A/n: I know there is a bunch of things that might seem unnecessary, but they were requested to be put after the original request was asked.To anyone that doesn't like the fic, fuck you it wasn't made for you, I've been working on this for over 2 weeks and I put in as many requirments that were asked of me that I could and I think it came out great! Also, if it seems a little messy, it's because I didn't edit it before posting, I've been reading and reading only this for 2 weeks, I'm done.

February is such a romantic time of the year, it's chilly enough to want to cuddle with someone but not too freezing that one can still go out and have fun. That's why it's perfect that Valentine's day, a celebration of romance, is in February! It's been a year since you made your relationship with your four boyfriends official. It was a long complected process, but at the end of it, you were able to create a functioning and caring relationship with four boys. It was hard at first, with all the insecurity and jealousy floating amongst you all, but there was nothing a little of communication couldn't fix. That's why Valentines day is so important, while with usual dates throughout the year are one on ones set up on different days of the week, Valentines day is the one day of the year where your partners come together to make the day special for you. It's a little awkward for them since they are all brothers and helping each other plan dates all for the same girl wasn't something they really enjoyed, but it had to be done since they all want to celebrate with you. The day was seperated into four different dates, one dated planned for each of your boys and each date would be two and a half hours.

Your first date is Leo, he planned something simple, he wanted to show off his cooking skills and make you a homemade meal. He planned to pick you up at your house after you got home from work, but he was so excited for what he planned for the date that he just ambushes you on your way to the subway and takes you back to the lair. Although his intentions were sweet, you reprimand him and tell him not to scare you like that again.

"I'm sorry, Love. Let me make it up to you with this!" He then shows you the food he made, he spent hours working on a three course meal. Being a ninja, he found a lot of inspiration from Japan, so each dish was an authentic Japanese dish. The first dish was miso soup. It is actually really good, it has a gentle flavor that warms your cheeks. "Wow, Leo! This is great! How come you've never made this for me before?"He beams as you complement his hard work. "Well, this is actually the first time I've ever made it. I'm so happy you like it!" You giggle when you see him smile, he seems more excitable than usual. Next is the main course, nigiri and temaki sushi. You are surprised that he could make such small food with such big hands and it still come out looking so well put together. I taste fine at first, but as you chew you can tell that something was wrong with it. While the soup tasted great, this is the complete opposite. It had such a bold sour flavor and the rice stuck to the roof of your mouth making it hard to swallow. You tried your best to conceal your disgust because you knew how much care he put into the food, but you just knew that this was going to come back up later. "Oh- wow. This is so good, Leo." You say while holding your stomach. "It's so good, but I think I'm full now." "Really? That's too bad because I made dessert too." His expression dims and while it hurt your heart to see him disappointed, it hurt you insides more to continue. While the meal doesn't continue according to plan, the date is saved by conversation about each other's day and just generally enjoying the other's presence. When the date was over, you kiss him sweetly to show your appreciation. Although you couldn't eat everything, you know he put a lot of effort in this and you love him for it.

Your next date is with Mikey. He is a fun loving guy, but sometime what seems really fun to him is kind of gross to everyone else. His great date idea is to go swimming in the sewers. Of course he didn't expect you to go swimming in the gray water of New York, he had found a spot where the water has just come from being filtered but has not yet reached the homes of the city people so it was clean, but the main problem for you is that it is still the sewer that is filled with bugs, rats, and other creatures you'd rather stay away from. However, not wanting to ruin the cute date he planned, you reluctantly let him take you swimming.

Mikey gushes over your swim suit, a two piece with high-waist bottoms, it has a light green base with white flowers printed all over. It isn't tight, but it hugs your body in all the right places that Mikey can't help but be handsy and touch all your curves. You smile when you see his swim trunks, neon orange with pizza slices in the shape of lightning bolts. though his swim suit is cute, you can't get rid of your nerves. You try your best not to tic and show him that you really didn't want to go swimming with him, but with the repression plus Leo's bad cooking, you feel like the pressure building up and you want to throw up. "Are You ready?" He asks excitedly. You take a deep breath and hold onto his hand. "...Yes, I think so."

Mikey then pulls you into a tight hug and jumps into the water, The water rushes through the sewers like a water slider, you ride down it on top of your boyfriend as he lies on his back until you two each the bottom with a small pool of clear water, at the end of the pool is spilling water. You hold each other as you two splash into the pool and you both gasp for air and laugh after resurfacing from beneath the water.

You are happy to see clean water, not that you thought he'd take you somewhere gross, but the thought of not being able to see the bottom scares you. The two of you swim and splash in the water, it is fun to be with him. You even have a competition to see who could hold their breath longer, obviously Mikey win due to his amphibious advantage.

Some time later, Mikey get tired and finds that watching you is more enjoyable then doing his own thing. He watches as you swim from one end of the pool to the other. When you notice this, you giggle and swim towards him. "What are you doing? I thought we were swimming?" You ask. When you get close, he instinctively pulls you in close and you wrap your arms around his neck. "I was, but I just wanted to take a moment to admire my hot girlfriend." His comment make you laugh more. Seeing how cute you are, he can't help but reach down to grab your ass, giving it a small squeeze. "Really? That's what you want to do?" You ask, raising a brow. "It is Valentine's Day after all, why not?" He pulls you into a kiss, you feel his smile on your lips and you blush. When you let his lips go you smile at him and scratch his shell in the way he loves so much. "You're right, it is Valentine's day." You pull him closer, seemingly to kiss him again, but then you push him away and giggle as you swim away."But I'm not fucking you in the sewers, that's gross." He grabs his chest likes he's been hit with an arrow to the heart and sighs, making you laugh more. "You really thought, didn't you?" Your giggling echos throughout the sewer. "Yeah, I did. It was worth a shot though." He says disappointed, but his smile never disappearing.

You two continue to swim, but soon his date time is up and he takes you back to the lair where you met up with Donnie, who is next to take you on a date.

After your date with Mikey, you take a quick shower in the lair bathroom and then head to Donnie's lab. There you are greeted with a bright smile. "Hello, Dove! Did you have fun with Mikey?" He asks. "Yeah, I-" You instinctively cover you face and sneeze. "It probably wasn't a good idea to go swimming in February." Donnie laughs and places a hand on your back. "Well, let me help you warm up."

He leads you to his bedroom where a nest of pillows and blankets were lied out "I had a lot of ideas for our date, but then I couldn't pick which one was to do so I ended up copying Raph and set up a movie night." You gasp and playfully push him. "Donnie! I didn't go on his date yet! I thought it was a surprise!" "Sorry, I thought we agreed he'd go first. There was so much arguing that I lost track on the order we agreed on." He rubs his neck bashfully and apologizes. "Actually, Leo went first." You say, sitting on Donnie's bed. You remembered the food Leo gave you and it makes you tic. Donnie places a gentle hand on your shoulder and pulls you closer to kiss your head. This is his go-to way to calm you down when he sees you tic. "No matter who went first, I hope you like my date the best. I made sure the atmosphere was nice and comfy. I hope you like the movie I picked." On his laptop he pulls up a window and a movie starts to play. Donnie sits on his bed with his legs spread and you sit in the space between.

As you watched the movie, you can see why he chose it. It was a scifi which is his favorite fictional genre and had a romance between a human and an alien. You appreciated that he tried to stay on the romantic theme to match the occasion. Throughout watching the film, you notice that Donnie hasn't stopped touching you. He has kept one arm wrapped around your waist while the other has been roaming your body, mainly rubbing up and down your arm or leg. "Uh, Donnie?" You see him messing with the projector trying to get it to work but with minimal success. You laugh which gets his attention. "Do you find my struggle funny?" He asks, his tone is not angry but more playfully embarrassed. You walk up to him and give him a big hug, still giggling. "Maybe a little. Let me help, okay? I know they can be hard to work with but having smaller fingers can help." You go to fix the projector and it works immediately. You look to Raph and you notice that his expression seems strange, it's softer. As he looks down at you there is a soft smile and you can't quite tell what he's thinking. "What are you thinking?" You ask, turning around to hug him. You see him blush and pull you in closer. "I'm just, y'know, thinking about different things." You giggle at his shy reaction. "Oh yeah? You want to elaborate on that?" He shakes his head and laughs with you. "No, let me just show you the movie." You continue to laugh and embarrass him more as the two of you sit down to watch the movie.

"What are we watching?" You settle down with Raph and he pulls you into a surprisingly tight hug. "So uhm, do you remember that one movie last Halloween where I wanted to show you that one movie but-" "No! No, no, no! I know what movie you're talking about and I'm don't want to!" You try to get up and run away, but Raph's grip on you was too strong. "Babe, please. I know you'll love it you just have to see. In the end it's super romantic!-" "Raphael! I am not watching the movie about the little creature stealing teeth in the middle of the night! I can't do it! You know I can't watch horror movies, I tic like crazy!" You struggle and squirm to get out of his grip but to no avail, what's worse is that it's so effortless to him. "Goddammit! Why are you so strong?" Raph laughs and you feel the vibration of in through his plastron. "Are you really asking me that?" You looks down at you with a charming smile. "Yeah, I already know and it's hot as fuck...." "Really? You think I'm hot?" "Raph this is not the point! I don't want to watch this movie!" You face is red and flustered, the stress of it all makes you tic and small high-pitched puppy like whimpers are ripped from your mouth as you twist your neck to look left repeatedly, it's a very painful and annoyingly cute tic. Raph while still holding you tight, rubs the sides of your arms to calm you down. He's not the best at calming people down, but he tries.

As the movie plays you see the romantic sub-plot and the relationship looks a lot like you and Raph, but you can't get over the cryptic looking fairy creatures stealing the main character's teeth in the middle of the night. "R-Raph, I c-can't do this....." Over some time your tics start to slow down and have pauses in between each once. Raph thinks that means you're calming down and starting to enjoy the movie, but unfortunately that judgement was wrong.

You feel your body be shot with electricity. Your body starts to stiffen and you hold onto Raph tightly, digging your nails into him almost breaking skin. "Ow...Babe? Are you ok?" You don't respond, you can't. Your body shakes and you feel as if trapped, like your body was merely a prison for your mind. "Babe, oh god. Are you-? Okay yeah, you're having one of those seizure things. Oh god!" Out of panic he lets go of his tight grip on you. For a second he thinks that he should carry you to Donnie, but the thought of hurting you because he miss-handled you freaks him out, so he leaves you lying on the floor in front of his bed were the two of you were sitting. "Thank you, Raph. Very gentleman-like" Is what you think before he runs out of the room.

Five second later he comes back to place a pillow under your head. "Please be okay! I got to go!" He then run out of the room again. "Ok, that's better."

A few minutes pass and you return to normal, well, aside from being a little unstable, but nothing a couple minutes of calming down couldn't fix. "Wow, I can't fucking believe he just left me here! Raph, you idiot...." You take a few deep breathes as you pout and wait for your red banded boyfriend to come back. You pick up the pillow he left for you so your wouldn't be hurt and sigh into it with a hug "Idiot...."

Soon enough Mikey and Donnie come rushing in, but noticeably Raph and Leo are absent. "Oh my god, Baby! Are you okay? Mikey rushes to you about to embrace you in a hug, but he stops himself and backs away. You're confused until Donnie steps up. With a sweet but concerned expression he approaches and takes you hand gently. "Please take this and squeeze." He places a marble the size of your palm in your hand. You do as you're told squeeze onto the marble. Donnie brings up a hologram that appears from his wrist. You see that it's vitals, presumably yours. Your expression deadpans and you drop the marble. "You know, you could just ask me how I am. This isn't the first time I've had a seizure and I've told you guys about it before." "We know, it's just that we we're worried." Donnie says, picking up the marble from the floor. "You don't have to be, I'm fine!" Mikey smiles with tears streaming from his face and pulls you into a hug. "I was so scared that you were going to die!" He holds you tight and sobs. You smile and pet his shell to reassure him. "I'm fine, Mikey-" You suddenly hear yelling in the other room and your smile falls. "Where is Raph and Leo? Is that them out there?" You look to Donnie for answers but he just looks away, Mikey let's you go and does the same to avoid you gaze, they both know how you feel about fighting amongst themselves and they didn;t want to confirm your suspicions. You get up and walk past them to leave the room and the two don't stop you.

You walk into the open space of the lair to see Raph and Leo fighting once again. You thought they had stopped this when you guys started dating but it obviously hasn't. "How could you let this happen? We go a year and she has never once had a seizure with us, she has been safe and secure for so long, but the moment she is left alone with you it happens! Did you do this on purpose? You know how much she tics when she watches horror movie-" "I would never put her in harms way on-" "But the thing is, Raph, is that you did! She got hurt because of you! All of this is-" You watch them fight, but you can't let it go on. "Stop! Please stop fighting!" You run in a step in between them to show them your fine. They stand in shock for a second before the chaos break again. "Babe, I'm sorry! I never meant to-" Raph tries apologize but before he can finish you find Leo's arms snake around you and pick you up. He then carries you away and rushes out of the lair.

