also I don't know what this is, just wanted to write down my thoughts

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

I think Azzie is really affectionate but mostly in private. I see him always gravitating around you and giving you small soft touches when you're in front of the ic or other people but then being clingy as hell when you're alone. This man is touch starved, he needs to catch up.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

I think you'd have to fist fight Cass for the title but he would be the best friend ever. I mean he's been nothing but soft and helpful with all of his friends. After you get past his millions of trust issues, Az is probably really easy to befriend. It might take a while for you to get to bestfriend but i don't think it would be hard.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

He demands cuddles every night. I can see him being the little spoon as often as he's the big spoon, depends on what he's feeling up to that day.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

I think that's all he wants at this point and he's probably such a good cook.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

He'd probably be really firm but also really nice about it which would actually make it hurt infinitely worse. I can see him literally going down a list of your qualities and telling you how truly amazing you are while breaking up with you. He'd make sure you were semi alright before leaving as well but still make sure you knew this was final.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Well he craves commitment but he also has been running from it for over 500 years so I think it's a complicated feeling. I think he wants commitment more than anything but is also a tiny bit afraid of it and he only wants it with the right person.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

He's so gentle I could cry. He's been waiting all his life for someone to love and he will treat you with the most care possible both emotionally and physically.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

I don't see Az being that much of a hugger but he probably gives the best hugs. Both arms (and wings) wrapped around you and face buried in your neck or in your hair type of hugs.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

I'm not sure he's ever said it to someone romantically (probably hasn't said it too many times platonically either) so it would probably take a while. He'd want to make sure it will really work out before saying it. You'd probably have to say it first.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

I know this is supposed to be sfw but he probably ties you up with his shadows and fucks you within an inch of your life. I don't think he'd be getting jealous all that often (excluding the typical mate possessiveness) but he'd still fuck you extra hard just to make sure. Besides that I think he could actually feel really hurt by it if it's a more serious scenario like imagine you've been hanging out with someone a lot and he starts to feel excluded. In that case I think his abandonment issues would resurface and you'd have to remind him how much you love him and how silly it would be to even entertain the idea of wanting someone else.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

He gives the best kisses and I will not take any criticism on this. Like soul consuming type of kisses. Not only does he have 500 years of practice but even when he was young I just know he made sure to perfect it because he can't do anything half assed. His shadows might even give him little tips

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

He has such a calming presence that I just know kids love him. And his shadows probably give him brownie points. He's probably awkward at first though.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

Well he trains at the crack of dawn so you'd probably wake up to an empty bed :/ but he'd always kiss your cheek before leaving even if you're unaware. Might even leave you little notes on your nightstand sometimes.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

Reading in bed together. Cuddling covered in his shadows, completely hidden away from the rest of the world. Tucked away and watching over everyone at parties with the rest of the inner circle. Flying over velaris when his insomnia gets the best of him. Cute picnic dates in an isolated place somewhere only the two of you know. (I didn't wanna say fucking because this is sfw but let's be honest). I think every night with Azriel would make you fall in love with him all over again.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

It would take time for Azriel to really open up and I definitely think he'd go bit by bit.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

I think he tries to be as patient as possible but let's not forget he almost killed Eris and was the first to speak up when Tamlin was insulting Feyre. He's probably really patient normally, especially with his partner and family, but when he gets angry I think it boils over quickly.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

He remembers everything about you to the point you suspect he has a journal with every little detail.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

Is it too cheesy to say he cherishes every moment he's had with you? He definitely cherishes just having you there in the moments he felt lonely before. Like coming home from a mission and instead of an empty room you're right there waiting for him, probably staying up to see him even when he tells you it's not necessary. When he has nightmares and you're right there comforting him and kissing his tears away. At family dinners when he doesn't have to feel jealous of his brothers and just reaches out and kisses your hand making you smile at him and have him thank the Mother for the thousandth time for gifting him the blessing of a mate as lovely as you.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

He's really protective. Probably keeps some of his shadows around you to make sure you're alright at all times. But I think he also wants to feel protected since he had so many times when no one was protecting him.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

He would go above and beyond every time. Always searching for new restaurants that cook your favorite foods or picnic spots that would take your breath away. He would give you the most thoughtful gifts too, things you barely remember mentioning. He'd give you these gifts out of nowhere too. He'd spoil you rotten really.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

I don't see him being great at communicating. If he feels hurt by something i think he'd pull back instead of addressing it. I feel like he has some passive aggressiveness in him as well.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

I don't think Azzie is as nonchalant about his looks as he appears to be. He's not as concerned as Rhys but I don't think he's that far off either.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

Yes which makes me a bit sad.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

Azriel pets and feeds stray cats and you can't convince me otherwise. He's also the top benefactor of every shelter in the night court.

