Apologies if you've already done a post on this and I've just missed it, but can I ask for your take on the pyjamas worn by the cast of interview with vampire? I mean technically they're not a 100% necessary item, but just from a quick look there seems to be a lot of variety and they do change over the series
ok, i’m delighted by the specificity of this question, and it turns out that i have a VERY extensive answer.
there’s a lot of sleepwear in IWTV due to the volume of bedroom/coffin scenes, and like any other outfit, these costumes are shaped by characterization and historical period. for instance claudia initially wears a long, modest, frilly nightgown - an old-fashioned style that plays into her girlish doll wardrobe purchased by louis and lestat. however her sleepwear matures over the years, including a trendy lace nightdress with bloomers in the 1920s (note the rectangular silhouette), and a pink padded jacket/pastel robe outfit in 1940s paris. she's following contemporary trends while charting a visible trajectory from child to adult.

when i wrote about the Théâtre des Vampires coven costumes, i noted that while their wardrobes share certain themes (ie. monochrome patterns and stripes), they each have specific personal tastes. that holds true for sleepwear. in the S2 finale we see the coven going to bed in their coffins, with Eglee in a gorgeous (maybe 1940s?) robe, Celeste in a striped pajama suit reflecting her 1920s-30s cabaret style, and Armand in a plain grey set of prison jammies because he's Suffering.

of course, the star pajama outfits all belong to Louis and Lestat, playing into their wealthy domestic aesthetic in S1. they receive multiple bedroom/coffin scenes, and Lestat's gold Leyendecker robe is obviously iconic.
touching on the historical side of things for a moment, pajamas (as in a matching buttondown top and loose pants) were popularized in the western world in the 19th century, as a repurposed south asian import - kind of like how banyans became trendy among the upper classes in 18th century england. this was when loungewear started to catch on as a concept, both in terms of dressing gowns and smoking jackets (which you could wear while socializing at home) and actual pajamas, which became unisex in the 1920s.
back in his human life in the 18th century, Lestat probably slept naked or wore a shapeless white nightgown (and possibly a nightcap, the sexiest of garments). but in New Orleans he adopts Louis' lifestyle, which involves a luxurious wardrobe of fashionable menswear. they're both into shopping and looking good, and i think they enjoy the ritual of getting dressed together each night.

(i also have a personal theory that Lestat may prefer to sleep fully clothed because his formative traumatic memory involves waking up naked in the dark. after all, he doesn't need pajamas to stay warm, and he doesn't have a recent habit of wearing them in his human life like Louis does. then again, maybe he just enjoys having a new outfit for every occasion!)
in Dubai, we only get one scene (iirc) with Louis and Armand in their pajamas, lying in bed wearing outfits that tie into the striped prison bar imagery of their bedroom. Armand is in warmer brown tones (like his Paris wardrobe) while Louis is in black and grey, like the rest of his Dubai outfits. i'd also note that this is the one place where they're genuine in private, meaning that they aren't putting on a show for Daniel. so this is potentially Armand's most relaxed costume in the present day.

the fact that they're wearing this kind of old-school sleepwear feels very appropriate for their whole deal, imo. in the 21st century, a lot of people just sleep in boxers and t-shirts or whatever. there's a slightly 20th century vibe to wearing a full set of buttondown pajamas, and Armand's outfit reads as more stylish (and possibly more wealthy) than your average millennial guy. which makes sense! they're old men.
i think we can assume that every single thing in their Dubai home is ferociously expensive, even when it doesn't need to be. considering the way Louis gives himself a modern makeover in the finale, i do wonder if he'll switch over to sleeping in t-shirts etc next season, or if he'll stick with variations of the same sleepwear he wore during his mortal life.

You had been called away to work just before qualifying finished. You and half a dozen other models were asked to stand behind the top three drivers and wave feather fans for the cameras while an Elvis impersonator pumped out his signature dance moves. 
From your position you could see the frustration on Carlos’ face. He had qualified second fastest yet he was going to have to start from 12th on the grid. You weren’t the only person in the area upset by the 10 place penalty and the Ferrari supporters were making their opinion known as they chanted for Carlos.
“Alright, sweethearts, we need you over at the Bellagio for some promo shots and then you’re free for the night,” one of the headset-clad organisers said to the group you were with before checking her watch. “Or should I say morning.”
The drive back from the Bellagio to the paddock seemed to take hours with the road closures and checkpoints, but finally you made it back. Knowing Carlos would be waiting somewhere for you, you scanned each floor to find him before heading straight to the top.
“Fuck, mi amor, this is what I need,” Carlos moaned. 
You froze at the sordid scene you had walked in on. Neither one saw you in the doorway of the darkened room, their backs to you as Carlos bent Rebecca over the desk and pounded into her. He curled her hair around his fist and pulled back so to expose the pleasure painted on her face. 
You didn’t even notice you were crying until a droplet fell from your cheek to land on your breast, the feather girl outfit he enjoyed on full display. You suddenly hated how exposed you felt in the ridiculous costume. It was almost as ridiculous as you - for thinking a man like him could change. 
“Take it, cariña, take it,” he stammered as you recognised the pinch of his brow. He was close. He was close to finishing and you were more than done with seeing it. 
You were conscious of your footsteps as you retreated from the room and descended downstairs. You just needed to make it to your dressing room so you could get your stuff and go. 
“Hey,” Charlotte called out as she caught your arm and pulled you to a stop with a friendly smile. “Carlos was looking for you earlier. Did you find him?”
“Yeah, I did,” you whispered, quickly wiping the tears from your cheeks. “Don’t bother drafting up the breakup post.”
Her smile dimmed as confusion replaced it. “What breakup post?”
“Huh,” you laughed humorlessly as you shook your head at your stupidity. “The one Carlos clearly didn’t talk to you about. God, I am a fucking idiot.”
You left the track, heading straight back to your hotel room and before you even reached the room you saw Carlos’ name come up on your phone. You sent him straight to voicemail, again and again.
You barely slept as you thought about how humiliated you felt. You wanted to get him back but you weren’t innocent yourself. You knew your career would be over if you outed the relationship you had with Carlos, even if it made you feel better momentarily. No, you weren’t going to bloody your hands for him, there was already a stain on your soul for what you had knowingly done.
You were a survivor and you were smarter than your recent actions showed. You knew things about Carlos that he had been foolish enough to share in the unburdened state that came after sharing his bed. You were going to use it to your advantage and do what you did best, be the envy of every man.

You had turned your phone off when you arrived at the paddock for the race but it was going to be impossible to ignore Carlos when you were assigned to the Ferrari team. 
“Stacy, swap with me?” you begged as she waited for Charles to escort him to the grid. “Pleeeease.”
“Whatever, French boys aren’t my thing anyway,” she said with a grin before heading next door to Carlos’ side. 
“I’m not French,” Charles corrected as he stepped out of his room. “I’m Monégasque.”
“Today, you’re pole,” you said with a grin as you offered your elbow out to him. “Ready to go?”
You didn’t glance in Carlos’ direction as you accompanied Charles out onto the grid. You didn’t even have to fake enjoying the company as you found the Monégasque had a good sense of humour and made you laugh the entire way. 
From the slamming of Carlos’ car door you knew you were getting to him. Carlos’ fear was losing to his team mate and he was sick of always being compared to Charles Leclerc. 
Carefully angling the feather fan to hide your faces from the jealous driver, you leant in and wished Charles good luck for the race. To the fans, you were clearly talking, but to Carlos? He would always think the worst.

Charles was high with adrenaline when he arrived at the Bellagio after coming second place. It wasn’t the win he was obviously hoping for but you could see how happy he was with the result. 
“So, you like Charles now, huh?” Stacy whispered as she stood as you did, a fake smile on your faces as you lined the interview stage. 
You cast her a quick side glance and winked. “I don’t know what you are talking about.”
“I know why you wanted to swap, Carlos acts like a fucking baby. He practically trashed his garage after Charlotte spoke to him about something. God, I wish I could have heard what that conversation was about.”
“Hmm, me too,” you said with a sick sense of delight as the interviews wrapped up. “Oh, finally, almost time to party.”
“You must be happy, proving Carlos wrong,” you teased Charles as you escorted him back to the Rolls Royce he arrived in. 
His steps faltered and he slowed his walk as his other podium finishers drifted further ahead. “What do you mean?”
“Well, he’s been telling everyone how much better a driver he is compared to you,” you stated with a shrug. It was an exaggeration, you had overheard him complaining to his father in the garage. “But you showed him.”
“A better driver?” Charles scoffed. “He is full of shit.”
He seemed to be in deep contemplation as he walked silently, until he reached the car and turned to you. “You should come to the after party.”
Carlos had already added you to the invite list but you smiled and batted your lashes as Charles. “Are you asking me?”
He blushed and laughed at himself as he nodded. “Would you like to come to the after party with me?”
“You don’t have a girlfriend do you?”
“No,” he laughed warmly. “I wouldn’t be asking to take you if I did.”
“Then I would love to go with you.” You gave him your room number that was conveniently in the same hotel as him, since both Ferrari drivers stayed in the same one. 
You already had the perfect dress waiting in your room and as you stood in front of the mirror you had to admit you looked stunning. The red dress was tailored to your body and the plunging neckline was risque and exactly what you envisioned it to be. You couldn’t wait to see Carlos’ face when you walked into the party on his teammate's arm.
“Hey,” you greeted as you opened the door after the knock, but it wasn’t who you expected to see on the other side. “Carlos, what are you doing here?”
His jaw fell slack, lips parting, as his eyes trailed down your body. “Mios dios, hermosa.”
You held your hand out, planting it on his chest as he stepped forward to kiss you. “Woah there, buddy, not happening.”
“Why not? Why have you been ignoring me?” he asked with genuine confusion.
“I saw you fucking Rebecca last night after Qualifying.”
He looked a little sheepish as he scratched the back of his heated neck. “I couldn’t find you.”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better when you call her ‘mi amor’ too?”
“I didn’t mean it, I-I was thinking about you,” his eyes widened as his voice went up a pitch. “I swear.”
You nodded sympathetically as you rubbed his arm. “Of course, like you were thinking about me when you didn’t have that chat with Charlotte. Yeah, I know you didn't, so just go back to your girlfriend.”
“But I want you,” he pouted as he bowed his head and looked up with big brown puppy dog eyes.
“But I don’t want you. Not anymore.” You gave him a push and he ceded the space in your doorway as the  elevator across the hall opened and Charles stepped out looking good in a pair of jeans and a fitted shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbow. “Hey handsome,” you greeted him with a smile as you grabbed a black clutch with your phone and money. “Perfect timing.”
“You are breathtaking,” he said after a few blinks to recover from the sight of you. He smiled as he brushed past Carlos to kiss your cheek, ignoring the Spaniard completely. “Ready to go, chérie?”
You took his hand and sent a dark smile in Carlos’ direction as you passed by. “See you around, red man.”

Icarus Part 25
Damn. I actually hate seeing that number up there. Because that means it's done. Eight months, twenty-five chapters, 52895 words, and one hell of a ride.
I'll start posting the sequel on Tuesday, and will post Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays until it's done. I hope to get it done before October's end. But that's not looking likely at the moment.
But once it's done, I will post the epilogue. This was actually written first and was a way for me to flesh out the band members. Then I just wanted to dive right in to writing the full story. A link to the original idea here.

