Three paces into the hallway, brown wood floors and white walls, youâre met with a smiling family picture. Only, youâre not in it. Because, itâs not a picture of Peteâs family. Pete doesnât have a family. Pete Mitchell has a daughter from a one night stand with a married woman.
Uff đŹ
The nickname stings you. Your name isnât Mitchell because your biological father had wanted it to be. Itâs Mitchell solely because your motherâs husband knew you werenât his and would rather die before letting you take his name.
Damn
Your throat is thick with the knowledge that all you knew Maverick to be, is now all that heâll ever be. An absent father, a fantastic pilot, a lousy cook. A thousand more things that youâll never know.
To know that you don't know a lot and will never know more is rough...
Itâs been almost two years since you even set foot in this house last. If you had known that Maverick was going to be gone this soon⊠you sit and think to yourself about if you would have maybe visited more. Probably not.
Sometimes being honest to oneself is not easy
He stares down at the pizza between the two of you as he chews through a bite, brows drawn together slightly. He hates thin crust pizza â itâs the worst kind of pizza. But, when you had suggested it, he had agreed with a tight-lipped smile.
Hey, nobody slander thin crust there are far worse kind of pizza âđ»
âIâm sorry.â Bradley blurts out. You both look across at each other, equally surprised that he has spoken. ââŠFor what?â You ask quietly, lips tugging into a small frown. âIâm sorry that Iâm here and heâs not.â Heâs just got to say it. He knows you probably wouldnât bring it up on your own, but thereâs a big elephant in this room. Bradley knows what itâs like to sit in your spot, and not know how to talk about it.
God they are lowkey awkward together and neither of them just knows what to do with themselves đ„Ž
âWe werenât that close.â You tell him, like thatâs supposed to make him feel better. It doesnât. Itâs like a blow to the chest. Youâll never get the opportunity to fix things, because of him.
I feel like this maybe hurts Bradley more than her..
Your teeth press into the inside of your cheek. Maverick hadnât ever described Bradley as this nervous.
đ
Nothing. A couple of beers and a block of good German cheese.
I mean it could be worse lolđ€·đ»ââïž
âUh... No, not really.â After a routine training presentation at the very beginning of their attachment, Admiral Simpson had once become so agitated by Maverick that he snapped his own reading glasses in half. Mav got a good laugh out of it, at least.
At that I would have laughed too đ€
Itâs an easy answer, rolling off of your tongue with a shrug of your shoulders and a deflated sigh. âPeople usually put us in the same boat â if they donât like him, they donât like me.â
That's really shitty, especially knowing Mav's reputation đ„Ž
Thatâs something that he thinks he can understand. Thereâs not an instant dislike, but thereâs a pity that he finds in the eyes of people who once knew his father.Â
At that they really share a bit of similar fate
Her boots hit the ground, your lips parting slightly as you realise that sheâs headed right for you. Bradley feels your arm tug in his grip and turns his head, taking note of the way youâre trying to shrink behind him. Lynn is a hugger by nature, and she was a good friend of Mavâs for a long time. She means well, but Bradley isnât going to let her touch you when he can see how unnerved it makes you.
Good thinking Bradley, nothing worse than an unwanted hug by a stranger đ«Ł
You check back over your shoulder, glancing briefly at the man behind you, who has assumed his best bodyguard impression.Â
I'm sure he does đ€
âMiss Mitchell,â The admiral takes his seat on the other side of his desk once again. âI want to first express my deepest condolences. Your father was a good man, and a⊠extremely skilled pilot.â Bradley almost scoffs. Even now, Cyclone canât manage to compliment him.
It seems his feeling run deep đŹ
âButâ heâs dead.â You frown, rendering Cyclone suddenly quiet. âHeâs got to be. Itâs been a week. No food, no water, sub-zero temperature. Whatâs the point in looking?â Bradley grits his teeth. He looks across at you, the muscle in his jaw ticking. Thereâs nothing in your expression, no fear or sadness. Your father deserved more than that. âThe point is to bring him home.â He bites from your side, staring straight ahead at Cyclone.
This is rough... I get her questioning the process, it's not something that someone is usually confronted with..
Youâre biting at the inside of your cheek so hard that you must be tasting copper, picking at the seam of your jeans and breathing like youâre trying not to cry.
đ„șđ„șđ„ș
âIâ fuck. I donât want to be here. I-Iâ Iâm going to have to find a job, and Iâll have to call my mom, andâ and my friends, andââ âHey,â Bradley mumbles, resisting the instinct to throw his arms around you. His brows draw together as he reaches out and squeezes your bicep, bending his knees so he can catch your eye. âItâs alright. Iâll take care of it.â You know that heâs just trying to be nice, but really, youâre sick of nice. Itâs all that Maverick ever was and it left you with no idea of who he really is.
She has every right to be angry, upset and sad even if he really just ries to be nice, this is just not a good situation anyway and with the news of the investigation it just got SO MUCH worseđ„Ž
He nods, closing his mouth, swallowing dryly. Thinking of what he can, feasibly, take off of your plate for you. The idea sparks in him. âYou need a job. I can get you a job. Um, your friends, we can call them and bring them down for a weekend?â He squeezes again at your bicep, nodding his way through his plans, trying to will the tears in your eyes not to spill over.
I like that he is thinking practical!
âI donât want to go back to his house.â It comes out as a whimper, and really just reminds Bradley that youâre in the same position that he was when he was just a little younger than you. Itâs a scared kid type of feeling, being all alone in the world. Being in an empty house had made it even worse. He licks his lips and glances towards the skies, watching the sun pass behind a cloud. âYou could stay at my place, for a night or two.âÂ
Just a night or two, sure đđ€
Ashes, Ashes | One | Bradley Bradshaw x Reader
masterlist | prologue | next chapter
Synopsis: In which Maverick didnât make it home after the Uranium mission. Heâs missing, presumed dead. There are things that have to be done â someone has to take care of the house, the bills.
So, Maverickâs daughter is back in Fightertown for the first time since she was in elementary school. Thereâs a gaping hole in both of their lives now, and somehow, the worldâs supposed to just keep on turning without him.
Warnings: mitchell!reader, no physical descriptors other than the implication that Bradley is taller, no use of YN, age gap (23/33), smut, angst, hurt / comfort, mentions of character death, mourning, military inaccuracies. âŠ
Crossing the threshold into Maverickâs home doesnât come naturally to either one of you. This place is something that you had both left behind. Outgrown. Itâs solely his. Itâs not your home and it has never been, until now. Now, youâre stuck here until things are figured out.
On that fourteen hour drive down to San Diego, you had a lot of time to think. How long is a person supposed to wait for a body to turn up before they go ahead and throw the funeral without it?
Three paces into the hallway, brown wood floors and white walls, youâre met with a smiling family picture. Only, youâre not in it.Â
Because, itâs not a picture of Peteâs family. Pete doesnât have a family. Pete Mitchell has a daughter from a one night stand with a married woman.
This picture is of a real family. Hung on the wall opposite the front door is a picture of Nick and Carole Bradshaw holding their infant son. Heâs bald and gummy. Theyâre grinning and showing him off like a prize trophy â so proud of him even though all he did in those days was drool and pee himself.Â
These days, their infant son is up to more important things. Their infant son grew to an upsettingly grand height and is carrying two of your bags in one hand behind you today.
âCâmon, Mitchell â these are heavy.â Bradley huffs softly from behind you, reminding you that youâre standing stationary and blocking his path.Â
The nickname stings you. Your name isnât Mitchell because your biological father had wanted it to be. Itâs Mitchell solely because your motherâs husband knew you werenât his and would rather die before letting you take his name.
You shrug your duffel bag closer to your body and turn left. Bradley huffs under the weight of your luggage from behind you, watching you walk your cute butt in completely the wrong direction. âWait, where are you going?â
Not struggling at all under the weight of your single duffel bag, you turn slowly to face him and frown slightly. âMy room.âÂ
You donât remember Bradley. Not in your own memories, anyway. You know he was around, youâve seen him in pictures but the image in your head doesnât match. Not quite right. Like puzzle pieces bent and forced together.
Heâs taller than he looked at his high school graduation, which sits pictured and framed above Mavâs mantle. Older, but thatâs to be expected. Up close, he looks more like his mother than his father. A slight bump in his nose and scars, nicely healed, but jagged and raised nonetheless dusted his cheek and his throat.Â
Even with all those differences, thereâs a familiarity to him that makes this all feel a little bit less suffocating.
Bradleyâs brows draw together. He gives a small nod in the direction of the spare room. âThatâs⊠I usually stayed in that room.â
âOh.â You hum. With Bradley being ten years your senior, the room was his long before it was yours. With him growing up so close by, it was probably his much more frequently than it was yours. Itâs not like you kept anything here anyway. Itâs just a guest room that you would occupy every now and again.
Thereâs a brief quiet between you.Â
âI just figured you could take the big room. âTil you get settled. Iâll go home once your car is fixed, if thatâs what you want.â Bradley adds on. That sad little look on your face is killing him.Â
The big room. The loft room upstairs. Youâre pretty sure that youâve never even been upstairs in this house.
âYouâre staying too?âÂ
Oh. Yeah. He hadnât addressed that point yet. Truthfully, he hadnât even been planning to stay. He hasnât even packed an overnight bag. But, from the second that you stepped out of the car and looked up at the house with that look on your face, he hadnât even considered leaving you here alone.
âJust âtil we get your car fixed,â He offers with a small shrug. âIâll be here to run you around until then.â
Like heâs doing this for your sake. Natasha has her own life to get back to and Bradley canât stand the thought of going back to his apartment alone.Â
âOkay,â You agree, turning to peer down the hall towards the spare room. Itâs nothing special â it really never felt like yours. âAlright, Iâll take Peteâs room.â
Pete. You call Maverick âPeteâ now.Â
Bradley just nods, shifting the weight of your bags and nodding for you to head for the stairs. All the floors in this house are tan oak. The entryway is now herringbone. With the help of a friend, Pete had done the entire thing himself.Â
Of course, as you walk silently across it, neither one of you would know that. Neither one of you was speaking to him last May, which was why he had needed a project in the first place.
Natashaâs outside on the phone. Bradleyâs footsteps thud on the wood of the stairs behind you, following you up. You stop at the top, leaving just enough room for Bradley to stand there behind you.
The door to Maverickâs room is open. His bed is made. Thereâs a book thrown on top of it, the spine cracked and used, the pages yellow from years out in the sun.
âNo way is he still trying to fucking finish War and Peace.â Bradley steps around you with your bags in his hands and heads straight for the book. Pete started this book before Bradley finished elementary school. Bradley twists and looks back at you. âHe always gets bored and stops reading, then forgets his page and starts again.â
Another slow nod. One foot in front of the other, your shoes along the tan oak floors. Your fingers trail the white walls. Maverick wouldnât have minded. This place was always messy before. Itâs not now.Â
This house is vacant and quiet, but itâs far from empty. Itâs filled to the brim, practically pulling apart at the seams with everything that Maverick was and planned to be. He was finishing War and Peace â he made it to chapter 253 this time; further than he had ever made it before.Â
Your throat is thick with the knowledge that all you knew Maverick to be, is now all that heâll ever be. An absent father, a fantastic pilot, a lousy cook. A thousand more things that youâll never know.
Four days of knowing, a fourteen hour drive down here, and itâs a book that stings like a cold slap to the face, reminding you of why exactly it is that youâre here.
Fire burns behind your eyes, blistering and stinging as Bradley sets your bags on the floor with a soft thud.
He turns with his attention completely on the book, his fingers extending towards the peeling cover of the paperback. His fingers curl around its weathered pages and he lifts it tenderly, examining the front at first.
Itâs too early to start this process bawling your eyes out, and you refuse to let Russian Literature be your downfall, again. That thick feeling sits in your throat like a stack of weights as you sit down on the end of Maverickâs bed. The mattress is soft, taking your weight without a squeak of complaint. Maybe he finally listened to you and got a bed that wasnât so harsh on his back.
Itâs been almost two years since you even set foot in this house last. If you had known that Maverick was going to be gone this soon⊠you sit and think to yourself about if you would have maybe visited more. Probably not.
âIâll change the sheets and stuff, then Iâll get out of your hair for a bit.â
Lifting your head, you blink at him. He has already started to pull back the comforter and strip the bottom sheet from the bed, awkwardly forcing you onto your feet again.Â
Mobile once more, you turn slowly to take in your surroundings. This is Maverickâs room. Itâs his house, you were prepared for that much â but this is his room. The last thing you want is to be alone in it all night.
âOh. Sure,â You nod, setting into motion to help take the sheets off. You watch him instead of what youâre doing.Â
Heâs so methodical about it, like none of this phases him at all. But then, youâve not seen how he has been for the past few days. âI was thinking of just ordering food tonight, since Iâm kinda tired â and Pete never had groceries. Would you want⊠to maybe join?â
âSure.â Bradley nods, tugging the pillows out of the cases. He glances up to you with a strictly polite, neutral smile. Quiet settles between the two of you until the bed is just a bare mattress and uncovered pillows.Â
Thereâs a moment of total stillness between the two of you. Your gaze flickers up, meeting his, and the realization settles between the two of you. Maverickâs favourite cologne was a French thing that some woman in the eighties had liked. Citrus in the shade of cypress wood. The scent fills the room like heâs standing between the two of you.
Bradley glances down at the white sheets in his hands. The snowy white peaks of those mountains, Maverickâs aircraft spiralling into them, engulfed in flames. In a sick way, Bradley hopes that he didnât manage to eject. At least then, it would have been instant. Maverick wouldnât have felt anything.
You watch his adamâs apple bob in his throat from the other side of the bed. The last you had heard, Mav and Bradley werenât on speaking terms. You wonder if this is as weird for him as it is for you.
âIâll put these in the washer. You can⊠unpack, or whatever.â He decides finally, already taking one step backwards, headed for the door. You stand there, blinking at him. Even with those steeped, broad shoulders, he makes it through the doorframe unscathed before he turns to check where heâs going.
He probably knows this house inside and out, just like he knew your dad. Once.Â
When it comes to wracking your brain and trying to remember Bradley Bradshaw, you canât ever come up with anything. Maybe a glimpse, here and there. A blue t-shirt with green stripes. His school backpack accidentally left in the backseat of Maverickâs convertible beside your shoddily installed car seat.Â
Truthfully, your experience with Bradley Bradshaw is limited. Heâs just as real to you as any of the other guys in the stories you grew up hearing about. Your very own Peter Pan is downstairs right now, trying to figure out Maverickâs ancient washing machine, just so that he doesnât have to stand up here and stare across at you.
He canât hide from you forever, though. Evening comes, and so does hunger.Â
He stares down at the pizza between the two of you as he chews through a bite, brows drawn together slightly. He hates thin crust pizza â itâs the worst kind of pizza. But, when you had suggested it, he had agreed with a tight-lipped smile.
Natasha has gone home. Itâs just the two of you. Sitting in this unchanged, all too familiar kitchen. Youâre barely unpacked. You set up a couple of things in Maverickâs bathroom, but it doesnât feel right to be in the big room upstairs. That wasnât ever your space to claim.
You chew absentmindedly at the bite you had taken. The TV in the living room is off. The record player is coated in a layer of thin dust already. Itâs dead quiet. The kitchen light is dim above your heads.
Thereâs a chip in the corner of the table on Bradleyâs side. Itâs there because Bradley was running through this kitchen when he was four years old and had tripped and knocked his front tooth out right here. His thumb trails the tiny mark, wondering how his teeth had ever been that small.
Wondering why you arenât angry with him, too.
Maverick had picked him up that day, turned him around and held Bradley while he cried, stemming the blood and quickly introducing the concept of the tooth fairy. He had done all that he could, and Bradley still found a way to resent him for what had happened to his own father.
Bradley hasnât ever done a thing for you. Except maybe pay for this pizza. And here you are, calm as can be.Â
The sauce base feels tangy and coppery, and the cheese makes him want to puke. He sets the slice down on his plate and wipes his hands on the paper towel beside him.
Finally, he lifts his head and looks at you. Your hair is up now, tucked out of your way after an afternoon of manual labour upstairs. Youâre wearing a stretched out old t-shirt. Bradley assumes you got it from a boyfriend.
Really, he doesnât think you look that much like your old man. He would really have to search for the resemblance. But, briefly, when you offer him a polite smile across the table, he knows that youâre Mavâs kid.
âIâm sorry.â Bradley blurts out.
Itâs his fault that Maverick didnât make it home.
You stop chewing. That last bite sits in your mouth, doughy and dry all of a sudden. You stare across at him, awkwardly making yourself swallow down the last of your bite of pizza and picking up the paper towel to wipe at your mouth.
âWe werenât that close.â You tell him, like thatâs supposed to make him feel better. It doesnât. Itâs like a blow to the chest. Youâll never get the opportunity to fix things, because of him.
But, he knows what itâs like to be told how to grieve. He just dips his head and nods awkwardly. âRight.âÂ
âI got a call from an admiral the other day,â You pick up the slice of pizza and pick at its toppings. Thereâs no one here now to tell you not to play with your food. Mav never really cared anyway. Bradley watches you, unhungry. âInvited me down to Miramar. He said he was a friend of Mavâs and that he could talk me through⊠this whole thing. How it works.â You explain with a shrug.
Bradley rubs a hand over the neatly trimmed hair above his lip. It feels like he has swallowed a golf ball, sitting here like itâs normal to be discussing the measures.
He knows how it works. It wonât be as simple as it was with his own father. At least Maverick had afforded him something to bury. For you, thereâs nothing.
âIâll have to be there around eleven.âÂ
âSure,â Bradley nods, scratching at the back of his neck. His legs tingle with stiffness. Clearing his throat, he shifts in the little wooden chair and stretches, knocking his foot into yours under the table. âOh. Sorry. Iâm sorry.â
Your teeth press into the inside of your cheek. Maverick hadnât ever described Bradley as this nervous.
âItâs fine.â You hum, pushing back in your chair and standing up from the table. âWell, Iâve been up since like⊠four, so I might just hit the hay.â
âSure.â Bradley breathes out, hands braced on his thighs, eyes focussed on that tiny chip in the corner of the table. âYeah. Goodnight.â
The downstairs bedroom seemed bigger when he was a kid. The twin-sized bunks on the carrier feel bigger than the wooden-framed bed that Maverick put in here. Bradleyâs shoulder is practically hanging off the side, and the old frame creaks with each movement he makes.
Itâs not like he would be sleeping much anyway. When he closes his eyes, the only thing he can see is the fireball Maverickâs plane had turned into as it fell.
Bradleyâs hunched over the coffee pot by the time that you wake up. He hears you coming down the stairs and straightens up like he wasnât three seconds from throwing the stupid thing at the wall, clearing his throat and turning around.
It occurs to him that he should have put a shirt on. This isnât his place. Itâs yours, now, he guesses â either way, he hadnât considered making you uncomfortable. He folds his arms over his naked torso as you stroll into the kitchen, hair mussed and rubbing at your eyes.
Youâre wearing big socks and the same big t-shirt you had worn to eat the pizza last night. He canât tell if youâre wearing shorts or not.
âMorning,â He offers up, making you lift your gaze from busily tapping at your phone. Your gaze lands squarely on his navel â more so, how low his shorts sit on his hips and the way a soft trail of brown hair ventures from there to his bellybutton.Â
Blinking, you find his face.
âCoffee machineâs broken, we can stop somewhere on the way to base if you like.â He leans down a little bit, like an awkward teenager shrinking away from a family picture. You lock your gaze on his, trying not to glance back down at his muscles.Â
âOh. Thatâs not broken â if you hit it hard enough, itâll work.â You head right for him, fuzzy socks padding across the floor so softly that it really does startle him when you grab the copy of War and Peace that now sits on the kitchen counter, and slam the book right into the side of the coffee machine.
He whips around as the machine whirs to life. You set the book back down gently, and look up at him. He sets his jaw, brows knitted together, searching your face.
Maverick never taught Bradley anything like that. In fact â Bradley always, always was taught the opposite. You never take the easy way out; if somethingâs worth fixing, then you fix it right.
Then you, you on the other hand, beat the thing with the heaviest book you can find? He just doesnât get it.
âWell. Thanks.â He guesses, turning his bemused expression back to the brewing coffee.Â
He hadnât been expecting you to do that. Doesnât take a genius to figure that out, given the way heâs still glaring at the machine. That coffee pot is older than you are, and Mav never taught him that trick?
âSo this guy, the one who called me,â You skim your fingers along the cool granite countertop, just to have something to do, âHe was the guy calling the shots up there?â
Bradley blinks. He doesnât know how much you know about the way all of this works. He knew everything there is to know long before he ever enlisted, but that was because he wanted to know.
âUm,â Bradley grabs his mug and takes a step back for you to get yourself one. âHe was our mission command so, kind of. He gives orders â but, yâknow, everything happens fast, itâs⊠itâs hard to call the shots from back on the boat.âÂ
âDid he like Mav much?â You ask, head tucked inside the fridge door as you scan for anything to make your coffee a little less black. Nothing. A couple of beers and a block of good German cheese. You swing it shut with a resigned sigh, wondering if youâll be here long enough to need groceries.
The thought flashes across your mind â whatâll happen to this place when you leave it behind?
âUh... No, not really.â After a routine training presentation at the very beginning of their attachment, Admiral Simpson had once become so agitated by Maverick that he snapped his own reading glasses in half. Mav got a good laugh out of it, at least.
âGreat.â Agitation creeps into your tone as you curl your fingers around a plain white coffee mug. All of his kitchenware is plain white.Â
âWhat?â Bradley tilts his head, trying to catch a glimpse at the look on your face, stuck between whether youâre sad or pissed off.
Itâs an easy answer, rolling off of your tongue with a shrug of your shoulders and a deflated sigh. âPeople usually put us in the same boat â if they donât like him, they donât like me.â
Thatâs something that he thinks he can understand. Thereâs not an instant dislike, but thereâs a pity that he finds in the eyes of people who once knew his father.Â
He screws his mouth up, shaking his head and reaching for you without thought. His palm claps against your shoulder, platonic and soothing, but the first time he has touched you nonetheless. âIâll be there. He wonât say a thing.â
Glancing upward, while his palm lingers on your shoulder, your eyes flit across his features. He doesnât know quite what youâre searching for, or whether you find it. His fingers squeeze softly against your skin before the touch is gone all together.