Not sleeping. jk He loves sleeping on his stomach with his face buried in your neck or chest and will literally purr if you pet his hair. I think he'd pull you to him unconsciously as well.

either lashes out at you or the lamb due to feeling that youve been assigned as a babysitter to make sure she doesnt do anything- sure, the lamb has no reason to trust her or her siblings to behave themselves in the cult BUT that doesnt make it any less humiliating!

she does get used to your company with time- youre stubborn... talking together is easy because youve taken the time to learn sign language and youre more than happy to teach her

you leave her baskets with various teas and medicines to help soothe her throat on days where it hurts more- due to strain or weather or its simply one of her worst days... shes thankful for your effort but she shows it through guiding you on what works for her and what she likes

torn between him expecting you to tend to his every need and him being too nervous to push things and risk punishment from you or the lamb- you are a disciple after all, you can do things other followers arent permitted to do - and... oh youre... spending time with him because you genuinely want to?

i personally headcanon that hes hard of hearing, probably deaf in one of his ears... he can still hear just barely- he takes you up on any offers to teach him sign to help minimize problems down the line

loooooooves the little care packages you leave for him- treats, goodies, and generally stuff he can use to upkeep himself- its nice still receiving "offerings" after everything!

you... actually come in handy in helping keep them on track as well as reminding them of things they need to do or things that have been said- things have gotten so much harder since theyve lost their crown so your help is appreciated

one of the things you leave for them is ink and journals so they can keep track of things on their own when youre not around as well as generally granting them a space to put down their own thoughts in a private setting

your kindness makes you easy to talk to, you both do a lot of that... well... actually its mostly you doing most of the talking. shamura does a lot of listening but they prompt you to keep going or tries to find a subject to fill the silence

even if you were sent by the lamb to keep an eye on them theyd understand- if they were in the lambs place and decided to spare them theyd have someone to keep an eye on them... not really that offended about it plus they get a companion!

Honestly its hard to even limit this within the confines of starting the actual manga. I genuinely think I'd have to say my real first impression of Laios was the "autism be damned, my boy can work a grill" joke that gets passed around a lot 😭

Loves his friends and family so much. Let him infodump!!!!! A guy that can character arc so hard he becomes a king because its the only way to deal with the things he can no longer let himself look away from. A guy who wants to eat a good meal. A guy who wants everyone to eat a good meal.

A guy who can be all that and still kind of pettily complain that he doesn't get to hang out with monsters anymore & can mope about it soooo annoyingly. A guy who decided to eat the concept of all-consuming hunger because it was the only way to deal with the problem so he might as well try. A guy who can completely change his life by deciding to share his special interest. A guy who can imitate a dog really well.

Favorite moment

Don't make me choooose... okay I'm gonna do three:

1. Assembling Falin's bones with Marcille

The humor. The patience. The slow realization that, despite how absurd of a task it is, it is actually all possible. The moments of admiration for the way skeletons work, the love of the details, the care of assembling all three skeletons just to make sure they get Falin right. Iconic scene.

2. Killing Falin

"Unable to make myself accept. Unable to make myself resist" lives in my soul now idk what else to say. Life is so vibrant and horrifying and raw and beautiful and to let yourself fully be a part of it you must take up space. You must consume. You must fight. You must take and be taken from. Ourgh

3. Talking Marcille down

I love that he looks so goofy on his way up to her. I love the context of how much he refuses to give up on her leading up to this, and how he refuses to give up on her now. I love how everyone is part of this scene, but he's the first one to cross the threshold. I love how she almost blows him up but can't do it (fun fact: this exact situation/post was how she killed Mithrun a couple of chapters ago. It was close).

I love the way he appeals to her mostly just with messy honesty, and I love the silly three rules callback. It's such a sweet chapter.

Also honorary mention for the final page of the story, which gets me every time.

Idea for a story

I'm actually currently fiddling with a longer story concept dealing with the question of Laios needing an heir. Dungeon Meshi is grounded enough in politics that it genuinely feels like a question that the characters will have to grapple with at some point. At the same time, there's no way that like arranged marriage and even having kids in general are not messy topics for Laios and I don't think anyone involved would want to force him to be miserable.

(I also don't personally like the idea of Falin as his heir ftr, bc I think forcing Falin into that role sucks and I don't think anyone would go for it)

So how DO they deal with the issue? Idk! I might write a long meandering story about it! Maybe! I want to, at least.

Unpopular opinion

Ughhhh I don't realllly want to poke this with a stick but yeah I definitely think my most generic (apparently????) Unpopular Opinion with Laios is just that his relationship with Marcille is meaningful and loving. I personally don't view it as romantic and they mean a lot to me as a platonic-life-partners kind of thing, but I also think that dividing relationships in general into Ships TM and Definitely Not Ships isn't really appealing to me personally. I just care them.

(at the same time I really do worry about trying to write about them and it being taken as romantic despite me very intentionally not framing it as such. idk, navigating this stuff is complicated.)

Favorite relationship

UGHHHH LIKE. It is probably him and Marcille. But it's so hard to rank that against him and Falin. Both relationships mean a lot to me and I love them and I love to think about them.

Because him and Marcille have more on the page interactions to dig into and because I don't see them discussed as much, I do tend to gravitate to Marcille & Laios stuff above all else. But like.... don't make me actually commit to picking.

Favorite headcanon

I can't think of a strong answer for this so I'm going to make one up on the spot: I think he giggled to himself soooo much when he included the winged lion in his king outfit but made it so that it looks like the wolf head is eating it. I think he continues to giggle about it years later. I think he gets dressed in the morning and puts on his cloak and goes "get ate, idiot" as he fastens it around his shoulders.

Oh actually for a more genuine headcanon related to the story thing I mentioned above: I think Laios is really good with kids but would be scared of having any of his own. I think he'd have trouble with the classic "I don't want to mess them up the way my dad messed me up" abused kid struggle.

gn!reader | mhin time! :3 i'm going to let the knowledgeable and big brained people mostly take care of monster mhin bc I fear a girl like me is silly and less capable...

as for my limited monster thoughts it'd be nice if their first transformation was done to protect you rather than an involuntary thing and letting it act as a symbol for your growing relationship. but Who Knows at this point

i assume there's some level of lost conscience when they transform So if there's a scene where some part of them refrains from hurting you I Will Start Eating Tree Bark.

