Good Omens Season 2 Rant and Spoilers
I can't even begin to explain how much I hate the Crowley was a higher up thing. No, he was not. He was a regular angel that would love unions. Crowley's powers are amazing because he has imagination and he cares. Deeply. And I don't like either how it paints him in a "the special one" light, which I personally refuse as I think the text implies otherwise. He is special because underneath it all Crowley is an optimist.
What they got right is that he wouldn't go back to heaven, he doesn't want it, he doesn't need it.I love that demon your honor.

Sylus
TW: knowingly putting oneself in danger, mortally wounded Sylus, insomnia, mild spoilers for Razorâs Grip ASMRÂ
Transcript:
Hey there! Youâve reached my voicemail, which is a rare occurrence. That either means I do not know recognize your caller ID. Orrrr you are a certain infuriating Boss Man, trying to calling me up at all ungodly hours of the night again. Whoever you are, leave a message after the beep and Iâll get back to you ASAP. Â
A heavy snort of sour laughter rolls past bruised lips, to hear the familiar automated sound of your voice playing on the other end of the line; one Sylus does not tire of no matter how many times heâs heard it. A thick, punishing burst of pain fractures across his torso when he chokes up on the blood gurgling within his throat. Â
Sylus reaches to curb the sound within a bloodied fist, clearing his throat to speak once more.Â
I suppose I did deserve all your reprimands, seeing as I am still calling you way past your bedtime, kitten. Â
His voice lowers an octave, slow, gentle. Â
I hope youâre having a good dream.Â
Iâm only calling because you told me to let you know anytime Iâd be away on a risky mission. A hushed chuckle sounds on the other end of the line. Â
You'd practically ordered it of me â do you remember? Â
The night when you grabbed me by the lapels and asked me to not make a deal all on my own, ever again. That you worried for me whenever I was gone and you wanted to know the next time I planned on taking a mission, of this caliber.Â
Youâd willingly walked back to me and since then, I have always made space for you, just like youâve wanted.Â
Iâve kept up my end of our bargain. Â
A guttural moan of pain sounds through the otherwise quiet of the night. Â
These wounds of mine... functioning without sleep for this long, and a poor decision made on my end, the combination was bound to have consequences. Â
His chuckles knell throaty, labored.Â
And now, all I wish to do is sleep. Â
A lengthy silence follows after, making one believe the user on the other end of the line mightâve cut the call. Or fallen asleep in exhaustion of his wounds, like he said. Â
Before that gentle burr of his sounds once more.Â
You know I canât die, sweetie, unfortunate as that is in this moment. Â
But I do have a wish for when my body inevitably loses its awareness for the short time it takes to recuperate. Â
I hope, Sylusâs voice softens. that when I close my eyes this time, I get to see you in my dreams. Â
Zayne
TW: allusions to embalming a body long after death, mentions of a protocore heart that continues to function even after the hostâs death, denial of griefÂ
Transcript:
Hi, youâve reached my voicemail. I am currently unavailable but drop me a message and Iâll get back to you, stat.Â
A quiet insouciant voice â the clearing of a throat â begins on the other end of the line. Â
Akso Hospital Log 171, the time right now is 4:17 AM. The hostâs heart continues to function, although its less-than-optimal cardiac output remains at 1L per min. A pulse rate of 13 beats per min has been documented today. A slight decrease from its value yesterday, recorded at 17 beats per minute. Â
A brief pause.Â
Does it bother you to hear me speak of you this way? Iâm sorry. A mere force of habit on my part. You are my patient, after all. Documentation must be precise, and to the point, for our research to progress, if we are to have even a sliver of a chance at resuscitating your heart. Â
I have hope we will succeed; I will do my utmost as a doctor so that we may save you. Â
Another pregnant pause.Â
Do you too think I am foolish for my efforts? Â
Greyson accosted me in the hallways tonight after my scheduled surgery and he seemed so... incensed. For being unable to give up on you, for crossing a line, to not get overtly attached to any of our patients, he said it was a clear violation of our Oath and called it my professional failing. And afterwards... he implored that I give up now. Â
Someone once asked me, long ago: if I would go beyond death to try and bring back the person I loved, were they to pass away. And I answered that I would not, a desecration of the dead is not something Iâd wish to do. Or wish upon the deceased. I would rather divert all my efforts to ensuring they would live, that their heart would continue to beat healthy. Â
So, in retrospect, it is Greyson whoâs strange in expecting my willing defeat, without having even tried to the best of my capabilities. Not when your heart still continues to beat.Â
I do, however, miss you... very much, even though hope remains in my heart.Â
When the day comes that you wake up, I hope you do not have to suffer like this, ever again.Â
Rafayel
TW: gradual loss of vision, self-blameÂ
Transcript:
Hi, hello! Iâm unable to answer your call at the moment but hey, feel free to drop me a voice message and Iâll get back to you soon. Bye-bye!Â
A sharp inhale; as if the person on the other end of the line is wracked by sudden, vicious pain. Â
Before the sound smoothens out, as if it had never been. An airy voice begins, although the nonchalant inflection to his tone sounds odd, all wrong â a fact the recipient of the voicemail wouldâve been able to parse instantly, were they still around.Â
Hey cutie! Itâs me again, your favorite person in the entire world. Â
Sorry about that earlier, I always get a bit startled whenever I hear you say good-bye in that crazy adorable voice. Â
Since yâknow, the very last time we met, you never told me you were leaving.Â
Silence descends. Â
It really feels like itâs been another 800 years, I fear the fish will actually start flying and the whales will start walking this time. Â
Only, I donât think youâre coming back this time, are you? Â
My bride can be so cruel sometimes.Â
A humorless laugh. Â
Anyyyyway, Iâm dropping a voice note today because my eyesightâs been acting up a bit lately so I canât really leave you a text like I usually do. Â
And before you scold me about it, I know Iâm not supposed to be painting this long but Iâm close to completing this new painting of you and I canât rest until itâs done and dusted. Â
Donât hate me for it, pretty?Â
A pleased, wistful sound. Â
I really wish you were here so I could show it to you right now. Â
A strident crash sounds in the background of the caller as paintbrushes overturn along with a color palette; garnet red and deep purple staining his floor a macabre color Rafayel cannot perceive in that moment. Â
Whoa, now thatâs gonna leave a mess from the sounds of it. Â
Whatever, Iâll clean it up later once I get my sight back. Â
The point is, cutie, Iâll share a snap of the completed painting with you once itâs done. Â
Be prepared to be absolutely blown. So dazzled you fall head over heels in love with me.Â
And then perhaps... return, if you like it and me enough. Â
His sigh is steeped in mild vexation. Â
Waiting hurts. Â
Having you not remember our time together, in every lifetime we meet, hurts. It really is all your fault, you know. Â
A soft, disgruntled moue you can hear within his words. Â
But I hope, in our next life, we donât cross paths. Â
That way, you wonât be forced to sacrifice yourself for my sake, ever again, you silly girl. Â
A throttled sound; it almost sounds like a wretched moan of pain. Â
I donât want our bond to shackle you down anymore so I think... Iâll let you go now. Â
A human like you far suits the sun, not being saddled down below within turbulent seas.Â
So, this will be our final farewell now.Â
The words nearly scraped free of his throat on a rasped sound. Â
Goodbye, my beloved bride.Â
I lovedâÂ
Beep. Your message has been recorded and sent. Â

TW: very brief traumatic remembrance of your demiseÂ
Hi hi! Youâve reached the ever-diligent Miss Hunterâs voicemail. Iâm probably out on a mission right now so Iâm unable to respond but Iâll get back to you ASAP if you drop me a message instead! Â
A soft chuckle warms the air in fond recollection to hear your voice. The knot of Calebâs brow furrowing deeper as he tries to imprint that cheery voice into his skull to overwrite the sounds of your pained screams still knelling within his ears. Â
Before he clears his throat to begin. Â
Hello to you too, pipsqueak. Â
Itâs your 25th birthday today and I thought Iâd record this little memento for us.Â
Happy Birthday, my tiny hurricane of disaster. I really miss you, you know, even if you donât seem to. Â
He chuckles in resignation.Â
I shouldâve let you bother me more often if I knew you were going to be this terrible at keeping in touch with your best friend later. Â
We really didnât have much time together once I returned from my posting abroad. Work kept you so busy. Â
I shouldâve scolded you more often about taking appropriate breaks in between missions. God. Â
A gentle laugh resounds on the other end of the line.Â
Reprimanding you like a dad used to be Zayneâs job among us three, not mine. Â
The tiniest of fractures slip into his voice.Â
Anyway, Iâve kept to my side of the bargain we made while I was away from Linkon; to leave you regular voice messages about my day and I guess the habitâs just... stuck. Â
I visited the grocery store earlier to shop for ingredients to whip up your favourite parmesan risotto tonight. Â
It was almost like you were with me, you know. Â
With each item I passed by; from the strawberries you love to inhale to your favourite cola displayed, front and center, within their fridge. I almost picked one up for you before IâÂ
He visibly halts himself, his breathing somewhat erratic. Before he resumes once more.Â
That nice kid youâre friendly with was manning the counter today and he recognized me almost instantly. All thanks to being towed around the Supermart with you, no doubt.Â
He even gave me a nice discount on the items when I told him I was whipping up a birthday dinner for you. Â
A short pause.Â
The risotto was pretty good, if I do say so myself. I wish you couldâve tasted it too. Â
Sorry I didnât bake a birthday cake for you this year because itâs just me in the house now.Â
I donât have a certain cute girl, with a crazy sweet tooth, to eat it with me and you know Iâm not really fond of sweets. Â
His voice drops into a hushed sound, wrought with emotion.Â
Time flew by so fast. It seems like only yesterday when we were both kids, huddled around a coffee table with you trying your best to blow out the candles on the cake Grandma baked for us on your birthday.
He laughs softly.
You had a difficult time growing up because of your heart but you were always so brave. Â
I wish I couldâve spoiled you more often. If only I knew then that our time together would be so short. Â
His voice breaks into a slight tremor. Â
Your Caleb really misses you... every day of my excruciating life.Â
But... I hope that now... wherever you are, you arenât in pain anymore.Â
If there is a life after this one, I hope you let me find you in it, too.Â
I love you, little spitfire. Â
End of voice message.Â

TW: space travel, personal logging of a journey, self-imposed isolation and neglect
Transcript:
Hi there, youâve reached my voicemail as Iâm unable to attend your call at the moment. Leave a message after the beep and Iâll be sure to get back to you soon!Â
Hi to you too, angel. Â
Itâs been a while since Iâve left you a message, hasnât it? Â
Iâm sorry, Iâve been facing some turbulence anomalies ever since my ship hit the Bodeâs galaxy so Iâve been a bit occupied. Â
Where were we last time? Â
Ah, I told you how Jeremiahâs shop has been thriving on Earth lately, because I remembered you saying you wanted to know how he was doing the last time we spoke. Â
You never got the chance to see for yourself after. Â
He pauses. Â
I didnât want to tell you at the time because you and Jeremiah really seemed to be growing close as friends and that bothered me. Â
Forgive me?Â
A shift of gears sounds within the quiet interior of the spaceship as Xavier adjusts a few controls. Â
I know these logs will never reach you but I still want to talk to you about our journey. Â
I never... Â
His voice drops; the sliver of a whisper. Â
got to show you this small planet I found while out on my travels, a long time ago. I named it Uluru. Itâs a red rock planet, you see. Â
I told you about it once and you said youâd really like to go see it someday. âXavierâs own planet,â you said. Â
I think you were teasing me then. But I wanted to tell you, itâs not just Xavierâs planet but âXavier and MCâs little planetâ. Â
I didnât have the chance to show it to you while you were stillâÂ
A violent catch of breath followed by a soft curse, cleaves through the quiet.Â
A low exhale before that quiet voice picks up once more.Â
Uluru is reaching the end of its life soon after all these lightyears and I wanted to go together with you to see our planet one last time before it died. Â
As for what Iâll do after... Â
A pause and a thoughtful hum, follows.Â
I think Iâll stay there once Iâve witnessed its demise. Â
Earth no longer has any springs for me to return to now that youâre gone and Philos â well I canât return to that place anymore. Â
So, I think Iâll stay, among the ruins of the place that was supposed to be our home. Â
With you.Â

