So I'm no writer. I don't mean this in a bad way, I just can't write long texts or keep my attention on the plot that I'm writing.
Having said that, however, I've been thinking a lot about an AU where Impulse and Etho end up teaming up, and things don't seem to work as they should on the 3rd life server.... [AO3 LINK]
Pop. Crack. The taste of muddy, bitter water in your tongue. You’d figure that if you tried hard enough, you could even notice the hints of salt scattered throughout. But focusing on the little details in life are for people that have the time to do so- And you, Impulse, are
“-an absolute idiot.” “Whoah there buddy, all I did was help some people out on their business. Don’tcha think that having more cards at play is gonna help us out in the end?” The redstoner says in such a tone that almost feels acrid in the way that fruits rot, if left forgotten, yet poor phrasings and curses aside, they truly were words of a man that means no malice- a curse of playing so many sides, he’d assume, if he were in another time. What he gets in response is but a boneless sigh, one that is tired of the shapes and turns of life and death, the game that they always play but never win. - “Impulse, you know that I love having you around- I’ll go so far as to say that you are the only one I can truly trust around here. But you are making me have some second thoughts about that.” “About my loyalty? Oh come on, you know that you are my pal til the end of times!” “Do I?” Etho has a way with words, it seems. He doesn’t use expensive expressions, the ones that are far too costly for your own soul or mind- Nor does he try to seem something that he isn’t, that’d be too unnatural, even for someone of his stature. But something in his tone moves rocks and mountains if the man so desires, and oh boy does he desire that a lot. You could say that It’s the type of tone that tugs you relentlessly, even if your conscience is clear- it’s never enough to hurt, of course, Canadian costumes or something of sorts, but it’s enough to make you doubt your own self down to the last cell in your body. And that; is far worse than any heartbreak or ill mouthing. Impulse staggers a bit away from his machinery- a simple system that would cast a rain of arrows down to any intruders from the sidelines - and contemplates the question that had been dropped in the air. Does he? Etho wouldn’t doubt him so much if he did, that’s the logical conclusion to that pinpoint. Now onto figuring out why the sudden suspicion. “You do know that I’ve sworn allegiance to you, right? I’m not saying this to be nice, or to play the part, this is not a master plan to trick you and stab you from the back- Heck, I wouldn’t be fortifying your fancy castle if that were the case! Though I doubt that you’d need my help with the redstone side of things-” A slight frown waves upon the man’s face for a split second, and Etho would have probably told you he hadn’t seen a thing if someone were to ask, for sight can be deceiving, and so can the light, and the mind, and your thoughts. “Agh, just please know that I’m doing my darn best to make sure that we can be the winners! That’s the whole goal of me being buddy-buddy with the other teams, right? So that we can gather intel and be 5 steps ahead of them.” And he meant that so truthfully, so genuine and pure, for someone that was doing so much wrong. There was a moment of silence. Well, not true silence- The sloshing of water against hard wool, the wind kissing the crops good morning, the distant chattering of the sheep, it all played a song to fill the current void in this conversation, which was not halted by the need to come up with something more to speak, or the lack of subject, but yes by the need to figure out if both of them believed in this story. “Why are we doing this?” Impulse is taken aback by the shift in conversation- Etho is no person to bring doubt into the table like that, after all. To question others? That’s a fair game, albeit a bit torturous at worst- But to question his own purpose, just like that, out of the blue? Now that was a heavy rock thrown to the face. Thankfully not in a literal sense, though. “...What do you mean by that?” Is what he managed to blurt out in response. “The betraying, the killing, the alliances- all of that. I mean, fundamentally, we do know that we are doing this for ‘fun’ and to ‘wind-out’ ” - The white-haired figure makes sure to over exaggerate the quotation marks of his sentence, giving it such a grand gesture that it almost breaks the somewhat tense presence filling the air. It was nice to take a step back and to remember that, at the end of the day, Etho is
still just Etho, silly and well-meaning. - “We know it because it’s what Grian told us it is.” “So you’re implying that there’s something more to it..?” “I’m not sure yet. You can just call it a hunch, really. But maybe Hermitcraft just... Wasn’t enough for him.”
Silence lingers for a few moments longer, a bit too thick to be swallowed easily, but accusations like these just weren’t possible to digest with a light heart. Impulse, almost inspired by a feeling very fitting to his name, took a few steps forwards, taking in the comforting feeling that the floor of their castle provided, soon sparing a glance at the lava fortifications surrounding them. If he really tried, he could spot Tango’s killing game by one of the exposed gaps, which earned a small chuckle in response. If it was loving, or nervous, he would decide later. “So” - The (yellow themed) redstoner finally spat out - “Going off your logic there… We’re friends with a guy that runs off bloodshed and sadistic tendencies, a guy who has created, even fought, so many battles on the other server, yet felt the need to kick the violence up a notch- For… entertainment?”
In response, the other (more so blue themed, but does Etho really have a colour of his own?) redstoner walked closer towards the other man, each step carrying a moment of reflection. “Ehm- Maybe? I mean we always knew that’s the main point of what we are doing, I’m more so implying-” “Implying that his goals are beyond a couple of laughs and water guns between friends.” “Mhm.” “We don’t usually take such a long break from Hermitcraft, which might have been why he felt the need to create this game.” “Or maybe he was just tired of the pawns, so he traded them for new pieces…” Impulse coughs out another chuckle, but this time anyone that paid some mind to the man could tell the pain that it was carrying- It was almost a brand image at this point, a coping mechanism he had earned over the years. He would go as far as feeling a certain shame about it, at least in his darker hours- it’s hard to play the part if your true colours can pop out at any moment, after all. At that moment, he had come to the realization that he would be awful at poker. “...Either way, I do think that Grian is taking this too far. I don’t know about you, but I would rather not have to betray and kill my friends like this. In a lighthearted competition? Sure. But this is turning people into monsters, Impulse. It’s turning us into monsters, in fact.” He spares another sigh, his face twisting into a more pained expression - contrasting the usual cool facade that he kept around the server - , taking the chance to keep his words down to a mere whisper, almost as if to share the secrets of the world with Impulse, spells and curses for his ears only. It almost felt a bit special, in a way. “It’s not like I enjoy the idea of our friend being some sort of sadistic megalomaniac- And I promise you that I’ll eat my own words one by one if I’m wrong, cross my heart, hope to die-” - Worth to note that both of them shared their just as secret reactions to the phrasing used by Etho- The man of the minute with a scrunch of his nose, and the person looking at him with an accidental eyebrow twitch. - “...But I really need you to trust me on this one, Impulse. You know that I wouldn’t bring such accusations without a reason.” Pop. Crack. The taste of muddy, bitter water in your tongue. You wished that if you tried hard enough, you could preoccupate yourself with the bits of salt scattered throughout. Moments of self reflection and torturous analysis, little glances, short breaths, holding your head, holding your mind, holding your heart- Correction, your hearts. Holding simultaneously nothing and the idea of Nothing at the exact same time. You stare at Etho. He stares at you back. But, in the end, focusing on the little details in life are for people that can afford to do so. And you, Impulse, are- “-running out of time! So I guess we are going to call it a day here, folks! Please log out of the world as soon as possible.” The communicators scream, rudely buzzing out to all of the members present in the server.

Pure Blood 15 (Sirius Black x F! Oc)
Words: 2,440
Masterlist
Chapter 14 // Chapter 16
"It was a simple task and you couldn't even do it," Ares complains. His face flushed with anger.
"You asked me to use an unforgivable spell, not only was I going to risk my life with a ticket to Azkaban, you asked me to murder an innocent family!" Tears run down my face. "They had a little boy!”
"Muggles, either way!”
“Not because they don't have magic it means they deserve to be killed. They didn't know why they were there!”
"What don't they deserve?" His teeth gnash, he grabs my arm very tightly. "All your life we’ve taught you your position in this family, in this society–and now you come out with this nonsense! Don't tell me that you’re fond of them now…” His grip grows stronger and I complain. "Because if that's the case... you'd better not live anymore in this house"
I remain silent, impressed by my father's words. I don't understand how we went from being the perfect family to this. I always saw my father as a hero, the one who was always going to protect me from everything. But now…
“N-no…” He nods and releases me.
"Go away," He hisses and I don't wait any longer to run away from there.
I go up the stairs and stop at the bottom of them. My breathing is accelerated. I look at my right arm, which has a mark on. I lean against a wall and once my breathing is even, I walk to a door and knock several times. Apollo opens it
"I need Jane,” I say in a whisper and I raise my arm to show him. He looks down.
“Who–?" He stops half a question and looks me straight in the eye. I nod. He steps back and lets me into his old room. "Love, Persephone needs you…”
Jane comes out of the bathroom and when she sees my wound, she sighs.
"We haven't been in this house long, how many times have you hurt yourself, honey?" Although I know she’s not joking, I can't help but laugh at her question.
She shares her head with a smile. I sit on Apollo’s bed and Jane is focused on healing my arm. Apollo moves arranging his things along with his wife's in the room, I suppose this room’s smaller than the one in her home.
“Apollo-“ He stops at my call. "When your baby is born, will I be able to visit you?" I know Jane wants to answer, but I don't take my eyes off my older brother. And for the first time in a long time, he gives me a smile, just for me.
"Of course you can, Persephone."
——————————————
The rest of the vacation passed quickly, especially since I spent it almost every day in my room to avoid any problem. I only spoke with Jane and sometimes with Apollo, Juno spoke to me just to ask for favors and the other two only to annoy me, but since I didn't play along like before, they got bored and left me be.
But finally I'm back at Hogwarts and the first person I see when I enter the castle is Remus, who greets me with a big hug. Which I really needed.
"Thanks for the notebook, Wolfie," I whisper before we part and he laughs.
"You're welcome. By the way, the book you sent me is the one I was missing, thank you,” He says and I wink. "I don't think your vacation was as happy as what you told me in your letters," I shrug.
"It could be worst. Any progress with the super plan?”
He smiles.
“Maybe. I have an idea, but I still have to think about some things, the important thing is that I think it can be achieved,” I sigh in relief.
"Those words are music to my ears."
"I guess it’ll be part of our meeting next time,” He smiles a little. "How did you manage to survive in your house?" He asks with worry.
"I had a tense moment with my father, but…” I shake my head. "That doesn't matter anymore.”
"Percy, you know you won’t be fine if you don't tell me how you feel, we promised that we would be honest." I rub my neck.
"Second topic for the meeting?”
He nods. I examine my friend in detail, his eyes show tiredness, he also has dark circles. It won't be long before the full moon. "Do you think this time we can talk about your little furry problem every full moon?" Remus quirks up at that.
"N-no, I don't think it is.”
"Oh come on, you know every ridiculous story from my sad life, how about an exchange of misfortunes?" I try to joke around so he doesn't feel so pressured. I already knew about his lycanthropy, but I don't have all the details. When I mentioned it, Remus almost freaked out.
“All right," He finally says.
“You shouldn't be that close to snakes, Lunatic. Especially that one, it's poisonous,” I roll my eyes when I hear that stupid voice. We both turn to meet James and Sirius.
"Behave yourself, Prongs,” James holds up his hands.
"I'm just telling the truth– Right, Padfoot?" I look at Sirius, but he isn't listening to his friend, instead he stares at my neck. "Paddie?"
Sirius shakes his head.
“What?”
“Dude, we haven't even had classes yet and you're already distracted, why are you staring at her like that? I don't think there’s much to look at.”
My cheeks flush and I fold my arms over my chest.
“Idiot."
He laughs.
"James!" Remus scolds him.
"That necklace is new, Singh. Any admirer?” Sirius refuses to play along with his friend.
I touch the necklace distractedly.
"I don't think so…” I reply simply.
"Are you okay, Sirius?" Remus asks. The boy just nods.
"P!" Jenna comes to us and practically tackles me. “Hello, Marauders. I'm sorry to interrupt, but I need to kidnap this beautiful lady.”
"I see that everything is forgiven,” says Remus with a smile and we both nod.
Jenna doesn't wait and takes my hand, she guides me through the corridors of the school until we reach the gardens, Lily Evans’ group is sitting in a circle.
“Ah, Jenna…” I release her hand and stop.
"What's going on?"
"What are you planning? I can't go to them,” I say nervously.
"Don't be silly! I just want to do something, they won't do anything to you.”
“I don’t belong in that your group, Jenna," She sighs and comes closer.
“Honey," She takes my face in her hands. "They won’t despise you, I promise.”
"But I’ve done it! For a long time, I made fun of each one of them, I can’t do it!”
"You know? I'm surprised by this new attitude, P. What happened to the confident girl who wouldn't be trampled on by anyone?” I bite my lower lip.
“She's no longer here, she should never have existed," She stops touching my face.
"No, Persephone. The girl who discriminated against others and hurt them is no longer here. She’s widely different from the one who always walks with her head held high. Honey, I've seen you stand up in front of everyone's criticism, don't let that disappear.”
I almost want to cry. Almost, but she's right.
"It's hard to see the difference," She smiles.
“But that's what you have me for, sweetie. We'll do it together, like always.” I can't believe how close I came to losing her. "Listen, if you feel uncomfortable, we can go. I just want to do something, okay?” She takes my hand again.
When we finally arrive the conversation between them dies. They all smile at Jenna and they stare at me.
Marlene gets up and hugs Jenna. I smile, pulling back a little.
"I missed you so much, love," says Marlene fondly.
"I did too. My family’s so boring, your letters were my salvation!” When they break apart, Jenna moves away a little and smiles at me. “Mar, I want to officially introduce you to my best friend, Persephone. P, she is my girlfriend, Marlene…” The girl miles shyly at me.
“It’s… good to see you Marlene. I mean, all of you–” I point out, “Yes, it's good to see you all together again as always... it's not that you can't be apart– Well, I’ve only seen Lily alone, but you’re always in a group, not that it’s wrong, you are friends, that’s what friends do…” I stop speaking when I listen to their laughter.
Jenna puts her arm around my shoulders.
"Forgive her, she talks a lot when she's nervous.”
I rub the back of my neck.
"You don't have to be, Persephone," says Lily.
Jenna and I sat on the grass in front of them. Jenna and Marlene hold hands and share a knowing look. The conversation continues, but I don’t understand the topic well enough, from time to time I observe in detail the interaction between the couple. Some whispers in the ear, sweet giggles, kisses on the cheek or lips…
"They're adorable." Lily interrupts my thoughts, turning to them.