You hold onto Leo with your eyes closed and face towards his plastron as he rushes away, he can feel his breath is heavy and wavered. When he stops and breathes, you see that your on a roof building somewhere in the city. He loosens up as he calms down, when you try to escape his hold he doesn't let you. "I was scared.....for you." You look up at him, and see a few tears threatening to fall. "I read up on seizure when you told me you told me you got them and I read all about people dying and-.....I was scared you'd get hurt. When it finally happen I thought I was going to lose you." Leo puts your feet on the ground but doesn't let you go, he still holds on tight but shakey. You smile softly and reach for his face, forcing him to look at you. "You got anxious? That's okay, my love! I know you love but you have to remember that you love them too, they're your brothers, so you can't get mad at them when things happen." Leo doesn't say anything, he just let's you continue to comfort him. "I've dealt with seizure for many years before I met any of you and I will deal with them for many years into the future, at some point you guys were going to see me have one, so it's not Raph's fault and I know you know that."

Leo kneels down on the ground so that you are taller than him and you continue to hug him and lovingly pet his shell. He's still for a moment, but then he smells something. He pushes you away to smell the air and he doesn't find it. He sniffs you and smells something strange. He continues to sniff almost like a dog and pushes you to the ground. You laugh at first but then his snout travels further down your body and you start to get nervous if not a little embarrass. "L-Leo? What are you doing" He makes it all the way to in between your thighs and then stops. "I'm sorry I got mad, I did mean to become-" He clears his throat, stalling himself from admitting it out loud. "-territorial..." You look up at him, still somewhat teary-eyed. "I'm sorry too, I never mean to make you guys feel so awful."

You both stay silent for a moment, trying to calm down from yelling at each other. "Did you feel jealous? Since I was so intimate with Donnie." Leo chuckles in a bashful way, a little bit because of they way you asked it but mainly out of embarrassment of being so mad at you for something that seems a little silly. "Yeah, I think I was. It's just that you were pretty intimate with not just Donnie but with Mikey and Raph too. You went swimming with Mikey and he got to see you basically have naked and when Raph had a chance to protect you he just left you there to go through it alone!" You grab a hold of his arms and rub up and down to ground him. "So you felt left out?" He takes a breathe and softly smiles at you. "I guess I did feel that way, sorry."

You reach your arms up pull him into a quick kiss, it's soft and only lasts a second but its warm and sweet. You smile sincerely as you look into his eyes. "Leo, do you want to make it equal then? He feels butterflies in his stomach as you speak, a bit dazed by your affectionate attitude. "Make what equal?...." "You said you felt left out, so do you want to join in? Be intimate with me too?" "For one, I wasn't screaming. Two, maybe it only seemed like that because you were sucking my soul out of my body when you ate my pussy." You flirt and banter for a bit before finally he takes you back to the lair, to reunite with your other boyfriends.

Sonic Month!: Patreon Triple Feature!: Unfair Ball/Hooked On Sonics/Battle of the Boy Bands (Sonic X, SATAM, Sonic Boom), Patreon Review for Emma Fici

Hello all you happy hedgehog! I’m Jake, I review stuff and today is a day i’ve been waiting for as we start SONIC MONTH. Once a week for all of march i’m doing a review starring everyone’s faviorite blue blur in celebration of the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2! Yes with hype for my faviorite blue dude with attitude, sorry dewey, at an all time high and with something like this only coming every other year, I thought it’d be fun to do this and got the help of my good friend Emma Fici, who previous via a comissoin an da patreon review had me cover the sonic undreground 3 part pilot and sonic christmas blast. We both have a deep lifelong love of sonic, it’s super fast highs, it’s too slow lows, and it’s utterly weird variety of ways to interpret the fastest thing alive from the freedom fighters of SATAM, Archie and Fleetway, to the post adventure worlds of the modern games, idw comics and Sonic X, to post modern world of sonic boom , there’s just so much to do an dti’s all fucking great

So naturally to kick us off i’m closing the gap and reviewing the OTHER threre sonic cartoons. See my patreons get one review a month so emma’s using both hers from last month (as you can opt out ot save it for later or to save up three tv reviews to cash in for a movie), and this month.. and being a good friend and not wanting to cover underground TWICE before i’d covered the show it’s basically riping off once, I asked her to pick a satam free of charge.

So grab a chilli dog, a sonic themed energy drink and some heavily expired spagettos as I cover two very weird hedgehog tales with diffrent approaches to being batshit insane and one of SATAM’s best as we celebrate the fastest thing alive!

Sonic X: Unfair Ball/Fierce Fight! Sonic Baseball Team!

Starting us off we have Sonic X. Like all the sonic shows it’s unique, and in this case for a variety of reasons: it was the first produced post adventure, the only one made in japan and thus not only had to be dubbed but said dub’s cast went on to be the offical cast for a while with Mike Pollock being retained to this day. More on him later obviously. It’s also at the time of this writing the only one to outright adapt any of the games with adventure, adventure 2 and battle all getting adaptations, with Sonic Heroes likely only not getting one because it came out around the same time the season was airing and season 3 went in a massively diffrent direction.

So naturally this is a unique creature. It’s also the only one I saw first ruN: I was like.. four when satam and adventures came out (I saw them in reruns instead), Underground wans’t on any channel I was aware of as a kid, and I didn’t have cable by the time boom came out. X on the other hand aired thanks to good old 4kids on their fox box lineup.

I fucking loved the fox box and rightfully so. While 4kids is remembered more nowadays for weirdly trying to ignore the fact the shows it dubbed were made in japan or censoring adult content with invisible guns and lolly pops, it’s worth remembering that a lot of the time.. they were actually good at their job. Sure part of it’s nostalgia since they were a staple of my childhood via pokemon, yugioh, ultimate muscle and TONS of other dubs as well as their only western work with TMNT 2003, and are a large reason why I’m still a fan of pokemon, yugioh and tmnt to this day by getting me hooked on them back then.. but they had a talented stable of actors, got the feel of their works more often than not and while they went to hilarious lengths with the censorship, a lot of that stems from the standards for children’s cartoons at the time: censors probablyw eren’t cool with having a cardgame to decide whose legs get sawed off or dies falling thorugh a buliding, so they had to do the best they could even if it was usually just “the shadow realm with you”. I’m not saying they were all okay: their refusal to release uncut versions like Funimation or even include the originals on dvds was very not okay, while I prefer dubs myself I get people preferring subs and want them to have that option legally, and their half assed dubbing of one piece because they didn’t care about getting it (Toei, who has their OWN long record of bad desciions forced it on them apparently) is appaling, especially since the equally family unfriendly yuyu haksho had been succesfully cut for toonami... and I love dit a sa kid despite still being pretty fucking dark, just less bloody, so they have no excuse for how it went. 4kids was far from a perfect company, but it got a lot of kids like me into anime, made it more accesible, and helped , alongside the us version of shonen jump, get more kids into it. So I have some fondness for them if tempered with incredibly stupid descioins.. kind of like how I treat disney in present day. Love some of the things they made, question the hell out of a lot of the things they do.

Anyways getting back on track, while I did see the show while it was airing I didn’t see much of it. My best guess is I liked something that was on at the same time on kids wb more or that it was simply on too early, as emma remembers it being on at like 6 in the morning. Though what I saw of it was mostly monster of the week stuff that didn’t work as well as what Kirby was doing on the same network, as well as some annoying little kid and as an adult I really havne’t rechecked it out like satam or adventures because I just heard bad things. I am seriously considering giving the series a full review at some point, season by season, along with giving every sonic series the same treatment (Though for ones like adventures or underground that are one long blob I’m going to chonk it up. ) If you’d be intrested in that let me know in the comments or simply like this post. Point is I dont’ have a through knowledge of this show going in or a huge attachment to it, but I gave it a fair shake, especailly since the episode I was being handed was one of it’s dumber outings.

As a quick primer for those not at all familliar with the show: Sonic X has Sonic and Friends, after a battle with robotnik “Stranded in a new location without any explinaton”: Earth

Sonic ends up drowning in a pool, oddly for the time not set to drowning pool but 4kids is working on a budget of 4 paperclips and some string as it is so I can’t blame them, and is saved by Chris Throndyke..

Yeah Chris is a precocious 10 year old boy who the entire fandom wants to punt into the sun. I remember not really liking him and honestly he feels redundant. He’s also likely one of the reasons, among many people were trepedatious about the first sonic movie: Sonic being pals with a human didn’t work out the last time. Thankfully Tom is actually useful, enjoyable to be around, and i’m glad he’s in the sequel, while Chris is mostly forgotten because he was a kid sidekick to a guy who already had the position filled.

So he invites sonic to live with him, his grandpa chuck (the irony is not lost on me), and his butler whose name I forgot but is voiced by darren dustan aka maximillion pegasus aka Geovanni in a pokemon stage show that one time...

It’s weird. Amy, Cream and Tails are also living there apparently while Knuckles fucked off to the woods so he can be mysterious and solo and stuff.. you know like he was before the series slowly drained the relevance and dignity from his body. Hopefully being given the second sexiest voice in human history will fix that..

Anyways onto this VERY silly episode. And i’m not judging the series by it: a lot of series have weaker or downright insane episodes. It’d be like judging miraculous ladybug by that time a bunch of grown men had a no girls allowed party in a teenagers bedroom till a disco stalker showed up and had to be subdued by a monkey man. It’s just not fair. I am however not going to hold back on this episode. if your looking for so bad it’s good sonic content, this one is is pure crush 40 carrot gold.

So the plot kicks off thanks to tails just sorta flying around in his plane:

Sadly instead of his dope plan from sonic adventure 2, or his also dope plane from sonic adventure 2.. we get.. this thing

Like... this is apparently an UPGRADE but looks like any old jet and just has a sad white and yellow paint job. Which is a colorscheme that could work but just does not here. It’s just so boring and it shoudln’t be. Making your own plane for tails is fine but when both of his in the games at this point are dope as hell and iconic in their own right, why would you half ass it?

Anyways the chaos emeralds natural pull for one another, something I and the games forgot about but X faithfully adapts, causes Tails to have to land in a stadium where he befriends the groundskeeper after he mistook him for the gremlin who steals his shoe at night. The guy is bummed because the stadium is being shut down for one with artifical turf after spending years as a baseball groundskeeper man. He soon turns out to have the light blue chaos emerald, with the stadium being named diamond stadium after it because eh why not.

This attracts the Eggman, and he’s got the masterplan.. to.. challenge sonic and friends to a game of baseball.

We’ll unpack that after the theme song, which no matter the language fucking slaps. The one I heard, the 4kids theme rocks. Which isn’t a huge suprise: one of 4kids best weapons was making catchy as hell themes. And while I wished they and more anime back then used dubs of the original themes, because anime themes fucking slap, they still managed to equal the original with goofy gusto and 4kids was the king of that. Sonic X is fun, incredibly fast, and introduced the whole gotta go fast catchphrase which perfectly fits sonic and is on par with others like “gotta juice” or “That’s no good”. I’m waiiiiting can burn in hell where it belongs. I love jaleel but god damn that’s annoying.

Anyway, the original japanese theme is also a banger, Sonic Drive, a fucking fuck energetic number sung by the same guy who sung the japanese dragon ball z theme chala head chala. So overall no matter if your watching dubs or subs, your in for a good time and no matter the country, sonic gives you a great theme song guaranteed.

Anyways yeah.. that’s literally eggman’s plan this time. He made robot baseball players and sends his messenger gremlin bokun to go formally challenge sonic and them. As for why he didn’t just.. you know.. take it take it go robotnik, ultimate power just isn’t as satisfying if you aren’t stealing it from a bunch of furries and some ten year old who they live with.

But yes he challenges them and Chris made shoos him out of there

So sonic speeds over there, with amy following since she’s almost as fast and.. oh nope they just.. pile inot chris’ van I guess because they also take him, his butler, and his grandpa chuck. The last one will be their downfall.

Thankfully knuckles decided to live in the woods instead of a sweet ass rich kid mansion because doing so would mean having to live with chris and the other comic relief human characters, which already makes him the one carrying the braincell for this series even before we get to him being the only one in this plot not to have been hit on the head 75 million times. So while Eggman gets there and has to fight tails... who is suddenly scared depsite having fought this guy ten times before coming here, in several episodes since arriving, and having also fought a witch and an empire of birds. more on them soon.

