What if both presidential candidates die during the election time? I mean ik theres independent and stuff but everyone only focuses in the whole democrat vs republican thing, so like.... would the remaining debates and stuff be between the independents? Or do the runners up for demo and rep come up to be the main, even though they probably don't have enough time to prepare for this stage as much, since it's already halfway done.

Or is it whoever they appointed as vice president who now has to debate? Since normally they'd take over the position anyways if the potus is out of commission for whatever reason?

Like I don't think we ever went over this possibility in government class bc its like, a really unlikely situation but it still CAN happen. Like has anyone ever thought of a protocol to do for this???
