Results and Going Forward

The winning results of the poll was that this blog will schedule the remaining holiday based questions to post around and on the holidays they were designed for (halloween/fall, new years/xmas, Valentine's). 'Around' means some questions that were made to build up to the holidays (examples: new years eve party celebrations, and then a question made for the day after specifically).

Interspersed between these will be randomly scheduled messages of remaining non-holiday questions, but 'daily' questions will not be happening outside of those. These are variations of existing questions that I hadn't gotten around to posting yet.

I'll be updating the 'About' and pinned post messages as this continues. Once all the questions post, I will have a final post go out to make it clear no more questions will be coming out and make that the new pinned. This blog will become an archive at that point on, free to reblog questions from still.

All of this will take some time to implement.

So! Now for more sentimental words and more. I'll put it under a cut just to separate the needed info from my sappiness.

I don't have a hateful letter to this fandom in regards to this blog. All of you have been consistently polite, kind, and fun to see your responses to these questions. I'm not sure what may have been the general consensus with why this blog popped up, but the reason why I started it was because these are questions we use in my ikemen server. We have a bot there that we load up with questions and scenarios to post, and we originally began doing so to help shy people in the server be able to have some sort of 'excuse' to start rambling about their faves without having to join/start a conversation themselves.

And after we've had that bot for a few years, I thought that maybe people in here would enjoy that 'excuse' to ramble without the fear of having their responses responded to by me, that it was just something they could share on their blog or reply to and lovingly yap about their fave for just a bit. So I took the questions we had and started this blog to see if the questions could encourage people to do so, and that it did!! Over nearly a year, we gathered 154 followers, and that doesn't include whoever just answered the questions when they stumbled upon them. That's so many more than I expected!!! And each of you have been kind and sweet. Reading your responses typically ended up making me chuckle or, for more serious sounding ones, nod along. I really hope I've been able to bring some small joys with this blog, since you guys inadvertently did so for me with your responses!

So, I guess the question today is why would I stop doing it when it's been a happy time for everyone included? Well! Simply put, I am busy. Outside of this blog, I have my writing blog, my ikemen server, the letters blog and server. I have my 40hr a week job, I have friends and family that have been in various states of health or struggles in the past year (that impacted me more than I thought), and more stuff that I do. While this blog was fine when I had a lot of questions, once I started running out of normal ones and had to come up with more, I realized this slowly was becoming a chore of sorts. I disliked how it turned into me feeling stressed trying to make new questions because I misjudged how much of a sharp turn IRL and other fandom fun would take. And as much as I love trying to do something nice, I don't want to do it at the expense of extremely limited leisure time and accidentally turning fandom into a chore for myself. It's only me working on this blog, sans the kind people who submitted some questions in the past, so out of all the things I currently do, this blog was the one that could be 'ended' so I could help myself.

Which. I am bummed about, haha! I truly wanted to make it a full year, March 6th, before pulling the plug. I feel guilty, but I can't let something fun turn into something more negative. I want to leave the blog on a way better note than that.

I will say this: If anyone would like to make a blog of your own that does daily questions regarding these games - please feel free to! This idea was inspired by those 'comfort imagines' accounts, so it's not an original concept. (I just may peek over from time to time to use some questions for fodder for my server qs, and hopefully that will be alright.)

Thanks for the tag, @tea-understands :) Thankfully I have a small handful of folks who ask me about such things but I do love these memes.

 1: what are you currently working on? 

The Big Boy Fic! The finale of Earth-197320, which I'm 99% certain I am calling Above the Shadows. And I'll have a fun update on Write Every Day June in a couple days.

2: summarize your current project 

It's the fifth and final fic in a series that I started 4 years ago from an anonymous prompt sent to @amethyst-noir. I really clicked with it and she gave me her blessing to pursue it as a full-fledged fic, and here we are today.

Here's my first stab at a proper summary that I wrote for this questionnaire (tell me what you think y'all??):

2019 starts off in crisis-mode as rifts within the borders of reality begin spiraling out of control, drawing the resources of the Masters of the Mystic Arts thin. Tony now juggles the problems of a suddenly-absent Stephen, keeping his work with the sorcerers a secret, and Pepper's uncertain future. Stephen does what he can to maintain the stability of reality while keeping the promises he made. And somewhere out there, the other Stephen Strange is still hiding, putting his own plans into play.

3: summarize your current project poorly 

An author split up what should have been a single work into five separate stories because she wanted to fulfill Bingo cards in 2019, leading to a series that the readers are probably going to need to reread because there's so much detail in Fic 5 that calls back to stuff that happened in Fics 1-4. Fics 1-3 match the length of Fic 4, and Fic 5 is well over the length of Fics 1-4 combined, making for even poorer fic splitting choices. Whoops.

