synopsis: Chan is your roommate and you both have trouble with insomnia

Another sleepless night. Another night of tossing and turning. Another headache that you can feel starting at the back of your head. There’s really no point in staying in bed anymore, but you have to be quiet cause your roommate is maybe asleep, and you don’t wanna risk waking him up.

You wander through the apartment and end up in the kitchen, maybe some chamomile tea would help? After you heard noises from Chan’s room, too loud to be just him moving in his sleep, it’s easy to decide to make two cups and leave his on the kitchen table.

On nights like this, standing up is a chore. You’re tired to the bones, but your brain doesn’t seem to have received the message: awake, loud and a bit mean, it’s more awake than ever. Just few minutes later, your hear soft steps getting closer, and Chan finds you sitting on the kitchen floor. Your back to the cabinets door, warm mug between your hands, a warm substitute for real affection.

“No sleep tonight, uh?” Chan grabs his mug and raises it in a mock toast in your direction. He then sits at your side, knee knocking in yours and his head hits with a soft thud the kitchen furniture. You answer with a quiet hum and a shake of your head.

“Wanna talk about it?” You can’t help a smile from appearing on your face. Chan is always so gentle, so caring, that falling deep for him was way too easy and natural. “There’s not much to talk about. What about you?”

“Bad dream. Don’t wanna talk about it.”

“But you wanna talk?”

The two of you do this sometimes, you sit on the floor and talk about everything and nothing. There are only few things you’ll never tell each other: you’re never confessing to him, he’s never telling you he’s felt alone for so long before you arrived, you’re never telling him he’s the best part of your life.

He nods and sips his chamomile. “I heard sharks likes to be pet by subs.” One topic is as good as the other, but it gets the conversation started…

It’s hours later when he says: “…and so they broke up”, he concludes the story about a couple of his friends and their messy romance.

“That’s sad, tho. The idea of loving someone so much but not being able to be with them.” You’re looking in front of you, Chan’s face on the left of your visual field. You know what’s like to love someone but not being with him, watching him and being happy about his accomplishments but only doing it as a friend, as a roommate.

“Mh”, he nods and picks at the skin of his thumb with his teeth. “That sucks, you’re right. I hope they’ll manage to solve their problems and finally be happy.” With his head still resting on the cabinet’s door, he turns it towards you. “Are you happy?”

Your first instinct is to scoff. Your second instinct is to cry. Are you happy? What are you gonna answer Chan?

“I don’t know.” Your voice is so quiet you’re not sure he heard you. You’re about to drop the subject when he makes an inquisitive sound. Have you always been weak in front of Chan? Have you always given him all he asked for? “I don’t know, Chan. I have pretty much everything I need, I should be happy, right? I have a decent job, a pretty apartment, friends, health…” your sentence hangs incomplete. You know what is missing, but you can’t say it.

How do you tell your roommate you love him? How do you tell him you’d be happy if he were yours? How do you tell someone they’re the reason you keep smiling day by day without weighting them of the burden, the responsibility? And even if you were brave enough (and selfish enough) to tell him, then what if he doesn’t reciprocate and you lose him?

“It’s okay to want more.” Too kind, too good.

“What about you?” You ask, maybe he’ll forget your words.

“Are you asking me if I’m happy or if I want more?” What are you asking? You’re not sure, so you shrug, letting him pick for you. “I am happy.” he says, and then Chan does something that in all the late night talks you shared he has never done: he reaches for your hand and interlocks his fingers with yours. His palm is warm against yours, bigger, you can feel his callous on his fingers. “I could be happier,” he continues. “I want more, too.”

How can something so simple as holding hands make your heart race? Why are you suddenly so warm and happy? “It’s okay to want more” you repeat his words.

Chan’s face opens up in a beautiful smile and you blush so hard you can only hide your face, letting your head rest on his shoulder, hands still clasped together.

Later, you’ll kiss. Later, you’ll both confess, reciprocated feeling and plans for the future. Later, you’ll decide to make it official, so there’ll never be misunderstandings in this. But for now, the sun rising catches you unmoved. Hands clasped, heads resting close and you both asleep. You’re gonna regret falling asleep sitting in the kitchen floor, but this was the best late night talk for you two, so a cricked neck and achy asses are worth it.

