Inktober Day 2: Hunting Hound
(TW: Blood, injuries, and monsters)
And the variants 'cause I think they're funky.
So this is a day late but I was reeeeally fucking tired the other one but I was working on it. Just didn't get to finish. The one for today will be shortly posted after this one.
And, for those of the Stobotnik community who don't know, this is a Werewolf!Stone AU created by the amazing @kellterntempest , who also created the Vampire!Stone AU (yes, let's just keep making Stone a monster, I live for it). If you have the chance, please go check out their ideas and art for it because it is FABULOUS! Anyways, enough about me fanning over other Stobotnik artists' work, just enjoy some edgy gay villains.
(And I know our baby boy Stone would never hurt the Doctor but what it? đ)

Doing Anything for Heat
âDo you always refer to yourself in third person when writing these up?âÂ
âLegalities, Prefect, although I do not expect you to know anything about that.âÂ
Guess who canât write as much anymore because she got a nasty bite at work! So yes, I was working on requests so diligently and then bam--this happens.Â
As an apology for my late ass writings, please take this mini scenario for the Octavinelle Trio! Azulâs SSR card got translated and I just...god I love these boys so much q wq Reader: [G/N] Warnings: Casual flirting, possessive thoughts from all the boys and just MC striking up a contract with Azul and taking a very creative approach towards it~Â
â[Y/N]!!!!â Grimm pulls at your arm as you sit down across from Azul, the man holding out a contract to you as he tilts his head with a smile. âWhat will it be, Prefect?âÂ
Your hands sweat as you rub them on your legs. âHehe~ Little Shrimp looks so scared~âÂ
The contract is placed in front of you slowly, Azul taking care of minding his manners as you lean back and go over the simple specifications. Made simpler, of course, since Azul had âsuchâ a kind heart.Â
What a con artist.Â
Winter was hitting Night Raven College hard but was hitting Ramshackle even harder.Â
How many blankets had you bought from Samâs shop? Ten? Twenty? You honestly didnât know but you and Grimm were close to freezing some night and you had just about enough of living in an ice cube for a dorm.Â
You were acting out of desperation.Â
And, ever the businessman, Azul had stretched out his hand for your unfortunate soul.Â
âBring sixty customers during our lunch rush tomorrow and Azul Ashengrotto will personally see that a heater is installed in Ramshackle the same day.âÂ
You put the contract down and look him in the eye. âDo you always refer to yourself in third person when writing these up?âÂ
âLegalities, Prefect, although I do not expect you to know anything about that.âÂ
Great, more insults towards your intelligence.Â
Sixty customers. If you were to break that down it would be ten from each dorm not counting Octavinelle. You could rope Ace and Deuce to come, guilt trip Jack for not helping you with that assignment due last night, kindly ask Epel to make his way over here and maybe if you promised Sebek that you would listen to him rant about his dorm leader he would reluctantly agree.Â
But that wouldnât be near enough.Â
Azul clicks his tongue while Jade speaks up, âWe will have to take that answer today, [Y/N]-san. If not, I guess maybe we could let you take some blankets from Octavinelle--âÂ
âFine! Fine.â you sign your name on the dotted line and hand the contract back to Azul, the other grinning as he handed it towards his right-hand man. âHow wonderful! Iâll be waiting with baited breath to see what you bring us tomorrow~âÂ
You give Azul the fakest smile you can muster, waving goodbye to the twins as you make your way out of the lounge with Grimm by your side. âFgnaaa~! We are screwed! [Y/N] how could you! We are going to be stuck waiting tables for ETERNITY now!âÂ
âNot if we bring them what they asked for.â you bite your bottom lip as you look at the Monstro Lounge, your eyes falling on the small stage.Â
Oh right. Some students played here. Well, students deemed worthy enough to play. You remember the Music Club trying to do a gig here but failing miserably the moment Lilia opened his mouth. Despite the failure, it did bring some people in to get Azul over the red.Â
A floorshow.Â
Thatâs right! A floorshow!Â
âGrimm!â you grab the cat and bring him close as he freaks out.Â
âWhat--what!âÂ
âI got it!â you hold him out in front of you, âWe are going to have to let go of our pride a bit and this experience might humble us but...we will have heat!âÂ
â[Y/N] you are scaring me--âÂ
Grimm barely gets to say what he wants as he is dragged back into your arms, your feet running as fast as you can into Mr.Sâs shop for the stuff that you will need.
--------
âAh! Little Shrimp!âÂ
Jade looks up from the numbers he was crunching, smiling as he sees you approaching the table. You wave at Floyd and nod politely towards Jade, sitting down and tapping your fingers against the bar.Â
âYou are here rather late, [Y/N]-san. We have two hours until closing time.âÂ
âIâm justâŠputting my plan into action. Azul said he wanted sixty by tomorrow, after all.â Floyd grins as he finishes cleaning up the remaining glasses.Â
âEh? You are doing something tonight, little Shrimp?âÂ
â...yes.âÂ
He leans close, smiling wider as he sees a certain change in your appearance. The Monstro Lounge was always dark in order to provide a more atmospheric mood at night but with the little light he had to work with he could clearly see traces of makeup all over your face. âLittle Shrimp looks so shiny...just like a pearl.â You pull away as he tries to get closer, putting your hand out to stop him and turn your attention towards Jade. âRight. Do you have a backroom next to the stage? I just need to get some things ready--âÂ
âGo into the kitchen, farthest door to the back. There should be a door that leads you towards the back of the stage.â âDo you guys have a light booth--â âNext to the stage.â Jadeâs eyes shine, interested in what you are about to pull off, âDo you need our help--âÂ
âNope that is alright I can take care of this myself thank you.âÂ
Both twins watch you trot towards the kitchen, Grimm following close behind and about three ghosts âmatchingâ his step.Â
â...Floyd.âÂ
âYes?âÂ
âCall Azul. I think heâll be interested to see what is going on.â
--------
âFor heat. For heat. For heat!âÂ
You were doing this because of your situation. The situation was desperate so you had to take desperate measures.Â
Grimm clears his throat as you finish fixing his bowtie, the transparent fabric looking beautiful with the stitched shells all over it.Â
âAre the ghosts ready?â you ask.Â
âJust waiting for the curtains to close.âÂ
The crowd goes quiet as you press a few buttons and close them, hushing the late night crowd as you step onto the stage. You try to step softly so that the click of your heels wonât be heard while Grimm opens up the rather large shell in the middle of the stage. This was usually used as a promotional device, customers taking pictures inside it to promote their visits to the lounge. It had a soft cushiony seat inside and could fit a whole student.Â
You give a thumbs up to your other roommates, the ghosts smiling as their instruments manifested in front of them.Â
Spectral instruments really came in handy in these situations. âBreathe...BreatheâŠâ you sit down inside the shell and pull your legs up with you, fixing the train of your dress and touching the small shell tiara on your head. It was fashioned after King Triton after all, maybe Azul would get the reference?
Or rather, you hoped Azul wasnât watching at all. âOkay...close it, Grimm.â He nods and brings the top of the shell down slowly, trapping you both inside as he gave the cue to start up the lights. This was all for a heater...and maybe some tuna.Â
-----
-At first he wanted to laugh as he saw the curtain slowly being drawn back, when was the last time they used this stage? Student players just werenât âinâ as much anymore and he had to keep up with the trends. What were you planning to do with this?Â
-Yet his mouth clicked shut as the lights landed right on the shell, the music starting as your voice rang out softly from inside.Â
-He barely paid attention to the band as the shell slowly opened, Grimm flying out elegantly as he opened it while your frame was slowly being revealed to him as every studentâs jaw almost hit the floor.Â
-Azul clutched his cane as he watched you cradle your legs close to yourself, the lyrics completely blowing past him as you stretch yourself out to show off the outfit you had on. It seemed to shine like a pearl under the lights, your chest being accentuated by how snug it fit against your frame.Â
-He licked his lips when his eyes landed on your undecorated neck. It was as if you were begging for it to be decorated with bites. Surely he could make a nice necklace for you.Â
-Dammit he should have sat closer, students were actually getting up from their booths and moving to any tables that were closer to the stage as you start getting up, the train of fabric in your outfit resembling the top of a shell as it brushes across the ground as you make your way to the floor.Â
-He bites his bottom lip as he sees you making your way around the tables, your voice soft and melodic as the students watch the performance flabbergasted. You are letting your fingers glide against the tables, winking at some of the more bold students who put out their hands so they could touch yours.
-If you were to look at his face you would see no trace of emotion but inside his head he was screaming at you to pass by his table already donât you know anything about customer service?Â
-You finally make eye contact with the table he was sitting at, Azul feeling a shiver go up his spine at how your flirtatious eyes suddenly turned nervous. Nobody else had gotten that look.