This is a problem with some versions of the character: they make tails helpless, forgetting he’s not only a genius since adventure, but also a scrappy fighter. He’s more in the mid range sure, not as fast as sonic or strong as knuckles, but he can fly, and he can still move almost as fast as sonic, which combined gives him great agility. And most modern games and apparently this cartoon just reduce him to sonic’s easily breakable genius friend which annoys me. Tails is more than this, and deserves more. It’s why i’m greatful for Ian Flynn as he never forgot how good tails could be in archie or in idw currently, to the point that in one arc of archie the two, after some emotoinal stuff drove a wedge in them, had it out. and while sonic was holding back because you know, he didn’t actually want to fight his best friend while tails had a lot of resintment towards his best bud to unpack, once he stopped tails still kept up and the fight was only resolved by sonic apologizing for making out iwth the girl tails had a crush on. And yes that’s really what happened. It’s actually geninely heartfelt shockingly enough.

And it was also cleaning up some crap from the previous run to boot... which I don’t have time to get into. Someday. My point is Ian actually cares what tails feels and remembers he can fight, and thankfully he wrote the next game so hopefully even if Tails isn’t playable (Seriously stop making only sonic playable. This isn’t mario. Cut that shit out), he still won’t be entirely useless.

Thankfully the next person who knock knocks at the stadium door is knuckles, the blow blower, the magical emerald holder who gives the robot the coldest shoulder. Everyone else shows up soon after with Eggman revealing he was 100% sincere about that baseball thing.. and before Sonic can go with the more resonable plan of...

Chuck chimes in and... i’m going to need to get text loud for this pardon me...

GENINELY ACCEPTS HIS OFFER OF PLAYING A GAME OF BASEBALL FOR THE TWO CHAOS EMERALDS, ONE OF WHICH IS THERES AND THEY HAVE NO REASON TO WAGER.

I.. I don’t even need to point out why this is stupid. And it’s not a strategy thing.. Chuck literally says “Playing baseball sounds like fun”. He is gambling the fate of the world on a baseball game for shits and giggles! I’ve seen people bet their legs on a card game, seen people be their mother’s soul on also a card game when bluffing, and this.. this is still more insane because both of those were out of necsity. Yugi kinda had no chocie and Jotaro was fully planning to scare his opponent into folding. Chuck just wants to play some baseball and is willing to wager his friends chance of getting home, the world’s safety and his grandsons future.. TO PLAY BASEBALL. Against a team of robots! I mean I get he has a bunch of super furries on his team, I do, but the team also includes himself, an elderly man if one in good health, his butler and his 10 year old grandson. This may be one of the dumbest thigns in sonic history and that’s a hall of fame that includes thinking a four player co op game was something fans wanted, nerbs, chaos knuckles, sonic 20 years later, knuckles convoluted history, 80 dozen lost family members, knuckles as a resitance leader, cyborg tails, sonic blast, and robonik’s weird breakdown in front of the world as he pissed on the moon. And this is a strongest contender for dumbest one there is!

See EVERYONE GOES ALONG WITH THIS. Sonic questions it for about a second before agreeing, amy and cream are all “This will be fun! Tee hee! We’re horribly underwritten in this series! and Tails is ONLY mad for a second because those dang kids are going to ruin his friends lawn! And that’s only until the guys like “chill man that’s what it’s for” after that he’s all for “Operation: We’re Really Doing This huh”

Knuckles is the one carrying the braincell this ep, outright saying this is idotic to start and then rightfully pointing out how horribly half assed this plan is. Everyone else’s response?

Yes really. They all pray on his ego to get him to go along with the dumbest game ever played.

I’m not against an episode being goofy. You can have utterly werid comedy episodes in a show if the tone fits it and sonic x’s seems to be perfectly fine for that. There’s another episode I saw listed on netflix that has eggman make an evil robot teacher to infiltrate chris’ school. This is , at least at this point in it’s history, not the most serious show.

The problem is this the show isn’t so zany that the plot works on a serious level: they are betting the two chaos emeralds they know about.. because they think it’d be fun. Other shows in more recent times like OK Ko and rise of the tmnt got that. Rise didn’t tie in the demon shredder plot to that episode where they ended up trapped in an 80s montage while ok ko ballanced humor and comedy well, cutting down the comedy whe needed but sometimes managing to have utterly rediculous stuff in plot important eps, like the big reveal behind Professor Venemous’ backstory.... having his partner in both sense Lord Boxman tell him he thought they were going to wait a season. But the episode just.. fully buys into this stupid premise with way too high stakes. It’s hilaroius sure.. but not for the right reasons.

So the rest of the episode is just goofy baseball shenanigans with impossibly high stakes. Also just to prove our heroes CAN sink lower, they don’t use their powers at first to play fair.

I apologize that a LOT of this review is just me ranting at how batshit this is but I mean.. how do I even top this. Our heroes are playing fair in a fight for the one thing that can get them home that they entered because an old man wanted to play baseball. I’m a pretty good comedian, been at this three years now, but.. I can’t top that. I just can’t. I’m person enough to admit my limits.

Now I will give credit where it’s do: the actual antics.. are pretty entertaining. Sonic catches a ball with super speed but it’s out of bounds, knuckles just.. htis straight homers with his super strength, and amy just shoves the head of her hammer onto a baseball bat. These are great gags. I had to pause to laugh multiple times both because of legit good gags.. and insane ones, like Chuck randomly subbing butler man as a fielder.. for cheese. This episode is entertaning as it is stupid.

The one gag that dosen’t work.. is Cream who tells the robot to go easy on her it’s her first time playnig baseball which creepily sounds like flirting and is animated as such.. because in the original japanese SHE WAS. she said she loved the robot. Helpful reminder: CREAM IS 6

Also if your wondering how groundskeeper man factors into it, the local 80′s april o neil reports about the game live so tons of people come to see.. which is fair it’s a bunch of super powered furries fighting a bunch of robots> It’s the reason people love this franchise, his boss later comes in and none of this really matters because it’s in an episode about sonic and friends playing baseball for a world conqueringly powerful gem they didn’t have to ante up but did anyway.

So our heroes do win... the game. But in one final hilarously insane move.. Eggman just.. takes off with them. Yes they let HIM hold the emeralds

But chuck says we’ll get them next time blah blah blah trying to blatantly paper over the fact this is all his fault before knuckles realizes this and commits some elder abuse with his bat

Final Thoughts on Baseball Episode:

This episode was dumb and I loved it. I sit frustrating... well yes obviously, but it’s just so gloriously stupid you can’t help but enjoy it. Granted I love a good baseball ep from the various x-men baseball games, to jujustu kaizen, to steven universe, to peanuts to bloom county... observe

So I may be a touch biased despite never playing nor watching the sport, as it’s the funnest to watch other people play in media, but even without that this is just a batshit piece of media even by sonic standards and I commend you to check it out. The series is currently on netflix and hulu at the time of this article so S-O-N-I-C GO!.. watch it.

SATAM: Hooked on Sonics

Okay so onto SATAM. If your curious why ti’s called that its because the shows actual title is sonic the hedgehog... and given that was confusing even before we got another game called that and a feature film named that, it was the right call.

SATAM is often held up as the gold standard of sonic cartoons and it’s easy to see why: SATAM swung for the fences, putting sonic in a darker world that he’d seen conquered by robotnik, with only a small band of freedom fighters, all fellow teens, to help him. The Freedom Fighters themselves are awesome characters, only made better by the comics, ian flynn’s runs in paticular, fleshing them out into throughly intresting three dimensional characters who could keep up with sonic. You had Sally, Sonic’s love intrest and tactical genius as well as the resitance’s actual leader (Sonic was the muscle and deputy leader), rotor a tech genius walrus since that wasn’t part of tails character yet, and Bunnie a cyborg southren belle and basically rogue from the x-men as a rabbit complete with tons of angst. There were also Tails, who was religated to kid sidekick in this continuity and early archie and Anotine, a cowardly asshole who was sonic’s rival for sally.. on paper. in practice he had zero chance. Thankfully archie , unlike satam, gave him character devleopment so not only did he move past sally and onto bunnie, aka one of my faviorite ships and something we’ll be getting more into very soon, but became an expert and incredibly brave swordsman. So yeah you might’ve guessed I like these guys, paticuarlly both archie versions, but the satam ones laid the ground work.

As for the cartoon itself it just works. Season 2 from what little i’ve seen of it drops slightly in quality but the atmosphere, voice acting and storytelling are top notch for the time. While it is still very much a 90′s cartoon, there isn’t anything resembling an arc till next season and there’s no real character progression, it’s still one that holds up well and again served as the foundation for my faviorite version of sonic.

It also, as is custom, has a kickass theme song. And if you’ve never heard it.. welll...

This is the best of the intros. And none of them are outright bad. But in both visuals commuinmcating the shows story PERFECTLY, and the utterly great song that perfectly fits our hero, boastful as hell but he can back. it. UP, it’s the best of the sonic themes and again, the others aren’t slouches with X and Sonic Drive in paticular being damn close. But ultimately you just can’t beat this one.

This ep sticks out from our other two in that it’s not utterly insane, and instead is just a really well written ep with a decent conflict. Robotnik is draining the life from the trees in the forest using a new machine because he’s a captain planet villian in this series.... wait I take that back he actually has a reason to do this as the great forest, where our heroes live, hides their village of knothole. So destroying it as he often tries to do means they’d have nowhere to hide. It’s things like this WHY the show still holds up: in most cartoons of the time the villian wouldn’t all out assault the rebels because the show would end. Here they have something protecting them that’s logical to the setting and fits it’s environmental themes.

So sonic wins, of course, and brags to his public. Sally even cheek kisses him and I love their dynamic. Look smartass and more repsonsible person isn’t new, i get that but no matter the medium the two just play off each other well, with jalell and kath sourcie really having good chemistry especailly. The way he says it’s not half bad and then shows her what great is, and she slyly plays it off. it’s what I like to see in a couple.

Antoine is also used well here: Satam could ping pong between loveable egotist and resentful ass whose mad Sally dosen’t like him, something the comics wisely instead dencostufcted showing that his futile efforts only made him more insecure and he truly got happier and more confident when he gave up chasing someone who simply didn’t see him that way and never would. You know a HEALTHY message about that sort of thing. What a concept.

Here it works because it decounstructs his resintment as he does his usual trying to brush off sonic’s heroics thing.. before being incredibly sad down by the lake of rings, the magical lake they get the rings from which in this adaptation give the user power. Granted only sonic can use them and that geninely bugs me as they never explain WHY that is in this or the comics (which at least use them to power stuff as well as sonic), but it’s still a neat way to recontextualize them. It’s also not over powered: they only get one a day so sonic gets one shot with them and that’s it. If he looses it while on the mission or uses it too quickly, that’s on him.

Back to antoine, his resentintment is really just envy. The girl he likes likes someone whose cooler, more useful and more loved by everyone while he’s just some guy they keep around for reasons even he’s not sure of. It’ ssomething I can relate to: not knowing how to be as up front with your feelings and watching someone else better than you and sometims a dick to you get the girl because you can’t do nothing but pine. It’s not healthy, and he needs to grow out of it and again, he did in the comics to great effect, but it’s relatable.

So Rotor makes the mistake of instead of trying to be emapthetic, telling him sally might like him if he captured robotnik.. forgetting anotine dosne’t get jokes often and takes the idea seriously, stealing the power ring to use as bait

It also shows that as much as he tends to be the useless one of the group... antoine CAN think when eh can. Sure bringing the ring as bait is an entirely stupid plan and he shoudlv’e talked to someone else.. but the episode dosen’t treat it like anything else. He made a bad call for bad reasons and it ends badly. But he does try: he lures robotnik out, makes sure he not one of his bots comes to get it (which he does) and even has a pit trap ready. And honestly ti’s not bad: in most incarnatoins robotnik isn’t that much of a threat out of his mechs or what not, so it’s resonable to assume once captured he’d be easy to get or at least easy to keep long enough for the others to get to him.

But he both picked an easy trap.. and the wrong robotnik as Satam robotnik gets one of his most iconic moments to show just how pants crappingly terrifying he is, using jet boots to easily fly out of the trap. I will also say Jim Cummings is tied with Mike Pollock for my faviorite robotnik. POllock fits him as he is now being able to be goofy as hell btu also menaccing and was kept over form the 4kids day for good reason while Jim fits THIS robotnik perfectly, being utterly meancing and nightmarish , a cruel dictator with no remorse, no hope of swaing him or tricking him. Just pure evil.

So the rest of the gang soon finds out what Antoine done did, with Rotor kicking himself for helping set this off and Sally convinces sonic to save him.. both because it’s the right thign and because if anyone can use the ring it’ srobotnik. And sure enough he was not only working on a new model of the life draining thing but adapts it for the ring. giving it ulmited power. Thanks antoine! He also plans to roboticze him.

And Robotnik being awesome dosen’t stop there: his weapon for the ep, his other weapon anyay is ingenous, a lighting that hones in on sonic’s speed and is almost as fast as he is. So while he CAN dodge it it’s only just barely and it does hit him once or twice while he’s fighting. It forces sonic to move at normal speed lest he get hit and is a great way to turn his greatest advantage and most iconic feature against him.