“Yeah.”
"It makes you think… You want something like that, don’t you?" I frown.
"I guess…” I smile at the thought. Actually, she's right, it’d be a... good thing, to have something like that.
"But it's hard to find it," She sighs and I laugh. "What?"
"I know someone who’s willing to have something like that with you,” At first Lily frowns, but then she understands.
“Oh, please, not in a million years," She squeals, making me laugh. "It's not fun!"
"Yes it is! Potter would give anything to have five minutes of your attention, imagine what he’d do to be your boyfriend!”
"That will never happen!”
"Yeah right, can I be your bridesmaid?" She hits my shoulder and I can’t stop laughing.
"Very funny, isn't it? What about your love life?”
"Simple, it doesn't exist," She raises a brow.
"I bet you and Sirius would make a nice couple…”
"Stop there, redhead. There’s a difference between James and Sirius– James would leave anyone to be with you, and Sirius can’t stop being a womanizer. I'm sure he’ll end alone.”
Saying those words, I can't help but feel a knot in my stomach, but I ignore it.
"That only affirms my theory, Singh,” She smirks. I look at her confused. "If Sirius leaves all those girls, you think you’d be something?"
I shake my head repeatedly.
"No- I don’t- He doesn’t- Agh!" I groan, making her laugh. "It won't happen.” I sentence with a growl
"I find many errors in your theory, Persephone."
"I don’t," I shrug.
Later, the group begins another conversation, with names that I didn’t recognize, in situations that I never knew happened.
I know that my presence causes them some discomfort, especially with Alice, and sometimes Lily doesn’t know if she should mention something in front of me, at no time I take part in the gossip, but I don’t care about it much. Surely, I’d act the same, or even worse. I don't blame them, but all of this helps me relax a little and makes forget about my family.
The next day, classes continue smoothly. Some tests have already been answered, but there’s still some tension between the students. Without realizing it, several weeks had passed without any drama.
"You look… less worse."
"Thanks, Reg, you always know what to say," I say as I toss him a piece of apple. He laughs, shaking his head.
“You’re relaxed, that's good. What about the nightmares?”
“They keep coming, but now I can sleep. I guess at Hogwarts I feel safer knowing that my father can't harm me here.”
Regulus grimaces, nodding.
"The picnic was a good idea when everyone is at the Quidditch match," He offers, eating a grape.
The gardens are just for us, I wanted a moment of silence with my best friend.
"I always have good ideas,” We laugh. "Come on, I bet you can catch this grape with your mouth," he groans, but agrees to try.
"You suck at this game. Always.”
"Shut up, I need to focus,” He rolls his eyes and opens his mouth.
The first attempt fails. And the second. And third. After his turn, I only manage to catch one.
"That's cheating," He complains.
"How could it be cheating? You threw it,” I scoff.
"You throw the grapes very high, the last one almost hit me in the eye!"
"That's because you don't have good reflexes, idiot.”
"So?" A piece of apple hits my forehead and we start a food war. "Now that’s enough! Don't waste anymore food, Singh.”
I laugh and pick up the remains.
"Hey, the other day I heard a little rumor about you,” I raised my eyebrows suggestively.
"What thing?"
"Oh nothing, they just mentioned a certain Amelia Potts…” He groans dramatically and I giggle.
"I just helped her with her story assignment and suddenly I'm dating her?"
"You don’t like her?"
"It's not that. She’s beautiful and good– Pureblood, it's just that... I'm sick of everyone wanting to pair me up with everyone.”
"I understand,” We’re silent for a few minutes, then he gets up.
"It's horrible how something’s always expected of you, especially when even you don't know what you're capable of…” His words surprise me, but I don’t know what to reply.
"We should run away, Persephone.”
"What?" I look at him with an amused expression.
“As soon as school ends and you’re no longer tied to that ridiculous wedding and I don't have any family responsibilities. Let’s just run away and don't look back–”
"Did the food hurt yout head?"
"Think about it!” He ignores my question. "Life without worries, without fear of anyone, just travel, no parents, no school, no work, nothing to stop us!" He says, almost shouting the last.
I laugh and get up to face him.
“That'd be great. Where would we go?" He smiles.
“Wherever! Greece, Ireland, India, we can go to America, wherever we want!" He raises his arms.
“Oh! We could do whatever, eat whatever, wear anything, dance on the beach!”
"Yes!" And as if we were connected, we start dancing –or that was the intention, at one point it’s just meaningless jumps, no music, just our laughter with zero cares about the world.
This is unusual for Regulus, but I wouldn’t complain about this attitude in a million years. I love it when he’s not serious and prefers to have fun with me. Time and our parents have not taken these moments away.

Meet the character: Silke
BASICS
► Name ➔ “Silke Doomflare. And yes, it’s got something to do with my profession!”
► Are you single ➔ Silke’s eyes suddenly get a bit wider. She blinks, and then purses her lips, becoming oddly interested in the nearby wall. “It’s complicated.”
► Are you happy ➔ “Mm, yeah, I guess I could say so”, she states after thinking for a moment. “I’m studying things I love, my family is safe and alive, I have a handful of people I could consider my friends.. Can’t really complain, although a little bit more gil wouldn’t hurt...”
► Are you angry? ➔ “Well, usually not. Though, at the moment I’m a bit pissed off at a certain colleague of mine who loudly and unnecessarily harshly judged my thesis of pyromancy in front of our professor and classmates. Like, hellooo? You can give critique and still be polite about it, geez…”
► Are your parents still married ➔ “They are”, Silke nods proudly. "I’ve seen so many broken families lately. I feel very privileged… and lucky.”
EIGHT FACTS
► Birth Place ➔ “I’ve heard it was the place named Skatay Range. But I can’t remember a thing from it. I was so young when I was taken by slavers. So I like to think Kugane as my real birth place, since I grew up there.“
► Hair Color ➔ “Black I guess? At least it was the last time I checked! In bright light it looks like dark grey, though.”
► Eye Color ➔ Silke leans closer, so that the deep turquoise can hardly be missed. "You have troubles with your eyes or what? I happen to partly know a shady medic from a certain dark alley nearby. Want to know the address?”
► Birthday ➔ “Ninth sun of the first astral moon, I’ve heard.”
► Mood ➔ “Right now? I guess I’m feeling somewhat eager. There’s this new portal we’re going to test out tomorrow, and I was permitted to take part in it. Can you believe that? Usually they’re just like ‘no, Silke, don’t touch it, don’t touch anything’, but this time I’m allowed in. They must’ve finally noticed the genius I am.“
► Gender ➔ “God!” Silke yells and gets on her feet, pointing towards the roof. A long silence follows. “Seriously! Have you ever seen me on a battlefield? Have you seen the havoc I’ve --- no? Oh...”
► Summer or winter ➔ “Agh, such a difficult question. I like both. I like to swim and lay on a soft grass under a tree. But then again I also like to drink hot cocoa when it’s cold, wrap myself up into a blanket and watch the flames of our fireplace or snow falling outside.“
► Morning or afternoon ➔ “Afternoon of course? I’m not even awake before noon… no, wait. I like sleeping as well. Both?”
EIGHT THINGS ABOUT YOUR LOVE LIFE
► Are you in love ➔ “Of course I am. If we don’t count the feeling of aether flowing through me while I cast spells and blow things to smithereens, I love most the smell of old tomes, parchment, ink and all sorts of sweets, especially ice-cream. I also love chocobos. If it wasn’t possible to be a mage I’d definitely become a chocobo breeder. Perhaps I’ll become one when my career is over and spells no longer stay in my head. I’ll retire and start breeding chocobos. Yes, a perfect plan!“
► Do you believe in love at first sight ➔ “I definitely do! I fell in love with my dog the moment I saw him. Have you ever visited Kugane? Well anyway, they have these small, orange, pointy eared and curly tailed dogs there in almost every house. It’s like their national dog or something, they’re so popular.”
► Who ended your last relationship ➔ “I hate to admit this, but it was him… I thought we were doing fine, but one day he started to complain I didn’t give him enough attention, and that I was studying too much. I mean… how can one even study too much? I don’t get it.“
► Have you ever broken someone’s heart ➔ “I guess I have. Not on purpose, though! Honestly, some people are so sensitive it’s harder not to break their hearts, geez… What an annoying subject to talk about, anyway.” Silke ruffles her head uneasily.
► Are you afraid of commitments ➔ “Of course not. I wouldn’t be able to ever become an archmage if I wasn’t dedicated to my studies.“
► Have you hugged someone within the last week? ➔ Silke’s usually cheerful expression grows darker suddenly. "My sister. We don’t see very often, but when we do, I try to show my care as much as I can. She’s hanging out with shady folk sometimes, and I can’t help but worry at times will she come home or not.”
► Have you ever had a secret admirer ➔ “I surely hope not! Would be creepy to have someone admiring you from afar, without letting you know. Isn’t that like stalking? It’s only good manners to make yourself known so we can find out do we get along or not.“
► Have you ever broken your own heart? ➔ “No, I don’t think so. Or perhaps I once almost did… there was this huge tome - as big as those holy scriptures they have in the cathedral - in a certain old bookstore. The merchant was old as sky and I was afraid they’d close the place soon. And the tome was expensive. I was a lot younger back then and didn’t have much money, and my sister was like ‘no Silke, you totally won’t buy a book written in some dead language no one can read to take more room in your previously cramped room and collect dust.’ At first I was about to leave it at that, but I ended up snitching money from her cache.” Silke grins impishly. “No regrets!”
SIX CHOICES
► Love or lust ➔ “I have to choose again? You’re, like, asking me do I like to enjoy nice things existing or actually take them to be mine.”
► Lemonade or iced tea ➔ “What if I started to ask you annoying questions like strawberries or chocolate? Can’t choose, huh? Huh?”
► Cats or Dogs ➔ Silke falls silent for a moment. “…just when I was yapping at you for silly questions. Dogs all the way! I like cats too, and maybe I would be more of a cat person if my first pet had been a cat. But it was a dog, and there’s no going back!“
► A few best friends or many regular friends ➔ “A few best friends, absolutely. I have both, but I’ve noticed I enjoy the company of my closest friends a lot more. You can do all sorts of crazy stuff with them you can’t with anyone else.”
► Wild night out or romantic night in ➔ “Definitely a wild night out! I have romantic nights by myself all the time with wine and chocolate and our fireplace, and I rarely get to go out.“
► Day or night ➔ “I like both, actually. At days I’m studying, and at nights I’m doing my homework.” Silke shrugs and grins.
FOUR HAVE YOU EVERS
► Been caught sneaking out ➔ Silke becomes more serious once more. “Like I told you, I was taken from my original home by slavers. Life wasn’t very nice back then. I tried to run, many times. But I was very small and weak, and they were big, strong and fast.”
► Fallen down/up the stairs ➔ “This actually happened during one of my escape attempts. I was lucky I didn’t die. I still have a scar left.“ Silke lifts her bangs and shows a scar near her temple.
► Wanted something/someone so badly it hurt? ➔ “Freedom. Yes… I think losing our loved ones is the first thing we usually think of when someone asks for the thing we fear the most. But I think losing your freedom would be even worse. If you’re free, you can always start anew, but if you’re being held captive, you can’t do anything. Nothing at all.”
► Wanted to disappear ➔ Silke gives a long look at you and raises an eyebrow again. “Considering the things I just told you, there just may have been such situations...”
FOUR PREFERENCES
► Smile or eyes ➔ “Mmh, both are important, but I think I like eyes more. I’m not a spiritual person, but I still think you can kind of see their soul there. Their essence. If they’re good or evil. The creepiest thing I’ve seen is probably living people with empty eyes, especially those without any kindness in them…”
► Shorter or Taller ➔ “Shorter, definitely. I’m quite short myself despite my heels and I don’t like it when someone looks down on me. Well, most of people kind of have to, they can’t help it, but you know?“
► Intelligence or Attraction ➔ “Pff, do you even need to ask? Intelligence, of course. There are very few things that… truly infuriate me… But the one thing I absolutely can’t stand in others is chosen stupidity. Yes, chosen! Can you believe, that there truly exists people who don’t want to learn new things, be it about themselves or other people or the world that surrounds them?” Silke starts to imitate an elderly person, talking in a low, hoarse tone: “Silly girl. If we would discover new things or try them out, we would be in a situation we’ve never been in before.” She bursts into a mocking laughter. “Yes, someone really said that to me…”
► Hook-up or Relationship ➔ “Relationship, hands down. I’ve had my share of hook-ups.” Silke apparently can’t stop her eyes rolling towards the roof as a protest.
FAMILY
► Do you and your family get along ➔ “Yeah, we get along very well. I have some arguments every now and then with my two siblings, but nothing too serious.”
► Would you say you have a “messed up life” ➔ “Not anymore. It used to be such a mess, though.” Silke lets out an uneasy laugh. “After me and Asagi were adopted, we got our life eventually back together. Despite a few ups and downs it’s been quite stable after that. A place to belong to and meaningful chores do wonders.”
► Have you ever ran away from home ➔ “No, definitely not. My parents have always been reasonable. Even during our wildest teenage years I can’t remember there would’ve been anything too major…“
► Have you ever gotten kicked out ➔ Silke has some difficulties holding back a sudden laughter. "I got kicked out of class, yeah! Though I still think it was unfair towards me. It wasn’t my fault. It was an alchemy class and I guess I had made some miscalculation with my mixture… I tried to tell my professor I’m not quite sure about it, but he just had to go and push his big head too close to the cauldron.”
FRIENDS
► Do you secretly hate one of your friends ➔ “No, I don’t hate my friends. If I did, I wouldn’t be friends with them, would I? Some of them have some annoying traits, but... hate? Nah.“
► Do you consider all of your friends good friends ➔ "Sadly no… I’ve had some… disappointments. You know, there’s quite a lot of people who seem like they’re good friends, but once you have a bad day, or few bad days, they suddenly disappear and want to hear nothing about it. So weird. I certainly wouldn’t abandon my friends like that.”
► Who is your best friend ➔ “Absolutely Iris. She’s a bit odd sometimes, in a good way though, and her vocabulary is quite vulgar and it upsets some people, but I think it’s hilarious. I’ve never met anyone so quick-witted before. There’s not a single boring moment while she’s around. Oh, and nowadays there’s also this certain miqo’te called Shaura. We haven’t known each other for very long, but just like with Iris, we just clicked right away.“
► Who knows everything about you ➔ “I think my sister might… I’ve tried to keep some secrets from her, like me loaning her gil without asking sometimes, but I think she knows. I have no idea how the heck! I mean, I’m smart, but she’s even smarter… If it was possible, I would like to change brains with her for a day or two. I want to know how she does it.”