The rest of the American tour while it had its ups and downs was pretty much was uneventful. When Steve got back to Cali, he got some actual therapy from someone Gareth’s therapist, Dr. Sam Owens recommended to him. To not only deal with the abandonment issues left by his parents and Nancy but to help deal with the sudden onslaught of fame.
It was going well.
It was the therapist that had strongly recommended going on the vacation with his two best friends. That really helped put his life in perspective.
They were out celebrating Gareth’s one year of being sober and everyone had been invited. Jeff, Brian, and Eddie, of course. Even Vickie made it out. Dustin, Will, Mike, Max, Lucas, Ellie, Hopper, Robin, all the members of The Fallen, sans persona. Gareth had really become friends with all of them, yes even Steve. Gareth and Shane became really close. It was nice to see.
“Cheers!” Jeff said holding up their glasses of sparkling apple cider that they had all brought to share.
“Cheers!” the rest of them cried, clinking their glasses together.
They had rented out a nice surf and turf restaurant for the occasion and everyone was catching up. The owner was a friend of Jonathan’s, Argyle Rivera. He had gotten his start with a pizza food truck and it just exploded.
“So what did you and Mike decide to do?” Steve asked when there was a lull in the conversation. “I know you two weren’t sure the last time I was in Hawkins.”
Mike and Will shared a bashful look before Mike said, “I wrote a children’s book and Will illustrated it. We sent it out to a couple of different publishers so we’re just waiting to hear back.”
“That’s amazing!” Dustin cried. “You guys are going to be awesome.”
“Yeah,” Will said brightly. “I finally convinced Jonathan into going in to photography at the local community collage and he’s doing really well.”
“Nancy is going to school, too,” Mike said quietly, knowing how most of the group felt about his sister.
Eddie raised his eyebrows. “Yeah? What is the once great Nancy Wheeler going to be studying?”
Mike perked up a little that someone had taken a interest in what he said. “She’s actually going into journalism. Especially to be a war corespondent. After everything rightfully fell apart after the incident with The Fallen and Corroded Coffin, she took a hard look at her life and decided she hated the person she had become. So she’s been in therapy and has gotten into her dream school of Emerson.”
“That’s good,” Steve said quietly. Robin gave his a hand gentle squeeze and he returned it with a grateful smile.
“What are doing next, Ellie?” Brian asked. “Designing more epic costumes for the rich and famous? I saw that dress you designed for Lupita Nyong’o for the premier of her new movie. That was a gorgeous shade of purple.”
Ellie’s face dimpled in the force of her wide, happy smile. “Something like that. I’m just glad the dress turned out so well. I’ll be heading back to New York, to stay this time. I got a job at a fashion house that I’m really excited for.”
“What about you and Dusty?” Lucas asked, tilting his head. “I thought things were going great.”
Both Dustin and Ellie share a blushing smile.
“We’re still together,” Dustin replied. “I’ll be in Boston and she’ll be in New York. We’ll going to try and make it work.”
Max nodded. “Long distance can suck, but if the other person is worth it you can make it work.” She nudged Lucas’s shoulder and he grinned back.
“So you didn’t get traded to Lakers like you wanted?” Gareth asked Lucas.
He shook his head. “Maybe next year. But in the mean time, Max has a couple interviews at Tony Hawk’s video game company as a mo-cap performer for the female characters in his games.”
Everyone oohed and ahhed and congratulated her.
“I don’t have the job yet,” she muttered, but happily soaked up the attention anyway.
Dustin turned to Steve and Robin. “When are you two going to do something with your lives?”
Eddie winced and Steve and Robin didn’t even have to glance at each other to be suddenly on the same wavelength of doom.
If this was an anime you would have have seen the dark waves behind their heads.
“We make good money doing what we do,” Robin said darkly. “Yeah, it’s a bit jack of all trades, but it’s fun. We’re never stuck doing the same thing. We get travel all over the world. We get to meet famous people and all the perks of fame with the drawbacks of having our privacy invaded on the regular.”
“Jack of all trades, but master of none,” Dustin said to be pedantic. “Don’t you guys want to do something specific, like a teacher or a doctor?”
Robin snorted. “No.”
Chrissy hand covered hers, and Robin gave her a squeeze back. She was fine, just annoyed.
“Yeah,” Steve said. “And I don’t why being a jack of all trades is bad thing. Focusing on one thing is great for the people who can do it, but I love the different jobs. Roadie one tour, PA another, then EMT the next. It’s great.”
Dustin frowned, stabbing his plate with his fork.
“My therapist says people are like plants,” Gareth said, “some people are trees and they grow up slowly. Some are bamboo and in the right environment shoot up super fast. But some people are like periwinkle and grow out sideways. Robin and Steve are like that. It’s still growth, just not the growth you want them to have.”
“I guess,” he huffed. He looked up at Steve. “Are you happy doing what you do?”
Steve and Eddie shared a glance. “Yes, for all its faults, I am very happy.”
He nodded and they went back to celebrating Gareth’s year of sobriety. But under the cover of the loud celebration and raucous laughter, Vickie and Simon chatted quietly to themselves.

Steve and Eddie lay on the bed in Eddie’s mansion curled up together after sex.
“What’s wrong?” Eddie asked Steve when he had curled up under his chin and held on tight.
“We were out celebrating,” he murmured, “and I couldn’t even tell them we were in a relationship.”
“Most of the people there already knew, babe,” Eddie murmured. But when Steve didn’t say anything it clicked. “You wanted to tell the kids. Especially after the bomb Mike dropped about Nancy moving on.”
Steve nodded.
Eddie scooted down the bed to look Steve in the eye. “Whatever you do or don’t tell them is entirely up to you I don’t care either way.”
“You don’t care that we’ll never get to go on dates or be seen holding hands or kissing?” Steve asked seriously.
Eddie shook his head. “Do you want to know why?”
“I guess,” Steve said with a half shrug.
“Because when I first got into the music business,” Eddie murmured, “I slept with anyone who would give a passing fancy.”
Steve looked up at him in confusion. “But I thought you already had a crush on me then?”
“I did,” Eddie confirmed. “But here’s the thing, sweetheart, do you know who’s partners get torn apart the most in celebrity relationships?”
Steve shook his head.
“Those with non-famous partners,” Eddie said. “If your partner is anything other than a C or B list celebrity when you’re an A-list, you get called out for ‘slumming it’ and their partners get called all sorts of nasty names, but especially ‘gold digger’. Which is the last thing I wanted for you.”
“Is that why you were okay with being with after you found out I was secretly famous?”
Eddie rose up and tackled Steve into the pillows. “You listen close, Steve Harrington. That was absolutely not why. I didn’t even show up with the flowers intending on confessing anything other than knowing your secret. It was like I suddenly saw all the facets of the diamond I’d been admiring for years and realizing any reason I had to not put myself forward were stupid.”
Steve blinked up at him in awe. “Oh.”
“Yeah, baby, ‘oh’,” Eddie huffed. “Continuing to protect you from the shame and humiliation of the slings and arrows of the media is my mission in life, okay? And if you ever decide to come out, either as bisexual as Steve or as Steve as Abbadon, I will be there for you. One hundred percent.”
Steve’s eyes welled up and he nodded. “Okay.” His lips quivered. “I love you so much. I just want you to be happy.”
Eddie kissed him fiercely. “I know you do and you make me very happy. The Fallen, Abbadon, being closeted? All that? That’s just a part of you that I love.” He bounced onto the bed. “In fact...”
He grabbed his phone and started going through it. “Eureka!” He turned the phone around to a paint of a night, shielding a maiden from the sun and a large crowd of people. This is us, babe. I am the knight and you are my maiden. I won’t get tired, or upset that you need protecting.”
Steve blushed. He sat up and pulled up his knees to his chest. “When we first started coming up with names for us, we didn’t originally all have the same letter.”
Eddie raised his eyebrows. “Wait, really?”
Steve shook his head. “Spence was just Death. Shane was always Astraeus. Simon was struggling with finding a name that fit.”
“And did you have your name picked out?” Eddie asked gently, knowing where this was going.
He pursed his lips and nodded. “I didn’t think we’d make it this far. I really thought we would have crashed and burned by now.” He closed his eyes and hung his head. “Part of the myth with Icarus and the wax wings that people forget was that he was flying all over the place. That if he flied straight and true like his father suggested, he would have survived. But he flew too close to the seas as well as the sun.”
Steve sighed and then looked over at Eddie. “And that’s what I thought I was doing with the band. Flying too low with the fact that we were preps wanting to break into the metal scene and then flying too high with the personas and masks. I was going to not only wreck my life but the lives of people I cared about.”
He let out a low shuddering breath. “That maybe I should have listened to my father. To go to college, to get a degree in business, to fly straight.”
“So what changed your mind?” Eddie asked. “Other than Shane wanting everyone to have all the same letter as a middle finger to everyone trying to guess your identities, I guess.”
Steve let out a watery chuckle. “Shane reminded me of the beginning of Icarus’s story. That he had grown up in the labyrinth, never seeing the sky. How could his father had not seen that of course Icarus was going to play the second they were out? That, yes they were fleeing for their lives, but this was the first time his son had seen the sun, felt the breeze on his face and touched the waves on the sea.”
“But if Daedalus had played with Icarus instead of yelling at him, his father would have been able to keep him from getting too close to the things that would have harmed him,” Steve finished. “That he would have been there to catch his son when he began to fall.”
“So what was the lesson?” Eddie prompted.
“I wasn’t Icarus,” Steve said. “I was always free, I might have fallen from grace according to my parents, but that like God in the Christian story, they were cruel and cast me out because what they wanted for me wasn’t what I wanted.”
Eddie smiled. “So you became Abbadon instead. The one that fell but God still relied on to destroy the wicked. The opposite of Steve Harrington. The boy that rose up like a phoenix from the ashes to be better than his parents dreamed.”
Steve nodded. “Yeah. Icarus was the first to fall mythos wise, but Abbadon was the one people fear coming back.”
Eddie pulled him close. “Well, you’re my angel, now. Fallen or not, I’m not giving you up for anything.”
Steve kissed him softly. “I’m putting a lot of trust you, Munson. Don’t fuck this up.”
Eddie laughed and kissed him fiercely. Then he proceeded to show Steve all the ways loved him.
Steve knew he might always have doubts and fears, but now he had the support system he always needed.
It was more than past time to fly and in Eddie’s arms there was no limit to how high he could go now.
And he wouldn’t want it any other way.

Q: You guys have incredible chemistry. It hinges on that. Can you talk a little bit about how you built that kind of connection?
JA: I find it so difficult to talk about chemistry. Because me and Sam… like each other.
SR: Yeah. I think we’re very similar in a lot of ways, and that was a big relief. It’s a very bizarre job to do when you’re doing it, cause you’re shooting entirely at night, you have amazing costumes and contact lenses and accents and teeth and blood. The scenes, while they feel like they have a flow to them, there’s a lot of splitting up while we do it because we’ve got to have special effects come in or the blood come in, or we’re on a rig of some kind. So it’s a weird experience, and we also had these extraordinary lines of dialogue to say as well. And so to have somebody who’s similar, can process these things the same way as you and bounce off of and decompress with is vital.
JA: Yeah, and the first step is you just have a common language that you find, and sometimes it clicks and sometimes it doesn’t. And we were just lucky that we, you know…
SR: Yeah. Yup.

Q: The relationship between Louis and Lestat is rife with complications, but at its core there's obviously a real connection there. What was it like crafting this tumultuous relationship on screen with Sam Reid? You two are quite good friends having come out the other end of Season 1.
JA: Yeah, we were good friends when we were doing it and I think that's part of why it worked out for us! We didn't put too much emphasis on trying to figure everything out. The scripts are so beautiful, the writing is so dense and so full of life and detail that you don't need to discuss it too much. Obviously, we talked to the directors, and they'd have ideas and we'd have ideas, but I think, in terms of me and Sam finding it, I think we just paid attention to each other. We just trusted the writing, trusted each other, and it meant that we’d already be prepared for whatever was going to come up. We felt comfortable with each other, so we could try things and it felt safe. It felt like we could play around with body language and with eye contact and all these things. But it was unspoken, I think. It wasn't something that we spent a lot of time discussing. Everything's intentional to a certain extent, but there's this other thing that is just about instinct and listening really.
Q: And having the right scene partner where that happens.
JA: Yeah, I felt really lucky! Sam gives you so much. There's so much to play off and I hope that I did the same for him. Our first day of shooting we did the opera house stuff, and I was so excited. It's the scene where he talks about loneliness, and I remember thinking even though I'd got to know him a little bit and we'd done a bit of rehearsal and we'd become friends by that point, I was like, "Oh wow, this is going to be really special! I'm going to get to do this every day. I'm going to get to watch this character come to life and respond to it." That's a gift. Sam Reid is a gift!
Q: The relationship between Louis and Lestat is rife with complications, but at its core there’s a real connection there. What was it like crafting this tumultuous relationship on screen with Jacob Anderson? You two are quite good friends having come out the other side of Season 1 so if anything, I’m sure the experience brought you closer together? 
SR: Yeah, definitely. It definitely brought us closer together. It was really crazy this stuff that we were doing together. We'd have these massive scenes, and it would be just him and I in the middle of the night playing opposite each other, not really being able to see each other all the time with the contact lenses. You just rely so heavily on one another. You also rely on each other because you're like, "Have we pushed it too far? Is it too much? Is it enough? Like, do we believe each other?" Because it's this very intense relationship but we’re also supernatural beings. So, you're constantly having to reframe the way that you look at a relationship and say, "Well, hang on, my character has all this power." Like in Episode 4, I remember saying, when all the police are coming over to the house, I was like, "Why are we even worried about this? I don't understand why I would be even concerned about this at all." But you're negotiating with someone who's going, "Yeah, but my desire to have a connection to humanity makes this important," and so you're like, "Oh, okay." We managed to balance off each other in that way, because my character's way past any connection to humanity and Jacob's character is holding onto those last threads of his humanity. When we'd both be examining a scene, we'd both be coming at it from different angles. Because of the love between the two characters, there's always that negotiation and blunting of the other's real intention. I couldn't really imagine doing it with anybody else! We did all of it, everything, together, really.

