I adore the fact that in so many other stories, Mob Psycho would’ve concluded with the World Domination Arc. After all, it has the big, climatic battle with the ensemble cast versus the overarching villain. They win, and everyone goes home, all’s well that ends well, right?

Except the story doesn’t end there. Because Mob has yet to reckon with this internal, antagonist force that has haunted the narrative since the very beginning: Himself.

When Mob comes face-to-face with ???% at long last, he says: I am Kageyama Shigeo.

This isn’t a conflict with a villain, or another esper, or even a separate entity that resides inside Mob’s body. It is something far more personal, and far more relatable.

???% is the culmination of everything Mob’s held back. Not just emotions like anger or fear. Even his desires, like his crush on Tsubomi. All muted by his efforts not to hurt anybody with his powers. Mob has come such a long way, but he’s still restraining his feelings so tightly that the moment his control wavered, ???% took over.

But the conflict isn’t the destruction ???% is wreaking just by walking through the city. The conflict is Mob refusing to accept this part of himself he’s suppressed for so long.

And ???% is right! Every attempt to stop him thus far has failed. Because he isn’t meant to be stopped. Mob has to reconcile with the parts of himself that he won’t acknowledge.

And it’s the most difficult thing Mob has ever had to do! This is the part of himself that hurt his brother; that hurt his friends and decimated so much of the city. Reconciling with it means accepting that Mob hurt those people, whether he wanted to or not. It means accepting all facets of himself, even ones he’s not proud of or wishes he could change but cannot.

Mob has grown so much in this latest season alone, he hasn’t had any explosions, and he felt confident enough in his own abilities to actually ask Tsubomi out, which was something the Mob of two seasons ago could never imagine.

But what about the advice Reigen gave him for his confession to Tsubomi?

His true self, in its totality. This is what Mob has struggled with the entire story. This is why his confession to Tsubomi is the culmination of his character arc. Expressing his feelings means exposing his true self to someone else, even with the fear of rejection.

And while we’re on that subject. Let’s talk about Reigen. Right after he gives this advice to Mob, he says this about himself:

It is the height of irony (and tragedy) that Mob and Reigen admire each other’s strengths so much, yet have no idea they struggle with the same exact fear: that if the people they cared for found out who they truly were, they would reject them. It is why Reigen relies on lies and why Mob suppresses himself.

It is also why Reigen has never actually witnessed ???% until now. It is why Mob has never heard Reigen admit the truth about himself out loud.

And that’s why the final arc feels like such a gut-punch in the best of ways. What is harder than accepting who you are, and hoping for others to accept you as you are? Even at your most deceitful, or your most destructive? Mob Psycho ends with the Confession Arc because that’s the very heart of the story.

Hello hello hello! I have a question. You've posted the first half of The Art of Being Seen in a quick succession, and I've noticed that these are /long/ scenes that you're working with with A+ editing. I was wondering, were many of these scenes already completed before you posted them onto tumblr? 🤔If so, how did you manage to hold back from previewing them? I feel my biggest problem as a story teller is that I rush to get the content out due to my excitement.

No seriously, the short answer is yes! I’ll have the next two to three parts already completed by the time I post the first. At least for this story.

I think I’ve done a good job since I started storytelling with not spoiling my own story or rushing through it (even though I really really want to all the time) bc I know the pay off will be better appreciated in the long run. I also want to quickly get content out which is why I work on my stories all the time.

The best way for me to work on my story is that I never really shoot scenes in order. I always take care of the big ones first or the main focus of the update first and I’ll fill in the smaller parts later on. I’m also always a day or two head of when I post vs working on them in real time. So let’s say I’ll post part one on Monday morning , Monday night im already working on part three or four because I started working on part one last Thursday and part two last Sunday. That makes sense? 😭

I also do very little editing which allows me to post quickly! It’s mostly gshade pulling the heavy lifting. I use alot of in game objects to help with scenes that maybe someone would edit in photoshop. Here’s a sneak peek of such a scene where I used these lights bc I don’t have the skills atm to create in PS.

I also owe my heart and soul to builders who create breathtaking lots, because if I had to make even a third of the builds I used I’d post once a year. I’m an awful builder, so downloading the lots I need cuts time between post down soooo much.

