2020/ Chain of Fools
2020 was the year I adopted a boiler suit and gas mask as a daily uniform. The world had gone into a global lockdown to combat the COVID19 virus which meant we were only allowed to leave our house for essential reasons such as grocery shopping and exercise. When outside, we were government mandated to wear face masks to prevent the spread of the disease. They made me feel like a muzzled dog and I resented no longer being able to smile with strangers on the street. Feeling like a prisoner in his own home and under extreme stress from job insecurity, my boyfriend Jake’s amphetamine addiction began to spiral out of control.
As a result of Jake’s addiction, we had accidentally befriended a posse of drug dealers and prostitutes- bonded by our love of having a good time and a general disregard for consequence. We met Dani through a call girl friend of mine who had realised the difficulty of making a living through writing online fashion content. Dani had big brown eyes, fat, botoxed lips and dressed only in high end labels like Gucci and Balmain. Born into a wealthy family, she had acquired a taste for expensive things but lacked the work ethic to maintain this taste without selling her body for sex. Dani began to visit more throughout the lockdown to deliver Jake drugs, hidden in a bag of a groceries. One night, she played Carole King on our old vinyl player, while Jake rolled us a joint to share. I flirted with them both, knowing that it would lead to a threesome. We smoked Jake’s joint, snorted lines of cocaine off each other and then took turns going down on each other.
A week later, Dani introduced us to a crew of “script kiddies”- long haired, internet hackers with a love of mumble rap, cryptocurrency and ketamine. I made cocktails for everyone and established that one of these kids shared a mutual friend with Jake. They seemed fascinated by the genuine sexual chemistry between myself, Jake and Dani and expressed gratitude for our generous hospitality. Eventually I came to the conclusion that by associating us with this crowd, Dani had managed to successfully pray on the vulnerable- trusting junkies like us who were lax with internet security and keen for a good time. In retrospect, I wish I had known that Dani was a hustler at heart- making money in any way she could without considering the impact of her choices. At the time however, I felt like we were fully living life in the moment- something I was certain would bring me happiness, meaning and didn’t question her motives for a moment.
Ella, Dani’s best friend, had a boyish pixie cut, high cheekbones and was tall and slim. She had gradually joined in on our shenanigans, along with Mark, a dealer with a steady supply of the best gear available north of the river. We all hung out together in our plant-filled, converted warehouse listening to electronic music and sharing stories about our favourite mind-altering substances. My stories were consistently focused on MDMA. As a notoriously private person, I’d discovered MDMA helped me open up and allowed me to dance, free of fear of judgement. It had also helped Jake open up about the sexual abuse he experienced as child, a fact I doubted would have ever come up without the influence of a truth serum and something which I was certain had driven him to substance abuse in the first place.
While we laughed, chatted and danced with Dani and Mark, Ella, who claimed to be a part time poet and part-time model, entered a viral script virus onto our wireless network by requesting our wifi password. Something we provided willingly, without second thought. This meant remote access to every digital device we owned and access to all stored personal information including scanned copies of our passports and birth certificates.
The issue with Mark, despite his criminal lifestyle, was that he was excellent company. Intelligent, engaging and a DJ in his spare time- we thrived off his love of hip hop and old-school funk. Similarly, he thrived off our property location in the Inner North- close to his regular customers and discrete enough from the prying eyes of authority. We welcomed him into our home with open arms, deprived of social contact through social distancing practices enforced by the pandemic. We held COVID19 illegal gatherings where we got high off Mark’s supply, enjoyed each other’s company while Ella hacked our electronic identities. When you’re lonely, it doesn’t really matter if others are using you and you’re using them. As long as everyone is filling a clearly defined role, the maladaptive social ecosystem continues to function.
It’s unclear exactly how many international drug smuggling routes were established using our stolen online identities before Jake clued on that something wasn’t right. He told me that he had been locked out of his email account, that the speed of his phone had slowed and that he could hear clicking noises during his phone calls. He was certain that his was a breach of online security and started to question the motives of our new friends. I wrote him off as crazy, blaming his excessive use of amphetamines and the psychological effect of social isolation. I was determined to keep my online identity public, obsessed by the idea of becoming the next millennial therapist and too blinded by Dani’s beauty to believe that she would want to harm us in any way.
Eventually Jake’s distress became too extreme to ignore and he shook me violently one night, yelling at me to believe what I had assumed was a paranoid conspiracy theory. A sinking feeling in my gut became apparent when he started to coherently piece together his concerns about his online security issues. I realized that my sense of reality had been clouded by my lust for Dani and by a dark depression that had developed through my work as an essential worker during a pandemic. Based on Jake’s erratic behaviour, I knew we had to get out of the warehouse immediately, but I had no idea where to go and was fearful of drawing attention to any law-breaking activity when police presence was so prominent.
We agreed to seek refuge with our friends Trish and Rick, former 90s British ravers who had channeled their drug-fuelled benders into successful and respectable careers. I called them panicked that night, shaking and rambling about what had happened. Without hesitancy, Trish told us to come over right away. Rick’s brother back in the UK had recently killed himself and they were struggling too. Trish and Rick lived in an affluent area in the inner East which meant we needed to blend in quickly through a disguise of expensive athleisure and an almost painful sense of normality. It appeared that our efforts at disguise were successful and it seemed to result in freedom from any unusual online activity on our devices. We bought new phones, changed our phone numbers, email addresses and disconnected from the outside world for an entire week. We spoke about going to the police, however we both agreed that this would place us at too much risk to the criminal world to be a viable option.
When your online identity is stolen, you quickly start to daydream what it would be like to steal someone else’s identity. For example, what exactly would you do with those proceeds of crime? Which tropical island would you escape to, what designer clothes would you wear, which car would you drive? I quickly became entranced and jealous at the thought of this fantasy life, but then spent time reflecting on my own morality and these feelings subsided. Instead, an intense anger developed at the thought of others taking advantage of Jake and his mental illness. High on a sense of ethical superiority and new found fury, I decided to employ my favourite psychological defense mechanism, repression, to cope with my latest traumas. May you rest in peace, memory, I said to myself before engaging in my daily mediation ritual.
While repressing my consciousness, I also began to focus on the importance of social support. I knew this shit was important but didn’t fully understand until Trish brushed my hair one night, my arms too frail from fear and stress to function. Trish and Rick played familiar Britpop, drank tea and encouraged us to embrace the therapeutic benefits of music through use of the guitar and keyboard that we had brought to their house. We took turns cooking for each other, played board games and counselled each other through each personal problems, one at a time.
Jake and I stayed with Trish and Rick for two weeks until we could establish an exit plan from the city. We migrated to rural Victoria like many other Melbournians, traumatized by the lockdown. The pace in the country was slow yet calming and people genuinely seemed to care about your welfare when they inquired “How you going, mate?” After such an extended period of social isolation, many of us forgot how to interact with others. We valued and craved human connection more than ever, and yet we seemed scared of what we might connect with. We continued to develop our own deformed version of sign language to communicate through the face masks and focused on re-developing social skills that had been lost through extended disconnection.
Jake and I continued to battle through the challenges of online identity theft and the consequences of his addiction issues. Jake’s substance use had subsided substantially without the influence of Mark and Dani and we eventually adjusted to living normal, routine driven lifestyles. He had cycled through periods of problematic use before, however I still felt somewhat shell shocked by the intensity of his most recent relapse. However, one day late in December I found myself wandering through the tranquility of the Otways, fully freed from the constraints of the lockdown which had finally lifted and contemplating my progress in life since leaving this place as a teenager. The rainforest sounds were vivid and the smells of the ocean salty in my nostrils. I wasn’t where I had planned to end the year 2020, but I was alive and I had Jake. And for that, I felt eternally grateful.

WEIRD ANIME NIGHT
guys, I’m going to level with you. I am running out of weird anime’s I have watched. I want to do these guys every week I really do....and I have a stack of VHS tapes and DVD’s downstairs to dig through that MIGHT have some more gold in them, but it would be SUPER COOL of you if you would DM me some ideas or suggestions to look into in the coming weeks and months now I said I am RUNNING OUT, that doesnt mean I’m empty. Tonight I am going to go on a tangent, and talk about one anime you dudes have LIKELY seen already MOBILE FIGHTER G GUNDAM
Tumblr media
You might say to yourself, hey Brian, that show isn’t THAT weird, gundam is a big big robot show, and that is just another cookie cutter big big robo show
BUT YOU ARE WRONG
DEAD WRONG
Tumblr media
Mobile fighter g gundam was only the 9th gundam series ever made, and the series it follows Victory gundam is considered one of the darkest in gundams canon, where kill them all Tomino really showed that he earned that name, it wasn’t gifted to him. I mean the shows about a 12 year old who, in its final act fights a giant, moon sized ring full of psychics that try to reduce humanity to animal like stupidity so that they can rule the earth, and also like…..all of his friends die. All of them, most of them children. Victory gundam is dark as shit
Tumblr media
G Gundam though? Naw, this show is like two clicks away from being a gundam skin over top of a king of braves show. I mean let me break it down like this. G gundam is about a buncha people, hired by their countries to represent them in a martial arts tournament , with giant robots that used to be used for war, but that war destroyed earth real bad, so instead they still destroy earth real bad with giant robots, but instead of war, its just a boxing match and they make it clear that this ish is bad for the earth like EVERY city is fucked, and whoever wins the tournament, their government gets to be dictators of the world and space for 4 years.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
  and its played for laughs
Tumblr media
I also want to mention for people who are passingly familiar with Gundam through things like wing or seed etc, and know that gundam has different time lines, THIS is the first alternate timeline, this is the first non UC timeline in the whole of gundam. Imagine if the last few shows were, a war drama about a 14 year old being drafted and getting ptsd, then a sequal where a child psychic also gets drafted then his parents die, then the girl he loves tries to kill him and dies, then a sequal to that where again, a ton of main characters die, then a sequal movie where two of the main characters of the entire show both die, then a show about a boy making a new friend, who turns out to be a soldier, and introducing them to his next door neighbor who turns out to be a soldier, then while trying to help his new friend, his neighbor murders him, ON CHRISTMAS, then he has to just go back to normal life because he kept all of this a secret to everyone.
Tumblr media
AFTER THAT ALL WE GET THIS
youtube
I mean it took a show that for 20 years had been a dead ass serious war drama, and turned it into well......MMA with robots and dudes (and a few ladies) in latex cat suits using magic to destroy famous land marks
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE WIKI SAYS Unlike previous series in the Gundam franchise which are set in the "Universal Century" timeline, Mobile Fighter G Gundam takes place in an alternate "Future Century" universe.[1][2] Within this timeline, much of mankind has abandoned a ruined Earth to live in space colonies. The countries on Earth have corresponding colonies just outside the planet's atmosphere. Rather than fight wars for political and social dominance, the colonies agree to hold a "Gundam Fight" tournament every four years. Each country sends to Earth a representative piloting a highly-advanced, humanoid mobile fighter called a Gundam. The Gundams compete with one another in one-on-one battles, under a strict set of rules, until only one fighter remains; the nation represented by the winner earns the right to rule all of space for that period.[2] Each Gundam is controlled directly by the user within the cockpit using the "Mobile Trace System", a gesture recognition and feedback mechanism whereby the Gundam mimics the pilot's own body motion, combat skills, and weapon-wielding capabilities.[1]G Gundam opens at the start of the 13th Gundam Fight in Future Century year 60 and follows Neo Japan's Domon Kasshu, fighter of his nation's Shining Gundam and bearer of the coveted "King of Hearts" martial arts crest.[1] Aside from winning the tournament, Domon's mission is to track down his fugitive, older brother Kyoji, who allegedly stole the experimental Dark Gundam from Neo Japan's government, leaving their mother dead and their father (Dr. Raizo Kasshu) to be arrested and placed in a cryogenic state.[3]
Tumblr media
Under orders from Major Ullube Ishikawa, Domon and his childhood friend and mechanic Rain Mikamura travel from country to country, challenging each one's Gundam while searching for clues to the whereabouts of Kyoji and the Dark Gundam.[3] Domon's initial matches with Neo America's Chibodee Crocket, Neo France's George DeSand, Neo China's Sai Sai Ci, and Neo Russia's Argo Gulskii end in draws, gaining mutual respect among the fighters.[1][2] As they encounter Gundam pilots who had come in contact with the Dark Gundam, Domon and Rain learn of its unique cellular properties to regenerate, multiply, and evolve by infecting organic matter and causing violent behavior in living things.[3] The duo then journey to Neo Tokyo, a city decimated by the Dark Gundam's army of mobile weapons. Domon reunites with his esteemed martial arts instructor Master Asia, who is also the champion of the last Gundam Fight, the former King of Hearts, and one-time leader of an elite group of Gundam fighters called the Shuffle Alliance. After Domon and Rain help the city's survivors defend their last outpost in Shinjuku, Master Asia reveals himself as a servant of the Dark Gundam, having also gained control over Chibodee, George, Sai Sai Ci, and Argo using Dark Gundam (DG) cells.[2][3] The four remaining members of the Shuffle Alliance intervene and vow to destroy their previous leader for his crimes. Ultimately, the Alliance members offer their lives in purging the DG cells from Domon's four comrades and bestow each of them with a Shuffle Alliance crest as their successors. Kyoji and the enormous Dark Gundam eventually appear from beneath the ground of Shinjuku, but shortly thereafter vanish alongside Master Asia. As the Shuffle Alliance trains in the Guiana Highlands for the Gundam Fight finals, Master Asia and the Dark Gundam reappear.[3] With the help of his friends and a new ally in Neo Germany's masked warrior Schwarz Bruder, Domon defeats the Dark Gundam. When the Shining Gundam becomes incapacitated during the battle, Domon desperately manages to activate a newly acquired God Gundam(AKA Burning Gundam outside Japan), escape Master Asia, and make his way to the finals set in Neo Hong Kong.[2][4]
Tumblr media
The Gundam Fight finals are presided over by Wong Yunfat, Neo Hong Kong's prime minister and the current ruler of the space colonies and Earth. Wong chooses to have the qualifying nations battle in one-on-one and tag team preliminary matches to reach a battle royale on Lantau Island, where the tournament is to end with the winner facing the defending champion Master Asia.[2][4] Having gained possession of the Dark Gundam, Wong secretly plots to revive and control it as his trump card to inevitably maintain his own power over space. Domon and his companions make their way to the battle royale while several truths concerning the Dark Gundam are unveiled. Rain's father, Dr. Mikamura, eventually explains that the Dark Gundam (originally called the Ultimate Gundam) was constructed by Dr. Kasshu to rejuvenate the dying Earth. Jealous of his genius colleague, Dr. Mikamura had Neo Japan's officials attempt to confiscate Kasshu's creation. To prevent the military from using his father's invention for its own agenda, Kyoji fled with and crash landed the Gundam on Earth, where its computer malfunctioned, triggering its malevolent activity. Ullube subsequently had Dr. Kasshu arrested, framed Kyoji as a criminal, and used Domon and Rain as pawns in recovering the Gundam.[4] In a separate confession, Master Asia discloses to Domon that, having been distressed by the utter destruction wrought by the Gundam Fights, he planned to use the Dark Gundam to wipe out humanity and allow Earth to heal naturally.[2] The battle on Lantau Island culminates with Domon fatally besting Master Asia in a final confrontation, while Kyoji and Schwarz sacrifice themselves so that Domon can attack the Dark Gundam's cockpit and disable it once again.[4] Though the schemes of both Wong and Master Asia are foiled, Ullube quietly claims the Dark Gundam and transports it to Neo Japan's space colony for his own purpose. Having been corrupted by DG cells with ambitions of supreme power, Ullube kidnaps Rain and places her into the Dark Gundam's core to act as its energy source. The hulking monstrosity then merges with the colony and begins absorbing Earth itself.[2] As the entire world's Gundams unite to assault the Dark Gundam from the outside, the Shuffle Alliance breaks inside the colony and destroys Ullube. Finally, Domon professes his love for Rain and releases her from the core. Invoking the power of the King of Hearts, the couple vanquishes the Dark Gundam once and for all

I just rewatched it like a month ago, its real good, def go watch it
if you are the kind of person who was maybe put off by OG gundams TONE or wing gundams edgy-ness, give g gundam a watch its honestly a good anime, its about as shonen as a shonen can legally get. Also its spiritual successor, the Build series is really good too, really liked Build Fighters Try A LOT, and I guess like.....it might be canon to this reality? its weird. Gundams weird when it comes to canonisity, its sort of all canon kinda.
∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀ ∀
Also the model kits for this show, and you knew I was going to bring up Gunpla at some point, well they come in two qualities
 AWESOME and brand new
Tumblr media
or shit and 20 years old
Tumblr media
So if you collect these things like I do…..get both kinds of their kits
They’re good.

Luck and Order - 2
The Wizard Shazam, who was once a Lord of Order, that something was amiss. The balance between luck and misfortune was in disarray. So he implores his young Champion - Billy Batson - to investigate and correct the Balance.
Set years after the series Finale of Justice League Unlimited.
FFN I AO3
---------
Holey Moley!" Billy exclaimed. "A giant baby!" He yelled. "A giant freaking baby!"
The feeling of exasperation and surprise didn't last long and Billy immediately transformed into his champion form of Captain Marvel and flew out the window to chase down the infant innocently causing massive property damage to the city
Billy had just moved in to one of Paris' apartments. He chose to move in to this apartment considering its proximity to the school where he was a part of the School Exchange program.
He had just finished unloading his clothes when he saw the giant baby.
Captain Marvel fired off a series of three balls of electricity towards the extremely oversized infant to distract the baby and to assess the situation.
The lightning based hero took a closer look at the gigantic infant that was happily flailing around with his balls of electricity when he saw that somewhere on the baby was a huge concentration of magic that was spreading outwards.
"So far he's acting like an actual baby." Captain Marvel commented. "That concentration of magic does concern me."
Before Captain Marvel was about to add another set of balls of electricity, in response to his first set flickering out, Paris' own set of heroes appeared on the scene and began to battle the gigantic infant.
He chose to hide behind one of the buildings in the city and took a closer look at the heroes.
As far as he can see, there was nothing wrong with the spotted heroine – Ladybug – her powers were unaffected by whatever was tipping the balance of creation and destruction.
The Black Cat – Chat Noir – however, he was sure that Eris – goddess of discord – even Klarion – Lord of Chaos – would squeal in glee if they saw what was happening to the hero.
Chat Noir's magic was chaotic, to say the least.
If Captain Marvel would hazard a guess, the Miraculous of the Black Cat was probably battling something inside the boy under the mask which brought upon the focus on flirting than actual combat.
----------
"I can understand Mr. Ramier getting akumatized lots of times." Ladybug huffed. "But seriously, akumatizing babies for getting upset is just a new low." She growled as she dodged a merchandising cart. "Even worse, akumatizing the same baby."
"I meow right milady." Chat Noir agreed. "Why don't we just adopt the baby?" He offered. "And we'll be one happy family with kitten August." He cooed.
"Focus Chat." Ladybug called out in exasperation.
The 'battle' with the giant baby went on with failing results. This was mostly due to Chat Noir's focus, or lack thereof, on the battle at hand against the akuma, but rather on his partner.
Ladybug was forced to carry everything on her own.
She was forced to adapt instead of initiate.
"We're getting nowhere!" Ladybug growled.
"I furry much agree milady." Chat nodded. "I can't woo you purropurrly if we're battling a giant baby." He pouted. "We should just destroy the Akuma." He suggested. "It's purrobably on that pacifier."
Ladybug rolled her eyes but took note of her partner's suggestion and took a closer look at the baby, and indeed the rather small pacifier right by the baby's neck was sticking out.
"Cataclysm!" Chat called out as black magic coated his right hand.
The Black Cat hero leapt from roof to roof and dodged the flying cars that the baby was throwing his way.
"W-wait!" Ladybug called out. "I said wait!
"Don't worry milady." Chat yelled out his assurance. "Once the akumatized object, you can have me all to yourself."
Chat's inattentiveness caused him to be slammed upon the roof of an airborne car and disintegrated it when he magic-coated hands made contact with the vehicle.
Ladybug had half the mind to chide her partner for his inattentiveness and lack of focus but she opted to focus on the Akuma, splashing waters by the river.
"Lucky Charm!" The spotted heroine called out.
A swarm of magical ladybugs congregated above Ladybug and conjured a spotted red lightning bolt that landed on Ladybug's waiting hands.
The heroine's first instinct was to look around her immediate surroundings and see if she could form a plan from the Lucky Charm that was conjured by her powers.
But she couldn't find nothing.
Ladybug continued to look formulate a plan as she dodged the incoming projectiles.
----------
"Looks like that's my cue." Captain Marvel murmured to himself as he observed the ensuing battle.
The world's mightiest mortal flew into the scene and caught three flying cars along the way.
"Ladybug, what's going on?" Captain Marvel asked as he faced the heroic duo.
"Who're you supposed to be?" Chat Noir challenged. "Milady has already retired the other Miraculous heroes." He hissed.
"No time to explain Chat Noir." Marvel shook his head as he fired an electric ball at the infant, distracting it.
Ladybug on the other hand stared intently on the new arrival as noticed the similarities between the new hero's emblem to the Lucky Charm she summoned.
"I'm sure he can explain once we capture the Akuma." Ladybug reined in her partner. "Basically something transformed a baby into that giant." She explained while dodging a flying cart. "That something is located on the baby's pacifier by his neck."
"That's where the concentration of magic's coming from!" Captain Marvel exclaimed. "Leave that to me." He assured as he flew towards the baby.
"Be careful not to hurt the baby." Ladybug reminded.
"Will do!" Captain Marvel acknowledged. "I need a distraction."
"Kitty, we're up." Ladybug called out. "Let's cause a scene."
"As you wish milady." Chat obliged, bowing before his partner.
As Paris's heroic duo gathered the cars and trucks that the citizens of Paris vacated in light of the Akuma problem, Captain Marvel tried different things to destroy the pacifier without hurting the toddler that was wearing it.
The World's Mightiest Mortal powered down his strikes, but the pacifier infused by magic was hard to break.
"You don't need to hold back!" Ladybug stated as she passed by the lightning hero, swinging from roof to roof. "The Miraculous cure heals everyone and anyone hurt by this Akuma attack."
Captain Marvel nodded gathered electrical energy around his fists as the baby continued to play around the water of Siene River. He grabbed the hanging pacifier and instantly disintegrated it with his electrified hands.
A purple colored butterfly flew out of the pacifier as the baby was coated in purple ooze and transformed back into its regular size in mid-air.
Captain Marvel flawlessly caught the baby and cooed at him.
Ladybug on the other hand managed to capture the Akuma purified it.
"Bye bye little butterfly." The spotted heroine smiled as she waved at the white butterfly flying from her yoyo.
"Miraculous Ladybug!" Ladybug yelled as she threw the lightning emblem lucky charm she received earlier above her.
Magical Ladybugs began to disperse from the Lucky Charm and return everything to the state before the Akuma attacked.
"Okay Mister show off, who are you?" Chat Noir challenged.
The black cat hero was eyeing the new hero, threatened by the new arrival's presence.
"Chat! Show some respect to the person who helped us." Ladybug chided. "But with all due respect sir, we kind of like answers."
"Your kwamis can provide you with answers." Captain Marvel responded. "I'm Captain Marvel this world's champion of magic."
Before both heroes could even respond to Captain Marvel's words, their Miraculouses started beeping.
"Go on." Captain Marvel nodded. "Your kwamis will know how to find me."
"Well then, bug out." Ladybug and Chat Noir Left the scene.
----------
As Captain Marvel hovered over the city and watched as both heroes scrambled before they transformed back into their civilian forms. He just realized that he was able to communicate with the local heroes despite the fact that he doesn't know even a lick of French.
"I knew the Wisdom of Solomon could help me learn a new language." Captain Marvel muttered. "Didn't know it'd be instantaneous."
Before the World's Mightiest Mortal could even process further what was happening, a few reporters had called for his attention.
"Sir! We would like a word!"
Captain Marvel hovered down to the street and meet with the local media.
"Yes? What can I do for you?" Marvel smiled, remaining amicable to field reporters.
"Are you Paris's new hero?" One lady questioned.
"Do you wield a Miraculous?" A man added.
"Do you have any leads about Hawkmoth?" Another lady asked.
Some more questions were unheard of as all them were speaking over another. Captain Marvel raised his hand in a stopping motion, signaling for the local media to calm down and ask their questions one after another.
"Sir! Alya Cesaire!" A young girl immediately raised her hand. "You're Captain Marvel, Fawcett City's local hero." She started. "You left the Justice League a few months into your membership." She added. "Is there anything in Paris that warranted your attention?"
"Paris's situation has been ignored by the Justice League for a long time." Marvel answered honestly. "Although I cannot fault them as some of them believe that magic does not exist and will likely think that everything that's happened in Paris so far as a big prank." He continued. "Ladybug's powers of removing the damage done in the battle, it makes sense to think that everything was done with special effects."
Captain Marvel, while not resentful for his bout with Superman, was still hurt that the hero he idolized so much disregarded his opinion on the matter and let his biases control him. This was his way of calling out the Justice League but at the same time defending them.
After all the Flash once stated that magic didn't exist.
"Why now?" Alya followed up.
"I'm here because the balance has shifted." Captain Marvel responded. "The Activation of both the Moth and the Peacock Miraculous has shifted the balance, to counteract the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous were activated." He explained. "What exactly has thrown the balance, as other might say, out of whack, that is what I'm here to find out." He finished.
Once he finished stating his answers, he immediately flew away from the scene.

Tumblr media
“I have a bad feeling about this mission” you shared your worries in a whisper “and it’s not because tomorrow is Steve’s birthday and don’t have a present yet”
Currently, you were sitting between Natasha and Wanda in the debriefing room while Fury explained what consisted your mission on. At first look, the HYDRA base looked like it was abandoned, but, why would they build one in the middle of nowhere surrounded by mountains and leafy forest to abandon it? It makes no sense.
“How is that so?” Natasha leaned in to whisper to you.
“Look at the location” You whispered back without tearing your eyes from the screen in front of you. “The tall mountains are perfect for area look-outs. The forest is also perfect to catch by surprise any offensive groups”
“I agree” Natasha nodded “No one puts too much effort in their defenses to throw them away when they get tired of the location”
“I bet fifty it’s an underground base” you turned to look at your friend
“Fifty more they’re waiting for us” Natasha agree with a smirk
“I bet fifty too” Wanda joined tapping your right shoulder to gain your attention “That we are outnumbered,” She said when you leaned closer to her.
“Ladies” You heard your boyfriend Steve whisper placing his head between Natasha and you “stop betting and pay attention” you turned around as he leaned back in his seat and watched how he bet with Sam and Bucky.
“Says who?” you raised an eyebrow at them.
“You saw nothing,” Bucky said while Pietro and he placed their index finger in front of their lips. Shaking your looks you turned your attention back to Fury who was about to wrap up the meeting.
“That would be all. Any questions?” Fury asked looking at each one of you “Yes?” He motioned for you to talk when you eagerly raised your hand.
“Is it okay if I bring my dog?” If you were going to be outnumbered anyway, better bring more help right?
“I don’t see why not” Nick nodded making you smile and clapped his hands “Now go away, try not to die and bring me those files”
“yes sir,” you all said each one of you leaving the room, Steve waiting for you outside to walk with you.
“What was that important that you girls couldn't wait to bet about?” Steve asked falling into step with you.
“I could ask the exact same, captain” you looked up to him with a questioning gaze. He looked at you for a second then sighed giving in.
“We were betting on if the elevator would go up or no with Mjolnir inside” He clarified pressing the call for the elevator.