Q: In what ways does the show’s really rich visual palette and then of course Sam and Jacob’s lightning-in-a-bottle chemistry on screen influence some of the choices that you made on the score throughout your process?
DH: There’s a theme that I would call their love theme, and it’s sprinkled throughout the first episode but it played in full over the end credits in a piece called “In Throes of Increasing Wonder”. And that theme appears in almost every episode, I think, in some form or another. I don’t think that theme was possible before I had seen some of that interaction between Jacob and Sam as Lestat and Louis. It’s born of their emotional reactions to each other.

Q: You and Jacob did your chemistry tests over Zoom? Which, I mean, does anyone have chemistry over Zoom?
SR: Yeah, I don’t really know what they were looking for or how you’re supposed to gauge chemistry from that, because it was really glitchy and we were all speaking on top of each other and trying really hard to act into the camera, which just wasn’t working. But look, I really… Jacob is such a lovely person, such a really fantastic actor and so easy to be around. And I could see that he was going to be a very easy person to fall in love with. So it was fun. In fact I just came from having ice cream with Jacob and he says hello.
Q: Oh my God, I’m obsessed. I want these moments. Give me that footage, okay? I want ice cream footage, I want strolling the streets of downtown New Orleans footage.
SR (laughs): Yeah, I mean we hang out all the time and we’ve become very, very good friends. Cause it is a crazy journey that we’re on and it was a crazy job, so it’s really lovely to have such a good friend.

Q: Talking about Sam, how much time did y’all get before you started actually shooting? It’s like “Okay, we’re in love now and it’s going to be very tortured and complicated” – Rolling!
JA: Yeah. I don’t know if I completely believe in luck, but I think there’s like a weird cosmic luck in this whole thing. It is a huge roll of the dice. The first day we met each other, obviously we both had our masks on, and we had a hug and we were like “Oh hi”. And then we just spent the next day walking around New Orleans and getting to know each other. And I truly love that man, so much. Like, we connected so quickly and just found like… And I think part of that as well is that there’s a level of trust that we had to have, otherwise we weren’t going to be able to do this at those hours, and those scenes, and the intimacy of their relationship, and also the toxicity and the fire in it. We had to really hold each other and be like “All right, have we got each other’s back?” And we did, we were just like “We’re in this together. Let’s listen to each other and try and have fun.” And we did, we had a lot of fun. I thought that taking on this role would be quite triggering for me in lots of different ways. I thought it was going to force me to have to reconcile with lots of feelings that I had. I thought it was going to be just a guilt and shame and despair fest for six months. And actually I just found it really, really cathartic being Louis, and Louis has helped me a lot. I think there’s something about acceptance in Louis and acceptance of self, and like “This is who I am, this is who I’ve been, and I’m enduring, I’m choosing to keep going. I’m choosing to accept who I am.” And that was really helpful for me. So rather than feeling tortured, I think I ended up just feeling very… held, very comforted by the whole thing, in a weird sort of way.

Q: I’m wondering what you guys would do or how you would hang out on set. Is there hanging out or are you more like “Okay, they’re setting up a light, I gotta go lay down, I can’t with you right now.”
JA: No, we were pretty inseparable, to be fair. There wasn’t really any hanging out. We just were. At a certain point, we just were. We didn’t share a trailer, but it was like, a wall separating us. And we’d just end up sitting on the stairs or texting each other through the wall.
SR (laughs): Through the wall, just texting all the time.
JA: We became a hive mind.
SR: We did, yeah.
Q: Were you still a hive mind once you wrapped? Would you still text and stuff?
JA: Yeah.
SR: Yeah.
JA: We’re going to the theatre tonight. We’ve seen each other every day for the last week. We’re still choosing to spend time together. It’s probably not very healthy. Very co-dependent (laughs).

Q: Obviously viewers are in love with Jacob and Sam. People are tweeting me photos of them eating ice cream. We call ourselves #icecreamhive. The fandom is strong. Can you tell me about how you found Jacob and Sam, and the process of deciding they were Louis and Lestat?
Rolin Jones: Well, obviously 9 billion people auditioned. You kind of get down to ten actors that you like on both sides. The simple math of it is the second those two got into their Zoom rooms together, it was very clear something very dynamic was happening. On Jacob’s side, there’s this sort of genuine warmth, kindness, humanity. You’re like “Okay, for a character who’s going to make a number of questionable choices, how do you make them want to love him?” And on Sam: I saw his face and I said “No fucking way! No fucking way that guy, this chiselled, stupid chiselled, with his locks and his dreamy eyes. I was like no, no, no, no. And then I pressed play, and he really knew how big we were going to go. He was wildly specific and subtle. It was in his voice. There was something a little Jeff Bridges/Starman about it, and I was like “Oh, this guy feels like an alien and he feels other than us”. They both won the audition, that’s basically what happened. Although I’ll tell you, here’s a dirty secret: ready for this? Sam bought this piece of technology, that you can do a push-in close-up right when the scene is getting a little juicy. And I just started laughing my ass off. I was like “Oh my God, this guy wants this so hard.”
Mark Johnson: You called me the first time you had seen Sam, and you were just so excited about the potential of this guy and you basically said: “He’s going to be next to impossible to beat.” And sure enough, nobody could really touch him. But from the very first time you saw his audition you were pretty convinced that we had our Lestat.

JA: Sam is just like my… partner-in-crime, and I feel so lucky that I got to spend every day with him. We had to do a lot of stuff in this show and when I say a lot of stuff I mean, those nights are no joke. Knowing those scenes and working on those scenes together at that hour – you can only do that with somebody that you like, even if the scene calls for tension. I think you would just kill each other if you didn’t like each other.

JA: For anything I got to do with Sam, that relationship is so fun to play. You bond in a really particular way when you're working nights and dealing with these lofty themes. The feelings are huge in every scene. If you don't have that common language and find that chemistry... I don't think me and Sam needed to find it, there was something natural that we found together. Q: Jacob and Sam, I feel like the show wouldn’t work unless the chemistry’s there between Louis and Lestat. There’s a lot riding on that. So how did you two form this immortal bond, if you will, during filming, knowing how important it was?
JA: We just spent a lot of time together even when we didn’t need to (laughs). I don’t know, like, how do you put that kind of thing into words? It’s just, like… I really love Sam. I like spending time with him. I like working with him. I find the way that we talk about what we’re doing… Well, we’re not talking about what we’re doing all the time but I think we have a similar language. I dunno, it’s ki(smet?)… It’s, like, how do you describe a vibe? (laughs)
Q: Sam, how do you describe the vibe?
SR: I think the work, the world and the characters are so extreme and it’s a very intense thing to do. And I think we leant on each other a lot throughout the process and we were very grateful for the friendship that we had built to be able to get through six months of night and some pretty intense scenes. And to have someone that you can look across the room and have a private giggle with and get on with the job and debrief with at the end of the day is invaluable. Chemistry with actors is a complicated beast because it is our job to manufacture it, but when you don’t have to and it just comes naturally it makes everything so much more easy and enjoyable, particularly when you’re nude and bleeding (laughs). You’re really happy you have a buddy (unintelligible).
Q: I was in the Entertainment Weekly suite when all you guys came through for Comic Con at the Hard Rock Hotel and, I mean, I was watching you all interact. Bailey, break it down for me: these two, do they have like a super-bromance going on? Like, what is happening?
Bailey Bass: They’re best friends! They really are, it’s really precious. (Delighted grin from Jacob) Look at Jacob’s face! (laughs)
JA: Are we best friends, Sam?
SR: Yeah, you’re my best friend.
Eric Bogosian: I have to say, I have to throw in: I have two sons who are roughly the age of these guys, and we all went over to Comic Con, us three. And walking around was like being with my kids. The two of them are just like together (clasps hands together) getting into everything and I’m following them around, like “Wait a second, wait a second! Let me catch up with you there!” I didn’t really get it when I first got to set, I didn’t understand what was going on with these two guys, because they were so happy and they were so tired and they were so bonded and I was like “What dimension have I entered here?”

SR: Jacob and I get on well, we have a close friendship. We bonded strongly throughout the making of this show. Q: Louis and Lestat have an iconic relationship: epic, spanning years and continents, lives ruined, bloodshed. What is it like bringing that to the screen and working together to really establish that immortal bond?
JA: It’s been the greatest partnership – creative partnership – in my life.

SR: I’d agree, actually. It’s very hard, it’s a very intense relationship that they have, and you have to believe in that relationship. The things they do to each other are so extreme and painful and hurtful. And it’s been fun to have a real buddy to go through that and debrief with at the end of the day.
JA: I’m not sure how we could’ve done everything that we’ve done if we didn’t really trust each other.
SR: Yeah, it would’ve been awful if we hated each other.
JA: And it’s one of the great… you know, in the books, when they join together again – even when you know how awful they’ve been to each other – it’s just like you’re home, and I think that’s something that we always subconsciously tried to make sure was in there. They are kind of like home to each other, particularly after Louis’ human attachments start to fall away.
Eric Bogosian: I just want to say, these two guys (pointing to Jacob and Sam), it’s great watching them, their bonding and everything. The only difference between them and the guys in the fictional world: I’ve never seen them fight.
Bailey Bass: They were walking together alongside the San Diego beach. (To Jacob and Sam) You were! I mean, how adorable is that?
JA: We’re quite co-dependent. I don’t know if that’s a problem (laughs).

JA: Me and Sam spent 40 minutes yesterday in a sticker shop. Like, just looking at stickers and buying stickers. That’s not a thing that you ever really talk about. You don’t go like “Are you into stickers?”, you know? It’s just, I dunno, we just have similarities that we couldn’t have really… We couldn’t have known that we were so similar, but it really helped us when we were working, even if we didn’t know it at the time.

When Sam and I are in a room together and we’re about to shoot a scene as these characters, it’s exciting. Q: How do you go about building such rippling chemistry with another human being, with Jacob? And I know the answer is “chemistry is chemistry”, but how? How do you do it?
SR: Well, I don’t “build” anything. Unfortunately I’m going to give you that same answer. But we’re very good friends. We’re really close. I don’t know if that chemistry happens before you become friends or after, but there’s a lot of trust and we just have a lot of fun making this show. I think chemistry isn’t just two actors or two people together: it’s the whole group, it’s everyone who makes the show. It’s the space, it’s the feeling when you come on set, and you feel like you can do things, try things, be experimental, push the boundaries a little bit. And that creates a sense of play and trust. You might think that it’s just Louis and Lestat’s chemistry, but it’s actually the whole chemistry of every cast member and every creative and every director, every piece of beautiful dialogue we have, the design, down to every crew member. Everyone puts a lot of chemistry into it, so it’s a pot – a big, bubbly pot.
Rolin Jones: Bowling, too. They do a lot of bowling.
SR: We go bowling, yeah. I should’ve said that.

SR: Yeah, we eat a lot of ice cream. And we do sticker play (laughs).