4: describe your favorite character or characters

I mean. Do I really need to? If you're on my blog you know who my faves are.

I guess quick summary as they are in the series in particular:

Stephen Strange: Has an enormous guilt complex that he's been working through a lot. He got better with the help of new friends. His work has endeared them to him quite a bit.

Wong: Has taken a leadership role, but not the title of Sorcerer Supreme for reasons not yet established to the readers. Carries his own secrets. Excellent poker face, but not emotionless.

Tony Stark: Has been blatantly ignoring the Accords ever since he went against Ross's back to find Steve in Siberia and has been continuing that trend since. Seeing the feds turn their eyes on Peter changed his opinion quite strongly. The Steve Issue is still difficult.

Other Strange: He thinks the Avengers and Masters of the Mystic Arts have failed their duties and that he can protect all of reality by himself. He just needs more power.

5: post a line from your current project without any context 

Closed my eyes and scrolled and went to a random page. This is what came up.

Oh, Jesus Christ. This explained so much about the man.

6: how do you get through writers block?

If it's not something health-related which just makes it physically very hard to work on items, I'll switch projects with my shorter fics. For a long fic like this, I'll put on a sprint and just power through 15 minutes at a time to get the harder bits out.

For health-related stuff (including mental), you sometimes just need to work on that first before you can be in the right space to write.

7: would you want to live in the world of your current work? 

Hell no. Superhero worlds are terrible for normal people.

8: briefly discuss your outlining process, if you outline 

I write an outline with the main beats of what I want in that chapter. Then when I get to the actual chapter, I'll sometimes expand the outline with more detail in that chapter section itself. I often go back to the main outline and add new things as I come up with them, or switch around elements in the story to a new chapter. This is how the planned outline has grown from around 12 normal chapters and 1 interlude chapter to 18 normal chapters and 2 interlude chapters (with potential for more growth seeing as I'm getting into some areas that have original outlining that I no longer am certain I want to use as they were ideas from over 2 years ago and the story's evolved a lot since then).

9: what is the aesthetic of your current project?

So much plot. Rewriting a lot of the end of phase 3 to push my Found Family agenda. Fix it vibes, but I think it's a natural fix it arc from the canon drama that could have happened in canon if the Russos gave a damn. A lot of character exploration into their own separate journeys and growth arcs. Pretty accurate on Marvel tones with action, drama, a bit of snark and humor. An itty bitty dash of canon romance but we all know I'm including it only because it needs to be there due to the plot and character arc reasons and not because I'm all googly-eyed for the genre.

10: what song sums up your current work the best?

Each chapter in the series takes a song lyric from a specific song and I identify that song with the story pretty heavily. For instance, Illuminating the Shadows took "The Light" from Disturbed.

For Above the Shadows, it's "Phoenix" by Fall Out Boy (who I'm seeing live in concert in a couple days, yay).

If you are still writing about Batman rogue headcanons I was wondering how would each one treat retail workers?

I'm absolutely still posting rogues headcanons! I just haven't been super active on this blog lately/ haven't had a lot of interaction- so I haven't been getting any asks to answer! I should post about that again tbh. Anyways, I'm probably not going to cover everyone, but here are some of my faves and how I think they'd act. We're running specifically w/ food service workers here because that's the form of retail I have experience with teehee

Riddler: Look, I love him as much as the next guy, but he would fucking SUCK to deal with as a customer. Edward has a massive complex about being better than other people, and that of COURSE applies to retail workers as well, unfortunately. He'd be just as snappy and prone to insults as he is with his own henchmen, lmfao. Expect to get called something demeaning if you fuck something up in his order, and try not to take it personally- it's not specifically because you're working customer service, it's just because you're somebody who isn't him or one of his close friends (skull emoji).

Catwoman: Literally the model customer. She's friendly and will strike up a conversation, but not in that over-the-top enthusiastic way that can sometimes be exhausting to deal with. She might have her eye set on stealing the finer things in life, but that doesn't mean she doesn't respect the people who are working customer service jobs to get by- hell, she's probably worked some shitty retail jobs of her own as a teen before getting into crime full-time. She gets it. She's not going to give you a hard time, ever.

Harley Quinn: Very friendly and easy to serve! She'll take forever to decide what she wants off the menu, and will probably ask you at least seven questions about different items, but at the end of the day she's not rude and doesn't cause much of a fuss, so it's all good.