So he does the most sane thing he could do after all that time of torture in jail, he manages to find you, get on a date with you and pretend he doesn’t know, manages to get in the elevator to your apartment — what a fool — you’re probably thinking, he’ll show you the fool.

As soon as he walks in and the door is shut, both hands are on your throat, pushing you against the wall and making sure you’re out of breath.

He almost feels bad for you, god, he doesn’t even feel like himself, he’d never put a hand on a woman, he’s never done this, but it’s pleasing, it’s nice to punish you for making him look like a fool, because he knows it’s you, you’re tricking him, you and your skimpy black dress that basically forces him to watch your ass every step you take, you did it on purpose, probably.

Jungwon looks pretty calm from the outside, but his brows are furrowed just like last time, when he was mad at you. “Do you even fucking know what Y/n went through?” “Sunghoon-“ You try to intervener but both guys look at you as if you just insulted them. Its unusual, but for once you feel intimidated. Nicholas gets next to you, his hand on your back.

“Did you know? Y/n? That Minji was all up his ass too?” You gulp, of course you know, Jungwon told you. He told you everything without asking questions, so you nod, but that only seems to anger Sunghoon even more. He turns to Jungwon once again, this time stepping closer to him. “You should’ve protected her.” “I see her more than just a damsel in distress.”

“You don’t know shit.” Sunghoon steps even closer, the height difference between the two is really noticeable now. “I don’t know shit because no one tells me shit! I have no damn clue about what happened last year or why Minji is so obsessed with her! You can’t blame me and then not tell me a thing!” The two start pushing each other like little kids, its honestly pissing you off, did they really have to do that on your birthday?

“That’s the thing, you will never know, you shouldn’t be here in the first place.” Now that’s pissing you off even more, “Sunghoon!” You call him, walking towards them, but they don’t hear you, instead they just get more violent. “Can’t you just ignore each other for once?” You manage to get hold of Sunghoon’s wrist, stopping him from punching Jungwon. “Do you really have to make a scene on my birthday?”

“I’m doing this for you.” Sunghoon gets off of your grip, stepping away from both you and Jungwon. “But i dont want you to.” Jungwon tries to take your hand, probably wanting to calm you down or something, but you just shrug him off, and you hear him sigh behind you. There are a few seconds of silence where you just look at each other, you can tell that Sunghoon is mad, and you can’t really blame him.

Its barely been a year and you’re already acting like nothing happened, you know you’ve been acting immature all this time, with Jungwon, with your friends, at school. And no one better than you knows its gonna cause some repercussions, but right now you don’t want to think about it. It’s your birthday, you’re here with the people you care about, you want to have fun for these two more days.

Sunghoon sighs before walking away, not saying a thing, you don’t try to follow him, you know he’ll calm down on his own. You close your eyes before turning around to look at Jungwon, you try to say something but he shakes his head. His jaw is clenched and his brows are still furrowed.

You hate how damn hot he looks when mad, he’s able to attract you yet make you feel intimidated. “Jungwon can we talk-“ “I need a couple of minutes.” The coldness in his voice makes you shiver. You look at Nicholas, who immediately gets the memo and starts walking away from you two.

“Are you mad at me?” You dont remember the last time you asked something like that. But it surely brings you back, you feel so little in front of him, he’s barely looking at you in the eyes, his whole demeanor so cold, it makes you shiver. “Y/n, I said I need a few minutes.”

You bite your bottom lip, feeling so nervous about this whole interaction. You just nod and start walking back into the house, hands in your hair as you try to think about what you did to fuck this all up. Is he mad because of Sunghoon’s words? Its true Jungwon doesn’t know a thing, and that he probably won’t ever know the truth, but why does he care so much? why do YOU care so much?

A couple of hours pass, until its two in the morning. You can’t sleep, not after you got used to Jungwon sleeping next to you yesterday. You sigh, thinking that maybe the only thing that could ease your mind at the moment could be a late night swim in the indoor pool. So that’s what you decide to do, with a towel in your hands, wearing your bikini under a big white shirt, you go downstairs.

