Was watching a video called ‘Marisha being proficient in note taking’ (watch the video it’s epic the link is here) where Beau is going crazy conspiracy mode and the things that gets brought up is Aeor, specifically Cognouza and in that she and Jester have a moment talking about it splitting from Aeor, specifically theorizing that maybe it is ‘a defense mechanism gone wrong’

I don’t know how much Matt had figured out at this point but from what has been revealed in Downfall,,, this theory is right on the money. It would be interesting to know if Matt had this thought out already or if Marisha’s rant inspired it, either way she knocked it out of the park - when watching the video I was shitting my pants cause of how much more Aeor lore we know now and what scraps we had of it back then and Marisha still figured that shit out it’s just impressive

I think it’s very important to say that all my “Essek has to be there, it doesn’t make sense if he isn’t” comments prior to tonight were based on a wildly different conception of what the oneshot would look like. Something more involved in the meat of the Solstice itself, which he has very direct ties to.

However. While I of course would’ve loved to see him, I miss him so dearly, the ways he was Present without being actually There were beyond incredible. Caleb choosing Fortune’s Favor as one of his Spell Mastery spells. Trent, having only seen Essek with Caleb once, knowing that threatening Essek specifically would make Caleb move. Caleb’s “I am nervous to wait.” when talking about said threat and going to Blumenthal. Essek’s importance in Caleb’s life is so Felt and There that it works perfectly well that he doesn’t appear in person! They’ve been together for seven years, of course we’re going to see those pieces of him that have become ingrained in Caleb!! It’s so!!! Freaking good!!!!

Laudna’s “I already apologized for that” enraged me so much because no, actually, she didn’t. She never once said “I’m sorry for hurting you” what she said was “I didn’t mean to” and there are key differences there

1. She never acknowledged with her own words that she attacked and did damage to Orym while he, and everyone else, was ASLEEP and DEFENSELESS.

2. “I didn’t mean to” is not an apology, the word “sorry” or “apologize” are not included in that statement. “I didn’t mean to” by itself is an excuse, not an apology.

3. Even if “I’m sorry” came before or after “I didn’t mean to” that’s still not a real apology, because the very nature of throwing that “I didn’t mean to” in there is to garner sympathy for yourself, relieving yourself of at least partial blame, and if anything, apologizing more for being caught than for attacking a sleeping member of your party.

From the moment everyone else woke up Laudna spent the rest of the episode trying to deflect, garner sympathy for herself, and put blame on Orym.

Her argument for why she ATTACKED a SLEEPING member of the party changed every time someone rationally stated why her excuses weren’t entirely valid.

She also continued to ignore and downplay Oryms own experiences with the sword, as though his and everyone else’s experiences weren’t as significant as hers. Yes, she died by that blade, but so have almost everyone else in the party, and so did Orym’s family. Except they didn’t get revived. And while this isn’t a contest, Laudna isn’t the only one who deserves to decide what is done with the blade. Orym should have maybe talked with the rest of the group first, sure, but Laudna is acting like she is the only one who deserves to decide what to do with it and she simply is not. If ANYTHING, I feel like this outburst means she shouldn’t be included/involved with the decision at all.

Yes, I understand that all of this is because of Delilah in her head, but Delilah only made the initial suggestion. The attack, the fight, the multiple attempts to steal the sword and run, the outlashes, the things she said, all of that, was Laudna. Not Delilah. Matt even said as much after she rolled for it. It was her decision to act like she did, and do the things she did.

And after all that, for her to have the audacity to not only claim she has never lied to Imogen, but also to claim she apologized? Absolutely not. There was nothing even remotely close to an apology in anything she said, because Laudna doesn’t think she did anything wrong. Even after being told by everyone she was.

I feel like shadowgasts moved on too quickly from the fact that Dairon implies that the metal the volstrucker stabbed Caleb with was likely given to her by the dynasty-empire double agent they were hunting down (Essek)

I’m super curious how the group responds to Liliana in the immediate aftermath of the Otohan fight, as before everyone was really on board with Imogen reaching out and offering her a chance to walk away. I just can’t see them being particularly charitable now, given what they’ve lost , and it will be interesting to see how Imogen’s feelings here inform her interactions with her mother AND how she will navigate that with the rest of Bell’s Hells’ now (understandably) even harsher feelings toward the Vanguard. Because Liliana did respond to the call for aid, even if she couldn’t get there in time (curious if Matt was never going to allow her to appear or had a round counter for arriving in his head or what), and can now be there for Imogen in a tangible way. Would that need for comfort override the anger at the Vanguard? And will that create tension between Imogen and the rest of BH? 

So yeah while pissing her off is unwise here, it’s now much harder for me to see Bell’s Hells extend her the same amount of grace as they had before. Also, they can’t just roll up with her to meet the Volition (unless she’s willing to be a prisoner, which is doubtful). They certainly can’t roll up with her to meet with Keyleth. It really is an awkward situation and one that kind of supersedes the “chance for redemption” question. I don’t think it matters if Imogen or even the rest of Bell’s Hells thinks she can be redeemed if their more powerful allies don’t want to hear it right now.

Anyway, it's a really good chance to have a juicy NPC interaction immediately that won’t just be a Vanguard lore dump or the same Imogen/Liliana conversations we’ve gotten. It allows for some really interesting RP in the immediate aftermath of a death too with someone who was on the same side as the person who just wrecked their shit. And not just for Imogen - I think feelings all around will be hot and it will be interesting to see what comes out of this. I’m psyched.

re-watching orym’s little speech in e96, and the one thing he says that really catches my attention is “i thought you would understand, you’ve carried something so dark for so long, i thought you’d understand me taking it up”

it’s so interesting. because laudna didn’t have a choice in taking up delilah the first time - she didn’t have a choice carrying her for so long. she didn’t even really have a choice in diminishing her. laudna leaning in to delilah now, is even because she feels she doesn’t have a choice; delilah is the power she needs to see this through, to see them all through this.
