Top Surgery Journal

I figured it was time to share my top surgery experiences, so folks can potentially learn from them! I'll be updating this as I have more to add.

For context, I am in the U.S. (specifically Washington state), and a legal adult. A lot of my process may not apply to everyone.

Getting Coverage

The first step to scheduling top surgery is getting insurance coverage for it. Talk to your insurance first to figure out if they do cover top surgery, and what you need to do in order to obtain coverage. Oftentimes it won't be listed officially on your plan, but you can get coverage as long as you can prove you need it.

I was lucky enough to have good insurance with trans healthcare included, so all I needed was a letter from my PCP, and a letter from a behavioral health counselor specializing in gender dysphoria. I didn't need any diagnoses, any specific length of time on HRT, any particular presentation, etc.

(If you live in Washington, state law requires that top surgery be fully covered under Medicare. It might be worth it to check your state's laws as well!)

Referrals

I tried to schedule with a surgeon myself, thinking it was my responsibility to get the documents sent over and everything, but my PCP actually referred me when I first told her I had gotten coverage from my insurance.

I ended up going with that referral because the other surgeon was so hard to get ahold of, but my PCP did also send a referral to the surgeon I'd chosen before. I recommend going through your PCP for referrals first, as it takes a lot of the workload off of you- and they'll likely write a referral anyway when sending the documents needed for coverage over.

You may also find that the surgeon you talk to has different requirements than your insurance before performing top surgery. A referral from your PCP might bypass these requirements, but be sure to call them yourself and double-check. Your surgeon's office is supposed to call you to schedule a consultation, and they may not call you at all if you don't have all of those documents in- which means you can be left in limbo indefinitely, not knowing you need to send them more than you already did.

The Consultation

I was able to get a consultation about 5 weeks after calling, which was great! The consultation is your opportunity to ask the surgeon any questions you have, for them to evaluate your chest and what methods might work for you, and for you to see their results (most surgeons do not post result photos online for privacy reasons).

Come into the consultation with all the questions you have written down somewhere, so you don't forget. I asked:

If I could see photographs of his top surgery results

Which incisions he thought would work for me, stressing the things that were important to me: minimal recovery time, no free nipple grafts (I wanted to keep mine, but without risking a failed graft), and minimal chance of needing revisions

What my recovery would look like for the recommended incisions

Whether I will be getting drains (ideally, yes: drains reduce recovery time and the risk of needing revisions)

If he's had patients who have had complications (failed grafts, infections, need for revisions, etc.) and what he's done to reduce the chances of that happening again

My surgeon's results looked good (scars were even and symmetrical, healed nicely, etc.) and he answered my questions really well, so I was happy to go with him!

He recommended the fishmouth method for me, because recovery time would be minimal, there would be no need for nipple grafts, and my chest was small enough for it to work really well.

Scheduling the Surgery

My surgeon didn't have a very long waitlist, but it still took about 3 weeks for the clinic to process my request with my insurance (yes, even though I already had coverage). Once they'd processed that, they called me with a window of time I could schedule within; after a few months, insurance would no longer cover the surgery.

I got an extension, as I was working an intense summer job that I couldn't really take a few weeks off of to recover, then scheduled my surgery over the phone. They asked if I wanted a pre-op appointment, and I declined, as it'd mostly be information covered in the consultation or that could be given to me over the phone.

Preparing for Surgery

I wasn't given a check-in time for the hospital until about 2pm the day before, but they finally did call me and give me some instructions, including:

My check-in time and place

The hospital's phone number, to give to my ride/caretaker in case they had questions

That I was not to bring visitors (cause covid)

To bring my ID, insurance card, and credit card

That I was not to eat or drink anything after 12am that night (I did drink a bit of water with my meds, which they seemed fine with)

To shower with antibacterial soap the night before, and the morning of the surgery

Not to wear hair or skin products like deoderant or gel

Not to wear any jewelry, or anything else removable that wasn't just a clothing item.

When I checked into the hospital, they had my fill out some paperwork including the name and number of my ride and caretaker (which could be the same or separate people; they called the ride number when it was time to pick me up, and the caretaker number with detailed updates on my progress). Then they had me change into the hospital gown and answer some medical history questions, prepped me with an IV, and had a nurse, both anesthesiologists involved in my surgery, and my surgeon check in with me for more information and to answer any last questions I had.

I was told to use the bathroom about 20 minutes before I would be going under for my surgery (to avoid needing a catheter), and once I did, they injected some anesthetic into my IV and I passed the fuck out.

After Surgery

I showed up to the hospital at about 9am, and the prepping ended around 11am. The surgery was scheduled to end at 2pm; I wasn't conscious until about 3pm.

They had me use the restroom again (I passed out on the floor of the bathroom because it was way too soon, lmao), and I was in and out of sleep until I finally used the bathroom on my own at about 5pm. At that point I was a lot more lucid; I had some toast and pudding, and the nurse called my caretaker to go over post-op instructions with us both.

After that I dressed myself, was wheeled out to pick up my pain meds at the in-hospital pharmacy, then hopped in the car with my ride (the wonderful @lillia-pad) at about 5:30pm.

Recovery

I have a pretty high tolerance for anesthetic, so I was mostly just tired during the 36-ish hours the anesthetic continued to wear off. I didn't experience any nausea or lightheadedness either, but I was given an anti-nausea patch behind my left ear, plus some anti-nausea meds, just in case.

My post-op regimen sort of looks like this:

Take 1-2 tablets of oxycodone every 4 hours (for pain)

Take 2 tablets of laxative meds twice a day (cause pain meds cause constipation)

Empty drains twice per day, and record how much was in them

Get up and walk around every couple of hours to reduce the risk of blood clots

Ease into eating again: start with clear fluids, and work up to crackers/bread/etc., to avoid nausea and vomiting.

Lay down propped up on plenty of pillows, and only on your back (no side-sleeping!)

Keep the compression binder/gauze on for the first 48 hours, then remove them to shower as needed (but put them back on after!)

I was pretty lucid by the third day post-surgery, and was able to scale my pain meds down pretty quickly from 2 tabs on the first day, to 1 tab for the next two days, to 1/2 tab. Meds are much more important at night, when there's nothing to distract you from the pain- don't be afraid to ration them for nighttime.

Oxycodone also definitely causes drowsiness, so I took a lot of "oxy naps" about 45-60 minutes after I took my meds, which last between 20 minutes and 2 hours depending on how tired I am.

I have my post-op this week, so I will update this post with more details on my scars and healing then!

Let’s talk about Hospital Playlist. (KDRAMA REVIEW)

note: does contain spoilers

When people ask me what is my favorite Korean drama of all time, with no doubt, IT’S HOSPITAL PLAYLIST. This drama has the comic relief, the emotional scenes, realistic characters-just to name a few. No toxic relationships and petty revenge fights. Nothing else will stop me for saying that this is the ultimate feel good drama.

SYNOPSIS: The drama shows insights into the daily lives of doctors and nurses working at Yulje Medical Hospital. It focuses on 5 doctors who have been friends since medical school, who also play together as a band.