You close the door of the indoor pool and stand there for a few minutes when you realize Jungwon is already here. He’s standing on the border of the pool, he’s drying his hair with the towel, no shirt on, fuck. You can’t really be thinking about this now. He notices you staring and, before he can say something, you stop him.

“I didn’t know you were here.” The pool isn’t exactly small, so there’s really a few meters apart between the two of you, you would get closer but you’re still scared about him being mad at you. He lets out a quiet chuckle before smiling at you. “Why so far, pretty? I swear i’m not gonna eat you.” You pout.

You dont really want to listen to him right now. The audacity to act so cocky after scaring you so much is honestly pissing you off. So you put the towel on one of the chairs, same with the white shirt you had on, and then you just dive into the water. When you resurface he’s looking at you, his eyes the same ones as that time in his changing room.

“Is this close enough for you?” “Not at all.” He’s quick to say it, but he’s even quicker to get into the water with you. His hands immediately on your waist. “This is.” You look at him in the eyes, you know that look, you know what he wants. But you need to talk to him now, you put your hand on his arm, caressing his bicep with your thumb. “Are you still mad at me?”

He smirks, before leaning in and biting your lobe. “I am. Not as much though.” Your free hand goes to his jaw, making him look at you in the eyes, and making so that he doesn’t bite you again. “Can we talk?” He shakes his head, and that makes you even more disappointed. “Don’t feel like it.” “You never feel like it.”

Jungwon’s eyes turn cold the second you snap that. But you’re way too disappointed to think about it. You get off of his grip and start getting away from him, he stands still for a few seconds before catching up to you. “Y/n…” Its making you mad and, surprisingly, its making you even sadder.

He grabs you by your hips and you hit his chest lightly to let you go. Even if in reality you really dont mind the closeness between you two. Still, you are pretty angry at him. You don’t like how he’s been acting, first he’s all cuddly and lovely, then he gets mad at you for no reasons, and then again he looks at you as if he’s dying to fuck you. Right now he’s a mix between the last two.

“Why do you even want to talk in the first place? I know you wont tell me a thing anyway. Its useless talk we could spend on kissing instead.” You sigh, its true you wouldn’t tell him the whole story, but you could give him some hints, and as plump and soft his lips look right now, you dont want him to win. “Dont feel like it.”

“You’re cute when you’re sulking.” You dont say a thing, but your heart gets a weird reaction when he says that. You say the last sentence way quieter than it needs to be, but he still hears it, and his eyes widen for a second before he looks at you again, his hands holding you closer. “Don’t say that.” “I know we both dont like talking about feelings and shit like that, but i can never figure out whats in your head and its driving me crazy.”

What do you headcanon as AU careers for Dick?

I don't much like the idea of Dick as a cop (in Wayne Family Adventures I'm pretty sure they never explicitly mention his job, so I'm gonna pretend he's not a cop there)

Gymnastics instructor seems to be a popular choice in most of the Happy Dick and Nice Batfam AUs and it sounds in character... Except his night job related injuries would be difficult to hide.

Neither Fae nor Talon Dick are likely to have the kind of falling out with Bruce which led to Dick striking out on his own, so they will likely never have the worry about earning their own living. Bruce would no doubt be willing and eager to give them cushy jobs with the WE, or they can just treat Superhero-ing as their full time job. But still, I think they will want an independent, non-nepo baby job.

I like the idea of Dick as a CPS worker, or just with social services in general. He'll be great with traumatized kids, has so much experience both first and second hand to draw on.

And if Fae Dick is with CPS... Well. The lore about fae stealing children is well known, but less well known is the lore that fae steal neglected children.

Now, that can simply be the predator going after the vulnerable, but it can also be in some stories the fae see humans refusing to take care of the children properly and getting their adoption instincts triggered Bruce Wayne style, taking them away from the parents who don't deserve them to a better life.

CPS takes neglected and abused children away from the parents who don't deserve them, to a better life.

Love the idea of a fae as a CPS worker, getting official sanction and human cooperation to do his traditional job :)

It depends on the Au!