You drink your coffees in parallel, both subtly miserable in your silence but comfortable in it anyway. Itâs difficult to prepare for a meeting like this â you donât have a clue of what to expect.Â
Bradley wears black jeans and boots with a plain white t-shirt, which convinces you not to wear the more formal dress you had thought youâd have to wear. You slip into his passenger seat in a skirt and Mary Janes.
He drives a loud, blue vintage Bronco. It sparkles inside and out, and makes your dusty old car look even worse.Â
Bradley settles behind the wheel to the sound of chilled seventies music, the radio turned low. He drives with three fingers curled around the bottom of the wheel and the other hand resting absently on the stick shift.
Even though he seems calm enough behind the wheel, you watch him chew at the inside of his cheek for the duration of the drive. Gears tick away inside his head. His knee only stops bouncing nervously when itâs time to press his foot against the pedal.
Heâs not as good at pretending as he thinks he is; you silently appreciate that he tries, either way.
Bradley, truthfully, spends the entire drive thinking about the last time he was face to face with Admiral Simpson. âSon, Iâm doing this for you.â He had sworn, face sullen, uttering the exact same words Pete Mitchell once had when delivering the words that had torn Bradley from him the first time.
Only, Admiral Simpson wasnât pulling Bradleyâs papers â he was just putting him on a month long bereavement leave. His protests had fallen on deaf ears once again, as they had fifteen years ago. Heâs now a week into that leave, but it feels like longer.
It turns out that when you cut sleep from the equation, everything feels a lot longer. In his own apartment, his routine has been getting up at 2am after hours of tossing and turning, going for a run all the way down to the docks, coming back and showering, then waiting for the sun to rise.
Last night, heâd been awake in that creaky old twin bed, struck by the realisation that if he spent all night tossing and turning â one, he might actually break the old bed frame, and two, the squeaking of it would definitely keep you up.Â
All it had taken was the focus of trying to sit still for so long to finally knock him out. It was the best that heâd slept since the mission.
He kind of hopes that itâll take him a while to figure out something to do with your car; at least that way heâll be able to sleep at night.Â
âYou ready?â His voice startles you from your daydream, the engine cutting out with a jingle of the keys as he stretches forwards in his seat to shove them into his pocket. âWeâre headed just over there.â
âYeah, letâs get this over with.â Youâre stepping down and swinging the heavy door shut before youâre taking your next breath, leaving him to catch up to you.Â
His long strides have him at your side before long, reaching ahead of you to pull open the glass door to the post headquarters.Â
This process has already been easier with him at your side. Heâd coolly handed over his service ID and greeted the guard at the gate by name, and he stops you from turning sharply down the wrong hallway with a soft bump of his shoulder against yours.
He catches your forearm as you try to blow right past the front desk, his grip loose but firm.Â
âRooster.â The woman behind the desk stands up sharply, looking sharp in her service khakis, her entire face creased with a deep worry. Sheâs older, maybe around Mavâs age. âI heard, Iâm so sorry.â
Rooster loosens his hold on your forearm, his lips flattening into a line. He stands up straight, his interaction with the woman nothing if not totally polite. His thumb trails across the bend of your wrist as he nods his head towards you.
âThank you,â He says softly, seemingly unaware of the way youâve stiffened in the presence of this woman. âWeâre, uh⊠weâre just here to see Cyclone, Lynn.â
Her warm, brown eyes whip towards you, widening. Recognition floods her features as she pieces together who you must be.Â
She means well, but Bradley isnât going to let her touch you when he can see how unnerved it makes you.
âWeâre a little late. Iâll catch you at the O-Bar this weekend?â His fingers uncurl from your forearm and his palm falls flat between your shoulder blades, giving you a gentle nudge and silent permission to avoid her hug.
The woman stops and thereâs another polite, departing exchange between the two of them while you continue down the hall.
Bradley catches up to you as you rap your knuckles against the doorframe, fingers trembling when they come to settle back against your thighs.
âMiss Mitchell.â A chair scrapes along the tiled floor, Cycloneâs signature rumbling voice carrying out into the hallway. His boots tap across the ground, his face creased with sincerity and his hand outstretched when he notices Bradley standing behind you. âBradley Bradshaw.â
You check back over your shoulder, glancing briefly at the man behind you, who has assumed his best bodyguard impression.Â
Standing tall, his uniform crisp and his greying black hair combed neatly, Admiral Beau Simpson slips his palm into yours and shakes your hand curtly. The sunlight catches on his shining name badge, his face heavy with lines and sharp angles.
Letting your hand go, he then reaches to your right to shake Bradleyâs. Bradleyâs chest bumps your back as he leans into the handshake.
You step away from him, angling yourself closer to the doorframe. âHe just gave me a ride here. Is it okay if he comes in?â You answer.
âOf course,â Cyclone is far more polite to you than he has ever been to Bradley. âAnything you need. Please, take a seat.â
It feels a little bit wrong standing before his boss in jeans, and sitting before him. Everything about this feels a little bit wrong. Bradley rests his chin against his fist.
You sit in the chair beside him, shoving your trembling hands under your thighs, straightening up and trying to look as brave as you can.Â
It shouldnât be this stranger sitting beside you in this meeting â your mother should have come with you.
âMiss Mitchell,â The admiral takes his seat on the other side of his desk once again. âI want to first express my deepest condolences. Your father was a good man, and a⊠extremely skilled pilot.â
Bradley almost scoffs. Even now, Cyclone canât manage to compliment him.
âWe are forever grateful for his service, and the sacrifices he made on behalf of our country. I understand that this is an extremely difficult time, and Iâd just like to say that Iâm going to personally make sure that this process is as easy as it can possibly be.â
You blink at him. Jet engines rumble on outside of the window. People bustle on outside of the closed office door.
Cyclone glances towards Bradley.Â
âWhen a man is lost in action, our resolve is to initiate a search and rescue effort as soon as possible,â The admiral explains, leaving out the part where that search and rescue effort had been delayed by seventy-two hours after Mav disappeared. âWeâve been working tirelessly, and our efforts to locate your father are ongoing.â
Your brows knit together.
âButâ heâs dead.â You frown, rendering Cyclone suddenly quiet. âHeâs got to be. Itâs been a week. No food, no water, sub-zero temperature. Whatâs the point in looking?â
Bradley grits his teeth. He looks across at you, the muscle in his jaw ticking. Thereâs nothing in your expression, no fear or sadness. Your father deserved more than that.
âThe point is to bring him home.â He bites from your side, staring straight ahead at Cyclone.
You shoot him a look. When itâs clear that you arenât going to say anything else, Cyclone clears his throat to continue.Â
âMiss Mitchell, we do have to prepare ourselves for the other outcome. If recovery efforts are unsuccessful, in two weeks time, he will be listed as formally âMissing in Actionâ. If thatâs the case, we will honor him with a memorial service and all of his service records and personal effectsÂ
are delivered to you.â
You drag your teeth across your bottom lip, swallowing hard and giving a small nod of your head.
âOkay. Two weeks?â
âThis is going to be a longer process,â Cyclone warns you. Heâd heard that you had come down specially for this, and he doesnât want to mislead you about the time frame. âThe recovery mission, if unsuccessful, will be suspended in two weeksâ time. After that, weâd like you to be local for the investigation.â
âInvestigation?â
âOf ourselves. To ensure that the Navy had performed its due diligence, that kind of thing⊠Iâd expect us to be here for a good few months.â He explains.
After that, itâs like Bradley can see a switch flip for you.Â
Youâre biting at the inside of your cheek so hard that you must be tasting copper, picking at the seam of your jeans and breathing like youâre trying not to cry.
Heâs still confused when heâs all but chasing you across the parking lot, listening to you try to control your breathing.
âHey, hey, hey,â He tries, approaching you cautiously as you crowd yourself against the passenger side of his car. âItâs alright. Weâll get through it, itâs just a couple of months.â
âIâ fuck. I donât want to be here. I-Iâ Iâm going to have to find a job, and Iâll have to call my mom, andâ and my friends, andââ
âHey,â Bradley mumbles, resisting the instinct to throw his arms around you. His brows draw together as he reaches out and squeezes your bicep, bending his knees so he can catch your eye. âItâs alright. Iâll take care of it.â
You know that heâs just trying to be nice, but really, youâre sick of nice. Itâs all that Maverick ever was and it left you with no idea of who he really is. âOf what? Thereâs so much that I have toââ
You sniff, turning your gaze towards the ground. The lump in your throat burns and bobs as you try to swallow it away.Â
Mav really is never coming back.
âI donât want to go back to his house.â It comes out as a whimper, and really just reminds Bradley that youâre in the same position that he was when he was just a little younger than you. Itâs a scared kid type of feeling, being all alone in the world. Being in an empty house had made it even worse.
He licks his lips and glances towards the skies, watching the sun pass behind a cloud.Â
âYou could stay at my place, for a night or two.âÂ

Puppy- Pedri
Life has been a lot recently I moved away from my hometown and my parents to move in with my boyfriend after being long distance for nearly two years. Getting to live with him has been amazing I love Pedri so much and now we don't have to miss each other in between being able to visit one another. Moving from Tenerife to Barcelona has also meant I needed to find a new job which luckily didn't take long so I've just started at a new company and moved which is a lot all at once but so far it's been mostly good.
I do feel like I'm kind of just getting through each day I wake up and then I'm at work and then I come back home again. My life doesn't feel like my life anymore I had a whole routine back home but now everything is different and I don't have the little things in my routine that helped each day feel less mundane. The best part of my day is when Pedri gets home and we can cuddle on the sofa and watch a movie which has become a daily routine. Don't get me wrong I love my new life as I get to be with Pedri but it's a lot of change all at once and I feel like it's finally catching up to me and I'm starting to miss home a little.Â
It's going to take some time to get used to being here but I'm sure eventually Barcelona will start to feel like home and I'll forget all about this time where I felt out of place. I know this is where I'm supposed to be as otherwise Pedri would've never come into my life and he's definitely the best thing that's ever happened to me. When we get used to living together and I get used to the city I'm sure it will all be perfect right now we are just going through an adjustment period.Â
Pedri's POV
Like most days when Y/n got home she seemed stressed until she saw me then she put a fake smile on her face. I can tell she's faking it because the smile didn't reach her eyes like it always does when she's actually smiling. I know the move has been a lot on her we both knew the first few weeks would be hard but I can tell she's still struggling and that just breaks my heart. It's not that she doesn't want to be here as when we go places together she really enjoys herself but whenever I have to leave her or she goes to work the next time I see her she looks stressed and just generally unhappy.Â
I should've known that moving so far from home and getting a new job all at the same time would be hard for her but I underestimated how big of a change that would be for her. I remember when I first moved here I didn't know anyone and it was my first time living alone it was scary and I missed home a lot and that must be how y/n feels as I know she is really close to her family so not being close to them distance wise anymore is difficult. I want to do something to make her feel more at home here but I have no idea what the right thing to do is as I can't just magically help her settle in.Â
This has been on my mind for a few days and I can't decide the right thing to do so I've decided that I'm going to ask some of the other guys if they have any ideas. I've told Ferran about my dilemma but he was no use and the same goes for Gavi neither of them gave me any serious ideas they just joked around like they always do. Asking them made it clear that I need to talk to one of the older guys who might actually offer some sensible advice.Â
"Hey Raphinha can I get your advice on something?" I askedÂ
"Of course man what's up" he saidÂ
"You know y/n moved in with me a few months ago well I just feel like she hasn't fully settled in and I don't know what to do she just seems stressed and unhappy" I saidÂ
"That's hard she must just miss home I know this isn't the answer your looking for but time is the best thing for that and just talk to her asking her how she feels will help you understand what you can do to take some of the stress away" he advisedÂ
"Thanks man I'll definitely talk to her" I saidÂ
"Wait Pedri did you say y/'s missing home" one of coaches said from across the hallwayÂ
"Yeah she just seems to be lonely I guess she's only got me and anyone I've introduced her to so when we aren't around that's when she seems to be the worst" I saidÂ
"This might not be the solution you're looking for but my brother found a puppy dumped in a bin last night maybe having something in the house would help y/n feel less lonely if you want to meet the puppy I'll give you my brothers number" he saidÂ
"Actually that sounds like a great idea" I saidÂ
Getting a puppy was definitely not something I'd planned on doing for a while as I'm not around as much as I would need to be to look after a dog and I didn't want to put that all on y/n as she's getting used to life here but maybe it would be good for her. Having a little puppy around the house to keep her company while I'm not around sounds like a great idea to me and she can meet new people taking the dog for a walk.Â
~~~~~~~~~~
After seeing the puppy my mind was made up he was so sweet and he reminded me a lot of the family dog y/n has back home which seemed like a sign that this was the decision I needed to make. It took a few days to get everything sorted but finally today I picked up the puppy and brought him home to explore a bit before y/n got home from work. So far he's done just that he hasn't stopped running around and playing with the few toys I got him as well as my shoes but we will work on stopping that another day.Â
Your POV
Today has been a long day we had a big presentation at work today and I had a few important meetings and now I'm just exhausted. When I pulled into the driveway Pedri's car was already there and that made me feel a little better as seeing him and cuddling with him sounds like it will make all my problems go away at least for tonight. As I entered the door I saw a little plastic ball on the floor which had me confused as I don't know why Pedri would have one of those or why it would just be on the floor. Then it all made sense when a tiny ball of black fluff ran towards me grabbed the ball and ran away again towards Pedri who picked up the puppy and brought it towards me.Â
As soon as he placed the puppy in my arms I was in love it looked exactly like my parents dog back home which they got when I was little and we grew up together. Holding the puppy made me feel like I had a bit of home with me and it reminded me of my childhood and all of the photos I have with my parents dog.Â
"Whose dog is this?" I asked PedriÂ
"He's ours" he saidÂ
"I have so many questions" I saidÂ
"Well one of our coaches at the club overheard me talking to Raphinha about how I think you've been missing home and feeling lonely here and said that his brother found a puppy dumped in a bin so I went and met the puppy and instantly knew he'd be a perfect fit for us and I know we both have busy lives but I thought he'd keep you company while I'm away" Pedri explainedÂ
"Who would dump this little cutie" I cooed to the puppy
"I do have one last question does he have a name yet?" He askedÂ
"I haven't properly named him yet as I didn't want to do it without you but I was thinking we could call him Nilo" he saidÂ
"I like that welcome to our crazy household Nilo" I saidÂ
Pedri took my bag off me while I took Nilo to the living room so I could sit and play with him to destress from my day. It didn't take long for Pedri to join us and we both threw the little ball across the room and watched little Nilo scamper after it. A puppy would've been the last thing I thought I wanted if you'd have asked me even just yesterday but I actually think Pedri is right Nilo is going to be great at keeping me company when no one else is here and having such a happy little thing here to greet me when I get home is definitely going to brighten my days. It feels like I've got a little bit of my life from back home here now that we have a dog and hopefully that will help make Barcelona feel like home.Â
For the rest of the night we didn't take our attention off Nilo but eventually we had to go to bed now we had agreed that Nilo wouldn't sleep in the bed with us but that went out the window within two seconds. As soon as we saw him sitting on the floor in his bed whimpering and wanting our attention Pedri got up and put him on our bed which stopped his crying instantly. Nilo was quick to make himself comfy in my arms as Pedri put his arms around me and we settled down for the night as some sort of weird family.
"Thank you for getting Nilo just having him here has made me feel more at home" I saidÂ
"There's no need to thank me I just want you to be comfortable here and honestly as soon as I saw him there was no way I was leaving without him he was just too cute" Pedri laughedÂ
"He certainly is cute you have competition now" I jokedÂ
"I don't think I'm going to win that competition" he saidÂ
"No you won't but I still love you" I saidÂ
"More than Nilo?" He askedÂ
"Of course for now at least" I jokedÂ
Pedri rolled his eyes but I know he feels the exact same way I do.Â
Imagine getting isekaiâed into otome game as a background character, watching the main character going down routes as you live your peaceful, mundane life, but youâve unknowingly been going down a route as well, a route for a hidden character that you didnât discover during your time playing the game.
That character being the reason the game has a dark content warning.
Gosh anon, that idea is so good!!!! I didn't know it would tickle all the right places in my brain, but when I started I couldn't stop lol. Love it, thank you for sending it in â„
If this had one of these super long titles that are tmi it would be:
I got Isekai'ed into an Otome Game as a Background Character and now I Have to Finish It with the Secret Yandere Love Interest!!
»»ââââââââ ⥠ââââââââ««   Â
A serene smile spread over your lips as you watched the two lovebirds in the corner of your coffee shop.
Swirling the milk into a cup, it created a little white heart surrounded by foamy coffee, its aroma drifting into your nose. Had someone told you that the little things like a cup of coffee made with love and care were enough to give you the peace of mind you always wanted in your previous life, you would have laughed at them. For you, it had always been the hustle, the making money, finding a partner, and creating a family. Make everyone proud while being successful, whether it costs you nights of sleep or days without proper meals. But looking at yourself now, it all seemed so far away now, and you let out a content sigh before setting down the cup in front of the customer at the bar.Â
"You seem happy today," your regular at the counter noted, picking up the cup and taking a moment to appreciate the aroma just like you had. A smile sneaked onto their lips, too, after they took a sip, and you couldn't help but feel your heart swell with pride and happiness when they gave you a satisfied nod.Â
"I am! I'm really getting accustomed to my new life here, it's... been a while since I've been so content."
The truth behind everything that happened to you was something you couldn't speak about lightly. Not when it turned the life you knew upside down, leaving you to start over completely. One day you were an employee of a well-known company, responsible for sales and reports and everything stressful. And the next, you were in your favorite, cozy video game, running the coffee shop the main character liked to visit with all the romance options in the game.
Isekai was the genre that came to mind when you thought about your situation. Luckily you were spared the memories of your death in the real world, the circumstances blurry as you barely remembered going home late from work, only to wake up in this very different universe. Perhaps you were just comatose, and this was a dream. Still, by now, you had managed to slip into your role as the barista of the small coffee shop, a barely mentioned background character, just fine.
Your eyes jumped back to the couple in the corner, giggling and teasing each other over a group project, and you felt an immense relief you weren't reincarnated as the main protagonist and had to go through the years of studying and trying to establish connections with the love interests again. You already did that in your old life, and it wasn't as romantic and fun as the game made it out to be. You only played it because it got your mind off things, the art was pretty, and it had the exact amount of cozy time management you needed to relax. But living as the main character in it? No, thank you!
"Jealous?" your regular teased, and you chuckled, shaking your head. They tapped theirânow emptyâcup, and you took it from them, replacing it with some water until you had the next cup of coffee ready for them.
"I just think it's cute. I never had someone so interested in me they'd take me out for coffee and share their cake with me when I was younger."
Your words tasted a little bitter on your tongue. Still, you genuinely couldn't wish for anything but the main character's happiness. It was just the feeling of being loved, desired, and wanted that you missed, even though your new life was more than satisfactory despite you feeling a little lonely sometimes.
"Well, it's never too late to start," they chuckled, taking up their fork and cutting off the tip of their strawberry shortcake, including the big chunk of strawberry on top, picking it up and holding it out towards you.Â
"Oh, I wouldn't dare--"
"I insist! As thanks for the amazing coffee every time I come here."
Nudging your lips with their fork, you let out an awkward chuckle. It was okay, right? They wouldn't sue you for eating the cake they paid for, would they? This was just a silly little game. What could go wrong with you accepting their kindness?
Opening your lips, you let them feed you the cake, taking a moment to let the sweet and fruity notes mix with the fluffy whip cream before you were sent straight to heaven. Not to toot your own horn, but your baking skills had improved so much since you started working at the shop. Who knew you had that in you?
Occupied with the moment of bliss as you let the cake flavor mix in your mouth, you hummed happily before devoting yourself back to making the coffee with a smile on your face. Unaware of your regular fixating on the fork you had just eaten from, staring at it like it was some strange artifact. Your phone dinged softly in its drawer, and you checked it briefly to see the notification pinging up, saying, "Achievement unlocked: Cake-Master - Provide the most delicious cake to your customers."
"Excuse me!" the main character called out to you, stepping up to the counter, and you directed your attention to her, ignoring the little game notification you've been receiving since starting your new life here, the love interest not far away before the two began fighting over who was going to pay the bill this time lovingly. Of course, the love interest won, but you wouldn't have expected it any other way. Seeing the blush on the main character's face after her romance option told her he'd "always take care" of her made you grin like a little fan, and you cheered them on in your head.Â
By the time you returned to your regular, their knuckles had gone white with how hard they were gripping the fork in their hand, their eyes following the couple who was about to leave. For a moment, it made you wonder if they had a crush on either of them, their sweet interaction surely uncomfortable if that was the case. But you didn't remember there being a jealousy scene in the game. You'd know, almost playing it 100% before your death. There apparently was a secret route you never got but were trying your hardest to achieve. Now you were left to wonder what it entailed.
But the second you returned, they looked up at you, expression softening and the tension disappearing, and you chalked it up to having witnessed a cringe moment that they had gotten so awkward. "Thank you for the cake, that was really nice of you! Do you want another fork?" you asked and were met with a headshake and a smile.Â
They quickly began eating their cake and complimenting your baking skills, stroking your growing ego when they rubbed their belly.Â
"I never had a cake that good!" they proclaimed, and you laughed out loud, overjoyed that you had made them so happy.Â
"Say..." they suddenly spoke up again, leaning on the counter and watching you with gentle eyes. Your heart set out for a second, tension rising as you didn't know what they were going to ask. Ever since you opened the coffee shop, the main character, love interests, and this regular had come by constantly. If you were honest, you enjoyed their visits more and more. Their presence felt like it belonged here with you, and you were a part of something bigger after all, washing away the small, lonely part of you.Â
And maybe... just maybe... this was how your happy end would play out.
"Are you this nice to every customer?"
Halting your movements, you set aside the brew head that you used on the espresso machine, despite having to clean it, thinking about your answer for a moment. It was a strange question to ask someone who worked in customer service. Still, you appreciated your regular, so you didn't want to give them a snarky answer.
"Uhm, well, I am just trying to make everyone feel welcome! But of course, it's a bit different with my regulars! After all, they come here often, like a second family. So I guess I'm a bit nicer because you really get to know and appreciate these people that stay to chat and tell stories."
"I see," they muttered. "Family, huh..."
After that, you suddenly were swamped with sudden orders, excusing yourself to fulfill them, chatting and laughing with even the people that were just passing by. Maybe you really were just nice? Perhaps this new environment had made you more relaxed and gentle than the harsh world you lived in, and it was showing? But their question was shoved into the back of your mind as you kept fulfilling orders and earning your keep.
