Hi! This is a translated version of my own challenge that i'm doing also in tmblr (so sorry if i spell something wrong!), i call it:

"The aspirations challenge"

Before we start:

You must complete the aspiration of the generation (the one they name after)

This challenge is going to be really long because of how many aspirations

At least for now, im NOT incluiding the aspirations that come with busting the dust, high school years and the refresh of spa day.

The order of the gen may be not in alphabetic order just for the sake of storytelling

You can use any mods of cc

You can't use cheats for advantage, but you can use them for storytelling or certain goals (like having twins)

The sims can look whatever you like, but they must reflect they personality

Knowing that new aspirations will come, this challenge will change

You are complety free to skip/change certain rules in case you dont have the dlc

Gen 1; serial romantic:

Story:You always were able of getting everything you wanted with your beauty, this made it super hard to be in an commitment to you.

When you turn a young adult, you decide to challenge yourself by starting an stable job! But you will go easy on you, so you would spend the rest of the time clubling and woohooing anyone! And when you mean ANYONE,you REALLY mean it!

Max the style influencer career (trend setter branch)

Leave at least two sims at the altar

After all, people will recognize you as THE spellcaster. Capable of dominate the strongest spells and of course, your "innofensive" jokes!...And maybe your voice

↛In order to maintain a consistent and immersive experience, it is kindly requested to utilize a third person narrative while engaging in roleplaying activities. Additionally, it is highly appreciated if participants could demonstrate a good level of literacy in their responses. Let's create a captivating story together! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

↛I must admit, I'm not the most skilled when it comes to speaking out of character, so please don't take it personally! However, I'm more than happy to engage in a friendly chat. It's just that I excel in the art of roleplay, as this account is primarily dedicated to that.

↛ I kindly request that there are at least two chat bubbles or more during our roleplay session. It doesn't have to be excessively long, but please provide me with enough content to work with. I think I'll go on hiatus

With work and personal life, I can't find enough energy to spend on other people's wips. I want to dedicate my time to improving my drawing and coding skills and, hopefully soon, I'll restart my visual novel. I'm also reediting my book in Serbian, which I can't post here.

I'm sorry if I'm being selfish, but right now, tumblr doesn't give me the pleasure I used to experience. I only feel it as obligation to check the activity on my profile. I don't feel like I'm interacting, it's like I'm just doing my homework

Don't get me wrong - I still think that tumblr is the best platform out there and that writeblr community is one of the kindest there is! But right now, I need to place myself and my craft first.

The only blog I'll try to update regularly is @howl-of-the-blood as soon as I start working on my visual novel again.

You can find me far more active on @/KainaBlue on Twitter but it's NSF*W and on @/BlueKaina_legit which is my SFW Twitter dedicated to Slavic culture, art, books and my visual novel.

I'm trying to put things on queue but at some point it might run dry.

Honestly the amount of people who say artists and writers should do stuff for free, or try to rip them off on comissions still royally piss me off.

I think the worst part of it is the entitlement, I dont want to make this too much about generations but a lot of commissioners are millenial/Gen z's who grew up on the "steal and pirate everything" mentality, take everything that you can because no one else is going to hand it to you. which I can get behind, when you are screwing over MULTI BILLION DOLLAR COMPANIES. NOT THE STRUGGLING ARTISTS AND WRITERS who are trying to keep food on the table as desperately as you probably are!

It's simple, you wouldn't walk into a restaurant, order food and tell the server "sorry I don't have any money, but I've got like a few thousand followers on social media, I can get your name out there, get the restaurant some exposure" NO! They don't need "exposure" they need you to pay the damn bill!

On top of that, most of these artists and writers ALREADY HAVE FOLLOWINGS. They already have thousands of people following them, waiting for the chance to get a commission, who are willing to pay for said commission, they don't need "exposure" when they're already out there! He'll even the artists and writers with a few hundred don't need it, they'll get more followers as time goes by, their skill alone will see to it.

And what is with people trying to get free art and writing? It's not going to work! You can't harass someone until they cave, trust me, you'll be long since blocked before you even have the opportunity. I don't do comissions, online anyways, but my own friends and family, people who actually know me STILL PAY ME whenever they ask for me to do art for them because they KNOW it takes TIME AND EFFORT.