Scarecrow: Whether or not you consider him an easy customer or not depends on whether or not you're cool with someone who just abruptly orders their food/drinks before you can get your "Hi, welcome to (blank), what can I get you?" spiel out of your mouth and then just goes completely silent the entire time their order is being prepared. That's Jonathan. Don't even bother trying to make small talk, just ignore the Kubrick stare being levelled at you while you work- he's probably relatively harmless if he's just there to pick up something to eat.

Two-Face: Hear me out. He's easy to handle if you know how to. If he's just at your place of work to order food or something, you're not going to wind up on the wrong end of a coin flip unless you fuck up majorly and do something cringe and fail. Just be a normal guy. Treat him like any other customer in this scenario, and he's probably about as average a customer as you can get, if a little on the intimidating and impatient side. Harvey seems like he's always got somewhere to be, and might be a little bit peeved if things take longer than they should- he does have a bit of a hair-trigger temper, after all, but like... it shouldn't be an issue. A simple polite apology and a promise that the order's on it's way, and you're not in danger at all.

And finally, the Joker. Do I even need to tell you how the Joker probably treats retail workers? Methinks the answer is no. You can imagine that one yourself... yikes.

Care to spare some advice on how to not be so affected by things without stepping back from fandom for multiple years lmao? It seems like for so many people, the longer they have been here, the easier it is for them. For me it's the opposite. The longer I'm in fandom the sadder and more frustrated I get that hl's situations are what they are 12 years on. And then I get frustrated with people who act like where they're at now is no big deal or sooo much better than before. It's a cycle lol.

hmm, i think it's tough because a lot of the things that helped me are most easily achieved by distancing yourself because that's the easiest way to gain perspective about the situation. when you’re actively in it, it’s much harder to break out of patterns you’re accustomed to. but i think the main "lessons" i learned from being away were essentially:

1) recognizing my own powerlessness in their situation. being away made it especially clear that my presence in the fandom does not affect anything. i am not able to change anything about their situation. if i continued being in fandom for those 4-ish years that i was away from fandom, the situation would still be exactly the same as it is now for them. i cannot give up my own happiness for something i cannot change.

2) similarly, the need to dismantle the parasocial relationship i had with them. it’s one thing to feel compassion for human beings you don’t personally know- that is a wonderful trait and important for the world! but, it’s another thing to feel like you “owe” anything to a celebrity you do not know personally and who does not even know you exist. sometimes, when you’re in deep, it almost feels like you would be “failing” them by not being angry enough or invested enough. that’s where it gets unhealthy, because the relationship of a fan and a celebrity is one-sided, and therefore, again, it comes down to the fact that you can’t give up your own happiness for something you cannot control in the life of a celebrity you do not personally know. no one owes a celebrity they like their mental well-being, no matter how much you feel compassion for them.

3) the recognition that fandom is supposed to be fun. it’s obvious, but sometimes it becomes less clear the deeper you get that some of the things you think you’re doing for fun aren’t actually that fun to you anymore lol. obviously nearly any interest is gonna make you angry or sad occasionally (your sports team loses, your fave character gets killed off in your favourite show, etc), but if your resting state is anger or sadness, it’s maybe not in your best interest to continue, or you need to change the way you interact with said hobby. your hobby shouldn’t be making you miserable, as that is just gonna bleed into the rest of your life.

SO, for actual advice that doesn’t involve leaving for years:

taking short breaks! you don’t have to take years away to still give yourself some space from the fandom. it can be a day, a week, a month, or even just cutting down on the amount of time you spend on tumblr (or social media of choice) in general for a while without leaving completely. when i feel like something is getting me riled up a bit more than usual, i usually step away for even just a day, and even just that calms me down and gives me perspective. if you want to take a break but still want to know what’s going on, you can also just pick one or two blogs that you know don’t post much drama and solely pay attention to those blogs while you’re away.

enriching your other hobbies. take some of the time you would normally spend reading shit in this fandom, and use it to do something else you enjoy. the more time you spend “away”, even if you still are in the fandom, the less critically important everything will eventually feel in your brain and it will often be easier to detach emotionally. when you’re unhappy in other parts of your life, it’s much easier to let one thing “take over”, and it’s important to make room for other things in your life.