You turned your attention to your boyfriend who was deep in thought and biting his lip and hands on his hips when he didn’t answer if he knew where was your four-legged friend.
“Babe” you giggled when Steve hummed as if he just realized you were there right now, “I asked you if you have seen Anubis somewhere”
“Oh no” He shook his head “I haven’t seen him. So, I was wondering” Steve placed his hands on your hips to drag you closer to him. “I got no plans tomorrow night, you got no plans tomorrow night” you hummed in agreement lacing your fingers at the back of his neck arms around his neck to bring him closer to you “What do you say we do something special?” He nudged his nose with yours before resting his forehead against yours.
Steve was about to kiss you, he only got to brush your lips with his, when the elevator dinged and something collided with him sending him to the floor. It was Anubis, the Doberman that accompanies you everywhere, who started licking all over Steve’s face, not leaving any room for him to move.
“H-Hey, bud!” The supersoldier said between giggles trying to break free to no avail “Come, on. Stop”
“Anubis!” you squealed happily grabbing the dog’s attention. You positioned a leg slightly forward than the other so he could jump. You gave your dog a hug when he placed his front legs on your shoulders and when you let go he sat in front of you and barked happily. “Ready to go on a mission?” you asked the Doberman and he replied with another happy bark. Happily, you help your boyfriend off the floor and together went to get ready for the mission.
Tumblr media
The Quinjet was filled with different conversations. Clint was at the controls with Natasha next to him. Steve, you, with Anubis between your legs, and Tony were sitting in the three seats behind them, and all of you were discussing last-minute details of your escape plan. Bucky, Sam, and Thor were discussing the properties of the Asgardian liquor and its effects and Bruce was in the last row of seats along with Wanda, Pietro, and Vision, trying to explain them a complex application of the biomedical advances. Everyone was immersed in their own conversation.
“I’m curious” Tony suddenly spoke, from your right shifting in his seat so he was facing you, when he heard the conversation Thor was having behind him,  “How much alcohol do you need to drink so you would get drunk?”
“Well it depends” you started explaining turning to Tony “For a goddess or god, like my kind usually takes five liquor stores or two whole breweries”
“Lady Y/N” Thor joined the conversation leaning forward in his seat “Do you have any kind of liquor in Dvasia?”
“Like Asgardian liquor?” you wondered turning your head to look at the blonde god and he nodded “Yeah, we have to kinds. There’s the Nectar, that works like human alcohol in minor gods, goddesses, and angels and makes a god or goddess, like my kind, lose the perception of time the more you drink. And there’s the Elixir, this is a harder liquor, and a lot stronger than the Asgardian liquor. Gods usually bet on how many shots will take a god before they blackout”
“That seems fun. Is there any record set?” Thor asked eagerly very keen on how the conversation turned.
“Yeah, Leth was the one who took the most shots. Ten shots. He didn’t wake up for two centuries” Thor and you let out a full laugh “Well, that’s not a very good record considering he spends most of the time drunk.”
“He seems like a cool guy” Tony nodded in approval “What is he like when he’s sober?”
“Not that cool” you sighed “Last time he was sober he destroyed the necromancers’ kingdom and the first magic war between the seven kingdoms started. One of the worst dark periods of Dvasia.”
“Oh, well, better not invite Doctor Jekill to any party” Tony joked “This information was very useful, but that’s not what I asked you” he smirked at you.
“How much do you have to drink to get drunk?” Natasha repeated the question making an exaggerated emphasis on the word you.
“I won’t give any kind of information you could use against me” you leaned on your seat closing your eyes.
“Steve?” Sam asked his friend sticking his head between both of your seats “How many drinks did you have to buy her until she agreed to go on a date with you?”
“Nah Sam, he would have ended up broke, and he’s not Al Capone” Bucky chimed in “The punk tricked her somehow but not with alcohol, he’s too old to go to those called night pubs” the ex-assassin frowned at his friend.
“Shut up jerk” Steve groaned rolling his eyes “I didn’t trick her, okay?” he raised a hand almost smacking Sam in the face.
“Y/N?” Sam tapped your arm “Did you charm him?” he raised an eyebrow at you with a smirk. “Seriously, you could have charmed someone younger”
“Of course I didn’t!” You protested turning to face Sam completely. You rolled your eyes when Bucky raised another eyebrow at you “I have a lot of powers but making someone fall for me is not one of them”
“Then, how do you explain that lovestruck face?” Bucky pointed to his friend.
“Lovestruck? I thought that was his stupid face, Hey!” Sam rubbed the back of his head when Steve smacked him.
“To be honest” you questioned “I don’t know what he saw in me” you frowned focusing on the landscape ahead.
“Are you serious right now?” Steve turned to you dumbfounded.
“Guys thirty minutes to jump” Clint’s voice cut everyone “we’re almost there”
“We should start getting ready” Natasha commanded unbuckling her safety belt and stood up. In seconds the Quinjet was filled with movement.
“This conversation is not over” Steve pointed a finger at you making you chuckle at his frown, before kissing you softly.
“I think I’m gonna throw up” Sam made gagging noises earning him a punch from Natasha and Wanda and a bark from Anubis.
Tumblr media
Once everyone was ready and Clint announced there were only ten minutes left, you still felt uneasy and couldn’t stop fidgeting with your hands. You have been on plenty of missions. But, the one at hand is supposed to be an inside-out, although it screamed danger. Anubis whine startled you from your train of thoughts.
“What’s wrong?” Bucky asked placing a reassuring hand on your shoulder, he could recognize the fear in your eyes.
“I don’t know” You let out a nervous breath “but I have a bad feeling about this mission” you shared your worries fidgeting with your necklace.
“How is that so?” Pietro asked frowning tilting his head to look at you.
“I can’t quite pinpoint it” You took a step back unclasping you luck charm from your neck “But I think something dangerous is waiting for us”
“Come on, Y/N/N, we have two gods on our side” he pointed at Thor and himself with a smirk “What could possibly go wrong?” Tony tried to reassure you with a joke but didn’t make any difference
Shaking a bit your head you looked at the charm in the palm of your right hand. The golden pendant that looked a medium-sized medallion had two figures on the opposite sides of it representing the bad and good luck. As the goddess of balance, when you were in doubt of what the world needed from you, or simply to know if the odds were in your favor or not, you would spin your luck charm with your magic and the side that shows may be the fate.
“We also have a birdman and a doggo” Tony added “I don’t know what Clint is doing here, though”
“Moral support?” Clint tried to joke turning around to take a look at you all with a shrug.
You sent him a small smile and focused completely on the charm in the palm of your right hand.
“We have Y/N/N for that” Natasha teased him moving to stand on your right “She’s a goddess after all” Wanda added with a smirk standing behind you, making the man turned to focus back on the controls muttering something around the lines of ‘I don’t know why I bother’
“Twenty seconds to jump” Clint announced pressing some buttons.
Extending the hand holding the pendant and blowing some golden dust towards it, it began to spin in your palm.
“Ten seconds” He called again activating the autopilot and opening the doors.
Something was very wrong the pendant should have stopped spinning seconds ago, but it didn’t. When the final countdown began the charm stopped edgeways, almost hesitant to land on a side. At the last second, your worst fears became true.
“Bad luck” Both girls whispered with a worried look.
“I’ll watch over you” You reassured them while placing the pendant back around your neck retrieving its sun form everyone knew. “Make sure you always have Thor, Hulk or me near you”
“Good luck everyone” Vision spoke in a reassuring voice.
“We will be needing all of it” When you nodded the first team jumped.
“Safe landing” You heard Steve’s voice in the intercom next was Natasha
“On air” You heard Tony say “The perimeter is safe” that made you relax a bit, that meant that the air radar was not in use.
“Next team” Clint commanded activating the autopilot. Vision, Pietro and Bucky took a step forward “Go!” Clint shouted and they jumped off the Quinjet.
“Ready” you heard in the intercoms
“Bruce, Wanda, Sam” You commanded placing a knife on your thigh holster watching how Bruce transformed into the Hulk “you go next” you nodded Hulk smirked back at you and jumped. Sam went next saluting you before jumping backward while Wanda nodded back with a smile and fly down.
“The best team is ready” You heard Sam joke
“Thor, Anubis, Y/N” Clint turned in his seat “You ready?”
“We are ready” Thor nodded picking Anubis, who barked and held Mjolnir in the other. You nodded patting his bicep and went off with a smile.
“Clint?” you asked your friend and he stood up to give you his full attention “Watch our backs and don’t fly too away”
“Good luck” he nodded with a confident smile.
“We will be needing all of it” after that, you were down in the woods in a second, landing gracefully. “Nat, Pietro, Wanda. I’m right behind you” You looked up to the sky and saw Sam fly above you and saluted him.
“Okay team” Tony spoke “ready to kick some asses?” Tony asked rather cheerfully.
Tumblr media
As you all expected, nearing the base was easy and didn’t require many bullets. Just blow up a couple of wagons, headed towards each group that you detected, thanks to the three golden snakes you cast and sent underground in the direction of each group. They also allowed you to sense any ground vibrations confirming that the compound was, in fact, an underground base.
You were currently inside the building, in the second basement, hiding with Natasha and the twins in one of the corridors you cleared. The only source of light you had where the emergency lights in each corridor because in order to get inside you had to cut the power.
“There are three archives. One is on the north side, second basement where we are” Natasha whispered “The second is on the west side, third basement, where Cap’s group is, and the last one, on the east side first basement where Tony’s group is”
“Nat give me your gun” She handed you her guns and you replaced the bullets in one of the comprising some energy into them and creating some blasts and returned them “In case something goes wrong” you handed Wanda one of your bracelets that will allow them to create a protective barrier or go invisible. “Guys wait a second I’m going to clear the corridors”
“I got your back” Natasha agreed standing next to you
You rounded the corner and started walking down the corridor using the shadows to hide your form, even though your tactic gear was similar to Nat’s. In a second, five men twice your size, were in front of you pointing their rifles at you. With your powers you twisted the barrels, so they were pointing to each of the men before they shot killing each other.
You heard Nat firing her guns behind you towards the other end of the corridor and picked one of the guns straightening the barrel back when the noise alerted another ten men that rounded the corner at the end, but you fought them easily, using the stock of the gun as help. Running to the end of the corridor, you crouched down sliding through the floor. In a fluid motion, you pointed to your left killing three agents standing there twisting your body to stand up and pointed to your right killing the last two agents standing there.
“Clear” Natasha and you shouted together “Second basement clear” Wanda spoke walking up to you.
“We need back up” You heard Bucky speak in the intercom.
“I’m going to help the others” You announced to the three of them.
“Okay we take it from here” Natasha nodded.
“Bucky” You spoke retreating back from the corridor you just cleared to the end of it and turned to your right teleporting your self right behind him, startling Steve in the process, who was crouched in front of him, protecting both of them with the shield. “Back up is here” you spoke standing side to side with Bucky and started firing taking down the agents that came towards you. The last agent managed to avoid the bullets and stood in front of you.
“Not today,” you said you said sending him to Morpheus arms’ by hitting him in the temple with your gun’s stock.
“I’m out of bullets,” Bucky said taking out the magazine.
“Give me that” You held your hand to him and Bucky handed you the empty magazine. You held it between both of your hands and concentrated your energy in it filling the magazine with yellow energy. “That should last even for two more missions”
“Energy blasts?” Bucky smirked placing the object back in the gun.
“Energy blasts” you smirked back but it instantly fell when you felt an explosion above you, near Tony’s group position. “Tony? What was that?” you asked pressing the intercom more to your ear. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, Y/N,” Tony said out of breath “We’re fantastic. Just broke through a wall and are inside the archive”
“We’ve got data from the second basement” You heard Natasha inform “We are ready”
“The outside is clear” you heard Sam shout in the intercoms.
“We are about to get inside the archive,” Steve said nodding towards you.
Bucky readied himself while you balled your fist and light them with fire creating a source of light, and you both nodded back. Steve broke the lock with his shield and opened the metal door. Bucky stood at the door covering your backs in case more agents came through the corridor while you followed the blonde supersoldier inside the room, and lighted it with your fire.
“We are inside” You commented the team while Steve proceeded to turn on one of the many computers and insert the USB.
“Data is cleared from the first basement” Tony cheered on the intercom almost making you deaf.
“Third basement cleared” you called once the USB’s light turned green indicating the data has transferred correctly.
“Let’s get out of here” Steve commanded grabbing the hand that wasn’t lighted with fire and motioned to Bucky to lead the way.
You didn’t take more than two steps when the red alarm lights lighted up and the metal door banged locking the three of you inside the room.
“Guys, what’s going on?” Pietro asked on the intercom.
“I think we are locked inside the rooms” Tony explained.
“No shit sherlock” Steve retorted making you slap his arm.
“Retrieving the data from the computers might have started the emergency protocol” Natasha guessed.
“Tell me it’s not the self-destruction code” you feared when there was a harsh shake making you three loose balance.
“Guys, you have to get out of there right now” Sam commanded “The building is going to crumble down”
“All right I’m gonna get you out of here right now,” You kneeling on one knee to place a hand on the ground.
You closed your eyes to focus on calling the snakes you cast earlier, making them the size of a train, and making sure each one went to the locations were the three groups were located. After some seconds, the head of a golden snake broke one of the walls of the room.
“What the fuck is that?” Steve, Tony, and Pietro asked bewildered
“Our way out” You simply said nearing the golden snake and petted it. In return, it opened its mouth “come on, get inside”
“The fuck, are you nuts?” Tony screamed.
“Oi, come on Stark!” you laughed “Big bad Tony is scared of a snake?” you asked feeling the building shake violently “we don’t have time get inside!” you commanded. Steve and Bucky reluctantly got inside the snake’s mouth.
“I could use a little hand out here” Thor’s voice boomed on the intercome “The building is surrounded by a HYDRA army” Vision added.
