Also including an Aphrodite ref sheet that I've had 90% finished for like the last 8 months but hadn't bothered to finish until just recently lol

Anyways buckle up because I'm about to start YAPPIN

I wasn't sure how this was gonna go at first because I don't have a lot of experience with designing male characters and it's not something I typically enjoy but I really like how he turned out and I really enjoyed the process. I was like wait this is fun actually, it's different than what I usually draw.

I've been wanting to do something with Ares for a long time because I think he's really slept on in the Greek mythology community. I think Ares and Aphrodite probably have the healthiest relationship in Greek mythology and I've always found it interesting that the ancient Greeks paired Love with War

I've seen people talk shit about Aphrodite like "oh she cheats on her husband, that's so shitty" like,, you mean the husband she was forced to marry? Ok... But on that note I think Aphrodite and Hephaestus's marriage is interesting and it is something I plan on doing something with. Hephaestus is another one of the few seemingly upstanding men in Greek mythology so I feel like he treats Aphrodite with respect and they find love between each other after some time, in their own way.

Something I always think about is Ares is such a good dad?? He's often depicted in statues with Eros and in war is almost always accompanied by Deimos and Phobos. like yes, spend quality time with your children, so cute <3 Also he supports his Amazon daughters. He unalives a man who assaulted his daughter and it pisses off Poseidon so bad that they INVENT court to put him on trial just for Ares to go "Yeah I did it, and I'd fuckin do it again" and gets acquitted

Back to my Ares design. I thought it would be interesting if his scars were transient, as in not really permanent scars but more like very slowly healing wounds filling with ichor. The only way he can scar permanently is if the injury is inflicted on him by another immortal...

Stole the glowy hair from Disney's Hercules because that shit is peak character design

I was not going to draw any helmets at first because... I didn't want to lol but I read that he like almost always had his helmet. Like he's showing up to fancy dinners carrying his helmet. So I was like okay fine have your emotional support helmet lol

His spear is a gift from Aphrodite, it has a little heart design engraved into it <3 I find Warlike Aphrodite VERY interesting and I like to imagine her having a surprisingly strong affinity for conflict

Personality wise, Ares tries to put up a tough guy "whatever. I don't care act" but he is actually very much a people pleaser and has a distinct desire to be accepted. He is keenly aware that he is not well liked among the gods nor the mortals. He is not the beloved, wise, tactical Athena. He is Bloodlust and Carnage, he is the ugliest sides of war. To most mortals he is a god to appease, not worship.

He loves his mother, and he is her favorite child. He has spent his life defending her, even as a child and even against his father. He is not well liked by his father, but this is typical of Zeus, who is paranoid that one of his sons will eventually continue the family's proclivity for patricide.

did more work on Boe's house, finally building out the attic and basement, which completes the full structuring of the house itself.

top to bottom visualization of each floor, from the roof down to the basement. a lot of the furniture is mostly placeholder brushes for the time being, at least if i ever look into having proper models to replace them. ive also restructured some doors and walls to be closer to how i've imagined his house to look, rather than leaving the layout as is, based off of existing victorian house plans. also said house plans didn't include a bathroom, so i also added one of those. not that Boe would need to use the toylot in any such way. skeleton and all. you know.

some closer looks at the actual rooms themselves, also showcasing the work put into creating the attic. the attic's framing is mostly me trying to ensure it makes sense visually while also cutting down on brushes. i'm kinda proud of the work i put into the bathroom's tub and curtains, for as rudimentary as the brushwork is. most rooms and the basement are pretty barebones, as i both haven't put much time into fleshing them out, and because some rooms i honestly haven't really imagined in my head before constructing all this.

It's actually required by law that the more powerful you are as an evil sorcerer the more nude you have to be and Urlac is like the Most powerful guy around so...

Born third of the three brothers Urlac was gifted with with great knowledge and control of magic, spellcraft, and sorcery by The Heart of The Underworld. But where both Dreor and Auriel, his brothers, accepted their gifts with grace and humble reverance; Urlac saw the true depth and breadth of his abilities and knew himself to be more Powerful and Important than anything the heart had called him for.

While for a time he aligned himself with his older siblings, trying to teach and lead the new-formed kingdoms of the underworld, it would not last. He was vain and self righteous, and cared not for the needs of his people. He treated them with callousness and cruelty, which he seemed to take great joy in and surrounded himself with a court of powerful wizards and war-mongers, with whom he shared his knowledge of the secret darkest corners of magic.

As his power and influence grew, as did the darkness in his heart, until his brothers could abide to sit by and watch him slowly destroy their world no longer and pushed back against the sorcerer and his Vile Court.

Urlac was driven out of the underworld along with his most loyal followers, into the wastes of Nowhere, where he established his own kingdom and took to plotting his older brothers downfall.

The war he started lasted many dark and painful years, and only ended when Auriel landed Urlac a shocking fatal blow, and fracturing the Heart of the Underworld.

As the Underworld began the slow quiet process of rebuilding, the few of Urlac's servants and followers who remainded and evaded capture began to plot, they had their own rebuilding to do.

In the end it was only Ogrel, one of Urlacs closest advisors, strong in the necromantic arts, who was able to carry out their plans and bring Urlac's rotting corpse back to the Kingdom in Nowhere. Where he used the base of one of Urlac's own spells (the very same that had gicen Urlac his daughter Nenna) to begin the slow and meticulous process of restoring his master's body, mind, and spirit from the grave.

It was to be many ages before Urlac was ready to return, but with certainty Ogrel knew that his master's power will only have grown and his desire to enact revenge on his brothers and take the Underworld for himself would propel them forward into a new age... If only it weren't for the emerging rumours of a princess, the youngest daughter of Dreor, who was out roaming the Underworld under guidance of prophecy, trying to bring an end to the process before it's even begun....