Triplet De Spell Oneshot (Part One)
Part Two
@cinnabunni5123 ‘s writing motivated me enough to clean up my old writing and get it posted. I’ll get the rest of this out tomorrow, but if you want more of this AU writing then I seriously suggest visiting @cinnabunni5123 ‘s Ao3 page (where she’s writing a brilliant multi-chapter fic of my AU) or @pilyarquitect , who has written several amazing one-shots. Both are more reliable than I’ll ever be (plus they’ve got some awesome fics in general. Other than that, this is just one of my earlier ideas in which the triplets kinda bond with everybody in an episodic-type way. Really suggest checking out their writing though, I love everything about it.
The best thing about stealing the identity of a missing child? Is that you get to steal their life too. And the real Dewey Duck,( wherever he might be), had the best, most loving family ever. Dewey de Spell loved his fake life.
And Della was the coolest adult Dewey had ever met. She gave him hugs and kisses and had as much enthusiasm for trouble as he did. The real Dewey was so lucky to be born into this family. Who knew such cool moms existed?
So when Della invited him and his brothers to go on an adventure with her, Dewey immediately agreed. Every second he spent with Della were the best seconds of his life. He wanted more of them. He wanted all of them. He wanted to hoard as many as he could before Magica blew everything away.
So, given the choice between searching for the dime with Huey, or going on an epic adventure with his fake mom, he chose fake mom.
“But Dewey, we need you to search for the dime!” Huey shouted.
“Can’t. Gotta go with Della on an epic airplane adventure. Sorry you guys weren’t invited! I’m already late gotta go byyeee!” Dewey ran out the bedroom door before Huey could say any more, leaving his two brothers alone. He could still hear Huey screaming his name, but he was already out the hall and down the stairs. They had loads of time to find the dime. He could help any other day, but going on adventures with Della? That was limited.
Besides, getting the McDuck family’s trust was part of the plan anyway, and his siblings were doing a horrible job of that. Dewey was happy to pick up their slack in that regard.
When he made it outside to the Sunchaser, he saw Della dutifully polishing her plane with a rag, and Scrooge impatiently checking his watch. A sudden bubble of excitement rose in his chest, driving him to run forward and wave to both of them. Della waved happily back, but her smile immediately fell when she only saw him. His steps faltered. Did he do something wrong?
“Are Huey and Louie coming?” She asked.
From what he knew about mothers, they were supposed to love all their children equally. From what he saw on TV, they got worried when one of them went missing. Knowing all of this, and knowing he was being very unfair to his brothers, Dewey felt an overwhelming ball of possessiveness roll up his throat. Why did she ask? Does she prefer them to him? Did she not want him there? If she found out he said they weren’t invited, would she shut him out?
All of these feelings were pushed down with a simple shrug and lie. “They didn’t want to come.”
“They didn’t want to..?” Something troubled passed over her features, and all at once, the feelings rolled back up at full force. She’ll shut him out, send him away. Say the adventure wasn’t worth it if it was just Dewey on the plane. Huey was so much smarter anyway, and Louie was more likeable. They weren’t loud or annoying or destructive or—
“More seats for us then, am I right?” Della laughed and threw an easy arm over his shoulder. “Double the leg room. We’ll have fun, just the two of us.”
‘Just the two of us’ became Dewey’s most favorite string of words, ever.
They boarded together, Scrooge following closely behind. Dewey could feel him staring, but ignored it. Della was smiling at him and he wasn’t going to let Scrooge ruin this moment for him.
“So which ones are the torpedo launchers?” The young duckling asked, ogling at the array of buttons and levers.
“Yer thinkin of submarines, boy,” Scrooge grumbled.
Della laughed and sat in the pilot’s seat, gesturing for Dewey to sit down beside her. “Yeah, no torpedos. Here, I’ll show what these buttons do.”
Scrooge left for the back of the plane. Dewey could feel the old man’s irritation just below his forced calm facade, and that’s why he forced himself to stay completely still until he heard Scrooge take his seat. Angry adults were unpredictable at their best, and he didn’t want to do anything to set him off. Once Dewey was sure that Mr. McDuck was at a safe distance, he relaxed and let Della show him how to steer.
Dewey peered out the window as they lifted off, amazed at how quickly they rose. Aunt Magica sometimes told them about her flying broom, old and broken and sitting unused in the corner of the closet. He wondered if she felt this happy when she flew.
____________________________________________________________________
Huey, meanwhile, was fuming. “I can’t believe he would just walk out like that! Doesn’t he care at all—!”
Louie shrugged. “Eh, who needs him anyway. Let Dewey waste time with our fake mom if he wants. We know where the real treasure is.”
Huey sighed, nodding. “Yeah, you’re right. We know our priorities.” After a moment, he tilted his head. “...do you really think Della didn’t invite us? Actually, never mind. Doesn’t matter.”
The thought of not being invited did sting, but honestly, it sounded like the exact type of lie Dewey would spin.
“Where are we searching today?” Louie asked.
Huey pulled out two pieces of paper from his coat pocket and unfolded them. One was a map of the mansion grounds, and the other was a neatly organized checklist. Huey visibly brightened at the sight of his own handiwork, proud of the neat lines and careful planning.
“According to our checklist—”
“Which you wrote,” said Louie.
“—Our next stop in the Money Bin. That’s where Scrooge keeps all his treasures.
Louie grinned and rubbed his hands together greedily. “I wonder how much he’s got stocked in there? I’ve heard, he only piles up his gold to swim in it!”
“That’s so gross.”
“Maybe to you, but to me?” Louie put a fist over his heart. “this is the kind of wealth I aspire to.”
Huey snorted and shook his head. “Well, he’s got all his money in there. So logically, he’d put the dime in there too.”
Louie silently disagreed. If he had an important all-powerful dime, he’d store it someplace special! Not with all the common treasure. But Louie rarely spoke his opinions out loud. Coming up with plans (especially plans for Magica) was a risk, and Huey willingly took that risk every time. It was so much easier to follow than lead.
Also, he really, really wanted to see the Bin. No way he was ruining this chance by expressing his doubts now, of all times.
“Let’s get going then,” Louie said, pushing his brother out the door. “We’ve got treasure to see and dimes to steal. Let’s go, go, go!”
“Okay, okay. Wait, one minute. Just… there’s a problem. We don’t know how to get in, and it’s probably locked.”
“So? That’s why we’ve got magic, Huey. I’m a magical lock-smith.”
Huey shook his head. “That’s not enough. Haven’t you seen how many protection wards there are in this mansion alone ? I can’t even imagine how many guard spells he’s got at the money bin. I was hoping Dewey could maybe break through them, but he ran off—”
“What are you guys whispering about?”
“AGH!” Louie jumped backward, clutching his heart in fright at the third unexpected voice that appeared above them. Looking up, they saw Webby hanging out of a ventilation shaft in the ceiling, grinning sheepishly.
“Wha—WEBBY! Were you spying on us!?” Louie cried.
“Not on purpose. I was just coming over to see what you guys were doing.” She hopped down and landed easily next to them.
Louie’s heart was still racing, and knowing that Webby could’ve been listening to them at any time scared him. He was unable to keep the irritation from his voice when he snapped,“That’s creepy. Just knock on the door like a normal person.”
Webby winced, sheepishly pulling on her sweater. “I’m sorry. I just wanted to see what you were doing.”
Huey was also startled, and made a personal note to be more aware of the vents next time they planned. He was annoyed, but didn’t want to hurt her feelings. “It’s fine, just please don’t do that again.”
Webby nodded seriously, and then tilted her head. “What were you guys talking about anyway? I couldn’t hear anything from up there.”
“Nothing,” Louie answered.
“Secrets,” Huey blurted.
Webby squealed and rocked on her heals excitedly. “Secrets are my favorite! I’m so good at keeping them. Let me tell you one of mine! I’ve hidden several spears all over the mansion, so that I’m always ready for attack.”
Louie smacked a hand on his forehead. Huey was the worst at lying. Why couldn’t he keep his beak shut?”
Webby continued. “I told you one of my secrets. Now what’s yours?”
While Huey panicked at the question, fumbling for words, Louie, saw an opportunity. He put a hand on Huey’s shoulder and squeezed, silently assuring him that he could handle this.
“We’ve got a lot of secrets,” Louie grinned. “But you wanna know our biggest one?”
Louie could feel Huey tense behind him while Webby nodded eagerly. Louie paused for dramatic effect, eating a good few seconds before revealing, “We’re McDuck nerds. We love all things Scrooge McDuck.”
Webby gasped. “You too!? I thought I was the only one!”
“Well, you’re not. We’ve been researching the McDuck family four entire lives.” Which was technically true. Magica has repeatedly cursed every aunt, uncle, and cousin of the McDuck family for as they could remember.
“That’s amazing! What do you wanna talk about first? The time he saved an entire city from King Akhum’s curse? Or how about that time he outsmarted a village of evil seers, who foretold false prophecies of death? Or maybe we should go all the way back to his birth; Glasgow, 1867. The night was cold, and the air was—”
“We already know all that,” Louie interrupted, waving away her words. Then he faked a sad expression. “That’s the problem. We already learned everything there is to know, but we still haven’t seen the real thing. His artifacts, his treasures, his adventures...”
“Oh. That’s because he keeps it all in his Money Bin,” Webby said.
Louie brightened. “Really? You’ve seen it?”
Webby laughed. “Of course I have. Uncle Scrooge takes me there all the time.”
“Do you think you can get us in?” Huey asked hopefully.
Webby immediately stepped back, rubbing her arm anxiously. “Um, I don’t know. I’m actually not allowed in there by myself…”
“You won’t be by yourself, you’ll have us,” Louie encouraged. “C’mon, we’re all experts. You can be our guide. Uncle Scrooge and Della are out, so they can’t escort us anyway”
Webby shook her head, still unsure. “I can ask my Granny… she can take us.”
“Please?” Louie begged. “This has been our dream our entire lives.”
Webby looked away, and he realized he needed a different angle. He crossed his arms, and changed his tone from pleading to accusing.
“This is the type of stuff friends do for each other. I thought you were our friend.”
Webby jerked back, as if burned by his words. He felt bad, but it had the exact effect he wanted.
“N-no no! I am! I am your friend! I Just don’t want to—”
Louie rolled right over her protests. “This is the type of stuff friends do for each other. It’s not even a big deal, you’ve been there a hundred times.”
Webby looked so torn and hurt that Louie almost apologized right then and there, but he hardened himself. He was good at exactly one thing and he wasn’t gonna backtrack just because of a little guilt. He looked toward Huey, silently hoping he could top this off with a little bit of his natural good cop routine.
Thankfully, he stepped in.
“You’re our best friend, Webby,” Huey said sincerely. “It would mean the world to us if you could show us around.”
Louie held his breath as Webby thought on their words, still torn between house rules and peer pressure.
This is… this is what friends do for each other, right?” Webby asked.
“Oh yes, definitely,” Louie assured. Huey also nodded. This is what friends did on TV, after all. They always snuck around behind the adults’ backs.
Webby sighed decisively, her expression determined. “Okay. Let’s do this.”

Tom vs. The Underworld
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Chapter 6 | Chapter 7 | Chapter 8 | Chapter 9 | Chapter 10
Chapter 3: Santeria, Part 2
We came to the Susanoo Hot Spring at the base of the Mountain of Boom. The resort was quite lavish and architecturally exquisite; it was like something you would see in Japan. This was definitely the highlight of this town. There were demons and monster tourists everywhere. We came to an outdoor lounge area where what looked to be the rest of Raya’s family had been waiting.
“Belmontes, front and center!” Albion called. And with a snap, eight more Stone Demons assembled. “We have been granted the honor of being blessed with the arrival of our Prince of the Underworld, Thomas Lucitor. Welcome him and accept receiving him here today.” He bowed at the conclusion of his announcement.
I tried to say, “Really we don’t have to be so formal I--”
“First my oldest son, Your Highness. Tremaine.” Albion continued.
The eldest son approached me and bowed. He had the same serious expression like his father as he said, “Your Highness, it is my pleasure to receive you.”
“Hey, nice to meet ya.” I said.
“My eldest daughter, Rochelle, Your Highness.” Albion continued.
The eldest daughter approached and bowed. She had a sophisticated stare and said, “Your Highness, it is my pleasure to receive you.”
“Yo, what’s up.” I said.
“My daughter, Shaila, Your Highness.” Albion continued.
His second daughter approached and bowed. She had a bouncy attitude as she said, “Your Highness, it is my pleasure to receive you.”
“Really you don’t have to--”
“My son, Cephastian, Your Highness.” Albion continued.
The second son approached and bowed. He seemed a bit unnerved as he said, “Your Highness, it is my pleasure to receive you.”
“Ok, just keep going I gue--”
“My daughter, Kivi, Your Highness.” Albion continued.
The third daughter approached and bowed. She oozed a snobbish aura about her as she said, “Your Highness, it is my pleasure to receive you.”
“Yes, hi, nice to meet you.” I said with a sigh.
“The twins, Piers and Peter, Your Highness.” Albion continued.
The twin boys approached and bowed with the same motion as if they were one. They were the ones Albion vaguely mentioned who were spying on Raya and I earlier. Both boys had mischievous grins on their faces as they said, “Your Highness, it is our pleasure to receive you.”
“Wow, there is just as many kids as Pony Head’s family…” I muttered under my breath. I glimpsed over to see Raya smiling gently as she watched the entire exchange. It made me smile a bit too honestly.
“And finally, my wife, of the Harlow family, Griselda.” Albion took his wife’s hand and presented her to me.
But instead of being as ceremonious as her family, Griselda took me in her arms for a tight embrace that squeezed the air from my lungs. She said cheerily. “Your Highness, thank you for coming! We are so happy to have you and learn Raya wasn’t lying when she said she met you before!”
“Mom!” Raya groaned as she blushed in embarrassment.
“Yea of course. It is nice meeting all of you. Thank you for welcoming me.” I beamed. Although a bit overwhelming at first, they seemed to be a great family. It felt nice feeling accepted.
“Now let’s all reserve the private dining room and treat our Prince to a feast in his honor.” Albion commanded as the rest of the family eagerly agreed.
