even more modern!ellie headcanons
Tumblr media
a/n: just a little something... again AI AUDIOS AT THE END... replies and reblogs are appreciated
masterlist
ellie is a homebody, and usually will have to be dragged out by you or dina
honestly she’s never ‘dragged’ out by you, she usually likes to tag along if she knows you’re going somewhere where there will be a lot of people
it’s not that she doesn’t trust you, it’s that she doesn’t trust the people around you
you don’t really mind anyway, you like how she loops her finger in the belt of your jeans and pulls you closer to her when she notices someone staring at you
if the person doesn’t stop she’s not above pressing a kiss to the shell of your ear while making direct eye contact with the person
you giggle, throwing your head back slightly and turning to look at her in the dim light, “what’s gotten into you, ellie?”
“that dick keeps looking at you,” another kiss pressed to your jaw, “don’t like it.”
but she’d much rather stay at home with you, both of you tucked under her comforter with the air conditioner turned down to 64° and whatever show you’re watching at the time on the tv
she hates to admit it, but she loves grey’s anatomy (she swore to you she’d never like it with a scoff and “that show is shit, babe. it’s for like, middle-aged moms with no life.”)
but now as you both have your eyes glued to the screen, she can’t help but scoff every time george is on the screen
“what?”
“he’s just such a fucking loser, this guy.”
“he’s not the worst.”
“he’s pretty fucking bad… why would he sleep with meredith and then make it about him when she starts crying! it’s obvious she’s vulnerable… i just don’t like him.”
ellie gets pretty passionate when watching tv. she’s always sharing her opinions with you, looking at you for validation or arguing when you disagree with her
she’ll always add something like: “you’re lucky you’re cute” or “if you weren’t my girlfriend i’d tear your argument apart” and then kiss you on your nose and go back to watching tv
ellie is an awful cook… like so bad
one time she tried to make a recipe for your anniversary, thinking it would be easy but ended up failing miserably
she’s the type to write out the grocery list and cross shit off as she picks things up… even when she doesn’t know what it means
she didn’t know what trader joe’s was, so when she got there she’d be picking shit up and looking at it with a weird look on her face, “mango… joe joe’s? what the fuck is that?” she’d mutter before putting the box back on the shelf
but eventually she’s getting sucked in, picking up a box of mini ice cream cones, cookie butter, and the rest of the groceries needed for the meal she planned on making for you
you come over and the place is a mess, there is flour all over the counter and floors, pots and pans piled up in the stove, and ellie is stood over a bowl, mixing with a giant wooden spoon
“ellie?”
“shit.. fuck,” she curses, jumping a little bit before turning and smiling at you, her eyes looking you up and down, “you fucking scared me. you’re early.”
“no, i’m not.”
ellie’s eyes glance down at her watch, cursing as she bolts towards the stove a “no, no, no,” falling from her lips as she opens and sees the chicken inside burnt to a crisp. she’s throwing on her mitt and pulling the pan out, sighing as she watches all her hard work go to waste.
“you were trying to cook for me?”
ellie forgot you were there for a moment, her jumping a little at the sound of your voice and wiping the sweat from her forehead as she gives you her best smile, even though it’s strained.
“babe, i’m sorry, i- i don’t know where i went wrong,” she sighs, watching as you walk closer to her and put your hands on the counter behind her trapping her in.
“don’t be sorry” you kiss the side of her lips and smile against her skin, tasting her sweat, “it’s sweet… no one’s ever cooked for me before.”
she’s blushing and leaning into you, your warmth providing her some comfort from her previous stress
“you look nice,” she whispers below her breath, but you can still feel the puffs of air coming out of her mouth, “you deserve a good meal.”
“i’m not picky,” you whisper back, giggling as ellie’s heart leaps in her chest. she loves you so much it hurts
her hands rest at your hips when she kisses you gently, saying something about missing you that you miss because of how her lips feel against yours
you order takeout that night and eat it as you help her clean up the mess she made
“have you ever been to trader joe’s? that shit was crazy”
ellie is the type of girlfriend to send you two people from a tv show or an edit and be like “babe, this is so us”
or to think it’s so cute when you have matching icons on instagram, tiktok, or twitter
she just wants to show you off all the time
she draws the line at a joint couple account though
she’s always writing things about you, whether it be in her journal, little poems, or songs about you
she’d post a song she wrote you on tiktok with the caption “wrote this song about my lover” and not expect it to blow up
but then she’s receiving a million comments about how sweet it is and how people wish someone would do something like that for them
she doesn’t like the comment “can your gf fight” so she’s responding to all of them like “no, she can’t, but i can and i will! LEAVE MY GF ALONE!!”
but she’d brag about it to you, shoving her phone in your face and saying “look, your girlfriend is fucking famous.”
when you gasp and grab her face congratulating her in between kisses her face grows red and she’s smiling so wide her cheeks hurt
“don’t forget me when you become famous.”
“how could i forget my muse?”
ellie loves listening to music with you and will make you a playlist that she updates with every song she listens to that reminds her of you
she’s incredibly corny in that way
she always wants to listen to the music you suggest to her, wanting to be closer to you in any way she can
even if she doesn’t like it she’s pretending she loves it and playing it constantly, even when you aren’t around

The Wingman (Jackson Avery x Alex Karev's Sister Friendship Imagine)
 Age Rating: 12+
Chapters: One of Three
Fandom: Grey’s Anatomy
AN: I decided to do another fun chapter that focuses on Amber developing another friendship with another main character.
Summary: Amber acts as Jackson’s wingman at a bar while Andrew is in Italy and they get along.
Words: 2371
I sit at the table in the cafeteria alone studying the case notes from Webber’s surgery. I am munching on an apple while I read the material trying to comprehend the steps of the procedure. Normally I would have a study buddy with me and that buddy would relieve my tension with soft glances but I am alone.
Andrew and Carina are visiting their uncle in Italy who is getting his hip replacement. He said he would be gone a week which is fine I can survive on my own I’ve done it before but I just didn’t expect to miss him so much. After the ordeal with Paul, we’ve gotten closer when I saw how protective he was over me. The sex is more tender, we talk to each other and he doesn’t see me as a mess like I do.
It's been two days since he left and I’m already antsy with boredom. I would call him but we agreed to do it at night during Seattle time because of the 9-hour time difference. I calculate he’s already in bed hopefully thinking about me like I’m thinking about him. God, I miss having someone in my bed.
Tonight is my night off and I have no one to spend it with. Alex and Jo are busy, the other interns are working the night shift and beyond them I don’t have much friends. I munch on my apple harder this time as I hear two people behind me sitting down and talking. I register them as Alex and Jackson the latter who is begging Alex for some reason.
“Come on man please.”
Alex chuckles, “No I am not going to some pop up with you just because you’re bored. Jo and I have plans tonight and you need to ask someone else like Warren.”
“He’s training all night.”
“DeLuca.”
“He’s visiting family.”
“Hunt.”
“Already said no.”
“I can see why.” Alex states mockingly.
“It’s trivia night.” That calls my attention as I stop reading and listen in, “The pop up is 90’s theme it’ll be good for us.”
“No, it’ll be good for you. I’m not going so save your dignity and just go in alone.” Alex tells him coldly. I stand up and approach them as Jackson responds.
“Come on man can’t you just-”
“Hey guys.” I greet them with a smile and they look at me saying hi back, “I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation over there.”
Jackson notices my table with books, “Oh um sorry we’ll move somewhere else.”
“Actually, I was wondering if I might go with you instead.” Jackson raises an eyebrow and I explain, “To trivia night.” Alex snorts and I see him tenting an obvious grin with his hand.
Jackson glares at him and looks back at me bashfully, “Um…I uh I appreciate the offer She-Karev but uh-”
“Oh come on.” I cut in anxious for a fun night of 90’s trivia, “I’m bored out of my mind with Andrew in another country and it’s my night off. Besides I owe you a drink for saving my job after telling off Jennings winning trivia night will be a bonus.” Alex keeps grinning for some reason but I ignore him and continue to butter up to Avery, “I’m a 90’s baby your gonna win with me especially the grunge category I still listen to Nirvana and know who died. And you were there we can’t lose.” Avery still looks uncertain so I turn to Alex for support, “Alex back me up here.”
Jackson’s eyes widen, “Okay that’s not-”
“You know what?” Alex says with a chipper tone as he turns to me, “I think it’s a great idea, you two should definitely do this it’ll be a fun night.” He still grins even as Avery glares at him, “Unless you want to tell her why that’s not a good idea Avery.”
Avery looks conflicted but turns to me with a grin, “No now that I think about it it’s a good thing you came when you did. Okay I guess I’ll pick you up at 8 and drive you home after.”
I grin at finally having plans tonight, “Great! I’ll text you when I clock out and you can meet me in the lockers, it’s gonna be great!”
“Great.” Avery repeats unconvincingly but I ignore it and turn to go to my table. It’s not a night with my boyfriend and it definitely won’t end with sex but at least I’ll have company. I look back at the guys and see Jackson slapping Alex against his head in frustration but Alex laughs hysterically. I narrow my eyes at them but I chalk it up to guy stuff and sit back down at my table.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After work I go to the lockers and put my casual clothes on. I know a black crewneck shirt, torn jeans and black converse aren’t clubwear but this is last minute so I’m making do. I wish the same could be said for Avery but he planned ahead as he stops by the lockers in a gray suit and black button down that fits him perfectly.
“Are you ready to go?” Avery asks me as he enters the empty room and I snort at the sight of him, “What is it?”
“Why do you always look like your about to do a photoshoot?” I ask him amused at our differing outfits.
Avery narrows his eyes confused, “What?”
I shake my head, “Nothing let’s go, your driving, right?” Jackson nods and we both head out of the room side by side. We head to the parking lot in the night light and we stop at his car that I gape at, “Holy crap! Is that a Lexus LC 500? Is it the latest model?”
Jackson unlocks the beautiful car, “It is actually.”
“Is it a V8 engine?”
He looks at me confused, “I uh I don’t know actually I just got the latest and it felt nice to drive so I bought it. I think you know more about it than I do.”
I feel the roof marveling at the sleekness and shine, “Jesus how many boob jobs do you have to do to make this kind of cash?”
Jackson chuckles, “Actually it was from the money my grandfather left me after he died. I would give you a number but I don’t know you that well so let’s just say I bought this and a boat on the same day.”
I gasp at the boat, “God I wish I had rich relatives that died after putting me in the will.” I wince at the comment I made and rectify it, “I’m sorry for your loss.”
He looks at me more amused than offended and opens the driver door, “Come on let’s buy me that drink you owe me.” I nod and open the passenger door. I sit in the seat moaning in pleasure at the 100 grand I’m sitting on.
“If you ever need someone to valet your parking, I am your intern.” He chuckles and turns the engine on making a roaring sound that compares to a lion and enjoy the ride as we head to the club.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As soon as we enter the small pop up we are overcome with the 90’s as No Scrubs by TLC blares from the stereo. The bartenders are in baby blue and orange tuxedo’s respectively that I assume is from Dumb and Dumber. Most of the people in here are dressed in 90’s fashion from neon jackets to slip on dresses over shirts. I think me and Avery are the only ones in here dressed like we’re from the 21st century. We look at each other amused and chuckle lightly.
“Come on let’s find a table.” I follow Avery to an empty table by the bar and he signals the bartender, “Can I get a vodka tonic here please?”
I read the instructions for trivia night and see that we have to pick out a name, “Okay what’s our team’s name gonna be?” The bartender gives Avery his drink that he immediately takes a big sip from, “I’m thinking Nirvana, or maybe The Rembrandts they did the theme from Friends or how about Wayne’s World?” Avery looks at me surprised by my last suggestion and I explain, “I watch a lot of SNL videos on YouTube. Now I’m good on music and movies, how’s your history? I’m thinking we can go over the CliffsNotes on my phone or-”
“Amber I’m sorry.” Avery tells me genuinely and I raise an eyebrow confused, “Look um…I didn’t come here to win 50 bucks worth of margaritas I came here to meet girls, women I mean.”
I look at him shocked and I chuckle uneasily, “I see and the reason you were asking my brother to come is because?”
“Because…” He tries to find the right words, “Because I haven’t been out on a date since before my divorce and usually I don’t have a problem with this kind of thing but it’s been a while and I’m really rusty.”
“Ah.” I understand now, “You need a wingman.” Avery nods as he sips his drink and I shake my head at Alex for getting me in this pickle for kicks, “Remind me to kill Alex.”
“I put it down on my calendar actually.” Avery looks at me apologetic, “Look I’m sorry I know picking up girls for me isn’t how you envisioned your night going. I-I should’ve said something when you offered to come it’s okay. I’ll let you pay for my drink and drive you home right after it’s nothing really.”
I look at him in sympathy over his inability to get back on the horse and genuine apology. I shouldn’t want to do it…but a part of me wants to get back at my brother by upping his average, “When my brother was your wingman what was his success rate?”
Avery stops drinking and looks at me confused, “What?”
“How many girls did Alex pick up for you when he was your wingman?”
Avery calculates, “Um like 4 I think in total why?”
I chuckle at the low number and stand up eyeing the table with about six girls drinking and talking, “Dr. Avery get ready to have your world rocked.” Avery tries to stop me as I walk away but I ignore him and head to the table where I calculate the girls are in their 20’s and 30’s which is the right age for him and introduce myself, “Hey guys how are you doing?” They all say good and I smile, “Well you’re about to be great because I’m here with a co worker of mine. If you look two tables ahead, he’s the one in the gray suit with the dazzling blue eyes.” They look at Avery who nods sheepishly before finishing his drink.
“He’s cute.” The girl in the baby girl costume says approvingly, “What does he do?”
“He’s a surgeon.” Some of them look away dismissively that I catch, “I know a hot surgeon, it’s a cliché but you know not only does he save lives and look good doing it he goes home with his daughter and spends the night as a doting single father.” I scroll through my images and pull up the selfie I took with Harriet while I was babysitting her, “She is so cute you guys look.” I hand them the phone and they aww and gush over baby Harriet, “I know she’s an angel.” I leave out the hellish day she gave me and how I had to sing to get her to calm down, “He is so devoted to her, he spent all day yesterday looking for her stuffed bunny knowing she can’t sleep without it.” I made that story up but that’s the point in being a wingman, “Now I don’t know if he has a free night, I mean a surgeon and dad it’s a busy schedule but he is always up for texting and setting up a date on a free night. Just write your numbers on my notes and I’ll pass it along to him.”
They all type on my phone and I smile victoriously as I head back to my table where Avery looks at me dismissively no doubt missing what happened, “So how bad was it?”
“Oh I don’t know.” I show him my notes with the names and numbers of all six girls, “How bad would you put six numbers from six different girls?”
He looks at me shocked and grabs my phone to see if it’s real and stammers in disbelief, “H-How?”
“I lived in New York for four years and I was a phenomenal wingman in two of those.” I sip my beer, “Also I’m a woman, I know what women want unlike my brother who probably overused the ‘He’s a doctor’ card too many times.”
Avery narrows his eyes confused, “I thought women liked doctors?”
“We do like the lab coats but in this age women have grown smarter and are able to hold down steady jobs.” I inform him, “We think the hot doctor thing is a total cliché but the single dad thing you’ve got it’s a god send my friend. Women like responsible men and what says more responsibility than fatherhood?”
“Wait a minute?” Avery looks up at me, “You used my daughter to get me strange girl’s numbers?” I shrug nonchalant unashamed and instead of being mad he’s laughing in joy, “You are some kind of evil genius you know that?”
I chuckle, “Oh I know. Okay pick a table and I’ll get you more fish to draw in.” He looks at me confused, “It’s a numbers game, you gotta draw the line multiple times so you can better your chances of not having a cold bed in the morning. Now come on pick a table it’s my treat.”
He relents and scans the area, “The table by the jukebox.”
I sip my beer to pump myself, “I’ll be right back.” I stand up and look at him slouching, “Sit up straight.” He follows my command and I walk towards the table to reel in some fish.

I’m not sure if you take nsfw requests anymore so if you don’t, feel free to ignore this!
This is for m!MC -w-
Headcanon that demons have smaller dicks than humans, so when MC first tries to have sex with one of the brothers he says something like ‘sorry if I’m not big enough’ and they’re like ‘oh it’s ok we’ll figure something out :)’ but as soon as he pulls down his pants they’re like O-O ‘you’re insecure about this??’ You can make it funny or steamy if you want. I feel like Levi would just freak out and say no to sex but secretly fantasises about MC fucking him. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
This legit made me laugh out loud in class when I first read it. Funny nsfw scenarios like this are my fave.
Also, sorry for not answering this earlier, I've been kinda busy lately, so I've had no time to write until now.
M!MC with a Big Dick
Lucifer
He felt so confident when y'all started
Thought for sure he'd be the bigger one since he usually is
Did not expect this turn of events in the slightest
I think you actually broke his ego
But at the same time... he's kinda into it
Won't admit it, but he certainly wants to put your size to good use
Still wants to be in control though
You cannot take that away no matter how big your dick may be
Mammon
You thought Luci's ego was destroyed?
Well you practically decimated this poor boy's entire existence
He was straight up so cocky when you got all embarrassed
Was ready to lowkey tease you as well
Then you take your pants down and it's over
He's so mad at you, like, for real
But he'll get over it cause he's also a horny mess and wants to get dicked down
Levi
Horrified but also extremely turned on
He's only seen dicks like yours in hentai
Kinda scoots away from you out of shock
Probably calls it quits on sex that night, but continues to think about it for a while
Eventually he comes back to you requesting that you break him in half
And he's still so shy about it and it's the cutest thing
Please destroy him MC, both you and him deserve it
Satan
Doesn't really mind that much
He's a nerd, so he probably read about humans having larger dicks somewhere
Yeah, it does kinda deflate his ego a bit to see it in person, but he gets over it quick
If anything, he probably gets a bit bratty
He teases you for thinking they were small and just gets them riled up even more
He'll definitely be taking advantage of your size though
Still stays in control for the most part, but doesn't mind if you mess him up a little if you know what I mean
Asmo
Did y'all think he wouldn't already know?
He knows and he is prepared and excited
Wants you to absolutely destroy him And with how big you are, that shouldn't be a problem for anyone
Thinks it's cute how you think you're small and will gladly explain demon anatomy to you if it'll make you feel better
Also makes you feel better in other, more fun ways
Basically, he just has a field day with you and your very pleasurable dick
Beel
Barely has a reaction
He wasn't really expecting you to be bigger than him since he's big by demon standards
But it's not like he's upset or anything
All he really feels when he sees how big you are is the need to gag on your dick
That's pretty much it
This man will go to town if you let him, and it will feel good
Also would like you to rail him
Belphie
The last brother to already know about human anatomy
He spent so much time with humans when he was an angel, so he knew
And he loves it very much
Will probably ride you for hours if he could
You've never seen him with so much energy
Literally just fucks himself dumb on your dick until he passes out
Yeah, he's secretly a very horny bastard and there's nothing anyone can do about it
Oh, and he makes fun of you for thinking you're small, but only in a joking way cause he secretly thinks it's cute
This was very fun to write and I hope the anon who suggested this enjoys it (and anyone else who reads it)

I loooove Lucifer’s wings. I have to confess, I think I have a wing kink. It’s not spicy but can I have mc just kinda... out of the blue stroking his feathers, straightening them out? I suppose it could be preening but it’s just more of wanting to snuggle into those wings. If you’d like to make it spicy you can.
On another note thank you for writing so much requests. It must be overwhelming at times and honestly I don’t know how you do it. But please know that I greatly appreciate all that you do for the part of this fandom that is good. Happy writing, Your Majesty! :D
Supernatural awakened my wing!kink so I totally get this haha. It IS overwhelming at times and college is stressing me out right now so I have to cut down on writing way more than I would like to 😩 i hate it. Thank you so much, darling ❤
Warning: slight NSFW at the end-ish
A Demon's Wings (LUCIFER X GN!READER)
(Shoutout if you realized that that GIF is from supernatural's Michael lol the irony)
Tumblr media
He should’ve known better than to trust his brothers on April fools. Millennia of experience should have warned him that they wouldn’t miss him, and they sure as hell wouldn’t go easy on him, but to mess with his wings? To tamper with the strongest but also simultaneously the weakest part of his demonic anatomy? That’s just a low blow. To say Lucifer was pissed is an understatement. Even after he washed all the honey off his feathers and got them back to a resemblance of what they used to be, he couldn’t help but sit under a dark cloud. He felt humiliated and to a certain extent, betrayed. Never had they ever gone for his wings, and at this point, he would’ve rather have them go for his horns. You see, an angel’s wings are their most precious parts and although Lucifer isn’t an angel anymore, he still cherishes his wings. They bring him both sadness and confidence. They’re beautiful and he knows it, and although they’re not what they used to be, he uses them as a reminder that he has withstood even the darkest of days.
Right now, he has allowed himself a moment on his bed, stomach down with his head resting on his crossed arms. It’s an unusual sight, indeed, but after making sure the door was covered in several spells and magic that only the strongest demon could undo, he allowed himself to let his guard down. Every once in a while, and by that I mean around once a century, he lets himself just be. His natural form is out, wings spread wide across his sheets as relaxation slowly creeps through his body. Sometimes he likes to put some music on, like today. Classical, of course. The fireplace is burning and the room is dimmed to a soft light; some might think this to be a romantic setting, except that Lucifer had no one to share it with. “Lucifer?” or so he thought. Your sweet voice rang through the door, which was slowly opening. His whole body tensed, eyes growing wide momentarily as he watched you slip in. He supposes he forgot that although the magic would ward off other demons, only a locked door would keep a curious human such as yourself out. He should’ve known you would come to check up on him, too. You always do; always worried about his well being.
He barely had time to stand up before you made your presence known in his room. “(Y/N)...” Your eyes immediately landed on his wings, worry and awe shining in them, or so he believes. It’s odd, really. Not that you were concerned, of course, no. You always worried about him and he finds it endearing more often than not. “Are… Are they okay?” You carefully approached him, scared that he will just turn away or change into his more human form to keep you away, to keep you at arm’s length, but he did neither of that. He stood still. “They’re fine.” he didn’t mean to sound so harsh, but your genuine interest in them, especially after that prank, has him on guard. You, however, were just fascinated by them. They were gorgeous and fit him so well. You love the look of them and how seemingly soft they are, although you didn’t really know the latter for sure.
“I’m sorry i… I just wanted to check on you. They’re still snickering and laughing about the incident but I figured… they may have gone a little too far.” Lucifer’s still watching you cautiously, although he finds mild amusement in your current state of worry. “I had nothing to do with it, by the way… I knew they were planning something. I’m sorry. I should have told you.” “Is that why you came here? To apologize?” He’s tense. You never gave him a reason not to trust him and he’s trying to remember that, but his wings are precious to him and he’s scared of anything else happening to them. “Yes… I feel awful. I thought they may dump water over your head, or trip you down the stairs. I never thought they’d go for your most precious part.” The minute those words left your mouth, you could feel your face heat up, eyes wide as you looked at Lucifer. “I-I mean… I’m assuming that they’re pretty precious…”
Lucifer let out a soft sigh, turning around to make some tea for the two of you because you won’t be leaving again until you tell him everything about that prank, “tell me, Darling, what e---!” But before he could, your hand hand raked through his feathers, causing him to tense up again, a deep blush creeping across his face. “(Y/N).” He tried to sound stern, he tried to not let his composure falter, and he certainly tried to avoid pushing his wings back into your hand for more. “S-Sorry… I just.. They’re… wow…” once again your hand was in his feathers, feeling through the softness of them although you took note of the strong bone structure in them; they were nothing to mess with. Lucifer shuddered at the touch, quickly turning around to face you and grab your arm, holding it up, “Don’t… I won’t be able to hold back once you start.”
The truth is, wings are sensitive. Wings can have certain…. Effects on their wearers. Touching his wings is intimate, not to be taken lightly, and he’s not sure you understand the severity of what you’re doing. “Then don’t.” Or maybe you do and you’re just a fool. Your hands are itching to get back into his feathers, Lucifer could tell, and in some way, it’s making it even harder to say no. He craves touch more than anything, more than he would like to admit, but he craves your touch the most. Slowly, he brought your hand up to his face, leaning his cheek against it before placing a loving kiss to your wrist. “You don’t know what you’re saying, Darling.” He managed a soft smile. As much as he would love for you both to explore each other so deeply, he’s scared you won’t be able to handle it, or worse, that he will lose complete control. “But I do… I found a book… about an angel’s wings. I know you’re a demon now, but you were an angel once too… please…. I want this.”
His eyes were fixated on yours, staring at you for what seemed like eternity while he weighed the pros and cons in his mind. “Take your clothes off.” It was a bold statement, yes, but he hoped you would just follow his orders. He let go of your hand, moving past you to lock the door completely and then cast an extra spell on it, turning back around to see you had started on it. Your shirt was thrown somewhere and your pants began to be unbuckled, but before they could fall as well, he moved over in two long strides, cupping your face in his gloved hands to place a deep kiss against your lips, his wings slowly, carefully moving inward to brush over your naked arms. Your hands moved back into his feathers and Lucifer took in a sharp breath, his lips against yours becoming more bruising in a head-turning kiss. “You won’t be ab--” “I know, Lucifer, I know.” your eyes searched his, nothing of love and adoration for him shown within them. Your fingers danced on his black feathers and your eyes landed on them with a smile, “please.”
Lucifer took a deep breath, gently pushing you down on his bed before getting to work on his own clothes, his lower sets of wings dropping down, yearning for more of your touch, “then tonight, I will make you mine.”

There was a saying that your Nonna had always said to you ever since you were a little girl, one that she made sure was ingrained into your mind for the rest of your life.
‘Someone is destined to your mind, soul, and heart.’
Your mother, Kath, had told you that she had repeated those words ever since you were barely a year old. Nonna had said them so much that they could’ve practically been your first words. She would say that statement along with: ‘There is someone out there who already loves you, they’re just waiting for the right moment. That right moment will be up to the universe.’
The concept of soulmates has been around for thousands of years, and Nonna was such a sucker for it. Having met hers when she was sixteen years old, she made sure she taught her family the power of having a soulmate. She told Kath that if she wasn’t around for you, then Kath was supposed to teach you. Luckily, she’s still around though because that woman is one of the best you’ll ever know.