I’m very flexible with what I read as long as the author manages to fit it into the story in a plausible and believable way. Like with the Titans TV series where it establishes very early on that Dick is rather feral and not as opposed to murder as Bruce *cough*

But over all I do agree that him being a cop doesn’t check out most of the time since most comics (at least from what I’ve read, so take that with a grain of salt. My comic knowledge is like— 3% if we’re being generous lol.) depict him as being very opposed to using firearms, and to killing. And cops have to carry guns to protect themselves and others, and sometimes also shoot people. So yeah I don’t know.

And acrobatics instructor actually isn’t such a bad idea imo! Yeah there are some pretty revealing suits out there. But if we go with what Dick is wearing in Gotham Knights in between missions it could totally work out! He’d still have to be careful tho, obviously. But honestly I don’t think people will look too closely at someone who does potentially dangerous sports as a living and comes in with a black eye or a broken arm or something.

CPS sounds like a very fun idea tho! Espiecally in regards to Fae Dick! He’s got a soft spot for children and their wide eyed wonder. And kids aren’t nearly as frightened of him if they happen to catch a glimpse of other either. So yeah, perfect!

But now I’m also thinking of the Pied Piper of Hamelin tale, because I can totally see Dick leading a gaggle of kids through the streets and out of harms way if there’s ever a Gotham wide catastrophe going on… hmmmm

Other than that I could also see Dick as someone who takes a job leading and organizing multiple charities (sponsored by Wayne Enterprises) and rising through the Gotham Elite. It would help his vigilante cover (poor and dumb Richie Wayne, always drunk and being scandalous, just like his guardian) while also serving the ulterior motive of rooting out corruption.

Idk that last one’s just a thought (cuz I love good rich people playing other bad rich people and causing their downfall… eh.)

Can I just take a moment to praise OUAW (and the LOA cast as a whole), and their subtle yet VERY effective method of storytelling?

(Spoilers for OUAW below the cut)

For starters; the mix of comedy and gut-punch, and how they usually lure the audience into a false sense of security using humor, before hitting them with a really dark and angsty moment/episode, and then jumping right back into comedy to cut the tension.

Don’t believe me? Fuck, listen to episode fucking ONE, which inadvertently introduces this whole method that the continue to do for the rest of the campaign (and maybe others, im not entirely sure, but I’ve noticed this same method for Icebound, but almost in the reverse). The whole episode is full of jokes and antics, before hitting us with the (really depressing) death of a fairy at the end of the episode, immediately turning the mood around. And then the following 15 EPISODES were just a whole lot of fun and chaos.

Jokes and antics > depressing moment > more jokes and antics

Or how about episodes 41 and 42? They were joking around and doing their usual antics, before tensions rose with the death of Twig and everything afterwards, and then in episode 43 they spent the first hour as dancing singing mushrooms

Humor > angst > humor

Or episode 46? The first two thirds of the episode, the party were turned into toys and it was just…absolute chaos. Before they all got killed by the Jabberwock

However, I also noticed that episode 47 onward, this changed. Dont get me wrong, they still joke around and do their usual antics, but it seemed like it stopped being as a way to try and shrug off what just happened. Though, I guess this could partially be because of the circumstances, all things considered. Though I’m interested to see where season 2 takes us with this.

Also; character arcs. Or perhaps the lack thereof? I’m honestly not sure, to be honest.

There has been a change in these characters throughout the campaign thus far, don’t get me wrong. But these changes have been so incredibly subtle that you won’t even notice that they are going through a character arc unless you’re specifically looking for it.