“Oh, well I don’t want to impose or anything like that.” I said while rubbing the back of my head.
“Nonsense, Your Highness!” Albion startled me with a friendly pat on the back. “It would be rude if we did not put up our Prince!”
Deep down I wanted to be included and was glad he obliged.
And with that, we were inside the hot spring’s Ryokan-styled Inn and placed in there dining area within minutes of the staff learning of my arrival. We were all sitting on tatami floors with a great table before us. Waitresses entered with elaborate cuisines and exited with our empty dishes through the sliding doors behind us. Raya’s family was incredible. The Stone Demon clan seemed like their hunger was never-ending as each of their plates were cleared one by one. They were a close family and after being in my presence for a bit, they began to get comfortable around me and not be so formal. And although Albion was loud, he was a jolly soul that really loved his family. Him and his wife sat across from me and proudly praised each one of their children and noted their accomplishments. This was a much-needed change.
I looked over to Raya who had been furiously clearing plates as if it were a contest. All her siblings were doing the same and reaching over the other for the next dish even before their own was finished.
I leaned over and said to her, “Heeeey, the food isn’t going anywhere, you know.” I chuckled.
“Oh!” She brought her head up from her trance and looked at me, realizing she must have forgotten I was sitting next to her. “I’m sorry, Prince Tom. That’s kind of rude of me” She began patting her face with her napkin hastily.
“Heh, I was just joking. That’s cool you have an appetite.” I laughed. “And you know, it's pretty sweet when you get nervous too.”
Raya started fiddling with chopsticks and looking at her plate, her face as red as her hair.
I chuckled to myself again and focused on my own plate now. It was nice being in a new place with different faces for a change. The atmosphere was perfect. It was lively yet full of warmth. The resort was amazing. The food was delicious. I bet Star would have liked this…
Suddenly, Albion began slamming the table as if he were a judge banging his gavel. “Now, Belmonte Family, we have eaten our fill, have we not?” His children boisterously concurred. “Haha! And with such a feast in honor of our future King of the Underworld, we must unwind with a refreshing dip in the Yomi Hot Spring!”
Raya snapped up from her shy spell and disputed him. “Dad, I’m sure Prince Tom doesn’t want to spend his day soaking with commoners.”
“Actually, that does sound kind of nice.” I thought it over.
Raya was about to advise her disagreement further but her family’s cheers of approval drowned her out. They all stood from the table with a flash and we were on our way.
The hot springs of Yomi were so cool. Tremaine was telling me how the water here is famous for rejuvenating your soul and revitalizing your inner demons. Literally. All of mine were in bliss as they emitted from me like I were casting a shadow on the water I was lounging in. Tremaine thought it was sick one demon can have that many in them. The two eldest brothers and I were sitting in a smaller part of the hot spring with a waterfall spraying down in front of us.
“I like that it is the right temperature too. Boiling.” I exhaled in pleasure. But then I just realized something and asked, “Hey, the temperature doesn’t harm any of you?”
“No, Prince Tom. Stone Demons are impervious to fire and heat.” Tremaine explained.
“Sweet.” I said. Well that explains why hardly any of the tourist monsters are in the spring. The ones that couldn’t stand the heat were all enjoying the steam it released on the sideline in their lounge chairs. It was still soothing enough and causing the same effects as being in the spring would.
“Skull Ball!” Piers shouted as he unexpectedly came crashing down into the hot spring.
“Double Skull Ball!” Peter shouted next as he came splashing in balled up as well.
“Hey! Why do you always do that! Both of you are so childish, why don’t you act your age sometimes?!” Cephastian stood up from his seated position next to us and glanced over in my direction. “Agh! Both of you got Prince Tom wet!”
“Aren’t we all wet though?” Piers said sarcastically.
“Haha, it’s cool, bro.” I said leaning back with my hands cradling the back of my head.
“Yea, Cephas, it’s cool, bro!” Peter mocked his older brother as he used his arm to fling water at him.
“That’s it! Hyugh!” Cephastian barked back while placing his hand on the closest boulder by the edge of the spring.
“Hey Cephas, keep your temper in check before you--” Tremaine warned but it was too late.
Cephastian used his ability to make the boulder light enough to pick up and hurled it to the space next to Piers and Peter. Once it was no longer touching him, the boulder regained its previous weight. It hit the water with so much force that it pushed it away and out of the small spring that we were sitting in. All of the bystanders were engulfed by the wave of boiling water and were now writhing from the heat.
“Ugh. Cephas.” Tremaine rolled his eyes.
The hot spring started to fill back up from its waterfall regardless of the turn of events.
I was looking behind me at the ones left in pain. The tourists were running around and screaming that it burned. I asked bemused, “Um… Are they ok?”
“I don’t know. I guess. This happens all the time.” Tremaine shrugged as he looked at his younger brother annoyed. Piers and Peter were now on each of Cephastian’s arms trying to pull him into the waterfall as he yelled for them to stop. Tremaine took it upon himself and went to go stop their bickering.
Having brothers would be kind of crazy, but it would be fun too.
“Haha! Boys will be boys!” Albion laughed deeply from behind me, making my heart jump yet again. He proceeded to sit down next to me in the hot spring.
“Oh, Mr. Belmonte. I wanted to thank you. This has been great, I didn’t expect my day to go this way honestly.” I expressed my gratitude to the paternal demon.
Albion’s expression grew serious. “Young Prince, Raya tells me you both visited the temple here.”
“Yea! It was amazing! I mean, I’ve seen torture before but never—“
“Do you understand what Amaterasu Temple symbolizes, Young Prince?” Albion cut me off, still in his serious tone.
I shook my head in a “no”. I tried to think back at what I may have learned about Yomi Town before, but it had never been mentioned. Not even by my parents. I didn’t even know the name of the temple come to think of it. I mean, this was the first time I’ve been here. All I knew of this place was what I saw today and what Raya had told me.
“Did you know, the Belmontes are the Underworld’s most renowned stonemasons? I have built so many landmarks and structures, Lucitor Castle being one of my accomplishments.” Albion mentioned.
“Whoa really?” I gasped at the revelation by Albion.
He nodded and continued. “When I was a boy, my father and grandfather were commissioned to build Amaterasu Temple together, in which I was able to help alongside them for the first time. They taught me how to construct something as grand as that.”
“That is awesome. You could really tell all the time and hard work you and your family must’ve put into it. It took my breath away honestly.” I complimented the large Stone Demon.
“Heh. Thank you for your acknowledgement, Young Prince.” Albion gave a hearty chuckle but soon cut it short as he said, “It was crafted from stone we mined from the Mountain of Boom known as obsidian. Do you know why we used such a material?”
I thought it over and said, “Must be for the color and effect. It being shiny and black catches your eye.”
Albion chuckled again, “That’s partly true but there is another purpose as well.” He cast his gaze up toward the Mountain of Boom and grew pensive. “Obsidian can be used by our people as a totem for protection, healing, and truthfulness. Therefore, if you are lacking in any of those aspects, it is best to enter the temple in order to gain the power of what it can provide. It rids the body of the resentments, fear, and anger that has been built up and helps the seeker calm his mind to think clearly again. In short, all the negativity you are facing will be cancelled out from existence. ”
“...” I was speechless so I continued to listen quietly to what Albion had to say.
“There are many opinions that have skewed what Amaterasu Temple is used for--tortures, rituals, ceremonies--but to me and what my grandfather and father built it for was more philosophical than those reasons. It was created for the beliefs that I gave you. To help those who are lost and need protection, healing, and the truth. It is a special place I have shared with my family. For all of my children were born there in order to take in those same three properties.”
“Oh wow…” I was intrigued by finding out such a remarkable bit of information about Raya and her family. Now it makes sense why she looked at the temple so proudly. It is apart of her family legacy. It is where she was born. This place is where she was born. I wonder why she never mentioned it?
Albion now cast his gaze upon me as he spoke. “Over the years, I’ve noticed Raya being very drawn to that temple. Most importantly, out of all of the Belmonte children, she is the one closest to what I envisioned for Amaterasu Temple. Raya is growing highly clairvoyant. She may not see it yet but she will in time. I mean, she was able to sense what was troubling you enough to guide you to the temple, Young Prince.”
“W-what?” I stammered.
“You’ve come here in search of protection, healing, and the truth. And Raya helped you find it or is still helping you find it in some way.” Albion theorized.
“Huh… I guess that could be right…”
Albion chuckled a bit. “Heh. Sorry to get so serious, Young Prince. I suppose I just want you to better understand what is precious to us. And I hope you have been able to recognize what is precious to you from your time here.”
What is precious to me now?
“Raya is the youngest and is still trying to find her place in the world. She is stagnant when it comes to change and making friends; she still has the same five she has grown up with since she was little.” Albion studied the steady moving water around us. His sons had moved on to the top of the waterfall and looked as if they were trying to push Cephastian off of it.
Albion continued speaking, “It is nice to see her branching out and making new friends, and with our Prince no less. That is highly out of the ordinary for her but you are a special person regardless of your family name. So I hope you value your friendship.”
I perked up and affirmed his remark, “Yes, of course, Mr. Belmonte! We even made—“ Oh no! What happened to our friendship necklaces we made at the temple?!
Albion smiled down at me, not realizing I cut my sentence short. “And I would not object if in time it became a union of great strength for the Belmonte name as well, Your Highness. We must all be strong for the future of our Underworld.”
“Y-Yea… you’re right.” I grew pensive now and glanced away. We were both silent after that, but it was more in a mutual understanding way instead of an awkward one. There was so much more I needed to learn about this place, the Underworld, and everything in general. How could I have gotten this out of touch? How can I become a better prince for my people?
We continued to bask in the Hot Spring, content with each other’s company. And being entertained by the Belmonte boys pushing Cephastian over the waterfall.
As twilight was beginning to encompass the Susanoo Hot Spring, I was now checking out the rest of the resort alone and still thinking over what Albion told me earlier. The Belmontes suggested that I come with them and partake in the nightly activities that were being highlighted by the Inn but I think it was time for me to bow out. As much as I liked the company of such a large family--especially after they opened my mind to how I’ve been handling my situation--it was best for me to start figuring my issues out again apart from them. I thanked and said goodbye to all of them before they dispersed. All except Raya who was not with them.
I wonder where she ran off to? I haven’t seen her since dinner. I hope I didn’t upset her by agreeing to keep on hanging out with her family like that. She did seem embarrassed with me being around but hopefully she knows I’m the last to judge anyone, her family was awesome! … I wish she would’ve told me more about the temple and why it was so special to her… I wonder if I’ll even see her again…
As if on cue with my thoughts, there she was. Raya was standing on a small bridge in the garden of the hot spring that faced the Mountain of Boom.
I waved my hand so she could see me as I shouted for her, “Hey! Raya!”
She brought her head in my direction and squinted through the passersby until I caught her sight.
I navigated through the crowd and was in front of her in no time.
Seeing Raya again gave me an indescribable feeling—like when you go to a carnival and you ride your favorite ride over and over. The thrill of going and the anticipation of waiting in line until it’s your turn. That feeling of not wanting it to end... But why am I feeling like this now? Was it because I thought I wouldn’t have been able to thank her or say goodbye before I left? Did I really want to leave right now?
Raya held one of her hands to her chest while the other was tucked away in her jean jacket pocket. “I see you survived… I hope my Dad and brothers weren’t too… aggressive...” She coyly said but wouldn’t meet my gaze.
“Nah, they were pretty awesome.” I shrugged.
“...” Raya continued to stare at the stream beneath us as the other guests of the resort walked on by. This silence was odd, especially after today. I wonder why she doesn’t want to talk much to me now? We did spend most of the day together so maybe she was just tired of me hanging around… Like Star was…
I shook the thought from my head. Why do I keep doing this. After everything that was said and done today, Raya would never be like that. She even said it herself and I had to respect her words by believing in them. But is this the appropriate time to tell her goodbye or should I wait it out a little longer?
I decided to carry on the conversation instead. So I told her, “Hey your dad told me all about that temple we went to. Totally cool that he built it with his dad and grandpa.”
“Oh..”
“And he told me how special it is to your family. That’s amazing you were born there.” I tried coaxing her further.
But she didn’t budge as she mumbled, “Oh, he even told you that…”
“Oh and your brothers are so funny! Cephas dumped all the water out of the hot spring and onto the guests just because he was mad at the twins. You should’ve seen it, haha.” I laughed nervously.
“...”
I was getting a little annoyed from her vague responses, if anything at all, but I was determined to get us back to the way we were. Us? Well yes, there isn’t anything wrong with wanting to hold on to a friendship. No matter if you’ve only known the person a short while… And like her dad said, I do value our friendship and if she does too she will tell me what’s wrong.
I took a breath and gave her a reassuring smile as I stepped in front of her. I asked her, “Hey, is everything okay?”
Now that I had cut off her view of the stream, she had no choice but to look me in the eyes and talk. Or so I thought.
Raya clenched her eyes shut and seemed to be trying her hardest not to break down and cry. But why?
I grew concerned and placed my hands on her shoulders to get her attention further. I asked her again, “Hey what’s up? Did I do something to upset you?”
Raya broke from her momentary silence and finally replied, “Of course not, Prince Tom…”
“Okay… Well what’s going on…” I retreated my hands away from her shoulders. I was unsure of how to proceed. I didn’t want to pressure her and I didn’t want to get upset either. But that’s what landed me in the situation I’m in before I came here. Because me not wanting to goad the truth is why I wound up in Yomi Town hurting. I didn’t want to feel that pain right now.
I explained further, “It’s just… You’ve been acting kind of distant and it’s kind of bringing up negative feelings I’ve had with--”
“I just thought you left without saying goodbye!” Raya blurted out.
And then that unusual feeling from earlier returned. It was my turn to be silent as she spoke.
“I’m sorry, Prince Tom. I should’ve known better, it is an insult to question your character especially after the day we had. I ran into my family after you left them and Piers and Peter heavily implied how you already left and told them all goodbye.” Raya gave a sigh of relief after getting all that off her chest.
I couldn’t help but smile from what she said. I can’t believe I also questioned her character after today. I felt some relief too.
“Especially since…” Raya’s hand began to tremble in her pocket as she meekly stammered, “I… I thought you left… without giving you…”
Suddenly, a demon pulling his son along bumped into my shoulder. He apologized as they hurried away with both Raya and I looking to where he was heading. I realized there was a lot of commotion as other guests were heading toward a certain location in the garden.