How many times do we need to have this discussion???? Like when is it going to finally click that people who need to pay their bills just as much as you do AREN'T going to do this shit for free!?

Here's the thing about art and writing, that you've heard a billion times but still aren't getting; IT. TAKES. TIME. AND. EFFORT. TO. GET. DONE. the art isn't going to magically appear and the writing isn't going to suddenly write itself, if either were so convenient YOU WOULDNT BE ASKING AN ARTIST OR WRITER IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Look at that, you see that? The first picture I did back in 2012-13, the picture beside it? I did that TWO YEARS AGO. I didn't suddenly know exactly what to do, or had anything close to a god given talent for drawing (I'm not that talented). The first picture WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST I COULD DO AT THE TIME THAT I MADE IT. In the time between these two drawings I admittedly took a break from art, but then I got back into it four years ago. EVEN STILL that was four YEARS of starting over from the basics, relearning everything, learning new things, wanting to actually improve my art.

Which, guess what, DID NOT HAPPEN OVER NIGHT. It was HOURS UPON HOURS of my limited free time as an adult drawing over and over and over and over again, every single goddamn day to get to the point that I was able to make that redraw look as good as it does in comparison. He'll, my art now puts them both to shame! Because I spent the time improving my quality!!

Now look at these artists doing comissions, they've probably put EVEN MORE of their time to get that good! They've put in LITERAL YEARS of sweat, blood, tears, frustrations and dedicated hardwork. Some did the same as me, self teaching and lots of practice, others probably had to go to school, which definitely wasn't cheap. But all of us put in that time and effort TO REACH THESE POINTS. Of being better artists, developing our styles, getting faster at drawing.

And maybe you think that this is super easy, right? That I or every other artist can just fire some art off and boom its good and done in like an hour?

FUCK. NO.

Even now it takes me several hours a day OVER MANY DAYS to make something exceptionally good! It doesn't matter how good an artist is, it still. Takes. Time.

Maybe the issue is that you don't understand how much actually goes into art, let me break it down for you, the steps that most people follow to finish ONE drawing.

-Rough draft: general character outline, get a feel for what I want to draw.

-Rough sketch: I start doing a bit of pencil to start filling in details like mouth, nose, eyes, hair, clothes. Ect.

-Penciling: I go over the rough sketch and clean everything up, maybe do some editing, this is when you can start making out all the details.

-Ink: I trace over the finished pencil with a pen tool and actually have the line art, everything looks clean, presentable, it actually looks like a character now. I'll spend time editing this and possibly redoing the inking many times over to get to a point where I like it.

-Flat color: I decide on which colors to use for skin tone, clothes accessories. Ect.

-Shading/highlights: I figure out where my light source is and how strong it is, I then apply the correct amount of lighting and shadows to the color to give it depth, I also have determine the texture of skin, clothes and accessories to make everything look real and natural.

-Blending: I smooth out the shading and highlights so that it looks more natural and isn't too hard (noticeable difference between color) so that it looks as natural as possible.

-Finish: I go over last minute details, finish any editing or corrections that need to be done. Once it's good I call it a day.

Each process is longer in length then the previous, with the exception of the final editing (as long as everything looks good) and even the rough draft can take some time. Over all this is SEVERAL HOURS of work for a SINGLE DRAWING.

So is it sinking in yet? How much is put into doing even a single character drawing? God forbid if its done with background. This isn't a "scratch a pen around and be done with it in ten minutes" kinda deal, no, this is SEVERAL HOURS OF SOMEONES LIFE BEING PUT INTO THIS

And if you still have the AUDACITY to try and wrangle free art from an artist then there's no helping you, you're just a selfish piece of shit, no question and I want nothing to do with you.

Someone might say "But I got free art/writing from.-" look I don't give a shit if someone did something for you THAT ONE TIME, these other artists and writers? Totally seperate and different people. You're one freebie experience does not, and should not apply to other artists and writers.

"But what if I really want this commission but don't have the money right now?" Well, that's tough shit. Save up and properly commission them when you can, it's not their problem.