Once the rush was over, you returned to your regular, only to find their seat empty. Strange, you thought. You could have sworn that you felt their eyes on you the whole time you were away, but luckily, they didn't walk out on their tab, leaving the money and a folded-up napkin beneath their empty cup for you to find. You quickly stored away the bills, trusting your regular with knowing what they had to pay after so many weeks of the same order.
You were about to throw away their napkin when you noticed some red marks on them, unwrapping the paper to find a note scribbled in what you had to assume was ink.Â
"You're so beautiful when you laugh."
The surprise wore off quite fast, and you smiled, thinking nothing of it but that it was a nice compliment from your regular. Still, you ended up throwing the napkin awayânot knowing if it was dirty, after allâtaking the coffee cup and plate to the sink to clean them, overseeing the red tip on the fork that was too dark to be from the strawberry.
The rest of your day was uneventful, and by the time you were closing, you were tired and ready to tug in for the night, wrapping up your business at the shop quickly before walking home. You didn't have a chance to look at your phone since you glanced at the achievement notification, so you took it out, startled when you saw a dozen new messages.Â
Achievement unlocked: Happy new life - Be content with your new life
Achievement unlocked: Shop-Pro! - Close the shop twenty times after making a profit from your work
Achievement unlocked: Tired - Hard workers deserve to relax
You blinked a few times, surprised by what you were reading and a little weirded out by some of these achievements. They gave you some extra coins in your shop till and reputation with the townspeople, so you usually didn't mind them. But to say some of their descriptions were weird was an understatement. You couldn't even remember someone getting hurt at your workplace that day.
By the time you reached your apartment, you decided to ignore the strange notifications and just let the day come to an end with a hot bath and your favorite show. But you were startled when your phone suddenly began ringing loudly, even though you had turned off the sound back at the coffee shop after the first notification. The first messages that appeared before you were more achievements, and you stopped turning the key in your door as you read them.
Achievement unlocked: Follower - Have someone special follow you home
Achievement unlocked: Welcome home! - Arrive at home, not alone
Achievement unlocked: Wherever you go, I'll be watching you -Â Æ ÎÎ ÎĆĆŽÎÂ„Ć ĆŽÎĆŠÄÄŠÆĆÇ€ „Ăở
Lifting your head, you looked around you, glancing over your shoulder and into the courtyard below. No one was out; everyone was at home eating dinner and occupied with their lives. Confused, you swiped all the notifications away before another pop-up appeared.
ALERT! You're about to enter X's route. Do you want to continue?
>Â Yes > No
Panicked at this point, you pressed "No," but nothing happened. You kept tapping it repeatedly, not understanding what was happening with your phone. But nothing changed, the notification staying in place. The sound of something breaking inside your apartment tore your focus away from your phone, startling you.Â
You must have finally managed to close it, the pop-up disappearing just as you unlocked the door to your apartment, still having held on to the key when you were surprised by the sound. Darkness and silence greeted you from inside, everything seemingly normal.
Majorly confused, you shook your head, slowly entering the hallway leading inside. "Hello?" you called out, reaching for the light switch. The light flickered on, and... there was no one. Holding your breath, no sound reached your ears, and you groaned, realizing you got freaked out about... nothing.Â
This wasn't some kind of horror game, and the story never had a murder-solving subplot. True, the ratings for it were kind of strangeâit being rated as 18+ on the websiteâbut seriously, what should happen in a cozy little city like the one the game played in? You didn't even think they had a police station here.
Pushing off your shoes as you shrugged off the weird feeling from before, you walked up the hallway to your living room, turning on the light before coming to an abrupt halt. There were broken pieces of glass underneath your living room window, but what really freaked you out came into view only when you lifted your head. You could look into the mirror of your cabinet door from your position, red marker dripping from it as if someone had hastily scribbled on it just seconds ago. You weren't sure it was a pen anymore, judging by its deep red color and the fluidity of it.
"đȘ đžđȘđŽđ© đșđ°đ¶'đ„ đ°đŻđđș đđąđ¶đšđ© đ§đ°đł đźđŠ đȘđ” đ„đłđȘđ·đŠđŽ đźđŠ đ€đłđąđ»đș"
Your phone pinged.
Achievement unlocked:Â
All right you got my creative juices running with part five of Klarion is Dan yes the first series I ever came to you with
To find him Klarion isn't the only one living in the DC dimension in like the word of protective mother Danny is he sent one of clarion's older siblings to go with him Larsal/Lassie
She was one of the clone children that was created long before Danny knew that was trying to clone him she was one of the first failures
She doesn't really have a physical form as much she is more of like a big pit of water that has like a spiritual like form like Dr Fate
She hates Vlad so much that the entire League of assassins who's also hit him even though they don't know who he is but know that Danny got from Clockwork was about her and visiting
Klarion knows about the quote as the same thing last knows about him being a villain they keep each other secrets cuz they know they make Mom disappointed
When they do have somewhat of a physical form it's a cowgirl with a horse made entirely of Lazarus Pits
Along with that Vlad making surprise visit after feeling someone's littering his name more than usual it's like a call about anytime he knows his children or Daniel is talking about him
Also Batman's freaking out after I think that one of Danny's kids is such a little hater that they made a cult just despite their father which makes the Justice League think Vlad really that bad
This is just the funny idea and I know it's not a good prompt I'm still trying to think of more sorry
Oh I love this! Thanks you!
This is going to be fun in a way I hope! Enjoy~
----------------------------------
Danny barely avoided getting questioned further about his relation to Vlad when he noticed the green post-it note and made a grab for it. "Oh would you look at that! Pop is sending us a message!"
Okay maybe he said that louder than necessary but he needed to change the topic. He didn't need more people on to torment the fruitloop. His own kids were already giving the man enough grief as it was. He didn't need distant cousins or an entire hero society of another dimension coming after the fruitloop too. Not that he would mind that much but some mercy towards the redeemed man would probably be appropriated.
Either way Danny focused his attention on the note only half heartedly listening as Klarion continued his family tree explanation to his little hero friends. He blinked at the note several times before laughing happily. "Would you look at that! Lassie is going to come by! Your Granpa Clock is giving us a heads up, so I can prepare a fresh batch of ectoplasm for her to stay healthy!"
Whatever Klarion was explaining right now was abandoned as he sat up straight. "Lassie is coming too?"
"Well of course she is." Danny hummed happily, thankful for the chance of seeing both his kids that liked to life in the same dimension.
"Lassie?" Red Robin piped up questioning. Oh looks like this is one of Klarions siblings they hadn't gotten to yet regarding explanations.
"Yes my fourth oldest but unofficial second oldest." Danny nodded with a proud mother smile on his face. "She lives in this dimension too to keep an eye on Klarion so he would stay safe and dosen't over do it."
Klarion on the other hand groaned. "I don't need Lassie to baby sit me!"
"Klarion, sweety you were new to the whole living alone in another dimension thing. You spent the longest in FarFrozen and the Ghost Zone with me because of your destabilisation." Danny reprimanded him softly and the teen heroes snickered behind Klarions back to which the witch boy turned to glare at them with a greenish blush across his cheeks.
"So what does that sister of yours look like?" Impulse asked to change the topic and because he took a bit of pity on Klarion for the way his Mom was apparently embarrassing the witch boy. His question resulted in Klarion flipping though the photo album before stopping at an image of Klarion next to a pit of green something. Impulse arched an eyebrow and was about to comment when he got pushed roughly to the side by Red Robin.
"THAT'S A LAZARUS PIT!"
The way Batman's chair clattered to the ground as the man stood up looked every bit like he was going to rush over to the teens spoke for the shock that Red Robin shout had caused. The Ghost King and Klarion on the other hand looked rather calm as they barely reacted to the shout and Danny even motioned to Batman to sit back down again, as the chair that fell rightened itself again.
"Calm down. Lassie is a good child. She wouldn't hurt a fly." Danny told them smiling, not realising that both Batman and Red Robin were giving him increadulous looks behind their mask.
"A.... good child?" Batman repeated his slowly his voice even more tinged with his usual gruff gravel in a way that both Superman and Wonder Woman side eyed him worried while Flash snacked on a pack of melon flavoured ships he snacked from a table.
"She doesn't have a physical body, that is why she is relying on the pits of natural ectoplasm your dimension has. There was a little problem with her physical form and we just couldn't restore it and she refuses to get a unoccupied clone body like Klarion has." Danny explained further not minding the stares he or Klarion were getting.
"Pits of natural ectoplasm?" Batman reiterated, his tone clearly questioning, to which Danny only blinked a couple of times surprised. "I thought your dimension knew what they were? Sure the way you guys use them is strange and Lassie did sound a bit concerned when she told me about it but I didn't think you guys weren't aware what they were."
"No that is not...." Red Robin started but then but himself of as he turned around hurriedly in a defensive position as he noticed someone coming in through the window. He wasn't the only one. All the heroes reacted as one at the new presence, however what they didn't expect was a member of the League of Assassins blinking up at them stunned after climbing in through the window lifting their hands palm up in a gesture of peace.
"Woah hey there calm down! Klarion what the fuck? Why are there so many heroes in your Apartment?" The LoA member spoke up and all eyes turned to Klarion who instead only deadpanned. "I told you Mom was visiting to meet my 'friends'"
"Lassie, what did I tell you about possessing bodies?" The Ghost King piped up in a disapproving tone and they heard the distinctive tone of someone knocking their head against the table, probably Constantine.
"Sorry Mom but there are not Pits of ectoplasm near baby brother I could use to form a body." The LoA member, apparently possessed by Klarion's elder sister replied sheepishly. To say Red Robin was weirded out was an understatement. Usually if he encountered LoA members they were aggressive and most likely there to take him or one of his siblings out.
"That's an League of Assasin member...." He muttered under his breath to which said member laughed. "This guy was the closest to me to use for the moment. Don't worry I will release him later and he won't even remember a thing. I got my little sheep's well trained."
"Little sheep's?" Wonder Girl repeated a hand on her hip as she stared sceptically, to which Klarion face palmed and muttered a low "Sis shut up...."
"No Lassie, don't shut up." Danny intone from the kitchen table he was still sitting at with the other adults, his head was now resting on his hand as he stared at his two kids who visibly flinched.
The LoA member, possessed by Klarions sister, scratched the back of is head nervously as they faced the Ghost King. "Ah Mom, uhm hehe you know funny story..."
The heroes were pretty sure that the room had gotten several degrees colder and they weren't sure if that was because of the mood of a parent about to interrogate their child or because of the Ghost Kings power. (At a later time Constantine swore it were the Ghost Kings powers.) There was a awkward moment of silence the heroes weren't sure if they should be present for that or not especially when Danny stood up and walked over to the teens.
On reflex Wonder Girl, Superboy, Impulse and Red Robin made room for Danny to walk past them as they watched on torn between curiosity and pity, because clearly Klarion and his sister Lassie must have done something they weren't supposed to do. And honestly they were more curious what they did, after all the Ghost King hadn't been that faced when it got revealed that Klarion was more of a Villain than a Hero to them.
"Lassie, what did you do?" The teen heroes couldn't see Danny's face but from the tone they had a feeling that Danny was arching an eyebrow at his children.
Lassie laughed awkwardly once more. "So... you know how grandma Pandora kind of thought us about how our own emotion can influence those around us exposed to our ectoplasm over a long period of time?"
"Lassie..."
"I might have raised something akin to a cult on accident and passed on my personal grudge and hate towards the fruitloop along to them and they might now have the subconscious drill of attack on sight if Vlad ever makes an appearance in this dimension...." The LoA member slowly spoke up which had several of the adult heroes blinking in disbelief.
Batman especially was in shock of hearing about this since had the most interaction with this 'cult' as apparently one of the Ghost Kings children liked to call the League of Assassins. The bat suit wearing hero was about to interject and ask more but stopped when the Ghost King let out a suffering sigh like the most tired parent in existence. "And you didn't think about telling me this sooner because?"
"We don't like to disappoint you Mom." The two children of the Ghost King replied simultaneously like one united front. Danny in response gave his kids a light chuckle. But before Danny could go on any further Red Robin decided it was probably a good time to interject and remind the Ghost King of their presence.
"I got a question if you don't mind..." He lifted his hand like he was in school as he pulled the attention towards him. His curiosity won over his caution of the situation. "Klarion if the Lazarus Pits are actually 'ectoplasm' as you mentioned before, and are largely influenced by your sisters emotion. What happens to guy that bath regularly in them or someone that got thrown in there and game back out rage filled?"
"Red Robin!" Batman call out reprimanding instantly knowing where Red Robins line of question was going.
The possessed LoA member on the other hand blinked at them before scratching their head sheepishly. "I think I know who your talking about. I am still sorry about that second guy. When he got dunked into my ectoplasm, I kinda just came back from a visit home and had a bad fight with Vlad and was especially rage filled towards him."
"So does that mean...?" Red Robin inquired further ignoring Batman's silent glare towards him for even bringing these questions up and just as Lassie was about to answer Danny interjected.
"Lassie, go fix your cult." Another green note at materialised out of nowhere and had fluttered in the air before him and caused the Ghost King to face palm the moment he read it's context.
"Mom?" Both Klarion and Lassie asked with a shared worried glance.
"Vlad has come into the dimension for some reasons and is currently getting chased down by your cult."
There was a stunned silence after which Klarion and Lassie, in the body of the LoA member, broke out laughing hysterically which only caused Danny to lightly glare at his children. Meanwhile the teen heroes weren't sure if they should feel sorry for the old man called Vlad but considering all the red flags they had picked up from what Klarion told them, they felt a little like the man deserved that.
The adults on the other hand felt slightly torn, well mostly Batman. It was clear that this Vlad was a bigger threat than both Klarion and the Ghost King were making him out to be, considering the entire existence of the Lazarus Pits hated that man. But on the other hand as heroes they probably should feel obligated to help the man especially if, according to the Ghost Kings words, he was currently gotten chased in their dimension by the League of Assassins.
Danny on the other hand never felt more like a tired mother than he did right now. Sure he knew about his unofficial second oldest hatred towards Vlad but this certainly was a new level of hate. Especially since she apparently 'accidentally' (he doesn't by that at all) raised an entire cult that subconsciously hated him too.
Out of the Bag (Jamil, Ace, and Idia x Yuu)
"Oh can I help you? You seem to be lost." You attempt to cheerfully ask the vaguely familiar looking person in front of you. As if he is deliberately trying to rub salt in your wounds, Crowley ignored your request to leave campus for NRC parents day and is instead making you and Grim run errands. The person in front of you, blissfully ignorant to your inner turmoil perks up at your attention.
"Forgive me for asking, but are you the magicless prefect?" You and Grim exchange a confused glance. "You've got to be right?" They're practically glowing with how happy they are to see you. " Oh I'm sorry, I've just heard so much about you!" Wait, what?
notes: (so uhhhh Jamil and Ace were supposed to be a part of the original post but I cut them out because I had to go to bed but forgot to remove the tags, sorry </3) they/them pronouns used for Yuu, sibling snark (Jamil and Ace) vs light angst (the Shroud parents), light reference to certain events in Ch. 6, but nothing specific. If you liked this please check out the first version on my masterlist.
Jamil
"Oh yeah, you're Najma, right?" The younger girl looks pleasantly surprised you have remembered her from your visit to the Scalding Sands.
"Well that makes this a lot easier, do you know where Jamil is?" You internally cheer at how polite she is, some of the other families you have been dealing with today have really been testing your patience. "I've been looking everywhere for him, but couldn't seem to find a good opportunity to sneak up on him." Or maybe not, that doesn't sound like she hasn't seen him at all, why is she asking you?
"According to my schedule he's probably in the gym for the club activities program." You confirm with your clipboard and Najma sighs.
"Lame, he's gonna be all sweaty and gross." She checks her phone as you sneak a glance at Grim trying to figure out how much longer you have before you need to find something shiny to distract him. "Actually maybe I can just ask you." You turn your attention back to Najma who seems to be tapping her cheek with her phone and sizing you up. "Is there anywhere to get snacks on campus?"
"Now you're talkin!" Cheers Grim, bringing a really bright smile to Najma's face and a tentative one to yours. "Mr. S's Mystery Shop's got all the tuna you can ask for!"
"And other things to." You helpfully add and Najma happily begins to follow.
"So what do you like to do?" she asks almost ten seconds into your walk. "Like what fun stuff is there to do around campus?"
"Shouldn't you be asking your brother?" You ask, thankful Grim is too caught up in his tuna thoughts to make any snarky comments.
"About you?" Najma laughs and you feel a bit silly. "Nah he hates being honest about things like that."
"Well I don't have much free time..." but you manage to list off some things that you like as Najma nods, still tapping her phone on her chin for some reason.
"What about food?" she stops fiddling with her phone and just goes straight to texting on it as the Mystery Shop comes into view. "I know Jamil's food looks boring but it tastes super good."
"It sure does." Grim says, well more like whines. "He only ever gives it to Yuu and gets mad when I eat it though."
"That's because he asked for my opinion, not yours." It's a petty thing to say, but hey Jamil's a good cook. Najma seems to agree, giggling before you both jump ten feet backwards as a strangely shaped blur nearly knocks you over.
"NAJMA!" Jamil is indeed, sweaty and gross looking, his basketball jersey is practically drenched through, almost like he ran the entire way to here from the gymnasium. He's doubled over, hands on his knees as you fumble around looking for the water bottle Crewel made you bring with you earlier which he gratefully takes.
"Oh hey what are you doing here Jamil?" You don't know Najma super well, but she almost sounds disappointed to see her brother. "Prefect said you were at the gym."
"Don't start." Jamil passes you back the empty water bottle, hesitating just a bit before he lets you take it. "She didn't do anything weird, right? Hasn't said anything strange?" You blink in confusion.
"No? She's just been asking a bunch of questions about stuff. Jamil relaxes, letting you take the bottle with a genuine smile-
And gets cut off by a shutter sound effect making you both turn towards Najma, who doesn't bother looking up from her phone camera.
"Whoops thought I turned that off."
Ace
"Well, well, well, just what should I do with you?" The ginger stranger is stroking his chin with an all too familiar look that puts you on edge, not because you think he is going to try anything illegal (yet) but because you can practically see the collar on this guy already. There really is no beating around the bush about who this guy is, even if you really wished you had some plausible deniability.  "I could tell you about that time I told him if he kissed a frog it would turn into royalty and he actually did it-" Too much information he technically just did. "Or what about that time he only wanted to eat carrots so I freaked him out by saying he was turning into one because his hair was orange-" So is yours big brother Trappola! And where the hell is Grim he is supposed to be suffering through this with you. "Nah those are too boring- oh I got it!" Before you can break out in a dash for the mirror chamber, big brother Trappola claps an unintentionally (you hope) firm hand on your shoulder. "Listen to this- wait I didn't introduce myself I-"
"Ace's brother." He seems genuinely taken aback. "He talks about you all the time."Â
"Oh does he?" Maybe you shouldn't have mentioned that, little Trappola's ego was insufferable already, older Trappola's has got to be worse right. It's so obvious you can't even bring yourself to put the question mark on it.
"Funny you mention that, from my end it seems like all he ever talks about is Yuu." He makes a big show of looking you over. "Always talking about what a pain it is to look after you, but he never does stop." He maneuvers himself to look directly into your eyes. âYou must be pretty special then, right?â
âDidnât you used to go here?â You ask, crossing your arms and fixing your best ânot today Trappolaâ look onto your face.
âSure did! Also got put into Heartslabyul, must run in the family, weâre all a bit mad.â Older Trappola breaks eye contact for just a second, something dancing on the tip of his tongue you have no desire to entertain at all. You just want to ditch this overgrown root veg on his brother and then take a nap.
âSo then, just to be clear, you donât need me to show you around.â You fumble around your clipboard looking for a map anyway.
âOh no I absolutely need you to do that.â You like it when Ace plays dumb better, at least itâs cute. âWould be a really bad thing if you just left me all alone and I went somewhere I wasnât supposed to.â He stands up straight, looking off into the distance behind you with a dramatic sigh. âSomewhere like Ramshackle Dorm maybe? I hear thatâs one of Aceâs-â
 A surprisingly strong pair of arms wraps you into an embrace from behind.
âBack off.â snaps Ace, a lot harsher than either of you have heard before âThis oneâs mine.â
Idia
"Dear! Dear! Come look it's the prefect!" A very excited very pink woman in a sundress and comically oversized sunglasses beckons to a very tall, very out place looking man who is... also wearing comically oversized sunglasses.
"The who?" he sheepishly walks over to his wife and gives you a little wave, clearly out of place but trying his best.
"The prefect! Ortho and Idia's friend." The realization seems to hit both you and Mr. Shroud at the same time, causing you both to retreat just a bit. You because you feel desperately dumb for not noticing the flaming hair and him because-
Well you hope it's because of the whole house thing but who knows.
"Oh sorry. Um we're Mr. and Mrs. Shroud but you probably already guessed that it's really nice to meet you." You awkwardly shake hands while Grim hides behind your legs.
"Do you have any plans for today?" Asks Mrs. Shroud. "I'd hate to interrupt things too much."
"Oh no that's not really an issue for me." You look down at Grim for half a second before adding. "For us."
"I'm sorry to hear that." whispers Mr. Shroud, gently taking his wife's hand and you stand around in silence for a little bit, trying to figure out how to walk the conversation from the ledge it's found itself on.
"Um if there isn't anything you need help with-"
"Idia speaks really highly of you." Mrs. Shroud says gently, and you have to keep yourself from fainting from shock. Idia speaking highly of- no forget that. Idia talks to his parents? And you were the conversation topic? If she had said it was Ortho that would make sense but Idia? "I know he can be a bit blunt, but he treasures your friendship. And as his mother, I am very grateful he has someone as kind as you in his life."
"We both are." whispers Mr. Shroud. "If you need help while you are here please don't hesitate to ask us." And with that they leave you and Grim
Summary: When a lightning strike puts Evan's life in danger, he has to fight to get back to his family. His wife and boys need him to get better.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Go on then, how mad did you make my sister tonight?"
The grin that broke out on Evan's face made his eyes squint at the corners and the way he curved his lips up in a lopsided look made him look sheepish and guilty. Exactly how Eddie knew he would be feeling right now. They had known each other for closer to two decades now, since they were teenagers.
"Let's just say I might be on the sofa tonight." Evan fixed his helmet on his head and looked up at the truck they were about to climb onto.
He would be in trouble when he got home. His parents had come to town and he was at work.
Evan had run off to work, leaving (Y/n), Maddie and all the kids to deal with their parents and that was no easy task. Without him there, it was up to Maddie to keep the peace and she wasn't so good at that nowadays.