There was a sizable crowd starting to circle around a large basin at the foot of the Mountain of Boom. I asked her, “What’s going on over there?”
“... Oh, that’s Old Fearful. It’s a gigantic fire geyser that erupts every hour, spewing its incinerating flame from the mountain’s core.” Raya said matter-of-factly.
“Okay I need to see this.” I said without hesitation. “Let’s go!” I didn’t realize I had grabbed onto the demon girl’s hand as we ran over to the gathering crowd. Something about it just felt right. And for a second it felt as if I were running with Star.
Raya and I stood among the ruckus of demons anxiously waiting for the show to begin. I could see a large mound on the ground with what appeared to be steam releasing from it. People were chattering away until a loud hiss abruptly escaped from the opening of the mound and quieted the crowd. And then with a flash, a huge gulf of magma flared out like a flame from a lighter. It was bright and blinding as it illuminated the darkening atmosphere. It shot so high in the air, I’m sure all of Yomi Town was able to witness this spectacle. It was beautiful.
The blaze was so hot that a lot of the guests standing closer to it had to flee unless they wanted to be scorched by such blistering heat. For some reason, I felt another undefinable feeling as I observed the fiery geyser. I was in awe but I felt something familiar. It felt like when I would also blow up in rage towards my friends. Was it that terrifying and unbearable for them? But the Mountain of Boom was different. This was natural for it and it had to let go of what was built up within it, kind of like a more liberating experience. Could I learn to handle my stress in a more positive way? Maybe that will help my situation with...
Being deep in thought, I didn’t know I was still holding Raya’s hand and began lightly squeezing it. I felt her squeeze back.
We sat on a bench nearby and watched Old Fearful until it diminished back to its previous frothing state. The crowd had disbanded by now, leaving just the two of us still enjoying what we had seen. The steam from the geyser that enveloped us was a comforting heat and I felt my mind and body were at a most unexpected peace.
I hope Star is having as much fun as I am… Ugh, why am I even thinking of that right now… She probably doesn’t even.... Ugh
“Prince Tom?” I heard Raya pipe up.
“Hm? Yea what’s up?” I asked her.
“Excuse me for asking--I’m just curious is all... And it has been in the back of my mind all day.” Raya sat up a bit from our lounged position. “... What brings you to such a normal place like this? I mean, for us lesser demons, this is as adventurous as we get.” The demon girl stared ruefully at her hands in her lap. “You must’ve been pretty bored today…”
“No way, today was sweet!” My sudden outburst caused Raya to flinch. “I mean, the shops, the temple, and the hot spring with this flaming geyser. It was the best!” I calmed my excitement and leaned back with my hands behind my head. “I mean, I’m to rule the Underworld one day so might as well get to know everything about it, right?”
Raya looked toward the sky with a dreamlike gaze. “... Such a life to be someone as important as you. You must have so much fun being a prince. Everyday must be something new. My life is always the same… Just ordinary.”
“There’s nothing wrong with that. Sometimes I wish my life was ordinary. Your family is awesome. I’m kind of envious.” I gave a half-smile as I looked up towards the sky as well. “My parents are away a lot so I have to stand-in for them while they’re gone. I can handle it but… It’s just so many people are watching me to succeed and carry on my family’s legacy. It can get kind of overwhelming.”
“That’s how I feel too!” Raya startled me from her change in tone. “When others find out that I’m a Belmonte, they just assume I’m to be just like my Dad, or a great forger like my Mom. My siblings don’t help none either. Everyone just tries to keep me in this box.”
“Heh, no kidding.” I agreed.
“Yea, just because I like music over building, or take longer than others to come to a decision, or just ‘cause I’m a little clumsy here and there. I’m just a…” I noticed Raya hold her hand to her mouth, silencing what she was intending to say. “Sorry, Prince Tom. I kind of get a little… passionate when it comes to… I don’t know.”
“Destiny.” I finished her sentence as I started to gaze upward again.
Raya took a breath and went on to say, “I just wish… I wish that your destiny weren’t so heavily decided by who your parents are…”
I closed my eyes and said rather forlorn, “You’re like her too, huh.”
“Hm?” Raya looked over to me, wondering who I was referring to.
“Everyone has their own path… ” I muttered.
“Prince Tom?” Raya sounded concerned.
I shook my head in order to bring me back to my senses. “It’s nothing, just thinking out loud.”
“Oh, ok…” Raya quieted.
It would probably be best to change the subject anyway before I grow sad over the situation I’m in with Star. I was doing somewhat good at forgetting about it but was that really helping me?
“Actually, in response to your question earlier, I’m trying to decide on which dimension to visit. I haven’t been to many and I’m just taking some time to figure it out, I guess.” I felt the smile I gave her was a bit forced.
“Oh, really? All I’ve ever known is the Underworld. You’re able to travel across the multiverse?” Raya grew interested in what I had mentioned.
“Yea, I can use portals.”
“Wicked cool!” Raya leaned in excitedly. For a moment, she had let a little bit of her personality break through her shyness; but then she caught it just as fast again. “Erm--I mean, that’s great...” the demon girl began to blush as she placed her hands quickly in her lap and darted her head away in embarrassment.
I couldn’t help but chuckle as I looked back at Old Fearful’s orifice. Its steam left a somber mist hanging among us; to some it would feel eerie, but to me it was tranquil. You could hear the busy sounds of the Inn behind us and the boiling and bubbling of the hot spring around us. I’m glad I ended up in a place such as this. But then I started to feel guilty again.
This is how it should be, everything about being here is how it should feel, but with Star. I hate being away from her. I hate not being able to contact her. Does she even care how I feel? Why won’t she choose me? How can I even attempt to be happy knowing she isn’t the one here sitting next to me...
The creeping sadness began to show on my face again and I knew Raya saw it for sure this time.
“Prince Tom, is everything alright?” I heard her ask. I just couldn’t keep it in anymore.
“I… I’m sorry… It isn’t anything about you, or your family, or today. Today was great! I just… I just can’t stop thinking about my girlfriend and what I should do next. I thought if I distracted myself or got away or just--I don’t know, I don’t know what I’m feeling anymore or what I should do. I feel like I know but she is just so… special to me… But… Ugh!” I got up from the bench and rubbed my hands through my head slightly agitated.
Raya stood up too and held her hands to her chest. I realized that was a habit of hers that she would do when she was nervous. Was I making her nervous? Or was I making her feel insecure? What’s wrong with me… How inconsiderate of me to just start ranting about my personal problems after all this time her and her family spent cheering me up. Raya was patient and had a subtle outlook on life. She wasn’t loud or attention-seeking, nor was she plain by any means. She was different. She had a shell that I started to see crack the more she becomes comfortable around me. Her eccentric mind was admirable and although she seemed a bit spacey at times, I see a girl that is just looking for something more than the ordinary life she has been given. Raya took the time out of her own family vacation to spend it with me. And here I am just neglecting her hospitality by wishing Star were here… This is just so difficult to figure out right now… Maybe this is something I should’ve waited to talk to my Mom about…
And then suddenly, Raya had a reassuring expression cover her face and spoke in a tone that matched the softness in her eyes, “She must make you very happy… When I first met you, Prince Tom, you had this smile that could brighten any room… Something I wish I am capable of doing one day. Just being a reason for someone’s happiness… Your girlfriend was the reason for that smile, I’m sure...”
But then, the female stone demon’s smile disappeared into a slight frown as she cast her lemon-colored eyes away. “For someone to make you this upset--you, our Prince of the Underworld--it is… It hurts us all. I want you to be happy again, I’ll listen to whatever problems you have and try to help you find a way back to that happiness with her if I can. So please, let me know what happened and maybe we can figure out how you can resolve things with her.”
Raya looked back at me with another smile that gave me solace. I was surprised and couldn’t help but to follow through with her offer. So I gushed.
“Okay… Well, she keeps shutting me out. And whenever there is a problem between us, she runs away from it or we just pretend it doesn’t exist. I want her to tell me what I did wrong so I can fix it or at least confide in me with what bothers her, but I never get that chance. I always come second because she puts her best friend before me. He is someone I care about too, so the situation is just kind of… complicated. I care about them both and feel selfish wanting her all to myself sometimes. But that’s how a boyfriend should feel about his girlfriend.” I didn’t realize I had started to pace back and forth as my ranting continued.
“And the more I tried to close the distance between us, the more I was pushed away. I tried everything. But in the end I was the one who kept running away from the truth.” I clenched back tears and turned away from the redhead. Thinking about all of this was one thing, but actually revealing what has been building inside of me for so long was showing it for the hard reality that it is. This was what heartbreak feels like, and it was so painful. But for some reason, getting it off my chest was also alleviating some of that pain. “I’m tired of not being acknowledged. I’m tired of not knowing what I’m doing wrong or if I’m doing anything right. Just once I want to be able for her to understand why I’m upset sometimes and that she can take a step back and value my own feelings for a change. Is that too much to ask of your girlfriend?”
Raya was silent for a moment.
I held my head down and said, “I’m sorry, Raya. I shouldn’t be dumping all of this on you like this…” I began rubbing my left arm as if it were sore.
“No, I’m sorry, Prince Tom…” Raya looked genuinely saddened by my revelation. “I don’t know how that feels, or what you could do… I have never been in a relationship… but I would think both involved should make each other’s feelings a priority over the feelings of others outside of their relationship…”
“Yea… I wish that were my case…”
“And your feelings matter just as much as hers!” Raya straightened up and became a bit serious with me. “Your situation may seem complicated, but that doesn’t describe a typical relationship to me. I really only have my parents to go off of here, but they would never do to each other what you say your girlfriend is doing to you… Sorry if I’m being too blunt...”
“No, not at all. I think I actually need to hear this…” I started to get this strange feeling of adrenaline in my chest from listening to what Raya had to say.
“Have you told your girlfriend what’s been bothering you at all?” She asked me.
“No… If I do, I feel I’ll just stress her out even more over what I want and she’ll just shut me out. Or she’ll want to break up… And I don’t know if I’m ready for that or if I want that… I’ve come a long way for her. I changed a lot for her. Should I just let it all be for nothing?” I looked down at the ground defeated.
“Has she done the same for you?” Raya spoke rather straightforwardly.
“What?” I was taken aback by her sudden change in tone.
“Has she changed for you too?” She repeated herself. “Because if you’re the only one that has changed or you have to avoid conflict instead of working through it with her just so she won’t leave, then that doesn’t seem fair at all to me.”
“Well... She hasn’t really shown me a definite change when it comes to being in a relationship…” I pondered that possibility. “Maybe I was too focused on changing for her that I forgot about her own insecurities that she needed to work on as well. I think I was just scared that Star was going to get so far ahead of me on the path she has chosen for herself that I wouldn’t be able to catch up. ”
“Yea, but where does your path lead?” Raya had a newfound air of sophistication about her and was speaking as if she were a totally different person. She continued to speak without reservation and practically challenged my way of thinking. Brian would give me coping techniques but this was a method that nobody ever has done for me before. I was interested to hear more of what she had to say..
“My path? I hadn’t really thought of my own, it was always shadowed by Star’s. I know what I want to be in the future, but I don’t know if she’ll be by my side and that’s what’s freaking me out the most...”
“Like you said earlier. Everyone has their own path. I think what you want to say is that those paths will either come together with another or they will separate and go its own way. You start out on the path of another, such as your parents, but eventually you’ll have to branch out and figure out your own way to get where you’re destined to be. If you truly feel you’re headed on one different from what others believe then go for it. You are Prince Thomas Lucitor, future King of the Underworld. If both you and your girlfriend’s paths can’t compromise to one day end at what you believe is your destiny, then I think you have the only answer you need.”
“Is that really all it is?” I whispered to myself. Raya’s words really resonated with me. Am I in denial of the possibility of our paths beginning to separate? Have I really been making this way more complicated than it needed to be? I started to feel that adrenaline build in my chest once more. I was starting to feel frustrated. But not with what Raya was saying, or the situation with Star again; I was frustrated with myself.
“Are you alright, Prince Tom? I hope I wasn’t being too harsh…” Raya asked attentively.
“Not at all... You know, your father was right about you.”
“Hm?” She blinked confused.
“Heh nevermind...” I forced a smile and looked back toward the ground. “Back then, I probably would’ve blown up and used my anger and power in a way to get what I want. I was a person back then you or your family probably would never want to be around.”
“If you and your girlfriend break up, will you go back to that person you once were?”
Raya’s question shocked me. I began to remember how I use to be. How much others hated me. How Star couldn’t stand me and how cruel I was to Marco. I never want to go back to that person.
“Never.” I told her.
“Then maybe all this time you weren’t just changing for your girlfriend. She was the catalyst for you to start on your own path towards your destiny. You changed for yourself and that’s something you should be proud of.” Raya commended me.
“Yea… I just can’t believe I almost wasted all my progress by almost blowing up at her. I mean, I was getting angry with Star just because she didn't pick a place to go to from a silly book when I can’t even do the same myself...” I threw my arms up and landed back on the bench. We sat for a moment without talking to each other but it was Raya who finally broke the silence.
“Um, Prince Tom, can your portal take you anywhere?” She asked.
“Yea, of course. As long as I know where it is I’m going that is.”
“Please wait here for a moment, Prince Tom. I won’t be long.” Raya hopped up from her seat and took off toward the inn.
I sighed and leaned back on the bench. I had put my hand in my pocket and pulled out my compact phone. I opened it up to see if I had any missed messages or calls. Still nothing. It’s been almost five days now. Did Star even care what I was doing, or where I went, or who I was with? I was so tempted to call her. I want to know what she is doing. I want to know where she went. I want to know who she was with. But I think I already knew the answers to all those questions. Ugh. I should just call her and apologize, maybe it isn’t too late and we can get over this… Or do I just want to keep hurting myself by even continuing this…
I was about to punch in Star’s contact when Raya returned. I shoved my phone back into my pocket and stood up from the bench.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Prince Tom.” Raya huffed trying to catch her breath.
“What happened, why’d you run off?” I asked.
“Here.” Raya said as she gave me a folded up piece of paper.
I opened it up to see coordinates written down.
“Rochelle looked it up for me, would your portal be able to take us there?” Raya asked eagerly.
“Sure, but why--”
“Please?” Raya insisted. What could it hurt? If Raya wanted to show me something, it couldn’t be all that bad.