Sonic saves ant, who is sympathetic in part because he apologizes for what an idiot he was and Sonic shows that while he may not like the guy.. he’s not a dick, assuring him they’ll fix this together. Awww. How sonic beats both machines is also great, simply using the machine’s tracking him against it to take out the earth machine thing and get the ring back .. and since robotnik attaached th elaser to that sonic wins, antoine gets a momen tint he son and this episode is really good. it’s simple, sure, but it’s good great pacing, uses it’s three principals incredibly well and shows off why these incrnations of sonic and robotnik are so loved: sonic is a cocky but geninely clever hero who while he will needle a guy won’t kick him while he’ sdown, while robotnik is utterly evil but is clever enough to back that evil up and explain why the heroes can’t just knock his ass out in five minutes. This show is remembered for good reason and i’ll certainly be coming back to it.

Sonic Boom; Battle of the Boy bands

So we end this long boy with Sonic Boom, the latest sonic animated show at the time of this writing and the first in over a decade when it dropped. And this one.... was not welcomed on arrival. Boom was, as I mentioned earlier, part of a failed attempt at a new branch of the sonic franchise.. which amounted to “sonic is on an island now, everyone has new outfits, there’s a badger, and Knuckles skipped leg day”. Shockingly this didn’t go well: the game side of it failed on arrival with the infamous shattered crystal and the cartoon didn’t have the best receptoin at first. This can be chocked up to a lot of things: Shattered Crystal being 06 levels of bad, people not digging the redesigns, personally I think all of them but knuckles which objectively looks weird are fine and my only complaint deisgns wide is the weird amount of grip tape because Sagat was Boom’s character designer I guess, instead of gloves, and the series turning out to be a meta character based humor show ala animanics instead of the serious epic many were hoping for.. me included. I didn’t bash the show without watching but after waiting a decade for a new sonic series, and the main games at the time and present day not being great, it was a bit of alet down to find instead of lore or anythign we were getting shenanigans.

That said i’ve come around to it: You can’t blame a show for not being what YOU personally wanted and on their budget, even if the show looks great, it was probably easier to do a wacky comedy. And frankly given just how bad shattered crystal turned out, it ended up being a strength, allowing this version to distance itself and be it’s own thing. It also isn’t somethnig sonic had done , just go fully comedy, since Adventures, so it was a nice throwback while still being it’s own thing, relying more on clever dialouge than slapstick. The result is a pretty good show: not the best, but still entertaning and unique.

And this episode is a PERFECT one to show that off. Like X it has a really bonkers premise.. but unlike X it’s not only not taking the premise remotely seriously, but uses it for a purpose: to take pot shots at pop muisc. Granted it can be uneven, a lot of the critisim comes across as paatronizing to pop music even if a lot of it is more packaging than content, but some jokes do really hit hard and the shows fast pacing means we’re onto the next joke before a bad one can really stink up.

As for the plot music sensation Justin Beaver is in town. And if I have one complaint it’s not using beiber, while he’s been a punching bag for decades he’s not only been relevant for that long, but has THROUGHLY brought it on himself after puberty with his hilariously broey apperance, some choicley terrible songs and somehow not having gone away. It’s that they base him on pre-bro beiber...several years AFTRE he radically changed his appearnce and demeanor, making that part of it come off outdated> I get they needed a pop star but they coudl’ve used one direction (still dated but not as dated) instead of parodying an act that not only had been parodied to death, but had changed entirely.

The other issue before I get to the good stuff is sexism: it assumes ONLY girls like boybands forgettnig boys of all sexualiteis can enjoy them too. I loved back stret boys as a kid and liked nsync kinda. I gladly watcched the high school musicals in high school... i’m not proud of that but it did give me the greatest musical number ever commited to film so it worked out

I swear if I could get away with it i’d refrence this thing EVERY review. It’s just sexist to assume it dosen’t work on men and it should honestly work on knuckles. It’s equally condsending to pop fans, saying rock is better. ANd rock is better but there is some great pop.. and some really terrible pop but still.

But it’s flaws are patched up by some things: While some of it’s critcisim is pretty surfacy, it’s in a show that’s not taking itself seroiusly, so it’s clearly just taking it to the broadest point and it DOES make actual points: how manufactured some of these acts are, the stupid names, the sparkly jackets.. seriously EVERY boy band has a sparkly jacket. It does enough right to counter what it gets wrong. It’s also just really funny so again, the bad takes are drowned out by our heroes being hilarious. The first few minutes alone had me wanting to go back and get tons of reactoin images because their just stuffed with great jokes, from the local reporter ranting about his daughter prefering justin beiber to him (”We’ll just see who pays for your private school instead of those golf clubs he really wanted”), to knuckles declaring his music the soundtrack to his nightmares, to knuckles dooting on a horn he literally pulled out of his ass to try and convince the backstage guy their in the music industry.

We also get plenty of fun with the guys boy band, dreamboat express who again have the sparkly jackets, moves and montages. We also get a great bit of sonci leading them somewhere else to finish his thought in cutaway, with tails wondering why that was necessary.. only to do it himself later and admit it’s fun. The episodes far from perfect but it’s so spot on in places and so damn funny for most of it, the villians also just happen to explain their plans which is lampshaded to hell and back, and with a perfect punchline for justin, this ep didn’t give me a lot to say but it is good. I recommend checking it out fi your curious about the series and it’s pairing ep tails crush, as tails trie sto woo a lady and robotnik tries to pick up a package. Good stuff.

So that was the review. Three fun episodes: one insane, one raelly good and one unabashidly silly. All fun.

Next: Knock knock i’ts knuckles.. and he has kind of a weenie voice.But he also has a werid ass dinosaur so it ballances out it’s sonic undergrounnnnnnddd and knuckles only animated apperance in the classic era with a one off intro and a three part epic.

Raphael x Fem!Reader

Reader is April's little sister and meets the turtles through her. I changed the ages and timeline a bit just because I don't feel entirely comfortable writing the turtles as 15 year old kids. SO the turtles are 18 the reader is 17 nearing 18 and april is 27.

Warnings: some mention of parent death, but nothing else!

Im still pretty new at writing fanfic and have only done a few and this is my very first tmnt one. Constructive criticism and nice things only please!

I didn't remember my dad. My mother gave birth to me a month before his death. I didn’t remember him but my big sister April did. She told me everything she could about him, all kinds of stories and old home videos. It's almost like I know him but I don’t. Sometimes it's sad and I wish for nothing more than to have some memories with him, but I’ve had a good life and have a great family. I’ve lived with my sister since our mom passed 2 years ago from cancer. I miss her a lot, but I like living with April and I love our apartment.

We both have a deep love for media. She is a reporter with Channel 6 and I started making youtube videos right around the time mom died. It was like a video diary back then and has since turned into something completely different, though there are the occasional personal diary type videos.

I was wearing my favorite oversized sweater. It was a deep forest green and nearly reached my knees. It was worn and a bit tattered in some places, but it was the coziest thing ever.. I was barefoot in the kitchen listening to April talking about the latest Foot Clan activity and thinking about the questions she was planning for some guy who worked on the docks. She had convinced her camera guy Vern to take her over there before they shot her morning segment.

“You’re gonna be late!” I called into the living room while putting some breakfastt in a container for her to take on the road.

“Thank you shorty,” She rushed in and gave me a kiss on the cheek as she grabbed her breakfast and rushed out of the kitchen again to grab her bag “I’ll either be back for dinner or late!”

“That's really specific April,” I mutter as a lean in the kitchen doorway and watch her check her purse. “Do you have your touchup bag and your toothbrush?”

April let out a small gasp and rushed back to the bathroom. She came back out with a bag, gathered her things and blew a kiss as she ran out the door. I let out a laugh and went to eat my own food.

I spent the day editing a new video. I just hit 700k last week so I was making a special video to celebrate. It had some songs that I had covered laid over a video of me painting a portrait of my mother and father. It was taken a year before he had died and they had gone on a weekend getaway in the Appalachian mountains.

I didn't look up until April burst through the door. It was already dark out and I hadn’t even noticed.

“I just witnessed a Foot Clan attack!” she called as she walked through the apartment.

“What? Oh my god! Are you okay?” I practically jumped up and followed her as she began pacing around the living room. “April? Are you okay?”

“I’m fine! There I was at the docks trying to get some answers and then BAM! They were there!” She went on about the attack and then started about some kind of vigilante that fought them off.

“Vigilante? Are you serious?” She didn't answer, she just went into her room. I sat back down on the couch and tried to process what she had said. In the end I shook it off and went get some dinner ready.

Over the next few days April was hard to find. She seemed to be constantly on the move and didn't answer her phone. She came home talking about dad's old experiments and giant turtles, and over the next 2 days seemed to just be gone. The spire on the Sacks building fell and The Shredder, who was the leader of the Foot Clan, was arrested and Eric Sacks was revealed to have been working alongside him the whole time. It was a wild time for New York, and April was suddenly quiet about the vigilantes.

Time began to move on and April started talking about these 4 new friends she had that were brothers. They seemed like a fun nice group, and the stories she shared were great.

“So,” I started as we sat together on the couch, “when do I get to meet the brothers?”

April choked on her glass of white wine. “What? Meet them?”

“Yeah, You talk about them all the time! I would like to meet them. They’re all you’ve been talking about for like 3 weeks.” I said as I pushed her with my foot.

“Ummm,” April stopped to think and had a vague look of concern on her face, “I'm not sure actually. They’re pretty busy guys.”

I narrowed my eyes at her. “Uh-huh. If you don't want me to meet them just say so. I was just curious.” I turn my face away from her.

“No it's not that, It's just they’re kinda shy. They don’t really like meeting people.” April's face said that she was telling a lie.

“Okay.” I left it at that clearly something is bugging her about me meeting her friends.

April-

April went to spend some time with the boys, but couldn’t stop thinking about them meeting her little sister. How would she react? She thought to herself, ‘I fainted when I met them, and there are still times when it kinda freaks me out a bit. I don’t want my baby sister to get scared and I don’t want the boys to get hurt because of it.’ They had tried to act like April’s reaction didn’t hurt them, but she knew it did. ‘I just want everyone to be happy.’ She was sitting in the lair watching the boys fight and Mikey brought up their Christmas pop album again. She smiled, (y/n) loved music and often performed covers on YouTube. She was really good at it. She had even written her own songs but at this point refused to release or talk about them on her channel.

“April, is something troubling you?” The brunette turned, surprised to see Master Splinter.

“Oh it’s nothing really.” She paused, “Actually could we talk? I am having some trouble.” Splinter nodded and gestured for her to follow. Not answering the questioning looks of the brothers, they went into Hashi.

“The boys avoid this room as much as possible,” Splinter said with a chuckle, “they will not listen in in here.”

“Makes sense,” April laughed and sat down on a mat with Splinter while looking at the odd structures in the room, “I’m having some trouble with my sister.”

“Oh yes, little (y/n) she had only just been born. I believe your father brought her down to the lab twice in those last weeks.” He thought back fondly on the small soft baby that looked so tiny in the arms of her father but so big compared to him then. “ what is it that is wrong?”

“She wants to meet the brothers. She doesn’t know that they are turtles, but she knows I have new friends.” April said looking down, “ we are very open. We’re the only family we have left so we always know each other's friends. It’s a safety thing I guess.”

Master Splinter hummed and looked at April, who continued.

“She wants to meet them and honestly I want her to too! I think they would all get along so well and I think the boys would adore her. It would also be nice to know that there are 4 ninjas who would look out for her.” April sighed and looked up at the ceiling.

“I just don’t want the boys to get hurt. What if she is afraid of them? What if she screams and calls them monsters or freaks? What if she passes out or cries. It would hurt them so much, and I don’t want to see my sister frightened anyway.” April’s shoulders slumped and she lowered her face to look across at Splinter.

“You know your sister well? Do you think she will react this way?” The rat questioned.

“I don’t know. This isn’t exactly a situation that has ever come up before or one I ever thought I would be in.” She played with her fingers in her lap and she watched him stroke his beard.

“I think you know your sister well and know what would be the best course of action.” He smiled, “I think the trouble now will be convincing the boys to risk meeting her. I have no doubt that it will be a split crowd.”

April nodded and gave a kind of exasperated smile. She knew exactly what he was talking about. Mikey and Ralph would agree, Donnie was iffy, but Leo would say no.

“Thank you Splinter. That does actually help. Do you mind if I stay in here a bit longer?” She asked.

“Go ahead child. Take your time.” Splinter got up and left the Hashi.

April sat and thought about what he had said. She thought back to everything she knew about her sister and what she knew of the boys. If her sister could be accepting she knew that they could have a great friendship. The boys were half a year older than her and they didn't know anyone their age. It would be nice for them to have that she thought. She knew Mikey would be super friendly right away, maybe even too friendly. Donnie would be polite but wary at first and a bit excited. Raph would be happy just to meet another person, but Leo would be cold. She feared that he would be distant and unapproachable and she knew her sister well enough to know she wouldn't be able to handle that.

