Okay so this might be a personal thing but the best written penguins love animals and wish to protect or connect with them in some way. LIKE THIS GUY HAS BEEN OSTRACIZED AND REDICULED AND DEHUMANIZED OFC HE'S GONNA FUCKING LOVE ANIMALS AND RELATE TO THEM. But ooooh no some writers have to strip him of all his complexities and make him just a money hungry mob boss, what happened to Mr. Cobblepot who feeds the local birds and loves doing avian themed crimes?

OH AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED WITH SCARECROWS UNUSED POTENTIAL, this man has so much potential and so few writers actually use it THIS MAN IS TRYING TO BE THE EMBODIMENT OF FEAR FOR THE GODS SAKE HE CAN BE USED TO SHOW BATMAN'S CRIPPLING FEARS AND MAKE OTHER CHARACTERS SO MUCH MORE COMPLEX IN A WAY THAT FEELS NATURAL TO THE STORY BUT NO THEY FUCKING MAKE HIM A FAILED PHYCOLOGY PROFESSOR WHO HATES EVERYONE FOR THE FUCKS OF IT. And yes I do love me a silly little guy scarecrow and penguin but like most of the writers are not using their potential and just ignore their backstories and complexities

A cockatoo borrowed the next book in his favourite series from the school library and almost couldn't wait the whole day to go home and read it.

An alien went camping and watched the birds outside and the way the wind made waves and patterns on the water.

A fallen angel went shopping for sunglasses to shield his eyes from how bright the sun was.

A harpy went shopping for new plants to look after. He named a few because he loved them so much, and sent pictures to all of his friends.

An anthropomorphic hedgehog traded Pokemon cards with his peers at school. He was happy with his collection.

You may not see us, and you may feel alone, but you are not. We are just hidden. We are in more places than you'd think, and in the places you'd least expect. We are complex, we are valued, and we are here.

i'm bothered by how fictionfolk seem to be treated. people want to have healthy standards between fictional identity and reality, but they do it so harshly to where they're discrediting others' fictional identities. they're not "yes, and...", they're just flat-out "no"-ing other's experiences.

source separation just seems to be flat out denying your identity instead of acknowledging how this reality works differently, or accepting the natural growth that occurs when living and learning new things.

it feels like fictional identities are "cool" yet extremely shamed.

and btw since I'm posting a lot of wholesoul content (intended as platonic but still), i do want to make it clear: my analysis of whole as a character is purely within the narrative of the story! while i am aware that behind the metaphors is whole is cj himself, that's never what i'm writing whole as in my work. basically I'm using the internal logic of the fiction (whole as viewed by the characters in the album) rather than the reason for the fiction existing (as a fictionalized version of chonny's mental state), just like i do with all the other characters. it's important to make that distinction when you're dealing with a piece of fiction so heavily based on the creator i think. I'll never use cj as a basis for how I write whole because I find that a little off putting tbh ^^;

I think we've talked about dysphoria from not having your abilities/powers that you remember having/should have, but I don't think we've talked about fear relating to it.

I mean, a normal human body is weak and hardly has any defense compared to what I could do. It would be like taking the hard scales and spikes from a dragon--you feel exposed, you're missing a part of you that kept you safe.

But.. we're disabled, on top of that. Not only am I weaker than I was before, but my body can't hold up to a lot of those around me who would otherwise be on similar levels. I can't stand for long. If I walk too much in a day my knees try to give out, and hurt for a week after. I can't throw a good punch. I can hardly even balance without a cane half the time. You've taken that metaphorical dragon, removed his spikes, teeth, claws, scales, wings and fire, and now he is soft. He's only skin and brittle bone. Now he is unsafe around other dragons--he wouldn't be able to win if some fight were to break out. He wouldn't be able to save himself.

It's that feeling of wrongness, of exposure, of knowing that so many things are threats now that weren't before. There's so much more that can get you. It's worse than the dysphoria itself. I would care less about losing what I had if I knew I could defend my system in this body, but I can't.

It's horrible.