“What are you doing?” Steve screamed at you when you didn’t get inside
“Trust me” you simply said “as soon as you all get out of the snake, start firing okay you commanded” They all agreed except Bucky and Steve, and you sent the other two golden snakes outside.
“What are you going to do?” Steve queried taking a step towards you, but you stopped him with a kiss.
“There’s no time for explanations, just trust me, okay?” you asked softly when you pulled apart. Your boyfriend nodded reluctantly taking a step back. You then nodded at Bucky confidently who returned it just as confident
The last thing Steve saw where your shining golden eyes, and your from being engulfed by the debris, before the snake’s jaw closed and led them outside.
Tumblr media
Steve was worried sick. Even though you tried to reassure him, he couldn’t help it. He lost too many people, and he wasn’t sure if could bear losing the best thing that happened to him since Peggy. But he trusted you, and the smile you sent him before the snake brought him and Bucky safely outside, meant that you had an ace under your sleeve. Still, he was worried. It has been a minute since everyone started fighting outside, on the north and the south sides of the crumbling building, and still, there was no sight of you. Suddenly there was an explosion and something broke free from the inside, leaving the area covered in dust.
“What was that?” Steve asked looking up to the sky trying to see something through the dust, to no avail, while the Hulk kept smashing agents and tanks
“I can not recognize it” Vision spoke analyzing the new situation “It is to fast to be identified, but I can guess it’s humanlike”
The men in front of the half of the team stopped firing when the heard a loud screech coming from the south area.
“What the fuck was that?” Clint trailed off looking at each of his teammates.
“I have no idea” Natasha answered him.
The dust cleared a bit to let everyone recognize Sam, Tony, and Wanda flying towards them. Thor landed between Steve and Bucky placing Anubis back in the floor.
“What the fuck” Pietro gasped making everyone turn to look at what he was looking.
In a second, Steve recognized it was you who was walking out of the crumbling building behind you as if nothing happened. But you looked different. Instead of the black and navy blue tactic gear you were wearing moments ago, you wearing a golden and crimson gown that left nothing to the imagination; rings bracelets, and necklaces adorning your tanned skin a brown cape floating behind you, as well as your loose Y/H/C mane that shone goldenly. What stuck out the most were your eyes that shone every color and your red lips.
Tumblr media
With a firm step, you walked up to them, sending a wink to Steve when you walked past him, making him blush, Anubis following you walking on your right. Once you both were standing between the Avengers and the HYDRA army you stopped. You heard the men moving, and all the guns were pointing at you in a second. Anubis moved to stand himself in front of you and started barking startling everyone.
You knew what was coming next. As the guns were still up, the Doberman’s barks turned more aggressive making his eyes start shining red, and before any gun was fired, Anubis opened his jaws unleashing a mess of tentacles that circled all the army, and gobbled them up as if nothing happened. Crouching down, your four-legged friend run to you licking your face while you patted his back. After a moment, you stood up and turned to look at your friends, who had different reactions plastered on his faces.
“That was creepy” Natasha was the first one speaking pointing a finger to the dog “but I still like him” she added making Anubis let a happy bark.
“Did he… just…” Bucky was pointing to the dog with a look you couldn’t quite decipher. It was a mix of horror and bewilderment. He placed both of his hands in front of his mouth and gestured with them imitating an octopus, making you chuckle.
“Yeah” you smiled looking down at your friend “He’s a special kind of dog from Dvasia. They are famous for the mess of tendrils kept within their mouths. Some of the sprouted tendrils host a nest of fanged and ravenous maws which can bite down on and gobble up just about… anything” you explained to them as best as you could.
“Like an army of bad guys,” Thor nodded proudly “Exactly”
Anubis walked up to Thor and sat in front of him with an innocent look. Nudging his leg to be petted he laid down in front of him gibbing the blonde god the puppy eyes, who immediately crouched down to pet him. Anubis the run to the Maximof twins who also petted the dog happily. Vision also patted awkwardly his head when Wanda placed his hand on the dog’s head. Anubis the ran to Hulk to lick his big green hand what made the big guy chuckle.
“That sounds disgusting” Sam commented making a disgusted face. “And looks disgusting” He added. The happy dog ran towards Steve, startling him and sending him to the floor to start licking at his face again.
“Okay, buddy calm down. We’re still friends” The blonde supersoldier chuckled and the Doberman let go of Steve and went up to Bucky, laying down in front of him.
Anubis whined when his metal armed friend didn’t make a move to pet him and nudged his leg with his head. Bucky seemed glued to the spot just looking intently at the dog, trying to take everything that happened in less than a second in. He relaxed a bit when Anubis moved so Bucky’s metal hand was on his head and barked happily.
“Give me a moment, bud” Bucky reassured the dog with a chuckle “That was creepy as hell” the soldier scratched behind his ears Anubis barking again. “It was cool, but scary dude.” Bucky laughed he jumped to lick his face like he always did. “Yeah, yeah. You’re a big doggo”
You walked up to your boyfriend to help him stand up, while the others were busy with the dog. Steve seemed glued to the spot and couldn’t take his eyes off of you.
“Is this your true form?” the captain asked quietly “You look… okay… I MEAN…” He stammered motioning to your form with his hands trying to find the best words making you chuckle.
“Yes, it is my true form” you smiled at him “Do you like it?”
“I love it” Your boyfriend smiled but then he frowned “How come no one is commenting on it?” Steve asked curiously.
“It’s because only some can see it” you explained “When there’s a golden glow around me only other gods, goddesses, angels or those who share a special bond with me can see my true form. Right now, only you and Thor can see my true form”
“I understand” Steve noded “I like your eyes, though. They shine different colors” He complimented making you blush.
“Thanks,” you said looking down shily, but Steve placed a finger under your chin to bring your face up so you were looking at him. Once your eyes locked he took the moment to kiss you passionately.
“OH NO!” Sam’s shout startled you making you break the kiss and turn to look at him. He was backing away from Anubis who was looking at Sam intently. “I know that look. Don’t” Sam commanded taking another step back pointing a finger to the dog “Stay put!” Anubis simply stood in for legs ears perked up. In a second he launched towards Sam who started running away as soon as the dog made a move.
“I’M ABOUT TO GO SAMURAI JACK ON YOUR ASS!” Sam shouted running as fast as he could “I’M ABOUT TO GO SAMURAI JACK ON YOUR ASSES!” Sam shouted again, as he ran towards the woods in the direction of the Quinjet. you all started heading back too. Steve had his arm around your shoulders pressing you to his side.
“Sam?” you chimed in “Who are you talking to? Anubis, us or just me”
“ALL OF YOU!” Sam didn’t need the intercom to speak or shout. You were sure they heard him in China. “ALL OF YOU! INCLUDING AMERICA’S ASS HERE!HEY!...NO! GET OFF OF ME!... NOT IN THE FACE!” you all let out a full laugh.
“Are you going to show the others?” Steve whispered in your ear making you look at him with a frown “Your true form I mean”
“I thought you wanted to enjoy your birthday present first” you winked at him. Steve after hearing that, he placed an arm under your legs and held bridal style making you squeal and held onto his neck. Once you were holding him tightly, he hurried to Quinjet.
“What’s with the hurry?” Clint asked Natasha watching Steve and you walk faster.
“Young love, my friend” Natasha joked patting her friend's shoulder.

Amy Martinez (Character Sheet TV Tropes Style) A-E
Tumblr media
Amy Martinez is my BNHA/AHS OC!!
She is a young girl from New Orleans and a witch from Miss. Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies who transfers into UA and earned a spot in the Hero Course. She currently resides in a very lavish mansion that belonged to the former Supreme Fiona Goode, and as it turns out, Amy originally lived in Japan but her parents were murdered by witch hunters who infiltrated Japan in search of her mother. The pro-heroes, unable (and unwilling) to take care of a young witch, had her transferred and placed under the care of Fiona and the New Orleans coven, where she was later taken in by the current Supreme and her godmother Cordelia Goode. Despite her appearance, Amy is very hyperactive, eccentric and mischievous by nature, isn’t above doing immoral and wicked things and has an offbeat sense of humor that tends to be off-putting to her new classmates. However, that doesn’t mean Amy is all bad, and in fact does have a compassionate and empathetic side that comes out when shes with friends, especially her childhood friend Shinsou Hitoshi, ally Midoriya Izuku and later, her new best friend Ashlen Kyanse.
Speaking of which! Ashlen Kyanse is NOT mine, she’s my best friend @ashleigh-luvs-14cats‘s OC! :D :3
TV Tropes About Amy:
A Girl and Her Dog: She adopts a Northern Inuit Puppy that she and Ashlen name Dakota and he becomes her loyal animal companion and emotional support dog.
A God Am I: Not really, but her words to Midoriya during her rampage resembled something of a god complex (at the time at least).
Amy: You can’t beat me Izuku... One For All couldn’t defeat Fiona Goode, the reigning supreme at the time, you can’t beat me now, even with One For All, you can’t beat me either! None of you heroes can! I’m a goddamn witch!
Accidental Murder: She accidentally kills Aizawa by giving him an apple she didn’t know was poisoned and charmed to look perfectly normal by Madison. Which resulted in Madison having to bring him back to life with Vitalum Vitalis.
Action Girl: Amy is always ready for a fight, and knows HOW to fight as well as she’s proven to be a very valuable and proficient student in the Hero Course.
Adoring The Pests: A tanuki once got into the dorm building, because Amy let it in since she found it ‘adorable’ and even named him ‘Shadow’. And although Iida told her to stop feeding the tanuki’s, Amy continues to do so because she thinks they’re too cute to not feed.
Amy also states that she would feed the possums in America because she thought they were adorable.
Adorkable: Despite her many eccentricities Amy’s a dork at heart a shown through her love of singing, dancing and making silly puns, and then there’s her girlish excitement when she’s around animals and toys as well as her oddly endearing fangirl reactions to Brendon Urie, Melanie Martinez and Stevie Nicks. Further displayed whenever she dances and sings with Shinsou and Ashlen.
Affectionate Nickname: “Ames” by Kaminari, Shinsou, Ashlen and a majority of her classmates. As well as “Witch Bitch” by Bakugo, it was initially used as an insult but became his term of endearment for her.
Her ex-boyfriend Damien called her “Amzy”, albeit as a means to manipulate her.
Ashlen also fondly calls her “Witchy”.
Fiona tends to call her “Sweet Amy”
Marie Laveau also affectionately refers to her as “Baby Witch”.
All of the Other Reindeer: Much like Midoriya, Amy was picked on and teased by other kids because she and they believed that she was quirkless and mocked her for it to the point of calling her ‘Powerless/Quirkless Amy’. It backfires tremendously when Amy supposedly gains a quirk, but has to pretend it’s only a Telekinesis quirk. The kids didn’t stop picking on her, but she really didn’t bother making any other friends other than Shinsou because of the bullying.
And this even extends to other witches, while Amy found a new family in her sisters Zoe and Queenie (after Misty, Nan and Madison died) Robichaux opened up to hundreds of other witches around the country. Amy was initially ecstatic and eager to make new friends just like her, only to realize that being a witch didn’t stop other witches from bullying her and thinking she’s weird even for their standards, which just added to Amy’s evergrowing sense of loneliness.
Ambiguous Disorder: Has a crippling fear of being abandoned, extreme overreactions and outbursts (taking All-Might and Aizawa’s criticisms of her powers very strongly, screams at Midoriya over a disagreement), indulges in risky behaviors (drugs, shop-lifting, partying at college parties despise being underage), is highly impulsive (Iida has to stop her when she performs in combat too recklessly), prone to emotional meltdowns, shows can occasional lack of empathy and has unstable relationships (Bakugo, Midoriya, Aizawa, etc.). All of which are signs of Borderline Personality disorder or Bipolar Disorder, two of these Iida speculates she may have. However, some of her these behaviorisms also resemble Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder due to her inability to control her emotions, feelings of emptiness and worthlessness, and moments of hostility towards her peers to the point of avoiding her friends and relationships. And then Shachath also mentions that she tends to have regular ‘songs’ of suicide which act as a further indication that Amy might have CPTSD.
Anguished Declaration of Love: During a fit of pure rage, she fights with Midoriya but when he pins her down, her psychotic exterior breaks a little bit as she breaks down crying and tells him that she loves him. However, because of Midoriya’s insecurities and familiarity with Amy’s mischievous nature, he doesn’t believe her and yells at her to stop playing around. Needless to say, it goes all downhill for him from there...
Animal Motifs: It’s subtle but she has a fox motif as her handle online is ‘KitsuneGirl’ and she has black tips on her blonde hair, a mischievous and sneaky personality, her tendency to act as a trickster both during and out of combat, and her witchcraft and magic also alludes to the kitsune and their various magical abilities in Japanese culture.
Anti-Hero: She’s self-centered, obnoxious, aggressive and occasionally breaks every rule she wants as she believes she can make her own rules due to her powers, but this is her being a troublemaker at best as she tends to take a radical approach as a means of standing up for what she believes in: Love.
Anti-Villain: At her worst she outright sides against her class and does immoral things whether it’s stealing, murder or even attacking allies, although she has no plans to become a villain and merely indulges in her worst impulses when she’s in a bad mood and isn’t above being cruel to her own classmates should they cross her.
Arc Villain: In a way, and relatively minor. As the Culture Festival arc comes to an end, Amy’s overwhelmed by the realization of how the pro-heroes could have taken care of her but didn’t, along with being kidnapped by the villains and her and Midoriya’s dissipating relationship. It becomes too much for her to bear that she flies into an ultra-tantrum and attacks Aizawa, the other teachers and puts her classmates into a slumber (to spare them her wrath) and destroys some of UA’s property and Midoriya has to stop her. But in the end he doesn’t win, instead, Shinsou has to talk her down.
Arch Enemy: Amy has made several enemies, but of all the foes she feels a tremendous hatred towards and desire to destroy once and for all is Scathach, the wicked witch of the Roanoke forest who she aspires to kill and free all the souls she trapped in the forest.