Maddie never used to understand how much their parents grated on Evan when he became a dad. She didn't see the way they would pick at every little thing Evan did and try to burst in and overtake or comment on what he and (Y/n) were doing. It didn't help that they had been very young when they had Theo. But now Maddie and Chimney had Jee, she realised how interferring their parents could get and how hard it could be to keep composed around them.
And here Evan was, hiding out with his work family while his sister, wife and boys all put up with his parents. The only relief was that at the end of the night when Evan went home, his parents would be staying with Maddie while they were in town. There was nowhere in Evan's house for them to stay with three boys in the house and a baby on the way; every room was taken.
A low whistle passed Eddie's lips as he secured his own helmet and waited for Evan to start the climb up the truck. "Very unlucky," He commented quietly, following Evan up onto the roof of the truck so they could get the ladder ready.
"It's not my fault I'm on shift, I didn't know my parents were coming down,"
In Evan's defence, he truly didn't know his parents were coming down until Maddie called and said they were almost in town and he couldn't swap or change his shifts around.
Both Evan's parents and (Y/n) and Eddie's parents had been less than thrilled when at sixteen, the pair of them announced (Y/n) was pregnant. (Y/n) and Eddie had moved from Texas with their parents and sisters when their dad got transferred for a year. Evan had been Eddie's friend first before he fell for (Y/n).
Having a baby changed everything. (Y/n) stayed with Evan when the rest of the family moved back to Texas after her dad's placement was over and that was how she wanted it. Away from an overbearing mother, a distant father and sisters who weren't always kind to her. Eddie was the only one she really missed, even when he came down every other month to visit her and Evan.
So when Eddie finally got out of the army and needed a change, he took the offer of moving to LA to be closer to his little sister and work with his brother in law.
"Alright, go get 'em, cowboy."
A jolt ran down Evan's spine when the safety clip was hooked onto the belt around his torso, pulling him forward a foot or two. His eyes landed on the red cable that reached down to the winch at the bottom of the ladder he was on.
"Will do," Evan gave Eddie a nudge, squinting through the downpour before he turned to face the end of the ladder that needed to be moved a few inches closer.
The ladder was close but not quite close enough for him to make a safe jump or climb over onto the balcony. They had to be at least another five inches closer, Evan wasn't doing any theatrics today like jumping onto a balcony, it would be his luck to go through the floor if he tried.
"Here we go," Evan muttered to himself as he climbed up the ladder. He could feel the rain trickling down the back of his neck and it made him shiver. The rain was so heavy that he couldn't see the end of the ladder and the downpour made his helmet rattle against his ears and droplets dribbled down his eyes and onto his nose.
His lips were drenched, his lashes were fighting off the rain and every inch of his skin was shaking from the low temperature.
"Fucking weather," He finally reached the end of the ladder and took a quick glance around.
There were three families still stuck inside the burning building who needed evacuating and the 221 team were trying to get inside through the lobby and clear the stairwell. Evan needed to go into the apartment through the balcony and help escort the last few people out to safety.
Eddie's voice came through the radio but Evan couldn't work out what he said, there was too much static and the thunder was starting to roll in.
"What?" He pressed his ear to the radio and gave it a whack, curling his upper lip as he waited again for a clearer instruction.
Evan jolted on the ladder, bending his knees and hunkering down when a horrid clap thundered across the sky. He tilted his head back enough for the rain to pour over his eyes and drip down the side of his face, but all he could see were thousands of white droplets cascading down from the heavens. The sky was a misty blue mixed with swirls of black like a canvas with only a few swirls of clouds to be seen through the rain.
Looking up from this angle made the rain seem like it was being sucked up from the ground rather than falling down from the clouds.
"What the Hell is that?" Evan pursed his lips, morphing his smile into a frown as he watched the sky change colours before his eyes and swirl like a tornado was heading their way.
They all heard it too.
The rippling noise that made them feel like they were deep underwater. The sky looked unforgiving, full of darkness without a single glimmer of light to guide them tonight. It made the building look like a beacon in the sheet of blackness, shining a vibrant burgendy with melted orange flames flickering at the sides. Leaking brown ash clouds up into the night sky.
"Guys I don't thi-"
Lightning. It broke through the clouds, a true act of God right before their eyes and Evan saw a pure cast of light break free from the sky that was so bright and pure it was blinding.
How was that possible?
How could the lightning have struck him like that? No one could have planned something like this in a million years. The strike was so precise it was almost legendary.
Eddie had never seen anything so pure yet so horrifying.
Sparks flew out from the end of the ladder like a firework display and rocketed off of Evan's body as he toppled backwards. His broad shoulders smashed into the very edge of the ladder before his weight shifted and he looked like an acrobat flying through the air. His body did a backwards flip, sending his feet over his head while his upper body tumbled down into the open air.
He plummeted down a few feet in mid air before the red cable attached to his waist saved him from a deathly drop down to the concrete.
The blood-red cable hung like a vein in the sky, straining against the edge of the ladder to hold up Evan's weight and keep him suspended in the air.
The buckle clip was holding steady to the harness around his torso which kept him suspended four stories in the air. His legs and arms dangled down, limp and lifeless and his head snapped so far back it was almost touching his broad shoulder blades.
With his head snapped back and the sudden flip in the air, the helmet perched on his head tumbled through the rain and landed with a sickening crack on the road beneath. Splitting the hardened plastic right down the middle.
"Buck!"
"Hen get a gurney, Chimney release the winch." Bobby spoke into the radio just in case his voice couldn't travel through the storm to his team while he stood directly beneath Evan.
Eddie was already halfway up the ladder when they looked ahead into the sky and he fell down, hanging his upper body over the side of the ladder to grab the rope. He couldn't pull him up. Not if he had all the team up there with him. The rope was caught on the ladder and Evan's weight was reaching towards the floor, dragging him back up wasn't an option.
A guttural scream left Eddie's lips as he waved one hand at Chimney to get him to go faster. He threaded the rope between his gloved fingers, easing down his brother in law as if he were a package being delivered from the Gods down to Earth.
"Come on Buck- agh, stay with me."
Bobby stretched his arms high up into the sky like he was giving an offering to God and he watched Chimney rush to his side when Evan was lowered enough to reach. Hen hurried out of an anbulance she had backed as close as she could to the scene and rushed a gurney out towards them.
When Eddie was down with them, they unclipped Evan and eased him down onto the gurney. Being quick to wrench open his jacket and shirt while Eddie's trembling fingers pressed against Evan's neck to try and feel for a pulse.
"Buck⊠oh God," His skin was cold and lifeless. There was no colour except a pale chalk grey tinge to his skin and there was no heat bubbling to the surface. Eddie waited with his hand against Evan's neck before he moved down to press his palm against Evan's sternum. "I can't find a pulse and he's not breathing!"
"Get the pack."
Hen placed the medic pack down beside Evan's left thigh and opened it up but she stopped when Chimney shook his head and stopped her from opening the defibrilator.
"He's been electrocuted and he's doused in water, a shock will fry his heart, we can't."
Evan had been drenched in ran before he got on the ladder and now his shirt was open, the heavens had poured down on him. He had been given a large shock which had stopped his heart, another one was going to do permanent damage to his heart and if he was wet, it was only going to secure his death.
"Get him in the fucking ambulance and I'll do compressions. Come on, let's go!" Eddie's voice rang out through the rain and the thunder that was bubbling through the sky like it was following them. He would do compressions in the ambulance and keep Evan's heart going but they had to move now. Any longer and CPR wasn't going to do Evan any good.
"Mayday, mayday. This is Captain Nash, we have a firefighter down. Repeat, firefighter down, struck by lightning. I need a team on standby at the nearest hospital."
Hen and Eddie shoved the stretcher into the back of the ambulance and climbed in. Straight away, Eddie knelt up with one knee on the edge of the stretcher to steady himself before he interlocked his fingers and began compressions on Evan's heart.
"Come on Buck, come back. You can't do this to us⊠think of (Y/n)."
Oh God, what was Eddie going to say to (Y/n)? How was he going to explain this to his youngest sister, the one he held closest to his heart? He couldn't tell her that Evan had died on the job. Evan had to pull through this, there was no way in Hell that Eddie was having that kind of conversation with (Y/n). She had been with Evan since she was sixteen. They had three kids and another on the way; she couldn't lose Evan now.
Chimney and Bobby climbed in the front and started the journey down to the hospital.
"Call Athena."
"What?" Bobby pressed his elbow against the window and smothered his mouth with his fist to stop himself from either screaming, crying or combusting all at once. Why would he call her now? They weren't even at the hospital yet. He wasn't calling anyone until they got Evan inside the hospital and seen by a team of doctors.
"You've just called in a mayday. The chief will be going down to Buck's house to tell (Y/n) what's happened. She's seven months pregnant, do you really want a stranger having that conversation with her? Get Athena down there when they go."
None of the team would be able to get down to Evan's house to talk to (Y/n), they had to stay with him, update the hospital and then talk to the chief to explain the situation. And Chimney could see that Eddie wasn't leaving Evan anytime soon and this was not a conversation he could have over the phone with his sister.
It was custom that the chief of any fire house would go down to talk to family when someone from the station had passed away or was gravely ill. (Y/n) had three kids at home and another on the way, a stranger coming to her door to tell her that her husband had been injured on duty was going to push her over the edge. They needed someone familiar, someone she thought of as family, to be there to give her the news.
Maddie and her parents were at (Y/n)'s house with her at the moment but that didn't change the fact that (Y/n) needed someone she knew to talk her through this.
Evan had to be okay. He had a family at home waiting for him.
***
(Y/n) smiled as she passed by the living room and caught a glimpse of her family huddled up in there. Evan's parents were knelt down on the floor with Jee and Alfie, helping them to build towers out of Lego which they would eventually knock down.
Maddie was sat in the armchair watching with a grin and Theo was slouched on the sofa, intently focused on a movie on tv.
The only one missing was Tommy but the one year old was already in bed, their busy day had knocked him clean out and Jee wouldn't be far behind.
Dinner hadn't gone as horribly as (Y/n) imagined after Evan left for work at lunchtime. His parents didn't overcomplicate things or push their way in and try to take over. His mother didn't make one comment about the food or the house and his father didn't try to over correct the boys and put them in line as he used to say.
They had been more than civil and (Y/n) wasn't sure whether it was because Maddie and Jee were here, or because they wanted to try and keep the peace.
They had never been very involved with any of the boys until covid hit and the world seemed to change. They tried to video call and take an interest in Evan in a way they never did when he was growing up. Now they were making more and more trips down to see all of them and Evan was trying to make things work too. He had spent too long resenting his parents and he didn't want that atmosphere around his kids.
As she passed behind the sofa, (Y/n) leaned down and ruffled Theo's hair, giving him a peck on the head which caused the teen to tilt his head back and grin up at her before she headed into the hallway towards the front door.
Evan must have left his keys again if he was knocking on the door to be let in. This would be the third time this month he had forgot his keys. (Y/n) was going to have to hang them on a chain around his neck at this rate.
"Did you honestly- oh," (Y/n) cut herself off and tightened her hand around the door when she opened it with a wide grin that faded immediately when she realised it wasn't her husband on the other side.
"Mrs Buckley?"
A shiver rattled down (Y/n)'s spine and fizzled through her blood that seemed to stop coursing round her body. Her fingertips went numb, her arms froze clinging to the door and a horrible stone set deep in the pit of her stomach causing the baby to wriggle. She tried to take in a deep breath but it didn't work, she only ended up taking little, shallow wisps of air as her chest rattled like an empty bird cage while her heart felt like it was going to stop completely.
Red and blue lights flashed on the police car parked in front of the drive. No sirens.
Athena was stood on her doorstep, her usual sunglasses no where to be seen, her smile long since gone and replaced with a solemn, if apprehensive look that (Y/n) had never seen before. She had her hands clasped in front of her waist and her lips were pressed into a very thin line.
Next to her was an elderly man (Y/n) had never come across before. He had his cap tucked beneath his arm and his fingers laced together in front of him. His expression was also an apprehensive, uncertain one but his eyes were like melting chocolate that was turning sour.
It was the logo on his blazer that made (Y/n) shake her head.
The chief of the fire station was on her doorstep, along with a seargent.
"Who is it?" Her voice quivered as tears blurred her vision and caused her lower lip to wobble.
They could only be here for Evan or Eddie. (Y/n) was the emergency contact for both of them since their parents were back in Texas. She was next of kin for Eddie, being his closest family member in LA and she was married to Evan which made her his emergency contact instead of Maddie. He hadn't had his parents as an emergency contact since college.
"Evan's been involved in an accident," Athena was using his given name, not his nickname. She had never done that even in an emergency or a serious situation. Something had to have gone gravely wrong for her to be here, calling him that, along with the chief of the department.
(Y/n) didn't know who she was expecting to be told was in the accident but hearing that it was her husband set off a storm raging inside of her. It wouldn't have been better to hear Eddie's name, in fact, it was almost anticipated to hear Evan's name. He was the one who seemed to be in the line of fire more than the rest of them.
Evan was the one who had a fire truck fall on his leg four years ago when Alfie was only three. He was the one caught up in a tsunami when he wasn't even on shift. Evan was always the one who came home injured or who took more trips to the emergency room than everyone else.
Why was it always Evan and no one else who got hurt?
"No," (Y/n) shook her head and leaned her chest and stomach against the door until the rough edge started to press achingly into her skin and cause a rippling pain to surge through her. "Is⊠Athena, is h-he," She couldn't say it.
This was the one job that Evan seemed to find his soul in. It was his calling, it was woven into his DNA, it was part of who he was and he could never think of doing anything else. And (Y/n) knew that he always took care of himself and that his team looked after him while he was with them. They kept him safe so he could come home to her. She knew her husband and brother were safe in their team, despite the dangerous job they did.
She had never had to think about a day where they never came home to her. (Y/n) never imagined she would get a call like this and she didn't want this to happen to her.
What was she going to do if they told her Evan had died?
How was she going to live without him? She couldn't look after four kids on her own. One of them wasn't even born yet, Evan couldn't die without meeting his newest edition.
"His heart stopped on route to the hospital, as far as we know, they're still working on him."
"I'm afraid you need to be at the hospital, Mrs Buckley," He looked like he was about to say something else, but whatever crossed his mind disappeared almost immediately.
The world felt like it was crumbling around (Y/n). The floor beneath her feet didn't feel so sturdy and safe anymore. The air in her lungs felt like it was being restricted and taken away. Her stomach churned in knots as bile rose in her throat and she was sure she was going to throw up. Her head filled with air, becoming a balloon that was overfull and ready to explode.
(Y/n) didn't feel her knees give way on her or the harsh landing they got when she hit the floor. She couldn't feel the hands grappling at her arms and Athena's touch felt distant and cold against her burning skin when the older woman grabbed her chin and tilted her head up.
She let her forehead fall against the door that was now digging uncomfortably into her protruding stomach and her nails dug into the wood until she started to feel splinters pressing into her skin.
Evan's heart stopped.
What kind of accident had he been in to cause that? What were they doing to him down at the hospital to make sure he didn't leave (Y/n) for good? Would it be too late by the time she got there? Was her husband going to die- again- before she even got to hold his hand or say goodbye?
Was he really going to leave her and their kids forever?
"(Y/n)? (Y/n), honey deep breaths," Athena scraped (Y/n)'s hands away from the door and held them up to her chest, trying to encourage her to copy her breathing and breathe enough so she didn't pass out. "Stay with me-"
Silent tears streamed down (Y/n)'s face but her eyes were void of any emotion and her face turned horrifyingly placid and blank. There was no hatred, pain or anger in her eyes. Her lips weren't in a frown or screaming in agony. Her lips were in a thin line, her eyes were half-lidded and her head was tilted against the door like she was in a trance.
"Oh my God, what's happened?!"
She didn't feel Maddie kneel down beside her or her hand on her back as Maddie's other hand grabbed her arm. (Y/n) didn't even hear Athena trying to explain the situation to Maddie; her ears were full of static that was sending her head into a frenzy.
"No, oh no, mum!" Maddie pulled (Y/n) off the door and into her chest while she turned her head, begging for her mother to come through.
She needed her mum to watch all four kids so she and (Y/n) could go down to the hospital. They needed to be with Evan and the kids couldn't know what had happened until they were certain what was going on with Evan. They had to leave now before his state deteriorated.
Before Maddie had explained the situation to her mother, (Y/n) suddenly tore out of her arms.
Her hands pressed to the floor, then to Athena's shoulder as she scrambled up on her numb, jelly legs and pushed past the chief. Her body wobbled as she moved down the first two steps and she could see the world tilting at an angle, sending her stumbling to the right until Athena was suddenly at her side. Athena's arms bound around her waist and gripped her arm, hushing her as she steadied her on her feet while a quiet, unsettling sound passed (Y/n)'s lips.
Maddie grabbed her bag and (Y/n)'s and slung them over her shoulder as she tossed hurried exchanges of her shoulder with her mum. She ran out the door and reached for (Y/n)'s other side to stop her from collapsing in the driveway.
"I- I need to see him. I need him."
Suddenly it didn't matter anymore that he had gone on shift and left her alone to defend herself against his parents. It didn't matter that Theo and Alfie were going to panic that she had left them without even saying a word. It didn't matter that they were going to be upset about being left with their grandparents, probably all night long.
All that mattered was (Y/n) getting to her husband before something else happened to him.
She prayed she wasn't going to be too late.
***
"I swear if you tell me to calm down," (Y/n) wrenched her arm away from her brother and turned her back to him.
Her arms cocooned to her chest, resting over her stomach while she brought a hand to her mouth and bit down on her nails that had been all but chewed down during the night. Even the skin around her thumbs was starting to swell and become sore from anxious biting.
"Stop fighting me and sit down before you hurt yourself."
She wanted to shrug off Eddie's touch but she didn't have it in herself to fight him anymore. She let his hands curl around her shoulders and loosened up when he guided her towards the chairs. Her body slumped down into a seat and her head fell down into her hands as Eddie crashed down into the chair next to her like a tidal wave.
"When Maddie gets here I'm taking you home."
"No you're not."
"(Y/n), please don't do this now." Eddie tried in vain to reach across and take her hand but she wouldn't let him. Her hands stayed rubbing over her face until it felt like her skin was going to peel off like a face mask. Her nails scratched into her scalp and her fingers moved to knot through her hair and brush the loose strands out of her face.
"I'm not leaving him Eddie, I can't." How could she go home and leave Evan here? How could she walk away, even for an hour, and know her husband was laid up in a coma? The first twenty four hours were crucial and (Y/n) had to stay here and wait them out because if something changed or happened and she wasn't here, she would never forgive herself.
"You think he's gonna know if you go home and rest for just an hour? That's all I'm asking, an hour to get something to eat and take a break."
"It's not about him knowing if I've gone, it's about waiting in case he gets worse Eddie-"
"And what about you? Buck would lose his shit if he saw you like this and you know it. And the boys? They won't last much longer with his parents, you need to talk to them and explain what's going on. They need to see you."
(Y/n) had spent the night sitting in the chair at Evan's bedside.
Eddie had stayed in the corner of the room while Bobby, Hen and Athena filtered in and out every now and then to check on them. Maddie stayed for most of the night before going home to see the kids and talk to Chimney. No one knew what to do next or how things were going to play out.
(Y/n) didn't want to leave. She knew she needed to go home to the boys, all three of them needed one parent there to explain things and calm them down and make sure they were alright. But it was so hard to think about going home and having the boys all have meltdowns and cry in confusion when (Y/n) knew she would be leaving her heart at the hospital with Evan.
She wanted to spend every second sat at Evan's bedside and go home to the boys when he woke up and she knew he was okay.
"What do I tell them?"
A tidal wave blocked up behind (Y/n)'s eyes and a lump formed in her throat at the thought of going home.
Home wasn't the same when Evan wasn't there but now he would be gone for a different reason and they didn't know if he was ever coming back.
Theo was the only one who would understand. He was fourteen, he was the one (Y/n) would be able to talk to and explain the situation fully and have him understand. But it was going to rock his world and panic him in a way he had never felt before. Alfie was seven, he would understand his dad had been in an accident but they couldn't explain life support or a coma to him. And Tommy was one, he wasn't going to understand anything except his parents weren't with him right now.
"We'll figure that out when we go home," Reaching across, Eddie curved his arm around (Y/n)'s shoulders and reeled her into his chest. His lips pressed to the top of her head and he sighed into her hair, trying not to burst into tears again.
They both had to go home to their kids. Their Abuela had taken Chris over to (Y/n)'s house where Chimney and Evan's parents had watched over the kids for the night until Maddie headed back to see them. Things had to be explained to all the boys and child care needed to be sorted before they came back for another long haul of sitting silently in Evan's room.
Waiting. Waiting. Waiting.
"Mum!"
(Y/n)'s head bolted up from Eddie's chest and she leaned around him, fright filling her eyes when her eldest son's voice hit her ears. She could feel Eddie's hand tightening on her shoulder and he kissed the back of her head before he turned to see his nephew.
Why was he here?
Maddie said she was coming down to sit with Evan so they could swap and (Y/n) and Eddie could go home to the boys. It had taken all Eddie's strength to get his sister to leave Evan's side and come down to the waiting room and he could see it had unsettled her and made her feel worse.
She had been awake for over twenty four hours. (Y/n) had spoken to numerous doctors, pushed past nurses and made her spot next to Evan's beside like a vigil. She hadn't moved all night. She ate nothing, drank nothing, had no sleep and she was running on fumes but felt like she could easily carry on this way for days, weeks, if she had to. She just wanted to be beside Evan.
"Baby," (Y/n)'s voice rattled as she pushed up to unsteady feet and held her arms out for Theo.
The eldest bolted over to her and knocked her back with his force until Eddie grabbed her waist to steady them both. His arms deadlocked around his mum's neck and he buried his face in her chest, holding her so tightly she had to bite her lip to supress a groan.
"Why did you bring him?" Eddie curled a hand into Theo's sandy curls that just made him look the spitting image of Evan as a teen. He kissed his nephew's head but his dark eyes locked with Maddie.
What was she thinking? Why had she brought him down here when they were coming home to see the boys?
"I wanna see dad."
(Y/n)'s shoulders slumped and she pulled back an inch, moving her hands to cup Theo's face and rest their foreheads together. Her lips tried to form a smile but all she could do was quiver and let fresh tears fall as Theo clung to her wrists like he was about to snap them.
