the weight of the dark that surrounded you felt crushing; suffocating as you tossed and turned around the bed, looking for a position that would miraculously turn off the voices that overlapped in your head and reminded you of every single one of your worries. sweat seemed to pool at the nape of your neck, creating an uncomfortable feeling that you just couldn’t shake off no matter how many times you attempted to wipe it away; a moist feeling clinging onto the flimsy tank top you had already changed into in face of the heat.

“hey baby” taeyong greeted you once you answered, a smile evident in his tired voice. “what are you doing up so late?”

“i can’t sleep,” you sighed, a pout taking place on your lips. “i’ve been trying for hours, i even took pills and everything.”

“oh, i’m sorry, love, that sucks” he spoke once again. it was incredible, really, how only his voice could make your irritation dissipate in a matter of seconds. 

“what are you doing awake?” you asked in turn, hugging a pillow closer to your chest.

“i was finishing up that song i’ve been working on, i think it turned out pretty good.” he smiled, making your chest beam with pride. 

“i know it did, they always do.” you smiled.

“i have a perfect muse.” the boy answered, his words as heart fluttering as always.

“stop, you’re making me blush,” you spoke, eliciting a giggle from the other line.

“sure i am,” he laughed softly, followed by a couple of seconds of silence before he spoke up again. “get ready, yeah? i’ll pick you up in 10 and we can go on a drive.”

his offer was tempting, even as you looked down to catch the poor excuse for clothes you were wearing. 

“sure, i’ll be ready,” you smiled, waiting for his confirmation to hang up the call and stand up to put on a pair of shorts and brush your teeth.

the ten minutes you waited passed by agonizingly slowly, making it seem like an eternity before you heard a knock on your door. you swung it open after checking the peephole and confirming it was your boyfriend.

“hey there, come here often?” the pink haired boy asked, making you roll your eyes as you closed the door behind you and walked up to envelop him in your arms.

“pretty often, i would say.” you muttered, basking on the feeling of his strong arms surrounding your frame, pulling you further into his chest as he left a kiss on your forehead.

“let’s go put you to sleep,” taeyong muttered, breaking apart from you only to open the door of his car, climbing onto his own seat after having secured you in yours. “want to listen to some music?”

you shook your head in response, getting comfortable on the seat as you looked at him. “tell me about your day.” the boy smiled and nodded, beginning to drive as he told you about everything he had done ever since he woke up. you listened intently to his soothing voice - for about five minutes - before your eyes began to feel heavy and your mind became hazy, tenderly leading you to a peaceful slumber.

taeyong looked at you from the corner of his eye after it was silent for a  little too long. his lips formed a smile as his heart seemed to burst out in warmth at the sight of you all cuddled up and passed out on the passenger seat of his car.

‘works like a charm’ he thought, slowing down so he could grab the hoodie he had left on the back seat and drape it around your body. his unoccupied hand found its way to one of your own, interlacing your fingers as he turned around the block directly to your house.

Ok what about chan w a vv sleepy s/o like their always falling alseep everywhere or they can fall alseep rlly easily not like narcoleptic but just sleepy🤷‍♀️

Chan had always been very accepting of the fact that you were always sleepy. You had a talent of falling asleep anywhere and everywhere, he was actually a little jealous. He struggled to sleep. It made him feel good to look after you though. Randomly feeling you fall asleep on his shoulder or somehow leaning on him or holding his hand.

It made him happy. He felt like you trusted him. To be able to fall asleep without worries around him. He slowly started to keep items in all the spaces he was in regularly. Things that would help keep you comfortable. He had a special drawer in his office with a nice pillow and there was always a blanket on the back of the sofa.

People noticed it in his live and he chalked it up to him taking naps in the office. But no, it was for you. He kept snacks for when you woke up and felt hungry. He would turn his music down as to not wake you as well as shushing anyone who came in.

You never realised just how strict he was about his shushing when one day, you were half asleep and jisung came in. He said something, fairly quietly. But there was Chan. This man, fully jumped like it was jumpscare in a movie. Then turned and so dramatically shushed Han that you would think he was Hyunjin.

He really loved you and made you feel so comfortable in your own skin. He never let you feel nervous or self conscious about it. He’d always say, ‘I get to hold you while you sleep. How could I be upset? I’m winning here.’

i fear all my answers are going to be incredibly predictable 🙈 but still thank you !

1. favorite fic you wrote this year

honestly this was a huuuge year for fanfic for me, i haven’t written this much ff in YEARS (lowkey maybe ever, considering i’ve actually finished 2 fics, have been continuously writing the longest multi chapter i ever have, and made good progress on a few other ideas) so this has been wild. i am also really truly happy with everything i have written this year which is a great feeling

but ofc … my favorite is claw machine :’) when i decided to jump back in to literally 3 paragraphs of an idea i’d started TEN YEARS ago for lolz during waava week, i was REALLY not expecting where it went. i wrote the first few chapters in one week which is .. the most i’ve ever written in such a small span of time in my life lmao.

but i am fr soooo happy with how that’s shaped up (and also with what is to come of the remaining 3 chapters 🥺). it’s what i always wanted to write for metalbanders to give the au a way fuller structure and narrative plot, and didn’t have the skills for yet back in 2013-2014. the general premise of raava leaving school to visit college for a month and wan having to face the reality of life without her was the original idea started back then, but i love how i was able to write that while also weaving in all the flashbacks and scenarios that got them to the present ?? that’s a lot of words just to say that claw machine is my baby and i’m rather proud of it :’)))