And without another word, we went through my flaming portal to a destination unknown to me.
A cascade of fire shot up from the ground and out we walked to a breathtaking sight.
An endless sea of golden sand stretched out behind us as we stood on a small mound of it. What should've been an ocean, filled with water, instead resembled the universe in all of its spectacular glory. A plethora of vibrant red gases were blotched against the dark abyss of the duplicated space while shooting stars skidded by like tadpoles. It was as if we were standing at the edge of the world looking out across the glistening galaxy. And suddenly it happened. The sky was cast in brilliant gradients of oranges, pinks, blues, and purples as what could’ve been a thousand suns were setting in the sky sporadically. One by one, they went down in the realm like a domino effect, but never ceasing. It was a land of infinite sunsets.
I had been holding my breath during such wonder, but I finally felt myself gasp ,“Whoa! This is amazing! I’ve never seen anything like it!”
“... Yea… Me neither…” Raya looked just as awestruck as I did.
“You’ve never been here before too?”
Raya brought her gaze to me. I could see the sunbeams reflecting in her yellow eyes and I had to admit the sparkling it created in them while in symphony with the rays outlining her body was rather ethereal. She smiled contently and said, “This is my first time coming here. Rochelle loves watching sunsets, and I usually sit out with her watching them while at her shop… She has been to this dimension before with my aunt a long time ago. We never really get a chance to travel because we can’t freely use portals, but when she told me of this place, I always wanted to see it for myself one day.” Raya was now staring back out across the canvas of cosmic colors. “... Something so beautiful yet simple as a sunset is taken for granted. Tomorrow is never promised, but the sunset gives you hope that the sun will rise again...”
“That’s… kind of deep…” I finally diverted my eyes from her and back at the galactic beach scene as well. Looking out over the horizon as the suns would continuously set, I began to realize something from what Raya meant.
I don’t want to be lied to, and I don’t want to lie to myself any longer either. I don’t want explanations or excuses. I want closure. I’m avoiding it in every way possible. I pretended to be oblivious to all of the signs--Song Day, the photo booth at the wedding, thinking the Severing Stone would solve a nonexistent curse. I didn’t want to pressure Star because I thought she would want to immediately end our relationship instead of dealing with the stress of her own divided feelings. Neither of us want to admit what we need to do or what is best for the both of us because we love each other so much that we don’t want to hurt each other. But just because it hurts now, doesn’t mean it will always be that way. There are all kinds of love out there. I love my Mom, my Dad, my friends. Marco. And I truly love Star. We’ve had something not many people get to experience, and no matter if it is long-term, short-term, on-again-off-again, or even just friends, the memories will always be special. She will always be my friend no matter where our paths lead. The sun may set today but there will always be a new day awaiting me. And I value both Star and Marco so much that I want to continue being with them both well into the years to come. Should it be as friends, well that is good enough for me.
Without warning, a loud shriek startled me from my thoughts.
“Kyyyaaaaah!!” Raya was purposefully screaming.
I glanced around as if for a sign of danger but I didn’t find any. I asked her, “What-W-What are you doing?”
“Come on, try it too, Prince Tom.” She had a mischievous smirk aimed my way.
“Try what exactly?”
“Let it all out.” She explained.
I guess it couldn’t hurt. So we both began to yell.
“Gyyyyyyaaaahhh!!!”
“Kyyyyaaaahhhh!!!”
Upon ending our noisefest, both of us broke out in a fit of laughter. The adrenaline that had been building within me had flushed out from its rampaging climax to now a slow trickle—just like Old Fearful. Was that really all I needed? No, it was just part of it. I understood what she was showing me now. I have kept so much of my feelings bottled up inside, believing for a while now that it was wrong to let them loose. I need to come to terms with who I am and make sure others respect not just me but my feelings also. Because being afraid of letting out how I feel is what got me into my situation with Star in the first place.
“... You--just seemed--like you really--n-needed to let it--all out.” She caught her breath in between bouts of giggles.
“Yea… You’re right.” I came to the realization with a grin across my face as I confided in her, “I used to have a problem with my anger and didn’t really have the best way to cope with it.” I cast my eyes down to the side, now fixated on the sand of the shore. “I’ve been treated as if letting my anger out wasn’t something I was suppose to do if I wanted to keep my friends.” I looked at her and continued. “But I understand now that friends should be more concerned with helping me with what’s bothering me instead of just avoiding the problem. They should want to help me better myself and resolve our differences.” I saw her smile back at me as if in tune with my decision. “So, thanks, Raya, for this… For today…All of it.”
“Of course, Prince Tom.” Raya looked back at the setting suns.
“Hey…” I began rubbing the back of my neck. “Do you think you could just call me Tom? We’re friends and all…”
I knew how her upbringing was and I knew she would object. But it couldn’t hurt to ask. I was just tired of formal titles right now. I just wanted to be treated like everyone else, well to a point I suppose. But in this moment and after today, it just felt right to drop the formalities.
I didn’t get the disapproval I expected from her. As she continued to take in the universe in the sea, she blushed and softly said . “Alright… Tom.”
We walked through my flaming portal and back out to the entrance of Yomi Town. The shops had all closed and the people had gone home with the lights inside their residences all glittering in the darkness. The torch of the lamp post at the gateway entrance flickered dimly on us as we stood there facing each other. I could see my carriage positioned outside the gate and my skeleton horse snoozing away.
We had stayed in the sunset dimension for a good bit of time, just hanging out and playing in the water and sand. We didn’t want to be gone for too long to cause Raya’s family to worry. Especially her father. I may be a prince but he is still a parent. I could already picture Albion and his intimidating glare…
“Well, I guess I better get going.” I said rubbing the back of my head. Part of me didn’t want to leave but I knew it was time for me to confront the truth I had been avoiding.
“I’m glad you were able to enjoy your time here in Yomi Town… Tom.” Raya blushed a little when she said my name without the honorific. She was holding her hands to her chest again and looking at the ground. I wonder if she enjoyed herself today as much as I did as well.
“Well thanks to you and your family, I did. Hope I wasn’t the only one who had fun though.” I chuckled and waited for her reply.
“Um… I had fun too.” She mumbled as she twiddled her fingers together.
I wonder why now all of a sudden it was so awkward for her. Surely she knows that I have to go. And at least this time I can properly say goodbye to her. Maybe she didn’t want me to go?
But it was time. It was hard saying goodbye, and not just to her. I needed to address that goodbye with another person too. It was time to truly set her free. So I began to slowly turn away as I said, “Well, I better get going. Thanks again Raya.”
I hesitantly waited in hopes for her to say goodbye, but she didn’t. She was still gazing at the ground, fidgeting with her hands. I sighed, a little let down, and started walking toward the exit.
“...Tom!” She called after me.
I stopped in my tracks and turned back to her, I internally smiled. “Yea?”
She closed the space between us and held out her hand. I instinctively brought my own hand forward and let her put whatever she wanted to give me in it. It was the necklace we made from the temple!
“I think you should have this… I mean… I want you to have this. As a souvenir from your time here. And as a symbol of our friendship.” She was still not meeting my eyes while her cheeks remained as red as her hair.
“Oh, thank you!” I said with glee as I placed it around my neck. This will be a great memory of my time here for sure. And a great memory of her as well. To think she even thought to get me, one of her friends, a gift now too.
She finally looked up at me with an expression I hadn’t seen from her before. Her eyes seemed to be searching for some form of validation from my own. It seemed like she wanted to say something else but instead she said, “I hope you’re able to work out everything with your girlfriend and get your happiness back.”
I wanted to say something else too, but instead I said, “Thanks, I know I will be able to now.” And I stepped away from her.
“Bye, Tom. Have a safe trip back.”
“See-ya, Raya.” I gave her a half-smile and used the goodbye that was a play on her name that I had said to her back when we first met.
She returned my smile with one of her own and began to run off, back to the inn and her family, back to her normal life. I wondered why she was hesitant to give this gift to me. I wondered why that even though she said it with a smile, it was the first time it looked like there was some pain behind it. I began to walk off, back to my carriage and back to my kingdom, back to being a prince.
I flopped down in my throne chair, a little exhausted from the day I just had. As my skeleton horse began to pull the carriage through the mountain pass and further away from Yomi Town, I started thinking about Star. I know what I have to do now. And it will be the hardest decision I have ever had to make.
And with that, I reached in my pocket and pulled out my compact phone. I punched in the contact and waited for it to connect.
“Hey Star, can we meet up tomorrow?” I asked her and she excitedly accepted. We didn’t talk long because she wanted to get back to playing with Marco’s new little sister...
I sat quietly at my throne during the long ride home, not noticing that I had been clutching the necklace Raya gave me the entire time as I thought about tomorrow.

Bats What I Like About You - Part 3
The story: During a camping trip, Poppy tells a campfire story about a magic wish-granting tree which is believed to exist in the Troll world. However, Branch doesn’t believe in the story and says that magic wish-granting trees don’t exist. His disbelief gets the better of him when he finds the tree and before he knows what is going on with it, it casts a spell on Branch, causing him to transform into a vampire bat and believe that the tree does exist! Now stuck as a bat, he has to try to get himself back to normal with the help of a bat named Feng, who tags along with him for the rest of the adventure.
You already seen what had happened in Part 2. Now get ready for Part 3!:
Branch staggered towards to the white tree as his wings make it harder for him to walk. Soon a realization had hit him like a bullet!
“Oh my god! I found the Great Wishing Tree!” he exclaimed in amazement. “Just like in Poppy’s campfire tale! I wonder if it can wish myself back into a Troll!”
He went closer to the tree and began to clear his throat and speak to it “Hello? Hey, excuse me, Miss Wishing Tree? My name is Branch and why am I transformed into a bat? Will you change me back, please?”
Branch looked up at the tree with pleading eyes. But at this point, the tree didn’t respond. He tried again firmly, waving his wings. “Hello?! Great Tree?! GREAT TREE?! Change me back right now! I can’t stay like this forever!”
Once again, the tree never respond. Branch could see that the tree’s beautiful lady-like face was completely gone! But why the Great Wishing Tree was missing her own face unlike in Poppy’s story about it?!
Huh? Could it be fake? he thought in disbelief. I must be dreaming again!
“Great Tree?!” Branch yelled even louder. But once more, the tree did not speak. “What the hell is going on?! This is just happening already! I gotta tell Poppy about this!”
Then he started walking, but it seems like it was an even slower walk as opposed to a Troll walking. While walking through the woods for hours, Branch thought about the white tree he had encountered just now. Could it really be that same tree that makes wishes on Trolls like in that story? He simply needed to know about that for a minute.
Branch was walking and walking like a wobbly unsteady animal along the path of the woods. What a dear little bat, with his woffly little hair and long, thin fangs in his mouth and fine-looking wings! An owl didn’t see him or he would have pounced on him at once. The bat wasn’t about that night or he would have had him for dinner.
“Ugh,” Branch grumbled to himself, folding his arm-like wings like he usually did as a Troll. “That tree seemed just like that one from Poppy’s story she told us that evening! I wonder if it really did cast a spell on me just now...”
“Oh, I think it did! I think I’ve accidentally made a wish in front of it while I was trying to get my firewood back from that nasty bat! Why did I say that?!” Branch cried, putting his claw over his head and shaking it with dismay. Suddenly, before he can try to know about his mistake, something rustled in the trees behind him. But Branch didn’t know that. At the same time, his nose is twitching, just like a bat’s nose. It was a bat’s nose, he reminded himself.
Branch could sniff a little breeze of an unspecific-looking air. He could smell TROLL but he didn’t know what it was, so he wasn’t afraid. He could smell fruit too and that made his nose twitch more than ever. Then his stomach grumbled, meaning that he was hungry now. Suddenly, he hears a loud shrill voice behind him!
“Hey! Found a bat! Gotta add this one to my list!”
Frightened, Branch turned around and gave a loud squeak!
“Eeeeeeeeeeep!!!”
It was a Troll farmer and he was on duty capturing many different types of nocturnal animals of the wild!
In a panic, Branch tried to run and he tripped over his wings again. Panting, he began crawling along in the ground as the farmer’s shadow loomed over him. Then the farmer used his hand to snatch Branch by his claw-like legs!
“GOTCHA!!!”
“Eeeeeeeep!!! Eeeeeeep!!! Eeeeeep! Eeeeeeep!! Eeeeeeep!! Eeeep! EEEEEEEPPPP!!! Eeeeeeep!!” Branch squeaked with utter fright as the farmer grabbed him by his legs! He struggled to get free, but the farmer’s grip was too tight!
“Come on!” the farmer said. “Settle down!”
But Branch was unable to keep quiet, going completely berserk. “Eeeeeeeep!! Eeeeeeep!! Eeeeeeeep!! Eeeeeeeep!! Eeeeeep! Eeeeeeeep!!” he squeaked and squeaked.
He wriggled, but he couldn’t get away! The farmer held him tightly, and he felt Troll fingers sticking into him as soon as he moved. He was terribly afraid! Was this TROLL?!
In his Troll voice, Branch was yelling “Agh! Let me go! Put me down! LET GO OF ME, SIR!!! What are you doing to me?!”
The farmer was ignoring him as he observed him very carefully and said “You look...perfect! I’m going to sell you to Professor Stade!”
Branch was outraged. “What?! You can’t sell me!! You have no right to do that! Let me go!”
But the Troll farmer can instead only hear him squeaking like an actual bat. “Eeeeeeeep!! Eeeeeeep! Eeeeeep! Eeeeeeep!! Eeeeeep!! Eeeeep!!! Eeeeeeep!!!”
Branch squeaked again as he squirmed and squirmed to escape the farmer’s grip on him. He was not hurt, because that Troll hadn’t scratched or eaten him. No - he wanted to take him, whole and unhurt, to a nocturnal animal professor.
By the time the farmer took Branch to a table in the middle of the woods, he threw him into a silver cage and locked him in. Branch watched helplessly as he glared at him closely and said “You stay here! I’ll be right back!”
With that, he walked away, pulling out his phone to contact Professor Stade.
After the farmer left, Branch looked around the cage he was now trapped in. He was frightened now. He didn’t like to become a bat. He wanted to get back to the camp with Poppy, Biggie, Smidge and Guy Diamond. But he knew he would never, never find the way. He was also shaking and freaking out. Then he tried using his sharp fangs to undo the latch on the cage.
Finally, after much trying, his bat fangs wouldn’t do any damage to the lock! Exhausted, he collapsed to the ground, out of breath.
