just got 100% completion in Paper Mario: the Origami King. fun game, although I wasn't too fond of the Rubber Band and Fire Vellumental bosses in practice

hsr age estimates... i was just sorting out my thoughts since same face has everyone except the Kiddos looking like they're 20 when that's definitely not true for a good chunk of them + ages are EXTRA poorly defined due to not all the characters being human and having different life spans. so for those guys these numbers are like. vague equivalences. also using the 20s as an example "early" would be anything from 20 to 25 and "late" is 26 to 30

#every row is sorted youngest to oldest but like it kind of doesn't matter since a lot of them are around the same age #like in the early 20s row everyone from the trailblazer to guinafein is 21. maybe one or two are on the cusp of being 22 #then sparkle and qingque are 23 and tingyun's the oldest there at 24 #jing yuan is the baby of the remains of the hcq methinks...#because jingliu apprenticed him when he was close to yanqing's age give or take a year or two #so i'd say there's a good 8-10 (long life species equivalent of) years between them #so he's like 39 or 40 now while she's pushing 50 and blade isn't far behind her #the only one i pulled out of my ass is luocha. the guy barely exists to me i kinda just threw him wherever. my bad #but also idgaf -_- the guy barely exists to me.#this was a great waste of company time i love getting paid to do nothing

finished watching netflix atla! i think the hate is unjustified lol like all that hate seems a little too intense for what i think the show missed. it didn't hit all the same notes as the original show, yeah, so i'm not sure it quite succeeds as an adaptation, but as a standalone show it's pretty good. and i might have some gripes with the characterization, but there was love in the casting and in the costumes and the world, and that goes a long way for me.

I must say, it's pretty poetic that I've gotten to season 6 of Vampire Diaries right before another solar eclipse happens in America. I certainly didn't plan it, but it does feel like my timing is very appropriate with this one. I do have questions about the accuracy of the eclipse portrayal in the show, though. I mean, a solar eclipse did in fact happen on May 10, 1994, and it was visible across much of the country, so that much is accurate. But I don't think Mystic Falls would've had quite as good of a view as they show it having. For reference, here's a map of the May 1994 eclipse path (credit: timeanddate.com):

And, if you'll remember, Mystic Falls is like two hours from my old hometown just a stone's throw north of Lynchburg, Virginia, as seen on the locator spell map (this one's all over tumblr, forgive me for not remembering what blog I grabbed it from):

So if you zoom in on the timeanddate map and pick somewhere closeish to there:

It looks like Mystic Falls would be getting a little over 77% coverage or so. It's also worth noting that the '94 eclipse was an annular eclipse, not a total eclipse like tomorrow's eclipse. That still means that the moon went directly in front of the sun, but it does mean that it was small enough/far enough from earth that you didn't quite get full coverage of the sun (thanks to weather.gov for the nifty graphic):

So, I'm not positive whether it would've looked quite as dark as was shown in the show:

Although, I must admit, in this video I found on youtube of the '94 eclipse, (part of me is shocked to find footage from then but I know I shouldn't be like yes they had cameras in the 90s) it actually looks more similar than I expected it to look, but I imagine it was most likely filmed within the path of totality:

But also, when Kai takes Bonnie to Portland, don't they see the eclipse again there? I couldn't find that clip on youtube just now, but Portland barely had any eclipse--only 42-43% coverage, so it would've been way milder of a visual effect, barely any dimming in the sky noticeable without eclipse glasses.

The funny thing is, the area where I live is going to be sitting right around 80% coverage tomorrow. I was lucky enough to get to travel to Missouri for the 2017 eclipse to get into the path of totality, but I'm afraid that it hasn't worked out for me to do so this year, which is immensely disappointing to me as an astronomy enjoyer, but I do still plan to go to an eclipse party and I'm going to start saving to try and get to Spain for the next total eclipse in 2026, which is going to be right around my 30th birthday (screaming). Anyways, it isn't great, but here's my best picture from the '17 eclipse:

I didn't even have a smartphone yet then, because despite it being 2017, I was somewhat of a luddite, so I had the purple flip phone I so stubbornly clung to and a point-and-click Nikon, but I still think this picture is pretty cool for what it is. Here's the zoom in so you can really see that ring of fire (and my shaking hands doubling the image):

Obviously you can find thousands of better eclipse pictures online, but that one's still special to me because it's mine. Anyways, I'll report back with smart phone pictures from whatever I see of the 80% total eclipse tomorrow to compare and contrast with Mystic Falls's 70% annular eclipse of the 90s, because from what I've heard it's going to be much less impressive than full totality was, but I've yet to watch a partial solar eclipse, so I'll just have to find out. Also, if you happen to have any vampiric loved ones trapped in a magical prison dimension who you need help freeing during the eclipse tomorrow, let me know and I'll see what I can do! ;) Hahaha. Anyways, happy eclipse everyone, and may we all possess sufficient self restraint to avoid eye damage (says the woman who has looked at the sun unprotected so many times and is probably going to go blind because of it some day. I know what I've done lol. Don't be me.)

guess who hasn't prepared at all, has spent all evening doing everything but preparing, and should really be going to sleep now?