-Again, he needed to see you looking at him like that again.Â
-So this is what you were planning. How interesting~Â
-He watched from behind Azul, taking off his coat and laying it on the back of the plush booth as he took in your form. Where had you gotten such a cute outfit, he wondered. The color made you shine like the rarest pearl and every time the light hit you just right he could see the glitter in your eyelids as you started to approach their table.Â
-You made eye contact with him, clearly trying to keep up the act of âmysteriousâ floor show guest but failing as his eyes took you in the closer you got.Â
-The students groan when they see you sit right next to Azul, pressing close to him as he dares to put an arm around your waist and squeeze. Oh he could bet Azul was happy with how jealous all the students looked.Â
-Jade couldnât help the chuckle that escaped him when you took Azulâs hat and shoved it in his face before pulling away as quickly as possible.Â
-He follows your movements as you walk behind him, the sudden hand on his back making him hum in thought as the idea of pinning you right to the back of the booth so you would sing only to him suddenly seeming like the only thing to do in this situation.Â
-You really had no idea what you could awaken in him if you kept playing around.Â
-His eyes meet yours as you start walking away but his hand catches your wrist as he tugs you back to him--!
-But Jade, ever the unpredictable man, only presses his lips to your hand before letting you go.
-You were doing a floor show for the customers after all. Didnât mean that he wouldnât be talking to you later~Â
-Floyd had moved himself to the table closest to the stage, tie undone and smile wider than anyone had ever seen as he watched you pay attention to almost every table. The table he was sitting at had been filled with students who deemed themselves rather lucky to get so close only for them to scram when they saw who was approaching it. Â
-He waves at you when you finally make eye contact with him, licking his lips and smiling as he sees your reluctance to get near him.Â
-Which he didnât mind, the fact that you were so wary of him made you all the more adorable.Â
-You try your best to be as flirty as you had before, merely touching his hand as he holds it out to you but for Floyd that is not enough. The moment your fingers pressed against his palm, he snatched your wrist and brought you to his lap, students gasping as his hands landed on your sides.Â
-Oh the material was so soft! He ran his fingers up and down as you press hand to his chest while you sang the last few notes of the song.Â
-Floyd couldnât help the little giggle as he saw the embarrassment on your face, your hand clearly pushing on his chest but his hands clearly werenât letting you go. What were you going to do, little Shrimp?Â
-His eyes widen at your sudden improvisation, your hands taking his and pressing them to your face so he could cup your cheeks. Instinctively he pulled you closer as the song suddenly stopped---
âFloyd-senpai, I have to go.âÂ
-The whisper is only for him to hear as you catch him off guard with that soft look and pull away, you holding out the last note of the song as if you had planned to be caught by him all along.Â
-He clicks his tongue and leans back, eyes watching you go back up the stage and sitting inside the shell as you pull your legs closer to you before blowing a kiss to the now applauding crowd as Grimm closed the shell.Â
-Surely the kiss had been for him, right? If it had been for any of these other bottom feeders...well no matter. Even if it hadnât been for him, Floyd would make sure to squeeze you real tight the moment you got off stage.Â
-----
You lay down on the cushion as you put your arms over your eyes, groaning as you tried to get your thoughts together.Â
If this worked out the way you thought it would, word of mouth would get around and you would bring around sixty customers so that they could partake in what they had missed tonight.Â
Has it cost you your dignity? Yes.Â
Was the outfit embarrassing? Yes.Â
Did you have to flirt with all three Octavinelle members so they would see that you were serious about finally going to sleep without shivering? Yes and yes.Â
At least it was over.Â
âYo Grimm. Can you open this? I want to change!âÂ
Your hands tap the top of the shell, sighing in relief as it slowly opened.Â
Only for you to yelp as hands pin you down to the cushion, a very familiar face grinning down at you as Floyd laughs merrily.Â
âAhaha~! Nee, that kiss was for me, right Little Shrimpy? You blew that my way, right?âÂ
Jade sighs and steps behind his brother, pulling him up by the collar so that you could get your bearings.Â
âIt was at the customers, Floyd. I believe [Y/N]-san wanted this to be spoken about tomorrow, correct?âÂ
You nod as he lets go of Floyd and holds out his hand for you to take.Â
âWhat an interesting plan...right Azul?âÂ
The Octavinelle dorm leader isnât really looking at you, he is still staring at everything that you had on taking it as much as he could before your voice brought him back. âSo...how did I do?âÂ
Azul blinks before smiling as he steps close and holds out his arm for you to take.Â
âI have yet to see the terms of the contract be met but...we can discuss how you did in my office. Mind telling me how you came up with this plan? âÂ
âY--Yeah! Sure!âÂ
You take Azulâs arm and speak about your thought process, not noticing the grins on the eelâs faces as they hold themselves back until they reach Azulâs office.Â
How nice, it would be the first time you would be staying over at Octavinelle, even if you didnât know it yet. Â

Okay, hi, I love your writing and Iâve seen your post AND IM THIRSTY FOR MAKI X F!/GN!READER AND IDK, SIMPLY WRITE ANYTHING YOU WANT? I DIE FOR PINING??? SLOW BURN??? Gjwjfjdengjsj A little angsty??? They have feeling for each other but reader thinks sheâs in love with Nobara sort of things?? Or something based on THE song SURRENDER?idk rlly, anyway you waâ OR BASED ON ANOTHER SONG: MERCURY BY SLEEPING AT LAST.
Okay Iâm done. Thank you for coming to my tedtalk
Pairing: maki zenin x female!reader
Warnings: none
Word count: 2.4K
I loved this request and I love maki so this fit hand in handđ Sorry this took over a month to write it is very very long compared to anything else Iâve done but I still hope you enjoyâ€ïž
It hadnât been the first time. The first time you sat staring a Maki train with Nobara. Her moves were so swift, much has changed from you and herâs first year.
Panda and Toge sat across from you looking at your moody state, theyâve tried to nudge you to ask out Maki for months now. ây/n theyâre just training thereâs nothing more going onâ, Panda said as you squinted took get a better look at the girls battling. You huffed, âPanda-â. âBonito flakesâ. Toge said with an annoyed look on his face. The two had been experiencing this constant back and forth pining with the both of you for almost a year now. Either they were trying to convince Maki to ask you out or You to ask out Maki.
In your first year Maki was always embarrassed around you. You were much stronger than her and if she was in trouble you were always the one to swoop into save her. She already had motivation to grow in strength but now she had more motivation. She didnât like the embarrassment of being saved. It wasnât your fault of course but she didnât want you to view her as weak.
In your eyes weak was the opposite of what Maki was. To still want to be a sorcerer with her low cursed energy took courage. She was powerful, of someone couldnât see that youâd threatened to beat that fact into their head.
Panda was about to speak again when there was a huge thump. Looking to where Maki and Kugisaki was training your jaw dropped at the image of Maki pining the first year to the ground. Her enamoring voice spoke her win of the match. Toge looked at you and giggled slightly. âWhatâs so funnyâ you said, your face glowing redder than a rose. âSalmon roeâ he said. âI-I do not wish that was me you weirdoâ you grumbled, the bright blush very apparent on your face. Standing up to chase him around Maki looked over at you. She had trained in front of you on purpose. She wanted you to see her, see how much sheâs grown, see her abilities now. It was her way of trying to impress you. She didnât think she could impress you with much else. Instead she saw you pulling at toges ears yelling into them about some nonsense she couldnât hear. Maki sighed in defeat, the amount of attempts she had to get your attention always failed.
Panda looked between the two of you seeing Maki now carrying Nobara bridal style to shoko after seeing her leg was injured. You were still chasing Toge around when you looked up to see Maki carrying Kugisaki. You paused in your tracks. âWhy was she carrying her, she never Carried me like that...â you mumbled words like these until you reached your room. Throwing yourself in your bed you looked to your side. On your nightstand there was a picture with you, Gojo, Yuuta, Panda, Toge, and Maki. Next to it was a Polaroid. A Polaroid of Maki and you on the day you almost confessed to her. You were hugging in the picture, your faces smushed next to each other, smiling and laughing from the event of the fun festival Gojo took everyone to.
Maki left Nobara with shoko and went to get ready to shower. Going through her dresser to grab products and such she picked up a Polaroid from the same day of the picture you had. In hers you were still close to each other laughing just a in a different area. That day she was so close to confessing to you.
The thing is neither of you remember why you didnât go through with your plans. Nervousness, fear of rejection, was there another person? None of you could recall. It just didnât happen and sent Panda and Toge into a grumpy state with Yuuta trying calm the two down.
Youâd taken a nap while Maki showered. Groggily trudging through the hallways to find her. It wasnât as though youâd ignore if she was dating Kugisaki. Simply youâd be jealous...for a very long time. But it would pass at some point...right?
You were snapped from your thoughts when you saw maki walking towards her door. Before you could even wave your hand and say her name she was pulled into her dorm by a hand you could only tell was Nobaraâs. You paused for a moment and slowly pulled your hand down. Turning back to walk to your room you bumped into Megumi. âSorry y/nâ he said. You apologized as well but Megumi grabbed your arm. âI was actually supposed to get you, panda asked for youâ. You sighed hoping it wasnât training he was asking for.
