Clan Culture Illustrations
So I've been mentioning this in passing, and I think now is a good time to start collecting info from people who are interested!
I'm seeking artists who want to draw stuff for my Clan Culture series.
I often write very large guides for things like tools, ecology, medicine and treatments, etc, which then get held up by the fact that they're big blocks of text without any fun pictures. I usually collaborate with friends and family, but I could put out more quicker if I had some artists on standby.
If you're an artist who would be interested in illustrating, here's the details;
Everything I make on this blog is tailored towards WC fans, but free for anyone to use and reference for their xenofiction worldbuilding projects. You do not have to be intimately familiar with the Warrior Cats books. This offer's open to anyone above 18.
Fans of Better Bones are preferred, because Clan Culture and BB often intersect. I might ask for help with some BB stuff at some point, too. (for example i have a guide on types of StarClan spirits that needs illustration)
To re-iterate, please only inquire if you're 18+
Price range is 20 - 50 USD and turnaround time can be up to 6 months if you just keep me updated. (I am sorry that I can't offer a higher price for these, but this is coming from my own pocket. In return, this is meant to be low pressure)
Half payment upfront, the rest after completion.
I will never "assign" you a surprise mystery topic (unless you ask for that I guess?), I'll either present you with a list of posts that need illustration (yes this means you get to read stuff early), OR float some ideas that play to your strengths and interests. (for example: if I'm approached by Spider-Enjoyer-9000 who's willing to draw a ridiculous number of spiders, I will draft, write, and research a Clanmew Expansion in the style of Deer and Co or Moths and Butterflies.)
Either way, there's usually a lot of creative freedom here unless I need a specific technical drawing, which I will discuss with you and provide references for. (As an example, if we were talking about a post on declawing, I might ask for you to illustrate the muscles within the paw.)
The nature of Clan Culture means you will probably be asked to draw plants, food, objects, and/or scenery
Still interested?
I'm hoping to make a personal "list" of people I can call on, so send me your commissions info or details in a DM, an ask, a reply to this post, or anything else you'd like. Tell me about stuff you like drawing, topics you're interested in, if you can draw backgrounds, etc
Also, please tell include in that message if you're comfortable with illustrating these particular sensitive topics. These are opt-in only;
Medical Gore (Woundcare, stitching, blood, vomit, urine, parasites and bug bites, etc.)
Reproductive Care (Abortion, birth, pyometria, inducing lactation, possible revamp of the HRT guide including simple surgeries, etc)
Hunting and Butchery (Humane killing of prey, skinning, disembowelment, cutting meat, making sausage and blood pudding, etc)
Funerals and Animal Death (Sad kitties, dead battle cats, scavengers and grave desecration, tombs and burial rituals, concealing decay, etc.)
The end art will always stay tasteful, but I might need to give you references in the form of real images or tutorials that might be upsetting if you're sensitive to these topics-- so it's important to me that I consider those four things "opt-in."
I have plenty of other posts that need illustration, it's just a huge plus if you're able to do these too.
(You should also mention any other specific triggers or phobias you have, so I don't unwittingly come at you with something else upsetting)
"I still have questions!"
Putting a big list of answers beneath the cut;
"Would everything have to be colored?"
Nope, as long as there's pictures to break up the text, you can do sketches, black and white, flat colors, only put color in the header, etc. We'll discuss expectations with the post in front of us, and then agree on price.
I have ONE requirement; it's gotta look good on Tumblr darkmode. Because I use Dark Reader.
"Do you have a Discord?"
I do, I just try to be exclusive with who I give it to! When we're discussing details, we'll probably move over there if you'd like. This is a reason why I only want to work with 18+ artists, I'm not always SFW on main.
"Can we do an entry together about (specific topic)?"
Probably yes, so feel free to ask! The worst that will happen is that I say no, or maybe later. For example, I've got a post on Sweetness Tolerance reserved for my partner (they like to draw sweets), so I would say no if you asked.
Just keep in mind that researching, outlining, and writing is unpaid labor I'm doing completely for free. I have posts mostly done that just need art, and topics I've done some research on. Please only ask for special collaborations from scratch if you're serious 🙏
"Does it have to be digital?"
You'd have to have a WILD idea for me to say yes to anything non-digital, but I am a queer of whimsy. If you can whimsify me with an idea, hell yeah.
"Will I be compensated if you need any changes?"
Yes. If I spring anything on you after the details we agree on, I will first ask you, then ask how much that change would cost, and then compensate you for it.
As fair warning though, I am trying to stay within a budget and writing the posts themselves is unpaid work I do (plus occasional helping hands during research stages, I consulted a friend who is an irl wetlands expert for ShadowClan's environment). I can't pay more than what we agree on.
"Can I link my info in the post?"
Yes. "Guest Artist" is going to be named in the opening paragraphs, along with any fundraiser, shop info, carrd, etc, you want there.
"Boosty?"
Yea I got Boosty. Paypal, too.
"I have some other question about pricing"
Feel free to ask, but my hard budget is 20$ - 50$ US. Please only inquire if you're willing to charge within that range.
"What if I'd do it free or I want to do this anonymously?"
I'll donate to a charity of your choice and link to it in the post. If you have no charity preference, I will link to RAINN, Anera, or The Trevor Project.
(Naturally this comes with an anti-ghoul caveat or two. If you try to get me to donate to something like Autism Speaks I will rotate every bone in your body by 45 degrees.)
"I like checklists, can you give me a checklist of info you want in a DM?"
Sure!
Your info; socials, carrd, shop, etc
General interests and strengths. Stuff you'd love to work on, or have insight to. If you like fishing or drawing bugs, I want to know that. If you particularly want to practice flowers, tell me. Be as detailed as you want so I can pair you with a relevant subject!
Your examples
General asking price (or charity)
Which, if any, of the four Opt-In Subjects you're opting in for.
Anything else I should know (triggers, phobias, things you dislike drawing, if schooling or disability means you need a particularly long turnaround time, etc)
#bone babble#If other questions pop up I'll add em slowly#Seeking commissions#Clan Culture#This would probably start up in a couple of weeks but collecting this info now is useful#If you're curious-- right now there's a HUUUGE one on Shadow's cultural overhauls#A really old one on flax processing that needs to be rewritten#One about parasites. Another on spiritual entities.#And a plan to answer like 30 individual asks by wrapping them all up in Woundcare 101#My ask count is close to 3k btw

''Excuse you, Miss Hunter!'' Rafayel quickens his pace as you playfully pinch his cheek, turning his head to the other side to escape your teasing. ''Oh, come on, Raf, just a little bite—I'm staaarving!'' You easily catch up to him and tug at his sleeve, admiring his flushed face, which you find so endearing.
It's been hours since you took a wrong turn during your trip, and now you're trying to find your way back to the hotel while walking through the picturesque landscape. Rafayel grimaces as your stomach growls again, still horrified by the suggestion you made earlier. ''No, MC! You can't munch on me! Even if you ask a hundred more times, the answer is always NO!''
Pretending to pout, you stifle a laugh at his reaction. Of course, you don't actually intend to do that, but getting a flustered response from your boyfriend is too much fun. You let go of his arm and continue walking beside him, an amused glint in your eyes. ''Fine, forget that! I bet you don't taste as good as your fish friends anyway.''
The merman scoffs at your words, raising an eyebrow as he tries to ignore your teasing gaze. He knows you're just trying to get a reaction out of him, so he decides to play along.
''Oh, yeah? Maybe I should just return to the ocean where I'm not being bullied then!'' He responds, his cheeks and ears turning a shade pinker as he walks. ''Is that what you want? For me to pretend you don't exist, just like those losers did?''
He turns his head to see your reaction, and his grin immediately falters when he notices the frown that has appeared on your face, suddenly aware of his mistake.
Ouch. That hurt.
''Why would you say that?'' You glance at your partner as a tiny knot forms in your throat, questioning his words. He had just casually thrown them at you without a second thought and now he is taken aback by your sudden change in demeanor. Rafayel's heart aches at the sight of the tears slowly welling up in the bright eyes he loves so much, and he immediately regrets his poor choice of words. He should have known better.
''You know how much this triggers me, Raf. How could you say something like that?'' You hear your voice tremble slightly as you try to maintain your composure, your steps slowing until you come to a halt. No. Rafayel would never intentionally hurt you, but his words have stirred up memories within you—memories you thought you had left behind.
Now, they come crashing over you painfully, and that familiar feeling of helplessness threatens to overwhelm your senses.
The artist straightens his back, his gaze locked on you with growing concern, reflected in his pink-blue eyes. He had no idea that the simple remark he made teasingly would get under your skin, and he feels terrible for it. How could he have missed that you were still hurting even after all these years?
''I'm sorry, Cutie. Hey... please look at me.''
He gently turns you toward him, his hands resting on your shoulders. He can't help but notice the hurt in your expression and silently curses himself for being the cause of it. ''I'm a fool for saying that... please... don't you ever think for a second that I would want that, Sweetheart.''
Tears roll down your flushed cheeks as you try to form coherent words from your trembling lips. The memories spin cruel, vibrant images in your mind and you try to shake them off somehow. Just moments ago, the mood was so light, and now you feel guilty for ruining it. ''It's not your fault, Rafayel... I just... it hurts...''
Rafayel nods understandingly as you struggle for words, his eyes watching you intently.
He has waited so long to meet you, his beloved bride. All he wants is your happiness, and the mere thought of you being distressed devastates him. He would do anything to ease your pain, erase your painful memories—even ignite his flames and set himself on fire if it could bring light and warmth during your darkest times.
''I know and it’s not fair, but what happened to you wasn't your fault—none of it. You've always been nothing but perfect, and you didn't deserve to be treated like that.'' Rafayel's hands move from your trembling shoulders to your cheeks, wiping away your tears with his slender fingers as his expression softens. ''And I will burn anyone to ashes who dares to say otherwise, alright?''
The beautiful Lemurian looks at you as if you are the only precious thing in this vast, ruthless world, and his tender eyes seem to seep into the cracks of your hurting soul.
''Please, can I see your smile? Let me see that beautiful smile of yours, so I can engrave it on the canvas of my eyes.''

Love at first bite
Max Verstappen x fem!reader
Summary- Y/n is a professional protection dog trainer, and an ex bodyguard. What happens when an old friend of hers calls in a favor: getting his friend some protection. The fans seem to love her, others not so much. Especially not her clients father. Her client enjoys her company maybe a little more then he thought after the first bite.
TLDR- a collection of series of events that ends with two people who didn't really know they were in love with each other until one confessed
Warnings- dogs and dog bites, mentions of aggressive fans, cursing, google translated dutch, Jos Verstappen, stupid warnings: author is a dumbass and pretends she knows shit(she doesnt), American spelling, I never spell check, also y/n is very badass and is kinds just built different, sorry I like writing badass characters/people, also this might be a bit ooc I'm sorry for that :/
A/n- AHHH okay so I kinda hate (hate as in thinking I could do better) and love this(?) I wish it was better written ngl but it is a oneshot so I wasn't able to go into more detail so I feel like the writing is a bit rushed sorry about that I promise I will get better in the future :,)

BREAKING NEWS: Fomula one driver Mav Verstappen got injured after crazy drunk fan attacked him.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
BREAKING NEWS: Max Verstappen revealed that he is looking into more security in an interview
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
"We're sure you've seen the questions around what happened immediately after qualifying. Can you add anything to that situation? Like with your current security?"
Max picked up the mic wanting to be anywhere but here "well I will be looking for personal security. As all the security that is normally seen around me is provided via the FIA." He said "But to speak on that manner any behavior like that should not be tolerated" he put down the mic as the interview turned to ask Lewis a question.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
After the interviews were over Max just wanted to relax and forget about the crazed fan. But before he could disappear into redbull hospitality he heard his name from a familiar voice.
"Max!" Lewis called stopping in front of him "Hey mate I think I know someone that I can call to help you with your security" he smiled
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
"Stellen" (bite) you yelled at Goose, which sent him barreling towards the man with the bite sleeve. Goose launched himself up and bit down on the sleeve. The man, Tony, aggressive, shook his arm.
You felt you phone in your pocket buzz with your familiar ring tone. You pulled it out and looked at the caller ID: Sir Lewis Hamilton. You answered the call before yelling "Loslaten" (out) to Goose who immediately let go of his arm.
"Hey Lewis what's up?" You asked as you waved off Tony telling him he's good to leave.
"Hey Y/n" he said dragging out your name a little
"Lewis" you said in a warning tone "what did you do?"
"Okay one rude, I didn't do anything." He huffed "but I do need a favor?" He asked
"What's up?" You asked again "it's not like you to ask for favors"
"Well: my friend, another driver, he had a fan attack him and he needs protection cause he doesn't really have a security team"
"Lewis I can't get him a trained dog in a day" you sighed
"I know" he said "but you're still a certified body guard aren't you?" He asked hopefully
"Lewis." You said
"I know it's a big ask" he said "but I was talking with him earlier and he's willing to pay big bucks for you to be protection for him AND train him a dog." He said
You sighed knowing that he'll continue until you say yes "fine" you said "when can I set up a meeting with him?"
"Uhh I can say next week tuesday? We can do whatever time" He said "cause after this race we have a small break then it's actually race week in Miami"
"Okay Lewis, I'll find a dog for him before then, and start training" you said "if you say he's serious about this then I'll belive you"
"Thank you so much" Lewis said "I'll let him know"
"Yeah yeah, bye Lewis"
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
You sat in your small office. You didn't use it much only for meeting with clients about protection dogs or getting their dogs trained, you wanted to have a atleast semi professional space due to your clientele.
A knock at the door cause you it sit up and stop spinning in your chair.
"Come in" you called.
The door slowly opened revealing a happy Lewis. Goose didn't move from his bed next to you instead looking up at the man.
"Hey Lewis" you smiled
"What's up?" He asked rhetorically as he sat in one of the chairs across from you.
Another man walked in behind him, he looked around the room as if taking it in, this must be Max the guy Lewis was telling you about.
"Hello its nice to meet you" you smiled as you stood up and extended you hand "my name is Y/n L/n"
He shook your hand "Max Verstappen" he said before sitting down
You did the same sitting in your chair "so I have been made aware that you're looking for a personal protection dog" you said "along with the fact in the mean time you're looking to hire my bodyguard services" you said as you pull up the contract you had drafted earlier on the computer.
"Uh yes that's right" the Dutch man said
"Okay" you said as you quickly checked over the document spinning your screen around so he can read it-
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
After discussing the contract along with pay you both sign it. Solidifying the deal.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
"Okay so now that we have that settled" you said as you stood up "we should have you meet your new dog" you smiled "Hier" (come) Goose got up and followed you out if the room the two men behind him.
You took out the keys and unlocked the kennel for a German shepherd pup "he's still a bit young, just under a year actually" you said "but he has the basics down so it's now just bite training" you explained
Both men nodded as they watched the pup and your dog Goose interact.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
Media day, the day Max wished didn't exist. He finally got out of his car as you approached him with Goose to your immediate left.
"Good morning" you smiled "large crowd at the gates, mostly photographers only a few fans, I recommend staying on the right side as you walk into the paddock" I explained "it's mostly photographers on that side and no interviewers"
Max nodded as you talked he followed your instructions. You put on your sunglasses to block the flash of the cameras.
Max made it past the hectic paddock entrance with you right behind him Goose walking by your side.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
As Max walked through the paddock he wasn't approached by any interviewers. He could get used to that.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
Max sat down ready to record some content for the redbulls media team. You positioned yourself out of the way but with a good view of everything as well as all the entrances.
Daniel soon arrived and noticed you almost immediately sitting down he leaned over to Max and asked "who's that? With the dog?"
"Oh that's, Y/n" Max explained "She's my new bodyguard"
"She looks badass" Yuki comments scaring the shit out of both Daniel and Max "where the fuck did you come from?!" Max shouts
You quickly looked over and watched the interaction, Yuki had been up there the entire time.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
As the recording came to an end you stood from where you were leaning. Watching Checo leave, followed quickly by Daniel and Yuki who look like they needed to be somewhere. Max started towards the exit you quickly followed him.
Begrudgingly Max sat down in front of a mic that had a big 'sky sport' on it. You stood just off to the side of the camera, completely out of frame and able to watch to one side of Max as you had Goose watching behind yourself.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
As Max answered the repeat questions he finally heard the one he's been dreading:
"So Max this morning you walked in with a lady who had a dog. Care to comment about that relationship?" The interviewer asked.
"She's my bodyguard" he stated
"She's your bodyguard..?" The guy asked like he didn't just hear him
"Yes."
"If you don't mind me asking why her?"
"She was recommended by a friend." Max said nonchalantly
"Sorry let me clarify my question" the guy said. Oh no, you knew where this was going. "Why not a male body guard they're stronger no?" He asked
"Are you insinuating that just because she's a women she wouldn't be a good bodyguard?" Max asked
"Well no-"
"No it's exactly what you're doing" he said "you media people always ask the stupid questions" he hissed "that is so fu-"
He was cut off by you "Max de camera staat nog aan" Max the camera is still on.
Instead of continuing he just gets up and leaves, cutting the interview short. You follow quickly, commanding Goose to walk next to Max as you figured Max didn't want to be approached by anyone. Scary dog privileges are the best.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
He opens the door to his driver room.
"Hier, blijf" (come, stay) you quickly rattled off to Goose who quickly went to your side and stopped next to you
Max also stopped in his tracks.
"Sorry" you quickly apologized "he's trained in dutch"
Max shook his head "no need to apologize" he said and then motioned you inside "but I don't want him out in this heat please come inside" he said
You weren't gonna argue with your boss "Volg" (heel) you commanded Goose as you walked into his driver room. Max walked in right behind you.
You stood off to the side as Max sat on the couch. He quickly motioned for you to sit down. You did just that.
Goose sat at your feet between you and Max. Max was obviously still pissed at what the guy said, you could see it on his face.
"You know" Max started "I've never been a dog person" he said "I like cats more"
"Huh," you said "I've always been a dog person" you said "started with the herding dog on my family's farm"
Max nodded as you talked before asking "can I pet him?" motioning to Goose
"Oh yeah of course" you smiled "as long as we aren't in a camera shot give him all the love you want" you chuckled "gotta keep his image up of a cold blooded killer, until the media finds my insta" you chuckled.
Max smiled as he ruffled Gooses head earning a lick from the dog.

