My Top 5 Upcoming Thai GL Series (I think you can probably predict most of these hehe)

1 - The Loyal Pin It's one of my favorite yuri novels (I own both the Thai and English versions). It's FreenBeck. It's promoting Thai culture on an international scale. It's the first Thai GL series to be backed by the MOC. It will break barriers... and my soul. I AM SOOO READY!!!

2 - The Last Case It's an original script. It stars openly queer actresses. It's being directed by N'App who is also openly queer. ESTER ORUCHE!!! The only reason it's not number one on my list is simply because it is Identity's first series and I have nothing to gauge their production by.

3 - Reverse 4 You I am a huge fan of Be My Favorite and while the premise is not exactly the same, it has its similarities. If this series comes anywhere close to being just as good, I'll be a very happy camper.

4 - Pluto Putting any issues I have with its source aside... I love Namtan Tipnaree. I tend to favor actors who have really great emotional range and Namtan can certainly deliver. Her being paired with an equally compelling actress like Film Rachanun certainly caught my attention. All I can hope for? That GMM will do right by them and the other female actresses involved 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾

5 - I'm Your Moon "กัษธิษฐาน" (the novel this series is based on) is a story of fated lovers and reincarnation...and that is one of my favorite tropes!!! The series is still in the very early stages of production, so anything can happen...

I'm generally not too concerned about genre or tropes in a series so instead, I'll answer you this...

My Top 5 Hopes for Future Thai GL Series

1 - Alright... there is one genre I want. VAMPIRES!!! Bet ya didn't see that one coming! 🤣🤣🤣 No...but in all seriousness, I'll take anything supernatural. Vampires, Sirens, Wiccans... it's all fair game. Bonus points if there's an incorporation of Thai mythology... there's such a rich history there.

2 - More Inclusivity. I'd love to see more sapphic stories beyond the standard variety. Give me trans leads, give me ace rep, give me neurodiversity, give me more disability rep, more Thai-black rep... there are so many identities that could benefit from more on-screen representation. I don't know if Thailand is fully there yet, but I hope someday we will be.

3 - Original Content. I'd love to see production companies develop their own original stories (much like The Last Case). I'm not saying to eliminate the Novel-to-Series model altogether, but original scripts tend to help diversify a genre.

4 - Step away from adapting Planoy novels. I probably sound like a broken record at this point, but my issue with them goes beyond their writing. I'll continue to say that they have contributed to the harm of the Thai queer community in both word and action. I will never support them and production companies should really stop giving them a platform. There are other, less problematic, GL authors who are more deserving of an opportunity.

5 - MilkLove in another, more mature GL. I'd (selfishly) love to see them in a series more suited to an older/adult audience.

...as for the fic, I don't know what to tell you hehe It's Shadowhunters. These are life/death situations... but just trust me. Not all is what it seems!!! (Thank you for reminding me to finish writing the fighting scenes for that. Those are always the most difficult to do and I've been putting it off for far too long)

I’m doing alright. My work has been pretty crazy and stressful for the past few years, and that led to burnout and a lack of creative energy. I’ve now started a Master’s program on top of everything else, so I suspect I’ll not be doing any writing for a few years while I complete that. I’m very excited for it though (mostly for it to be over, haha), and it’ll be great for my career, so it’s a worthwhile sacrifice.

I do have a huge chunk of the second chapter of Brother already written, as well as a piece from Tim’s POV and the one from Dick’s POV that you prompted, and I’d love to finish them someday. I don’t want to leave that fic hanging. I poke at them occasionally but haven’t been able to make significant progress.

But here, have a little snippet!

Jason kept himself ready to lunge after the kid even as he turned most of his attention towards disarming the various traps and alarms on his door. If the kid was going to run, now would be the time…

But, surprisingly, he didn’t. Tim stayed, still prepared for whatever danger response might be required, but let Jason guide him into his safehouse without complaint or resistance.