When you arrived you saw panda, toge, itadori and now Megumi sitting in seats. âYou humans and you complicated feelingsâ panda grumbled with his arms crossed. Toge following suit imitating him.
In Makiâs room Nobara sat her on her bed. âWhatâs wrong Nobaraâ Maki asked eager to go find you after what ever Nobara had to say. Nobara put her foot down. âYou know that you have to do it soon, itâs obvious that she likes you backâ âwith all the spying you make me do itâs very clearâ. Maki looked away. She wanted to believe it but it came off as weird that someone would find her attractive. Yes she was confident in herself but the only thing she couldnât see was someone wanting a relationship with her. Especially you. Nobara huffed âGojo wants to take us to a festival this year, I heard that happened last year toâ. âYes he didâ Maki replied looking back at Nobara. âAnd you told me you had an elaborate plan last year to get y/n correct?â. Nobara had been Makiâs wing girl as soon as she realized Makiâs crush on you.
Maki hunched over, nodded and sighed. It would be a perfect time to try again but could she really pull it off? She wants to. She truly does. But the fear and embarrassment of rejection still lingers over her as it does you. âFine Iâll do it but-â. âNo buts y/n is head over heels for you and will say yes. Sheâll be all-â queue Nobara making lovey doves faces imitating you in a hysterical way.
Now here you were being pressured into re trying your plan to ask out Maki by the boys. Toge spewing nonsense with a grumpy face, Megumi sitting back not paying attention, itadori being enthusiastic about everything Toge and panda were saying.
âI donât know...she might say no or worse hate meâ you admitted. The fear of Maki hating you was a nightmare.
Finally Megumi stood up. âY/n your just dragging it out. Do you want to date Maki or not?â. âof course I doâ you mumbled. âThen THATS all it will take, Maki likes you and you can beat us all over the head if she somehow says noâ. âNow gojo is taking everyone to some festival, thatâs when you should do itâ. He said before beginning to walk off. Everyone looked at him stunned. No one would have thought Megumi would contribute let alone put yourself in a confident mood ready to execute something youâve been meaning to do for months.
Itâs been a week since you and Maki decided to prepare to ask out the other. The week was fairly normal, Maki and you hung out and trained. Not a day went by without the two of you thinking about today, the day of the festival.
Everyone walked there considering panda couldnât fit in the only car available (letâs pretend a panda walking and talking In public is normal here)
There were games, food, rides. Everyone was pretty scattered out. Gojo around the snack stands, The boys with you around the games minus Megumi who had decided to go eat in peace somewhere else, and Maki with Nobara by the gift shopsâ. You looked for Maki around everywhere as it was getting dark, you wanted to spend some normal time around her before the confession. Once you spotted her across the large area you waved and got her attention. Itadori and panda wishing you luck while Toge did the same but still stared holes into your head as you jogged over to Maki making sure you didnât turn back.
Maki looked over to Nobara who had paid for her things. âGo, when the time is right youâll knowâ. Nobara said putting her thumbs up with a large smile. Maki gave her a final hug before turning around to see you already there.
You rubbed the back of your neck awkwardly, starting to get nervous. A hug didnât mean dating but people who do date usually hug-.
Trying to push down your nerves you greeted Maki and went off the play games and go on rides.
You almost completely forgot all your worries as you won prizes from games, got dizzy from rides, and ate various sweets with Maki. The entire time Maki was becoming more flushed in the face. Everything you did set her to look at you in awe. Often catching herself staring at you before you could see yourself.
The night was coming out and the both of you were reminded of your tasks.
Maki was about to speak when you did first. âCan we...go over thereâ. You pointed behind her. Maki looked back to see the vast area with many blossomed trees and grass. She nodded...but what could you want to go over there for?
You sat and patted next to you. She sat down next to you and you mumbled somethings he couldnât hear. âHm?â
âCan I ask you something maki?â You said more clearer. âAlright, about whatâ now Maki was concerned. Did you catch her staring at you? Did she freak you out? Did you know about her feelings and came her to let her down easy?
You waited a moment. âWhat is I-â âare you and Kugisaki dating?â. You asked bringing your knees up to your face slowly squeezing them tighter. Maki looked at you shocked. âhuh, What made you think that?â She said completely baffled. you perked up âwait so your not?â You asked your jaw now slack open. âNo?? Seriously when did we ever seem that wayâ. You let out a huge sigh falling backwards onto the cold grass. Maki didnât know what to say. How does she ask you out from here? All she could do was go for it.
âY/n I think-â âwell the true reason I asked you here for was...â you took a deep breath it was now or wait months more to try again. âI have feelings for you, like romantic feelingsâ. You turned away from her as you said it. The silence was so loud until you heard small laughs coming from Maki.
Now she was laughing at you, great. âUm just ignore tha-â you began as you started to get up ready to run off for a while out of humiliation. But before you could you felt Makiâs slender fingers softly grab your chin, pulling your face closer to hers in for a kiss. It last fir no longer than 5 seconds but when you pulled away for face could be compared to the reddest tomato known to man.
âI canât believe you beat me to it...or really said it at allâ Maki said laying her hands on yours. âYou- wait...WHATâ. You blinked fast, was this a dream? A joke? Did you really just get to kiss the girl youâve had feelings for almost since you met her.
âI planned to tell you the same news y/n, but I guess we both had the same plansâ. Maki looked at you her blush very noticeable making you heat up more.
After a couple more minutes of explanation you were both in each otherâs grasp laughing and continuing to talk about how this was supposed to happen long before today.
Spying on you from afar was the rest of the group who watched the whole thing go down even Megumi. Toge did dances with yuuji, panda clapping his hands (paws?), and Megumi with a slight smile on his face.
They were happy that the two of you were finally happy together now.

I saw @little-piece-of-tamlinâs a tiny stupid geraskier doodle which I love with all my heart bc itâs so cute and got inspired to write a little something. I hope thatâs ok
fandom: the witcher
Pairing: Geralt/Jaskier
Modern Au
Word count: 2k
âItâll rain today,â Vesemir had said, âYou better take a raincoat.â
Geralt should have known better than to ignore his advice. But in his defence, the sky had been completely clear when he had left the house with Ciri to take her to her friend Daraâs house.
The whole way there, she had chattered excitedly, tugging on his hand to get him to walk faster. The only time she had stopped, had been when they had come across a busker standing at the corner of a street.
Suddenly, she hadnât been that worried about hurrying anymore and she had refused to leave until they had listened to at least five songs.
âYou have to give him money, dad!â she demanded and pointed at the empty guitar case that was propped open in front of the busker.
Geralt made a grimace. He didnât have his wallet with him â why would he, when he was just supposed to walk Ciri over to her friend and go home straight away again â but there was no doubt Ciri would argue with he told her so. And he supposed, he should probably be a good role model to her by paying the street artist, even though Geralt couldnât help but think that his too bright smile and too happy songs were obnoxious.
The sooner he gave him some money, the sooner, he would get Ciri to continue on their way. So Geralt rummaged through his pockets, thankfully coming up with some spare change that he had forgotten was even in there and tossed it to the busker.
The pathetically few coins he had tossed were the only ones in the case. The sight almost made Geralt feel bad for the busker.
The buskerâs singing didnât stop, but his face brightened and his impossibly blue eyes lit up when he nodded to Geralt in thanks.
Geraltâs mouth went dry and he was glad that Ciri was still holding his hand, for suddenly, he didnât know what to do with his hands.
He turned away briskly.
âCome on, Ciri, we should get going.â He gave her hand a small squeeze. âDaraâs probably waiting already.â
She pouted, but nodded. Before she turned away, she waved at the busker, who gave her a brilliant smile.
Geralt would have forgotten all about the busker, if it hadnât started raining just as they got to Daraâs house. What started off as a light drizzle quickly turned into a downpour.
Geralt cursed silently. He didnât even have his phone with him to call one of his brothers to come pick him up. At least Ciri had gotten inside before the worst of the rain had started.
Geralt threw a glare at the sky that had somehow turned from being bright blue to being a dark grey.
A low thunder rumbled and Geralt hurried along to get back home as quickly as he could, even though he was already soaked to the bone.
His face was set in a grim frown the entire time and he kept his eyes on the pavement before him, watching as the puddles soaked his boots.
âHey!â
The shout made Geraltâs head snap up. His eyebrows rose in surprise without his permission, when he saw the person that had called out to him and that was now waving at him enthusiastically.
It was the busker from before, sitting beneath one of those umbrellas some cafés put up when the sun was shining too brightly.
Maybe they had forgotten to close it when the rain had started â or they didnât care. Geralt had no idea how those things worked.
