Anyway, for now we're just gonna start with something simple: voting on a rough setting.

Because while yes, rp are very vague about it in some cases, there's always that general "they're in city x" or "they're in country y", etc.

In case for this, I have three options to offer, more detailed description + poll under the cut!

🪭Option One: Traversing worlds through a mode of transportation, main setting being either a ship or a train. Neither of those being anything like regular ones, obviously, if they move between worlds. And, as previously implied: people from various fandoms can meet up on said mode of transportation!

🪭Option Two: A school-type setting. An academy or high-school or college that's basically just in one smaller dimension where various fandoms go to school. Not necessarily as students- teachers and librarians & other staff are also a possibility!

@pen--anon had a moment of enlightenment related to that TRAIN fic of yours (god ill never forgive you for that- /j /nsrs) aka the Runaway boys fic

( more under the cut like always bc the damn 2 for 1 starry special never lets me analyze ANYTHING without making it so damn long- /hj )

The obvious two lines that inspired this are so AUGH bc its legitimately just the plot of the fic :

"We are running out time, we are running, we running"

"But you're a killer. And I'm your best friend."

But not only is the first line more about Brent's confliction with staying with Sophist, and his future idea that death might be the only resolute way to fix both his guilt and his desire to stay with him, these two lines both predate the beginning of the fic. The second part of the lyric references the original crime and how they are currently running, and the first part of the lyric regarding them running out of time could either be Brent's inital fear of them getting caught or futher down the line but not to the point of the story, where he starts to believe that their time together is running out as he starts developing this guilty conscience and inability to feel satisfied bc he regrets his current decision.

This song is also really good, but as I kept listening, I thought more about a more toxic/conflicted variation of this au. There's no changes at all conceptually, but instead of them kissing on the moonlit track, Brent and Sophist finds themselves more in conflict and arguing as Brent actually vents his struggles. Sophist finding it incredulous that Brent now has this confliction despite/because of everything they've sacrificed up until now (vs if he had known in the original fic, as he was mostly unaware of Brent's confliction, he might've apologized or something idk that's pen's decision-) which leads into the next lyrics:

"You say I'm changing"

"Sorry I did not stay the same/didn't know I had to stay the same"

"Can we talk about this later?"

"Your voice is driving me, driving me insane"

I've heard this song before, and while I know the lyrics, I've both seen people confuse them for and am personally able to hear "Sorry I did not stay the same".

This alongside the actual lyrics presents two different versions of Brent, now in the present. One is more faithful to (his personality in) the original fic, and when he says "I didn't know I had to stay the same", he's genuinely dismayed that Sophist thinks this about his feelings. He loves him, so for him to not understand his grievances, it pains him. It hurts him so (much), to the point that he genuinely needs to stop having this conversation, and so, he practically begs, "Can we talk about this later?"; his eyes closing in anguish as he all but defeatedly lets it all go at the word: "Your voice is driving me, driving me insane". He needs to leave, get out, for just a moment, just because hearing Sophist right now is making his emotions so volatile and uncontrollably turmoiled that he can't even think straight. He's afraid of what will happen to them and their relationship, which, in the moment, now seems like its on the verge of shattering into pieces, but god knows he loves him too much to loose him, even now. So he prays that Sophist sees the desperation in his eyes and stops talking, because he might actually loose his sanity and the final fragments of his stable mental health if he doesn't.

On the other hand, the other Brent only gets angry from this, angry like he's never had and angry like he never thought he could be towards the man he loves, but he is. And even then, there's two types of his anger. One of them, he bites heavily into the "Sorry I did not stay the same." He's bitter, because it stings just as much to bring it up, to have to defend him conflictions and his morals, that it does to lash out at Sophist, but he still does. He will grit his teeth and hold back his frustration as best as he can, but the pang in his heart in unavoidable. In another way, his voices grows harsher at "Sorry I did not stay the same." His eyes glaze in his fury, pure rage in voice as they darken and become sharp and unforgiving. He's trembling, struggling to hold back his frustration, and it takes every bit of him to reign in his self control.