if you feel like you need a hyperfixation of sorts, i’d say try out different fandoms. watch that show your friend told you they know you’ll love and then try to make a sideblog or something and join the fandom. join a fandom of a piece of media you already love but never was involved in fandom for. again, it can help you distance yourself emotionally a bit without leaving entirely

figure out what parts you ACTUALLY enjoy in this fandom, and figure out what parts you may think you enjoy but are actually making you more anxious/obsessive/angry/upset than anything. as a personal example, i used to be heavily into theorizing back in 2015-2016, especially during babygate. i would be obsessed with reading up on everyone’s theories about when babygate would end, how it might end, etc, and would spend a lot of time reading about it. i thought i enjoyed it at the time, but in reality it was more of an obsession that made me much more upset than i had to be. reading up on theories, getting my hopes up, and then have them not happening was miserable and not worth it and ultimately lead me to leave the fandom

similarly, try to break some of your fandom habits and see if you’re happier without them. as another personal example, i used to pay extreme attention to stunt stuff and wanted to be 100% caught up on everything at all times. as a byproduct of that, i would keep up with every post a couple blogs that talked about stunts would make. when i got super busy with a work project, it forced me to take a break from this because i didn’t have the time to keep up with everything, and breaking that habit of needing to know EVERYTHING and be totally caught up made me snap out of the habit and recognize i didn’t need that to enjoy my time in fandom, and in fact it took a weight off my shoulder and made me realize it wasn’t actually making me happy.

unfollow blogs that make you upset!!! even if you like the person, if they talk about things that get you riled up or upset often, it’s likely not worth it. if you hate-follow people to keep up with their opinions that piss you off, unfollow! if you’re stewing in anger all the time, it’s easier to stay unhealthily invested to your happiness’ detriment.

focus on things you CAN control. you can control your fandom experience. you can contribute to fan projects that make the fandom a better place and in some cases can positively contribute to l’s or h’s experiences (like the rainbow lights projects, for example). you can control how you interact with your fellow fans. don’t give all your energy to things that you cannot control.

La Squadra x Two-Sided Reader

Formaggio- At least at first, Formaggio misunderstands you. With the sweet and girly way you act around him, Formaggio can’t help but treat you like any other pretty girl (though crucially one he likes) he might hang out with. The first time he sees you kill his reaction is shock. He isn’t sure what he expected to happen but it wasn’t that. After he’s calmed down and the danger is clear, Formaggio can’t do anything but laugh. He absolutely adores this feisty new side to you, but it’s just so unexpected he can’t help himself. If you end up as his girlfriend he loves to parade you around to both friends and enemies alike. Having such a sweet doll who gets so dangerous for him fills him with pride.

Illuso- Early on, your perceived weakness makes you a target for Illuso’s bullying. It’s nothing too severe as Illuso is never really mean to his teammates on purpose, but it’s clear he doesn’t take you very seriously as an assassin. When he learns the truth, his pride causes him to (badly) try and shake it off like he never doubted you in the first place, but it’s clear he’s astounded by the way you leaped in to save him. After that, Illuso seems distant for a while, but the truth is he’s deep in thought. Illuso isn’t the type to confess his attractions easily, but that doesn’t mean there’s no hope for you to be together. As your boyfriend, Illuso loves to give you opportunities to show off your more dangerous side, whether that be from planned missions or just taking you into a shady bar to see what trouble comes your way. You’re very precious to him, and even if he sometimes forgets to show it, he makes up for it the rest of the time.

Pesci- It’s a perfect match! What more could Pesci ask for than someone to complement his docile nature on a normal day, whilst also standing up for him during a dangerous one. In a sense, Pesci is a lot like you, but it takes the peril of someone close to him to bring out his more assertive side whereas your switch flicks much easier. It’s doubtless that Pesci will be a good friend to you, and any romantic prospects have a high chance of succeeding as well. The love between you will make for a sweet and gentle romance, while also turning you into even more of a formidable force if your timid boyfriend is ever threatened. That said however, perhaps Pesci could end up learning from you about when it’s a good idea to stand up for himself. You’ll certainly have Prosciutto’s thanks if you can manage it.

Prosciutto- You have a personality he can certainly appreciate- graceful and chic by default but capable of knuckling down to business when a mission requires it. His only qualm is that he’d rather you didn’t get so overtly defensive of him. He can handle himself, and the way you act so viscerally provoked when he’s threatened could make an enemy think otherwise. Prosciutto would much rather you focused on yourself and your own problems mid-gunfight. Even still, you’re among the most bearable of his teammates to work with, by a long shot. Prospects for a romance are very good, as you have a personality that attracts him while also being someone he can rely on in regards to his work.

Melone- You certainly make a change from the rest of the squad, and Melone likes that. He is instantly drawn to your girly colours and innocent habits. When he finds out how you really are when push comes to shove, he is even more intrigued. That sort of strength would be perfect for raising a junior… or even, perhaps, a real child. La Squadra might have to reign him in a bit on occasions, but rest assured Melone would never actually do you any harm. A romantic relationship would most likely arise out of Melone’s frequent attempts to charm and entertain you. The gentle domesticity of the ensuing relationship would blow the rest of the team away, none of them having ever pictured Melone as being capable of such a thing.