When you were old enough to go to school, the teachers taught you about soulmates as well. When you turn thirteen, you’re able to find who your soulmate is because the power inside of you ignites, guiding you through the world to find your person. The universe was…weird like that; teaching children that they were going to find love at such a young age. You were taught that you were born to be loved by someone, and since you didn’t know any better, you listened. Nonna then started to explain the meaning and importance of soulmates. You were fascinated by it as she would explain it so enthusiastically to you while you listened with wide and curious eyes, making sure you didn’t miss a single word of what she said.
As a shy ten-year-old, you couldn’t wait till you were older so you could find your soulmate, thinking it would be a fun adventure to see who you would click with. Nonna always said that ‘when you know, you know.’
Once you hit seventeen, however, you slowly believed less and less in the idea of a soulmate, and maybe that was because you were trying to force the feeling of trying to click with every person you met, but you lived through your adolescent years listening to your friends rave about how their soulmate was so perfect when yours hadn’t even shown up. They were all smiles while you were all frowns, a disappointed look was planted on your face when you would come to realize you were probably going to be alone and that the universe had forgotten about you.
At eighteen, living in a world of soulmates, you believed you didn’t have one.
That’s how you lived your life.
When you went to college, the idea of being bound to another person was pushed to the back of your mind and you started to live your life more freely. You didn’t have the constant pressure in your head, telling you to find your one true love because you believed there wasn’t a ‘one true love.’ Your Nonna was a bit sad to see you live thinking that no one was out there to love you, but you realized that you didn’t want to sit and wait around for the perfect person, you wanted to venture out.
Throughout college, you lived…a lot. You met new people, hooked up a bit, and didn’t have the recurring thought in your head about your particular soulmate.
That was until you met Eric.
You met him your last year of college; and he was a year older than you. You met him on campus while he was meeting up with one of his old professors whose classroom you just happened to be in as he walked in, and you had immediately taken a liking to him. Besides the fact that you were sexually attracted to him, you didn’t think you would see him again until you met him again at a coffee shop that was not too far from campus. Eric invited you to take a seat with him, to which you said yes, and the rest was history. You and Eric were together for three years. In that time you were able to find a stable job, and you lived life together before he proposed to you. You thought life couldn’t get better than this--you had the greatest fiance and a job you didn’t hate, which was teaching Anatomy at a community college.
Eric had made you believe in love. Soulmates, however? Not quite. Although at times it felt like he was your soulmate, that was just you trying to force something again. He was your soulmate without all of the characteristics a soulmate would have.
Nonna had always told you that your eyes would sparkle while looking at them, so intently to where you couldn’t stop staring at them, thinking you two were the only ones in the room even with so many people around. That you would feel the spark igniting between you and your soulmate, causing your body to feel warm as the physical pull would bring you together. That your heart would beat ten times faster when you knew who that person was, and that the erratic beating wouldn't seem to stop because your soulmate’s heart was also beating at the same pace.
When it came to Eric, you were able to look away and you were aware of your surroundings. When you were close to him, you didn’t feel that magnetic pull. When you looked at him, your heart seemed to calm down to where you didn’t feel like it was pounding through your chest. When you looked at him…you didn’t think he was your soulmate anymore. It’s crazy to even think that you thought he was before when you didn’t believe in the concept, but there was no attraction or pull towards him, and the timing could have been better. Actually, it could be so much better.
“I’m sorry. I can’t do this,” you muttered into the mic as several gasps were heard from the family and friends that had gathered for the moment.
You were dressed in a white, lace dress with a veil clipped onto the top of your head. It was your wedding day, and you were telling the supposed love of your life that you couldn’t marry him anymore because the thoughts about soulmates had barged inside of your mind during Eric’s vows, making you think thoughts that you wished you wouldn’t, but you couldn’t help it. Eric wasn’t your soulmate, and you damn well knew that you weren’t his either.
“W-What are you doing?” Eric whispered as he looked at you with wide eyes that told you not to embarrass him right here, right now.
“I’m so sorry, Eric. I can’t marry you,” you said more clearly, not really telling him but also telling the crowd.
The officiant of your wedding was your friend, Vic, and she looked at you with a shocked expression as she was just as speechless as everyone else. You knew they didn’t have to say or ask anything for you to know what they really wanted to say; they wanted to ask you what you were doing and what caused the sudden decision to not marry someone you’ve been with for four years.
You could ask yourself the same question. Better yet, you would like to ask the universe why, especially on your wedding day, why they decided to suddenly pop inside your head, reminding you all of the bullshit people feel when they find their soulmate.
Eric looked at you with worry, eyes slightly watering as if it was his worst nightmare come true. But you couldn’t carry on with this while neglecting the feeling that was inside your heart and mind. You couldn’t marry him as those thoughts were screaming at you, telling you that you made the wrong decision. Those said thoughts were telling you that your true soulmate was out there somewhere, physically and emotionally hurting because their soulmate decided to marry someone else. Your marriage would be ruined entirely if you went through with it.
“I-I’m sorry…” is what you said to him with a pout on your face as he shook his head. You started heading down the aisle, ignoring the disappointed, sad, and angry looks your guests, especially his family, were giving you as you walked away from the altar that held the man you had given four years of your life to.
Once you reached the middle of the aisle, you started to jog. Picking up your dress so you wouldn't trip over it, you started to run as you couldn’t take the way the people were looking at you.
Without glancing back, you headed over to the black Mercedes that waited for the newlyweds on the curb. Your driver, Jackson, had turned around in his seat, smiling but when he didn’t see the groom, his smile disappeared, also noticing that you had a disappointed look on your face as well. You found a clean napkin on the side of the door, asking him if he had a pen.
“How long are you willing to drive?” You asked.
“I’ll take you to wherever you need me to,” he replied. You smiled gratefully, writing down the address that made you feel at home before handing him the napkin.
He immediately started the car before typing in the address into his phone, driving away from the venue that had relied and counted on you being a wife today.
And you didn’t regret your actions for one second.

Soft, cold winds rushed through you as your skin pebbled from the sudden draft while standing against the white wooden railing of the balcony in the main bedroom. The calm waves immediately put you at ease from the anxiety that you were feeling hours prior, as harsh thoughts pushed their way through your head, telling yourself that you were a disappointment—that you disappointed everyone at the venue.
The shakiness of your hands was replaced by the grasp of the railing as you looked out to the distant sunset. The day wasn’t all that sunny, since the sun was setting behind the clouds. There weren’t that many people out on the beach either, but you were glad because you needed to feel like you were the only person on this Earth.
Coming to the beach house was the first thing that came to your mind when you decided to walk out. You knew that Eric wouldn’t find you here because he didn’t know about it, plus you just wanted to be alone without the constant questions that came from your ex-fiancé and your family.
You felt bad, of course you did, and you didn’t know how to begin explaining to Eric that he was just someone that you couldn’t marry because the previously pushed thoughts had come back to your mind right as you stood at the altar. But right now, you were wallowing in fears that overtook your mind, thinking that everyone was going to absolutely hate you, which you think they did anyway once you walked out.
Setting the wine glass down onto the railing, you looked down at the few pedestrians who walked by on the beach, getting in a last-minute venture before it got too dark. You smiled, thinking about the soulmate crap the universe had made you think about your entire life because any of these people could be the person you would love for your entire life, and you wouldn’t even know.
You groaned to yourself, leaning your body away from the railing and putting your forehead on your forearms. You stayed there for a moment, thinking about how exhausted you were, especially since wine makes you tired, including the long day of getting ready all for nothing.
When you stood back up, you had accidentally knocked your glass over the railing, the glass barely making a sound once it landed on the sand.
“Fuck…” you looked over the railing to see where your glass landed before you headed down the stairs. Once you made it near the bottom, you hadn’t seen the last two steps because they were covered by sand, so you completely fell on your face into the sand, making you gasp loudly from the sudden fall.
Laughing hysterically at your fall as you felt the embarrassment on your cheeks, you rolled over onto your back as you closed your eyes and laughed until you cried. You covered your face as you began to sob, feeling truly sorry for yourself. You never meant for this to happen. You were supposed to be happy, and you were sure you ruined someone else’s happiness.
After a few moments, you got up and brushed the sand off your clothes and face, and shook your hair so the excess sand could fall out. You sniffled, walking over to where your wine glass landed before your phone rang in your pocket. It was your mom calling, and you knew you couldn’t ignore it. You were planning to ignore everyone’s calls and texts before you went back to your hometown in just a few days, but it was your mother--you couldn’t hit decline, especially right now.
“Hello?” You answered.
“Hi, my lovely. You okay?” Kath was surprisingly calm because you thought she would’ve been freaking out.
“Hi, Mom. Yeah, I’m good.” You walked back to the stairs and decided to sit on the bottom of the steps as you watched the calming ocean in front of you.
“Can I ask where you are?” She asked hesitantly.
“I’m at Papa’s house and I’m safe. No need to worry,” you reassured, smiling softly, even though she couldn’t see you.
“Okay, good. I figured you were there. I understand you need space, but call me if you need anything, got it?” Kath was always a worrier, like every mom, but she seemed to worry about you a lot more than usual.
“Got it. Love you, Mom.”
“Love you too, my lovely. Oh, and,” she caught you before you were able to hang up. “I get why you did what you did, and I’m not mad. You’ll find them soon, okay?” Your eyes watered a bit, and you nodded, even though she couldn’t see you. You heard Kath blow a kiss through the phone before she hung up. You always loved how your mom was always able to understand you without you having to say anything at all. She was great like that, and you loved her dearly for it.

Pressing decline to what felt like the hundredth call from your in-laws and friends in the last two weeks made you roll your eyes and want to turn your phone off completely.
You knew that you had to call and text these people back eventually, but right now, you didn’t want to explain. You already had the anxiety from your actions weighing you down already, and these people would most likely scream over the phone as they demanded an explanation as to why you did what you did, and you really didn’t need that at the moment.
All you wanted to do was go back to the beach house and sit on the balcony as you watched the ocean; all far away from your problems.
You were unofficially a single woman, and you could look at all the men and women you wanted now that you were single. The nagging voice in your head was constantly bothering you, leaving you no room to think about what you might say to Eric when you meet up with him. He had stopped calling you a week ago, and since you weren’t entirely cruel, you shot him a text, saying that you were fine and that you’ll talk to him when you were ready because quite frankly, you needed to wrap your head around your thoughts. He was a sweetheart in that way, giving you space when you were the one to walk out on him and needed to explain things. You truly didn’t deserve him.
Unlocking the door to Nonna’s house with your spare key, you found her sitting on the couch watching TV. “Hey, Nonna,” you greeted, and she perked her head towards the door.
She softly smiled, getting up from the couch before she walked over to you. She didn’t greet you like she always did, which made you a little nervous because you thought she might be mad at you, but when her arms wrapped around your body, pulling you into a hug, you relaxed.
“Hi, Chip.” Her nickname for you came out with a smile against your shoulder. She had started calling you ‘Chip’ ever since you were a toddler. You had always wanted a bag of chips to munch on, and the nickname seemed to stick because you were still the same.
Nonna pulled back, guiding you to sit with her on the couch. “How are you, love? I haven’t seen you in weeks,” she asked as she pouted, giving you a look of concern.
You smiled to ease her worry. “I’m doing okay. How are you?” You grabbed her hand from her lap to hold it, the gesture making her smile a bit.
“Okay as well. Worried about you. Haven’t seen you since the wedding…”
You huffed out. “Yeah, Nonna, I just wanted to say I’m sorry-”
“Chip, what do you need to be sorry for? It wasn’t like it was my wedding. I understand why you did that,” she reassured you.
“You do?” You looked at her with a soft look. If there was anyone that you wanted approval or reassurance from, it was your Nonna.
“Of course, I do. Look, I know I told you about soulmates ever since you were younger, and throughout the years, it pained me to see you think that you didn’t have one. So, I didn’t push the idea onto you anymore. I wanted you to live your life, and when you met Eric, I thought he was nice, but I just knew he wasn’t the one,” she explained, making your brows raise.
“You knew?” Nonna nodded. “H-How?”
“Because you would’ve told me right away when you met him. You would’ve told me that you felt everything that I had told you for years, and suddenly when you met Eric, you didn’t talk about those things. I knew on the outside, you made it seem like you weren’t into the idea of soulmates, and that may be the case, but I know deep down that you still care about it. You want someone to cherish you and love you as we all do. You were excited up until you were seventeen because your friends had found theirs already, and all of a sudden you didn’t care. I know you’re still looking, but just wait a little, yeah?” Nonna always had a way with her wisdom, and she had that kind of intuition that made you feel a little less worried. The words that came out of your mouth weren’t much of a shock to you because Nonna was smart like that. You hadn’t realized all of the things she had picked up throughout your relationship with Eric, but you were grateful that she caught those things because it made it easier to talk to her.
“You know way too much, stop,” you joked, making her laugh. You laid your head on her shoulder, embracing the moment with her as you thought about how grateful you are for her. She was truly the closest person to you, and you didn’t know what you would do without her. Suddenly, the doorbell rang as she got up from the couch. “Expecting someone?”
“Must be my personal delivery boy,” she raised her brows teasingly, and you furrowed your brows in confusion. She had always mentioned someone dropping by to drop some things off from her next-door neighbor, and yet, you hadn’t met this neighbor of hers. Nonna opened the door and the person behind it wasn’t someone you were expecting. “Oh, thank you, dear!” She grabbed the set of glass bowls. “Would you like to come in?”
The man behind the door said, “I wouldn’t want to impose-”
“No, please! Come and meet my granddaughter.” Nonna opened the door wider, so her guest could look into her house, and that was when he saw you, standing in the entryway with your mouth slightly open. “Harry, this is my lovely granddaughter--the one I’ve been telling you about.”
“Hi, I’m Harry,” he said breathlessly. His gaze was trained right on you, and Nonna looked between you two as the both of you looked at one another with shock.
“Hi, uh, Y/N,” you shook his hand as you were quite speechless. He was quite attractive and looked young. He had short, curly brown hair that was pushed back with a red patterned bandana. He wore a black Nike jacket, shorts, and running shoes.
There was a moment of silence between you two as the both of you looked at each other. His expression was soft as his eyes seemed to burn into you, making you captivated by his stare. It felt like time had stopped for a moment as you two looked into each other’s eyes, trying to map out what the intent stare really meant. Could it be? Before you allowed yourself to feel the imaginative spark, you broke out of your trance, placing your head down as you thought for a moment. He cleared his throat to relieve the silence as he scratched the back of his neck, looking anywhere other than you.
“I’m just going to put these away,” Nonna broke the silence as she smirked to herself while leaving the room and to the kitchen before you let out a breath.
Harry smiled amusingly, chuckling a tad bit. His dimples popped out when he did so and you thought he was the cutest thing to ever walk the Earth. You walked closer to him so you were in the spot Nonna was prior as Harry was still standing on the doorstep.
“Hi,” you simply greeted.
Harry’s smile widened. “Hello.”
“So, uh, how do you know Nonna again?” You asked curiously, tilting your head as you placed your hand on the doorknob on the other side, leaning against the door.
“My mum lives next door actually. She and Tallie are quite close friends, so I would see your Nonna every time I would visit Mum, and Mum would have me bring things over sometimes—whatever the two talked about,” he explained, and you nodded understandingly, thinking that it was truly a small world.
“How long has your mom lived there?” You wondered.
“About a year and a half now,” he answered. Your brows furrowed as you were genuinely confused about why you haven’t met Harry before because you would always visit Nonna. He looked at you oddly as well, wondering the same thing.
He’s known Tallie ever since Anne moved next door, and also found it strange that he’s never met you before. Tallie had mentioned her daughter, which was your mother, and has met Kath before--many times. She also mentioned you briefly, but he’s never seen any pictures of you, so he wouldn’t have recognized you if he met you.
“That’s strange, isn’t it?” You suddenly asked, and Harry nodded his head. Before he could say anything more, Nonna walked into the room.
“You kids doing okay?” She asked, and you smiled at her, nodding your head. “Do you two want to make some bread?” She suggested enthusiastically. You and Harry both chuckled, looking at one another briefly before you both said yes. Nonna clapped her hands, urging you two to follow her into the kitchen. “The dough has been resting for an hour already, so if you two could do me a favor and knead it for me, that would be great.”
After the three of you washed your hands, Nonna instructed you on how she would like her bread to be shaped like breadsticks. You and Harry complied as she was making the butter.
“So, Y/N, what do you do for a living?” He sparked up a conversation as he kneaded the dough; you were doing the same.
“I teach at the college about an hour away. Anatomy and Physiology professor,” you said humbly, and his brows raised.
“You sure know a lot about the body then…” he suddenly pointed out, eyes widening immediately as he stopped kneading. “That was really weird, I’m sorry.” You laughed loudly as he cringed at himself. “I was just trying to state the obvious since you studied anatomy, and it went smoother in my head.” His cheeks turned into a pink tint color as he scratched his neck--something that you already noticed he did when he felt nervous or awkward--feeling the embarrassment rush through him.
You chuckled, looking up from the dough. “No worries. You’re…cute.” Harry didn’t say anything but shyly smile.
“What about you?”
“Besides living in general,” he started, and you laughed. “I’m a physical therapist. I work at the hospital downtown.”
“Ah, interesting. So, you would know a lot about the body too then, huh?” You teased, placing his words in your mouth.
Harry genuinely laughed loudly, filling the kitchen with his sounds. “Perhaps I do. That was a good one,” he said once he calmed down from his laughter. You beamed at him before you studied him a bit, trying not to get caught.
You were so caught up in how focused he looked while kneading the dough, and the way his lips curled in as he rolled it between his hands. His hands were naked from the rings that you had seen prior before he took them off for this task, but the way his hands were built and what they could do had you limitlessly daydreaming for what seemed like forever. They looked strong, but they were pretty. The orange nail polish contrasted between the bulging veins in his hands, leaving a very fine line between it all.
If you looked any longer, you would be drooling at the thought of this man’s hands, but luckily, Nonna tapped you and by the look on her face, she had caught you eyeing her delivery boy. “Yes, Nonna?”
“Might wanna speed up the process, yeah?” She suggested, with her voice in a teasing manner. All you did was nod as you huffed out a chuckle before proceeding.
After a bit more conversation with Harry, the dough was finally going into the oven, leaving an excited Nonna while Harry was placing the tray onto the rack.
“Tallie, I would hate to not try the bread after it’s done, but I should probably get back to my Mum…”
“Oh, go ahead, dear! I’m sorry to keep you for so long. I’ll be sure to bring some by when it’s done.” She reached up to hug him. “Be sure to tell Anne I said thank you for lending me the bowls, and thanks to you for delivering it.”
“Always a pleasure. I’ll see you soon. Uh, Y/N,” he called out as you gave him your attention. “Walk me out?” You smiled, nodding your head. Harry said one last goodbye to Nonna before you followed him out of the house.
“It was nice meeting you,” you told him, walking onto the sidewalk. You two were walking slowly since Anne’s house was right next door, and it seemed like you two wanted more time with one another even though it wasn’t said out loud. It was like you two already knew.
“You as well,” he said honestly. You were standing right in front of you in Anne’s driveway, not quite wanting to leave just yet.
Your heart started racing uncontrollably fast as you looked up at him. His green eyes still shined bright in the gloomy sky that looked like it was about to downpour any second, but they had caught your eye immediately, and you were completely lost in them. You weren’t able to look away and think how alluring his trance was. Your mind had stopped itself from long jumping into the conclusion that was begging you to finish the story, so you pulled your stare away instantly.
“Uh, well. I’ll see you soon probably?” You asked, backing away from him. Harry slightly frowned but made sure not to make it obvious.
“Yeah, you will,” he nodded, stepping back as he offered a friendly smile.
“Bye, Harry,” you waved at him before you turned around and walked away.
Harry walked into Anne’s home and straight to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. He took a deep breath as he tried to calm down, heart beating outstandingly out of his chest that he felt like he couldn’t breathe anymore. When Harry walked into Tallie’s home, his heart was beating ten times faster ever since he saw you. He simply couldn’t stop staring at you, and the only way he stopped was when you had broken the stare. He definitely felt the spark there, and he wondered if you did too. He sure hoped so because he had never felt that strong of a feeling inside of him with anyone else.
Anne walked into the kitchen once she heard the commotion from upstairs, and saw her son leaning against the counter, head down and eyes closed, and that’s when she began to worry.
“Harry? Love, are you okay?” She ran to his side, placing her hand on his arm. Harry continued to take deep breaths, increasing Anne’s concern. “Answer me, please. You’re scaring me.” The sound of her voice was breaking Harry’s heart as he never wanted his mother to be concerned or scared, but naturally, as a mom, it was her job to be.
“Mum, it’s her. It’s really her,” he breathed out a laugh as his voice was strained from the lack of breath he had.
“What?”
“Her name’s Y/N. She’s Tallie’s granddaughter. My soulmate.” His eyes watered that was quickly followed by slight tears that streamed down his face, feeling so overwhelmed by the joy that overtook him.
“She’s here, huh?” Anne had tears in her eyes as she felt extremely happy for her son. All the heartbreaks and search for his soulmate had ended once he met you, knowing that it was going to change his life forever. Harry nodded, brushing the tears away from his face.
All the signs were there; the gleaming stare, the spark that shocked him, the magnetic pull between you two, his heart rate rising, and he felt like you were the only person in the world when he looked at you. That’s when he knew.
You were his soulmate.

The rain had poured down quite heavily as Harry ran inside the apartment complex with his small umbrella that had barely kept him dry.
Shaking the excess water on his umbrella and wiping his shoes onto the floor mat, he rushed towards the open elevator before it closed because it always took a while to land in the lobby.
“Hold the doors, please!” He called out, quickly running his fastest while trying not to slip. A hand was seen between the doors as the doors reopened. Harry got into the elevator, taking a deep breath.
“Harry?” He looked back at the other person who was in the elevator, and you were softly smiling at him as you took off your hood. You were wearing a burnt orange raincoat that he thought looked absolutely adorable on you, a university sweater underneath, black pants, along with black leather boots. Your eyes lit up at the presence of him, making him smile widely, feeling the attraction from you once again.
“H-Hi,” he stumbled over his words, to which he mentally slapped himself. He cleared his throat, “How are you?” I miss you, he wanted to say. It had been about two weeks since he last saw you at Tallie’s house, and considering you were his soulmate, that seemed like a very long time. There was no doubt that Harry had been on your mind since you met him. There was something about the way he looked at you that made you overthink every possible thing he could mean to you. It was crazy to think that he wouldn’t leave your brain considering you had just met him. You concluded that Harry was just an attractive man, the first man you’ve ever looked at that way since Eric.
“Good!” You said too overly excited, making Harry chuckle at your chirpy voice. You fake coughed, making your voice a tad bit lower. “Good, yeah. What about you?”
“Doing great!” The elevator doors open, and Harry stepped aside, letting you in first before he followed. “Do you live here?”
“Yeah, I do. This is me,” you stopped walking and stood in front of apartment 425 as you fiddled with your keys, nervously. You’ve been living here ever since you graduated college, and you didn’t fully move in with Eric because you planned to move in with him after you two got married, so luckily, you didn’t get rid of this place. “Do you also live here or are you visiting someone?”
“I live here too. I’m actually on the floor above yours, like directly above.” Harry realized that he didn’t even press the button to his floor in the elevator.
“525?” You asked as your brows furrowed. Harry nodded, giving you a small smile. “No way! Guess we’re neighbors…in a way?” You chuckled, and Harry grinned.
“Guess we are,” he slightly giggled.
“Uh, did you want to come in?” You asked. Harry’s eyes widened a bit, surprised by your offer, and you saw how shocked he was. “It’s okay if you don’t want to. It’s raining and thought it’d be nice to have some company.”
“I’d love to. Thank you,” he responded, nodding his head. You smiled as you proceeded to unlock the door, stepping inside as Harry followed behind you.
The layout of your apartment was the same as his since he was on the same side and right above you, but there was something about your apartment that felt like…home to him. He thought it had to do with the fact that it’s your space and you were in it because no one’s home felt like this besides yours. You had a few small potted plants along the windowsill along with a large one in the corner. Right next to the plant was a small wooden table with your red record player on top of it. A mustard yellow velvet couch was pushed against the wall facing the TV that rested on a white shelf bookcase that held many books and vinyl records in the cubbies along with random knick-knacks on the surface. A wooden round coffee table was placed in the middle with a vanilla candle on top of a few fashion magazines. Underneath the table was a white rug that looked warm to dig his feet in on a cold day. Three concert posters that were framed were hung on the wall, and he knew you were his soulmate because the three bands that you had on your wall were his absolute favorite; Fleetwood Mac, Queen, and The Beatles.
His heart fluttered as he looked around, feeling like this was a part of you that he finally knew now. This part of you felt like home to him as he was immediately washed over with the feeling of comfort right when he stepped into your apartment. He felt so welcomed that it was going to be difficult for him to leave your space.
“Make yourself at home.” Definitely home, he thought. “Would you like some hot chocolate?” You asked, taking out a saucepan from the cupboards.
“I would love some,” he smiled, sitting on the couch where he could see you pour the milk into the pot. After a few moments, he saw you rush back into the living area.
“Sorry, let me put some music on.” You kneeled on the hardwood floors to look at your collection before you turned your head back to him. “Any requests?”
“Any Christmas song would be lovely and very fitting,” he requested. It was the beginning of December, and Harry was in the holiday mood. Plus, you were preparing hot chocolate, so it is more than appropriate.
You smiled, nodding your head as you ran your fingers along your selection before pulling one out. Harry noticed the cover art as you pulled the record out.  Ultimate Christmas by Frank Sinatra played on the record player, filling the room with melodious tunes. You walked back to the kitchen before flashing him a smile. He sat on the couch and soaked in the music as he heard humming from the kitchen, and he grinned. Harry felt a warm feeling in his chest as he saw you stir in the hot cocoa into the hot milk as you hummed White Christmas. This moment right here and right now was something he wanted to experience every single day--where you would make hot cocoa as he would watch you with sparkling eyes, thinking how Frank Sinatra’s voice fitted so well with the holiday vibe.