TL DR: a firm talk with myself to behave and be patient and have a fairly decent posting schedule that’s ahead of when I actually release them into the wild. 😭🥹

Also can you imagine if Mae had actually been able to follow through with her stated “turn myself over to Kelnacca” plan and she hadn’t accidentally monologued at her master and left him strung up in the woods and still somehow been slower than him at reaching the house. So she gets there and Kelnacca is still alive and all. Like imagine Mae rocks up to the guy wracked by guilt and who’s drawing her coven symbols everywhere like “hello hi it’s me Mae I’m not dead and actually the whole reason I came to this planet was to kill you but I just found out my sister is alive can you help me” and then she. doesn’t know how he answers. because she can’t speak Wookiee. And yeah it’s super awkward to start with but then they go on a long and arduous journey back to the Jedi temple and it takes forever bc the ships fucked and they keep getting attacked by star wars beasties and also Mae’s former master and Kelnacca earns Mae’s forgiveness for whatever his role in whatever happened was and Mae develops a deeper understanding of the Jedi and who they are past their flaws and they become the unexpected master and padawan duo we never knew we needed and

this was kinda the worst episode out of the entire series tbh simply because of the pacing. i liked the episode, but it was all over the place. they tried to tie in all the lose ends in 50 minutes, and that just wasn’t possible. louis being imprisoned, then released, losing his mind, recovering, AND burning down the theater and killing santiago, all in the span of like 5 minutes, the whole louis/lestat/armand scene, daniel exposing armand, loumand divorcing (that was so underwhelming, esp after 2x05, like, i needed these bitches to have a proper verbal argument, i needed them to be AT EACH OTHER’S THROATS), armand turning daniel (offscreen, cause they didn’t have time to get into all that, cause like… no way it was that simple lol there were too many devil’s minion hints throughout both seasons), louis flying to nola, reuniting with lestat (they have far too long and complex a history for it to be resolved so quickly, it would’ve been far more meaningful had it been done right), daniel publishing his book (compiling, writing, editing, publishing it AND selling 4-5 million copies must have taken a lot of time, so time jump, i guess?)… just by typing this out, it’s too much, way too much to cover in a single episode. the hectic pace left me unsatisfied and it also left a lot of room for plot holes (no more unreliable narrators now, cause the interview is done). idk i think they really should’ve split this into two episodes, at least. one of the things that i really admired about this show was the pace. in season 1, they managed to cover 3 decades in the span of only 7 episodes, while simultaneously showing us what was happening in dubai in 2022, and it never felt rushed. season 2’s pacing was still amazing and satisfying, up until this episode. idk man… i hope this doesn’t happen again, cause it really left a bitter taste in my mouth, and it was the finale, so my expectations were high.

Ohhhh watching Martyn’s pov during the wither/warden attack made me so sad. He already lost Lizzie earlier in the session, and then he lost Jimmy and Mumbo back to back too. All of his red allies were gone so quickly. He was the last big dog alive. He ran underground and hid, spoke only in whispers, terrified and fully convinced that the wither/warden attack targeted him and his friends specifically. He didn’t want to die, none of them did. The monsters up on the surface was the greens and yellows’ problem, not his. He had nothing to do with this. I think this is the first time Martyn faced his own mortality this season. He’s been reckless, bloodthirsty, focused only on his big dog allies and his dangerous tasks. But now, hiding alone underground, hearing the warden above him but no other players running from it, he was afraid.

Lmk Season 5 ep-3 spoilers, live remarks

• Already I’m fucking losing it, not Wukong scratching at his head where the circlet is! WWWHHHYYYY!?!?!?!?!?!? FUCK YOU WRITERS!

• Okay time to address the elephant in the room, so far Wildbrain is doing an amazing job with the art style and animation, they’re replicating it great. Also I love how they kept the shrinking face for Mk, and the little doodles of the gangs plans. Now let’s get one Yamcha death pose this season.

• Nice reference to the Burning Mountain from the book, a bit different than what it really was but eh, I like the reference nonetheless.

• Tang is too funny, already got a few laughs from him. Who ever knows the VA for Tang please let me know I want to watch more of his work.

• Oh my God stop, the way Wukong calls Nimbus his “good fluffy boi” stop making me fall more in love with this man guys please.

• I like how the show is going more into Chinese mythology this season, Nuwa’s back story and how she created people. Very interesting, I wonder if they’ll delve into the 4 Celestial Primates that were mentioned in the book.

• Uuuhhhh, why did they just show a monkey jumping into one of the pillars?

• The trap sequence was so funny. Poor Wukong just trying to make sure Mk is okay and not getting hurt.

• Wukong is such a good mentor the way he told Mk that the obstacles you make on your path is yours to overcome and how there is no right solution. Reason #12 why Macaque can never be a better mentor to Mk and why Macaque’s “lesson” was bs.

• HUH?!?! Please tell me Mk isn’t going to sacrifice himself? Red bird, what do you mean give up everything and that this is the only way?!?! NO NO DON’T DO IT MK PLEASE!!!!

• Guys, I did not like that face Mk made at the end of the episode. Guys please tell me the boy will be okay.
