changes and trends in horror-genre films are linked to the anxieties of the culture in its time and place. Vampires are the manifestation of grappling with sexuality; aliens, of foreign influence. Horror from the Cold War is about apathy and annihilation; classic Japanese horror is characterised by “nature’s revenge”; psychological horror plays with anxieties that absorbed its audience, like pregnancy/abortion, mental illness, femininity. Some horror presses on the bruise of being trapped in a situation with upsetting tasks to complete, especially ones that compromise you as a person - reflecting the horrors and anxieties of capitalism etc etc etc. Cosmic horror is slightly out of fashion because our culture is more comfortable with, even wistful for, “the unknown.” Monster horror now has to be aware of itself, as a contingent of people now live in the freedom and comfort of saying “I would willingly, gladly, even preferentially fuck that monster.” But I don’t know much about films or genres: that ground has been covered by cleverer people.
I don’t actually like horror or movies. What interests me at the moment is how horror of the 2020s has an element of perception and paying attention.
Multiple movies in one year discussed monsters that killed you if you perceived them. There are monsters you can’t look at; monsters that kill you instantly if you get their attention. Monsters where you have to be silent, look down, hold still: pray that they pass over you. M Zombies have changed from a hand-waved virus that covers extras in splashy gore, to insidious spores. A disaster film is called Don’t Look Up, a horror film is called Nope. Even trashy nun horror sets up strange premises of keeping your eyes fixed on something as the devil GETS you.
No idea if this is anything. (I haven’t seen any of these things because, unfortunately, I hate them.) Someone who understands better than me could say something clever here, and I hope they do.
But the thing I’m thinking about is what this will look like to the future, as the Victorian sex vampires and Cold War anxieties look to us. I think they’ll have a little sympathy, but they probably won’t. You poor little prey animals, the kids will say, you were awfully afraid of facing up to things, weren’t you?
#this is the sort of observation I make here that people#go off and write their thesis about#so while I’m not expecting to be the first or cleverest person to say this#if you do use it as a springboard#tell me if you get a good grade ok?#I’ll be tremendously proud of you#like if you take a shitpost and use it to craft deep attentive thought on something important#I just think that’s probably the most noble use of a human brain#it makes me want to take off my hat and slam it to the ground in inexpressible emotion#it’s a cowboy hat btw#and I say something like GOLDURN IT THAT KID SURE HAS DELIVERED.#ok so don’t deny me this#especially if you correct me after a long research journey#GOLDURN IT THE KID IS RIGHT!

Batman and Superman discover that supervillains Plasmius and The Tangerine Pinpernil are attacking the same government agents.
Batman and Superman have to investigate.
They track the supervillains down to a planned raid on a Nondescript Government Laboratory. Oracle informs Batman that the building is incredibly suspicious because she can’t figure out what kind of experiments they’ve been running. Best case scenario it’s world destroying weapons. Worst case, probably human experimentation.
The pair of heroes split up. Superman will break through a wall, cause a distraction. Batman will enter through the back, sneak into the secret lair, get the info. Superman will meet the bat down there, and the two will take on the supervillains together when they arrive for whatever this government agency is hiding.
Batman enters through a window. He creeps silently down the stairs and into the entrance to a secret basement. (Unethical experimentation seems very likely) He’s trying to hack into the elevators to head down there, when Superman indicates that he’s been hit with a Kryptonite-laser.
On one hand, Superman is tough. He could get out of this on his own. Batman would be risking the mission by going after his partner. On the other hand, that’s his friend. He needs help. Batman couldn’t forgive himself if Superman was tortured or killed on a mission and Batman could’ve stopped it.
Batman heads over to where Superman had smashed in. He smells the dust in the air before turning the corner. Dozens of agents in white lab coats are armed with energy weapons. They have a bright green glow at the tip, itching to fire at a new target.
Half the guns are pointed at Superman. The other half are pointed at a man in an orange armored hazmat suit: The Orange Pimpernel.
A set of elevators ding and open. A woman in a blue hazmat suit struts forward. The lab coat men part ways for her as she passes them.
The Hazmat woman stares at the Pimpernel. “Jack. I thought you never wanted to see me again.”
“Maddie. If I had known you’d be here I would’ve brought my Nightengale Blasto-Buster. Capable of busting even the most stubborn things into submission”
“But you were unprepared and impulsive as always, Jack. Just like how you brought the alien here. If just one blast from an ecto-gun does this, I wonder what a whole ghost can do. What do you think his immune system will do when he gets possessed? Will it destroy itself? Or maybe it’ll kick the ghost out. Either way, it’ll be valuable data. Thanks for the present Jack. I’m almost tempted to let you live now.” Her grin widens revealing the feral and unhinged woman she is. “Almost”
Batman has already called for backup. He doesn’t want to take on the scientists on his own. He’s outnumbered by a lot, and they’ve got mysterious unknowns weaponry.
“Backup ETA 4 minutes.” Oracle speaks in his ear.
“But that’s where you’re wrong, Maddie.” The Pimpernel booms. “I didn’t invite the alien to work with me. He just crashed the party.”
“So what, you tried to take on one of my bases alone? You’re even dumber than I remember, Jack.”
“And you’re just as much of a heartless cruel woman as I remember.” The man suddenly moves, and dozens of shots fire. He taps a button and a laser shield appears on his arm, blocking the shots of green energy.
He sprints down the hall, towards the staircase Batman came from.
“After him!” The hazmat-suit wearing woman screeches, and the scientists comply, forgetting the Kryptonian in all the fuss.
Batman swings closer to Superman. He’s pale. Blood soaks through the bright blue of his suit. A green glow purges the wound in his chest. It’s deep: Batman can see muscle tissue within the wound.
He grabs the first aid kit from his utility belt. Wraps the wound tightly in gauze, and prays that it’ll be enough.
“Batman” a robotic voice speaks behind him. Batman twists around and grabs a Batarang. He has it ready while he stares at the person behind him. The one who snuck up on the bat.
It’s another woman, based on the body type. Taller than Raccoon, The Pimpernels known accomplice. One in another armored Hazmat suit, but this one is mostly white with black accents. She hands him a flashdrive.
“I’d recommend getting out of here soon. Get your friend here out of the blast zone too. You have…” she pauses a moment “90 seconds.”
Batman slings Superman over his back and sprints away. Despite wanting to go after the supervillains, he doesn’t want a casualty on his hands.
As he runs away from the government laboratory, he hears an engine start. Fleeing the scene on a motorcycle is the Orange Pimpernel and his new accomplice.
The building explodes behind them. Batman has only one thing on his mind:
That was a disaster.
—————
That was a disaster.