Like how Torbek has been growing more confident—both in general and in his abilities; or how Gricko has been slowly shedding his “comic relief” exterior to show just WHY he’s a valued member of the party (other than his ability to heal); and fuck, I’ve even noticed a bit of a change in Kremy and Gideon (tho I can’t quite place what that character arc is, or when it started, but there IS a character arc happening here)

And like, I’m generally pretty good at picking up subtleties like this from media (in fact, most of my fics and character studies/analysis require this), but somehow OUAW managed to make their character arcs so subtle that I completely missed that there even WAS a character arc even happening until it suddenly reared its head (again, like with Torbek and Gricko)

It’s so subtle yet so effective and I just…agh! I can’t wholly verbally express how much I love the storytelling and character development in OUAW, it’s so good

So Nexus

I have been thinking a bit about my aus and decided to try and see how Nexus and their arc could potentially fit in them, as an experiment. And these results were actually pretty interesting! I like a few of these ideas and think I’m going to actively incorporate them into the aus, tho I’ll let y’all guess which ones those are :)

Man, Aus are fun

Your eyes are not deceiving you, those are indeed the Bloodmoons in Nexus and Moon’s place, not the weirdest swap in that au surprisingly.

Anyways, the first twins would be absolutely merciless in their taunts to the newer ones, just ruthless, utterly unforgiving. New BM would kinda get a bit self conscious and offended, tho I can see them taking up that suggestion and fully leaning into the plague thematic (this only came to be because I ironically called them The Plague after I drew this… it isn’t ironic anymore), might also be because of that obedience code they have though , honestly I’m not sure yet to be honest :P

(I have to talk about this au at some point lol)

This one was extra fun cuz I already had a concept for the Evil!Sun of the au and it actually kinda fits really well for a ‘Morningstar villain arc’!

In short, Dawn is a Moon that kidnaps adopts other Suns cuz he killed his and has lived with the guilt ever since, he wants to keep them safe and away from any sort of danger, Solar fucking hates him for trying to kidnap their Sun (yes Solar as in Nice!Eclipse is in the au, I’ll explain later) Morningstar would leave to team up with him to find a way to fix their little sibling who was affected by the multidimensional thing but didn’t die

Ok, now we have the not so silly stuff

I was struck with quite an idea for Get in Losers, since Old Moon didn’t die there’d be no need for a New Moon… unless someone else was counting on New Moon’s existence and decided to take things into his own hands.

So there’s an extra moon in the daycare, one “raised” by the Creator, and he’s treated well and all but is he really wanted there? It certainly doesn’t feel like it. At a point after the multidimensional event happens they’d have a breakdown over their identity, they aren’t needed, they aren’t Moon, then who are they?

One thing I feel the need to share with y’all about this is that Dusk would be watching all the drama in the dimension go down like the soap opera it is, and at the point of Nexus’s breakdown he’d just be staring at the lunar model while eating fries. It’s all entertainment for him

[Nexus’s blurry dialogue reads: You know nothing of what I’m trying to do, of what I’m going through. So stop acting as if you cared about him, we both know you didn’t. Now you’re going to stay put in your cell until I’ve got this all ready. And then you’ll finally do some good with that pathetic life of yours]

And, of course, the longest one is for Bloody and Harvest, why wouldn’t it?

Solar’s death was not only extremely unexpected, but it was also extremely hard hitting for everyone. Bloodmoon kinda just “accepted” it after a while. Solar is gone, they will never see him again, there’s nothing to do about it. They avoid the subject as much as they can besides that. Until Nexus kidnaps them. He has a plan to bring Solar back using them as a sacrifice. And this greatly upsets them. They see no point to it, moreover they reason that Nexus is just blinded by grief, so they attempt to talk to the bot.

It does not go well.

They still managed to escape the situation however, carrying weapons around turning out to be useful for once. Bloody is lowkey kinda mad they actually had to use the taser gun though. They leave Nexus locked up in that place and go tell the Daycare idiots what just happened, and then they take a really long vacation far away from that place, maybe go to some mountains or something. Would Nexus track them again? I’d like to think not.

Tho the saddest thing about this that I thought of was the fact that had Nexus not kidnapped them and actually explained the plan, Bloodmoon might have considered it.