It wasn’t terribly far - a half-hour drive with no traffic, maybe - from where her parents now lived, still placed near to the coast. It wasn’t actually a ‘house’ either, more of a condo built in a line to save costs. It would’ve been cheaper to live further inland, but…
She’d had enough of that.
Besides, the place wasn’t actually hers. When she’d divorced Albion and come back to the coast, she’d also quit her job. With no contacts, no friends, and no savings that weren’t tied up in litigation, she would’ve had nowhere to go in her civilian identity. She also wasn’t sure if she was going to have to deal with a super-powered ex husband knocking at all hours, which was something most renters disapproved of, as a rule.
But where Minerva had no one, Athena had a lifeline. When she and Legionnaire had done volunteer work in the past, she’d always felt it was just part of her duty. An obligation that came with having superpowers. Sometimes you put the costume on to hit something, and sometimes you put the costume on to build something. Since neither of them had been dependent on their hero identity 24/7, they’d always declined any offers of compensation.
But that didn’t mean they’d been forgotten. Shepherd Flight was a volunteer group who specialized in organizing super powered individuals for rescue and relief operations - they mostly focused on the initial crisis, but weren’t afraid of working to help rebuild things too. Minerva had gone through floodwaters and hurricanes under their direction, and also used her strength to help hold up beams for building shelters. One of her favorite memories was helping plant a garden in a refugee camp.
Shepherd Flight was also known for its discretion. Several capes worked exclusively for them, staying out of hero or villain business in the traditional sense. Some of them maintained a separation between the mask and the civilian, but others didn’t.
So Minerva had gone to them, intending to ask if she could rest on a couch in their headquarters or something while she figured out her next move. Instead, a man named ‘Sun Dog’ had checked their records, asked her a few questions, and then handed her the keys to an address. Apparently, Shepherd Flight also aided ‘capes in distress.’
Minerva had scowled, but couldn’t really argue the point.
She’d looked into it since - the space they’d given her was most frequently used for helping move displaced persons who needed to travel, or temporary housing for other members of Shepherd Flight who needed a place unaffiliated with any identity. One of the questions she’d been asked was how she felt about potentially having a house full of strange guests on little-to-no notice. Minerva had grown up dealing with the Pacific Northwest’s forest fires, and had told Sun Dog she knew exactly how fast they could go. If refugees needed a place to stay, she’d gladly vacate.
So far, that hadn’t happened, though Sun Dog had also told her that someone would stop by occasionally with groceries, to keep the place stocked. And to check in on her.
She probably should’ve told them she was fine when she was whisked off to a supervillain’s private island. She hadn’t.
So she wasn’t surprised, per se, to open the door and see a stranger in the kitchen. Startled, perhaps. But neither of them attacked each other, so that was a good start.
“Uhm.” Said the person in the kitchen, holding a spoon awkwardly poised between their mouth and a pudding cup.
“Wrong door.” Minerva said automatically, holding the keys that had unlocked the front door and the guard mechanism.
“Is it?” The stranger asked hesitantly.
Minerva sighed, “No. I… lived here for a bit. As a… guest.”
“Oh!” The stranger lit up with a smile - and a touch of phantom flame that Minerva watched cautiously. “You must be the one who went missing! Yeah, they told me you might come back - hey, I’m Wi-Fire, by the way.”
They moved forward to offer a hand, slowing their approach when Minerva instinctively leaned away. Still, it wasn’t like she needed both hands to hold her bag, and once upon a time she’d been… better, if not exactly ‘good’ at this. So she took the offered hand, clasping it rather than shaking.
“Athena.” She returned, the introduction automatic. Instead of giving herself time to think about whether that was the right name to give, she forced herself onwards, remembering there were other details she was supposed to give on greeting. “She/Her.”
Wi-Fire’s grin broadened, and they bounced a little in place. “They/them!” They returned, even more cheerfully than before. “It’s the third bedroom that’s yours, right? I haven’t touched it, since he said you might come back, but I’ve only been here for about a week. That reminds me - have you called him yet? Sun Dog? He’s super worried about you, pun unintended.”
Minerva was, abruptly, reminded of Alexandria. “… No, I haven’t called him yet. I was just here to-“
She paused. What was she here to do? Spend a few hours staring at a wall, unobserved? Get the rest of her things and go? It wasn’t exactly much, just a few extra changes of clothes, a few books. She did want to make sure the space she’d used was clean, but given how little time she’d spent here, that shouldn’t take more than an hour. Two, if she stopped to do laundry.
Minerva had paused for too long. Wi-Fire just nodded, sympathetic. “Yeah, I feel that. I’m up in the attic - the other rooms are still empty, there’s nothing wrong with them or anything, I just.” They cut off, simply ending the sentence, as though a signal had been lost between one word and the next. They shrugged.
“Yeah.” Minerva echoed, thinking of how she’d chosen the room with the best view of the ocean, even if it was just a sliver.
Wi-Fire winces, “Crap. Sorry. Forgot we’re not supposed to really, like. Fraternize. I didn’t see anything?” Their last sentence is hopeful, as though an offering they want Minerva to take.
“It’s fine.” She assures them, readjusting her grip on her bag. “If you’ve seen me, you can pass on to Sun Dog that I’m fine, right?”
For a heartbeat, she thinks she’s pulled it off, and she’ll be able to just get her things and leave. But Wi-Fire just laughs.
“I mean, sure - but you’ll have to scram if you wanna avoid him.” They scrape at the bottom of the pudding cup. “He’ll be here in like. Twenty minutes?”

Minerva is not done packing in twenty minutes. Actually, she’s not done in fifteen, which is when Sun Dog actually arrives. She can hear him greeting Wi-Fire from where she’s working upstairs, meticulously folding towels to be stored in the bathroom before she leaves.
Minerva snaps the final towel free of wrinkles, places it on the pile, and goes to meet him. Better she doesn’t get cornered.
Sun Dog and Wi-Fire aren’t talking, when Minerva arrives. No, that makes it sound like they’re in a stand off, and really, it’s more that they don’t need to be. Minerva catches the end of a fistbump-into-a-shoulder check, and an exchange of smiles, before Sun Dog’s eyes flick up and see her on the stairs.
“Ah!” In civilian clothing, Sun Dog looks like a Bay Area hobbyist come north. His reaction to seeing her is surprise, but also something positive. Joy? Excitement? Delight? “M-“
“Athena!” Wi-Fire cuts in, overriding Sun Dog with their own exclamation, and avoiding accidentally learning Minerva’s real name. Not that it matters, anymore.
Minerva’s spine could be used as a flagpole. “Sun Dog.” She replies, voice cool, as though their excitement at seeing her had been an embarrassment rather than an open welcome. It isn’t on purpose. “Wi-Fire.”
She doesn’t apologize for interrupting, or claim she didn’t mean to, because there’d be no point. Instead, Minerva meets Sun Dog’s gaze, “I’m cleaning up after myself, then I’ll be out of your way.”
“You don’t have to do that-“ Sun Dog starts to assure her, then backtracks. Minerva must have looked offended. “- but we’re grateful that you’d take the time.”
He glances at Wi-Fire, who gets the hint. They give Minerva a double thumbs-up, and another near maniacal grin, and then scamper off. Minerva is distracted, briefly, by the mental image of a young Synovus, gifted with fire instead of shadows.
Terrifying.
Still, thinking of the one problem won’t rid her of the other. Minerva descends the rest of the stairs to stand even with Sun Dog, her arms folded. Her expression must’ve shown something (or maybe Sun Dog just gauged the depths of the bags under her eyes) because instead of saying anything else, Sun Dog just tilts his head towards the door.
“How about a walk?”

With the ocean not far, there was plenty of beach to walk along. It was too late in the season to hope for much sun, but again, it didn’t really bother Minerva. And, with both of them in nondescript windbreakers, they seemed no more suspicious than anyone else ever did.
She wished she didn’t feel like she needed to worry about being suspicious.
They walked in silence for a while, just the sound of sand crunching beneath boots, and the ever present roar of the ocean’s movements. The wind blew in from off the coast, sharp and cold. It whipped her hair around her face, but she mostly ignored it.
Eventually, Sun Dog broke the silence. “Did you know I didn’t actually intend to go by ‘Sun Dog’?”
Minerva glanced around, as though the wind and general absence of other people wasn’t enough to ensure they weren’t overheard. Sun Dog waited.
“Then why did you?”
“Media.” He answered simply. “I wanted to name myself Parhelion. Its the… let’s call it scientific word for a Sun Dog phenomena. They thought one had a better ring to it.”
“So you’re a scientist.” Minerva kicked lightly at the sand on her next step.
“Amateur, sure. But I don’t mind admitting that the name scared the hell out of me at first.”
Minerva hesitated, then nodded. “Yes. I can understand why.”
Sun Dog. In a world still recovering from the sudden disappearance of Sunhallow, any sun imagery was suddenly circumspect. It could be viewed in a hundred different lights, none of them favorable.
“I almost gave up being a hero entirely.” Sun Dog confided. “I was too scared that one day someone would show up, and tell me I was encroaching on their brand.”
Humor, but not enough to hide that neither of them speak his name. Minerva knows he’s dead - she’s seen the grave, spoken to his killer. But there is the thought that lingers. Just in case.
“Why didn’t you?” Minerva asked, staring forward at the tree line.
“Letters. One in particular, that told me he’d never be dead so long as we let him hold that much power over something so ubiquitous as the sun. They said they knew how much it must cost me, but that the world needed people like me to rebuild it, to heal over the scars.”
“And was that one from the Dalai Lama or the President.” Her voice wasn’t bitter so much as it was… dry. Humor. She’s learning how to use it again.
Sun Dog squinted into the wind. “Could’ve been either, I suppose. It was signed, but with a moniker. Eclipse.”
He glanced at her, shrugged. “I’ve never known anyone to go by that name.”
Minerva was silent for a step. Two. Then, “No. Neither have I.”

They wind up stopping at a picnic table tucked just under the tree line, out of the worst of the wind. It’s one of those weather-worn gray contraptions, the kind someone placed years ago and forgot, leaving it for hikers or curious children.
They’ve talked about a few things, here and there. Sun Dog keeps offering small bits of himself, trying to draw Minerva out again, and slowly, she becomes part of the conversation. Childhood pets. Obnoxious commercial jingles that stick even after the company and product are long gone. Nothing pressing. Nothing political.
But after they’d spent a few minutes in a comfortable silence, a natural lull in the conversation, Sun Dog has pulled a deck of cards out of his pocket.
“Hope you’re not looking for poker.” Minerva said with barely a glance. “I don’t have anything to bet.”
Sun Dog laughed, “These aren’t those kind of cards. But if you’re willing, I’d like to do a reading for you. Tarot.”
“Wait.” Minerva raised her brows, leaning back slightly. “You don’t actually believe in those, do you?”
She realized, approximately half a second too late to stop herself, how offensive that likely sounded. Luckily, Sun Dog laughed again.
“You could use a tank as a baseball bat.” He said, corners of his eyes crinkled in a smile. “And have dealt with clairvoyants, shape-shifters, literal magic users - but ‘some cards’ is where you draw the line?”
Minerva ducked her head, submitting to the teasing. “Alright, you have a point. I don’t really know how they work, though.” “You don’t need to.” Sun Dog assured her. “You just need to shuffle and draw the cards. Three of them, face down, left to right. We’ll go over what they mean one by one.”
She felt, suddenly, unaccountably nervous. She managed a murmured thanks as Sun Dog handed her the deck, no longer stiff from newness, but not quite well-worn either. For a moment, she simply spread the cards in her hands, sliding them with her thumb, and studying the backs. They were larger than she remembered most playing cards being. She hoped she remembered how to shuffle correctly.
A few cuts of the deck, and a reassurance from Sun Dog that it was alright to bend them, and Minerva fanned the cards apart, couching them back together into a bridge. Another few cuts, another bridge. And the third time, to keep them balanced.
“Three off the top?” She asked. Sun Dog shrugged, “If that’s what speaks to you.” He laughed again at Minerva’s displeased expression, but nodded encouragingly. “Go on. Three cards, face down. That’s all.”
Minerva sighed. She pulled the card from the top, one from the bottom, and - fanning the cards again - slipped one from the middle at random, laying them each face down on the table in front of her.
“Good.” Sun Dog said encouragingly, accepting the rest of the deck back. “So, this is something of a ‘past, present, future’ spread. Go ahead and flip the first card.”
Minerva rolled her eyes, and moved to place her hand on it - then paused. This trepidation was unlike her. She had no reason to be nervous, because this was a pre-generated deck of cards. It held no personalized information, and could not reveal anything about her of substance, because it was a randomized card. 
That argument wasn’t holding up the way it normally would’ve. Some part of her resolve crumbled.
Well. She reasoned, If it’s in the past, I’ve already survived it once. I can do it again.
That seemed to do the trick. She flipped the card over, and was greeted with the image of someone in what she placed as quintessential peasant’s garb… carrying a bundle of sticks? The roman numeral for ten was placed above it, and the individual’s face couldn’t be seen, buried in the bundle they were carrying as they walked away from the viewer.
“The ten of wands.” Sun Dog identified. “Wands are associated with fire. They tend to be about passion, strengths, and willpower. The ten of wands in particular is a representation of burden and responsibility. It is good to be depended on - but not to be overworked.”
Minerva shifted, but said nothing. Sun Dog gave her a moment, then indicated the next card. “The next one, then?”
This one took little effort to turn - whether it was out of a desire to get it over with or simply because she’d shaken off whatever feeling she’d had earlier, Minerva didn’t know. This time, the card was upside down, and she moved to straighten it.
“No -” Sun Dog stopped her, “I mean, if you want to flip it so you can look at it, you can, but drawing them upside down actually means something. ‘Reversed’ cards invert or change the meaning.”
Minerva pursed her lips, flipping the card briefly to get a better look at it. A figure visible only from the waist up, in what appeared to be mail and plate armor. A star spangled canopy offered protection from the yellow sky, and the numeral for seven that floated just above it. The figure had a staff in one hand, and what looked like two sphinxes in front of it - the left black, the white right, each with a different expression.
“The Chariot.” She read, flicking the card back over to be upside down again.
“Another willpower card.” Sun Dog commented. “The Chariot is triumphant - you see how the sphynxes are angled in opposite directions? They should go nowhere, but the driver manages to drive the chariot onwards. Nothing that they carry is a gift. Instead, they are rewards earned.”
“But it’s reversed,” Minerva said dryly, “Meaning… that I’m currently a freeloader?”
“Or that you feel that way.” Sun Dog countered. “The cards aren’t quite so literal as we might hope, sometimes. Go ahead and flip the third card.”
“Another upside down one.” Minerva remarked, considering the angel depicted on the card. “Sorry, reversed. Temperance.”  She snorted, placing the card on the table with the others, and then shoving her hands into her pockets.
“Ah, I love the Temperance card.” Sun Dog picked it up briefly, smiling at it, before he laid it back down. “It’s a card of transitions, that one. I - is something wrong?”
Minerva hadn’t been able to hide her flinch at that one. She scowled, more angry at herself than anything - but it seemed the last few days had scraped her raw, left her open and readable. And… she did trust Sun Dog. So she forced herself to clear her throat, and spoke quietly;
“I have a daughter.”
Sun Dog made a vaguely congratulatory noise, a positive sympathy for someone speaking of their loved ones. Minerva’s hands bunched in her pockets.
“I spent most of her life convinced she was my son.” She said quietly.
“Ah.” Sun Dog leaned back, head canted so he could look up for a moment, considering. Minerva knew there was a wealth of information in that, and how she’d presented it, and the connections he could even now be drawing. But she’d refused to run from this. So she sat still, and unwavering, and waited for the judgment she deserved.
“I don’t think it means that kind of transition.” Sun Dog said finally, looking back at her again. “Not in this context, though a gender transition is a common reading of the card. My congratulations to your daughter, by the way.”
Minerva let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. “Then it doesn’t….” She trailed off, mind unwilling to complete the sentence.
“Doesn’t what?”
“This is the future card, isn’t it?” She said quietly, rather than elaborate immediately. “And reversed, meaning an inverse of the meaning. So if it was about - her transition, and how I pertain to it, then… I would be a roadblock to it. I wouldn’t…” She trailed off again, but Sun Dog only waited.
“... get better.” She finished lamely.
“That you’re worried about it tells me how much you care,” Sun Dog said gently, placing one hand halfway across the table. He couldn’t take hers, given she still had them clenched in her pockets, but she recognized the gesture for what it was meant to be. “But no, I don’t think that’s what the card means in this context. Temperance is the balance between remaining practical, and our dreams. Grounded reality, versus the water of our dreams.”
“So I’m… losing that balance?”
Sun Dog hummed, uncertain, “You might lose that balance, that could be an outcome.” He acknowledged. “But take the cards as they’re important to you. Water is fairly important to you, right?”
Minerva only nodded.
“Then perhaps the reversal isn’t telling you that you’re going to lose your balance. Maybe it’s telling you not to worry so much about that balance - that temperance is not, in fact, what you need to do now.” Sun Dog raised his hands, “I’m no expert. But sometimes we really do need to let loose.”
Minerva stared at the card arrangement for several more minutes. Her mind picked up on patterns, even when she didn’t mean for it to, didn’t intend to read into it. The past, hiding her face from everyone in a mask, carrying a burden she thought she was obligated to take on. The present, lost, her rules turned on their head as surely as the chariot driver was. A canopy of stars, protective shadows against a sky of light… and a being that was neither male nor female, free, offering her the opportunity to move on. 
“I’m not taking advice from a deck of cards.” She heard herself say.
Sun Dog shrugged. “Then take it as advice from me. You see something in the cards - that’s what they’re for. Reflecting what you need to see, to be able to face it.”
Minerva let out a long breath, forcing herself to relax the tension that had settled into her shoulders and spine. She looked up, meeting Sun Dog’s gaze with her own.
“How much do you know about Synovus?”