The plan was simple: Dad comes in and causes a distraction, getting as many of the Guys in White upstairs as possible. Meanwhile Danny and Vlad head downstairs and rescue the ghosts they’ve been experimenting on. Danny opens a portal, frees the ghosts, trashes the place as well as he can. Vlad protects Danny and acts as backup as needed. Meanwhile, Jazz sneaks in and puts a flashdrive into one of their computers, which should give Tucker back door access into their labs to find more GIW base locations. Ellie rigs up explosives and sets a two minute timer once Danny and dad both give the cue to leave.
It was Jazz’s first mission with the team, and it went very wrong.
Jazz was sneaking into the building when she felt a presence. There shouldn’t have been any people around here based on their initial scouting of the place. But there it was: someone dark, broody, protective, very serious. She looked up, and saw none other than Batman entering above her.
This was bad. Dad could handle a few GIW agents just fine, but if Batman was after him on top of that? He was screwed.
She turned the corner and relayed what she had seen to her team, only to hear a loud crash over the comms. Followed by gunshots from ecto-weaponry.
“Superman has entered the building. GIW shot him down. Appears to be badly injured.”
This was not going according to plan.
Jazz slipped into the shadows, watching Batman head towards where Dad was located.
“Batman’s headed to Dad.”
She relayed that info. Hopefully Batman would be distracted with Superman injured. She had to complete her part of the mission. She headed to the elevators: blocked behind keycard access. She opened one of Tuckers programs to access the elevator…
Only to hear a terrifyingly familiar voice over the coms. “Jack. I thought you never wanted to see me again”
She knew that voice. She recognized it, despite the way that she said ‘Jack’ containing none of the warmth and love it used to.
“Maddie” her dad confirmed it. Jazz panicked. She had no idea her mother was going to be here.
She’d have to schedule therapy for everyone after this.
“All explosives are set and ready” said Ellie over the coms. At least one of them was doing their job right.
“I’m going to head up there and…” Plasmius started.
“No. Protect Danny. I’ll get the getaway ready with Dad.”
“The flashdrive.”
“Dad’s safety is more important.”
Jazz sprinted to where she knew her dad last was. She heard gunshots over the comms and hoped she wasn’t too late…
“Guys…” Ellie said over the comms. “I accidentally set off the timer.”
That wasn’t good. They now had less than two minutes to get out.
“Everyone on evac” jazz ordered through the comms.
“Lockdown protocols been initiated down here. There’s no way out” Vlad said through the comms.
Jazz was panicking. She saw Batman hunched over Superman, applying first aid.
They needed to get out of here. As much as her siblings enjoyed pranking the bat, they didn’t want the man to die.
“Batman” she said behind him. The man whirled around and went into a defensive stance.
In an impulsive move, she handed him the flashdrive. They’d be able to open a line of communication with Batman after this, maybe even go through his files. It wasn’t the original plan, but at least now the flashdrive might be useful.
“I’d reccommend getting out of here soon. Get your friend here out of the blast zone too. You have”
“90 seconds left on the timer, and I’ve found a hole in their ghost shield. Getting out.” Ellie relayed over the comms.
“…90 seconds” Jazz said as she panicked. Batman looked at her seriously, nodded, and then grabbed Superman and fled.
“Can’t find a way over…” started Danny. “There is one way out in this room though”
It was how they found this place, the levels of ectoplasmic energy had suddenly spiked. That meant either a lot of ghosts in danger… or a working ghost portal.
Now that Jazz had found out her mom had been here, she knew it was the second.
“But the blast will destroy the portal! You won’t be able to get back” Jazz panicked. Going from the human world to the ghost zone was always harder than getting back unless you had a giant open door like her parents had built.
This would mean the destruction of every known portal. If there were any others, they were controlled by the guys in white.
Danny would be leaving the world and would be destroying his way back.
“It’s our only option here.” Reasoned Vlad over the comms. “We’ll be alright, Jazz. Just focus on getting you and your dad out of there.”
Jazz nodded and focused on the current mission.
“Sixty seconds” said Ellie over the comms.
Jazz found her dad. He blasted a hole in the wall. She threw her backpack on the ground, as it transformed into a motorcycle.
Jumping in the drivers seat, and her dad behind her, Jazz started it up and went flying into the distance.
“Love you” said her brother over the comms.
“Love you too” she whispered.
Guys in White vans pulled out of the warehouse garage.
Jazz sped forward.
“Ten… Nine…” Ellie said.
Danny’s communicator was full of the static of him heading into the infinite realms.
“Eight… Seven…”
Jazz activated the nitro booster. A burst of speed followed.
“Six… five… four…”
She swerved away from a ravine at the last moment, hopefully outmaneuvering the heavy GIW vehicles.
“Three… two…”
Jazz brushed the tears from her eyes.
“One.”
Behind them, the GIW base exploded.
Danny’s comm cut out, no longer able to transmit after the door had closed.
Jazz rode her bike towards Gotham.
—————
Even in the darkest moments, hope can be found.
Two half ghosts cling to eachother. They don’t know how to return home, but at least they’re lost together.
A small colony of bats looks at a laptop, the one piece of evidence Batman has after the raid. The lights above them flicker.
Sisters help their father over a new set of blueprints. They’ve lost their brother, but with this they could get him back.
A woman in a hazmat suit inspects a sample of Kryptonian blood as it is consumed and transformed by ectoplasm. Maybe today’s accident might have been worth it… with this, everything could change.
DP X DC Prompt #45
Gotham has a new rouge. Except he only steals food and medical supplies in great quantities.
(Jack takes Danny and runs to Gotham after a Reveal gone Wrong where Maddie tries to kill Danny)
#tucker stares at the results of his program. holy fuck he accidentally hacked the batcomputer#dpxdc#abducts your plot to write some tasty meat#this is a gourmet steak of a fanfic#I’m so proud of this writing#it’s got all the drama#and the angst#and I think I did a good job with this Batman because he is both logic and trauma.

Charles has always left Edwin little notes slipped between the pages of his favorite books, in his science equipment, places he knows Edwin loves. Just silly things—post its that say “hi Edwin :)”. doodles of Edwin with his nose stuck in a book. reminders to stock up on wolfsbane. but.
Then, post canon, Edwin tentatively starts dating people. And it’s ridiculous, because Edwin’s right there, all the time, but Charles..misses him a bit. And his heads a mess, and he can’t sort out what the hell he’s feeling most of the time, and whenever he tries to say any of it out loud it comes out rubbish.
So. He writes down some of the shit he can’t say right, and because he’s a coward, hides them so he doesn’t have to see Edwin’s face when he reads them.
then Edwin starts writing back.
Neat lilac blue little envelopes appear in Charles coat pockets. In his bag. Once, in his shoe? Some nights, Edwin will clear his throat and mention something from a letter, offhand, like they’re just picking up conversation, and Charles can pretend they are. That they always have talked about the basement, the belt, the nameless fear that chokes him every time Edwin walks out the door with someone else on his arm.
Sometimes he can’t. The words get stuck in his throat. Edwin’s not mad, he’s maddeningly, stubbornly kind about it, which is worse.