12. favorite character to write about this year

hehe welllll also very obvious answer. i’ve only written about 2 characters for real and it’s wan and raava so it is.. them. i love them so much i can’t be normal about either of them!! and them together just hits every trope and note i want in a ship to make me crawl up and down the walls and bang my head on the ceiling.

i also love that writing them in canon (which i really rarely attempted before now, but feel like i’ve rlly found a feel for that too) and writing them in metalbanders are still very much the same two characters but so different at the same time? so i’ve had a lot of fun developing their au personalities alongside writing canon, how writing them clearly younger in metalband differs from canon, how different those two universes make their relationship but it’s also still THEM ITS STILL THE SAME

13. favorite writing song/artist/album of this year

the i saw the tv glow soundtrack!!! which also just ended up as my album of the year & my top song was claw machine by sloppy jane from it (gee i wonder where that fic title came from…)

it’s rlly crazy bc that movie just… meant a lot to me on first watch, but it’s also somehow directly how i ended up back in this brainrot ?? the soundtrack reminded me of songs i would’ve put on the original 2013 metalbanders playlist, and i was like holy shit wait a minute… then texted nye in a blind panic “waava i saw the tv glow au” and then?? i was off to the races (also still stand behind that is a GREAT idea maybe one day….)

i am also a huge playlist person, so truly it’s my general waava playlist i’ve been collecting since beginnings aired, and then i made a claw machine specific playlist that is … mostly the istg soundtrack anyway

I wish that Liam falsetto compilation included his falsetto harmonies from the acoustic version of One Thing! Tbh I vastly prefer the acoustic version of One Thing solely because of Liam’s falsetto harmonies throughout (first with Niall, then Louis, and then together with Niall, Zayn and Harry), it just elevates the entire song. especially when he harmonizes with Louis during the verse “cause I’m dying just to know your name,” istg hearing this part is like an instant serotonin boost for me every single time, it’s literally for just four seconds of the song, but it’s like the audio equivalent of the clouds parting and the heavens shining through lol, idk how else to explain the feeling, his voice is just so angelic and adds so much.

Also Little Things ofc and the acoustic performances of More Than This (the version the band used to do for radio stations back in the day, like for Radio Disney) Liam’s falsetto when he harmonizes with Zayn and Niall during those songs is ethereal! (Not falsetto, but since it can also be heard during the acoustic Radio Disney performance of More Than This, there is a note change Liam does for the verse “it just won’t feel right” that I will forever be obsessed with. I loved whenever Liam would do that note change, as well as note changes for live performances of other songs so so much, usually sounding even better than the official recorded versions!)

I’ve been binge watching a lot of their live performances lately, and it’s just insane how undeniable it is, how absolutely essential Liam’s voice is to their performances. I think for people to not see how important Liam’s vocal abilities were, especially during live performances, then in my opinion those people really had to have been making an active effort to ignore him (which unfortunately it looks like this was a common pattern with sections of the 1D fandom even since the beginning of the band, ignoring Liam and rarely giving him credit where it’s due, and to this day I still don’t understand why he was mistreated this way). Liam fr was almost always the main one providing support to the other boys, moving seamlessly between low and high harmonies (that huge vocal range tho!!) blending perfectly with the other boys’ voices, often right after or right before his own solos parts, which he would nail perfectly too, always so consistent (unless he was distracted by water fights and/or laughing about something, usually because of Louis lol). truly a vocal acrobat, he always made it all look so effortless.

This whole ask is so precious to me. I agree with everything you said, I hope I had some mad editing skills that would let me make some kind of audio oost combining all the performances you are talking about here.

Liam's range was undeniably unmatched by anyone else in the band. I remember that post which listed him as one of the best vocalists, along with Zayn, but even Zayn was praised more for his high notes while Liam made his mark throughout the range. I also remember that Zane Lowe interview where he said he believed Liam was the only one who could make it as a solo artist. He had tremendous talent, and I just- his potential remained untapped and that's one thing I will never be able to come to terms with. And that post where Liam's mic stopped working and everyone fumbled embarrassingly- that one always makes me laugh.

He gave so much, did so much, and people never appreciated him. I almost wish there is a reunion, and people get to see exactly what Liam brought to the band, because frankly speaking, there are some people who need that reality check desperately.

- neil: you’re on your own kid (the neil josten anthem, especially the bridge), getaway car (I SWEAR IM NOT TRYING TO BE FUNNY), snow on the beach (tbh i always see this as an andreil song, but it’s just like: neil had never expected to fall for andrew or even trust him in the beginning, so the fact that they’re even falling? fucking weird. also, the line, “you wanting me, tonight, feels impossible” like the idea of someone wanting to touch him without wanting to hurt him ahshajsgs)

- andrew: daylight (just listen), anti-hero (this could very well apply to all the foxes, but the line, “i wake up screaming from dreaming // one day i’ll watch as you’re leaving // cause you got tired of my scheming” seems to be his perspective on nearly all of his relationships), evermore (for me, this song is largely about depression and, tbh, i’ve been reading too many andrew character studies lately, and “that this pain would be for evermore” hurts SO bad when you’re thinking about him. then the song develops, and ends with, maybe this pain isn’t forever. im gonna write a fic on this i swear.)

- aaron: delicate (“my reputation’s never been worse so, you must like me for me” him & katelyn after the whole drake incident im crying so hard😭😭)