Nothing and then So Much All At Once I’ll disappear for a week and come out of our suite looking like a chew toy 🫠 v much a boobs man tho so even outside of his rut he’s known to chomp a tiddy and earn himself a swat over the head…….. as for jing yuan I fear he’s a menace of the highest caliber. Like I’m pretty sure he bit me during our first kiss he is Not playing around. Definitely the bitiest of all my men, and definitely the only one that is truly comparable to me pfft sometimes gets a bit competitive abt it even and will literally give exactly what he gets. He’ll bite anywhere he can manage for sure but honestly I think I Always have a mark or two on my neck that I’m always trying to cover up w my shirt collar or makeup…….. was even more prone to toeing the line when we were in our nebulous “fucking and seeing each other but not exactly official” phase bc my flightiness and borderline commitment issues were driving him up the wall. This one is pretty self explanatory. It’s Ride the Cyclone but with MHTP characters. We have Betty as Karnak, Queen as Ocean, Rabbit as Constance, Hatter as Mischa, Hare as Noel, Ernest as Ricky, and Cheshire as Jane Doe

Fun extra one but Dormouse is Virgil

Reincarnation AU:

This one is an AU where Wonderland like in the book is real and that the MHTP characters are like the reincarnated versions of the book characters. Not just that but most people can kinda feel in their soul when they knew someone in another life even tho most aren’t aware that that’s what that feeling is. People also dream about their past life

This one is very Chandersson centric(but most of my AUs are). This one goes well with soulmate au too but yeah. Mouse and Cheshire both die horrifically but they get to be together as Ernest and Barkley

Another neat fact is that before Cheshire died, he gave the pig baby to Hatter for him to care for. Pig baby reincarnates as Barkley’s little brother, Francisco, and when he meets Harmony(Hatter) for the first time almost automatically thinks Dad? Tho he never voices that thought

Less than neat fact, You’re Just a Fool is now more terrifying for Ernest since Rosabella(Queen) is the one who killed him as Mouse

The adults grow up together AU:

This one is also kinda self explanatory. Basically all the main characters(except for the Tweedles and Alice) all are in the same town and grow up together as friends. This is the only AU that is in the MHTP universe that doesn’t have them end up in Ladrington Brooke at some point since they all had each other as support

It doesn’t mean that none of them developed their mental illnesses like Rosabella and Barkley were kinda unavoidable since they both grew up in abusive homes(Barkley is more hc than canon but shhhhh) but they are better off since they have friends to be there and places where they can run off to

Ernest’s depression isn’t as intense because he has friends(where in my hc, he had none) and Whitley(Rabbit) has people other than Rosabella to go to so his OCD is more manageable.

Chandersson will always be real so they got together in high school and stuck ever since

Reverse AU:

This one isn’t complicated but it’s hard for me to explain

It’s not a reverse AU where personalities switch and they also don’t switch mental illnesses. Everyone keeps their disorders it’s more role that reverses and also order in which they present their stuff

So Alice and the Tweedles switch where Alice is first and has a more fun song in which they play pretend while Tweedles go after Hare and actually talk about the PTSD

Hare and Rabbit switch and I honestly don’t know how their songs would change. Rabbit’s would go before Hatter’s song

The second most interesting change is Hatter and Queen so now Queen is the leader of the group instead of Hatter and she goes last. Hatter’s song is now more going You need to understand, I’m not like what you think but it actually works because he isn’t using his illness to excuse being an abusive asshole to his friends while Queen is now more like a Let me tell you a tale like how Dapper Hatter is. Queen is much nicer and not abusive and enjoying it like in the show. She is much more stern unlike Hatter but ultimately is trying her best to put the others first even if sometimes she has a hard time controlling her temper

And the most interesting change which is Cheshire and Ernest switching roles so now Cheshire is the doctor and Ernest is the patient. Idk how their songs would work but I do know that Cheshire’s own Ernest in Ernest type moment would be triggered by Queen doing her banshee screech of rage. Ernest is less in the There’s nothing wrong with me even tho that would fit and more like I know there’s smth wrong but I don’t want to talk about it while Cheshire genuinely doesn’t know and gets the realization that he isn’t actually as normal as he thought he was in the harshest way possible(the most intense CPTSD flashback you’ve ever seen). Since Ernest never became a psychotherapist, he is a science teacher.

I miss your Horrorfell bros so can we have some general headcanons for them? Do they have any interests? Favourite things to do or food to eat? Pyre and Hounds relationship doesn’t recover for a WHILE after surfacing. Bad enough that they go a good couple years without talking to each other. They reconnect after some long talks and deep self reflections in therapy and realise they miss each other.