This drama encompasses so many elements and characters so bear with me yo this might be real long

Hospital Playlist is produced/written by the Shin-Lee PD and writer pairing, whose previous works were the renowned Reply trilogy and Prison Playbook (which are *chef’s kiss*) I really like that all their dramas really highlight humanism, and puts emphasis on creating a heartwarming and realistic series. There isn’t always a major conflict to be resolved, but instead it showcases how different people-in this case mostly those in the medical field-go on about their daily lives. I also liked their reasoning to produce a medical drama which was that hospitals were where the most dramatic moments occurred, for example during births, deaths or sickness. And since we are still in the Covid-19 pandemic, it ties in greatly to be paying homage to all the medical personnel saving lives. Hence, props to those who were involved in this meaningful masterpiece <3

The drama is not the usual 16 episodes, but has 12 episodes for each season (SEASON 2 IS COMING SOON YAAS) Good thing is I felt that they were still able to weave a dynamic storyline in the first season even with lesser episodes. The writing was just top-notch with the witty humor bits. Additionally, the music is AMAZING. I love the concept of the main characters being a band and playing different songs every episode too.

Okay, now onto the characters. I thought that every character in this drama was well rounded. Starting of with the main five characters, also known as The 99ers, whose distinctive personalities and natural chemistry make all of them extremely likeable. All main characters are professors of different specialties, and I find the male OB-GYN (Seokhyeong) and female neurosurgeon (Songhwa) very refreshing. Also, I like Shin-Lee dramas always have characters that might be realistic yet hardly seen in other dramas or films. For example, Professor Ahn Jeongwon. Despite being a chaebol (inheritor/heir), he isn’t depicted as a spoilt brat or a cold character, instead as a warm Pediatric doctor who uses his wealth to secretly support patients in need. However it makes him stingy to his friends LOL

To be honest, I really thought I was gonna dislike Junwan due to his cold and tsundere nature. I pretty much believed that he was going to be the party pooper type of the bunch, but with the writer being a master of character development, he turned out to be really sincere and hilarious at times. Same for Ikjun, who apart from his enthusiastic and happy go lucky exterior, cares the most about the people around him. Although Seokhyeong seemed detached and introverted, he shows a emotional side to his friends as well as his mother. Songhwa is literally a girlboss though haha she’s smart, capable and gets along with everyone well. And she’s the most sane out of the bunch.

With all the main characters, we have the relationships. Junwan is the first to date seriously with Iksun (the dog or Micky? jkjk) who is Ikjun’s sister. When it first happened I was like not again Jung Kyung Ho (bc he dated his best friend’s sis in prison playbook too LMAO) I think their relationship was realistic and open. It also showed a more sensitive side to Junwan who would do anything for her. I especially liked how he said he didn’t need access to her phone because he trusted her. Yet as all couples do, they have their fair share of ups and downs. Like conflicts on getting married and a long distance relationship as Iksun moves overseas for graduate studies. I don’t really know how to take the ambiguous ending for these two, as Junwan receives the returned box (that has the ring he sent) I really hope nothing bad happens to these two though.

I’m sure we all love Wintergarden couple though, tbh they’re kinda my OTP at the moment 🤣 It was pretty much a ‘will they won’t they’ relationship with a relatively slow build. I think Gyeoul turned out to be one of my favourite characters. Shin Hyun Been did a good job at portraying her as a straightforward but innocent Resident, who is pretty much openly crushing on Jeongwon. The scenes they had together were adorably awkward (and the scene where he gives her chocopies omg) And when Jeongwon battles his inner conflict to become a priest, the final decision where they kiss was beautifully shot, with the actors both showcasing their emotions extremely well.

Then we have Chihong who pursues Songhwa, his professor. Midway through the drama, it is also shown that Ikjun and Songhwa might have had romantic feelings for each other. Songhwa ends up rejecting Chihong’s confession. In my opinion, Chihong was quite a interesting character but I didn’t really like him at the end. (I like the actor though) He did a real jerk move during drinking games, insisting on Ikjun to confess his feelings towards her even though he is already trying not to put Songhwa in an awkward spot. Although his character did end up making a cool exit and when I thought about his incredible story of soldier to doctor, I kinda regret disliking him that much. As for IkSong, In the final episode Ikjun confesses to her one last time, and we are left waiting for Songhwa’s reply. As much as I love this pairing, I don’t think that the ship will sail or maybe not as quickly as we think. I believe Songhwa would meticulously consider the sacrifices to their friendship or other aspects and might not be able to bring herself to it, but I hope it’s otherwise.

Lastly not forgetting Seokhyeong and Minha, another Professor+resident pairing. This one’s a bit ambiguous though, mainly because there hasn’t been much romantic development. To me, the most impactful scene came from Minha who had been irritated by continuous night shifts and was on the verge of a breakdown. She ended up remarkably saving a patient, starting off surgery on her own for the first time. Oh man Minha was such a lovable character, I remember feeling so bad for her but extremely proud of her for her accomplishment. Although Seokhyeong seemed a bit aloof and distant (which was intentional bc he’s an introvert) I think the backstory and all the hardships he faced with his family really made me feel for him. I hate to break it to you, but I’m not so sure if the ship will sail because of the phone call from his ex-wife and Minha’s somewhat rejected confession. But who knows, they might pull off a twist 👀

Apart from all these characters, there are more characters HHAHAH However, I think this is the killing point of ShinLee dramas. Unlike typical dramas which usually focuses on a main character and 2-3 side characters, they like to cast a diverse range of actors (especially those from theatre/musicals and lesser known drama/movie actors) while actually give their characters personality or a reason to be there. I’ve seen many dramas where extras or side characters were kind of irrelevant thus making me feel that they weren’t needed to build the storyline, yet ShinLee dramas hit different y’all. Every role, no matter how small, holds significance to the drama. It really seemed like a collaborative work that shows off every actors skills (and not forgetting staffs) and teamwork.

Anyways because there are way too many characters and too many scenes for me to mention them all, I’ll just talk about some honourable mentions heheh

1. Sunbin and Seokmin confession scene (ahh so cute)

I kinda sensed that they liked each other at the start but I didn’t know Seokmin would ask her out on a date at the end. Even though it’s kinda awkward that they are dating and working with each other though (both are in the same department) but hey the confession was cute and awkward and just warm and fuzzy 🥰

2. MAMA ROSA IS THE QUEENN

I think we all (would) love Mama Rosa because she’s a real one ☝️ (probably the coolest mother ever) She’s feisty, hilarious and kind to others. Plus her friendship with Ju Jong Su was just adorable and super wholesome. The scenes where they were supporting one another through tough times and hanging out with each other when they felt lonely always put a smile on my face. Oh and how Mama Rosa treated Gyeoul was extremely sweet. (as well as Seokhyeong’s mother) Despite her tough exterior, she’s a likeable character for being a strong but caring woman.

3. Just Do Jae Hak

I seriously love this guy so muchhh omg he’s so funny

Do Jae Hak has a funny amd clumsy personality, though it’s clear he’s been through a lot and is strong willed person. From admitting his indecisiveness to counselling Jun Wan on his love issues, there’s literally nothing to hate about him.