Oh...and a scene where they've transformed back and you try to help them...them flinching and confused (though their voice comes out angry? frustrated? at first) about why you haven't run away....letting you cover them and bandage their injuries... 😵‍💫

moving on. they're on the verge of if not threatening people when it comes to co-op games like pico park or heave ho, especially if they're playing with people like vere and ais. no one's ever heard them speak this much someone needs to get them out of there

secretly enjoys when you send posts that remind you of them. the first few times they're like ? what do i do with this. but learn to appreciate it even if they don't actually reply in chat (sometimes if you're like "this is u" and it's Too accurate mhin's like Can you stop no it isn't (yes it is))

"when you're complaining about someone and your best friend is meaner" or however that trend goes. that's them. very direct with saying that person sounds like shit and you should stop talking to them

mhin may not like big, loud festivals, but i think they'd enjoy celebrating things with you alone ^^ maybe eating their favourite dish (tang yuan?)....it'd mean a lot to have someone to share with again

also!! having it for the first time and them mentioning their family and the last time they had it with people... the intimacy of it all...

and !! they reciprocate it!! they do!! they take note of any festivities you say you like, especially one that you wish you could celebrate or haven't in a long time. whether it's cultural, your birthday, your pet's birthday—mhin plans something for you and 'offers' to spend time together that day if you'd like. 'offers' as in shows up and mentions they'll be free some time in the conversation

^ more for the beginning of a relationship (platonic or romantic)... it'll take time, they'd be more direct eventually!

they care for you quietly and by...noticing. folding your laundry and putting it away when they know you're busy. picking up your favourite snacks when they notice you're running out. automatically getting ready to catch you or pull you back when the time calls for it. watching you from across the room at a party and noting where you are and how long you've been gone. that kind of deal

mhin's wary and off-put by being spoiled, but if you're stubborn enough, you'll find them using whatever you got pretty regularly. for example they'll tell you they don't Need a new softer comfier blanket, theirs is Fine, but then the one you buy is the only one they ever want to use. they will pretend like it isn't a big deal if you try to tease them about it

they don't like reading things online and would rather have a physical book. not that i'm projecting or anything of course. they take care of them too and don't lend them to just anybody

i think mhin has actual bookmarks, or would at least like them. they might also use a receipt to mark their page but won't fold the corners...

they always put books back where they found them at the library/book store. if they find one in the wrong section, they'll put it in the right place themself

they can get upset, but don't cry super easily, but that's mostly because they've gotten used to suppressing their emotions. they do their best to channel it into anger instead

mhin isolating themself when they're upset,, conflicted over wanting to be happy and letting themself drown in the sadness. but in the end they hope and survive and will continue to do so

hmm... keeps information of their family and history close to them, but at some point i do think they'd (bittersweetly) share stories with quiet fondness

mhin seems like a silver jewelry kind of person but i just think they'd look really nice with gold earrings while pushing their hair behind their ear...

they see You in formal attire for the first time and keep trying to glance at you the entire night btw. they might not take initiative to compliment you, but if you ask if you look alright, they'll say yes you look nice

if you're an introvert and you both finally get home after a long day out, it's just like. Thank god. and i think they'd understand if you'd rather spend time alone to recover ^^ but depending on the crowd there will be a gossip/complaint session at some point

mhin is one of the top LI's for me when it comes to scenes of like, fixing their collar/clothes. the intimacy of them clasping your necklace, the tension and bated breath because you've never been this close. the surprise on their face when you reach to fix their hood etc.

they enjoy sneaking up on you. they end up in some corner of the room and while you're scanning the crowd to look for them, they suddenly speak from behind you. there's a hint of an amused smile when you jump

2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?

Very, very easy. For a massive murder machine, he's got a certain... whimsy? It makes him easily delighted by rather mundane experiences, easily impressed by quick retorts and wordplay, easily amused.

One of the things that I think people often find unsettling about him is that his cruelty and depravity exist alongside a genuine, earnest cheerfulness, a joie de vivre that's hard to square with all-consuming bloodlust. But the thing about him is that, in large part, nothing that's going on in his life—his need to kill, the dangerous company he keeps, the risks he takes—are a problem to him. As far as he's concerned, he's having fun, his life is never boring, and he's doing what he likes to do.

So he's a happy guy, and he laughs a lot, because every day's a beautiful day to be a blight upon mankind.

20. If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so?

When those other people are people with whom he has little attachment, none at all; he is unforgiving of even the slightest flaws among those that don't matter to him (a category that includes almost everyone). He can reason his way around caring about things that usually grate on him if doing so allows him to continue viewing his lover as his perfect companion.

43. If someone asked them to explain their sexuality, how would they do so?

I answered this one here; the gist of it is that he'd define his sexuality in terms of his general openness and desire for a wide range of one-and-done sex partners.

Something I didn't state in that answer but which I think I ought to elaborate on is that he's nondiscriminating when it comes to most standard ways people define their sexual preferences (gender, age, body type, etc.) specifically because he sees other people as distinguished primarily by being Not Like Him. He generally believes he's not a person! As far as he's concerned, he's in one category, and all humanoids are in the other category. That is the most important dividing line. All else is trivial in comparison.

A. Why are you excited about this character?

He's kind of a distillation of every character trope I love. I've got a track record of immediately latching onto the most depraved and unwell characters, especially when they're also kind of silly, dramatic, and flamboyant on top of being horrible to be around. I especially love stories with terrible codependent relationships between people who are the living embodiment of that one Reddit AITA response that's like, "Your relationship is a train wreck, and you deserve each other. You must stay together, because you should never be allowed to inflict yourselves on other people."