Monster!Tim Coraline au part 3
I had more thoughts on the au from here and here.
First off, It's called Hungry Monster Tim au unless and until I come up with a better name.
That's the tag that will help you find related content. I titled the post the way I did so that people who found the au before it had a name could recognize it. I'm hoping this will minimize confusion.
...
Now, I figure I'll talk a bit about how others view Tim.
The most of the earlier additions to the Batfam have mostly interacted with Tim in Emotional Support Tim mode.
Emotional Support Tim is pleasant and comforting. He is not overly exuberant and joyful in a way that would grate on fresh grief. He is also not joyless in a way that might make a hero feel obligated to worry about him. He is gentle and competent. His patience seems nearly endless. He can tolerate both being coddled and being leaned on. He can tolerate both being clung to and pushed away. He can tolerate switching back and forth at unpredictable intervals.
Tim approached Nightwing in his standard state of "tired, low on patience, and possibly about to do something stupid," once before Tim realized he was also grief-stricken and in no fit state to get Batman under control. He might have an inkling that Emotional Support Tim is an act, or he might just think Tim was having a bad day.
Bruce thinks Emotional Support Tim is what Tim is actually like. By the time Bruce was functional enough to not need so much managing, he'd gotten attached enough to the facade for Tim to have concerns about dropping it.
Alfred can tell that Tim is putting on a facade. He can tell that the role Tim has taken on is wearing on him. He doesn't like it. He feels guilty for allowing it to continue. He can't bring himself to put a stop to it when it's keeping his adoptive son alive.
Barbara initially meets Emotional Support Tim, immediately clocks the act, and pulls him aside to make sure there isn't something sinister afoot. Babs has reservations about every aspect of Tim's involvement, but agrees that something had to be done about Bruce. She lets him carry on for now, but she's ready to pull the plug if it seems like it's getting too much for him. She insists that Tim drop the act when it's just the two of them.
Babs doesn't know about the supernatural stuff specifically, but she knows there's more going on with Tim than what she knows about. She may learn that he has some hereditary health stuff that requires him to be extra careful about his food intake. She makes a point to not be weird about it because people being weird about her wheelchair annoys the crap out of her.
I like to imagine that Babs and Tim have a certain amount of solidarity over being the sensible ones who keep all these unhinged, dramatic bitches in line. They also have solidarity over ignoring the fact that they are just as dramatic and unhinged as the rest of the Bats.
Steph meets Tim in Regular Tim mode because Bruce isn't with him. Instead of trying to discourage Spoiler, he introduces her to Babs. Steph knows Tim as a tired smartass who kind of always seems like he's a bit hangry and trying not to take it out on anyone, but apparently he's just like that.
They don't date, but do become friends. Part of this is because grouchy, eternally hungry, constantly done-with-this-shit Tim isn't attractive to Steph but is kind of hilarious. Part of it is because Babs points out that there is no possible timeline where the kind of power imbalance from only one member of a couple knowing the other's secret identity doesn't turn toxic.
When Steph eventually encounters Emotional Support Tim, it creeps her out. She uses the term "pod person" when asking what the heck that was.
Steph's disastrous stint as Robin doesn't happen because she's already got her own thing going. She already has a mentor and appropriate protective gear. Babs and Steph actually get along better because they start their mentorship as Oracle and Spoiler without any of the complicated emotions of taking up a mantle.
I like Steph as Spoiler the best because it always seemed a little messed up to shove someone who already had their own original Identity into two legacy mantles. Let her do her own thing. She doesn't need to be a successor to Babs or Dick when she's already the OG Steph. Instead of giving her the Robin gear or the Batgirl gear, get her some upgraded, Bat-quality Spoiler gear.
Steph doesn't start a gang war or fake her death in this timeline, because the circumstances that caused it do not exist here.
Jason initially encounters Tim in Feral Cryptid mode, then writes that off as a fever dream after waking up to Emotional Support Tim. Once free of the Lazarus parasite, Jason makes it his mission to be a good big brother to Tim. Tim seemed a little stand-offish at first, but warmed up to him. (As soon as Tim realized that food was part of Jason's love language, he rearranged his meal plan to let Jason feed him without triggering supernatural problems with his metabolism.)
Jason eventually manages to earn Tim's trust enough to meet and get to know Regular Tim. Jason is both honored and concerned. Putting on such an extensive facade for the comfort of others has got to be exhausting, and Tim seems so worn down underneath it. Well, he doesn't have to do it for Jason anymore. Jason will happily hang out with and support any version of Tim.
When Damian shows up, he mostly sees Emotional Support Tim. Then he starts trying to kill him. Eventually, Tim's patience with the pint-sized murderer wears thin (possibly due to Damian hitting a PTSD trigger), and Tim goes Feral Cryptid mode. This freaks Damian out. There is no video evidence (which the rest of the Bats assume to be because Damian tampered with the security system in an attempt to get away with murder).
It doesn't happen again.
Tim doesn't bust out his powers or cryptid form against Damian again, but now that he's seen it, Damian sometimes sees traces of Feral Cryptid Tim lurking below the surface. Various little things he'd ignored that hadn't seemed significant on their own now seem to stem from the nature of what lurks inside the human skin.
Damian stops the murder attempts early. It's not because of ethics (which will take time to learn). Itâs because he has no idea how to kill whatever sort of unearthly thing Tim is, and he recognizes how unwise it would be to continue attacking something he cannot kill. For now, Tim seems content to leave him be whenever he's not directly under assault. Damian doesn't want to risk becoming enough of a pest to be worth the effort of swatting.
...
I also had thoughts about Tim's post-Robin period.
When Tim goes on his quest to retrieve Bruce from the time stream, he doesn't take the Red Robin suit. He's going to be outside of the Bats' scrutiny, so he gears up with a suit and equipment he'd secretly made with his supernatural nature in mind. It's got Bat-standard armor and padding, but modified to accommodate a bit of form shifting without compromising protection. It's got a patchwork thing going on.
Tim sewed it himself, which allows him to manipulate it. It's also got buttons sewn in strategic locations to eliminate blindspots. (Taking down the beldam gave him the ability to control things he made and see through buttons he sewed).
His utility pouches are full of both Bat-standard equipment and things relevant to Tim's abilities. Also, he makes his pockets bigger on the inside, so he can carry a lot.
Tim isn't around the other Bats, so he's not being Emotional Support Tim. He's not using the minor illusion powers he got from the beldam to make himself look pleasant. He only makes the effort to be comforting when dealing with victims. He's just being the semi-feral scrungly dude he is.
...
Tim keeps in touch with Jason, Babs, and Steph while he's off on his quest to find Bruce. He occasionally pitches in with stuff that can be done from a distance.
Tim didn't say that Bruce was still alive before he had evidence. It's not because this version managed to predict that they wouldn't believe him, but rather because he thought he might have to do some supernatural stuff to get him back and didn't want witnesses. He just told the other Bats he needed to investigate something and would tell them more once he had figured out enough to know what to tell them.
This means that the other heroes don't think he's crazy, and Tim can use hero resources for his investigation.
I haven't decided yet if Tim will interact with the League of Assassins at all. On the one hand, I think this Tim might not need to work with them. On the other hand, Hungry Monster Tim terrorizing the League of Assassins and fighting the Lazarus Pit would be funny. Maybe Ras doesn't try to recruit him. Maybe Tim just shows up, fights the Lazarus Pit, and leaves without explaining anything to anyone.
Either way, I think that Tim is pretty much done with keeping up the Emotional Support Tim facade by the time he comes home after saving Bruce. It's been long enough to justify the change.
Babs, Jason, and Steph are happy for Tim because they can see how much better he's doing without the added strain of keeping up the act. They are also glad that he feels comfortable enough to just be himself.
Bruce and Dick are more in the horrified/concerned neighborhood because, from their perspective, Tim started off gentle-natured and glowing with health, got fired from Robin, disappeared for a while, and came back gaunt and world-weary.
...
I'm thinking about whether or not Tim should tell Babs, Jason, and Steph about the supernatural stuff he's got going on.
It would have come out at some point. If he tries to keep it secret forever, you can bet some kind of dramatic, high-stakes threat would force the reveal. That's just how the Bats' lives are.
What I am debating with myself is whether or not to have Tim choose to share a secret he's been keeping for as long as he can remember for fear of the danger discovery might bring with the people he trusts most without something forcing his hand.
If he does, I think he would tell Jason first. Jason has seen that side of him, and Tim allowed him to think it was a nightmare. Tim wouldn't want to risk Jason hearing about it from someone else. Tim would probably be scared. He doesn't know if Jason will still like him once he knows that Tim really is the Monster from his nightmare. He doesn't know if Jason will forgive him for lying about it.
I think this would happen after Tim comes back to Gotham after saving Bruce.

Updated OMITB S4 Killer Theory
After watching this week's episode I have a new theory for who killed Sazz. There are some plot holes proving otherwise but for now this is what is sticking with me the most. I think it also ties some of these storylines together. I'm putting this all under a spoiler tag just in case since it hasn't been a full day yet.
I think Bev is actually Dudenoff. From what we know so far, Dudenoff is rarely ever home and is currently in Portugal. Bev living and working in Los Angeles means that she could go back and forth collecting rent, hire someone to do so, or just have it deposited directly. Maybe she inherited one of the apartments, saw an opportunity for the others and took it. Plus it's a nice side hustle that can help to fund her film projects.
The mysterious person in the group with their face scratched out could very well be Helga. Vince said that Helga was the wrong type of weirdo and Rudy, Inez, and Ana were all trying to paint her as mentally ill and paranoid. I think we can assume she's not dead since we heard her on the radio, but she is clearly in hiding meaning she didn't leave the West Tower on her own accord. I think she uncovered a secret about Dudenoff or whatever other crime these Westies are into and was going to tell Charles so he could expose it on the podcast.
Sazz was digging around searching for clues before she was killed, even going so far as to discover that someone was watching Charles and gaining access to the code for the Dudenoff apartment. This season has been playing around a lot with the concept of stunt doubles, twins, and actors portraying actors. What if Sazz bore a strong resemblance to Helga and was successfully able to pass as her which is how she got entry to the Dudenoff apartment? If the theory that Helga was going to snitch is correct, maybe during the night of the party one of the Westies looked out the window, saw Sazz in Charles' apartment and thought she was Helga and killed her to keep her from telling?
If Bev is Dudenoff there is a possibility that she was in attendance at the party at the end of season 3 and was also in town to collect the rent owed by the Westies. Maybe at the party she saw Sazz and because of the Sazz/Helga lookalike theory thought Helga was in disguise to get close to Charles. Having her side hustle exposed would lose her money and with how she hounded the trio to sign over their movie rights she sounds like she's struggling financially. In episode 4, the actors are referred to as faces because there's a dynamic where stunt people don't get recognition for their work and aren't recognized outside of the work that they do. At the party when they discuss the wine Charles has upstairs, Bev could have overheard that Sazz was going up to get it and saw that as her chance to strike. As Dudenoff it would be easy to run over to the apartment she owns and gain access to get the job done. Plus we now know she knows how to handle a gun after she is seen holding the trio at gunpoint at the end of the episode.
The question remains whether Sazz was the intended victim or Charles and I'm still going to go with Sazz for now. I know there's the whole "Everybody hates Charles" agenda but he's basically a homebody so I doubt there would be enough interactions over time for someone to actually hate him. The only other reason is that a family member of one of the victims in the podcast or the killers is mad at him for profiting off of their death like what the bartender said at Concussions.
So this is where I'm at right now theory wise. There is still plenty of time to change that because we have 6 episodes left. I know there's so much more to be discovered so I can't wait to see what direction the show will take over the next few episodes.