──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
You and Max finally left his driver room as he had another media appearance with another interviewer.
Max walked in front of you Goose to his left. You grabbed the door opened it for him. You followed him inside "volg" (heel left), you told Goose who then fell in step beside you to your left.
You followed Max till he sat on the couch opposite of the interviewer. Instead you stood against the wall out of view of the camera.
"Okay" the interviewer said giving the signal to start rolling "so before we start with the questions: would you want to have your bodyguard sit down?" She asked, she sounded genuine
Max then turned to you "wil je gaan zitten? ze kunnen je vragen stellen..." (do you want to sit down? they might ask you questions...)
You responded "Ik vind het niet erg om vragen te beantwoorden. Wil je dat ik ga zitten?" (I don't mind answering questions, do you want me to sit?)
"Ik vind het prima als jij dat ook bent" (I am okay with it if you are) Max said
You gave a quick nod before walking over and sitting on the couch, next to Max. Turning to Goose you said "Bewaken" (guard), causing him to lay down in front of Max.
Turning to the camera the interviewer started "Hello everyone it's Stella here!" She smiled "and I am joined today by Max Verstappen and his bodyguard..."
"Y/n" you said "and Goose" motioning to your dog.
She smiled "and today we are asking the new, the old, and the frequently asked questions." She turned to Max "okay to start off, Max we'll start with frequently asked questions: do you think you'll win the 2024 world championship?" She asked already knowing the answer.
"Of course I will" Max said "if I don't have that mindset then I have no chance"
"Moving onto the old news: China after quali" she said "most fans just do wanna know what happened and are you okay"
"Well obviously I'm okay," he said "but the fan was drunk and belligerent after I was able to take the win," he said "knowing that he was outside of the paddock I shouldn't have left but I'm lucky at the security near the entrance was able to quickly get him away" he said "he surprised me honestly" he shrugged
"Okay now onto the new: your bodyguard Y/n" she said "everyone wants to know more about her" so that's why she wanted to have you on the couch.
Max quickly turned to you "Vind je het goed om te antwoorden?" (You good to answer)
You nodded grabbing the mic he held out: "it's a bit of a story but: I was actually the dog trainer for Roscoe, Lewis Hamiltons dog," you said "I'm a well known dog trainer in Miami I have trained several dogs for a lot of celebrities. Some for protection others just to have a trained dog" you said "but anyways Lewis called me I think the day of the incident" you thought "and we talked for a second and he asked if I still had my bodyguard certification" you said "which is really just a formality but for my job before I started training dogs I was security for a large club in Miami and we needed it" you explained "so after a meeting with Max we signed a contract that is basically me being his bodyguard with Goose until I have trained a dog for him" you finished, handing the mic back to Max.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
The drive to his hotel was relatively quiet besides the soft hum of the radio.
"When we arrive at the hotel do not get out" you said "keep the door locked till I have my hand on the handle" you explained "people are crazy here especially where your hotel is located"
Max nodded as you pulled the car up
You quickly got out shutting the door opening the door for Goose then opening the door for Max. People were everywhere, people shouting, some where drunk others just crazy. You quickly led Max to the entrance of the hotel and bid him a goodbye.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
Friday and Saturday were uneventful. But Sunday was race day, the day the MOST amount of people all week.
Walking next to Max, "rechts" (heel right), Goose moved to the right side of Max you walked on his left side. You were able to easily enter the paddock.
Finally its race time you placed the dog ear muffs over Goose to protect his ears. The had just finished the formation lap. The lights turn red one by one, then all go out hearing the infamous "lights out and away we go"
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
Lando Norris had won the Miami grand prix. His first win. Max was really happy for him. Wanting to go out to celebrate but not wanting to get attacked he turned to you:
"Y/n do you mind coming out tonight?" He asked "I don't want to miss Landos first win celebration, but I you know need protection" he joked
"Sure I'll baby sit you" you joked back. Little did you know that was basically what you ended up doing.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
As it was Landos first win they were going hard. You stood off to the side watching them all carefully making sure nothing happened to Max specifically. They decided to leave this bar going to the next. You follow them out walking just behind the group.
"Verstappen!" A drunken voice called, "why the fuck did you let that fuck boy win" the man slurred
Stepping between the two quickly "step back" you said firmly to the drunken man.
"What are you gonna do about it?" The man slurred
"Blaffen" (speak) you called, causing Goose to start barking aggressively grabbing his collar as he started going manic as he barked.
The man quickly backed away before almost bolting down the street you shook your head "foei" (no), Goose immediately stopped "Bewaken" (guard) he stood next to Max ready to start walking again
"We're good" you said to him and the group
─⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
Luckily nothing else happens that night. But not as lucky Max was beyond wasted. You were able to get him into the car and buckled him up shutting the door. You open the back door for Goose having him jump in. You got in and started driving realizing that you only knew where his hotel is and not his room you decide to drive to your house.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
Getting him into your house was an adventure. He was basically a dead weight, after an insane amount of effort you got him onto the couch in your living room and threw a blanket on top of him. Placing some advil and water on the coffee table next to him.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
As the job progressed and Max's new dog got trained many races were uneventful. The media attention on both of you had died down to what it was before Max got attacked. You are featured in some clips and interviews just answering the odd question or pulling Max away to get him out of range of anything dangerous. That is your job anyways.
The only big changes was social media: you stopped posting after getting a substantial amount of followers. People still comment on your old posts asking when your next post is. And the edits.. People are making edits of you and Goose being badass and it honestly makes you happy seeing all those cool edits. You'd take it to your grave but you love watching them in you bed late at night when you can't sleep.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
It was the Austrian grad prix. Lando and Max had gotten into it on the track causing Lando to get a dnf, and Max to drop to 5th place. He stormed off disappearing before you could catch up to him.
You eventually find him sitting in one of the chairs looking at the ground, with his helmet still on. As a man you don't recognize yells at him.
"Hey!" You shout storming over "back away from him"
The man with anger in his eyes glanced at you but went back to yelling at Max. Ypu quickly said "Blaffen" (speak) to Goose, he started barking at the man
"Get back" you commanded again
Finally he looked at you "Do you know who I am?" He asked all proud
"I don't fucking care who you are" you snapped "step away from my client" you said firmly
He turned back to Max and began yelling in Dutch to fast and angry for you to make it out. You were about to intervene again until the man raised his hand as if to strike Max
"Stellen, stellen" (bite, bite) you quickly commanded Goose letting go of his collar. The dog jumped up and bit the raised arm the force sending the man to the ground.
As this is happening Max watched it, he looked up just as you called for Goose to bite his father.
You followed your dog holding the man to the ground before commanding "Loslaten" (let go) Goose dropped the now bleeding arm. "Bewaken" (Guard), Goose stood in front of Max now defensively.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
Security arrived with medical and as they treated the dog bite you explained to them what happened pointing the the cameras around as well as a fan that recorded the entire interaction on his phone.
After a bit of talking and reviewing security bid you a goodbye and left. Citing that you were doing you job.
You then sat down next to Max who still hadn't taken off his helmet. "Who was that anyways?" You asked him as you quickly cleaned the blood off of Goose.
"My dad" he said muffled from the helmet
"Oh" you responded
"Yeah" Max said
The air filled with awkward silence before you said "let's get you back to the drivers room to cool down you still have interviews" Max just nodded making his way to his drivers room. You follow him inside Goose quickly settled by the door as you went to Max who sat on the couch with his helmet still on.
Reaching over you unclipped it and took it off, placing it on the table. Max took off his balaclava throwing it next to the mask.
"Sorry" you said "about your dad"
"I- no- uh" he groaned frustrated "You're fine you were just doing your job" he said a little snippy. He didn't want it to come out like that but it did.
You just nodded as he talked listening before saying "okay we gotta have you head to the media pen before someone yells at us and you get a fine" you said standing up
Max just nodded and followed you out if the drivers room.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
Media was done and all Max wanted to do was go back to the hotel. You don't blame him you'd want that too.
After the media pen Max was almost a shell of himself. So just to make sure he's okay you walked inside the hotel and got him to his room, you also needed to talk about earlier. When he opened the door to his hotel room and motioned you inside you were quick to oblige.
The room was nice it was similar to one of those one bedroom apartments just minus a kitchen.
Max settled down on the small couch letting out a sigh.
You just stood a bit awkwardly as Goose sat down next to Max's feet earning a few pets from the Dutch man.
"We gotta talk about today" you said breaking the silence
Max groaned "Do we have to...?" He asked
"I mean yeah" you said "Goose bit your father" you said "I'm sorry I didn't-" before you could continue he interrupted you
"You were doing your job" he said "you had no clue what he could have done or actually what he was going to do" Mac explained "you did what you thought was best to protect me. Which is your job" he leaned back on the couch and then muttered to Goose "thank you"
You ran through the situation in your head again. Jos, which you learned was the man's name, was actually going to hit Max.
"He was actually going to hit you wasn't he?" You asked him
Max stayed silent that's all the answer you needed
"Well now I wish I didn't tell Goose to let go"
Max cracked a smile, "thank you" he said this time looking up at you.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
Both you and Max were in his driver room. It was media day for the British Grand Prix, but Max had been waiting to hear back about his next interview as the time.kept changing. You thought that they just wanted to keep him here as long as possible.
Max was watching the small TV as he sat next to you on the couch. You were on your phone just scrolling through some random social media apps. Goose was laying down by the door.
While both of yall were waiting Max fell asleep next to you. Because of the way he was sitting when he fell asleep he was leaning against your shoulder. Eventually you fell asleep too.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
Later you slowly wake up but are held in place by some strong arms. You blink awake adjusting to the light. You laid on your side on the couch and where held in place by a sleeping Max. You tried to move to get up but were just pulled right back down. Giving up rather quickly you went back to sleep.
Max gently shook you awake. "Hey Y/n" he said softly, "we should head back to the hotel" he was blushing but it was kinda hard to tell in the lighting
You just nodded as I slowly got up and stretched quickly gathered you items.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
BREAKING NEWS: Max and Y/n seen leaving the drivers room late at night. What does this say about their relationship: Professional? Friendly? Or is there more?
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
"Mate you're all over the news" Lewis said to you on the phone as you got ready
"What do you mean?" You asked as you got ready
"You and Max were spotted leaving his drivers room late last night, together." Lewis explained
"Fuck."
"Yeah" he said "I'm at the track already and people are asking me about it"
"What have you been saying?" You asked leaving the hotel room Goose at your side
"I've been saying: I don't know the relationship, and that uh you're his bodyguard so whatever he was doing in the room you have to be there cause when he leaves you have to make sure nothing happens and shit"
You sighed "thank you Lewis" you said as you opened the car door for Goose and shut it before getting in yourself, and starting the car.
"It's no problem" the brit said "but are you two...you know..?"
"God Lewis!" You said "no we're no fuck buddies"
He just laughed "come on you knew I had to ask"
"I'm hanging up now" you said ending the call.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
After collecting Max from his hotel and you started driving.
"You seen the news?" You asked
"I have yes" an uncomfortable silence filled the car before you spoke
"Lewis said that he's been telling media that cause I'm your bodyguard I have to be with you basically 24/7 so we can just stick with that" you said "I mean it is the truth"
"Yeah" he nodded quickly, he didn't know that you knew he was cozying up to you on that small uncomfortable couch.
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
Media was lovely that day and respected both of you- said no one ever.
Several times you had to yell at people to back up or even push a few people away. And media was eating it up:
BREAKING NEW: Y/n L/n 'defends' Max Verstappen from media is it more than just bodyguarding?
BREAKING NEWS: Y/n L/n pushes away journalists, bodyguard or overprotective girlfriend?
BREAKING NEWS: Y/n L/n thought to be more than just a bodyguard, is Max taking the 'body' out of bodyguard?
──⭒─⭑─⭒────⭒─⭑─⭒──
The last title made you gag how does that get approved? It doesn't actually bother you to much but it's gross.
You sat on that uncomfortable couch reading the news, almost every single station had something about you two leaving the drivers room late, or about you pushing away journalists.
You let out an annoyed huff tossing your phone on the small coffee table. Max leaned over a bit to look at it.
"Why are you looking at that shit?" He asked
You just shrugged
The last articles name caught his eye he double checked "what the actual fuck" he hissed "this is bullshit, why the fuck would the title an article this" he was pissed. You don't know entirely why they weren't saying anything about him.
"I don't know" you just shrugged
"You aren't mad at this?" He asked before continuing "It doesnt matter, I'm going to go punch the fucker who wrote the article" not wanting him in any legal trouble, mostly cause you knew he would punch the guy, you stood up and quickly blocked the door.
"Nope" you said simply "the article title is just that: an article title. I know it's not true you know it's not true so why does it matter" you asked
"It's disgusting" he said "they shouldn't talk about you-"
You cut him off "exactly! Me they are only talking about me in a bad light so why do you car so much?" You asked a little ticked that he was still trying to get passed you
"Because I care about you okay!" He confessed "I know it's dumb, you're my bodyguard and I-" he was cut off by a kiss.
You didn't know how but you ended up kissing him. He quickly reciprocated grabbing your chin pulling you closer.
As you both broke the kiss catching your breath you rested your foreheads against eachother looking into his eyes you smiled.
"When did you fall for me?" He asked
"When we cuddled on that uncomfortable couch" you smiled he blushed
"I didn't know you were awake for that" he said softly
You chuckled softly "when did you fall for me?" You asked
"It was love at first bite" He said "when you were protecting me from my father."
Then they fu-
Fin.

seeing the influx of gfm campaigns on your dash may be overwhelming- the purpose of this post is to help others navigate through the many gfm links that are circulating here on this site- esp. those that find their way directly to you via your inbox. this advice is specific to tumblr- i cannot speak on other platforms (instagram, twitter, etc.) though some things i say may be applicable
disclaimer: i do not vet/verify any campaigns myself. i simply want people who are willing to engage with these types of posts to do so in a safe manner
read more below:
---
what to do if you get a message from an account claiming to be 🇵🇸 in your inbox:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0fba844c40fbee489f14d6520b1ab292/74aba37dd1109882-2d/s540x810/b8a03960aec7c5ae8f5844e407ba67ceec496069.jpg)
-> step 1: do not immediately dismiss it as spam
to quote one of nabulsi's posts:
"... you cannot generalise with Gazans if their tumblr blog is only a few days or a few hours old.
Gazans on tumblr are making accounts for the express purpose of spreading their fundraisers because it is spreading amongst Gazans that tumblr is a safe place to do so.
They could often be making multiple blogs and even remaking after staff flags them as spam. But don't blanket assume that Gazans are scammers if they're on a new tumblr blog with no pfp or content.
I agree that until a fundraiser is vetted you shouldn't reblog it in case it is someone dishonest taking advantage of the circumstances in Gaza. But you cannot do the opposite and immediately assume they're a scammer. I'm seeing people harass Gazans sometimes who genuinely are people who just don't know how to use tumblr and are falsely raising red flags because of it." (read full post here)
to sum it up: don't hit 'report' right away- marinate a lil and put on a detective hat
-> step 2: background check
the following are accounts that are known to vet/verify gfm campaigns here on tumblr. note- this is not a comprehensive list:
el-shab-hussein
nabulsi
90-ghost* (edit 8/4: recently announced that ahmed will no longer be vetting/verifying new campaigns)
ibtisams* (only has done it on situational basis; is not currently vetting new campaigns- read post here)
rubashabansblog (has been promoting other palestinians who lost their tumblr accounts; currently living under occupation)
heba-20 (unsure if heba takes request to vet others personally but is a reliable source for finding legitimate campaigns)
northgazaupdates
fairuzfan (says they are less active on tumblr these days/not currently vetting new campaigns but is a reliable source)
i recommend giving these individuals a follow if you haven't already as they provide far more information regarding all things 🇵🇸. they've all put in a lot of work to make the process i'm sharing with y'all as simple as possible. also please be respectful if you try reaching out to any of them. they are likely getting a high volume of asks and may not be able to respond to you quickly
important note: it has been recently announced that nabulsi + el-shab-hussein have stopped vetting new accounts for the time being and are only focusing on campaigns that have already been vetted. read their full statement here and here
to start- check out the person's account. this can be a hit or miss depending on how new the account is. however- you may notice that the person in question has stated that they have been vetted:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6a98286d236aa068437fee467a2bc626/74aba37dd1109882-3a/s540x810/cbc9bb14a70da862698db4e36e3f43ce46425188.jpg)
good signs so far- but better to be safe than sorry. next thing to do is search the username of the person who messaged you on tumblr. it's likely if you got a message like the one pictured above, others may have received one as well and did the digging for you:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3398ec3ebc2158904ab54dda920fafbe/74aba37dd1109882-13/s540x810/a3c78dc551824981459573793fcc44c897777563.jpg)
if you can't find a clear answer with tumblr's illustrious search bar/want to confirm someone's claim that the campaign in question was already verified, the next thing to do is check one of the following:
el-shab-hussein's pinned post
el-shab-hussein/nabulsi's google sheet
imo, this process is far easier to do while on a laptop/desktop vs. mobile app. ctrl+f is your friend in this scenario as is the ability to click through multiple tabs. for el-shab-hussein's pinned post, i click through the multiple lists and see if any names match. in ruba's case, she was found under List of fundraisers for my direct contacts from Ghazzah & Sudan:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/924a8c9da38958c35059308e736918f2/74aba37dd1109882-6b/s540x810/89b788db513a7292302b0e273558d83ef525918e.jpg)
and for the google sheet- her campaign is no. 90 on the list:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/382c168a968f1a445bce0ca3cd72b016/74aba37dd1109882-53/s500x750/a1db3f10c29b0095adc064152b5d449987b954a2.jpg)
tip: to narrow down your search even further- ctrl+f the title of the person's gfm campaign that they've linked on their tumblr account:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1edb9cebe9b63e7af7f8879fd2495f97/74aba37dd1109882-59/s540x810/9679bce05a3dfb3a2f9c545f4401e575f4eb7951.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4e9829e9e61e426671285e6a644481bf/74aba37dd1109882-36/s540x810/c7ccb49ebd464d63af3b52da63a9203d26dec2e7.jpg)
-> step 3: share your findings + follow that account
if everything checks out- ✨share le campaign✨ provide the link to it in your response to the ask + where it was verified. make it easier for the next person who gets a message to figure out that the gfm is real
following 🍉accounts is esp. important since the forces that be are keen on suppressing them at every turn. the more eyes on these accounts- the easier it'll be to determine the legitimacy of any new accounts they may need to make
---
okay, but... scams 😬:
-> step 1: seek a master
people can be assholes- and anyone trying to make a profit off of an ongoing genocide can eat glass
anyways- the following are accounts that are known to identify scam posts on tumblr (again, not a comprehensive list. these are just the one's ive seen/most familiar with):
mangocheesecakes
kyra45
kyra45's pinned post contains a plethora of resources to help determine if a post/message is a scam- and not just in regards to 🇵🇸- key goes in on many types of scams. please refer to their guides (and be sure that you are reading the most recent version of key's posts)
-> step 2: if you see sumn, say sumn
we're human and sometimes things slip our radar. so if you ever see someone on here sharing a known scam, do 'em a solid and let them know about it regardless if you are mutuals or not
---
final/misc. thoughts:
it's good practice to double check a campaign's verification with these tools for yourself regardless of how legitimate it looks. note that checking for a gfm's verification is not the same as verifying them. that work should be left to qualified individuals with experience in doing so. this is why it's bad to attempt things you are not qualified to tackle also- i think it's important to remember that transferring 💵 from a gfm campaign to those in need requires a lot of pieces to be perfectly set in place. if you see 🇵🇸 blogs linking alt. methods of raising funds (ex. p*ypal/k*fi) the reason could be that their gfms were frozen/suspended for a myriad of reasons. as always- check credible sources if you are unsure about a campaign you may come across notice how the spreadsheet provided here has over 100+ campaigns listed. generating a list that extensive requires hard work that is undoubtedly both physically and mentally straining to the individuals who are involved in making it. i've seen some accounts myself that have had to announce that they can no longer continue to vet campaigns because it has taken that much of a toll on their wellbeing. do not let their efforts go wasted
other resources:
some other places/grassroot organizations where you can find vetted campaigns:
operation olive branch (oob)
gazafunds
operation poppy flower (now also linked in oob's sheet)
operation watermelon
project watermelon
strawberry seeds collective
ottawa4palestine
camps breakerz crew
gofund(water)me(lons)

I think the key to understanding show!Aziraphale is in some lines that are in the book but not the show. Because these lines represent a place that our show Aziraphale hasn't hit yet.
Before I get into this, let me explain why I think things that aren't in the show can be so important to understanding where the show will go.
For another example, let's look at the ending of the book/s1. In the book, Adam is not impressed with Aziraphale and Crowley. There is no pep talk. He actually has a pretty stern message to them about "not messing people around."
A lot of s2 might not have worked the same way if they had gotten that message. It would have cut off room for growth. The whole plotline with Nina and Maggie for one would have been much less likely. So by holding off the stop messing with people message to the end of s2 (and then only giving it to Crowley), it provides more room for the characters to change at a pace befitting a multi-season show.
So what else do I think will end up working this way?
Well, there's a scene I love in the book that hasn't made it into the show yet. It happens after Aziraphale is discorporated. In the show, he goes to heaven, then to Madame Tracy. In the book, he bounces around possible hosts first, including a televangelist. The televangelist is going on about the rapture and such, and Aziraphale cuts in with this:
"Well, nice try...only it won't be like that at all. Not really.
"I mean, you're right about the fire and war, all that. but that Rapture stuff well, if you could see them all in Heaven - serried ranks of them as far as the mind can follow and beyond, league after league of us, flaming swords, all that, well, what I'm trying to say is who has time to go round picking people out and popping them up in the air to sneer at the people dying of radiation sickness on the parched and burning earth below them? If that's your idea of a morally acceptable time, I might add.
"And as for that stuff about Heaven inevitably winning...Well, to be honest, if it were that cut and dried, there wouldn't be a Celestial War in the first place, would there? It's propaganda. Pure and simple. We've got no more than a fifty percent chance of coming out on top. You might as well send money to a Satanist hotline to cover your bets, although to be frank when the fire falls and the seas of blood rise you lot are all going to be civilian casualties either way. Between our war and your war, they're going to kill everyone and let God sort it out-right?
"Anyway, sorry to stand here wittering, I've just a quick question-where am I?"
Because even this more cynical version of Aziraphale is adorable, the scene ends with "Gosh," he said, "am I on television?"
We didn't get this in the show, but I can't help feeling that it might be in season 3, assuming we get a season 3. It might even fit in better there, assuming we are going with a "second coming" plot. In the show, Aziraphale hasn't reached this level of cynicism (yet). I can't picture s1 or s2 Aziraphale giving this speech. Sure, he's seen what a mess the archangels are, he was willing to go against heaven to stop them from starting the end of the world, but I'm pretty sure show Aziraphale still believes in the goodness of God if not the goodness of the way heaven is run. It makes sense that show Aziraphale sees heaven as a fixable mess, an organization that isn't living up to what it should be. Because the show is taking Aziraphale's struggle with morally complex situations and questioning God and making it a longer arc.
My guess it that, as his tenure as archangel is likely to go terribly and not give him any more answers (or at least not answers he likes), he will get to the point where he could give this speech in season 3. My guess is that he's likely to also end up in a horrendous mental state once he reaches these conclusions (a perfect opportunity for some hurt/comfort). He's likely to build himself back up after that, but with a clearer look at the world.
End conclusion: if you are telling a longer story, sometimes you need to hold some things back to give your characters room to grow. So, it isn't a sign something is wrong with a story when partway through a character hasn't hit upon an obvious point.