"Absolutely not. You're not going in there- they don't let kids in the ICU, you're coming home with us." Eddie's hands clamped down on his hips as his chest tensed and strained against his shirt.
That was not a sight he wanted his nephew to see.
He thought of his dad as his hero. He loved seeing Evan on tv and watching him go out in uniform and see him put others first to look after everyone he could. Theo didn't need that image to change and see his dad laid up with tubes and wires in his skin and see the markings on his body. He shouldn't see his dad fighting for his life, unable to breathe on his own.
"Baby, he's not well and he's asleep. He won't be able to see or talk to you,"
"No, no I need to see him. I want my dad let me see him!"
Theo let go of his mum when she shook her head and turned away. She wasn't up for a debate or an argument and he could see in her eyes that if he pushed, he would win her over. (Y/n) knew her son. Seeing Evan wasn't something he should have to bear witness to, but if he was adamant, (Y/n) knew Theo could handle seeing Evan like that. It might do Evan some good if he could somehow hear his son talk to him.
He turned to his uncle, the only one he had to win over. When Maddie said she was going to the hospital, Theo begged her to take him. He wouldn't take no for an answer and she explained some of the situation in the car. He had to see his dad and make sure he was alive. He had to tell his dad to come back to them and make him see how important it was that he get better.
"He can handle this," Maddie held her bag in her hands that were tightly clasped in front of her.
"I saw dad when he shattered his leg-"
"Yeah, because he wasn't in the ICU he was awake and responsive."
"He's my dad and I wanna see him! Let me see him let me in! I'm not leaving until you take me to him! Dad!"
(Y/n) curved her arms back around her middle like she was trying to give herself a comforting hug but it didn't help when all she wished was that it was Evan holding her in his arms. Her lips rolled together and she tensed beside her brother when Theo started to lash out.
The teen balled his hands up into fists, twitched the end of his nose and curled his upper lip in an expression that mimicked Evan and made (Y/n) shudder. When he started to bash his fists into Eddie's chest, Eddie tilted his head back and sighed through gritted teeth, tensing his body as he tried to remain calm, but it was proving hard.
He let Theo unleash his anger and rage but when he screamed into his chest, Eddie was done.
His large hands enclosed around his nephew's wrists and he yanked his arms roughly until they were pinned up into Eddie's chest, leaving him unable to fight or pull away. Panic rolled through Theo in waves when his uncle leaned over him, standing so close that their breathing patterns started to match, their foreheads were touching and their noses were less than an inch apart.
The look in Eddie's eyes was maddening. Theo had never seen anything like it before.
"Calm. Down."
The unspoken rule suddenly hung in the tense atmosphere around them and seemed to dawn on Theo. When his dad was away or indesposed, his uncle was in charge. When Evan was in the hospital for his operations on his leg, (Y/n) had split her time between being with the kids and being at the hospital with Evan. Eddie stepped in to help with the kids and they all understood that what he said goes when Evan was away.
The same went for Chris when Eddie had been shot on the job or when he wasn't well and Evan was the one to look after him.
"You want to be a grown up? Fine, I'll treat you like one. If you want to go in there, you stop throwing a tantrum at me and your mum right now."
"Y-you'll take me to him?" Theo's chest heaved as he looked between his mum and uncle, unsure if this was a ploy to get him to calm down or if they were being serious. He knew he had won Maddie over in the car and he could see his mum was too fragile to argue with him which meant if he asked, she would say yes. Eddie was the one to please here.
"You clearly think you're grown up enough to handle this situation. So tell me if you can. Tell me you can handle seeing him laid in bed with a tube forced down his throat and a machine breathing for him and controlling his heart."
Eddie's arms folded over his chest as he leaned back and rose one brow, keeping a plain, expressionless face that masked his pain and grief far too well.
"Can you sit there and watch a machine pump his chest and one feed him? Your dad is in a coma, his heart and lungs were shocked. He won't move, he won't twitch or open his eyes and he won't respond to you or touch you or acknowledge you in any way. We don't know if he would be able to hear you. Can you handle that?"
Theo needed to know that this wasn't going to be like last time.
When Evan had his multiple operations on his leg, he had been laid up in bed chatting and laughing. He had his leg in a cast or elevated in a sling at the end of the bed. He was talking, moving, eating and looking awake and alert. Theo had seen the nurses repeatedly come into the room to tell Evan he couldn't get out of bed, not even for the bathroom. He watched them push him back into bed and he saw his mum sternly tell Evan that she was leaving if he played up the doctors and nurses.
This wasn't going to be the same. This time, Evan would be laid down, motionless and unresponsive. He wouldn't speak, he wouldn't blink or open his eyes or move his arm or twitch his hand when Theo went to hold him. He wouldn't talk, he wouldn't be breathing. There would be a large plastic tube taped into his mouth and down his throat that would automatically pump his lungs and cause his chest to rise and fall.
There would be a feeding tube in his stomach, IVs taped into his wrists and hands. Monitors glued to his chest, clips on his fingers to monitor his heartbeat.
No matter what Theo said or did, his dad wasn't going to do anything and there was no guarantee that Evan would hear anything they said to him. If he woke up, he might have no knowledge of Theo visiting him.
It was a lot for an adult to take, let alone someone of Theo's age.
"Can I cry?"
Theo's response sent a shockwave through Eddie and made him take a step forward when all he wanted to do was retreat into a cave and hide away until this was all over.
"What do you think we've been doing?" Eddie motioned to his face that he knew was sore, reddened and puffy from the amount of tears he had shed. When he reached forward and curled his arms around Theo, he felt his nephew's fingers digging bruisingly into his back. "Of course you can cry," He whispered quietly before he kissed the top of Theo's sandy hair.
"I wanna see my dad," His voice was calmer, more stoic and when he looked up at Eddie, he tried to hold his breath and show he was doing his best to be calm.
"It's a good job you don't look your age," Eddie curved his arm around Theo's shoulders, wedging his nephew between him and (Y/n) as Maddie moved to lead the way and make sure no nurses were lurking around. Theo could easily pass for sixteen or eighteen at a push. He was skinny and frail but he was tall and with his dad's bone structure, he gained a few years.
(Y/n) reached down and tangled her fingers with Theo's, pulling his hand up to kiss it as they headed down to the ICU.
They were lucky no nurses were doing their rounds, they got straight down to Evan's room without having to hide Theo or rush him around a bend to stop from getting kicked out. They would start asking questions if they saw Theo down here and at the moment, the staff were leaving them alone. The nurses didn't question the amount of people flocking in and out of Evan's room or the people crying and arguing and storming down the corridors.
(Y/n) kept tight hold of Theo's hand and moved her right hand to rest on his shoulder. She kissed the side of his head, feeling Eddie squeeze him into his side when they walked through the door.
Theo's breathing seemed to stop and the smallest, hushed whimper burned at the back of his throat when he looked over at the bed.
That didn't look like his dad.
He had seen his dad asleep countless times. He saw his dad fall asleep on the sofa, on the edge of his bed with one arm and a leg hanging towards the floor. Once when (Y/n) had been sick and fell asleep on the sofa, in too much pain for Evan to carry her upstairs, Theo woke in the morning to find his dad asleep on the rug beneath the sofa so he could still stay with (Y/n).
This was different. His dad was laid on his back, slightly propped up at an angle, as still as a frozen lake in winter.
There was a horrid, bubbling tube down his throat and pinned in place between his lips, connected to the ventilator, something Theo had never seen before. He didn't like the automatic, uneasy way it pushed his dad's chest to rise and fall in a horridly fluid motion.
His hair was curled up at odd angles, needing to be brushed. His skin was pale without a trace of his usual blush or baby pink patches. Every part of his dad was still when his dad was usually such a hyperactive person. Theo knew his dad would twitch and tap and rattle in his sleep, he couldn't even lie still when he was in bed. Being like this was unnatural for him.
"Come sit down,"
(Y/n) moved to the seat she had been in all night that was still warm from earlier. Her body easily slotted into place in the blue foam chair and she moved to curl both her hands around Evan's right hand. She brought his hand to her lips, kissing around the IV bandaged in place and she traced her fingertips up and down his arm, keeping his hand pressed to her cheek.
While Maddie sat in the seat on the other side of the bed, Eddie held Theo's shoulder and walked with him to stand beside (Y/n). He switched his hand to hold (Y/n)'s shoulder and lean into her while they let Theo decide what he wanted to do and if he wanted to say something.
After a moment of deliberation, Theo moved to sit down on the edge of the bed, taking a closer inspection of his dad.
"What's that?" He didn't know whether touching his dad would make him feel better or worse. Looking at his dad, it was as if he was a wax model and touching him would prove he wasn't real. But when Theo leaned forward and pulled the collar of his dad's gown down, he was surprised to feel warm skin beneath his touch.
"He was on the ladder when the lightning struck⊠it went down his arm and into his chest. That's why he isn't breathing on his own yet, it shocked his system."
Red streaks had swelled up on his right arm, gone all the way over his shoulder and down over his upper chest towards his sternum.
"How long will he be like this?"
When Theo reached out to touch Evan's arm, (Y/n) gently held Evan's hand out towards her son. He needed the comfort more than her, she had been sat clinging to Evan all night. It was Theo's turn to try and comfort his dad and calm himself down too.
"A few days at least, we're not sure yet."
"And you said he can't hear us?" Theo held his dad's hand and tried to rub his arm, being careful of the wires all around him. He had wires beneath the bedding, taped up his arm, on his chest and towards his throat. He looked more like a robot than a human.
"He might, some people in comas can still hear their surroundings and they say talking helps. You know your dad doesn't like silence," Maddie looked fondly at her brother before she looked back at her nephew. If Evan could hear them, he would need them to chat his ear off. Silence was something he hated.
A sudden wave of fear and nostalgia washed over Theo all at once and before he could stop himself, he moved around. He coiled his legs up onto the bed, brought his knees towards his stomach and laid on his left side with his back up against his dad's side. He curled his hands around his dad's arm that he pressed into his chest and laid his head on his dad's shoulder, feeling like he was a toddler sneaking into his parent's room at night.
"Please wake up soon," Theo whispered the words into his dad's arm before he closed his eyes and nuzzled his face into his arm, trying to pretend they were back at home. That this was just Theo waking from a nightmare and staying the night in their room.
His dad was just asleep. There were no wires or tubes or breathing machines beeping constantly in the background. They were just sleeping.
"I'm trying!"
Evan's hands curled into fists and slammed into the window so hard that if this had been the real world and not his consciousness, the glass would have shattered and his knuckles would have split open.
"Buddy I- I'm trying!" His forehead bashed into the window separating him from his family.
Why was he here? Why was he trapped behind a pane of glass like his life was a tv show he was watching? He didn't want to be in this world. Evan didn't want to be in a world where his parents were oddly affectionate towards him and he didn't meet (Y/n) until their twenties and they didn't have any of the boys. He wanted to be back there with his real family that needed him.
"I'm still here! I'm still. Fucking. Here!"

Luke was too rough
Her hands grip the sheets beside her desperately looking for an anchor to earth. Luke has her legs spread as far as they can to fit himself between them trusting hard and deep âFeel that baby?â he asked as he pushed on her lower stomach causing her head to roll back as well as her eyes âThat is me mh fucking you so deep.'' They haven't seen each other in a week with him going to see his friends and y/n visiting her family and it has only made everything more intense and rough just like it always is when they are away from each other.
Until Luke thrusts a too-deep hitting her cervix âLuke stop stop stop!â she squeals out pushing on his lower stomach to get him to stop before turning over onto her stomach with her knees to her chest âWhat happened baby did I hurt you?â Luke is panicked. It all happened so fast y/n couldn't do anything but nod her head face still on the mattress.
âI'm so sorry, how can I make it better?â she shook her head not being able to talk yet, and grabbed his hand. She sat there for 5 minutes before she could talk without it hurting. Luke was getting really worried âDo we need to go to the hospital?â trying to catch her breath âJust- went too deep Lu that's all I'm okay,â she said gently turning on her back to look at him
âIt's not ok I hurt you I'm so sorry.â he sounded mad like he found out some guys pushed you or something but the anger was directed at himself âI'm ok now Luke it's fine.â he shook his head before pulling on some sweats and walking into the bathroom for a rag to clean her up.
âLuke.â he doesn't look at her just continues to clean between her legs so she grabs his wrist stopping him âLook at me Luke.â he does and she sees the look of guilt on his face âI'm okay You have always been big we just got carried away you don't need to worry about me.â he lets out a deep breath âI am worried about you and I feel like a piece of shit for hurting you It won't happen again.â
He said the last part more to himself to y/n âI want you to see a doctor just to make sure everything is okay.â y/n pulled him to lay next to her so she could cuddle up to him â I will call them tomorrow please don't beat yourself up about this Luke.â he drew patterns on her back staring into space â I won't I promise.â and he was lying through his teeth.
The next day y/n woke up very sore with some lower back pain and had breakfast in bed from her still very guilty boyfriend. After breakfast, she gave her ob a call just to see what she had to say. After her call, Luke hounded her about everything she was told: âShe said that it happens to women everywhere all the time and to not do any sexual activities until it heals.â Luke looked happy enough with those answers and she thought they would move past this whole ordeal.
She was wrong, it had been two weeks since they last had sex and Luke hadn't so much as cuddled with her for more than five minutes at a time he barely touched her, and every time they kissed she initiated it. When she sat on his lap to watch a movie with him she could feel him tense up âLuke you know you can touch me right?â He looked at her like she was crazy. âOf course I know I can touch You just pulled me from my train of thought is all.â
They were about 30 minutes in when Y/n started kissing his neck she started small and worked her way up getting more and more confident especially when he let a groan slip âBaby we are getting to the good part.â y/n didn't stop her kisses just turned his head to plant one on his lips he tense before giving in and kissing her back. It got pretty heated and y/n moved to be sitting straight up on his lap and tugging at the bottom of his shirt.
That pulled him from his love-drunk daise âStop trying to get undressed we aren't having sex.â he said it so straightforwardly that it took her by surprise. âUm, right, sorry, I thought we had something going there that is my fault for assuming that boyfriends and girlfriends have sex or can stand to be around each other at all,â she said with tears in her eyes before getting up to go to their room ây/n wait. I didn't mean it like that." She ignored him and ran up the stairs. She wasn't normally this emotional but then again Luke had never denied her of anything.
Luke had no idea what to do of course he wanted to have sex that wasn't the issue he just couldn't do it if it was going to hurt you and he promised he would never do that. After letting her cool off for a while he knocked on their door before letting himself in. â go awayâ she had been crying and that broke his heart â I just want to talk about it. I love you and I don't want to see you cry.â y/n sat up and looked at his dead in the eyes â then leave.â and flopping back down on the bed.
She knew she was being childish but she was upset and pent-up âJust listen to what I have to say please. when I saw you in pain knowing that I caused it I didn't know what to do with myself and I never wanted to cause you pain ever again. I'm sorry I was scared and upset that I hurt you and I hurt you again by not giving you the attention you deserve.â y/n sat up and pulled him into a hug â I'm sorry if I made you feel guilty. It's just that we already have so little time to be together during the session I got into my head and we both work well with clear communication so we should stick to that next time we are feeling some type of way.â
â I completely agree and just so you know whenever you are ready to finish what we started downstairs I am totally up for that.â y/n tackled him to the bed before he could say anything else

Lando was finally back in England, to spend his winter break with his family and friends. The cold air hit his face as soon as he got out of his car in front of the modern apartment building his best friend lived in. A glass revolving door stood in the middle of two giant windows that revealed the inside of the building, the hall and elevators.
He impatiently waited to see her after the doors of the elevator opened, they hadn't seen each other in a while, Lando was always too busy to visit her but did try to call her at least twice a week so he could hear her voice even if it was through the phone.
â So, what time is it there in⊠Where is it that you are now? I forgot â
â Abu Dhabi, it's almost nine o'clock I think, what about home, it's like six right? â
â Yeah, I have to go in a bit, I have you on speaker, getting dressed for a date right now â
â A date, with? Do I know him? â
â No, I don't think so, I know him from work, his name is Derek, he is from the USA I think, anyway, he is super super sweet. You would like him â
â If you say so, anyway, where are you and this, Derek, going â
â Um, I don't know, I guess probably a pub â
â A pub, for your first date ever, could've done something a little fancier, I would've taken you to a restaurant at least â
â Well first not everyone has your economic level, do they Lando and secondly, for your information he is taking me on a date not you â she, jokingly commented
â I wish I was â Lando said, under his breath, barely a whisper, she was not able to hear him through the noise of her blow drier.
â Did you say something? â
â What? Oh no, nothing at all â
â Well, I have to leave in like ten, so, thanks for this two hours Lan, I'll see you soon, right? I hope â
â Yeah, yeah. Abu Dhabi last race of the season so, in a few days I'll fly to you â
â That is, amazing, I've missed you lots, anyway, can not wait to see you, good bye â
The call cut off, before he could get to say goodbye, Daniel who sat by his side during the final moments of their conversation laughed at him.
â Just tell her you like her mate, it ain't that hard â His teammate said smiling, he swore he saw the connection between them.
â What are you even talking about â Lando, who had denied his feelings for his best friend ever since Daniel brought it up after the Silverstone grand prix, the last time she went to one of his races and he had annoyed Lando about it after that day.
â You just keep denying your feelings mate, just don't regret it when the one who ends up with her isn't you â Daniel replied, getting up from his seat and walking out of the room after hearing Zak calling them.
â Oh shut up Daniel â Lando said walking out behind him.
â©*ââŸâïœĄÂ°â©
â So, how've you been â Lando asked her after hugging each other for a few minutes as soon as they saw each other.
â Great, lately everything has been going so good, and you? â
â Yeah? That's amazing, I'm good, kinda sad Danny's leaving though but I have the feeling he'll end up hanging 'round the grid anyway â
â Yeah, I saw that, It's really sad â she mentioned
â Okay stop, no sad stuff. We see each other after five months and get depressing, get in the car, I promised you a coffee date and I'm getting you that coffee. â
â Oh my god, yes, let's go, please â She said, excitedly, he opened the door to his car, letting her in.
â So, you're gonna make me listen to Taylor? â He asked after getting in the car, their tradition was listening to her favorite artist when he drove so Taylor Swift was constantly playing through his car's speakers.
â How is that a question, that's offensive Lando Norris â She said jokingly, her phone automatically connecting to his car's bluetooth.
â Before we, um, get going, I got you something in Brazil, hope you like it â He said and handed her a small box, finding a small silver necklace inside.
â You are kidding! Lando I love it, it's gorgeous, seriously â Her fingers traced over the necklace looking at it with adoration, the boy beside her looking at her with adoration that she could not notice â Thank you so much, you didnât have to. â
â When I saw it I thought you might like it, I'm happy I was right â
â Okay, let me put it on and we can leave, seriously Lando I love it â She confessed, their hands touched for a second when she gave him the necklace so he could put it on her.
Y/N placed her hair on her shoulder, so he could access her neck more easily. His hands grazed the necklace, making shivers run down her spine, the warmness of her skin contrasting with the coldness of his hands.
â Okay, we should get going, right? â She said, washing away the moment
â Yeah, sure â The car engine started and his hands reached the maneuver.
â So, how have you and this guy, Derek, was it? How's it been? â He asked, his eyes never leaving the road.
â Amazing honestly, I told he was super sweet, I'm taking him as a date to that party Max is doing next month â She commented, his grip over the maneuver tightened
â Yeah? Great, that's great â His mind spun around the words Daniel had said to him the day before their last race of the year, but still he could not get himself to admit his feelings.

â So, when is it starting again? â Y/N asked, straightening her hair in front of the mirror he had in his bedroom, they had a party that night planned by a friend of theirs.
â What? the party orâŠ? â
â No, the season, when do you have to go back to traveling around the world â
â Like march or something but I think I'm gonna like do practices and stuff so I'll leave a bit earlier â
â Oh, so in like a month and a half, I'll miss you Lan â She said looking at him through the window.
â I promise I'll get you to come to more races, send you a private plane and all â He laughed walking up to her
â We should get going â Y/N said, turning around to face her friend.
â Sure, let's go â
Once already in the car, they kept chatting, Lando's eyes leaving the role for a second to look at her again, as if he could ever forget her silhouette.
â You didn't bring a date â Lando said after speaking about the party
â You didn't either, and? â
â Well I don't have anyone else to bring but you â
â Don't even lie, you have dozens of girls lining up to date you, besides we are bringing each other as a plus one â
â Yeah but I thought you would bring that guy you were talking to â
â Oh, um, we are not really talking anymore, I didn't feel much of a connection honestly â Lando didn't answer, he just looked at her, when they stopped at a red light, thousands of thoughts running through his mind at once. He prefered to stay silent this time.
â Anyway it's not that deep, not like I thought he was the love of my life but it is kind of awkward that I have to see him at work now â
â Then we'll find a job where you don't have to see him everyday â He joked making her laugh, oh how he wished he could be the only one to make her laugh that way.
â©*ââŸâïœĄÂ°â©
Lando's eyes opened wide, looking at the ceiling of his room. The imaginary feeling of his bestfriends lips lingered over his as if it had happened.
He had dreamt of a confession that night, from him to her, kisses on sidewalks and an ordinary life by her side. And then he knew it, what deep down he was sure of all along, he was in love
â Hey Lando⊠â His friend said, looking down at him from the bed, the last letter being pronounced a little longer.
â You're my best friend â He blurted out, to her seemingly out of nowhere
â You're mine too Lando â She replied smiling at him. â Anyway, I was gonna ask if you wanted to make breakfast, I'm dying to eat something â
â Sure yeah, let's go â
Y/N got up from the bed wearing one of Lando's shirts and a pair of shorts, also his. His eyes took in the view, thinking about how he could get used to her sight every morning.
When he finally got up from the matress, he found her listening to music put on his television.
â They got burned, sorry â She said, showing the, now black, toasts she had on the plate, laughing he walked up to her and grabbed the plate, putting it back on the table.
â Don't worry, we'll make more â Lando said, grabbing his friends hand and twirling her around making her laugh.
â Grant me a dance first â He said and she nodded lifting her shirt a bit, pretending it to be a dress, Something by The Beatles heard in the background, locking them in their own little bubble.

Bahrain, first race of the year, back in the game. He had prepared himself for a month before it ready to start the season on top, at least top 10.
Unluckily for him, the race was everything but good for him and his team, Oscar dnf'd and he, well he ended up seventeenth, and with the three dnfs that meant he ended up last, on his first race of the season he was last, someone had to be of course but he thought the place would take it a Haas or a Williams, not a Mclaren and especially not him.