Some nights they trade. A secret for a secret. Charles learns about the novels Edwin used to hide under his mattress, about all the lonely years before Charles got there. About Simon.
Meanwhile, Edwin is losing his mind, because Charles has accidentally stumbled onto what was a fucking courting ritual in his time. Love letters were something engaged couples treasured for years, kept and reread over and over. (Edwin does. keep them in a special box, will take one out and trace the words, tuck it in his breast pocket for courage).
Edwin would rather have to reattach a limb again than lose Charles trust, all the dark and beautiful things he shares with Edwin only. He knows—knows Charles doesn’t mean to make him fall more in love with him.

Finarfin Fades.
No one expects it, no one’s faded in Valinor since Miriel. The War of Wrath is won and he comes back, waving off the courtiers, well wishers, and congratulators with his usual grace, and walks into the palace of Tirion. To rooms abandoned since their owners left so long ago. Winding deeper and deeper his feet take him to what was once Finwë’s favourite garden.
He’s so tired.
He’s fulfilled his promise to Fëanaro and Nolofinwë, to avenge them. To make the agony of their final moments - agony Finarfin felt, falling to the floor screaming as fire and darkness consumed his spirit - count for something. Now Morgoth is finally gone, but he’s not the only one.
His brothers, larger than life, larger than death, are gone. With them his sons. Niece. Nephews. Grandchildren. His daughter is never to return. He Saw little Nelyo’s death in his dreams and is sure hopes for the child’s own sake that Makalaurë will be close behind.
Little remains. Even less on these golden shores.
So Finarfin sits on a bench long overgrown with vines and weeds, and watches the sun filter through the thicket, wishing the ghosts he sees in his father’s garden would flesh out.
He sits. He waits.
And by the time anyone finds him, it’s too late.
…at least he’s smiling again.

𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐀 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐀 – PABLO GAVI
summary. you try to forget about your crush with a certain midfielder.
warnings. switch!gavi, reader likes someone else, kind of public s3x?, & ruining friendships.
a/n. making a series based on some of my fav bad gyal songs <3!! this one is based off santa maria.
the apartment was full of people you knew yet, you felt alone. parties that the boys invited you to always ended up like this. with you alone. every time you thought you’d crossed new boundaries with the guys you were proved wrong with the way they quickly abandoned you for their other friends. at first you didn’t mind you barely knew them anyways but it started to annoy you when you realized you had started to fancy one of them.
your feelings for ferran scared you. you weren’t even sure if you liked him or if you just thought you did because of all the guys he was the one who payed attention to you the most. maybe it was because your love language was affection and every time he placed his arm around you, you couldn’t help but blush. you kept your hopes up that he would one day read your mind and would feel the same way. instead he showed up one day with a girlfriend he had apparently been dating for over a year.
you felt stupid and you still did at the current moment watching them dance together at gavi’s birthday party. you felt like an idiot for thinking that ferran actually liked you. you realized you looked creepy just staring at them so you made your way to backyard.
every time you came to gavi’s house you were always blown away by the view the young midfielder woke up to. you always knew barcelona was a beautiful city but seeing all of it from gavi’s backyard always put it into perspective for you. you’re too entranced by your confusing feelings you don’t realize someone is making their way towards you. it’s not until you’re face to face with gavi that you wipe the tears you didn’t know had formed.
“whiskey?” he offered you the bottle in his head.
“do you even drink whiskey?” you scoffed before laughing at his antics.
“oh, absolutely not. but it was a gift and who am i to say no?” he explained. “are you okay?”
you look up at him and he’s already looking at you with a caring look. it’s probably the most you’ve interacted with him and you wonder why because he seems so sweet.
“yeah-yes. you?” you tried to pretend you were fine.
“well apart from the fact that i wish i was back home rather than here? yeah, i’m fine.” he sighs.
there’s a moment of silence between the two of you but it isn’t awkward. it’s quite comfortable as the two of you just stare at the view. or at least that’s what you think because you’re oblivious to the way he scans your face studying it.
“he’s an idiot you know?” he speaks up.
“who?” ferran. your brain already knows the answer.
“ferran. we may be friends but i don’t like the way he leads you on.” he answers.
“no, it’s my fault i’m an idiot for thinking that there might be something between us.” you groan.
“are you seriously blaming yourself right now?” he begins to raise his voice. “he’s treating you like property and you’re defending him.”
“i’m sorry, are you mad at me? we aren’t even close for you to be so upset about this.” you scoff at his words.
“so, i can’t look out for you because we’re not buddies? that’s so stupid.” he rolls his eyes.
he’s so dramatic.
“there’s a difference between looking out for me and being mean and right now you’re being mean.” you try your best to keep your voice down not wanting to alarm the partying inside.
“how am i being mean?” he scoffs.
“you’re yelling at me for no reason. you and i haven’t even talked alone the whole time we’ve known each other and somehow you think you know what’s best for me. why are you even here? it’s your birthday.” you yell at him.
the more you argue the more he guides you to the side of his apartment. you’re too focused on getting final say in this stupid argument you barely notice how much you’ve been walking away from him until your back hits the wall. you’re trapped between him and the wall. your breath hitches when you see the close proximity between the two of you.
“are you even listening to me?” he asks as he notices how you’ve disassociated to the conversation.
“why are you so concerned with me and ferran?” you ask him softly.
“i just-” he sighs. “you deserve better.”
“you think i don’t know that? every time i see them together it hurts and i know i should move on but i can’t.” you start crying. “i just wish i could forget him.”
the next couple of seconds are a blur but the kiss he gives you is tender and sweet. his brown eyes meet yours as he waits anxiously for your reaction. his shyness kicks in and he’s internally panicking for his actions. sure on the pitch he was some intense player that wasn’t afraid of tackling anyone but with you it was different. he had never been able to muster the confidence to speak to you but now with alcohol and anger in his system he didn’t care anymore.
“i can help you.” he whispers. “forget him.”
you look at him to see if he’s joking but he’s looking at you with such an intensity that only proves he’s not joking. you’re at a loss for words not knowing what to say or even knowing what just happened.
“that’d be mean though.” you let out softly. “i don’t want to use you.”
“i’m asking you though. i want you to use me.” he can feel his cheeks heating up.
once again you stare at him. you don’t know exactly what you’re trying to see in him maybe it’s reassurance or something else. meanwhile, gavi is praying that he didn’t just make a big fool of himself. you step closer to him analyzing his features, his brown eyes boring into yours. they were intoxicating and they were pulling you in.
you think it’s a bad idea but you kiss him anyways. the kiss is hesitant but his lips are tender and he kisses you with so much fervor. you break away from him for a split second before throwing all your morals out the window and leaning in again. this time he cups your jaw with his hands and the kiss is longer and wetter. it’s not long before you’re full on making out with your back against the side of his apartment.
his lips start trailing down your neck leaving wet kisses all over your collarbone. while your hands make their way into his hair tugging it whenever he started sucking on your sensitive skin. the music could be heard from down the street so you don’t even try to suppress your moans which gavi is thankful for. he hasn’t even touched you yet and you’re somehow screaming for him already. he won’t admit it but it definitely boosts his ego.
