slowly realizing more and more that the sm boycott effort is gonna amount to nothing in the end, and this is not the way we should be going about the riize situation.
i loved seunghan when he was in the group, and i am still an ot7 fan. but at a point, i think we need to think of how much of our time and energy we're willing to spend fighting for something that has such a small chance of actually happening. sm is gonna bounce back from any stock lost from the boycott because they are one of the big 3. they have like 4 of the biggest groups in kpop rn: nct, aespa, red velvet, riize. there's just no way either boycotting riize or boycotting all of sm would actually be detrimental enough to get a member who's been terminated from the group back in.
and while i don't agree with the ot6 fans who are being unreasonable, i think some ot7 fans have been just as bad. this fandom is so toxic and rotten, every day it just seems to get worse. and i don't like the narrative that most ot7 fans were spreading about ot6 kfans-- how they were just mad that seunghan was dating pre debut. that isn't why they were mad, they really didn't care about that. it's the fact that he took pictures of him with his possibly/alleged underage girlfriend (it's honestly bad enough with/without her being possible underage, which i don't have confirmation on) at what looks like a hotel and presumably sent it to his friends in a group chat (which was how it got leaked). that's why they wanted him out of the group.
personally, i don't believe that a member should get kicked out of a group or put on hiatus without a proper reason why. and seunghan's hiatus and termination is really messy. but there are valid reasons why kfans weren't too big on him. the problem is there have been many idols kicked out for things they didn't do, and others who have been caught doing really fucked up and nasty things and rightfully kicked out of the group, but it's hard to know which idols are innocent or not when there's no organization. and when we jump on a narrative train and blow something super big out of proportion, the facts and proper investigation of the situation gets lost in the mess of things.
what should have happened was things being properly investigated back in october 2023 before seunghan was ever put on hiatus, and a decision made from there whether to keep him in the group or kick him out based on that.
instead, we have the other 6 members who clearly want seunghan back tired of the state of everything (rightfully so), ot7 and ot6 fans fighting a full blown war every day without logical thinking, and misinformation being spread left and right. there's no organization, there's no firm confirmation on anything, all of this is just such a big mess.
now let me be clear IF it's true that there was anything suspicious going on between seunghan and his girlfriend, then i would obviously no longer support him. as it is, i'm not going to stop supporting him until there's firm evidence. i'm tired of kpop stans making rash decisions based on half truths instead of just being patient and waiting for the facts to come out. staying neutral during unclear situations is a valid stance to take. please let's all stop jumping to conclusions from both sides.

want to give my two cents on the AI usage in the maestro trailer--
i think seventeen doing a whole concept that is anti-AI is very cool, especially as creatives themselves i think it's good that they're speaking up against it and i hope it gets more ppl talking about the issue. i also understand on a surface level the artistic choice (whether it was made by the members, the mv director, or whoever else), to directly use AI in contrast to real, human-made visuals and music in order to criticize it. i also appreciate that they clearly stated the intention of the use of AI at the beginning of the video
however, although i understand it to an extent, i do not agree with the choice to use AI to critique AI. one of the main ethical concerns with generative AI is that it is trained on other artists' work without their knowledge, consent, or compensation. and even when AI generated images are being used to critique AI, it still does not negate this particular ethical concern
the use of AI to critique also does not negate the fact that this is work that could have been done by an actual artist. i have seen some people argue that it's okay in this context because it's a critique specifically about AI, and it is content that never would have been done by a real artist anyway because it doesn't make sense for the story they're trying to tell. but i disagree. i think you can still tell the exact same story without using AI
and in fact, i would argue that it would make the anti-AI message stronger if they HAD paid an artist to draw/animate the scenes that are supposed to represent AI generated images. wouldn't it just be proof that humans can create images that are just as bad and nonsensical and soulless as AI, but that AI can't replicate the creativity and beauty and basic fucking anatomy that's in human-made art?
it feels very obvious this was not just a way to cut corners and costs like a lot of scummy people are using AI for. ultimately it was a very intentional creative decision, i just personally think it was a very poor one. and even if some ethical considerations were taken into account before this decision, i certainly don't think all of them were. at the very least i feel like the decision undermines the message they want to convey
i would also like to recognize that i myself am not an artist, and i have seen some artists that are totally on board with the use of AI in this specific context, so clearly this is not a topic that is cut and dry. but generative AI is still new, and i think it's important to keep having these conversations
#melia.txt#also want to add that as musicians svt are more directly threatened by AI generated audio than they are by AI generated images#and yet AI generated images is what was used in the video#and i guess the MV director/production company are the ones directly responsible for putting that in there#whether it was their initial idea or not#and they work in a visual medium so perhaps that makes it more 'fair' but idk it just feels like#the commentary is around music. which makes sense. and using human produced music/sound#but then taking advantage of AI images#idk just feels weird#i mean i don't like it either way#like i said in the main post i understand the intention behind the creative decision#and i'm still happy svt are speaking against ai at all i do think overall they're doing a good thing here#i just don't agree with the creative decision they/the production company/whoever made#edit: deleted the part about not boycotting svt over this bc ppl were commenting about boycotting bc of the 🛴 stuff#i meant specifically /I/ am not calling for a boycott because of specifically the ai stuff#was just trying to make a general point that im not making this post bc i want to sabatoge svt or whatever#bc kpop fans love to pull that catd whenever u criticize anything#so yeah just removed that bit bc i dont want ppl getting confused what im talking about#respect ppl boycotting because of scooter/israel stuff but thats not what this post was intended to be about#edit 2: turning off reblogs bc im going to bed and having asomewhat controversial post up is not gonna help me sleep well lol#may or my not turn rb's back on in the morning