You came back with two red mugs with a bright smile on your face. “Do you mind placing the coasters on the table?” Your eyes pointed at the coasters underneath the candle. Harry nodded and placed two glass coasters onto the table, and he took a good look at both of them. One of the coasters stated ‘Be Kind’ in pink, and the other printed ‘Love Wins’ in multiple colors. He smiled, knowing the smallest things in your apartment was making him fall for you even more.
“Hope you like it. I also should’ve asked what you liked with your hot chocolate but I just assumed you liked the same thing as me,” you chuckled nervously. You didn’t know why you were so nervous, but you think it had to do with the fact that another man was in your apartment that wasn’t Eric.
Harry looked down at his hot chocolate. There were several marshmallows in the hot drink and a scoop of whipped cream with chocolate shavings to complete the drink. He smiled to himself as he took a sip, covering up his flustered demeanor.
“It’s exactly what I wanted. I drink mine the same way,” he replied, and you smirked.
“Glad I know a man with great taste,” you teasingly winked at him, and Harry nearly melted in his seat, and it for sure wasn’t from the hot cocoa because he wanted to reply with ‘More like your soulmate.’ He wanted to know what you were thinking in that beautiful head of yours.
He wanted to know if you felt the same things he does. Did your heart beat uncontrollably fast every time he looked at you? Did you get sucked into a different dimension every time you looked at him? Did you have the urge to move closer to him, closing the gap between you two? Because Harry felt all those things with the simple act of you sitting next to him, and he really wanted to know if you felt the same way.
You crossed your arms as the chilly weather rushed through you. “To be honest, I’m quite shocked that we live in the same building. I wasn’t planning on going back to Nonna’s until the end of the month, so I didn’t expect to see you.”
“So, you were thinking about me?” He raised his brows teasingly.
“And if I was?” You decided to tease back but came out more like flirting.
Harry paused for a moment, drinking his hot drink as he looked up at you through his lashes. “Then…I would say I was thinking about you too.” You nodded slightly, quickly grabbing your drink as you took a sip from it, hiding away your blush behind the mug. “What’s it like being a teacher? Can’t imagine standing in front of everyone and practically perform, I guess.”
You breathed out a laugh, thinking the opposite. He had the look of a rockstar, and his name sounded badass.
“It’s great. I try being their friend rather than a teacher because I feel like if they’re comfortable with me, they’ll retain and understand the material better. I learned that if you’re comfortable with someone, you’ll listen to them, so that’s what I did. And most of them are doing exceptionally well. Some of my colleagues are always surprised with how many students I get during office hours because I encourage using office hours and my email, so I’m quite busy,” you explained humbly. Harry admired your hard work and dedication, and he already knew you were a great professor just by what you told him.
“So, what made you want to become an anatomy professor?” Harry changed the subject, feeling a bit flustered himself.
“I was undecided with my major in college until I had to take a few science classes. One of them was anatomy, and I just fell in love with it. I really enjoyed learning it, and just fell in love with the subject,” you explained.
“The professor part?”
“My anatomy professor was the best. She made teaching look so fun and enjoyable. Plus, I’ve heard one too many stories about students having teachers who weren’t compassionate or sympathetic, and I didn’t like that at all. So, I wanted to be one of those teachers who made sure students learned and have a professor who was understanding,” you said humbly.
“That’s very sweet of you. Unfortunately, I’ve had those professors who were pretty tough and not so compassionate.” You pouted. You always hated hearing or reading tweets when students would type out an email and express what they were currently going through to their professor, only for their professor to lack compassion and support to students who were trying to do their best.
That’s why you wanted to become an educator. You wanted to make learning fun for your students and have them enjoy going to class rather than dreading it and being nervous to walk in.
“What about you? What made you want to become a physical therapist?” You asked.
Harry set his mug down onto the coaster. “The same as you. Something about bones and the muscles fascinated me and how they worked. I grew up loving sports, so that helped a bit, but wanting to help people recover properly was a main goal as well.”
“You’re kind like that; someone who wants to help out others,” you complimented, and Harry blushed.
“Thank you. It also has to do with the fact that one of my friends in secondary school, Max. He got injured pretty badly. He played football, or soccer, and he tore his ACL, which you probably know already, but it takes about six to twelve months to recover from that—physically and mentally. He loved the sport like no other, and couldn’t wait to get into it. His doctor cleared him when he was four months into therapy. Four. Doctor said he was looking good, so he cleared him earlier than usual.” Harry shook his head in disbelief as he told the story and you sat next to him, listening as your mouth was slightly open. “Like most of us, we listen to doctors more than we listen to our bodies. So, Max started to play again, and as expected, he hurt himself again…” he trailed off.
You placed your hand on his knee, comforting him. You could tell that Max meant a lot to him, and by the way he was acting at the moment, he cared enough to dedicate his life towards wanting to be better to people who rely on him.
“And he couldn’t play again. That was when I realized that I wanted to study the body. It was a long journey to get my doctorate, but I eventually got it at twenty-seven, and I’ve been working as a therapist for about a year and a half now; the same amount of time I’ve been here,” he said humbly.
“That’s great, Harry. You must be so proud of yourself,” you offered him a smile.
“I am, yeah. You must be too. Guess we both have a knack for changing some perspective, huh?” He softly smiled.
“Yeah, we do.”
Throughout the rest of the night, both of you got to know one another. You found out that you had a lot in common with him, such as your interests in the body (given both of your careers), movies and TV shows, books, and food; told each other childhood stories, and talked about your families. It was nice to talk to someone who didn’t judge you, especially with what happened a month ago.
It was nearing midnight as the time seemed to go by quicker than usual. After two more glasses of hot cocoa, Harry let out a yawn as he checked the time on his phone.
“I should probably get going--let you rest up,” he said politely, grabbing his mug.
You nodded, agreeing as you didn’t realize how late it was. “Okay. Oh, you could just leave it there; I’ll clean up.” Harry was too tired to debate, so he put the mug down before you walked him to the door. “I had a great time. Thank you for inviting me in and giving me hot chocolate.”
“Of course. I had a lovely time as well. Maybe…we should do it again sometime?” You suggested. Harry’s eyes gleamed as he slightly smirked; a tint of pink formed on his cheeks.
“I would love that.” You said a soft ‘okay’ as you smiled. He looked at you for a moment, noticing your eyes sparkling in the dim light of your apartment as you stared up at him in such fondness, making his heart melt in every way possible. Harry cleared his throat as he was so caught up in your stare that almost hypnotized him. “Well, you know where I live, so come visit if you want or maybe I’ll see you on another elevator ride,” he playfully joked, earning a giggle from you.
“Sleep well, Harry,” you told him as he walked out the door, away from the space that felt most comforting to him.
“Sweet dreams, Y/N.” He flashed you another smile, and your knees nearly melted at the sight of his gorgeousness. Your grip on the door handle tightened, holding you up from falling to the ground.
You waited for him to turn the corner to head to the elevator before you closed your door. Placing your back flat against the door, you covered your face as a rush of giddiness hit you as your face began to warm up. That was the most fun you had in a while, even if it was just as simple as a long conversation.
You thought about Harry as you cleaned up and got ready for bed. Thinking about how sweet and kind he was. You never had met anymore who was so polite and nice while looking like that. There was no denying that you found Harry attractive--anyone with eyes could see that, but there was something about his inner aura and personality that you found extremely alluring and intriguing. You wanted to uncover and unravel all of his traits. That was when you knew you were collectively fucked.
As you went to bed, you dreamt of his green eyes and beautiful smile; drifting off to sleep, unaware that your heart was completing the gaps of Harry’s heartbeat.
Tumblr media
Two weeks had passed since your first hangout with Harry, and you two had been hanging out ever since. Throughout those two weeks, you’d seen him at Nonna’s three times. The first time was unexpected, when you pulled into her driveway, you saw Harry helping her walk. Nonna had a sprained ankle from missing a step when she was walking down the stairs, and luckily, Harry was a physical therapist. Seeing the sight made your heart warm. The other two times were planned and you two decided to drive to her home together. It was very domestic of you two, and the level of comfort was something you never experienced with someone you just met. Nonna was happy to see you two getting along so well, she obviously knew something you were yet to figure out.
It was nice hanging out with him, you thought. He was a great and funny friend that could make you laugh for hours. But he was also someone you trusted that you could talk to about anything. It was  bizarre to think considering you’d only known him for a short amount of time. Harry was just so open-minded, exciting, and new. Plus, you didn’t have many friends that lived close to you, so Harry living upstairs was just a walk in the park.
You were getting ready to have brunch with Harry and Anne. It was your first time meeting her, and you were a bit nervous if you were being honest. As Harry’s friend, you wanted Anne to like you, and you really hoped Nonna had talked you up a bit.
A knock was heard on your front door, and you took a deep breath before answering. Harry was standing behind it, wearing a plain white t-shirt, pink corduroy pants, and a black coat. Something that took you by surprise was that he was wearing brown tortoise framed glasses that fit him so well and nearly made you melt.
“Harry, you look very…nice.” Your breath hitched in your throat causing you to choke up a breath as he was completely breathless.
The corner of his lips turned up. “Thank you, so do you.” You smiled. Shall we go?” You nodded and followed him out, locking your door.
The restaurant Anne picked was not too far from your apartment complex—about 20 minutes. The entire drive to the restaurant, you and Harry sang your heart out to ABBA, pointing at each other as you both screamed out ‘You can dance, you can jive!’
“Y/N, it’s so nice to finally meet you,” Anne greeted you with a hug, and your nerves slightly dropped as she welcomed you with a hug. “Harry’s told me so much about you!”
Harry gave Anne a knowing look as a way to tell his mum ‘don’t tell her everything,’ and Anne gave him the same look saying ‘I won’t.’
“I can’t wait to get to know you. Our table is ready,” Anne said as she pulled away from you. You nodded your head in agreement as you all followed the hostess to your table.
Talking to Anne was something so refreshing. She was so sweet and kind, and you immediately knew where Harry got his best traits from. She also knew how to crack a few jokes here and there, making you almost spit your mimosa out or choke on your food.
Harry watched you two interact and his eyes watched with so much fondness. His mum and soulmate getting along was something he was so grateful for because he wouldn’t know what he would do if you two hated each other. The interaction was so natural between you two that he thought you were going to be the best of friends.
“So, I hope this is not a personal question, but have you found your soulmate, sweetheart!” Anne suddenly asked, and Harry choked on his water, making him cough reluctantly as he struggled to breathe. Anne rose from her chair as you gently slapped his back a few times to help him out. Once he was okay from his cough attack, he wiped his mouth with his napkin. “Darling, are you okay?” She gave him a concerning look.
Harry nodded, his face slightly red from the lack of air. “Yeah, yeah. I’m good, yeah.”
“You sure?” You asked. Your hand hadn’t left his back, and you could immediately feel the tingly feeling that spread throughout your arm like his touch shocked you throughout. Harry nodded again, reassuring you and Anne. You turned back to Anne, realizing that she had an unanswered question. “Uh, back to your question—no I haven’t found my soulmate.”
“Really?” Her tone coming out surprising.
You nodded. “Yeah. I thought I did, turns out he wasn’t the one.” Harry was eyeing you nervously as he sat beside you. He gulped, wanting to know everything.
“I’m sure you’ll find them soon, sweetheart,” Anne reassured, and you gave her an appreciating smile. “Your Nonna seems quite keen on soulmates,” she pointed out.
You nodded. “Yeah, she is. She started talking about soulmates since I was young. She found hers when she was sixteen. Her and Papa’s love was so special. Unfortunately, he passed away about five years ago you explained, and Anne frowned slightly.
“I’m sorry to hear that, love.”
“It’s okay! Feel like he’s always somewhat around. He owned a beach house that he passed down to me, and I go there every month, but I never change the furniture or take anything down, so it very much feels like he’s still with me,” you smiled as you told them.
“That’s lovely, sweetheart. I’m sure he is, and I’m sure he’s proud of you.” You softly smiled at Anne’s words, appreciative of them. You felt Harry’s hand on yours that was resting on the table, and you warmed up at his touch. Turning your head towards him, you flashed him a smile and he sent you a subtle and innocent wink, making your stomach turn into knots. Luckily, you were sitting because you would have surely fallen if you were standing.
“Where’s your beach house located, by the way?” Harry asked.
“Monterey.” You answered and you noticed Harry’s eyes widen, glancing towards Anne. “What?”
“I actually have a house there.” Now, that was new news.
“Really?” He nodded.
“Yeah, it’s in Pebble Beach. Where’s yours?”
“New Monterey.” Pebble Beach was about a fifteen-minute drive from where your beach house was at, on opposite ends of the coast.
Something was interesting about the fact that Harry was on the other side of your beach house. You’d been to Pebble Beach many times, sometimes walking the hour walk there to get away. If you hadn’t met Harry at Nonna’s, would you have met him at the beach house?
You shook off the thought, realizing that Anne had changed the subject, so you listened.
Brunch went by, and you were parting ways with Anne. You promised you would visit her when you visited Nonna, to which she beamed and hugged you tightly. Harry and Anne hugged, and they said ‘I love you’ to each other. Your heart warmed at the mother and son duo, thinking they had the best dynamic.
You and Harry drove back to the apartment complex in comfortable silence, all the way up to his apartment. You two would take turns sharing your apartments because they both made a great hang out spot. His place was your favorite, though. The first time you stepped in it, you felt an immediate calmness to the disarray of what your reality felt like. It was like you never wanted to leave his apartment, simply wanting to cuddle into his couch with a soft blanket over you. You could possibly stay there forever, you thought.
Harry made you both a cup of hot chocolate as it was starting to become thing for you both. It was nice; having a thing with you. It made him feel involved and important in your life.
“Do you want to have an honesty hour?” You asked once he set your mug onto the coaster before he took a seat right beside you.
He raised his brows. “Were you not being honest with me before?” He teased, and you nudged his shoulder.
“I’m serious,” you giggled, and it was music to his ears.
“I am too, but yes we could always have an honest hour. Tell me something.” He curled his lips in, and you couldn’t help but look at his mouth before you quickly glanced back up to his eyes.
“What do you wanna know?”
“Whatever you want to tell me. I’d be happy to listen,” he reassured. You decided you wanted to tell him what happened a month ago with the whole Eric situation. It was something you could open up to him about since he wasn’t at the wedding, so you knew he wouldn’t judge you.
You smiled softly. “It’s funny how we live in a world full of soulmates, huh?” You started. Harry’s breath hitched into his throat. He started to feel anxious right as you mentioned soulmates that led him to be speechless; he nodded instead. “Well, my Nonna has been telling me everything about soulmates ever since I was born. She constantly went on and on about it--always asking me if I’ve found mine ever since I turned thirteen. I was excited, y’know? She hyped it up so much that I couldn’t wait until I was older to find my soulmate.” Harry gulped, not saying anything. He felt a ‘but’ coming in, so he waited until you were finished. “I went through my teenage years with my friends talking about their soulmates that had found them when they were fifteen or sixteen. I was the only one alone. I don’t know why, but the universe must hate me.”
“The universe does not hate you,” he disagreed, shaking his head at the hateful words as he slightly frowned.
“No, it does. When I went to college, I stopped believing in the soulmate shit. I dated whoever I wanted without that pressure. But there was this one person that almost made me believe in soulmates…” you trailed off, and Harry took a deep breath. Maybe she does feel all those things for me? He thought. “His name’s Eric. I met him my last year of college…and we’re engaged--or were engaged.” Harry’s eyes widened as they slightly watered. His heart pounded through his chest as if he couldn’t breathe anymore.
“Y-You were engaged?” He stuttered, holding back his tears.
“Yeah. I said the universe hated me because I ran out and left him at the altar. When he was saying his vows, I thought of everything Nonna had told me. The heartbeat, the stare, the pull, everything. I didn’t feel that with him, and it was shit timing as well, but I’m pretty sure he didn’t feel the same way for me too,” you explained before taking another sip.
“So, do you believe in it now?” He slipped in the question.
“I mean…possibly. I know there’s someone out there for me--maybe. But I really pushed back the idea of my soulmate ever since I felt left out when I was a teenager, so I’m not entirely sure what the exact feeling you feel when you see your soulmate because I just pushed it out of my head and forgot about it.” Harry nodded understandingly.
It made much more sense to him, and you answered all of his questions. He knew that you weren’t feeling all of those things with him. It definitely hurt him, but he’d hoped that those feelings would come around soon because he’d sat right in front of you, waiting for the right moment to tell you that he was yours.
“Have you seen him since?” He carried on the conversation, wanting to know all the details and information that he could get.
“Since the wedding?” Harry nodded, and you shook his head. “No, I haven’t. It’s been about a month since I saw him last. I’ve just been texting him to see if he’s doing okay because I don’t know where his head’s at, but he told me that he would call me when he’s ready to talk, which I have to respect and understand.”
“A month?”
Your brows raised slightly. “Hmm, yeah, a month.” Harry's heart began to beat faster, and he clasped his hands together to prevent them from shaking. “I feel bad, y’know? I feel like I’m now painted as this horrible person, but I know I am-”
“Hey, no, you’re not,” Harry disagreed, shaking his head. “You’re pretty amazing.” Your eyes lightened up a bit. “I’ve only known you for a couple of weeks, and you’re possibly the sweetest person I’ve met. You’re funny, smart, and really fuckin’ kind. You made a decision that was going to affect your entire life. That doesn’t mean you’re a horrible person.” You didn’t say anything but nodded your head slightly with a small smile at his words. He didn’t need to hear anything from you to know that you were appreciative of his words.
“I wanna know everything about you, H.” You changed the subject, not wanting to talk more about your failed relationship.
His body turned warm at the sudden nickname. “Everything?” He raised his brows as he took a sip of his drink. He was a bit wary about your sudden want, but he knew that he could trust you.
You nodded. “Tell me all your secrets,” you whispered. Your words came out seductive, which you didn’t mean to, but by the way he was looking at you, it seemed like your words had some effect on him.
He curled his lips into his mouth as you pierced your eyes into his as his heart began to beat harder. He smirked a little, chuckling to himself at his reaction.
“You're in for it, love. Have a lot to cover.”
A blush formed onto your cheeks. “The floor’s yours.” He took a deep breath before he proceeding to tell you something very important to him. and he hoped he wouldn’t overwhelm you with this information.
“When I moved here, a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with Bradycardia Arrhythmia—my heart would beat slowly as you know. They put a pacemaker in after my second collapse. It was so sudden, and I have no idea where it came from, maybe smoking for an entire year when I was in uni, I’m not sure. But I moved here in August, so around that time, I collapsed. Mum rushed me to the hospital and they did a bunch of tests and diagnosed me, and now I have a pacemaker,” he explained calmly.
The feeling in your chest was something you’ve never felt before. The heart tightened as he spoke every word, causing the pain to increase as your heart sank. Your eyes watered, not wanting them to fall because he didn’t need your pity.
“Harry, a-are you okay now?” You asked, voice small.
“Yeah, I think so. Uh, on Saturday at around eleven in the morning, two weeks before we met, I collapsed again. This time, I really couldn’t breathe. It genuinely felt like it was my last day on Earth. My lungs were closing in and my heart was slowing down. My mum was with me at my beach house, and I was lucky that she was there because she immediately called 911 and got me to the hospital.” You looked at him with fear in your eyes as you listened to the gut wrenching story. “I was gone for fifteen minutes, Y/N. Fifteen. It was some sort of miracle…”
Then it suddenly hit you.
It all made sense.
Your heart suddenly opened up fully and the traces of doubt were left behind. Your mind started to piece together the reasons why you haven’t met your soulmate, and it was all right in front of you. The stories and journeys Harry had gone through had all added up.
The beating organ in your chest had pounded so hard that you felt the beat through your ears, making it impossibly hard to hear, but your heart was fluttering uncontrollably that you couldn’t help but smile and blush. You could see it now—his stare. His eyes captivated yours as he looked so deeply into your eyes that you could stay lost in them forever and never worry about a thing. The magnetic pull and attraction towards him felt like you couldn’t hold back; that you wanted to continue being close to him as you inched closer to him.
Your mind was coming up with different theories on why your soulmate was taking so long, but they all concluded to him. To Harry.
It all made sense.
The reason why it took so long for your soulmate to show was because Harry hadn’t moved here until a year and a half ago. He was still back in England getting his doctorate, and the separation between you two made it impossible to meet. Somehow your mind made up the conclusion that the only reason why you two met after Harry living here, in the same building, for a year and a half was because you were still with Eric; your time was spent on someone who wasn’t your soulmate.
“Harry…” you whispered.
His brows raised. “I’m okay now! Really, I am. I don’t think I’ll have any more collapses…” he said knowingly. His tone was like he knew something you didn’t, like he knew you were his soulmate.
“Harry…” you repeated.
“Yeah?” You reached forward to wrap your arms around his shoulders. Your actions took him by surprise, but he immediately hugged you back, hurrying his face into your shoulder.
You had instantly felt the warmth that he provided, not wanting to pull back. You took deep breaths, and you could physically feel Harry’s heart beating in sync with yours as you two sat in front of each other.
“Why didn’t…you tell me?” You breathed out, eyes glossy as you pulled away from the hug.
Harry noticed your change of emotion and he looked at you with a concerned face. He gently placed his hands on the sides of your face, stroking your cheek with his thumb as your tears spilled out.
“Tell you what?” He asked, still clueless.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were my soulmate?” You questioned.
Harry’s breath was caught in his throat. He didn’t know if you were angry or disappointed with him, but you didn’t show any sign of anger, so he slightly relaxed. Your face was filled with confusion, and he wanted to take that away quickly.
“You know?”
“Yeah, I know,” you nodded, tears threatening to spill out.
“I, uh,” he cleared his throat. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I felt it immediately when I first met you, and I didn’t think you did yet. I should’ve told you…” he grabbed both of your hands and brought them up to his lips, kissing the back of your hand sweetly.
Harry’s eyes watered. He didn’t know if you were happy that he was your soulmate because you haven’t said anything, so he anxiously kept kissing your hand.
You inched forward, placing your forehead against his as both of your hands were in between you two. Your lips met with his hand before you pulled away.
“I felt it. I felt it all when you told me your story and about your condition. It was like your heart opened up for me and my heart finally had the realization that you were right in front of me—this whole time.” You sniffled. Harry’s tears streamed down his face as the overwhelming feeling was present in his chest, making his heart pound through his chest. Your hearts were in sync with one another, so you placed your hand flat on his chest, feeling the beating organ that was giving you so much life.
“I can’t believe this is happening…” he said in disbelief.
“Harry…I should tell you that, uh, the first time you collapsed—when you were diagnosed with your condition, that was when Eric proposed to me. Your second collapse, a month ago, that was my wedding day. The time you collapsed was when I was at the altar. There were just so many thoughts running around in my head that I physically and mentally couldn’t be in front of my ex because I just knew he wanted the one for me,” you explained.
Harry’s mind immediately clicked. “Then when you left the altar was when I was brought back to life…” he pieced together like a puzzle. His missing puzzle piece was you. Your eyes softened, smiling at him because at least you did some good in the last month. “You saved me.”
“I can’t help but think that I was the one that caused all of this,” you poured, and he shook his head.
“No, no. You didn’t. If you’re going to blame yourself for that, then I’m going to blame myself for getting together with other people back in England, causing you to not believe that you have a soulmate,” he challenged. You shook your head in disagreement. “Then we have nothing to blame ourselves for, okay? We’re here now.”
You placed your forehead against his as you whispered,” Yeah, we are.” You close your eyes for a moment, trying to take in the events. You couldn’t believe that after knowing Harry for more than two weeks, he was your soulmate this entire time.
Pulling away a bit, you looked at him as your eyes glimmered. The tips of your noses touched in the most delicate way as you looked at each other. The room was filled with so much clarity, light, and…love. You smiled softly as the corners of Harry’s lips turned up into a grin, dimples poking out.
“Can I kiss you?” He finally asked, eyes looking down at your lips and back to your eyes.
You nodded, your heart beating ten times faster. He moved your hair out of your face and tucked it behind your ear before gently placing his hands on your cheeks as he moved forward to capture his lips with yours. His touch and lips ignited you as the sparks ran through your body, making you pull him closer. His lips were something you’d never felt before. They were soft, gentle, and loving as he moved in sync with you, meeting your tongue with his in such a passionate and deep way.
You felt completely overwhelmed with happiness as you smiled into the kiss, tears rushing down your face as you knew the wait was finally over. He was here.
Harry moved you on your back as he hovered over you, lips never disconnecting as it was something he wanted to do forever. You ran your fingers through his hair, slightly grabbing onto his curls as you earned a moan against your mouth from him. Involuntarily bucking your hips against him, you felt him grow between your legs in his flared pants as he grinded against your leg.
He pulled away from the kiss only to kiss your jaw and neck, nibbling and sucking your skin, leaving a decent hickey on your skin. Your hands raked his clothed back, and Harry felt the way your nails dragged against his shirt, making his excitement increase because he couldn’t wait to actually feel it against his skin, only if you’d let him.
“C-Can I, uh,” he stumbled with his words.
“Harry, do you think we could wait?” You asked, indicating sex. His eyes widened, immediately getting off of you.
“Oh, yeah! I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have-”
“No, don’t be sorry. I just want to wait to do that with you,” you caressed his cheek.
“Okay, that’s fair.” He leaned in to press a soft kiss to your lips to see if he wasn’t dreaming.
The rest of the night was like this—you laid in his arms, stealing kisses from one another. He held you tightly, afraid that you would leave once he loosened his grip, but you were right where you needed to be.

A week went by, and you were happier than ever. You were in complete bliss with Harry, and you never wanted that feeling to stop. It seemed like Nonna was happier than you because she’d been waiting for this moment for so long. She wanted to see you happy, even Harry, you being happy together just made her heart warm.
You were just getting back home from doing some shopping when your phone rang. Assuming that it was your soulmate, you smiled as you searched for your phone through your purse. But what you didn’t expect was to see the contact that you have been waiting a month for.
“Eric? Hi,” you said surprisingly.