Attention Deficit Oooh Shiny!: Amy is very, very easily distracted by things, especially if there’s a cute animal involved, music she likes is playing or if there’s food. She CAN learn to focus but it’s… a challenge.
Attention Whore: Almost always desperate for attention regardless of whether it’s positive or negative and always performs outlandish things or says bizarre things if it means having other people’s attention on HER.
She even goes so far as to sometimes wear Madison’s inappropriate undergarments in hopes that someone will flip her skirt all for the sake of attention.
The Atoner: After her brush with the apocalypse which allowed her and Mallory to go back in time to stop it, Amy realizes how cruel she was to her classmates and resolves to apologize and become a better classmate and friend to everyone. And she felt horrible when she needed to repeat history (including acting like a jerk) in the new timeline as a means to keep time flowing the way it needed to be but still lived up to promising to be better to her friends. It only gets better when Ashlen comes into her life and inspires Amy to keep living up to this promise.
Ax-Crazy: Shows a disturbingly homicidal excitement when annihilating her opponents in battle, gleefully murders when given the chance and is a little too happy when talking about horror stories that include serial killers such as the Axe Man or Twisty The Clown.
And then she goes off the deep-end once the Culture Festival ends by attacking her teacher, classmate (Midoriya), beating her other teachers with little effort and causing destruction around UA, until she’s eventually subdued by her own merit and Shinsou’s influence.
The Baby of The Bunch: She’s the youngest witch of the original coven of Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies consisting of Cordelia, Zoe, Queenie, Madison, Nan and Misty, with Cordelia being in her late 20′s at the time while the other girls were at least 17-24 while Amy was only 11. Even as she’s gotten older, her witch sisters still look after her as the ‘little sister’ of the coven.
Back From The Dead: Amy is momentarily killed and impaled by witch hunters in her first year at UA, but is revived by Misty and returns to her distraught and relieved classmates.
She dies again in her second year but by her ex-boyfriend Damien who made a deal with Papa Legba by trading her life for his own life and drowned her in a bathtub. Only to be revived by Madison.
The Bad Guy Wins: Sort of. She takes on a more villainous role after the Culture festival ends and all the stress, realizations and Midoriya’s growing impatience with her makes her go berserk. And so, Amy attacks her teacher, other teachers, causes mayhem and destruction around UA (although she does spare all of the students), knocks out her classmates so she doesn’t hurt them and then partakes in a big fight with Midoriya. However, while he manages to pin her down, Amy gets the upper hand and beats him to a bloody pulp when he ignites more fuel to her raging Sentio Compassios and although her rampage was put to an end, it’s only because she stopped herself and Shinsou (and later All-Might and Cordelia) managed to talk her down. Ultimately, Amy still defeated Midoriya and UA faced some damage from her rage, and in the end, she faced no real consequences as Cordelia urged the school to pardon her while giving them a The Reason You Suck Speech. While Amy was pardoned of the damage she caused, she ended up withdrawing with UA for several months.
Badass Adorable: Cute in appearance, generally endearing and funny with her classmates but also hella strong in combat with amazing powers that she knows how to use very well and make her opponents fear her. This is showcased during her fight with Todoroki in which she gets him to realize just how strong she is.
Badass Boast: Can’t help but go on about how awesome and powerful she is at times in battle, but at times it can also be scary when she’s angry.
Amy: You think you can control me? Is that what this is? That’s how Hero Society works doesn’t it? (bursts into laughter) You... really think you can control me? Wow... you know... this is why witch hunters emerged... they were afraid of witches and their power... you might not be a witch hunter... but the fact that you think you can control me? Is priceless... (suddenly screaming) NO ONE CAN CONTROL ME! NO ONE CAN DEFEAT ME! NO ONE CAN KILL ME, NO ONE!!!
Bad Powers, Good People: It varies on her fluctuating morality but Amy is usually a good person who has the ability to control people not unlike Shinsou’s Brainwashing, except she can actually harm them by frying their brains should they attempt to resist her.
Balloon Belly: Always has one after eating too much, which is every day. Especially when she went to Pizza Hut with Shinsou and Ashlen, much to Shinsou’s disgust and Ashlen’s amusement.
Because You Were Nice To Me: She and Shinsou became friends for this very simple but pure reason in daycare. She was just coloring and when he wanted crayons she happily gave them to him, and when he called her coloring ‘pretty’, she started following him around and vice-versa.
Similarly, her reasoning for becoming best friends with Ashlen is also simple but pure as they met online during the period where Amy stopped attending UA and isolated herself in her mansion. Amy is just as opinionated online as she is in real life, although she also loads up her feed with silly things that she likes along with stories and drawings, but Ashlen genuinely liked her content and complimented her and started talking to her. Which drew Amy closer to her until they meet up in real life and Amy is overly friendly to her, but it’s all because Ashlen was kind to her and listened to her whenever she vented.
Belligerent Sexual Tension: She and Bakugo have been bickering and fighting with each other since they first met as children and never stopped when they met again in high school, but they’re very passionately in love with each other as Amy says that he’s the one she’s truly in love with and Bakugo can’t easily let her go even if she gets on his nerves, he’s clearly in love with her.
Berserk Button: She has quite a few…
Any sexist remark is bound to set her off into a tirade but if it’s directed towards her or God forbid her female friends, she WILL hurt you.
Taking her hat (if she’s wearing it) off is a quick way to piss her off.
Taking her food, whether accidentally or intentionally, WILL provoke her into violence, if you’re a child she’ll hurt you emotionally, but if you’re her age or an adult, it’s fair game as Izuku learned the hard way.
Tampering with her possessions is a VERY fast way to piss her off into a tranquil rage as she maimed a group of college boys (that she didn’t invite) when they trashed the bottom floor of her mansion at a party.
Don’t say anything bad about Brendon Urie. She shares this with Shinsou, who both call it ‘blasphemy’.
Don’t tell her to “Shut Up”.
And don’t yell at her for that matter, although she gets more emotional and upset when yelled at rather than angry.
Frozen. Let it Go. That is all.
Not being appreciated, remembered or neglected is probably her biggest one with her least comical reaction as she’ll grow from irritated to enraged in seconds should she feel that someone is unappreciative of her, has forgotten her or neglecting her for someone else.
Don’t call her ‘stupid’, but never, ever call her ‘selfish’ or ‘crazy’, mostly because she’s self-aware plenty and hates being reminded of it.
Hurting ANY of her friends is the fastest way to get on her bad side as she will BURN you alive if you hurt her friends. If you’re lucky though, she’ll just hit you with an empty Dr. Pepper liter.
Beta Bitch: When she and Madison are together, Amy essentially becomes her right hand bitch.
Beware The Nice Ones: She’s not always sweet but is occasionally kind-hearted... until you piss her off that is... and then you’ll wish you didn’t.
Beware The Silly Ones: Very comical and extremely silly and fun-loving, but her classmates don’t underestimate her abilities or her temper as Amy becomes a force to be reckoned with in combat or when properly provoked.
Big Bad Duumvirate: She and Madison aren’t evil per se, but considered two of the nastier girls who use their magic for pranks and are even dubbed ‘The Sin Sisters’ by 1-A.
Big Sister Mentor: Despite her being older than her, Amy (17) is quite sisterly with her witch friend Coco (25), as she teaches her how to do laundry and other household chores with the help of Iida.
Big Brother Worship: In a way, Shinsou’s only eight days older than her, but Amy still regards him as like her brother and she adores him very much and believes in him the most in his quest to become a pro-hero. And was heartbroken when she had to leave him for his and her own protection to Robichaux.
She absolutely adores her adoptive witch sisters Zoe, Misty and Mallory. Zoe especially because she was the first that she instantly became closest too when they met at Robichaux, and then she became very fast friends with Misty and wanted her to come to Robichaux, so she was overjoyed when she started to live with them. Finally, she and Mallory hit it off quickly due to being close enough in age but Amy still acknowledges Mallory as her senior and looks up to her like a big sister.
Downplayed with Madison. As Amy notes that Madison was a bitch to her as well as a horrible example in New Orleans and still is, but it doesn’t stop Amy from following her bad example from time to time, as well as still showing respect to Madison because of her undeniable power and occasional acts of kindness towards her and her friends at UA.
Big Damn Heroes: During the Stain Arc, she shows up just in time to hold off Stain off to keep him from seriously harming Todoroki, Midoriya and Iida and even distracts him for a brief moment.
Big Fancy House: Amy lives in a rather large mansion, while it’s not as big as Yaoyorozu’s it’s still pretty large, spacious and glamourous. It actually belonged to Fiona, but when she died Cordelia gave it all to Amy so she could have a house upon returning to Japan.
The Big Girl: Of 2-A, despite being one of the shortest girls, she’s certainly the strongest one due to her array of powerful abilities.
Big Eater: Amy loves to eat and can clear a whole table due to her voracious appetite as she ate all the desserts in the dorm-rooms the first night, can eat a whole pizza as well as she cleared out the entire table during her’s, Shinsou’s and Ashlen’s first outing as friends and then ate dessert afterwards.
Big Sister Instinct: She took this attitude towards Kota. She wanted to bash Muscular’s head in once Midoriya knocked him out but the latter stopped her and Amy only reconsidered when she realized that Kota shouldn’t have to witness death a second time.
She’s also somewhat protective of Midoriya despite everything as she once dumped Bakugo for 2 months when she found out that he told the former to commit suicide in middle school.
She also displays this attitude towards some of her female friends especially Yaoyorozu, Ashido, Hagakure and Asui. And extends this towards classmates such as Kouda, Aoyama and Kaminari.
Likewise, she’s extremely protective of Shinsou, who she regards as like a brother to her, and Ashlen, her best friend who she also regards as like a sister to her.
Big Stupid Doodoo-head: Since Amy isn’t very mature, her insults can easily delve from vulgar to very childish such as ‘stupid-head’, ‘dum-dum’ ‘fartface’ and ‘butt-head’. Her arguments with Shinsou tend to delve into this very quickly.
Amy: I would have had him if you actually covered me stupid!
Shinsou: It’s not my fault dum-dum, you should have paid more attention. Instead of waving your magic around all over the damn place.
Amy: Yes it is! You know what? Instead of brainwashing you should wash your dumb face and your stupid mouth because stupid words keep coming out!
Shinsou: Your face is dumb and your insults are even dumber you jabbering bat.
Amy: No YOUR face is dumb and your hair looks like a rat’s butt!
Bi The Way: Amy shamelessly expresses her attraction to the same sex, is very much enamored with Yaoyorozu and goes on about how ‘beautiful’ and ‘smart’ she is. Likewise, she’s very attracted to some of her fellow witches in her coven such as Mallory and even Madison as she calls Mallory a ‘fairy goddess’ and Madison a ‘sexy bitch’. And as she received a love letter from Monoma, she believed it was from a girl and seemed pretty excited by the thought of it.
Birds Of A Feather: She and Shinsou became fast friends in their childhood due to similar senses of humor and then when Amy discovers her witch powers and she found out she could control people just like Shinsou. Even as they grew up and reunited they still share things in common such as witty, sly and clever personalities and tastes in music.
She and Bakugo of all people discover that they have a lot more in common than they thought once they started bonding and it shows through their fierce tempers, desire to prove themselves, unwillingness to show weaknesses and somewhat abrasive tendencies for that matter. This is despite Amy and Bakugo trying to claim that they’re ‘night and day’, nobody buys it.
This is also how and why she became fast friends with Ashlen via internet, while they didn’t meet each other face-to-face yet, they bonded over similar tastes in music, movies and penchant for puns. Although their personalities are drastically different when they DO meet face-to-face their friendship doesn’t deteriorate as they still get along and still share those things in common and indulge in their pillow talk just like any best friends.
Blackmail: Not at first, but when she gets angry at Aizawa she starts making constant threats to tell Cordelia on him for menial things as a means to get him to buckle due to his fear of the Supreme.
Blessed With Suck: Sort of. Amy loves having all of her powers, but Sentio Compassios, her unique power, tends to leave her emotionally exhausted whenever she uses it too much, and she can feel everyone’s pain and feelings if they are strong enough and Amy becomes instantly affected by them, which she says is not always pleasant since it’s something she can’t quite turn off.
Blood Knight: Amy is VERY eager to fight and spar with her friends because it gives her free reign to use her magic and overall just enjoys the thrill of it all.
Blue and Orange Morality: In a way, due to being a witch and coming from a more neutral side rather than the Heroes or Villains side as Amy would rather be supportive of others’ impulses and desires than operate on a normal morality the heroes follow. For example, she’s fine with Madison wanting to kill Aizawa, but is offended by Mineta’s perverted antics, and she was also perfectly okay with Shinsou talking smack about Tokoyami (their own classmate and her friend) but crossed the line at Bakugo dissing Brendon Urie.
Book Dumb: She’s not the best student, but managed to score relatively high in exams as she ranked 11th out of the 21 students at the time. However, Amy is obviously not stupid despite showing some naivete and is in fact quite crafty, just not motivated in school or homework as she frequently needs her friends such as Shinsou, Midoriya, Ashlen and Bakugo to help her.
Boomerang Bigot: Despite occasionally boasting about how witches are superior to normal humans with quirks, at the same time even she’s exasperated by other witches as she often says “other witches are bitches”, although is partially due to the fact that she’s had the misfortune of meeting other witches her age who are just as exclusive and snobbish as the kids she grew up with who picked on her for her lack of a quirk. And then it increases when she meets two other witches (Blair and Laura) in Japan who are somehow WORSE than her as they mock her friends and Amy quickly fights them off.
Bratty Teenage Daughter: Certainly, acts the part at times whether she’s putting up a whining fuss or showing an apathy towards things, especially towards Aizawa and Iida, the former who acts somewhat fatherly towards her and the latter who acts like an older brother towards her. It helps that she’s Cordelia’s goddaughter and she treats her with respect but has little towards the former two.