Either way, he chokes out the words "Can we talk about this later?" It's only when he says "Your voice is driving me, driving me insane" that his frustration starts to leak. He's all but shaking, brows furrowed and eyes squinted, refusing to meet his gaze and instead staring down, gaze like hes reasoning with something, but not quite actually looking at anything. His fingers locked stiffly in a curved position as he fights the urge to clench his hands into fists, but their shaking betrays his efforts. God he's driving him, driving him, and his eyes squeeze shut for just a second as both his hands and his head rise upward. In the same second, they drop, and his frustration explodes outwards in insane, eyes opening as clawed hands clench into fists and follow the motion of his head, white knuckled nail-imprinting pain into his flesh. He is done, he is tired. He can not take it anymore.

This ended up being longer than I thought, so I'll give yall a break 😅

Now, I have 3 versions of wings I envision myself with. 1, lower back/hip wings that aren't bird, but moreso look like those cool feathered raptor(dinosaur, not bird) wings (so they'd fold at my sides instead of my back). 2, Catalina Macaw shoulder blade wings. And 3, a small set of wings (length of my arms) on my lower back and another set behind my ears (red-fronted macaw or also Catalina)

Starting with number 1, I'd like having another set of "arms" to help hold and carry things. They would be easier to preen since i dont gave to bend or twist much to reach them. They'd be really helpful with climbing (something I love but struggle to do) And I could pickpocket people when I hug them! /hj Some dislikes of this set of wings is that it would be much harder to sleep with them compared to others (especially since I'm a side sleeper)

For number 2, theses are a really good set of wings, basic and sweet lol. Beeeeeeeeeeeeeg hugs for my loved ones, I would scoop those mfs into my feathers and they'd never see the light of day again. Most proportionate and normal looking of the bunch. I can still sleep on my side. I often imagine I would use them to create a little safe barrier between me and my chaotic household when things get real crazy. Idk if this counts as what I would like but, I'd feel whole. Like this thing I've been missing my whole life would finally be a weight on my shoulders in the best way possible. Some negatives I'd have with the Catalina Macaw wings are that they are the biggest of the bunch, therefore the clunkiest and hardest to preen on my own. I'm terrible at self-care, so there would be weeks where my feathers would be looking rough to say the least.

Finally number 3! For the head pair, I would use them to cover my face a lot. I can't tell if this is a negative or a positive, but in public/at school I have to try really hard to not laugh or smile or have any kind of facial reaction because that draws attention to me/sometimes I do it wrong and get made fun of, so I just don't now. But with the head wings, I could cover my face to crack a smile every once in a while. If I really wanna avoid eye contact I can put the wings in the way. Not to mention I'd be all cutesie kissing my partners, fluffing my feathers and all that. They could also be a tell of my emotions (like dog ears or sm :) As for negatives I feel like until I get my haircut it's gonna be a pain brushing with them in the way (it hurts enough when I accidentally poke my ears on the bristles, I don't wanna mess up my wings too, that'd hurt bro) For the lower back pair, theses would probably be the ideal wings convenience wise. I can sit and lay most places without hurting them, I can still give feathery hugs, and they wouldn't be horrible to preen. Little annoyance, they're the smallest main set of wings, so I feel like my dogs (German shepherd puppies) would try to take a bite out of my feathers while teething, and I can't swat them away like I can with the other ones.

Bonus: some behaviors I think I would have with said wings- For number 1, I think I would often figet/stim using the wings since they're the only ones with claws. Number 2 I think I would shake them out when I'm really excited, and the lower pair of number 3 I might flap them when excited/overwhelmed.

