and not all of them are connected with resurrection.
Late evening Adar thoughts: I like to imagine Adar was also part of the The Dagor Dagorath (Battle of all Battles) prophecy about the Middle Earth heroes and the Valar coming back to defeat Morgoth once and for all in the last battle, bringing life back into the two trees of Valinor and restoring Arda to it’s original glorious state, to simply put it. He might not have been remembered as any “hero” but he was to me. And to see him finally get revenge on Morgoth, the one who first caused his suffering and torment would be so satisfying and relieving tbh 🥺
Tumblr media
Another thing… the tragic downside of the trop writers adding such a wonderful canon-like original character like Adar to the show is that he feels like a “forgotten hero” that is erased from anything the lore masters ever wrote and how they didn’t care to keep his name alive, because he’s an orc, a corrupted elf who isn’t worthy of any true acknowledgment from the actual “heroes”, even though he was very much worthy. The fact only a few would remember him, and the songs that were sung of him never left that small circle of elves who might’ve treasured his memory in secret. Even the offspring of his children probably don’t/didn’t know anything about him either. It’s just so sad that even when I think of wholesome hcs, I immediately get depressed because non of it matters in the end. He’s gone, forgotten, but at least we will remember him for a long time 😭
This can apply to the other original characters like Arondir, Disa, Bronwyn etc as well, but with Adar it’s different because of what and who he was and how his life ended so unfairly. He was literally RIPPED from us and we are expecting to just “move on”… it’s hard to deal with

I've been posting a lot of stuff related to the upcoming GYNX album "The Daydream Disaster" on Patreon so I wanted to take this opportunity to drop a link to mine really quick..
I've been posting WIPs as I make them and completed songs as I finish them ("Check This Out!", "Alter Ego", and "Where Do You Belong?" are the songs that I've finished recently), and I also uploaded a .zip of the upcoming album in its current state (at the time of posting... some stuff has changed, but all of the stuff that was updated is on patreon too!). There's other stuff as well like misc Evenghost WIPs from the upcoming album (although updates on that have been slow since I'm focusing on the GYNX album) and production stems (individual instruments rendered into WAV form) of my songs for anyone wanting to make remixes.
Here's a video preview of one of the songs I finished:
Check it out if you'd like! RBs are super appreciated here too. I love that I get to do music as my job, but it becomes quite unsustainable in between new releases/merch drops, and I really need to be doing everything I can to bring in extra funds so we can keep paying rent and bills on time (and so I can afford to keep making new merch stuff - hard to order new things when you don't have the money for it). Thanks so much!

Epic
I know Nnobody cares, but it's been two long weeks and my life is not the same anymore, so I need to summarise what happened. I liked Greece and Greek culture since childhood, but my life went in different ways. Now this interest is comming back in unimaginable speed and force. 2004 - the movie Troy came out (I was fourteen then and I will never forgive Legolas getting Hector killed. Also Patroclus T_T) 2009 - I finally read the Illiad 2023, spring-ish - during some late late night unhealthy Facebook Shorts scrollings (it was a difficult time) I've first discovered Epic: The Musical songs and made a note to myslef to find out what they're from (I did not) 2023, summer - my sister played the songs on Spotify, making me finally aware how I can find them (I still did not) 2023, autumn - I remebered it on several occasions, but was too busy to inquire more 2024, two weeks ago - my friend discoverd Epic and told me of her discovery; I have not listened to any different song since 2024, now - I'm reding the Odyssey; it's been fifteen years since the Illiad, and while it would be hilarious to wait five more, I can't wait... I don't make the rules

I analyze fandoms the same way I analyze the media they're built around and that should concern all of you
#the MXTX fandoms are FASCINATING#They reflect their books#(SVSSS has the most‚ most creative‚ and some of the best AUs and is also twice as unhinged as the other two combined)#(MDZS has the most and prettiest art (the settings and character design cannot be matched) and most interesting dynamic analysis.)#(TGCF has the cleanest (RELATIVE) fandom and the biggest obsession with its main couple (rightly so) It also has the least shipping overlap#but they are also distinct creations of themselves- I've seen the LEAST amount of mpreg in MDZS#(desite the fact that WWX would LOVE that!)#Now why is that? let's think about it#hmm. Well‚ since they already have the juniors‚ a lot less people are making up new kids- and therefore requiring mpreg#or they're taking advantage of characters like Xue Yang who could've used a good dad or two.#very interesting!#but don't worry! this analysis is not confined to the MXTX fandom!#you ever look at how the fandom for The Song of Achilles (TSOA) reflects its books?#First of all they've got some AMAZING art#and the book has amazing descriptions#and‚ interestingly‚ this fandom has unusually well-divided attention among the parts of the book#which reflects a very nice significance everything seemed to have when I read them#we also have a majority of popular AUs that are “they're happy now fuck you‚” my favorite being them adopting Hyacinthus#and honestly? the book wanted them to be happy too#you could feel it#anyway I love analyzing shit and I will never run out of victims#analysis#fandom#mxtx#mdzs#svsss#tgcf#tsoa#ramblings

Have you seen black sails? I don't want to spoil it but I imagine the "they live" au being similar to a certain plot in that show. Bittersweet and you're not sure if it's really a *good* life but at least they're together.....

