do any of the cast have an eating disorder? inspired by that one warren ask. i was thinking nathan might as he has a lot of mental turmoil and a few things made me think he was depicted as such. it would be nice to have some rep
In my fic, Victoria Chase used to struggle with bulimia in middle school. Chapter 7 references it in Rachel's texts to her.
Rachel and Victoria have beef, having known each other in middle school. Rachel was the popular kid and used to bully Victoria, who back then was and looked very different from her current self.
Rachel matured eventually and probably would have apologized to Victoria if she hadn't been so hostile to her at Blackwell.
Also, I think Nathan briefly struggled with an eating disorder too, but Victoria put a stop to it when she befriended him since she recognized the signs.

Do you have any idea when the new chapter will be released? (No pressure ofc 😊)
If I sat down, fully focused, and dedicated my time appropriately... it would take about a month. Maybe less since it's already halfway done.
Realistically though... I would be lucky to finish it before the end of the year.
#thanks for the ask!#most chapters would probably take a month to write if i allocated my time appropriately#but thats on me for being a perfectionist

will warren ever find out about nathan’s self harm? and how would he react to it?
YES he will.
I think he would be pretty mature about it, considering his age. I had an idea where I wanted to juxtapose Rachel's reaction to the self-harm vs Warren's reaction.
In my fic, Rachel believes Nathan's self-harm scars are 'beautiful'. She's very poetic and wants to find the meaning behind everything. She believes the scars represent the experiences that made him who he is. This, unfortunately, makes Nathan's self-harm worse.
Warren thinks the scars are ugly, but he doesn't say it. Instead of thinking about it in a poetic sense, he focuses on the causes that led to Nathan making the choice to harm himself and realizes they were avoidable.
Both of them want(ed) to help Nathan, but approached it in different ways. Rachel was focused on validating Nathan's pain, but unintentionally legitimized this coping mechanism. Warren sees them as senseless violence. There is no point to it; it doesn't help anything, and he wants Nathan to know that, while still acknowledging the pain he went through.

how does it feel to have people who read exposure when it first started still actively reading your work all these years later? :p
i found exposure first when i was about 9, and i’ve been reading it ever since. i turned 18 this year. admittedly, a little young, but i’ve loved it since then.
thanks for sticking around, still my favourite fanfiction :)
NINE?!
Omg. And you just turned 18? Are you telling me it's been 9 years since I started writing this? I don't believe you. (jk. the math checks out. wtf.)
I have a question for those who read my fic when they were young... did it affect you or change your worldview in any significant way?
It's rated Mature and while I can't stop anyone from reading it, I do get a bit concerned when finding out a lot of fans are really young, since it covers a lot of 'adult' topics and the characters act in unwise ways throughout a lot (all) of it.

hi! this is an exposure related question as that fic literally changed my life, do you have a specific playlist for grahamscott? i made one long ago and fear it's not very accurate anymore. here's the link to it if you wonder how i perceived them like 3 years ago now https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6e8hBjCEc0PV7086QhMmT5?si=ebf1d91f80b84062
Very cool! I added it to my library so I can listen to it when I drive.
I kind of have a playlist? It mostly exists in my head, and some of the songs reference scenes that haven't happened yet. I've talked about posting them for YEARS now but haven't gotten around to it. Maybe I'm just insecure idk.
Here are some songs:
John Legend "All of Me" (Warren abt Nathan)
Flume "Never Be Like You" (Nathan abt Warren)
Maroon 5 "Maps" (Warren abt Nathan, future scene)
Florence + The Machine "No light, no light" (Nathan abt Warren, future scene)
Mumford and Sons "The Cave" (Nathan and his father, future scene)
Florence + The Machine "Breath of Life" (Nathan centric, future scene)

would you include more sexual content in exposure? like warren and nathan actually having sex etc? it seemed their kiss was very heated so i was wondering what you’re stance on writing them sexually would be and whether you planned on including it in your work?
I don't think so? They're teenage boys so of course sex is on the table, but I don't know how comfortable I feel writing it in detail. I'm probably going to fade to black when that happens...
what do you guys think?