In Losing Grip On Sinking Ships (15/22)
Chapter summary: You make a decision about Vision, the video, and your lingering feelings for your ex-wife
Chapter word count: 6.6K | Warnings: None | Ship: Wanda x Reader, Yelena x Reader
Author's note: If you decide to yell at me after this chapter, I guess this is a good time to tell you that I'm smol.
AO3 | Masterlist
Next chapter: Sixteen
--
Fifteen
Two sinners can't atone from a lone prayer - David Kushner "Daylight"
"Will you let me know once you figure out what you'll do?" Wanda asks, her voice wavering as remnants of dried tears cling to her cheeks, leaving faint trails in their wake.
You respond with a subdued sound of agreement, but deep down, you harbor doubts about your ability to follow through on your promise. The thumb drive still burns in your palm, and your clenched fist refuses to release it.
Alone in your apartment, hours after Yelena has departed for work, you find yourself replaying this memory time and again. Having taken the week off, your days are largely spent fixated on a particular file on your computer screen. That’s the last time you’ve heard from Wanda. Neither of you has made any effort to reach out since then.
“He recorded us having… having the affair.”
Your face involuntarily twists into a grimace of raw pain. Each breath feels heavier than the last, like you're dragging them from a place deep within you that you've been desperately trying to avoid. Your gaze remains fixated on the screen, eyes glassy, as if staring longer could somehow give you the answers you so crave.
A small, dark corner of your heart wishes you had gone further than just cracking Vision's skull with that vase, now knowing that he did more than violate a marriage.
You hover your mouse over the file.
"I’d take it all back if I could.”
Blinking rapidly, the strain in your smile grows more palpable, etching lines of tension across your face, until you’re gritting your teeth in an effort to maintain some form of control over your emotions.
But in the end, the tears well up and they spill over.
In the end, you can’t bring yourself to watch how Wanda chose to break your heart.
You delete the file from your computer, erasing any trace of the painful reminder. As you empty the trash bin, it feels like a symbolic act of letting go, even though the ache in your heart remains.
***
“Wanda? Did you hear what I just said?”
Wanda blinks, appearing slightly disoriented, as if she had been drifting away, coming back and forth to the present like a restless ghost. Calliope regards Wanda with a gentle caution, noticing that she appears different from her usual self this morning. There is a noticeable absence of her usual active engagement in conversation, with Wanda providing only succinct and dismissive replies to her questions.
“Hm?” Wanda's gaze focuses on Calliope, a flicker of apology crossing her features as she tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. “Sorry, could you repeat that? I... got distracted.”
“Wanda, I was asking about how you spent Y/N's birthday last week,” Calliope repeats with a soft smile.
Your birthday. It had been one of the best days in recent memory, a rarity considering the limited number of such occasions. And unfortunately, the joyous feeling it brought her was short-lived, lasting only two days before Yelena shattered the blissful bubble she was in.
"I, uh, baked her a cake, but it was more for my own enjoyment and for my customers,"
Wanda shares, and though her expression becomes slightly dreamy, it’s still tinged with despondency. “And then in the evening, we ran into each other by chance, and she treated me to dinner. All in all, it was better than I imagined."
“That sounds wonderful, Wanda,” Calliope says. "But how come you don't seem as happy about it now?"
“A lot has happened between then and now,” Wanda explains. “Her birthday isn’t the last time we saw each other. It’s actually just three days ago, and we, uh, didn’t exactly end that meeting on a good note.”
The only indication that Calliope looks slightly concerned is the eleven that appears in between her brows. Otherwise, her face remains soft and void of tension. “Can you tell me more, Wanda? But of course, only if you’re comfortable to share them.”
Wanda takes a moment to weigh her options. On one hand, there is legal information that she would need to disclose, but on the other hand, she can sense the possibility of her spiraling down if she keeps these things to herself. Ultimately, she decides to place her trust in her therapist and rely on the foundation they have built together, telling Calliope everything. She begins by recounting Yelena's visit and the subsequent confrontation with Vision. Then, with regret she describes the following morning when she visited you to give you an option to fight Vision back another way.
Calliope listens attentively, and though she usually maintains a professional demeanor throughout these sessions with her clients, she couldn’t help but inwardly sigh in relief that Wanda chose to talk to her about the crucial week she’s had.
There are at least a dozen emotional and mental implications for someone who had gone through what Wanda did in the recent days. As someone who lives and breathes science, Calliope doesn’t believe in good or bad luck, but this is one of those rare occurrences that she’s handling someone who’s gone and continues to go through a multitude of life-changing storms in just a year. Wanda's resilience is a force to be reckoned with, refusing to bow to the hardships she constantly faces.
“It must be beyond overwhelming to be confronted with such things at the same time,” Calliope says. She retrieves a pad and a pen from her desk and looks up at Wanda. “Do you mind if I write some of these things down? So we can go over them one step at a time?”
Wanda gives her a short nod, placing her complete trust on her therapist. Calliope proceeds to write on the pad and then suddenly, she stops and looks up at Wanda who’s chewing on her lip.
“When you learned that Vision filmed your trysts without your consent, how did that make you feel?”
Wanda feels the familiar coil of anger tighten in her stomach at the mere mention of his name.
Her response slips out slowly. “Violated. I–I know I’m half of that affair, and I have no right to feel like a victim–”
“Wanda,” Calliope quickly cuts her line of thought, dispelling right away the notion that just because she agreed to something, she agreed to everything. Even though the sex was consensual, the act of recording it without consent was a violation of trust and not to mention, a breach of the law.
“Your role in the affair does not negate the fact that you can still feel violated by this type of invasion to your privacy. You have the right to acknowledge your own feelings and experiences, separate from the affair itself." Calliope tells her.
Wanda presses her fingertips against her temple for a few seconds. “I feel like a victim to my own stupid decisions. I’m angry at Vision, but mostly I–I’m angry with myself.”
“Blaming yourself may be a natural response, but the responsibility for the violation lies with Vision. It's not a reflection of your worth or intelligence. You trusted him that time, and he betrayed that trust.” Calliope says.
Wanda is silent. It’s been a long time since she felt like none of Calliope’s words make sense. None could make her feel better at the moment.
Sensing that she’s not getting through to her, Calliope continues, “You don’t have to believe me right now. All of it is new, and you can take as much time as you need to face your feelings.”
"You know what else troubles me the most? I find it very difficult to reconcile myself with the married woman who slept with a kid all those times. Who is she, Calliope? And by asking this, I'm not trying to absolve myself of responsibility because she was me, but I simply can't comprehend how I allowed it to happen. If you were to ask me now why I entered into that affair, I honestly wouldn't have an answer for you.”
Calliope nods in understanding. It's not unusual for individuals to struggle with recognizing the person they used to be, even if it was just a year ago or even a week ago. Personal growth and experiences can drastically change people’s perspectives and actions, often leading them to question their past choices.
“We are always changing. You're a different person today than you were yesterday, even if the change isn’t that significant. There’s always something in us that’s changing, progressing, growing.”
“Why couldn’t I have grown back then,” Wanda mumbles in regret. I should’ve been able to prevent it. Things would have gone differently.
Calliope smiles, understanding Wanda's inclination to obsess over what could have been. “We only realize what's wrong within us when the signs become apparent, like having a fever. A doctor wouldn't say you're sick with a fever alone; it's just a symptom. There's an underlying cause. But the fever serves as an important indicator that your body needs treatment.”
Wanda sighs; she can’t think of any argument to that. “Maybe you’re right.”
And as she replays the memories of that day in her mind, a sudden realization strikes Wanda. There was a vivid detail from her conversation with Yelena that she had almost forgotten.
“Yelena said something,” Wanda begins, her fingers idly toying with the wedding band now adorning her necklace. “Something about Y/N not being completely hers.”
“Go on,” Calliope encourages.
“Do you think she was indirectly telling me that Y/N still has feelings for me?” Wanda's voice is tinged with uncertainty, yet her eyes shimmer with hope.
“Interpreting someone else's words can be subjective," Calliope says. “I want to be honest with you, Wanda–it’s always best not to read too much into it. Yelena's perception of the situation differs from your own, and her words might not necessarily reflect the true feelings or intentions of Y/N.”
Wanda's hopeful expression wavers slightly, a hint of disappointment flickering across her face. She nods, understanding the need to approach the situation with caution.
“I know it's easier said than done. Believe me, I struggle with it too, sometimes…” Calliope trails off as if reminiscing her own experiences, before continuing, “But whether or not Y/N still has feelings for you, your well-being should remain a priority. Overthinking and making assumptions can be detrimental to our happiness.”
Happiness. It’s elusive, and she wants nothing more than to hold onto it longer than a fleeting moment.

“Are you certain about this? Once we send this letter to his attorney, it cannot be retracted,” your lawyer states as she neatly organizes the pages of the counter demand letter into a folder.
“And if they agree to the terms, will it finally be over?” you inquire, seeking reassurance.
“Yes. I have drafted every clause to safeguard you from any future legal actions regarding the same matter,” she assures.
You take a moment to process the information before a new concern arises. “You mean, he won't be able to sue me in the future if he decides that $800,000 isn't enough?”
“No,” she says with a confident smirk. “If he does that you can sue him for double the amount.”
“That’s quite impressive.”
“It's what you hired me for,” she replies with a hint of pride.
After your lawyer leaves, you pick up your phone and dial Natasha's number. The ringing persists until a recorded voice message greets you.
“Hey, Nat? It’s me. Uh, when you get this call can you please call me back? I–” Your voice breaks, and you close your eyes, envisioning Natasha's stoic expression as she listens to your message. This silence between you is uncharacteristic, as you have never gone this long without talking to each other except when she's working. It pains you to realize the strain in one of the most important relationships in your life right now.
“I’m sorry, okay? I hope we can talk soon and I’ll explain everything. Please, Nat,” you say. “I don’t think I can handle losing you.”