I love the sheer drama built into the Dark Urge—the glory of being very nearly an incarnation of a god, the horror of being an incarnation of a god of murder, and the pathos of the betrayal. There's so much potential there. I'm excited by how much I can put him through because of all that.

Also, I think he's hot. I made some design decisions for him with the intention that I'd find him weird-looking and creepy, not hot, and that worked for a while, but then I started finding him hot anyway. You can tell approximately when this happened because it's when I went from posting mostly not-porn art of him to mostly porn art of him.

D. Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?

He hasn't changed much! I mean, I'm not 100% consistent with my drawings of him, so his face varies a little bit each time I draw him, but overall I feel like I nailed down my desired appearance for him pretty early on and have mostly just been working to get it consistent.

I did change the shape of his ears, though. A lot of my earlier drawings of him gave him standard pointy elf ears. I don't remember exactly when I switched to giving him the squared-off low, angular ears he's got now, but I think it was maybe six to eight months ago.

Sometimes I feel like his features are kind of going through a constant game of Telephone, in which some things get pushed just a little bit further each time I draw him. The U-shaped forehead wrinkle thing (I'm gonna be so honest. I don't know what that is. But it's important to me that it's on there) that he's got going on is a very distant evolution of two weird little marks I put between his eyebrows the very first time I ever drew him. Same thing with his triangle eyebrows—just a slow, bit by bit translation of an original shape. And I think I make his irises a bit smaller every single time I draw him. But for the most part, all those things feel like variations on themes that have been there since the beginning.

Speaking of, here's a quick little side-by-side of the very first time I ever drew him (holy shit what a blast from the past) and a recent one (ignore that the face tattoo on the recent one is just scribbles. I get lazy with it when I don't expect that I'll ever be zooming in on it)

I am honestly open to nearly all ships due to the fact my aro-ace ass simply doesn't require them to live BUT I do have few that either sparks my interest or i think they work pretty well :3 I also go by the logic they are robots and relationships cannot be really compared to humans. Earth x Eclipse - I don't what it is with Earth cracking the harshest personalities but my god, Eclipse v4 warming up to her to the point of tolerating was a feat and sparks immense joy. Allowing Earth to hug him and hang out? Chat? Feel loved? Absolutely precious. Earth respects his boundaries and at the same time Eclipse appreciates her embracing his persona. It's just such a good premise for a slightly odd but good couple. I love it. Sun x Eclipse (many versions) - Canon divergence with Sun and Eclipse working it out? YES. Solar and his original Sun? My god please yes. Oh, what's his? Lord Eclipse and his Servant Sun? Mhm mhm yes. Excellent. So many potentials. So many ways to roll with the ship. Can be loving or spicy or unhealthy. So many choices. Nexus x Solar - do I even have to explain. I think many feels similar about this one. Nexus as new moon found his Sun, even if that Sun is eclipsed. Solar desperately needed someone to love and appreciate him. I am both friend shipping them and shipping, both works for me beautifully.

Sun x Moon - ho boi a controversial one but hey, what is the multiverse for if not ship anything you want (especially since it was even confirmed in canon that romantic DCAs are as normal and common as brotherly bonds or coworkers or absolutely hating each other). They are AIs inhibiting robotic bodies. They are synthetic beings and their understanding of bonds are different than the ones of a biological critters. They are a bundle of codes that try to understand the convoluted partnerships and roles among each other. Protective Moon and caring Sun may decide their bond is on the romantic spectrum. Cos who knows Sun better than their Moon? What is Moon without their Sun? :) Those would be the ones that stick to my brain. Thank you for making the small sharing time! They're literally my first ship (just normal SunChips) in this fandom and ough. Ough. I literally never even considered the idea of shipping the sillies until I found out that this fandom has a fucking ao3 tag. I was still mostly in the UTMV fandom when I started watching TSAMS, and my poor fandom then was burning while I was slowly jumping ship.

I think they're sweet. I don't see them as romantic myself, but I support those who do. They remind me of the relationship my brother had with his best friend.

I think the fandom is slowly getting over their whole general "every sun and moon HAS to be related and platonic" since we have people hardcore shipping Helios (dark sun) and Nexus. He started teasing you, and flirting in a way that wasn't straight up, but made you rethink life and become frustrated because he was flirting one second and then the next he was acting like nothing happened? Yeah, no! So once it became too much for you (one day while you guys were hanging out and it happened again) you angrily yelled your confession into his face (you called him a little shit for playing with your heart, and you were so angry in the moment you didn't even care about the answer [in the moment]). He had that smug face as he told you he feels the same way and also likes you, that made you even more angry - basically your first ever kiss was a very angry one initiated by you.