I always knew something wasn’t right about Jill Roberts. There was something in the way she carried herself, always calm, always collected, even in the face of chaos. And with the Ghostface killings happening again, it didn’t take long for the suspicion to creep in. But I ignored it. I buried it deep, unable to reconcile the girl I had fallen for with the monster behind the mask.
Jill was magnetic—there was no other word for it. The way she moved through the halls at school, commanding attention without ever seeming to care, drew me in like a moth to a flame. She made everyone around her disappear, and when it was just the two of us, she made me feel like I was the only person in the world.
It wasn’t until that night, in the shadows of her bedroom, that I finally saw the truth.
We had spent the evening together, like usual. There was something about Jill that always kept me on edge, but not in a bad way. It was the kind of tension that made my heart race whenever she looked at me, her dark eyes full of something I couldn’t quite name. Something dangerous. That night, though, there was something different about her. Something sharper, darker.
We were sitting on her bed, talking about nothing in particular when she excused herself to go to the bathroom. I waited, fidgeting with my hands, trying to ignore the gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach. Something wasn’t right, but I couldn’t place it. Not until I heard the faint sound of something being pulled from her closet.
When Jill stepped back into the room, my breath caught in my throat.
She wasn’t wearing the hoodie and jeans she had left in. No, she was dressed in the unmistakable black robes of Ghostface, the long, flowing fabric cascading down her body. The white mask covered her face, the empty eyes staring straight into mine.
And I hated myself for it, but I found it hot.
My heart pounded in my chest, my skin tingling as my brain tried to process what was happening. It was Jill. Jill was Ghostface. But instead of fear, all I felt was a twisted kind of desire.
"Surprised?" she asked, her voice muffled behind the mask but still unmistakably hers.
I didn’t respond. I couldn’t. All I could do was stare at her, my mind racing, trying to reconcile the girl I knew—the girl I loved—with the killer standing in front of me.
"I thought you’d like this," she said, stepping closer, the edges of the robe brushing against the floor as she moved. "You’ve always been drawn to danger, haven’t you?"
I should’ve run. I should’ve screamed, or called the police, or done anything other than what I did. But I didn’t. Instead, I found myself stepping toward her, my body moving on its own. My heart was pounding, but not with fear. It was something else. Something darker.
She reached up and pulled the mask off, revealing her face beneath, her lips curled into a smirk that sent a shiver down my spine. "What’s the matter, Y/N? Cat got your tongue?"
I swallowed hard, my mouth dry. "Jill… what are you doing?"
She tilted her head, her eyes glinting with amusement. "What does it look like I’m doing? I’m showing you the real me."
I should’ve been terrified. But all I could think about was how close she was, how the fabric of her costume brushed against my bare skin as she leaned in, her breath warm against my neck.
"You’re not scared, are you?" she whispered, her voice low, teasing.
I shook my head, even though I should have been. "No," I whispered, though it felt like a lie. I wasn’t scared of her. I was scared of what she made me feel.
"Good," she said, her lips brushing against mine in a brief, teasing kiss. "Because we both know you’re not as innocent as you pretend to be."
The rest of the night was a blur of emotions I couldn’t quite explain. There was fear, sure, but it was wrapped in something else—something darker and more dangerous. Jill had always been the one to push boundaries, and being with her felt like walking a tightrope. But I was hooked. Even knowing what she was, what she had done, I couldn’t pull myself away.
She kissed me, her lips soft but demanding, and I melted into her, my hands gripping the fabric of her Ghostface robe as if it was the only thing keeping me tethered to reality. It was wrong. I knew it was wrong. But being with Jill had never felt right in the traditional sense. She was a storm, a force of nature, and I was caught in her wake, unable to break free.
"Does this scare you?" she asked, her voice a low purr as she traced a finger along my jawline.
I shook my head, my heart racing. "No," I lied again, because the truth was much more complicated. I wasn’t scared of her. I was scared of myself. Of how much I wanted her, even now.
She smirked, her eyes dark and knowing. "Good," she whispered, her lips brushing against my neck, sending a shiver down my spine. "Because I don’t want you to be scared. I want you to want this."
The next morning, I woke up tangled in the sheets, the events of the night before playing on a loop in my mind. Jill lay next to me, her Ghostface costume discarded on the floor. She looked so peaceful, so normal. It was hard to believe that just hours ago, she had been wearing the mask, her hands stained with the blood of our friends.
I should have felt guilty. I should have felt disgusted. But all I could think about was how much I wanted her. How much I still wanted her, even after everything.
Jill stirred beside me, her eyes fluttering open as she smiled lazily. "Morning," she murmured, her voice thick with sleep.
"Morning," I whispered back, my heart pounding in my chest. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was in too deep, that being with Jill was a game I couldn’t win. But even knowing that, I couldn’t walk away.
Not yet.
We spent the day together, just like any other couple, but there was a tension between us now. I couldn’t forget what I had seen, what I now knew. Jill was Ghostface, and I was trapped in her web. But as much as I knew I should leave, I couldn’t. She had me, body and soul, and I wasn’t ready to give her up.
Not yet.
Jill leaned over, her hand brushing against mine as she gave me a knowing smile. "You’re not scared of me, are you?"
I smiled back, my heart heavy with the weight of everything I knew. "No," I whispered, the lie slipping easily from my lips.
And so it goes.

“where the hell is carrington?” jake is storming around the house with his hands on his hips. he stops outside of carringtons door. he taps his foot before rudely banging on his door. you laugh at the theatrics. johnnie, in the midst of all this chaos, is also frantically looking for his blindfold since his video idea involves one. “do you know where carrington is?” johnnie laughs, “i have not seen him for an hour.” jake rolls his eyes, “we need to get more content out. carrington has five minutes before i decide to film without him.” jake apologizes to you before he storms away from his door, you watch in awe as the two of them start scrambling for all their props.
you hesitate, but give carringtons door three light knocks. you hover closer to the door, desperate to see if he lets you in. “JAKE GO AWAY!” you look around, “it’s not jake…” you bite your lip, swaying awkwardly in front of the door. “oh shit, i’m sorry. come in.” he unlocks his door, twisting it open.
“hey are you feeling okay, car?” his usual smile is an a downward expression, he has tear marks on his face. the sight of him made you feel distraught, determined to get to the bottom of his pain. “what’s wrong? you can talk to me. i promise.” he shrugs, “this is just a lot. having more fans, getting all this hate. it takes a toll on someone.” you frown, giving him a reassuring rub on his back. “and now jake is stressing me out. he keeps putting timelines on the videos we have to film.” you nod understandingly. “it’ll be okay? alright? if you aren’t feeling up to the video i’m sure jake will understand. at the end of the day, he’d rather you be okay; then push yourself too far, yknow?” you words comforted him, but he still felt wrong.
“i owe it to the fans though, i can’t let them down.” you sigh, placing your hand on his knee. “if they’re really your fans they can go a couple days without content. they should be okay with you taking a break, to rest.” in carringtons head he was swimming with doubts. he wanted to believe the fans would be supportive, but he also didn’t want to disappoint anyone. he stood up, mumbling a small thank you. he pulled you into a tight hug, your arms around his neck, his arms around your waist.
“i’ll be there the whole time when filming okay? if you need a break tell me. i’m good at interrupting and delaying the process.” he grins, recalling the numerous times you had interrupted the scene to point out costumers in the back ruining the bit, or the camera being too blurry. you only did it if you felt like it would ruin the video; you tried to avoid interrupting the flow. however, carringtons comfort is more important to you then being perceived as annoying by jake and johnnie. “okay, i’ll try.”
“that’s good! i’m proud of you.” he hugged you once more, leaning down, he placed a kiss on your lips. “you’re so sweet to me.” you shake your head, “car, you deserve so much love.” he smiles softly at you. “now, get ready!! we have a video to film.” he rushes to his closet to change his clothes. you leave the room, giving him time to finish getting ready.
you ran into johnnie, who now had full arms of random props, “what are you going to do with half of this stuff?” you question. he shrugs, “make a good video.” you smile at him. “that’s the goal.” jake comes around the corner with some stuff from his room, intended for the video. “carrington are you filming with us?” jake asked. the door to his room opened, carrington came out with a huge grin on his face, his humor back in tact. “hell yeah i am.” you clap, glad you were able to motivate him. johnnie is happy too, “finally! let’s do it!” jake leads the group to the camera set up, the three of them sit on chairs facing the camera. your eyes linger on carrington the whole time, ensuring he felt safe and comfortable during the filming process.

I spent the entirety of this week reading BatFam comics and it DID NOT help the brainrot go away. I’ll make an extended rambling post about it later, but for now that means it’s time for Robin #2! Have some Red Hood! No, I didn’t read any Red Hood stuff, I just have an order in my head for how I’m drawing these idiots!

Initial traces with half-baked backdrop! Sooooo, Jason has two commonly used costumes, and I think it kinda just depends on the writer which one he gets (someone tell me if there is any rhyme or reason to which one is used). And sometimes they even mix and match like giving him the full helmet, but short sleeves and a vest. I couldn’t decide which one I liked better till I drew them a couple times, so you get both! On the one hand, I really like costume number #2, since it actually HAS a Red Hood and it allows for more expressiveness in his face. But, on the other hand I also really like the long sleeves and the biker jacket look, and it makes more sense practically to wear a full headed helmet.