Ghiaccio- He likes you a lot as you’re way nicer to him than some of his other teammates, while also holding a sense of professionalism he appreciates on the field. It’s particularly assuring to him as he can trust you not to get yourself hurt around his stand, which makes you one of the better people for him to work with, One thing he wants to learn from you is how you switch so controllably between your usual more amicable demeanour and your dangerous one. He genuinely wants to learn to control his temper, and thinks emulating you could help with that. In terms of romance, Ghiaccio is most likely to confess feelings for you in the heat of the moment mid-mission, while you’re in one of your deadlier moods. Looking into your face and saying those things while you’re acting all sweet for him would just destroy the poor man’s nerves.

Risotto Nero- It’s quite a well-hidden secret, but Risotto adores the sweeter things in life. He likes the idea of having somebody to look after and to greet him with smiles and laughter. The greatest barrier to this dream has always been the dread of endangering the person he loves because of the life he lives. To know that you can handle yourself reassures him greatly, and the second he realises the duality of your personality, he gets an instant crush. Risotto enjoys going on missions with you just to be quietly amazed by your strength and confidence. The way you jump to defend him makes his heart flutter every time. If you do choose to take him as your lover, you might find yourself becoming almost like La Squadra’s mum, a warm, feminine figure at the side of your formidable capo.

Sorbet and Gelato- With the domesticated, near paternal demeanour with which they treat those close to them against the absolute unfettered chaos that breaks loose once they’re alone with a victim, they can understand you perfectly fine. When they first met you, they were nonetheless friendly to you but feared you might break under the pressure of this occupation. You can imagine their joy when they learned how wrong they were. All in all, Sorbet appreciate someone who can stomach them in their sadistic moods, while still being a joy to be around the rest of the time. In the event you find yourself as their third, you’ll be a power thrupple feared by all of Passione. And the best part is that once you’ve finished carving up bodies, you can curl up on Gelato’s lap while Sorbet gets a bath ready.

I love your blog and your autistic and aro headcanons! I just wanted to ask: I'm [probably] not an autistic person but sometimes yours and other autistic people's headcanons and writing about experiences inspire my own autistic character headcanons. I worry I should not be making these headcanons (in case I'm misinterpreting your experiences or being unintentionally Terrible) but if you have any advice on this I'd be grateful! No worries if not, as well. Keep being your fantastic self

This is a really sweet message thank you so much! As a general rule, there’s nothing wrong with allistics making autistic headcanons; in fact, I’d personally really like to see that be something that grows more mainstream, because it’d mean normalization of autistic headcanons/characters and show a general growing interest in actually learning about autism. So please, do go ahead and make your headcanons! There’s no problem with them!

That said, it’s also unfortunately true that some allistics (often a lot of them) who make autistic headcanons can fall into some common ableist (or not necessarily ableist but still kind of unfortunate) pitfalls, so in case you’re worried about that (although honestly the fact that you sent this ask in the first place probably means that you’re good anyway), here’s some tips and tricks to avoid common issues with allistic autistic headcanons (there’s an oxymoron if I ever heard one):

Please don’t use functioning labels for your autistic characters. Functioning labels are labels like ‘high-functioning’ and ‘low-functioning’, and they’re generally considered to be bad by the autistic community for a variety of reasons (more here (although most of the links are dead), here, here (under ‘We Are One Community’), here). However, I’ve noticed a lot of allistics (and ignorant autistics too) who add these onto their headcanons. Please don’t? 

More of a personal thing, but please don’t separate your autistic headcanons into ‘Aspergers’ and ‘autism’. Aspergers is autism, and with the updated DSM, does not exist anymore and has been merged into the overarching diagnosis of ASD. Classifying specific characters as ‘aspies’ is alienating to autistics who aren’t aspies. If aspies themselves headcanon characters as aspies I don’t mind, but when allistics do it I get Suspicious. 

This also goes for separating your autism diagnosis into ‘PDD-NOS’ and ‘classical autism’, but I pretty much never see that so it has lower priority.

Full disclosure though: I have very negative experiences with the Aspergers diagnosis in general and I hate it so much that I have ‘aspie’, ‘aspergers’, and ‘aspergers syndrome’ just straight up blacklisted. I’m not an unbiased source here. 