My cat butted up against my hand and it reminded me of when my childhood cat was starting to go senile and my mom suggested we just have her put down because she doesn't really matter once she's lost it and that she never cared about me besides being a hand that provides food (even though I was the only person in the family she was comfortable around after she'd gone totally feral out of age-induced confusion). My mom never liked that cat, even though she was a really good cat. It's not her fault she got old and couldn't remember shit. To me, that's when she needed the most care. To my mom, she deserved to be locked in the basement for the last two years of her life. And, because my mom seldom let her out and I was both in college and working full time and could only release her for a few hours daily, the basement ended up being where she felt safe, and she would only leave if I picked her up and moved her out. Which is so sad. Imagine treating a dying animal that way.

#but she's also one of those people who gets sick of animals like so fast #it's a wonder she let me keep my dog back when i got her #i probably threatened to kick the shit out of her if she got rid of my dog or something #which i know is like a 'thats something only white people do' kind of statement but no. it's because she's a sack of shit #you couldn't pay me to respect my mom #she could have me at gunpoint saying to respect her and I'd still call her a bad mom #i don't respect authority without reason and i don't respect people with the idea that having kids elevates them to being unable to do wrong #but she'd do the same with my dog when she was a puppy. locked in the basement.#shd built a cage and everything #and she'd stick my brand new like 6week old dog in this cage for 15 hours a day #and she'd hit her and scream at her #like yeah. puppies are difficult dude. they're noisy and the shit on the kitchen floor. it sucks.#and because of how my mom treated my dog when i was younger she was scared of all loud noises for the longest time #it was only after i moved out for the first time (when she was like 4) that it got better #only after my mom was out of the equation was i able to convince her that ceiling fans and bikes and cars weren't the enemy #it's a wonder she's lived this long with how bad i saw my mom slap her sometimes #or she'd just let her outside on her own hoping she'd run away and/or into traffic #and she's had like 25 dogs in the past 20 years too #and you know what happens?#she finds purebred dogs for cheap keeps them until she thinks they're no longer cute then sells them #in the meantime they're caged all day. she will not train them and demands i do because my dog is well trained.#she doesn't feed them so they don't shit in the cage #she doesn't give them water so they don't piss everywhere #every single dog she's ever owned has eaten its own shit because they're starving #they drink their own piss #the last time she got a dog he was 8 months old and didn't know basics like 'sit'#the whole family went on vacation for 2 weeks and i had him housebroken and he knew like 10 commands #they come back and for some reason she just sticks him right back in the cage and he lost it all #i trained him hoping she'd actually keep a dog for once. nope. she literally did not care.#i did the thing she asked because i was annoyed that she left me in charge of an untrained dog and it still wasn't enough

I don't know why, but I'm having dreams of wanting to be friends with others that aren't real and waking up earlier than usual It's happened twice in a row now

The first one was like me in a barn with some guys, don't feel like explaining what happened (barely remember now) but basically I was talking and laughing or something with dream logic going on, and then one of the guys gave me a note saying that I was a joy to be around and they'd maybe we'd get to know each other and be friends

And I thought something like "Sure, why not", and I woke up some time later at like, 6 or something

The second one that happened yesterday was a part where there was a teacher in a weird school that was sort of like a special ed teacher, and then later on into the dream I come back unannounced just to do some drawing that was drawing who made you happy and how you feel or whatever, and you can make multiple drawings

And the teacher drew a Grannestian and a guy being nervous for two drawings, then for the third and last drawing, it was the guy curled up and holding their ears with eyes looking at them from behind in the darkness, and she explained that she was thankful for me showing was Meteos was because so loved it so much (even though I never showed her at all) and that she had trouble making friends with the third drawing

Some whatever happened in a Lethal Company-ish game that I don't feel like explaining but, I was proud to be a part of the "community", as dream me puts it

Then I woke up a few minutes later or something

Idk if it's some kind of deep shit going on but, I have no idea of what to make of it

Series Summary

Three years ago you were normal, the only demons you had to fight were your own, and you the most you knew of Vought and the Boys were what you saw on TV. But then you met Homelander at a stupid party, and woke up the next morning in a cell.

After almost two and a half years of you being Homelander's little project, Soldier Boy was woken up only go rouge and be put back under. Somewhere in there, you escaped. And before Queen Maeve went underground, she told William Butcher about the Anomaly, a powerful supe who recently escaped Vought captivity and may have an agenda against Homelander.

One month later, the Boys found you.

You spend the next five months helping them best you can, though your control over your powers is weak and your fear of Homelander makes you useless in combat. But you get an idea. A stupid, dangerous idea that turns you into Soldier Boy's keeper, giving him a second chance to take down Homelander, you hanging over his shoulder, a threat should he want to go nuclear again. It's exhausting and frustrating, and you might kill him and yourself as soon as this is over, but you said whatever it takes.

And this is what it takes.

Author's Note

This story is non-canon compliant, with the two main differences being;

1) Butcher doesn't have brain cancer, because I said so.

2) All of Gen V didn't take place, because I don't want to deal with the whole supe-plauge thing. Also that's too many characters to keep track of squad.

Because of this, the story will start in a similar setting as s4e5, but with different events leading up to it, and will deal with similar themes and have similar events to the rest of s4, but at an inconsistent rate. If you have any questions about other, smaller changes I have made, feel free to ask!