“Hey. Uh,” he chuckled. “This is a bit weird, isn’t it? I just wanted to call to see if you were free to talk.”
Your eyes widened. “Yeah! I just got home. Do you want to swing by right now if you’re available?”
“Yeah, that’d be great. The same apartment, right?”
“The same one. I’ll see you soon,” you confirmed before you bid each other goodbye.
You waited for Eric for about thirty minutes, distracting yourself by cleaning and tidying up your place as you constantly overthought what you were going to say to him. This was going to be the first real conversation you were going to have with him in a month, not to mention the first time you’re seeing him after you ran away and left him at the altar.
There was a hard knock on your door, startling you. You took a deep breath before you answered it, revealing your ex-fiancé.
“Hey, Y/N,” he smiled, giving you a hug. He seemed happier and in a better mood than you’d expected.
“Hi, how are you?” You invited him into your home. It still looked the same the last time he came over, which had been quite a while.
“I’m doing good, you?”
“Good as well. Coffee?” You offered.
“Please.”
You made him a cup of coffee, remembering the way he liked it because of the amount of times you’d made it for him in the morning. Setting it on the coaster, you sat on the other end of the couch, facing him. There was a bit of silence between you two—both not knowing where to start the conversation, but you figured you needed to get everything out of your system, so you went first.
“Eric, I’m really sorry for how I left things. I shouldn’t have done it the way I did, and I should’ve talked to you first before we even proceeded to the wedding, but all of a sudden, it clicked. When you were reading your vows, I was just thinking of all the things Nonna said to me, and I realized…you weren’t the one. You weren’t my soulmate,” you explained. Your shoulders relaxed, finally feeling like this was the first step before you got to live your life with Harry.
“Hey,” he reached over to grab your hand. Now, you could say that you really don’t feel the same love as before. His touch wasn’t the same as Harry’s. Eric didn't give you the spark that crawled up your skin, only Harry did. “It’s totally okay. I mean that. I understand why you did that, and I’m glad you did because I knew you weren’t the one for me either, and it took me a while to realize that until…” he trailed.
“Until?” You encouraged him to continue, but it clicked so quickly for you. “You met someone?” He smiled, nodded his head. “Holy shit! What?!” You exclaimed surprisingly. You were the furthest from mad, and you were actually really happy for him.
“I did, yeah. She’s great, honestly. Her name is Mandy and I met her the night of our wedding,” he chuckled. “I went to a bar and met her there. And then I felt it. It’s the most exciting and exhilarating feeling in the world,” he excitedly said.
“Isn’t it?” You raised your brows, and Eric furrowed his brows until he got what you meant.
“Hold on…you…wait…you met yours didn’t you?” He speculated, and you laughed.
“Yeah, I did. Two weeks after our wedding. Actually met him at Nonna’s. Turns out, they’ve known each other for a year and a half. Can you believe that?”
“Actually, I can. Nonna Tallie knows everything. I’m pretty sure she knew that I wasn’t your soulmate too,” he said, laughing. You laughed along, deciding not to tell him that she actually did know.
The rest of the night went on like this. You two caught up, and shared stories and memories that made you laugh when you looked back while pouring yourselves glasses on glasses of wine. You realized that you and Eric were much better as friends, and you’re glad that it didn’t end in a horrendous way because you really cherished and appreciated him.
The night was getting late, and you two were giggling your tipsy hearts out as your eyes were trying theirs best to stay open. You realized you couldn’t fight over your exhausted and drunk self, so you decided to call it a night.
“Uh, you could take the couch since it’s late and you can’t drive,” you offered.
“Really? Thank you,” he smiled. You grabbed him an extra blanket and pillow, and bid him goodnight because you went to the restroom to do your skincare because you never forget to do your night routine no matter how drunk you are.
You crashed onto your bed, closing your eyes as you let sleep and your dreams take over you, dreaming about the loveliest man just above you and how you couldn’t wait to see him again.
Tumblr media
When you wanted to see Harry again, you didn’t expect it to be the way you did.
After a long eight hours of dreaming of him, you heard a loud knock on the door, causing you to jolt awake. Still groggy as you were sitting up in bed, you heard footsteps walking towards the door, and you had nearly forgotten Eric was still in your apartment and that he was going to answer the door.
What you didn’t expect was to hear the familiar raspy and deep voice that said ‘Who the fuck are you?’ making you quickly get out of bed and heading towards the door. Eric was shirtless, clearly still sleepy, and Harry was standing on your doorstep with a bag of food in his hands.
The picture looked bad and wrong. With you and Eric just getting out of separate beds, respectfully, and Eric not wearing a shirt, it really wasn’t what it looked like.
“Harry-”
“A-Are you cheating on me?” Harry asked, not knowing if those were the right words. Sure, you were his soulmate, but he hadn’t made things official yet.
“Hey, man-”
“I’m clearly not talking to you,” he interrupted Eric, giving him a stern look.
You gently pulled his face down so he could look at you. “Listen to me, please?” He didn’t say anything, so you continued. “This is Eric, my ex. He came here to talk last night and we had a few glasses of wine and I let him crash on the couch, that’s all.”
Harry nodded, but his face clearly said that he wasn’t convinced. You looked at him with a sad expression, feeling useless on what you could do to get him to believe you.
“You know…” he started. His face looked disappointed, and you wished he flashed you his smile. “I found it odd that you didn’t know I was your soulmate when I first met you, and it hurt me, to be honest. It broke my heart. I waited patiently for you for my entire life, and I waited even more when I met you and you didn’t know that it was me. I get that if you’re still in love with him, I get it. You were together for years, almost forever. But this…” he gestured towards you two. “It looks bad and it hurts me more than ever.”
With that, he walked away. Rushing towards the staircase, you ran after him, calling for him, but he ignored you. His long strides beat yours as he took two steps at a time, and you barely kept up with him, so you just let him be for now. You sat on the cemented stairs, placing your face in your hands as you cried. Your sobs echoed throughout the empty staircase, and your heart felt like it was ripping in half—Harry’s heart breaking just added to your pain as well.
And just when you had gotten your soulmate, you felt like you lost him.
Tumblr media
A week had passed since you last saw Harry, and it was one of the longest, frustrating, and painful weeks you ever had to live through.
The face Harry had given you was something you never wanted to see. The displeasurable look made your heart drop every time you thought about it, closing your eyes, it was the only thing you could see.
He wasn’t talking to you, no matter how many times you knocked on his door and said sorry to him through the door that most likely came out muffled from the other side. Throughout the week, you tried your hardest not to get angry for being ignored as you refrained from telling him how unreasonable he was being. But you looked at things from his perspective, and you understood why he felt that certain anxiety of seeing Eric in your apartment…shirtless, might you add.
It took you a while to figure out how that Harry was your soulmate, and you couldn’t imagine the doubt and discouraging feeling he had when you didn’t figure it out right away. You couldn’t imagine what he felt like when he first met you and felt everything indescribable.
For what seemed like the millionth time this week, you walked into Nonna’s house, immediately feeling the warmth and comfort you felt every single time. But it wasn’t the kind of warmth you longed for from a certain someone.
“Hey, Nonna,” you greeted once you entered, finding her on the couch, looking through her photo albums.
“Hi, Chip. Come in and sit with me,” she patted the space next to her, and you gladly walked over, taking a seat, looking at the pictures of her and your grandfather when they were younger.
“My soulmate. Miss you so much,” she said to the picture of the two of them smiling at the camera, touching Papa’s face.
Nonna flipped through the album, telling you stories about every single picture. You loved hearing memories about your grandparents as they brought so much joy to you. Nonna’s stories were the last bit of hope you had in soulmates, and you made sure to never let it go.
You saw Nonna take out a picture out of the slip, pointing at it as she told you another story. “This was me and your Papa when we went to the beach. We were with some friends, and he told me he was going to marry me. This wasn’t where he proposed, but this was when I heard it for the first time. I was surprised, but so in love.” She smiled at the photo of her and her soulmate. Nonna handed you the picture so you could get a better look.
In the picture, they were both sitting in the sand and she was smiling at the camera while Papa was holding her waist, looking at her with so much love. They were such a beautiful couple and quite the lookers.
As you studied the photograph, you noticed a couple in the back who equally looked in love as Nonna and Papa were. But to what shocked you was that the couple in the back looked just like you and Harry. You softly gasped, bringing the picture closer to your eyes, making sure you weren’t just imagining things, but sure enough, the couple looked exactly like the two of you.
“Nonna, look at this. This couple right here,” you pointed at the picture.
She squinted before she gasped herself. “Well, that looks quite like you and my delivery boy.”
“W-Why is that exactly us?” You stuttered, a bit spooked out.
Nonna grabbed your hand, holding it tightly. “Soulmates are destined for your future. What they didn’t tell you, or what I didn’t tell you was that, before you’re born or even conceived, the universe already plans for your soulmate because they’re quick like that. They have this stronghold that they can’t help but put together two people who are made for each other, even if they’re not even on this earth yet. In your case, the universe put you and Harry together in your past lives, way before you both were born. You and Harry were made for each other. Don’t let him go, ever.”
Without even realizing, you felt tears fall from your eyes as she explained. Your heart felt like it was exploding with so much love.
You needed him. You needed the air he provided. The light in your darkest days. The love that fulfilled your heart.
You handed Nonna the picture back, but she waved you off. “Keep it. Go get him, yeah?”
Kissing her cheek in gratefulness, you sniffled as you headed to your home.
Tumblr media
You found yourself exactly where you needed to be, knocking on the dark green door with the number 525 in gold.
“Harry, please open the door,” you called out from outside. A frown settled upon your face as you continued to knock. The thought of Harry being on the other side of the door and ignoring you, made your heart ache.
“Can't do that when I’m out here.” You turned your head to see Harry fiddling with his keys with a bag of groceries in his other hand.
You smiled softly, rushing towards him before wrapping your arms around his shoulders, pressing yourself against him. “Missed you so much.” Your heart warmed when you felt his arm wrap around your waist, and you smiled into his shoulder. “Can we talk? Please?” You asked once you pulled away, looking at him with pleading eyes. And who was he to say no to that?
“Let’s go inside.” He walked past you, opening the door to let you in. You missed the homey feeling, and one week was too long without stepping foot into his place. He offered you a drink, but you declined, and he joined you on his sofa.
There was an unfamiliar silence where you didn’t know if you should speak or let the silence take over you until the tension finally breaks. Harry wasn’t speaking either as he was waiting for you to speak since you were the one who almost knocked down his door with your fist with the constant knocking.
“I’m sorry, Harry. This week has been brutal and I never want to go without you ever again. I looked at things from your perspective, and yeah, I would be frustrated and disappointed and hurt at me too. I couldn’t imagine what you were going through when you finally found me and I didn’t even know you were right in front of me. And I just want to say I’m sorry. Eric and I are over, and I don’t love him anymore. He’s already found his soulmate, and I have you…at least I think I still have you…” you said all in one breath, and your mind had gone into a spiral because you really didn’t know if you screwed things up.
Harry breathed out a chuckle, smiling to himself as he looked down at his lap. You knew you hadn’t convinced him enough just by the way he’s silent, probably debating with himself in his head if he should believe you. So, you took out the picture Nonna had shown you from your purse, hesitantly giving it to him.
He grabbed the picture and looked at him before he asked, “Who’s this?”
“That’s my Nonna and Papa. Think they were, like, twenty here. But that’s besides the point…look at the couple in the back.” Harry squinted, observing the couple behind Nonna and Papa. The couple were facing the ocean; the woman was sitting in front of the man as his arms were warmed around her body. They were looking at one another, smiling brightly when the world was right in front of them. But their worlds were right in their arms.
You noticed Harry’s eyes widen, looking at the couple again just as you did to make sure he’s not just hallucinating. He turned back to you, speechless, and you nodded.
“That’s us in our past life. Nonna told me that the universe puts couples together even if they’re not born yet. Our souls were born to the stars and the moon. We were destined to be together decades ago, and we are now,” you hesitantly grabbed his hand, and you’re grateful that he didn’t pull away. His touch was on fire that the spark ignited into something so relieving. You looked at him so intently, and you couldn’t pull away. No matter how disappointed he was in you, there was still that sparkle when he looked at you. “Harry, I’m sorry if I made you think that I wasn’t in love with you. There is nothing more in the world than you, and you’re all I want. We’re made for each other, baby. I’ve been in love with you, I’ll be in love with you. Forever.”
Silent tears streamed down Harry’s face as he curled his lips in. His heart was beating at a normal pace, only because it was now filled with the love and warmth that he’s asked for, and it all came from you. You filled that hole in his heart that’s been waiting to be sealed, and now you vowed to take care of it, and love and cherish it.
Harry shifted closer to you and you smiled through your tears. He delicately touched your cheek like you were fragile glass, and you soaked in his touch that made your cheeks warm. You turned your head to kiss his palm as he cradled your face. He brought his face closer to yours and kissed the tip of your nose before resting his forehead against yours. You smiled to yourself; you thought the gesture was sweet and you missed his touch and lips so much that it had made your heart physically ache.
“I’m gonna make you happy, baby, I promise.”
He nodded as his heart forgave you. “And I’ll do the same. Forever.” Butterflies erupted in your stomach as he spoke so softly, and his voice was deeper and raspier. “I was overreacting the last time--I’m sorry. I just closed myself off and-”
“Hey, it’s okay. Your feelings are valid. Let’s talk about it next time, okay?” You softly suggested, and he offered you a small smile of acceptance.
“I’m gonna love you forever,” he said.
“You better,” you teased, smirking slightly as he chuckled.
The tip of your noses touches as you closed your eyes before Harry leaned in and connected your lips together. The lips that were molding with yours had taken you back years, and it was like you had been kissing his lips for the entirety of your life, along with your beating heart that was beating for him all along.

Summary: The divorce papers are still an issue. (Grey’s Anatomy 2x05) [Finally! I know. Thank you for being patient with me!]

You grabbed your things and rushed out of the bar. Steve quickly did the same.
“Y/N,” Steve called.
“No. I don’t want to talk about this,” you replied, heading down the street. “Not now. Not with you.”
“Y/N…”
“You didn’t sign the divorce papers. Fine. I get it. End of discussion.”
“Y/N.”
“What?!?” You finally spun around to face him.
“Oh… I usually just say ‘Y/N’ and then you yell at me. I haven’t really thought past that point.” You scowled and shook your head. “I actually didn’t have anything planned.” You hit him with your bag. “Hey!” He rubbed his arm. “What is with that?” You did it a few more times. “Hey stop it. Ow.”
“Seriously?! Seriously?! You know what, just leave me alone.”
Steve reached for you. “Y/N—“
“Stop it! I said leave me alone! I’ll see you at work tomorrow.”
You stormed off, heading to find your car so that you could go back home. You were pissed at Steve and, mostly, yourself. How could you let yourself believe that he would be so willing to sign those divorce papers to be with you?
~~~
All you interns had just finished rounds and Gamora had you all in the hallway for assignments. Before she could call them out, Peggy interrupted.
“Has anyone seen Dr. Rogers this morning?” She wondered.
“His name is on the OR board,” Gamora answered. “He should be here somewhere.”
“Thank you.” Peggy swiftly walked off.
“Quill, Lang, you’re in the pit today. Val, there’s a cardiac patient waiting up for you on 2. Barton, they need help in peds. Romanoff, keep an eye on the Longs. And L/N, you’re with Rogers. I don’t want any problems. Go.”
Everyone hurried away while you stayed put. “Rogers?” You whispered. “Uh, I guess, which one?”
“Steve.”
“Uh, I don’t think—“
“Hey, life is short. Times are hard. The road is long with many a winding turn,” Gamora sassed. “He actually asked for you. Take it up with him.” Gamora walked away.
“Shit.”
“Shit? Oh no,” Tony showed up beside you. “It’s only morning. What’s wrong already?”
“Steve didn’t sign the divorce papers.”
“Oh,” Tony grimaced.
“And now he’s asked for me to be on his service today.”
“Well, maybe he will sign them. He just has to think about it.”
“But I don’t want him to think about it. I want it… I want…”
“You want to be the obvious choice. I get it.”
“Yeah… how’s trying to get Pepper going?”
“I think I almost have her. I’ve been in on all her surgeries that I can be. Fury and Hill are even making it work.”
“Wow. I wish I had everyone on my side. But… I don’t and it doesn’t matter anymore. It has to be his choice, not mine, not me pleading or begging. It needs to be all him.”
“Wise,” Tony nodded. “I still think he’ll choose you.”
“We will see… we will see…”
~~~
“Y/N,” Steve greeted when you found him.
“Your wife is looking for you,” you responded.
“Oh, my gosh,” he sighed. “This is hard for me, Y/N.”
“Well, let me make it easy then. I’m not gonna be that woman. The one who breaks up a marriage or begs you to want me. You can sign the papers or you cannot. The choice is yours. Either way, when it comes to this relationship, I’m out.” Steve’s eyes widened and he went to speak but you quickly cut him off. “Nope. We aren’t getting into it anymore. Now, where’s this patient I’m supposed to be helping with.”
Steve pointed behind him. “Down there. But, Y/N—“
“No.” You walked away, Steve following.
“Y/N—“
“No.”
Finally letting it go, Steve sighed and followed you into the patient’s room. There was a young woman on the bed.
“Good morning,” Steve greeted.
“Morning Dr. Rogers,” she responded.
“This is Dr. L/N.”
“Hello,” you greeted. “Can you tell us about your pain?”
“I’ve had a twinge in my back for a little while,” the young woman explained. “I thought it would go away, but then last night my legs went numb. And this morning my back… the pain is just too much.”
“Miss Yang, we’re going to put you on a PCA pump,” Steve said, “give you some morphine which should help control the pain.”
“Thank you.”
“Okay, but there is a bigger problem here. I’ve just take a look at your MRI—“
“Cris!” A man exclaimed, him and a woman rushing into the room and to the young woman’s bedside. “Why didn’t you call us before coming down here?”
“I’m sorry,” Cris said. She turned to look at you and Steve. “These are my parents.”
“What’s going on?”
“I was just about to explain that Cris’s MRI has shown that she has myxopapillary ependymoma,” Steve answered. “It’s a tumor in her spinal canal. But the good news is that we can operate. You have a 95% chance of fully if we get you into surgery as soon as possible. We can’t wait another moment. With a tumor this aggressive even waiting another day puts you at risk of permanent paralysis.”
“Father?” Cris questioned, looking to the man.
Mr. Yang shook his head. “No,” he said. “No surgery.”
“Mr. Yang, without surgery Cris will be paralyzed, probably within the next 24 hours,” Steve said.
“There will be no surgery today. We’re taking her home.”
“Cris needs the surgery,” you pressed.
“And she can have it at another time.”
“Look,” Steve tried again, “Mr. Yang—“
“We are taking our daughter home.”
Steve looked at Cris. “Cris, you are over 18. You don’t need your father’s consent.”
“I am Hmong, and my father is the elder,” Cris explained. “He says I go home, I go home.”
You could tell that Steve was holding back from a harsh reply. He gave Mr. Yang a nod before leaving the room, you following after him.
“Hmong? Let’s find out what that means,” Steve said.
“Do I continue to process her discharge?” You wondered.
“Yeah we have to. It’s insane, but we have to. It reminds me of this case I had one time and this woman came to the office and—“
“Look, do you need me for anything else work related?”
Steve looked around the hallway before pulling you into an on-call room with him.
“Look, I was married for 11 years,” Steve began. “Peggy is my family. That is 11 Thanksgivings, 11 birthdays and 11 Christmases. And in one day, I’m supposed to sign a piece of paper and end my family? A person doesn’t do that. Not without a little hesitation. I’m entitled to a little uncertainty here! At least a moment to understand the magnitude to what it means to cut somebody out of my life. I’m entitled to at least one moment of painful doubt. And a little understanding from you would be nice.”
“I am not fighting you on this,” you responded, opening the door. “Not anymore.”
You stormed away. Leaving both you and Steve in an confused state of anger.
~~~
Bruce was walking down the hall when he noticed Peggy.
“Dr. Rogers,” he greeted. “Still here, I see.”
“I couldn’t leave you,” she responded with a smile. “Have you seen the other Dr. Rogers by chance?”
“I’ll tell him you’re looking for him.”
“Thanks,” Peggy walked off and Natasha walked up.
“So, um, thanks for, uh, being there,” she said softly.
“No thanks needed,” Bruce responded.
“Okay.”
“So where are we?”
“Uh, the north-east corner of a medical center.” Bruce glared at her. “Oh, I’m, I’m getting back on my feet.”
“Fine.”
“That doesn’t mean that—“
“Natasha.”
“It’s my first day back, I’ve… I’ve got—“
“I’m not waiting forever.” The lights flickered, causing the two of them to glance up. “And, apparently, I’m not the only one.”
“Dr. Banner!” Nurse Vision jogged up. “There’s a problem with the elevator!”
“And?”
“Dr. Quill and Dr. Barton are stuck in it with your GSW patient that they were bringing up to the OR.”
“I should have fought harder for the pit,” Natasha grumbled.
~~~
“Lightning hit a sub station,” Maria Hill told Fury as they walked down the hall with Peggy. “We’re running on back up generators.” The medical center had lost its power. “One of them is down.”
Fury stopped, causing the others to do so as well. He rested his hands on his hips, annoyed.
“Breathe, Nick,” Peggy guided. “Breathe.”
“Don’t tell me to breathe, damn it!” He exclaimed. “The only direct means of transporting from the ER to the OR isn’t working. I’ll breathe if I wanna breathe.”
Fury huffed before making his way to the elevators. Gamora and Banner were there, watching some men pry open an elevator.
“How bad is it?” Fury asked.
“Two interns and a GSW to the chest,” Bruce explained.
Fury closed his eyes and put his hand to his forehead.
“Good air in,” Peggy coaxed, doing it herself. “Bad air out.”
Fury gave her a look before turning his attention back on the elevator. “Come on people! Get those doors open!”
The men working on the elevator doors, finally get the door partially open. Revealing that the elevator car was caught between floors. Peter and Clint were in there with their GSW patient.
“It’s jammed,” one of the workers said. “It won’t open anymore. This is as wide as it will go.”
“What did you two do?” Gamora asked the interns in the elevator, kneeling down to see them better.
“Nothing!” They both exclaimed.
“How’s the patient?” Bruce asked, getting down beside Gamora.
“He’s not looking so good,” Clint answered.
~~~
“Why do the lights keep flickering?” Cris asked.
“Something about a backup generator,” you answered, finishing up hooking the morphine up to her IV. “This pump will provide you with a morphine drip and should stop your pain.”
“I told you, I don’t need it. I’m going home.”
“You realize you’ll have to sign an AMA form stating that you’re leaving against medical advice.”
“Fine,” she nodded.
“I know this is new and confusing. I actually called a social worker, they’re willing to come down and talk to you—“
“Spare me the cultural divide, love. I grew up from the street down here. I play in a band. I get it. My father doesn’t. He says no, it’s no.”
“We’re talking about your ability to ever walk again.”
“That’s what you're talking about. I’m talking about my family. Have you ever even heard of the Hmong people?” You shook your head. “Our religion has got rules that are way old and way set in stone and way spiritual and you don’t mess with them.” She sighed. “You don’t anger the ancestors. Even if you pierce your tongue and play in a band.”
“What are the rules exactly?”
~~~
“Rogers!” Gamora shouted as she headed towards Steve. “You’re wife is looking for you.”
“I know,” he responded.
“Are you actively avoiding her?”
“Maybe,” he shrugged.
Gamora scoffed, shaking her head as she walked away. “You’ve got to deal with your problems before they all blow up in this medical center!”
“Steve,” you called, coming up beside him.
“Yes?” He replied, turning to look at you.
“You need to talk to Cris’s father. I’d do it myself but I guess having testicles is a requirement.”
Steve sighed. “Did you try social services?”
“They can’t help us. Mr. Yang believes that Cris is missing something that she needs for surgery.”
“Missing something? Missing what?”
“One of her souls. We don’t need someone from social services. We need a shaman.”
~~~
Peter and Clint were still stuck in the elevator with their patient, Tommy. The patient was getting delirious, trying to sit up and pull out the tubes and wires.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Peter asked, trying to stop him.
“I have to get home,” Tommy said.
“Tom, you’re in the hospital.”
He sat up. “Need to get home.” Clint and Peter quickly worked to restrain him. “No. Need to get home.”
Dr. Banner, hearing the commotion, peered through the small opening of the elevator doors. “What’s his blood pressure?” The attending asked.
“It’s not reading,” Clint informed. “He’s too agitated.”
“How’s his pulse?”
“Thready but it’s still there,” Peter answered.
“Do you have any instruments?”
“Uh, we have…” Peter quickly looked around. “Uh, just a code box and some gloves.”
“You didn’t bring an open chest tray?”
“No. We thought—“
“You don’t have time for excuses. Barton, blood pressure.”
“I’ve taken it 3 times,” Clint replied.
“And?”
“I can’t hear systolic over 50.” Clint looked down at Tommy, who is really pale and wheezing. “He’s gonna die.” Both interns look at each other, scared.
“Intubate him,” Bruce ordered. “I’ll be right back.” He went to push himself up off the floor.
“Wait! Where are you going?”
“To get an instrument tray. You guys are going to have to open up his chest.”
Clint and Peter looked back at each, minds going a mile a minute as Banner stood up. Gamora was behind him, having heard the whole thing.
“Are you sure about having them open his chest?” Gamora asked.
“No,” he answered before he hurried away.
~~~
Chief Fury and Dr. Hill were walking down the hall together.
“This is incogitable,” Fury said. “There’s not enough power to move those elevators?”
“They’re doing what they can to replace the back up generator now,” Hill responded. “Fire department is standing by.”
“All critical patients?”
“Moved to the south wing.”
“Incoming trauma?”
“Re-routed to the other medical centers.”
“That damn back-up generator should’ve been replaced last year.”
“Yes, sir.”
“So why didn’t it happen? Dr. Hill, you know everything. Tell me whose ass I need to kick.”
“That would be your ass, Chief. You didn’t authorize the replacement generator to save money for the new MRI machine.”
Not wanting to show weakness, Fury walked away. Grumbling under his breath as he went.