While we’re on the topic of correct language usage, please use identity first language for your autistic headcanon, not person first language (identity first: autistic person; person first: person with autism). The majority of the autistic community prefers identity first language because we don’t feel like our autism can be separated from who we are (more here, here). 

Also maybe refrain from using the phrases ‘ASD’, ‘on the spectrum’, ‘somewhere on the autism spectrum’, etc. and just use ‘autistic’ instead. There’s nothing inherently Problematic(TM) about those phrases, but it’s really weird to read an entire autistic headcanon that doesn’t use the word autistic, or seems to want to avoid using it. 

Don’t use infantilizing language! Maybe think twice before calling your autistic headcanon a ‘precious baby’ or a ‘smol child’ or something, especially if they’re a grown adult. I mean, doing this once in the tags of a post when they’re being cute or something is fine, but do NOT do this on posts where you talk about them being autistic, and do NOT do this on a regular basis.

Do NOT compare them to inhuman things like animals, computers, or aliens. Just. Don’t. Ever.

Be careful headcanoning inhuman characters as autistic. It’s generally not inherently problematic, especially not in fantasy/sci-fi shows where the majority of the cast is inhuman, but it gets really tiring to only ever see the robot/alien headcanoned as autistic, and it promotes our dehumanization. Just examine your patterns and maybe try headcanoning a human character as autistic as well in those sci-fi/fantasy shows?

This goes more for robots/aliens than for things like elves. Robots/aliens tend to be autism-coded, which has lead to the negative stereotype that autistics are like robots, and the very literal alienation of autistic people. Elves, on the other and, are not historically autism-coded, and are generally considered super cool and graceful and such, so headcanoning them as autistic is pretty much always okay.

If possible, promote autistics who make content for your autistic headcanon! Read their fics! Reblog their headcanon posts! If you can’t find stuff that’s fine, and you can definitely make your own stuff as well, but if you can, promote autistics!

Related, listen to autistics! Not just when we tell you something is problematic, but if you’re making headcanons, it’s a good idea to have at least a base knowledge of our experiences and the issues we face, so that you don’t accidentally do something problematic. (Anon seems to have this down already, but since this is more of a general list, I’m putting it on anyway). ASAN and the Autism Women’s Network are both fantastic places to start learning about autism, Autism Speaks is the devil and to be avoided at all costs, and there’s plenty of autistic bloggers on this site, so maybe follow some autism blogs!

Don’t put an ‘I’m allistic so tell me if I said something bad!’ disclaimer on your autistic headcanon posts. This is a good habit when writing Serious Posts, but for headcanons, it’s unnecessary and generally kinda weird. It’s not Problematic(TM), and I understand having anxiety and insecurity when making headcanons for something outside of your experience, but it’s. Kinda annoying. Do it in the tags instead; that way people can still be informed about the fact that you’re allistic, without it being obnoxiously on the post no matter what you do.

Don’t write fic specifically about being autistic - you are not autistic and you’re probably gonna get something wrong. Instead, incorporate your autistic headcanon into fics about something else. It’s fine if the autism features heavily, just... no ‘x always knew they were different’ or ‘x has always seen the word in a different light due to the fact that they’re autistic’-centric fics. 

Exception: you can write fics about being autistic provided you have an autistic beta/sensitivity reader. And if you do, mention it somewhere on the fic. Idk about other autistics, but unless an autism-centric fic seems like it was written by an autistic, I scroll right past it, because they tend to be very ableist if they’re written by allistics. So if you have an autistic sensitivity reader, mention it.

Headcanon lists are fine though! Headcanon lists are generally less intensive and require less ability to ‘get into someone’s head’ than fic writing, so if you want to say ‘I headcanon x as autistic because y reasons’ or ‘x is autistic and they stim in the following ways/have meltdowns/script/etc.’ that’s fine and cool!

Fanart and edits are cool too! Again, there’s less need to get into someone’s head, so drawing a character while stimming or editing the autism/neurodiversity rainbow infinity symbol behind them is just fine!

Every once in a while, sit back and examine the patterns in your autistic headcanons. What kind of characters are you headcanoning as autistic? Do you notice any worrying patterns? For example, are all your autistic headcanons white, or are they all male, or are they all robots/aliens, or do you also just so happen to headcanon all of them as aro/ace and/or unavailable for romantic/sexual relationships? That’s not to say that any and all patterns are always bad or ableist (pretty much all of my autistic headcanons are also aspec bc I’m an autistic aspec and I like projecting) (although if your autistic headcanons are always male/white, then yes that’s absolutely bad), but if you find a pattern, examine possible reasons why it exists.