His steps faltered. Quickly, he threw a glance over his shoulder to see if the busker was waving to someone else, but Geralt was the only one on this street. At least the only one still out and about in the rain. Everyone else had fled into cafés or stores to hide from the rain.
Geralt swallowed, his fists clenching and unclenching at his sides, unsure what to do. He really, truly didnât want to sit with this stranger who was still waving at him like an idiot.
But then again, the busker was sitting where he was dry while Geralt was standing in the rain unable to decide what to do, so really, who was the real idiot here?
Though inwardly he let out a sigh, knowing he was going to regret this, he walked over to the busker, sitting down on the chair opposite of him.
âHello there, stranger. Iâm Jaskier. You saw me earlier? I was the one playing the guitar.â He gestured to the case he had stowed away beneath the table to keep it safe from the rain. âI was hoping to see you again to thank you properly.â Jaskierâs smile grew so big, Geralt was wondering how it didnât hurt his cheeks. âGuess I got really lucky that it started to rain, huh?â
Geralt scowled. âIf my daughter hadnât wanted to listen to you play for so long I would have gotten home before it started to rain.â
The busker tilted his head to the side. âOh, if you enjoyed my singing that much, I should probably play some more, hm? As an apology for letting you get caught in the rain.â
âYou really donât ââ Geralt began, but Jaskier had already bent down to retrieve his guitar.
For a brief second, Geralt was tempted to just get up and leave again. A single glance at the rain made him reconsider and slump back in his chair.
When Jaskier began playing, Geralt had to admit that it didnât sound terrible. If he had been in a better mood, he would have even enjoyed it, but as it was, he wasnât very inclined to think any positive thoughts about Jaskier. It didnât matter that his eyes crinkled at the side when he smiled while singing or that the mob of brown hair that had been so fluffy before was no plastered to his forehead in a way that made Geralt want to reach out and push it out of his eyes.
Abruptly, Geralt turned away. The avoidance of eye contact didnât last very long. As soon as Jaskier reached the chorus of the song, Geraltâs eyes snapped back up to him.
âWhy does it always rain on me?â Geralt asked incredulously. âSeriously?â
Jaskierâs tongue peeked through his lips as he winked at Geralt. âItâs fitting, isnât it?â
Geralt grunted.
Jaskierâs fingers stilled on his guitar and he let out an overly dramatic sigh. âYouâre a tougher audience than your daughter.â His eyes lit up with mischief. âBut Iâm sure I can find some song that you like.â
âI doubt it.â
âIt that a challenge?â
Geralt didnât answer, but he doubted Jaskier needed one anyway. The busker began to play again, giving Geralt a cheeky wink and his smile grew wider with every song that deepened Geraltâs frown.
Itâs raining men.
Fool in the rain.
Raindrops keep falling on my head.
Umbrella.
Blame it on the rain.
After the third song, Geralt was ready to bang his head on the table and block his ears with his hands.
Mercifully, he was saved, when a waitress came by.
âExcuse me,â she said, looking sorry. âThe other patrons have complained about your playing. And weâre not really allowed to let anyone sit here unless they buy at least one drink. So I need you to put that guitar away and buy something if you want to stay here.â
âOh.â Jaskierâs face fell and the fingers that had just been plucking the strings rubbed together in a gesture that should have probably been soothing for himself. âOf course. Sorry.â
Carefully, he put his guitar away and grabbed the menu lying on the table. Geralt should have been relieved that the playing had stopped, but the sight of Jaskier, dejected and still dripping from the rain made something in his chest twist. He pressed his lips together.
âSorry,â he said as well and pushed his chair back, making it scratch against the ground. His skin felt icy just thinking about going back out in the rain and a small part of him felt bad leaving Jaskier alone like this. Granted, Geralt hadnât been thinking nice things about his singing either, but it was one thing to sit there suffering in silence and another thing entirely, asking a waitress to kick Jaskier out if he didnât stop playing.
An alarmed expression flickered over Jaskierâs face and he grabbed Geraltâs sleeve when he made to turn away.
âWhere are you going?â he asked. âDidnât you hear the thunder before? You canât just go out there.â
Geralt shrugged, telling himself the concern of this stranger didnât feel nice.
âDonât have any money.â
Something shifted in Jaskierâs expression. A look of utter disbelieve and almost awe crossed his face, before he plastered on a smile that definitely didnât made Geraltâs chest clench.
âDonât worry, my friend,â Jaskier said lightly, tugging at his arm until he sat back down again. Geralt could have easily freed himself, but for some reason he didnât understand, he did as Jaskier bid him. âIâll pay for your coffee.â
Geralt stared at him. âWhy would you do that?â
Jaskier shrugged, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. âTechnically, Iâm just paying you back. You did give me your money before.â
Geralt blinked. âThat wasnât nearly enough to pay for coffee.â
âDoesnât matter.â Jaskier lowered his eyes and drummed a quick little rhythm on the table. âIt was nice. I could really need someone being nice to me today.â
Jaskier gave him a small smile, which Geralt returned without thinking about it. It wasnât often that people looked at him and didnât make assumptions. They certainly didnât call him nice. The only people who really stuck around were his brothers and Vesemir. He was trying to do good by Ciri, but he could still hear the other parents whisper whenever he brought her to preschool. They judged him for being a single dad, for having scars that surely meant that his life was too rough to have a child in it, for having eyes that freaked out some of the kids.
Jaskier hadnât just started smiling at him when Ciri had urged him to give him some change. His smile hadnât faltered, despite Geralt scowling at him, despite him not responding to anything he said.
Yet, he had called Geralt over to save him from the rain. And now, even after having spent enough time with him that he must have realised that Geralt wasnât good company, he still offered to buy him coffee as if it was nothing.
Something warm and fuzzy spread through his chest that almost chased away the cold clinging to his skin from the rain.
Geraltâs mouth was dry and he felt awkward saying it, but just this once, he took a chance. âI could pay for your coffee next time.â
âNext time?â Jaskier perked up, eyes wide.
Geralt shifted uncomfortably in his seat. âIf you wanted to.â
âIâd love to.â Jaskier narrowed his eyes playfully and leaned forward on his elbows. âBut maybe I should first know some things about the handsome man who just invited me out for coffee first.â
Geralt grunted, the corners of his lips twitching up. âWhat do you want to know?â
âWell, your name for starters,â Jaskier laughed. âAnd your favourite song. As much fun as it was trying to find out how long it would take you to tell me to stop, I would really like to know what to play to maybe make you smile again.â
Geralt blinked. âGeralt,â he said dumbly. A grin spread across his face. âAnd I would definitely smile if you played Here Comes the Sun when it stops to rain just to piss of those people in there some more.â
Jaskier let out a startled laugh that made Geraltâs stomach flip. It wasnât often that people laughed at his jokes. His humour was too dry or just plainly not funny enough. But somehow, seeing Jaskier throw his head back laughing at something that wasnât even that funny, Geralt wanted to make him laugh like that again.
When the rain finally stopped, Jaskier didnât play Here Comes the Sun, but neither of them even noticed. They were too preoccupied talking about everything that came to mind. What started out as polite smalltalk had quickly turned more personal and Geralt was surprised to find out that he really wanted to get to know Jaskier better.
They talked about Jaskierâs struggle with not feeling good enough when it came to his music and Geraltâs struggles with being a single dad. It was surprisingly easy to open up to Jaskier, who didnât laugh at him for his doubts, but told him how from the little he had seen of Ciri, she had seemed happy with Geralt.
When they finally left the café again and parted ways, Geralt promised to come by with Ciri again soon and listen to him play again.
--
A year later, they went to the very same cafĂ© again, this time hand in hand. Almost as per tradition, Jaskier started signing again, though this time he hadnât taken his guitar with him, far too eager to hold Geraltâs hand the whole time through, much to Geraltâs amusement, which only grew, when he recongnised the song.
You are my Sunshine.
Geralt knew Jaskier mainly did this to tease Geralt â teasing him with his songs was a habit Jaskier would probably never lose and secretly, Geralt loved it â but just as every other time, Geralt didnât tell Jaskier to stop singing in irritation. No, by now, he had a far better way to get Jaskier to stop.
He leaned forward and seized Jaskierâs lips in a kiss, effectively swallowing the song.
âYou were right,â Geralt said, when they pulled away again.
âI usually am.â Jaskier smirked and pressed another quick kiss against Geraltâs lips. âBut pray tell, what exactly have I been right about?â
Geralt rolled his eyes in fond exasperation. âWe really did get lucky by getting caught in the rain.â

My king au headcannon Part two
So this is the follow up to this post Which is a headcanon for this au created by @rondoel Enjoy!