i'm not excusing the absolute dogwater representation in natlan
BUT
if characters look ashy/gray, i've found messing with the brightness settings somehow makes it a less obvious/changes the skin tone entirely
Tumblr media
pacal, for example, looks less gray and slightly better, i wish i screenshotted how he looked in one of the cutscenes because i swear he looked even better before
for reference, i keep my brightness settings towards the lower end (not quite fully dark, but close)
this doesn't seem to fix every npc, and obviously doesn't solve hoyo just... sucking ass at having characters of color
but it's something you can try :)

I don't know which one is funnier: the French bigots or the USAmerican Christians crying about the opening ceremony of the Olympic.
The French bigots, it's nice, we love seeing them suffer. Yeah, this is France, the country of revolutions, what do you want us to not fight against oppression for the human rights? Boohoo, queer people, boohoo, disabled folks, boohoo, overseas departments people, boohoo, a black singer singing french slang, boohoo, female revolutionaries, boohoo... In this hot season, we drink the tears of the bigots.
But the USAmerican Christians... It's gold. I always wanted to make these prudes interact with the French culture to see their brain implodes, and it happened. "This is not family friendly, there's gay people and a trouple" Nope, that's totally seen as family friendly in France, lol. Also, the "they insulted christianity!", when we have the right to blaspheme in France, and we have a history with catholicism and christianity. If we want to criticize or insult christianity, you will not stop us. In the name of catholicism, the Seine had been filed with bodies in the past. So, shut the fuck up.
The director is a French leftist, so he represented his France, the one he wants, not the one the gov wants, btw. This is not France today, but it could be France tomorrow, and we will fight for this. Fuck the French government. Good job for that guy, he used art to give a message, as intended.

Why do ppl get so mad when you tell them you're boycotting something?
I s2g anime fans I've talked to have thrown literal tantrums when I tell them that I've seen a lot of anime but haven't watched anything new because my spouse and I are participating in the Japanese boycott

I just have to say, that as someone in my 30's, I understand why Jere isn't saying anything.
I'm not saying that it's right, but when you get in your 30's you're just so… tired. It's a lot more effort to concede pieces of the very little amount of joy you have for the greater good.
I am trying my best at staying an activist and doing what is right, but I fully understand why people who are a bit older might be too tired for it. I feel that when you spent the most of your 20's trying to survive and please others and try to help friends family and strangers, when you finally get a bit of joy for yourself, it's super difficult to let it go.
As I said, not saying that it's the right thing to do. It's just that I understand.

i still remember being a teenager and the first time i saw pictures from abu ghraib prison from the iraq war. i thought it was despicable. unfathomable the levels that the american military had gone to physically torture and dehumanize prisoners of war and to murder them. then, i remember growing up and seeing pictures from sri lanka's genocide of the tamil people (or as western media likes to call it, "sri lanka's civil war"). i'll never forget seeing those pictures and videos of tamil civilians bombed, murdered, raped, mutilated. i'll never be able to erase the cries i heard in those videos. pictures of innocent children bombed in schools. civilians bombed in supposed "safe zones". international media and western countries did nothing. and when i think nothing could possibly get worse... i see pictures & videos from gaza day after day... for the past 7 months. i've seen mutilated bodies. bombed bodies. bodies crushed under rubble. bodies flattened by tanks. burned bodies charred beyond recognition. i didn't know what shrapnel injuries looked like until now. compression injuries. i didn't... know... that things like this could be done to human beings. and they are. i hear stories and see pictures that are worse than the day before. the depravity and the moral apathy continues to worsen. and in moments like this, it's hard knowing that the ones who have all the power to stop these war crimes are only enabling it. and i'm consumed with so much rage that the world somehow keeps spinning despite it all. i'm mad at our governments. i'm mad at anyone who has any power to say or do something about it and chooses to do nothing or straight up enables it. there's got to be a better way. we can't keep living with these systems in power who inflict such pain into entire generations of people and never face any consequences for it.

how is it so hard for people including my friends to boycott things it makes me go absolutely insane sometimes having to lead discussions about things like harry potter and jkr and now eurovision and israel.......there are a million other things in this world that you can do and concentrate on rather than spend time and money on these things
going outside and looking at flowers is literally free, staying at home and reading pride and prejudice may not be entirely free but is a much better alternative i promise you ( but just in case you can legally read it for free online right here: x )