She took her time and eventually rejoined the brothers. She brushed off their questions with a simple: “I needed advice.” She sat down with them as they all talked and joked around. Finally Donnie brought up the perfect opportunity.

“April you're lucky you don't have brothers.” He said as Mikey bombarded him with insane ideas for gadgets.

“Well I don't have any brothers but I do have a baby sister.” The turtles all turned towards her clearly shocked by this news. “She's actually about 4 months from turning 18.”

“Woah Angelcakes, We didn't know you had a lil’ sis. Is she as beautiful as you?” Mikey said while batting his eyes at her.

“I think she is absolutely gorgeous, and she sings and does art. She’s about to be a senior in high school.” April said while leaning closer to mikey. “Shes shorter than me and has curves for days. She used to be on the dance team actually.” April laughed and Mikey threw himself back and fanned himself with his hand.

“Why haven't you mentioned her?” Leo asked.

“You never asked if I had any siblings. She was born a few weeks before my dad died.” April smiled sadly at that “She actually asked if she could meet you.”

The boys seemed to freeze at that, and suddenly all eyes were on her.

“You told about us?”. Raph asked.

“Kinda. I might have left out the part about being ninja turtles, but I told her about my new friends and she wants to meet you guys.” Raph scoffed at her answer.

“So you didn't actually tell her about us.” He almost snapped at her.

“Cool it Raph.” leo warned.

“I don't wanna be looked at like a freak. She won't want to meet us when she sees us.” he stood up and walked off. April looked at the others who all looked like they wanted to disagree and agree with Raph at the same time.

“Sorry angelcakes, I'm sure baby angelcakes is great though.” Mikey shrugged.

April sat in disbelief that they all basically said no. The lair was quiet after that and she left after they ate some dinner.

She got home only to remember her sister was spending the night at her friends house. So she had the place all to herself. She let out a sigh and poured herself a tall glass of wine and sat on the couch thinking about the events of the day. She came up with a plan as she finished her cup and decided that by the end of the week they boys will have met her baby sister. She grabbed her phone and invited the boys to come hang out at her place for once this upcoming weekend. They didn't even ask if her sister would be there.

April had gone out to pick up some pizza for a late night dinner. I had school, homework, and some video editing to do and forgot to cook. April came home late and said not to worry about it and would grab some pizza. Her new favorite place didn’t offer delivery so she went to go get it. I decided that a nice hot shower sounded good and went in. I got out as I heard the front door open and close. I made my way to my room about to throw on my favorite green sweater only to remember that It had been washed and was in the dryer. So, I wrapped my towel back around me and opened my door to head out into the living room. I walked out and looked up only to meet with 4 pairs of eyes.

“Oh my bad,” I said, turning to go back to my room only to stop and turn right back around. “Ummmm…” I trailed off not sure what to say as I stared at 4 very large, very green, oddly human like turtles, all while in a bath towel that left most of my left hip exposed.

“Oh hi (y/n). I forgot to mention I had friends coming over.” April said walking into the room. “You might wanna put some clothes on though.”

“Yeah…” I said not able to look away from the very large turtle creatures sitting in the living room.

Hmmm. Well, I lead a rather boring life with shit self esteem, so I really don’t look ahead much these days because it keeps me from being too disappointed. Hm. But I’m gonna try to make this a positivity post, because you were so kind to me and I think it’s good to try to think positively sometimes.

Hmm. Five things I’m (eventually) looking forward to:

Getting my purple sofa from IKEA. I’ve wanted this stupid sofa for a year now and I just... haven’t gotten around to buying it yet. This would be the opportune time to get it though... I’m home so I wouldn’t have to take time off for delivery... I just don’t have anyone to help me build it. That and I’m a tightwad, but I know I want this sofa, and I usually wait a bit to spend that kind of money on stuff to make sure I want it before I buy it. I want it. A lot.

Getting my own place that’s not a shit apartment with annoying neighbours. I’ve been saving up for 10 years for a condo of my own; I can use my RSPs as a down payment (in Canada, you can open up RSPs and take it out early if it’s for first-time home ownership OR second education). I have enough for a down payment, but again, it comes down to... I’m a tight wad, I HATE spending that kind of money. But I know I’d be happier in a place that I’m not renting from shitty landlords.

My eventual Christmas Trip to Disney. For my fortieth year, I wanted to make a big Christmas trip to DisneyWorld; I even opened up a savings account so I would have enough to go in a year and a half. I’ve always wanted to go at Christmas, and it’s been a long time since I last went. I even convinced my sister to come with me. Then COVID happened. That plan has been put on the back-burner for an indeterminable time; at the rate the US can’t fucking get their shit together, it’s looking like at least 4 years until I can. I am NOT crossing the border to go to COVIDWorld, thanks. So for now, it’s a dream trip, that maybe I’ll do for my 50th instead, 45th if they clean up their act.

Seeing my friends again, whether they’re my real life ones or my 221B crew, I really miss everyone terribly. Also in this, seeing my sister again. I haven’t seen her in 2 years; this summer was supposed to be our big Road Trip Summer, annnnnnnnd COVID. Jess and I are super close, and I try to see her at least once a year; last year I couldn’t because I worked all summer, and this year it was COVID, so yeah. Sad. I miss everyone. I’ve seen my K-Town friends on my 3 weeks off, so that was nice. Just a pain that all my close friends live far away.

Publishing ONE of the 6 fanfics I’ve been drafting for years. I constantly, when I can’t blog, or watch TV or draw, I just write little pockets of fanfics that one day will be finished, if I can stop starting new ones. 2 Sherlock, a TMNT one, and continuing with my Sonic series I never finished in my youth. THEN I got into Red Dwarf again and I plotted out 2 more stories; one of them is near done. I just can’t get the filler bits in any of them. I write all the good stuff LOL. Ugh. I love writing, I’m just... not popular enough for people to care so I guess the motivation has never gripped me. It’s just a hobby / stress relief for me, and not a serious thing, so I just do it when I feel like it. I draw most of my free time.

Review: Rise of the Turtles part 1 (TMNT 2012)

I know, I know I promised to post this during summer but instead I ended up editing my TMNT 2012 fanfiction. I ended up having some technical difficulties with this post. I did watch the episode but somehow all the screen shots I took just vanished. My guess is some form of Windows update happened and poof, all screen shots were gone.

I actually just got the first season on DVD yesterday – I finally ordered it online three or so weeks ago, I’ve been looking for Finnish release of the show ever since 2014 when it started to air in Finland but we got nothing. Not that I minded, the dub was decent but definitely lot worser than the dub 2003 series got from the group called Dubberman. So I’m more than happy to have the UK release of the first season.

Firstly I’d like to address one thing: I was hesitant to watch this show because I don’t like CGI that much anymore since it’s everywhere these days, but I was interested in it after scrolling some Turtlepedia especially after I saw one of my absolute favorite character from the 2003 show, April. When I read about Donnie’s crush on her, I recalled their relationship in the 2003 series – seeing Donatello and April interact was one of my favorite things about the show so naturally I was interested to see how well 2012 series pulled that off. Then I had this boring weekend and I decided to give it a try. I did and absolutely loved the show, I loved the turtles, I loved what they did with Splinter, I even loved this one character I thought I wouldn’t, what I didn’t love however was April – instead Karai became my favorite character.

But we get to that when we get to that. Let’s start this thing!

Like with the previous post I’m not going to do full plot summary here, instead I’m doing this brief summary. If you are interested in full summary please go to sites like Turtlepedia for that!

Now this episode starts similarly to the 2003 series. We are introduced to our main characters as they are in training session. It turns out the turtles are celebrating their fifteenth birthday today and wish to go top side for the first time even though Splinter is hesitant to let them go. Eventually he does and the turtles get to see the what the world looks like outside sewers. It seems to be full of wonder… and dangers. Turtles witness a family of two, father and daughter getting kidnapped by a group of identical men, but are unable to rescue them due to their inability to work as a team. And Mikey finds out those men weren’t exactly human… but no one believes him. The group returns to the lair and they get scolded by Splinter for letting the kidnappers getting away because they couldn’t work as a team – then again, he does admit it’s partially his fault as he never trained them to fight as a team. While Splinter suggest they have another year to wait until their next visit to the top side, Donnie isn’t having it as he wants to save the poor kidnapped girl, he fell in love with at the first sight. After some convincing Splinter agrees to let them go and save her. Before they go however Splinter makes Leonardo their leader – the group does need a leader in order to function correctly after all, but as to why he chose Leo, isn’t clear. So, to the back side we go, after some time they manage to find one of the kidnappers and chase him until his car falls over. When Raph opens up the back door to the car a mysterious cannister filled with green ooze rolls over – looking a lot like the one broken cannister the turtles have in their lair, the one that had something to do with their current forms. And with that the first episode ends.

What I liked about the episode

+ Turtles actually acting like teenagers. I don’t think we have seen that in any other incarnation despite the show being called “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.

+ What they did with Leo’s personality. I was so used to Leo being this perfect serious leader who’d win any training session against Raph, seeing Leo actually losing against Raph not to mention having this kind of geeky awkward side to his character was refreshing to see.

+ Master Splinter. I liked how he looked nothing like his former counterparts, I loved how they brought up his personality and most of all now he actually felt like a caring father to the turtles instead of being just their teacher. Not to mention how cool his design looks in this show!

+ The plot in general. For a pilot episode it did good job at presenting our four main characters, showing they, each have different personalities without spending too much on that. It had this sense of wonder when we see the turtles discovering the world for the first time. And there was action included as well but not in a way that our heroes just swoop in and save the day, I liked the fact they messed it up on their first try. I also liked how the episode didn’t end with turtles saving the day but rather with a cliff hanger because that would get viewers to want to catch the next episode – unlike 2003 series where it just ended, personally I wouldn’t have waited to see the next episode, unlike with this 2012 show.

+ Interaction and comedy between the turtles was well done, I definitely did have some laughs here and there.

+ The way flashbacks and ending stills are done in this version. What can I say? I just love the comic book style they went with!

What I didn’t like about this episode

- Well in general I liked this episode fine; it really didn’t have much to complain about, characters were solid, their backstory was solid, story was solid and the action was solid. Over all I’d say it’s a good episode. But if I had to pick one thing I did not like; it would be the way April was presented. Unlike the turtles she didn’t seem like a character, just a pretty girl shown to our faces who needed to be saved. I know that’s how it was intended but if I’d have to pick one thing I didn’t like about the episode, this would be it.

And now let’s say few words about the dub my country eventually got...

When this series finally started to air in Finland you better believe I got up every Sunday to watch this show, not because I hadn’t seen it, it was January 2014, I had already seen the episodes couple of times in English but I wanted to check out the dubbed version especially after seeing the voice cast. Just by looking at the voices seemed like this dub would go either way. It could be good or really bad. Like with seasons 3-4 and 6-7 of TMNT 2003 a group called Dubberman. And I wasn’t completely trusting for the fact they would do the show justice. I mean they did skip over the season 5 in 2003 series – and later season 3 in 2012 series so…

The dub was decent, not great, not the worst we could have gotten but decent. There were some errors like they called Raphael “Rafaello” or “Rafa” for short like in the dubbed VHS/DVD release of 1980 series – luckily, they stopped doing that after few episodes because it bothered me a lot. Another thing was how those Japanese phases were pronounced – in this episode by Leo. They didn’t sound right at least when you compare to the original version.

The voice cast was okay. It consisted of some familiar and great voice actors like Jon-Jon Geitel as Leo who has also voiced characters like Jack Frost from the Rise of the guardians or Jake Long from American Dragon: Jake Long – I think this is where I first heard his voice acting. More recently he voiced Aladdin in the live action version from 2019. Another familiar voices we had were Aksu Palmén as Donatello who had voiced characters like Hiccup in How to train your dragon, and Markus Bäckman as Master Splinter – It’s better I won’t go in too much details on his voicing career because he has done a lot of good voice acting in TV and Disney movies. These two were probably the most suited for their roles. Especially Markus Bäckman as Splinter. He sounded just right for the part. Then there was Henri Piispanen who I hadn’t heard much voice acting from before TMNT. I think he was solid pick for Raph – not as good as Sean Astin but they could have gone for worse. Then there were couple unknown actors Miro Loopperi who voiced Mikey and Ella Jaakkola who voiced April.

Miro Looperi did fine job as Mikey but he didn’t really sound like him. This reminds me of 2003 series as Mikey had a voice actor in the Finnish dub that I liked, but one that didn’t sound like him when compared his original voice. This has the same feeling to it. And now Ella Jaakkola, she had this high-pitched kind of bitchy voice I found annoying but at the same time I thought it kind of worked for April’s character because I knew what would become of her character in season 2. I remember thinking: “I can’t wait to hear this voice in Mutation Situation!” – Too bad they changed her voice for season 2.

