I know I just got done with ranting about tfp/rid2015 starscream’s character but, if you couldn’t tell by my other rid2015 posts, I’m obsessed with rid2015 bumblebee and when I tell you I love this scene of bumblebee making fun of starscream I’m not exaggerating it’s so cathartic to me

“But bumblebee is a good/hero character, why is he being so mean—” did you forget how much starscream hurt bumblebee in tfp?

He killed cliffjumper who, while probably not as close to bee as he was to arcee, was still close friends with bee

He stole the omega keys from the autobots’ base and handed them over to megatron, practically dooming Cybertron at the time to be remade in megatron’s image — of course the autobots get them back last minute, but that doesn’t change how much that loss effected all of them (evidence: optimus shouting in anger for the first and to my memory only time in the series) — including bumblebee

And his greatest offense towards bumblebee in my opinion—

DESTROYING BUMBLEBEE’S T-COG

It’s also incredibly fucked once you think about it more because the t-cog is literally a cybertronian organ — while silas is at least mostly detached from how screwed this is since it’s more like taking parts from a robot than surgery to humans, starscream shouldn’t be since he’s also a cybertronian

Instead of being freaked out and recognizing how messed up silas’ actions are like any rational bot would, he helps silas make his fake-bot-that’s-using-another-bot’s-stolen-organ work by providing him with energon (the [at the time] incredibly scarce resource that helps all bots survive) and — after that plan falls through because of bumblebee finding them — he destroys the bot’s organ for no reason other than he wanted to escape and thought that was a good way to distract him

I just—I’m sorry?? I feel like bumblebee is incredibly justified for clowning on this cringefailure of a bot for what he’s done to him

And this isn’t even mentioning what he’s done against the autobots as a whole (both on and off screen) that has probably hurt bumblebee by proxy

I feel like it’d be justified if bee also killed starscream — he already got to kill the bot that destroyed his voice box, I think bee deserves another murder as a treat <3

This is such a nonissue but I realized the other day the reason I keep going 🤨🤨🤨 at YouTube videos in their intros when they’re like “grab a snack, get a drink, get cozy-“ like that’s a nice thing to say and all. I think it just. Feels Formulaic. Like I hear it so often from so many different videos and people that it feels disingenuous to meeeee. Like idk im probs reading into it too much but it’s just at a point where it feels like they’re just saying buzzwords at me. Saying the popular phrases that everyone else is saying for Good YouTube Formula. I feel like I’m being sold something when literally all they’re saying is get a snack lol. Usually I already have a snack and then I feel kind of mad about it LOL. like it’s so not a big deal. Just makes me wonder if they are in fact doing it on purpose as part of YouTube Homogenous Activity like how thumbnails within certain genres and niches will kinda all start to follow a formula for engagement and all that. Maybe they’re trying to find the cheat code words to make themselves seem more personable so we will subscribe. I’m not saying it’s a nefarious devious plot when people tell me to get a snack or anything lol I’m just. Thinking.

And also! I get Mildly Annoyed when as part of their intro to the vid they’re like “remember to like and subscribe and hit the bell if you like videos like this and want to see more-“ like bro it’s the start of the video. I haven’t Seen It yet. I don’t know if I like it or if I want to see more. You have to earn that with the video part. If ur gonna plug ur channel do it at the end when you’ve won me over with the VIDEO I came to WATCH!!!

i am so tired of female characters being inherently written as ‘terrifying’ or ‘scary’ w no respect to their characterisation.

for one, it feels so fake. i know so many women irl (i am one!!!) and there are very few, of any, that i would categorise as ‘scary as is’. heck, even if we go by tempers—the numbers just don’t match.

but somehow in fics, every single woman is a terrifying force of nature bc that’s…somehow…the only way we can think of women? idk?

and also just, it’s such a two dimensional characterisation that i only see w the female characters. all men aren’t angry and hex-happy and scary all the time. they’re affable, chill, respond to situations thoughtfully instead of always resorting to violence.

i think it also bothers me bc the anger thing flows neatly into the v gendered carefree man child/stuck up fun sponge stereotypes that so many relationships are forced into. it’s just an icky dynamic all around.

and lastly,,,i don’t think it’s even normal for a character to be latently terrifying everyone all the time??? unless it’s a specific quirk of theirs??? like women aren’t dementors bro chill tf out

I told my mam yesterday that I have a job interview on Monday, and today she’s acting like she had no idea which is fine cos I don’t actually expect her to listen to me, but when I said I already told you this she said “alright stroppy!” so I said I’m not being stroppy but I already told you I had one and she got really angry and was like well you’ll have to take the bus you can’t have a lift everywhere, let me tell you ONCE in a blue moon do I ask if they’ll take me somewhere cos mind you she can’t actually drive, but I hate asking because then it gets chucked back in my face. So I said no mam, I wasn’t stroppy, but the way you’re talking to me now and assuming I was in a bad mood because I said “I told you yesterday” has in fact put me in a bad mood. I hate asking her for a favour because she acts like a martyr every time but I WASNT even asking for a favour! And even more, in the last two months she’s had more than £500 off of me that she promised to give back but just hasn’t, so surely she should like that I’m going to a job interview so she can have more money off of me

The fact that we’re even at this point is a miracle in itself and needing every character to explicitly say their orientation and/or gender identity shows how ignorant you are, not just regarding media literacy, but also on queer history

By your myopic lens you’re discrediting a lot of queer characters that didn’t and/or couldn’t outright say that they’re queer

Characters shouldn’t have to outright say their orientation and/or gender identity for you to consider them “good rep”

That perspective is ridiculously narrow minded and downplays the importance of previous queer characters that helped pave the way to where we are now