“gavi wait.” you plead.
“did i do something wrong? sorry, are you okay?” his eyes grow wide with worry.
“no, it’s not that.” you try to compose yourself. “will everything be back to normal if we do this?”
“i-” he starts thinking. “i don’t know but we’ve already crossed boundaries.”
he’s right. friends don’t make out with each other. you shouldn’t even be out here with him. but the feeling of his lips on yours are stronger than your morals. so, you kiss him again.
“gavi?” you ask him.
“yeah?” he pants the make out proving to be a good exercise.
“fuck me.”
“yeah, sure i can do that.” he nods.
he was so cute. how unfortunate that you fell for ferran and not him.
you made it clear that you weren’t interested in foreplay but rather just a quick fuck that would distract. you mumbled a quick maybe next time to the midfielder when he insisted on making you feel good before getting straight into it. as soon as he gets the memo he lifts the bottom of your dress all the way up to your waist. as soon as he sees your panties he can feel his sweatpants getting tighter against him.
“fuck i don’t have a condom.” he groans.
“it’s okay i’m on the pill.” you assure him.
“oh-okay.” he can feel his heart racing.
although you didn’t let him pleasure you, you dip your hand into his pants. you can feel him shiver as you grab his length and begin pumping it. you pause momentarily and take your hand out again to spit on it. gavi on the other hand is close to cumming from the sight alone but he stops himself. if he’s gonna cum it’s going to be inside of you.
“fucking hell you’re good at that.” he groans as you move your hand up and down his shaft.
you pull him into another sloppy kiss and simultaneously lead his length towards your clothed core. you begin rubbing it up and down your core teasing yourself. soon, it’s gavi who grows impatient and quickly moves your panties to the side. the two of you make eye contact before he slides in. your nails dig down his arms as he thrust inside of you filling you to the hilt. he feels so good inside of you.
the pleasure is so much for him he begins releasing profanities all at once you barely understand him.
“is this okay?” he asks as he wraps your leg around his waist so he can hit you even deeper.
“fuck, yeah. you can move now.” you struggle to say.
he starts off slow pulling all the way out before filling you up again. as you close your eyes due to the pleasure he can only admire you. you always look pretty but you somehow have reached a new level of beauty under the moonlight with his dick inside of you. he’s never had such dirty thoughts before. he’s also lucky that he’s wearing a hoodie because your nails are digging so hard into his arms.
as he fastens the pace your hold on him gets stronger not wanting to let go. he sneaks one of his hands up your throat and cups your jaw.
“you look so pretty like this. all fucked up for me.” he rasps.
“just for you gavi.” you whine.
he can’t take it anymore so he turns you around and now your chest is against the wall. he begins thrusting into you even faster than before. you’re thankful he has his arm wrapped around your waist to balance you. his lips attack your neck desperately nipping at the skin wanting to mark you up. you don’t mind it at all or the way he begins to pull on your hair. quite frankly you thought he would be vanilla in bed. so, you’re blown away by his dominance.
“pablo, i’m close.” you whine.
“me too. come on cum for me.” he assures you.
you grow tighter around him before finally letting go. the feeling causing him to chase his own climax. you collapse against his chest and his heavy pants invade your ears. the two of you stay there against the wall trying to collect your breaths. he turns you around before kissing you. the kiss is sweet and long unlike the other ones.
“fuck, how are we going to go in like this?” he pants.
“we’ll just tell them we were laying down looking at the view or the truth which is that you fucked me.” you sigh.
he carefully takes you inside with his arm around your waist to provide you balance. and sure enough as if on cue the trio consisting of pedri, ferran, and eric approach you. when they ask about your appearance the two of you simply lie not owing them any explanation. pedri and eric buy the story not looking too much into it but not the valencian. he’s somehow the only one that notices the love bites on your neck and the way gavi’s hand creeps too close to your ass as the two of you walk away.
when he comes over the next day to ask about it you simply say that you don’t know what he’s talking about. you don’t understand why he’s so angry but quite frankly you don’t care because gavi is currently hiding in your bathroom.

Talon has never been afraid of things that people were typically afraid of. He never understood the fear surrounding spiders—he only found them to be pests that needed to be put outside where they belonged, and he even found some of them cute. Talon never found water frightening, the dark was no issue to him, and he found tighter spaces more cozy than anything. He was scared of monsters, but that felt more like a valid fear since they could actually kill him. But everything else he never understood the fear others had. That is, until he was swept into a different world surrounded by men looking for their respective heroes of Hyrule. Talon discovered that he was terrified of heights. He’s never had to climb anything high up—back then he would have his wife reach high places for him. Now either Malon or Ingo took care of those problems for him since they were both taller than him. But being on this adventure, he had to face heights more times than he’d like, and every time he faced them, his legs would turn into mush and he’d struggle to stand on his own. He always tried to hide it since he already felt like a burden to the other men, but he couldn’t. It was all getting worse when the men found themselves in the mountains, inching closer to cliff-sides that made Talon dizzy. Rusl picked up on Talon’s nervousness and he rested his hand on his shoulder.
“Don’t like heights?”
Talon gave him a look and let out a shaky breath. “Y-you could say that.”
Rusl smiled. “It’ll be ok, we’ll take care of you. And besides, we have Kass here in case we fall!”
The blacksmith gestured to their feathered friend who was chatting with Benji, but it didn’t make Talon feel any better. He didn’t want to put any responsibility on Kass, and he definitely didn’t want to fall in the first place. As the men walked, Talon couldn’t help but notice the cliffside getting closer to them, and he felt himself pressing up against the rocky wall more and more the closer it got. The path turned rocky and rough, and the edge was inches away from his feet. Talon turned away from the cliff, hugging the wall as he shuffled forward. This slowed him down, and the others were far ahead of him, not seeming to care that one wrong step could send them to their death. But Talon didn’t care; he didn’t bother to call for them. He was just focused on his breathing and shuffling along the wall.
“Talon.”
The farmer flinched and looked to his side where Leon was standing, watching him worriedly. “S-sorry,” Talon apologized, and Leon waved it away.
“It’s alright, we just don’t want to accidentally leave you behind. Here,” Leon offered his arm for Talon to grab onto, “you can hang onto me, but the sooner we’re off this path the better.”
Talon let out a breath and complied, not caring that it was childish to do so. Leon walked slowly, yet with confidence as Talon stumbled along. It wasn’t like the first knight to slow down for him, but Talon was grateful for it. He peeked over Leon’s shoulder to spot the others already on the other side, with Rusl watching them anxiously.
“We’re almost there,” Leon assured, and Talon nodded.
“I’m so sorry about this—“ Talon started, but Leon stopped him.