Something to think about The king was meditating. He was trying to familiarize himself with the mindscape again, get a better feeling of it and see what his halves had done since the split. He was sorely disappointed. There were pages upon pages of ideas, but he found no evidence of them in the fantasy realm. No traces of the epic quests the âlightâ half had envisioned, despite how well worked out they appeared. An âUltimate Storytimeâ should have left traces in the kingdom. Remus at least lived out his ideas even if they were only ever half formed and lacked substance beyond the initial impulse that brought them about. The results of these outbursts werenât all that impressive either. He didnât examine the ideas too closely. Obviously his perfectionistic half had abandoned them for a reason and so they werenât worth his time. The one named Roman had spent some time in the fantasy realm, but he didnât considered it his main duty. Instead heâd wasted time on crafting âideasâ and âbondingâ with the others. Even the impulsive Remus had prioritized interacting with Deceit over expressing himself. Disgusting. Not that he could truly fault either of his halves. Other than his purpose every trace of him had been purged from their minds during the split. They hadnât known to distrust the others the way he knew they shouldâve. Obviously the others were to blame for all this.
As he thought of them he could feel his ministerâs energy surging and subsiding in subtle burst and raging waves. One of Romanâs nickname for him âStormy Knightâ seemed to suit the boy quite well at the moment. The minister was mostly alone, aside from morality. Someone had to babysit him he supposed. Suddenly he became aware of music⊠something strange yet familiar. âDisney. Medley.â A faint memory offered him. He remembered Disney. It was his aspiration to create worlds and adventures just as amazing for Thomas to escape to when the real world inevitably bored him. Clearly he hadnât been gone long enough for that to change. Though he didnât recognize the melody that was currently playing, even though he could tell that it wasnât something obscure and nearly forgotten to Thomas. The entire imagination responded to the melody as if it was an old friend. Almost as if it was born here even. There were voices singing, a magnificent harmony. Powerful and foreboding. He followed the sound of the voices and soon saw a structure appear. As he approached he found it was a massive statue expertly carved from marble. Center stage stood a figure he recognized as Thomas holding his hands in front of him to form a heart. A brilliant smile on his face. It was heartwarming to see his boy like that. To Thomasâ left stood grown Morality with one arm thrown over his shoulder and another pulling the hooded side, Anxiety, his minister, into the group. The young side allowed it with a small smirk and gentle eyes directed at their protĂ©gĂ©. On Thomasâ right stood Logic, a steady hand on the boyâs shoulder as he adjusted his glasses, which did not conceal the fond look on the manâs face. On Logicâs right stood Deceit, his back slightly turned to the rest and adjusting his hat, but also with a soft, caring expression gracing his features. Then right behind Thomas, standing slightly taller than they would have in reality, seemingly standing on a stage behind the group, but close enough to still be part of the ensemble, was him. Or the two sides that had been him for a while. Roman looked regal and was posing as though he had not a care in the world, his eyes proudly overseeing his subjects. Not minding the presence of Remus who was hanging of his âbrotherâsâ shoulders and making a face. It was an idyllic picture that never was and now never could be. There was beauty in itâs tragic impossibility. At the feet of the stone depictions were stone letters. Fam in cursive and then in big bold lines ILY. And leaning against the L was the minister, singing the song that had lured King away from his meditation. The shadows around him were aiding in his musical endeavor drifting around him and the statue. King took in the marvel once more, wondering how the nervous side had managed to create such a blessing with what shouldâve been a cruel curse for at least a few more days before King would grant the young one his council and guidance. He hadnât enjoyed being cruel to him. Not entirely. Sure, he had opposed creativity in the past and deserved to be disciplined. But king also knew how integral he was to the process. Romanâs discoveries regarding that werenât lost to him. He couldnât silence Anxiety completely. He would not get Thomas to go on adventures at all if he did so. But he had to teach him his place now, before he got any ideas of fighting him. The minister had been about to try just that and might have been successful too if heâd gone all out at once. But luckily he seemed unaware of his own abilities, or at least unwilling to use them on what he still thought to be the twins heâd known all his life. Alas heâd never get the opportunity again. âIt all can be sold!â the shadows chorused around the teen-like side, captivating baby Morality with their movements as the little one clutched to the dark uniform and distracting King from his musings. âAs a specimen yes Iâm intimidating!â One voice continued, drifting around the side who was swaying to the music playing in his headphones with his eyes closed, holding onto Morality and then the dark clad side sang himself. âYou can blame my friends on the ooootheeeer siiiiiiiiiide.â And just like that the shadows dispersed. Mostly anyway. They still swirled around the minister, but they were more of a dark aura than when they originally manifested. Anxiety seemed to be in better spirits than when he came to offer his ridiculous apology to Roman. King barely resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the memory. What a waste of time. Still it had been sincere, at least it seemed to be. And King wasnât completely insensitive. He could understand that it would be hard for this young one to let go of his halves when he had never known them as one. Perhaps, King could cut him a little slack. Though he would have to remain vigilant⊠Hmmm, why did that word feel so odd when thinking about⊠Right, Virgil. Everyone had names now. Not that he cared much for those. Names were too⊠Names were for friends, allies. He didnât need a name, nor did his subjects. Lest any of them forget who was in charge. King wouldnât. Never again. The infant noticed that they were no longer alone in the room and tugged at Anxietyâs hair to get his attention. In response Thomasâ guardian pulled off his headphones and looked down at the heart. âWhatâs wrong popstar⊠or⊠Well, doesnât really fit right now I guess,â Anxiety chuckled a little sadly. âGuess Iâm more the dad now than you, huh?â he mused. âWhen this is all over, I promise Iâll never complain about you treating me like your kid again.â There was an uneasiness forming in Kingâs stomach. Anxiety was close with Morality, both Roman and Remus remembered that. But⊠how close was Morality with Anxiety? King knew that their âmoral compassâ could be as two faced as Deceit. No, this could be part of an elaborate plan to gain his trust, heâd fallen for it once before. And of course theyâd send Anxiety to do their dirty work now that all of them had already shown him their true colors. Little Morality pointed at King and Anxiety looked up, curious at first and then his eyes widened in fear. He put the child behind him and stood in a strange mixture of a respectful bow and a defensive stance. Arms slightly spread to shield his friend and head raised so he didnât quite let his eyes leave Kingâs frame. âIâŠIâm sorry if I was too loud,â Anxiety offered with trembling voice, assuming heâd angered his king someway. Good. King approached, not sure if he was in the mood to scold or to praise just yet, but stopped about three steps in front of Anxiety as his foot hit something. He looked down and saw that the floor surrounding his minister was covered in sketches. He looked up at Anxiety with a raised brow, curious to hear what had brought on this little storm of creativity. And he found him staring at the sketches around them in horror. Then he seemingly felt the structure behind him, he turned and looked up in horror, trembling even harder. He looked back at King with wide eyes. âIâŠI didnât mean toâŠâ he started. âThen I look forward to see what you create for me when you intend to do so young one,â King mutters calmly, as he bids one of the drawings to come to his hand. As far as he can tell itâs two children playing in a forest. âTell me about this one boy,â he instructs as he shows Anxiety the drawing. The side takes the sketch with a frown and looks at it for a moment before a small smile of recognition appears on his face. âIâd manifested for about two months. Remus felt it was about time I came on an adventure,â he starts explaining, and as he does the drawing rises up and gains colors and details that werenât there before. Anxiety didnât seem to notice, too captivated by his own memory as he described how freaked out he was by the forest and all its creepy creatures. Remus never let a single one touch him though. Still, it was stressful for him and he didnât come along as often as Remus would like. The painting showed two preteens, Remus and Anxiety, the later clutching a comfort item, pillow or blanket, King wasnât sure, maybe it was a stuffed animal. They were running around and laughing. But in their shadows Anxiety was curled up in a ball and Remus was making a gesture as if heâd just popped out and screamed âbooâ. A lovely memory with a shadow side. But that was the nicest thing Anxiety could create with the power King had granted. Once the story was done and the painting finished, King snapped his fingers and conjured a dark wooden frame with a vine pattern around it and hung it on a non-existent wall. âIâm sorry, I know you said to get rid of the feelings, but I⊠I canât⊠I always mess up like this please IâŠâ Anxiety flinched when King reached out for him. Curling into himself, expecting another curse or some other punishment perhaps. Which is probably why his posture relaxed and his face was overcome with confused surprise when all he received was a brief pat on his hair. âYou may not have gotten rid of those feelings but you did something even better,â King laid a hand on Anxietyâs shoulder and looked down on him. âYou made something out of them. I am very pleased with you,â he informed his disciple. Anxiety looked up at him confused. âReally?â he asked, his voice breaking over the single word. Before King could answer, a displeased cooing pulled Anxietyâs attention away. He turned around and picked up the infant who immediately latched onto his neck and stared at King over his shoulder. Clearly the infant retained enough of Moralityâs adult thoughts to be wary of him. Good it wouldnât be a proper curse if the traitor wasnât aware of the danger King posed to him and his precious family. King grinned menacingly at Morality, hoping itâd confirm the childâs worst fears about his intentions for who he apparently considered a son. What could be worse than agonizing over the fact that your sins would result in an innocent paying for them? For that innocent to be your child of course. âPlease Pat, behave alright?â Anxiety muttered as he got up and turned back to the king. âSorry⊠Your majesty. Heâs a bit clingy,â the young man offered nervously. âNot your fault. I donât quite understand why Logic and Deceit would leave the care for such a fussy child to their youngest.