Where was he now? At the hotel bar, it was probably around 1 am and in front of him he counted around four now empty glasses that once had a drink. His phone was on his hand now, the phone number of his best friend appeared on the screen.
One, two, three calls later he decided to leave her a voice mail, confessing everything, to the last bit of love he had for her he poured in that message.
â I'm in love with you Y/N, so much since we were kids I think â That's the last thing she heard, after a minute of slurred words she could barely understand that was the only phrase she could hear clearly coming out of her best friends mouth through her phone.
She wanted to cry and scream into a pillow, break everything around her and jump and shput of happiness and go running to whatever part of the world he was in right now and give him the greatest kiss in the world.
Right now, Y/N found her self infront of her bestfriends house, the message telling him she was there had been sent a few seconds ago. She played with her hands impatiently waiting for him to open the door of his home.
â Hey, come in â Lando who had also been waiting for her impatiently said as soon as he opened the door.
She walked through the door before him and sat on the couch by his side. Her eyes went from her lap to his hands and back to her lap, never once looking at his eyes, nervous.
â I don't want this to ruin our friendship Y/N, it was stupid really, I was drunk after that shitty race â
â Lando shut up â She smiled at him and her hands touched his now the contact made him stop talking â I love you too â The confession made him look up, his eyes on hers surprised
â You do, huh, um⊠I didn't plan what to say if that happened â
â You don't need to tell me anything, although I would like to hear you saying what you told me on that voice mail, but first â Her lips on his, like in his dream that last night they were together after the party. Lando's hands touched the end of her hair, something he knew she loved and then moved to her back
When they finally pulled away Lando spoke â I love you, so much, I dreamt of this, literally â He chuckled and moved a strand of hair that covered her face, his hand cupped the face of the girl infront of him, who smiled after his words.
â My mom is going to be so happy about this â She said laughing and resting her face on his chest
â Yeah mine too and Danny, oh my god, I think he was the first one to realize my feelings for you â He joined her laughter thinking about his friends reaction to the fact that they had told each other they were in love.

Miami Waves - Logan Sargeant x NewZealandOlympicSurfing! Reader
Plot: Miami boy wants to see if his Olympic surfing girl can keep up with the Floridian waves and you end up getting to know his colleagues more in the process
âThank you for coming and being here with meâ he smiles, his parents had been wanting to meet you for a while. Youâd started dating when he first got into F2 and was put under the Williams Young Driver Programme.
âYou knew I wouldnât say no. Iâve been wanting to meet them just as much!â You exclaim. You were a little nervous to meet them, as in your mind Logan was it for you, this was the boy you wanted to marry and have a family with. And even if he didnât feel the same way right now, that was okay. Not that you knew if he did as youâd never discussed your guys future.
But if you had, he would have told you he felt the exact same way.
Meeting his parents was so much fun, and you got to meet his older brother who teased the both of you relentlessly.
You were used to surfing in Australia and New Zealand. They were the closest to you, and there wasnât quite any waves like their were on the Australian Coastline. Thatâs actually where youâd won, one of your first ever championships in surfing. Two years later and you were a Silver Medalists.
âWell my family love you. Iâm pretty sure they wanted you to move inâ he laughs, Logan lived at home all through his career in F2 and he still visited often as he always said how he felt like an outcast on the F1 grid.
Alex helped but heâd drifted apart from Oscar and had to watch him form a really strong bond with Lando.
He still talked to his friends from his days in Prema as well but everything but you felt so disconnected lately.
So spending those two weeks with his family and you in Miami in the beach villa you'd all rented was vital for the both of you. You felt like you'd been so busy running around, travelling the world with Logan all the time, surfboard rentals at every new place you went so you could train and sometimes travelling for your own championships.
You spent the two weeks doing the most mundane stuff, like cooking together with Logan, building sandcastles, teaching him how to paddle board before showing him the intricacies that came with surfing, which you thought considering his concentration and hand-eye coordination in an F1 car he'd be good at but he couldn't stay on the board once.
Your favourite thing was his family getting really excited to show your their favourite local restaurants in Florida.
You were currently sat on your surfboard with your legs in the water and hands on the middle part of it, watching everything in the neck high water below you.
The water's were crystal clear and you could see the little fishes swimming around playing through the sand. You were swaying a little bit where the quieter, unrideable waves were lapping over your board and sending you in random directions.
You were peacefully watching everything go by, until that peace was ruined by Logan, coming running into the water in his basketball shorts making you look over to him in shock.
"Logan?" you asked as he swam up to hold into your board, you scooted back so that he could haul himself up and sit opposite you on the board.
"Erm, so ... kind of last minute but you about to meet Oscar, Arthur and Freddie" Logan said, trying to give you his cute teddy bear smile, but all that was running through your body was shock.
It was a bit strange but you hadn't actually met his friends, you were very very busy with training for the next Olympics and another set of Championships in New Zealand when Logan was in F2, so you didn't see him in the paddock as much as you do now, and if you did you were nervous and kept to yourself.
"No, stop. I'm basically naked!" you exclaim looking down at your cleavage that wasn't well covered up by your bikini.
"Come on, lets go meet them. And get you a cover-up because I don't trust them" he laughs, placing a hand and the side of your neck before pulling you into a passionate kiss. You guys moved closer to each other to the point where you were basically sat on his lap. A wave a little to large came and toppled you both off the board making you both come up sputtering in shock.
You swim to where the water is knee deep and see three boys watching you.
"Oh" you mutter, knowing exactly who they were.
"Baby, these are my friends" he offers, grabbing your coverup and handing it to you so you could chuck it on.
"Yeah i gathered" you chuckle.
You spent the day with the boys, Oscar was the only one that could surf and you found yourself getting on with all of them, Oscar the most who became like a sort of Oceanic brother to you, being from Australia.
Arthur and Freddie were a whole other story, constantly flirting with you to try and get a rise out of Logan which you couldn't help but giggle at but always grab his hand, arm of leg in a comforting way to let him know none of it was affecting you.
"So, how are you feeling about the Paris Olympics?" Freddie asks as you were all sat around a bonfire, telling stories.
"Yeah confident, I'm excited to be able to participate in it for a second year running! Going for Gold and all that..." you grin.
"Well... we will all be there to watch you, right Logan?" Arthur grins, making you shake your head again.

SAVE YOUR BREATH â Armando Aretas [October Prompts] đ§Ą
A/N: This was inspired by the show FROM and this fic has a slight crossover with the show that I squeezed into this plot. I initially had no plans to take it further than a certain symbol. I was supposed to end it there (while also keeping this short) but I kept writing lol! If you havenât watched you should for this season especially! Also loosely inspired by Midnight mass đ«Ł & just know picking songs that fit the spooky vibe or fall aesthetic is also a job yâall đ
S/N: If youâre a reader whoâs been impacted by the hurricane(s) I hope you and your loved ones are safe during this difficult time! đ«¶đœ
PROMPTS ARE FROM HERE & HERE + Iâm using: "Give me one good reason not to kill you." "I'm immortal, soâŠit's actually not possible." + SCENARIOS â 6. Visiting an apple orchard.
SYNOPSIS: in which Armando wants to avenge your death but your attempts to make him let it slide, brings on a new level of danger heâs not all that prepared for.
đ·ïž: @violetmuses + @believeinthefireflies95 + @nobodygetsza
âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëââ§âș âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëââ§âș âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëââ§âș âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëââ§
Giving Armando space wasnât really effective since he can still feel you hovering, whether you were behind him lounging against the wall and slicing up some apples to eat while you kept quiet for the most part, or just you simply letting your ghost eyes chill through him.
Heâs been on his computer for weeks and didnât want any help. Any wink of sleep he got was not something he allowed on his own, heâs been functioning off caffeine and eye drops to keep him going trying to track down your killer. Mikeâs been telling him to let him handle it, since there was a part of Mike that knew Armando would be back to his old ways, especially after losing you. Now that Mike was slowly building something with his son, he didnât want Armando to throw it all away. Which definitely brought off heated energy because who was Mike Lowrey to tell Armando how to get justice? Armando had his mother to thank for that, even in death, she was still controlling his life. It has been months since he was on the run and since you played a part in his hiding, that meant you had to serve time, whereas Mike pulled a deal for Armando to work for AMMO that would amount up to the added time he needed to serve, You got the short end of the stick.
No shock thereâand to make a long story short, you gave as good as you could in prison but Armandoâs mother had it planned that if something were to ever happen to her, she had people that would take you out as well, since she had this unhealthy jealousy when it came to you and Armando.
Nothing ever become of you and Armando but she saw it before you two ever had the chance to fully explore.
So when Mike had to deliver the news of your passing, Armando felt like what was left of him died.
Your relationship with his mother was also very complex. Isabel Aretas was the one who stole you from your own family at just eight years old. Nothing Isabel did made logical sense, you would think that the one person that made your child happy, you would still want your child to have some sort of happiness so that they wouldnât be alone right? Wrong. Isabel strived to be the only one in her sonâs life, out of some unresolved issues and because your bond with Armando was also strong, she wanted to take that with her as well.
It took time but it happened.
In her mind, this would make Armando the deadliest kingpin there could ever be. It builds character, which was her excuse for masking her love as manipulation. When you got away from her, you wanted Armando out too but that resulted in many things with Isabel calling you a, âungrateful bitch,â and Armando being too blind to see how Isabel was going to get them both killed.
She almost succeeded.
âI think you should just let this go, youâre able to start this new life now. Even if you hate it, maybe itâll be worth it.â You tried to tell Armando, who wouldnât bring his red eyes away from the screen.
His brows furrowed as he harshly clicked around on his mouse, âNo. I wonât. Iâm doing this for us.â
âItâs not going to bring me back.â You state, âKarma will get them one way or another.â
âI donât have faith in that.â
But he had the answers!
âWell maybe you should have some faith in me.â
âMaybe if you minded your business, you wouldnât be where youâre at.â Armando snapped, which caught you off guard.
You wouldnât make excuses for him.
That was low and he knew it because his eyes clenched not long after those words escaped his lips. âIâm sorryâ
A gush of wind was all that he heard, which means that you actually left him on his own. It was for a minute too, he kept calling out to you like a crazy person in his apartment as the days went on but you wouldnât break. Sure he was persistent but you were also very stubborn and didnât mind making him sweat it out.
There was no way he tried to shift his motherâs actions and deem them as your fault. She took you from your family as a child, causing an accident where you couldnât remember the last eight years of your lifeâonly the new image the Aretasâ builtâkilled your father instantly in that accident, left your mother in the hospital with a lengthy recovery just to worry herself into sickness and die not knowing if you were ever safe, made you believe you were living with the Aretas out of false pretenses, made everything so squeaky clean that for years you couldnât find any true history of your past life, tried to mold you into her one of her many soldiers, continued to lie to about not only you but Armandoâs upbringing, and gaslit the both of you once those truthâs came to light.
Isabel was taken out of the game first but at least you were able to go out with a smile on your face, Mrs. Aretas couldnât say the same.
When you did return, it was when Armando found out the whereabouts of your killer. She was free from jail, ironically five months after your murderâthe system pinned it on another inmateâand would be down at the apple orchard with her little family.
âArmanâŠthis isnât a good idea.â You appeared behind him, as heâs flicking the collar of his leather jacket up after sipping into it.
He scoffs, âAppearing from the shadows today? After you literally ghosted me? is rich I have to say.â
âAnd I had every right to. This vengefulness is making you sick, havenât you learned this yet? What is it going to take for you to get it through your thick ass skull, huh?â You follow him as he opens the secret compartment in his room that contained all of his weapons.
You were positive Mike did not know about this stash. Armando probably shouldnât have any of this kind of weaponry in this temporary home Mike had him set up in. Regardless, Armando was smart he wouldnât just take these handouts since he knew they came at a cost and had numerous bunkers over the globe. If he wanted to be gone again, he could be.
âYou need to get out of my way,â Armando says to you as you simply cross your arms after he comes back out with a case.
You tilt your head, âor what?â
With swiftness, Armando pulls a knife that looks awfully familar as he shoves it right underneath your chin, âGive me one good reason not to kill you.â
Flashing your pretty teeth at him with your arms still folded you respond, âI'm immortal, soâŠit's actually not possible. Is it genius?â
Armando blinks, âdoesnât mean it still wonât hurt?â
ââŠthatâs the thing, you donât want to hurt me. You want to hurt everybody else.â You reason, which proves to be right as Armando rolls his eyes before removing the blade from your cold skin.
Sighing Armando puts his back to you, âI really donât have time for this.â
The sarcasm is heavy in your tone, âSure but you have time to execute a murder in front of who knows how many people and children?â
âNo need to worry,â Armando smirks, âIâm the better shooter anyway.â
Huffing you follow Armando as he starts making his way through the apartment, making sure he has everything before closing the door in your face. Of course you throw your hands up before walking right through the wall to follow the man down the hallway. If he was going to do this, then you were going to be right beside him trying to get him to change his mind before he actually got to the orchard.
It was funny really, Armando going to the one place you loved being. Something you could never explain, you always loved apples since you came into Armandoâs life. Apple scented things, favorite fruit and snack were apples, loved baking anything that had to do with applesânot that you had that much time to do that either catching bodies and all but in your sprinkle of free time you did. This was only explained once you knew your background, that you werenât from another place in South America but North. You had grandparents who owned a farm and were still looking for you after your parents passed.
Your parents were in debt to the wrong people.
The Aretas, so they took the one valuable thing and that happened to be you.
Now here you were not getting to enjoy the sights of the orchard because Armando was out for blood. In your honor. Past you who was just doing these things because you knew you could, would be proud but once you got away from the dark of this game, living the life you could have? Changed how you viewed the world. It drastically changed again once Armando Aretas showed up at your door.
âWhat are you looking to accomplish by doing this?â
Armando sighed as he opens the car door, âI went over this already.â
âOkayâŠso what are you going to tell Mike and Secada once they find out?â You inquire as you appear on the passenger side, âThe first person theyâre going to look for is you, you know that right?â
âI have an alibi.â
âDonât say something lame like visiting my mausoleum all the way in MassachusettsâŠknowing you canât leave the state alone.â
Armando goes quiet which lets you know that was exactly what he was planning on using. He hated having you be one step ahead of him and it showed. The blank expression he shot you, had you snorting into your hand and with a shake of your head you start to comment before Armando interupts.
âSave your breath.â Armando mutters
Moving the seatbelt with a sigh, so you can free your braids you say, âno, I donât think I will. We went long enough not speaking after you disrespected me by playing the blame game.â
He briefly glances over at you, hand tightening on the wheel, he regretted saying that to you, âI didnât mean any of it, amiga. I was in my head and when Iâm in my headâ
âYou donât listen,â you finish with a sharp nod, âwhich is why Iâm telling you that this a bad idea.â
He blinks, âis that a immortal feeling or something?â
You laugh again, âI donâtâŠthink thatâs a thing? Itâs just natural to not want you to end up, you know? Dead.â
âAppreciate that but the only way I get to move on, is if I do this.â
âUntil something else feeds that desire to kill again.â
âWeâre always going to be killers, though.â Armando replies, âwhether you like it or not in death or life. Thatâs just what we were made to be.â
âAnd itâs sad that you canât see that you can be much more than this.â You tell, âMaybe someday youâll see that.â
Armando hums, âAre you supposed to be my guardian Angel?â
âOh, I donât know about that amigo.â You rest your head back against the headrest, âyou did say we were killers and I donât think murders get to hold angel status.â
âIcarus was a fallen Angel though.â
âTouchĂ©.â
A small silence falls over the car ride while being surrounded by the busy life style of Miami. To find quality farms required traveling a good distance so Armando appreciated the silence, to gather his thoughts together. He could have gotten there faster if he purchased another bike but he was very limited now being underneath everyoneâs eyes.
With the way Armando drove, it felt like less than over an hour where the palm trees started to fade and the grass roads become more prominent. Heâs getting off the exit and thereâs a lot less traffic around this area, which worked in Armandoâs favor since you knew he preferred to go for the silent kill but if it had to get rowdy he could handle that as well. If there were kids there, which you hoped there wouldnât be many, you prayed that they would be leaving the site before Armando got into position.
âWould you look at that,â Armando pulls your attention away from the passenger window, âLime green jeep gladiator, weâre just in time.â
You deeply inhale, sitting up in the passenger seat while Armando keeps his distance, âget the case ready.â
âNo.â
The dark haired man with the thick facial hair cuts his eyes at you, âfine. Take the wheel, then.â
And his eyes told you not to argue with him, as he twists to the back of the vehicle to grab said item.
âThereâs witnesses.â You state, letting go of the wheel as Armando plops the case right into your lap.
Armando nods, âIâll aim for the tires, make it seem like they got a flat.â
ââŠdo you know if their kid is with them?â
âI know how to aim,â he argues, moving one hand to the case in your lap to unlock for his gun of choice along with a silencer.
Which didnât answer your question.
Heâs getting ready to roll down his window, your eyes go into slits as a black Escalade cuts you two off. You hold onto the arm of the door as Armando tries to swerve to the right as the Escalade also break checks him.
âArman,â you start, itâs a feeling that felt like the rolling of waves in the beginning of a storm but warm and you havenât felt warmth in some time.
Heâs slamming on breaks himself, that you feel your toes curl just waiting to slam into the gladiator. Yet the gladiator is off to the left in front of the Escalade thatâs attempting to shield your view of the car.
âThe hell?â Armando questions and you feel your breathing halt.
In front of you was a tree blocking the pathway to the orchard.
âT-This is it. This is what I tried to warn you of.â You say with shaky breath as you glance to meet Armandoâs eyes.
Thereâs a furrow in Armandoâs brows, trying to decipher what you were saying to him. Heâs caught off guard by you as heâs yanked out of the driverâs side. You feel a pull to your right, which made you frown because why could you feel this touch when it didnât belong to Armando?
Youâre shoved to your knees beside Armando whoâs trying to move the hands that hold him, away until a gun is placed to his temple. The doors to the gladiator are opened, revealing your killer and her wife, who quickly grabs hold of their five year old son.
âNo. This isnât right. I killed you.â She pointed at you, still keeping her distance behind what you and Armando believed to be her bodyguards.
Armando keeps his head still but his eyes move to peek at you.
âYou can see me?â You whisper before looking around at your surroundings, ââŠwe shouldnât be here.â
Your killer laughs, âno, you shouldnât.â She steps forward, eyes are harsh as she glared at you before shushing her partner while she moves in closer, âdid you two come here to kill me and my family? Big mistake.â
Armando shakes his head while admitting, ânot your family, just you.â
You wish you could have shushed him in this moment too.
Thereâs a film of gray that spills over the sky followed by the rustle of trees. You donât feel safe and not just because everyone can suddenly see you now. Where you resided when you werenât with Armando, allowed you to see many things you still couldnât explain. Perhaps it took time to make sense and you didnât have anyone that worked as a guide. In essence this was just like life.
No answers and just winging it.
However youâve seen this scene plenty of times before. The getting stuck by a road blockage, always a large tree with vehicles trying to find a way around. It was a cycle before they arrived to the town.
âThe town.â You inform causing all eyes to turn to you, âwe need to leave, now.â
Your killer huffs, âyou keep saying that. You want to leave so bad, here.â
And with that she snatched the gun from one of her bodyguards and aims right at you, firing the gun. At least for this death, you donât even feel it but you can only imagine how traumatizing this must have been for Armando.
âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëâ
âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëâ
âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëâ
âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëâ
Waking with a deep gasp that feels as if itâs been punched into your chest, you jolt upwards.
âWhoa, youâre okay.â Armandoâs voice is heard to the left of you, his hand rests on your thigh covered blanket.
Your eyes are wide while they connect with his dark ones.
A womanâs voice remarks next, âholy shit! You werenât lyingâŠand thereâs no bullet wound, not even a scar.â Her thumb swipes over your forehead, which you slap away.
âSorry.â She raised her hands in surrender, âI should introduce myself, Iâm Kristi. Armando brought you here in hopes that youâd come back to life. He uh, proved me wrong about you being dead since apparently you were already dead?â
You flick your eyes back to Armando who takes hold of your hand and thatâs when you notice theyâre stained, âthatâs rightâŠâ
A click of a gun is heard next, making all eyes turn to a dark skinned man in a blazer.
Not this again!
âBoyd! I donât think thatâs necessary.â Kristi tries to reason.
Boyd scoffs, âI think it is. Sure we get visitors but not ones like her. So youâre gonna tell me the truth and not what I want to fucking hear, are you one of those things because Iâve been waiting to trap one?â
Armando quickly moves to stand in front of the bed, blocking this Boyd guyâs view of you, âEven if she was whatever youâre accusing her to be, why would she tell the person that has a gun pointed at her?â
âThatâs fair,â Boyd shrugs, âwe just like to have some sort of answers in this fucked up town.â
âJoin the club,â you laugh, âsince I died, nothing has made much sense. And now Iâm back alive or at least somewhat? In this place Iâve only had visions of?â
Boyd starts to lower his gun and shares a glance with the wavy haired woman, who introduced herself as: Kristi.
ââŠI think we have a lot to discuss before we let you two freely roam the town.â
Armando glances at you from over his shoulder as he speaks, âthe townâŠis that the official name of this depressing looking place?â
âItâs easier to call it as such.â Kristi informs.
Armando realizes that youâre more connected than you let on.
âSorry about this,â Boyd says as he cuffs Armando whoâs confused, âwe found some bodies that donât belong here, along with a young boy who needs looking after, and itâs obvious you were all together and involved in some shit. So Iâm going to have to separate you two while we get some more information.â
âAre you fucken serious?â Armando gruffs, âweâll talk, we have nothing to hide but it seems like you dumbasses do.â
âYeah alright, wise guy.â Boyd roughly turns Armando around, âIâll be back before night falls to have a chat with you.â He explains as he shortly looks at you before turning to Kristi, âMake sure she doesnât leave your sight.â
Armando snickers, âgood luck with that, my amiga walks through walls for fun.â
Only that was something you understood, a small smile appearing on the corner of your lips as Boyd and Kristi share a frown, before Boyd leads Armando away from your sight.
âDonât worry, Armando is in good hands with the sheriff.â
You snort, âthat actually exists in this make believe place?â
Kristi pulls up a chair beside you, pulling her stethoscope from around her neck, âunfortunately this place isnât just in your head.â
A growl rips through your stomach just as sheâs scooting forward to listen to your heartbeat and breathing, âWhenâs the last time youâve eaten?â
âImmortals donât really get to eat. We just taste.â You answer.