I know that's like sometimes what ppl say when there's a straight pairing popular ship (makki) vs a gay popular one (maxneil) and they don't really mean it they just mean they have a uncomfortbilty or hatred towards one of the ships, but in my mind they're literally twins/hj

I have AUs where they're twins, half siblings, step siblings. I love them sm..There's even a line in one of the end credit rap songs that goes something like "we may not have the same color skin but imma treat em like my twin" and I'm like ah yes,,, something to feed into my delusions/j

((on a more srs note I feel like more ppl should look into the end credit lyrics alot of it seems specifically written to fit Max and might give people a better insight into his characterization))

But enough of my fannon delusions n self indulgence they're obviously not actually siblings they're best friends BUT they didn't start off that way no matter how sweet the "you now have three little bastards to deal with" line is bc in the first season, earlier episodes he's more of an asshole to her bc they're still getting to know each other.

He broke her instrument, quicker to basically tell her to shut up on multiple occasions, ect.

Back to the first episode, Max operates BIG on first impressions. Off the bat he's touching Neil's shoulder, he's impressed by his disrespect to authority, he wants to hotwire the bus with him. But Nikki? Hardly addressing her. Even says "why would you help us?" Bc despite biting him, she appeared to be just a 'little more violent, mini-David.' THAT was his first impression of her. Nikki didn't have his attention or respect technically until he learned her willingness to seek and cause chaos near the end of the episode. There's times at later points where she's clearly getting on his nerves.

I'm pretty sure I already wrote out a whole in depth thing about how Max has issues getting attached to people and will fight it off and deny it once it happens even at the cost of their feelings (points at camp corp episode) where as Nikki is a social person who has been denied a real friend til she came to camp campbell same as Neil, who is NOT a social person. They both start off clingy towards Max for this but Nikki works past it and makes 2 other friends while Neil doesn't.

So recap: Max builds a team of two other kids he can just share a common goal with at first, is a bit of a jerk to Nikki initially at times, but she grows on him and now he really values her as a friend n cares for her deeply.

But now onto NIKKI'S POV: She'd been bullied before, it was a traumatic experience for her yes but that's also the ONLY information we have on any past relationships she's had with peers, kids her own age. Any other time she's talking about someone she knew it's often just her mom. sometimes her dad (often not painting a good picture of him but through a childhood innocence lense) or an animal she knew.

So when she makes her first friend group in camp campbell her only prior experience with one is in the flower scouts. Nikki picked up bad habits from them bc she's a kid and doesn't have the emotional maturity to analyze her every behavior.

So when Max is being the type of person who was being quick to shut her down, who (in her own words) was micro managing her, and only ever seemed like he was having a good time when they were doing what HE planned to do, ofc she's gonna start harboring some complaints. Nikki isn't gonna sit down and talk about her feelings to him like an adult she's gonna do what the flower scouts taught her and you talk shit about the problem to OTHER friends.

This isn't to say she secretly hates him, no I firmly believe she deeply cares about him too but they're both flawed people so their friendship has flaws too that doesn't make it void of care for one another.

You can't unbiasedly hate on Nikki for that scene she's mocking him if you're not even taking into consideration WHAT her original issue was. Nikki shit talks, Max has control issues.

As episodes progress I think they really seem to work past it and become better people AND I THINK THAT'S RLLY SWEET I LOVE THEIR FRIENDSHIP ❣️❣️

The way they interact with each other throughout the series really shows that their differences might cause some clashing but they have FUN together and I think their differences and problems just make them more interesting characters