Amy: Oh Ms. Cordelia I love you! Mr. Aizawa I hate you! Hitoshi I need you! Katsuki, hey fuck you!
Brilliant But Lazy: She’s a powerful witch, knows many spells, potions and is very talented with magic and knows how to creatively use it in combat but has zero motivation in working and academics and would rather rely on her magic to do all the work for her or simply use it to cheat off of her more academically inclined classmates.
Broken Bird: Watching her mother being burnt to the stake, her father being lynched and finding her puppy killed by the witch hunters shattered her innocence. And then her experience in New Orleans added to the tragedies as she still felt hunted and hated by the same witch hunters as she was forced her to watch even more people get killed, including new friends and family such as Nan, Misty, Madison, Zoe and Myrtle. Although some of them got better, Amy was still traumatized by watching her new family all get killed, and then Fiona’s intention to kill her and every other one of her new sisters and her new godmother completely broke her. While the coven was able to restore itself and Amy emerged as a strong young witch, the events still broke her and she follows her sister’s example to avoid looking like she’s broken and instead forces herself to maintain an excitable and cheerful façade as a means to convince herself that the events didn’t break her and instead made her stronger.
Brooding Boy Gentle Girl: She’s the Gentle Girl to Todoroki’s Brooding Boy despite not being together, but they are good friends as Amy’s oddly sweet nature can encourage Todoroki to be a little more outgoing.
Likewise with her and Bakugo as she’s often gentler than he is when it comes to expressing affection and sympathy while Bakugo just angrily broods. However, they can reverse the roles at times where Amy is bitterly sulking and Bakugo shows his softer side by attempting to comfort her.
Brutal Honesty: Amy is outspoken by nature and won’t hesitate to tell someone how it is or how she’s feeling, however she’s fully aware of how it can hurt people’s feelings, she just doesn’t care if it does. However, she CAN and WILL hold her tongue depending on who it is she’s talking to and depending on the situation she does know when to be more sensitive and delicate.
Bully Hunter: While not the nicest girl in the world, Amy really doesn’t care for bullies as she defended Shinsou from bullies when they were growing up and even first met Bakugo by pantsing and pushing him to the ground when he was bullying Midoriya, and also tells off bitchier witches whenever they taunt Coco for her naivete.
In fact, she hates bullies so much that she dumped Bakugo for several months when Madison told her that he told Midoriya to jump off the school roof in middle school and said that she couldn’t be with a bully.
Amy also attacks some nastier girls at the mall when they look at Ashlen funny.
Bunny-Ears Lawyer: She’s an oddball, by and far, but she’s a very skilled witch in and out of combat, shows a cunning side and is very knowledgeable in politics, sociology and human relationships.
Shinsou even imagined her as his lawyer during a nightmare he had.
Burn The Witch!: Nearly suffers this fate as a child right after watching her mother get burnt until All-Might and the pro-heroes save her just before they can light her up.
Calling The Old Man Out: Despite not being her father, she calls out Aizawa for being an unfair teacher to his past students and for not taking her in when he could have after her parents died since nothing stopped him and the other UA staff teachers from adopting Eri, but allowed Amy to be shipped off to America with people who ended up indirectly exposing her to even more bloodshed that further traumatized her. She also chides him by saying that he’s not good at even looking after his other students and calls him ‘the wrong person’ to look over anyone.
Cannot Keep a Secret: While she CAN keep an important secret, she deliberately at times tells some secrets as she freely blabs whatever secret she’s supposed to be keeping or should keep a secret for the sake of not embarrassing her friends.
Amy: Sorry I woulda arrived earlier but Hitoshi had some really bad jock itch so I made sure he was feeling okay after.
Can’t Take Criticism: Amy CAN take some criticism, but at the same time she can’t take certain criticism, particularly about her character and actions.Any criticism or disapproval she gets, often irritates her because she takes it all very harshly.
The Caretaker: Shinsou and Ashlen are normally the ones looking after her, but Amy can easily return the favor when they’re upset. As whenever Shinsou is depressed and feeling low, Amy opts to take care and look after him by giving him space, a “Happiness” kit of junk food and caffeine, and a playlist for sadness and anxiety. Likewise, Amy is more than happy to take care of Ashlen whenever she is distraught as she stays with her the entire day, gives her tender, love and care and also gives her ice-cream to add to the comfort while also showing her some of her favorite movies or shows like Friends, The Office and Brooklyn 99.
Catchphrase: Has a habit of cheerfully saying “Oh Mylanta~!” and asking “So what’s the T Christine?”
And her favorite way of describing something unappealing is calling it “a bag of dicks”.
Character Development: During her first year at UA she had no true intention of becoming the hero Japan’s society would have wanted her to be and had no real desire to be a team-player with her classmates and only wanted to return to Shinsou, however, she grew to really like her new friends and changed her attitude and became a lot friendlier to the point of opening up and sharing her wealth with everyone and going out of her way to provide them laughter and entertainment. She did relapse into insanity for a while and had to quit UA for a short time, but still managed to slowly overcome this because of her friend’s influence. And by the beginning of her second year, she’s on better terms with her classmates and becomes increasingly kinder when her new best friend Ashlen enters the picture and inspires Amy to be more compassionate, sympathetic and helpful towards her class.
Child Hater: Downplayed, while she’s annoyed by anything centered around children and when people talk about children, she’s actually more jealous of the attention children get and doesn’t genuinely hate children themselves as she was actually pretty fond of Kota and bonded with him over the loss of their parents.
Played straight though in her case with Eri, who she disliked, but later warmed up to her.
However, ultimately her aversion to children stems more from the fear that she won’t know how to properly care for them but she claims that she DOES hate only children who are “nasty little shits”.
Chevalier vs. Rogue: She’s the Rogue to Ashlen’s Chevalier as Amy uses her magic to fight dirty and play tricks on her opponents while Ashlen relies primarily on her stealth and combat skills while maintaining a noble, honorable approach in battle.
Chivalrous Pervert: Amy is an unabashed pervert (but nowhere near Mineta’s level) as she likes to stare at her male classmates’ butts and tends to be a flirt, but she’s a good person at heart and never does anything without consent.
Clingy Jealous Girl: Amy is a VERY jealous person by nature, but especially towards the people she’s in love with, as she grew to dislike Uraraka when she realized the latter also had a crush on Midoriya, dismissing her as a basic, boring girl with nothing going on. And then she displays this same jealousy towards Camie after hearing that she had to take a remedial course with Bakugo, Todoroki and Yoarashi as Amy referred to her as a “skintight slut”.
Cloudcuckoolander: She’s clearly off her rocker, has an odd way of thinking, randomly breaks out into song and dance and seems to be pretty much be in her own world.
Combat Pragmatist: A dirty fighter by nature, Amy uses whatever she can get her hands on if it means success, often through the use of telekinesis to make people lose their footing.
She used a stone to bash Midoriya’s face while using her telekinesis for speed, knowing her own physical strength won’t do much damage, and used a piece of heavy debris as a blunt weapon during a battle to stun him and swat him away from her and then into the ground.
Once again, she uses her telekinesis beforehand to steal sweat from Bakugo to use his own explosions against him in a battle.
When in a bad mood and ready to lash out, she surprises Aizawa by blinding him with a potion to give her the chance to attack him, as well as attacking him from behind and using his capture weapon to cover his eyes and entrap him.
Likewise, she always uses Shinsou’s capture weapon against him to trap him or cover his mouth so she can get the upperhand.
Comedic Sociopathy: Downplayed but it’s clear she finds it hilarious to see other people get hurt whether physically or if a joke’s made at their expense. Even though deep down she doesn’t truly like to see them actually hurt.
Comic Trio: With her witch sisters she’s this with Mallory and Coco, with her UA classmates she’s this with Shinsou and Kaminari.
However it’s downplayed with her, Shinsou and Ashlen. Amy is always taking the lead by getting her friends to do something wild and fun, and although Shinsou is far from stupid, he does nothing to stop her and simply follows her lead, while Ashlen is always trying to reign Amy in when she’s going out of control.
Companion Cube: She’s rather fond of her broomstick ‘Brooke’ to the point of talking to it like it was an actual person, and Shinsou even jokes that it might as well be her lover.
Amy: Ahhh I love you so much baby... I’m going to take you to my room and stroke your bristles...
Conditioned to Accept Horror: Due to seeing her parents die before her eyes AND every other horror she witnessed in New Orleans with the witches, voodoo witches and witch hunters, she’s able to go through every horrific thing that occurs at UA without being fazed much. She even tells Bakugo that when enough horrible things happen to you, you’re bound to get used to it.
Cool Big Sis: Takes up this role wherever Kota is concerned as she frequently takes him out for ice-cream, lets him ride with her on her broomstick and took him to an amusement park.
And when she got over her initial dislike of Eri (but retains her jealousy sometimes), she somewhat became this to her, stating that Eri “needs a woman in her life” and becomes that “woman” in an odd, albeit irresponsible way as she lets her play with her dog Dakota, also gives her her favorite Disney movies to watch, taught her how to sing and let her bake cookies with her, but she also let her have her first soda, gave her candy and chocolate and let her buy any clothes and toys that she wanted while also encouraging her to be sassy.
Corrupt The Cutie: Already broken from seeing her parents die, when 11 year old Am is taken to America and attends Robichaux, guardians like Fiona, Madison and Zoe (to a lesser extent) slowly corrupt her into a morally ambiguous young witch who’s not above murdering and deception if it means achieving a goal.
Creepy Child: Her experiences at New Orleans with her witch sisters turned her into one as she began making much more morbid jokes about death, ghosts and demons, and then smiling at inappropriate times and generally making adults feel uncomfortable. She was only 10 at the time.
Creepy Shadowed Undereyes: Not visible but that’s because she hides them with make-up. They’re not nearly as bad as Shinsou’s, but when she’s angry, going crazy or depressed they’re much more prominent.
Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: She’s very much a comedic girl, but also very much a dangerous girl with a LOT of powers that she’s very skilled with in combat and WILL use them to rip someone a new one.
Cry Cute: When Amy drops her guard and sheds tears, she’s surprisingly more sympathetic and endearing even though she claims to be an “ugly crier”.
Cuddle Bug: Amy is a very affectionate girl who craves the affection in return and loves to hug her friends, especially Shinsou, Ashlen, Midoriya, Mallory and Todoroki.
Curbstomp Battle: Played Straight in her fights at some of the thugs at the USJ and her two fights with Kaminari and Iida at the Sports Festival. As Kaminari attempts to flirt with her, Amy is flattered but quickly pushes him out of the ring with her telekinesis within a matter of 10 seconds. Similarly, she taunts Iida with her teleportation and pretends to give him an opening to get her out of the ring, only to teleport right at the last second and then push HIM out of the ring again with her telekinesis.
Downplayed in her fight with Midoriya. She picks a fight with him after the Culture Festival when he provokes her, and while he doesn’t want to fight her he still gains the upperhand and pins her down. However, it’s Played Straight when he tries to get her to calm down and instead pushes her buttons with a poor choice of words, which reinvigorates Amy’s rage and awakens the full extent of her Sentio Compassios as she gets big and utterly dominates him.
Also played straight during her fight with Aizawa, although she cheated by blinding him with a potion, she still beat the hell out of him with her telekinesis and Sentio Compassios and only stopped when Cordelia intervened.
Curtains Match The Windows: Sort of. She has blonde hair and amber eyes.
Cute and Psycho: Amy’s endearing and sweet but also straight-up insane and cheerfully talks about murder and death while expressing an excitement when the opportunity to kill shows up.
Cute Witch: Eccentric as she may be, Amy is fairly cute for a powerful witch.
Cuteness Proximity: Amy ALWAYS gushes whenever she’s with adorable animals, especially if it’s puppies, kittens, foxes and ferrets. It’s one of the few times we see her acting like a normal teenage girl.
Daddy’s Girl: She was one to her father Hiroshi, and despite the way she occasionally abuses and disrespects him, it’s clear she has a strong attachment to Aizawa as he is the only fatherly figure she knows after her real father died.
Dark Is Not Evil: While she has a mean streak and a wicked side, Amy is truly not a bad person at heart as she decides to remain on the hero’s side so she can protect the people she loves and had no true intention of going to the villain’s side.
Deadpan Snarker: She might be flighty, but she’s very quick-witted and knows how to make clever insults and puns towards others, but especially at Shinsou, Madison, Bakugo, Iida and Aizawa.
Then again, two of her closest friends are Shinsou and Madison, and then FIONA was the one looking after her so she picked up some snark.
Death Glare: Since she’s often seen smiling, she can give one hell of an effective death glare. It’s so intimidating that the minute Shinsou sees it, he encourages whoever is in the vicinity (whether his classmates OR teacher) to leave as fast as possible or apologize if they angered her.
Death Seeker: Shachath occasionally comes to her as she says that Amy tends to ‘sing’ to her which implies that she’s contemplating suicide often.
Defrosting Ice Queen: Towards her classmates as she goes from insulting and pranking them, to more buddy-buddy with them, particularly with Iida and Bakugo. Also, while she freezes Midoriya out for a while, his kindness and patience with her allows her to defrost back to him.
Later, because of her friend Ashlen’s encouragement, she defrosts towards Eri as well.
Determinator: Sure Amy’s a slacker, but when she’s determined to do something, she gets down to it and won’t stop until she gets what she wants. To the point of even sacrificing dignity and being her most stubborn self if it means achieving a goal.
Dissonant Laughter: When Aizawa is scolding the class for knowing of the plan to rescue her and Bakugo, she bursts into sudden, uncontrollable and mad laughter, BEFORE Bakugo even made Kaminari use his quirk to get a laugh out of everyone...
Disproportionate Retribution: Midoriya drinks her lemonade and eats her fruit sandwich, not knowing it was her’s, and she flies into a rage and even goes so far as to get a plastic plate and start beating him with it and chasing him out of the room.
And then again, she nearly crushes Midoriya in her Giant Sentio Compassios form because he called selfish and cruel.