Once they do reconnect they both put in the effort. Maybe they’ll never be as close as they once were, hell they probably won’t ever live together again. But they’re still brothers, and they still care about each other

Hound uses his government received reparations to buy a small run down cottage on the side of Ebott Mountain, it has a huge garden with lots of privacy from his neighbours. Hound isn’t actually sure if he has neighbours?? He sure as hell isn’t looking to meet them.

Pyre once on the surface eventually comes to be known as the crazy cat lady of his neighbourhood. He owns at least a dozen cats, (not including the feral strays he feeds in his garden). Each one is equally loved and doted on. They all sleep on his bed in the winter. They all have unique names, collars and food bowls. Not a single one goes a day without getting some kind of treat from Pyre

Hound despite his very extroverted past self, never fully recovers his interest in other people. He spends most of his days gardening and farming his own food. He’s got a small flock of chickens that he pretends to hate. Like one of those dads that grumpily insists he doesn’t like the new pet, but is then seen snuggling with the damn thing a day later.

Pyre regains his love for sweets. He kept it a secret before the famine, ashamed it would make him seen weak. He’s too old and hungry for that now tho. Give him his sweets or give him death🤺

The local bakery both fears and respects that man for the amount of chocolate sweets he purchases😮‍💨

Hound meanwhile is a blackhole for food, he literally has no favourites and would eat literally garbage if it was placed in front of him. Bro is just excited to eat

Both boys would get pretty flustered if you complimented them! Pyre would brush it off waving you away before you could see the blood red blush dusting his cheekbones. “YES OF COURSE YOU APPRECIATE THE TERRIBLE PYRES DINNER! YOU DID NOT NEED TO VERBALISE IT HUMAN!!!” As he hides away in the kitchen.

Hound would chuckle quietly and tug down his beanie so you couldn’t see the way his eye light blew up in size as he looked down at you, maybe he would reach down and ruffle your hair. “….thanks…..cutie” he would manage to speak aloud.

Hound doesn’t work, his metal jaw and cracked skull make it difficult for him to communicate, occasionally he’ll plonk down a stall (a totally legal one at that. No sir not at all like his illegal hot dog stand) and sell some of his veggies and chicken eggs other than that he’s pretty much chilling in his home.

Pyre on the other hand dives into work as soon as he can. He’s very lonely for a long time once on the surface. All his old friends are dead, or he wishes they were, him and Hound aren’t on speaking terms yet. So he busied himself to stop the aching feeling of loneliness settling into his soul.

He jumps around from place to place, it’s hard to find work when you’re a terrifying skeleton and you’re also disabled. Eventually he settles on working as a counsellor. He’s tough on his clients, unforgiving even. But Pyre loves what he does and he genuinely gives it his all in helping his patients.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this much, but Pyres got a pretty fucked up spine. It makes it difficult for him to go long without sitting, and he receives multiple surgeries to hopefully help fix it. All that does is extend the time he can stay standing. Pyre can’t do much exercise or walking before the pain gets too much. Once on the surface he gets a wheelchair and is pleasantly surprised that he doesn’t have to spend most of the day in terrible pain.

Pyres a tough nut to crack socially, his walls are forever up and he needs time to start to trust someone. Just keep taking your chances, sit with him at work, offer him some home baked cookies, knock on his door and ask for help (Pyre loves to feel useful). Eventually he’ll break, and you’ll have a gigantic protective skeleton at your beck and call!

Be ready to spend a lot of time after those walls are down though, Pyre loves to be social and he absolutely will drag you to places he wants to visit if need be.

Hounds a little easier to befriend, just don’t speak for him, (even if it takes a while for Hound to get the words out he hates being spoken over even more) and he’ll think you’re alright. If you wanna get closer you gotta dish out some puns, or some good ol’ slapstick humour often

I wouldn’t bother trying to befriend them in the Underground if I were you though. This time in their lives is marked by hunger, sadism and wrath. You likely won’t get far before a knife is shoved in your stomach or your chopped in half. If you meet them Underground you gotta have something to be worth keeping alive.