4. Uju and his dadd

The father and son chemistry between these two is so good omg. The scenes with these two are so adorable and heartwarming (not to mention hilarious) It’s amazing to see how Ikjun cares so much for Uju despite his hectic workdays while going through infidelity issues with his ex-wife. Uju is matured for his age and shows his love and appreciation for his dad too, making their interaction a great portrayal of a healthy family relationship💞

5. the food stealing the show🥘

Who doesn’t love food and when a show has great food scenes? Some of the best scenes are definitely when the 99s gather to eat. It really showcases each character’s personality with the tiniest details as well as highlight warm delicious meals. Just don’t watch this when you’re hungry at 2am in the morning guys you’ll be drooling all over your screens HAHAHA

Of course there are way more aspects, like Hongdo and Yoonbok, Ikjun and Iksun’s pigeon jokes and raps, or Jeongwon drunk crying in the chicken shop with his brother (who was his coach in Reply 1994 when he played Chilbong LOL)

Most importantly, I think it is the themes and messages that you get from the drama that really create such a lasting impression. Not only does it hit you in the feels with the hardships of hospital patients, or the hardworking doctors+nurses who are working long shifts saving lives, it also tackles topics of friendships through the possibilities of platonic and friends-to-lovers relationships. However I think the biggest lesson for me came from Seokhyeong, who learns to live his life doing what he want, with the people he treasures. Although the drama might seem slow at times (mainly because there isn’t really a main plot line/conflict occurring), but this drama would still bring you on a journey where you would laugh, cry and finish the series, begging for season 2 ✌🏻

“Did you see the new guy?” Tommy leaned over his desk, whispered to Steve.

“Yeah, saw him this morning. That car is fucking cool.” Tommy pushed at his shoulder.

He had seen the new guy, had stared at him, those thick gorgeous legs, that fucking ass. Those blueblueblue eyes.

He got another look at him in English Lit, took his usual spot at the back of the classroom, and waited with bated breath as he swaggered in, made a beeline for the empty seat at Steve’s two-person table.

He smirked at Steve, looked at him though long, thick eyelashes.

“What’s your name then, Pretty Boy.” Steve felt his face grow hot, had to turn his eyes away from those blueblueblue eyes.

“Um, Steve Harrington.” He smirked.

“Maybe I’ll stick to Pretty Boy.” He winked at Steve. “I’m Billy. Billy Hargrove.” Steve took his outstretched hand. Billy clasped his hand in both of his warm ones. “Good to meet you, Sweet Thing.”

Steve spent the rest of class flicking his eyes over to Billy, to the neat notes he took, to the way he sat low in his chair, thighs spread open.

He got a reprive from the pure sin that is Billy Hargrove during his alegebra II class before he walked into the locker before gym, saw Billy tugging unbottoning his shirt, folding it neatly and placing it into his locker. The one right next to Steve’s.

He had large scars on his chest, one under each pec. Steve smiled sheepishly at him as he began changing himself.

They scrimaged basketball for the class, played shirts and skins.

Billy was a fucking beast on the court, played skins with Steve.

They were a powerhouse, were able to work together well. Billy was fast on the court, and aggressive. Steve was agile, moved quickly and was good at faking out the other team.

“Hargrove, you gonna try out for the team?” Billy smirked at the coach, licking over his teeth in a way Steve shouldn’t find fucking hot.

“That depends. You looking for a new point?”

“Harrington’s our starting point, but you two are good together, if you wanna be shooting guard.”

“Hear that, Stevie? We’re gonna be teammates.”

Steve just grinned, didn’t know if he could handle being so close to a sweaty Billy so often, just kept thinking, suggestive things, trying to not to get hard at fucking school.

A few weeks later in English Lit, Billy passed him a note.

You bored?

He looked at Billy, glaring at him.

Steve had been nodding off all class.

Just didn’t get much sleep.

Billy read it wuickly, raised one eyebrow suggestively. Steve shoved him another note.

Not like THAT, you ass.

Billy had to stifle a laugh.

So then what?

Steve just looked at him, shook his head. Billy furrowed his brows.

You okay?

Steve shrugged.

I get really bad nightmares.

Billy made a little pouty face at him.

You wanna ditch? Steve grinned.

Billy was a reckless driver.

He sped around corners, slammed his foot down on the peddle, cackled when Steve would grip onto the handle.

They drove out of Hawkins, the windows down, cool air whipping around them, some fucking loud metal album Steve didn’t know, nor particularly like.

They stopped outside the town limits, parking by the side of the road, walking through a filed.

Steve skimmed his hands along the top of the tall grass.

“You get nightmares a lot?” Steve just nodded. “What about?”

“I don’t really like talking about it.” They were sitting at the top of a hill, were shoulder to shoulder, looking out over the flat beige land surrounding Hawkins.

“I didn’t think I’d like it here. But some parts are okay.” He knocked into Steve.

“Can I ask you about the scars on your chest? I noticed them yesterday.”

“You can ask. Doesn’t mean I’ll tell.” Billy lit a cigarette, taking a long drag.

“That’s fair.” Billy just considered him for a moment.

“You tell me about your nightmares, I’ll tell you about the scars.” Steve stole his cigarette, gazing out at the hazy skyline.

“Someone died. In my backyard. In my pool. Most of my nightmares are about her.” He looked down at his hands. “It was my fault. I didn’t hear when she fell in. Was too busy, being a douchebag.” There was a firm hand on his shoulder.

“Did you push her in?” Steve looked at him, his eyes wild.

“Of course I didn’t! Jesus, Billy.”

“Then it wasn’t your fault. If she fell in and drowned, that’s no one’s fault.”

“But if I had been paying attention-”

“Maybe you could’ve saved her, and maybe you couldn’t have. You don’t know, Pretty Boy. But you didn't, you didn’t kill her.” Steve’s eyes were flicking between his eyes, his lips. Billy licked his lips, heard Steve’s breath catch.

He leaned in, threw caution to the wind, and just kissed Steve.

His lips were soft, his mouth pliant against his own. He kissed back eagerly, made noisess into Billy’s mouth, threaded a hand in his hair.

Billy pulled back, holding Steve’s face in his hands, watched as Steve’s eyes fluttered open, staring at Billy.

“I like you a lot.” It was barely a whisper. Billy had to turn away from his sincere eyes.

“The scars are from surgery. A surgery I had a few years ago, to, to get rid of my tits.” Steve just furrowed his brow.

“But, why did you have tits?” He pursed his lips. “Oh.” Billy’s heart raced as it dawned on Steve.

And then Steve just, shrugged. Leaned back in to kiss him again.

Billy pulled away.

“Wait, so you don’t, mind?”

“No. I like you. I don’t really mind what your body’s like. I mean, but I’m certainly not mad at all this.” He ran soft hands over Billy’s thick thighs, his toned arms.

Billy smirked at him.

Leaned in and kissed him again.