Make it a chibi! Here, I do any remaining stylization by using my trace as a reference for a free handed drawing. For my style, that means make them chibi and make them precious. I don’t care if he’s an angry murderer, he is also a cute baby because that’s just how I draw. This is also when I really got a feel for what it’s like to draw each costume. By the time I was done, I had made a decision.

Characterization pose! Yup, I went with Biker Red Hood. I’m a real sucker for superhero costumes that are actually just really iconic plainclothes, so a really cool custom bike helmet, cargo pants, and a leather jacket are my vibe! I might still oscillate between the two in future drawings depending on what I need for that specific one, but anything with, like, a continuity will use this Red Hood. Like in the Nightwing post, the Red Hood text is traced.
A quick note about the scars: I know Jason got dumped in the Lazarus pit, but I think even before he accumulated a billion new scars by hanging out in the League of Assassins and then being a mob boss, it probably didn’t have enough time or juice to fix his old injuries. Too much power went to fixing his brain and all the injuries accrued from clawing out of his own grave and then bumming it on the streets of Gotham. I specifically included some head trauma from Crowbar and the Batarang scar from the incident in Under The Red Hood which still haven’t read and probably won’t get to for a while. I am also an advocate for the autopsy scar if I ever draw him with that much chest showing.
Finally, I mentioned in the tags for the last post that I colored Dick a little more brown because he is Romani, and that my Jason and my Damian are also not white. I head-cannon Jason as either half Latino or half Brazilian, and I tried to reflect that here.

Done 1001 times I know I know, but. I am in fact a Halloween lover and witch, and could not responsibly let the holiday pass me by without an obligatory horny post about it. Scenario under the cut
It’s Halloween and A is so stoked and ready. They’ve had the house decorated since the beginning of August (much to B’s frustration), have been marathoning scary movies and cute kids cartoons alike, and have had their costume planned and sorted for weeks. This year is going to be so amazing! It’s the second year in this neighborhood, and last year they’d garnered the reputation for most decorated house and the one with the best candy. They have to live up to it! Cue their partner B, who is nowhere near as immersed or excited, but lovingly goes along with it for A. All the decorating (“It’s AUGUST, A!”), the planning, the movies. They’ll do this for their lover, just to see them happy.
But A woke up two days before Halloween still so exhausted and a little spacey. They’d brushed it off. After all, they can’t be getting sick right?…right? Not before their favorite holiday! No. B had noticed, sensing something wasn’t quite right, but A had brushed it off as a bad night’s sleep so they’d let it go.
The day before Halloween A started an itchy throat and nose, just a bit runny. Nothing they couldn’t (and didn’t) brush off as allergies. “You know I’m allergic to cinnamon! And it’s in everything and everywhere this time of year!” they’d said to B while they were picking up yet another bag of candy to hand out. B had skeptically hummed and let it go, but kept a closer eye on their partner. Something was definitely off with A, but A is allergic to cinnamon and it is everywhere. Maybe they were worried for nothing. Regardless A kept their excitement and happiness about them (even as they felt more and more unwell, though they weren’t about to admit it to anyone, not even themself.)
The big day arrives and A…has definitely come down with a cold. There’s no way to brush this off as allergies. Their nose is so runny and sensitive and itchy, every little breath of air a small torture. It runs and drips constantly, and by the time they make it through their morning shower and get downstairs it’s already a stunning shade of pink. That’s not to mention the properly sore throat, the tickle that’s been bothering them the last two days having blossomed into pain now, nor the dull throb of their sinuses and how full their head feels, or the aches in their body. But it’s Halloween! They can’t be sick! They refuse to be!
So they go about their day with their streaming cold, trying to ignore it and enjoy their favorite holiday. They stifle so many sneezes once they start coming (and boy do they come, harsh fits of two and three at a time), wipe their nose until it’s a glowing red, and stubbornly put their costume on before B is due to show up.
When the doorbell rings, they muster as much energy as they can, desperate to pretend all is well and they definitely haven’t caught a monster of a cold. But it all falls apart when B lays eyes on them. For a second neither speaks, B just takes in their partner. A’s pale skin, bright red nose and dark eye bags, how exhausted they look, the quiet little sniffle and wheeze of their breathing. And then, before A can even attempt to brush off their concern and deny their cold, they sneeze. Rough and scraping and messy. They hadn’t had time to stifle, it just snuck up on them.
“Ah-AHTSHUU! Hih’tschuu! EsheEEW!”
A soupy sniffle follows.
“Oh baby,” B coos, sympathetic and concerned all at once. “I know the saying is “trick or treat”, but you didn’t need to trick yourself with such a nasty cold.” It’s a bad joke, but A smiles a little nonetheless. “Let’s get you inside okay? We can snuggle on the couch and watch your favorite movies.”
“Bud…bud the kids,” A tries to argue, sounding tired and profoundly congested. “I hab to hand out tghe candy.”
“We’ll put out a bowl, just this once. They’ll be fine. And besides, you don’t want to pass this cold to all of them do you?” Slowly, A shakes their head. “Alright then. Bowl of candy and cuddles it is. Now come on sweetheart, you look feverish.”
And even though they’re sick and they can’t celebrate how they want to, A can’t help but grin and snuggle into B’s side as they guide them back indoors. Maybe Halloween won’t be a total lost cause after all.

More Hawkins/Innovations Ball Observations 🔭🎈🧭
+ A Color Theory

I know I’ve already made several posts about this ball, but I have more observations, so I’m going to compile everything here. For the stuff I’ve already made detailed posts about, I’ll just give brief descriptions.
1. Yellow. There’s so much of it here, and in the episode as a whole. Ahead of the part 1 release, I had been thinking a lot about how the color red would be used to signify Colin’s growing love- and it is, particularly in 3x04 (I’ll come back to that)- but in this episode, yellow is used more so, which is even better because it signifies how much Pen, specifically, is haunting Colin (in the romantic way obviously lol). At Stowell House, earlier in the episode, the walls are a very obvious singular yellow tone, and Colin wears a yellow waistcoat. Here at the Innovations Ball, there are a ton of different shades of yellow on the walls, props/furnishings, costumes, and in the lighting.

So, yeah, lots of Polin-coding, but also, like I said, I have a particular theory about color, which I will return to at the end of this post.
2. Colin’s entrance into the ballroom mirrors the infamously unfortunate Beauty and the Beast scene from 2x04. Both scenes have our leads stopped on staircases in front of grandfather clocks (another surprisingly significant motif of the season). I love the comparison of her being lonely because she’s left alone by him in that moment- and by everyone else as usual- to now him being lonely, despite being surrounded by admirers, because he’s being left alone by the one person who truly knows him and would make that difference for him.

3. I think everyone already knows about this parallel by now, but I have to note it because it’s so in line with my other observations- when Colin says his “it is possible to do anything” line, that scene mirrors the “assuredly, fervently, loudly” scene from 1x08. Pen and Colin are both inspiring each other, encouraging each other to be honest about their feelings.

And I feel like that’s not the only moment where the scenes are mirrored. In 1x08, when Colin sees Pen, the crowd parts so he has (and we have) the full view of her, and he makes his way over to her from the center of the floor to the edge. In 3x03, after Colin almost reveals his feelings (similar to how Pen almost revealed her feelings in 1x08), Pen leaves him at the edge of the floor to go to the center with Debling. And the crowd, which had been parted- giving us a view of Colin behind Pen- now rushes in to block that view.

4. Double meanings. They’re everywhere.
a) Again, the “it is possible to do anything” line. He’s delivering it to the admiring debutantes, but we know he’s really speaking to Pen. He’s really talking to her about his feelings for her. Of course, Pen thinks he’s talking to her about Debling. The hits just keep on coming for Colin in this episode.
b) In another interesting turn of events, considering she’s Whistledown and so much of what she’s said and done in the past seasons has been layered with hidden meanings, Pen goes and speaks the plain singular truth about herself and her intentions to Debling (obviously barring the fact that she’s Whistledown). Of course this is very in line with one of her main journeys for the season, which is to accept and reveal herself.
c) Colin attempts to hide the true meaning of his words to Violet when he asks her about love and friendship. Of course, he’s just so god damn transparent, bless his heart. And Violet, very sweetly, goes along with it.
And btw, after she leaves Colin to let him go approach Pen, she watches them the whole time. 💜

d) Unserious but relevant:

Not only are they literally and metaphorically sick, this pregnancy subplot also fits with the whole theme of nature.
e) The Whistledown narration. As per usual, it applies to multiple characters and their storylines. I’m obsessed with how it’s so intentionally layered onto the shots. The sequence is so incredible and so involved. I’m linking the post I made about it here in case anyone hasn’t seen it yet and is curious about what I mean.
5. I could be totally off about this one, but it looks to me like Miss Malhotra’s hair clip is designed like a compass. If it is, that would make sense because it would be on theme for the ball. But what I particularly love about the idea is that it’s also relevant to Polin. Hardcore Polin fans like to say that Pen is Colin’s compass.

6. At the end of this episode, as Colin has officially fallen in love with Pen, we see the beginning of the next episode’s theme color, red.

Which brings me to my final observation, my color theory.
I’ve said this before and I will continue to say it every time I have an insane prediction or theory: I am probably very wrong. But I’ll say it anyway…
It seems to me that each episode has a different signature color. I think 3x02 is green because Pen and Colin are starting to grow and bloom.

3x03 is yellow because, again, Pen is haunting Colin.

3x04 is red because they’re lovesick for each other.

And 3x01 is everything. It’s an explosion of color.

I think that, in many ways, 3x01 is meant to be a preview of the upcoming episodes, highlighting all of the colors. I mean, wouldn’t the presence of a “Four Seasons” ball indicate that everything is there? Everything that you would see in a year? (Or a full season of Bridgerton?) I think it probably tells us which colors will define the part 2 episodes as well, but I won’t venture to guess.
In speaking about Colin’s garden party waistcoat, the associate costume designer, Dougie Hawkes, said that it has hints about future episodes.

I have to wonder if this color thing has something to do with that. I’m also pretty sure that all of the other waistcoats Colin wears in 3x01 are ones he wears again more obviously in the other part 1 episodes. This seems to indicate, for one thing, that the garden party waistcoat is indeed special, but also that there is so much hiding in plain sight in episode 1 that will come back throughout the season. In other words, there’s probably a lot of stuff in part 2 that’s already been hinted at in 3x01…
But I dunno, I’m probably wrong about this.

What spreadsheet app/program do you use to log comics? Asking for recommendations
As I’m only using it for ‘a convenient cell-based table structure’, I keep mine in Google Sheets as it’s easiest to check and update from my phone; but I may have done the design work in Excel or Calc and transferred it over (something I often do).
Design was homebrew, but I looked at a number of different people’s own tracking sheets while I was building mine. Some people prioritise sorting which characters appear in the comics; some people prioritise building a combined timeline; some look at how trades are collected; mine have a focus on ‘what issues were published when’.
This is my main sheet which is has been built and expanded over time for different purposes. It is most useful for checking what I’m reading is lining up and contains a lot of notes on stories, crossovers and things that I might want to look up later. I also have separate post-Crisis reading lists for a number of characters I keep track of for collecting all their appearances. In contrast, this is my New 52 specific sheet that is more focused on when titles start and finish and the pattern of cancellations and new titles being spun up in title churn than on specific issues; that’s because the numbering system is highly predictable.
The most important questions are:
1. Why do you want to track your comics? Is it just ‘I’ve read this’? Is it what titles are out there and which you've read? Is it ticking off a reading list?
2. If you go back to the sheet later what information do you want check about that comic: is it ‘I’ve read this’ or ‘is this part of an event’ or ‘who wrote this’ or ‘when did their costume change’ or ‘who was in this issue’ or ‘was a timeline marker mentioned (weddings, birthdays, ages, school years)’ or it contains specific quotes/panels you like talking about?
3. What is the minimum information you want to record? You cannot expect to write a full review of every issue, so what is the most important thing to know? What is the laziest option that still meets your requirements?
4. How do you organise your reading? Is it a single title at a time? Is a chronological period? Are you following a character reading list? Is it by order of events in the comics or by publication date?
All of these help shape what design you want.