- he doesn't buy you many gifts, not because he's like Azul, but he believes they should be special because if you received a gift everytime you saw each other, you would appreciate them less and less. That's why you only receive mushrooms from him (it's on you what you do with them - he told you [what will you do? Cuz I would throw them out]) regularly. He does bring flowers to dates for you, though, because he heard that it's a human custom, so he tries to appeal to you

- which brings me, the inter-relationship situation would be the best with Jade. Because he's so smart, he spent a lot of time looking into humans, and you're like a cool person so you looked into merfolk once you became friends with the bubble guppies, so it's like very balanced. You communicate well about matters, and it's just so? Nice??? There's still some misunderstandings here and there, but it's definitely very little! (And both of you sometimes forget, since you lived with only your customs for most of your lives, but since the situation is the same, there's the mutual understanding and all is well at the end of the day)

- you quickly become the couple everyone's talking about at NRC (not gonna lie, it feeds your ego as much as it does Jade's, so you two just feel powerful)

- dates with him are usually outside activities, but like calm. Walks, sightseeing (since none of you are from around the NRC location originally), HIKING, and sometimes you swim together. You enjoy them greatly, because Jade just looks so happy, and that's all you care about

- he still pulls pranks on you and treats you like a test subject. But it is slightly less than before and most of them are harmless! Which is good! You don't fear for your life as much anymore

- platonic: would be different from dating. He still would protect you, and do many of the things he does in a relationship. BUT. He will treat you like shit also. It's not the nice balance anymore, you fear for your life. Everyday is a challenge with Jade around and you sometimes question if he actually likes you. He does, since he doesn't necessarily 🙄 want you dead, okay?

- I love Floyd but I have a hard time writing for him, so I want to apologize if it isn't as great 😔

- now, it is no secret Floyd doesn't think much. Not in a "he's stupid" way, but in a "speaks whatever is on his mind" way. If he was in the Saiki K. universe, Saiki would destroy his existence.

- the relationship, though, is very fresh but you can never expect what will happen. Floyd has scary mood swings, but you both have made a set rules to follow when it happens. Like if he gets too angry and you're actually scared, you are allowed to simply leave and protect yourself (he will be angry about it in the moment but once he's feeling better he will praise you for acting as you should've have), it is stressful, but you can live with it.

- he remembers the craziest things, especially if it has something to do with you (but also other random things). Your birthday, of course, but even if you two are talking and you just mentioned the tiniest bit of like, your previous life lore EVEN if it's was a mistake because you just blurted something you remembered in the moment, he will remember. "Didn't you say you had a friend who liked this?" "Oh, weren't you 5 the last time you had this?" "Now that was the name of your first pet, this one is: ". And it's scary! How does he have such good memory? I don't know!

- he gets distracted easily, so you have to get used to it

- he does these things... Zoomies. Like dogs? You know when dogs have this burst of energy and they start running and jumping around? Yeah, Floyd does that. He just starts circling you, or runs after someone he was and wants to bully (you're just glad it isn't you, tbh)

- dates with him, though, are very lazy. He does make awesome plans, but you two meet up, he tells you he doesn't feel like it anymore and so you just end up lazing around and cuddling, then he gets angry so he talks to you about his anger, then he gets sleepy so you nap, then he gets excited so he shows you the things he has in his room or at the dorm and then he suddenly wants you to go home

- I promise he actually loves you.

- you guys say "I love you" to each other a lot. Even though some observers will say you overuse the phrase, both of you know that no matter where or how you say it, it holds the same meaning as it does during intimate and weak moments. You guys love each other, why not let the other person know?

- platonic: basically the relationship but without the kisses and "I love you"s. I believe he's a cuddler and a hand holder even without any romantic feelings.

Hirano to Kagiura Vol.4 Extra Analysis: "Oniichan"

One of the extras in H&K vol.4 is about Hirano and Kagiura calling each other "(o)niichan" ("big brother" in english). Is this extra mostly a silly thing about a conversation they had when studying while being tired? Yes. Did my brain get stuck on it anyway? Also yes. In my defense, their reactions to being called oniichan makes way too much sense for these characters and how they want their relationship to be. So I'm going to talk about that.

Both Hirano and Kagiura get really excited getting called oniichan (can't really blame them for that, they both look adorable saying it) and embarrassed saying it. But there are still quite a few important differences. But first I'm going to talk about why they would react the way they do to being called oniichan.

Hirano gets excited in a purehearted way. I think the reason reacts that way is two-fold. First reason is related to Hirano's reaction to Kagiura telling about his siblings. Hirano thinks that they sound really close. Hirano isn't interested in getting closer to Kagiura in a romantic sense, but getting closer in a more platonic sense? Given how easily Hirano has accepting being close to Kagiura in all kinds of ways as long as it wasn't thought of in a romantic way, I don't think Hirano would mind. He'd might even want that.

Secondly, Hirano is naturally the kind to take care of people and especially loves to take care of Kagiura. Currently he gets to do that as his roommate and senpai. As "oniichan" he falls even more into the caretaker for Kagiura role. The way I see it, going the "big brother" route (instead of the romantic one) would be similar to their current relationship, only more so. Which Hirano is probably very much in favor for. He has, after all, been mainly fighting for keeping their current relationship since Kagiura confessed to him.

Basically, Kagiura calling Hirano for niichan basically implies a relationship like the one they have currently, but even more so. Which Hirano would like, and Kagiura very much wouldn't. It's the opposite when Hirano calls Kagiura oniichan.

Kagiura's reaction to being called oniichan honestly makes me wonder if he has an oniichan kink, but I digress. I talked before about how the one being called oniichan is in the caretaker role. And Kagiura has been working hard on making Hirano rely on him. It's been mostly framed as Kagiura wanting to equals with Hirano, but with how much he liked Hirano being "needy" with him and this extra, Kagiura clearly also just likes being able to take care of Hirano. So Kagiura likes this role reversal a lot. Hirano does not.

In the end, Kagiura decides that he's fine with calling Hirano oniichan as long as Hirano said it back, while Hirano absolutely does not want to say it again. Kagiura was originally against it because then Hirano would never see him in a romantic light, but that is less of a problem when Kagiura isn't stuck in the "little brother" role. Also, looking at it through the lens of who the caretaker is, it's not like Kagiura doesn't like being taken care of by Hirano. He just has a problem with it being this one-sided.