Do you recover well from surgery? Judging by the two surgeries I've had, oh yeah. I was hyper as hell when I came home from getting tubes put in my ears as a little kid, even though the doctor said I'd be very sleepy. Then, after my cyst removal, I was put on very strong painkillers but was still warned it was going to be a painful recovery, when it totally wasn't. I literally only took painkillers the first day. What addictions have you had? Caffeine, technology. Would you change your name if you became famous? Nah. If Cupid were real, would you hire him to make someone love you? No. I don't want somebody forced to love me. Ever been to an auction? No. Which word(s) do you generally use to describe someone attractive? (e.g. “fit”, “sexy”) It kinda varies with gender. Women I tend to call "beautiful" or "gorgeous," sometimes "hot" or "cute," while men I usually refer to as "handsome" or "hot"/"sexy." The last person you kissed - are they older or younger than you? He still tends to win when he tries to come over, but sometimes I'll block him with my arm, and this spoiled brat will actually slap it a few times before walking away lmao. Would you rather live in a house with a swimming pool or an indoor cinema? Absolutely a pool. I want one badly. Do you own a credit card? If so, do you currently owe any money on it? Could you afford to pay it off tomorrow if necessary? No. How many hours of sleep do you typically get each night? Is that enough to function or would you rather have more? Especially lately, I don't get nearly enough. Like at the time I'm answering this question, it's 4 AM, and I've been up for almost a couple hours. I struggle with falling asleep, I will ALWAYS wake up at least once in the night, and I jerk awake from nightmares regularly still. It's a big reason why I pretty much require naps. Does your house have a loft/basement? Are they functional or do you just use them for storage? We only have an attic. Do you suffer from road rage? What kind of thing tends to set you off or wind you up while driving? No. I'm way too timid of a driver to get that outwardly pissy about stupid people. I'd just judge them in silence, haha. At a local grocery store to work in the deli. Got the job, lasted there for not even two hours. :^) Do you know anyone with autism, mood disorders or learning disabilities? Autism and mood disorders, yes. I myself may have high-functioning Asperger's (yes, I know that term doesn't technically exist anymore, it's just the umbrella term of "autism," but w/e). Have you ever had an immediate relative pass away of cancer? My grandmother died of pancreatic cancer, and it's pretty much guaranteed that, unless there's some sudden accident, my mom will die of cancer, too. Hers got too bad to entirely eliminate every trace of cancer cells, so it will inevitably re-emerge at some point, just obviously some place else given that she had a total hysterectomy. Would you rather work in an office, warehouse or on a retail shop floor? Office. Are you a fan of sweet, sour, salty, or savory snacks? I enjoy all of those, but sour I think tops the list.

oooh thank you anon this was really fun and definitely too long and entirely unrealistic because of all the variables but oh well i had fun lmao

Okay I’m just going to start by talking about LIs

I think one of Season 3’s biggest successes was making AJ available from the start, I think that definitely kept those who play for the girls interested

HOWEVER i also think we need one of each: an AJ, a Talia, and a Marisol

Someone you can couple up with right off the bat, someone that takes a bit of time to warm up, maybe around the halfway mark, and someone that isn’t available til the last or second to last recoupling, maybe because they’re only bicurious or its just in their character to take a while to warm up in general, they spent the season in friendship couples or blowing their shot because they didn’t want to move too quick

I know the amount of LIs in Season 2 is a huge attraction, but it obviously wasn’t maintainable, since so many LIs lost their personality after CA

Again, I think Season 3 did great on ideas, but bad execution on drama and actual plot

So I’d probably keep it about 9, maybe 10

And ideally one of them would be trans, probably a trans guy with top surgery scars. Someone makes a joke on the first day and he explains no problem, is open about it and his experiences, maybe he was kicked out as a teenager and is all about positivity and loving people for who they are because of it

I’m all on board for a enby or gnc character or MC, but I honestly think Love Island’s too binary for someone like that to thrive

OH! And an ace LI that’s probably sex neutral and really comfortable with it. They’re up front with their sexuality but have no problem with how sex-focused Love Island is, like they’re fine with the flirting and intimate stuff, they’re just not attracted at the end of the day

Or have this season’s slowburn female LI be demi? I’m not demi, only ace, so I can’t speak on that experience, but I think that might work pretty well, maybe she goes in knowing she’s demisexual and comes out of it knowing she’s demiromantic too? Id love that but idk

I want to touch on customization too, since there’s nowhere near enough

Definitely body types

I forget who said it, but have the typical thin type, a muscular type, and a plus sized

And don’t get me wrong, I know it’s extra work for the artists, but I personally think it’d be worth, but who knows

Make fantasy hair colours possible - blue, green, purple, pink, silver - with the type of variety S3 had, in a style closer to S2

Also tats! And piercings! Just like a septum or some ear piercing, maybe a lip, nothing too difficult

And allow for actually different personalities and careers

I get that most people who apply are going to be outgoing and influencers, but this is all fake anyway so who cares

Have your personality impact LIs, certain LIs are easier to get hearts with with a certain personality, while others have more negative reactions to that personality

Lot of coding but this is just my make believe, what’s the harm

Okay into each day

Id have 20 days, since I agree that that’s a pretty good sweet spot

And Im definitely on board with MC being a bombshell, but instead of introing her on the first day, Id do the second

First half of the episode is spent as a recap of the first day, 5 couples like usual, let’s call the Islanders Bobby, Harry, Camilo, Bill, Rohan, AJ, Talia, Elladine, Miki, and Erikah, I’ll explain later, it’s pretty much for one single reason each

So MC’s first day is the Islander’s second, she shows up like Lucas & Henrik, before all the Islanders are up, and she has an option to say hi to someone early, add a gem to be upfront about being interested or something, during the second half of the first episode

Second episode starts with all the Islanders finding MC and saying hi, whoever you chose to have a chat with’s partner is kinda salty, if you chose a guy

MC ends the day choosing between any of the guys and two of the girls, AJ and Talia

For the guys, like Season 3, three are endgame, ones a red herring like Rohan in Season 1, and one’s up front about it being a friendship couple from the start, since I definitely think we need actual friendship couples - this friendship couple guy is Bobby, but without the pushy crush

Rohan is initially interested, but like in Season 1, he gives it up after a while

AJ is super into it and happy if you pick her and has no problem with it, while Talia has a “no thanks” thing and makes you pick again

Basically, youre not supposed to pick Talia because she’s not open to that yet, and that tosses you off her route or makes it really difficult to fix, maybe only a few dialogue options over the next few days or a specific personality gets her to forgive you. If you don’t pick her, you can couple up later as normal

Day 2 is like it usually is, you’re LIs original partner starts grafting on your LI if you have a male LI, Bobby doesn’t care if you steal AJ, you just have to have a talk with him and he’s fine

You can attempt to reconcile with their original partner, and if you succeed they’ll stop, if not your LI will step in and tell her he’s not interested

Day 3 finds a whole Villa recouping with a dumping. If you have a female LI, then girls are choosing, and AJ will pick you, however there is no dumping for future numbers sake, I know it doesn’t make much sense for the guys to be safe but whatever

If you have a male LI, the boys are choosing. If youre with Bobby, you get stolen and have to help Bobby decide who to dump.

He’ll always choose to dump Miki, regardless of who your LIs ex was or what you say. His reasoning is that she hasn’t made a connection and she was accidentally mean to him once and this Bobby’s hella sensitive

Bobby kinda struggles with it and has a rough few days - You have the option to be sympathetic and keep him available as a friendship couple option, or be a jerk and lose the option to be in a friendship couple

Day 4 is a bit of a filler day, with a fun challenge and some actual conversations.