~~~
It didn’t take long for Bruce to return to the elevator with the things the interns would need.
“This isn’t gonna be too sterile,” Bruce said as he got down to hand them the tools, “but we can still try. Prep and drape the patient.”
“On it,” Clint responded, quickly getting to work.
Peter stood there for a moment, nervously staring at Tommy. Eventually, he snapped out of it, shakily helping.
“Okay…” Peter breathed out once they were finished. “We’re really going to do this.”
Clint just looked at him, both interns feeling completely unprepared, as he kept squeezing air into the patient. Bruce stuck his hand back through with a pair of scissors and a scalpel in it. He hands them towards Peter, looking at him expectedly.
“Take these,” the attending said. Peter just looked at them, remaining still. “Quill, take the scalpel.” Peter just continued to stand frozen.
“Come on, Peter!” Clint exclaimed. “Take the damn scalpel!”
Dr. Banner looked at Peter, completely confused as to way the intern wasn’t moving. Bruce shook his hand to signal for Peter to take the instruments. But the intern looked away.
“Ventilate!” Clint demanded, annoyed at Peter as he shoved what he was holding into Peter’s hands. “I got it.” Clint swiped the instruments from Dr. Banner. He shot Peter an angry look. “Okay,” Clint looked to Dr. Banner. “What do I do?”
“Make a large anterior, lateral, mid-auxiliary incision in the 5th intercostal space,” Bruce directed.
“How—how large?”
“As long as possible. You need to get 2 hands in there. It needs to be long and deep. Use the scissors if you have to.” Peter then made eye contact with Bruce. “Quill, hold a light up for Barton while you’re ventilating. You can do that, right?”
Peter nodded, grabbing a flashlight from Banner. Clint took a deep breath. He was about to cut when Bruce startled him.
“Barton, be sure you don’t cut into the lobe of the heart,” Bruce warned.
“Uh… how—“ Clint paused to clear his throat. “How can I be sure of that?”
“You just have to be sure.”
“We’ll, uh, we’re definitely not in Kansas anymore,” Clint tried to joke before cutting into Pete’s chest.
~~~
You walked up to Cris’ room. Steve was standing outside, watching the patient and her father interact.
“Is the shaman here yet?” You asked.
“He’s late,” Steve replied. He glanced down at the watch on his wrist. “We need to get her into surgery right now.”
Before you really thought about it, you put a comforting hand on Steve’s arm. “It will work out.”
Steve looked down at your hand and then at you. You two stared at each other, lost in the others eyes. It was too long before you realized that you two were too close for your liking and that your hand was still on his arm.
“Sorry,” you mumbled, stepping back.
“Y/N, please just—“
You shook your head. “I’ll see how far our shaman’s out.” And you hurried away.
~~~
Bruce hadn’t moved from his viewpoint of inside the elevator. It had been a while now since Clint had cut into Tommy, but Bruce couldn’t see exactly what was going on.
“Barton, how are you doing down there?” He asked.
“Bruce,” Maria Hill said before Clint could answer. “The fire department’s here. They can get the doors open.”
“No!” Bruce turned to look at the crowd behind him. “Nobody moves. Nobody works not he elevator. I have an open chest and a very nervous intern in there. Keep them back until I give the word.” Dr. Hill nodded, motioning everyone back, before Bruce focused back on inside the elevator. “Clint.”
“I didn’t cut the heart or the lungs,” Clint answered, clearly surprised. “Dr. Banner, I didn’t cut the heart or the lungs!”
“Good, good. Very good. Now check for injuries and do a pericardiotomy.”
“Uh, I’ll need some lap pads, forceps, Metzenbaums and Satinksy clamps then.”
Bruce gave a light smile and a nod. “Yes, you will.”
Clint was quickly given the supplies and got to work.
“Okay… I’ve removed the small clot from the pericardium,” Clint informed Dr. Banner. “No obvious cardiac injuries.”
“Any change in the vitals?” Bruce wondered.
“BP’s still too low to register on the monitor,” Peter spoke up.
“We need to cross clamp the aorta.”
Clint grabbed the clamp from a tray next to him and put it through the opening.
“Stick your hand in and bluntly dissect down until you feel two tube-like structures,” Bruce guided. “The esophagus will be more medical and anterior.”
Clint stuck both his bands in the open chest. “Ah, I feel one tube that is easily collapsible and the other I store muscular, spongy. I can also feel the spine, just underneath it.”
“Yes, you’re touching the aorta.”
The intern grinned. “I’m touching the aorta.”
“Wrap the index finger of your left hand around it and apply a Satinsky clamp with your right hand.”
Clint put in the clamp. “Got it… Wait, I… I think I can localize the bleeding. I… Well… I think it’s coming from the inferior vena cava.”
“Can you find the lesion?”
“Yeah. Yeah… I think I can feel, ah—it’s too far in to repair.”
“Can you tell me how big it is?”
“Small, maybe… like, smaller than a dime.”
“Okay then Barton, I want you to take your finger and plug the hole.”
Clint nodded and did as directed. “I think I can feel his heart… it’s… it’s starting to fill more. It’s beating a little stronger.”
“Excellent. Keep your finger there.”
“Okay. Now what?”
“That’s it.”
“Really?” Bruce turned to lay on his back in relief. “I just stand here with my finger plugging the hole?”
“Yes. Until we can get you out of that elevator and into the OR.” Bruce lifted his head and looked at Dr. Hill. “Tell the fire department to get them out of there.”
“On it,” Hill responded.
Bruce rolled back over and looked at Clint. “Barton.”
“Yes, sir?” The intern replied.
“You just flew solo.”
~~~
“Okay, Cris. We’re going to shut off the PCA pump now,” you began explaining, “which means you will be in a lot of pain for the duration of the—“
“The healing ritual,” Cris interrupted.
“Are you going to be okay with that?”
“Yeah. I can’t find my soul if I’m medicated. No pain, no gain, right?”
“Just, tell me this… you believe in it all too, right? You’re not just doing this for your father.”
“I know it sounds like a load of crap but… just watch the ritual. You’ll see.”
“See what?”
“The moment it happens.” You nodded as the shaman came in with Cris’ family. She looked at them. “I’m ready.”
To give them some room, you and Steve watched and waiting from outside the room.
“How long do you think it takes to retrieve a lost soul?” Steve asked.
“I don’t know,” you replied.
You and Steve carefully watched the healing ritual. And you did see what Cris was talking about. The moment it happened. You didn’t have to believe in it, but you did find a new found respect for her beliefs.
~~~
During Cris’ surgery, you and Steve worked in tandem. You felt weighed down the whole time though. Peggy stood watch in the gallery, smiling down at Steve. He looked up every so often, always looking at his wife. You noticed each time.
You had already finished scrubbing out of surgery by the time Steve started himself. You were outside the scrub room, pacing. You couldn’t do this, this whole pretending to not care thing. It was too hard. You burst into the scrub room, Steve immediately looking at you.
“I lied,” you said. “I’m not out of this relationship. I’m in. I’m so in, it’s humiliating because here I am, going to beg—“
“Y/N,” Steve interrupted quietly.
“Just shut up. You say Y/N and I yell, remember?”
“Yeah.” He leaned away the sink, listening.
“Okay, here it is,” you took a deep breath. “Your choice. It’s simple.” You started to get emotional. Damn it, you loved this man too much. “Her or me. And I’m sure she’s really great. But, Steve… I love you… in a really, really big, “pretend to like your taste in music, let you eat the last piece of cheesecake, hold a radio over my head outside your window”… unfortunate way that makes me hate you, love you. So pick me. Choose me. Love me.”
Steve was staring at you lovingly. He moved to touch you, but you pulled away.
“I’ll be at Happy’s tonight,” you continued. “So if you decide to sign the papers, meet me there.”
Then you walked out. Steve, distressed now, sighed. What was he going to do?
~~~
“Do you think he’ll show?” You asked, doing a tequila shot.
“He’ll show,” Happy said.
The door opened. You turned to the door hopefully, but it’s just Tony walking in. He came over, took off his suit coat and sat next to you at the bar.
“I got your message,” Tony said, motioning for Happy to get him a drink. “You gave him a choice, brave.” He nodded. “But he’s not stupid, though love does make you stupid sometimes. He’ll chose you.” Happy handed him a drink. “Thank you.”
“Are you sure?” You questioned. “I… I literally told him that I loved him. I’ve… I’ve never done that before.”
“He loves you too. He’s just an idiot.”
~~~
Steve was sitting in a doctor’s lounge at the hospital, fidgeting with a pen. The divorce papers were in a manila envelope on the table in front of him. Gamora entered the room, dressed up.
“How’s your patient?” Gamora asked as she put some things away. “The one who got her soul back?”
“She’s gonna be fine,” Steve responded. He looked up at took Gamora in. “Look at you. I’ve never seen you dressed up.”
“Yeah, well, I’m suppose to have a date tonight.”
“Yeah? Anyone I know?”
“Like I’d tell you.” Gamora noticed the pen in Steve’s hand and the envelope on the table. “You haven’t signed those divorce papers yet, have you?”
Steve shook his head. “Gamora.” He looked at her, pleading. “Tell me what to do.”
“Not a chance.”
“Why does this have to be so hard?”
“It’s not hard. It’s painful, but it’s not hard. You know what to do already. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t be in this much pain.”
“I guess you’re right.” Steve sighed. “I shouldn’t keep you. Good luck on your date.”
~~~
Natasha found Bruce in the stairwell, as he went to find an on-call room.
“Hey,” Natasha stopped him, “I… So…” She sighed. “Here’s where we are. I work too much. I’m competitive. I’m always right. And I snore.”
Bruce looked at her confused. “What?”
“I’m trying here.”
Still looking confused, Bruce took a moment to think it out. “Oh! Ohhhh…”
“Yeah.”
“So?”
“Okay. We’re a couple. Whatever. DOn’t make a big deal about it.”
She began walking away. Natasha quickly paused though and turned around. She hurried to Bruce, kissed him, and hurried down the stairs.
~~~
Peggy found Steve in the doctor’s lounge.
“There you are,” she said. “I’ve been looking, well, everywhere for you.”
“Well, you found me,” Steve responded.
“So?” She glanced down at the envelope. “Are you going to sign those divorce papers or not?”
~~~
You were still waiting at the bar. Tony was there, but so was Pepper. So as he flirted with her, he kept an eye on you. Val, Clint, and Scott had joined you.
“He’s not going to come,” you sighed. “You all don’t think he’s coming.”
“He might come,” Val said.
“Yeah, you never know,” Scott agreed.
“He’s definitely coming,” Clint said. Val quickly kicked him from under the bar. “Ow. What? Do you want her doing tequila shots all night? I’ll be the one cleaning up the vomit. Besides, I feel good. I touched a heart today.”
The bell on the door went off again. They all turned to look, but it wasn’t Steve. You sighed and turned back to Happy.
“Pour me another one.”

MASTERLIST
You get out of the Uber you took to get here from LAX. You thank the driver and get your suitcase out of the trunk of his car. You drag your suitcase and dufflebag into the hotel that you plan in staying at tonight. It’s about five and the lobby is kind of packed. The parking lot was pretty full. You get in line at the desk behind a couple and their child.
The desk receptionist hands the couple a key and they walk off. You approach the desk with a smile and say, “Hi, my name is Y/N L/N and I booked a room here for one night.” The desk receptionist nods and types on the computer.
She makes a face and says, “I’m sorry, Miss L/N but that was our last room available.”
Confused, you say, “I called three days ago and made a reservation for a room.”
“I am all out of rooms tonight, I apologize,” she says. “If you’d like to stay and wait in case someone checks out then you can. I thought we had more than one room available for tonight.”
With a sigh, you open your mouth to say something until you hear someone go “Y/N?” behind you. You turn your head to see Charlie Gillespie standing behind you. You blink at him. You haven’t seen him since he broke up with you almost two years ago after a three year relationship. His hair has gotten longer and he’s gotten ... cuter.
You say, “Charlie, wow. It’s been a long time.”
Charlie approaches you and asks, “Are you staying here tonight?”
“I was going to but they just gave away the last room when I called three days ago reserving a room,” you say. “Why are you staying here?”
He says, “I flew in from Canada yesterday and have been staying here until my friend gets back from Canada so I can stay at his place. Wait, did you say that they don’t have anymore rooms?” You nod. “You can stay with me tonight. I have a second bed in my room that you can use.”
With a smile forming on your lips, you say, “Thank you, Charlie.” The desk receptionist hands you a key to Charlie’s room and the two of you take the elevator up to the fourth floor.
When you’re on the elevator, you take a second to look at the man next to you. His hair was much shorter than it is now. He’s wearing a blue and white button-up shirt that’s a little big on him and the top three or four buttons are undone, revealing his chest. He wears khaki shorts and converse sneakers.
The elevator dings and you get off with Charlie, who leads you down the hallway to his hotel room. He uses his key to let you both in and he lets you walk in first. You look around the room. The bed he probably slept in last night is a mess and isn’t made. There’s a shirt thrown over a chair at the little circular table. A coffee mug sits on the table between the beds.
“It’s a little messy but I wasn’t expecting company,” Charlie says, closing the door behind you. “Sorry.”
You smile and say, “It’s okay. It’s not like you need to impress me or anything.”
Charlie chuckles a bit and says, “I can run and grab us some food while you unpack. I know you probably had a long flight and probably need real food.”
“Yes, please,” you say. “Are there any McDonald’s around here? Or Taco Bell?”
He grabs his wallet and asks, “Your usual from either?” You nod in response. “I’ll be back in about fifteen minutes then.” Charlie leaves the room and you sit on the neatly made bed.
Sometimes you don’t remember why your relationship with Charlie ended. He’s a sweetheart, even after not seeing you for two years.
Your mind wanders while you unpack some of your clothes, putting them in an unused drawer. You check the minifridge to see what Charlie has. He just has a few cans of soda and a few water bottles. You sigh and sit back down on your bed.
Charlie walks in moments later with a Taco Bell bag and two drinks. He sets everything down on the little table and says, “Three soft shell tacos, Nacho Fries, and a Baja Blast. After all this time, I still know your regular at Taco Bell.”
With a laugh, you get up and say, “It’s not that hard to remember three soft shell tacos, Nacho Fries, and a Baja Blast. But thank you, Charlie.”
He smiles as you take your food, your drink, and a few napkins before sitting with your legs cross on your bed.
“What do the channels look like here? Any good ones?” you ask, opening one of your tacos.
Charlie shrugs and says, “There’s HBO we can watch. I know know what movie is on right now. Let’s check though.” He plops down on his bed with his Crunchwrap Supreme and his own Baja Blast. He grabs the remote and scrolls to HBO. He puts the channel on and you recognize the movie as Five Feet Apart. You look at Charlie and he switches to a static filled channel. “Not that one.”
Five Feet Apart was the movie you and Charlie watched the day before your relationship with him ended. You saw it in the movie theater a few weeks after it came out. You haven’t been able to watch it since.
Quickly, Charlie scrolls through the guide and puts on Friends. “This is a good compromise,” you tell him. “We both love Friends.”
“It’s one of the greatest shows ever,” Charlie says enthusiastically.
You laugh and say, “You made me watch this show so many times when we were together. The theme song always got stuck in my head after we watched it.”
Charlie swallows the bite of his Crunchwrap that he took before he asks, “Do you know how much Grey’s Anatomy you made me watch?” You laugh. “We’re even, Y/N.”
After swallowing a bite of your taco, you say, “You made me watch un ungodly amount of Friends, Charlie. It was everyday. I only made you watch Grey’s on Thursdays when it aired.”
He chuckles and says, “Okay, you got me there. You made me watch a lot of TikToks though, Miss L/N. You spent hours showing me videos.”
“You were laughing so I didn’t stop!” you say, jumping to your defense. “Remember that one time we tried making a TikTok by dancing to Obsessed by Mariah Carrey. It took us hours because you couldn’t learn the moves.”
Your ex laughs and says, “I did learn the moves eventually though. I still remember them.”
You finish your taco and says, “I wanna see this. Show me.”
Charlie smiles and gets off the bed. He stands in front of you and starts to do the Obsessed dance from TikTok. You laugh as you watch how badly he does the dance.
“For a musician, you have no rhythm,” you tease.
He sits back down on his bed with a sigh as he says, “For a small person, you eat a lot. I don’t know where it goes.”
With a laugh, you say, “I have no idea where it all goes either.”
It feels nice to laugh and talk with Charlie. Neither of you have spoken to each other since you broke up in late 2019. Just seeing him again has made you really happy. You didn’t think you’d see him again. He’s still his crazy self that he was years ago.
Both of you finish and you sit back against the headboard of your bed with a pillow behind you. You’re watching and laughing with Friends even though you’ve seen this episode a thousand times.
Charlie sudden asks, “Do you remember why we broke up?”
You look over at Charlie, who’s laying in the same position that you are, and say, “We just grew apart after high school. You moved down here part time after you graduated and I still had a few months left.” Charlie graduated early, you still had six months left. You were 17 when you and Charlie started dating at the beginning of your senior year of high school. He had just turned 17 right before the school year started. You were 20 when the relationship ended and Charlie was just about to turn 21. It wasn’t quite three years when you broke up but it was close.
He says, “I tried to make it work with us, Y/N. You know that right? Between living down here and acting, I did try.”
“I know you did,” you tell him, sitting up and looking at him. “It just got tough for both of us. We ended things on good terms.”
Charlie nods and says, “We did.”
You blink and ask, “What have you been doing since we broke up? Focusing on music, I hope.”
With a little laugh, he says, “I was on Netflix.”
Almost surprised, you say, “I didn’t know you were on Netflix, Charlie! That’s incredible. Was it a show or movie?”
“A show,” he says. “It’s called Julie and the Phantoms. We’re still waiting to be picked up for a second season but we trending in the top ten for a little bit on there after the show dropped in September last year.” Charlie tells you all about his time on set. He tells you about the show too, and you’re happy to hear that he was able to do two of the things he loves to do while being on the show.
You smile and ask, “Can I hear a song from the show? I know you have a guitar somewhere in this room. You never go anywhere without one.”
Charlie laughs and says, “You’re right.” He gets up and opens the closet door, pulling out a guitar he has stashed away in there. You laugh and shake your head. You know him too well sometimes.
He sits at the end of your bed and you cross your legs, looking at him. He pulls the guitar out of it’s case and he grabs a pick. He tunes the guitar before he looks at you.
“The song I’m about to play is song I wrote with my co-star, Madi,” he says. “It’s called Perfect Harmony. I may or may not have been kind of thinking of you when coming up with the lyrics.”
You smile and say, “Awe, I didn’t know you were such a romantic, Charlie.”
A laugh leaves Charlie’s lips as he begins to play the chords.
Step into my world Bittersweet love story about a girl Shook me to the core Voice like an angel, I've never heard before
As he plays, you sway to the music. You smile, having always enjoyed hearing his voice and watching him play guitar. He’d spend hours practicing or writing songs and you’d sit outside whatever room he was in or sit beside him while he sang and played.
Charlie looks at you occasionally as he plays, almost like he’s singing to you.
You set me free You and me together is more than chemistry Love me as I am I'll hold your music here inside my hands
You watch him intently, the smile never leaving your face as he plays. Hearing his voice again makes you so happy.
I feel your rhythm in my heart, yeah-yeah You are my brightest, burning star, woah-woah I never knew a love so real (So real) We're heaven on earth, melody and words
As he finishes up the song, you stop swaying and you look at him. Charlie finishes and he looks at you. He laughs a bit and says, “And that’s Perfect Harmony.”
“It’s beautiful,” you tell him. “And I’m not just saying that because you kind of wrote the song while thinking about me. I think it’s really good, Charlie. You’re so talented.”
Charlie’s face gets a little flustered and he says, “I’m just decent at guitar and decent at singing.”
You say, “You wouldn’t have landed a huge Netflix role if you weren’t crazy talented, Charlie. You know that right?”
He packs up his guitar and says, “You don’t have to lie to me like we’re still dating, Y/N.” Charlie gets up and puts his guitar back in the closet he took it about from. You get up and walk over to him.
When he turns around, he jumps a bit, startled that you were right there. You stare up at him and say, “I’m telling you right now that you are insanely talented. I’m face to face with you now so you can’t tell me that I’m lying.”
After a moment of staring up into Charlie’s eyes, he takes a step toward you. Your heart begins to race in your chest and you take a deep breath. You feel his fingers touch your hand and butterflies erupt in your belly. His callused fingers intertwine with yours and you gasp.
“Can I kiss you?” Charlie suddenly asks.
You nod slowly, tilting your head up. It’s been so long since Charlie’s kissed you, and you always loved his kisses. Whenever you were upset, he’d kiss your forehead or your cheek or your neck and you’d feel better almost immediately.
Charlie’s free hand comes up to your face, cupping your cheek. He leans down and ghosts his lips over yours hesitantly. You lean your head up as Charlie becomes more sure and crashes his lips to yours. You gasp softly before kissing him back. The kiss is slow and soft as you both take in the moment.
In the two years apart, you’ve never lost feelings for Charlie. You tried to date but it never worked out because you never were able to get over the only man you ever really loved. Being able to hold his hand and kiss him again feels heavenly.
Both of you stand like this for a few moments before you pull back, looking up at Charlie. He looks down at you and asks, “How long will you be in Los Angeles?”
You say, “I’m moving into my new apartment tomorrow. I just flew in a day early.”
He smiles and asks, “So you’re here permanently?”
“I’m here permanently,” you say, smiling. “So if you’re willing to try the relationship thing again then-”
Charlie cuts you off with another kiss, this one rougher than the last. You laugh as Charlie pulls back, saying, “Are you kidding? I’d love to try the relationship thing again. The only reason I’m staying with my friend is because I’m looking for a new apartment too.”
With a huge smile on both your faces, you wrap your arms around Charlie’s neck. You hug him tight and say, “Looks like we ended up finding our way back to each other.”
“Thank God,” Charlie says against your ear. You laugh.
You spend the night wrapped around Charlie in some way until you begin to fall asleep.
As you doze off to sleep, you hear Charlie begin to sing softly.
The truth is finally breaking through Two worlds collide when I'm with you Our voices rise and soar so high We come to life when we're In perfect harmony
A smile forms on your face as you snuggle against Charlie’s side, falling asleep in his arms.

Painting stars
Sirius enters an art shop, hoping to finally buy the supplies he'd been saving up for for months, but walking through that door brings him much more than expected
This is my first oneshot and I hope you like it and I'll post more writing like this hopefully and my writing can also be found on ao3 my username is @loveglowslikethemoon hope you enjoy :)
Today had been pretty quiet with only a couple customers and the shop was closing in 10 minutes, I was ready to go home...
Ding!
I look up from my book, ‘What kind of customer turns up this late?’ I think. I look around to the door, standing there is a tall, handsome young man, his grey eyes excitedly glancing over the shop, his black hair tied up into a bun. His fair skin is disrupted only by a small beauty mark, under his eye. The confident smile that suddenly splits his face as he turns to me, brings out two dimples that break his otherwise smooth cheeks.
"Afternoon! I'm looking for art supplies, I mean I am in an art shop" he says, chuckling. "I actually need some advice, you have a very wide selection and I'm not quite sure what to pick." he gestures vaguely at the shelves full of pencils and brushes, paint and charcoal, canvases and sketchbooks... "You see I love painting but I have no idea which brushes to use, it's embarrassing really."
"There's nothing to be embarrassed about, actually it's quite common, that’s what I’m here for” I reply with a smile “So you said you paint, right? What do you need, brushes, paint, canvases…?”
“I… um… I actually need everything… You see my parents, well, they kicked me out… and I left everything there… but I've finally saved up enough money to buy new supplies so here I am” he explains chuckling nervously. I look around nervously, unsure what to answer to that but I try to remain as steady and professional as possible.
“That's… terrible, I’m so sorry.” I say, smiling nervously, trying to seem comforting.
“It’s alright, it’s a good riddance I guess.” he replies cheerily “so about those supplies, what do you recommend?”
“Follow me, I’ll show you my recommendations. You’ll have to tell me a bit more about your style of painting so I can give you my best advice.” I say, leading him over to the shelves.
I quickly give him an overview of the different supplies before giving him a more detailed review of each product and advice. We slowly go through the shop and I don’t even notice the minutes fly by. As I walk to another shelf, I catch a glimpse of the clock. I should’ve closed the shop half an hour ago but I decide to leave it. I was having fun. What was the harm of staying open a little while longer? As the minutes pass, our chatter becomes less professional and more friendly. We talked and laughed together and soon enough, we’d picked out all his new art supplies.
“Well there’s everything you need!” I say, walking back to the counter. I start counting the price while chatting to him. “That’s £81.99, the easel is on the house for being such an amiable customer. Do come back if you ever need anything else, it was a pleasure to serve you.” I smile sadly, it had been more than a pleasure and I wish we didn’t have to say goodbye now.
“Thank you” he answers, giving me another of his confident smiles “I- I was wondering if umm… this might sound a bit weird but-” his piercing grey eyes quickly shift away, his normally confident appearance fading to show a childlike nervousness. “Before I left home, well, before I was forced out, I was studying anatomy, and well… I think you'd make the perfect model… Would it be alright if I painted you? If you don't mind, of course. Please don't feel forced to accept anything, but I'd love it if you do. And we could get a chance to get to know each other a little better, maybe somewhere where you don't work.” he clears his voice, as though happy to get this over with, and shifts his grey eyes back to me, his confidence returning. A new childish smile splits his face, as though it had never left it.
My eyes widen as I register what he just asked, and I quickly look away, embarrassed. ‘Perfect?’ as the word races through my mind again and again, I feel my face heat a little. Perfect? Me? No one had ever even called me pretty, let alone perfect, but now this man, who looks like a model himself, wants me to model for him and used that word to describe me. I return the smile, although mine is more nervous than childlike. He tilts his head slightly as though reading my emotions but seconds later, he lets out a small laugh which I quickly copy, trying to diffuse the awkwardness that flourished in me throughout this interaction.
“Are you sure you want me? I mean-” I cut off as I watch him nod confidently “alright I'd love to then!” I answer him, flattered, yet I can't stop the slight shake of my hands. What if I mess up? What if he ends up hating me?