“We all have fears, it’s normal. But that’s why we have each other. We don’t have to face them alone.”
Talon smiled at Leon and they pressed onward. He didn’t know how long they were going for, but it felt like forever. But Leon still held onto him as they walked, so he continued. Sudden shouting from the others made him and Leon pause.
“What’s going on?” He heard Leon yell, but he wasn’t able to hear a response before the sound of crumbling rocks was heard. Leon gasped and he spun around, covering Talon as small rocks and dirt fell on their head. Talon felt his stomach lurch as the mountain shook, and a loud crash was heard in front of them. Leon let go of him and he cursed under his breath. Talon opened his eyes only to see the path in front of them destroyed, and the others hidden by boulders.
“Oh goddesses,” he mumbled, and Leon cupped both hands around his mouth.
“RUSL! AMMON!” He shouted, and it was silent until the two heard a faint shout back. Talon let out a sigh of relief, but was returned to his own predicament. “Well, they’re alive,” Leon muttered, turning to him.
“W-what are we gonna do? The way forward is-is broken!” Talon cried, gesturing to the broken path. Leon hummed and walked towards the edge, then he gave Talon an apologetic look.
“It’s not a far jump…”
Talon’s eyes widened.
“No.”
Leon walked towards him, his hands up defensively. “Talon, that's the only way we can reunite with the others.”
Talon shook his head, but the mountain began shaking again, and another loud crash came behind them. To his horror, the other side was destroyed, and there was shouting from his friends again, this time with the clang of metal. They were being attacked.
Leon grabbed his arm and started to pull him towards the edge. Talon pulled back, stopping him in his tracks.
“Talon, we need to go. Now!”
“B-but—but we—“
“I know you’re scared, but we must get to the others or else we’ll be crushed by rocks!” Leon turned to the gap and ran towards it, jumping towards the other side. It didn’t seem to take much effort for him, but it didn’t make Talon feel much better. “Talon please!” Leon tried again, his hand extended. “It’s going to be ok, we’re close to the end!”
Talon swallowed hard, his heart threatening to beat out of his chest. He had to be brave—just this once.
The farmer started to slowly move towards the edge, his legs shaking uncontrollably as he shuffled. Parts of the cliffside began to give way, and it nearly made Talon fall to his knees, but with Leon pleading for him to hurry, he continued to move forward. He reached the cliff edge and he felt himself grow nauseous as he glanced over the edge. That was a mistake.
“Come on, Talon!” Leon pressed, his hand extended. Talon paused for a moment before letting out a breath.
“J-just give me a moment—“
“You don’t have a moment! Don’t think about the cliff, just jump!”
Talon swallowed again, his whole body shaking now. He shuffled closer and closer to the edge, feeling weaker each step he took. Leon was clearly growing impatient, but he gave Talon a confident look. He could do this. He had to.
“Run and jump, Talon,” Leon said, waving his arm towards him, and the farmer nodded. He just had to trust himself. Talon took a small step back and took a deep breath, then ran to the cliffside. But as his foot hit the edge, the ground beneath him crumbled, and he yelped as he began to slide over the edge. Talon’s hands were waving wildly, and he miraculously was able to grab onto something, stopping his fall.
“TALON!” The farmer looked up to see Leon reaching out for him, a more desperate look in his eyes. “Grab on!”
Talon was growing hysterical as the only thing stopping him from plunging to his death was his grip on the rocks embedded into the rocky wall. He squeezed his eyes shut, not trusting his strength to grab onto Leon.
“Talon please!”
The farmer looked up at Leon.
“It’s going to be ok,” the first knight assured, inching closer to him. “I won’t let go, just trust yourself, and trust me.”
Talon swallowed again, and he nodded. Using all the strength he had, he began to reach for Leon. Their hands were inches away from each other, and with one last effort, Talon swung himself, and their hands clasped together. Talon smiled relieved, as did Leon.
“It’s going to be ok,” he said again, starting to pull. But Talon heard something, an arrow shooting through the air, and Leon let out a pained yell as it was buried into his back. A sudden electric shock went through both of them, and Talon yelped as he lost all strength in his grip, and he let go of Leon’s limp hand. He could do nothing but watch as Leon and the path grew smaller and smaller as he plunged to the world below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talon awoke with a jolt. He instinctively started to feel himself, checking for injuries, but he found none. He let out a loud sigh of relief, rubbing his hand against his head as everything came back to him. Was it all a nightmare? He didn’t know what else it could’ve been—he fell. Not even a tough Hylian would’ve been able to survive a fall like that. Yet… it felt so real…
Talon rested his hand on his heart and attempted to slow down his breathing. Whatever it was, he was still worked up over it; beads of sweat were beginning to drip down his forehead, and his throat hurt as though he was about to cry. He glanced over to his left and found himself in a clearing surrounded by trees, but no one else was there. He frowned and turned his head to the other side and found a shallow spring with fairies gently floating around it. Yet no sign of anyone. He sat up and flinched at a sharp pain going through his ribs. He groaned and rubbed at the area, trying to breathe in a way to not make the pain worse. Why was he hurt? What happened? Where was everyone? Talon’s questioning thoughts were interrupted when he heard movement behind him, and he spun around only for his heart to stop at the sight.
A large man was watching him from the shadows of the trees. He had long white hair that sat on his shoulders, with strange markings decorating his cheeks and forehead. But what scared Talon the most were the bright, white eyes staring back at him. The man began to move towards Talon, and the farmer began to scramble away despite his aching side.
“N-no no no! Stay away! Please!” Talon begged as the man reached him in only a few strides, but he stopped in front him.
“Be at peace, Talon. I will not harm you,” the strange man said, his hand raised in a way to calm him. Talon’s mind went blank as he stared at the large man, his eyes feeling like they were popping out of his sockets.
“D-do I—do I know you?” He stammered, fearing to anger him. The man’s expression was blank as he stared back at him, but he shook his head.
“No. But I know you.”
That certainly didn’t tell Talon anything. He looked side to side again, hoping to find one of his friends, but he remained alone with the strange man who somehow knew him. He swallowed and sat up, once again cradling his side with a wince.
“Um… Who—who are you?” Talon tried again, and the man simply kneeled in front of him, his expression continuing to remain blank. He was silent for a moment, and Talon wondered if he even heard him, but he finally spoke up.
“I am called the Fierce Deity,” he answered.
“Oh.” Well that still didn’t answer anything for Talon. But he supposed it was better than nothing. “Well… Uh… nice to meet you then. Um… Can I just call you Fierce? Or… something?”
Fierce’s expression was making Talon grow uncomfortable. He couldn’t tell what he was thinking, or if he was thinking at all. Was he even a Hylian?
“You may call me whatever you like,” he said after a long moment of silence. Talon nodded, and he began to lean back, his whole body beginning to shake. He fell backwards and let out a sigh, staring at the sky. With this… Fierce Deity here… It was becoming harder and harder to explain the previous events as a dream. Fierce suddenly came into his view, and Talon’s eyes widened.