Hello! Not a question, sorry… Just wanted to say that Exposure is quite literally the best fanfic I’ve ever read, so thank you for writing it! And I’m sooo excited for the continuation! (Although don’t feel pressured or anything! Take your time!)
Also you wrote in a reply earlier that some people don’t like this fic since it’s so heavily “Nathan-centric” but to me that was the BEST part. And that’s why I’d always recommend this fic because I think Nathan deserved to be much more fleshed out in the game but for obvious reasons he couldn’t have been… However in Exposure I love that you did what the devs couldn’t: give Nathan an ACTUAL story, actual feelings and actual persona—and perhaps a chance at redemption.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that even though this is a Grahamscott ff the reason it got me hooked years ago was because you did such a fantastic job at writing Nathan—and all of the other characters. I feel like he’s so hated in the fandom, which I’ll just never ever understand—did these people not play LiS through the end? Yes, Nathan did bad things, however everyone seems to forget that he was barely even in control of himself, his actions. I personally never disliked him: if LiS taught me anything it was that no one is what they seem to be. And Nathan is so damn misunderstood in the fandom by so many people, it frustrates me so much…
Anyway (God, why did I write so much, sorry…) I finished my reread of it today and I still only have praise for Exposure. :)
Thank you so much! (I don't mind receiving long asks btw, they're fun to read)
Nathan's treatment in the narrative and by the fandom was one of the main reasons why I started writing this in the first place. I fully hated Nathan in my first playthrough of Life is Strange, until the twist in the second to last episode.
I find his character super interesting and multi-dimensional. It was really upsetting how he was written off by the devs after the reveal of Jefferson as the twist villain.
I wish we had learned more about him in the game, but alas. That's what fanfic is for. If he had been more fleshed out I may not have written Exposure, so in a way, it's good that they didn't say much about him. It opens the door to many headcanons and fanworks.
I just wish the general fandom was more receptive to works that explore his mindset and personality. People tend to assume that if you enjoy a "problem" character, it means you agree with them or think they did nothing wrong. I just think they're neat.
People assume that he raped Kate and are quick to point that out. I personally don't think he did. The game wanted the player (and Max) to believe that, so I don't blame anyone for believing it. The twist near the end of the game opened the door for me (and others) to question that assumption.
Sorry this got long. Thank you for reading my fic and writing this ask.

hi!
regarding your characterisation of the characters in ‘exposure’, do you have any boundaries of what people do with your version of the characters? as in, do any headcanons, pieces of medias, or own adaptions of your story make you uncomfortable?
Nope! It's very flattering to know people have headcanons of my au.

Heyaaa little question about Exposure, you probably got that question a hella lot of time but will you ever continue this fic or is it totallly abandoned? Because I really LOVED this fic, I couldn't find any other Grahamscott that was worth reading but I fell in love with your writing style and how you write so well Nathan ! I hope one day I'll see another chapter ❤️😁
Thank you for reading!
It's not abandoned. I've been working on Chapter 20 on and off. Hoping to post it soon-ish but I honestly don't have an ETA yet.
#thanks for the ask!#ch 20 has nearly 3k wordcount so far#but theres still a lot left to write bc im crazy#idk how long it will be

hey! i’m really sorry for the ask and i was wondering whether there’s a reason why you stopped updating exposure. was it burn out or anything like that? this fic is extremely important to me as i read it during hard times and i love it so much. i’m just curious and you don’t have to answer/go into detail if you don’t wish. thank u! :)
I have a disease where I only want to write when I'm busy doing something else. >_>
I honestly don't have a good reason. Imagine thinking of writing, then saying "I'll do it later, actually" for five years straight.
If I get stuck while writing, my body does NOT want to sit still and push through it. I get distracted very easily.
And, well, writing gets lonely sometimes. The only person I know IRL that read my fic is my husband. No one else has gotten past the first chapter, and it's discouraging. Even if they like Life is Strange, Grahamscott is a pretty niche ship. Hell, the fact that it's Nathan-centric is a turn-off for most.
When people think of Life is Strange they think of pricefield and lesbians (rightfully so). Warren and Nathan are among the most hated characters in the fandom, and the ship is considered a "crack ship" (which is true). It's a really hard sell, unless you are already in the fandom.
I like reading comments and asks from fans because they remind me that real people have read my writing and like it. Sometimes I need the reminder.

i have an exposure questionnnn!!!
does warren potentially have anorexia? i know this is a pretty big stretch, but he says that he was in hospital for an entire semester which led to his first F during his drive through date with nathan. he doesn’t explain why he was in hospital throughout the fic, but this could potentially be him being hospitalised due to his eating issues.
then, when nathan is listening to the conversation between warren and his dad, warren’s dad says “you’re getting heavier”. perhaps this is alluding to the fact that warren is recovering in a way, and it’s evident through his weight gain.
Not anorexia, but I like the idea. This is what I had in mind:
After his mom passed, his dad went into a severe depression, and Warren was left to take care of both himself and his grieving father. He suffered significant malnutrition as a result and had to be hospitalized. A social worker was called, and Warren was at risk of being taken by the state. The fear of losing his son helped Warren's dad get his shit together.
Warren is good at taking care of other people, but not himself.