“It’s a send off party for those who are racing the New York City Marathon this year.” you explain to Yelena as you stuff your socks into a duffel bag.
Since joining Valkyrie's running club, you have mainly trained alone, only joining the group for runs on two occasions. However, you've come to realize the benefits of running with others who are faster than you. It pushes you to increase your pace during tempo runs and has led to a faster rate of improvement in your performance. Wanda has chosen not to join the weekday runs with the club, and you secretly appreciate the opportunity to focus solely on running and enjoying the company of other people. Wanda never fails to catch at least some of your attention. It’s one of your more serious flaws.
“Yeah, I get that it's a party,” Yelena mutters, gathering toiletries from the bathroom to pack in her own bag. “What I don't understand is why the party is being held at a park.”
“You know athletes–we need some form of activity first before we drink the booze and eat the cake.” you say.
Yelena wrinkles her nose. That doesn’t sound like the parties she’s familiar with and knows how to enjoy.
“When’s the NYC Marathon anyway?” Yelena asks.
“It’s this Sunday,” you reply, organizing the items on your packing list. You realize that among all the things you need to bring, a pair of shoes and sunblock are the only essentials. The rest are optional.
“Are you running in it?”
“Nope. I wasn’t picked in the lottery.” you say.
Yelena's expression shifts to one of surprise. "There’s a lottery?" she exclaims, clearly unaware of the selection process. The idea of so many people willingly participating–and paying–to tire themselves out is baffling to her. Yelena tried jogging one time and only thought of it as a grueling experience. So this interesting trivia about marathons just leads her to the conclusion that people must truly have a fondness for pain and suffering.
That causes a laugh to bubble up your throat. "If you don't feel like coming, it's completely fine."
Initially, you hadn't planned for Yelena to join you, but since she expressed a desire to spend the day with you on her day off, you casually suggested she could come as your plus one. And since you knew how she felt about the sport that you do, you assumed she’d turn you down.
“How about we just stay in?” Yelena mumbles, wriggling her eyebrows in suggestion, making you laugh harder. “You know… Netflix, and the other thing.”
“As tempting as that sounds,” you reply, still chuckling, “I can't. I'm responsible for bringing a damn good apple pie for the potluck. People are expecting it.”
Yelena pouts playfully, feigning disappointment. “Well, I guess I'll have to settle for cheering you on then. Just make sure that apple pie is worth it.”
“I'll do my best. And hey, there's always Netflix and 'the other thing' waiting for us when we get back.” you say.
Yelena grins, satisfied with the compromise. “Deal.”
***
As you and Yelena arrive at The Great Lawn in Central Park, the sight of tables and chairs being set up in preparation for the event greets you. Shaun, the closest friend you made from the running group, approaches you, dressed in a similar fashion of running shorts over a base layer, dri-fit shirt and the latest Alphafly. Introductions are made, and Shaun takes the dessert from your hands, ushering you and Yelena to a table near the spread of food and drinks.
Yelena makes a quick remark about feeling a bit overdressed for the occasion, but you dismiss her concerns with a smile, complimenting her appearance, which prompts her to lean in and give you a long, tender kiss.
A kiss that your ex-wife witnessed as you catch her looking at you and Yelena from afar when you open your eyes at the end of it.
You’re unable to hide the look of surprise from your face because you weren’t expecting Wanda at this party. While everyone else confirmed their attendance, Wanda remained quiet, never participating in the conversations. Had you known Wanda would be here, you wouldn't have invited Yelena.
Yelena follows your line of sight, and then seeing Wanda, mirrors your surprised expression.
“Why is she here?” she asks, her voice holding a hint of accusation though she tried to hide it.
“I... don't know,” you mumble absentmindedly as your attention is drawn to the person Wanda arrived with.
Valkyrie.
“And why didn’t you tell me that Wanda also belongs in the same running group?”
You shift your focus back to Yelena as Wanda and Valkyrie engage with the other runners, their presence quickly absorbed into the conversations and exchanges happening around them.
“I honestly didn't think it was important to mention,” you admit. “Wanda hasn't been actively involved in the group–she never joins our runs.”
Yelena raises an eyebrow, and says, “Well, I think it's worth mentioning.”
“You’re right, I’m sorry. I didn’t know she was coming today. We all confirmed in the group chat and she never said anything.” you say.
“I get it, just remember, be open with me, especially about her,” Yelena says, her face softening. “I don't want to be 'that' girlfriend, but trust takes time. You not telling me the whole story about her doesn't help.”
“I'm sorry. It won't happen again,” you promise.
Yelena nods, pulling you in for another kiss. This one feels more intense, more insistent. Just as Yelena's tongue finds its way into your mouth, Wanda happens to glance your way. The sight causes her to promptly look away.
As Yelena's lips leave yours and she steps back, Valkyrie saunters over, her hands nonchalantly tucked into the pockets of her vest, a cheeky grin playing on her lips.
“Glad to see you again, Y/N,” Valkyrie greets, her gaze shifting to Yelena. “Who's this?”
You offer Valkyrie a tight smile and proceed to introduce Yelena as your girlfriend. Valkyrie extends her hand to Yelena, their handshake lingering a moment longer than necessary, with Valkyrie's thumb softly brushing the back of Yelena's hand before letting go. And then she excuses herself, winking at you both as she returns to Wanda’s side.
It might just be your intense dislike of this woman, but you can't help but worry about Wanda trusting someone who evidently likes to flirt.
As you slide an arm around Yelena, you both find a quieter spot, away from the buzz.
“You don't seem too thrilled about her,” Yelena notes.
With a small scoff, you try to dismiss it. “Valkyrie?”
"Yeah. Right there, when you say her name... It's like you'd rather jump off a cliff," Yelena remarks, noticing your disdain.
“She's just... too full of herself for my liking.”
Yelena gives you a knowing look. “You sure it's not because she showed up with–”
“Of course not,” you retort, a bit too quickly. Feeling the conversation veer into uncomfortable territory, you quickly reroute. “There's beer in the cooler, want one?”
Yelena is momentarily taken aback by the sudden shift, but she nods and replies, “Sure.”
They decide on a casual game of Ultimate Frisbee, as suggested by Valkyrie.
You find yourself on one team, while Valkyrie stands on the opposing side. In the sidelines, are your ex-wife and your girlfriend, both seemingly enthralled by the competition that’s about to unfold. You've never played this game before, but Shaun takes the time to show you the ropes of throwing a frisbee with a backhand and a forehand. He explains the rules, which turn out to be fairly easy to understand, given their similarity to soccer. The objective is to get the disc to the other side of the field and avoid turnovers.
The frisbee soars through the air, hurled by none other than Valkyrie to signal the start of the game. Adrenaline courses through your veins, as a fierce determination fueled by the seemingly permanent smirk on Valkyrie’s face propels you forward.
With every throw and catch, you channel your frustrations into the game. It's no longer just about Valkyrie, but also about Vision and the money he managed to extort from you. It's about Wanda and how closely she's watching your every move with something akin to regret and longing in her wide, green eyes. It's about the video you chose not to watch, yet its very existence continues to haunt you.
Valkyrie, agile and naturally athletic, matches your intensity on the field. Each time she catches the frisbee, you feel a surge of anger ignite within you. It's as if every point she scores is a personal affront to your pride. You relentlessly pursue her with a goal in mind to outmatch her every move.
The crowd cheers and gasps with each spectacular play. Wanda's eyes lock with yours, her expression caught between concern and admiration, and you return her gaze with a look of spite as you try to block the movements of the person you’re guarding.
In a pivotal moment, Valkyrie sprints toward the end zone as the disc flies in the similar direction. Taking this window of opportunity, you charge after her, consumed by a desire to tackle her to the ground.
With a surge of strength, you lunge forward with an aim to bring her down.
But fate has a different plan.
In the chaotic collision that ensues, you crash into Valkyrie with all your might. But the strong and sturdy body she’s paraded around for weeks proves to be impenetrable. As the dust settles, you find yourself sprawled on the ground, nursing a deep gash on your elbow. Valkyrie, remarkably unscathed, stands tall, a defiant smirk on her face.
Both Yelena and Wanda rush to your aid, much to your chagrin.
“What the hell was that?” Yelena yells as she leans over you with worry.
Wanda, keeping a cautious distance, chimes in, “Y/N, are you okay?”
Valkyrie, offering you a hand to help you up, dismisses the incident casually. “Oh, she's fine. It happens often in these games.”
Reluctantly, you reach out and steady yourself on Valkyrie's arm, disliking the fact you need her help in that moment. You take a couple of steps back from Valkyrie as soon as you find your footing and grab Yelena’s hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
“I’m okay,” you tell Yelena.
"You're bleeding," Wanda points out, eyes fixed on the wound on your elbow.
“It’s just a small scratch,” you argue, even as the blood drips from your skin and onto the grass.
“Sorry, but it's a general rule to sub out a wounded soldier,” Valkyrie cuts in.
You sneer inwardly at Valkyrie’s flowery choice of words.
“Come on, babe. I'll help you clean that up,” Yelena says, placing a hand on your lower back as she leads you back to the sidelines.
“I’ll get the first aid kit.” Wanda says. Yelena looks at Wanda over her shoulder and you hold your breath, anticipating their exchange. But your girlfriend simply offers your ex-wife a small smile and thanks her.
The night approaches rather quickly after the game.
Everybody helps pack up the picnic spread before the sun sets, as the group collectively agrees to move the party to a pub that Valkyrie claims she managed to reserve at the last minute. The bar she picked is also unbelievably convenient, only being a few minutes away from the park by foot. So, now, everyone looks at Valkyrie with a sense of awe, seeing how effortlessly she can organize a good time. You remain skeptical, however, suspicious that she’s planned everything in advance.
“This Valkyrie–is she some kind of socialite?” Yelena wonders aloud as the two of you enter the bar. Taking in its classy interior, you can tell almost immediately that reserving the entire area must have come at a hefty price.
You shrug in reply, walking straight to the bar to order a double right away.
Valkyrie hasn’t left Wanda’s side all day after the game. Your only interaction with Wanda so far was when she returned to where you and Yelena sat as your girlfriend tended to your wound. Although she didn't utter a word, a small smile graced her face as she handed the first aid kit to Yelena.
“Are you okay?” Yelena asks, rubbing your shoulder, trying to ease the tension she finds there.
“Just tired,” you answer, knocking down your drink.
“May I have everyone's attention, please?” Valkyrie's voice cuts through the blaring music, drawing everyone’s attention towards her.
“I'd like to take a moment to express my gratitude to each and every one of you for joining us at this event. Your presence is invaluable, and it greatly contributes to the success of this gathering,” she states, and you stifle the urge to roll your eyes. Valkyrie lifts her beer can, prompting everyone else to raise their drinks in unison. “Here's to our courageous participants of this Sunday's NYC Marathon. May you conquer the finish line with strength and surpass your own expectations. Cheers!”
With the toast complete, the assembled crowd joins in, raising their glasses and cheerfully clinking them together. Just like that, the party that Yelena is more amenable to officially begins.
Yelena mingles with the group of people who have come to support their partners' interests, all sharing a similar confusion about the appeal of waking up early to cover long distances that, typically, should not be covered by foot. You relax at seeing her chat with them animatedly, looking like she’s enjoying herself so far.
With Yelena occupied, you allow yourself a moment to sulk in a corner of the bar. As you look around the room, you can't help but think about how your lawyer hasn't given you any updates about the counter demand letter. You think about Natasha, who still hasn’t called you back. It makes you feel uneasy, not knowing where things stand.
You try not to think about Wanda, who currently has her head thrown back, laughing at something Valkyrie said. It strikes you that you haven't seen her so carefree in quite some time.
“Hey,” Yelena taps you on the shoulder, pulling you out of your thoughts. "Me and some of the girls want to go check out this band playing a couple of blocks away. It won't take long, just a few songs. Is that alright with you?"
“Sure,” you respond. “I'll be ready to leave when you get back.”
“Great,” Yelena replies, giving you a quick kiss on the cheek. “See you later.”
You observe Yelena as she happily leaves the venue with her new friends, while you catch the bartender's attention and order another drink.
An hour passes by swiftly, and there is still no sign of Yelena or any message from her. You take a break from alcohol and sip on water, trying to sober up in case Yelena gets back. Shaun tries to engage you in a conversation about World Marathon Majors and his aspirations to qualify for Boston, but your lack of interest is evident, and he eventually excuses himself to join Valkyrie's group. You notice that they are now playing a drinking game, and Wanda receives a shot glass from Valkyrie.
“Truth or drink, Wanda?” Valkyrie teases, hovering a bit too near Wanda for your comfort.
“Truth,” Wanda responds.
“Got anyone you're into at the moment?”
A laugh escapes Wanda, followed by a nervous gulp. “Actually, I think I'll take that drink,” she deflects.
Valkyrie's expression drops, clearly let down by the missed chance to pry into Wanda's love life.
“Since you dodged the truth, you're up for two shots,” she announces, her lips curled into a roguish smile. Wanda obediently follows, and you observe her wince as she slams back the tequila shots. A delicate flush on her cheeks hints that this isn't their first round.
You remain an onlooker as a series of questions are effortlessly answered by various individuals until Wanda is in the hot seat once again.
“Can I pass? I think I've had enough.” Wanda says.
“Oh, don't quit on me now. We're just warming up.”
Wanda offers a weak smile, then capitulates, “Alright. Just one more round, okay? Uhm, truth.”
Someone from the group throws the question. “Have you ever cheated on someone?”
Wanda's smile evaporates almost immediately. She forces a feeble laugh as she once again backtracks from her initial selection. Her gaze flickers towards you before darting back to Valkyrie, finding you already watching her closely.
“I think I want to drink for this one,” Wanda declares, going ahead to down two more shots in line with the game rules. The group cheers her on while Valkyrie, laughing, refills the emptied shot glasses.
Valkyrie finds herself intrigued. Wanda could've simply said 'no' if she hasn’t. She only becomes more fascinating in Valkyrie’s eyes knowing that she’s not as saintly as she looks.
The game continues, everyone takes their turn and it lands on Wanda once more. This time, she dismisses the drink pushed towards her. “I really should pass this time.” Wanda says.
Yet Valkyrie keeps pushing the drink towards Wanda, seemingly blind to her discomfort. Seeing this, you feel the urge to step in.
“She said no. Didn't you catch that?” you squeeze yourself in between Shaun and another girl who looks stunned at your sudden interjection. “Because I could hear her just fine from way over there,” you add, thumbing back at your former spot, some distance away.
“Chill out, we're just having a good time.” Valkyrie shrugs.
“Fucking respect her boundaries, okay? She’s had enough. And she has good reasons to avoid it, trust me.” you assert, your eyes narrowing slightly as you emphasize your point.
Almost immediately, Wanda stands, her lips clenched and her face flushed with annoyance.
“I’m gonna go get some air,” Wanda says to no one in particular.
“Need me to come along?”
“Just stay here, Val, okay?” Wanda interjects, her voice softer as she deftly maneuvers past you.
Your heartbeat quickens as you trail after her.
“Wanda, wait!” you shout, pushing through the crowd.
She pays no heed, her steps resounding heavily as she marches on. Her shoulders are stiff, her movements terse. You can almost sense the anger radiating off her like a dark halo. Chasing after her, you weave through the throng of nosy people who are all looking at you openly, as they watch the commotion continue to unfold before their eyes.
A second later, the door shuts behind you, effectively muffling the music from inside.
Wanda has made it a good distance from the pub, her silhouette illuminated by the soft glow of the moon.
“Wanda!” you call out again, your voice softer this time, carrying a note of desperate concern.
At your call, she finally stops.
She stands frozen for a moment before turning to face you. Her face, usually so tender and kind, is etched with an unusual hardness now.
“Why did you do that?” she asks, her tone unexpectedly steady.
“What are you talking about? It was clear she was pushing you into drinking more than you wanted. I simply backed you up there–for which, by the way, some gratitude wouldn't hurt,” you snap back, irritation seeping into your tone.
Wanda's empty laughter rings out in the quiet night. “You practically just implied to everyone that I have a drinking problem!”
“Don't you?” you hiss through a sneer. “I remember getting a call from the person you cheated on me with because you were almost passed out on the street after a night of excessive drinking.”
Wanda visibly flinches, her body recoiling as though she’s just been slapped. The instant your words escape your lips, remorse floods over you, your chest heaving as you catch your breath. Watching the shock on Wanda’s face slowly shift into a profound sadness only deepens your regret.
“Wanda–”
"Thank you... for standing up for me earlier. Good night, Y/N." she murmurs, her voice barely above a whisper. With those words, she turns her back on you and starts to walk away.
You think about stopping her, but you’re too ashamed of yourself to do anything.
For the next few minutes you just stare at the spot where Wanda stood, haunted by the look of hurt on her face. In the distance, Yelena’s unmistakable voice reaches your ears, signaling her return.
‘Hey, baby!” she slurs, elongating the final syllable, leaving no doubt in your mind that she's drunk.
You approach Yelena, keeping your steps hushed, while she bids farewell to her companions.
“Ready to head home?” you ask in a calm voice.
Yelena's face lights up with enthusiasm as she eagerly nods. Taking her hand into yours, you signal a passing cab.
Later, a little before midnight, your pretense of sleep is broken by the piercing ring of your phone. The truth is, you haven't slept a wink, instead lying still with eyes closed, the happenings of the day replaying ceaselessly in your mind. You pick up the call immediately, taking care not to disturb Yelena's peaceful slumber beside you.
“Y/N?” Wanda's voice comes through the phone, quaking with fear. “I came home and there's… there’s sick all over. Sparky... he's…” Her words fragment into inconsolable sobbing.
“Hey, hey. Just stay calm, okay? I'm on my way," you reassure her before ending the call. You turn to Yelena, sprawled unconscious on the bed. With delicate motions, you snugly wrap the comforter around her and carefully place a pillow under her arm that was previously draped over you. You plant a kiss on her temple before dressing up quickly to meet Wanda.
Around 1:30 in the morning, the veterinarian steps out of the examination room to announce that Sparky is now stable. Wanda's eyes are puffy and bloodshot from crying, but she pays careful attention to the doctor’s report on Sparky’s condition. The situation was critical, but thankfully, Sparky has rallied, his vital signs settling back into normal ranges. Despite this, the vet recommends keeping him under observation for an additional 48 hours to ensure his continued recovery.
You settle the bill out of your own credit card and escort a grief-stricken Wanda back to her apartment. You instruct her to get comfortable on the couch as you move around the kitchen and prepare yourselves a cup of tea. As you re-enter the living room, you notice Wanda remains in the same position, her gaze fixed on Sparky's dog bowl, a few kibbles still left untouched.
“Do you remember when Sparky first became a part of our lives?” Wanda asks suddenly.
You nod solemnly, settling down beside Wanda as you hand her her tea. She accepts it gratefully, cradling it in her hands to soak in its comforting warmth.
“It was on your 25th birthday, and he was my surprise gift for you,” you recall with a hint of nostalgia.
“Your sneaky way of adopting him without telling me,” Wanda retorts, finally managing a small smile.
The fond memory brings a soft chuckle to your lips. Wanda had never been keen on having a pet, especially in your small Manhattan apartment. But Sparky quickly won her over within just a couple of days. She would serenade him with renditions of "You Are My Sunshine" every day for a week, until she eventually grew tired of the song and moved on to another tune to sing to him.
“I always knew that we would outlive him. But it's just too soon,” Wanda sniffles, new tears welling up in her eyes. “He deserves more years. I want him to stay with us for as long as a dog possibly can.”
“Me too,” you sigh.
Before you know it, you’re gathering Wanda into your arms. She instinctively nestles her face into the crook of your neck, tears dampening your skin. Your hand gently rubs soothing circles on her back, while your other hand softly strokes her hair. In a hushed voice, you whisper reassurances, telling her that everything will eventually be alright.
When Wanda’s trembling subsides, you feel her shift in your arms. And as you begin to lean your head back from where it’s resting on her shoulder, a magnetic force seems to hold you in place, and you find yourself unable to completely let go. Your forehead ends up resting against hers, watching her calm face in silence. Her eyes stay closed a bit longer, and when they eventually flutter open, you're captivated by the most perfect shade of green, and in that moment it becomes perfectly clear to you that you love her and you never stopped.
Not even then.
A hint of worry appears in Wanda’s deep, emerald eyes as she meets yours. “Y/N–” she starts.
But her words get lost as your nose delicately grazes against hers, and your lips find hers in a clandestine kiss.
She responds to your kiss instinctively, and you merge in a manner that's both wonderfully familiar and refreshingly new. Your fingers trace a soft path across her neck before firmly cradling it, eliciting shivers that ripple through Wanda, right to her core.
The need for breath brings an end to the kiss, and you part from Wanda's lip with a slight wet sound. You take in as much air as you can, ready to lean in once more. But before your lips can meet hers again, she gently places a hand on your chest, giving you a gentle push.
“This... this isn't right,” Wanda stammers, pulling herself back from you. The spot on her neck where your hand rested is warm, the embers of your touch still smoldering as she tries to extinguish the fire you had sparked within her. “We can’t do this to Yelena.”
“Wanda, I–”
“You’re better than me,” she reminds you. “I’m sorry.”
It feels as if you're being jolted awake from a surreal dream, and you instinctively distance yourself from Wanda. Her eyes, filled with worry, attempt to meet yours, but you evade her gaze, the gravity of your actions slowly sinking in.
In a heartbeat, you find yourself bolting from her apartment, your feet pounding the pavement beneath as if trying to outrun the harsh reality of what you’ve done. You just betrayed Yelena. You'd just kissed Wanda. And you don’t know what was more frightening: your actions, or the fact that part of you didn't regret it.
In the waning hours before dawn, sleep proves stubbornly out of reach. The lingering taste of Wanda's kiss and the guilt eating at your conscience keeps slumber at bay. You had done to Yelena the very thing that ruined your life. You spent these hours looking at Yelena’s sleeping face, knowing that this may very well be the last few hours you get to be this close to her.
And just as your eyelids begin to droop, Yelena stirs, slowly waking up.
Yelena hums as she stretches like a cat, and then blinks up at you, a smile already working its way to her lips. Your heart is ringing loudly in your ears by now, making it impossible for you to mirror the delight on your girlfriend's face.
“Hey, is something wrong?” Yelena asks, concern creasing her forehead as her hand lifts to cup your cheek.
“Yelena, I–” Your gaze drops, focusing on the unforgiving reality of the mattress beneath you, avoiding her piercing eyes as you muster the courage to confess. “I… I relapsed–”
“Don’t,” Yelena's voice cuts through your racing thoughts, her intuition already piecing together your next words. "Don't say it."
The silence that looms over your heads is oppressive and suffocating.
“This has gone on for long enough,” Yelena finally declares, her tone resolute. “I have to go.”
“Wait, Yelena–” you stutter, your mind scrambling to string together a sequence of words that might lessen the blow of your betrayal. “Where will you go?”
“Somewhere far away from you,” she replies, her words carrying a frosty undertone.
It stings. And you deserve it.
With that, she gets up and leaves the room, leaving you to the wreckage.