Now, don’t expect me to do this thing for all the episodes where I talk a little bit about the Finnish dub as I’ve only seen the first season dubbed – I don’t even know when season 2 aired. And I don’t have many notes about the dub. Nor do I remember much of it. I have notes for I think five or so episodes and very good memory for Karai’s debut episode but that’s about it. As I said earlier so far now DVD releases have been made in Finland so I would only have access through streaming services to seasons 4 and 5 – which I haven’t even watched completely yet. I can only hope Netflix or Viaplay would upload the dubbed versions of TMNT to their servers but as we lack DVD releases or reruns of seasons 1 and 2 and season 3 in general that’s very unlikely.

I gotta to be honest but Darren's career path is making me question a lot of things. He just came from a full awards season and not a single new tv show/movie has him cast on it. He is back doing random shows and going on questionable gossip shows on e!online. I really hope he doesn't become one of those actors who only work with Ryan Murphy. It was his chance to become an A Lister in Hollywood.

I don’t know if you are a tinhat, a troll, or just someone drama-creating, but this is a PSA to literally every anon ever in my inbox which inevitably fills up with nonsense like this when Darren goes two weeks without announcing a major project…

This is ridiculous. Not based in reality.

Darren isn’t “back to doing random shows” - PSA - Darren LOVES doing random shows. He does them when he is on BIG things like Versace, between big things (like between Hedwig and Versace) and involved in little things. I am sure he also makes a pretty penny doing them and good for him - He’s musically prolific and he fucking loves it. There literally isn’t a time in Darren’s career where he hasn’t been playing shows. He will do it for wine people and charities and fashion people and for his own self and his own music (which he also loves). God bless and thank that Darren loves playing shows.

“Going on gossip shows” - lmao - Give me a break (you must be a tinhat) - Becca is a friend who also works with Ricky his manager and he was happy to oblige her and have some fun with his friends Becca and Keltie (who has supported him for years). They were literally quoted saying he did them a favour when he didn’t have to. Your memory must be short because literally Darren was EW’s Entertainer of the Year like 2 months ago…One of the loveliest things about Darren is he does it all - He will give interviews everywhere, isn’t snobby about it (take a page from his book, anon) and again - bless us because yay!

I mean, since Versace, Darren has opened a rockin’ piano bar, filmed a supporting role in Midway, a blockbuster movie set for release in November, and voiced Raphael in the upcoming TMNT flick. But I guess if you haven’t seen it yet, it doesn’t count?

To quote Darren himself in December 2018 - “The majority of the things that I work on are things that we don’t see yet, or I’ve yet to talk about, but there are a lot of fun things in the pipeline that I’m very, very excited about and hopefully we can talk about them next time.”

And Ryan Murphy has teased casting him in something. But you’re right, anon, wouldn’t it be a shame if Darren had a Ryan Murphy centred career like Sarah Paulson - one of Ryan Murphy’s mainstays? Disaster, really.

So I finally watched ep 1 of Critical Role! I was wondering what got you into it and how long you’ve been a fan? Have you been watching it from the beginning or did you start it later on?

Yay!!!! Ah my gosh i’m so happy!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉 Welcome to the nerdy fandom! ;D Omg girl, ok full discloser beforehand, i’d been making this MASSIVE list of CR stuff for you (like a guide to watching it; where to find stuff, links to videos, etc) but then super recently i saw @loveisalwayswise had already done that so i was just gonna link and give a really nerdy intro for the show in general. I swear i didn’t forget to respond! ;P If you still want to see her Tumblr post A Guide to Critical Role there you go (it’s so very in-depth and it’ll really helps you navigate around things, find stuff you might be interested in, helpful tips on where to start, highly recommend).

So i started watching CR roughly a year or so ago. Tumblr was the one who introduced me, cause before then I didn’t know virtually anything about it, other than it was a D&D livestream that had the most talented artists i’ve ever come across making drop-dead stunning fan art that kept popping up on my dash (the first might have been one of Jester or Caleb and it was stunning).

I did a little googling to learn more, and actually it was after the responses from this post i made that got me to finally dig deeper. My friend who i found out also loves Critical Role told me where i could watch it all on YouTube, and low n behold i already knew basically everyone from it already?!

Matt Mercer was my man Levi Ackerman/Joker/Silver Fullbuster/etc. Travis Willingham aka Thor in every animated Marvel show/Mori-Senpai/Roy-freaking-Mustang. Laura Bailey the queen who’s Lust/Kanako Kasugazaki/Tohru Honda. Sam Riegel voice actor from my childhood (i grew up on TMNT so it blew my mind)!!!

I’ll stop now but the list just goes on for all of them. :P

It was crazy! And it wasn’t just them that made it worth staying. The way Matt spins his descriptions, paints such a vivid picture in your mind (and actually ALL OF THEM do it) it’s almost spellbinding. You just sit there wanting to hear more, to see it all. He puts so much hard work and love into it every week and it really shows. The cast is enthralled every time he describes someplace/thing and so is the audience.

So needless to say i was hooked. ;D

I think i started somewhere early on in Campaign 2 (like 5th ep in?), but also went backwards to check out Campaign 1, since that’s where the majority of art i’d seen was derived. And i’m STILL making my way through C1 (there’s A LOT of episodes holy cannoli) while also being up to date watching C2. The Briarwood arc from C1 is by far and wide my favorite arc and one of the first i watched from start to finish. I’d 1000% recommend there as a starting point. Its the first time they really delve deep into one of the characters backstory and overall it’s just so intense and fantastic you’ll want to stay even tho the video quality is in it’s meh stage, cause they were still new to streaming live (i can set you up with links for that too).

And i’ve even started playing D&D myself with some friends! I’ve only done a couple sessions but it’s so much fun i have a blast each time we get together (and creating a character i get to embody–where i choose their life, their background, how that background effects their personality and how they interact with others, that you can’t be careless cause each choice has consequences makes it so much more intense).

It’s become the highlight of my week (Is it Thursday yet?!?!) and idk just always manages to lift my spirits no matter what. :)

So, I got tagged to do this... twice. I answered all their questions, and call me a party pooper, but I’m not going to continue the game by coming up with 11 questions of my own and tagging 11 people ;)

1. Where do you get your ideas?

Depends. Usually, I watch movies, TV shows, read books (or fanfictions) and think either “I like this plot and want to spin-off it” or “this sucks but I like this one thing about it so I’m going to fix it.” Other times, I’ll see a piece of fan art that sparks a story. Occasionally, Pinterest Prompts or song lyrics spark something, but it’s not as common.

2. What is your writing process like, and What do you love most about it?

I come up with an idea, mull it over to the point I think I have an idea of how I want the story to go, then I write it. No plotting. No writing out character sheets or planning boards or anything complicated. I love that it’s simple and I can basically get started immediately.

3. How many hours a day do you write?

Lately, it has been 0 hours because health stuff is whooping my butt. But I like to average 1-2 hours a day. Preferably closer to 2.

4. Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

I usually write whatever I want to read, but I’ve heard readers comments and liked them and changed my stories because of that.

5. What made you want to become a writer?

… I like writing. *shrug*

6. What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author, and What has been the best compliment?

*Blows out air, cheeks puffed out* Um… I… don’t know. I do tend to start observing certain things in my work if pointed out, such as if I see a post that mentions “Don’t let your characters have the same voice” or a comment saying my sentences are too similar in structure, I will become hyper-sensitive to that in my writing. I don’t think I’ve had any “harsh” criticism that was actually criticism and not people just being jerks.

Best compliment… I’ve one along the lines of “Your stuff is on par or better than published novels,” which was AWESOME and the best one I can think of right now. 😊

7. Does writing energize or exhaust you?

If I’m feeling good, it is a neutral activity: nothing gained, nothing lost.

If I’m tired (like as of late) it’s exhausting.

8. What’s your goal of certain # of words a week or when inspiration strikes?

I don’t usually have a word goal. Normally, it’s “I have a week to finish this so I better get this story/chapter done but I’ll procrastinate as much as I can before I do”.

9. What advice do you have for writers?

I think there’s a lot of contradictory advice out there for writers. Screw most of it and just find what works best for you. There are certain rules you need to abide by (grammar rules, for example) but for the most part, write what you want to read and write however you want to write it. After enough time, you’ll learn what works and what doesn’t. There will be pieces of advice that cause you to focus on parts of your writing and get you thinking if something needs to change, but don’t take all advice as law.

10. How do you work past writer’s block?

Usually, I need to walk away at this point and get back to it later. Very rarely can I power through.

Writer’s block is caused by one of two things. The first being my mental capacity to sit and write. This is solved by walking away and returning later. However, if it caused by frustration with the storyline, I backtrack. This means going back one/two/five pages and finding a good launch point to rewrite everything in a way that leads me more toward where I’m trying to go with the end. But the worst block is caused by a plot point I have already published and is basically law yet is causing me trouble. This means I have some serious fudging to do and it’s hard and usually sucks and can take days to pass, even if it only results in a single page.

11. If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

Hmm… go to the doctor now because you’ll be sick at my age and writing with health issues ranges from “serious suckage” to “downright near impossible.”

1. Is there a work of fan fiction you wish you wrote? Why?

I was going to answer no, but there’s two. One called “Lore of the Land” and the reason I wish I wrote it is because it’s been abandoned for nearly two years now and I would have finished it.

There’s another I can’t remember the name of, but I was obsessively following this story and in a single chapter, the author completely and totally RUINED it, and I want to take it out of their hands and beat them over the head for being OOC in an otherwise fantastically written story.

2. Do you have a go-to writing playlist? What songs are on it?

I used to (I don’t often write to music any more), and it was my Pandora “Philip Westly” station filled with, well, Philip Westly, Ryan Stewart, Jennifer Thomas, Michele McLaughlin, Brain Crain, Helen Jane Long, and a bunch of other “New Age Classical” music. (I can’t write with words going on or else I start writing the lyrics)

3. Do you have any rituals you do before writing?

No. I don’t.

4. Describe your writing space.

Left side of the blue couch in my living room. 50-50 split between leg rest up and down. Little wooden side table where my computer is kept. There is a plushy Golden Retriever named Jack that sits on the top edge of the couch and looks over my shoulder as I’m writing. Occasionally, my cat will decide to hang out with me, meaning he jumps up and tries to lay on my keyboard until I kick him off and tell him no and he relents but sulks next to me.

5. Where do you get your inspiration?

I answered above 😉

6. Do you outline or figure out your stories as you go?

I fly by the seat of my pants. As long as I know where I want to end up and have a rough idea how to get there, I’m golden.

7. What was the first story you ever wrote?

Um… Story landmarks time.

First story I wrote was a series of one-page stories about a cat, dog, and horse that were spies and fought off the evil Al. E. Gator and his henchman, Pork. E. Pig. My sixth-grade teacher found these amazing.

Some years later, I started a novel that I didn’t finish until after I posted my first fanfiction, which would be one called “Swimming Lesson” and is on deviantart for TMNT; you can find it if you so dare. It is amazing how far I’ve come.

Then I finished Escaping the Tyrant and published it, which as been a pride of mine ever since. 😊

8. Do you have a go-to fix when you’re stuck on a story?

One: put my earbuds in and find a song I can listen to on repeat for ten-twenty minutes as I pace a rut into the floor.

Two: two browsers open, Youtube on the left side playing something while I browse pinterest/tumblr/something else on the right.

9. Do you use betas? Why or why not?

I don’t usually because (and I don’t mean to sound cocky) but I’m pretty good at writing and self-editing most of the time. The other reason is because half of my stuff isn’t finished until a day before posting and betas need time to work and I’m terrible at giving them enough time to do so.

10. How long does it usually take you to write a story from start to finish?

A one-shot usually takes a week. A multi chapter story is a week per chapter plus an extra week or two because I fell behind/needed a break.

11. Why writing?

I like stories, and sadly, with increasing frequency, people can’t tell good ones, meaning I have to fix it. And I don’t care how sassy that is. It’s true.

Thundercats Roar thoughts...

So a friend of mine showed me this trailer a few weeks ago, and for a second I didn’t believe it was real. But, before I get further into my thoughts on this thing everybody else on the internet has already covered, let me go into my history with Thundercats.

Despite never drawing much fan art for the series, Thundercats is a property I love, and one of the biggest parts of my life in my earliest years. Born in ‘86 with three older siblings, I was just in time for the original Thundercats. My family already consisted of die-hard fans, so it was naturally one of the first franchises I got into. From the time I was born to when I was about 4, Masters of the Universe and Thundercats were what it was all about. It wasn’t until ‘89 that I got my first TMNT toy, and about a year later that was literally all I cared about.