You learn about your LI and someone else of your choosing, whether that’s a friend, like Ell or Erikah, or another LI youre romancing, like Talia or another of the guys

This is the first time Talia starts to be honest with MC about maybe fancying her and being open to seeing what happens

Day 5 has bombshells: a guy and a girl. The girl is our Marisol of this season, which can also explain away why she’s so slow to open up, she feels like an outcast since she came late and MC can empathise better than anyone which is how they initially bond

The guy is also a LI, but far more bold than Marisol, he has no trouble grafting in front of MC’s LI and trying to steal her or win her over - I’m just going to call him Lucas

Day 6 has another boys’ choice disaster recouping, but with the threat of a dumping on an AJ route

No matter how you reacted to Lucas’ flirting, he picks MC, whether you were going to couple up with him or not, he still steals you from your LI just like Season 2, for simplicity’s sake

The other couples get mixed up, a Nope-adjacent couple are split up, let’s say Erikah and Camilo, but they don’t make it all about them. One of the girls had been pining after a guy but he chooses someone else even though she’s available (Elladine, but Bobby’s oblivious), the girl Bobby was planning to couple up with gets stolen (Talia, but regardless of your route, she doesn’t fancy him), so he couples with Marisol

On a male LI route there is no dumping because the couples are already even

On an AJ route, Rohan is the deciding factor between AJ and Miki. Miki is always dumped because she was barely involved the past few days and Bill isn’t that interested in her even though they were coupled up

Day 7 is the start of Casa Amor, but much shorter this time. Two of the guys are endgame - let’s say Arjun and Carl, two are interested in other girls - let’s say Graham and Nicky, and there’s one you CAN get with, but cheats and gets dumped later on, essentially a Rocco, and one just isn’t interested, another friendship couple opportunity if you don’t want to share with one of the LIs - let’s say Seb

Day 8 is still Casa, you get to know the boys or can crack on with any of the female LIs, though this is still applicable to Day 7

You get a chance to either commit to AJ further or say you want a break to crack on with someone else

If you reassure her, she’ll pie off all the guys and you can stay on the daybed together, essentially ignoring the disaster recoupling and pretending youre still together. But if you dump her, she’ll crack on with Seb if you’re not paired with him, and Arjun if you are, just as a sort of revenge

During CA you can get closer with Talia, cheeky winks in public and getting kinda nasty during a challenge

You get sneaky scenes with Marisol where you learn where her head is at and how she has a hard time opening up and letting people in. You can reassure her and say you’ll be patient or pie her off and she’ll get with the season’s Graham, though they’ll have a different dynamic and ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE AS A COUPLE

Im sorry but boaty mcboat face and MARISOL?? i just dont get it, im sorry

You can graft on Arjun & Carl, tell them where your head is at, and they’re far less pushy

They try to impress but they’re not like poking you until you tell them you’ll take them back to the Villa like in S2

Day 9 is the final day of Casa, with a stick or switch

You can take back Arjun, Carl, Seb, or Rocco, although Seb is a platonic option but you can pair with him the rest of the season as aromantic representation

AJ never switches to save Rohan, and to be loyal if youre on her route

Talia doesn’t switch no matter the route, she spent Casa just hanging out which honestly isn’t the best idea outside of her route

Erikah switches, because like Season 1 Erikah, her head turns quickly, it’s just a matter of time. She switches to Rocco if you’re not on his route, and Arjun if you are. This is going to absolutely blow up in her face

Elladine switches because she gets worried Bobby will, picks Nicky and they actually get on really well

Marisol switches to Graham if youre not on her route to stay safe again, though they dont last anyway, and sticks if you are because she spent Casa with MC instead of the guys

Bobby sticks cuz Bobby

Harry always switches to someone, let’s call her Cherry cuz why not

Camilo sticks to get back with MC or Erikah - Erikah switched, effectively dumping him and really upsetting him

Rohan switches to someone, lets call her Shannon, no matter the route

Bill always sticks

Lucas switches to someone, lets call her Blake, no matter what, just for simplicity’s sake and because I’m already ripping from S2 so who cares

Day 10 is aftermath, much like Season 2

You can talk with your previous LI,

Day 11 has a massive dumping where you vote to save a few people

One of the original Villa boys stays, Camilo is the default but if youre on Harry or Bill’s route, they’ll fill his place

Rohan and Bobby survive

If you brought back a Casa boy, you pick between him and Lucas to be dumped

If you didn’t, Lucas is safe automatically

Rocco/Arjun survive, they’re coupled with Erikah

Either Nicky survives to stay with Elladine or Graham is saved for Marisol if she brought him back, Nicky automatically survives if not

You vote between Cherry, Blake, Shannon on who to save, Shannon is the encouraged option because her and Rohan are actually really cute, but he’ll be nice to any of the girls for the rest of the season

You have to vote between AJ and Talia, sorry queers, i hate it too

Day 12 has a recouping where Talia is finally available if you saved her after everything from Casa Amor

You can reunite with your LI from pre-CA or simply stick to youre CA pick, it’s girls choice, MC is somewhere in the middle

Day 13 has two bombshells - both guys, let’s call them Levi and Tai

Levi grafts hard on MC whereas Tai takes a backseat and MC has to go to him instead if shes interested

Day 14 is a grafting day, you can graft and bond with your LI, Levi, Tai, or Marisol

Day 15 is the second to last recoupling, where you can get with every LI

If youre romancing Marisol, you have a fight in the morning because she still won’t commit and she hasn’t really had an drama on her route yet

Day 16 is an explosion of drama

It’s another Roccogate but on an even bigger scale

If you’re on Rocco’s route, you suffer the backlash, and if you’re not, Erikah does but it still blows back to MC in order to keep her involved

Rocco makes a move on Erikah when MC’s with him, and MC when Erikah is. If he makes a move on MC, she can reciprocate or blatantly shut him down and Erikah will always reciprocate it when he’s coupled with MC because whaddaya know her head can turn at the littlest thing

If he made a move on MC, she can tell her LI who will chew him out privately, or keep it to herself

They basically get caught in the act by Levi, who doesn’t say anything until the afternoon - a lie detector that reveals a bunch of stuff, ill discuss later

He’s asked if he has any drama and he lies, saying no but eventually spills that Rocco made a move on MC/Erikah, and regardless of whether MC reciprocated or not, he says she did

If MC’s with Rocco, she can attack Erikah until someone steps in, maybe Bobby? Or Arjun? and reasons with her. She can get most of the Villa on her side about Rocco being a prick - except for Levi, no matter what, he’ll always side with Rocco and say it’s part of the show

If MC’s not with Rocco and denied him, her LI will accuse her of lying and she’ll have to essentially win them back by the next day or try and get Rocco to clear her name, which she can if they have a high relationship

And if MC didn’t deny him, her LI will dump her on the spot if they have a low relationship, or still win them back if they have a high relationship - but it will still be remembered

Back to the lie detector

There’s the typical S1 questions, cheating is revealed, you can commit to your LI

BUT

If youre on a Marisol route, your LI asks you about her and MC has to confess, which drives a rift between her and Marisol because yeah

Day 17 is the final recoupling

Marisol basically storms into the kitchen when MCs making breakfast and says they’re coupling up and just leaves again. MC has the option to be like “yeah okay, chill” and go back to her breakfast or “what the fuck? no” and chase after her and pie her off

If you don’t pie her off, she chooses MC herself, because that scene in S2 is just really cute and I want another

There’s a double dumping of two boys - Levi and Rocco, and you have no say in it

Erikah, MC, or her LI will essentially turn the Villa against Rocco, while a few of the Islanders resent Levi for his take, mainly the girls

It’s a couple vote, and even if you vote for someone else, they still get dumped because they have the most votes

Day 18 is filler and fluff, meet the parents and final dates, with a surprise dumping where you can get a say and can help them pack, but its a strictly platonic goodbye

There’s so many possibilities and I don’t feel like listing them out right now, but it’s a single couple between three at-risk ones

Day 19 another surprise dumping, why not stick with prom? I just really dig the art, and but maybe make it closer to Season 2? And more personalized speeches!!!

And have a Lottie/Hannah moment!