“Wh-what?”
“Are you alright?”
Talon let out another sigh, rubbing his ribs. “I–I don’t know. My ribs kinda hurt. And I’m confused. I don’t know where I am, I don’t know what happened to me, I don’t know how you know me or what you even are. I’m just—” Talon’s voice began to shake and he rested his hand on his eyes. “I’m so confused.”
Fierce’s eyes squinted slightly and he left Talon’s view. “I can explain everything to you Talon, but first—” A twinkling sound was heard, and Fierce entered his vision again, this time with a fairy. “Let’s heal your side.”
Talon frowned, but the fairy floated towards him before he could say anything. In a blink of an eye, the fairy swirled around him, and his side suddenly stopped aching. Talon sat up, staring at his side in surprise. He always knew about the fairies’ abilities to heal, but he never experienced such a thing himself. It was incredible. He looked around him but found that the fairy disappeared. He glanced up at Fierce confused, who picked up on his confusion.
“It’s alright, the fairy only needs to return to a great fairy to rejuvenate her power,” he explained.
Talon nodded and looked down at his side, still amazed by the missing injury. Goddesses, he almost wished he could do that as well.
“It is fortunate that you fell closeby to a fairy fountain,” Fierce continued to explain, and Talon froze. Fell. So Talon did fall, so he…?
“What happened?”
Fierce turned to him and once again kneeled down. “You died.”
Talon’s mind went blank. “What?”
“You died.” He repeated, hitting Talon harder the second time.
“I… died?” Talon repeated himself, feeling his stomach sink to the ground. He died. That fall killed him. How was he alive? Did the fairies save him? Did he die when he hit the ground? His friends…
Did they all think he was dead?
Talon began to grow nauseous, and he ran his hand through his hair. “I died…”
Fierce watched him silently as Talon continued to look down on himself. There was no evidence from the fall, save for his aching ribs, but the fairy healed that away.
“Is-is it true then?” Talon asked in a quiet tone, his voice shaking uncontrollably. Fierce tilted his head which was the first emotion he’s ever seen him express. “Is it true that fairies heal you, even after death?”
Fierce was silent for a moment. “Only immediately after you die. If you die long before you can get to a fairy, then you’ll need fairy’s blood.”
Talon felt the blood drain from his face. Fairy’s blood was extremely illegal in Hyrule. In order to use blood from a fairy, it would have to be killed. To kill a divine creature sent from the goddesses themselves was an act of blasphemy. Did Fierce… kill a fairy to save him?
“You… you didn’t…” Talon started, but he felt his stomach churn, and he covered his mouth, feeling like he was about to vomit. Fierce’s eyes squinted at him, once again showing his confusion. “You didn’t—you didn’t kill a fairy did you?” Talon was able to force out.
“No, you died as soon as I reached the fountain. The fairies wasted no time in helping you.”
Talon felt a heavy weight lift from his shoulders and he let out a loud sigh of relief. “Thank the goddesses. I couldn’t live with myself if I was responsible for a fairy’s death.”
The corner of Fierce’s mouth was curled up in a smile, but it went away so quickly Talon thought he imagined it. “I could never harm Hylia’s creatures.”
Talon frowned. Hylia? “Right, well… Thank you for saving my life,” Talon finally said, and Fierce nodded.
“Of course. It is my desire to help Link and those he cares about.”
Talon frowned again. “So you know Link… How—How do you know him? How do you know me?”
“You are Malon’s father.”
Talon nodded slightly. “How do you know my daughter?”
“She is Link’s wife.”
“Ok… And how do you know Link?”
Fierce’s empty eyes stared at him, and Talon swallowed, wishing he could read what he was thinking.
“Link saved me from an eternal fate in Termina,” he finally answered.
It was Talon’s turn to stare. Termina. He’s heard that name before…
“Before I ever saw Link, I always believed that mortals were all the same,” Fierce began, his eyes half-closed as if he were looking down. “They are selfish, greedy, and cruel. They’ll lie to you to benefit them, they’ll steal from you, they’ll hurt you. They use you and then give nothing in return. They imprison you when you have done nothing but help them.” Fierce’s voice had a hint of anger that sent a chill up Talon’s spine. “Link taught me otherwise. When Termina was threatened with destruction, he was the only one who set out and did something about it. I watched him help countless people when it didn’t benefit him; I watched him express compassion that was lacking from other mortals, and I watched him defeat evil, and save Termina.”
Realization hit Talon. Termina. He remembered Link telling him a story about a moon falling in a land and him going back in time over and over again. He always chalked it up as a child’s imagination, but now… was it all real? Did Talon brush his previous adventures away because he didn’t believe him? Guilt crept up on Talon. It was no wonder why he stopped telling Talon his stories. Fierce picked up on his guilt and tilted his head.
“What’s wrong?”
“N-nothing I just… I think I remember Link telling me about Termina… it’s… it’s real?”
Fierce nodded. “Link understands why you don’t believe him.”
Talon was taken aback. “Oh… well…”
“Do not feel guilty for not believing him.”
“… It probably felt like he had no one to talk to though…” Talon sighed. It was no wonder why Link was always so mature and jaded for a child. If everything he told him was true… poor Link.
“He has Malon.”
He supposed that was true, but regardless, he wasn’t there for Link like he should’ve been. He wondered if he would even want to see him again after this adventure…
“You have no idea how much you mean to him,” Fierce continued when Talon remained silent. “Everything you did for him, he cannot ignore it, nor can I.”
He didn’t feel like he deserved such talk. He didn’t even know why or how the deity knew about any of it. Fierce was large and stood out from the rest of the world like a sore thumb. How did he never notice him there, watching him and his family for the past fifteen years? The thought of it all was making him grow uncomfortable, so he decided to change the subject. “So… Termina… what happened after Link saved it?”
Fierce’s eyes went half closed again. “I’m not sure how he did it, but he left Termina, and he took me with him. I was doomed to remain in Termina forever, away from my Hylia. But because of him, I was able to return to her land.”
“You keep mentioning Hylia, is that a person?”
Despite having a blank expression, Fierce gave Talon a look as if he was stupid. “Hylia, the one who created your kind and Hyrule.”
Talon slowly nodded despite not understanding. He’s never heard of a Hylia who created Hyrule. He always thought it was three golden goddesses. If this Hylia created the land he called home, why hasn’t he ever heard of her?
“I could’ve left Link as soon as I was in Hyrule, but I instantly felt an emptiness where Hylia used to be. Judging by your lack of knowledge of her, I take it she no longer resides here?”
“Uh, no I guess not…”
Fierce stared long and hard at him before turning away. “I see. I was always curious since meeting Link, if Hylia’s influence on the world changed mortal’s nature. But, I suppose it makes sense that they were never influenced by the goddess herself. When Link returned to Hyrule he grew ill and didn’t have the strength to carry on. The mortals simply passed him by, which went against what Hylia believed in.”