I very much recommend watching Epic the Musical on Youtube.
I know a little about it! Mostly through animatics. I've heard all of "The Horse and the Infant" from ROTTMNT but all I really recall of it is the infant section I heard more recently in a LMK one. I've also seen "Get in the Water", male and female version, but I heard the female version first for an animatic of Hama that's now on Youtube (First link is tumblr, second is youtube).
Everything I've heard so far is a bang-up job! I just keep forgetting to actually check it out.

Thanks for the tag, @pinguwuuuu ❤️
What’s the origin of your username?: I like books. A lot. My whole room has been taken over by them. I was going to try and be a bookblr/booklr blog at one point but that didn't pan out. Kept the username, though!
OTPs + shipname: While I can enjoy the dynamics of most ships, some of my favourites are Dimitri/Byleth (Dimileth), Yuri/Byleth (Yurileth), Felix/Byleth (Felileth), Itachi/Sakura (Itasaku), Sesshomaru/Kagome (Sesskag).
Fave color?: Difficult! I love jewel tones but especially emerald and deep purple, and pastel colour palettes. I have an obscenely colourful, maximalist interior design Pinterest board.
Song stuck in my head: 'Silver Springs' - Fleetwood Mac
Weirdest habit/trait: I can't sit with both feet on the floor. One has to be under my butt.
Hobbies: -deep breath in- Writing, reading, sewing plushies, cross-stitch, knitting, drawing, making jewellery, embroidery, thrift shopping.
If you could have any job you wish, what would you have?: Professional author. Still plugging away at trying to get a novel finished but my executive dysfunction is laughing at me.
Something you’re good at: Aside from my hobbies, I think I'm good at looking a situation from multiple angles. Not necessarily just an argument, but people's possible motivations, what might've led up to something, and what the consequences might be. And taking small details and expanding on them. Also turning anything into an innuendo.
Something you hate: Being touched and people in my personal space, which really sucks when I have to take public transport to and from work every day and people don't take off their backpacks on the train. No sir, I don't know why you need a bag that is twice as wide as you when you are clearly an office worker. Your Windows Surface does not need all that real estate.
Something you forget: Usually to wear my smart watch. Or that I have read a message and haven't actually replied yet.
Your love language: I love giving gifts and receiving words of affirmation.
Fave movies/shows:
TV Shows: Bleach, Naruto, Jujutsu Kaisen, InuYasha, Bungo Stray Dogs, My Hero Academia, Happy Valley, Breaking Bad, Peaky Blinders, Sailor Moon, Fushigi Yugi, Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, Story of Yanxi Palace, Bridgerton, and more.
Movies: Pan's Labyrinth, Practical Magic, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Whisper of the Heart, Fifth Element, Equilibrium, Hellboy, The Conjuring, Limitless, etc.
Fave food?: Impossible question. I'll eat most things, except jelly/jello, bananas, rice pudding, yoghurt with bits of fruit in it, or cooked fruit like in apple pies (mostly a texture thing). I do love pizza though.
Fave animal?: Cats, hands down.
What were you like as a child?: Quiet, introverted, pretty much lost in books or drawing. I'd spend most of my time at the local library to max out the amount of books we were able to borrow.
I also used to startle my mother by playing 'Barbie Bungee.' This game involves tying a piece of string around the doll and dropping them out of your bedroom window. My mother would be downstairs and I'd scare her with the sound of little plastic titties tapping against the window. 😂
Fave subject in school?: English Literature and Art throughout most of my school years. I enjoyed History, too.
Least fave subject?: Maths. What the fuck is an integer?
What’s your best character trait?: Probably my independence. I've lived on my own since my early teens so if I need to do something I will (eventually) just do it. I'm good at problem solving, so if I hit an obstacle or need to figure out how to do something, I'll just research it myself. A "I don't know, but I'll find out" kind of mentality.
What’s your worst character trait?: Impulsivity and inabiltiy to follow through on some things. E.g. buying less books and saving more money. Guess what I did instead?
If you could change any detail of your life, what would it be?: I would probably have taken the reins a lot earlier and figured things out for myself rather than relying on other people.
If you could travel in time, who would you like to meet?: I couldn't think of an answer for this one…