Tangent and Instance thoughts/my Tangent theory. Spoilers for my two friends I just got into exocolonist; wait 'til you've seen the whole women's wrongs plot and then come back. @dillypillars I'm tagging you since you asked to hear my Instance thoughts.
Tangent is an abused child. Before anything else, before she's an amoral scientist or a workaholic genius, she's an abused child.
She's also brilliant. She is capable, at nine years old, of sometimes, if she overstretches herself, gives up even the little sleep she still needs with her augment, producing results on the level of an adult scientist, a habit which becomes lifelong and eventually kills her.
The only praise she cares about is Instance's, and overstretching herself like that is the only way to get that. She's taken on responsibilities most adults spend years of dedicated training to get ready for, as a preteen.
She's isolated from her peer group. In the bar arc, Dys outright tells you that since she started her gene therapies with Instance, she's thought herself smarter and better than her peers to the point that the only ones who try to keep in touch with her are Marz (who's immune to anything Tangent might say to push her away) and maybe Sol (who, if they tried to keep up with Tangent aboard the ship, is also a nerdy science kid, although not (yet) on the same level).
That her isolation is because she thinks she's smart and mature for her age (because she's being held to adult expectations and sometimes succeeding) doesn't make it any less isolation.
Instance encourages this isolation. Instance sometimes even orders it (there's a line when you approach Tangent in late-game where she's like "Instance says I'm not to be distracted by visitors").
Instance also tramples her sense of scientific ethics. Tangent comes to Sol about the engineered plague with ethical concerns about deploying it, but she's not going into that conversation with an open mind at all. She wants her friend and peer to tell her everything is alright; if Sol instead echoes her ethical concerns back to her (or comes at her with new ones), she throws up the same defenses and excuses about how she would do anything for Instance (đŠđŠđŠ) that she's doubtless used to suppress those concerns for herself before.
As an aside, I also don't buy that Instance didn't start research on the Engineered Plague until ordered to do so by Lum. Tangent has mad scientist "this could change everything" moments years before in the Strato colony, when you're researching the Shimmer. It might not have been a research priority before Lum, but I don't think the evidence supports Instance not having considered inventing bioweapons to exterminate inconvenient Vertumnan species.
Then there's the epilogue; I've never seen Tangent keep the chief engineer job for more than a year despite everything Instance has done to groom her for the position (wording intentional). She's put aside a lot of her own wants and ambitions to fulfill Instance's goal of having a worthy successor, and then without Instance she realizes she doesn't even want it. If she almost built the plague, that experience is a life-defining trauma for her. She wasn't even 18 yet when she worked on that, but she trusted Instance to know what's best, did as she asked, and suffered a life-defining trauma from the moral dissonance.
One of the most glaring "something is wrong here" moments for me was one of Tangent's colony dialogue blurbs when she was like "only Instance truly respects me," she says to Sol, who she is dating at the time.
I think on some level she really believes that. There's probably some cognitive dissonance between recognizing what she has with a Sol who's approaching her on her level, for the most part, and what she has to believe for Instance (which is what she says out loud), but she navigates that anyway.
At the risk of running off even further into unpopular opinion territory, I think Tangent and Instance's dynamic is actually the better depiction of abuse in Exocolonist (which is surprising, because it's not mentioned in the game's content warnings at all). Anemone and Vace's relationship is a power fantasy of being a bystander to an abusive relationship; you catch Anemone when her heavily-armed, hyper-possessive boyfriend with anger issues is giving her the silent treatment once, tell her she deserves better than that, and she's like "you know what, you're right, I do!" and leaves him and everything is good. Tangent's is more realistic. You might not even see it unless you really focus and look. Sol doesn't see it, across multiple timelines, even if they're dating Tangent in some of them. There's nothing you can do about it; intervening even to echo thoughts she's brought to you just pushes her away. Tangent is getting an emotional need met there that she doesn't think she could get anywhere else. That's more often what it's like.

*BELOW THE CUT THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR S2 EP 8: TRUTH AND CONSEQUENCES*
A/N: Happy Valentine's Day, babes! I'm hitting two mynocks with one stone: writing something short and sweet for my favorite Batcher and processing my emotions over [redacted].
Description: Tech x Fem!Reader Batcher, semi-established relationship (there's an unspoken thing *wink*) | Warnings: none, hurt+comfort fluff | Word count: 804 | Gif credit: user dreamswithghosts

Imagine being unable to sleep, upset by Echo's departure, and turning to Tech for comfort
The ship was stuffy. Your mind was full. The future was uncertain. It was the perfect mixture of reasons to be restless.
You'd removed the top half of your blacks and tied it around your waist, putting on a tank top in hopes of cooling down. Sitting on the lowered ramp of The Marauder, you stared into the misty night sky, feeling trapped by the stale silence. Your eyes began to sting, emotions starting to overcome you. How could so much have changed so quickly?
The sound of footsteps pulled you from your troubled thoughts, and you didn't have to turn around to know who approached. The rapid tapping of gloved fingers on a datapad was enough for you to recognize him.
"You are unable to sleep," Tech says.
It wasn't a question. He'd just stated it as a fact, as he did with most things.
"Not really," you answer, quickly wiping at your eyes.
"I suspect there is a reason," he begins, sitting down beside you, "Would it ease your mind if you shared your concerns with me?"
Your heart skipped at the prospect, and at how near he was.
"I'll be alright, really," you hesitate, trying to compose yourself.
"The tension in your voice and your constrained body language suggests otherwise," he replies, putting away his datapad.
You can't help but chuckle, "Nothing gets past you, does it?"
"Not really," he parrots your words. He removes his helmet and puts it aside. You're surprised to see he's smiling ever-so-slightly.
You sigh, trying put your many thoughts into words. "We've all lost so much. After all our fighting and all our running, sometimes I've wondered what it was all for. But I thought as long as we stayed together, things would be alright. We would figure it out because together we had hope. Now, I'm afraid that we've lost it."
Tech pushes up his goggles before responding.
"I know it may seem that way, but Echo did not leave because he had no hope," he offers, "He believes that there are better ways apart from this squad that he can help preserve hope, and if he is successful, pass it on to others."
"I thought we were already doing that," you reply, shaking your head, "I know we have to be careful, especially for Omega's sake, and we can't fight The Empire the same way others can, but I thought we were making some kind of difference."
"Echo's departure does not necessarily signify failure in our pursuits."
"But aren't we stronger together than apart?" you ask, looking to him.
Tech blinks slowly, visibly weighing your question. Surely he is bothered by all this too?
"Theoretically, yes. But our objections cannot change what has happened," he admits.
Your gaze falls back to your boots, shame setting in. How selfish you must sound. "You're right. I don't think less of Echo. Truly I don't," you say, holding your arms, "I just don't want to lose this squad, and I really don't want to lose..."
You were desperate to say it, but the word caught in your throat. Tears threaten to return. This is not how it was supposed to go. Squeezing your eyes shut, you bow your head, hoping he wouldn't see your entire façade crumbling.
You nearly jump as you feel his hand gently clasp your shoulder. You look up to see his soft brown eyes, full of warmth and understanding.
"I do not have plans to go any place where you cannot also be," he affirms, "And I intend to never make such plans."
A tear slips down your cheek as you choke back a sob. Whatever was left of your composure, he'd just destroyed it, and somehow it was the push you needed.
You lean over to rest your head on his chest. You hold your breath as you feel him tense up at the contact. Fear washes over you that you've gone too far, and you're about to sit up, but then he carefully wraps his arm around you, holding you close.
You purse your lips, trying not to grin. How long you had waited for this moment. Heart racing, you close your eyes and wish for time to stop. So many words had passed between you over the months, but now you could barely speak.
"Tech?" you breathe.
"Yes?"
"I never want to make those kinds of plans either," you say, relaxing into him more.
"It's settled then," he confirms, proceeding to rest his chin upon the top of your head.
It was settled. You knew with absolute certainty that this is where you wanted to be. You were stronger together, and no matter what became of the galaxy, together you and Tech would stay.

yes I've played Veilguard all day yes I will do so for more time, tomorrow is my errands day. ANYWAY. This one does legit have spoilers beyond me fucking around, and I have spoiler tagged it as well, so you've been EXTENSIVELY warned.
Rook is not interested in whether Solas and Mythal were fucking. I, however, think they were.
Treviso quests were very fun and not too difficult!
Taash's companion quest, also very easy and enjoyable!
I have bought gifts for all companions except Harding (more later) because I don't know where the fuck the Black Emporium is. Dock Town baby I'm sorry. Anyway I'm a good team leader.
I didn't realize the Hall of Valor wasn't like, a real quest and just consists of Isabela, yelling NEVE GALLUS, THE WINTER FROM TEVINTER while you fight darkspawn. This rules and I think I'll go there later after Weisshaupt.
Morrigan has the memories of Mythal. I am putting off continuing this until I've done all the stupid questions in the stupid terrible Hossberg Wetlands but also, I recognize this might be blasphemy, but Morrigan babe you wish you were Neve Gallus The Winter From Tevinter. I hate to pit two bad bitches against each other which is why I'm doing this, because Morrigan seems to think she is a bad bitch and it's like girl I'm a nobody from Nevarra, why are you out here in your Victoria's Secret Valentine's Day Sale getup cocking your hip at me in the crossroads. Are you trying to impress me? it is not working.
the Solas memories really did a fucking number on like, most of the team, but in particular Bellara and Harding are going THROUGH it. Bellara's doing a bit better because like, she's got a PhD in Dalish history (hilarious that Davrin is like yes I am Dalish but I don't care other than avoiding discrimination against elves; I get that, man) but Harding...oh honey. sorry for doing this as a big movie night in which your religion was disproven, it was revealed that the ancient elves corrupted and destroyed the titans and this is tied to blight, AND you learned that Solas knew all this the whole time and didn't say shit to you. And THEN I did Harding's second companion quest where the Oracle doesn't answer her questions and the codex at the end literally ends with her writing "how loudly can I scream without everyone hearing me." Anyway Harding please go to Taash's room, they look like they give incredible hugs, and just. have a good long cry on their unbelievably huge shoulder. You will feel better. I gotta go to the stupid-ass Hossberg Wetlands with two beautiful men who want to murder fuck each other. At least your musical theme is incredible and my bond with you is higher than with anyone else because I felt so bad for you and because no one else's companion quests unlock until later. I will find you that goddamn tree. maybe I won't though because, as you probably know, Dock Town's fucked.

just a little something i wrote after watching tbb 2x03. commander cody x fem!reader. it doesn't include spoilers per se, but i wouldn't read it unless you've seen the episode and i'll tag it to be safe. i might be interested in continuing this, but i'm not really sure yet.
But Not Lost
words: 1,221
summary: Your new life wasn't glamorous by any means, but it was better than serving the Empire. You just didn't expect such a potent reminder of the past to come waltzing through the doors of the cantina you worked at.
clone troopers masterlist
The Outer Rim had always been home to those that wanted to disappear but could never truly make it in Wild Space. It was where criminals and fugitives ran from those who wanted to create a more âcivilizedâ galaxy, and it was where the seeds of the rebellion were just starting to settle.
You were no exception to the rule, a former GAR official who never wanted to be part of anything but the Republic, who saw the dark shadow of the Empire start to grow and managed to get out before it was too late. You knew your name was probably on a list somewhere, and you couldnât exactly walk through Coruscant in broad daylight or knock on the door of a Senator, but you were unimportant enough that you could get by as a waitress in a cantina with a new name and a prepared story for anyone who asked where you were from.
Only one person from your old life knew where you were and how to contact you, and he was constantly traveling. You had worked closely with Captain Rex during your time in the GAR, and it had been a complete fluke that you ran into him again after you both began your new lives. You didnât contact each other often, but it was still nice to know that if you ever did need anything, you had someone who could help.
The door to the cantina opened and you saw someone step inside, but you hadnât really gotten a good look at them. âIâll be with you in a moment!â you called, wiping up a spill from before.
âTake your time,â the man said, and you could recognize that voice anywhere. You looked up to see the back of a clone trooperâs head as he took in the surroundings. His armor was mostly white with gray accents, but it lacked all the personal touches that the gray of the 104th battalion had on their armor. No, this was an imperial clone, likely one of higher rank due to the fact that he had any accents on his armor, rather than just the simple and stark white that the rest of the clone army had been forced to adopt.
Your entire body stiffened. Why was this man here? If he was here to take you in, why was he being so polite about it? What had you done here that put you on the Empireâs radar?
Trying not to seem like you were guilty of anything (if on the off chance he was not here to take you in you did not want to give him a reason to), you put the smile back on your face. âWhat can I help you with today?â you asked, and he turned around to face you.
âCan I get some water?â the clone asked, and you nodded.
So far it didnât seem like this was any kind of hostile visit. As much as you disliked the Empire, you were not one to deny a tired soldier a drink, so you nodded and grabbed a glass from behind the bar. It was as you leaned down that you caught sight of a recognizable scar around the manâs eye, and you tried to keep yourself calm as you handed the full glass of water to him, along with a small container of snacks that you usually put out on the tables.
You had only worked with the 212th a handful of times, but you could recognize Commander Cody anywhere. The men of the 501st used to tease you about your little crush on the marshal commander, something they were not wrong about. But instead of positive feelings and a tearful reunion, worry took hold of your body at the sight of him. You had always been content to imagine that Cody got out just as Rex did, that he was somewhere living in the shadows like you, but this just disproved it in the worst way. You looked closely at his armor, and you could even see what you thought was some of the outlines that he used to have, and it broke your heart that the individuality you loved so much had been stripped away from him.
It didnât seem like he had recognized you, so you took that as a blessing and continued to work around the cantina, stacking plates, preparing for the midday rush, and telling yourself to stop sneaking glances at Cody sitting at the bar. âIs the rest of your company here too?â you asked politely, hoping to get some more information out of him.
âNo, itâs just me,â he said.
âYouâre not lost, are you?â
He shook his head, the ghost of a smile crossing over his face. âI used to be, but not so much anymore. I could use directions to the nearest inn though.â
You nodded and directed him to the building three doors down, and he thanked you for the suggestion and asked for another glass of water. A coworker of yours had just arrived for work, so you just nodded and quickly filled the cup in front of him, still desperately hoping that he didn't recognize you. Now that you werenât alone in the cantina, you quickly ducked into the back room and pulled out your comlink, immediately putting in Rexâs frequency.
When the holo-image of your friend appeared, he had a worried expression on his face. âIs everything okay?â
âCody is here,â you said, head still reeling from the shock of it all.
Rexâs eyes widened. âDid he recognize you?â
You shook your head. âSo far I donât think so,â you said. âI asked if his entire company was here as well, and he said that he was alone, but not lost. It doesnât seem like heâs here to take me in, but it almost seems like too crazy to be a coincidence.â
Rex paused before responding. âIs he still here?â
âYes, and he asked me for directions to an inn, so I donât think heâs going anywhere.â
âIâm barely two systems away, Iâll be there as soon as I can. Do you still work in the same place?â You nodded, and Rex continued to speak. âFrom what you said he doesnât seem hostile, and I wouldnât have put it past him to desert. Once the truth about the Empire comes out, I wouldnât have expected him to stay.â
âBut what about the chip?â you asked.
âI donât know,â Rex responded. âThatâs why Iâm on my way, I donât want to put you in any more danger than you are already.â
The comm cut out not long after, and you once again stepped into the main room of the cantina. Cody was still there, and you just watched him out of the corner of your eye as you attended to other things. The next time you looked over, he was gone, and you walked over to find a few credits on the table, along with a scribbled note on a spare napkin.
Thank you for your help.
It wasnât signed, and it didnât have your name on it, but you knew what it meant, and all you could do was hope that you would be able to see him again, in a situation where a more friendly reunion was on the table.