Familiarity sparked in Talon. He remembered finding Link again in the middle of Hyrule field, burning up with a terrible fever. So Fierce was watching him the whole time. Where was he?
“You proved me wrong again, Talon. Not all mortals are selfish and greedy. Some are… good, and pure…”
“Wait, what? I proved you wrong? How?”
Fierce gave him another look. “You helped Link, and expected nothing in return.”
Talon frowned. “Is this about when I found him with a fever then? Trust me, I ain’t special for doin’ that.”
“You saved him, Talon. That’s not a small thing.”
“Oh come on! He was a sick kid in the middle of the field! Anyone would’ve helped him!”
“No. No one did.”
Talon froze. “What do ya mean no one helped him?”
“Like I said. The mortals passed him by. Link asked around Kakariko and Castle town for help, but he had no money. No one helped him.” Fierce’s voice grew angry again until his face turned to Talon fully. “You were the only one who reached out to him. He had given up at that point.”
Talon stared at him, shocked. It put everything from that time into perspective for him. Knowing Link, an eleven-year-old boy, tried to get help, but no one did? That didn’t seem possible, no one was that heartless.
“That’s how I know you. I saw the way you and Malon treated him. You may think you’re not a good person because you don’t believe him, but that does not erase all the good you’ve done for him. You restored my faith in mortals, and you saved Link. For that, I thank you.” Fierce bowed slightly. Talon felt his face flush and he turned away. He was starting to hate this praise. It almost felt wrong, especially from a deity.
“It… it really was nothin’. But… um… really I should be the one thankin’ you… for… you know… savin’ my life?”
Fierce squinted his eyes again. “You already thanked me.”
“Oh, well… It certainly doesn’t hurt to thank you again, now does it?”
Fierce stared blankly once again. “Why?”
“Well, like you said, it ain’t a small thing.”
Fierce stared for a moment, then turned away. “You mortals confuse me.”
Talon chuckled. “Well if it makes ya feel any better, mortals confuse me too.”
“But you’re a mortal.”
“Exactly.”
Though it was subtle, Talon could almost pick up an annoyed expression on Fierce’s face, and he couldn’t tell if he should laugh at it or not. They both remained silent for a while, until one more question went through Talon’s brain.
“What… are you?” He asked. Fierce looked contemplative as he looked down at his hand, and he glanced up at Talon.
“I’m not sure. I suppose I am what they call a deity. But I have no divine power unlike the others. A demon is a more appropriate thing to call me.”
Fear pricked at Talon’s chest and he turned away. “So you’re a servant to evil?”
For the first time, Fierce’s expression grew dark, and Talon leaned back. Oh no.
“I will never serve Demise,” he growled. Talon nodded, yet continuing to not understand anything he was saying.
“R-right! Well then… you’re no demon!”
“That’s what we were called in Termina.”
“Well, lucky you, this ain’t Termina.”
Fierce’s expression softened and he didn’t press any further. Talon supposed no one knew what Fierce was, but he began to feel less of a threat to him the more he talked to him. Sort of.
“You should get some rest,” Fierce finally said, standing up. “Fairies don’t rejuvenate energy.”
“Oh,” Talon looked down at himself, admittedly still feeling exhausted from before. But… “My friends will be out lookin’ for me. A-and the puppeteer too… I reckon he’s the reason I fell down the mountain.”
“I will keep watch. But you must restore your strength if you are to continue on.”
Talon sighed. The others could be in danger—Leon could be in danger, and he’d be none the wiser. But his heavy eyelids fought against him and he simply laid back, staring sadly at the sky. His mind began to run rampant over everything that happened to him, and he was struggling to calm himself down so he could rest. He died, he was resurrected, Leon was shot with an arrow, and his friends were either dead, fighting, or captured. How was he going to reunite with them? Will Kass fly down to search for him? Will they try to move down the mountain to find him? Or will they continue on, with Talon completely separated from them? Anxiety pricked at Talon; he couldn’t travel alone, even with a deity at his side. He was a farmer, not a traveler. He wouldn’t survive on his own and he wouldn’t know what to do if something happened. His heart already ached for his home and for his daughter, he didn’t feel like he could handle anymore stress. Tears pricked at his eyes and he rubbed his face, feeling a sob threatening to escape his throat. He was spiraling; no matter how much he tried to not think about his current situation, he couldn’t help but only think about it. It was all too much—this whole adventure was too much. Just as he felt himself go into panic, a soft melody suddenly filled the air. It was a gentle, rising melody that put Talon’s mind at ease. He felt his body relax and his eyes grow heavy, and a thought went through his head.
You’re going to be ok.
Talon took in a shaky breath, tears threatening to spill, but the gentle melody continued playing, and he was finally able to fall asleep.
Did you know? May 9 is considered “Makeup Day” in Japan. This is because Japan has various pseudo-holidays based on date puns. In this case. “May 9” is said like “Mei-ku”, where “ku” is 9. “Mei-ku” also sounds like how you’d say “makeup” with Japanese phonetics. Hence, May 9 is “Makeup Day”!
In honor of that, I feel compelled to inform you that Vil ranked #1 in a poll asking “which characters do you think look good in makeup?” The responses were collected from numan (a digital magazine primarily reporting otaku girl media) readers.
He’s out here destroying gender norms as per usual 💅
As soon as they come off the track, things get messy. Both boys are covered in dirt and grime, striped with grease from the broken wheels, bleeding sluggishly from various scraps. Sherman has his non-flailing hand clamped to an oozing wound on the side of his neck, and Will is limping.
“—and I cannot fucking believe you, Solace! All I asked for was effort!”
“Oh, forgive me,” Will says sarcastically, finally close enough to hear. “In the hustle and bustle of being shot at, I made a couple errors.”
“That gonna be your attitude in battle? ‘Oh, sorry, there was a monster chasing me so I lost all focus —’”
“Battles are not usually fought on a chariot going a hundred fucking miles per hour!”
“That’s no excuse! You need to be —”
“What, Sherman, fucking what? What indisputable flaw do I have, oh great one, that needs to be so desperately remedied?”
It’s startling when Will’s composure cracks. When he goes from bitey and sarcastic, eye-rolling from his usual distance, to right in Sherman’s face. It’s eerie to see him at his full height, no slouching, reminding anyone watching that yeah, actually, their laidback medic is six-two, strong, capable, in more ways than what they’re used to.
Sherman, in usual Ares kid fashion, doesn’t even flinch.
“Your reflexes, for starters,” he says coolly. “No matter what you do, Solace, you’re always one second too fucking late.”
A collective gasp ricochets through the gathered campers. The tension rackets up so rapidly that Nico coughs, lungs suddenly constricted. Will rears back so violently Nico is half-convinced Sherman actual punched him.