Idk who all would be here, I don’t feel like listing it out, but I think I have all the dumpings listed below the cut

You can pick between both people dumped who you want to help pack, and can have a moment with either of them, opening a “runaway” option after the finale or reunion

Day 20 is the finale, with the Islanders gossiping and stressing in the morning as some filler content

The afternoon is the announcement, and your placement depends on your couple - If you were loyal the entire time you were with them and have a max relationship you get 1st, if you were loyal but dont have max hearts, you get 2nd, if you weren’t loyal but still have max hearts, you get 3rd, and if you have neither you get 4th

If you win, your LI gets the money no matter what and it’s not based on relationship, it’s based on where in the relationship you are - if MC agreed to be their girlfriend on Day 18, they split the money, and if MC didn’t, then they don’t see a future and keep it

The last episode is the finale party with options to dump your LI for good, make plans to move in, reconcile and explain why MC didn’t say yes on Day 18, or get with someone else entirely

Oh and I want two of the dumped guys to show up together and have started dating outside of the Villa

ok so pretty obviously for me it is Fallout: New Vegas (2010) ! i had played fnv a few years ago and i liked it but i was doing other stuff at the time and i revisited it on a whime after a fallout 4 binge in like, late may, and then i made a new tumblr just so i could post art for it, oops, but also arcade was a super important comfort character for me and helped me come to terms w my gender and sexuality which is very cool and sexy of him!

boy did i! apart from antonio and bea, all the characters i talk about on this blog are brand spankin new! this year was the most i’ve created, in like, forever, which is cool!

i am gonna talk about lilt though because they were the most Influential by far,, also im not describing bc u know all about them but they are a Very Important OC to me,,,

so i made lilt before i’d come to terms w my gender properly, i thought haha i’ll make a nonbinary cowboy who wants to help people and has long hair and is afab and got top surgery (: this is not a cry for help (: but they were really the driving force behind me having gender revelation 2.0 and deciding to put the gas on my own transition! and the reason behind them being japanese is that i lived in japan last year, and my mental health started to take a huge dip towards the end due to me going “Yes I Am Woman”, and because I was in such a rural area it was very conservative, and a lot of people didn’t have very positive views on queer communities. making lilt, nagisa, someone living rurally and in japanese culture be able to live comfortably within their identity, helps me hope that i can continue the relationships i left in japan, no matter what i look like!

Hey, you! As a fic writer I’m terribly interested in your fowl sitcom idea. I think it’s got a lot of potential. You wouldn’t be up to sharing details about it would you?

anon you have no idea how thrilled i was when i saw this ask LOL i’ve literally been talking about fowl and how i see their dynamic in my head for AGES! i could fill several pages with thoughts i’ve had involving the group and how they interact with each other, both humorous and serious. but this seems to be asking for the more funny lighthearted approach so allow me to put it into words to my best ability. here’s a rundown of how i see each character:

bradford: the boss who’s done with everyone’s shit. i don’t think about him that much but he’s definitely the most competent, that’s basically canon. idk anything about the other two buzzards though...iirc only one of them has a name so far? lmao

black heron: total mad scientist. i honestly wish this part of her character was utilized more in fan content because it’s so INTERESTING. she canonically did surgery on steelbeak i mean. come on. anyway, she is probably the most competent after bradford and the oldest (minus rockerduck) by quite a bit. sometimes she feels like she has to babysit the other agents. she isn’t entirely wrong to feel that way

steelbeak: there’s not much i can say here that double o duck didn’t already show but he’s definitely the butt of a lot of jokes within the dynamic, a wild card who’s extremely unhinged and impulsive. he definitely likes to do really dumb shit to impress the other agents and almost gets himself killed every time. he does get along begrudgingly well with gandra and possibly others but going into that dynamic is a whole other story that i’ll hopefully tell one day. and we all know how he is with black heron, that’s a fun one

gandra: she’s the youngest ofc. her and steelbeak aren’t too far apart (maybe 4 or 5 years) but he thought she was 13 when they first met and it took him a few months to realize how old she really was. despite this, she's very capable and one of the smartest members. i think she’s a pretty high-ranking agent despite her age and it’s definitely well-deserved. a lot of fowl’s plans would fall apart without gandra...which is funny because she’s definitely not gonna stay there

phantom blot: ok. here we go. so yes i know that we know absolutely nothing about this guy other than he’s funso and whatever frank hinted (yes i do know it all off the top of my head, no i won’t go into it because the fact that i have MEMORIZED this shit is embarrassing) but i have found myself preemptively attached and very much so. i’ve managed to temporarily fill in the blanks by coming up with some pretty sweet lore based on my own thoughts and older blot content that i want to drop in fic-form sometimes before it’s squashed by canon and have absolutely fallen in love with this character while doing so. despite this, i’ll keep my answer here on the shorter side. i don’t think many people in fowl know much about blot? he likes to keep to himself, finding comfort in the air of mystery he puts on to throw everyone off. most of the agents are intimidated by him and rightfully so, for he is rather terrifying and prides himself on it. other than that, he actually doesn’t really HATE his job as funso. despite everything, he’s not bad with kids. plus, he’s probably the only person in the universe who genuinely enjoys funso’s pizza. there’s a lot more i could say here but then it’ll turn into a “saturn’s self-indulgent phantom blot lore” post and not a fowl dynamic post so i’ll end it by saying that i REALLY love the idea of him slowly becoming closer to some of his co-workers :”) i think he’s a really overdramatic and almost silly guy deep down inside (but in an evil and fucked up way) and if he got to know someone, that side of him would really shine!

rockerduck: he expects a lot more respect than he’s gonna get from this crew, i'll just say that. jeeves is really the only one who listens to him and everyone else kind of views him as a small angry old man who they spent hours unthawing from a block of ice. also, he’s hilariously gullible from culture shock and gandra takes advantage of this the most. she kinda has it out for him because he’s a rich bastard and she doesn’t vibe with that. he gets along with jeeves and...not really anyone else. sorry rockerduck. he’s kind of the group loser :(

jeeves: i’ve admittedly thought about him the least. he kinda just interacts with rockerduck i think? he can’t talk or anything so not many of the other fowl agents want to get to know him. but he has a softer side, as we saw at the end of outlaw scrooge mcduck. i do wonder if that might come back into play sometimes in canon. also it’s fun to imagine him doing shit like knitting sweaters with that awful look on his face that he probably can’t even wipe off

and...that’s about it! this got REALLY long and rambly so i apologize for that but hopefully it gave you what you need and if you have any questions, please ask because i cannot describe how much i love talking about these guys!!!

I am honestly curious about what neutrois/transmasc means

[I'll try to explain it a bit? In all honesty talking about my gender online is something I'm not entirely comfortable with so I'll probably keep this brief ;v;

So as neutrois.com puts it, neutrois is a non-binary gender identity under the transgender umbrella. For me it is an agender/null-gender situation, though it is one where I feel much more comfortable with and have chosen to be labelled as male in a world that really requires you to choose something. If I could live my life as an X or a Nothkng that would be great too, but I especially hate being percieved as female.

I experience dysphoria for my body in the fact that I can't grow a beard and that my chest isn't as broad as I want it to be, but I also feel weird about the thought of any genitalia. I don't wanna go in for Ken doll surgery, and I think a packer would probably make me feel better when I go out in a suit or my other male presenting clothes, but I don't especially want bottom surgery either. I'd love top surgery though lmao.

My gender is difficult for even me to articulate entirely... Neutrois is just what I feel fits best (though a lot of the time I will say "transmasc NB" to make it easier for others to understand) out of what I've seen, and have used this for the past 3-4 years. At the end of the day I'm comfortable enough with myself so say "I don't know, but as long as you use He/Him or They/Them pronouns for me I'll be happy".