“See you then” he says happily, turning away with a wink. I watch him as he walks out, finding myself to be grinning like a child, like him. I only have one thought left, ‘I don't have to say goodbye.’ I stay standing there for a few minutes with this thought before I snap back to reality. My eyes snap to the clock.
“Fuck” I whisper as I work out the time. If my boss finds out I closed the shop two hours late, I'm done for. ‘Oh well, it was worth it’ I think ‘and anyways he might not even find out.’ I start packing my bag when I suddenly realise he didn't give me a name let alone an address, how was I ever going to find him?! My eyes trail back to the door but of course he is long gone by now… I look around, panicked, as though expecting something to magically give me his address and that's when I notice the folded piece of paper on the counter. I slowly open it, my fingers trembling at the thought that it may not be what I think. I flatten out the paper and quickly read the snippet of writing. I smile inwardly, holding the small, unfolded piece of paper, relief slowly flooding through me as I trace the sentence again and again with my eyes, struggling to believe the evening's events.
19:30 tomorrow room 29 Mirror Hotel - Sirius Black
“Sirius Black” I whisper softly, smiling. “It's nice to meet you, Sirius Black”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I try to steady my hand as doubt rises in me again, one thought racing continuously through my mind ‘What if I mess up?’ I reach out and knock on the door hesitantly. I wait for a few seconds, yet it feels like an eternity, before the door is swung open.
“Found my note I see!” he exclaims, standing in the doorway with a huge grin lighting up his face. I smile back, trying to look as confident as he did.
“Here I brought you this” I reply, showing him my bag. I take out a small black book and present it to him, “it’s my favourite book, actually I was reading it when you came into the shop, I thought that maybe...” I trail off, embarrassed. I rub the back of my neck, feeling the warmth radiating from my palm. “I just thought maybe you'd find it interesting, I've read it so many times I practically know it off my heart” I laugh quietly, quickly glancing up at him “sorry I'm rambling”
Sirius looks at me, curiosity in his eyes. A small laugh escapes his lips before he turns to me and takes the book. He flips it, seemingly interested before looking back at me and taking a step back, to free the entrance. “Well why don't you come in?” he asks, before marking a pause, “I'm sorry I don't think I caught your name.”
“I'm Remus.” I respond, looking back up at him.
“Remus, that's a nice name.” he comments, his grin never leaving his face “the book seems interesting! I'll be sure to give it a try” I listen to him talk while I walk into his room, which is surprisingly organised. There isn't much, a table with an old laptop on it, two chairs, a bed, which takes up most of the space, a set of drawers, a small window and, in the corner, the art supplies he'd bought the day before. “You can sit here” he tells me, pushing one of the chairs towards me, I take it and sit down, putting my bag down next to it, unsure what to do next, I watch him walk over to the corner and pick up his art supplies.
“What do I need to do?” I ask, my hands still trembling slightly in my lap.
“Nothing, don't worry” he replies “just sit there and relax, there's nothing to be scared of” he addresses a friendly smile at me, pulling up the other chair to face me and setting up his easel in front of it. He takes out a brush and some paint, mixing them on his palette, and starts moving his hand up and down the canvas in big yet careful gestures. As the minutes pass, I start to feel more relaxed, watching his movements getting smaller and slower. “So, tell me a bit about yourself” he says, his eyes not moving from the canvas.
“Hmm oh well my life isn't very interesting. I grew up here with my parents, they're both gone now. I work in an art shop, as you know, I really like reading and I don't know what else to tell you…” I answer, thinking that my life must be too boring for him.
“That sounds interesting to me, you must know the surroundings pretty well then! Maybe you could show me around a little, I've been here for a few months but I still manage to get lost sometimes.” he tells me, chuckling.
“I'd love to, but only if you show me how to paint” I reply, nodding happily. As the minutes turn into hours and his painting progresses, we keep talking, about everything and nothing. It felt easy to talk to him, no not easy, right. Soon enough, I knew him like he'd been my friend for years. While we talk, his eyes tend to stay on the painting but sometimes they glide over to me, snapping back to the painting seconds later. In what felt like a short period of time, yet was a few hours, the painting was finished.
“Are you ready? If I'm honest, I'm a little nervous but if it's bad, blame it on the fact I couldn't paint for the past few months.” he admitted with a nervous chuckle, grabbing the canvas and hesitantly turning it towards me.
‘wow’
That's it. That's the only thought that went through my head as my eyes met themselves on the canvas. It's so beautiful and…
“Well? What do you think?” he urges nervously. I suddenly notice his hands trembling slightly and his eyes watching me intensely. He always seems so confident, yet I can see the fear in his eyes now.
“It's so… It's stunning… I'm speechless” I reply, looking him in the eyes quickly before turning back to the painting. The painting looked so realistic, my light curly brown hair and pale green eyes standing out against my pale skin, there is only one alteration. Instead of the freckles that normally sprinkle my face, are little stars. They're beautiful, shining like the stars I can now see from the window.
“Your freckles, they're beautiful, they look like the stars in the night sky. I thought I should paint them as such… They're like little beacons of hope and friendship, when I walked into that shop, I never thought I'd make a new friend, and well, thank you for giving me hope.” Sirius looks at me, his eyes sparkling with the same hope he was talking off. As I look at him, straight into his eyes, I feel a smile reach my lips, knowing my eyes have the same sparkle in them. And as our eyes dig deeper into one another, as we share a smile of happiness of who we found, the minutes slow, as though this moment was frozen in time, which I wish could be the case. Suddenly, we both break eye contact, as though embarrassed by the connection we'd both felt in that second. We both look back up to the painting, our eyes meeting again for a second, causing my face to heat a little. I slowly lift myself out of my seat, taking a step towards the painting to get a closer view of the talent etched on the canvas in front of me.
“It's- it's really stunning” I mutter, still speechless, taking yet another step forward. As I slowly edge forward, I notice something, something that had escaped me at first glance, as it usually escapes others' attention. A thin scar, tracing along the bridge of my freckled nose. Freckles which usually hide it, making it hardly noticeable, especially at first glance. A scar that had been given to me when I was only five, by an overexcited grey dog at the park. It's claw had scratched against the skin of my nose, after it had ambushed me. It had left me with a gash, one that never properly healed and could now be observed under the shape of a scar. This scar. The one he had noticed, when no one else had.
“You got my scar” I whisper in amazement. I slowly reach out to touch it, feeling like all that matters now, is this single detail. A small detail yet seeing it there had given me hope. At the last second, I pull my arm back, like an instinct, and, remembering the paint is still wet, I drop my hand to my side.
“Of course I got it, how could I miss it?” as his voice reaches my ears, I glance to my left to find him standing next to me, admiring the same spot as I was. Him. The man who, right now, felt like a dream come true. We both turn to face one another at the same second, almost as though we're in tune with one another. I find myself getting lost in his stormy grey eyes again, knowing that he was looking straight back into my emerald green ones. For a moment, there's no movement, we both stand there in silence, our eyes sparkling at each other, knowing that this is right. A shadow suddenly masks one of his eyes and I understand that a lock of his hair escaped his small bun. I watch it sway slightly before I instinctively take a step forward, closing what little distance is left between us, and reach out. I mark a pause, waiting to see if he'll reject the movement, but nothing happens. Carefully, I grab the small lock of hair and delicately brush it behind his ear.
As I hesitantly move my hand away, Sirius lets out a low throaty laugh, and I suddenly feel compelled to do something I'd never dreamed of. Instead of pulling my hand back, I instinctively slide it down to the back of his neck, cradling it carefully in my hand, and lean forward, closing the distance between us centimetre after centimetre until we collide. It was a short kiss but our movements were coordinated perfectly.
We pull away, almost reluctantly, and I watch his face quickly turn a deep crimson, knowing mine isn’t much better. I watch his eyes, like two storms lost in the middle of all this redness.
“That was… something” my eyes move down, as I utter these two words, as though expecting them to close the distance again. Our faces were still within centimetres of one another, making me struggle not to kiss them again.
“Something utterly spectacular” Sirius laughs breathlessly, intensifying my impulse to lean in again.
The room falls silent again, as I continue to watch the slight quiver on his lips. The only disturbance in the otherwise perfect silence is the sound of light rain splashing against the window and pavement along with our shallow breathing.
For a long while, we stand there, gazing quietly into each other's eyes, not uttering a single word, yet I feel complete, everything I need is right here, in front of me. This man, who has the most luscious hair, elegance and grace radiating from his unpolished appearance, a mischievous yet friendly glint in his eye, who is staring up at me with those mercury eyes.
And in that second, I feel certain that this is where I belong. That being with Sirius is right.
A/N: Okay so clearly I’m watching Shameless and writing Fics as I go. I know I got problems. That’s on meeee. I’ve never written for Lip so don’t @ me if it’s ooc. Set in 6x06. Part 2
Tumblr media
A series of knocks on your dorm room door made you sit up blearily. The mid afternoon sun streamed into your room and you looked over at your roommates bed. It was empty. The incessant knocking turned into frantic pounding as the door remained unanswered. Yawning and stretching you stumbled out of bed, ready to cuss out whoever decided it was a good idea to wake you up.
“Alright shit what do you want?!” You hissed throwing the door open. Lip Gallagher stood there, he ran a hand over his mouth and jaw and let out a heavy breath.
“Y/N fuck can you come with me to talk to Amanda about Helene? Amanda’s always liked you. Maybe she’ll listen if you come.” He rushed out looking behind his shoulder to her dorm room.
You blinked at him and sighed deeply. This was about the pictures of Professor Runyon, of fucking course it was.
“She’s scared of me idiot. Alright fine. Let me put some pants on.” You sighed out and turned away from him. Tugging a random pair from your floor, you shoved them on and turned back to Lip. Usually he’d make some comment about your constant state of half nakedness, but not today. He was standing in your doorway, eyes staring at the floor. His thumb traced his lips. You couldn’t help but notice how bright his blue eyes looked. They always got this way when he was stressed. Something you always thought was both incredibly endearing as well as so fucking sad.
Usually eyes get brighter when their owner is happy and carefree. Not with Lip. The poor boy only knows the feeling of stress so his anatomy worked around it.
You smiled softly and put a hand on his shoulder, scaring him out of his panicked silence.
“It’s gonna be alright. We’ll fix this. It’s gonna be alright Lip.” You murmured rubbing, what you hoped, was soothing circles into his tense shoulder. He let out a deep breath and allowed himself five seconds to calm down before his eyes snapped open and he pulled away from you abruptly.
“Alright let’s go.” His voice was still rushed, but not nearly as fast. He jogged over to Amanda’s dorm room, looked over at you for confirmation, and began banging on her door as loudly as he had yours.
You let out a little laugh and slammed your open palm on the door next to his, yelling at Amanda to open the fuck up.
“Open up Amanda.” He called and you kept your knocking up to keep the noise loud and clear for this horrible person. “Look just tell the board you made a mistake.” Lip called again.
You kicked the door and yelled your own plea to get her to open up, “Say you’re a jealous cunt and you didn’t mean to get her in trouble.” Lip looked at you with an eyebrow raised. You only shrugged and kicked away at her door again before it swung open.
Amanda stood in all her stuck up glory, holding two bags and looking down on the both of you. You wanted to deck her on sight. You never liked her and when you found out she was the one to send out the picture because her itty bitty heart had been broken, you were halfway across campus to break her arm before Lip caught you and carried your swearing form back to your room. You kept your anger in check this time. This was all Lip’s fight and causing this bitch any pain would only result in more harm done.
You leaned on the door frame as Lip took up most of the space in the doorway to plead with Amanda.
“What board?” Amanda snapped looking between the two of you. “Y/N why the fuck are you here?” She huffed.
“Like the committee, the provost.” Lip cut in before you could make a wise ass comment and make Amanda even less likely to help you two out.
“No idea what you’re talking about.” She said and had the audacity to seem irritated with this conversation. You forced down a snarl.
“What do you mean? They didn’t ask you to come in?” You hissed instead. There was no way she was getting out of the mess she created without having any repercussions.
“Nope. Excuse me.” She said dismissing you and attempted to push past you two, but you stepped forward and crowded her, she took a step back and turned to Lip with a sigh.
“Okay, wait, then, then make a statement or post a retraction somewhere.” Lip stuttered looking frantically between the both of you.
“Where?” She demanded.
“Online!” Lip exclaimed, sounding as panicked as he looked. You pursed your lips and crossed your arms. If she kept this “holier than thou” attitude up you were going to make her bleed.
“Do you actually not understand how the Internet works?” Amanda spat. You took a step forward, read to level her only to have Lip pull you back by the waist.
“I don’t care how it works, okay! Helene could lose her job!” Lip shouted before his voice faltered at the end. He squeezed your stomach as a grounding point and you stayed still. Letting him have an anchor in his panic. Amanda jumped in at the sign of weakness.
“Well, maybe she should have thought about that before she started banging her students! And maybe you should learn how to treat the girls that you sleep with better. Ever heard of the campsite rule?” You wanted to punch her right in her snotty nose. You completely agreed with her, but making the dig about how Lip treated people was too far. Amanda knew damn well all she was was a fuck buddy and she created this fantasy of a boyfriend in her mind. It wasn’t Lip’s fault, it was hers.
“The what?” You spoke up, an eyebrow raised as you challenged her. Lip sighed sounding dejected.
“Leave the area in better shape than you found it, asshole. Move.” She spat and knocked her shoulder aggressively into Lip.
“Wait wait wait.” He cried letting go of you to block her path.
“Give me a break.” She whined doing all but stomping her foot down.
“Where are you going?” You said interrupting her tantrum. She huffed and looked down at her bags.
“The Feminazis are after me. Accused me of trying to destroy a high-status female because I’ve internalized my own gender oppression. Two thousand comments on my Facebook page, including death threats. My parents want me to leave campus until it blows over. You’re on your own, Lip.” She turned the lights off in her room before facing Lip again.
She smiled sickly and hissed out. “But then again I guess you always were.”
You sucked in a deep breath, shoved Lip out of the way, and slammed your forehead into Amanda’s nose. Her glasses fell off as she doubled over, gripping her nose in shock and pain. A scream came out of her mouth as she stumbled back into her dorm. You made a move to lunge at her before Lip’s arms grabbed you by the midsection again and hauled you back.
“Y/N that’s enough!” He yelled as you tried to kick out from his hold. Wanting nothing more than to get your hands on the now fake blonde cunt who ruined two peoples lives with her bullsht jealousy. You didn’t like Helene either, fuck you might’ve even hated her. But Lip was falling for her and she made him incredibly happy. So you kept your mouth fucking shut.
“You send out a statement to the board right now you bitch!” You snarled watching as she cried hysterically, her tears mixing in with the blood gushing from her nose. It was now crooked and you stared at her broken nose for as long as possible. Wanting this to be what you remembered when you thought of the fucking skank. The damage she deserved from your own hands.
Lip yanked you as he walked backwards. “Amanda shit, I gotta go!” He yelled as you kicked and flailed, your feet off the ground as Lip hauled you away from his former fuck buddy. He kicked open your door and dumped you on your bed. You scrambled off it and made for the door before Lip was on you again. He forced you back on the bed and straddled you to keep you down.
“Hey hey hey that’s enough! You broke her fucking nose I think you did enough!” Lip sighed and rested his head by your elbow. “We’re fucked. It’s over.”
He sounded so broken as he rolled off you and lay face first in your pillow. All the anger in your body melted out as you took in the sad dejected boy curled up next to you. You ran your hand through his hair and sighed.
“Lip I’m so sorry.” He didn’t say anything just laid there letting you comfort him.
You didn’t know how this would end. Didn’t know if Lip would get expelled or Professor Runyon would lose her job. But you knew whatever the outcome, you were going to be there in Lips corner. Because what Amanda said was dead wrong. Lip wasn’t alone. And he never had been.
Purchase from Amazon Purchase from Somewhere Else (tons of options, including Audible, Kobo, Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, and Apple Books) There’s no spoilers on these slides; all the information in them is basically same stuff you’d read on the back cover/product blurb.
I’m trying to earn a bit of extra money because I had some huge vet bills hit me last month, and it’s looking like my old lady cat is gonna have to be on a specialized diet for the rest of her life (she was already on one, but this new one is gonna be even more expensive). Reblogs are appreciated!
Full image descriptions can be found behind the read more cut.
Thank you to @bisexualbaker for help with the slide descriptions. Slide one: I think you should buy these books (but I am the author so take that with a grain of salt) [Images: Covers of the first four books of Tales of Inthya: The Queen of Ieflaria, Daughter of the Sun, The Queen of Rhodia, The Empress of Xytae.] Slide two: Ok so wait what is going on here? * This is a series of books that you can read with your eyeballs! * There’s also audiobooks of the first two so I guess you can also read it with your earballs! * I don’t know how anatomy works * I majored in English * We’re getting off topic * Every book in this series is a high fantasy romance centered around a f/f couple. Slide three: Book 1: The Queen of Ieflaria * Princess Esofi is engaged to marry Prince Dead Guy. * I dunno why his parents named him that? * Anyway he dies. * But it turns out this is a queernormative setting, so Esofi can just marry Prince Dead Guy’s sister! * Except Adale is all, “I can’t marry you, I’m a mess!” * And Esofi is like, “Yeah I agree, you are a mess.” * But then they both realize Adale is actually cool and smart and cares a lot about people. * Also there are dragons. [Image: Book cover of The Queen of Ieflaria] Slide four: Book 2: Daughter of the Sun * Orsina is a Lawful Good paladin on a Quest. What is her Quest? She doesn’t know. * This lack of information is slowing her down substantially. * Aelia is a minor chaos goddess who has zero worshippers and almost no magic. * Orsina vanquishes Aelia for being Evil. * Or at least for being A Huge Jerk. * But Aelia is not really vanquished and they run into each other again. But Orsina doesn’t recognize her. * They’re gonna fall in love!!! [Image: Cover of Daughter of the Sun] Slide five: Book 3: The Queen of Rhodia * Esofi’s terrible mother gets a copy of book 1 and reads it and is like, “I don’t think so!” and sails to Ieflaria to make a nuisance of herself. * She’s not homophobic or anything. We don’t do that here. * She’s just jealous because Esofi is being favored by their patron goddess. * Orsina and Aelia show up too! * It’s like a crossover. Except they were always in the same setting. But now they’re in the same room. * Also there are even more dragons. [Image: Cover of The Queen of Rhodia] Slide six: Book 4: The Empress of Xytae * Crown Princess Ioanna of Xytae is having a bad time because the national sport in her country is Being A Huge Jerk. * Meanwhile, Princess Vitaliya of Vesolda is having a bad time because her dad is getting remarried. * The princess:everyone else ratio on this planet is a little skewed. * Ioanna’s dad dies and her sister is like, “You can’t be empress if you don’t like * Being A Huge Jerk!” * And everyone clapped. * So now Ioanna has to win the support of her people and get coronated and kiss Vitaliya. [Image: Cover of The Empress of Xytae] Slide seven: Book 5: Daughter of the Moon * This book isn’t getting published until late 2020. But I can tell you a little bit about it. * Princess Netheia, Ioanna’s younger sister, has been found guilty of Being A Huge Jerk. * And exiled to Ieflaria. * She meets Klavida, whose hobbies are studying obscure magic and not wanting anything to do with Netheia. * Klavida’s disdain for Netheia’s behavior sort of makes Netheia want to become a better person. * Unfortunately she has an evil goddess screaming in her brain. [Image: A blue rectangle; text on it reads, "Sorry I do not have the cover art yet; please enjoy this delightful rectangle instead!"] Slide eight: Other miscellaneous facts * Each book is dedicated to a different cat in my life. * My naming choices are bizarre and my audiobook reader deserves an award of some sort for tolerating my nonsense. * The books are all standalones with no cliffhangers or anything but they also weave together like a beautiful tapestry or maybe a plate of spaghetti that eventually leads to a meatball or marriage. * “TWO PRINCESSES CAN’T GET MARRIED BC THEY NEED HEIRS!” The whole thing is explained in the first few pages of book 1. You don’t even need to buy it to see. It’s in the free preview. * CONCLUSION: It would be neat if you bought these books because I am poor and depressed and I’d like to be rich and depressed, ideally.
In Your Dreams - Chapter 1
Looking back to Boscha, terrified, Luz saw that she was suddenly summoning a lot more balls, setting all of them on fire.
She felt her heart sinking.
Oh no.
---
When a grudgby accident shows how fragile humans really are, Boscha is forced to act quickly and Amity's world shatters.
This fic takes place when Luz takes Willow's place in "Wing it like Witches" and explores an alternate ending.
In case the warnings weren't enough, here's another few:
TW blood, violence, injuries, angst, and the characters facing the possibility of death.
Now that everything is cleared up, I hope you have a lot of fun reading!
I'm excited to start creating for this fandom now! ;)
Ao3 / FF.net
---
“It’s after school! Where’s the leader of your loser brigade?”, Boscha greeted Luz in full uniform, flanked by her team. Luz gulped at that but straightened her shoulders.
She had pushed Willow and Gus too hard. She had been the one to get Willow into this mess.
And she was the one to set it right again.
“I’m here on her behalf!”, she made a dramatic break, then she breathed in and propped her hands up on her hips, “We forfeit.”
The shock was visible on the whole team's faces and she could even hear Amity gasping from the sidelines. It had to go that way, Luz told herself, that was the solution to the situation she had created.
“And I’m here to tell you that I’ll take Willows place as your-”, at that she pointed on her fingers, “-water gofer, target practice, whatever you need.”
This caused a little while of silence, before Boscha’s hand sank. She looked down on the ball in her hands and for the first time, Luz heard actual respect in her voice when she spoke.
“Wow, you’re a really good friend.”, that almost made Luz feel at ease. Almost.
Because as soon as she’d said it, Boscha drew a circle and set the grudgby ball on fire. Luz gulped at the hateful smirk Boscha sent in her direction, “And a perfect target!”
The Latina gasped, her eyes widening in shock. She-… Wasn’t actually gonna do that, right?
“Think fast!”, Boscha shouted, then she aimed and threw the flaming ball at her.
Luz could just so jump to the side, grunting at the impact with the ground and the heat of the flaming ball washing over her, before watching a tree behind her falling due to the incredible force with which the young witchling had thrown the ball.
Looking back to Boscha, terrified, Luz saw that she was suddenly summoning a lot more balls, setting all of them on fire.
She felt her heart sinking.
Oh no.
She could just so escape the flaming balls by jumping up and running, yelping in fear as she did. She knew witches were magically enhanced, making them stronger and more resistant, but this was even dangerous for a witch. And her as a human?
Luz didn’t want to know what a sonic ball like the one Boscha liked to cut trees with would do to her human body.
Her memory got hazy when she started running. After a few strides across the field, she was already trying to catch her breath. Damn her cursed nerd endurance. She was never the sporty type!
Flaming and biting balls shot after her left and right when she sprinted into the other direction again, setting off various traps on the field like pillars of fire and spikes, as well as disgusting grabby arms and other, very dangerous things. Luz didn’t think she’d survive this.
She had thought that a lot of times on the Boiling Isles, and she had never actually meant it because her optimism and mostly Eda had ensured that nothing bad would happen.
But right now?
Nobody could stop Boscha. She meant every throw.
This time Luz felt real, actual fear bubbling up in her, clenching her chest and making her breaths go fast. She was doomed this time.
A ball threw her off balance and she stumbled, feeling a sharp pain rippling up her leg. Luz screamed, but she knew Boscha wasn’t taking this seriously. She wouldn’t stop.
“Boscha! B-Boscha, stop, stop, I learned my lesson!”, she tried pleading when she got back up again, trying to hobble away but some spikes blocked her way. She couldn’t run to the sides because she wasn’t fast enough. Turning, she watched Boscha light another ball on fire. In her three eyes, a certain amount of madness flashed, and Luz wondered if she actually wanted to kill her. In the background, Boscha’s teammates finally jumped to action, calling out for their friend and waving their arms while running onto the field, trying to stop her but Boscha wouldn’t.
She didn’t take Luz seriously.
“Having fun yet? Cuz I’m just getting warmed up!”
Luz ripped her arms up at the ball flying towards her. Nobody would be helping her this time.
She was all on her own and she had willingly started this. She didn’t have any glyphs on her.
This was it.
The ball hit her with such a force that she was thrown back against the spikes which had cut off her way. Her arms burned when the flames of the ball started licking on her skin, and she heard a crack when her head connected with the rocks. Her body followed and she felt her feet being ripped off the ground. The force of the blow crushed her spine against the same spike as well while her head fell forwards and she could just so blink before already losing her consciousness.
She never felt herself hitting the ground.
 Boscha hesitated when the human took a hard blow. Her team stopped dead in their tracks.
She at least wanted her back on her feet, it’d be funnier to try and hit her again. A moving target was better practice anyway.
But she didn’t get back up.
The ball fell from Boscha’s hands as she shouted over to the human.
“Hey, get up! The practice isn’t over yet.”
Nothing moved.
The witchling had seen a lot of grudgby matches when growing up, and she had played in a lot herself. She knew what unconsciousness looked like. But she didn’t think the human was actually out. Anyone playing grudgby should be able to take a hit like this. It wasn’t even such a strong one. Any witch would get right back up, the human was just playing.
She huffed as stalked over, inconvenienced by this. She didn’t wanna have to be bothered by this.
When she approached, she suddenly saw red. A lot of red.
All around the human was red, a whole puddle, her hair was damp, and she wasn’t moving.
Immediately, Boscha forgot all antics, her status, and quickly strode over, reaching the human and kneeling in her blood. Her uniform was suddenly wet, but Boscha couldn’t care.
Grudgby could be a cruel sport, exactly what she liked about that.
She just hadn’t thought the human would get so badly injured by that. Human anatomy wasn’t something Boscha knew a lot about, but she decided it’d be better not to move her too much. Humans were fragile, she had heard her parents say once when she and her friends had been little and had played human. Her parents had forbidden her to play human ever again because they were weak. Degenerates.
And now she was feeling the pulse of one, her heart suddenly racing. Her pulse was there, weak but still rhythmic. This was actually scary. Boscha had never seen that much blood, all over the human’s clothes, all over her face and hair, and all over the field, a puddle of blood.