"But what if I'm in a really bad financial situation and really want it?" That sucks, and I'm sorry, but again, not their problem. Chances are this is their only source of income and they need to make money so that they don't end up in a similar situation.

"They have a gift! They should share it!" What kind of cheap ass- LOOK, just because someone is talented or really good at something does not automatically obligate them to do anything for total strangers in anyway shape or form. These are living, breathing people, the same as you. They need to eat, they need to pay rent/mortgages, they need to pay vet bills, send their kids to college, do their taxes and everything else that YOU YOURSELF need to do. Asking anyone to spend their time doing something for free, when that something is how THEY ARE SURVIVING is beyond asinine. Not only that, this obviously isn't a hobby to them, it is very clearly THEIR JOB. Would you want to do a job where you didn't get paid at all? Doing a shit ton of work for absolutely nothing? No? Didn't think so.

"It shouldn't be about the money!" Well unfortunately, as with almost every other job, it is. We live in a world where we desperately need to make money in order to survive. That's the painful fact of the matter. If money never had to be an issue ever again then this would be a very different story. But it's not, plain and simple as can be.

Look, these people are just like you, artists and writers who are just trying to get by in a shitty ass world, using the one thing they have that let's them have an income. Leave them be, don't try and trick them, guilt them, or cuss them out when you don't get your way. Either properly comission or leave them the hell alone, plain and simple.

hello! can i ask which is your first zine? i'm wondering if you could give tips on applying for a zine as a mod when you don't have previous zine experience? sorry for the weird questions!

Hello!! 💞 Not a weird question at all!

My first zine as mod would be @knymysticzine! They took me in as inexperienced as I was and patiently learned me everything I needed to know, and more!

Some tips that I can think of from the top of my head:

If possible, start out as contributor! This helps a lot to learn the process and ways of a zine before you step into the bigger role of modding.

Apply for positions like a mod intern (where no experience is required), a writing/beta or art mod if you're a writer or artist, or even a social media mod if you're good at social media!

Take a look at the current team, if possible, before applying! You'll want to work with an organized team who has already done successful zines to show you the ropes! And inexperienced team might overwhelm you/teach you wrong.

Don't lie on your application, even if it's a zine you really really want to mod for! This breaks faith and trust in you as mod, and again, sliding into a high risk position unqualified might overwhelm you.

Don't bite off more than you can chew! This might sound ironic coming from someone modding as many zines as I am, but you need to look at the amount of free time you have available and know your own limits and then from that gauge how many zines you can mod at the same time. For someone starting out, I'd suggest staying to one for at least a few months until you're fairly far into the zine process!

Show your dedication when applying! When answering the app questions, answer them with vigour and be specific of what you can bring as mod!

Remember to take criticism objectively! Usually your mod team is just trying to help and teach you the ways, so don't take criticism too personally. Mull over what was said and thank the team for helping to guide you in the correct direction!

Be proud of your creativity! Sometimes mods get so used to the ways of zine modding that they don't consider better ways to do things! As a green mod, you might come up with a lot of creative and more efficient ways of doing things! Share your thoughts with your mod team!

DON'T ATOP APPLYING!!! I was rejected from zines (applied as contributor) for a whole YEAR!! And then I got my first acceptance email!! And then I built experience as contributor and I started applying for mod positions! And I was rejected again and again and again until I finally got that acceptance email and I was overjoyed! From there on I was able to build my experience to what it is now. So don't be disheartened and quit! Keep going!

Familiarize and teach yourself skills that will help you as mod! Figure out how to make sheets, forms, carrds, anything and everything! This will look good on your application and will help you a lot when you get accepted- it will limit the time you'd have wasted trying to figure everything out!

I'm sure there are more, but these are the only ones I can think of at the moment! I hope they help a lil! Goodluck on your journey of zine modding!

i honestly have no idea why people keep bringing up this idea of bias in judging competitions because, while i do think there is a type of bias that certainly exists, i think a lot of so-called "bias" that people have is ... not whatsoever like what people think it is lol. artists are people and there's always going to be SOME kind of bias no matter what you do, because it's literally fuckin impossible to NOT be biased. by that i mean:

your taste in plots/types of characters/medias influence your judging

quality of writing or art can influence your judging

the person who's applying for the adopt you may have previous judgement about

even if you say you aren't biased, you STILL have preferences and tastes in things that you prefer more than others, which in of itself is a kind of bias

people who know you (friends for example) will naturally know what your taste is.

a competition is judged based on what form the artist thinks is best, right?