But before my TMNT obsession, there was Thundercats. While I do have many fond memories of watching the show, my most beloved memories of it are simply being a fan. Collecting the action figures, listening to my siblings talk about the show, and playing Thundercats. Not a video game, though. On nights when my Mom was out, my Dad would host He-Man or Thundercats games where he’d be either Skeletor or Mumm-ra, my oldest sister and brother would be She-Ra and He-Man or Lion O and Cheetarah (while my other sister would be... somebody) and I, being the baby, would always get stuck being Orko or Snarf. All us kids would wrestle our dad and beat up on him as he’d try to defeat us. Epic stuff. Some how the younger of my two sisters would usually end up horribly injured after each game, though...

Simply put, Thundercats was the real deal with my family when I was little. The action was great, the evil beasts were awesome, the toys were a blast, and Cheetarah, along with the He-Man girls, made me feel things my tiny self wasn’t yet ready to feel.

It wasn’t until I was in high school that I revisited the show, and, honestly, I was surprised how much it held up. Especially considering in high school I was “too cool for everything” yet I still acknowledged its quality. Yes, it was corny in the way all old children's’ shows were at the time (I have nothing but love for that tone, but I can see how it would be hard to digest for later generations), but it still had great, smart, sophisticated writing for its time, amazing animation and artwork, good characters, and one of the most hype intros ever.

In 2011 a reboot was made. This reboot was far darker and more built on political commentary. It was an understandable progression. The fans had grown up, so the franchise did too. While I wasn’t a huge fan, I can respect the quality of the writing, art, and over all work that went into it. It was a sophisticated piece of art. I felt it went a bit too extreme with the tone it was pushing, and as a long time fan of the original, found lots of the changes and design choices hard to digest. But again, it was a good show, and I respect what it attempted to accomplish.

However, the show was canceled before season 2 could air. This left a lot of fans mad, confused as to whether it was low ratings, low ratings as a result of its switched time slot that was far from ideal, or just a business decision to sacrifice a popular show just to make way for a potentially more popular future show. While I can understand the upset from fans 100%, I didn’t feel it as I wasn’t a regular viewer.

So, fast-forward to earlier this month when my friend shows me this trailer. As I said, at first I thought it was a joke, like College Humor or something. Then when the realization sunk in that it was real, I hated it. But, quickly I told myself that I don’t know enough about it yet to fully judge. I haven’t seen an episode. Sure, it looks awful from what I’ve seen, and I can clearly see the “monkey see monkey do” going on here with the copying of other successful modern cartoons. But, again, I haven’t seen it. Before I get into my final thoughts thus far, I need to address the elephant in the room...

...the similarities everybody has seen in this and Teen Titans GO!

While I wasn’t a die hard or anything, I did watch the entire first two seasons of the original Cartoon Network Teen Titans series when it was new, and I did like it. I thought it was very well-written, well-acted, had great characters, great character development, great stories, and great action. The characters worked off of each other beautifully. However, I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I had some issues with it.

UNPOPULAR OPINIONS AHEAD - PREPARE TO HATE ME

Since its release I have always found the art style to look very under-developed and unappealing. It looked like an awkward imbalance of the (already bland in my mind) Justice League cartoon style and a newbie anime style. The best way I can describe it was it resembled the artwork of a junior-high kid who just started drawing anime. Also, I found a lot of the anime-inspired elements to feel forced. When characters would mutate into chibi disasters or tropes like sweat drops scrolling down their faces would happen, it was always a bit cringy and out of place. It felt like it was shoehorned in rather than rightfully fitting in.

But the most notable thing about the show was it was a pretty huge departure from the original DC comics. Gone was the realistic art style of the comics. Now the characters all had big, round heads, twig-like limbs, huge hands and feet, and big anime-eyes. Everything was very simplistic, sharp, and jagged. There was far more comedy, some great, and some that cringy chibi stuff I mentioned. The integration of anime tropes and far more kid humor was a huge departure from the comics. So, basically, despite being a good show, Teen Titans, the show, was a huge departure from its source material.

Then comes Teen Titans GO! and overnight it becomes one of the most hated (and most popular) cartoons of this age. I didn’t quite hate it, but wrote it off as crap without seeing it. It is a shame that the original show was canceled before it got to be finished, but putting fans’ anger towards that aside, the creation of TTG makes perfect sense. The characters proved extremely popular and marketable, largely because how comedic they could be when bouncing off each other (and the original show had been canceled. Continuing a canceled show years later is a difficult task, regrouping the team, dancing through the legal BS, and finding enough staff and people to fund it to be on board, as well as a network to accept it). More simplistic art styles were becoming more popular, and after the post-Adult Swim days, hyper, wacky, odd comedies have become the norm.

To be honest, any time I have seen Teen Titans GO!, which has only been about three episodes or so, I laughed. I don’t care what people say, the show is legitimately funny. Is it the greatest show ever? Not by a long shot. Is it better than the last TT show? Probably not. Is it a shame it exists while the original never finished? Kinda. But is it a bad show? Honestly, no.

TTG knows exactly what it wants to be and delivers. It may not be the sequel show old fans wanted, but if you put aside the hatred, you’ll see it’s not only a funny cartoon bursting with energy and very well-defined and appealing character designs reminiscent of shows like Dexter’s Lab, but also a huge love letter to the Titans, the last show, and all things DC. It is clearly made by DC fans. I may be biased because I love Weird Al and The Golden Girls, but, man, this is funny right here:

Admittedly, even the movie trailer looks funny, and I’ll likely see it, despite not really being a fan of the show. Just like the 2011 Thundercats, I see what the TTG team is intending to do, and I appreciate how well they do it, despite not being a regular supporter of it.

And, well, that brings us back to ‘Roar’. Will I like it? Based on what I’ve seen so far, likely not, but who knows. It could end up being the next Sonic Boom. I do strongly dislike the art direction for Thundercats Roar, and the footage shown thus far did not make me laugh (except Mumm-ra learning about the cats being on Third Earth by reading it in the newspaper. That actually got a chuckle from me). But, as much as my gut is telling me to hate this show, I won’t pass judgment until I’ve at least seen a couple episodes. It’s definitely not the Thundercats I love, but to be honest, I didn’t want a TC reboot. I was fine with it just being as it is. So if somebody’s going to reboot it for a new generation, I’ll be glad to see my favorite franchises get passed down, so long as it is done lovingly. If the show truly is a love letter to the history of the franchise as it claims to be, and if it’s a decently quality product that obvious care went into, I’ll be fine with it.

It would be so easy to tear it apart and hate it, but as I get older I find myself growing more accepting of such change. I’m not EXPECTING to like it, but who knows, I also wasn’t expecting to like Sonic Boom. Basically, so far I’m not digging what I’ve seen, but I’ll keep an open mind and stay hopeful. Here’s hoping they can change my mind with the final product.

In honor of asexual awareness week, let’s take a look at Mikey. And please, feel free to ask me more about him, or ask him questions directly that I’ll answer in character.

1) What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)? I actually set out to make Mikey ace. I was sorting some things out about myself at the time, and he was my way of going about it. I knew he would be a serpent, and that being sex repulsed in such a sex-centered society would be a pretty big issue for him. (Don’t worry though, he’s got an excellent support group of friends and family that love him.)

2) How did you choose their name?

Okay, so, you’re not gonna believe this, but Mikey and his brother/boyfriend Donnie are indeed both named after the Ninja Turtles shut up I love old school tmnt 3) How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?

Mikey is only dubiously canon anyways. Or rather, I think he exists in a time well after established Asylum canon, and maybe even a little past Asylum TNG? I’ve... done a lot of world building... 4) What is your favorite fact about your OC?

I love that he’s so open to figuring himself out. He’s tried on so many IDs, just to see what fits, and I love that he’s not scared to keep trying. He’s such a brave little guy. 5) If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be? He’s super aura sensitive, so you have to think about what the people around him are doing/thinking/feeling, aaaaand.... he is a cuddle slut. His body language is very important to write thoughtfully. 6) Is there any significance behind their height? I made Mikey short, because guys don’t often get to be short. 7) Is there any significance behind their hair color? Yes, actually. Mikey is a white serpent, so that fact shows in his very fair coloring. 8) Is there any significance behind their eye color? Same as above. It’s a marker of his magic/heritage. 9) In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts? Being a white serpent is critical. If he wasn’t, he wouldn’t be bonded to Donnie to help keep him level. And if serpents weren’t so strange about what is and isn’t sexually acceptable, neither Donnie nor Mikey would have half the issues they do. The entire interplay between acceptable serpent culture, acceptable horse culture, acceptable hyena culture, and the weird melting pot that is Asylum makes Mikey’s story possible. He and Donnie would both just be closeted and miserable without the unique circumstances of their situations. 10) What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?

His questioning. I’ve never thought of myself as asexual, but I’ve gone through periods of super low sex drive, and I’m pretty sure I’m some kind of aro, though it’s really hard for me to tell. Mikey is kind of the opposite. He’s super romantic, to the point of pushing romantic relationships way past his physical/sexual comfort zone in an effort to please his partner--whether they’ve asked him too or not. We both have a bad habit of suffering for our loved ones, without realizing that hurting ourselves makes our loved ones sad. We’re dumb like that. 11) Are they based off of you, in some way?

Definitely. Mikey is exactly who I would be in his situation (if that makes any sense). I crafted the character scenario, then put myself in those shoes and wrote his reactions accordingly. As I said, he was my way of sorting through those feelings. 12) Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?

Yup. It was kind of the whole point :P 13) What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)? I am crap at visualizing my characters. I know he is small and pale, but that’s it. I probably couldn’t draw him if I tried. 14) What is something about your OC that can make you laugh?

Some of things he says are just outrageous--they even take me for surprise sometimes! 15) What is something about your OC that can make you cry? I feel so bad for him when he gets frustrated. It hurts me to watch him hurt, to struggle with accepting his limits. 16) Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?

Not regret exactly? But I worry. I don’t know if I’m writing his aceness right, if it’s okay for him to self identify as a gay ace, if his story is acceptable for an ace audience (he tries to have sex A LOT before he figures out its just not for him) and just ugh, all kinds of things. I’ll probably never publish his story cause I’m just so unsure of it. 17) What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC? It’s been a minute since I’ve worked with Mikey. I think most recently.... I discovered that he’s into photography. 18) Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?

Yup. His story is inexorably linked with his brother/boyfriends, Donnie and Ronan.

Aphrodite V #2 is pretty damn great. Jeff Spokes’ artwork is instantly compelling, drawing in the reader with darkness and interesting angles into this increasingly enthralling story of a machine cult from the future by him and Bryan Hill.

Avengers #6 concludes the first arc in widescreen fashion. Lots of action and big ideas from Jason Aaron with gorgeous art from Ed McGuinness, Paco Medina, Mark Morales, Juan Velasco, and David Curiel. Again I’m reminded of those early issue of JLA from Grant Morrison and Howard Porter. This has been fun so far and I’m intrigued by what else they have in store.

Beasts of Burden: Wise Dogs & Eldritch Men #1 is a very welcome return, even without Jill Thompson for this go around. The artwork from Benjamin Dewey is beautiful as he reminds us that he’s one of the best nature artists in comics, and possible beyond. His animals are just stunning. The story from him and Evan Dorkin is also interesting, suggesting some arcane traps luring in the paranormal. Great stuff for all ages.

Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack #12 concludes the series with an epic battle between the forces of heaven and hell as it teaches us the true meaning of friendship. It’s funnier when you actually read it. This has been an entertaining series from John Carpenter, Anthony Burch, Jorge Corona, Gabriel Cassata, and Ed Dukeshire, with this final chapter also delivering a nice farewell to the movie as well.

Black Hammer: Age of Doom #4 has some very interesting revelations that ultimately only lead to more questions than answers. What’s going on isn’t nearly as cut and dried as we were led to believe last issue and the mystery has just deepened. Jeff Lemire, Dean Ormston, Dave Stewart, and Todd Klein have managed to elevate this story higher again.

Black Panther #3 finally parcels out a tidbit of what might actually be going on with the series and the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, just in time for a surprise attack and more action. Thankfully, the art from Daniel Acuña is still overwhelmingly gorgeous.

Britannia: Lost Eagles of Rome #2 is even better than the first issue. The mystery deepens as Antonius and Achillia reach Egypt and find incongruities they don’t expect within this province of the Roman Empire. The artwork from Robert Gill (with colours from José Villarrubia) is probably among the best I’ve seen from him, really bringing some very strong work here with backgrounds, vehicles, and character designs that are particularly impressive.

Cold Spots #1 is the start to another horror series from Cullen Bunn, this time accompanied by Mark Torres with the artwork, and as per many of Bunn’s previous tales, this is a great start. There’s a genuinely creepy atmosphere from Torres’ art and the plot of a missing daughter and her child, amidst the spooky maybe-ghosts, is a good one.

Daredevil #607 gets into how there can possibly be a Mike Murdock running around New York and it’s an interesting and possibly hazardous diversion. Gorgeous art from Phil Noto.