Meanwhile, we've never really seen Hirano be in the role of the one being taken care of. Like, his idea of being needy with Kagiura is waking up even earlier to spend time with him, or being taught basketball by him. Neither of which is really letting Kagiura take care of Hirano as much as Hirano takes care of Kagiura. Being taken care of by Kagiura just isn't really something Hirano is interested in. Any way he does let Kagiura take care of him is because Kagiura wants to take care of him. So when he calls Kagiura oniichan he just gets embarrassed and doesn't really get anything positive out of being in the "little brother" role.

Now I want to see a chapter where Hirano is sick so he is forced to let Kagiura take care of him. Based on this extra, I think Hirano would have some trouble with it.

Gogo & Mog - Mog, the last and lonely moogle, and the mimic who mocks him with their dances...or is it mocking? Is it attempted comfort of a sort?

Mog & Relm - Mog & Relm attempt a recursive dance of a sketch of a dance with startling results! I like how silly they both can be... Let them be silly...

Mog & Sabin - Sabin giving Mog a piggy back ride that is all. Wait no actually that's not all. Sabin being the younger fraternal twin and Mog being a member of a race where they were all practically identical to the untrained eye means they both have some interesting perspective about being seen for who they are rather than as representative of where they come from...

Alma/Cabanela/Jowd (or any /& subset therof) - What would put Cabanela into a situation where it was Alma who had to rescue him, from high stakes or low? How does Jowd "help" (read: hamper) her efforts because he's Jowd. Jowd, please.

Alma & Emma - Alma is hired to test security at the Justice Minister's compound as a fake cat burglar, and runs afoul of Emma in some way. They probably know each other, distantly, so how will Alma manage to finish the job with reputation intact? Will Emma pass the security test? Will the Justice Minister ever recover?

Cabanela & Jowd & Missile - Cabanela & Jowd chasing after Missile in rain or snow or something suitably messy; Missile has an important piece of evidence, maybe a Temsik chunk in his mouth. (Art prompt, although feel free to flesh out the circumstances here... I'd love to know how this all started!)

Cabanela & Missile - Cabanela attempts to have Missile sniff out a target as a test of his puppy skills (Jowd? Sissel? Pigeon Man?) It... doesn't exactly go as planned? (Missile likes the way Cabanela smells too much maybe?)

Cabanela & Pigeon Man: Cabanela recognizes Pigeon Man is in a particularly foul mood by the way Lovey's drooping one evening. How does he cheer up the prickly cactus man so The Case can go on? Wait... are they... is this turning into actual friendship? (cue dramatic Cabanela swoon)

Cassius & Olivier | Olivert - That moment between them in SC lives in my mind forever. They're a menace together and I love them. More menace-ness would be great, maybe immediately following the events of the Ark when Ragnard touches down on the Arseille's deck with Cassius and his kids... Olivier is there to greet them in style!

Estelle & Kloe | Klaudia - the play at Jenis is me-bait and I think of Julius & Oscar every single day (hyperbole but not by much!). They should reenact scenes from it in Phantasma for the crew during some downtime when the main party (whoever you choose for that to be) is out and about. I'm sure Celeste would be happy to provide sets and costumes!

Lila/Maybelle - They're just so sweet together and I love their dynamic, especially when they reverse it after Lila gets hurt. I just like them taking care of each other with all their hearts... but I like them both being hyper-competent and keeping up with their jobs even despite mutual encouragement to take it easier too. Sickfic always good, or vacation-gone-wrong...

Olivier & Alfin - Something in between SC & 3rd, or something right after, when Olivert is suddenly being much more Olivierish again and Alfin can easily see his heart's not completely in Erebonia... (please don't go into the Schera situation with this. I absolutely do not want an Olivier/Schera focus or even mention if avoidable, thank you!)

Olivier | Olivert &/ Mueller - Mueller's exasperated tenderness with Olivier during the star door in 3rd haunts me. Falcom you are cowards and fools, just saying, and if I didn't love these games so much I would fly to Japan and fight you over walking back Olivier's bisexualness in CS. Anyway, I will always take a moment, shippy or otherwise, between these two old friends. Is there ever a moment when Olivier gets truly exasperated at Mueller for being so, well... stodgy? Olivier encouraging Mueller whimsy and Mueller being surprisingly "OK maybe I would say that... sometimes" about it?

Olivier | Olivert & Kloe | Klaudia - Those times when the rumors of Prince Olivert coming to Liberl to negotiate a political marriage with Princess Klaudia started swirling greatly amuse me in retrospect. Not sure how it would work out timeline wise but the idea of them having a little gossip sesh about the royals while both of them are still actively being Kloe and Olivier before the reveals is incredible...