NEWSFLASH EVERYONE'S IDEA OF "WHAT'S BEST" IS DIFFERENT FROM PERSON TO PERSON ..... "BEST" is literally the most subjective thing there is, and while i agree that there are certain aspects of art and writing that you can use as objective measurements of tangible skill, it's... still subjective. what people think is "best" will vary from person to person because we all have different tastes. so, essentially, this boils down to the idea that the winner of an adopt competition will ALWAYS be the form the artist liked best, because that is what the artist perceives as best. so like. when people appear biased in adopt competitions towards friends or certain circles, it's probably because they're literally friends because they have similar tastes in things, and therefore the form the artist likes best is naturally going to be from someone who shares similar tastes.

so whenever i hear about """bias""" in competitions i just kind of roll my eyes tbqh because it's usually followed by complaints of "BUT I PUT IN SO MUCH EFFORT" or "I WROTE SO MUCH MORE THAN THE WINNER" uhhhh. if adopt contests were won by effort alone it wouldn't be a contest, it'd be an endurance test lol. literally just "who has the most time to waste writing out 60000k words of absolute meaningless fluff"... because, i hate to break it to you, but ANYONE can write 5000 words of mindless drivel that has literally no substance to it.

THERE IS NO SKILL NEEDED TO BLOAT YOUR WORD COUNT.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO WRITE WELL TO WRITE 5000 WORDS.

quality > quantity, always. like, i'm sorry you put in so many hours of effort but, those people who win with MUCH smaller wordcounts... did they not work to get as good as they did with writing? you put in 5 hours into one tryout. but others, take me for example: i have been writing for over 10 bloody years. i've worked hard to improve my writing, so you can't tell me i "didn't put in as much effort" as you because i did. i put in YEARS of work to get better so doing simple things would take me LESS time now. inb4 IT'S UNFAIR! dude, the literal definition of a contest is for the best to win. it wouldn't be a contest if it wasn't like that lol. it'd just be charity. what you should be doing instead of complaining about it is ASKING FOR CRIT and WORKING TO IMPROVE like a good sport? i get that it's discouraging but you should be prepared to lose when you join a contest. it's valid to be upset about but the moment you say you deserve it more than others JUST because of your effort, then i have a problem.

I'm going through a really long burn out. I don't have the energy or inspiration to draw anything, but I love drawing, a lot. I tried to reflect on the reason for this burn out and I'm 100% sure it's because of school and the stress of it. To make matters worse this year I need to choose what I'm going to follow next year, and I know it's arts but my mom is really against it so this burn out is making me terrified because my mom will use this as proof I'm not really meant for arts. 1/2

2/2 So I can't take a break from whats burning me out (school), I don't want to show I'm not drawing (and this stresses me even more and worsens the burn out) and I can't do something I love. My school productivity is getting worse (plus my classmates are loud so I can't concentrate in school) and I'm getting closer to a meltdown every day. I have no idea what to do...

Hey anon, sorry I am just now answering, just got on my laptop.

I completely understand that fear: that putting your drawing aside might mean to others that you don’t care. But first of all, you do need a break. Stepping aside from our creativity is productive. You have to let your mind clear a little, and your body rest, so you can return fully concentrated etc.

But you don’t have to completely stop or just set it aside.

Here’s my advice on what I think could help you keep yourself motivated while not engaging directly in drawing so you don’t burn yourself out, and also a great way of showing your mother you are serious about your choices: engage yourself in art in different ways. For example, you could read art history books, or watch youtube documentaries about artists, or just movies about artists you like (we can all look up some cool movies for recommendations!)

You could find a few resources on drawing stuff like, techniques and whatnot, and read more about it. Even anatomy books, back when I was trying to learn how to draw, anatomy books were great to boost my creativity and were really helpful like, learning about the human body helped me a lot in improving my skills.