i think it just comes with no longer being a child myself, but i’m finding myself just as intensely interested in the adults around samantha as i am with samantha itself. aunt cornelia is a big one, of course, but during this rewatch of the movie, grandmary really stood out to me.
and, well, let’s just say that when we meet her, grandmary is holding on by a fucking thread. full thoughts under the cut.
i’ll probably make another post about this more specifically, but the movie costumes seem to imply to me that she’s still in mourning at the beginning of the film. i absolutely see much of sam’s stories through the role grief plays in them so this did clue me into paying more attention to grandmary, but honestly whether she’s meant to be formally mourning or not, it’s so clear that she is desperate for normalcy. she keeps grasping for tradition and routine to keep her from slipping too deeply into her grief. i’m sure she struggles with samantha’s presence as a reminder of the daughter she lost, but she also seems to struggle with her because samantha pushes at the boundaries of what is expected and proper. you see that in their first interaction in the movie—grandmary needs her routine and rules so acutely that she can’t even take a moment to listen to samantha talk about meeting nellie until it is Proper Social Hour, tea time.
the thing that really made it apparent to me that grandmary is using her routines to stay afloat is her reaction to gard and cornelia’s engagement. obviously, this is a children’s movie, and as an audience we’re meant to be paying attention to sam’s reaction in the scene, which itself is intense and telling about samantha’s need for stability and her own grief.
but so is grandmary’s. when we cut to her for a moment after gard says he and cornelia are going to get married, she simply doesn’t look like she’s mentally there. by the time it’s her turn to talk, she appears to be holding back tears. so many things are changing so suddenly: there will no longer be the assurance of gard’s visits or of his absolute devotion to her and samantha. i’m also willing to bet that she can’t help thinking about the fact that the last time one of her children got married, they died relatively soon afterwards.
and then there’s cornelia herself. we know that grandmary will come around to her views, but right now, she poses a threat to grandmary’s understanding of her place in the world. and that’s too much for grandmary. everything is changing and, if she thinks too much about it, she doesn’t know how she is going to manage.
so, in this intense moment where she is about to be drawn in by her grief, she falls back on her (seemingly only) coping skill: social expectations. she’s upset, but she’s a lady, and a lady is always polite. she congratulates gard and cornelia, and then she turns to samantha. samantha, who is so clearly feeling upset in the same ways that she is, but grandmary cannot acknowledge samantha’s feelings or else she’d have to face her own.
so she nods at samantha, a gentle encouragement of what she must say, and samantha says it. i honestly don’t know what grandmary would’ve done if samantha had acted out, but that doesn’t happen. samantha falls into line and says the right thing, and grandmary can go back to pretending that everything is under control.
except, it isn’t. things have changed, and there simply no going back to the way it was. somewhere between this moment and samantha leaving for nyc, something clearly starts to shift for grandmary. whether it’s cornelia, whether it’s seeing the boathouse, whether it’s simply having to realize that she cannot keep things the same forever, grandmary is forced to face herself and the way she is letting grief rule her life. as an audience, we do not get to see this transformation, but the grandmary we meet at the end of the movie is a very different person than who we met at the beginning. for one thing, she’s actually wearing colors, but she’s also finally accepted that proposal. in this, we see her starting to discard some of the rules she was clinging to at the beginning of the movie. as one example, i’m fairly convinced that the grandmary we met at the start of the movie never would’ve stood up for samantha to her teacher about her speech in such a manner, but she does. things are changing, and grandmary is learning that she is still going to have a life where she is cared for and seen even if she has to change from the person she once believed herself to be.
and i think we really see this transformation when it comes to nellie and her sisters. before, it was never like she was cruel towards them, but the boathouse scene where she tries to stand up for nellie is still so loaded with classism. nellie may be important to her granddaughter, but nellie is irish, nellie is a servant, and therefore she still needs to know her place.
and there’s simply none of that sentiment by the time christmas rolls around. someone else has commented on how good the o’malley girls are for grandmary, and you can truly see it here. she is getting to be a grandmother again, and she is in her element. grandmary is finally letting herself exist a little outside of the rules she has always been constrained by, and it is so delightful to see her truly start to live.
like i said at the start of this post, grief is so important to me in understanding these stories. grandmary gets her love from the fandom, but i feel like it’s not acknowledged enough how much she’s going through and how wonderful it is to see her work through her grief and come out the other side. i’m so glad that the movie picks up on this character arc, and that mia farrow really brings her all to the role.
and then american girl had the audacity to put her through the events of the titanic book but we simply do not have time to get angry about that again

The Harrington Pattern Part 4
I know I said I was going to wait on posting this one, but it's got the most backlogged chapters so I figured I can at least put out this one for you.
It's extra long, like amount 1000 words longer than my usual. But I didn't want to stop half way through a specific section.
An elf gets his ears, Robin freaks out a bit, and everyone gets a little called out about their pre-conceived notions, but especially Mike.

The day had arrived and Claudia had offered to help get them all there, as Eddie’s van was full and Robin still didn’t have her license. She was in driver’s ed right now, thankfully. Her parents didn’t want her going to college without knowing how.
So Dustin, Will, El, and Mike went with Claudia and Robin, Max, and Lucas went with Steve.
Dustin had wanted to go with Steve, but it didn’t make sense as his mom was the other driver. So he pouted all the way to pick up his friends, but by the time Claudia had picked up Mike Dustin was vibrating in the front seat.
Lucas was picked up last.
He still didn’t have his ears so he looked crestfallen when he answered the door. He was wearing the pirate outfit he had told Steve he had.
“He’s being a piss baby,” Erica muttered. “Something about ears.”
“Erica Jean!” Mrs. Sinclair hissed. “We do not talk about your brother that way.”
Erica crossed her arms and pouted.
“Actually, Mrs. Sinclair,” Steve said with a smile. “I have a solution, but I’m going to need your help.”
Both Lucas and Erica perked up at that. Steve patted his pocket with a wink.
“Of course!” Mrs. Sinclair beamed. “I told you Steve and Eddie were going to come through for you, didn’t I?”
Lucas blushed. “Yes, Mom.”
“Where do we need to be, Steve?” she asked.
“The bathroom would be the best place.”
She nodded and led the way, Lucas in the middle and Steve bringing up the rear.
Steve sat Lucas on the toilet seat and pulled out the thin box Eddie had given him. He opened it up so Mrs. Sinclair could see it first.
“Ooh!” she cooed. “I know just what we need. I’ll be right back.”
Steve turned around so Lucas could see them.
Lucas gasped. “Holy shit! What are they made of?”
“Silicone.”
“Do we need anything to affix the ears, Steve?” Mrs. Sinclair asked from her bedroom. “I have makeup glue if we need.”
“That’s fine, Mrs. Sinclair,” Steve called back. “I have spirit gum.”
She peaked around the corner. “Oh that’s even better!” She had her makeup bag in her hands.
“Actually Lucas,” Steve said eyeing the makeup bag. “Go change into your costume. I don’t want to smear makeup on your costume or accidentally knock off one of the ears and have to start all over.”
Lucas leapt to his feet and dashed out of the room.
“It was really nice of you to do all this for him,” Mrs. Sinclair told Steve in the wake of her son’s cartoon speed cloud. “It’s really made him feel special. To stand out in a way that feels good for a change.”
Steve smiled back at her. “He’s a good kid. It was great that I got to do something nice for him.”
Lucas came back a few minutes later, a blanket covering his costume. When his mom and Steve raised an eyebrow at him he blushed.
“I was worried about the makeup getting on the costume,” he admitted shyly.
Steve patted his shoulder. “I would have put a towel over it. A mom approved towel. I don’t think she’s going to approve that blanket.”
“Absolutely not!” She took off the blanket and handed them a ratty old towel to drape over Lucas’s shoulders.
“Thanks Mrs. S.,” Steve murmured and got to work. He applied the ears and then swapped with Mrs. Sinclair.
She applied makeup to the silicone to blend them to Lucas’s ears.
“All done!” she said triumphantly.
Steve whipped off the towel and pulled Lucas to his feet. He closed the door so that they could use the full length mirror that was on the back. He put his hands over Lucas’s eyes and gently steered him toward the door.
“You ready?” he asked softly.
“Yeah,” Lucas croaked.
Steve uncovered his eyes.
Lucas stared in the mirror for a moment or two.
“Baby?” Mrs. Sinclair asked. “Do you like it?”
Tears streamed down his face as he nodded. “I’m an elf, Mom...”
She hugged him tightly. “Yes you are, sweetie. And the best looking elf at the fair, no doubt.”
He nodded and then wiped his tears.
“How did you do this?” he asked Steve.
Steve smiled. “Jeff makes them.”
Lucas’s jaw dropped. “Oh.”
Mrs. Sinclair cocked her head to the side. “Who’s Jeff?”
“Mom!” Lucas hissed. “I like talk about him all the time! He’s the other black member of Hellfire!”
“Ah,” she said with a smile. “You talk about so many of those boys, I get them mixed up sometimes. But I’m happy he was able to help my baby out.”
Lucas rushed out to show the girls who gasped and oohed over Lucas’s outfit.
“How much did you have to pay for those, Steve?” she asked gently. “They can’t have been cheap.”
Steve shook his head. “Jeff did them for free because he knew what it was like to be told no just because of the color of his skin. So don’t worry about it, okay?”
She nodded and the two of them wandered out into the front room.
“Steve!!” Erica screeched. “I didn’t know you could sew like this!” She waved at Lucas. “What the hell?”
Steve threw back his head and laughed. “You could have come, and maybe would have gotten a cool outfit too. Too late now.”
Erica gasped, wide-eyed that Steve would call her out like this.
Mrs. Sinclair patted her daughter on the head. “You’re the one that wanted to sleep over at Tina’s this weekend, sweetie. Maybe next year.”
Erica couldn’t deny her mother’s logic and was forced to concede. “Fine, but just know I’m going to be grumpy about it.”
Mrs. Sinclair kissed the top of her daughter’s head. “I know, dear.”
“Come on,” Max said, “we’ve admired Lucas long enough, I want to go to this fair, please.”
Lucas and Steve shared a glance. “Uh-oh. She said please, we better go before she gets really mad.”
Max rolled her eyes. “Fuck off.”
Mrs. Sinclair bit her lip as she struggled not to tell the girl off for her language.
Max and Lucas piled into the backseat while Robin and Steve slid upfront.