Then he smacked his forehead. What was I thinking?! he thought desperately. I had to escape!
He grabbed on to the bars and yelled
“HELP!!! GET ME OUT OF HERE!!! POPPY, GUYS!!! SAVE ME!!! HELP ME!!!”
But no one answered. Branch banged his head on the bars in defeat and sighed.
Then he began to sing sadly, loud and clear in his angelic-like voice:
🎶 I feel my wings have broken in your hands I feel the words unspoken inside And they pull you under And I would give you anything you want, know You were all I wanted And all my dreams are falling down Crawling around 🎶
🎶 Somebody save me Let your warm hands break right through and Save me I don't care how you do it Just stay, stay Oh come on I've been waiting for you 🎶
🎶 I see the world has folded in your heart I feel the waves crash down inside And they pulled me under I would give you anything you want, know You were all I wanted And all my dreams have fallen down Crawling around 🎶
🎶 Somebody save me Let your warm hands break right through Somebody save me I don't care how you do it Just stay, stay Come on I've been waiting for you 🎶
🎶 Crawling around 🎶
🎶 Somebody save me Let your warm hands break right through Somebody save me I don't care how you do it Just save me I made this whole world shine for you Just stay, stay Come on I'm still waiting for you 🎶
When he finished singing his song, a tear rolled down his cheek as he whispered “Poppy, please save me...”
All of the sudden, something rustled behind some trees!
Eeeeeeeeeepp!!
Branch jumped back in shock when he heard the high-pitched bat squeak again in his ears. He cowered and covered himself with his wings just as a shadow of a bat flew past far from his cage!
SWOOOPP!!
Branch turned around to see the shadow. He was very afraid than ever.
“W-who’s there?!” he whimpered. “Hello?! Anybody there?! Poppy?!”
To Be Continued...
Stay tuned for Part 4!
Note 1: For the part where Branch is sadly singing in the cage, I used the song “Save Me” by Remy Zero from Smallville in order to fit into his song. But pls enjoy that part where Branch sings here! 😄😄😄

Tales of Vesperia [Spoiler Free] Review
XXXX: “So… who’s gonna be my second?” [pause] Yuri: “…It would be my honor.” XXXX: “Guess yer stuck doin’ a job nobody much wants.” Yuri: “You too.” XXXX: “Heh. No kidding. Yuri. I was lookin’ forward to watchin’ ya go places. I’ll make sure to save you a spot in hell.” Yuri: “I don’t think they’d let me into the hell you’re going to.” XXXX: “Hah. I won’t forget that attitude, boy.”
-Yuri, the main protagonist of Tales of Vesperia (other name censored to avoid spoilers).
If you’re a fan of RPGs you should play Tales of Vesperia and with the Definitive Edition now available for order on Switch, XBone, PC, and PS4 (with remastered graphics and ALL the bonus content) there’s never been a better time to play than now.
The unique thing about this RPG is the exceptional quality. Aside from being one of the best titles of the titular “Tales of” series and therefore one of the best titles of the one of the most popular RPG series in Japan, it manages to break from a large number of entrenched RPG stereotypes with characters and a story that are still refreshing today, 10 years after its initial release.
People like RPGs for various reasons, but if you like RPGs for ANY reason, this game is for you. If you enjoy the:
Characters
A badass with a good heart.
Tales of Vesperia sports an unusual cast. The main protagonist is a disillusioned thief who’s savage burns cut as sharp as his sword.
But there’s so much more to the character!
This dog has seen some things.
Right from the get-go, we see him paired up with his faithful, knife-wielding dog companion. It’s hot in the slums where they live and the water has gone out.
You instantly build up a love for the character’s relationship with his dog and the people of the slum as he ventures into the unfriendly upper areas of the city to retrieve (steal back) the missing part they need to restore running water to the slum.
What sets him truly apart from most RPG protagonists is that he fundamentally wants to be a good guy and do the right thing. No matter how jaded he becomes, his better nature shines through. This conflict between the reality of his world and his desire to do good leads him to make some tough decisions and makes the character memorable and believable.
At times you want to root for him, at times you want him to see a little bit of light, for something good to happen to him and for everything to turn out alright.
Throughout the course of the game, you’ll discover his backstory, how he came to be so jaded, and you’ll watch his character grow as he witnesses the consequences of his own choices.
Pink and innocent.
Keeping him in check along the way is Estelle, a naive and good-hearted princess. Their dialog is magnificently written with Yuri’s palpable jade countered by Estelle’s undefeatable optimism.
She gets a lot of jokes played on her throughout by various members of the cast, but it’s all in good fun and you get to see her really grow and develop from a two-dimensional rich, naive princess into a true world-traveler with a more enlightened perspective.
You’ll meet an intriguing cast of characters, each with their own goals and perspective and you’ll watch each of them grow on their journey to save the world. Even some of the villains are incredibly well-written.
Dialog
If you like humorous dialog, or dialog that is just well written, then this game is for you. Here are just a few out-takes from the game:
Skit (Estelle and Repeede)
Estelle: Hey, why is he letting Judith pet him?
Raven: Maybe the little pup’s a fan of pretty girls.
Estelle: B-But I’m a pretty girl too! [Repede moves away from Estelle as she moves towards him.]
Judith: My, my.
Estelle: Why doesn’t he like me?
Skit (Yuri can cook)
Karol: Yuri’s croquettes are the BEST!
Rita: How strange…They’re just balls of mashed potatoes, but..
Judith: There must be a secret ingredient
Raven: Oh yeah? What’d you put in it Yuri?
Yuri; Love
Rita; Agh..*Hack* *hack* Ick, blech!
Karol: Wh-who are you and what did you do with yuri…?
Raven: My hearin isn’t what it used to be. What’d you say was the secret ingredient?
Yuri: Love! The lady who ran the inn I lived at always said cooking was all about love. I put as much love in them as I could. So eat them with care, okay?
Karol: Yuri’s loved filled croquettes….
Rita: Ugh
Raven: I wish they weren’t so good.
Judith: A secret ingredient is a cook’s greatest treasure. You did not want to tell them did you?
Yuri: Actually I didn’t put anything special in there at all.
Skit (We know what Raven likes)
Estelle: This figurine is lovely!Yuri: A figurine? Id say its more of a toy, really.
Karol: You must not of seen many things like this in the castle , Estelle.
Estelle: Id like to see more of these figurines.
Yuri: and thus a figurine collector is born.
Judith: Oh some people are just more interested in aesthetics than others Yuri. Its not all that unusual.
Rita: Yeah, I really don’t have any other inrests outside of blastiea.
Karol: ive always been a fan of cool guild emblems myself.
Estelle: What about you Yuri.
Yuri: Huh? Ive never really given much thought to artistic sorts of things. I never really looked at anything in art.
Raven: ask me, ask me! Ask me what I like
All: girls
Raven:…Th…that’s right….
Rita: We know that’s right.
All of this optional dialog that brings out the personality of the characters, reveals their self-conscious tendencies, their likes, and even surprises you wouldn’t have known.
I’ve chosen this dialog to avoid spoilers for anyone who has not played game, but it goes without saying that the best moments of the game are tied closely with developments in the plot. Even as they face down a great threat to their world, the characters are always growing and learning about each other.
By the end of the game, you really feel like you know all the characters and the dynamics of relationships well. It feels like playing a game where your friends are the main characters.
Gameplay
The gameplay is on-point for Tales of Vesperia. The controls are easy to learn and the party dynamics are easy to change.
What I like about the Tales Of series is that their combat is always energetic and involved: you control a character and move them around the battle while using special moves, attacking, or casting spells. You can even switch between characters if there’s one you really like playing or you need to control directly.
Trying out different party combinations is rewarding for the in-combat dialog alone, but your characters will also deepen their bond as they fight alongside each other, potentially unlocking more side quests and dialog options so can really get to know your favorite characters.
Inventory management is also pretty trivial. I recognize that a LOT of modern RPGs make this aspect kind of a pain, especially with resource gathering and item forging mechanics, but (fortunately) Tales of Vesperia ins’t bad about it! The only place where it gets kind of hairy is with weapons: always keep at least one of each weapon, you never know when you’ll need it again.
You can quest for better items or get them from enemies, but it never feels like a grind and you’re never waiting for that one drop with a 1/50 chance that hasn’t dropped in the 150 times you’re been farming this one monster. Instead the emphasis is always on the developing the story, the characters, and the world and even the item side-quests reflect that.
Summary
Each quest will deepen your experience of the world, characters, or the story while enough humor is seamlessly blended in to make it feel light-hearted between touching moments of deep emotion and characterization.
The characters are well-written, their development and interaction makes each of the main cast, and some of the villains, feel real and alive. Throughout the game it’s a true joy to feel their relationships change and develop as the characters learn about each other and overcome their own pasts.
The world is interesting and unique and you really get a feel for each region and city with it’s own ‘personality’.
The gameplay is fluid, easy, and energetic with very little inventory-management non-sense to bog down the game.
This game deserves a 5 out of 5.
If you like RPGs at all, for any reason, you owe it to yourself to give Tales of Vesperia a try. With the updated graphics and content of the Definitive Edition, there’s never been a better time to play.

I wonder if a certain Nesta sees. -Cassian trying to be chill around Nesta is my new aesthetic. -Nesta reads romance. Hell Yes. -"You come between a male and his mate, Nesta Archeron, and you're going to learn about the consequences the hard way." Trying to foreshadow something there Cassian? I Ship. -No is mentioning the sorrow and longing in Cassian eyes, Feyre, for the same reason no one mentioned it when Rhys looked at you all those months ago. -Reading about Elaine is painful. -I'm relating to Elaine and all those open curtains too much... shit. -Cassian you're to precious. -I missed the Amren/Cassian banter so much. -Shit Mor is getting pissed. -Feyre keeps calling Rhys mate and I'm feeling bad for the Australian readers. -"Because I can't stay away" well Fuck me if they ain't mates. -Nesta looking as Cassian like he's the only one in the room. -Damn right there was a reason Lucian wore a fox mask. -Idk what to write but the nessian at pg.203. gahhhhhhh. -"Surely Nesta wasn't anything he couldn't handle," omfg Feyre, it's hilarious of you to think that. -Feyre were you not there for Acomaf. He was very clearly, cocky then. -Library sex? I'm in. -oh, so no library sex. -To the Bone Carver we go. Az be carrying his ship. -Poor Cassian. Nesta will come around, I promise, I read the spoiler. -YES AZRIEL SHOW HER THE GARDEN. I'VE READ THIS SPOILER PAGE SO MUCH AND NOW IT'S MINE. -You know, I wrote a fanfiction about Az and Elaine in a garden and her calling his scars pretty. They kissed in it. -"Azriel isn't the ravishing type," Rhys you should read the fanfic I wrote about him. He loves to ravish. -omg Cassian calming Nesta- ugh how many more pages until this kiss? -Az, sunning your wings for Elaine? How scandalous. -"Why not make them mates?" Feyre babe I'm asking the same question. -FEYRE YOU SHIP ELRIEL TOO? Oh sweetie I love you more than Cassian rn. -Rhysand, let Feyre play matchmaker. -I was about to bash Kier for insulting Az, but Az got this shit. -Oh not this fucking Eris bitch again. -Rhys the Fuck you playing at? -Okay, ngl I know Mor is gay but those Eris know? Ffs. -Okay everyone is fighting and I'm more intrigued than I should be. -D'as Nessian. -Double d'aw Elriel. -Pg.303 and back to sassy Az. -Sassy Az KS giving me life. -It was at page 306 that I realised I was in love with Az. -Nephelle's be giving me goosebumps. -Yes bathtub scent with Rhys. -Oh it's actually a massage scene? I'm in. -Feyre are you trying to start a war? Cassian flying with Nesta. Dammit who am I kidding I wanna see that. -Yes Az, help Elaine in the garden. I am sailing this ship. -Nesta watching Cassian lick his fingers and I'm like, now imagine that kissing elsewhere. -Nes? I ship. -Some shit happening in the library. -ohhhh so we finally reached the part where people wonder if Elaine is a seer. -Yes Feyre, put Elaine's riddles together. -Okay that scene was intense but Nessian at the end was calming. -"Amren on the hunt," a novel by sjm. -Damn Az, took you awhile but bravo, she's a seer. God it couldn't be any easier to love you. -Lucian I swear to God if you die, looking for this sixth queen, I will kill you. -Also where is my Suriel. -Shit Alis don't die. -oh FFS, look, "king" of Hybren, old buddy. If you'd kindly fuck off. Only it's late, I don't need these plot twists. -Look, "King," I'd pay good money to see you try and take Feyre. -Rhys if you could destroy my upcoming exams the way you did those ships, I'd be grateful. -pg.379, more smut, hell yes. -pg.381, Nesta all concerned. -The amount of sex feysand are having. That wingspan must be truly impress you Feyre darling. -So Cassian is terrible at complements. -Ah yes boys, bringing up that wingspan again. -This Nessian tho. -"she threatened to freeze my balls off," Kallias, Viviane, welcome to my heart. -I'm in love with Viviane. -God sake, Tamlin Fuck off. -Tamlin, let me tell you, Rhys and Feyre have fucked so much I'm sure he could recount every noise she is capable of making. -Fucking shut up Tamlin. -Eris if you'd kindly shut the Fuck up too, it'd be a pleasure. -Pg.438, Nesta, damn, *blows kisses.* -nvm of 439, Go Feyre. Slay. -Helion.... wait... look I can't go around loving all these people. It makes me look like I have a heart. -You know I'd be surprised at Lucian being a whole, some air of dawn court, but I already read that spoiler. -Okay mor is gay why is- you know what, never mind, I give up. -Oh. Oh Fuck. -lol, I'm so tired, whenever I hear the wall mentioned all I can think of is humpty dumpty. -"Don't even start," Nesta, sweetie, we've been shipping this since the last book. -Part three here I come. -btw this is still the same day for me. I've read up to part three in a few hours. It's two in the morning. Never underestimate a fangirl deprived of her smut. -Jurian just has to show up, doesn't he. -idk who I am to believe anymore. -I wanna say Fuck this shit I'm out. But I am so in. -So am I meant to trust Jurian or not. -Damn Tarquin. -Nessian will kill me quicker than these plot twists. -Ayyy more shut, god I love you Sarah. -Yes, the Suriel is coming into play bitches. I'd been surprised by what happens only I've seen this spoiler too. -Okay first thing first, Ianthe please Fuck off Secondly rip Suriel 2K17. -Cassian what happened. Nesta please. I know the ending and shit but tf happened. -Feyre be joining up these dots about which way Mor floats. -This, Varian, Amren thing, yeah I'd like another five books of it. -Awww, Az, you're to sweet and selfless. -I'm so tired IDK how to feel anymore. -Oh greatttt, Feyre got hit with an arrow. Any more plot twists. -Wait Tamlin? Fuck, ugh. -d'aw, Elaine kissed his cheek. -it's four in the morning. It's all so heart wrenching and shit. -Wait is she flying over Velaris in her lingerie. -Fuck it's half five in the morning. I read this book in under 24 hours. I need to sleep. *hours later* -omfg I need to read this shit again. It was so good. The High Lords, the banter, the near death experiences. The romance. The sass. Sarah you queen. -if the at least the novellas don't have nessian or Elriel tho I may be tempted to cry. And that, my friends, is a snippet of the roller coaster if thoughts and emotions I went through. I was too tired to cry during it but my heart was successfully ripped out a few times.