Sherman, for his part, seems to realise he’s crossed some kind of line. The cold look on his face twists into a scowl, uncomfortable and apologetic at once. “Look, Will, I just mean —”
“You don’t get to say that to me.”
Will’s quiet voice seems to echo through the entirety of the valley, cutting through laboured breathing of charioteers, pegasus neighing, even the crashing of the waves in the distant shore — everything goes silent.
Nico likes to think he knows Will pretty well. He knows what he sounds like when he’s giggly, watching his siblings argue about nothing; when he’s excitable, rambling about his newest obsession; when he can’t choose between amused and stern at whatever dumb thing Nico has gotten himself into. He knows what he sounds like when he’s exhausted, too, overworked and done with everything; when he’s annoyed, when he’s hurt and sad.
But he’s never heard Will sound so dangerous.
“Of all people.” His words are articulated, deliberate. The usual warmth of his eyes is gone. He’s completely still in a way me never is outside of surgery — no shaking in his perpetually trembling hands, no bounce to his curls, none of the constant energy that seems to constantly exude off him. Still, cold. Icy. “You do not get to talk to me about being one second to late.”
Sherman looks stricken. Guilt is written across each of his features, and for a second he steps back — as if afraid.
“Will, I —”
The son of Apollo turns without another word, striding over to the distant tree line and disappearing into the woods. No one chases after him.
No one even moves.
Thinking very hard about an AU idea of mine. Reluctant king Sabo AU!
In which Sabo isn’t saved by Dragon, but survives long enough to drift ashore and be saved by the doctors of Goa Kingdom, who do so only to ransom his medical bills from Sabo’s parents. Sabo’s parents take him back, thinking that his amnesia makes him a clean slate, but Sabo, young and stubborn and unsure of his entire identity, knows that everything is wrong and runs again, and again, and again.
Until at some point, he meets the Revolutionaries, and realizes that he can be useful to them, provide them information, make something good of an inescapable situation. From then on, he starts acting the noble that he was born as, in order to be a more useful informant to the Revolutionaries, until sunk cost fallacy hits and he believes that being a noble is the only way that he can be useful to the Revolutionaries. So at that point, why not take it all the way?
At 17, Sabo becomes one of Princess Sarie’s suitors, and at 17, he has doubts about using the princess for his own goals. Sarie is a romantic, and she wants a dramatic fairy tale of a romance, and she was already charmed, but the moment Sabo opens up to her about not wanting to use her to get to the throne, having lofty ambitions of helping the people (just not the people she thinks he’s talking about), Sabo becomes the one she simply must marry, because surely if she tries hard enough, she can make him love her back.
Soon after, the king and his son die. Sarie’s father and brother die. And while Sabo conveniently ascends to the throne, he also swiftly implicates his father, Outlook, in the assassination of all heirs to the throne, resulting in Outlook’s arrest and subsequent execution. And thus, at 18, Sabo becomes king, and begins to gradually institute great changes to Goa Kingdom.
Design-wise, Sabo wears an eyepatch because his damaged eye is considered a grotesque sight by nobles’ standards. Under the eyepatch, he wears heavy makeup to hide the burn scar. These are both at the behest of his birth parents, who spin a story about Sabo having been born half blind to hide the fact that Sabo had been shot by a Celestial Dragon and save face. To those who have seen his scar, they fabricate a second secret story that he was unfortunately kidnapped as a child. Sabo never does find out, until he regains his memories, where the burn scar is actually from.
#one piece#sabo#one piece au#king sabo au#I might write something for this#I have a lot of ideas for it#I love au’s where sabo helps the revolution while not being actually a member of the revolutionary army#but I very rarely see ones that I like#I am going to oc-ify sarie so much.#i think sabo would hate being king. I think he hates everything about the situation he is in#but I also think that in the wake of forgetting himself he needs some connection to cling onto#even if that connection is the extremely inspiring stranger that barely knows him but is proud of him for helping#namely dragon.#I’m still unsure where to put stelly in all of this#I think stelly gets extremely bitter when sabo starts surpassing him in everything#because he was supposed to be the successful replacement of a son#im also debating whether or not I want sabo to remember his memories before or after marineford#because the moment he regains his memories is very clear to me. I want garp to see him at the reverie and punch him.#but I don’t know if I want that to happen earlier or later
#wait I feel like I let people down by not writing something in the tags on this#I have been working so hard in this goddamn animation I’m working on and it’s so slow and it’s only five seconds but it’s taking a lifetime#I want it to just be doneeeeee I don’t wanna do clean up work anymoreeeee I don’t wanna make backgrounds and do crappy effects animation:((#but like… the start of it looks so gooodddddd heheeheeeheheee I’m proud of myself#I need to animate more I need to be able to be faster at this and be able to capture movement better and just in general be like 10x better#than I am now#this really shouldn’t be taking as long as it has and part of that is lack of focus#so I need to lock in fr
I find it incredibly funny that emu and rui are made out to be the most academically talented out of the wxs unit given that they both also need to be babysat anytime the group goes out in public. Their boundless intelligence and unending whimsy is matched only by their need to get sillay.
#emu helping nene with math was such a good small writing choice. girl is smart!!! I’m so proud of her.#ppl who portray her as dumb… just say u hate a whimsical girl and go.#& in general I will always find it hysterical that rui has created a fully sentient AI and countless high tech robots#which he exclusively uses to put on funny little shows for an amusement park.#project sekai#wakes up posts this goes back to sleep. one of those days.
I was skimming through my old Soukoku fics and LMAO Chuuya chill out
#looking back i have some issues with my characterization#like my fics had a lot of good analysis and introspection but when it came to action an dialogue dazai wasn’t always dazaiing#i’m still proud of the way i wrote most of the other characters tho#excluding some of the…umm…fics where i had to take creative liberties lol#i’ve been warming up to skk again lately so maybe someday i’ll attempt to write the world’s first in character skk fic#not to toot my own horn but if anyone could do it i could#i will forever love the way i wrote chuuya tho#i feel like you can see traces of him in how i write kou#with obvious differences bcuz my characterization improved a lot with tbhk#i try not to be overly harsh on my own fics but i am v critical when i reread so i have to remember to pat myself on the back too#analyze both my strong and weak points yk#bsd#bungou stray dogs#soukoku#skk#osamu dazai#chuuya nakahara#fanfic#fan fiction#ao3#archive of our own
Where do your roots start
And where do your roots end?
Something about seeing only the worst of yourself in the mirror. Something violent and terrifying, but knowing you only grew that violence in response to violence against you. Knowing your power comes from a place of trauma, something you don’t remember but wish had never happened. But it did, and here you are. There’s something new in you that isn’t the you that you understand and you wish it wasn’t but it is. Violence begets violence and you are unable to control what grows from the seeds that were planted. So you have to live with it and try not to let that violence spread.
You’ve already failed once.
And you see it every time you look in the damn mirror.