I think their dynamic can be summed up as a childhood friends to enemies to lovers kind of thing. The two are set up as natural foils for wach other, a prince and a pauper, both living in the same circus, but experiencing a different side of it while failing to understand each other until the very end. There is a lot to work with both in a childhood setting, but both as "what ifs". But I could actually ramble on a lot... Canon-wise Joker is pretty submissive, always pulling his head between his shoulders, but is knowingly the only person in the circus he is not afraid to let his voice heard. Murro even mentions how they always bickered and argued over everything, which, for me, is really interesting considering Joker is the type of person who apologizes for breathing. And of course, Joker has Mike's juggling balls. (seasonal rank essence B tier) I think in the event, and in letters we kind of see more sides of their relationship. Mike geniunely looks up at Joker and even feels a hint of anger and jealousy when he seems to only care about Margie. And he would rather accuse a woman of the fire and with the massacre than to ever consider Joker as the culprit. Even in the end, even after Vio's and Margie's end, when Murro asks him if they would hand Joker over to the police, Mike hesitates. On Joker's side, even in his madness, there were glimpses that he had memorized Mike's likes. He is not listening to the poem when he finishes the cipher, but goes "oh he likes stars and fireworks ever since he was a child". Part of me cannot keep wondering how different the ending would have been if Joker doesn't jump to his death and how would Mike make all the wrong's good. orz Skin-wise..... Now that's a fun one because when it comes to their personality they are the typical opposites attract case, but also with plenty of connecting points when it comes to their interests. I see Mike as someone who would call Joker out on his bs, while Joker as someone who wouldn't hesitate to bite back if the one doing this is Mike. Not lookin at bunlan Cunning and Naga kind of stand for this as Cunning embodies the vigilantism and slyness in Mike, while Naga is a snake luring people to a trap while him also being a victim. Matching these two would challenge both of their world view and Naga is not solely a villain, while Cunning is a worthy opponent Naga would not necessarily want to see as an undead.

Afton Family Headcanons That Are Basically Canon In My Head. (because I have brainworms)

- Elizabeth takes after her father's personality. She would've been a great lawyer, if she had had a chance to grow up.

- Mike has constant nightmares, and he's extremely lonely

- William was physically abusive.

- Mike tried to reach out to Henry about Willy's abuse once but Henry probably dismissed him

- Mike doesn't like uncle Henry all that much but he's okay...

- Mike has touch aversion. Only certain close people are allowed to touch him. He gets very touchy and clingy with his person™, also gets worried about being too clingy. (My baby!!)

FAQ:

What does FF! mean in front of character names? ff! means fanfic! It is for my NPMD rewrite/fanfics which focus on Max's childhood up until he's out of college. I decided to give it its own tag for easy scrolling on my profile if needed and to differentiate CANON Max from my HEADCANON Max, as they are different in my head. Other Characters will also have ff! in front of their name for the same reason- they're completely separate from canon and built off of the little tidbits we barely get for them in NPMD.

Who are James and Richard? These are characters in the ff! world- and Max's family. In the musical, we only get a bit about Max's home life and only get 1 family member, his dad, and how much of a dick he is to Max. Since the fic focuses on Max's life from childhood to around 25, we needed family members for him. His mother hasn't been given a name, and we're not sure if she will have one since shes- uninvolved… in his life. Richard is Max's dad and James is Max's older brother.

You ship Max with multiple people? Why is that? You don't just date one person in your life. In my rewrite, Max and Kyle date for a short time (under six months) before Max dates Richie (Current). This is to explain why Max may be aggressive to Kyle (He was very hurt and holds a grudge like a bitch) It just adds more depth to the characters, rather than having Kyle just be Max's best friend and nothing else.

Do you excuse Max's actions in the musical? Nope! He is horrible and deserves the consequences he got. But I also strongly believe in nurture over nature. You are not born horrible, Max is SEVERELY fucked up and ff! is meant to explore that, not excuse it.

Why is Max and Kyle gay in your writing? He's Bisexual- which most of the fandom leans towards for him from what I have seen. His ship with Grace is cute- but that's obsession, not love. "But he's clearly straight!" Are we looking at the same man? This man kicks his feet when he lays down and asks to cuddle! He does silly dance moves? Mans did an airplane with his arms in Literal Monster, please look again, I know what he is! /lh Kyle does come off as straight, but I'm silly, and he's silly, and I wanted him to be gay,, smiles.