C: Very unfavourable Heaven’s army with Sitri as their vanguard have crossed the river Styx They’ve invaded Hades’ territory J: Baalberith’s nephew being weak is in no way accurate He’s having a succession of victories; he’s already defeated General Orobas and Zagan At this rate, he’ll clash with Baalberith’s main force W: Sitri and Baalberith!? Why has a demon so suddenly become an angel in the first place! K: Angels and demons born in the original era are essentially of the same essence Sitri was probably forcefully brought to Hell without having fallen
12 C: His power was sealed with Baalberith’s magic But that’s no longer effective J: So it means that the old man’s magic is dropping [Baalberith is also close to sleep] W: I’ll definitely stop it! [There’s been no contact from Dantalion either That’s strange… Has something happened?]

22 B: To think that both of us would become your kin But I’m grateful to you S: With this, you probably won’t have to kill each other There won't be pursuers from Heaven either However
23 B: I can’t go to sleep S: That’s right If your power weakens, the fact that Sitri has not fallen will be revealed to Hell The two of you should sleep in the pillars while you can B: If I die- The time to let go will come that
24 I’m content with just watching Even if it’s weak like a doll W: (I see… That’s why Baalberith became the last of the 72 Pillars) (N/ Baalberith (Berith) is actually the 28th demon in the Lesser Key of Solomon; the 72nd demon is Andromalius) This is

26 I hope I have managed to do something for you W: (Everyone’s been sealed in the pillars?) S: I was born here long ago and was asked by God if there was anything I wanted And so I replied O God, please grant me the power to distinguish between good and evil
27 So that I may become a great king! To know of good and evil, is to separate this world into good and evil… What is not evil also becomes evil when next to good According to the Divine Law W: (Divine Law…) S: I have seen plenty Loved ones being judged as incorrect by God That brought only agony
28 Why… didn’t I wish for something else back then-! SFX bite SFX spill W: !
29 S: If God is telling me what is good and evil, then I will support evil I myself will become evil So that God will abandon me and destroy me
30 “May my wish be granted by evil“ [The other demons of the 72 Pillars will finally awaken!?]
Translation Note - ‘Foraii’
The author has chosen to use the spelling ‘Forfax’ for the 21st demon, otherwise known as Morax or Marax. The spelling ‘Forfax’ is not widely used in English (try Google, you won’t find it) – the equivalent in English would be ‘Farax’, but is also not widely used. The spellings I usually use (unless another name is explicitly written by the author in Japanese) are from Mathers’ translation of The Lesser Key of Solomon – hence ‘Sitri’ rather than ‘Sytry’ (but ‘Ronwe’ rather than ‘Ronové’), etc. In this case, since ‘Forfax’ is non-existent in English, I would have used the spelling ‘Marax’. However, Marax is also a drug for asthma treatment, so the internet presence of ‘Morax’ seems to be stronger. Therefore, I was hesitant on either. Eventually, I decided on using ‘Foraii’ – this is an accepted spelling in both English and Japanese, and is also closer to the author’s original name choice.
More stuff from Solomon’s past is being revealed! Samael is up to something...
This chapter took a long time to translate. Sorry for the wait! It is exam season so I am officially pressed for time. The next chapter won’t take that long once it’s out. I promise! ^^
Please feel free to point out any mistakes.

LONG AGO, TWO RACES RULED OVER THE EARTH: HUMANS AND MONSTERS
> …
ONE DAY, WAR BROKE OUT BETWEEN THE TWO RACES
> ….wuh? Wha, wha’s-
AFTER A LONG BATTLE, THE HUMANS WERE VICTORIOUS
> Oh GOD, MY HEAD, AGH
THEY SEALED THE MONSTERS UNDERGROUND WITH A MAGIC SPELL
> Actually OH GOD MY EVERYTHING WHAT HAPPENED
MANY YEARS LATER…
> AAAGGHHhhh…
MT. EBOTT, 201X
> …what is all this…?
LEGENDS SAY THAT THOSE WHO CLIMB THE MOUNTAIN NEVER RETURN…
> Oh yeah, this is where I tripped…
[Also replace the human child with a scruffy lanky monster (maybe even his silhouette) tripping BACKWARDS, BOUNCING off all the sides of the ruins, before landing unceremoniously on his neck, sprawled like a spider on its back]
[Pan up as usual]
///UNDERTALE///
The monster slowly repositions himself in an upright position, rubbing every sore area of his body. He opens his eyes and sees that he is currently sitting inside a golden flowerbed. He slowly, painfully, looks up and sees that the pit he fell in was concaving like a slightly domed ceiling, the hole leading to the outside high above him, and that the highest surrounding structures, doric columns by the looks of them, could not even remotely reach it.
“Welp, like hell I be gettin’ back out da same way in no time…” The monster chuckled resignedly.
How could he not? The hole was completely out of reach; he had no means to scale the walls reliably with, and he was not keen on attempting to jump, lest the next fall he takes was not a lucky one where he could walk away.
The monster looks around, pondering about how he would get out of this current predicament when he spots a pathway. He gets up, lumbering toward the pathway. Just sitting there wasn’t gonna do much, anyhow.
He comes upon a doorway, with an insignia embroidered on the top. For some reason, the monster could not help feeling slightly intimidated; as if there was something great and terrible waiting beyond this door.
* Daunted, but still determined…
The monster walked through.
The door revealed a black, empty antechamber, with a similar kind of door at the opposite end. That daunting feeling still hovered over the monster; something did not feel right.
Wait, the antechamber wasn’t empty. There was a patch of light in the center, revealing a mound of grass. Sitting atop that mound was a single flower with a smiling face in the center of its carpel, surrounded by six golden petals.
The monster trepidatiously stepped towards the door; there weren’t any good vibes coming from thi-
“Howdy! I’m FLOWEY! FLOWEY the FLOWER!”
“JEEZUZ-CRIMINEY, WHAT-”
The monster jumped a foot in the air. The flower was talking! That face wasn’t for show; this thing was alive!
“Haha! I’ve never seen anyone like you before! You must be new the UNDERGROUND, huh?”
The monster stared, mouth agape. He saw alot of strange things in his lifetime, but this? There was something he couldn’t shake his mind off of.
“Golly, you look so confused. Maybe someone oughta teach you how things work around here! I guess little old me will have to do.”
“…w-wait, now hold up a sec-”
The monster had finally found his voice only to be interrupted by Flowey’s eagerness.
“Ready? Here we go!”
The monster soon found himself facing the flower. Suddenly, a heart-shaped phantasm glowed brilliantly within him, as the monster looked down in surprise.
He recognized this situation immediately.
“See that there?” Flowey piped up. “That is your SOUL. The ve-”
The flower gave a split-second pause as he looked at the monster. He quickly regained composure and continued on.
“…the very culmination of your being!
"Wowee, look at that! Your SOUL’s amazing; it’s got LV a-plenty!” The flower’s voice was one step away from a squee.
“…LV?” The monster asked.
“Aw, comeon now, silly! You knoooow……LOVE! And surely, that SOUL looks like it could always get a little more LOVE from little ol’ me! Comeon, let me share some!”
Flowey winked with what the monster could only interpret as mischief. The flower then conjured up white pellets around him.
“Down here, we share our LV through…little white…
”…‘friendliness pellets!’“ Flowey explained with a gleam in his eye.
"Are you ready?” Flowey called out. “Comeon, grab as many as you can!” The pellets slowly drifted towards the monster.
The monster flailed about, but stumbled clumsily, falling on his face, missing the friendliness pellets by a margin.
“…Hey buddy, you missed them.” Flowey admonished, while still smiling, his brows creased, somewhat vexxed.
“…ya’ll have to forgive me, I’m really REALLY sore from falling down here, still.” The monster sheepishly replied.
“Oh, then don’t worry; we can try again!” Flowey’s face brightened back up with anticipation.
“That’s…that’s ver’ generous o’ ya, l'il flower…”
Again, Flowey conjured up the pellets, and sent them in the monster’s direction. The monster wobbled feebly, and even though he swung about wildly, completely missed the pellets again, falling flat on his back.
Flowey’s look of annoyance returned, slightly crosser.
“…you have to be kidding me. Is this a joke? Are you braindead?
"RUN. INTO. THE. BULLE-riendliness pellets!” Flowey had started tirading, but caught himself and regained composure, trying to return to his initial demeanor.
“Tell ya what, why don'tcha fling 'em while I’m here? I might get 'em more easily now.” The monster responded begrudgingly.
Once more, the pellets were conjured and flung towards the monster. The monster, not even getting up, reprised with flailing his limbs about, slightly rolling his body in an attempt to grab all the friendliness pellets this time.
He missed every single one of them.
The flower’s face transformed from vexation into a horrifying visage.
“YOU KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON HERE, DON’T YOU?” Flowey’s cheerful voice had transformed into a gravelly growl
The monster was getting back up, glaring back up with his left eye.
“You said it yourself, I musta had a high LV. Wit’ dat, I woulda probably known a thing or two.”
“THEN YOU JUST WANTED TO SEE ME SUFFER!?”
“I gon’ be honest, I wasna completely sure meself what you was doing, I 'ad to be sure.”
“WELL THEN, IF YOU AREN’T GOING TO BE ANY FUN,”
“Friendliness pellets” spontaneously conjured up all around the monster, hitting him repeatedly. The monster yelled out in pain with every hit until he fell back to his knees. At that, more pellets were generated, surrounding him in a ring, ready for the final fatal strike.
“…DIE.”
The pellets slowly closed in on the monster, as Flowey laughed maniacally.
*Can’t believe this is how we’re gonna go. After everything that’s happened, we’re going to be executed by a bored flower.
The pellets were inches away. The monster clamped his eyes, awaiting his demise.
It didn’t come.
The pellets, upon contact, disappeared, and instead of killing him, the monster was completely revitalized. Flowey came out of his reverie, glaring in confusion.
Suddenly, a flame appeared right beside the flower. It then rushed at Flowey, knocking him out of the area, as Flowey screamed. The monster was stupefied at his sudden apparant rescue.
“Such a terrible creature, torturing on others in distress…!” a woman’s voice rang out.
“Wuh?” The monster looked about.
The voice had come from the individual currently rushing towards him, another monster.
This monster was wearing a large blue tunic stopping short at the ankles with draping white sleeves. As the light hit her more clearly, the monster could make out her features more clearly. She was a particularly large individual, quite possibly a good five heads taller than he was. She was covered from head to toe in white fur (well, what was visible anyhow). Her hands and feet appeared to be soft and pawlike. Her head had two horns resembling a dik-dik’s on top, long ears like a beagle’s draping the sides, a pronounced muzzle with a mouth that had her canines slightly jutting out, and soft brown eyes currently admonishing with concern.
She looked startlingly similar to him, but white and soft…
“Oh dear, are you alright? I have seen that flower before, bullying the other monsters, but never before had I seen it attempt to do something as drastic as this.”
She helped the monster to his feet, brushing him off as well.
“…I think I’ll be able to manage, now.” The monster came out of his stupefied reverie. “…to whom may I call the fair lady who came to my rescue?” he all of a sudden asked with a sly grin and wrinkle in his eyes.
Said fair lady’s concerned face snapped into a flustered expression, followed by blushing, sheepish grinning, and tittering as she struggled to cover her face in order to save composure.
“O-oh dear me! Noooo, surely a fine person such as yourself could do much better than me, and most certainly much better than THAT!” she coyly jabbed back. She then cleared her throat and took a breath to regain composure.
“My name is Toriel, and I am the caretaker of these ruins. I pass through this area every day to see if anyone has fallen down.”
Toriel took a good second look at the monster now standing before her.
This monster also had a pronounced muzzle with canines jutting out. Whether he had horns or ears like her was unknown, as the sides of his head was completely draped in long black hair slightly sweeping the shoulders, and hanging on his back; and he was wearing a black cadet cap, on top of what seemed to be a blue bandana if the knot at the back of his head were any indication. He also had a scruffy tufts of mustache as well as a goatee adorning a short beard along his jaw. His fur as well was a near black color, more like a warm dark grey. In turn, he was wearing an exceptionally worn out jacket, the sleeves torn off with remnant tears at the shoulders, and the midriff cut short. It looked like a rather small vest on him, it couldn’t cover the entire front of his torso; that was covered by a red tank top which also looked stretched. He wore dark grey pants to accompany this ensemble, and his boots made no attempt to disguise just how large his feet were.
Could he be…?
“It has been a long time since I have seen anyone like you, out of anyone else who had fallen down here.”
Toriel started making her way toward the opposite end of the antechamber, where she had entered through.
“You could be my guest for a bit, surely?”
The monster, taken aback by everything that transpired before his eyes in the past 5 minutes, was more than eager for a change of pace from all the misfortune.
“Please! Lead the way, madam!”
The monster followed Toriel when she suddenly stopped and turned around to face him.
“Oh! Where are my manners; I do not even know what your name is.”
“Ah! Dun worry, s'not yer fault; I shoulda done that. Da name be Jung, my lady; at your service!”
His voice had reverted from marginally articulately formal back to his casual Cajun drawl.
Toriel slowly smiled and tittered again.
“Oh stop that, you; you’re embarrassing this old bird!”
The two laughed as they exited the antechamber into the ruins.
Close by, the figure of Flowey was slowly stalking behind…