You could also experiment in other areas: try some aquarels, or pastels, or you know what? Get one of those shitty colouring books with mandalas, a few crappy coloured pens and paint. I swear that’s super relaxing (according to my therapist---and I’m quoting her cause she’s the expert---scientifically proven to improve our brain when under stress) and it’s still an activity related to what you love.

Stress really hinders our productivity and creativity. Like, balancing that with school is really difficult. And it does feel like you have to sacrifice one in order to succeed at the other. But I promise you that, though it does feel that way, it will not be what happens, it doesn’t reflect reality. Sometimes, we are forced to set our passions aside to fully dedicate ourselves to school, but the trick is seeing it as a pause on creation rather than creativity. What I mean is, because you are not actively creating, it doesn’t mean you aren’t practising and stimulating your creativity. It means you are letting your brain and body rest for a little, but you can definitely engage in many other ways. Though I know that when we are super focused on creating (and especially when there are external factors pressuring us into being perfect, or proving the world we mean serious business when we’re going head-first into our passions) it’s very hard to accept a thought as simple as ‘I need to stop for a moment’.

Don’t worry, anon. A pause doesn’t mean you’re stopping. Stepping back and taking a deep breath doesn’t mean you’re setting your passions aside.

Find ways of stimulating that same creativity. In your free time, try to cultivate that joy for the arts, for drawing, for painting, etc. Read books about it, watch movies and videos and documentaries, DYIs and stuff, and stimulate your brain but in a more relaxed way. Also, make sure you take pleasure from doing these things, don’t do them because you feel obliged to do it. It’s really important that we feel pleasure when doing these tasks. It’s really important to be very mindful of our very own comfort and pleasure.

But it’s okay---it’s more than okay, it’s perfectly reasonable and understandable---to take some time off. It sounds like your stress is starting to hinder your creativity and I just want you to know it’s perfectly alright to step back and take a deep breath. If it works with you, you could even make yourself a schedule. One thing I did at one point in college (because I had so much to read but there were books I wanted to read for my pleasure but didn’t have the time) was make a timetable for my reading hours. I decided that like, tuesdays and wednesdays or whatever were for art theory stuff. I didn’t define right off the bat ‘I’m gonna read Jacques Rancière on these days!’ I just defined those days were for the complicated stuff, and then two more days were for complementary reading for college, and then weekends were for whatever the shit I wanted. It actually worked, and I am terrible with timetables or schedules as a whole. Creating a time frame for certain things to happen while not exactly defining what those things were (so, in other words, I wasn’t compromising with myself) worked and still gave me room for me to like, move freely. I didn’t keep it strictly. Occasionally, I said ‘ Fuck you, Jacques’ and decided to read whatever instead of what I had set for myself. But instead of being angry, I knew I had accomplished the goal throughout the days before, so I was okay with that.

I think that balance, between setting goals that don’t require compromises on your behalf, and defining for yourself a specific time frame where you tell yourself ‘this right here is for me to do whatever the fuck I want’ is very important and can be very useful when we feel like we’re collapsing under the stress of Have To Do versus Want To Do.

If it helps, also try to like, understand what the order of priorities are right now---but don’t put drawing at the bottom just because it doesn’t relate to stuff that seems urgent (like, it doesn’t relate to exams, or a certain homework you have to do, etc). Keep it on the top 5 or something, because as you said, you want to study arts---that means it is important. VERY important. But if there are other things that topple it for the moment---for example, you have a math exam coming? It just means it’s currently more important and urgent because of the relevance it has in your current-life. That is the short-term moment, with significant less impact on the long-term moment. Art has more impact on the long-term moment, so it shouldn’t be taken less seriously no matter what everyone says---it only matters what you say. To sort of make a list, or a set of goals, or understand what the current priorities are, it might just help you organize a little better. For example, for me, it helps me understand just how I can balance the things I need to do with the things I want to do. In other words, if I have my priorities straight (which is rarely) I can more easily say how much time I can spare to do this or that. It’s a tool to keep my mind clear I suppose.

And hey! If you need stuff that might help you like, resources and books and stuff, tell us. I mean, I’m more on the art history side, but I know artists who know artists and there are A LOT of artists on here you are willing to provide! So let us know!