Notes: I'm only going to do a handful of the MH and EMH guys (Evan, Vinny, HABIT, Tim, and Brian) since those four are the only ones I could really think of. Also, this is told in the lens that the five survived and lived past the events of their respective series and low key just be marinating in their trauma.

Tim

He knew this was going to happen

Having your kid be rebellious when their a teenager is natural and so he won't be completely blindsided when you start

Obviously he's still going to worry because he doesn't want you going out and doing things that are actually illegal

And before you mention the stuff he did. 1, it was the result of lack of medication and a paranormal and trauma force. And 2, do as he says not as he does (/hj)

He's going to be worried sick if he finds out you snuck out and he genuinely has no idea where you went and he doesn't like either ideas.

Did you sneak out to go to a party? What if something happens? He really doesn't want a call from the police department saying the party got busted and you were doing something bad.

He also worries if maybe you saw it and freaked out and fled in a daze and now you were scared and confused/disoriented

One thing that I think that would bite Tim is the idea that Tim told you growing up that you were forbade from going into woods, since that's where the Operator hangs out at the most and didn't want you to run into it. He'd always just say that you could get lost when you were little but now that you're old enough to navigate and remember routes you took the 'You'll get lost" won't work

You probably got him to quit smoking at this point

Maybe he stopped when you were born/really small but in the case that he just didn't smoke around you and continued, he would drop it if he found out you were stealing some from him to smoke too

I really do think he'd be the "Do as a say, not as I do" type of parent but in a more gentle and calm way

Brian

Brian in general is such a chill parent. He just sort of teaches you lessons about life as you go through life and all the times that kids usually learn things about life

I'm sure Brian won't really be too mad if you started doing some stuff like going to parties and doing some other things so long as you aren't actively hurting yourself in any way

Brian 100% went to parties in high school and even crashed some

To him there's things that you do while you're rebelling that he gives you as a free-by like stealing some sips of a beer and stuff like that, but if you are actively breaking a law like doing full on vandalism and distraction of property then that's when you get a scolding

He's actually really calm and collected for a man he spent a few years of his life living in the woods and setting up clues for people like so cryptid but like ig he's just built different

Honestly, rebelling isn't even rebelling. It's just Brian taking a step back and just making sure the if something bites you in the ass that he's there to pick you back up and say "What did we learn?"

Evan

I feel like under normal circumstances Evan would be the same as Brian in terms of parenting, maybe only being a little bit more strict

But with all that's happened, I feel like he's a lot more protective and worried once you get to that point

Listen he can't be too mad when you're just doing what kids do at that point in their lives

But with all the bullshit and freaks that he knows exists now, he keeps a way more closer eye on you

I do feel like he would be a bit sad because you rebelling is also meaning that you're reaching a point where you want independence, and that's fine. He would never restrict his child's independence or autonomy. You'll have to fly away from the nest someday

He's done some slightly illegal shit even before HABIT

Just some petty crimes

Obviously he's still gonna be mad or disappointed in whatever you did but if it's "Not that bad" then he'll just give you a slap on the wrist and say "Don't do that again. Okay?"

Vinny

Hates it

I'm gonna trash on him but Vinny's so going to be the dad that will tell his kid not to do something but doesn't know what to do when his kid actually does it

His authority is honestly just an illusion and he didn't realize that you would see through it at any point in your life

Vinny does worry a lot through both with the fact that paranormal stuff is out there and he's been victim to it over and over again and the fact that he knows that teenagers in their rebellious times can fall into some pretty deep shit

He sort of just grounds you whenever you do something bad like sneak out or something

He's trying his best okay

He cares for you and although he knew that you would be rebellious someday, he hadn't fully prepared for it

He knows that you're having a right of passage but he also knows that he still has to disapline you

HABIT

I only added Habit because the idea of his kid rebelling is funny as fuck

Rebelling against him would just be his child being a good and law abiding teenager