Iida tells Aizawa that Shinsou (during a depression) drew a line into the wall with a sharpie which got him in trouble, and Amy ralles a group of students to protest against him to the point where he broke down and cried according to Midoriya.
Aizawa gives her a bad grade on an essay and tells Cordelia about how she’s misbehaved in class, and Amy quickly retaliates by threatening to burn his sleeping bag. She didn’t actually do it, but she nearly did.
Distracted By The Sexy: She utilizes this tactic against some of her opponents and wears Madison’s crotchless panties and ‘accidentally’ flashes them to Shishikura during the Provisional Hero License arc to get him to back off. It works..
Double Standard: Very fond of finding these and pointing them especially when it comes to gender and topics involving humans and witches.
Drama Queen: Whenever Amy gets excited she tends to break out into song and dance, and when she’s upset she tends to go into a ‘woe is me’ mode and exaggerate her misery.
The Dreaded: Shinsou knows better than to provoke and/or push Amy’s buttons and is quick to warn people when he can tell she’s in a bad mood and even goes so far as to alert others from doing or saying certain things that WILL anger her or simply tell them to quickly apologize should they provoke her by accident. And it becomes more apparent to the rest of her class the more they learn of her unpredictable temper, mood swings and array of powers and begin to go to great lengths to avoid provoking her.
Even after their fight and even after Amy starts to become a better, saner person, Midoriya is still terrified of her.
Dreadful Musician: Loves to sing but tends to go off-key at times, and is an absolutely horrible violin player to the point were even Present Mic and Bakugo can’t stand it.
Drowning My Sorrows: Non-alcoholic example as she drowns in soda (Dr. Pepper or Big Red) whenever she’s really sad or lamenting after a failed test.
Drunk On The Dark Side: Spending time with the witches of New Orleans has encouraged her to embrace her darker impulses and be willing to do anything to get what you want and need. And by the time she goes to UA, Amy’s very self-indulgent and not above doing immoral things. However, she does start to stray away from this for the sake of her new friends.
Dude Magnet: Despite her quirky nature, she’s got Bakugo, Todoroki and Monoma all holding some kind of torch for her.
Dumb Blonde: Subverted. Amy seems and acts like a flake and can lack common sense, but she’s actually very sly, crafty and manipulative several times and has shown to be able to really think ahead before she springs into an action plan.
Easily Forgiven: Shinsou will ALWAYS forgive her for anything she does no matter how amoral or messed up it may be, and that includes murder, manipulation and deception or even going on a rampage throughout his school. And he tends to quickly comes to her defense and excuse her actions by saying that she’s been through enough and that she shouldn’t be judged for what she does.
Midoriya also forgives her pretty quickly even after she attempted to crush him with her Sentio Compassios form and destroyed his apology gift (but fixed it later). Aizawa also forgave her fast despite the fact that she blinded him and attacked him.
Shinsou: (to Aizawa, after Amy’s rage) Okay... look... I now you’re not happy with her now, but here’s the truth sensei, Amy is not bad at all, she just grew up in an environment that showed her a lot of bad things. She never wanted that life, she was forced into it, it’s not her fault...
Emotionless Girl: Amy becomes withdrawn, surly and apathetic after she leaves UA, and it’s much more prominent when she interns with Endeavor alongside Midoriya, Bakugo and Todoroki, all of whom are unnerved by her new demeanor.
The Empath: Her father had a quirk called “Feelings” that allowed him to feel what others felt, which Amy is revealed to have inherited from him when his quirk manifested in her unique power “Sentio Compassios”, an extremely powerful form of divination that allows Amy to feel and see what others are feeling, as well as their auras. As such Amy can empathize with the people around her and it makes her feel the need to help them out with anything they may need any help with.
Enfant Terrible: Upon going to New Orleans and entering Robichaux, being exposed to all the bloodshed and betrayal with her fellow witches turns her into this as she easily gets corrupted by the new lifestyle and doesn’t hesitate to help her sisters kill their enemies brutally as she happily joined them in stabbing the Axe Man to death. She just turned 11 at the time.
Even Bad Women Love Their Mamas: She’s a trouble-maker at best and a sadistic bitch at worst, but no matter what, she never loses her love for deceased parents and loves her godmother Cordelia dearly. In fact, Cordelia is currently the only adult she hasn’t insulted or disrespected.
Even Evil Can Be Loved: Amy’s not truly evil by nature, but even when she’s at her most psychotic, her friends still love her regardless of the madness. Shinsou in particular still holds a lot of platonic love for her even when she’s lost her mind, and her new best friend Ashlen has embraced even Amy’s less than savory qualities because she still loves her deeply and regards her as her best friend. And then her coven still loves her deeply, especially Cordelia, Madison and Zoe.
Even Evil Has Standards: Amy’s an anarchist who loves the wicked side of things and has no issues killing people, manipulating them for her own gain and stealing, but even she’s appalled by things or other villains have done.
She was quite unnerved in the presence of All For One and claimed that she’s never been that afraid since Fiona.
She also turned down the offer from the League of Villains because she didn’t want to abandon her friends at UA as she realized that the students there are good people that she doesn’t want to harm.
She sympathized with the League of Villains stating that she understood them and stated that Society is messed up because she would never ostracize someone for being different.
Despite her (occasionally) rocky friendship with Midoriya, she dumped Bakugo for 2 whole months when Madison tells him that he told Midoriya to kill himself in middle school and Amy was absolutely disgusted by such cruelty.
Amy will not hurt anyone innocent, even when she becomes homicidal she only attacks people who are attacking her, and even if it’s her classmates (such as Iida, Tokoyami, Jirou who attempted to stop her) she merely knocks them out via telling them to ‘sleep’ and does nothing to hurt them or the rest of 1-A.
She respected Fiona but disapproved of how she treated Cordelia, and likewise, despises Endeavor for what he did to Todoroki and the rest of his family.
Amy’s all for dirty tricks and humiliating others for fun, but will stop when she sees someone getting legitimately hurt.
Even The Girls Want Her: Her witch friend Darcy has an obsessive, mad crush on her.
Everyone Has Standards: Amy’s something of an airhead and not all there but even there are things that bewilder her or ‘ick’ her out.
She’s a pervert but even she was appalled by Mineta’s lack of shame in  his perversion.
Even when she hated Eri at the time, she still tossed Mineta into the stratosphere via telekinesis for making an inappropriate comment to her.
For all that she and Iida despise each other’s contrasting quirks, Amy sees from his point of view when frat brothers trash her mansion and act very uncouth even for her liking.
She finds it amusing to point out things she knows about people while they freak out and wonder how she knew that, but crosses the line at stalking and obsession because that ‘icks’ her out.
Despite her childish nature, even Amy is baffled by her older witch sister Coco’s inability to take care of herself and perform simple tasks such as laundry and cleaning.
Evil Laugh: Gives off one hell of an effective one akin to the Wicked Witch of The West, it’s so wicked sounding it genuinely disturbs her classmates and even Aizawa.

Dad Letter 120620
Tumblr media
6 December, 2020
Dear Dad--
Happy Sunday! It’s snowing vigorously here. We got something that the newspapers actually call “a wicked nor’easter” in the form of a “bomb cyclone” which caused the weather yesterday to become “complete bullshit.” It was supposed to be a huge snow event. I was promised lots of heavy, wet snow. But the line where it changed from snow to rain fell in love with Old Town and kept coming back, like the guest who wouldn’t leave. What we got instead was heavy rain and lots and lots of wind. That’s bad, because high winds tend to fuck up the skirting around our trailer, and Zach has to go outside and pop the shit all back in place. This time, however, it was simply too wrecked to pop back into place; there’s pieces of skirting all over.
And the snow has finally begun in earnest. It’s really coming down outside! It’s beautiful, and I love it, even if I do have to go to the store. An inch of snow, and it’s like the whole trailer park got a fresh coat of paint. Everything looks clean again, for a little while. Anyway, tomorrow, I’ll notify the landlord that the wind done fucked up our skirting, and humbly request they send a dude around who will fix it so that it stays fixed. At the same time, we will submit another request to stop the back door from leaking. When it rains, water comes in from the top of the back door. When that happens, I alert Zach by saying, “We’ve lost containment!” and running around like it’s a nuclear accident. (That’s mostly to combat Covid-related ennui, however.)
And now Zach’s fucked up his back. I threw my back out a few weeks ago, giving myself some sciatic pain, and now I gave it to Zach. I wish the bad things I do weren’t then copied by everyone else. (I was chunky and in love with bacon way before the rest of America got chunky and fell in love with bacon, e.g.) Now Zach is walking around like a question mark, making little grunty noises every time he sits down. We’re both now thinking it would behoove us to start doing a little exercise (boo! hiss!) and/or stretching every day, just to build a bit of strength and prevent future occurrences. Because this, like the high winds, is kinda bullshit.
Oh my goodness, I saw such a good movie yesterday. My favorite film director is David Fincher, who did Seven, and Fight Club, and Zodiac, and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and The Social Network. He’s one of the most skilled and knowledgeable American filmmakers out there, as far as I’m concerned. He has just made a new movie about Herman Mankiewicz, the guy who wrote Citizen Kane. And it’s such a good movie! It’s called Mank. It’s in black in white. It’s got beautiful period costumes and props and architecture. Every line of dialog just crackles, it’s so good. I don’t even know who they got to play Orson Welles, but the actor sounds just like him. Mankiewicz drank a lot! He also wrote possibly the best movie script of all time, the bastard, so some of those closest to him didn’t mind helping smuggle in booze when he was supposed to be rehabbing.
In other news, yesterday’s winds seem to have brought down a huge tree on our plant scientist friend’s property. It didn’t hit anything expensive on the way down, thank goodness, but he now has a (I’m guessing) 40 ft. evergreen lying in his yard. I already asked if, as a plant science guy, the tree suicide made him extra sad, but it did not. In fact, he’s already had a neighbor volunteer the use of a chainsaw. Plant scientist guy (whose name is Bryan) is at peace with the fact that all plants go to plant heaven eventually.
So! Zach’s back seemed to be on the mend, but now he’s a symphony of painful grunts again. I gave him a couple of the baby strength muscle relaxants my doctor gave me for when I threw my back out, and Zach got about as much out of them as I did, which was to say they didn’t do diddly. Perhaps next time I can suggest the doc give me a grownup-sized dose. If it were 1955, I’m guessing they’d give me something strong enough to work. “Here, have some morphine! It relaxes everything!”
As for my own writing, it’s going! I continue to be done with my Legend of Hell House script, and I think I’m going to send my first letter to an agency tomorrow, asking for representation with it. I’m also restarting my United Flight 232 script, again, because I keep realizing how important a good introduction will be, and I keep realizing how my most recent introduction fails to rise to the challenge. It’s a true story about a plane crash; I shouldn’t have difficulty capturing an audience’s interest. But I am learning that it’s possible (and I should have learned this in college) to take a dynamic and thrilling historical event and turn it into a boring-ass history lesson. So I think the plane crash thing, which will end up being like a narrated slideshow, needs to start out exciting--perhaps as the plane touches down and things really start to go badly--and then fill in the backstory after that, what caused it to land so poorly, etc.
Since I’m still learning all about the crash, I’ve learned a new term, and being someone who likes words, this is a doozy. The thing that brought this plane down was a metallurgical defect known as a “hard alpha inclusion.” Basically it was a little impurity in the titanium that they used to make the big jet engine fan, that turned into a little crack, that got bigger over time, that caused the fan to fly apart while in use, causing all the ensuing excitement. Oh, with regard to this whole plane crash project, I have come to the realization that I might be better off filming it myself with my Nikon, which can shoot video. Then I could edit it myself (well, and do everything by myself) and then put it on the internet. Then someone sees it, decides to give me money to make another one, and my career as a film person takes off.
Now, I must brave the light snow and make my way to the grocery store to pick up a prescription! It will take me longer to defrost my car than the trip to the store and back would normally take. My car always ran cool in Texas, and I was grateful for it. It never overheated. But here, I’m asking it, “Shit, can’t you get hot any faster?” I do love having yankee problems.
More next week! All my love to you both! And thanks for the videos you’ve been sending!

By now, you’ve probably heard the story.
Last week, an actress and photographer, Rosey Blair, asked to switch seats with a woman on a plane from New York to Dallas so that she could sit next to her boyfriend. Blair proceeded to live-tweet as she observed the woman and her new seatmate chat and eventually start flirting, discussing their mutual love of working out and subtly touching elbows, all details captured and posted by Blair. Her thread went mega-viral, racking up 900,000 likes, getting picked up by national news outlets and earning Blair thousands of new followers.
Many initially thought the story was adorable, even if others found it creepy and intrusive. Then the incident took an even darker turn.
An online hunt began to find the identities of the couple, now identified by the hashtag #PlaneBae. The man, a former professional soccer player named Euan Holden, embraced the media circus, but the woman, uncomfortable with the newfound spotlight, hesitated. That didn’t stop the online mob from tracking her down. She began receiving crass, sexually explicit messages in the comments of her personal Instagram profile.
She deactivated her social media accounts and declined an invitation to go on the Today show. Blair and Holden appeared without her. No one asked her if she had any reservations or concerns about being made part of a viral story. All she did was board a plane and chat with her seatmate. Now she is a public figure, a hashtag, and a target. Millions of strangers on the internet want to know about her personal life.
The erosion of the division between public and private has been coming for a while now. Maybe it started with reality television and the dramatic storylines broadcast to millions about people just like you falling in love. (Though those people willingly signed up to become public figures.) Maybe it was already in the works before then: People have always turned other people’s lives into public spectacle regardless of their will.
When I was 22, I wrote my first paid article for a publication on the internet. My essay, written under my own name, was about what it was like to date with genital herpes. I expected maybe a few thousand people to read it on the Women’s Health website; it wasn’t even going in the physical magazine. At the time, I was an intern at a media company, less than a year out of college, and my only brush with fame was as a 13-year-old writer of moderately popular Harry Potter fanfiction.