This is a good habit to get into with any kind of minority headcanon, by the way! I’m gonna use LGBT+ headcanons as an example: who are you headcanoning as aspec and why? Do you notice a particular LGBT+ that’s getting left behind in your headcanons? Do you always pick the same character archetype for certain LGBT+ headcanons (for example, cold unapproachable characters as aro or extroverted characters as pan), and if so, why? 

Actually! Examining your patterns in fandom behaviour in general is good. If you notice you usually don’t like female characters, then that’s probably something you should examine. If you notice that all your faves are white and that you are more interested in white background characters than main characters of colour, you should examine that. If you notice that, even though you like this minority character or headcanon, you don’t consume or create any content for them, examine why. 

Problematic fandom behaviour very rarely manifests itself in something that happens once. It’s not inherently wrong to dislike this female character or not to like that ace headcanon, but if you notice that you consistently don’t like or aren’t interested in a particular character or headcanon, or if you notice that you consistently give particular characters particular headcanons, that might be an issue. Like I said, patterns are not always bad, but it’s good to be aware of them in case they are.

I’ll elaborate a bit on autistic aspec headcanons bc that’s such a hot button issue in fandom (bc people are asshats), but the tl;dr is that autistic aspec headcanons are not inherently bad and in fact, as an autistic aspec myself, I rather like them. However, headcanoning the one autistic-coded character as the one aroace in the group unfortunately does happen pretty often (Entrapta from She-Ra comes to mind - I’ve seen SO MANY posts about how everyone is a lesbian in She-Ra except for Entrapta, who is aroace of course, and it’s... pretty suspicious). But that’s not to say that you cannot headcanon autistic-coded/headcanoned characters as aspec; I elaborate more on this topic here (featuring a GREAT addition by @aroworlds!). Just examine your patterns and why they exist.

So this is not something that Inherently Problematic(TM), but it’s very annoying to me, so here goes: maybe diversify your autistic headcanons. I’m not saying ‘make sure your autistic headcanons are also poc/lgbt/etc.’ (although that’s very cool too), but just... diversify the autism itself. Often, it’s the exact same character archetype that gets headcanoned as autistic, and as an autistic whose autism tends to manifest in less typical ways, it gets... annoying. 

Examples of typical autism tropes: the eccentric (computer/science) genius, the robot/alien, the socially awkward.traumatized loner, etc.

Examples of characters frequently headcanoned as autistic: Tony Stark (eccentric computer genius), Bruce Banner (socially awkward science genius), Pidge from Voltron (eccentric computer/science genius), Keith from Voltron (socially awkward loner alien), Entrapta (eccentric computer/science genius), Sherlock Holmes (eccentric genius), etc.

Also note how 90% of these characters are skinny white guys.

Seriously it’s 100% more likely for a skinny white guy to get headcanoned as autistic than it is for any character of colour and/or female character to get headcanoned as autistic, PLEASE examine your biases.

Examples of character archetypes that damn near never get headcanoned as autistic: team leaders, extroverted/loud characters, team heart (aka the ‘team mediator’, the glue that keeps people together), etc.

Examples of autistic headcanons I have that are non-conventional/less common: Allura from Voltron (team heart, leader), Hunk from Voltron (team heart), Arthur from BBC Merlin (leader), Kaldur’ahm from Young Justice (leader).

All of these characters are pretty damn autism-coded, and while it’s not... impossible to find content for some of these, there’s generally a lot less for them. 

What I’m getting at is that, because the stereotypical autism-coded character of the eccentric computer nerd/socially awkward loner/robot/alien looms larger in the public consciousness, there’s a confirmation bias when it comes to these kind of characters. This often gets coupled with the stereotype that all autistic people are white boys, which results in a whole lot of the same white guys being headcanoned as autistic, even when other characters are just as if not more autism-coded. 

It’s not Problematic(TM) to headcanon more stereoypically autism-coded characters as autistic, and it’s honestly not even Problmatic(TM) to only headcanon those characters as autistic, especially not if an autistic person who does present like that relates to those characters or if an allistic isn’t sure about their headcanons and wants to play it safe. But it does lead to a very monotone depiction of autism, and leads autistic people who don’t fit the stereotypical mold (me!) to feel left out. So, if possible, try researching lesser known autism traits or just generally thinking a bit out of the box when making autism headcanons.

It’s definitely bad to only headcanon skinny white guys as autistic though. Like I know I’ve said this 50 times now, but seriously, fandom racism and sexism (or a neat combination of the two in case of female character of colour) is SUPER noticeable in autistic headcanons. 