massive, rambly spoilers for the new WILTY christmas episode underneath
First thoughts after finishing: oboy, both Lee and David going THROUGH it. Bet Rob was feeling all good safe in his host chair.
The guests were Victoria Coren Mitchell (whee!), Naga Munchetty, Alex Brooker and Melvyn Hayes. I'll admit I had to look everybody's names up except VCM.
Alex Brooker's lie has been available as a clip on the BBC website for a couple of days now, so nothing new there. Delighted by the fact that Victoria's (unbroken?) streak of guessing correctly on this show continues
So for me the show proper started with Victoria's card, which oh my god, holy shit, this was worth the wait.
David looks like he wants to sink into the floor, but for me, as Lee says: "If it helps in any way, I'm absolutely loving it."
I mean this is golden. Victoria starts trying to explain David's underwear philosophy, before turning to David and checking if she's not you know, revealing too much information on national television. David who has already spent the last few minutes looking like this is his worst nightmare, reassures her that no worries, "this is dreadful". All the while Lee is clapping his hands delightedly.
(BONUS Sweet moment!. Naga patting David on the shoulder, in an attempt at reassurement, cringing too hard to be very reassuring)
I don't know who Melvyn Hayes is (I'm not British, so my bad I guess) but his small comments here and there really brought it up a notch. Could have been annoying but it was really funny.
Other nice quotes from this round:
Victoria (to David, having revealed much about his underwear habits): I'm so sorry. (Then she laughs a bit more)
David: thE biBLe AnD fifTy SHadEs oF grAy
Melvin Hayes: I'm excited! (everybody cracks up)
This was FINALLY the resolution of Lee's quest to find out what David wears underneath his clothes.
(If only I still wrote fanfiction, and if only I could ever manage to write RPF this would segment would surely inspire me. Just putting that out into the universe before going back to hiding beneath the covers)
Have some pictures of David going through it:
BONUS: Lee being a smug bastard
The Melvin Hayes story did very little for me, as previously mentioned, no clue who he was before this, and the people he mentions are people I've heard about before but also know very little. Glad everyone seems so delighted by it though.
To contrast the previous picture have a happy picture of David and Victoria being pleased by Melvin Hayes story
THIS IS MY (Feat. a Celebrity Guest whoohooo)
Yet another person I don't know who is, but Patti seemed famous and Lee was all over her which turned out to be quite funny.
Victoria's sounded familiar by any rate, like I heard it before. Delightful story anyhow, her delivery of "better still, you can be in it." killed me.
Naga with the slow reveal of it being Lee that they hadn't recognized. Wonderful! Lovely! No notes. It's great that the story wasn't true because then the digs at Lee, and the Jimmy whatshiface of it all just became the marks of a good liar
(looked it up, the guy's Jimmy Nail. An English singer-songwriter apperenly, according to google).
David used his versatile tool to make decent stomach growls. Colour me impresssed.
Last round is a classic Lee round, in which he gets an herculean task and we watch him try to reel it in. (Alex B turns out to be quite the generous laughter which is great.)
Tag yourself I'm Alex, losing it.
#wilty#would i lie to you#don't think I'm gonna tag the people let them be free#this was a long ass post#maybe i should reconsider getting a dreamwidth account#blasting out words like i'm Barry from hidey hide's whooper#(that will make sense if you see the ep)#possibly#mine

Guess who's back? Back again? Anons back! Tell a friend.
Lol sorry I'm once again back. The same anon who sent a bunch of questions about night life a while ago since I was rereading songbirds blood au. Soo uhm here's more
1. Mochi why does scar say in villainous thing that he has put his head in a werewolfs mouth??!?!?!?!?!? Scar mah dude u ok???? (Lowkey would wanna try it but I probably would leave the werewolfs mouth with a head đ)
2. Grian.Trans.Canon? (Or scar? Or maybe both???)
3. With the glyphs is there only one way to use them or could you possible make them a tattoo and still you them. Since they are then constantly touching the glyphs they could possible do the magic of a mage. If they had multiple glyphs he could mix the glyphs somehow.(like how Luz mixes the glyphs by drawing them with eachother but instead they do it with their â¨ď¸MINDâ¨ď¸)
4. Also I love the idea of papapulse. Like I imagine Pearl or grian (most likely grian:^P) and Impulse going full demon mode tl protect them. (I saw that you tagged "Parent impulseSV (Video Blogging RPF)" in troubke in the dead of nightđĽşđđ) Also is there different types of demons and what type of powers do they have?
5. In the fic "sitting in the garden at your feet" they have a whole picnic and all the adorableness. Do they go on more picnics frequently? (I really hope soo) I would guess they do since in villainous things they were also on their way to a picnic...but then yeah...poor birb tbh and poor scar
6. Have Ren and Martyn already have their wedding or are they still waiting? I wanna see treebark and I want to see mumbo ask grian go with him as his plus one to the wedding<3
(Though treebark owns my heart, Grumbo will always win) Don't talk about scarian I've never left the desert and don't plan to eitherđ
7. Okay soo in the fic "weight of living" there was this one scene where etho stared at grian. Here's the quote: "Etho eyes him for a moment, his gaze unreadable as he does so. It leaves Grian with chills. Weird."
Is it possible that etho is a Watcher? I'm mean  he is definitely not human(or maybe he is an immortal human?) Etho may recognize grian, either as an old Watcher or a new Watcher to be made. Or maybe etho just thinks it is weird to see scar with grian(A HUMAN) The last one is more logical <:^)
8. On that note with Etho. You never confirm nor deny if grian is the "lost watcher" but what if I were to ask you if EFFO is the lost Watcher. I don't have proof but-...yeah idk
Wait wait just had another thought what if Pearl is the Watcher???? When the dream bugs ate her dreams there was a purple mist! Huh huh gotcha!/silly this is purely a jokeđ¤Ł
9. Will we see a bad boy grian phase or possibly a drag queen phaseđĽşđđ. Since it often mention that grian was a dare devil(still is:^P) or did grian have such phases. One of my friends is kinda a dare devil and he did drag once and I feel since grian might be the same there...
10. What did Scott do with the shard? Did he just entirely get rid of it? Also is Scott pure evil or broken. Maybe with the lost of his brother(Xornoth) did he turn evil or was evil just in his genes?
Those are all the questions and theories for now thank you for listing to my literal brain rot<3
This time it was numbered
(There will possible be more to come>:^] )
YIPPEE WELCOME BACK NONNIE :D
see me rubbing my paws together with a big grin >:3c no apologies needed !!!! I love questions hehe. as always, I can't answer everything clearly, because of spoilers but I'll certainly answer as much as I can!
1- WHEEZE scar just feels like the kinda guy to me to stick his head into the mouth of a werewolf for fun, y'know? he'd try it once just to see what would happen (and I mean, he's got no reason to fear dying, all things considered LOL)
2- GRIAN TRANS CANON !! honestly, just operate under the assumption that any grian I write is trans JFGDHFKKJDFG it's my comfort character and I get to project on him /silly (no trans scar though </3)
3- WAUG OKAY -- I've answered this kind of question before but for the life of me I can't find it D: I'm gonna keep searching for it, and when I find it I'll reblog this with that information mjfdhkfghfjg I don't wanna contradict myself LMAO
4- PAPAPULSE MY BELOVED đĽşI really wanna write more with him ueueue. I actually haven't done much world building for sb!demons but I'm going to say that yes, there are different types of demons! and they all have a wide range of different abilities :3
5- they def go on picnics yeah!!! I think it becomes one of grian's default methods to drag mumbo out of the manor when he can <33
6- ren and martyn haven't had their wedding yet :3 I actually hadn't thought about when their wedding would take place but ;w; oh that gives me some ideas....
7- etho isn't a watcher! the current lore is well. no one really knows what etho is. except maybe bdubs and joel. but their lips are Sealed (he's not the lost watcher either I'm afraid </3)
9- so currently I don't have any plans for a bad boy or drag queen phase to pop up in the story (though that could change, if any ideas come up) but they were certainly things he did when he was wayyy younger
10- what scott did with the shard hm? he broke it :) and I'm afraid evil is just in his genes unfortunately </3
hehe thank you for your questions!! :D