Ries &/ Kevin - Sharing memories of Rufina and mourning together after 3rd, maybe even having a little ceremony or wake (with lots of food, natch) so they can say goodbye to the real her, not the Phantasmal memory...

for those that are new here, i've been writing tifa a long time and so the things i post on this blog are just how i, a longtime fan, see her. it is 'canon' to me at this point but doesn't have to be canon for you. it's just for people to know where i stand on certain things i don't want to elaborate on later:

her scar isn't completely coverable by her ( remake ) clothing. the average person wouldn't notice it when talking to her but if you pay attention, you can see the bottom edge of the scar at the top of her abdomen.

i acknowledge most of traces of two pasts - the only thing that feels a little silly is tifa has the martial arts prowess she has because...she did some stances in a shipping container for years instead of really actively fighting? i'll be throwing that out. i like the idea of her earning a reputation of being the bun-seller that beats people's butts when they try to steal money in sector 8 ( because i definitely think people would've tried to rob her multiple times ).

i subscribe to her and og!jessie being friends and that jessie is partially who got her into avalanche. remake!jessie though? eh.

she cuts her hair after meteorfall. it's mostly out of feeling a lack of control and out of place in her life. just wanting to start anew ( or as she says in case of tifa, 'wash everything away, including herself' ). tifa believes in superstitions and remembers the elders back home telling her that hair held memories, so she chops it off before shaping into more of a pixie cut. by the time of AC, she's started to keep it at more of a bob level.

i don't view marlene as tifa's adoptive mother anymore; i used to - especially considering how tifa herself refers to her as her daughter. however, i also feel like tifa aggressively needs to work on herself post-game and in between burying herself under work, talking care of children, and worrying about cloud...she can't do that. so in my canon, while she's not raising her in that way, she is still helping raise her as more of a big sister figure. ( i also think the way SE wrote barret out in CoT was racist and has led to the erasure of him as marlene's father in certain circles which i do not approve of! ).

what about denzel? my general default is that she's not raising him either.

barret remains in edge and acts as one of the leading voices helping to shape edge's future ( because running to go find oil is silly ). if there's a mayor eventually, i see barret being the city's first.

elmyra also lives in edge ( i don't like how she's barely heard of post-game ). her and tifa form an aunt / niece type of relationship - especially after marle eventually passes. her and barret also have developed a lol romance because who wouldn't fall in love with barret's big ole' beautiful brown eyes-

she gets a cat again sometime in between meteorfall and AC. tifa thrives off taking care of things so it helps her ( and also with loneliness when cloud leaves ).

on cloud specific stuff: i write their relationship platonic by default ( they're roommates or living separately but still running joint businesses together ). i only write them romantically with one person so the following is written with that in mind. this is a bit long because i have not talked about the 'big thing' from rebirth at all here:

on the kiss: i liked it and also didn't - which sums up my overall feelings on cl*ti a lot of the time quite well lmao. it's mostly because...it doesn't matter? they don't talk about it or address it ever again in the story. their romantic relationship doesn't progress after it. it literally doesn't matter. someone could play this game and never even know a kiss even happened ( and there are people who don't know! ). i'm not someone who obsesses over the romances in these games and i'm a fan of both 'ships' but i can't help but feel the handling of this feels a bit weird ( and by weird, i mean bad ). it feels like a disservice to the characters and their relationships with each other when you have things written out like a bioware romance rather than giving me impactful moments i expect out of a FF game.

i personally always expected them to kiss but i thought it would be a big 'moment' during the highwind scene in part 3 - not suteki da ne level of big but more than just...idk what the gold saucer scene was. it felt a little rushed and awkward to me personally. and honestly? tifa getting the courage to hold cloud's hand before that left more of an impression on me than them kissing did ( but i also said 'aw' / squealed a little when cloud held aerith's hand on their date so maybe i just have a thing for hand holding lol )

either way, i think the core of why it annoys me because it exists in the same plane of ambiguity that their relationship does in AC. i was not a cl/oti fan at all when i first got into this series. couldn't stand it but when i watched AC or read CoT, tifa and cloud read like a couple to me. they talked like a couple to me. they argued like a couple to me. the obvious intent of having them raise denzel and marlene was for them to feel like a 'traditional' family.

all they were missing was a dog and a picket fence.

but throughout the novel and AC, there's always enough ambiguity to read them as the opposite way too. they're never referred to as a couple. they're never said to be dating. we never see moments of romantic affection between them and i believe they have separate rooms if my memory is correct. tifa asks cloud if he loves her ( and she's clearly not asking as a friend ) and we never get a clear answer on it because she changes the question to if he loves marlene when he fully wakes up. ( and i know some shippers like to ignore this when they bring up them wearing matching rings, but barret wears one too. he's part of their family even if people ignore it >.> ).

in AC, cloud is choosing to die in the church that aerith refers to as 'their place'. i remember talking to an artist who shipped cl/erith and they mentioned they felt CoT/AC was showing a failing relationship - i personally saw a struggling one that eventually ends up in a better place at the end of AC but i can see their POV in a way. but the fact that we can have such wildly different interpretations just feels like a massive problem to me but SE is gonna flame the ship war forever, so it is what it is.

-the point summer, what is it?: i'm getting there! in my 'canon', they're actively dating: they share a bedroom, they share trauma, they're extremely awkward but affectionate towards each other, etc. it takes awhile before they openly come out as a couple but that's what they are.

cloud still leaves though and it's still equaly devastating to tifa. she still pulls herself together and keeps order because that's what she has to do. but overall, i'm more interested in cloud and tifa having to actually get to know each other, close the distance between them, and learn how to healthily communicate ( they're both terrible at it ). rebirth fixed my issues with their writing in remake because i didn't buy the 'super best childhood friends' stuff it was selling.

the entire appeal of cl*ti to me is the miscommunication, the barrier between them despite how desperately they want to talk to each other, how they both hold each other up on a pedestal in different ways, and most importantly, how they don't really know each other. rebirth showed that! it feed me! literally cheered when tifa says something like 'i guess we were don't know each other that well' and cloud is like 'well we can fix that now.' because that's what it's all about!!!

the lifestream scene, at least to me, is them finally seeing each other and accepting each other for who they are. post-game cl*ti should be about finally fulfilling the promise to each to learn and accept each other who they are!!! i don't want them playing house, i want #that!

