The best gift, or at least his favorite, was from Orin. He and Orin share a birthday—albeit with a few decades of separation, and, well, he didn't remember his actual birthday by the time he reached the temple, as he never celebrated it prior to that, but it was close enough to Orin's for them to round it off like that—so they always celebrated their birthdays together.

So his best gift was when she gave him his first facial piercing, his lip piercing, on the birthday that was her 17th and his 78th. She'd go on to give him a bunch of piercings following that, but the first one was quite special to him. He found the experience surprisingly intimate.

out of curiosity, what is niro's in game class?

He is an oathbreaker paladin! Though if I had my druthers, his subclass would actually be the Oath of Conquest from the (2014) D&D 5e ruleset.

I'm not that attached to the idea of him having any specific oath in the literal sense of an oath as a creed or belief system; my choice of class/subclass for him is based solely on what best represents the abilities he has as a quasi-divine living murder weapon.

Aroen is the younger twin born to Niro and Orin, endowed with his father's ability to change his height. Sharing his mother's love for blood-tinged beauty, Aroen is a talented artist who created most of the luxurious garments worn by the family. Since his youth, Aroen has displayed nothing but cold contempt for the world outside his household, a world which he thinks of as unclean. It is for this reason that no one outside the family has ever seen him without gloves. To all outsiders, he is completely and utterly untouchable.

Aroen's role in the family is like that of a treasured possession, a role in which he's perfectly happy. Neora, his twin sister and love, dresses him every day.