I wish so much that I could fully enjoy totk but I am struggling so much. Idk why some of the decisions for the game are the way they are. I can't help but be critical given how important the series and botw are to me.
I feel like the game is struggling to have its own identity. I feel like some creature has wormed its way into botw's skin and is wearing it poorly.
(So far I've played through the Gerudo and Rito story quests. What I've written here though is mostly about the world and direction. I just need to get some of these thoughts out. There are spoilers.)
The three main criticisms people had with botw were the story, weapon durability, and dungeons- and man so far in totk these things have only been worse. (The boss fights are incredible though)
The framerate drops whenever I use ultrahand, and combined with my left joycon drifting it makes trying to use the new mechanic difficult to the point that I will avoid it to do something else.
Some of the game does feel like mashed up dlc ideas. I would have preferred them to be dlc even. If the Zelda devs wanted to tell this story or make a game with these mechanics I wish they would have made an entirely new game instead of using botw.
So far totk has no through-lines between itself and botw. No one has mentioned the Champions, only a single npc has talked about the Calamity, no one has mentioned Calamity Ganon or the divine beasts Link calmed, and only a few people recognize Link himself. The champion successors I've met haven't spoken of the Champions or their divine beasts which is strange given how they spoke of them in botw, and at most have only referred to Link having been there in the past as, "when you helped us" without any specifics as to what. I've done all the side quests in botw and to have the people I helped call Link a stranger is saddening. It's even more pronounced in Hateno. I bought a house there. I helped its people. And the house no longer has Link's name by the door and Hateno's people remark at how Link is a new face in town. Didn't I live there? Given how some of the kids have grown it's probably been around 4 years since botw. Where has Link been in that time for the people to forget him? In Kakariko Cottla says she can't talk to me because she isn't supposed to talk with strangers. We've played tag together. I cooked meals with her sister. It's sad. In botw we spent the whole time collecting Link's memories and growing attached to the land only to have the land forget us. I feel like it's a disgrace to all of the time and joy players put in and found in botw, and to botw's story- to have none of that matter.
What happened to the Divine Beasts and the Sheikah shrines and the slate? Further, some important npcs from botw are just gone without explanation.
If the events of botw are so irrelevant then why use the same world and characters? I understand it's a way to save time and resources but this game took 6 years to make past botw. I would have preferred a new world and princess/hero entirely so I could go into it as a fresh experience. Instead, it feels like what made botw important was swept away, and the map and characters are only being used as an empty husk, like setpieces. Majora's Mask being a sequel with reused assets worked because in Termina there was no reason for anyone to know Link, and him traveling to find Navi made sense, and the look-alike characters are different people. In botw, there is no reason for no one to recognize Link or his achievements. He is the Hero of Hyrule for that world and it's people. He freed the divine beasts and put an end to the multiple local disasters they were causing, yet none of that is acknowledged and it sticks out like a sore. (I'm really really hoping that Sidon talks about Mipha and the constant rain caused by Vah Ruta because how could he not? That's his sister! Yunobo saw Daruk's spirit in botw so I'm hoping he says something of the Champions. I'm really hoping.)
I enjoyed exploring botw's world because there were always koroks and shrines to collect. I could wander knowing there was something in store to find. The world never felt too big or empty for this reason, and the solitude made sense because of the Calamity. In totk the number of shrines and koroks has been greatly reduced (edit: there are more shrines and just as many koroks as in botw. It just seems I'm having difficulty finding them ashfsjdf.) I know the overworld already so there not being a reward for exploring gives me no incentive to. The lack of shrines and the cutscenes required to go through to use the towers is another hindrance on exploration and quests. I can't get spontaneously sidetracked because there's no nearby place to warp back to, and I know how far I'll have to walk to get there. Traveling can feel like a chore instead of something enjoyable. It feels like the overworld has been stripped.
The world wasn't made for the new mechanics either, and so the areas to use them in are all tacked on as monster camps or fallen ruins, instead of a natural part of the landscape.
The new map content, the Sky and Depths, would have been better being condensed. They don't fit within the scope of botw's map. The Sky Islands so far don't take up much space and are significantly less important than I hoped they would be. The Depths is a fun concept and I enjoy the restrictions it puts on players, with the soft cap and kinda rougelite aspect while you're in the early game, but it's way too big, very repetitive, and there's not much point to exploring once you know what it's about. Both the Sky and the Depths would have benefitted by being more carefully thought out, concise, areas and suffer from having to fit the scope of botw's map. The Depths has poes and zonite to collect, but these things come in such huge quantities and require even huger quantities of to be useful that it feels grindy. I need 3 zonite ore for one crystalized ore, 100 crystalized ore for one fuel charge. There are three charges in one canister, of 8. That's 7,200 zonite ore like wtf. How is this supposed to be achievable? So far I haven't needed to use the vehicles all that often so it's not particularly useful atm either. The amount of cross-trading currency collectibles is overbearing. For some time I had no idea what any of them were used for so I didn't know what the point was in collecting them. Bubulgems, zonite ore, large zonite ore, poes, crystalized charges, large crystalized charges- too many. Please condense some of them.
Gone are all the very cool weapon designs, replaced in favor of the new fuse mechanic and endlessly scrolling through materials to find the right thing to attach.
The memories and the story in that aspect are still passive. Even more so.
We're all familiar with the Zelda formula- totk now follows the botw formula. Plateau area, back and forth fetch quests to upgrade your abilities, four main story beat locations, memories, and then the open world for players to tackle freely. I'm really hoping there is more. There has to be because the Sky and Depths haven't been used in the main story beats so far. In botw you could go anywhere and have everything to do in a given location immediately assessable to play through, but in totk there are things locked by progression. However, it's awkward because you aren't told precisely what's locked or why. I'm like- I went through the effort to get here but there isn't anything for me to do. I know there's something here! But I can't do anything yet and idk why or what I'm missing! and instead of building anticipation it just makes me frustrated. I'm not sure if what I'm missing is locked to progression or if there is something I've truly just missed.
So I have a feeling of having missed something important story/mechanic-wise when exploring, and then on the other hand I have the feeling of being very clearly shoehorned towards certain goals. Nearly all of the npcs have dialogue that leads you towards something. I don't feel like botw was ever this in-your-face about goals. The Calamity happened 100 years ago so the people have had time to adjust, while the Upheaval is happening now. It makes sense that the Upheaval would be much more pressing, I just wish the npcs would chat about something other than "go here, do this" once in a while. Like, I found Bolson, and instead of being greeted as a familiar face or getting to see Bolson in character, he just told me to go somewhere for a quest related thing. So many of the familiar characters are missing the quirky characterizations they had in botw that made them them.
With being shoehorned towards certain locations: many, many of the npcs want me to clear out monsters at Lurelin. So I went to Lurelin. At that point I'd only completed the quest in Gerudo and five shrines, yet the monsters I faced in Lurelin (and widely across the overworld) were black level monsters, which I was and still am nowhere near prepared for. Totk is either meant to be more difficult than botw or there is an issue with balancing. I've touched maybe 25 shrines and have lit a good number of lightroots, but haven't completed many, so maybe that's a factor into the enemy leveling? I also think there's a way for me to get help that I haven't found yet. Regardless, the enemy scaling across the world feels like it happened too quickly and I don't enjoy the npcs pushing me towards things my character isn't ready for. I feel like there should be more checks in place for this that determine the npc dialogue to the player's progress.
I haven't even talked about the story.
I know I'm being very critical with the game, and I wish I could just enjoy it. I need to stop trying to find botw in this game. And I should take a step back for a while too. I'm just disappointed.
The music and boss battles have been incredible! I hope there's more structured boss battles outside of the main four + ganon. Heck I even hope there's a boss gauntlet with a cool reward.
Just- yeah. So far I am not enjoying the new Zelda formula when it comes to totk. Botw worked for botw. totk looks and is structured too much like botw to feel like its own thing, and yet trying to play it like botw is just upsetting because it isn't.
Totk is a good game, but it's a bad sequel.
I hope the Zelda team returns to the old format sometime, or at least pulls forward some of the ideas. I miss the concise dungeons that take multiple play sessions to get through. I miss the tricky puzzles that make me feel smart for solving. I miss combat being a puzzle requiring certain items or learning boss phases and patterns (rather than sticking materials to your bow and taking a "just deal damage" based approach. I want to be closer to it.) I miss the worlds that were puzzles in and of themselves like Minish Cap or the Oracle games. I miss seeing a clearly marked spot on the wall or a tree in the way and knowing that I'll pick up an item that will help me here later. I like that there were clear solutions. The clues in botw and totk for progression are not as clear. And the botw open-world format is too large for concise puzzles like this. I enjoyed the open-ended way to combat and puzzles in botw, but I feel there should be space for both. No more ways to fenagle the physics or smack your way through obstacles. I want to see linear progression and long-form puzzles return to Zelda games, at least for the next one.
I'm hoping there's some plot twist or turn in gameplay that I haven't reached in totk yet. We'll seeeeee
#rays random ramblings#totk spoilers#totk#long post#sorry- I know the game just came out#I need to slow down with playing it#I hate being so critical with it#I just want to play and have fun but I can't stop thinking about what parts have let me down#given that it's supposed to be a sequel to botw#totk criticism

Chapter 1 - Lost in Time
King!Alfie Solomons x archaeologist!Reader
Summary: You are stuck in the past after you interfered with the events of history and missed your window to return homeâŚ
Warnings: injury, tension of all kinds, a tiny bit of reader description (of having long hair) and more of an implied description by supposed relation (you'll get what I mean or see the tags for spoilers), a long Tommy-Alfie interaction (yes, that's a warning), tenses might be messed up
Series masterlist â˘Â Next chapter
Oddly, the first thing you are aware of isn't the pain but the presence of someone else in the room with you. It is as if he can sense you waking up, his own eyes open from the light sleep he was lulled into as your own flatter open and widen in fright at the sight of him.
You gasp in pain as you try to sit up to put some distance between you, as if you could run away from this colossal screwup and pretend it never happened. You do not get far though, he reaches for you and helps you sit up.
"Careful, little dove," the king murmurs. His hands still under your bent knees and behind your back where he supported you to be able to move without tearing at the stitched-up wound.
It is as if time stopped, you are both frozen, just gazing at each other with fascination and disbelief.
He moves first, and with a featherlight caress, he brushes along your cheek with the back of his hand and it reminds you how he was holding you in his arms after you've been stabbed. Your thoughts only wander away for a second or two, then his palm envelops your nape and he leans closer, slowly, giving you time to pull away.
Your breathing gets erratic just as your heartbeat, which you can hear drumming in your ears. His lips barely brush against yours but the touch sets you on fire and it seems he feels the same way because you both move to pull the other closer.
He deepens the kiss, tangling his fingers into your period-typically long hair as you grab onto his shirt to keep him close. It's desperate and wild and you quickly get lightheaded so you have to pull away but you can tell he would chase after you if it wasn't for the doors bursting open with a shattering thud against the wall.
Two loud men enter the room, talking at the same time.
"I'm sorry, my lord. He wouldn't listen..."
"What in the hell do you think you're doing?!"
You flinch at the sudden yell of "Shut up!" coming from the king beside you, who still hasn't moved away. He sighs heavily and with a last longing glance at you, he turns to the intruders.
"Ollie," he addresses the younger man, "be a good boy and leave us." It looked like the boy wanted to argue, but he quickly shut his mouth in response to the stern look he received from the king.
"Oh, and tell the doctor she is awake." The king yells over at him as an afterthought.
Ollie exits in a hurry, shutting the door behind him, leaving you alone with King Solomons and the man you recognized as the recently crowned Thomas Shelby from the neighbouring kingdom.
"Tommy!" the king grumbles his name as a warning and a question.
"I came here to see how my cousin feels," he nods in your direction, "and to give her this."
Your eyes widen at the sight of your watch and Tommy doesn't hesitate to approach you after you silently asked for it by reaching out with both hands. You grab it as soon as it's close enough but he doesn't let it go, forcing you to look up at him and meet his gaze as he nods meaningfully, trying to let you know that he is well aware of what the object is and who or more likely what are you. When he gets a subtle nod as a reply, he lets it go.
While your thoughts run wild, you examine the watch and try to figure out how to avoid causing more damage. But the two kings start to argue over you.
"Your cousin?"
"Yes, Lady Gray is Polly's daughter." Came the calm answer to the accusative question.
"Polly's daughter? The one who died years ago after she and little Michael were kidnapped to be raised by the enemy so they can use them against you. That daughter?" King Solomons asked, with every word dripping a ridiculous amount of mocking scepticism.
"Yes, Alfie, that is exactly what I'm saying." He crosses his arms over his chest with a disapproving expression as he goes on. "Now, if you could behave like a proper royal and put some distance between you and the lady, that would be much appreciated."
Alfie huffs but doesn't argue with the request and moves to sit back in the chair beside your bed while Tommy takes a seat on the edge of the bed, putting himself between the two of you.
The following conversation between them is like watching an intense game play out, with all the quick back-and-forth of questions and answers as Alfie tries to catch Tommy with a lie.
"I precisely remember you telling me that she was dead. Would you care to explain this miraculous resurrection?"
"I thought she was dead. We only found her recently. And I did not want to subject her to the court, yours or mine, until she had a chance to settle down into the new circumstances."
"In that case, what was she doing here, on a ball among so many people?"
"She wanted to come with me. It was a masquerade ball, she could have remained unnoticed through the whole night..." For the first time, Tommy hesitates and you think he might have difficulty coming up with the rest of the answer but you realise it was very much deliberate as he continues. "I don't know what happened."
But you don't have time to fully calm down because his convincing performance put the attention directly back on you.
"Well, why don't we ask our little lady?" Alfie inquires as he turns to you, still not convinced but asking with the ulterior motive of finally hearing you speak.
They both look at you expectantly and for a moment you can't find your voice.
"I didn't mean to cause any trouble." The little panic in your tone is absolutely real, as you fear you might screw this up even more.
Alfie takes your hand in his, assuring you with a soothing tone that "It's alright, dove. You are not in trouble. Just tell us."
And you are pretty sure he means to tell him the truth about everything but you decide to go with your instinct and play the innocent girl card while actually trying not to lie. You had a feeling you couldn't deceive him, even if you wanted to.
You look at Tommy as you start. "I know I should have kept my distance but I just couldn't help it. After all the stories I've heard, I couldn't help my curiosity getting the better of me."
Alfie immediately asks "What stories?" but you just shrug, pretending to be shy and look away, hoping he would let that go and he does.
"And the man with the blade?" He interrogates you further, with his playful demeanour gone but you know his well-hidden anger is not directed at you.
"He was acting strangely," you say with a frown as you try to remember exactly what happened. "He bumped into me but didn't stop or even look my way. His attention was entirely aimed at you, in a very unsettling way and... I don't know... I didn't even realise what I was doing until I felt the pain and..." you are breathing hard as you relive the incident and you don't know what else to say so you look at Tommy but it seems he has nothing else to add.
Alfie just nods and you think that was it but he finds another hole in the story Tommy started.
"A man called after you from the crowd but he disappeared since then."
Thankfully Tommy replies for you. "He was there to protect her and when he failed, he came to find me. It just took time to get through your people."
'"Really?" Alfie's tone indicated doubt, in that mocking way of his that you were starting to get used to. "And why was he calling her another name? Isn't she supposed to be Anna?"
You can't help but smile at that. He was clever, not saying the name, your real name, and expecting Tommy to fail this test but you intervene, quickly turning back their gaze to you from their stare-down, saying your name like you are asking Alfie to confirm what he heard. He silently nods with narrowed eyes but his harsh look quickly melts as you smile at him and simply state, "It's my middle name, I prefer it now."
Tommy sighs, feigning annoyance at what you suspect to be relief, acting like he had had enough of the game and asks, "Are you done with the interrogation?"
"For now," Alfie concludes just as the doctor arrives.
You are examined again, thankfully in private but by the time he is done all your energy leaves you and you are fighting to stay awake. With the doctor done and reporting to the two kings, you had a minute to think.
You need to find out what Tommy knew and you even ask for him but he sees how exhausted you are so he assures you that there will be time to talk later.
"Rest," he commands as he squeezes your hand in reassurance, "I will be here in the morning, I promise."
With that, you close your eyes and sink into a deep, dreamless sleep.