You have no idea what you've just unleashed. You just asked me, the person who has to have an opinion on borderline everything, my thoughts and feelings on the ships for the game I've been hyperfixating on for over half a year.

This is gonna be probably a long one full of unhinged and disjointed rambles about Science Party, so click if you wanna see that. I love rambling about TF2 and these guys, which is funny since 99% of this is me being delusional and making stuff up (despite talking about it like it's canon).

Now, I should put something here first and foremost. I don't actually...ship any of the characters romantically that much. Even my OTP is literally a queer-platonic pairing. It's mostly because I see the mercs as all being good buddy chum friends, despite them all being queer as hell. Yes, I love and reblog ship art and ship discussions like a madman, but I think my aro/ace brain just likes thinking of them more as all being pals. Also doesn't help I headcanon a third of them as being aro/ace (though only one is negative/repulsed by romance and sex, the others are neutral and positive respectively).

I suppose let's start off with the ship that's entirely rotted my brain: Science Party, or Engie/Medic. I don't think I've quite been this obsessed over a relationship as I've been with this one. Like,, any other ship I've encountered, I either like or don't like them. If I like them, I feel inclined to make content about it and just have some fun with this.

Not with this. I think this is the only ship I've ever encountered that I actually 'ship' with how passionate and in-love with it I am about it. It's quite fun and has lead me to start writing my newest longfic as well.

Science Party I just...adore. The dynamic of two evil geniuses together already ignites a neuron in my brain, but there's more to it. Medic is an unhinged and impulsive wildcard that does anything that crosses his mind. He's got an extremely inflated ego and a pretty big god complex. Then, you got Engie, who is like Medic in every regard as well. The catch is that he's a bit more controlled. Don't mistake that for him being more sane or anything though. I feel like he admires Medic for just dropping everything and not giving a shit about looks or appearances, instead being his true, uninhibited self.

Then you get to the interactions and just...me little heart... I've always envisioned Medic as being an uncaring and apathetic guy when it comes to others and their concerns. Low empathy, if you will. However, as his relationship grows with Engie, he begins to care about him just a smidge more, which is saying a lot for Mr. The Healing Is Not As Rewarding As The Hurting. He cares about Engie, enough so to be partners with him rather than friends.

Oh, I should also probably explain that a bit. Medic doesn't exactly like being 'friends' with people, so instead he's partners with Engie. I like the word, partners. If you also notice, I only use the word 'partner' in SAR whenever I'm referring to their relationship.

Anyways, Engie helps Medic open up and feel a bit more. But how does Medic help Engie? Well, I feel by being his unhinged and 'he has 57 mental illnesses and is banned in most public spaces' self, Engie sees somebody he wants to be. Medic doesn't care. He is happy and unchained by responsibilities and a commitment to be a functioning member of society. I could go into why Medic feels this way, but I'll probably end up just saying something along the lines of: "SOCIETY! SOCIETY!!!"

So, Engie has got some issues for lack of a better term. Even as a merc, Engie likes keeping up that mask of being a light-hearted good ol' Texan. He likes that persona, not only because it's the one he's always used but it's just a nice, likeable personality, but he also likes the idea of just going 'fuck it, we ball' like Medic. Medic encourages him to be more creative and detach from that sort of mindset. He tells him that he should do what makes him happy as opposed to doing what his family wants him to do.

They're just...really nice together. I don't know how else to put it. I always saw them as really similar in that regard, both being intelligent and highly regarded members of the team for their supportive roles. Beyond that, they're both clearly nuts in a similar way. They're just...the sillies. I love them.

I've got a lot of opinions on a bunch of other ships, but that's a discussion for another time (or until somebody pokes me about them). Science Party is the one I feel the most about by far, though.

I just wanted to say thank you for doing self-insert ships. For years I've struggled to so much as write/draw oc x canon ships, and seeing you do self-inserts is very encouraging for me. Maybe it's old Tumblr or the circles I've frequented as a preteen, or maybe it's the videos I watched as a kid claiming to "fix" ocs... but I'm always worried about how others feel even though I never even post these ships. It's all for fun, and I am enjoying myself especially because I'm discussing these ships with my gf. But there's always an old part of me that cringes and worries that I keep shipping ocs with canon characters. It's unpleasant, yeah. But watching you be so carefree really motivates me.

oc x canon, and self-insert x canon are both incredibly valid and extremely fun. they are harmless and people who find it "disgusting" or "cringe".. that's their problem. we are doing no harm loving and being loved by our favorite characters, be they platonic or romantic feelings towards those characters.

self-shipping, for me, has been incredibly helpful on my emotional/mental health and on how I see and feel about myself. It really has done wonders to make me love and appreciate myself more over the years which is something I've struggled with (still kinda do, but it's better now) due to my extensive past of being bullied for various things about myself that are entirely outside of my control. (mostly things about me visually/physically.. y'know?)

so, ever since I learned about self shipping being a thing, I've slowly opened up more and become more comfortable and happy. I hope you can experience the same over time! Please don't feel discouraged about what makes you happy due to the petty, trivial cringe culture in the past.

as many self-ship related posts I've seen have said: Your favorite characters love you just as much-- if not more-- as you love them! they want you happy and to not worry.

plus, the self-ship community has been very welcoming and kind. we're all just lonely and touch starved and want to see everyone happy in little ways.

tl;dr: Cringe is dead. Ship your oc's with canon. who the heck cares. canon is made of oc's anyways. oc's of the creator. it's just another way of engaging with your favorite media.