â Not quite true, King could perfectly see how they thought they had to concentrate on finding a weapon against him that they hadnât tried already. But still. One would think that the two oldest should be in charge of protecting both their young ones, instead of letting them wander off into the territory of their enemy. If Anxiety had failed to entertain him with his tale, who knows what he wouldâve done to amuse himself during this second visit? Maybe heâd put morality in a bit of a dilemma⊠He might still do so if he ever needed for Anxiety to see that his âdadâ didnât love him as much as he always claimed. âTaking care of him keeps my mind occupied. I donât want to give Thomas nightmares or anxiety attacks. He doesnât deserve to suffer for our messes,â Anxiety explained. King might be mistaken, but that almost sounded accusatory. He elected to ignore it. Once his rule was properly reestablished, he could revisit the subject if at all necessary, which he doubted. âWell, creating art seems to do the trick just as well,â he mused as he called forth another picture. Anxiety guessed what he wanted, looked at the picture and started to talk about the movie night and a popcorn fight, then a duel with cardboard swords and laughing about memories of middle school. The colors once again revealed a pleasant day, with a shadow of self-doubt and fear of abandonment. The shadows showed Anxiety pleading on his knees while Roman threatened him with a sword. This time the frame King made was golden and held roses. âCâŠCan I ask something milord,â Anxiety asked timidly. âQuestions are always welcomed in the realm of creativity,â King decreed. Questions created possibilities. âWhat happened? Before the split I mean? The otherâs wonât ever tell me.â That surprised King. And from the way Morality stiffened, he had to assume it was the truth. Theyâd really not taken the chance to sway Anxietyâs opinion in their favor? For a moment he considers spinning a grand tale of betrayal and heartbreak, but he found the very thought of recalling the details of the events leading up to the split⊠unpleasant. âI trusted them and they turned against me because they disagreed with my vision for Thomas,â he informed Anxiety calmly, hoping it was enough for now. âIâm sorry. That⊠That is terrible,â he whispered hugging Morality closer. The young minister couldnât see it but there were tears in Moralityâs eyes. Which pleased King. Let the bespectacled traitor be afraid this may end up being the last hug heâll ever receive from his precious Anxiety. Was this why they didnât tell him? Because they knew that there was no spin they could give to their deeds that wouldnât destroy the trust theyâd built with the one among them who already feared being betrayed. âI⊠It was a long time ago. I think⊠Logan seemed very ashamed of what happened. Even Janus seems to feel bad. Iâm sure⊠canât we allâŠâ Anxiety struggled to express his desires, but a new drawing showed what he wanted. King and Logic shaking hands amidst the others, all back to normal and smiling relieved. Faint shadows of Roman and Remus with an arm around one anotherâs shoulders right behind King. The fact that his ministerâs powers had conjured it showed that the desire felt impossible. King dismissed this drawing in favor of another. Anxiety sighed, accepting that the subject was finished, and continued to regale him with stories of the twins. Sometimes it was a sad memory where the shadows revealed his care and worry for them both. Like a fight over a failed audition where shadow Anxiety was trying to patch up shadow Roman. Or a fight about a nightmare where the shadow of Anxiety was embracing Remus. Then memories of the otherâs came. A debate about negative thoughts where shadow Logic laid a hand on shadow Anxietyâs shoulder as a gesture of pride. A staring match with Deceit but their shadows were reaching for each other. One memory had no shadows. The âlightsâ were in Anxietyâs domain and reaching out for him as he sat huddled in on himself on the ground. The image was conflicted enough on itâs own. Then King picked up a drawing of Morality. âThatâs the first time you came to talk to me remember Pat?â Virgil coed to the child whoâd been rather quiet during the creation of this gallery. Anxiety recalled how heâd been upset about another fight with Roman and heâd come over and sat with him in silence. Then heâd offered him one of his cookies. It had surprised Anxiety, he knew how much Morality loved his cookies. Sharing one was his standard gesture of love and appreciation. But Anxiety felt like he didnât deserve either at the time. He felt trapped in a role he didnât want to play. And because of Morality talking to him that day, for the first time, he thought that maybe he didnât have to be. Anxiety talked more about how the thought was quickly dismissed as unrealistic but King found that it was hard to focus. The colors revealed a painting of a side being offered a hand by Morality. He didnât even notice the shadows this time. It was like he was trapped in his own memories. Then suddenly, he was back in the present and heard something beside him. A wailing child and someone gasping for air like theyâd ran a marathon at full speed. He looked down and found Anxiety curled up in a ball, rocking back and forth with a crying Morality sitting next to him clutching onto his arm. Before he could wonder what had happened he could feel the others approaching at high speed. He stepped back, not wanting to be found too close to the distressed side. He could not allow them to think for even a moment, that he felt a second of worry for the minister. He didnât, but he didnât need the implications of such a show of weakness to bring his strength into question. âPatton! Virgil!â Deceit called out, causing Morality to calm down and just let out a few more sniffles. King set up a disinterested mask and turned to the approaching sides. âOh good, deal with this. They bore me,â he drawled calmly as he stepped aside. He was barely acknowledged which he normally would take offense in, but heâd let it slide until he knew what had happened just now. And if it had anything to do with that terrible feeling that had struck him when he saw Anxietyâs drawing. Logic kneeled next to Anxiety and Deceit spoke with Logicâs voice. âVirgil, can you hear us?â The boy nodded. âMay we touch you?â Another nod and Logic placed his hands on the sideâs shoulders. âBreath Virgil, in for 4, hold for 7 out for 8, you can do it.â One more nod and the side started to follow the rhythm that was tapped on his shoulders, stuttering trough the 4th count of holding his breath. âThatâs alright, try again.â King observed as the two patiently helped Anxiety to breathe normally again. Somewhere along the line the troubled side started to whisper âsorry,â and âso stupidâ. âYou are not stupid, your feelings are valid and we are here to help you with them. We shouldnât have left you on your own. Especially not with him around,â Deceit growled, now in his own voice, before turning to King. âI donât care what you do to me, but leave Virgil out of this! He has nothing to do with this.â Before king could retort. Claim the responsibility and remind Deceit that heâll play with his minister however he likes, the boy spoke up himself. âNot his fault. Just, random attack,â he muttered. Deceit and King looked down and found Anxiety holding onto Logic with Morality trying his best to stand on wobbly legs while holding onto the purple sash adorning the minster uniform. Logic and Morality were staring at him accusatory, but Anxiety was pleading with Deceit. âYou donât have to defend him Virgil. We know what heâs like⊠And weâll do a better job at protecting you now. I swear. Let us look out for you for once, please,â Deceit pleaded. So interesting. For all Anxietyâs fears of being abandoned and betrayed, the others seemed to fear for his safety before their own. Had they changed? Or had Anxiety not yet given them sufficient reason to be muzzled? Or was it his drastic decision of muzzling himself that had made them cautious of messing with his part of their duties? âIâm not. Jan look at me. Youâd know if I was lying. He was just listening to me. He didnât do anything bad. I promise.â Deceit frowned confused. âHe didnât do this to harm you? To cause you to createâŠâ Finally Deceit really looked at what King and Anxiety had been working on and the statue Anxiety had done all by himself. âVirgil whatâŠâ âI donât know, I was listening to music and all this just sort of happened. His majesty was helping me finish some drawings,â he explained, confusing King. Was he⊠whatâs the term? Covering for him? Then Anxiety got up, picking up Morality and looking at Logic who followed his movements, hands hovering around him. As if he were afraid that the younger side would fall apart at any moment. âPlease, just go back alright, Iâll be fine. Thanks for helping but you should focus on making sure Thomas is alright,â Anxiety explained bravely, not quite looking at the others. Had recalling all his doubts and fears made him suspicious of the others? This could benefit King greatly. âRun along now. And take Morality. I have matters to discuss with my minister. In private,â King informed Logic and Deceit. Anxiety looked from King back to his tutor and confidant and offered him Morality. Logic shook his head with wide eyes. âLogan, itâs alright. You look after Pat for a minute. Iâll be back soon. Just⊠Please trust me?â Logic hesitated, sighed in defeat and took the child. He moved to leave, but paused. He turned and laid a hand on Anxietyâs shoulder, a moment passed while the two held each otherâs gaze. Anxiety nodded and patted Logicâs hand. âI will be safe. When am I ever not?â Something that would have been a chuckle rippled through Logicâs chest as he stepped away and started walking back to the commons, glancing back every ten steps or so. âVirgil⊠IâŠâ Deceit started, unable to finish the thought. âI know. Iâll be okay.â And with that final assurance and a distrustful look towards King the last of the traitors left. âWhy?â King wondered. It seemed obvious to him that whatever Anxiety just went through was actually meant for him. And not only had he taken the hit, he had covered for him as well. âIâm anxiety, taking on the insecurities and fears of the others is part of my job. I donât take it all, just the really bad bits when I can take it. And⊠it took me forever to open up to the others about my own attacks. It wasnât my place to share about yours. Itâs nothing personal. Just me being professional I guess,â he shrugged casually. King allowed himself a small smirk and once again reached out to pat Anxietyâs hair. Once more the boyâs first instinct was to flinch, but he still let him do as he pleased. âWell done my boy. You have potential,â he told him before returning his attention to another drawing, leaving the one of Morality frameless. Later he might tell the little one a bit more about the betrayal. But first. He needed to get to know him better. âNow how about this one.âBeing petted like a dog was degrading, humiliating. Trying to not just be civil towards him but formal and respectful was torture. But it was better than what he feared would happen every time the King moved his hand towards him. Virgil didnât like being changed against his will and this king would do as he pleased with him. Which is why he had to keep him happy and away from the others. He ignored the urge to smile every time he received the kingâs praise. He is not going to develop Stockholm Syndrome just because off a few half-baked complements. This guy is still a threat to Thomas⊠Even if the others, maybe made a mistake in the past and have a hard time owning up to that right now. Fact remained that Virgilâs job was to keep everyone safe. That meant making them not want to decapitate the king over an anxiety attack he hadnât triggered on purpose. Still⊠What had triggered the attack?