I have now finished watching Good Omens Season 2
If you haven't already, please block the tag "good omens spoilers" - I won't post anything else until Friday night at the earliest, but after that all bets are off.
@albertinesimonet, I did not manage a full liveblog but I did jot down my reactions after watching each episode, and those are compiled under the cut :)
(SPOILERS!)
Episode 1:
Holy flipping fuck are they actually making the ineffable husbands canon???
Okay.
Look.
I saw that it was trending alongside Supernatural and OFMD. I suspected it was going this way, and the season had ended with some sort of confession/immediate separation.
That did not prepare me for the season to open with Crowley saying "hello gorgeous" to a nebula and Aziraphale being disappointed that Crowley wasn't talking to him. Or for Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy to be playing while Crowley rushed to Aziraphale's aid, like-
This is a fanfic. This is a motherfucking fanfic, and I am pleased to say that my brain is processing it as such, a well-written but ultimately non-canon fanfic (*puts on my "I still have book!omens brainrot" shirt*) that just so happens to have been written by one of the original authors.
Anyway, outside of my snorting disbelief that the first ship that I ever shipped is apparently going canon in one 'verse, I do actually have some legitimate theories, which run as follows:
A. I know this season is the plot-bridge between the original novel and what would have been the sequel, and B. I know the sequel was going to involve the second coming of Christ, therefore C. I suspect this Resurrectionist group that kept getting hinted at in the promos is trying to bring Jesus back, Gabriel found out and tried to stop it, and that's why he lost his memories. I'm a tad bit surprised Heaven as a whole doesn't seem to be involved in the return of their special boy, but I guess we'll see how that plays out as the season goes along.
Episode 2:
Oh hey, I've read this one before! "It's ancient Biblical times and Crowley and Aziraphale are angsting about their orders and finding solace in each other's company" may have never gotten its own tag, but there are certainly enough fics about it that it could.
"Can I be a blue one?" Weird kids are the best.
So the Resurrectionist is a pub, not a group. Still think they have something to do with the second coming, but I'm open to being proven wrong.
Gotta say, I didn't expect Every Day to be plot-relevant. I knew they had it for the soundtrack, but I'm really liking this sort of spooky-mystery-music-mixup they've got going with it - love the way its incorporated into the end credits, too.
Totally down for master-thief Jane Austen, btw.
How many people are writing fics about Crowley and Aziraphale getting caught in a rainstorm and hiding under an awning even as I type...
Episode 3:
How to run a bookshop, a guide by A.J. Crowley: Carry large stacks of books around aimlessly and then toss them on the floor when you get bored.
I'm honestly surprised his awning plan nearly worked. Curses be upon weak awnings, I suppose.
I do like that the Bentley recognizes that it has to play nice with whichever one of its dads is in the driver's seat lol
Okay so they keep drawing attention to the fact that there's flies in the bookshop, and now Beelzebub is acting off. Are the flies like... telepathically communicating Gabriel's worldviews to them? Is that how they figured out he was there?
That bit he said when Crowley mentioned tempests is definitely from the Revelations. I unfortunately don't know enough about the Revelations to draw any new conclusions from this. I know they deal with the apocalypse and the antichrist, but that was S1 stuff so there must be something else...
(That bit definitely sounded like Rapture stuff though, just saying)
Lotta talk about people coming back from the dead, here. It's doing little to dissuade me from my idea that this is all related to the second coming. Their "little" miracle was strong enough to bring 25 people back? Okay. How did Gabriel add his own power to it... and who did he bring back? (Does 1 Jesus = 25 normal people?)
...Okay yeah I just googled it and the second coming (and the rapture) is definitely in Revelations. Apparently the appearance of the antichrist is its herald. *insert 'oh yeah it's all coming together' gif here*
...
Several-hours later addition: When they were talking about gravity Gabriel seemed upset that the book didn't stay where it was put, "it goes down." And that flies go up.
...did he "go down," turning into a human, and is Beelzebub "going up," and that's why they're so worried about finding Gabriel? Figure out what happened to him, so it doesn't happen to them as well? Hmm...
Episode 4:
"The rumors that you two are an item..." Yeah holy fuck they're actually doing this. I don't know why it keeps catching me by surprise??? I guess it's not like, the forefront of the plot, so every time it comes to the front it feels a bit like a new thing, but still.
Aziraphale's smug fucking little eyebrow raise at that "I didn't think you were his type." He's like yeah, and what do you know, hm?
Did not expect the entire episode to be backstory, but that was very cute, especially given how much people fixated on the church scene in S1. That little showcase of their trust, both of them worried it'll go wrong but still willing to try because they feel safe with each other. I like that they managed to keep the tension of the setting, that "I'm pointing a gun at my best friend and this could go horribly wrong" feeling, even when it's well-established that the worst that could happen is paperwork.
Also, Crowley trying really, really hard to give Aziraphale positive feedback on his magic tricks even when he knows they suck. That's true love, right there.
Another showcase of people coming back from the dead. We've had the kids getting "brought back" from shape-shifting, the "resurrectionists" digging up dead bodies, and now actual honest-to-god zombies. I am Sensing A Theme.
...are the zombies still around? What's-is-face the demon did say eternal undeath...
Aaaaaand there's going to be an army of demons dropping in on the local business association meeting. I hope Aziraphale has enough tea cakes for everyone.
Episode 5:
SEAMSTRESSES SHOUTOUT ITS A FUCKING DISCWORLD REFERENCE
I know most people are probably going wild over the Dr. Who references but. It's the seamstresses guild...
I'm sure Mrs. Sandwich and Rosie Palm would get along famously.
In other news wow they're just being blatant about the ineffableness of these husbands now, aren't they? The great thing about that is I'm watching it with my parents and I don't think either of them have clicked that it's going canon - like, they're just interpreting it as a running bit, 'haha isn't it funny that everyone keeps mistaking them as a couple' kind of thing. The same thing happened when I showed them OFMD, neither of them realized Ed and Stede were actually going to be a real canon thing until the kiss. I mean, maybe they've worked out that this is going somewhere by now? But I don't want to ask in case they haven't, because I'd love to see their reaction if it blindsides them.
I am Not Normal about the dancing. Aziraphale's giddy little grin when he drags Crowley to the floor? The fucking. Hand presses. I've probably read too much Jane Austen if I'm going this insane about them just pressing their palms together.
And just... that whole fucking scene. The amount of queer people - either queercoded or just flat-out obviously queer - is making my heart feel full. When Aziraphale referred to the magic shop owner's partner using 'they' before we met them I thought it was just, you know, being polite, he'd never met them and didn't want to assume, but then they showed up in person and folks were still using they and they were so obviously giving a huge middle finger to gender norms I just-
Man I need to watch more queer shows I love this feeling.
And the army of demons is more of a large crowd but, well, still threatening. I like the use of masks to hide demonic traits, clever costuming detail there.
But. My dudes. Don't split up, what the fuck are you doing? You've been here for all of human history, you know how stories go, surely you know things always go wrong when you split the party??? I love protective!crowley, I do, but my dude taking off to bring this mess to heaven's attention is not the way to go about saving your angel. And Aziraphale, buddy, I don't know what you're planning to summon there but I really don't think it's going to go well.
...Maybe he's planning to teleport himself, Gabriel, and the humans up to heaven, too, to get them away from the demon crowd. It would be funny if Crowley and what's their name, Muriel, step out of the elevator and Aziraphale is just. There already.
(I don't think that's gonna happen though. I think everything is just gonna get Worse)
Anyway sidenote Lottie if you've read this far, when Gabriel started talking about feeling like a house I immediately thought of you, I know that's a theme you like âĄ
Episode 6:
Jesus Christ!
(Called it!)
So I got a lot of the details wrong, but I was spot on with my two big predictions from the beginning. (Hey that ending reminded me of OFMD and Supernatural, I've got a great idea, why don't we all blog about the three of them and get them trending together-)
Gotta say, I'd only given a passing thought to Gabriel and Beelzebub being a Thing, their shippers must be going wild.
I knew there was a reason they kept drawing attention to that fly.
*Spots fire extinguishers* "Hey is that a Magnus Archives ref-" *Is brutally murdered with a lead pipe before I can finish*
I actually kind of love that Nina and Maggie didn't get together at the end of it all? I had felt like it was all going a bit too fast for them and I'm so glad they acknowledged that. They've got time, now, to work things out, and I love that they left it with the certainty that they'd be there for each other in the future... but not quite yet.
Oh! Oh! Oh! And they fit in the halos-used-as-lethal-frisbees-sequence! That was fabulous, I want to see more exploding headgear.
...anyway I think that's all the little bits I wanted to mention before getting to the Main Event.
I'm actually... not all that devastated about that ending? Like, okay, my heart was breaking watching it, the miscommunication and assumptions leading to a dramatic separation, it's tragic and angsty and oh my god my ship kissed my first ever ship kissed they did it they did the thing-
But. Two seconds after the credits started rolling my mind was already flying to, "oh thank goodness, they've got a Source On The Inside now and they might actually have a shot at stopping the end of the world instead of, you know, being blindsided by it because no one in heaven or hell is talking to them"
Like, sure, major breakup here, Crowley's gonna be pissed and Aziraphale might have to do their silly little "I'm sorry" dance three or four times before they can actually get down to business, but I don't think there's a question that both of them still trust each other immensely and know they can rely on each other to help out in a pinch. They'll be walking on eggshells for a bit, but it's pretty obvious that Aziraphale wouldn't have taken the promotion if he'd known Crowley wasn't going to come with him and as soon as he manages to properly communicate that fact they'll be fine.
(Sidenote, this, right here, exemplifies the difference between Book!Aziraphale and TV!Aziraphale. Book!Aziraphale is way more cynical about the whole heaven-and-hell system, he'd never say "heaven's still the good guys," and he'd be very, very suspicious of a sudden promotion landing in his lap after such a tumultuous sequence of events. TV!Aziraphale might not be the sweet little innocent bean fandom makes him out to be, but damn is he naive compared to his book counterpart. Makes me wonder how much of the hypothetical sequel has to change to work with this plotline - I'd bet my ass he wasnât an archangel in that one.)
Can Crowley... hear the soundtrack? "No nightingales" like how does he know that's significant? Sir you are breaking the fourth wall-
(And how powerful is he? He's a nobody in hell but he keeps stopping time and could access classified documents up in heaven, something made his and Aziraphale's miracle blow up and apparently it wasn't Gabriel, and he also just brought a whole ass dude back from the dead??? Maybe those "Crowley is Raphael" theorists from S1 had a point)
Anyway, to cap it all off: my current predictions for S3 are the aforementioned ineffable husbands makeup and subsequent spy shenanigans as they scramble to try to stop Apocalypse 2: Jesus Boogaloo; they fail and Jesus comes back, but instead of following the Great Plan he instead chooses to side with "all of humanity against all of heaven and hell" (maybe Adam shows up too to help out?); and Crowley, despite his repeated protests, actually does end up running a bookshop because he doesn't trust Muriel to do it properly.
I summation, yes I am still alive, and very excited for the next season, whenever it happens. Also I need gifsets of the dance scene and that kiss ASAP please and thank you.
#im posting this and then going to bed so ill answer any comments in the morning âĄ#good omens tv#good omens spoilers#ineffable husbands#aziraphale#crowley#original post#my good omens stuff#<- good god i need to back-tag a lot of posts into that group