Die!Die!Die! #2 is more entertaining over-the-top humorous action that feels like it’s channelling Garth Ennis. Great art from Chris Burnham and Nathan Fairbairn.

Hunt for Wolverine: Mystery in Madripoor #4 is probably the most succinct in sticking to its plot without real deviation of all of these minis. Basically sticking to the thread of these X-women tackling the Femme Fatales. It’s been a relatively decent story from Jim Zub, Thony Silas, and Felipe Sobreiro, even if the art’s been a little uneven. There’s a really nice sequence of Psylocke finding herself again in this issue, though, from Leonard Kirk and Andrew Crossley that has interesting implications going forward.

Jughead: The Hunger #8 is a great jumping-on point for new readers, offering a bit of a history lesson and summary reinterpretation of the events of the overarching plot of the series to date. Great work from Frank Tieri, Pat & Tim Kennedy, Joe Eisma, Bob Smith, Ryan Jampole, Matt Herms, Andre Szymanowicz, and Jack Morelli.

The Life of Captain Marvel #2 continues what is shaping up to be possibly one of the defining and quintessential Carol Danvers stories. I love what Margaret Stohl is doing in bringing out the backstory and interpersonal dynamics of Carol’s family. The art from Carlos Pacheco, Rafael Fonteriz, and Marcio Menyz in the present day and Marguerite Sauvage’s flashbacks is wonderful.

Mr. & Mrs. X #2 continues this fun ride, tossing in Deadpool and more of the lesser used intergalactic X-characters. The dialogue from Kelly Thompson is hilarious and the art from Oscar Bazaldua and Frank D’Armata is great.

Old Man Logan #46 begins another arc tying up loose ends before the endgame of Dead Man Logan kicks off. Wrapping reconnecting with Alpha Flight around a horror story evoking shades of The Thing and Slither results in a wonderful story perfectly fitting Damian Couciero’s artwork.

The Punisher #1 is both a continuation of Matthew Rosenberg’s stories and ideas from the last volume of the series and a kind of back-to-basics approach to Frank Castle. Basically, he’s lost the War Machine suit, but he’s still taking on the world-spanning super-villains. It’s pretty epic and this is great jumping-on point. The dark humour is perfect, reminding me of Garth Ennis’ work with Castle, and seriously this is probably the best art that Szymon Kudranski has ever done. Along with Antonio Fabela’s colours, it’s like he was born to draw The Punisher.

Royal City #14 is an introspective end of saying farewell to the past and accepting change to move forward. This has been an interesting series from Jeff Lemire, focusing on his most often used theme of family, and it’s been a good exploration of their different dynamics.

The Sentry #3 is pretty dark, telling the flipside of the first two issues from Billy Turner’s perspective as he goes about stealing Sentry’s identity. This is almost at Kid Miracleman levels of demented. Jeff Lemire is playing with some interesting ideas here, beautifully brought to life by Kim Jacinto, Joshua Cassara, and Rain Beredo.

Shadowman #6 has some truly beautiful artwork from Renato Guedes, as this arc of Jack falling through time visiting the different holders of the shadow loa takes an interesting turn in ancient history.

Shanghai Red #3 is probably the best issue to date, as Molly reunites with Katie, recriminations are hashed out, and we get a bit of a tour of Portland. Christopher Sebela, Joshua Hixson, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou have tapped into something unique here, and this tale of revenge and some of the lesser told side of American history is incredibly compelling.

TMNT #85 brings Leatherhead back into the fold, with very interesting and potentially dangerous ramifications following the war between the Utroms and Triceratons. Brahm Revel’s clothes-peg take on the Turtles is an interesting visual choice.

The Thrilling Adventure Hour #2 I find better than the first issue. The humour hits home a bit more for me and the leads of Sadie and Frank don’t seem nearly as insufferable as the first issue. The art, though, from MJ Erickson and Brittany Peer is just as good as the first. Entertaining stuff.

Venom #5 is another great issue. The mythology-building in this series is just incredible, growing Venom and his world into so much more. Donny Cates, Ryan Stegman, JP Mayer, Frank Martin, and Clayton Cowles are creating magic.

West Coast Avengers #1 is a great debut, filled with action and humour, as this highly dysfunctional team comes together. It’s nice to see Kelly Thompson doing more Hawkeye and Hawkguy, and the collection of characters coming together to make up the team are bizarre and fitting, carrying on a few of the themes and plot developments of the previous Hawkeye and America series. Though you needn’t have read any of that before you pick this up. Making it nigh unmissable is the gorgeous art from Stefano Caselli and Triona Farrell. This is fun.

Witchblade #7 returns for its second arc, continuing the extremely high level of quality that Caitlin Kittredge, Roberta Ingranata, Bryan Valenza, and Troy Peteri set for themselves.

X-Men Red #7 advances us a bit further as the X-Men attempt to uncover evidence of Cassandra Nova’s influence on the world and thwart her attack on Atlantis. Tom Taylor has definitely been taking a slow approach to unfurling this story, but it has allowed for the beautiful art from originally Mahmud Asrar and now Carmen Carnero & Rain Beredo time to breathe.

I recently saw a post about someone asking why some of us find the TMNT characters attractive. I’m sorry, I can’t remember who it was.

For me it’s Raphael. 99% holy fucking shit he floats my boat. Sure, he’s a mutant, he’s a turtle, and yes he has green skin. Don’t forget that he’s absolutely fucking huge. Swoon.

The reason I say 99% is because there is a part of me that is drawn to Leo. The control he exudes, those blue eyes, how each of his movements seem perfectly executed, and that strut! He looks like he is as almost as strong as Raph, just in a more compact form. And talk about kinky vibe, yum. The submissive part of me screams “YES!” to his persona. The scene in the first movie when he yells “Enough!” Leo flips in the air and tells Raph to back off after landing on the buildings edge, Katana singing and dust and rubble exploding away from his impact (Woah). April is backing up, hell, I would too with that gaze focussed on me. But part of me would be tempted to not move. Anyways…

I found myself wondering why I was attracted to fictional characters that weren’t even human (I eluded to this in my first post “Why?”) I’ll expand on that post. I’ve always been drawn to the big, strong and or burly type. The ones that you know could pick you up and carry you away. Vin Diesel makes my heart pound and I really wouldn’t mind ending up in a dark corner with him. I am not afraid of the dark. *grin*

So, here’s my explanation as to why my body sings at the thought of Raphael. Leo, I summed up above because this is going to already be a long enough post.

Raphael:

1. His size. I’m pretty tall for a woman and I am not delicate. Being 5’11 and not small statured (have a curvy figure and a little bit of extra weight that I am working my ass off trying to lose), I have a 36” inseam (impossible to find jeans at a reasonable price) I have always, ALWAYS felt like the “big” girl. I tower over all of my girlfriends, have been called an Amazon by friends and boyfriends (hence the idea for my OC Immogene) and have found that the majority of my relationships have been with guys that were shorter than me. I have confidence in myself most of the time, I just feel awkward in certain situations. I would be rich if I’d gotten a dollar for every time a guy would come up to me, compliment me, and then walk away. There were a few guys that I was with that I felt like that if I went on top, there was a small chance that I could crush them (yes I know, probably not gonna happen, but my head would go there) I love doggy style, but if the guys a little short, I’d have to kneel on the edge of the bed while more time is spent adjusting the height that my ass is at, than the actual fucking (“Shit, hun lower your ass, I can’t stand on my tip toes this long.”) Meanwhile, I’m waiting to be pounded into the mattress… I’m pretty strong. I lift weights a few times a week and do not shy away from heavy work.

I’m the one in the grocery store with the little old lady beside me who looks at me and then looks at the top shelf. I know she wants to ask me to grab something up there, but she’s afraid. Sighing, I will turn and gently ask “Is there something I can grab for you mam?” Crisis averted, she realizes I won’t pounce and I finally get a smile “O yes dear, could you grab me the olive oil? Thank you. Wow, such a tall girl, pretty though.” I’m the girl that guys get intimidated by. Have you read my fanfic “Two Shades of Green”? Immogene resembles me in so many ways and Brian’s character is actually based upon a few guys that I dated.

With Raphael, well lol, there would be NO worries about me crushing him. In fact, it would be the opposite. I would love the feeling of being utterly surrounded by his massive form. Don’t get me started on his thick fingers. Mmmm. Not many people can manhandle me (one guy I dated was 6’5” and could lift me with one arm…for the first time in my life, my mouth actually went dry. Too bad I found out he already had a fiancee *rolls eyes*…asshole) and the thought of being swept up and held by those gorgeous biceps draws an interesting tingle. For me to have to reach up to kiss him, for him to be able to put me where he wanted me to be? Bring. It. On.

2. His personality. Raph is so passionate. He has an internal fire. He has an attitude. He’s full of testosterone. He’s protective of April. He love’s his brothers. Raph and Leo may fight (a lot) but there are scenes in the where you can see the brotherly love. Like most Raph fans out there, I feel he is the type that is hard as nails on the exterior, but on the interior he’s a big pile of goo. I would love to be the one that could cool his jets (and then heat them up in different ways ;)). I get the feeling that if Raph’s character found someone, she would be his entire world (yes I know I am a romantic and a sap, but I try to let slowly ooze out, not flow over you like Niagara Falls).

Raphael speaks from the heart. The expressions on his face convey such raw emotion (thank you movie magic!). He’s a rebel. One of my favourite lines in the 2016 movie was “Normal, what fun is that?” Total high three for that one. I went to University and did two degrees at the same time. I target shoot, I can rough it in the bush for a few days (as long as there is a nearby water source), I fish, I can throw a baseball further than most guys I know, I love getting my hands dirty and am not afraid to open up a DIY book when my fridge stops working. I also love star gazing, wearing makeup occasionally to make my eyes pop and wearing skirts. Don’t get me wrong I know there are other woman that do these things…it just seems to be rare where I come from. Or, at least I’ve been told it’s rare. In the past those hobbies, skills and habits made me intimidating. I actually had one guy take me camping and who broke up with me shortly after (I found out the reason why from a mutual friend) because I could actually do what I said I could - start a fire, paddle a canoe for hours (I actually dragged him and that damn canoe over a beaver dam because he was scared), set up a tent, etc. He didn’t believe me when I told him I was ok to go camping a little off the beaten path (yes, I know, good riddance). I was raised by my father. He brought me up to believe that a woman could do anything she wanted to (my dad was actually a mentor for young woman in his field who were just starting their careers. He helped so many gain confidence and be proud in a male dominated career choice) I feel that Raph’s (and have personal experience with “Raph” types) personality would be drawn to someone who was sweet, caring and kind, but had a backbone. He would be the type to encourage you to be who you were (girlfriend or not). Reading a fair number of blogs I am not the only one that feels this way about this characters personality. I can see him really shy and afraid of rejection at first but not being able to resist testing the waters with an occasional dirty comment just to see the reaction. When he finds out that she’s interested. There would be no going back.

Referring to the quote about “Normal” again, Raph himself realizes he likes who he is at the end of the movie. Love that ending.

A violent teddy bear suits Raph to the T. Yes he can crush you, yes he would enjoy it (if you were the bad guy), but if you were someone he loved…those same actions would be expressed in an ENTIRELY different way. He would crush you to him and enjoy it just as much. Even though I don’t think he would admit it, Raph wants acceptance. Most of the time he expects the worst from someone. I often ended up in a not so great relationship because the guy accepted most of me (that didn’t take long to piss me off. I would move on to try again). I still struggle some days, but most of the time I am good with who I am now.

3. His voice. The timbre of it, the batman voice, the accent, and that chuckle. He can convey so much emotion in that voice. Good choice on the actor they chose to play him! One Raph Imagine even mentioned him singing to you! I can totally see that. I could listen to that voice for hours.

4. How he moves. Raph has a rolling walk. Shoulders moving with each step. It’s predatory. It’s fucking delicious. Combine how he moves with his never failing focus on his target makes me want to run and hide, but, in a place I know he will find me. The sit-ups on the pipes in the 2016 TMNT movie. His Sai piercing the metal in front of Casey’s face, when Raph doesn’t want him getting any closer to April. The motorcycle scene. I could go on. He moves instinctively. He doesn’t have to plan his next move, his body just does it. Imagining him doing that rolling walk, with me as his target. Hella yes.

For these reasons and a few more I haven’t listed here are why I found myself thinking of a mutant turtle as a partner to bump in the night with. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you or me for feeling this way. We each have things that turn us on, grind our gears, lift us up or put us down. The creators of TMNT just happened to be very good in making Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo each exhibit a typical male stereotype. We are bound to find one (or more than one, or even bits and pieces of each) of those personalities striking a chord with our own.

There are so many fandoms out there. If you find one that rubs you the right way. Close your eyes and let your imagination run wild. Your thoughts are yours and yours alone.