The closer they got to the where the Renaissance Fair was being held, the more nervous Robin got.
“Steve?” she questioned. “Why are we heading to the burned down mall?”
Steve grinned. “We aren’t.”
Robin bit her lip. “No,” she mumbled. “I rode my bike on this road every day to get to work. This is the way to Starcourt.”
Lucas and Max leaned forward to see the road ahead of them.
“I think she’s right,” Max concluded. “This is the way to Starcourt.”
They pulled into the makeshift parking lot of the fair. It was pretty much a dust field with people in medieval getups directing traffic.
Steve pulled in where he was directed and they all piled out of the Bimmer.
They stood looking out at the field where Starcourt once stood, but was now a bustling center of outdoor activity.
“What the hell?” Robin gasped. “Where is the mall?”
Steve grinned. “This piece of land was always used for passing carnivals and the Renaissance Fair every year. When the mayor sold it to the Russians to build the mall it put a stop to a lot of summer activities the town once enjoyed. So after the earthquake they bulldozed the area and put back the way it was.”
“What did they do with the underground bunker?” Max asked, vaguely interested.
Steve scratched his cheek. “Filled it with uh, cement.”
Lucas and Max shared an appreciative glance and even Robin nodded.
Steve was the first to spot the rest of their group. Dustin, Mike, Will and El were waiting in neat little cluster for them.
Lucas tugged on the hem of his gambeson and ducked his head. Max looked over at him and rolled her eyes.
“They aren’t going to care,” she hissed.
Steve glared at her. “There has been evidence to the contrary regarding this very thing, so zip it.” He mimed zipping his mouth closed.
Max stared at him wide-eyed in shock. Robin tugged on her sleeve.
“Come on,” she told the younger girl. “Let’s got meet up with the others.”
Max huffed but did as she was told without protest.
Steve put his hands on Lucas’s shoulders and looked him in the eye. “Look, I don’t know how you feel. I can never know how you feel, but let me tell you something that those buttheads will probably never understand because they aren’t like you and me.”
Lucas nodded.
“Being a ‘nerd’ as they call it is not the be all end all of existence,” Steve said. “You can have interests outside of theirs. I know they gave you shit for joining the basketball team, but you are a good player, maybe even a great one if you keep at it. You won’t have the same experiences that they will and that’s okay.”
“But what if we stop being friends?” Lucas asked, his voice breaking.
“It’s going to suck for awhile,” Steve confirmed. “It won’t be easy and it will hurt sometimes when you least expect it, but you’ll make new friends with your same interests as long as you continue to be you.”
Lucas took in a deep breath and let out slow. “You’re friends were assholes though.”
Steve laughed. “And Mike isn’t?”
A small sunny smile peeked out from under Lucas’s cloud of worry. “Yeah, all right.”
They started walking toward the group with Steve’s arm slung over Lucas’s shoulder.
“Take a deep breath,” Steve told him as they got close. “And know I will kick his ass if he says anything.”
Lucas huffed out a laugh. “Thanks, Steve.”
They reached the crowd of their friends and waited for their reaction.
“Holy shit!” Will said. “That is an epic costume!”
And then Lucas fully reached the group and ears could be seen.
“What are you supposed to be?” Mike asked with a sneer. “There aren’t any black characters with pointy ears.”
Dustin scoffed. “He could be a Vulcan. There was a black Vulcan in ‘Search for Spock’!”
“That movie was so bad, dude,” Mike huffed. “It doesn’t count.”
“It totally counts,” Dustin protested. “It’s considered canon, therefore it counts.”
“I’m not a Vulcan,” Lucas said proudly, sticking out his chest, “I’m an elf ranger.”
“Are you a Drow then?” Mike asked. “You do know Drows are evil right?”
Dustin and Will’s jaws drop in shock and outrage.
“Dude!” Will hissed. “His skin isn’t literally black!”
Steve leaned over to the girls. “Does anyone know what a draw or whatever is?”
Lucas turned to Steve. “It’s a race of elves that live in the underdark, deep below where even the dwarves dare to delve. They’re straight up evil and very matriarchal.”
“Well that’s sexist,” Robin said putting her hands on her hips.
Mike rolled his eyes turned back to Lucas. “Well you can’t be Silvain elf, because they’re pale skinned and beautiful.”
“I’m a wood elf,” Lucas said, “my skin matches the woods around me, so I can blend in easier.”
Mike crossed his arms. “Show me one other dark skinned elf that isn’t you and maybe I’ll allow it.”
Just then a large van pulled up to the entrance in a skid, blaring metal music.
The four men got out and everyone was looking at them in stunned silence.
Eddie was dressed as a minstrel, wine dark puffy sleeves and leggings with a black tunic and boots. Gareth was a magic user in long, flowing purple robes that stopped two inches from the ground and beautifully carved wizard’s rod with a deep purple crystal in its grasp. Brian was a fighter with a metal sword at his hip and dressed in actual leather armor. Then the Party saw Jeff. He was dressed all in black with tight leggings, a short tunic and a black silk shirt that was covered by a short cloak. He had two silver daggers tucked into the tops of his thigh high boots.
He dropped the hood on his cloak to reveal that yes, Mike, he too had elf ears.
Jeff spotted Lucas and threw out his arms. “My kinsman! I greet you!”
Lucas turned and bowed low and Steve was forced to turn away to hide the smile at Mike’s stunned expression.
“Lord Kelnic,” Lucas greeted. “I understand these were a gift from you?” He rubbed the tip of one of the ears.
Jeff ran up to him. “Dude! How did you get them to match so well? I’ve tried every kind of glue to make them look like actual ears.”
Lucas blushed. “My mom used her makeup kit to blend the two.”
Jeff turned to the rest of Corroded Coffin. “And why didn’t we think of that?”
Gareth and Brian just shrugged.
Eddie on the other hand looked sheepish. “Because I thought makeup was just for girls?”
Jeff rolled his eyes and turned back to Lucas. “I’ll borrow my sister’s makeup for tomorrow. Can’t have shoddy looking ears next to my ranger kinsman.”
Lucas laughed.
Brian nudged Gareth in the ribs. “What’s Mike’s problem?”
Corroded Coffin all turned as one to see that Mike was standing there between El and Will looking like a rug had been pulled out from under him.
El patted Mike on the shoulder. “My mom says that people who judge someone by anything other than the content of their character are either too young to know better, or are immature. Grow better.”
She turned and started for the line that would grant them entrance to the Fair.
Lucas looked over at Steve and the two of them tried not to laugh at the absolute gobsmacked expression on Mike’s face.
“I’m not being racist!” he huffed and crossed his arms. “I’m not!” He looked around at all his friends, but none of them looked even remotely like they agreed with him. “He’s black so he should be black characters!”
Brian reared his head back. “Dude, how is that not racist?”
Mike looked around again panicked. “It just isn’t!”
Jeff walked up to him and looked him straight in the eye. A feat that was a little hard for most of his friends these days with how tall he’d gotten.
“There’s this thing, Mike,” he said, his voice low and menacing, “called casual racism. It’s where all your upbringing and prejudices come out in casual ways instead of saying things like nigger and that blacks should be separate from whites. It’s oh he can’t play that character, the character is white. He can’t be an elf, elves are white. That’s casual racism and you better check it before it ruins a damn good friendship.”
Jeff stared him down until Mike was nodding his agreement. He turned to Will and Dustin.
“I wasn’t here at the start of this conversation,” he said, “but you two need to be better at calling out Mike’s bullshit. Because a few years on, he should be better not worse.”
Dustin and Will gave confused glances at each other.
Jeff scoffed. “Lucas told me all about the lovely little Ghostbusters incident. He straight up told you he wasn’t going to be Winston, but Mike here assumed he wasn’t going to be anyway because he’s black. So the fact that here we are and he’s still being a racist asshole?”
“We do call him out,” Will said. “And I wasn’t here for almost a year, I don’t know what happened in that year, but yeah he got worse.”
Dustin shrugged. “I don’t know either, man. Don’t look at me.”
Steve stepped forward. “I think you do know, Dustin and I was really disappointed when I heard about it.”
Dustin looked up at him in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“After all, what’s a little casual racism when Lucas ‘betrayed’ you by joining the basketball team?” Steve said, crossing his arms over his chest.
The older members of The Hellfire Club looked chastised. Because they had all given Lucas shit for that.
“You still have time to course correct,” Steve said. “But make no mistake, any kind of bullying, is still bullying. Whether it’s about the color of their skin, the games they play, or the type of school subject they like.”
He pointed at Robin. “Band and orchestra is still people getting together and playing instruments like a metal band.” Eddie winced hard and shoved a lock of his hair in front of his face.
“Playing a sport is no different than DnD, planning, keeping track of stats, and working together are hallmarks of both.” Dustin and Mike shared a grimace and even Gareth and Brian looked uncomfortable.
“Being a genius at math or science doesn’t make you better than someone who is a genius at history or literature.”
To which everyone but Robin and Max looked at their feet. Because they had all made that mistake with Steve before this all started.
“I think we will all need to unpack some pretty garbage baggage,” Steve concluded. “But!”
All the heads shot up.
“We are here for a good time,” Steve said holding up his hand, “and as long as Mike apologizes to Jeff and Lucas I think we can move past this and enjoy ourselves today. Agreed?”
Everyone murmured their agreement, punctuated with nods. Mike looked down at his feet and kicked at a pebble.
“I’m sorry,” he muttered. “I wasn’t trying to be racist. I’ll try to be better.”
Steve looked over at Jeff and Lucas and they both gave him a thumbs up.
“Great!” Steve said cheerfully. “Now let’s get this show on the road!”
“Dirt path maybe,” Robin grumbled. “It’s like an old western out here. I swear to god Steve if I see a tumbleweed I am out of here.”
Steve laughed as they all met El in line.
Now that the heavy stuff was out of the way, it was time for some good fun.

Since it’s Halloween, my favorite holiday, I’m giving you a little treat (not a trick!). This is a modern Arthur fic that I finished forever ago and will probably post someday if you want to see the full thing. Anyway here is a spicy little scene from it that takes place on Halloween night in reader’s office at the library when they’re the only two left in the building 😉

“Hello?” a man’s voice rang out, and you nearly jumped out of your skin before realizing it was Arthur.
You checked yourself in the mirror one more time before leaving the bathroom, grinning like crazy as you went out to meet him. He had wandered toward the back office and had his back to you, and as excited as you were to show off your costume to him, you took a beat to admire him from behind, your eyes raking down his back. Lower. He must have been dressed as a cowboy with the black hat he wore and the boots and spurs, but your eyes were too busy with the wranglers he wore, how perfectly they fit his ass.
He whirled on you. “Jesus, don’t sneak up on a…man.” He cleared his throat, his eyes scaling your body as yours had done to him. “On Halloween.”
“What do you think?” you asked, posing, batting your eyes.
“You’re- it’s…uh,” he mumbled, his voice low enough for you to know exactly what he thought. “Shit, I need to come see you here more often.”
You laughed, the sound echoing through the tall building. “Don’t get used to it, cowboy,” you said with a wink at his costume. “It’s not the regular uniform, I’m afraid. Come on, come see my desk.” You took his hand and led him into the back office crammed with two desks, yours and your coworker’s.
“It’s not much,” you admitted, picking your bag up off the floor, stuffing your clothes from earlier into it. “But it-”
You felt Arthur’s hands tug on your hips, making you forget all thought as he pulled you into him. He was hard beneath those jeans, his arousal pushing against you.
“They got cameras in here?” he whispered, his voice rough in your ear. You felt your knees go weak.
“No, not cameras, but…” You pointed at the two windows, at their lack of blinds.
He let out a solitary chuckle before you felt him move, the pressure of him behind you gone. You turned to see what he had in mind, your thoughts reeling with your own feelings on the matter, when he hit the light switch. It plunged you both into darkness as he shut the door, the only light remaining the moonlight streaming in through the windows, how it reflected in his hungry eyes.
He stalked back over like a wolf, his gaze never leaving your body. “Can’t be dressing like that in front of me, darlin’.”
It took everything in you to speak as he pinned you down with that stare. “Or what?”
He didn’t respond, closing the gap between you and kissing you greedily, hungrily, his hands roaming everywhere they could find skin.
In seconds, he parted from you and stepped around you, pushing back books and stacks of paper and whatever else he could before he lifted you, setting you down on the desk. Then his lips were on yours again as his body pushed against you, forcing your legs around his waist. You gladly let him, wrapping your legs around him so you could feel his hardness again, the lack of space between you making you needy.
His hands found your vest, its buttons, as he began to undo them with a fervor that would tear them all off if he wasn’t careful.
“Easy,” you said into his mouth, on his tongue.
This only seemed to spur him on, as his hands worked faster, his mouth briefly leaving yours so he could see what he was doing. “Too many goddamn buttons,” he mumbled before he finally pulled the last free and ripped the vest from your shoulders. Your shirt followed soon after, and his hands kneaded against your bra as he kissed you again, wound tight as a coil.
You plucked the hat from his head and dropped it on yours, noting that it didn’t feel light enough to be made from cheap foam like most costume hats were. It was leather. It was real.
He continued to kiss you as best as he could with what little focus he had as he he hiked your skirt up your thighs. You fumbled with the button on his pants, needing him so badly it hurt. He yanked your underwear down just as you got his jeans undone, just as you pushed them and his boxers down enough to free his cock. He was hard as steel in your hand, but he didn’t give you a second to pleasure him before he leaned over you, lining himself up with you.
You leaned back and caught yourself with your hands, papers crushing beneath your grip. He pushed into you without restraint, making you moan into his mouth. He split you wide before he seated himself fully, starting a pace so brutal and full of desire he would tear you apart with it. He was sinfully long, something that pleasantly surprised you every time, but this was different. This was harsh, unbridled need. And as he rocked his hips into you, you had to fight the need to cry out at how deep he drove, how painfully good it felt.
His kiss got sloppy, so you broke it. “You got a thing for librarians then?” you teased. He didn’t respond, buried beneath his pleasure. You loved watching him let go of his restraint for once, taking instead of giving. It turned you on so bad that you were suddenly willing to forfeit any pleasure of your own just to watch him come apart.
You smiled as you thought of what to say to drive him over the edge. “You like fucking me over my desk, Arthur?” you asked lowly, right into his ear. He grunted and pulled your hips impossibly closer, his pace speeding up and pounding into you so hard you moaned for him.
“Saw this little outfit and couldn’t take it?” you muttered. “Had to be inside me so bad you couldn’t wait, had to take me right here?”
His pace faltered, just barely. “Fuck,” he mumbled, his voice so shot through with pleasure you felt yourself tighten around him.
With this he leaned you back. He lowered you onto the desk before he straightened, setting a brutal pace and an even more brutal angle that had your mouth open wide with pleasure. He gripped your hips so hard it hurt and slammed into you, and as close as you could tell the man was, you were suddenly fighting back your own high, wanting this to be about him. But you couldn’t help it—he was hitting a spot so perfectly deep within you that you would be reaching your end in seconds.
“Arthur,” you whined, reaching for him, clinging to his arms. His breathing grew labored and rattled through him with that word, and when you were close enough to be straining every muscle in your body, you felt his thumb come down on your clit. You cried out from the sharp pressure and came, clenching down on him as he fucked you through it.
Within seconds, he lost it, coming inside of you with a deep groan of his own. You could only lay there and attempt to breathe—think—again, watching him. He was so goddamn attractive like that, prone and spent. All yours.
His chest heaved with each breath, and he finally met your eyes, smirking when he saw his hat on your head. He leaned over you and kissed you sweetly, lifting you back up as he pulled out of you.