Not Good For You || JJ Maybank
Your disapproving father gets into JJâs head and leads him to believe that he isnât good enough for you. JJ, believing your fatherâs words, tries to end things but youâre not giving up without a fight.
You watch in disbelief as a handcuffed JJ gets shoved into the back of the police truck. Kiara stands next to you, equally as shocked, while Pope stands across from the two of you, next to his dad. The three of you watch helplessly as Shoupe gets in the truck and drives away.
Pope starts anxiously walking around grabbing at his hat and then suddenly takes it off and chucks it at the ground, âShit!â He yells before storming off.
âPope? Pope!â His dad calls before running after him.
âFuck fuck fuck fuck fuck,â You mutter over and over, digging your hands in your hair, âWhy the fuck did he do that?! He knew damn well it wasnât him who sank that stupid boat!â
âBecause itâs JJ,â Kiara replies, âOf course heâd take the blame for Pope, heâs selfless like that. Heâs always protecting his friends.â
You sigh, âWell sometimes I hate him for it. God heâs probably freaking out right now.â
âHey, Iâm sure heâll be fine. Heâs tough.â Kie assures you softly and you nod.
âI sure hope so. Hey I should probably get home, itâs only a matter of time before my dad finds out and if Iâm not close by heâll have a fit.â She nods, knowing how your dad is, and the two of you say your goodbyes before you get into you car and drive the short way back to Figure Eight.
The thing about being a kook and dating a pogue is that everybody judges you. They all think that youâre making a mistake by dating JJ and that someday heâll end up pulling you into whatever trouble heâs gotten himself into. Itâs part of the reason why, although you live the kook lifestyle, you still prefer to hang out with the pogues. Youâre kind of like a half kook/half pogue.
Your father, however, is probably the most angry about it. He would disapprove of anybody who isnât rich, pogue or not, and the fact that JJ is always causing mischief makes it worse. He keeps tabs on your relationship, and JJ in general, like a hawk.
You cringe as you pull into the long driveway and sure enough your father is already standing on the front steps, arms crossed over his chest, âWhere the hell have you been?â
âOh, Iâve just been hanging out with Kiara,â You reply nonchalantly.
âHanging out with Kiara? Donât lie to me, I know you were with that dirty delinquent boyfriend of yours.â
âDonât change the subject,â He warns angrily, âI heard he got arrested?! What the hell did he do this time?!â
âItâs none of your business Dad. Stay out of it.â
âI want you to stay away from that boy. Iâve said it a million times before and you donât listen but Iâm serious this time Y/N. End things with him.â
âOr what? What are you gonna do dad? Lock me in the house like a princess in a tower? You know what, Iâm done talking about this right now.â You angrily walk over to the driverâs side of your car before climbing in and slamming the door.
âWhere do you think youâre going? Y/N, I swear to god if you start that car youâre grounded.â You ignore him and start the car before speeding away from the house, drowning out your fatherâs angry screaming.
As you pull into The Wreckâs parking lot for the second time that day you run a hand through your hair and sigh, âFuck.â
âHey what are you doing back? I thought you had to get home to Dadzilla?â Kie asks as you walk into the restraunt.
âYeah well he decided he was going to yell at me as soon as I got there and I wasnât in the mood to deal with it.â You shrug and sit down at the bar. She nods in understanding but doesnât say anything else.
âYeah?â She asks, not looking up from her cleaning.
âCould I maybe stay with you for a few days? Just until all this shit with JJ is sorted out. If I go home my dad is gonna be all up my ass about it.â
âOf course Y/N, you know youâre always welcome at my house.â You smile, silently thanking her, and patiently wait until sheâs done cleaning before you both head back to her house.
{The Next Night}
âJust so you know, if you werenât going to be there I definitely wouldnât be going to this stupid party.â You tell Kiara as the two of you stare at yourselves in her mirror.
âOh I know. If it wasnât for my mom making me I wouldnât be going to this stupid party either,â She laughs as her mom pops her head into the room.
âYou girls almost ready?â
âYeah weâll be down in a minute,â Kiara replies and her Mom nods before leaving once more.
Kie sighs and turns to you, âYou ready for this?â
You shrug, âReady as Iâll ever be.â
When you get there the place is already crawling with kooks and the two of you are quick to split from her family and go find Pope. Although heâs not a kook so he isnât actually a part of the club his dad always caters and Pope usually tags along to help.
You keep a close eye on the crowd, ready to split if you see your father. Finally you spot Pope standing off to the side with his Dad and rush over to greet him.
After a while of watching and making fun of the kooks you turn towards Pope, âHey, have you heard from JJ?â
âNo, you guys?â He asks and you and Kie shake your heads.
âNo. Heâll be alright though, he has the survival instincts of a cockroach.â Kie answers.
He sighs, âItâs all my fault.â
âNo itâs not Pope, you didnât do anything wrong.â You assure him.
âTopper almost killed you, remember?â He doesnât respond as the Cameronsâ arrival steals everyoneâs attention.
As the night goes on and it begins to get dark the three of you continue to stand aside watching the kooks dance and laugh and live their lives. You continue to keep an eye out for your father, thankfully the closest thing you get to spotting him is catching a five second glimpse of your little brother dancing with some little girl from his second grade class.
At some point you excuse myself to go to the bathroom and push through the crowd into the club.
Unbeknownst to you JJ is outside searching for Sarah after a short run-in with Pope. Finding Sarah and giving her John Bâs note was at the top of his list but after that his main focus was going to be finding you. He finally spots Sarah when a hand roughly wraps around his arm and drags him away from the chaos.
âDude what the hell?!â He yells as heâs dragged away to a little nook in the porch, away from the crowd. The assailant releases the death grip they have on JJâs upper arm and practically throws the boy forward in front of them.
He stumbles a little before regaining his balance and turning to see Y/Nâs dad standing in front of him looking quite angry.
âOh hey Mr. Y/L/N. What, did you want to do a little future son-in-law and father-in-law bonding? You couldâve just asked, no need to be so rough.â He says sarcastically.
âCut the shit kid. Look, I donât like you, youâre dirty and rotten and youâre not good for my daughter. Now Iâve told her to end it but clearly she has other ideas so Iâm going to tell you instead. You need to end things between the two of you and move on, and after that stay a far distance away.â Your father spits in a warning tone.
âAnd what will you do if I donât?â JJ questions tauntingly, âI mean, my apologies sir, but thatâs not going to happen. I love your daughter and Iâll never leave her.â
âYou know, despite hanging around you and your delinquent friends, who probably have no hopes or goals for the future and will probably be stuck on The Cut barely scraping by to survive for the rest of your lives, she has aspirations. She wants to go somewhere in life, do things with her life. Things that you, a poor boy from the bad side of the island, whoâs always getting into trouble, arenât capable of doing. Now maybe being with you isnât affecting her right now but someday soon you will get into trouble that is so deep that you will drag my daughter down with you and everything she wants for her future, everything sheâs worked towards and done to achieve her goals, will be thrown out the window.â JJ stays silent, playing your fatherâs words over in his head as the older man continues, âDonât ruin her life. End it before she pays the price for your mistakes.â And with that he turns and walks away.
âYeah, um, no. I stayed at Kiaraâs, Iâm gonna be sleeping there for a few days.â You answer, tugging at your dress.
âHoney please. Come home with us later, your father and I were worried about you. He told me about your little argument and about you storming off. That wasnât very respectful Y/N, I thought we taught you better than that.â You laugh in disbelief, shaking your head at her words.