The herpes article went viral. Not just “few thousand retweets” viral — I mean invitations to go on daytime television viral. Two days after my essay went up on Women’s Health, I was featured in a trending article on the Washington Post website. It was aggregated from there on Yahoo, Jezebel, and eventually even The Daily Mail, where an enterprising staffer tracked down my private Facebook profile and raided it for photographs to use in their article.
There I was, smiling brightly in a picture my mother had taken as my father blew out his birthday candles. Of course, they cropped my father out, leaving me grinning and alone as hundreds of Daily Mail readers wrote comments underneath attacking my character. This slut, this shameful whore. She should kill herself for having an STI.
The next year I would find myself at the center of a new controversy when Genius, a well-funded startup that mostly writes annotations on song lyrics, launched a new tool allowing their users to annotate any website, anywhere. I wrote a blog post detailing why I thought the product was unethical, as it ignored the consent of the website creator and let strangers essentially scrawl graffiti on our intellectual property. I was also concerned it would be yet another tool in the hands of abusers, stalkers, and harassment mobs to come after me on my personal blog; since going viral, I had spent a year receiving horrifying sexual emails from strangers.
Sam Biddle, writing for Gawker, found my case unconvincing. His argument boiled down to my status as a public figure. “It’s brave and noble of Dawson to publicly try to combat the stigma of STD infection,” he wrote. “But when she writes ‘we need more voices to challenge the single narrative of herpes,’ she’s already acknowledging her place in public—it’s right there in the ‘we.’ If you want to advocate for a cause in front of an audience (and judging by the fact that her website has a ‘Press’ section, I’m assuming she does), you have to take what comes with it. Dawson says she has a blog ‘to have total control of how I write and who interacts with me.’ If only this were possible! Unfortunately, this is a fantasy, and will always be so.”
Chelsea Hassler, writing for Slate, argued the contrary position: That as a blogger with a few articles published, I was not someone who rose to the level of a “public figure.” I was an individual, an amateur. She wrote, “There’s a substantive difference between critiquing the work of a professional journalist or blogger and critiquing the writing of an individual who is using her blog as an outlet to communicate with other likeminded people.”
People like me pose a challenge to traditional understandings of the public-private divide. I write about my personal life, and sometimes I get paid to do so. I have fewer than 20,000 followers on Twitter. I’ve had a handful of short stories published in anthologies by indie houses and my blog has steady traffic, but I don’t have a Wikipedia page. Would you consider me a public figure? At what point did I become one? Would it change your mind if I told you I’ve never wanted to be one?
I don’t think there is any such thing as a “private person” anymore. The vast majority of us constantly groom our internet presence, choosing the right filter on Instagram for our brunch and taking polls of our friends about our next Facebook profile picture.
We don’t think about this as a public act when we have only 400 connections on LinkedIn or 3,000 followers on Tumblr. No one imagines the Daily Mail write-up or the Jezebel headline. We actively create our public selves, every day, one social media post at a time. Little kids dream of becoming famous YouTubers the same way I wanted to be a published author when I was 12.
But there are also those of us who don’t choose this. We keep our accounts locked, our Instagram profile set to “friends only.” Maybe we learned a lesson when a post took off and left the safe haven of our community, picked apart in a horrifying display of context collapse by strangers who we didn’t intend to speak to. Maybe we are hiding from something: a stalker, an abusive ex, our family members who don’t know our true queer identity. To some of us, privacy is vital.
A woman boarded a plane in New York and stepped off that plane in Dallas. She chatted with a stranger, showed him some family photos, brushed his elbow with her own. At no point did she agree to participate in the story Rosey Blair was telling. After the fact, when the hunt began and the woman took no part in encouraging it the way Holden did, Blair tweeted a video in which she drawled, “We don’t have the gal’s permish yet, not yet y’all, but I’m sure you guys are sneaky, you guys might…” And her followers did not disappoint.
When people called Blair out for this blatant invasion of privacy, she blocked them. Because she, apparently, wanted to control her own boundaries. Later she tweeted about wanting a job at BuzzFeed.
I don’t know what the woman on the plane is thinking or feeling. I don’t know if she’s afraid or angry or mildly amused but inconvenienced. But I know how it feels to see strangers scrawling obscenities on social media accounts and email inboxes you once considered safe, commenting alongside your friends and family members. I know the sour humiliation of knowing everyone in your life can see that strangers have written about you — your parents, your co-workers, your exes.
Even when the attention is positive, it is overwhelming and frightening. Your mind reels at the possibility of what they could find: your address, if your voting records are logged online; your cellphone number, if you accidentally included it on a form somewhere; your unflattering selfies at the beginning of your Facebook photo archive. There are hundreds of Facebook friend requests, press requests from journalists in your Instagram inbox, even people contacting your employer. This story you didn’t choose becomes the main story of your life.
There is no opting-in, no consent form, no opportunity to take it all back. It feels like you are drowning as everyone on the beach applauds your swimming prowess. What do you have to complain about? Why wouldn’t you want publicity?
It’s clear that to Blair, the violation of this woman’s privacy is less important than Blair’s growing platform and ambition. It is not a romantic comedy for the digital age. It is an act of dehumanization.
A friend of mine asked if I’d thought through the contradiction of criticizing Blair publicly like this, when she’s another not-quite public figure too. But Blair is not just posting about her own life; she has taken non-consenting parties along for the ride. While Blair uploads gorgeous Instagram photos to celebrate her body on her birthday (I say this genuinely: You go, girl), the woman on the plane has deleted her own Instagram account after receiving violent abuse from the army Blair created. As the content creator of this media circus, Blair is responsible for the behavior of its fans. When faced with the opportunity to discourage their privacy violations, she has done the opposite: “I’m sure you guys are sneaky.”
You become a public figure the instant that someone else decides you are worthy of interest, even if you are minding your damn business. Maybe you will tweet a joke. Maybe you will squint in a friend’s photograph. Maybe you will yodel in a Walmart. Or maybe you will board a plane.

Action Comedies in Anime and what we can Learn from Them
A dire warning to sushi lovers everywhere!
Perhaps influenced by Anthony’s recent article and the ensuing discussion, I decided to watch anime for the first time in a few years, settling on the series One Punch Man.  It follows the exploits of heroic, dull-witted Saitama, who decides to become a costumed hero after failing a job interview and encountering a half human, half crab mutant in his underwear attacking people nearby.  Unfortunately, after three years of training, he has reached a point where he kills every opponent with a single punch, leading to a boring existence where no villain, no matter how terrifying or deadly, presents any challenge to him.  The series is very good, both action-packed and funny, and made me think about anime action comedies in general.
The genre (and this applies to Japanese live action movies, too) presents an interesting dichotomy right off the bat.  On the one hand, the Japanese are fantastic at action.  The choreography of the fights, the ebb and flow of the action, the way they build up villains as all-powerful, horrifying menaces, and protagonists as the ultimate, tough, stoic heroes is masterful and worth studying.
On the flipside, they are terrible at comedy.  With a small handful of exceptions, comedy anime lacks jokes, have poor “beats”, and are full of hokey, canned humor.  I don’t think this can simply be attributed to a difference in tastes between East and West, either.  Not only is one of the exceptions, Detroit Metal City, one of the funniest creative works I’ve ever seen and read, but this doesn’t apply to, say, Hong Kong movies, which are often uproariously funny.
Regardless, this combination of a strength and weakness is important to keep in mind.
Kenshiro was modeled after Bruce Lee, Mad Max, and Ogami Itto.
Before looking at the pure action comedies, let’s examine a few action series that benefit considerably from humor.  First up is the shounen classic Hokuto No Ken, or Fist of the North Star.  A favorite of little boys and girls alike in 1980’s Japan, it’s not a series one would imagine to be rife with laughs.  Taking place in a post-apocalyptic society heavily inspired by Mad Max, giant, evil punks brutally torture and murder innocent people simply trying to survive the hellish nuclear wasteland.  And yet, when the hero Kenshiro arrives to dispense justice on the evil-doers, the resulting comeuppance is often nothing short of hilarious.
Check out this scene.  Or this one.
While the major fights between Kenshiro and the other powerful martial artists in the series are kept serious, his disposal of sadistic flunkies, always ending with a deadpan omae wa mou shindeiru (“you are already dead”), is an important element in the show’s success.
If everything was kept serious, the series would quickly become monotonous and a tad depressing, with so many episodes featuring cruel punks victimizing helpless villagers.  However, thanks to the more humorous approach, one is constantly looking forward to the punishment Kenshiro will dole out to the villains, which is as gratifying as it is funny.  And it stays fresh and interesting, since they always change it up.
Lastly, while I love a good dub, Hokuto no Ken has to be watched with subs, to the point where it’s a far worse, even different show in the English translation.  The anime is a phenomenal voice-acting achievement, with Akira Kamiya perfectly encapsulating Kenshiro’s stoicism and coolness through the smallest tonal inflection, and the late, great Kenji Utsumi conveying the overwhelming power and ruthlessness of the main villain Raoh.  Credit the voice acting with much of the aforementioned humor, or how memorable the character’s toughness and emotions are.  In fact, I struggle to think of an anime where the voice acting had this much significance.  (Most times, it’s a non-factor for me in rating a series) Needless to say, the English translation is not up to the task, being poor even by regular anime standards, and making Kenshiro sound like a nebbish, dweebish schoolteacher.
Another good example of comedy being used in an action series is in Grappler Baki.  Here, the humor comes from a different source.  Namely, how ridiculously over-the-top everything is.  While it occurs in the manga, one scene perfectly crystallizes this.  The monstrous American convict Spec has escaped from a maximum security prison, killed countless guards, and made his way to Japan.  At one point, he comes across several generic Japanese delinquents, one of whom is holding a gun.  What does he do in this situation?  One might think he would beat them up or kill them, despite the firearm.  Or perhaps he would even take the gun and crush it in his hands.  That’s what one usually does to build up a big, scary villain, right?
Well, author Keisuke Itagaki takes it a step further.  See, Spec bemusedly takes the gun from the delinquents, and then, remarking that such little toys can’t hurt him, proceeds to shoot himself in the face, blowing off a portion of his cheek.  One can’t help but laugh at such a creatively absurd situation.  Yet again, this humor is vital in keeping the series fresh.  Any power fantasy, no matter how well-executed (and Grappler Baki does it better than anyone, in my view), can become monotonous self-parody if not spruced up with the occasional wink-and-nod from the creator.
Moving on to actual action comedies, one can learn much from 1988’s Sakigake!! Otokojuku.  With a main character who is a blatant rip-off of Kenshiro, it takes place in the world’s toughest and most brutal high school, a Japanese all-male institution where every student is a powerful fighter, teachers make the students go through insane physical challenges, and crazy duels to the death break out constantly.
A big hit during the late 80’s, it is largely forgotten nowadays. In this case, it’s perfectly just.
It starts off promisingly enough, with fun fights and the humor being a combination of how over-the-top the school is and the ways the main character humiliates the sadistic teachers.  Unfortunately, the series loses its path halfway through, completely abandoning the comedy and turning into a melodramatic series where a powerful student dies each episode, everyone cries and mourns him, only for him to come back later.  In this, it’s badly aping Hokuto No Ken.  The latter series had (genuine) character deaths and was meant to be occasionally emotional, but these moments were few and far between, so they actually meant something.  In Otokojuku, its regularity and meaninglessness makes it eye-rolling emotional miasma.
There is also a disconnect in settings.  Characters dying in the brutal nuclear wasteland of Hokuto No Ken makes sense.  Teens dying in modern-day Japan, under the full knowledge and participation of the school principal, who is portrayed as a positive hero, makes the series idiotic and perverse.
Lastly, Hokuto No Ken never abandons its humor, even near the very end.  Otokojuku does, and it becomes borderline unbearable when combined with the weepiness.
For another stark example of what not to do, consider Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo.  Set in a futuristic world where the protagonist, sporting a golden afro, must defeat an evil emperor, it’s supposed to be a parody of other anime.  Unfortunately, “parody” here means “make a reference to, without any actual jokes or commentary”.  For me, it simply reminded me how much better those other shows were.  And unlike the other examples we looked at, Bobo is downright silly, with characters constantly yelling in an exaggerated, silly manner, chibi animations, nonsensical fights and “random” events, etc.  This could potentially work in a pure comedy, but in an action comedy, it robs the fights of any stakes or interest a viewer has in them.  This is in start contrast to Grappler Baki or Hokuto No Ken, where the combatants and fights still maintain complete credibility.  Here, the bad comedy makes the fighting worse and irrelevant, leading to a series that is torture to sit through.
Better, more original character design than most anime leads.
Which brings us back to One Punch Man.  Despite being much sillier than Hokuto No Ken, and featuring ridiculous villains and heroes, (a sexy, buxom, insect-like villainness called “Mosquite Girl” and a hero who looks like Snidely Whiplash being a waiter called “Spring Mustachio” were particular highlights) the fights are always treated seriously.  They are animated and choreographed exceedingly well, far better than in most straight action series.  Some of the humor is based on parodies of other properties, but it has actual observations to make, and is not reliant upon it.  The premise itself is funny, and frequently exploited; a random guy attains ultimate power, but it only makes his life boring as he no longer finds combat exciting.  Furthermore, he still lives a standard, humdrum life in his modest apartment, watering his plants and getting excited for weekend sales.  The fight scenes would make for a good action anime by itself, and the humor would be enough for a decent comedy.  Together, it’s an excellent series, better than the sum of its parts.
We have only touched upon a small number of action comedies in anime, both among those I like and those I don’t.  Still, we have gleaned many important lessons from the ones we examined above.
Most importantly, humor is a vital element for most action series, not just action comedies, keeping it fresh and exciting, but it should never come at the expense of the fights.  And one shouldn’t abandon the humor halfway through, a lesson many Hollywood movies could also learn from.