And lastly: when in doubt, ask an autistic! Asking questions isn’t illegal, and if you’re not sure about whether x thing you want to do is okay, just shoot an autistic (who is okay with questions) an ask! I’m always open for questions about autism and such (and I love talking about it so that’s a bonus), so don’t be afraid to hit me up for further info!

Ohohohohohohoho I’m glad you both asked about Kirishima’s pack cause boy do I have answers - okay first things first, Kirishima is only dating Bakugou and he’s the only wolf shifter in the pack (well, Mina is also a shifter, just not a wolf shifter)

In the AU pack dynamics are loosely based on how wolf packs work in the wild: in nature usually there’s an alpha couple (the “alpha male” and his mate) and the rest of the pack is made out of their pups! So by all means it’s just a family unit - once the pups are old enough to fend for themselves they leave the “pack” to form their own family - they’re social animals, so they need a pack to be happy and safe, and that reflects in the AU too. In this universe though it’s pretty normal for wolf shifters to date/marry non-shifters or shifters of other kinds, and when that happens the resulting kids might or might not have shifting abilities, which results in the process of forming a pack being a bit all over the place

In Kirishima’s case, he was born by two non-shifters who had shifter blood in them - as a wolf shifter his wolf side needed a pack to feel well (let’s say, other wolves to play with and learn from and so on) so as a kid he used to spend a lot of time with Fat and Amajiki (both wolf shifters!) who acted as a surrogate pack for the wolf in him - now he’s old enough to have his own pack tho! And while ideally that would mean he builds his own family with another wolf shifter, he ended up falling for Bakugou, who’s a non-shifter and a man, which means the family plan sorta went down the drain. His wolf still needs a pack to be happy tho, and that ended up meaning he latched onto Mina (a childhood friend) and Kaminari and Sero (Bakugou’s close friends) who by this point are as close to him as if they were actual family.

So in theory Kirishima’s wolf side sees the pack as himself and Bakugou as the alpha couple and Mina, Sero and Kaminari as the “pups” - practically though Kirishima’s human side has a perfect grasp on his wolf’s instincts, so all in all it ends up just being five pals loving each other like family, no power imbalance at all (…he does get clingy after his pack members spend time with people outside of the pack, but he doesn’t ever try to stop them from socializing outside of the group and cuddles and general close proximity are all he needs to make his wolf feel better!)

…as you can see, I spent more time on this AU than strictly necessary haha

In the UA file there was noted how after he breaks it he needs a while to get in back up, but against Rappa he just kept on pulling it back up every time it got broken? So?? Was that just the moment’s adrenaline making him able to keep going, or did he actually get rid of the cooldown? If he did he doesn’t have a drawback anymore!!! You go my small rock son!!!!

He’s perfectly stable with Kaminari, Sero, Shouji and Tsuyu! (Kaminari and Sero cause they’re friends, Shouji and Tsuyu cause the resulting fusions are the only two Mineta fusions with no sexual tendencies at all. They just. Suppress that side of Mineta completely) He’s more or less stable with another few in the class, but the only perfectly stable ones are those four!

Uhmmm lemme see if I know how to word this properly�� it is true that I ship every possible couple out of the four of them, and it’s also true that I ship the ot3 separately too (though I always prefer it if Kiri and Baku are together for ~otp reasons~ haha) and I guess I don’t mind the ot4 either? They give me a warm feeling and I love to think about them happy and together all flopped over each other and being affectionate and loving, but all of this can happen with them being in a really close frienship too, right? And I generally prefer them in that sort of relationship

The reason why is mostly that… how do I put this, every couple and trio have their own very singular dynamics, right? Bakugou and Kirishima’s relationship is gonna be different from Bakugou and Sero’s or Sero’s and Kirishima’s or Kaminari and Kirishima’s, they all have different moods and different feelings and so on, which means that they will have different ways in which they’ll develop too, I don’t know if you’re following me. I’m not saying that it’s impossible for all four of them to develop romantic feelings towards all the other three at the same time starting from such different relationships, it’s completely possible and that’s why I don’t mind the ot4 at all, but when I have such a huge playground to enjoy so many different friendships and relationships and dynamics, boiling them all down to the same “they’re romantically into each other” cuts a lot of the fun, for me!

So tl;dr what I mean is that I don’t mind the ot4 and I might draw for it in the future, but it’s more entertaining for me to pick a couple/ot3 and see how the other dynamics shift because of it then just put them all in the same relationship!

Also, I’m a fan of the idea of the four of them ending up being overly affectionate and tactile with each other anyway, so in the end romance or not what’s missing is just the kisses, isn’t it? I don’t draw n sfw anyway haha
