ok I just saw someone talk about in the falsettos revival when Marvin says I want it all and he grabs whizzer's hair and that got me thinking about how later in the baseball game when he's talking about how the bald spot (or the hairline if you're thinking of the proshot) is the only physical imperfection he can find and the fact that he's grabbing whizzer's hair here when he's talking about how he wants it all indicating that he's really sort of accepting whizzer's imperfections and is singing about how he doesn't want Whizzer to change and that he wants whizzer even with his imperfections and how this also leads into him only really thinking about whizzer's imperfections when he's away from whizzer, like how one of his first thoughts when he sees whizzer for the first time after not seeing him for 2 years is wanting to see the bald spot indicating that that's what he's been thinking about and how in what would I do he says "god only knows too soon I'll remember your faults" which is sort of pointing towards the fact that when he's with whizzer he's ok to want him even with his faults or imperfections but the second he's away from him he starts thinking about those sort of trying to tell himself that he's wrong for missing whizzer and trying to invalidate his feelings by just remembering whizzer's faults and imperfections

saw a post on here from... i think it was a WHILE ago... criticizing julian and asra's (the arcana) gladiatorial outfits from asra's route. saying that the outfits were impractical for battle. which, on a completely objective standpoint, i agree

further, the poster said that they were surprised people actually found the outfits hot, as they were clearly meant as jokes (due to the impracticability). okay, fair, i can see that objectively

I was wondering! Would Breadcrust Crusaders be abbreviated as BC or BCC? Because I think both sound funny-

I abbreviate it as BC! Well, I guess I do? That's the abbreviation I came up with, but I usually just call it Breadcrust. Though, when referring to the two fics as a whole I just refer to it as The Breadcrust Series as that's much shorter than any other alternative I could think of.

So I've been thinking lately about how Mithrun is Kabru's dark mirror (more on that another time- it needs its own post), and I thought it interesting that one of their parallels is that they were both cared for by Milsiril, but in opposite directions. She took Kabru in as her foster after he was orphaned and tried to convince him not to become an adventurer. On the flip side, she helped rehabilitate Mithrun specifically so that he could rejoin the Canaries.

And I kept wondering: why?

For Kabru, obviously she loves him a whole lot- despite any other shortcomings in their relationship, I do believe that.

So I get why she tries to convince him not to go dungeoning, and, failing that, at least prepares him as thoroughly as she can.

But why help Mithrun? She used to hate Mithrun, but after realizing what a secretly twisted person he was, she actually thought of him more positively (oh, Milsiril). So it wasn't as if she held the kind of grudge that might motivate her to make his already-depleted life even more miserable by sending him back to the dungeons. And it wasn't that she felt bad for him either, since she didn't visit Mithrun for the first ~20 years of his recovery.

The Adventurer's Bible says that Utaya was the impetus for Mithrun returning to the Canaries, but Milsiril is the one who made the trip to see him and tell him about it.

Why would Milsiril work so hard to get her old coworker back into fighting fit? Why encourage him to return to such a dangerous lifestyle, when she was the one who chose not to mercy-kill him?

That last panel is such a crazy thing to hint at and then never elaborate on. Without it we could have just thought that Milsiril wanted the Canaries' work to continue without her, even if it seemed out of character. I think some people even assume she's just a natural caretaker as a foster mom and handwave it to include nursing Mithrun too. What could Milsiril's suspicious motives be? What does she gain from Mithrun joining the Canaries that isn't an altruistic desire to see dungeons safely sealed? Feeling a sense of responsibility for the work she left behind isn't an ulterior motive.

My theory is: Milsiril, knowing that Mithrun was empty save for the burning desire to face the demon again, wound him up like a clockwork doll and pointed him back at the dungeons.

Hoping that he'd eliminate the biggest threat to Kabru's life, before it was too late for him.

Let's do a little thought experiment shall we?

Imagine you're a very sheltered teenager in 2003 with a very black and white view of how the world works.

Say you find a notebook that says you can kill people just by writing their name in it. Ridiculous, right? No way this is real. But wouldn't it peak your curiosity? Just for the heck of it, you decide you'll write a name down. Not like anyone is actually gonna die.

Just in case, you write down the name of some dude you saw on the news who was holding a kindergarten hostage. That way even if it is real you at least did a good deed by freeing those kids. To your surprise, he actually does die.

It has to be a coincidence, right? You didn't kill him, you're not a murderer! If you write someone else down, they're not going to die! You see some guy harrassing some woman on the street and decide to write his name down. As it turns out, he dies too.

Two people are now dead because of you. How do you feel? Guilty? Anxious? Afraid? But why? They were awful! They deserved it!

In fact, with so many horrible people out there, one might say that it's actually immoral to STOP using the notebook now. You saved those hostages, you saved that woman, think of everyone ELSE you could help!

It can't be anyone else. You've already killed two people. You're already a murderer. You can't just pass this massive burden onto someone else when YOUR soul is already tainted.

It has. To be. YOU.

You cannot stop now.