One of the last things Jake had said to you before he'd left was that you should talk to Josh. And that was exactly what you hadn't done.
In fact, you’d let two weeks slip by like sand through your fingers without poking or prodding the topic even once. You’d clung to your avoidance like battle armor and if you were honest with yourself, you feared losing Jake just as much as you feared losing Josh.
So you and Josh hadn’t spoken and nothing had changed, nothing other than the fact that it felt Jake had been keeping his distance. Or maybe you were just more sensitive to his absence now that it felt necessary.
Damn him for being a good brother. For being better than me.
He was better than you, it seemed. Because he had put you to bed two weeks ago and left under the impression you were going to do the right thing and instead, you'd avoided your problems and had once again come running to Jake to have him make you feel better.
No, not to make me feel better. Just to play a stupid game. That's all.
He must have heard the honk of your car locking because you had barely made it to the front door before he was suddenly standing there in your way, a look on his face that somehow tangled caution and amusement into one jumbled mess expressed as a half-quirked smile and eyebrows that dipped low in the middle of his forehead. It was an expression that quite matched how you felt, butterflies and guilt and all.
“I take it you two didn't talk.”
Is it that obvious?
“What a way to greet a lady,” you said with a sudden scowl as you pushed past him through the doorway and led yourself to his kitchen.
To say you weren’t quite ready to broach that topic would have been an understatement.
“Why do you seem so chipper?” he asked from behind you as he followed your path through his home.
“I can't be happy to see you?” you threw back at him as you dropped your tote bag off your shoulder and onto the pristine marble of his kitchen island with a familiar muffled clang of a glass bottle shrouded by thin canvas to dull the promise it rang out into the air as it was set down. A little something for the soul.
“I guess I’ve admittedly grown a little bit more used to being greeted with tears. But this is a nice change.”
He gave you a sweet smile but paired with the way his eyes seem to wilt at the outer corners, you could see the sadness it held. It reminded you of the guilt you carried around with you constantly lately, only with a new object of affection. How selfish of you to think that this hadn’t taken any toll on him at all.
Your eyes turned soft. “I'm sorry. I am. You've been my sunshine these past several months. I hope you know that.”
Even as you said it, you knew it couldn’t begin to articulate what it was you really felt for him. But it was enough just to see the rose of a deep blush tinge his cheeks red and turn his smile suddenly bashful.
“Happy to provide,” was all he said in that typical, raspy, almost sleepy voice of his.
It was hard not to chuckle at the things he found too intimate to take in stride. It was fine for him to call you what he had in bed but heaven forbid you call him your sunshine…
“Don't think I didn't notice you dodging my original question though,” he added, breaking your concentration.
Oh yeah. My problems. How lovely of him to remind me.
You quirked up an accusing eyebrow. “Like how you dodged my compliment just now?”
“Ever so expertly,” he answered, this time with an unabashed smile that spread his lips wide across his face.
You felt your gaze dart away before you could even stop it, a heavy sigh pillowing in your chest before expelling into the air like a pot on the stove blowing off steam to keep from boiling over.
“I need one night of just…not talking about it.” You’d had plenty of nights of that, actually. What was one more? “Or thinking about it, preferably.” And then to really catch his attention and maybe even further drive home your point, you reached into your bag to uncloak the wine.
There was a specific smile he always donned when alcohol was present and when it took hold, you knew you could take it as an agreement to drop it, at least while there was a full bottle to contend with.
He took it from your grasp with only a dutiful nod, turning the dark glass over in his hands to inspect the label despite the fact that he likely knew nothing printed there would catch his eye. You had one sense of taste that trumped all others when it came to using fermented drinks to bandage your wounds: cheap.
“What am I if not a seasoned distraction?” he asked, already digging into a cupboard to procure two large, round glasses.
“That's why I seek you out,” you answered with a smile as you watched his hands work and tried your hardest not to think back to that first time he had served as your distraction.
“Well, hopefully that’s not the only reason.”
It was that comment that caught you and sent your stomach into a twist unbecoming of someone who was very much not single, especially given the way it suddenly brought the memory of your second time to the forefront of your mind, a time when it was hardly a distraction so much as it was a necessity in that moment.
No, distraction wasn’t the only reason you were there. Comfort either. You’d grown to long for his company in a much deeper way. It wasn’t company in general he was providing you with, it was his and his alone.
And the game, of course. Mostly that.
“What's on the agenda for the night?” Jake asked as if he hadn’t just sent you into a deep spiral of thought that you’d been hoping to avoid that evening.
At least he’d been kind enough to pour you a glass of wine without you asking.
“I brought candyland since you owe me a rematch for what you did last time.”
The memory of your pieces scattered on the floor along with every card in the deck like a colorful patchwork quilt that you'd made him clean up both times he'd done it brought an earnest smile to his face.
“I'll flip the board again if you don't let me get tipsy first.”
You certainly didn't have to wonder if he was serious so with the preservation of your game in mind, you agreed with a nod and a, “Seems fair to me,” as you reached out for your wine. But he was already retreating by the time your fingers reached the air that the temptation in a glass once occupied.
“Come here,” he said with a mischievous look overtaking his face. “Something I want to show you.”
This time it was you left following him through his home, both glass stems tucked snugly between talented fingers like he was beckoning you to chase him if you wanted yours. And you did want yours. That was why, despite the sudden flurry of nerves that his look seemed to conjure in your chest, you did as you were told and followed him.
I swear to God, if he's talking about his dick…
You actually weren't sure what you'd do. Probably not the decent thing.
But to your surprise, he led you to a usually barren room save for the red Persian rug warming the middle and the walls outlined in vintage instruments ready to be plucked off the wall and played. Except today, the center of the room wasn't barren as it had been for months.
The room opened up to greet you with a warm mahogany welcome in the shape of a baby grand piano that instantly made your fingers itch. It wasn't so different from the piano you'd been toying with at the party where you and Josh had met. Of course, you weren't as good a player as he was but you certainly knew your way around.
“Figured we rehearse here enough it was worth the investment,” you heard Jake say from behind you where he now stood watching as you carefully perched yourself onto the little matching mahogany bench.
“My God, she is beautiful,” you breathed as you opened the fallboard to uncover a full set of vintage ebony and ivory that seemed to practically yearn for your touch.
Your fingers danced out a quick melody that warmed your joints as much as it did your demeanor. You hadn't played much lately. Actually, you hadn't really played at all. But there were some things that stuck with you, worked their way into your bones, maybe into your very DNA. And this was one of them.
“Does this mean you're going to learn?” you asked, turning your focus back to him as you swiveled to find his face.
“I'd need a teacher for that and I refuse to let Sam fill that role.”
He gave you a cheeky smile that you read instantly. It was an open invitation for you to take on the role of said teacher, so you stood and, taking your wine glass from his hand finally, made a grand sweeping gesture toward the now unoccupied piano bench.
He took his seat, pretending to throw his imagined coat tails over the bench, earning a giggle that swished the wine in your glass. You hovered not too far behind him as he cracked his knuckles and cleared his throat, making a quite thorough display of his preparation only to put fingers to keys and press out one of the more off-key renditions of twinkle twinkle little star you'd ever heard. And he was met with another giggle that seemed to only encourage his actions.
“Oh that's amazing. You must teach me your ways,” you joked with a smile as you set your glass down on the floor just out of the way.
“Save me, please,” he answered with a hoarse laugh, finally slowing his fingers to a halt but keeping them positioned on the keys.
You approached him slowly, coming up close behind his back to stretch your arms over his shoulders and let your fingers find rest overtop his just as delicately as your chest grazed the wide plane of his back. You could smell his cologne strong on his neck as you guided his fingers to better position them amongst the keys, your breath dusting his cheek with each exhale. And you swore you could almost tell that he was holding in a breath if you paid close enough attention to the movement in his shoulders that seemed to have suddenly stilled.
Somewhere among your skin resting against his and your hair tickling his neck, the world around you seemed to grow still and quiet, fading into a background of white noise and blurred lines. And then you pressed your fingers more firmly into his and a striking chord sliced through the air alongside whatever breath Jake had been holding.
“There, just like that,” you said in a voice far shakier than you had hoped it would turn out to be.
But he was silent, letting you guide his fingers slowly up to a new chord, or outstretching a pinky to hit a further key as yours nudged it, never saying a word. He let you play that way, through him, feeling the notes through the strength and dexterity of his talented fingers that fit so snugly beneath yours and obeyed your every command.
“I knew I was good at something,” he joked in a whisper that barely traveled up above the note lingering beneath your hold until he turned his face dangerously to the side to face yours.
It brought his nose only an inch from yours but what felt even more dangerous were his eyes and the quick flicker they made to your lips, resting parted and practically panting. You didn’t even realize your own breathing had picked up until you suddenly became aware of the heat reaching your palms, heat he could likely feel radiating through his skin still resting beneath yours. And just as quickly as the moment had been conjured, he turned his face back to his hands and yours retreated entirely just before you darted over to your glass of wine to down the contents while he continued to fiddle with keys.
“You're a good student,” you commented as evenly as you could as you took a seat on the bench next to him. A much safer spot than where you had been.
“You’re a good teacher,” he answered with a quick flash of a smile in your direction, fingers still tripping over keys and filling the air around you with a disjointed music that you admittedly didn’t mind.
“Well, maybe not as good as you.” It came out rather absently as you had taken to fiddling with a random key yourself, turning your attention to that instead of the familiar pounding of your heart in your chest, a rhythmic reminder of the effect Jake had on you.
When he turned to face you again, you could feel his eyes hot on your cheek. You wanted to be brave and face him but there was something about his knowing gaze that made you feel that much more defeated. You felt like a terrible person, in all actuality. How could you have fallen for your boyfriend’s brother? Was that actually what you had done or were you just using him like a bandaid? Did you even know anymore?
Maybe it’s just the sex I like.
“Is that why you're here?” he asked, his gaze somehow even hotter than before. “You need another lesson?”
God, can he read my mind?
For a brief moment, you found yourself debating it. It didn’t feel like that was what you had come for but you certainly weren’t ignorant to the need that radiated through your body every time he so much as glanced in your direction. But you also weren’t ignorant to just how wrong it really felt. However it had felt that first time, hesitant as you had been, the glances you stole now didn’t feel that way. They didn’t feel harmless. They didn’t feel like something Josh had signed off his approval on.
And for now, the guilt rang strong enough through your body to stop you from doing something worse.
“I'm here to beat you at candyland,” you answered, eyes finally braving his face only to be greeted by a smile that seemed to be growing by the second.
“Well that's just not going to happen.”
—
“That is cheating!” you yelled over the board as you angrily moved Jake's piece back several spaces behind yours.
“It is not, my piece was planning on being there this whole time,” he argued back, grabbing it from your hand to return it to the space he had just placed it on with his hand that wasn't gripping his wine glass like his life depended on it.
You weren't sure if it was the booze or the antics of the game, but his British accent was starting to slip out the more uncivilized he got and you were trying your best to be stern despite the smile it was holding permanently to your lips.
“It doesn't matter what he was planning on, you didn't roll high enough to go that far!”
He gave you a displeased shake of his head as he finally took his piece back, “accidentally” knocking yours over in the process.
“I don't think you're playing this right,” he mumbled before chugging the remaining contents of his third glass of wine.
“I'm sorry you don’t get to just do whatever you want,” you laughed as you wrestled another card out of his hand seeing as it most certainly was not his turn.
“Well that is too bad, isn't it,” he said gruffly although even he was struggling to keep the smile off his face and commit to the bit.
The day had grown so late that darkness had finally come to greet you and this was your third attempt at a civilized game, which you were beginning to think was simply impossible with Jake. He just couldn’t seem to stop cheating.
Let’s not read too much into that.
By the time you had maneuvered all of the cards away from him thanks to that all-too familiar gleam in his eye, he sat back in his seat to let a comfortable silence grow between you both, silent glances exchanged as a buzz settled over you both. But in the silence and the calm grew that familiar heat, a buzz brought on by more than just the alcohol consumed that night. There was something about it, those quiet, gentle moments, that turned the volume of tension about the room up several levels, like you couldn't trust yourselves to be around one another in such a still moment without busying your hands and your bodies with one another. Like you were always just waiting for the next opportunity for it.
That was how it felt: like you were waiting. And suddenly in the haven of golden light in your little secluded pocket of the night, in the quietness of his gaze trying to stay fixed to anything but you, you felt you shouldn't be there.
Why had you come?
Jake cleared his throat and nudged your empty wine glass. “You want more?”
You gave him a light shake of your head and an answer just as soft. “I'm driving.”
He nodded in return and cast his eyes to his hands. He almost looked nervous. Why would he be nervous?
When he met your eyes again, you could tell he was searching your face for something. But what it was he was looking for, you had no idea. And if he found it, you had no idea of that either. But as you gazed back, you found yourself unable to look away, unable to hide your face or your eyes or your feelings from him. Whatever it was you were feeling, you let him see it there on your features like a book written just for him.
It's him I want. That's why I came.
It seemed to hit you all at once and suddenly the need for action seemed just as real.
“I guess I should go.”
Before I do something I shouldn't.
He nodded again, adding an almost silent “okay” that somehow made the task of getting up all the more hard. But somehow, your feet shuffled and your legs moved and your body, which seemed to be of much more sound mind than your actual mind, moved its way to the kitchen sink, wine glass in hand.
“You don't have to do that,” you heard Jake say from behind you.
Close behind you.
“I don't mind,” you answered quietly as you continued to turn the faucet on and rinse the glass.
That was when you felt him at your back, arms emerging from either side and his hands, practically shaking, entwining themselves with yours to steal the glass away from your grip.
“Here,” he whispered, “let me.”
Fuck.
You weren't exactly sure what it was that suddenly surged through you but the moment the glass was set safely on the counter, you turned into his arms to face him, lacing your fingers into his shirt buttoned ever so lazily. And the move brought your mouth mere inches from his, your bodies practically pressed tight to one another.
There was greed on your lips, greed you wanted him to taste.
“Jake, I want you,” you whispered without even an ounce of shame, finally giving in to what you had been fighting all evening.
It was met with his eyes winding tightly shut as a blow of frustrated air pushed from his lungs. “Don't do that to me,” he shook his head. “That's not fair.”
“You're right, it's not fair-”
Your lips were practically on his when he suddenly pulled back several steps, out of your grasp.
“This can't happen,” he said sternly, although whether that was for you or for him you weren't entirely sure.
What you were sure of though was the embarrassment seeping into your very being. And then the guilt. They seemed to freeze you in your place.
God, what am I doing?
What was worse was that you had thought he wanted you too. Had you read it all wrong? Had you read everything wrong? Was he only entertaining you because he could see your desperation so plainly in everything you did? Was it only pity he felt for you?
Josh had no time for you and now Jake didn’t want you either.
You took a few steps away from the sink, aimless, wandering, before your face fell into your hands, to hide it, to soothe yourself, to try and disappear.
“I’m sorry,” you repeated frantically, practically in a panic. “I don't know what I'm doing. It's just…it's not working.”
“You need to tell him that.”
God, the sympathy you now heard in his voice might have made you feel even worse.
“He knows that.”
“Babe-”
“I plan to,” you burst suddenly, hands falling away from your face to make way for the much louder sentiment, as unsure as it sounded. “I'm going to,” you repeated, “I just thought…”
You trailed off into nothing, totally defeated. You weren’t sure what you had thought but god, you were tired of this. Why was this so difficult? Why was this so complicated? Why hadn’t Josh just shown up like he was supposed to?
You looked to Jake somehow hoping he could give you the answers you were searching for but he looked just as confused, just as lost. And the longer you looked the more he looked…something else entirely.
“Why are you doing this?” he asked almost desperately.
You stuttered. “I mean…I think it's obvious. Or…maybe it isn't, I don't know, I just-”
“We can't be together,” he suddenly blurted out.
If his previous rejection hadn’t hurt, this certainly did. And it brought back to you the words he had said two weeks ago on the couch over pizza and comfort, only this time they seemed to form a coherence they hadn’t quite had when he’d spoken them then.
‘He knows I'm not the answer’.
And then the words that cut a little deeper. A little sharper.
‘Maybe that's why he sends me. He isn't worried about it’.
You wrapped your arms around yourself, all-too aware of what your body language was giving away. You had read it all wrong.
“I…I know that,” you answered quietly, pathetically, even though it wasn’t the truth. Not even close. “I know that.”
His eyes found your face again, this time more frantic, like he knew what he had just done but didn't have any choice in the matter. He raised his hand to your elbow, leaning in as he gripped you. He might have shaken you to try and get you to understand what he was saying if he thought that would go over better than his fingers alone.
“Listen to me, I'm telling you you need to do the right thing. He's my brother. But I can't…I can't be your answer.”
Those damn pesky tears were back, and with a vengeance. If you didn't dart out of there sooner rather than later, you'd be nothing but a puddle of salty water on his kitchen floor and you suddenly had no desire to let him see you that way.
There was anger there too, as misplaced as you knew it was, forming just as quickly and swelling into something so hot it practically blurred your vision. You felt almost lied to. Talk about fucking mixed signals. But you let out a long, terse, “okayyy” without even meeting his eyes, already mentally planning your escape.
“I love you, I do. I love you too much to-”
Bullshit.
“No, I get it,” you interjected before he could drive the knife any deeper. “It's good to know where you stand. Thank you.”
He called out for you more than once but it fell on deaf ears. You were already out of the house.
—
“Where were you?”
Good God, can’t the universe give me a break?
Josh's voice coming out of the near darkness startled you. You knew he was there. You'd seen his car in the driveway when you pulled in. But something about it felt like he was catching you in the middle of sneaking out. Or rather, sneaking in.
“I was out,” was all you said as you sat your things down and kicked off your shoes. You prayed your eyes weren’t still red and puffy from the crying you did on the car ride home.
“Just out?”
There was concern in his voice. You could hear it without even fully seeing his face where it was, shrouded in shadow that seemed all too fitting for the conversation you knew very well was about to be had. He could have easily been hiding from you. Fuck, you wanted to hide from him too.
You wanted to spare him the sigh that was brewing in your chest but it barreled out of you before you could stop it. “I needed to get my thoughts together,” you explained as you stepped further into the house and into the hall where you could better see him.
That was a mistake.
There was already pain in his eyes. Already a redness that you suspected was from his own tears. He knew where this was headed as well as you did.
Fuck, this might actually kill me.
“Why doesn't that sound good?” He gave you a nervous chuckle and the only smile he could manage, both of which fell flat.
“Josh, I…” There was actually nothing coming to your mind, try as hard as you did to think of the right thing to say. To think of anything to say for that matter. But he took pity on you instead and cut right to it. Something you might have been thankful for under any other circumstances. Well, maybe you still were thankful for it given these circumstances.
“I know,” he said without prompting. “I've been spread so thin lately-”
“For a while,” you corrected, only a tinge of the bitterness you felt biting into your tone. “And it's not really feeling like ‘spread thin’ so much as it is not making the time for…certain things. Things that should be a priority.”
Well that certainly sounded bitter.
“I know, baby. I've been wrapped up in a million little things. We're working on a new sound but it has required more of me than the others.”
You felt yourself wince at the pet name, a lump in your throat forming almost out of nowhere and suddenly threatening to strangle you.
You fought against it to push the words out. “Josh, I hear you, I really do, but this just isn't sustainable for me.”
He nodded at this but you could tell he was deep in thought. And his silence seemed to drag on for an eternity. Agonizingly. But when he finally broke it, you found yourself missing that silence.
“Does this have something to do with Jake?” he asked, raising his eyes to yours to undoubtedly impress upon you the importance of the question.
Suddenly you felt cold despite the sweat practically pooling in your palms and the heat flaring in your ears. You couldn't face him and tell him that you had fallen for Jake after all of the late nights you'd spent with him. You couldn’t admit to him the embarrassing truth that you had gone to seek him out, lying to yourself about why the whole time. And you certainly couldn’t admit to him how often you had thought of his brother when you found yourself alone over the past few months. But Josh seemed to glean every last one of those secrets from your silence alone.
“Where were you?” He finally asked the question you'd skirted around when you'd arrived home.
You didn't rarely hear Josh with anything you could call stern in his voice but you heard it now in his question. And his eyes begged the answer from you just as desperately as his tone did.
That was when you began to feel the tears well up for the second time that night. Your undereyes wouldn’t recover until the next week.
“Josh-” you croaked out, although he didn't seem to need you to finish whatever thought you were weakly stringing together into words.
“I shouldn't have let him do it. I shouldn't have let him near you that way.”
“It wouldn't have mattered,” you tried.
“Yes it would have. We wouldn't be here right now if I hadn't pushed you into his arms.”
“If it hadn't been him, I would have just been alone. All alone, Josh.” Even with the tears streaming silently down your face, you said his name pointedly enough that his shoulders seemed to slump and whatever anger was brewing for his brother was waning. “All alone for months and months thinking my boyfriend couldn't care less. Hoping I would at least get a text from you that time rather than Jake acting like some sort of carrier pigeon, as if that was any replacement.”
You'd never seen him so hurt. You'd never seen his face droop and fall that way, his lips melting downward at the corners and the liquid warmth of his eyes almost freezing over. Even his curls seemed to lose their bounce. He was wilting right in front of you and it only made it harder to breathe. It only made it harder to stand there and face him and say whatever the fuck it was you’d been putting off for that very reason.
If you don't do it now, you never will.
You wiped at your tears as best you could, trying to pull yourself together. “It hurts me,” you started. “Having you so close and yet so far constantly, it hurts me and I just can't do it anymore. And I don't want to wait until I resent you. I can't sit around waiting for that to happen. It'll kill me if I ever feel that way for you.”
Tears were now pouring down his face as he shook his head. “I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.”
If he said anything else, you could barely hear it above the racing of your heart in your chest and the dam breaking somewhere behind your eyes. It was like a tsunami when it came, folding you over until you slumped around yourself on the ground to let it wrack through your body. And he was there just as quickly, holding you despite the fact that he most certainly didn't have to. Clinging to you and his sorry's.
You weren't sure how much time passed as you sat there. You could hardly feel it ticking through your tears and a feeling that felt awfully close to regret. You couldn't feel the passage of the wind and the world beyond the strength of Josh's arms holding fast to your form, knowing that when he let go, he wouldn't have this opportunity again. It almost felt cruel, like a moment you should have had among many others but was stolen away from you all at once. So you basked in it. You bathed in it. You memorized his touch and his smell and the way it felt to be supported, even if you hadn't felt it in a while.
You had your reasons, you knew that. Had to remind yourself of it, even. But at the moment, you had nothing but him.
The tears always dried though. They always racked your body and stripped you of your strength and energy and when they vacated, just like they always did, you were left sitting, leaning against the wall of the hallway, in an almost daze-like state. Stuck in a limbo between sorrow and anger and humor. Every emotion you had seemed to sit at the edge of your being waiting for a moment to pounce in a state like this, and you were always left wondering what would take hold next.
Josh mimicked your movements, sitting opposite you like a mirror into what you probably looked like. And for a while, you sat in silence.
“I just want you to be happy,” he said after several moments. “That's all I've ever wanted.”
You nodded and sniffled, wiping your eyes and your nose with the back of your hand like a toddler.
“I know.”
“I mean it.”
I know.
You nodded again but this time when you spoke, your voice was even.
“I know.”
You tapped your fingers against your knee, butt going numb against the hardwood floor and eyes feeling stiff at the corners thanks to the dried tears accumulated there. And it was funny in a way that really wasn’t funny at all that as you sat there and stared at Josh silently, you couldn't help but think to yourself how beautiful he was.
Fucking twins.
“Does Jake make you happy?” Josh asked suddenly, studying your face.
The short answer was yes but the long answer?
‘He knows I'm not the answer’.
“I don't know,” you admitted. And you hoped he believed you when you said it because you really didn't.
You liked how he made you feel. You liked that he was there when no one else was. But was he the answer? You had no idea, actually. Maybe you wanted him to be more than he actually was. Or maybe, just maybe, you just liked having sex with him.
Ha. Well, that's at least some of it. Not that it matters anymore.
You were shamelessly giggling to yourself at the entirely humorless situation you found yourself in even before Josh joined in, bringing his hand to hide his mouth like he was in on the secret joke and attempting to keep it just that, a secret.
“You should probably decide before I have a chance to kill him.” And then after a moment, he added, “Well to be honest with you, I might just kill him anyway.”
You couldn't even explain why but that did you in, spurred a full on fit of laughter. And somehow, Josh found himself laughing right beside you.
Typical Josh. Always a bright spot. Even if it hurt him to be.
—
You hadn't left your house in days. Hadn't washed your sweatpants in as long either. The takeout boxes were certainly piling up too. And had you already finished off the last of your wine stockpile?
Gonna need to hit the grocery store soon. Or Instacart, at the very least.
And when your couch hadn't been occupied by friends spoon-feeding you whatever therapy you needed, be that advice or ice cream, you found yourself alone with more thoughts than you cared to deal with.
And one name in your mind that you avoided at all costs.
You hadn't even texted him that it was over. Hadn't called. Hadn't seen his face or heard his voice or even uttered his name. But God, you felt it, that ache. The longing. The familiar itch that he had scratched for you one too many times that now begged for nails to rake across it.
Relief. You wanted him. You maybe even needed him. That was what the emptiness had shown you. Whatever it was that he even was to you, you missed it. You craved it. But in your hour of need, he was the last thing available to you. And you were certainly stubborn enough not to chase.
Until you eventually weren’t stubborn enough.
You had no idea what had possessed you to rise from the couch that day, throw on a sweatshirt to shield you from the rain, grab your car keys, and drive to his place. You had no idea what possessed you to jump from your car and brave the violent sheets of rain that threatened to topple you as your fist made contact with his door a bit more angrily than maybe it should have. And you had no idea what had possessed you to do all of this just to say what it was you said.
Maybe I enjoy getting hurt.
You weren't invited in. In fact, you weren't even greeted with any words. He seemed breathless the moment he opened the door and his brain caught up with his eyes, whether that was thanks to your unruly appearance made all that much worse by the rain or simply the fact that you were the last person he expected to see standing on his porch after what he had said. After what you had done.
Probably should have run a brush through my hair before coming here.
And then you blurted it out.
“I ended it.”
The rain raged on in an angry war against you but you stood defiantly, like there was some ground there to hold. And maybe there was. It certainly felt like there was. If it wasn't the rain, it was his eyes, staring dangerously into yours and then, even without a single utterance from him still, you saw it. It was undeniable and unmissable.
Jake's eyes flickered down to your lips where they lingered for what felt like an eternity but in actuality was about two seconds. Two of the longest seconds you'd ever felt, waiting for someone to do something about it.