Kristi nods and pushes back, disappearing behind a curtain for a moment before returning with a piece of a fruit, âWell try this for a change.â
You take the apple from her and wipe it against your sweater with slight laughter. Holding the red fruit towards the light, you bring it to your lips and take a bite. The crunch is almost as satisfying as its taste and your eyes close while you chew. âHoney crisp?â
âIâŠactually donât know.â Kristi says, âFood has just gotten better around hereâŠBut something tells me I should trust your instincts.â
You smile and breathe in as Kristi places the tool against your chest before moving to your back.
âTell me somethingâŠI have a feeling that your boyfriendâ
âSave your breath if youâre trying to hint at shooting your shot at him.â You dismiss.
Itâs Kristiâs turn to laugh, âoh noâŠumâŠjust trying to make conversation. And my fiancĂ©e actually works here with me. Sheâs doing inventory but youâll probably see her later since Iâll be hiking sometime tomorrow.â
You nod, âHiking? Armando and I arenât really hiking people. We grew up in Mexico City where rural wasnât what we were really used to but he wanted to go to the apple orchard today.â
Kristi hums, âdoing some good olâ apple picking huh? Never would have guessed.â She finished with a laugh.
âGuess we can be full of surprises.â
Kristi sits back in the chair, âyou can say that againâŠthereâs no heartbeat when I listen to your chest but thereâs a sound when I listen to your back.â
âA sound?â You press.
âLikeâŠa whirling sound?â
You tilt your head to the side, which makes Kristi stand and hand you the end of the tool to place into your ears, raising one arm so the wire can travel underneath your arm, she stretches the stethoscope to place at your back.
âBreathe in for me.â
You do.
âThen out and listen,â Kristi continues to instruct.
Following through again, you exhale all the way out awaiting the sound. The whirling sound, that sounds like wind in a snowstorm. A force against the quiet that has no thudding like a normal heart would and itâs so eerie that you know Kristi canât explain it either.
Taking another bite from the honeycrisp, you continue to listen while you breathe as you normally would and itâs still there every time you exhale. The season you left behind was autumn in a humid climate, you originally passed in late spring, and now as you got into the town and from what you can see from the window, winter was approaching.
Perhaps your heart was the timer for this town?
âWellâŠâ you say around chewing, âeither weâre going to be clueless for a while or Iâm going to be answer to saving everybodyâs lives. Let the party begin, chica!â
Kristi takes the medical device back and plops back down in the chair, offering a small smile. She didnât know you yet or the guy you came here with but part of Kristi felt like maybe things will start to become a little bit clearer.
So she saved her breath and hoped.
How much more hope can someone have in a place like this?
âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëâ
Back at the station, Boyd is pacing in front of the jail cell heâs holding Armando in.
Boyd summarized, âSo you kill people for a living?â
âI did.â Armandoâs monotone was off putting as he sat comfortably in the jail cell.
Boyd shakes his head and corrects, âyou do. You stopped for a little bit because you had no other choice but then relapsed at the sake of yourâŠyour girlfriend? Wife? FiancĂ©e?
âMy family.â Armando rectifies while Boyd didnât see the difference or really need the specifics.
âAre you some sort of serial killer?â Boyd quizzes, finding Armando demeanor to be too at ease.
âNo. Iâm many things but that.â
Boydâs eyes are in slits as he spits out, âAre you unalive too because thereâs no way you didnât get injured while taking four people out?â
Armando raises his hand, âjust more blood to scrub. The real person we should be worried about is her. I told you she was murdered in prison months ago and has been haunting me ever since. Now we get to some fucken fallen tree in the road and everybody but me can see her? That sound right to you, sheriff?â
Boyd laughs, âoh youâre gonna learn very quickly that nothing in this town is right.â
âShe said she had visions of this place before in spurts.â Armando reveals with his elbows digging into his knees, âAnd how she never wanted to be here, how she feared that once I didnât need to see her anymore this is exactly where she would end up. That some type of power was telling her this would be her eternity and I guess mine too if I didnât get my shit together.â
âW-what does that mean? If you died? Weâre not dead. She maybe but weâre not.â
âHow do you know?â
âThereâs gotta be missing signs of us. People looking for us. Weâve all been gone too long for there not to be.â Boyd mumbled to himself but Armando feels as if he isnât too sure.
If that is the case, then that means Mike is probably losing his shit right about now.
Armando inhales and sits back, âlooks like we got a lot to learn about each then, right sheriff? And I think the first person you actually want to start withâŠis her.â
Boyd doesnât doubt that since Armando didnât hold anything back. He quickly learned that the man was in his late twenties, had heavy resentment for both of his parents, especially the one he just learned was actually his parent and was now stuck working with him to pay for his crimes, which heâs been trained to basically be a killer with the friend beside him, and had no issue turning back into that person but was it worth it?
âWhy do I feel like youâre about to throw her under the bus? If sheâs family then why stab her in the back?â
Armando shrugs his shoulders, âItâs not stabbing when you do research and hold your cards close. I know what she is but I donât know much about this place, only she does. Which is why Iâm telling you, you need to let me out of this cage if you know whatâs good for you.â
Boyd held Armandoâs stare and it only took a few moments for him to believe a complete stranger, which is not something he usually did.
âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëâ
When they get back to the clinic, theyâre greeted at the door by Kristi who waves them in with a finger to her lips. A frown appears on Boydâs face as he stops by the door while Armando pushes his way by. He stops at the doorway where a blonde reaches for his shoulder to stop him.
From where they stand, he can see you sleeping on your side. Apple rind fallen from your fingertips, as a white as snow singular wing is arched up and out from your shoulder.
âThatâs new and I donât get out much.â The blonde whispers from Armandoâs left.
He folds his arms and turns to meet Boyd and Kristiâs eyes with raised brows.
âTold you so,â is written all over his face as he moved to step into the room but the blonde, who touched him again tries to get him not to move any further.
He looks at her hand and then at her face.
She suggests, âI think we should give her some space. Until sheâs alert and we see how she reacts, if itâs still out.â
âMarielleâs right, Thatâs not a bad idea.â Kristi observes.
Armando shrugs Marielleâs hand from him, âhow long has she been like that? She normally doesnât sleepâŠbecause she canât.â
âNot long.â Kristi tells as she glanced at Boyd whose face held complete stress, âMaybe we should get Kenny down here or even Sara?â
Boyd immediately shakes his head, âNo to Kenny. We donât need to bother him right now, we can handle it.â
âYou donât know that, sheriff.â Armando disagrees with a humorless laugh.
âWell, thanks for your load of fucking confidence, Armando.â
âIâm just saying.â Armando leans against the doorway, eyeing you again while crossing one leg over the other, âweâŠmainly her might have just changed the entire game.â
Boyd clenched his fist and stalked out of the clinic to swing at the air and let out a string of curse words.
Armando rolls his head to look at the two women who peer at the direction where the sheriff walked off too. It was so quiet over here that everyone heard his frustrations.
âIs he always like that? And heâs a sheriff? You might need to check his blood pressure.â Armando mentions while Marielle shakes her head at him and Kristi rolls her eyes.
âYouâre strangely calm about this, guy with the bloody hands. You should clean that up by the way.â Marielle says.
Armando unfolds his hands to look at the stains and moves into the main area in search of a sink. âSomeoneâs got to learn how to not lose their shit and I have a hunch that itâs not that many people around here.â
Kristi defends Boyd, âOkay Mr. Calm, weâll see how long that lasts once you see what the night brings.â
Armando gives a wicked smile to the two women as he shakes out his damp hands, âIâve seen plenty in my twenty-eight years and Iâve never been afraid of the dark.â
And with that he moves, despite Marielleâs protest, to sit right beside you, almost keeping guard of you this time around.
âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëââ§âș âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëââ§âș âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëââ§âș âșâ§âË àœàœČââ±âàœàŸ Ëââ§

When Your Best Friends Fuck
Eddie Diaz usually loved that his two best friends were dating. It was cool. They seemed so much happier with each other. Plus, it was much easier to get them both to come to something together if Eddie wanted one. Like a two-for-one friendship special.
And.
Well.
Usually, it was a good thing.
But, sometimes, it was Eddie walking into Buck's loft to find Tommy only in his turnout jacket.
Just.
Frozen in horror.
If.
If Eddie looked at Tommy at just the right angle.
He could.
He could see.
Nope.
Well, it was genuinely an impressive size, but -
Nope.
"Well," said Eddie, "This is new."
Tommy.
Looked more than a little mortified.
"Uh," said Tommy as he glanced between Eddie and the loft stairs, "I can explain."
"Nope. No, uh. No need to explain," said Eddie as he heard from upstairs.
He heard.
"Where's the fire?" called Buck, and, why was he in a turnout jacket too and -
Buck.
Ducked back into his bathroom the moment he saw Eddie, swearing before he yelled, "This is why I tell you to call before you come over now!"
And okay, maybe this was a little Eddie's fault, he should have called.
"Uh, just wanted to tell you in person that Christopher's going to be visiting this week," said Eddie, giving up on looking anywhere and just covering his eyes with his hands, "Felt like in-person news. I got excited. Sorry."
"No, that's - that's amazing!" said Tommy, and thank god Eddie could hear Tommy putting on pants, "That's great. I'd hug you. But I feel like I've traumatized you."
"Dios, like walking in on my parents," laughed Eddie as he hesitantly removed his hands from his eyes and - found Tommy in a shirt and boxers, "Okay, I'll hug you like that."
Tommy pulled Eddie in for a big bear hug.
"That's wonderful news," said Tommy, "Really."
"What news?" asked Buck as he scrambled downstairs in actual clothes, "What's the news?"
"Chris is visiting," said Tommy and - and Buck lit up.
"That's fantastic," said Buck as he joined in the hug, "I know you've been working so hard on yourself and building that trust back up - I'm sure he'll see that he can move back home during this visit."
"I hope so," said Eddie, and okay, it was kind of nice being surrounded like this by two people he called family; hugged by his best friends.
Okay.
It was worth coming in person to deliver that news.

Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 84 (Checking In On the Clinic - and Another Baby Boom??)
cw: it's not a Conther baby I'll just say that right now. Sorry!
On top of her responsibilities to her family, Heather worked hard to keep Buttercup Pet Clinic's great reputation, but life at work was rarely easy.
She'd recently noticed a dip in her ratings and was tech-savvy enough to realize she'd been targeted. She traced the IPs to an address connected to George Brindleton's old company and gave the evidence to Conrad.
"He's trying to hurt my business because he's still sore over losing his, but as long as he's not going after the kids, I can take whatever he wants to throw at me. My clients know how good we are."
Conrad remembered his threat to sniff around Brindleton & Sons old financial files, but with this evidence he had cause for something better. "We're filing a restraining order," he insisted. "For you and the kids, because next time he might try to do more than hire a bot farm to drag your reviews down. But if I have to stay away from him, too, I can't look into his finances, if it comes to it."
"Is a restraining order really necessary? What if it makes him more upset? I'll always let you know if I hear from him again, but I'd love to just forget we ever met him."
Conrad nodded apologetically. "It's necessary. He just needed to do something stupid like this before I could file for one. Just keep focused on your clinic. I've got my eye on George Brindleton."
Heather tried to increase the value of her clinic's furnishings, but she lacked a real aesthetic eye and now she also had marketing expenses. With every passing day she worked hard, and though sometimes it never seemed enough, George Brindleton wouldn't break her.
One cold winter morning, Kaori Hayashi, Heather's best vet tech, tended to local blacksmith Abby Harms' Australian Shepherd, Jax. As Heather finished with another patient, Spencer Pancakes surprised her old friend when she brought her dog, JJ, to the clinic.
It wasn't that she'd brought her pet, as she had so many times before, but Spencer sported a sizable baby bump, too.
"Spencer! I can't believe it! I thought the doctors said-"
"They were wrong!" (Mod conflicts! Sorta wrecks the surrogacy storyline but also whatever.) "Needless to say, we didn't expect it. We kept it to ourselves until Dr. Scott said we were healthy. We wanted to tell you!"
"Are you feeling okay about it? I know you didn't want a big family."
Spencer sighed. "Everett's thrilled. I had to move another work trip to Selvadorada, but I'm making the best of it. I took my mom's advice and started painting, and it's nice that Lydia and I are pregnant at the same time. Since it's her first and I need all the help I can get, we're kind of in it together. The pregnancy really does feel like a miracle, and Everett's an incredible father."
"Your boys have a great mom, too." Spencer offered a pitiful smile, and Heather remembered her last visit with Spencer's father-in-law. "Bob came in with one of his cats back in the fall and he mentioned he was worried about you. I kept meaning to call and plan a trip like he suggested, but life's been so busy, and...I didn't want to believe what he was saying, I guess. It didn't feel like any of my business."
(Quick for new readers, Heather doesn't want to intrude on their family because Jett is her biological son with Everett, conceived via science as Heather was their surrogate. She's tried to set a clear boundary to avoid any confusion for or about toddler Jett.)
Spencer nodded. "Bob means well. And I'm doing okay, really. The baby kicks all the time. Like right now. Here: feel. Since we moved back to Henford, it's been better. We haven't had any snow yet!"
"Don't remind me. I miss the mild winters in Henford, but Ash really loves the snow. It's great enjoying it through his eyes."
"The boys love living with my parents and running through the fields like we did. Everett's family comes around all the time, and he's happier at the parish in Henford. Oh! Would you believe that old fox, Pawbin Hood, is still alive?! He's still wearing the Sherwood Forest get up you bought from the creature keeper when we were fourteen!"
"I guess I'm not surprised; I swear, the foxes will outlive us all. Everett thinks they react differently to the wild mushrooms than sims do." Gently, she steered the conversation back to her friend. "And all of that sounds great for everybody else. But what about you, Spence?"
"On days I'm feeling overwhelmed, I'm just glad everyone's there to pick up the slack."
"What about work?"
"Paused for now, I guess. At this point I won't get back to Selvadorada until this one's out of diapers." She pointed to her bump. "But if you can get away, you should come with me next time I go. You're just as good at identifying artifacts, and you love exploring the jungle as much as I do."
"I would love that," Heather said, awash with nostalgia over their first trip to the jungle for Spencer's bachelorette. After their quick visit, she tended to JJ - who was fine other than a mild case of lava nose - and she sent them on their way with a refill of organic disinfectant spray to keep treating him.
Later that afternoon, Heather took a moment to relax and hydrate when she was met by another surprise visitor. The woman walked in heavily pregnant and disguised under a bandana and sunglasses, but Heather recognized her name from her digital sign-in sheet. "Emi Wise? You used to be Emi Kudo, didn't you? You were a vet tech here when I was in high school!"
Emi looked around to ensure she didn't recognize any other faces in the lobby. "I remember you and your parents," she admitted. "When I used VetConnect to find a clinic to help my Olive, I realized Sorrel Jackson sold you this place. I like the rebrand, and I liked it even better when I saw you got away from Landgraab Corp. I think you might be the only vet in Simlandia who can help us. That's the only reason I risked coming back here."
As Heather healed Olive in an exam room, Emi noted the place hadn't changed much since she'd worked there. "You've rebranded, and you should really invest in a whole new look. My husband's an architect, and I think he could design something incredible. When Olive has to come back for her follow-up appointment, I'll bring him with me so he can get a look at the place, if you want."
"That sounds great, actually. I'm always looking for ways to really spruce this place up!"
Heather called Conrad to set one more plate at the table for dinner before she invited Emi to her home next door. Grateful for Heather's hospitality so she and Olive could rest a little before their long journey home, Emi opened up about her life in the years since she'd left Brindleton Bay in such a hurry.
"I had an affair with a married man, and he chose his wife, of course. I was so young and naive. I had no idea what to do, but I knew I couldn't stay. So I bought a one-way plane ticket to Evergreen Valley because it felt far enough away from here. I met a man and fell in love a month after I got to town, and he raised the twins like they were his own from the day they were born. We had a son together, and this one will be a girl."
"It sounds to me like everything worked out for the best. You don't have to tell me who the father is, but there are rumours around town."
(Basically, it's a good thing Kaori finished up with Jax and Mrs. Harms before Emi and Olive showed up!)
Emi's face went white. "Please don't tell him or his wife I was here. I promised I wouldn't ever ask for a thing for the boys, but if they see me here they might think I want to cause trouble."
"Your secret's safe with me," Heather promised.
True to her word, Emi brought her husband Layne for Olive's follow up, and he and Heather spoke about plans to revamp the clinic completely - a total rebuild, with class, elegance, and in keeping with Brindleton Bay's coastal charms.
Buttercup Pet Clinic was a place where people felt comfortable being open and vulnerable, and Heather heard her fair share of gossip inside the clinic walls. She was becoming something of a neighbourhood confidante, and took it seriously when people trusted her with their problems. With this in mind, Layne offered to add a small cafe - a relaxed gathering place for owners to wait for their pets and sip coffee. Heather was excited, and couldn't wait for spring to get started on construction.
As a bonafide Friend of the Animals, Heather was pretty great with her human friends, too. And she wanted her clinic to reflect that. ->
<- Previous Chapter | Gen 2 Start | Gen 1 Summary | Gen 1 Start
NOTE: So my game had ANOTHER baby boom but now I think I'm maxed and need some elders to expire before more nooboos will generate randomly. That said, in addition to Emi and her husband (Layne Wise originally known as Leoric Weild), Everett & Spencer, and Lydia & Alexander, River and Cassandra are expecting again, too! That's two more grandkids for Bella!
I checked on the Gen 1 Nesbitt household, where River and Cassandra live with Neal, Daisy, and their son Michael (plus dog Bernadette and cat Duchess) and pregnant Cass got on an autonomous video call with her mom. đ„°
NOTE 2: It's been on my list to get Heather and Spencer back to Selvadorada for almost a decade (in game!). I'm trying to complete the Jungle Explorer aspiration with Spencer, but there really has not been a good time as they both have small kids or keep getting pregnant. The aspiration isn't a requirement for this generation and more a bonus goal for me, but I really want to do it so stay tuned!
Heather's had Adventurous as a bonus trait since they went on their first trip together, and ever since then she's just been able to use it for wild woohoo and being eager and excited about the Ambrosia Society's challenge, whereas Conrad was a lot more cautious (about the latter - the wild woohoo doesn't trouble him at all!)
NOTE 3: As always, I thank @rinseesims for adding the iconic Leoric Weild from her iconic UDC to the Sims 4 gallery because he makes a great dad/architect in this universe!

Hiiiii so if u do requests can u pls do one where like reader is judeâs gf but jobe has like a little crush on her and jude can feel it and like when they all hangout jobe is all over her and jude gets a lik jelly pleassseeeeđđ«¶đ»
WC: 1.7k Living in Madrid is amazing it's warm and the city is filled with so many amazing people but nothing beats being back home. Moving to Madrid with my boyfriend Jude was a big decision to make but after a lot of thinking and talks with my family I decided to just do it. It's been one of the best decisions I've ever made I found a job I really enjoy that is also flexible so it allows me to travel with Jude to some of his away games. I've also made some great friends with not only the other Real Madrid players but also their partners who have been really welcoming. As much as it's been a great few months here I've been looking forward to getting to go home for a few days ever since I found out Jude had a small break between games. We won't be back long but while we are there we are going to stay with Jude's parents and mine are going to visit at some point so we can all see each other before our normal lives resume.Â
Jude being the ever sensible person he is decided that we needed to get the first flight we could physically make which happened to be just after his last game before the break. This meant we had to pack once we got up and have everything in the car ready to go straight to the airport after the end of the game. It was highly stressful but as soon as the plane touched down on home soil all that stress melted away and the tiredness kicked in too. Jude's parents were there to meet us both at the airport despite it being late which was much appreciated. On the relatively short drive back to their house Jude wouldn't stop talking about what life has been like and the last game even though his parents will already know everything that's happened. While he was talking away I just rested my head on his shoulder starting to really feel the tiredness of getting up early and not sleeping on the plane.Â
As soon as we arrived Jobe was quick to meet us at the door I was expecting him to greet Jude first seeing as they are brothers and they have always been really close but instead he came straight over to me to give me a hug. It's not exactly out of the ordinary as Jobe and I get on well and he saw Jude more recently at an event they both went to that I couldn't attend so I guess it makes sense for him to be excited to see me. Despite my attempts to have a small nap in the car I was still really tired so I just hugged Jobe back until he pulled away to finally greet his brother with less enthusiasm it seemed.Â
"How have you been y/n?" Jobe askedÂ
"I've been good life is amazing in Madrid but it's good to be home" I said
"Well I'm glad you're back I missed you" he saidÂ
"Aww thanks Jobe that's sweet" I saidÂ
"You know I'm here too right" Jude interrupted clearly a little agitatedÂ
I don't know what was going on but there seemed to be a bit of tension between the two of them but it was far too late for me to worry about it too much. It's quite possible that they had an argument at some point and now they are just trying to annoy each other as thats happens quite a lot and sometimes I end up in the middle of their fights. After saying goodnight to everyone I grabbed Jude's hand to lead him up to bed but I could see him giving Jobe almost a death stare out the corner of my eye. Hopefully they sort out whatever's going on between them as I don't want to be dealing with their probably stupid argument in the few days we have back home.Â
~~~~~~~~~~
Waking up this morning all the tension from last night seemed to have disappeared Jude woke up with a smile on his face which stayed even when Jobe came downstairs and sat right next to me on the sofa. Today we didn't have anything planned as we weren't exactly sure what time we would get here and how tired we would be but seeing as both of us were quite well rested we decided to spend the day going out around the town and the places we used to go all the time when still living here. Jobe wanted to tag along as he didn't have training and to try and keep the peace I said he could join us but I promised Jude we would spend the evening together just us.Â
After having some breakfast we all got ready, somehow I was the first one ready so I had to wait downstairs but I was joined by Jobe not long after. As he sat down he put his hand on my knee for a few seconds before taking it off and resting it in his lap. He's never done that before but I assume he just misjudged where to put his hand and that it was an accident. He then went on to ask me how things have been in Madrid and if Jude has been treating me right which felt like a weird question but I just want to enjoy my few days back home so I let it slide. Thankfully Jude came down not too long after so I used that as my chance to get away from the awkward conversation without making a scene.Â
Jude wanted to just walk around the town so that's what we did. Luckily it wasn't too busy sure people took pictures and stopped us but it wasn't as bad as it has been in Madrid recently we can't move when we go out over there now. While Jude was taking pictures with a group of fans I stood out the way with Jobe as I don't like to be in the pictures unless I'm asked. While we were stood to the side Jobe tried to be slick and slide his arm over my shoulders but I saw it coming a mile away and moved a bit to the side to avoid it. I really wanted to say something as this isn't like Jobe but I won't do it while in public as I don't want to start an argument and create a scandal for Jude. We walked for a bit longer before deciding to find somewhere to have lunch and hey again Jobe was acting weird as he wanted to sit next to me but Jude took that seat before he got the chance. The entire time we were eating he was just staring at me which made me a little uncomfortable but by this point Jude had caught on to what was going on and he made sure to be as close to me as possible and whenever he got the chance he kissed my cheek.Â
The rest of our day out was just as awkward as the morning Jude was trying to make it clear that I was his by constantly having his arm around my waist and giving me kisses all while Jobe was still trying to get me attention. I felt like an object the way they were almost competing over me and using me to prove a point to one another. Jude wasn't being affectionate because he felt like it he wanted to assert dominance and prove that I'm his which just infuriated me as I can stand up for myself. Jobe was also getting on my last nerve he knows that I'm with his brother and have been for a long time now, we are happy together and even if we were to break up I would certainly not go for Jude's brother that's just wrong. While we were out I kept my cool but as soon as we got back I just stood by the door looking at them both trying not to let my anger completely take over.Â
"Ok what is going on with you both today?" I askedÂ
"Nothing" Jude repliedÂ
"Something is going on and I don't like it Jobe you're acting like you can just flirt with me and touch me whenever you like which you can't and Jude you're treating me like your possession not a human being let alone your girlfriend so someone explain what's going on" I rantedÂ
"I'm sorry baby I don't mean to treat you like that I just didn't like what Jobe was doing and I wanted to show him you were mine" Jude explainedÂ
"Jobe why have you been trying to put your hands on my girlfriend?" Jude askedÂ
"I haven't been" he tried to defend himselfÂ
The two of them just started arguing after that so I decided to just walk away I said what I wanted to say I don't need to watch them argue. I'd only just made it out the room when I hear Jobe admit that he had a crush on me. As anyone could predict that statement didn't go down too well Jude only got more angry with Jobe swearing and yelling even more than before. My relaxing trip back home has long gone, at this point I just want to leave without someone killing each other. Just as I was about to step in Jude told Jobe that he just had to get over it and came to find me dragging me upstairs with him.Â
Jude was very much still annoyed but once we got to his room he pulled me down onto the bed with him at let out a frustrated sigh. He clearly needed to let off some steam so I just let him rant about the situation for a good 5 minutes before he calmed down and apologised for how today went. I wanted to be mad but I just couldn't it's hard to stay mad at him for too long instead I just wanted to have the quiet evening that I promised him earlier which will ideally be just the two of us in bed watching movies and eating lots of food. Nothing sounds better than relaxing and forgetting about the events of the day because today is definitely not a day to remember.Â
hii wifey!!! okay it's currently super late where i am right now and i can't sleep đ but ever since my post on @dirty-little-mind33 i- i haven't been able to stop thinking of dbf!tangerine đ«
like like JDJSJDDJHFFJ
it's giving your dad's hired hitman and they're friends or whatever (don't ask for the specifics, I'm half asleep) and he takes a liking to you and he treats you like a princess FR
keeps you in check so you stay out of trouble, little touches, "love", "princess", "sweetness", "SWEET GIRL" ANRJRNENDN like it's giving the same vibes as bodyguard!tan.