Her team now approached, just when panic bubbled up in her throat, but she suppressed it, thought tactical.
“Cat, get the healing professor, as fast as you can! Immediately!!”
Her friend turned and hexed some wings on her shoes, to fly faster. Skara kneeled next to her and wanted to turn her over but Boscha stopped her, her hands full of blood.
“Don’t do that, we might hurt her more. We have to-”
The human’s pulse was getting erratic. Paused for one, two beats, then it resurfaced again. Boscha realized they might not have the time for the professor to arrive.
Suddenly, a yelp and a scream sounded and she turned to the source. Willow, Gus, and Amity had arrived at the field’s sidelines. Willow reacted fast and covered Gus’ eyes.
Amity leaped.
“BOSCHA!!”, she screamed suddenly, furiously. Shit.
Boscha knew Amity had a crush on the human She hadn’t been subtle in hiding it. Girl had been super obvious with her tomato face.
“Amelia, stop Amity.”, Boscha instructed and returned her attention to the unconscious human while checking her pulse again, “Skara, we might need to move her over. She can’t stay face down like that. Cat should be returning with the healing professor soon.”
“BOSCHA, YOU SORRY EXCUSE FOR A WITCH!!”, Amity screamed from her cage of vines that Amelia had trapped her in. Somewhere deep down, Boscha hurt at her words, but she had to stay focused right now. Amity was emotional and she’d attack her, and touch the human, maybe even try to hug or move her. They couldn’t risk it, “LEMME AT HER, AMELIA, I’LL RIP HER UP!!”
Silently, Boscha was thankful for Willow and Gus not helping Amity. Willow had sent Gus away to get something, water maybe, to keep him distracted, then she came over and sat down next to Boscha while she checked the human’s breathing by leaning down, getting her hair all wet from the blood, but she didn’t even feel that. Her breathing was shallow and uneven, her pulse fading.
“DON’T BE A FUCKING COWARD BOSCHA, FIGHT ME!!”, Amity’s voice broke at the tears forming in her eyes and the sobs bubbling up in her throat but she still pushed against the vines as hard as she could, trying to reach for Boscha who was still far away.
“We need to put her on her back, we might need to do CPR.”, Boscha instructed, her eyes squinted in concentration when she kept feeling the weakening pulse of the human, “Willow, can you make a stretcher of sorts?”
“I SWEAR, BOSCHA, I’LL MAKE YOU FEEL SO SORRY!!”
The girl from the plant track, her rival as she faintly remembered, quickly jumped to action. She created a stretcher from the ground and kicked it to break it off its roots, handing one side to Boscha while staying at Luz’s feet.
“BOSCHA, I SWEAR TO THE TITAN, I’LL KILL YOU!!”
Skara softly cupped the human’s forehead and steadied her hip, while Willow secured her legs. The team captain mirrored Skara’s hand on her forehead and wrapped her arms around the human’s shoulders, and on three, they turned her on her back. She looked awful.
Her brown skin almost looked grey and she wasn’t moving at all. Boscha once again leaned down to check her breathing. Her heart sank.
The human had stopped breathing.
“Fuck. Skara, you hold her shoulder, Willow, her legs. Make sure she doesn’t move around too much. Amelia, come here. You’ll switch with me once I get tired.”
At once, Boscha started pressing down on the human’s chest repeatedly. She didn’t know exactly where to place her hands, because she knew humans didn’t have a bile sac, so she just winged it and put her hands directly over her heart. Counting, she pushed down several times before closing the human’s nose and blowing into her mouth.
Amity only raged more at that, but Boscha didn’t even hear her anymore. The CPR took over all her senses and she went into hyper-focus. Push, push, push a few times, breathe, and again. And again.
Finally, after Boscha switching with Amelia and then back again, cat showed up with her healing professor.
He had brought the Illusions professor with him as well, for safe transport, and after assessing the situation the two of them vanished with the human in a cloud of blue. All that remained were the grudgby girls, Willow and Amity, who had sunk into herself in the vine cage Amelia had created for her, sobbing quietly.
And the big puddle of blood that the human had left here.
Boscha leaned back and fell against the spike that remained standing, against which the human had crashed when she had thrown that ball.
Fuck.
They breathed through for a moment until Willow and Boscha exchanged a gaze. They both had known Amity for a long time. If they didn’t stop her spiral now, she’d let it eat her up. For the first time, Boscha and Willow shared an opinion. They got up and walked over to the cage. Willow sank to her knees next to Amity’s curled-up position and began hugging her, then Amelia released the cage. The vines receded into the ground between Willow’s arms and Amity softly leaned against her old friend, still crying.
Boscha sat down next to them and pulled up her legs, not sure what to say. It had been her fault.
Sure, grudgby was a cruel sport and she had seen a lot of injuries already, but she hadn’t known the human was so fragile that she couldn’t take that hit. A witch would’ve been able to get back up again, to continue after that.
She wouldn’t have attacked the human as wildly if she had known. The picture of the bloodied classmate still shook her, but it was burnt into her memories now. She wouldn’t be able to shake it, ever again, and she felt like she deserved that.
Boscha wasn’t a bad witch. She had enjoyed being in charge, of course, but she had never wanted to hurt someone as badly. She hadn’t known the consequences.
“… I’m sorry…”, she finally mumbled, when the horror settled, “I’m so sorry…”
It wouldn’t bring the human back. She knew that. It wouldn’t make everything okay again.
Much to her surprise, Amity reached out and pulled on her shirt. Boscha looked up to see the puffed and swollen eyes of her friend and scooted closer. She didn’t dare to hug the Blight, but she’d be here for her. Amelia and Skara joined them in their group, as well as Cat. At some point, Gus arrived with some water and snacks for which Willow had sent him. She had figured Gus shouldn’t have to see his friend like this, when already reacting extremely to his flags being broken.
They stayed like this for a little while, until Amity had dozed off against Willow's shoulder, so they called the Blight twins to pick Amity up on the grudgby field so that the grudgby team could go home to change and wash while Willow and Gus would notify Eda.
 After Amity had been picked up by her siblings and everyone else had gone home, Willow and Gus started their way down the way through the forest where Luz had always shown up for school.
Willow still hadn’t changed her clothes. Her knees and sleeves were still full of blood, even if she had scrubbed her hands and arms clean in the school.
This wasn’t gonna be easy. They knew Eda could get very protective of her apprentice, and she had almost started acting like a mother for Luz. Telling her that her apprentice was injured wouldn’t be something Willow would be looking forward to.
She nervously rubbed her arm when they got closer to the Owl House, so much so that Gus stopped her arm by touching her.
“Willow, Eda won’t be mad at us.”, he clarified. Sweet Gus.
“No, of course not. But I don’t like bringing bad news.”, she sighed, “And this is very bad news. Gus, we don’t even know if-…”
Gus remained silent, as did she when her voice died. They didn’t know, couldn’t know. What should they even say? There was an accident and now they didn’t know what had happened to Luz?
Willow sighed again when the Owl House came into view, Hooty spotting them already and swinging in to announce their arrival in his high-pitched voice. Willow and Gus flinched as Eda appeared in the doorframe in what seemed to be a grudgby jacket, making the situation all the more real.
The witch mustered them up and down, she had of course immediately noted the absence of her kid and crossed her arms. A defensive action, Willow noticed. When people were scared, uncomfortable, or caged in they often did that.
“Hey, Eda…”
“So, why didn’t you bring Luz back here? Is she in trouble?”, Eda forced a grin when they got closer, probably not having been able to identify the blood on Willow’s clothing, “Did she pull some kinda prank involving paint?”
But there was no humor or bite in her voice. Willow heard the concern and she bit her lip not to let it out yet. Not yet.
She couldn’t start crying now, because then she wouldn’t stop.
“There-… A few girls from the grudgby team gave us a hard day and Luz challenged them. There was an accident.”
Eda’s ears twitched when her face fell. She connected the dots and suddenly, she knew all too well what that kid had on her clothes. Gus comfortingly placed a hand on Willow's back while Eda felt the world swimming and her head being dizzy. That was blood.
“Mrs. Eda?”, the small one now asked, causing the older witch to look back at him, her vision out of focus, “Luz is now in the Healer’s Coven. If you wanna see her, you can go.”
Right, the Healer’s Coven was neutral ground. Eda stretched out her hand and caught Owlbert flying at her, then she got up on her staff.
“Hop on, kids, I’ll fly you home. Hooty, watch the house. King, come on, hurry up!”
They heard a scurrying sound, then some panting, and finally King appeared in the door Hooty closed behind him, just before he jumped up into Eda’s hair and looked out by her cheek.
“What are we doing? Pickpocketing?”, he asked excitedly.
“We’re visiting Luz, little guy, after flying them home.”, everyone had found a seat on her staff and she gave Owlbert a little smack, “Let’s go! They’ll explain on the way there.”
 The room was dark when Eda entered. King was asleep in her hair and she carefully nestled him out, then she placed Owlbert on the wall and sat down on the lower end of the Healer’s bed, taking King into her lap.
Luz looked grey and pale in the moonlight, and so small in the sheets. She was only a child.
“Hey kid…”, Eda began, but she couldn’t make her voice work so she whispered, “… You’re such a troublemaker. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’ve got that from me.”
The witch chuckled when she reached for her hand, a little cool to the touch but alive. Very much alive.
The healers had done an exceptional job patching her up. They had been able to assure that she wouldn’t suffer any long-lasting consequences and that neither her spine nor her brain would be damaged. Softly, Eda rubbed along the back of her hand, then her gaze wandered over the injuries.
Luz’s arms were bandaged from heavy burns. She’d get some nasty scars from that.
Her face was also a little burned but not as bad as her arms. Her skull had gotten quite a beating and she had lost a lot of blood, but the healers had assured Eda it’d be fine. A bandage around her head still proved the serious injury she had suffered.
Her spine had been injured in multiple places but they could fix it again and now they just had to wait a few days until the sleeping spell wore off, to ensure that Luz wouldn’t move for a bit.
Eda got up to sit down on the sofa in the room and make it a little comfortable. She had a few long days ahead of her.
Could I please ask for belphegor x an mc that's usually really happy and patient, but that's because she bottles up the sad feelings(™️) and one day she just cries somewhere because she dropped something and everything just came out? You dont have to do it though!
Hello! Thank you for this adorable request, anon! I hope I made it some justice! CW: light angst
Standing on your tiptoes, you reach for the red book on the tallest shelf. ‘The anatomy of angels’. It’s a bit of a stretch - you’re not even sure you need it in the first place for your report on the Great Celestial War. Your other books are already piled up on your other arm as your free hand grasps at the tip of it. You hold it by the spine, pulling it out of the shelf, and with it, two other books come tumbling, taking the ones you were holding down with them. You cringe at the noise, thankful for the somewhat empty library. Only a few shushings come your way and you whisper a quick apology back. You look down at the books, all splattered by your feet - and chuckles. It’s a small setback, nothing that would really dismantle your day, but the first tear is already coming down - even as your laugh dies out.
More tears come after the first. And more. So many you can’t even see properly anymore, vision fully marred by the stress plunging at you. At some point you slipped to the floor, holding your knees and hiding your head. The tears stain your uniform and you bite your lips, trying as hard as possible to keep quiet. You didn’t expect for Belphegor to be the one who found you crying on the library, books still scattered around where they fell - finally causing you to collapse as well after such a long week. It has been a mess on Devildom as usual, but on top of that, you are actually supposed to get good grades and stuff, all the while doing your best to keep the most dysfunctional family in all of the realms somewhat together.
Normally you didn’t know what to think of Belphegor. He was still somewhat of a new acquaintance, and despite the fact he is cute as fuck and made you flustered, you haven’t had that many interactions with him to start with.
It was like you were always missing each other: whenever you accepted an invitation to do anything in the group chat, he never showed up to the designated place. The times he had been there when you arrived, he left soon after. Sometimes, he’d call you “human” with way too much intent, and that glint in his eye made you wonder if he actually meant it as an insult if he was avidly trying to avoid you.
It comes as an even bigger surprise when he kneels down in front of you, lightly tapping on your shoulder.  “Are you okay?”  You look upwards. He is staring right at you, eyes barely concealed behind his bangs. You see curiosity in them - genuine worry, almost. “What does it matter?” You ask, more rude than intended. You’re just tired, the toll of the week weighing down on you like bricks.  He seems a little taken aback by your tone, mouth open in the smallest of gasps. “I don’t know.” He admits, crossing his legs and pushing away one of the books on the floor. “I’ve never seen you sad before.” “Oh, don’t worry. No one has.” You wipe at your tears with the back of your hand, scrambling to gather the books. “It’s not anything special, though. It happens all the time.”
He holds your wrist before you can get up. “That’s not okay.”
You give him a weak laugh. “Who cares? It wasn’t even supposed to happen, I wasn’t supposed to cry, I can’t right now.”
“There’s not a right time for crying. It just happens.” He argues softly, letting go of you.
You can still feel the ghost of his touch on your skin. “What would you know about crying? You’re a demon.”
Belphegor chuckles. His eyes fall on the book laying to your left. The basic history of the Great Celestial War. “Not always. It did hurt when I feel, you know. In more ways than others.”
You blush, gazing away. “That’s not what I.. I didn’t mean…”
“It’s okay. We’re talking about you right now, not me.”
You kind of want to talk about him, though.
“We don’t have to. You’re just wasting your time. It’s not like you like me.”
He fully gasps this time. “You think I don’t like you?”
You sniffle. “Yeah? Kind of.”
He stares you down. “You’re a stupid human.”
It hurts a little more than being ignored. “I’m sorry?” Another sniffle.
“I like you.”
You scoff, once again going for the books. “You’ve got a funny way of showing.”
It’s his time to blush. “I’ve got a hard time making friends. It doesn’t mean I don’t like you. Believe me, you’d know if I didn’t.”
“Oh.” His words almost get you back to tearing up, but you hold yourself. You’ve never noticed how much this particular settlement was affecting you. “That’s… good to know.”
“Yeah,” he chuckles again, helping you put the books that had fallen back on the shelves. “But you know…”
You look at him. Deciding ‘The anatomy of angels’ was probably not useful, you put it back as well. “What is it?”
“I like you more when you’re not crying, so… come with me?”
You eye his outstretched hand. “What?” You ask again.
He smiles, eyes crinkling, and Asmo was right - he did have the most beautiful smile you’ve ever seen. “I already texted Beel. A cuddle session never hurt anyone, right?”
AN: So this fic started as an anon that just kept getting longer and became it’s own fic. Which is why I am not yet done answering anons. The idea was so soft and let me tell you anon, I spent many nights just rereading this prompt and thinking it was so very soft. I’m not too happy with how the Master sounds in this as it is more from his POV and I don’t have a great grasp on Dhawan!Master’s POV but I tried my best!
The Master huffed and rolled his eyes at all of the gaudy Valentine's gifts still on display in the store. He honestly believed they should just throw them all out the second it was the 15th. It was bad enough to have to see them before the “most romantic day of the year”. He couldn’t believe that he had to subject himself to this just because you had forgotten something while doing the shopping. Of course, you couldn’t just do without. So someone had to go get what you forgot. Lucky him.
To be fair he probably shouldn’t have volunteered to go for you so you didn’t have to feel embarrassed about the shop staff seeing you come back for something. You had been absolutely adorable when you pressed your face into his chest bemoaning your forgetfulness. It had made him forget how much he hated going shopping like this on Earth. It reminded him too much of the 77 years he had been trapped without a TARDIS. Which always left him in a touchy, annoyed mood.
The two teen boys blocking his way past as they slowly walked down the aisle were pissing him off too. If it wouldn’t cause even more trouble for him he would just TCE them both and be done with it. He took a deep breath. He would just push past them soon and continue on his way. It was fine. He would get what you had forgotten and you would jokingly call him "your hero". Giving him a soft, loving kiss for his troubles. It would be worth the annoyances to make you happy.
The Master had no choice but to listen to the two kid's conversation with the volume they were talking at. Wonderful.
“Look man, it’s complete bullshit that she didn’t tell you she was moving until yesterday!”
“She just wanted us to have a normal date before telling me that we would be going long-distance okay?”
The Master wanted to roll his eyes so hard that they fell out of his skull. He did not want to be stuck listening to lower lifeforms and their romantic struggles. He settled instead for slowly dragging his hand down his face.
"I'm just gonna get her one of those stereotypical bears holding a heart stuffed animals to give her before she moves. It's on sale so it's not going to cost me much if she does end up breaking up with me."
"Fair enough, man. It's your money."
Stereotypical bear? Was this some customary holiday gift or something? The Master had to admit he was curious.
Then he saw them. Dozens of bears of different sizes and colors. Most of which were holding a heart-shaped pillow with the words "I love you" on it. He wanted to be disgusted by them but then the image of you clutching and cuddling a bear after falling asleep while waiting for him to join you entered his thoughts. You would probably love it, and it would be absolutely precious seeing you cuddling a stuffed animal he got for you. He needed to get one for you now. The image would consume his mind until he gave in to it.
He examined a few of them trying to decide which one would be the least insufferable to buy and carry back to you. They all seemed too human of a gift. He couldn't see himself handing you one of these. Besides none of them were the size he imagined. The Master wanted it to be half the size of you, something you could curl around comfortably. Something inhumanly soft for you to smush your face into as he teased you for your bed head and sleepy expression after waking up.
This store may be too human but humans spread across the universe in the future taking their customs and holidays with them. It shouldn't be too hard to find something that fit what he pictured. Something big, soft, and decidedly not human-like. And none of that cliche "I love you" on a heart stuff. He could get something much more profound for you.
The Master rushed back towards the TARDIS. He knew just where to go to get what he wanted. Brushing past you he began to take off immediately.
"Did you get the milk?” You asked in bewilderment at his hasty actions.
“They were out.”
Well fuck. He forgot that there had been a reason he was in that store in the first place. Perhaps he shouldn't have rushed off in such a hurry.
“They were out of milk,” your tone was completely flat.
You definitely didn’t believe his lie. Why didn’t he think of a believable lie instead of just saying the first thing he thought of?
“Okay, fine! I thought of something that I need to buy before I got to the milk. Two birds, one stone situation. I can get both the milk and what I need from the store I am going to.”
You wrapped your arms around him, leaning your head against his body. His body relaxing as you held onto him. He loved you so much for being so understanding.
"Okay, Master. As long as we do get some milk. We really need some so I can bake and you can make us hot chocolate. I'm still jealous that you make hot chocolate so much better than I do. One day I'll learn your secret."
Closing his eyes for just a moment the Master enjoyed the comfort of your embrace. Once the TARDIS landed he reluctantly left your arms. He had a plan to accomplish.
"I'll be back. And this time I won't forget to grab some milk."
"Oooh, you did forget. You admit it!"
He playfully booped your nose. Anyone other than you talking to him like that wouldn't survive the next minute. When you did it, it was fine. In fact, it was encouraged.  He loved it when you were playful with him. He wanted you to have no fear of him, to treat him like an ordinary person. Even if he couldn't be any further from ordinary.
"Well if someone else hadn't forgotten in the first place we wouldn't be in this position."
You covered your face with your hands as you flusteredly cried out, "Nooo, don't remind me!" with a laugh. You were too adorable to handle. He would never get over it. If he ever lost you somewhere - and he would never dare lose you- he could just describe you as adorable and you would be quickly found.
His errand didn’t take long at all, especially when he chose to have the inhuman stuffed animal sent to the TARDIS by teleportation. In no time at all, he was back by your side smiling to himself as he presented you with the milk. He had been successful in getting just the right stuffed animal for you. You would be wonderfully surprised.
"Did you get what you needed?"
You were soft in your curiosity. Not pushing too much for an answer but expressing your interest in what he did.
"Yes. It should be here shortly. I asked for it to be packaged and sent so I didn't have to carry it and the milk."
"I'll be back soon then. I'm just going to go put this away before I manage to forget."
Perfect. By the time you got back to the console room, the box should be here for you to open. He watched you leave. The moment you were gone he lowered the TARDIS shields so that the gift could be delivered. Just as he put the shields back up you walked back in.
"What did you need to get? The box is huge!"
"Open it and find out."
You gave him a wary look as if you feared that he was playing a prank on you. The Master didn't let it bother him, your reaction should more than makeup for your minor distrust. It’s not as if it wasn’t justified. He had played pranks on you this way before. The joyous laughter and smile on your face when you pulled the stuffed animal out of the box sped his hearts up. It was some weird combination of a bunch of standard anatomy of different animal species found in the universe. With fins, tentacles, and antenna. Half the size of you, you could just barely bring your arms completely around it. He had made sure that it was as soft as possible, softer than any other stuffed animal in the universe.
Gasping, you moaned out into the stuffed animal as you smushed your face into it. "Master it's so soft!"
You pranced over to him, your face still pressed into the stuffed animal. You were ever more precious and adorable than he had imagined you would be.
You popped your head out from behind the stuffed animal to ask him curiously, " what does it say, Master?".
He didn't want to admit what it said. It almost felt embarrassing to say.
"What? Don't you know?"
"I can guess but you know that I can't read it! The TARDIS likes teasing me too much."
You playfully pouted at the TARDIS by looking up towards the ceiling. In truth, the reason the TARDIS rarely translated for you within her walls was to ensure the two of you spent time together. The Master never tried to hide how much he adored holding you in his lap as he read to you for hours. So his TARDIS created opportunities for him but refusing to translate while you were in the TARDIS if not necessary. He sighed. He might as well tell you before you assumed it was something as generic as "I love you" written on the heart.
"It says, you are my universe."
He messed up. You had tears starting to form in your eyes. What had he done? This was a terrible idea. His hands moved to cradle your face, prepared to wipe away any tears.
"Oh no, don't cry! Shh, shh , sh. It's okay."
"Sorry, I just- this is just really sweet and I'm a bit overwhelmed. M' not sad if that's what you're worried about Master."
Shifting the stuffed animal to one side you moved in close to hug him. Pressing a soft kiss to his lips. Your lips as sweet and soft as they always were. He could never tire of the sensation of your lips against each other.
"I love you, Master."
It wasn't the first time you had said it. But his heart swelled all the same as this time he held you close in his arms.
the things that we’ll never know [001]
Tumblr media
the one where best friend!harry apologizes
a/n: hi friends :) it’s been a minute... hasn’t it? i’ve been going a bit stir crazy waiting for quarantine to end and the world to feel normal. so, to deal with the angst i have toward the current state of the world, I give you: fine line era angst.
let me know if you’re interested in seeing more from me! i sure miss writing and i think it might be something i get back into these days :) xoxo h
***
Are you still watching?
A banner pops up on your laptop screen, pausing the credits of yet another episode of Grey’s Anatomy. You scroll to the corner, click “yes”, and settle back into your spot; the corner of a well-worn grey sofa. A small grey cat, lovingly named Bean, readjusts her head and falls back asleep against you. The familiar two-beat drum sounds and Netflix shines in its red glory, the only light to illuminate your small space.
It is probably better this way, the darkness.
Having remained almost completely stationary for the past three days, the apartment is showing signs of abandonment and disarray. The space, normally light and airy despite its tiny size, feels cramped and stuffy. Plants droop in their pots as the sun sinks deeper into the sky and you’re too bothered to turn on the string lights. Instead you stay put, wilting, too.
Your laptop is wedged between a plate and bowl from a long-since concluded meal. A lone coffee mug sits cold, the dregs of drip coffee stagnant in the bottom of the cup. It will leave a ring of discoloration when you try to scrub it clean. There is a mess of cords under your legs; a charger, heating pad, headphones.
You’ll untangle them later, you tell yourself.
A sudden rush of action on-screen catches your attention, diverting your thoughts for a few minutes. An ambulance rushes to the hospital and interrupts a love triangle moment. Someone is caught in a longing gaze across the emergency department. Chaos ensues and there’s a dramatic cut to the next scene of hands furiously moving through surgery.
Your phone buzzes next to you and you glance at its screen, blue light casting a gastly glow over your face. It’s nothing important and you swipe to close the app.
A glaring red “1” catches your eye.
Your thumb hovers over the message app, knowing exactly what this text says. It’s remained unread, untouched, for three days now. An internal battle heats up in your brain, and, avoiding the turmoil altogether, you shake your head and lock your phone. It’s tossed aside as you push off of the couch. Netflix continues to play in the background.
You make your way into the kitchen (Bean following, curious) and scour the cabinets for something else to add to your pile of dishes on the coffee table. They’re bare except for a stale, half-eaten loaf of bread, some peanut butter, a box of elbow macaroni, and a can of peaches. A stray protein bar is likely hiding out somewhere in there, too, but you close the cupboard in defeat.
Since when were you so easily shaken by a simple “hi”?
A single laugh floats from your lungs. It happens again, this time out of disbelief.
And then it turns to a sob.
There is nothing simple about this greeting.
[three days earlier]
“Y/n,” Harry sighs. His hand rakes through his curls and leaves them disheveled. “It’s not that difficult of a concept.”
You feel your heart lurch into your throat, the second time this evening. The silence leaves only another opportunity for Harry to drive the wedge deeper between the both of you. He seldom leaves an argument without having the final word.
His eyes find yours amidst the tension. It’s uncomfortable and feels similar to the way your father scolded you as a child. His gaze locks you in place; cold.
“You’re acting as if you can’t see what I see,” he says, voice hardly a whisper. It grows in volume as the emotions well up within his chest. “Feel what I feel… It’s not /there/ anymore, y/n.”
Your lips part in attempts to interject, but are closed just as quickly.
“You’re not here anymore.” Harry’s head shakes and his eyes continue their grip on yours. “I’ve tried. I’ve tried and tried and nothing seems to stick. Not a single goddamn thing! I can’t figure you out, y/n. I’m going crazy trying to understand where I went so wrong.”
An angry fist pounds the table beside him and you stand in your place; fear paralyzes you and you are one with the cold kitchen tile. It’s a standoff now and neither of you move. You can’t move.
“Do you not have anything to say?” he spits, disbelief tinting the outburst. His eyes pity you, searching your face for any semblance of attention. Emotion. Something.
“I…” you begin, swallowing back the lump that’d made its presence known minutes ago. Your mind draws blank as his eyes bore into yours. This feels completely out of left field.