Hey Raven! Hope you're doing well, and I hope you had a great holiday, if you celebrate, that is.
I hate to clutter your ask box with something like this, and you don’t have to answer, you can just read this with an open mind, but I feel you're the only one I could go to with this without being straight-up attacked. It's also why I'm asking anonymously.
But, what's your stance on the whole war between the JP and EN versions of the game? I'm not asking you to pick a side or anything, I just wanna know your thoughts.
Obviously, I'm an EN player, and idk if you seen, but there's some hateful things out there about us, and honestly, it's hurtful and disheartening to every time I get up here. And it's always on this we as players can't control. Mainly the dialog translations and it's changes.
I've seen people calling us dumb and weak, saying we water down everything because we can't take it, etc. I've seen people saying we don't know how to really correctly and analyze characters and that we're not even playing the same game. They say we've ruined the game, the fandom, and that they wished it was never localized. I've also seen quite horrible things, but I don’t wanna repeat the things said, but yeah.
And the kicker is, it's only the JP side I've seen post this stuff. I've seen more hate come from that side more than anything, and of course not all, like you. You're my fave btw.
So yeah, thoughts?
Hello, hello! ^^ I’m not really a super big celebration person but I’m hunkering down for a cozy hibernation this winter ❄️ I hope everyone had/will have a good 2023 holiday season~
Before I provide my response to the question posed in this ask, I want to make sure we're all on the same page for this discussion first:
Please be advised that my perspective is coming from that of someone who started off playing JP in March 2020 and then picked up EN when it came out in January 2022. I have played on both servers since their initial launches.
When I refer to TWST JP and EN fans in this post, I am only referring to the English speaking fans (as in, English speaking fans who play JP and English speaking fans who play EN).
For the sake of simplicity, I will be disregarding “hybrid” fans (English speaking fans who play both JP and EN) as a separate category and will lump them in with “JP” fans (English speaking fans who play JP). This is because I assume most mixed fans started off with JP and then adopted EN later on.
I am not talking about ALL English-speaking JP and/or EN fans here; I am only talking about the ones Anon described in their ask.
As the Anon said, I ask that you go into this post with an open mind; do not assume that I will bash JP and/or EN, take sides, defend or condone toxic attitudes, or that this post exists just to “stir the pot”. That is not the purpose of my response. The purpose is to have a meaningful and constructive discussion about TWST’s fandom culture, particularly as it pertains to English-speaking fans. I hope that in talking about this, we can better understand “the other side” (however you may personally define that) and work toward making the fandom space more welcoming for all.
Please read the entire post and think about your own choice of words before commenting and/or sending in an ask about this topic, should you choose to.
To the Anon that submitted this ask and to anyone else that plays EN and may have had similar thoughts: I’m sorry to hear about the negative experiences you’ve had in the TWST fandom. I hope that this post brings you some peace of mind, if not at least some catharsis for what you may be feeling.
Firstly, it’s important to understand the mindset of both JP and EN fans. As such, I will delve into the background and the development of each side. It is NOT meant to justify either side, but rather to inform you on how each perspective originated and grew to what it is today.
The animosity and opposition to an official English version of TWST has been present for a while. An English version of TWST has always been contentious, even long before the localization was announced. Some wanted it to happen for accessibility reasons (as some people find it tedious to hunt for translations) or were supportive of the idea because it means a larger fanbase and thus more potential to make friends or to discuss the game. Others were more apprehensive of the quality of a localization (as much tends to be cut or censored to make the content more palatable) and/or claimed that expanding the fanbase in such a way would bring in more “bad apples”.
When EN first came out, it did, in fact, expand the fanbase. However, many were quick to notice the many (and I do mean many) errors and short sightings present in it: frequent spelling and grammar mistakes in the game and on official social media posts, inconsistent phrasing, incorrect translations, game-breaking glitches, frequent censorship, half-hearted promotions, etc. EN also became infamous for its absolutely brutal pacing of content in the early days, particularly related to the limited story event schedules (including back-to-back Halloween events). This, in combination with EN’s constant pushing of paid gems (which occurs far more frequently than in the JP server) has left a bad taste in JP fans’ mouths. To them, TWST EN did not make a good first impression and continued to misstep again and again. This is especially true of the many dialogue changes to make the TWST localization more “culturally appropriate” (which is the definition of what a localization is; there is a reason why TWST is not called a translation, which would be a more accurate/“faithful” or direct translation of the dialogue).
The claim that “EN fans are weak/can’t handle the real story” likely arises from how EN has removed or altered details which may offend western audiences. This includes things like the term “master”, the mention of Azul’s weight, Kalim’s “30-40” siblings, etc. These are conscious decisions made on the part of the game localizers to make TWST more broadly appealing and appropriate for a western audience, where such topics are contentious or considered taboo. This is adapting TWST to a new culture so that it can (in a dry business sense) perform well. However, I also want to mention that some cultural changes EN made do significantly alter the story/characters (such as Jamil no longer stating his family will be on the streets if they defy the Asims; in EN he only says his parents will be mad at him), particularly if you are viewing through an EN-only lens. Unfortunately 😔 as much as I can point the nuances of localization out, there will always be fans who still oppose any sort of censorship. This is also true of the anime and manga community in general, and this post isn’t large enough in scope to tackle those issues. I only mention this here to help you, the reader, better understand the changes from Disney/Aniplex.
A lot of the original negative feelings that were there before EN was announced were then confirmed by the official release, and this strengthened the dislike of EN on the part of JP fans. These JP fans may then become hostile toward EN fans who defend the localization (whether or not they have the context of TWST JP) because, in the eyes of the JP fans, the localization is not as good as it could be. Ultimately, it seems like their intense feelings stem from passion for what they love and not wishing to see it “desecrated” rather than an actual hatred of fellow fans. JP fans are upset because they fear EN fans are not getting the full scope of the characters and a story they enjoy, and they want others to appreciate those aspects of TWST as well.
Of course 💦 the fact is that EN fans are not responsible for the localization. But EN is there and that is what is the easiest and the most time efficient for English-speaking audiences, so most people will go with that rather than alternatives (ie hunting down fan translations). The issue is that some JP fans conflate simply consuming the localization as being bad or the “wrong” thing to do, and thus, by proxy, extend this frustration to EN fans themselves (especially those those are EN only and have zero prior knowledge of JP) and not just the product. Again, this is because they tend to see JP as the “full” version, without the changes or censorship present in EN. This inevitably leads to discrepancies in understanding between JP and EN, whether due to staggered release of new content or how the characters are presented differently between the two servers. To those who say “the versions are basically the same except for minor changes”, I disagree. There are several dialogue changes that appear small in isolation, but because TWST’s narrative is told primarily via dialogue, those “small” changes are actually very large and can drastically modify how one perceives a character or situation without explicit knowledge of JP to balance it out. When Jamil is made an “employee” rather than a “servant” and worries about his parents being mad at him instead of his entire family literally being on the streets for defying the Asims, it takes away the bite from his motivations. When Cater inserts a #WOW that wasn’t there in JP while Riddle is breaking down sobbing, or makes him come off as far more insensitive than emotionally aware. These are just a few examples, but they are very prominent ones that can change how an EN only fan sees things. The idea that “we aren’t even playing the same game” can ring true to some JP players because of this.
It cannot be helped that EN fans would interpret the characters and stories differently when the localization is their only or primary source of TWST content. Not everyone has the time or the desire to look for more accurate fan translations (not all fan translations are the same quality), as some JP fans have suggested. If EN fans want to, that’s great! It’s nice to expand one’s knowledge and to be cognizant of the changes between the versions. There are many blogs out there dedicated to educating people on these matters, and many EN and JP fans alike flocking there to be informed. But that level of engagement shouldn’t be demanded of anyone. To deem those that don’t engage in “further research” as “lazy”, “dumb”, or a “fake fan” is not acceptable, not in the name of love or otherwise. The expectation to “do homework” only puts pressure on EN fans to be a certain way or else be rejected by the fandom, and that only breeds more hatred and negativity. It makes EN fans feel “not worthy” of being a fan unless they study up, when the truth of the matter is that no matter how much we like TWST, it’s… media at the end of the day. People are free to consume their choice of media however they like, and that includes casually or at their own pace. It’s not fun to be in a fandom where others are breathing down your neck and policing everything you do, especially since these spaces are meant to be a temporary escape from reality. If JP fans meant to gatekeep in an effort to make others recognize the “real” greatness of TWST, then it’s failing because this kind of attitude only serves to drive new fans away.
Among EN fans, there is this idea that “JP fans are stuck-up”. I can understand where this thinking comes from, as I have witnessed hatred for EN myself which comes unprompted and has killed many conversations. Admittedly, some points are geared toward the company themselves (and those are valid), such as rushed and/or inaccurate translations or the pushing of paid gems, but I’ve also seen my fair share of nastier, invalid comments directed at EN fans. There are JP fans who actively hope that EN will shut down or who outright dismiss EN fans because of the version they play, thinking of their thoughts and opinions as “lesser” or doubting their media literacy skills. It’s true that this behavior is out there in the fandom, and that is unfortunately a sad reality.
That being said, JP on EN hate is not the only form I see, and nor is it the majority. It goes both ways (and I would say about equally for all, although this is just based on anecdotes and not objective data). There is plenty of JP on JP hate (particularly when someone spreads mistranslations around as though it were the truth) and EN on EN hate (arguments over what is and is not appropriate to ship, differences in headcanons, harassing fans that fall outside an “acceptable” age range, etc). There is also EN on JP hate which feeds into a dangerous back-and-forth with JP on EN hate. I briefly mentioned before that EN fans tend to believe JP fans are elitist, and this leads to assumptions being made about anyone that critiques EN and sometimes lashing out about it. I myself have previously been accused of “hating” EN because I often make posts commenting on the changes made between EN and JP (which ones I think work and which I think don’t). This preemptively defensive behavior drives another wedge between JP and EN fans, making JP fans reluctant to engage with EN fans, which then fuels the belief that JP fans think they’re “better” than EN fans (when really, some JP fans may be intentionally distancing themselves for their own wellbeing). Additionally, a lot of behavior deemed more acceptable in western oriented fandom spaces (such as moral justifications, taking pictures without crediting, callouts of other fans, and incorrect use of fandom tags) are not so for JP spaces (or those familiar with JP spaces). There have also been times when EN fans harass the actual Japanese-speaking side of the fandom (be it Japanese fans or the devs themselves) and demand (not ask, but demand) content that caters to them or free translations of fan comics they make. When EN fans fail to observe such “basic fandom etiquette”, it leads to JP fans thinking them rude or entitled, which makes JP fans reluctant to interact with EN fans and, again, feeds into confirmation bias. It’s a viscous system.
What is “ruining” the fandom is not just one side. There has always been turmoil present in fandom spaces. It just appears more visible now that TWST’s popularity has grown to this scale. Right now, both sides (JP and EN) are antagonizing each other because of a loud minority that’s attacking the other side. That minority then gets extrapolated and assumed to be behavior of the entirety of the other side, and that is what keeps the hate going.
If I’m being entirely honest 😔 I don’t think these tensions will realistically ever die out; the fandom is too large to “stomp out” what has already been established in its culture. When both sides are fueled by something so strong—a passion for TWST—it’s hard to seek out and/or to consider alternative perspectives. We become fixated on their own negative experiences and fail to think about where the “others” maybe be coming from, and then close ourselves off from discussion. That promotes isolation and contempt rather than friendliness and cooperation.
If we want change, then it starts at an individual level and in smaller TWST communities. We shouldn’t assume the worst of “JP” or “EN” fans; we are all TWST fans. Let’s keep open-minded and welcome other fans and their diverse schools of thought. And if you don’t feel comfortable with that, that’s also fine! You’re allow to keep a distance and curate your online space as you like; just please don’t go out of your way to disparage others, you have your own lane and others have theirs. Don’t encroach on other lanes.
Maybe we don’t necessarily agree with each other or we think may hold different opinions—but that’s good, isn’t it? The freedom of thought and the open exchange of ideas promotes flexible thinking and can lead you to see things from a new angle, or perhaps develop a new idea of your own. If we all thought the same way, then life becomes boring or it can cultivate an “us versus them” narrative that sparks online wars.
Let me put it this way to close off the post: isn’t this the message that Twisted Wonderland itself is trying to teach us? The true value of attending Night Raven College isn’t just about receiving a good education. Countless times it has been stressed to us (and often by Lilia, the oldest and wisest of the core cast, someone who used to be resistant to opening up to outsiders) that it is vital to understand other people in spite of how different we may be. Let’s take a page out of the students’ book and try to live up to that ^^

If you can't, who will?
Obanai Iguro x Reader
Angst: Unrequited love with a twist~
Normal Timeline
I don't own the pictures used!
February 14th
I'm not a big fan of February.
'Day of Romance' they say but for me it's a day of torture.
Watching other people love each other as I stare enviously.
How unfair is that?
“Y/N~ The chocolates are ready”
You snapped out your thoughts as shinobu called out for you, she and Aoi helped you with making Valentine's chocolate since you informed shinobu about wanting to give someone a chocolate for valentine's
You walked towards her and Aoi staring at the chocolates that the 3 of you made together, although shinobu was a very busy person she decided to make time for valentine's.
Shinobu took a piece of chocolate and placed it Infront of your mouth "Say ahh~", You opened your mouth as shinobu gently put the chocolate in your mouth. The chocolate slowly melted in your tongue and you could taste how delicious it was, "This is so good and delicious thank you for helping me Shinobu and Aoi" you hummed.
Aoi gave you a smile while shinobu patted your head "My, my there's no need to thank me..Friends are always there for each other aren't they?" Shinobu paused for a while until something a random question in her thoughts "Now come to think of it you never told us about the person you will give it to I wonder who is it? Mind telling us Y/N?"
The moment you heard shinobu's question you immediately froze on spot while Aoi temporarily stopped baking since she was also curious about the answer you will provide, They stared at you with curiousity and you are just continuously sweating deciding whether you should tell them or not.
The room was too quiet because you are refusing to answer so shinobu jumped to conclusions as she gasped "Don't Tell me it's Tomioka!" You just shook your head denying her assumption as you grabbed a box full of chocolate and excusing yourself to leave "Sorry Shinobu! I'll be back soon I- uh I'm not feeling well"
"If you are not feeling well I could always he-"
"NO THANKS!"
You dashed out the door leaving both shinobu and Aoi stunned, "Wait Ms. Y/N!" Aoi tried to call you but you are already running away and far. To them you are a pretty calm person so they are shocked and surprised to see you acting that way. Shinobu and Aoi just stared at each other laughing the situation off "Y/N is really a mysterious person isn't she? I'm still wondering who's the lucky guy though.."
STOMP STOMP
You kept on running and running until the butterfly mansion is out of view, you are too embarrassed to face them nor even answer the question shinobu asked
After all, they knew about Iguro's love for mitsuri
Some things are better to be kept.
BUMP
You accidentally bumped into someone and was about to fall down to the floor until someone caught your arms on time
"I'm sorry! I wasn't looking! A-" you were about to say something until you suddenly realized who it was
It was no other than the guy who stole your heart
But never being able to return it.
"Iguro!" You quickly got on your feet as you slightly bowed to him apologizing for accidentally running into him, "Keep your head up Y/N, It's fine."
You slightly blushed just by hearing his Voice, who wouldn't? he's hot
You then thought about the box of chocolate resting in your hand and since he was already here you might aswell just give him the chocolate and confess your feelings for him that is bottled up for years.
Though it was clear to you that he likes someone else
But taking the risk is not bad is it?
"It's been a while Iguro..I-" You are so lost in your thoughts that you didn't notice him walking away "eh?" You are a bit confused at first since he was fast then you shook your head and raised your voice loud enough for him to hear you "Wait Iguro!", Iguro continued walking as if you didn't called out for him "I'm busy."
"But it's important!" After hearing the word 'Important' he stopped walking. as much as he doesn't want to waste his time because he have a date with mitsuri He decided to hear you out "Make it quick, I still have to go to Kocho's mansion to retrieve my forgotten item and a schedule to attend."
You then took out a letter from your pockets and placed it on top of the box of chocolate that you are going to give him and slowly walked towards him
"This is for you.." You said shyly as you handed him the box of chocolate with the letter, he stared at you with disgust before taking the chocolate and letter you gave him
"What's this for?" He asked as kaburamaru tried to get closer to the chocolate, you gave kaburamaru a head pat that he seems to have enjoy "For valentine's" you responded.
"Get your filthy hands off kaburamaru." You were a bit taken aback by his words since before he really didn't mind you petting kaburamaru infact he even lets you have kaburamaru on your neck for days "Oh I'm sorry.." After you stopped petting kaburamaru he was upset and hissed at Iguro
"and about the letter... it's about what I feel for you for these past fe-"
"I don't have time to listen to your non-sense."
He dropped the chocolate box as he ripped the letter apart leaving you flabbergasted, "Weakness disgust me in other words YOU disgust me. You are just a kinoe so stop talking to me so casually." Even kaburamaru was shock that he had had wide eyes
But why? I was there for you when you had nothing
"I see... I'm sorry for bothering you."
"You should be, I'm only accepting letters and chocolate from mitsuri so if you don't mind I'll be taking my leave." You gave him a slight nod with a smile and before Iguro was about to leave he gave you his final rejection words "I can't love someone who's as weak as you." He then disappeared while you are still standing at the same spot where the man you love and admired for years rejected you worse is that he even bad mouthed you.
You are holding back tears while a million thoughts raced in your head
Was I ever enough?
But why I was there??
I was the one who helped you escape
FLASHBACK:
"this flower reminds me of you! It's so pretty"
"You think I'm Pretty?" You asked as he nodded happily, he placed the flowers in your hair as you return him a gentle smile, Iguro sticking his arms out of his cage is easier due to the fact of how big the gap is and he was skinny at the time
"give him that food"
You and Iguro could hear distance noises which mean someone is about to come at Iguro's cage so you quickly had to leave before the both of you get caught
"I'm sorry Iguro, I'll be back I promise.."
"Wait before you go!" He held your hand tightly from the behind his cage as he looked at you looking a little shy
"If we ever get out of this hell... Promise me that we will get married someday"
"I promise"
"Hello Y/N, how are you?"
Hearing a familiar voice you snapped out of your own thoughts from the past and stared at the man who is now in front of you
The man Infront of you is Giyuu tomioka, The water hashira himself.
"Oh Tomioka!" You slightly bowed greeting him "Are you going to Shinobu?"
"Yes but since you are also here, I have something for you"
He then pulled out a small bouquet of flowers from the bag he is holding and handed them to you, at first you are shock that he would give you something like that so you had your hand on your mouth
"is this really okay?" You asked before taking the flowers, "Yes, it's for you"
With your delusional brain you thought that he had a crush on you or this was his way of saying "I like you" so you slightly blushed at the thought and was happy that after all these years someone is able to love you
Oh boy how wrong you are
"Tanjiro told me I should give these to the other hashira to make friends"
Oh.
"But I'm a kinoe?" You tilted your head in confusion while holding the flowers he just gave you, Giyuu stared at you for a while before answering "I know but I acknowledge your strength so I'm giving you one." He gently patted your head before walking away not noticing the smile he had on his face
However his words aren't useful
You still thought to yourself that you are nothing but a weak human being
After all if you are really strong you could of have been a hashira yeah? But you are just a kinoe.
A useless one
Would anyone really love such a weak person like you?
Can anyone love someone like you?
Back at your estate, you are just in your garden sulking even your crow is concerned
Earlier, Kyojuro came to visit you to greet you a "happy valentine's" and gave you delicious desserts but you ignored him so he was sad and he left your estate with a broken heart
Poor kyojuro:(
"Y/N! Y/N! Are you dead?"
You have been sulking for hours and not moving a muscle that your crow assumed you died on spot
KNOCK KNOCK
"Y/N! Someone is at the door!"
You Ignored the noises and continued sulking so your crow had no other choice but to get the door itself "If this continued you might as well get eaten by a demon!" The crow hurried to the door
You pulled your knees to your chest as you buried your own face onto it tears started to form.
"I was there, I was the one who accepted him ever since we were kids.." you said to yourself as millions of thoughts continued raging in your head
"if he can't love me..who will?"
"I will"
You flinched at the response you weren't expecting and turned around only to find mitsuri with a bouquet of flowers, chocolate, and a wrapped gift with your crow on her shoulder
"Mitsuri! I didn't expect you to visit all of the sudden" you wiped off the tears in your eyes and fixed your hair that is a bit messy because of the wind "I'm sorry if you have to see me like this"
"she won't stop sulking for hours! I told you she's crazy I'm leaving her to you!" The crow then flied far away from both you and mitsuri
"see you like what? I don't get what you are talking about your face is still shining as bright" she approached you closer and sat Infront of you after she sat Infront of you she tucked your hair behind your ears as her eyes stared deeply into yours "Your beauty is really incomparable"
What's the meaning of this?
Flattered by her words you couldn't find the right words to say "a-aren't you supposed to be on a date with aguro? I mean oguro? No.. Obama!" You are too much of a mess to say Iguro's name right
Mitsuri let out a light hearted laugh upon seeing your reaction that she thinks it's adorable "Well..I didn't really think that it was a date I thought we were only hanging out as friends until he told me confessed about his feelings for me..." She paused for a little smiling at you "But of course I rejected him because I want you!"
This isn't right
"Aren't we both women?" You asked nervously, mitsuri put her finger on your lips as a signal of 'Shush' "So what now if we are both women? It's not a crime to love each other"
"but what about Iguro?" A question after a question though mitsuri doesn't mind answering all of your questions even if it seems like there is no end to your questions "He doesn't matter now does he?"
She said that as if it was a normal thing, "Anyways! I'm excited for you to open this gift of mine! Open it" mitsuri handed you her gift and this made you curious of what's inside so you unwrapped it slowly trying not to damage what's inside.
After unwrapping it you found a tulip hairpin inside of it and it was stunning "This is really pretty mitsuri! Thank you" you gave her a warm smile while hugging her which made mitsuri die in happiness
Mitsuri was delighted that you appreciated her gift so she returned the hug by embracing you more tightly! She almost crushed you to death btw
After pulling away from the hug mitsuri asked you if she could put the hairpin on your hair to which you agreed to, she then gently placed the hairpin on your preferred spot
"do you wanna know why I choosed a tulip hairpin?" She asked while she's still fixing your hair, "why?"
"it's to represent my deep love for you!" She stated with a big smile on her face, to be honest you really don't know what to feel because you didn't expect for a Woman (Especially mitsuri) to take a liking to you but then again you decided to give mitsuri a chance because like she said 'Gender doesn't matter as long as the both of you truly love each other'
"I know you are confused right now Y/N but my love for you is real and I'm not expecting you to reciprocate it I just wanted you to know" her words caught you off guard "I also want you to know that if nobody can settle down with you I will!"
After iguro's harsh words you no longer feel bad about yourself thanks to mitsuri, you are about to say something until she spoke first
"I have a question for you Y/N"
"Yes?"
"Can I court you?"
The choice is yours Reader.