Just gotta rant for a minute so this is going under a cut

I can’t stand the way tumblr in general talks about “rich people” (which they can’t define to save their fucking lives) and particularly when they mention “millionaires” as though it actually means something significant in terms of wealth.

First, no one seems to understand that by today’s inflated standards, a million dollars really isn’t that much. A quick google search will tell me that the average “middle-income” parent in America will spend over 250k to raise a child from birth to 18 years old. If a couple has 4 kids, they’re already spending over a million dollars on those kids. Yes, that’s over 18 years, but it’s still meaningful.

If a person makes 100k, which is supposedly the 85th percentile of income, it only takes them 10 years to make a million dollars. And yes, obviously they’re spending money too, and it’s not like their savings or their net worth are going to be a million in that time, but people don’t even seem to comprehend that their earnings over that time would literally be a million. Someone earning the average American income, let’s say 50k because I get conflicting information from various sources, would only take 20 years to earn a million dollars.

And calling “millionaires” (putting that in quotes because people (a) do NOT understand the difference between net worth and actual liquid assets or even income) rich, particularly in the context of the “eat the rich” rhetoric, is ridiculous. I know this site has a serious problem with black-and-white thinking, but for fuck’s sake.

Let’s take a look at my parents.

My dad grew up in a relatively low-income household. His mother’s grandparents came straight from Italy with a few dollars in their pockets and nothing else. Her family struggled to get food on the table at times. She worked very hard as a seamstress and married a man who had a good job at Ford back when that meant actual benefits including into retirement, and so they managed to raise two boys without having to worry too much about being able to afford food or housing. They saved like crazy and spent the minimum that they possibly could on themselves, so that when they reached retirement, they had a pretty decent amount of savings for the rest of their lives and could finally enjoy some luxury vacations and get a small but nice house in Florida.

My mom grew up in a truly low-income household. She was the youngest of five siblings living in a tiny, shitty town in Nowhere, Michigan, with two parents who smoked constantly, in a house that sat next to some kind of horrifying mystery waste pond (she and both of her sisters had cancer, my mom at just 36, and one of her brothers died from some kind of unknown neurological deterioration). Her father got TB and spent time in a sanitarium, after which he became a withdrawn alcoholic and then died relatively young. Her mother became depressed, stopped working, and died of cancer. My mom lost both of her parents in her early 20s, before she even met my father.

Both of my parents were gifted with the great privileges of great brains and being white. Even in their crappy hick town in the middle of nowhere, my mom managed to be in the top of her class (of 56 whole people) in high school and earned a scholarship to a state university, literally the only way she could have afforded to attend. My dad worked to pay for his college as far as I know (because back then you could actually do that). They both got bachelor’s degrees. My dad became an engineer, a good career, and quickly found a job with a relatively new, small local company. He worked extremely hard, long hours for years and moved up to being a manager, and the company has grown a lot over the 25+ years he’s now worked there, with the result that he now makes a low six-figure salary. My mom took a computer programming course after realizing her journalism degree wouldn’t get her much paid work, and has worked as a programmer for 25+ years now, switching jobs sometimes, usually making somewhere in the 60-70k range in the last decade or so.

My mother got pregnant with my sister around the time she and my dad got engaged. She was working a crappy programming job and he’d barely started as an engineer, making nowhere near six figures. They lived in a trailer park, in a trailer with a hole in the floor and steps that were a safety hazard. She’d spent some time living with her sister, who’s 13 years older than her and never had children (thus had a house and some savings). My dad’s mother, the seamstress, made my mom’s wedding dress for free as long as my mom bought the material for it, which was just about all they could afford. They had a nice, small wedding when my sister was about 2 (she was afraid of my mom’s dress lmao) and one of my cousins took the pictures.

Four years after my sister was born, my parents had saved up enough to put a down payment on our house, a moderate-sized family home in a suburban neighborhood that was just being built. The house was a little over 200k. She got pregnant with me and the house was finished just after I was born.

My mom got cancer when I was 2 years old. They haven’t talked to me much about it. Her sister spent a lot of money to buy her a really nice wig made of animal hair (which, unfortunately, she could rarely wear because it made her very itchy). She went through surgery, chemo, and radiation. She spent months sick as hell and miserable, while trying to raise two young daughters. Thankfully, they’d saved enough to be able to handle the medical bills, particularly with my dad’s good job that had good benefits and, by then, was paying him a pretty decent salary. My mom recovered, thankfully (over 20 years in remission now!).

In 2008, when the recession hit, my mom lost her job quickly. She tried finding new ones but couldn’t. No one was hiring programmers, they were getting rid of them. Her depression got a lot worse. I was in high school and depressed myself (in large part because of the situation at home, though my parents don’t know it, that became suicidal depression a while afterward), and they had to start paying for therapy for me. My sister was in college and had to try to pay for it herself because my parents’ college fund for her hadn’t gone as far as they’d hoped. My dad’s company supplies machines to auto manufacturers. They were worried. They laid off some people, thankfully not my dad, and others had to take pay cuts. My parents started sitting down and seriously going over finances. My mom and I had to completely quit figure skating, my only physical stress outlet (like I said, that contributed a LOT to the severe depression). We had to cut down the grocery bills and think about not buying gifts for family members’ birthdays and such. My grandparents, happily retired by then with good savings, paid off the rest of our mortgage and told my dad to pay them back without interest whenever he could, so that no matter what happened with the jobs, we at least wouldn’t have to worry about losing our house. I listened to my parents scream at each other over money and I cried myself to sleep a lot of nights.

Guess what? My dad is a millionaire. Definitely not in liquid assets, but in net worth he probably just barely hits 1 million. He now makes a low six-figure salary and when the economy is doing okay, he invests some of it in the stock market, mostly in low-risk stocks that are guaranteed to have payouts (I don’t know a lot about this, so that’s all I’ll say). He inherited/learned his dad’s extreme money-saving ways and saves as much as possible. He’s an engineer and very handy, so whenever possible he does home and car repairs himself to save a lot of money. I managed to get a scholarship that covered almost all of my undergrad tuition, I lived at home for half of undergrad and all of med school to save money, I worked in retail in undergrad and as an EMT in med school to pay for some of my own stuff, and they didn’t pay for any of my med school tuition, so that’s it for their educational expenses for me. My mom’s had a good, stable job for the last few years that pays in the low 80k range, I think. We live in a house worth ~250k that we now fully own thanks to my grandparents.

A few years ago, my dad’s brother bought a crappy, tiny, nearly-condemned cabin in the woods up north for about 20k (seriously, it was shit). He and my dad put in a few hundred dollars and a TON of time and manual labor to fix it up, and now we pay half the bills on it and both of our families use it for vacations. We have a small (19ft) boat that my dad bought as a gift for my mom when she had cancer--he got it extremely cheap from a guy who’d bought it, barely used it, and just wanted rid of it. It’s a 1994 and full of problems now, but we’ve managed to keep it going (barely, at times) and my dad has taken really good care of it over the years. A friend of my dad’s got him into snowmobiling about a decade ago and once his brother bought the cabin and they fixed it up, my dad got a cheap, crappy used snowmobile, which he used for a few years before reselling it and upgrading to an actually nice, new one, because yeah, he could afford it. He’s upgraded a couple times, good for him. When I actually have the time off, I go up with him in the winter and ride one of his old ones that he kept and fixed after it had an engine problem. It doesn’t cost much to renew the trail permits each year and I borrow my uncle’s gear for riding, so other than the initial cost of the sleds, it really costs us nothing to go riding (gas is extremely negligible in snowmobiles, they can go 120+ miles on a single 8 gallon tank, and we store them ourselves at the cabin so we don’t pay for that). We store the boat in our garage at home (like I said, it’s small) so other than the permit and gas for that when we take it out, again, really no continuous expense.