can just imagine him sitting in an armchair of your living room, legs spread bc he's a man and it's sometimes super hot (don't sue me), and he asks you for a lighter and so you hand him one and he blows smoke in your face as he thanks you and calls you his good girl đ„”
okay sorryyyyyyyyyy this is so long i just needed to share and hear your thoughts đ«¶
on another note, dbf!logan is also sooo hot but that's for another ask đ
my wife!! hi wifey! so this will be like im talking to you directly, like im typing everything my brain is thinking in real time. it makes it personal and intimate, I love it. enjoy đđđđ(also sorry only just got round to this)
no bc youâre so onto something EURRRGGHHHH!!!!
and like okay right so! heâs been working for your dad for a few years and bc itâs only been a few years heâs not known you long (meaning he didnât see you grow up etc bc thatâll beđđ€ź) and like when you visit ur parents or idk you live with them (pick what you fancy) you see him at the dining table with your dad and got all the papers out and laptops etc and theyâre chatting about work stuff/ plan
idea time. you go past them and into the kitchen and your dad is none the wiser looking at the papers and maybe questioning the prices but tans looking at you in the kitchen. and tans like âdo us a couple teas would ya darlingâ (ew tan, why would you say that? have you no respect? no shame?) and heâs being all cheeky bc of the darling. but your dad doesnât think anything of it, like itâs a common petname kinda thing. and it makes your ears prick and turn to look at him and heâs all smug????? and nodding at you????
this is really getting away from me but im not done, youâve got me going đđđ
tan definitely tests the waters, pushes the boat out LOADS. like heâs so teasing and cheeky in how he does it. def touches your back when ur dads in the same room, looks at you during dinners, sits opposite you during said dinners and touches you with his foot (but not in an gross way bc feet are disgusting) or sits beside you during said dinners and spreads his legs so his thigh bumps yours AND AHHAAHHAGAHA OMG THIS IS KILLING ME has his elbows wide on the table so he takes up more space and feels your arm up with his
and if youâre in the garden after dinner getting some air bc of what happened at the table. heâd come out and join you. but not properly. you might be at the end of the garden sitting at the patio table or something and heâs on the steps by the back door having a fag. like heâs keeping an eye on you but not making it obvious for your family inside
heâs also always offering lifts! so like if you donât have a car or itâs in the shop or idk blah blah you ask your dad for a lift and tans there and he offers to drive you. and youâre like âno itâs fineâ bc sitting in a car with him will make you like idk but like yk GO CRAZY. and tans all like âitâs no fuss. gotta pick something up that way anywayâ and your dad is still oblivious so heâs agreeing to it like âtanâll take youâ and tan grabs his keys and heâs nodding you along like (okay donât hate me for this. I donât have a daddy kink but this idea is sending me and I need to say it) heâs all like âwhat daddy said goesâ đ«đđ«đđ« đđđđđ±đ°đ«Łđ€đ€AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASAAAAAHHHH!!! and it has a double meaning!!!!!!!!!!!! bc he means your dad but also him!!!!!!! and the âtake youâ bit!!!!! he also means that heâll take you. like fuck you. so itâs all a huge double entendre
GOD THIS IS KILLING ME!!!!!!!!! making me wanna do something with dbf tan now
but heâs such a gentleman about it. like heâs teasing and smug and cocky but heâs still very charming and charismatic about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and when he drops you off heâs looking at your ass getting out and then opens the window to talk to you through the car and heâs like âcall me if you need meâ
and youâre like âwhy would I call you?â like shouldnât he be saying to call your dad????
and heâs all like âyou know whyâ
and youâre like âhuh?â looking at him all weird
AND YHEN HE SAYS âhe donât pay attention to you like I doâ GOOD DUCKING GOD SJJABSJDBS
im gonna have to stop there bc I know I never will. plus I have rice cooking and the timer went off 5 mins ago so I really gotta runđđđđ
but youâre so right about him being the same as bodyguard tangerine!!!
Halo!! Can I request a yuken x sachios's bestfriend? Where yuken really likes the reader and tries to make her notice but the reader is oblivious, so yuken had enough and confessed to her! Thank youu!! I love your works so much! âĄâĄ
a/n: hi!!! thank you for requesting! this was spontaneous and i hope you like it! and also thank you so much for loving my works, that means a lot!â€ïž
âââ
[11:23am]
ât/w: kissing, harsh words
to have a complete, supportive, and rich family is a biggest blessing, you always thought. and that is not something you're blessed with.
luckily for you, god have sent sachio as your best friend as a redemption to it.
you met him in middle school as a classmate until one day you helped a little girl crying on the side of the road who turns out to be his sister, you two become a best friend.
you know from the deepest part of your heart, he's one of the people that you're going to keep forever. he's just too good to be true as a best friendâor even as a human in general. you won't forget that day when he offered you to live in his big big house because your work is nearer from his place than yours. so that you can walk everyday and save up more money to give to your parents.
little did you know, he also feel very grateful to have you as his people. you know who he is and never be judgmental about it even though you never understand a bit. he is the reserved type of person yet so many burden on his shoulder and you never hesitate to lend yours whenever he needed without adding more pressure to him.
both of you just so thankful to have each other and always keep things below the limit so the relationship is stable to say at least.
living in his house is such a grace because the amount of working maid here is enough to make you only minding your own business. and that time when his friends visiting is the only time you were out of your room because the maids won't complain when you're helping at this particular moment. at least, you have to serve the guests, right?
the more you socialize with them, the more they feel like a friend to you too. especially that one friend, who visit more frequent lately, yuken. like you know him enough to say that he is a good guy although his cocky attitude often inviting an eye roll from you. but seriously though, they usually come in a horde, but why this odajima yuken come by himself for two weeks in a row now?
âis there a problem?â you ask bluntly as you put a welcome drink on to the table.
yuken staring at you for a few seconds before taking the drink calmly. the eye contact lingers.
âyes.â
âreally? but sachio haven't home since yesterday. is that something serious?â
âyou sounds like his mom.â he chuckled.
âno, i'm not.â
âyes, you are.â
you frowned. his tone shouldn't be sounds so playful in such a precarious situation, right?
âyou better call him, yuken.â
âi can take care myself.â
âhuh? then go? why are you still here?â
âdid you just throw me out? this isn't even your house tho?â
ouch.
he is always like this. annoying, cocky, even flirty, and overall a menace. you still trying to get used to it as his attractiveness keep making you forgetting it. you do admit he is damn attractiveâlike, annoyingly attractive.
you inhaled deeply before got up. âjust call sachio. i'm sorry i can't be here with you now, need to take care a couple thing,â
he rests his back on the sofa. heart thumping like crazy contrary with his demeanor and smirk on his lips.
âthe problem is here, sweetheart.â
oh, you wonder does he always did this to other people? this is not the first time you heard this from him but you aren't familiar with pet names so it is always make you feel something.
âwhat do you mean? am i the problem?â
âyou are.â
huh?
âi heard you doing an amazing job at work,â he scoffs. âbut why not this one?â
you came back to the sofa and sat closer to him this time. confusion and anger etched across your forehead. âwhat are you trying to say?â
âdid you receive the daisies? the coffees? the bento? theââ
âwait what?â
yuken let out a soft giggle seeing your face processing everything these past few weeks.
âso those were for me?â
âwho else?â
âandâFROM YOU?â
âwho else?â
âoh.â
shame on you, girl. really. you thought it was for the company by using your name as the receiver. so you gave most of them to your co-worker.
âis it enough for me to call you stupid?â yuken grins while take your chin up to met his eye.
you really want to punch the shit out of him but that is just your cheap way to get away from this embarrassing situation and that's not nice at all.
you sighed and trying to back away but his fingers was faster to catch you up, no other option for you except to move closer, making his face is just inches away from yours.
âyukenââ
âshhh. i don't think you got the point, blossom.â his thumb caresses your cheek like it's the only thing they do. feels so familiar and comforting.
but shit. what is he talking about?
âhuh?â you murmur while your eyes wandering his face like the answer is hidden there. the second your eyes laid on his forehead, you catch a small dried leaf hanging on his hair, causing your hand to reach for it in a blink.
âwhere were youâwhy is it so dirty?â you said absentmindedly.
yuken stared intently before laugh it off to hide the racing blood inside him. he put his head on your shoulder while still laughing and now your blood turn to race to your cheeks while feeling his warm breath fanning your neck.
your body freeze as realizing this is the closest distance you ever get with yukenâeven a guy. you do lend each other shoulder with sachio sometimes. but not in this face-to-face position even after he grabbed your chin twice. this is too intimate and you can barely breath.
âw-why are you laughing?â
âare you always this oblivious? like are you trapped into a spell or something?â
âi'm notââ
âi think i know why,â he adjust his position and take your hand in his. âi only do this to you, stupid. do you think it's such a habit for me to send everyone those things at work? no, right? do you see me as someone like that?â
you shook your head.
âthat's right. so what is the reason?â he waits to let you think, to stop denying the thoughts you have in mind since almost two months ago, to stop feeling afraid of affection you may receive, to stop arguing with the voice in your head.
your grip in his hand got tighter as you found honesty and sincerity in his eyes that don't usually sparkling.
you nod twice. âi just stopped denying.â you say innocently and yuken can't help but ruffled your hair.
âah, how cute.â he chuckling.
âbut is it trueâi mean, why? how?â
he clears his throat shakily. âit is true. i just can't resist everything i feel for you these past few months. the more i see you whenever i'm here makes it harder everytime to go without stealing you with me. you're just⊠i don't know. i like everything in you.â
you watch his lips move effortlessly for every word he said. he was just being spontaneous and you can see that. it was still genuine though, you can feel it. it is the first time you see him on his nerves while shaking subtly.
âthank you.â you say.
his eyebrow rise in unison. âwhat do you mean by thank you?â
âfor everything you feel about me and everything you gave? it's moreââ
âand?â he cuts, impatient.
âyou don't accept rejection, do you?â you laugh.
âyou're right, i don't. it's the first time i feel this kind of feeling and emotionâi even let those bald jerks making fun of me when i comeââ
you decided to shut his ramble with your own mouth. it was just a peck but then his hand placed on your nape to pull you closer. he tilt his head for a better access and his lips hugging yours just perfect. your hands squeezing his shoulder as the heat escalated in your body. a knot forming in your stomach when he refused to pull away.
âi-i can't breath.â you say when you finally manage to broke the kiss and both of your forehead still stick together.
heâs breathing heavily, eyes still glued on you. âdoes that mean we areâŠ?â
âyes.â you say confidently. succeed to let your first guard down. âwe're dating.â you cringed a bit.
a mischievous smile appear in his lips. âoh? i was about to ask you are we going to get married?â
âhuh?â
âhuh?â
âyuken, are you serious?â
âno.â he grins. you were ready to throw hands but he held it back first then closing the gap between you again. he even take off his glasses this time.
âyou know why sachio not here since yesterday?â
âno.â
âbecause i told him not to.â
you gasp. âhow dare you?â
âhe even advised his sister to stay at her friend's house today.â oh, that cocky tone again. âguess i'm the boss now. thanks to you.â
âgod, so they know?â
âeveryone are already know about my feelings, silly. you were the only one who oblivious.â
âoh? i'm sorry. let me make it up.â
âhow?â
âis this enough?â you kiss him again and pull away a few second later, deciding to let your mischief side arise since you were also wanting to do that for a long time now.
âno.â he kisses you, deeper this time.
âyuken, that's enough.â sachio's low voice echoed causing you to push away your-new-boyfriend and his back meet the end of the sofa roughly.
yuken squeaks loudly. âfuck you sachio. i just got abused in the first ten minutes of my relationship.â
As a romantic, sentimental shit, I decided to add a little spin off to the Moving In series.
While I'm not a huge fan of Christmas, Christmas Eve always felt really special to me. Christmas Eve traditions in our family have changed a lot over the years but I'm really excited to start my own! I've been trying to imagine what my perfect Christmas Eve would be like next year and it'd be pretty damn close to this.
If you celebrate it, have a lovely Christmas tomorrow! If you don't, I hope you have a wonderful day!
There's no way to keep the cat off the twinkling fairy lights on the tree. You've tried every trick the internet could offer but nothing stops her; except her own sleepiness.
After a long afternoon fighting the lights (and losing), she's curled up in the armchair, peacefully sleeping.
The tree is safe.
For now.
"Your fluffy murderer is asleep." Bucky hums contentedly, pulling you impossibly closer to him on the sofa.
"Good." It's about time. Even the TV playing Olaf's Frozen Adventure doesn't seem to be disturbing her and she loves that movie.
You're surprised the heat hasn't knocked Bucky out yet. Between your body heat, the matching pyjamas you're both wearing and the glowing embers of the fire, you're surprised he's not asleep too.
"What's Santa bringing tomorrow?" Bucky teases, running his hand from your hip to your waist, slipping his hand under you top and letting it rest there.
"I don't know! Hopefully the stand mixer I asked for... Maybe some baking supplies... Some cat treats maybe." You smile at the thought and feel Bucky laughing against your back.
"That cat of yours has not made it onto the Nice List, sweetheart. No chance. Santa won't be visiting her." His lips are curled into a smile as they drift from your collar, up the back of your neck.
"She's been good the rest of the year. She's only been naughty since I put the tree up." You feel like you have to protest on her behalf, even though you know Santa will be bringing her plenty of cat treats.
"So there's hope for you too then if that's how Santa works. If he excuses short bursts of naughtiness, you might still make it." His hand trails its way back to your hip, slipping just under the waistband of your pyjama shorts.
"I've been good this year and you know it!" You tease, pressing your ass back against him.
"Oh see no, this is naughty." Bucky corrects you, kissing your neck with a little more pressure.
"I don't think so. You seem to like it so this is me being nice." You wiggle your ass against the front of his pyjamas, enjoying the evidence of his interest.
"Don't argue sweetheart, that'll put you firmly on the Naughty List." He knows you hate reasoning like that.
"Well, if you've been so good this year, what's Santa bringing you?"
There's a short pause but the kissing over your neck doesn't stop.
"I don't know... I don't need anything." He didn't ask you for anything for that same reason. "I have everything I need here."
"That's gross. Grow up." You know he can't see the way that made you smile so you're free to affectionately bully him for saying it.
"You're so right." He laughs, somehow shuffling even closer to you.
"I'm sure if I got down on my hands and knees in front of the tree and looked right in at the back, I could find a gift with your name on it." You go back to rubbing your ass against his crotch, tempting him to escalate.
"Sweetheart, that view alone would be enough of a gift." He's got a special way of making you feel like a temptation, without ever objectifying you. God, he's wonderful. "But I want to see that pretty face. I want to lay you down under your tree and unwrap my gift properly."
"Unwrapping your gift early will put you on the Naughty List!" You try to feign disgust at the very suggestion but really, that's all you want.
"Then I'll be the happiest man on the damn Naughty List this year." He laughs, scooping you up and laying you down on the plush carpet.
"You're more of a terror than the cat." You giggle before his lips are pressed to yours, kissing you with an intensity you really quite enjoy. His tongue slips past your lips, rubbing against your own and it's almost dizzying to start so intensely.
Your fingertips dig into his broad, muscular back and shoulders. It's easy to let need cloud your brain and he doesn't seem to mind as he sheds his pyjama top.
"We aren't matching anymore." You smile, reaching for the bottom of your own top, pulling it off in one swift motion.
"Excuse me. You're unwrapping my present for me." Bucky pretends to be horrified but your decision has its perks. He's now got full access to your breasts and it's like Christmas came early for him.
He wastes no time, sucking and kissing and licking your breasts. His tongue flicks over your stiff nipples, enjoying the way the sensation makes you squeal and writhe under his mouth.
"Bucky... Please." You whine after a while, desperate for him to move on.
"Someone's needy." Bucky smiles, raising an eyebrow before he reaches down to remove the bottom half of your pyjama set.
Fuck, he's not wrong. His fingertips trail against your sex, checking to see whether you're as aroused as you sound and he's almost surprised to find you are.
"God, you're so wet. I'm going to make this pretty little pussy gush for me." He slips a thick finger into you, followed by a second and he's thrilled to realise you'll be able to take him already. He can take the edge off for you now and then take his sweet time licking his own load out of your fluttering cunt once he's given you what you need.
"Please." You whimper, noticing he's offered you nothing awfully useful. He hasn't curled his fingers to stroke your walls, he hasn't moved at all actually.
"I wanted to take my time with you." Bucky begins, removing his fingers and taking off his pyjama bottoms. "But that's not what you want right now, is it?"
You shake your head, giving in to your own desperation freely, knowing he'd want you to be honest.
"That's okay, sweetheart. Let's take good care of you." The residual heat of the fire warms your bare skin as Bucky arranges your thighs, settling himself between your legs.
"Good girl." Bucky hums, dragging his thick, bare cock through the evidence of your arousal, coating himself in the slick mess between your legs. "So pretty for me."
He watches the way your body accommodates him so willingly and your whines remind him not to keep you waiting.
His thick, leaking tip presses to your entrance and the feeling of him sliding into you is breathtaking. It always is.
Both of you stop breathing for a few short seconds until he's slid the whole way home, buried as deep inside you as your bodies will allow.
"Hey, look at me." Bucky whispers, holding the side of your face gently with one hand, making you realise you'd closed your eyes.
"You're so beautiful, you know that?" He begins to pull back slowly before pressing back in, setting a slow rhythm.
If feels wrong not to tell him the same. It's wrong not to tell him how wonderful you think he is. It's not fair to let the moment pass without mentioning that you love getting to do this with him and be vulnerable but still feel safe. You love having him in your space and spending time together and getting to enjoy these tender, intimate moments at the most random of times. But those aren't thoughts for now. Those are thoughts for when you're both fully satisfied and cuddling together, breathless and tired and entirely aglow on this same carpet later this evening.
That feels right.
"You are the most incredible man I've ever met." You reply instead, tugging gently on his soft, dark hair to pull him into a kiss.
You hear him groan against your lips, offering the same intensity as before. He speeds up his thrusts to match his mouth, sliding in and out of you with purpose and a delightful need to spill his release into you as he's coaxing yours from you.
"Play with yourself." His instruction is clear and driven by his own need. He needs to feel you cum before he can allow himself to do the same and his orgasm really seems to have snuck up on him.
Your hand slips between your bodies with a practiced ease, finding the little bundle of nerves between your legs, rubbing it in tight circles.
"Good girl. Fuck, I wish you knew how you feel. So wet and soft and warm." He hasn't taken his eyes off your face and that only lets you see how pleasure is evident all over his. He's almost overwhelmed and it's so lovely to watch.
"Fuck, I'm so close." You whine, begging him not to change a single thing. Not his pace, not his angle, nothing. This is perfect.
"Cum for me, sweetheart. Go ahead, I'm right behind you. I've got you."
The release is all consuming for a good few seconds, your body fluttering and twitching, milking Bucky's from him and he so willingly gives it to you. He groans gentle praises as he works both of you through your highs, taking every ounce of pleasure he can get from you while giving you as much as possible.
When your peak and his have both subsided, he slips out of you, giving himself a second to catch his breath.
"If you weren't on the Naughty List before, you definitely are now." You giggle, kissing his forehead repeatedly.
"I'm just getting started." He smiles, kissing your lips before moving down your body to kiss between your thighs.
