With various chores completed, and Smiler still busy editing (they spent most of the afternoon adding various transitions and effects and such to the video), Victor decided he wanted to talk to Alice, which I was happy to allow -- they shared a nice chat and a kiss by the wild chrysanthemum bush by the path to the barn (mostly because Alice, who HAD been dancing downstairs was told by her inner beast to “get outside already”). :) I then sent Alice to entertain Shadow while Victor tried making some eco parts on the Fabricator. . .

Aaand encountered a fun little glitch where Alice, for some reason, got stuck idling in the kitchen with her phone stuck to her hand and wouldn’t do anything else, even if I reset her. And attempting to have Victor interact with her ended up making HIM idle right in front of the washing machines. So I had to quit and restart. Now, FORTUNATELY I’d actually thought to save RIGHT before this nonsense happened, so I didn’t really lose more than a couple minutes’ worth of game, but I want you to know that in the ORIGINAL timeline, Victor’s attempt at making eco parts got him sprayed all over with dye, and so you missed out on Victor wandering around like this:

A shame, but obviously I couldn’t keep the timeline where two of my Sims were doomed to forever idle in place, now could I?

Anyway -- in the post-glitch timeline, Alice was able to successfully play with and then feed Shadow in the kitchen, while Victor successfully made three eco upgrade parts right in a row! Which was very handy for him, at least, since that meant he could actually start doing some eco upgrades on stuff around the house. With their other tasks done, I had them both go say hi to Moory (Alice after shooing away yet another fox from the chickens) -- Moory enjoyed Alice’s pets, but wasn’t impressed with Victor’s initial joke. Fortunately Victor was able to pull it back and get another six bottles of milk out of her -- this farm is going to have all the dairy products coming out of it soon enough!

thinking about how mulder loves to get scully a gift, usually terribly heartfelt, even if disguised as something flippant:

the superbowl vhs tape he brings her when she wakes up from her coma in one breath (and her deadpan "i knew there was a reason to live")

tickets for a football game to watch together in irresistible

bringing her flowers to the hospital in memento mori (he lies, saying he stole them from a guy with broken legs to make her laugh)

the birthday keychain in tempus fugit (and when she finds a meaning to it, he claims "i just thought it was a pretty cool keychain")

that is a man who is always thinking about her.

I love the Land vs Air OVA with all my heart but i'm so upset that they cut most of Tora's arc from the manga. Obviousy he and Tanaka have very similar storylines with both of them being taunted by the other team/doubted as the ace but Tora's comes from the interesting perspective of the ace on a team known for it's defense. Nekoma is typically seen by their opponents as more of a unit than individual players so Tora already doesn't stand out as much as other aces. Then there's the added pressure of him being one of the few second-year aces in the series. He's got a lot to prove and playing against a tricky team like Nohebi is a great way to put that to the test.

At one point he gets overshadowed by Lev, who definetly aligns with what an ace is expected to be. He's taller, his reach is insane, his spikes are strong (when they actually make it over the net lol), and he stands out to the crowd. Then Nohebi starts targeting Tora with serves and he gets even less chances to hit. But instead of being spiteful towards Lev or falling for Nohebi's provocations Tora knows that getting the ball up is just as important as scoring points.

Even on a team like Nekoma where everyone's a fantastic reciever Tora's really kills it! He's super consistent with good aim, and when your setter's as picky as Kenma that's important. Also he's good with both underhand and overhand recieves Again, it's a similar situation to Tanaka's arc with the other team aiming their serves at him to break his spirit but I think it has it's own charm. One thing I like about Tora in general is that he's always shown a lot of admiration for recieving even if it's not the flashiest skill on the court. Think the first-year flashback when one of the first things he did was admire Yaku's perfect A-pass. Guess that's par for the course for any Nekoma player.

Then there's the moment where he bumps Lev's failed blocked and immediately goes in for the spike, AND HE LANDS IT. After all his patience he finally gets to redeem himself ughhh.

Overall I love how these few chapters show that there's more to being an ace than amazing spikes. It's consistency, it's being an amazing all-around player, it's being a reliable teammate and coming back strong when your underclassmen need you. This mini arc is a great showcase of Tora's mental fortitude— despite his looks and short-temper he's great under pressure.

This whole page is golden. From Akane's adorable little reaction to the Kenma/Tora high five to Tora immediately ruining the moment. He's so annoying.

I think we as a society put a lot of weight on sex, when in reality it's just like... a thing we can do. it's like how I don't have my drivers license. a lot of people who do have their license get REAL worked up about the fact that I don't drive, and they don't really listen to me when I tell them that I want to, but there are outside factors influencing it. they all think they have the solution, they think it's silly that I'm 24 and can't drive, they think my world must be so small and limited.

but it's not, you know? sure, there are some places I can't go unless I get someone else to take me there, but it's not stopping me from living my life. it's just a thing I don't do yet

anyway, my point is that sex isn't a requirement for living a fulfilling life. it's also fair to be upset about having not had sex yet. but you're still, in the grand scheme of things, pretty fuckin young, anon. you're less than halfway through your life, and you've only been an adult for like... a third of that time. if you wanna fuck, put yourself out there, go out and meet people, and see what ends up happening, you know? there will be people you click with, if you look for them

or you can do what I did and find someone to have a deeply disappointing single hookup with where you don't get off and you find out later he didn't hear you when you said it was your first time, and then when he drops you off at your friend's house he doesn't even kiss you goodbye. that's also an option