Was tagged by my beloveds @justapalspal. and @yuusaris to do the "share a few paragraphs from your WIP" tag game :3 I've been kind of radio silent on my fics lately so here's my chance to prove I've been working on stuff LMAO
If you wanna do this, DO IT!! I don't know who to tag off the top of my head cuz tired... but DO THIS IF U WANT!!! YEAH YOU!!!!
So, here are some bits from some of my WIPs :-) there may be spoilers for some fics like Ghostbusters and Clean Sneak, but nothing too detailed ;)
From Ghostbusters! A Yugioh AU
(From the unfortunately delayed final chapter (im so sorry its gonna come i swear) where Ryou and Yugi are desperately trying to figure out how to solve the current Ghost Dilemma that is rapidly consuming Domino)
Ryou held the phone out between himself and Yugi. They waited, holding their breath in hopes they might actually get someone to answer the phone.
âKaiba Corp, how can I assist you?â
Ryou and Yugi stared at each other. They werenât really expecting an answer.
âUm,â Yugi quickly spoke up, âYes, um, is Seto Kaiba available?â
âIâm sorry sir. Mister Kaiba is very busy. I can take aââ
âBusy with what?â Ryou challenged. âListen lady, I donât know if youâve been outside, but itâs like night of the living dead out there. Get Kaiba on the phone and tell him itâs the Ghostbusters.â
âThe Ghostbusters? I⌠Iâm not sure if heââ
Yugi groaned. âPlease just get him on the phone. He needs our help and we need his. Itâs an emergency!â
The woman on the other line made a distressed hum. She seemed nervous, but Ryou and Yugi knew there was no time to lose.
Eventually, the woman sighed. âPlease hold.â
When the line went quiet, Ryou grinned at Yugi.
âOh my god, I canât believe that actually worked.â
Yugi nodded, but his excitement quickly faded. âThat was the easy part, though.â
From The Clean Sneak
(Continuing from the train capture gone awry, Yugi, Atem, Mai, and Isis must come up with a plan to get Amir away from Ryou)
âI promised to look out for my brothers, Mai.â
âIsisâŚâ Mai hummed with uncertainty, for she recognized that determined look in Isisâ eyes. âWhat are you doing?â
âIâm saving Amir from himself.â Isis pushed her rifle into Maiâs hands before reaching behind herself to pull out a revolver. The handle was wooden with beautiful, delicate pearl designs embedded into it. She opened up the cylinder, counting the bullets inside.
âThree shots Mai,â She continued, but Mai wasnât convinced.
âThree shots and what? Youâll shoot him and drag him off the train?! Isis, youâre not thinking straight. We have toââ
âWe have to save Ryou. Iâm saving my brother. My family.â Isis opened up the sleeper car door, her revolver in hand. âIâm just going to talk to him.â
âTalk to him?!â All three of the others in the train car exclaimed, looking at Isis in shock.
âSweetie, I donât think he wants to talk anymore. I think you need to think this over a little moreââ
From an untitled Heartshipping ficlet
(I'm currently working on something for @ninjam117 's birthday... so here's a snippet of that >:) )
Thinking about it made Yugi blush. He put his head in his hands, angry at himself for having such⌠tainted thoughts about a stranger. About an alluring young man. A pale, green-eyed, white-haired angel.Â
Yugi groaned to himself. He was hopeless. The man wasnât coming. It was well past midnight. Probably 2am. He should get some rest already. He was sure the young man had better places to be anyway.Â
With a heavy sigh, Yugi straightened up. He tilted his head toward the moon in the distance, gazing at it and the stars momentarily before forcing himself to turn away.Â
With his head low, Yugi quietly shut the balcony French doors. He shut all the curtains, then crawled into bed, not even bothering to take his party garments off.Â
The sheer curtains over the French doors did little to hide the moonlight. It bothered Yugi, for the light was so pale and magical. A perfect night to experience something⌠new. Something fantastic.
Yugiâs eyelids grew heavy. His blinking slowed as he stared at the edge of his bed, at the elegant night sky.Â
It was quiet. Peaceful.Â
Eventually, Yugi shut his eyes, sleep having taken him over.
From Cornered 2 title pending maybe
(Yes I'm making a sequel, yes I'm insane. First snippet is from chapter 1)
It didnât take long at all for the two to peel their clothes off. Theyâd done it countless times before. It was almost as routine to shower together as it was to work out together.
The water was running. Malik and Ryou were kissing, holding each other almost unbearably close.
âWeâre going to be late,â Malik murmured between kisses, but Ryou was relentless. He held onto Malikâs head and kissed him over and over again. Eventually, Malik had to pull himself free to laugh.
Ryou groaned. He leaned his head into the crook of Malikâs neck, his arms wrapped around his loverâs body.
âFine.â But Ryou didnât move. He closed his eyes, reveling in the peace that came with being close to Malik.
Malik hugged Ryou back. They stood under the running water for a while, content to remain in the embrace for as long as possible.
âI love you,â Ryou whispered, not wanting to ruin the peace by speaking too loud.
Malik smiled. He held Ryou tighter and kissed Ryouâs head.
âI love you, too.â
Ryou pulled away. He looked at Malik, thankful his face was already red from the run so Malik couldnât see how much he was blushing. He felt over Malikâs shoulders, trailing his hands down along his chest and to his sides.
âDo you want me to wash your hair?â Malik asked. Ryou closed his eyes, took in a deep breath and nodded.
Ryou turned around and let Malik do his wonders. His hands were so gentle. So warm and kind and never malicious.
âIs this okay?â He would ask frequently and Ryou would reply, âYes. Perfect.â
âI think you might be due for a trim soon,â Malik commented. âYour hair is getting longer.â
Ryou hummed. âYeah. Probably.â
Malik gently tilted Ryouâs head back to rinse the soap out. Then, of course, as always, Ryou did the same for Malik.Â
âDo you remember when we first did this?â Ryou asked, keeping his eyes fixated on the lathering task. âAnd we cried.â
Malik let out a thoughtful hum. âOf course I do.â
Ryou smiled a little. The memory was bittersweet, but felt more sweet as time went on.
â...Is everything okay?â Malik asked, hesitance in his tone.
âEverything is just fine,â Ryou replied, tilting Malikâs head back to rinse the soap. He hummed happily.
From Cornered 2... But some time later in the fic
(Another taste of what's inevitably to come in Cornered 2 but THATS IT no more sippies ... maybe)
Ryou forced his legs to back away. He forced his eyes to tear away, but nothing seemed to help. The gym spun around him. Voices that werenât there were on a loop, getting louder and louder.Â
He hurried to the locker room, bumping into one or two people along the way. His shoulders were tense, his hands balled up tight.
Unfortunately, the locker room did not provide the solace Ryou, for some reason, thought it would.Â
Stiffly, Ryou sat down on the bench, holding his head in his hands.Â
He wanted this to stop. He wanted the voices to stop. He wanted the panic to stop.Â
But thinking such things only made it worse. It wasnât going to stop. It was never going to stop. These things already happened to him. Ryou couldnât go back in time and fix it. He couldnât go back and⌠andâŚ
Youâre never going to forget me, you know.
âI know,â Ryou said aloud, answering the voice in his head.Â
Every time you sleep, youâll dream of me.
âI know,â Ryou said louder.Â
Every time you close your eyesâ
âI SEE YOU!â Ryou shouted abruptly, rising to his feet.Â
âI see you every day! I hear you every day! Shut up! Be quiet! Just be fucking quiet!â
Ryou wanted to punch the lockers. He wanted to throw all of his things and roll on the floor and sob, but the only thing he could bring himself to do was stand in the middle of the locker room and yell.
NoâŚ
No.Â
âFuck you,â Ryou said aloud again, smashing his hand into his locker before pulling it open aggressively. âIâm in control. Iâm in control. I AM IN CONTROL!â
âAre you..?â
Ryou nearly screamed. He jumped, not expecting Jounouchiâs voice to be so close.Â
Oh god. Ryou had forgotten he was in public. The locker room wasnât empty. Dozens of eyes were staring at him.Â
Ryou thought he might throw up.
âHey, Touzoku, itâs okayââ
Ryou shoved Jounouchiâs hands away. He didnât know why, though. He could really use the comfort.Â
âŚThe only comfort he wanted, though, was the only comfort he couldnât have.
âI-IâŚâ Ryou swallowed. He searched for words that werenât angry or rude or frantic, but it was hard. âIâm leaving. I need to go.â
Jounouchi frowned. He stepped away as Ryou chaotically shoved things in his gym bag and walked out of the locker room.
âWhere are you going? Let me drive you.â
âI can drive myself,â Ryou said through gritted teeth, though he didnât want to. He didnât want to be mean to Jounouchi at all, but right now that was all he could give him.
âPlease, Touzoku,â Jounouchi urged, following Ryou outside. âSomething is wrong. Youâre notââ
âOf course something is wrong!â Ryou practically screeched, whirling around to glare at Jounouchi. âSomething has been wrong with me for four fucking years, Katsuya! I canât get away from a man in prison and my fucking fiancee is in a fucking coma!â
Ryou was out of breath. People in the gym were gathered by the front door, watching the commotion.Â
âTouzokuâŚâ
âJounouchi,â Ryou breathed. âI..â He put a hand up in the air, shaking his head. âI canât. I need to see Malik. Thatâs all I want to do right now.â

Meredith: First Time Caller, Long Time Listener - Chapter Three: Crystal Clear
Author's Notes (potential spoilers): My home internet is really slow, hence why this post may look a bit rough (I also stayed up til 4AM finishing and posting this on AO3 lol) and a lot of things have been going on in my personal life but I'm proud to post the third chapter of my humble story! Especially proud, considering that I'm absolutely PATHETIC with procrastination and anxiety, so being able to consistently write three chapters on something I've been working at really means a lot to me. And I got to live out my childhood fantasy of secret passageways in a Bad Times at the El Royale/Barbarian-style sequence. Definitely a two-for-one.
Chapter Theme Song: One Way or Another - Blondie (I find it really funny in the context of this chapter, it matches the dark humor of an OC you'll meet in later chapters)
Spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4GV9rbpFrebDNkG3J1GGcu
Trigger Warnings: This chapter contains some graphic violence, mainly near the end, but there's slight references to it around the midway point.