Attack on Prime The Future Anthology: Halloween
Main Story
Halloween Anthology
New Age Anthology
Burying the Dead
Huh. Guess I did have time to do this one.
"This is...Earth?" Annie marveled at her surroundings of the military base as she, her father, and the rest of the Warriors had just arrived on the planet.
"It's a little bit crowded," Mr. Leonhart remarked in annoyance at the multitude of people in front of them.
"Well, I'm sorry! We're still trying to transport the people that don't need medical attention back to your world! And some people are just being-! HEY!" Fowler bolted after some kids holding something that clearly didn't belong to them.
"...I'm starting to like my home in Paradis," Mr. Leonhart declared, "Why am I here?"
"To get checked out," Annie reminded, "They have better medicine here."
"I doubt it's going to fix a limp I've had for years," Mr. Leonhart proclaimed.
"Probably not. The injuries have no doubt healed in a way that can't be corrected anymore," June explained as she walked up to them, "But we can still take a look at other things that could be causing you pain."
"You got something that fixes pain in fingers?" Mr. Leonhart asked.
"Let's do a physical and we'll find out." June beckoned Mr. Leonhart to follow her. The man turned back to the other Warriors who were waving 'goodbye' to him. Mr. Leonhart smiled a little before turning back and continuing to follow June.
"Why did you decide to bring him here?" Falco asked, "It's safe to go back home."
"I'm not taking any chances," Annie declared, "I don't care if Optimus somehow managed to convince them to drop all of those laws...But what are you guys doing back here?"
"Oh, um, Raf and Miko were saying something about a celebration?" Gabi recalled.
"Celebration?" Annie questioned.
"BOO!" Pieck found herself screaming at the sight of a red demon behind her and used her cane to smack it in the face. The perpetrator yelled before hitting the ground, knocking off the grotesque looking mask.
"Miko?!" Pieck exclaimed while the woman rubbed the back of her head.
"Don't try to knock out my two front teeth or anything!" Miko winced in pain.
"That's what you get for trying to scare people who don't know anything about Halloween," Rafael scolded as he and Jack were carting off some pumpkins and decorations.
"I thought they would know!" Miko insisted as Jack walked over to help her up.
"Christianity doesn't exist on their world!" Rafael reminded.
"Halloween?" Colt questioned.
===
"Not this fucking bullshit again," Levi groaned in his wheelchair in annoyance as Jack, Miko, and Rafael continued decorating the rather large room they were in. They had a station for pumpkin carving, a station for costumes, one for movies, and one that had a boatload of candy.
"You guys know what this is?" Annie asked in surprise.
"Optimus explained it to us a few years ago and I made him tell us scary stories from Earth." Hanji rummaged through the costumes and picked out a pirate outfit, "We made a betting pool on who would be scared the least."
"Until Buckethead ruined it with that fucking 'Wailing Spark' story," Levi seethed.
"We've also seen one of the horror movies that you provided Wheeljack and Arcee," Hanji informed.
"Oh, really, which one?!" Miko exclaimed, rolling past in a chair.
"It involved raining blood, limb dismemberment-!"
"Dude, that's like half of all horror movies," Rafael cut Jean off.
"Evil Dead," Mikasa answered bluntly, "Arcee said something about it being a 'remake'? It was a good movie."
"Okay, you have a twisted mind." Sasha pointed at Mikasa.
"You guys saw the Evil Dead remake from 2013?!" Jack exclaimed in surprise.
"Nice!" Miko grinned before turning to Mikasa, "And turns out you're a horror enthusiast."
"I suppose." Mikasa shrugged.
"Well, we got classics and we've got remakes." Miko spun in the chair while rolling away again. "We also have some kid friendly horror movies if you want to start off with that."
"We can just watch the Nightmare before Christmas," Jack insisted as he finished putting the decorations on the wall, "We're not trying to traumatize them."
"We've...all seen death?" Gabi reminded in confusion.
"And that's super fucked up," Rafael declared, "You're supposed to be kids! Enjoy the holiday and the festivities!"
"The costumes are fun~!" Hanji twirled in the pirate outfit that they had managed to acquire, "Oh! Um you guys wouldn't happen to have a movie on vampires, would you?"
"As long as it's not Twilight." The trio said in unison.
"I will assume that Twilight is terrible!" Hanji said.
"Oh, do you guys have liquor?" Jean asked.
"...see about that-!"
"In the U.S. you have to be 21 or older to drink," Jack explained.
That earned protests and cries from the 104th.
"Yeah, I know, it's sucks," Jack agreed.
"The next time we're doing a celebration like this, we're doing it on Paradis!" Sasha declared in anger.
"He he." Hanji grinned.
==
Later
"So like this?" Falco asked, showing the carved expression on the hollowed out pumpkin.
"Yeah, like that," Jack praised, "Pumpkin carving doesn't have to be a face though, but grinning pumpkin is a staple for Halloween."
"Check this out!" Gabi spun her pumpkin around to show a multitude of sharp teeth in a circle.
"Gabi!" Colt exclaimed in horror.
"She's got it down." Jack shrugged.
"What do we do with the rest of this?" Sasha asked, holding up the insides of the pumpkin that were holding the seeds. She was wearing a werewolf costume at the moment.
"We're planning on throwing those out, but you can eat the seeds if you want," Jack explained.
"Really?!" Sasha asked with excitement as she tried to crack open one of the seeds.
"Sasha, don't be like that!" Jean groaned, trying to meticulously carve his pumpkin. The scout was wearing a skeleton costume simply because he thought it matched the leg.
Sasha managed to crack open the seed and aim it. "It's a little bland."
"All seeds are bland," Jack retorted.
"I'm still gonna eat it," Sasha proclaimed.
"Well, clean up after," Jack ordered her.
"I'm not dressing up," Levi declared as Armin was still trying to find a costume for himself.
"C'mon, be festive! Play a little pretend!" Hanji insisted.
"And look like whatever the fuck Erwin is wearing?" Levi pointed to Erwin, who was adorned in a red, white, and blue suite that mirrored the country's flag.
"Miko wanted me to wear this," Erwin said.
"And you look like a dead ringer for Captain America!" Miko showed the picture of the actor on her phone to Hanji and Levi, who were rather stunned at the similarities between the actor and their friend.
"I get the joke now," Hanji said, while Levi nodded in agreement.
"Although the costume is a little uncomfortable on the arm," Erwin informed.
"We could probably cut the sleeve off," Miko pondered.
Armin ended up finding a costume that looked to be a long toga with a red cape behind it. He put the laurel that was attached to the costume that was on his head before walking over to the movie area. Rafael was uninterested in the movie, taking more interest in being on his phone. Mikasa was watching with an eagerness that one would consider concerning. Annie also seemed a little intrigued, but not bothered. But Pieck was holding a pillow to her chest before lifting it up to cover her eyes.
"No costume?" Armin asked as he sat down next to Mikasa.
Mikasa shook her head. "Too itchy for my arms."
Armin turned his head to the movie and winced at the violence on screen. "What movie is this?"
"Nightmare on Elm Street," Rafael answered, "A classic in terms of horror, but the movies tend to get more campy as they go on."
"There was a fountain of blood coming out of the bed," Pieck whimpered.
"I don't understand why you're so bothered by this," Annie admitted.
"Annie, there is a difference between killing someone instantly and dragging out the kill," Pieck insisted, "These movies drag out the kill, and then the music-!"
"Oh yeah, there's a study on how music can make a horror movie scarier," Rafael absentmindedly added, causing Pieck to whimper.
"You can go over to a different station if you want," Rafael reminded her.
"I promised myself I would stay and watch the movie," Pieck swore.
"You don't seem that bothered by the movie," Armin remarked.
"Yeah, that's mainly due to graphics," Rafael explained, "And also, I'm more afraid of something else."
"It's the demon nun from the Conjuring movies!" Miko ratted him out.
"We do not talk about the demon nun from the Conjuring movies!" Rafael shouted at her.
"We should watch that movie next!" Miko grinned devilishly, "It's based on real life events!"
"We both know the Warrens' stories are exaggerated!" Rafael shot back.
"The ones with the doll?" Mikasa asked, causing the two to look at her.
"Wait, Optimus told you about Annabelle?!" Miko exclaimed in disbelief.
"We're not going to see Annabelle!" Jack called out from the pumpkin carving area.
"Not with that attitude!" Hanji declared.
"We also don't have the money for it now," Rafael explained.
"Booo!" Hanji jeered.
"Anyone want to try pumpkin?!" Sasha offered.
"Wow, that's a first." Jean was baffled.
==
"So normally we'd go house to house to get free candy from strangers," Jack explained as Miko knocked over the cart of candy onto the floor, "But since most of you guys are too old to be doing that,"
"Boring!" Sasha shouted,
"We've decided to bring the candy to you guys," Jack finished.
"Just looking at it is hurting my teeth." Levi grimaced at the sight of it.
"We got chocolate, caramel, fruit, sour candy," Rafael listed.
"Sour candy?" Armin asked in confusion.
"Some people prefer sour over sweet," Rafael shrugged.
"I think I'll pass. Not really into sweets," Levi declared.
"Shouldn't we offer some of this to Historia and Ymir?" Mikasa asked, "They're currently working hard on Paradis right now."
"Oh, we already talked to them and Historia asked for sweets to give to the orphans," Rafael explained, "They're having their own little Halloween celebration right now."
"We should still make sure to include them in these events," Mikasa declared.
Sasha's mouth watered at the sight of all the candy, but she paused when she noticed Annie eagerly eyeing it as well. She could even see her hands were fidgeting at the sight.
"Anyway, pick your poison," Jack offered.
"Gimme that sour candy!" Hanji exclaimed.
"Done!" Miko tossed the bag of sour candy to them.
"Falco they have chocolate!" Gabi excitedly grabbed a bar and showed it to him.
"Oh, no one here has any allergies, right?" Jack asked.
"Not that we know of," Armin answered as Mikasa grabbed something with strawberries in it.
Hanji popped the candy in their mouth and winced. Their face puckered in pain at the taste of the treat.
"Hanji are you okay?" Erwin asked as he tried some caramel.
"Blegh!" Hanji stuck their tongue out, "That was painful!" But Hanji wasn't deterred as they immediately ate another one.
"Really?" Levi deadpanned.
"It's interesting!" Hanji winced as they chewed.
"Can I try one?" Colt asked Hanji.
"Go for it!" Hanji tossed them one.
Pieck hummed with delight at the taste of some coconut candy while Annie picked out a peppermint patty. She hesitantly took a small bite, and her apprehension disappeared as she continued eating the rest of it.
"Try this one." Sasha offered a peanut butter cup to her. Annie was a little surprised but slowly took it from her.
"Thank you," Annie said, earning a small smile from Sasha.
"El Capitan! Try dark chocolate!" Miko offered the fun sized candy to him.
"I told you I'm not interested," Levi waved off.
"Dark chocolate is not that sweet," Miko explained, "C'mon go for it! You're the only one who's not eating any of it!"
"Hey, I'll take Levi's share!" Sasha offered.
"Hell no, Sasha!" Jean pointed a red licorice at her.
"Fine, give it here." Miko tossed it to Levi and the Captain popped the treat in his mouth, "Huh...not bad."
"Hooray!" Hanji cheered.
Sasha grabbed some fruit candy from the pile and smile. Connie would have loved this. She instinctively turned to her right to try and offer some to him, but she was still met with the sight of Annie, holding a fruit candy of her own.
"S-sorry!" Sasha apologized.
"Something on your mind?" Annie asked.
"...Just thinking about Connie," Sasha sighed, "Connie would've loved all of this."
"Yeah, he probably would have," Annie agreed, "I'm...sorry I wasn't there at the funeral."
"It's okay," Sasha reassured, "The kids wanted to mourn Reiner."
Rafael noticed Sasha's mournful expression before pulling out his phone once again. Mikasa peered over his shoulder to see something about 'Day of the Dead', but ultimately decided to pay it no mind.
"Anyone want to watch a Halloween movie?" Jack offered, "We have kid friendly ones like Hocus Pocus."
Miko gasped with excitement. "I haven't seen Hocus Pocus in ages!"
"What's Hocus Pocus?" Falco asked with his mouth full.
"It's a movie about three kids trying to beat three witches," Rafael explained, "That's like the best way that I can explain it. But there's no gore in it."
"But there is death," Miko interjected.
"It's a Disney death," Rafael retorted.
"Meh, we've seen enough death in our lifetime," Hanji shrugged, "Let's watch the movie!"
"Alright!" Miko grinned.
===
Agent Fowler walked down the hallway, trying to find out where Jack, Miko, and Rafael were. As he passed by a room, he paused when he heard chatter. He looked inside to see Jack, Miko, and Rafael with their alien compatriots, watching 'Hocus Pocus' together.
"You can really get away with a lot of crimes on Halloween, can't you?" Hanji remarked.
"Well, when Halloween is a holiday of tricks, you can pretty much get away with anything," Jack declared.
"You guys seem to be festive," Fowler remarked as he looked at the decorations and the pumpkin.
"Halloween is great!" Sasha said with a mouth stuffed full of candy.
Fowler began to look through the CDs, and as he did, he seemed to get a little bit annoyed. "You guys didn't add Ghostbusters?!"
"Which one?" Rafael smirked.
"How dare you?!" Fowler pointed at him, "Just for that, we're watching the original!"
Miko started laughing at that as Fowler started swapping the CDs.
"Not bad for a scary holiday," Hanji teased Levi.
"I suppose it's not all bad." Levi took another bite out of the dark chocolate, "Movies are weird though."
"Yeah, they are so weird," Hanji agreed.
(Look I am not going to be doing a Halloween Anthology 2.0. If I did, we'd be here until Christmas and I'm not traumatizing myself with more horror movies.)

ok guys. let's have a real talk. let's ALL have a real talk and i don't mean just me and my anons . i hope this reaches all of our community even if you think i fucking suck.
fucking october didn't ruin us but i am so worried that this dumb tension just might. this is getting so ridiculous and out of hand -i barely understand what's going on myself. so im gonna need everyone to work together and do a collective reflection exercise.
i am gonna write out a series of points that i need u guys to think about before proceeding in this community:
- active blogs. you're burnt out. you're burnt out and you're so tired of trying to keep this community running that you're denying yourself a moment to feel your own frustrations as your own individual person. i get that . i get being under so much pressure that you can't catch yourself some slack, least you spiral out of control <- this is, however, really damn unhealthy 😭 it's ok to let yourself feel some disappointment!! some anger!! that's fine. it's up to you, however, what you do with it. this brings us to our next point.
- we NEED to acknowledge this if we wanna get better. ifl it's taboo and we're pushing the narrative so hard we're not giving ourselves enough space to breathe. it. is. okay. to. feel. disappointed. over. the. lack. of. dteam. content. i am the first person to shut down any self entilted prick who thinks they can expect something out of them. because they DON'T owe us anything. but truth is we are humans and, accordingly so, feel in consequence of our own expectations. i wanna break this part down in a few points:
it is OKAY to acknowledge that we are disappointed. denying one self's feelings never ended up ok for anyone. it is okay to acknowledge that we are not getting the content we were hoping for.
it is NOT okay to blame the dteam for it. this is where it gets tricky. the dteam are in charge of what type of content they put out. it will never be in our hands. at that point, if you don't like what they're doing. leave. i'm sorry. it's harsh. i'm not trying to be mean about it. i'd understand if you left! it's ok!
- before you leave, though, i want to ask you a question. why do dislike what they're doing so much? seriously, ask yourself that question. is the content that bad, in your eyes? if the answer is yes, i can't help you there. you've grown out of their content. there's no way around it.
- but is it actually bad, or is it just Not What You Expected? In which case, let's talk. Let's put things bluntly:
the dteam have waited years to be together. correct
upon living together, we have discovered that they are not very good at providing content because they put their friendship above content. i'm not sure if anyone had that in their bingo cards - but it's what happened. autumn was really rough on them & they've learnt to exist together off camera. me personally, i think it's sweet.
dteam and traveling: a fall out? :o . no. jesus christ 😭 the fact that this is the new narrative nauseates me. i don't think anyone in their right mind thinks that dteam are less close than they were when they were living apart.
Bringing back our initial point, the failure to meet our expectations can be mentally challenging. it will inevitably make us second guess a lot of associated ideas that we thought were true . if one of our expectations fails to be met, that's a fail in our mental plan. if we were wrong about this, who's to say we are right about anything else?
i'm not sure if there's some sort of denial of feelings here or if people are trying really hard not to think about this possibility because it makes them scared. i am inviting you to take a moment to really think about it and feel the initial dread of the question. it will pass fairly quickly.
the truth is that the dteam is FINE. they're fine, they share a house, they film videos together, and they go on these long ass hiatus when they're together because they would much rather spend uncesored time off-line.
my favorite point: for how parasocial we are, we don't give them nearly enough credit. the dteam are adult men. we have to put faith in their decisions. only they know what they're doing. they know what's best for them. we certainly don't.
- i wanna rescue this last point. their decisions are THEIRS. if we don't put trust in what they're doing, we're already failing the game. that means who they hang out with too. i get not liking someone ok? i get it. i don't like a lot of people either. no one is pointing a gun to any of their heads. if you think that any of them is doing something that you don't see fit you have problems and you need to grow up. it is not our place to dictate their lives and it will never be. that goes for the white-knighting too.
⚠️(this is a completely hypothetical scenario)⚠️
the truth is if tomorrow george decides to go back to the uk, for whatever reason. we would all have to fucking shut it. fan disappointment? yes. acting like george is an awful person for betraying his best friends? you're out of your fucking mind.
dream george and sapnap are grown up people with a strong friendship and communication skills. if you think that george would take the unilateral decision and not tell anyone until the day before you need to seek help. whatever decision the dteam take about their lives it's THEIRS and you need to put some fawking faith in what they're doing. they know what's up.
that goes for the fucking karl problem too okay? i don't like it either. whatever. it's not my place though?? dream isn't a baby who's been abandoned he's a grown ass man who knows what he's doing and if he still considers (if they ALL do) karl his friend that's his decision. if he thinks that karl's friendship management is fine that's his decision. we are not dream's friends nor his fucking therapist.
- the thing about dooming and content. the multishippers: is the dteam all there really is? i firmly believe that we all kove the dteam outside of each other. (mostly tackled in this post)
- dnf and the fandom. jesus christ i can't believe i have to make a point about this. i think it's important to remember that at the end of the day. it's just Not That Serious. it was never meant to be that serious. bringing back the "they're their own people" point, what the Fuck do some people think they're doing 🧍♂️
dnf know what they're doing they know the nature of their relationship better than we ever will. if they're just friends it's because they chose to if they . in the biggest plot of the century . come out of this with a s/o it doesn't mean they're cheating on each other, that dream/george was leading anyone on or that they're hurting each other???? are you CRAZY 😭 if they're dating they're dating if they're not they're fucking not but they're. not gonna be sad about it??? they're adult people in an adult relationship they know what tf they're doing. they hold each other's hearts impossibility close to themselves. there's nothing they would ever do that could hurt each other.
to wrap things up: after this reddit worthy post (congrats if you've made it to the end) i have something very important to ask of you guys.
i know it might be unfair but can we all compromise on detoxxing. completely. for like, a week. not posting neg at ALL. we can't enable doomers we can't enable bait anons. neg is only good for one thing: make anxious people paranoid as fuck.
so can we. for like a week. just not post anything /neg at all. can we block the worst of it. the unnecessary dooming. and not acknowledge at ALL. i get it's a huge mental toll on the active blogs - reading so much negativity SUCKS but i do believe that it's a better option than responding and enabling more people to send similar asks.
me personally, i am already saying it here: any dooming will get blocked in my askbox. i won't hate you for it. but this IS a warning that you need to get your shit together if you ever wanna have a chance at speaking in my askbox ever again.
um congrats if you read everything?😭 PLEAAAASE let's all make this place a better place again i know we can do it
U CAN ADD TO THIS POST IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY BTW !!!