Pyre as much as he hates to admit it, spends a lot of time in therapy. When Pyre initially got triggered by something he reacted violently, brutally so. He would lash out at everyone and everything in the vicinity until he felt safe again. This was part of the reason Hound and him stopped talking. Hound was sick and tired of being torn into and beaten around over perceived insults or threatening actions.

The therapy does Pyre a lot of good, it’s what inspires him to become a counsellor. Eventually he settles down and manages to learn what to avoid and what to distance himself from.

Blood, meat, injured humans, etc. Pyre also deconstructs his ego problems, he stops feeling the need to constantly project “DANGER” to feel safe.

Hound never goes to therapy, ever. Yes he’s still triggered by a lot of things, and yeah sometimes he lashes out or suffers from debilitating panic attacks. No, there’s probably nothing anyone could ever do to convince him to go to therapy, he’s learning in his own way how to manage.

Still thinking about how Leo is the only one of the seven who doesn’t really have ties outside of the quest.

Hear me out. Percy and Piper both still have a solid human life to go back too. Annabeth too although I’d say she’s more tied to camp half blood.

Frank and and Hazel both really care about camp Jupiter despite not having been there long. Jason actually feels very closely tied to both camps which causes him conflict. He seems to think he doesn’t know where he belongs but he DOES feel connected to both places.

Leo though… he’s a BIT attached to camp half blood. Not as much as the others tho. I don’t have my copy of MoA rn so I can’t find text support but I’m pretty sure there’s a part in his POV where he talks about it too. He was at Bunker 9 significantly more than the camp. It’s actually so so impressive he manages to pull his irresponsible goofball act off as much as he does. Cause like this dude WORKED. He built an impossible magic ship in like six months. I’m pretty sure there’s a part where it’s mentioned even HE doesn’t totally understand the magic power my the ship. Bonkers.

So anyway he isn’t that connected to his human life (because it burned in a dumpster fire) and he’s not that connected to camp half blood. But WAY more than the rest of the 7 he is connected to this quest. He’s literally been dreaming about this ship since he was a kid that he would one day build for there people. I think the bonds between the seven could’ve been more built up in general but I gotta say Leo has some STRONG connections compared to the rest. Jason and piper are obvious that’s literally what I made this blog about years ago.

But the rest too. He doesn’t talk with Annabeth much but they do have this interesting relationship of ship builder/commander and quest leader also both being absolute geniuses. Like the only ones who can even Kind of keep up with each other there’s a lot of mutual respect (and fear he is a bit scared of her but that’s just smart). Percy and Leo are interesting bc in theory they have so much in common but one of the only deeepish conversations the have is about Calypso?? BUT his extreme guilt when Percy and Annabeth are in Tarturus bc he thinks he traded them for Frank and Hazel??

Yeah let’s talk about Frank and Hazel. I’m ignoring the love triangle bc I don’t care for it and it’s irrelevant to what I’m talking about. Hazel and Leo have the obvious connection of Leo grandfather being Sammy but ALSO the thing we don’t talk about enough is how both of the childhoods were defined by this quest more than anyone else. Gae interfered with both of them HEAVILY and they both suffered for it, AND carry huge amounts of guilt for what she manipulated them into doing.

And then one of the most underrated friendships that is Leo and Frank. Because Frank’s one weakness is fire and Leo IS FIRE. Like they are each others worst god damn fear. Leo REALLY fears the consequences of his destructive powers which is something he has to learn to work past and Frank really fears his mortality BECAUSE HE HAS TO CARRY IT AROUKD WITH HIM SO VALID. Trusting each other is like confronting those fears… (ok so maybe it wasn’t done that well in canon but that’s not the point).

ANYWAY what’s crazy is I don’t think anyone else really realizes this. Like Leo’s whole woo is me I’m the seventh wheel thing seems really self pitying but… you could argue that everyone on the ship was more invested in someone else on board and on their lives outside of the quest. Like, this is Leo’s life. And he’s their side character (i don’t think this is actually true at all for Jason and Piper but he doesn’t know that ugh). His character is so crazy to me.
