Whew! Finally making it back to the Blog. I've been occupied on the homefront with some house projects. Can I just say that peeling wallpaper is very therapeutic. Getting that large piece successfully off the wall and then the layer of glue that comes off like suntanned skin in the summer is weirdly satisfying.

I've been reading a lot of Drarry and delving into Haphne for research purposes. I hate that Harry/Daphne is called Haphne when there are really clever ship names available. I mean PotDGrass or DGrassPot are ripe for the taking. LOL Or something with Pot and Grass (have to distinguish between the Daphne and Astoria).

I've updated The Azkaban Letters with Chapter 10. I'll make a separate post for that. But I admit to being very dejected that the hit count was low for the last chapter, and I won't even get into the kudos or lack of comments, but then when posting today, I discovered a mistake I'd made in updating last time. The original publication date for the fic is June 2007. When adding a new chapter, for some reason, I have to manually update the posting date for the new chapter to the current day. I'm hoping that was the reason. *looks around nervously*

Okay, onto other goodies.

What I'm reading (and for today, What I'm Looking At):

First up is a major Art Rec. I'm sure most of you have seen it, but just in case. Keep Driving by Anonymous (Shhh, we know who it is!) from @hd-wireless is one of those pieces that is a complete game-changer for a trope. This is FemSlash!Drarry, or as the artist put it in the tags, Lesbian Road Trip Montage. Established relationship. From the get-go, we're introduced to fab badass Draco driving the car. And then we meet HJP in all of her curvaceous glory. And Draco thinks so too. In every piece after the first, we see that Draco is in awe of her love. I'm not an artist in any way, but the colouring is dreamy and summery. We feel that we're on that road trip as a fly on the wall or windshield. I've not been a big fan of FemSlash!Drarry in story or art. If you have any recs for me, send them my way, but previously most have been cutesy or PWP. This series I want to see more, I want to read more but what is there now is enough. Just absolutely stunning.

Second is a fic also from @hd-wireless. The Waiting (43.5K) by Anonymous is a great piece of mystery writing. Summary:

It’s been almost ten years since Draco Malfoy disappeared during a routine Curse Breaker training exercise. Harry, his partner in more ways than one, is determined to figure out why. As the past resurfaces and the present fades into confusion, Harry discovers the only thing more unreliable than memory is love.

There are two timelines in this fic, the one before Draco disappears and then the one ten years later. The one ten years later can be a bit hard to read because Harry is so lost (which means the author wrote this extremely well so we can feel his pain). There are also sections in the current timeline where we know things are wrong, as does Harry, but no one else does. It's scary, it's tense, it's delish!

One final note, read the Author's note and tags before diving into this amazing fic.

I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with @creativepromptsforwriting but if you're a writer or artist too I think, you could spend hours on the blog. The series for What is? on Wednesdays earlier this year was wonderful, especially for those new to writing. They're definitions of terms we see all of the time but are sometimes afraid to ask because you might look stupid. Some examples defined are What is a Drabble, Deus Ex Machina, Missing Scene, etc...

There are thousands of prompts for different genres, there are fic titles to use beginning with every letter of the alphabet, and one of my favs was Same Height Ideas; basically, what can two characters the same height do, like rub noses without bending down or looking up, staring directly into their eyes, or one wearing shoes to get the other off balance. All very cute.

Also, there are examples of dialogue one-liners even for Smut. Sorry, I could go on and on.

I'm sure someone mentioned this before but it feels like Raxy-manbaby's rhetoric is borderline segregationist. Like he's like "dragons should never interact with humans, this is a humans only zone and if they do, they will be prosecuted and murdered even if humans come to their area". And the whole "refuse to humble themselves" reads off as "refuse to acknowledge human supremacy". It's flat out racist, and the only reason people are not noticing it or at worst giving him a pass is because it's fiction.

I don't have my redshit folder at hand right now, but someone jokingly replied to someone on the 3h sub some time ago (2 years? 3 years? You lose the meaning of time in this fandom) something like "separate but equals? It sure wasn't racist as hell."

Worry not, people notice it and fwiw, it's one of the reasons why I'm so annoyed at the Aeneid - because of its status : it was meant to be both a fic and supposed to be a meta commentary of the game, and many people swallowed it up complete with the nonsense that Billy was never biracial (or whatever Sitri was) or worse, they "become human again" as if having Nabatean blood/soul is something you can wash as easily as a hairdye.

I guess when you have to twist yourself in pretzels to pretend Supreme Leader going "you are a nabatean you cannot rule over humans" isn't pulling the race cardn, the only pretzel you end up with is one that is rancid and has been chewed by all kinds of unsavory people and we end up back to square 1 "separate but totes equal i'm telling you so please bow your head otherwise you defy me and you're going to fall on my axe".

Fanfic is fanfic, and meta is meta, they're two different things !

Imo the conflation always boils down to the same set of pixels : granted, I earlier joked about how FE16 might have been a social experiment, if you simp very hard after a waifu, will you follow that waifu to the depths of hell, or will your common sense inform you that this waifu might be, uh, titillating material but nothing more?

The rise of disturbing discourse on the net though (remember the "he's mentally ill he shouldn't have babies?" or, in general, the sheer fact that someone had to remind people that segregation was racist as hell, or whatever the hell is going on in that server) is, tbf, sort of worrisome anon and unlike the trolls of the old days, the "maybe imperialism is good sometimes" people seem serious in their views so while it's not my job to tell them to touch grass and turn off their computer, I prefer to laugh at the sheer idiocy.

I mean, nothing's as funny as someone very seriously writing a wall of text to explain "how BaD feudalism is" under a shitpost lol

Since I got a good little handful of asks about it today, I wanted to pop in while I'm waiting on this file to send to my pc and say: I think *most* artists absolutely value comments and support more than they let on. It's a little embarrassing to shout it from the rooftops, or at the very least a slight faux pas, but it's true. In truth, I've been extremely down lately, but logging in to see comments, reblogs, likes, tag comments or getting asks posing fun little questions offer a lot of cheer even when the gloom is hanging a bit heavy. It's like, sure, I'm drawing ultimately for myself-- this comic/these characters are more self-indulgent than the most decadent fondue in existence, but I've also always wanted to work on a project like this when working on various other NDA projects for other people in the past. So the comments and engagement are far from a bother or annoyance, they mean the world to read, instead! So, thank you!

the trailer. the scenes from book 1 we didn't get in season 1 like the whirlpool (which I know we saw in the teaser too but still) and belly and jere at the movies. the book lines. 'the future is uncertain but it's still mine.' FREAKING BACK TO DECEMBER TAYLOR'S VERSION OH MY STARS we're really getting the most perfectly fitting taylor songs with the promos and the fact that not only is back to december perfect but we got an early preview of it?? this trailer (though I'm surprised how much it's giving away like woah there) feels like book 2 it has all the summer magic but it's also so heavy. im ready for july 14 but also terrified