hi first of all i love your webcomic and cant believe it's only a month old?? it hits DEEP in the emotions the way id expect to see something that's been going on for Years and Years!! i love it and hope to see it become a classic. Anyways, i saw you opened comms and was curious, as someone who's never commissioned an entire comic from somebody. say if somebody were to comm an oc thing rather than fandom— are they the ones that have to provide a script/layout template? or do you come up with the concept from a prompt (or writing sample i guess maybe??) and work from there? thank you in advance for answering and i hope you have a good day!
Thank you so much!! I think I was drawing those two kids for a month or so before I got the website up? 🤔 haha this is why there are so many entries for October b/c I uploaded those all at once
Some earlier ones are ideas I've been thinking of for months but couldn't figure out which characters to put them, and the two kids kinda naturally developed once I said fuck it and just drew the idea. I'm so happy people connect with them!!
I'm new to commissions too tbh, sorry this wasn't very clear!
Scripts in comics come in a bunch of different forms, but I would only expect lines of dialogue for an oc comic. If you want you could also give me the setting for instance, but smth like this:
A: hello?
B: hey what's up
A: I need your help can you come over here?
B: eeugh I can't I'm buying clothes
A: alright well hurry up and come over here
B: I can't find em
I would also accept prompts if it were fan content that I know, but in the case of an oc I imagine you'd know your characters better than me 👍
thank you for your question!
Edit: I would draw OCs doing the soup store bit this is a threat

hiiii
this might seem like a bit of a weird ask, but you seem super nice and i thought it would be okay if i asked you ! (also sorry if this is long)
i’ve been part of the daredevil fandom for a long time and i’ve been writing about dd for over a year and a half now. before i was writing for this fandom, i wrote fanfic about an entirely different genre for like 10+ years. when i was in the other fandom i wrote exclusively on wattpad, and i made a lot of online friends and was a part of writing communities and it made the experience so much better ! but since i changed directions (and started posting on ao3 first and wattpad second) i’ve had a hard time getting into the dd community.
i’m still new to using tumblr for fanfic so i haven’t posted anything of mine here/ followed many writers here (and i’m working on that !). but i was wondering if you had any advice on how to start chitchatting with other people in the fandom ? it feels super cringy for me to be like “i love your work, maybe you’d like mine !” bc i don’t want people to think i’m just trying to promote myself (i promise i’m not). but i miss being involved in online writing communities. it was one of my favorite things in the other fandom and now i’m struggling to find a place here. i try to respond to comments and have reached out to one or two writers before but it didn’t really go anywhere /:
so, tldr; do you have any advice on getting into the writing community/ making friends in the daredevil fandom ?
(and side note i love your work and have been reading your stuff almost as long as i’ve been writing— i’ve reread FFTD so many times and CANNOT WAIT for more updates on TDAYW and ATY !)
thank you !! sorry again this was so long
Hey friend!! This is actually a really great question that I'm sure you're not alone in wondering about! I definitely agree with you though, making friends in the fandom makes the experience so much more enjoyable. I used to write on FFN until I took a couple of years break from fanfic when I was in grad school. I had never made friends in fandom back then because I hadn't found communities and ways to accomplish that via FFN. Even when I came back to fic on AO3 and shortly after I started writing for Matt, I hadn't made friends right off the bat. But I always tried to respond to comments on my stories which is when I started to realize how fun the community was.
My answer is going to be long, so I'm going to put it below the cut! Also anyone else here reading this, if you have tips for making friends, please feel free to share them!!
Honestly tumblr I think is the way to go for making friendships. I have never used wattpad so I can't speak to the way it is set up, but AO3 doesn't quite allow for that too well because we can only communicate via comments. Tumblr gives so many more opportunities to meet lots of others and comment or send messages or share others' content with reblogs.
It's totally not necessary to share your stories on here, but I think that does help. Or to maybe even just promote your updates on your other platforms with links. Because it gives people an opportunity to come here and talk about your stories with you. But I think content creators, whatever you're making, probably make friends a little easier because we are providing something for others to (hopefully) interact with and consume.
As for reaching out to others, I cannot speak to how everyone would react because I know we all have different boundaries, but I think commenting/comment reblogging regularly on writer's or artist's work that you like is a good start. Or sending friendly messages or asks to someone. Just always be sure to be friendly and respectful.
I personally tend to notice the people I'm always seeing chatting in my notifications and then have made friends that way. It just seems like a natural progression if you're often talking to some people, conversations start to shift outside of just that content. Maybe to the show and then to other things. It's how I also tend to interact with others on here in order to make friends; commenting and sharing their work, sending asks or participating in their events, sending a message with something nice in it.
Though I agree, I think your initial comments to someone shouldn't be something about coming to read your work because it feels pressuring. I had a negative experience with that and didn't know how to handle that when I first got into the fandom and it made me uncomfortable because I never want to be rude or hurtful. So instead, maybe find ways to relate as a writer if you see them talking about writing in general, or other ways to make a comment that mentions that you also write. If they have time and want to read your work they will! And if not, that's okay too! I personally have a growing list of TBR and I mean nothing offensive if I can't get to someone's work, I just personally don't have as much time to read for example.
For me, I just sort of fell into making friends on here because of my writing. And I met so many other talented artists because of that and I've become "fans" of them as well and have had friendships form that way. And it's not just content creators, I've made friends with many wonderful people in the community who are reading my works too! It's fun to chat and dissect the show or to relate about other things (I'm a mom and have met other lovely moms here).
So my advice is to just keep reaching out and talking to people! Some conversations might lead somewhere and some might not. And that's okay! Everyone is different. I personally think the Daredevil fandom as a whole is absolutely amazing and full of wonderful and talented individuals who are more often than not open to making friends ❤️ I always am!
And like I said above, for anyone that has any other tips, please feel free to add them!
(And thank you so much!!! ❤️ I'm so glad you enjoy those stories!!)
#bella answers#making friends in the DD fandom#this fandom is honestly the BEST ❤️#please feel free to add any other tips!!

Dying Light: The Beast AMA 26/09
'sup.
Here I am, bringing you a bunch of the answers from today's AMA. It's not all of them since quite a few of them were either already answered in an FAQ or covered in an article. That, and I'm a picky bitch. If you want to read up on the whole session, check out the official Dying Light Discord.
I'm also not quoting all the questions entirely, gonna shorten them a bit.
Q: Do stats, upgrades, and gear carry over between The Beast save files and Dying Light 2's base game?
No, as Dying Light: The Beast is a new standalone game and the transfer of goods and progress won’t be possible between games.
That means I can't descend from the heavens and bring Junior a new shiny crowbar. Dang.
Q: Will there be open-world activities and side quests?
You can expect a number of side quests and also additional open-world activities.
Woo! I dig a map full of question marks. Tickles the brain.
Q: how is crane alive lol, he turned at the end of the following i thought?
We’re not going to spoil the fun of finding out yourself when Dying Light: The Beast launches. The new game connects the narratives of Dying Light and Dying Light 2 Stay Human and will finally answer some long-standing questions about the canonical endings of both games.
*trough gritted teeth* I'M FINE
Q: Who'll make the music?
For the Dying Light: Beast we're again collaborating with Olivier Deriviere who's already composing a new soundtrack. This time the music will represent the forested, survival-centric atmosphere of the game. You can expect something very unique and different from Olivier's previous works.
Music to my ea..r.s.. Sorry.
Q: Is The Beast running on a new/upgraded version of the DL2 engine and will those upgrades carry over into DL2?
Dying Light: The Beast uses another iteration of our in-house engine and offers numerous graphical improvements compared to the previous Dying Light projects - we focused on the details that make the world more vivid and immersive - lighting, materials and weather effects, some of these developments already are or will be introduced in Dying Light 2 Stay Human.
Q: Will we see any returning characters?
I’m sure you’re excited to see familiar faces, but we can't spoil the story for you just yet. For now, let's enjoy the fact that Kyle Crane is back, and he's back in his true form - voiced by the absolute voice acting master, Roger Craig Smith.
One standing ovation, please.
Q: Will we be able to swap from a third person to first when driving vehicles?
We’re focusing on TPP only as it allows for better environmental awareness while driving in the zombie-filled open world of The Beast.
Aw, man-
Q: To what extent will the choices the player makes matter?
For Dying Light: The Beast, we have chosen a linear story. This is a new adventure in the Dying Light series so our goal with this game is to provide a fresh and engaging story. We believe this approach will allow us to present a more immersive experience for our players.
Q: Will there be Easter Eggs?
Absolutely! There will certainly be secrets and Easter eggs to discover in Dying Light: The Beast. But revealing them now would just spoil all the fun, wouldn't it?
Getting my basket ready to do some egg hunting.
And with that, I'll blow you all some kisses and then go off to snooze land. Good Night and Good Luck.

"What were you thinking?" Natasha paced the room, her controlled voice contrasting her angry movements.
Under normal circumstances, you would be completely distraught and self-deprecating if Natasha Romanoff was upset with you, but these were anything but normal circumstances. You had no doubt the guilt would register soon, but at the moment, you were too lost in your head.
They left you.
How the fuck were you gonna help now?
You knew that soon, tomorrow most likely (if Tony's deal with Ross still happened), the team would be fighting. It made you angry to think about how Peter would be dragged into the fight by Tony/ You had to do something but you didn't see any chance that Natasha would let you out of her sights. You couldn't just sneak out again. Not with Natasha watching over you and Tony's security system.
"What are you thinking about?" The sheer amount of exasperation in her voice made you look up.
"I'm sorry, Nat," you mumbled.
Her face softened. "(y/n), please, talk to me. Are you okay?"
'Are you okay?'
Well, you never could answer that question quite honestly.
"I'm just..." your voice faltered, soft and grieving, "...they left me. How did this happen?"
Natasha felt her heart break at the hopeless look in your eyes, your voice the voice of someone who was giving up. She sat down beside you, the couch sinking beneath her weight.
Looking you dead in the eyes, she said, "None of this is your fault. Okay? None of it."
You shook your head, barely able to keep the tears from escaping. "It is. All of it. I should've been able to stop it."
"How? How was one person going to change this? (y/n), you can't see the future, and even if you could, this was going to happen. After all the things that have happened, there was no avoiding this." Nat wrapped her arms around you, letting you rest your head on her shoulder. "Listen, (y/n), you haven't done anything wrong."
You sobbed, tears escaping your eyes at her words. You hurriedly tried to wipe them, not wanting to ruin Nat's shirt. "It's all my fault. I should've stopped it."
"Hey, no, no. Don't think that. This isn't your fault, okay?" Natasha rubbed your back soothingly, trying to provide whatever comfort she could.
You wanted to believe her.
But you couldn't.
Not when you knew the timeline backwards and forward, not when you'd been obsessed with the MCU for years, dreaming of meeting your heroes for so long you couldn't remember ever wanting anything else.
But you had already broken down enough. It didn't matter if you felt like shit, your guilt building daily. You would use that guilt, you would use whatever you could to make sure that it didn't end the same.
So you forced yourself to stop the tears, pulling away from Natasha reluctantly and drying your face with your sleeve.
"Nat, do you really think that signing the Accords will help?"
If she was anyone else, someone not quite as good at hiding their emotions, she would've stiffened. Instead, she looked at you, surprised. "I don't think that matters right now. You shouldn't worry about this stuff, you should be resting."
It was apparent she didn't want to talk about it, but you needed to know. "Do you, Nat? Like, you believe that everything will be better if you sign that thing? Speaking of, there's no way that it's legal to spring all that on you guys with only three days notice, is there? And even if there is, it's bullshit."
"There's not many options, (y/n)."
"I know, which is ridiculous. You all have saved the world multiple times and now they're tryna punish you for it. How is that fair?"
She smiled sadly. "Not everybody cares about what's fair."
Unfortunately, you knew that fact all too well.
~~
Natasha couldn’t believe you had done that-
Snuck out, snuck in to a government building, then ran around with some fugitives, all of it the day after getting a concussion.
How could you be so reckless? She knew you were smart, knew you understood the risks to your health, the dangers of hanging around people wanted by over 110 countries, people who were being hunted by some not-so-friendly soldiers.
When she had received the call that you had arrived at the building and you weren’t answering her calls, she knew what was happening.
But she knew why you did it.
Of course she knew.
At times, Natasha also felt like saying “fuck the world” and running off with her new family.
But she couldn’t do that- not like before. There was too much at risk. Too many people could get hurt. Hell, you were already hurt.
There were too many things wrong, too many dangers of not signing the Accords. And sure, she knew that the UN had deliberately informed them only days before to ensure their cooperation, but she also knew she couldn’t do anything about that shit.
And the reality was, the Avengers did deserve to be held accountable. Even Steve understood that. The problem was that the UN wasn’t just demanding their accountability, it was also demanding total control of everything they did. That’s the part she had a problem with, and also the part Steve had acted out on.
They wanted to treat the Avengers like their own personal group of attack dogs- just as Hydra had done to the Winter Soldier.
But Natasha knew just how far the governments would go to have them under control, she’d seen the things people in power would do for control, she couldn’t allow that sort of danger to happen to the people she loved.
Even if she didn’t agree, for the moment, she knew she would go along with the Accords.
If only to keep the people she cared about safe.
~~
You looked up when you heard the phone ring.
For once, it wasn't your phone going off. It was Natasha's. Well, you had smashed your phone so that option was out.
Wait-
Smashed the phone. The phone Tony gave you. The new phone. Fuuuck.
"What, Tony?" Natasha said, answering the call.
You watched, trying to see if her body language gave away anything. But then it was Natasha Romanoff, so of course her body language didn't betray anything.
Even when Nat ended the call, you still knew just about nothing concerning what she had been talking about with Tony. That was, until she looked at you and sighed.
~~
"Why am I here again?" Your voice was nervous, appropriate since you were back in the building you had snuck into earlier. You felt like you were in trouble and your stomach felt like someone was jumping around inside it.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe so you don't run off with people wanted by the law again?"
That's fair.
You were pretty sure you knew why Natasha had had to meet Tony.
~~
"I don't suppose you have any idea where they are?" The Secretary's question was loaded with dissatisfaction.
You were already fuming just standing in the presence of the man.
"We will. GSG-9's got the borders covered. Recon's flying 24/7. They'll get a hit. We'll handle it." Tony was trying to reason with the dumbass man.
"You don't get it, Stark. It's not yours to handle. It's clear you can't be objective. I'm putting Special Ops on this."
You gritted your teeth, barely able to restrain yourself from erupting at the man. Natasha had reluctantly brought you there and she would not be happy if you started another argument with Ross.
Natasha spoke up. "What happens when the shooting starts? What, do you kill Steve Rogers?"
"If we're provoked. Barnes would've been eliminated in Romania if it wasn't for Rogers. There are dead people who would be alive now. Feel free to check my math."
You know what? Fuck it.
"'If it wasn't for Rogers', yeah, you know what else would've happened if it wasn't for him?” The eyes of three other people drew to you at you words, all with different looks behind their gaze. "Do you have any actual appreciation for the man? He sacrificed so much for what he believed in, saving countless lives. And he never tried to nuke a city with millions of people in it. Tell me how he's the villain in this situation."
Ross's jaw ticked. "The situations are entirely different. And you keep bringing up the same thing, seems like children really can't get over anything."
For a moment, you were truly speechless.
Did this cranberry fucknugget just imply that nuking New York was something that you could just "get over"?
"You're a piece of shit." Your voice showed exactly how astonished and disgusted you were. "You really think that genocide is something that people should just 'get over'? Do you have no appreciation for human life? Fuck, and you're saying the Avengers are reckless and have no accountability. Where's your accountability you fucking asshole?"
You were seething, quite possibly the angriest you had ever been.
Did this shitstain hear himself?
"Who do you think you're talking to? I'm the Secretary of State of the United States of America. You're just a random kid who thinks they actually know something about the world. Well, guess what, sweetheart? The adults are talking."
You had never wanted more to hit someone than you did at that moment. Your fists were already clenched and you were right on the fucking edge of just letting loose and beating the old fucker.
You weren't the only person who was close to going off on the bastard.
"'Adults'? Really?" you scoffed. "Sure doesn't seem like you, you dumbfucker. You think that murdering millions is something that anybody should just get over, you inconsiderate shitstain."
"Stark, get a hold of your pet," Ross sneered at you.
Natasha had watched you go off on the stain of humanity but couldn't stand by any longer, even if you were perfectly capable of cursing him to hell and back.
Tony looked at Natasha and gulped.
She looked willing to kill.
"I would recommend shutting up if you want to leave alive, Secretary." Tony enunciated the word, ensuring that Ross knew just how little he gave a fuck about his position.
"Is that a threat?" Ross was uneasy but trying to remain confident, unfortunately for him, all his bluster was falling short.
"A threat? That?" Tony laughed. "No. But I do think that look is." He nodded to Natasha's expression.
When Ross saw the way Natasha was looking at him, he was reminded exactly who the most dangerous person in the room was. It wasn't the fuming teenager berating him, nor was it the billionaire glaring at him, it was the woman who had been scarily silent the whole time.
"We will get Rogers back." Natasha's words left no room for argument. "You will give us three days to gather them before sending out the guns."
Ross sputtered. "Three days? What? Are you crazy?" His protests died out the longer Natasha looked at him. He cleared his throat. "Fine. Three days. All of them."
And he left the room, trying to make it look like he hadn't been two seconds away from shitting himself. He didn't like Stark very much, but at least he knew how to handle him. He didn't think he could handle you or Romanoff. The two of you looked at him like you could snap his neck and enjoy it.
With the cockroach gone, you could finally unclench your fists. You had been so fucking close to throwing hands and while you appreciated Natasha standing up for you, you were sure you would've enjoyed cursing out the stupid ass-monkey to make sure he understood what a shit human he really was.
Although, you had something much more important to focus on.
He had given Nat and Tony three days. Three. In the movie, he had given them half that.
Which meant that despite how little it felt like it, things were changing, and at that point, you didn't care if it was directly your doing.
Now, you had a bit more hope. With a little extra time, maybe you could help the team. You just needed to find a way to convince Tony and Steve to come to some sort of agreement, of course, Steve didn't really have a problem with compromise, but he had a major problem with the abuse of power the Accords were asking for. So you needed to figure out a way for the Accords to change. After all, none of the Avengers had a problem with taking accountability, but they would need permission from the UN for any actions they tried to take and that could mean deaths that should've been avoided.
Yes, mistakes had been made by the Avengers, especially by Tony, but the Accords weren't just. Tony was signing them out of his own guilt, because of Sokovia. And after what his actions led to, he definitely needed more regulation, but imposing those same restrictions on the rest of the team wasn't fair.
It wasn't right and it could mean the death of countless people as a result, it was no mystery why Steve hadn't been on-board. Tony just wanted a quick fix for all the mistakes he'd made, Steve understood that the Accords wouldn't fix everything and even more people would be put at risk.
"The Accords have to change," you stated firmly.
Tony opened his mouth, ready to retort, but he stopped. He wanted to hear what you were going to say. He had allowed his guilt to influence his own decisions but he couldn't force anyone else to do something because of his mistakes.
You thought of the raft prison in the middle of the ocean, of the way Wanda had looked restrained and most likely drugged. "They aren't right. Look through the papers, there's so much morally wrong with it. I looked through them," you lied, "it mentions a raft prison in the middle of the ocean if you don't comply and they have the right to restrain you and hurt you as much as they think is justified."
Natasha had learned better than to be shocked by the atrocities of the government and so she believed you whole-heartedly, even if she didn't want to think that after everything, people still wanted to treat them like monsters rather than humans.
You continued, desperately trying to make them see how wrong everything was so they could help you make it right. "You can't force Steve to basically sign away all his human rights- you should never ask anyone to do that. This shit is all so deeply flawed and you can't just go along with it. How many people will suffer because of this thing? Because none of you can do anything without the permission of the UN? Taking accountability and being kept in check is fine, but how is keeping all of you as mindless soldiers without a single shred of autonomy any better than how Hydra used the Winter Soldier?"