“Nothing?!”
“Harry, please.”
His hands fall to his sides in a final defeat. “No… No. No, y/n.” He’s talking to himself, muttering under his breath. He begins to turn away from the table, phone in hand. The counter is his next pursuit, likely in search of his keys, you presume.
“Where are you going? You ask, snapping to attention when you realize the familiar path he’s taking. He’s done this before. Many people in your life have taken this path, actually.
It’s the one ending in a slammed front door, an empty foyer. You don’t shake those feelings easily.
Harry laughs, “I’m not sure. But I’m not staying here.”
You take a step toward him and try to form a coherent sentence, but your tongue trips in the process. You don’t come up with much, but it’s an attempt.
“But, what about us, Harry? I love you!”
His body turns slowly to face you. He’s got his belongings in hand—the weathered notebook he keeps with him at all times, his keys (in a loop around his fingers)—and a sweater drapes itself over the crook of his elbow. Harry’s hands are full, but his eyes fail to show any sign of life.
“How do you know what love is, y/n?” He asks, tone dripping with doubt. “How do you know what that could possibly mean when you show yourself no love?”
His accusation holds the same comfort as burning your tongue on coffee. Stubbing your toe on the doorframe. A paper cut washed with soap.
When you fail to answer, Harry earns his final word in this argument.
“I can’t stay with someone who doesn’t love herself. I can’t fix you, y/n.”
Instantly, your chest floods cold. It’s an interesting sensation, as your cheeks run warm from anger while the rest of you ceases to function. You’re confident your heart fails to beat any longer; your lungs constrict like a snake around its prey.
“I’m done trying.”
Harry leaves you in the kitchen, the sounds of his boots echoing further and further away from where you stand. The front door shuts with a firm slam and serves as his ‘goodbye’.
You’re left standing in your spot, frozen as your thoughts race silently through your head. It feels like TV static buzzing in your ears and you can’t turn down the volume.
How is silence so deafening?
***
The phone sits in your hand as another /ping!/ sounds. It burns in your hand as you realize whose name sits above the few words on your screen.
Harry (7:54 PM): Y/n… Can we talk?
Your mouth tastes of pennies and you relax your jaw, grimacing at the now-sore part of your lip imprinted by your teeth. The red “2” shines angrily from its spot at the bottom of your phone. With a sigh, you tap on the square and reveal a text-thread you wish you never have to read again.
The blue and grey boxes hold words and emotions from days ago and, in your separation from them, you’re unprepared for the visceral reaction deep within your chest. Your heart drums underneath the cage of your ribs, constant, but worried. Like it knows something you don’t.
Feelings are pushed to the wayside and you begin to type back a response.
You (7:58 PM): Sure.
The grey “typing” bubble appears almost instantly after yours delivers. /He’s been waiting for you to respond/ you realize.
Harry (7:58 PM): It’s such a relief to hear from you, y/n.
Harry (7:59 PM): I miss you.
Grey’s Anatomy plays across the room from you, another heated argument on-screen, but it is drowned out by the thudding of your heart. It’s working in overdrive now.
For days, you did nothing but attempt to forget Harry’s existence: his clothes sat in a pile at the bottom of your closet (despite the overwhelming urge to pull that grey jumper over your shoulders at this moment); your mirror sits bare now that the polaroids of you both are nowhere to be found; his favorite coffee mug, along with his small collection of shot glasses and a teacup with the matching spoon, have been packed away and sit in a small cardboard box beside your kitchen counter.
Your apartment has been picked apart, day by day, to rid Harry of the space. It feels impossible, though, with how much time he spends (spent?) here.
Another text pops up:
Harry (8:07 PM): Y/n, are you there? I really want to make this right.
“Ugh!” you groan, loud enough to make Bean stir from her spot. “Sorry, baby, I’m just…”
Just what? you think to yourself. Just… Frustrated? Confused? Hurt?
Bean nudges your elbow with her tiny head, rubbing against your arm to try and earn some affection. You reach behind her ears and scratch small circles until she begins to purr. It’s hard to focus on anything present right now; you find yourself mulling over things from weeks ago. Swept up in memories once sweet now stab at your heart with a vengeance reserved for the most heinous of crimes.
There was the date at sunset in the park, complete with a chilled bottle of prosecco to celebrate your graduation and a slice of pie from the bakery down the road. The time he surprised you at work with balloons, a bouquet of peonies and eucalyptus (your favorites), and a stupid grin of his face “Just Because”. Remember when Harry decided to decorate your entire apartment for Valentine’s Day because you’d mentioned in passing no one had ever done anything for that holiday growing up, and it was your favorite? There were roses everywhere; Bean had a pink bow on her head, and Harry insisted on baking a heart-shaped cake.
Why did something so seemingly perfect cut even deeper on second thought?
You sigh again, shaking your head at the phone.
“What do I do, Bean?” She chirps in response and you let out a single laugh. “You have it so much easier, you know? No boys to break your heart, no job to take up all of your time.”
You pick her up and hold her in front of you, leaning forward to rest your forehead against hers. Her sandpaper-tongue brushes over your nose and she meows again.
“Okay, sorry.” You put her down and she curls up in your lap, purring against your stomach.
Things move in slow-motion as you think, and you’re not entirely sure how much time has passed. Phone in hand, your fingers anxiously hover over the screen and anticipate a string of words. Each time, though, they feel wrong, and you delete the entire thing.
”I just want to make things right.”
It feels like an internal battle to decipher what Harry means with this pleading. There’s a part of you who wants nothing to do with him, another who desperately wants him back, and the most confusing part, who feels like you were the one in the wrong here. Love is a tumultuous thing; intense, passionate. It feels utterly terrifying in the simplest of ways. Was your lack of self-love really what caused such an uproar in the first place? Had you been blind to your own hatred this whole time?
A knock at the door interrupts your ponderings.
Bean looks up suddenly, ears flickering at the noises from the hall. She jumps from your lap and runs to the dining table, hiding behind its oak legs. You can hardly see her, only the glimmering green of her eyes as they move to survey the apartment.
It takes minimal thought to figure out who stands on the other side of the door and you aren’t sure if it’s wishful thinking or fear of confrontation.
You stand and cautiously approach the hall, legs more like jell-o than limbs. Another knock sounds and the hair on your arms stands on end. This feels like a scene from a horror film; ominous. In attempts to steady your breathing, you don’t reach for the door at first, knowing full-well who stands on the other side.
The floor creaks underneath your right foot, and you swear under your breath. A quick “shit!” before you remember why you’re being so timid in the first place. A grimace crosses your face in wait.
Harry sighs from outside the door. “Y/n, I know you’re right there.”
You don’t say anything and instead look through the peep-hole. His face looks defeated, eyes searching the door for you as if he knows your every move.
“Can we please talk?”
The doorknob seemingly glows in response to his suggestion, simply begging for your touch. It feels entirely wrong to refuse conversation with the boy who, for the past few years, so gingerly held your heart and cared for you more than any family member could have.
He just wants to talk, you remind yourself. A quick talk.
You twist the lock on the knob, a metallic “yes” answering him instead of your own words. Next is the deadbolt, then the chain. The knob feels heavy in your hand as you turn it, but there isn’t any going back now.
Light floods into your apartment from the common hall, accompanied by the stale smell of cigarette smoke. Harry moves only his gaze to meet yours.
“Hi.”
You swallow before answering and realize how tightly you’d been holding your jaw the entire time. “Hi.”
His hands are in his pockets, and, illuminated by the harsh fluorescents of the hallway, he should have looked intimidating. But his shoulders hung low and his eyes were unsure.
Clearly neither of you were ready for this.
“Can I…” Harry starts.
You gesture forward, backing up against the door and allow him to enter.
He hesitates slightly before moving into the entryway, hovering for just a moment. The stiffness in Harry’s shoulders fades slightly as the door shuts behind you but the tension in his presence only increases.
Harry turns to face you, and, against your best interests, seconds pass as minutes. Slowly enough to study over his eyes; shadowy in the dim lighting of your hallway but ever still green. They invite you in like a warm mug of coffee after a chilling walk home from work and you find yourself biting back a grin. It all feels wrong, having him so close.
But, the heart wants what the heart wants, right?
“Can I?” He asks, more succinctly this time.
You nod a single nod, stepping a single step closer. He reaches forward to cup your chin in his hand, tipping your gaze up at his for just a second. That same emerald draws you in just like moments before, a safe embrace.
A welcome home.
Harry stays like this for just a moment more before dropping his hand, a sigh leaves his lips. You’re disheartened at the buildup leaving just as quickly as it’d come on.
“So about that text...” you laugh. He shares a laugh, too, but there’s a hint of pain in his tone.
You anticipate they’ll be a lot more hurt tonight.
Go With the Flow
Tumblr media
Requested by @marli-senpai Thank you again for this request, it was hands down my favorite so far
Word Count: 3.7k
Summary: Aizawa volunteers to help you gain control over your water bending quirk
Pairing: Aizawa x fem!reader, Class 1-A x fem!reader (all platonic)
Your leg bounced rapidly as you impatiently watched the clock. Aiziwa’s lecture went in one in and out the other. Not that it was boring or anything, he was one of your favorite teachers in fact. The simple fact was that every second he spent talking to the class was a second longer away from your after school training.
You could barely get yourself to sleep a wink last night. Every minute of sleep felt like an hour too long for your excited mind. The sun couldn’t come up fast enough.
“Oi idiot, cut that out! You’re making it hard to focus,” Bakugo’s sharp tone sliced through your thoughts, stopping them in their tracks. You halted your movements like a deer in headlights, your mouth gaping as you tried to think of something witty.
You were quite literally saved by the bell as the school bells rang, signaling the end of the day. “Guess that solves your problem,” you smiled apologetically. You hurriedly stuffed your books into your bag, ignoring the annoyed click of his tongue. You waited until everyone had cleared the room before you finally stood from your seat.
There was finally nothing holding you back from beginning your first day of training! And yet you could barely pick up your feet to walk the few steps towards him. “What’re we working on today,” you asked with forced enthusiasm. You hoped Aizawa hadn’t noticed.
He nodded his head towards the door, quietly indicating for you to follow him. Aizawa walked at his own pace- fast enough to feel normal yet slow enough so you could stay a few paces behind. Yeah, he spent all night thinking of ways to help you train, but he still hadn’t the slightest clue of what to do. You had a strong quirk that you refused to use. Perhaps if he found a way to get you to build your trust in yourself…
“Aizawa sensei isn’t the training room back that way?” You glanced over your shoulder at the building that was slowly getting further and further away. Your mind was gradually slipping into panic mode. He did intend to help you, right? You didn’t think of yourself as a lost cause. Your steps faltered, what if he did. What if this was a ruse to get you out of UA?
“It is,” he answered curtly, derailing your chaotic train of thought. “But we’re going to work our way up to there.” He glanced behind him to catch you nod confusedly. He stopped once the two of you reached an open field. “Make me walk.”
You stared at Aizawa’s back in confusion at his blatant request. Your bag slid off your shoulder before plopping down on the ground by your feet.
“Well?” He continued to stare at the trees in front of him.
“But if you can’t see me then you can’t-.” You quickly shut your mouth, realizing this must be the first part of your training. He really did have faith in you. And it wasn’t like he was asking an impossible task. Well, maybe a little. You had never used your quirk on someone, only on your surroundings, but how hard could it be. “Right,” you said more to yourself than anything.
Though he couldn’t see your movements he could feel you focusing on the task. He knew your nerves would be getting to you, but he hoped by showing you he trusted you enough not to even worry about his quirk they could be settled.
You stared at him for what felt like ages. No matter what you tried you couldn’t push away the thoughts of what might go wrong. What if you moved him the wrong way and he couldn’t stop you? You balled up your fist in frustration, a small lump forming in your throat. You wanted to be the best, but you couldn’t even get yourself to do this task. How pathetic. “I- I can’t. I’m sorry. I just can’t.” Your shoulders dropped in defeat as you shut your eyes, desperately trying to will the overwhelming feeling to cry away.
Aizawa quickly turned around, your fragile voice immediately awakening a protective side of him. “Hey, don’t apologize… just do better,” he added the last bit to avoid sounding too mushy. He desperately racked his brain for ideas, your defeated form adding desperation to the matter. “Follow me.” He slowed his pace down this time, allowing you to walk beside him in silence. “I-,” he finally spoke up as the training grounds came into view. “You have a powerful quirk, but a quirk is only as powerful as you let it be. You won’t get the hang of it until you begin to trust yourself and learn your limits.” He chose to avoid explaining the reason he kept his back to you. “Meet me out here in five minutes,” Aizawa quickly added before walking off, leaving you alone with your thoughts.
You mulled over his words as you changed into your training uniform. Maybe he was right. How could you expect to be number one if you didn’t believe in yourself? You didn’t have to be cocky like Bakugo, but you had to start somewhere. The thought scared you if you were being honest. You knew your confidence was going to be harder to build than your skills with your quirk, but what other choice did you have. “I’ve got to trust myself,” you whispered with determination.
The door slammed awkwardly loud behind you as you stormed out of the locker room with newfound enthusiasm. It was a lot quieter than you were used to. Normally the room would be filled with Midoriya’s rambling or Bakugo’s sudden outbursts. But all that could be heard was the sound of your footsteps as you strolled over to where Aizawa stood.
“Stop right there,” he instructed you as he plucked a water balloon out of the bucket by his feet. Hopefully, this would work the way he thought it would otherwise he’d be back to the drawing board again. “I figured we use these until you become comfortable enough with your quirk to use on people.” He carefully tossed the water balloon in the air before catching it again. “For now, I want you to stand in that spot as I throw these your way. All you have to do is stop them before they hit you, got it?” You nodded timidly in response. “If it makes you feel better, I’ll ease up my tosses for now.”
His words from earlier passed through your mind once again. Trust. Your expression hardened with determination, “Let’s do it.”
His first toss was as though he were trying to toss to a baby. You doubted it’d even have enough impact to burst if you failed to stop it. No. You couldn’t think that way. The task was simple. And the worse that could happen would be the balloon pops. You were going to stop every balloon he threw your way.
You tried to recall some quirk advice Midoriya gave you earlier when you told him you’d be training with Aizawa. All you could remember was something about an egg and a microwave, but the correlation between the two was unclear.
Taking a deep breath to still yourself, you focused on the balloon. More specifically you focused on the water inside of it as you channeled your quirk. Mid-air the balloon burst, sending water sprinkling everywhere. You smiled sheepishly at Aizawa, who was clearly trying to hold back a smirk, “Technically it stopped.”
“Next time try without bursting it,” he chuckled lowly.
It took you three days of training by yourself in the mornings and again with Aizawa in the afternoons and two completely soaked outfits before you had figured out how much of your quirk you needed to simply stop the balloon at any time. Then he handed you books on human anatomy and biology to, and you quote, “know the basics of all your enemies.” Sure it was a lot to wrap your brain around considering you still had all of your other homework to do, but the more you learned the more you could feel a shift in your mind. Where it was shifting to you weren’t quite sure, but you could feel it was in a good direction. Before you knew it you were spending your afternoons integrating your fighting style into your water balloon dodging training- which you were thankfully able to move from your spot in now.
Sure, there were days when you’d walk back to your dorm soaked in a mixture of sweat and water from exploding water balloons. There were even days when you felt yourself slip back into your insecure and worrisome ways. But every time you managed to send a water balloon back to Aizawa using nothing but your quirk you could feel a surge of empowerment. It was only a week and a half that had gone by before he started throwing more challenges your way like having you do it blindfolded. Or inviting someone else to come so they both could throw water balloons at you.
Soon enough you found yourself laughing more than you found yourself indulging in your worries and fears. It was like being gifted freedom after years of denial. Everyday tasks involving water became simple exercises for your abilities. You had even messed with Aizawa a handful of times, altering his movements a barely noticeable amount, though he would always send you his death glare. He couldn’t ever really bring himself to be upset at you though. You were thriving. Your newfound confidence in your quirk overflowed into your everyday confidence. It filled him with a sense of pride, knowing he helped you grow.
“Bakugo and Y/L/N, you’re team captains in today’s capture the flag.”
You looked at him in surprise. Really? You? Sure, you were getting better but were you really good enough to be a captain of the team? He looked at you expectantly.
“Hurry up idiot we don’t have all day. I’m ready to kick some ass,” Bakugo barked as he stepped up from the line.
You tried your best to suppress your anxious thoughts as you followed suit. Your team was comprised of Mina, Tsuyu, Tenya, Ochaco, Midoriya, Kirishima, Todoroki, Hagakure, and Momo. “Feel free to have grape,” you whispered to Bakugo, trying to muster up some cocky confidence. “And no hard feelings when my team wins.”
It was a total free for all once Aizawa released the class into the city training environment. Your team had decided to split into pairs of those whos quirks best complemented each other. Which meant you were unanimously voted to be paired with Todoroki, seeing as his ice quirk related to your water quirk. You chose not to tell your team that when it came down to it your partner didn’t really matter. Your water quirk also meant you could control others, not that they’ve ever seen you do it.
It was a double objective game. Not only were you trying to protect your own flags hooked onto your uniforms, but you were also in charge of capturing the enemy’s flag. All while being on a thirty-minute time limit. Because of this, you decided to assign two teams to the direct attack- you and Todoroki and Tenya and Tsuyu. Meanwhile, Ochaco, Mina, and Momo were left guarding the base flag while the others spread out through the area.
The first ten minutes passed with seemingly no action, neither team able to find the other in the vacant city.
“Mina, Yuga, and Rikido are out,” Aizawa’s voice boomed through the intercom, startling you slightly.
Todoroki nudged your side gently before sending a sheet of ice along the ground, capturing Jiro and Kaminari by the ankles. With a quick nod and a flick of your wrist, you transformed his ice into water, dragging the flags down with a wave. A look of surprise momentarily crossed all three of their expressions, you were actually using your quirk.
“Denki, Kyoka, Tsuyu, Tenya, and Koji are out.”
“Hey,” you whispered, dragging Todoroki out of his state of shock. “We still have the challenge to win.” Without another word you continued to scour the area, your mind focused on one thing- proving to yourself you could do this.
“We still have the advantage in numbers,” Todoroki spoke up, taking authority. “It’s probably best to trust our other teammates to guard the flag and take out the other team while we go after the flag.” You couldn’t tell if he was looking at you for confirmation or if he was simply trying to see if you understood. Either way, you nodded in response.
The quietness between you two as you both walked through the streets was intense. In all your time together in class, you’ve never really spoken to each other much. Not on purpose though. He was just quiet and you normally had your own things to work on.
A shadow along the ground ripped you from your thought. “Shoto!” Without fully thinking you used your quirk to force him out of the way just as Tokoyami’s dark shadow attempted to rip his flag. Going with the flow you transferred your focus to Tokoyami, stopping him in his tracks as you charged towards him. You slid along the ground by his feet, wiping his flag from his hip easily.
“Fumikage, Mezo, Momo, Toru, Ochaco and Minoru are out.”
You scampered back over to Todoroki who was still trying to process what you did earlier. “Water,” he muttered to himself with a quiet chuckle.
“Eijiro is out.”
“That means it’s down to us and Midoriya. I’ll go after the flag, Katsuki is most likely there. You go help Midoriya,” Todoroki spouted out. He could see the hesitation in your eyes, but this was the best plan he could think of. He had a better chance in a one on one against Katsuki than you did.
You chewed on your lip nervously, trying to steal your nerves so your words could find their way past your throat. “You help Midoriya, I’ve got Bakugo. You’ve got distance on your side, he’ll need that.” The nerves began to overcome you as Todoroki stood there staring at you.
“Okay.”
It was that easy. You’d be lying if you told yourself you weren’t surprised by his reply. He trusted you with this. You shot him a grateful yet relieved smile before sprinting off to the edge of the city. Your legs burned as you ran with full force towards the unguarded flag. Before you could even see where it was coming from an explosive blast knocked you off your feet. Your jacket barely managed to provide a shield against the rough gravel as you skidded across the street.
“For someone who was all talk that seemed pretty easy,” Katsuki boasted despite still keeping his guard up. He made no movements towards you to rip your flag as you scrambled back to your feet.
You regained your footing, squaring off against him. “I’m not done until that flag,” you nodded towards his, “is in my hands.” Your talk was tough, but you couldn’t seem to shake the bubbling fear building inside of you. You had to be smart about every step you took.
Shaking your head, you rushed at him, preparing an offensive attack. Katsuki scoffed at your movements before sending another blast your way. You rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding getting hit. Behind you, the building groaned from the impact of the blast.
“Think. He won’t let me close enough for hand to hand. So it’s down to quirks.” You dodged another blast. He was trying to keep you at a distance. Sweat dripped down from your chin.
“Izuku, Mashirao, and Hanta are out.”
That’s it! You gathered the sweat off your body, forming a puddle in your hands.
Todoroki rushed to the edge of the city, desperate to see what was going on. It was down to you, him and Bakugo. Another blast rang through the now quiet city. Yet neither name had been called yet which meant you were really holding your own.
Using your quirk you allowed your sweat to discreetly form a thin sheet on the ground, similar to how you’ve seen Todoroki use his ice. You pulled Bakugo towards you, using your sheet of sweat to make him practically glide.
Todoroki could barely through the clearing smoke, but he could make out a very clear ‘what the hell’. He watched as Bakugo took staggering steps towards you. It was like he was taking steps he didn’t want to. Todoroki’s mind flashed back to earlier when you had made him move out of the way.
“Come on blasty,” you mumbled to yourself. Any moment now he’d try to hit you. You glanced at the unstable building he hit earlier. The smell of caramel filled your senses. Now! Unsure of which arm he would use you used you directed both of his arms at the building’s weak point.
One final groan escaped from the building as it began to tumble down. Ignoring his flag you began to sprint to the unguarded team flag. You ran through the falling debris, pushing Katsuki back into safety. All around you debris rained as the building crumbled to the ground, but you couldn’t care less. You could see the flag straight ahead. Your legs felt weightless. Behind you, the building fell with one final crash that sent dust everywhere. You glanced over your shoulder to see Katsuki fuming, using his blasts to help him fly across the debris.
Todoroki couldn’t believe what he saw. He knew you were quirk on your feet in a fight, but he never thought you’d do something so bold. So reckless. So crazy. So awe-inspiring. You weren’t the same Y/n that used to be too scared to use her quirk on even a puddle. Before he could think of what he was doing his legs began to move towards the scene.
“I don’t know what you pulled back there, but I’m not done,” Bakugo barked behind you as he landed in front of the debris.
“But I am,” you called back, though you were speaking of something else. You stopped his every movement as you took the last few steps towards the flag. You plucked it from its place on the pole, but the room remained quiet. Even as everyone followed Aizawa onto the training center.
There were no congratulations as you expected. Or team cheering because of the win. There was just silence and stares. All of your previous confidence was slowly disintegrating under their stares.
“That’s a scary quirk to have,” you heard Mineta whisper to Kaminari.
“I wonder what else she can control,” Iida thought aloud.
“Has she been holding back this whole time?” Even Mina joined the whispering among the class.
“That stunt could’ve seriously harmed her and Bakugo,” Momo spoke with a worried expression.
“Y/n’s team is the winner,” Aizawa spoke plainly. You noticed a conflicting look in his eyes. Like he was proud yet, well you couldn’t quite place a finger on what it was
Katsuki scoffed and jammed his hands into his pockets. “I don’t see the big deal,” he addressed everyone aloud. “We both fought.” He shrugged and walked past you. “Just don’t expect it to be as easy next time. You just caught me off guard today that’s all.” He glanced at you, the determination in his eyes setting ablaze a new desire to continue to train.
You opened your mouth to say something but got drowned out by Kirishima’s exclamation. “That was badass! I volunteer to help you train, I have to see more of your quirk.”
A small blush crept onto your cheeks at the sudden positive attention. You nodded shyly in acknowledgment.
“Me too,” Midoriya pipped in with just as much enthusiasm.
“Awesome! I’ve been reading some books Aizawa sensei gave me and I think I could help recovery girl with healing you.” Your eyes sparkled as you rambled off excitedly. You thought growing confident with your quirk was exhilarating, but this was even better. It felt amazing to be able to talk about your quirk freely and you had Aizawa to thank for it.
Bonus:
“Aizawa Sensei!” You picked your pace up to a jog until you got ahead of him. “What’d you think,” you asked eagerly as you spun to face him.
Aizawa shrugged and suppressed a smile. “You went a little overboard if you ask me.”
“I was caught in the moment- Woah!” You lost your footing, sending you tumbling backward. Aizawa caught one of your flailing arms and helped to sturdy you. “I-.” You looked down at your feet shyly. “Thanks,” you spoke as you wrapped your arms around his waist tightly. “Not just for the fall but for helping me be confident too.” Your emotions were becoming overwhelming. Every worry, anxious thoughts, embarrassment, joy, anything you’ve been trying to suppress these past few weeks was beginning to explode out of you. “I couldn’t have done it without you.”
Aizawa stood frozen in your embrace, unsure of what to do. In all these weeks that have passed, he found himself growing fond of you. You were already one of his favorite students- not that he played favorites- but now he almost thought of you as a daughter. “You could’ve.” That was all he could bring himself to say. Slowly he reciprocated your hug, resting his hand on the back of your head.
He thought of pulling away in case anyone were to come, but decided against it. Instead, he held you as long as he felt you needed, waiting until he felt your arms slacken before he let go. “I’m proud of you if that’s what you wanted to know,” he chuckled. “And as reckless as it looked… It did have an action movie badass look to it.”
Your eyes glistened with tears and for once you weren’t sure if it was from sadness or joy. “Right?! I felt really cool and the adrenaline-.”
You were cut off by Kirishima’s voice across the lawn, “Hey y/n, you ready yet?”
“Yeah one sec,” you yelled out. You turned back to Aizawa with an apologetic look, “sorry, Kirishima wanted to see if anyone could beat me at swimming. But, I’ll see you in class and training on Monday. Bye sensei,” you rambled quickly with a small wave before taking off towards Kirishima, Katsuki, Midoriya, and Todoroki.
Aizawa watched with a small smile playing on his lips knowing you were going to do great things.