Jason caught a glimpse of the determined set of his lips and the calculating look in his eyes and realized, ah, he’s turned this into a mission. What better way to gather information on the Red Hood than by allowing himself to be taken back to a safehouse under the guise of a rescued civilian and see if he can catch him with his guard down?

It wouldn’t have worked if Jason had truly believed that Tim was a civilian. He would never have brought anyone else back to one of his safehouses. It wouldn’t really work out for Tim either, because Jason wasn’t stupid and he wasn’t planning on giving too much away. But he relaxed slightly now that he knew Tim probably wasn’t a flight risk at this point. But only slightly, because he might still be a fight risk.

He let Tim catalogue his apartment while he reset the alarms on his door. Just because he was pretty sure Tim wasn’t a flight risk now didn’t mean he wouldn’t become one again, and the last thing he needed at this point was someone, namely another Bat, sneaking into his safehouse unnoticed.

Tim must have realized there wasn’t much to see in this particular safehouse, because he turned his attention back to Jason just as he was finishing resetting the last trap. He’d kept his body between the door and Tim’s sight line to what he was doing, but if what Jason had heard about this Robin’s mind was true, the traps wouldn’t stump him for long if he was determined to get out, regardless if he’d seen how Jason handled them or not.

Jason turned to face him, resisting the urge to clap his hands together as he did so.

“Okay, kiddo. Let’s -”

“Tim,” Tim said.

“What?”

“My name. It’s Tim.”

Jason blinked behind the helmet. He hadn’t expected that. Of course, he already knew who Tim was, but presumably Tim didn’t know that Jason knew who he was.

And Jason vaguely remembered learning in his “what to do if you’re kidnapped as a civilian” lessons that it was important to try to humanize yourself to your captor, try to make them see you as a person rather than… whatever they’d kidnapped you for. As long as they weren’t a seasoned trafficker, sometimes it could convince them to let you go, or at least be less likely to hurt you. Jason grimaced. He’d have to be intentional about using Tim’s name.

That's not a weird question, that's a great question!

The answer is that the best pet snake for an absolute beginner to reptiles is the one you have researched fully and love the most. While it's true that some snakes are more forgiving in terms of husbandry and may be easier to keep in captivity, with proper preparation most snakes in the hobby can be suitable for a first-time keeper.

Corn snakes are not the first snake species I ever kept, but they were the snake that fit me best, and by coincidence are also one of the easiest to keep. I know other folks for whom boa constrictors were their true best match, or ball pythons, or sand boas, or king snakes. Even more challenging snakes like rainbow boas or old-world rat snakes can be a fine first snake if you are fully prepared.

I guess the questions you should ask yourself are: Why do I want a pet snake? What appeals to me most about having a snake? When I picture myself with a pet snake, what does it look like? How big should my snake be? What should their enclosure look like? How important is interaction with my snake, and how often will we interact? What sorts of activities will my snake and I partake in? Should my snake be more active or more snuggly? What will my snake eat? How much space, time, and money can I reasonably devote to this snake's enclosure and long-term husbandry? How likely is that to change within a snake's lifetime?

There are no wrong answers to these questions. Sit down and really think about it. When you have your answers, write a list of pros and cons for species that match what you're wanting and weigh them against one-another. Price out enclosures and supplies and compare them for an "easier" snake that tolerates your local climate better versus a more challenging species that needs more specific humidity and temperature ranges.

Finally, listen to your heart... but act logically. If your heart-song happens to be playing to the tune of a more challenging species, then follow it! Regardless of the species you choose, be ready to read a ton, find peer-reviewed scientific articles about the snake species you've selected, see if books on their keeping are available and read those, join online communities for that species, learn their husbandry inside and out and backwards, talk to breeders of that species, understand their natural history and their native habitat and be prepared to recreate it in captivity before you bring that snake home.

It's a process, but at the end of it you'll have exactly what you wanted and nothing less.