My parents pay all of their taxes without trying to do any bullshit work-arounds. They don’t have a lawyer or a tax accountant or a financial advisor, my dad does it all himself. He keeps track of all of our finances himself. We don’t pay a landscaping service or a cleaning service or any of that crap, we do it all ourselves like any other middle-class family. My mom donates regularly to charities for cancer, animal rescues, and injured veterans.

But to tumblr, incapable of seeing nuance, we’re “one-percenters (absolutely nowhere near true) who own a house and have a ‘vacation home’ and a boat and recreational vehicles” so we’re pretty much just as bad as Bezos, because anyone who isn’t actively struggling to put food on the table or in horrible medical debt because of our disaster of a system is apparently “rich” and there’s no such thing as shades of gray.

Keyhole Top Surgery w/ Dr. Crane

Let me just say, it went f a s t.

Consultation:

Dr. Crane was honest. He talked through the concerns my parents had, and explained the surgery options for my chest. He said I was in between for DI and keyhole and I told him keyhole since I was stealth and changed frequently in front of others. He understood and it was over. Another thing, I'm not horribly dysphoric over my chest, but I know others cant stand the sight of it, so I'll add that Dr. Crane examines really fast and you probably wont have your shirt off for more than a minute. I had 2 student doctors observing, though you can request they not be there.

Pre-op:

Dr. DeLeon who works with Dr. Crane was there and explained the medications and what not. The nurse also helped in explaining other things. Dr. Crane went in and explained the procedure. I had 1 student doctor there in observation.

Operation:

I arrived at the hospital at 5:30am for preparation. It was located across from Dr. Crane's office. They had a really nice fish tank with a fuckton of cichlids. I went in to a prep room got undressed completely and into a gown. There was a male nurse guy and he was really nice and cool, I didnt even feel him put in the IV. The anesthesiologist came in and talked to me as well as one of Dr. Crane's nurses who gave me some stuff to calm me down in my IV. Dr. Crane was busy and couldnt visit before hand, but it was fine, I didnt care much. I didnt feel nervous at all until they started wheeling me in, so I started to recite my lines from a play and I started to feel the Calm Juice by the time I got to the operating room. I barely had enough energy to move to the operating table. Next thing you know I woke up in recovery. First thing i say? "I was just saying Euripides what the hell." My nurse afterwards was not as great. She kept calling me she and not so nice to my dad either. But if I'm honest, I was high as fuck and didnt care, I was nauseous and wanted to sleep. I got wheeled to my car and was sent home.

Post op:

Again, very fast. I got to the office, and got to a room immediately (granted, I was almost late). Nurse talked to me, made sure I was good, and then the dressings came off. Man it was weird. I felt weight on my chest cause the compression had held back so much but my god I could BREATHE. They said I didnt have to wear my binder anymore but I could if I wanted to. My parents are gonna make me wear it for another week. Dr. Crane doesnt use drains for DI but does for keyhole. I got my drains removed and holy shit it was a lot. It didnt hurt, just annoying ig. The one on my left was stuck, but pulling them feels weird, and btw, I had at least 20 inches of tubing(wack I know). But alas, I shook Dr. Crane's hand, said bye to the nurses, and off i went with a new chest.

Recovery:

I know my body. That's one of the best things you can do. When I work out, I'm sore for two days and then I'm good. Same with the surgery. I was sore as shit for two days but then it was fine, just weird feelings on the incisions and drains. Specifically the left nipple and right drain. That was it really. I recovered pretty fast and this is day 4 of recovery and I'm out and about with my parents. Am I lifting and raising my arms and pulling heavy things like i was before? No, but I'm mobile. Knowing your body and knowing your surgeon are very important. Cause I knew how I heal, and Dr. Crane is a very good surgeron.

What you should know:

-oh my god pillows. Get one of those sofa pillows with the arms attached. And then get a neck pillow. You might feel uncomfortable laying flat after surgery and sleeping up may be more comfortable. Ive used my neck pillow since day 1.

-you have to pee. They just pumped you with a fuckton of fluids. You're gon a have to pee afterward. On top of that, you just got high off anesthesia. You're gonna piss yourself of you dont pee when your body says, I almost did. When nature calls, go to it.

-take it slow, it's a major surgery and your body is tryna cope with that

-LIGHT FEET. I'm a very heavy footed person, and walking like I normally did hurt. You have to be light on your feet

-Real cowboy hours. In order for me to get around easily, I was walking like a cowboy to avoid hurting my drains

-i cant really come up with much else, though I know there are better lists elsewhere lmao

Overall, I'm happy with my results. I got under the nipple keyhole and it looks great. I'd recommend Dr. Crane to any person in Texas needing surgery especially if they're under 18. The nurses are wonderful and Dr. Crane is professional and honest with his work and words.

my fucking teeth had been looked after since i was 8, i wore different kinds of braces till i was 15, and all of that to be told that the only way my teeth would ever be straight was to undergo an aesthetic surgery which consists in breaking both of my jaws, thing the orthodontist had known since i was 8. And he knew the whole brace thing would be useless. so now i’m left with absolutely no confidence in my smile, a bad self-esteem, and a total distrust for any male dentist with big fingers. dude i absolutely hated to go there, i had never trusted him for as long as i went there, i was literally crying each time i had to go there and my mom was like “stop now, you’ll see, you’ll have a beautiful smile after this, wait and see.” lmao that didn’t age well

hoodies/sweatshirts with slim or skinny jeans plaid shirts, stripped shirts, just shirts tbh with slim/skinny jeans stripped t-shirts, black t-shirts, large décolletés to show off my collarbone and when we’re feeling fab the dark see-through shirt with black top underneath (or just a dark bra idc i like it) with my fave pair of jeans (grey, with holes on the knees, high waisted, bought in the boy section from h&m so i have big pockets and elastics on the side to fit my fucking waist, best pair ever ilysm) the only consistent thing is the dark colours tbh

in uni i’m the silent one that literally never talks if they can help it. also the one who gives their notes, but those are generally illegible for the common of mortals. only takes the lead in a project if the others are even more freaked out, or else will follow gently and correct errors. goes to class. sometimes brings tea. always hungry but forgets food at home. starts the beginning of the year alone but ends up with new comrades to share the class with. never interacts first. bad at studying, only saved by a good memory and going to motherfucking class and taking notes. leg surely shaking underneath the table. not a student that terrible, just has a few troubles to adapt. terribly anxious for exams, already cried more than once in the bathroom but it’s getting better now.

walking over a bridge and seeing the dead body of my dog in the river (more emotionally upsetting than horrific). not noticing that someone was dead in the alternate reality of real life in my dream and waking up in tears because oh fuck they’re fucking dead oh no oh no but no it was a joke that my brain played on me, no one is dead, yay. walking over a bridge after getting out of a maze and the bridge breaks and falls and i fall too. it’s not really scary but it sure does happen often. i generally don’t remember my dreams and nightmares. bridges are sure a leitmotiv tho