Three: Crystal Clear
The landing in Minneapolis was smooth.
Tangerine got through security with minimal effort, owing to his experience in the business and strings pulled with money to spare. The private jet used for his businessman cover, one of his favorites and most convenient, didnât hurt.
He texted Lemon to put the bastard at ease.
đ: Landed safe
đ: In the belly of the beast now mate
đ: Fuck off, all I need to do is kill one sodding cop and take a picture of him and send it to some bird
đ: If any one person recognizes you youâre public enemy number one
đ: Could say that about any of the other places weâve been
đ: Not Meredith.
Tangerine had to take a large seething breath at that point. He tried convincing himself it was just anger as always.Â
đ: Didnât we agree never to mention that place out loud ever again?
đ: No, we didnât, we just stopped talking about it
đ: Yeah well same fucking principle alright? I landed, Iâm ready to do the job, thatâs it, why the fuck are you acting like this?
đ: I still donât think you shouldâve taken that job. I was already on one anyways from the fucking White Death and with where itâs looking, we wonât need one for months
đ: Weâve already fucking discussed this
đ: Just finish it and get home ASAP
Tangerine was about to get into another row over Lemonâs hypocrisy when he was the one trying to do his job without a complaint, but got his shit together before he could get even more sidetracked.
He checked into his hotel and went straight to unpacking. As he began hanging his suits, he realized he could not stop thinking back to his client.
She was indeed unusual. He appreciated the promptness and it was certainly a lucrative offer, but it was rare that he would get paid such a high amount, and he was usually sent after the higher-ups. Crime bosses, crooked politicians, and the like. But one measly corrupt cop? If it wasnât for the curiously high price, arguably below his pay grade.
And it just so happened to coincide with one of the very few jobs that separated the Twins.
Tangerine pulled out his phone and scrolled to find the contact of his client, and began typing.
đ: Oi, just to clarify, you said three million?
He gets a reply almost immediately.
đ˛: Yes.Â
đ: Iâm not gonna deny itâs a pretty penny, but how do you have that much, and why me, why this?
đ˛: I didnât want to bother with details. I did say it was personal. But since you asked, revenge. For my family. Weâve got quite a bit of money, and my dad left me a hefty sum in his will. Iâm using the bulk of it to pay you. If the job gets finished, of course.Â
The response was reasonable if irritating. He was a fucking professional for Christâs sakes.Â
And revenge was annoyingly common in his world, one of the most frequent reasons for people like him to be hired in the first place. It was all a bloody soap opera at this point.Â
Tangerine prided himself on being the type not to ask questions, but skepticism won out.
đ: Hold your horses, who do you think I am? Iâm doing your dirty work for you, and Iâm gonna be expecting that three mil when I get that photo.
đ˛: I genuinely find that ironic. And once again? You did ask. But I think thatâs quite enough chatter for a man of yourâŚoccupation, isnât it?
Judging by what he heard of her voice, she was older than him, but came off as a pretentious fucking brat in these messages. Avoiding her bait, Tangerine turned off his phone and got to work, hacking into databases and digging up shit on Officer Geoffrey.
Officer Geoffrey was a madman.Â
And he was no cop. He was Black Stone.
Black Stone had been an independent operator for quite some time, and profusely refused to work with any other, not even an agency or a handler. Quite rude too, even considering Tangerine. He flipped from being curtly professional to raving lunatic, constantly giving everyone else in the business a fucking earworm. He was also on the older, washed-up side, looking more like an alcoholic father than a threat.
Tangerine never liked Black Stone. Neither would he admit it, but he was surprisingly a rather prolific contractor, despite being in his line of work for far less time.Â
It pissed him off to no end. His ruthlessness matched his reckless abandon, but there was a clear pattern to his victims: they all had committed serious misdeeds, from Blackwater affiliates who had fired on civilians to human trafficking ring leaders.Â
Not that it undeterred Tangerineâs opinions of him. Self-righteousness annoyed the hell out of him, and there were plenty of âdeservingâ folks walking around all over the world at the end of the day.Â
Besides, the Twins had worked with Blackwater several times amongst everything they had done throughout their rise to infamy. They hadnât perished to the great Black Stone.Â
Anyways, his methods were as unpredictable as he was angry. Sometimes heâd shoot a prick through their fucking ears. Other times heâd lead a whole gang into a fucking forest and burn it all down.Â
Tangerine was understanding a lot more why he was being paid so much. The cop shit had to have been a cover for Black Stoneâs antics, and someone had been pissed off just enough. Unsurprising.Â
Well, then.
â
Tangerine tailed Officer Geoffreyâs patrol vehicle in a rental car.
He had been intercepting his field operations. Luckily for Tangerine, it wound up as a fairly mundane day. Black Stone was simply monitoring the city while writing the occasional traffic ticket.Â
At some point, Geoffrey began to drive out of the Central District. Tangerine followed close behind in a rental car, occasionally darting around different roads to maintain an unsuspicious distance.Â
They crossed the Wabasha Street Bridge onto the southern areas of the city. By now, Geoffrey hadnât done anything besides driving, not even using his radio. Tangerine decided to kill him wherever he stopped.Â
Eventually, Geoffrey slowed down and parked. The GPS revealed their location to be in Sunfish Lake, which looked to be a rural village with few houses around. Perfect. Tangerine pulled over just one turn away. He drove a slight distance down a wooded path before killing the engine.Â
Tangerine trailed Geoffrey and quickly caught up to within a short distance of him, walking along the road and taking cover among the trees as needed. Minutes later, a multi-story house in a more open lot of land came into view.Â
Fair spot for a safe house, Tangerine had to admit.
Geoffrey fished out a set of keys and entered the house. Once he closed the door, Tangerine made a beeline for the house, ducking out of the field of vision whenever Geoffrey walked in front of a window. At the door, Tangerine got out his lockpicks.
Whatever mild approval he expressed of Black Stone for his choice in refuge disappeared once he realized how fucking mediocre his locks were. Nevertheless, he quickly brushed the disappointment off. He would complain once he got home to Lemon.
Once he heard the latch click free, he swung the door open quietly yet rapidly. He closed it with one hand as he drew his revolver with the other.
The interior of the house was unremarkably normal-looking. Grey walls. Forest green tiles. A kitchen with an island, couches and a coffee table over a rug. Bookshelves, framed artwork, potted plants. Â
Geoffrey hadnât come into view, but momentarily Tangerine heard footsteps coming from upstairs. He slid behind a wall and prepared to ambush, but right as he got into position, the footsteps stopped. And never fucking came back.
Puzzled by Geoffreyâs apparent disappearance, Tangerine stepped out into the open. Still no footsteps or sound of movement. He scoured the first floor, walking down a hallway and checking every room and the garage.Â
Nothing.Â
Tangerine was about to venture onto the second floor when he heard what sounded eerily similar to rustling. He instinctively turned towards the sound, finger on his trigger.
Nothing?
He moved in the direction it came from, which was towards the back door. Right when he reached the door, he heard more rustling. But it sounded like it came from within the house.
What the fuck?
Tangerine briefly peeked through every room on the first floor again before walking up the stairs. The second floor was as mundane as the first. Bedroom. Bathroom. Second bedroom. Second bathroom.Â
He was just walking out of the second bedroomâs closet when he noticed a weird flash in the corner of his eye.Â
He wheeled around and was face-to-face with the bed.Â
Tangerine squinted and walked closer to the headboard. White with three frames that looked like cupboard doors.
Doors.
He used his free hand to look for any openings between the frames and the headboard itself. When he came to the middle frame, he felt his fingers squeeze in just a bit further than with the other frames, followed by a click, and the door swinging wide open.
Under the bed was a dark, long passageway resembling a cave. And there was light at the far end.Â
Forced to crawl, Tangerine got on his knees and began navigating through the dimly lit burrow. As he got closer to the light, he noticed that it came from within what appeared to be a dug-out room.Â
When he saw what was inside, his jaw dropped.
There was a gigantic fucking conspiracy board filled to the brim of him. Of everything about him. There were photos of him ranging all the way back from when he got his start in the business, his teenage years, to his most recent job. He should have gotten rid of the security camera footage by the time he got home.
And yet.
Newspaper clippings of his jobs, all covered up by the various agencies and criminal organizations by the time they hit the headlines. Portraits of his targets, in live and mangled body form. Snapshots of all the cities heâs worked in, including some uncomfortable close-ups on buildings he recognizes. The inevitable trail of red string connected all of them together in perfect chronological order from what he could remember.
Underneath the board was a long desk. On both sides of it were supercomputers, with a more general-purpose desktop on a smaller desk next to it. There were even more articles dedicated to him, scattered across the vast piles of documents he thought no longer existed. Burner phones he discarded. Cameras of the surveillance kind. Safe house keys.Â
This time, what he noticed the most was a garish handwriting in a darkened, oft-putting shade, trailing all over most of the torn sheets of paper. He knew it wasnât blood, but a distinct putrid odor emitted from the questionable ink he couldnât quite place. It just felt unnatural.
The writing itself, in bold, large capital letters, spelt NOTHING IS FORGOTTEN.
He picked up one of the sheets of paper and noticed the deranged writing covered a past contract he signed.Â
Fuck the job, Black Stone was going to fucking answer for this.
Coming out of the room, he was again bathed in the darkness of the cave as he crawled back to the bed.
Wait, didnât he leave the door openâ
His head bumped against what was certainly the wood of a frame.
That didnât budge.
He tried pushing against the door as hard as he could, eventually resorting to punching it with his brass knuckles, but for whatever reason, the door did not move an inch. Someone on the other end had to have been holding it in. It was like it had been fucking sealed.
He caught another flash at the corner of his eye and saw that more light had now appeared in the opposite direction. Cursing under his breath and realizing he was forced to find another exit, he crawled all the way to the other side.
There was another ladder leading up to a circular door, looking the same as the one he originally took. The door was easy to open - all he needed to do was push - and spit him out right on a lot of open land. The door was covered by grass, and he noticed a keyhole. It had been unlocked.
Almost directly in front of him was a large white mansion. It easily surpassed Geoffreyâs house by about three times in size. The main entrance had three large wooden doors and wide platform stairs leading up to the front door.Â
Two of which were wide open.
Tangerine seethed and quickly barged through the entrance. He was done with Black Stoneâs games.Â
As soon as he fully stepped inside, both open doors rapidly slammed shut behind him, causing him to flinch. All the blinds were closed in the house, giving the atmosphere a dim, shadowy atmosphere.
Tangerine tried looking out the small windows of the door, but they were built in a kaleidoscope style, the panes seemingly divided into dozens of protruding bumps of glass, making it difficult to see anything. There were no moving shapes, or even shadows from under the door that gave away an outside presence.Â
âFucking bullshit,â Tangerine muttered with half a mind to beat the piss out of whoever showed up, Black Stone or no. Then he heard something akin to a glass shattering from inside the house. He drew his revolver.Â
The nearest window smashes to pieces as a figure crashes through the glass to tackle him to the ground.
With a roar of exertion from the sheer frustration of the day, Tangerine puts all his strength in kicking the person off, but they grab hold of his legs and use their fucking body weight to slam him back down.Â
Tangerine hits the floor face first, and itâs instantly met with a deep, heavy punch to the back of his head, causing his nose to make full contact with the ground, signaled by the sound of something surely breaking.Â
Letting out a furious groan, Tangerine jabs an elbow upward, only slightly connecting with his attacker but connecting nonetheless, and he attempts to follow through with a jab of his own. Said attacker - whose weight had become suspiciously light - only captures his arm in a deathly grip and slams his legs onto Tangerineâs upper body, pushing his head with a now-damaged nose into the floor again with a louder crunch - make that two, as the attacker was pulling his arm back relentlessly far.Â
Tangerine let out a guttural cry of pain as his arm was broken, proceeded by his elbow as the bastard had the nerve to suddenly reverse the lower part of his arm in a 180-degree angle. He had dealt with broken limbs before, he was a fucking assassin, but this was particularly inconvenient.Â
His quick-thinking of how to adapt to his incapacity was rudely interrupted when the bastard slams a fist in his face, the sensation of pain arising from the broken nose clouding his judgment. A punch to his stomach then the next to his chest knocks the wind out of him.Â
Tangerine could now clearly recognize the figure. Black Stone, his tall, lanky figure and his messy dark hair. Most of all, he saw that he was pissed beyond belief. His eyes told the story of a flurry of emotions: rage most obviously, and something involving sadness.Â
Tangerine doesnât get to take advantage of his emotions the way he usually wouldâve as Black Stone slams him from wall to wall, then punches him through the cheek, his fist reaching his lips. He begins to feel the same sensation of pain from his nose in his mouth, and is only able to see two of his teeth on the ground before he is practically dragged by the neck without concern for potential choking. His attempt at breaking off is met with a kick to his knees and yet another punch to the shoulder, rendering it nigh dislocated.Â
Shortly, he feels Black Stone throw him to the floor, now carpeted. Tangerine was about to fight through the pain to rip him a new one when he noticed dozens of people. Then hundreds. They were at the back of the house now, and he could see into the sizable lot of land through the back door that people surrounded them from all sides.Â
People he recognized. No, people he knew - or knew him, rather.Â
And standing closest to him were the survivors of the Meredith Elementary School bombing.Â