@amostimprobabledream, @among-the-twinkling-stars, only if you'd like to participate.
Get to know mutuals ^-^ tagged by @bankaizen (thank you for the tag ❤️)
I'm sorry, it's so long!! I'm putting it behind the read more for easier reading.
What’s the origin of your username? It's a song by Armand Van Helden! He's one of my favourite DJs haha.
OTP(s) + shipname: TUna LMAO (Tidus/Yuna) from FFX, Fanille (Fang/Vanille from FFXIII), Touya/Yukito from CCS, GinRan and Unohana/Isane from Bleach. Yakuza: Daigo/Mine. Also a big fan of Canon Character/OCs!!!
Favourite colour: Turquoise/teal - most of my fountain pen inks are in that colour range lol
Song stuck in my head: The Macrodata Refinement Dance Party mixed by ODESZA
Weirdest habit/trait: If I'm at a restaurant, I fold my used napkins neatly to be disposed of.
Hobbies: I have a lot! Aside from writing, there are:
(junk) journaling, which in turn, lead me to my stationery and fountain pen hobbies
playing the piano (been playing since I was 5)
swimming (was a competitive swimmer for most of my child and teenage years)
I garden in the spring/summertime
I also love to cook and have done dinner parties for my friends (but I don't enjoy baking)
I'm also into photography
I wish I had more time in the day for it, but I also try to do some language learning!
If you could have any job you wish what would you have? A food/travel writer/reviewer!
Something you’re good at: I've been told I'm good at giving advice and listening to people. Personally I'm very good at directions! There have been a few times where I've been stopped on the street and helped people navigate their way around.
Something you hate: Oranges :(, I can't stand the colour, the smell and the taste.
Something you forget: Hmmm not sure! I guess phone numbers. I only remember the numbers of my immediate family...
Your love language: Gift giving! I love getting people gifts and try hard to get something meaningful and/or practical. I'll try to remember little details about my friends and find something along the lines of that. I also love receiving gifts lol.
Favourite movies/shows: Ahhh so many! For animanga: Bleach, Samurai Champloo, xxxHOLiC, Sailor Moon, JJBA Diamond is Unbreakable. For movies: Spirited Away, Sorry to Bother You, Drive, Kill Bill Vol 2, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, The Fall. Shows: Hannibal, Regular Show, 30 Rock, Prison Playbook (k-drama), Hotel del Luna (k-drama), Racket Boys (k-drama).
Favourite food: Too many... I think I could eat soup dumplings/xiaolongbao by the bucket loads. Or Sri Lankan crab curry mmmm. I also can't say no to chocolate cake 🫣
Favourite animal: bears!!! I know they could kill me, but why are they friend-shaped :(
What were you like as a child? I was an easygoing child and VERY curious. I would wake up in the middle of the night to do "science" experiments. Like one time I woke up around 3am and I dug up the front yard to find "cool rocks" 💀 or buy mentos from the local convenience store, wait for everyone to go to bed, then sneak into the kitchen and put the mentos in my parents 2L coke bottle to see it explode LMAO.
Favourite subject in school: i've been in school for too long: french & geography -> science -> physics -> biology -> advanced health economics for low and middle-income countries & biostatistics
Least favourite subject: Wood working... to avoid a fail, I asked the guy who had a crush on me to help me with my final project 🫣 I also hated organic chemistry in undergrad.
What’s your best character trait: I've been told I'm very caring and calming to be around! I had a friend describe me as a "human version of a spa" 💀
What’s your worst character trait? I cut people out of my life very easily. I think I should be more forgiving, but I just... can't get passed whatever slight was made to me/loved ones. I'm trying to be understanding and compassionate, but I also don't want you near me ever again lol.
If you could change any detail of your life right now, what would it be? I hope trump and his administration dies. In my immediate life? I'd like a higher salary.
If you could travel in time, who would you like to meet? It is definitely a tie between Johann Sebastian Bach and Muzio Clementi!! They are my favourite composers. My piano exam repertoire for the Baroque and Classical periods were from their piano repertoire. I have so much fun playing them and would love to learn their thought processes.
I tag: @soprawrites @villainsrtasty @nail-art-no-jutsu @muzansfangs @snuggetfish @if-dreams-do-come-true and any others who want to do this too (also feel free to ignore if you don't wanna do this, no obligation at all!!)