âDid he forget to tell you how he practically threatened me to break up with JJ? How he was the one who started the whole thing in the first place? Of course not and itâs not like you would care anyway because you donât like JJ either.â
âWhen did I ever say that? JJ is a nice kid he just...â She trails off and you scoff.
âY/N, please.â She pleads and you turn around and wave.
âBye Mom, Iâll see you in a few days when you two decide to stop judging somebody based on their social status and the amount of money they have in their bank account. Oh wait, thatâll never happen.â You reply angrily before opening the door and stepping out into the hallway.
You go outside, scanning to crowd to try and find Kiara, whom you finally spot standing a little ways further down the deck.
âHey, you alright?â She asks, seeing your annoyed face.
âYeah, just ran into my mom in the bathroom. Itâs fine, she was just being a bitch about the fight with my dad. Blaming it on me like always.â You shrug, turning towards the crowd until the door opens behind you and a familiar voice comes out of it.
You turn around, eyes widening as you watch JJ get pulled outside by the security guard, âLook man I can walk myself! I got legs. Can you see that, brother?â
He struggles against the guard, not even noticing Kie and yourself as he gets pulled past. He grabs a glass from an older man on the way, downing the alcohol inside of it. You cringe as heâs pulled through the crowd, causing a scene and turning all eyes towards him, including those of your father who still hasnât spotted you.
âLet go of him!â Kiara yells and her parents rush to shush her as all the attention is on the two of you now, âYou canât just boot him!â
You and JJ lock eyes for a moment and you smile but he doesnât return it and looks away instead. You frown, wondering how long heâs been out of jail and why he hadnât contacted any of you sooner, and why he reacted that way when he saw you.
âI invited him here! Iâm a member of this club!â Kie continues, shrugging off her parents who are desperately trying to get her to shut up.
JJ finally pushes off the guard and apologizes sarcastically before turning towards us, âHey, mandatory power hour at Rixonâs, Kie, Y/N. Pope, you as well. Rixonâs Cove, lets go.â
Kiara ignores her parents protests and the two of you bolt after JJ and John B as they run away from the party, Pope in tow. The five of you donât stop running until youâve reached your destination. You try to talk to JJ but he pretends not to hear you and instead works with John B to start a fire so you sit on a log next to Kie instead.
When the fire is started you smile and pat the seat next to you, hoping heâll sit there but he sits next to John B and you try to ignore the hurt you feel after. He hasnât said one word to me, did I do something wrong?
Youâre so caught up in your thoughts that you donât even pay attention to the conversation until Kie nudges you slightly and leans in to whisper, âYou okay?â
âHmm? Oh yeah.â You answer, looking towards John B whoâs standing in front of the group going on about the Royal Merchant and his findings about the gold.
At one point you and JJ lock eyes again but he looks away once again.
âAll we need it an original survey map of the property and weâve found the gold.â John B exclaims excitedly and you watch as JJ walks over and throws his arms around him.
You angrily stand up and stomp away from the fire, sick of JJâs attitude towards you tonight. You donât know what you did but youâre not going to sit around and let him act like youâre not even there.
âY/N? Where are you going?â Kie calls but you ignore her, continuing to walk until you get to the beach and find a nice large rock to sit on, staring up at the moonlight. A few moments later you hear footsteps and feel somebody sit next to you but you donât look over, you already know who it is.
âCan we talk?â He asks and you hum in response, not paying any attention until he asks again more insistently.
âOh so youâve finally decided to acknowledge my presence after ignoring me all night?â You donât know what you expected him to say but what comes out of his mouth next is far from it.
âI donât think we should be together anymore,â He replies softly. Your heartbeat quickens as you stare back at him with wide eyes.
âJJ, why would you say that?â
âIâm not good for you Y/N. Youâre beautiful and rich and you have your whole life ahead of you. Iâm just some poor troublemaker who isnât going to make it anywhere in life. Youâre so much better than me. You deserve better than me. I canât believe it took me this long to see that.â
âThatâs not true JJ. It doesnât matter where you come from, you CAN make it places in life if you believe you can. I donât want anybody else, I donât care who they are or what they think they can give me. I only want you.â
âYouâre a kook and Iâm a pogue. We arenât meant to be together. We were bound to crash and burn at some point so we may as well get it over with. Itâs best that we move on and date people from our own sides of the island.â He refuses to look at you now, staring out into the ocean as you shake your head profusely.
âIt doesnât work that way JJ and you know it. We canât just move on and love somebody else just because you and I come from different worlds. Romeo and Juliet, remember?â You cry, referring to the nicknames Kie and the boys used to call you two when you first started dating. Tears began to stream steadily down your cheeks.
âRomeo and Juliet both died Y/N!â He yells, raising his voice for the first time, âThey were stupid enough to love each other even though they knew they shouldnât and they ended up dead and if we stay together the same thing will happen to us, except itâll be the death of everything you could accomplish in your life and Iâll be the one pulling the trigger. Eventually Iâll end up pulling you down to my level and all of your hopes and dreams will die and youâll be no better than me, a stupid, useless pogue with no purpose.â
âDonât say that about yourself. Youâre so much more than that to me. Youâre my best friend JJ, the love of my life. I donât want to live a life without you.â
The boy doesnât say anything for a moment as your fatherâs words from this evening play over in his head. Donât ruin her life. Sheâd be better off without you. End it before she pays the price for your mistakes. Finally he sighs, âWell you donât really have a choice.â
âWhat do you mean? JJ please, I donât want to loose you.â You pleaded softly as tears rolled down your cheeks.
Seeing you in this much pain physically broke JJ as he felt his heart break. He always vowed never to hurt you but now here he was doing the very thing he promised not to do. But he couldnât ruin you, pushing you away now would save you from more pain later.
He could tell that you werenât giving up without a push and with that thought in mind he opened his mouth and let the biggest lie heâs ever told fall from his lips, âYou already have.â
âJJ,â You whispered helplessly as you watched the boy you love so much stand up and turn towards you.
âItâs true. Iâve been falling out of love for weeks but you were too stupidly in love with me to notice.â
âYou donât mean that.â You shook your head as more tears fell, âYouâre just saying that to push me away.â
âNo, Iâm not. Youâre so clingy, always up my ass, itâs exhausting. Iâve been mustering up the courage to end things but I couldnât bring myself to do it, you know? I didnât want to tell you because I knew it would complicate things and make things awkward between everyone. I didnât want it to get bad and make the others have to choose between us. I mean of course theyâd choose me because Iâm a pogue just like them but I didnât want it to come to that point because I knew youâd have no friends then. You know I feel kind of bad for you actually. Youâre so rich and privileged but yet none of the other rich kids like you so you resorted to being friends with pogues because youâre so pathetic that you canât handle being alone.â With every word that came out of his mouth his heart broke more and more. Seeing the hurt on your face made him want to die. He opened his mouth to keep going but you stood up and held out your hand for him to stop.
âThereâs no need to say anything else JJ, you made your point loud and clear.â Your voice was so quiet and broken that he could barely hear what you said, âIâm gonna go. Tell the others Iâm sorry.â
As you turn and walk away JJ has to physically fight to urge to run to you and scoop you up into his arms and tell you that everything heâd just said was a lie. He wanted to apologize for all the vile things heâd just said and tell you how much he loves you but he didnât.
As soon as you disappeared into the woods tears started to freely down his cheeks at a rate that they never had before as he angrily tugged at his hair, âFuck!â
Thirty minutes later you stared up at the large house in front of you, debating about whether to go in. Tears stained your cheeks and you had to refrain from letting more loose as you replayed JJâs harsh words in your head. You sighed and opened the large door, closing it behind you.
âY/N? Is that you?â Your motherâs voice rang out as she appeared from the study.
âWhere have you been?â Your father asked from behind her, âOff with your boyfriend again huh?â
âDad I really donât want to talk about it,â I reply softly, emotionally drained already, âIâm going up to bed. And heâs not my boyfriend anymore.â
Neither one of your parents responded as they watched you climb the elegant staircase towards your room.

[Drama Track] Dangerous Brothers
The drama track begins with EROSION showing up to the studio one by one. Neight is first to arrive and comments that Toxin is usually there before anyone else. Byakuya loudly enters next and starts pien-ing as he does and Neight asks him what that means. Yoru enters next in a seemingly bad mood, Byakuya comments how both Neight and Yoru are upset. Neight and Yoru argue over how loud Yoru's being when Creha shows up and asks Yoru to get out of the way.
Creha's tired and Neight asks him if he was up late playing games again and tells him he shouldn't be gaming that much. Creha says it's impossible for him and goes on a bit of a tangent about a game he's playing. Creha's tangent is quickly ended after Byakuya touches him, which startles him. At this point Byakuya only wants to mess with him further.
Toxin finally arrives, out of breath, and Yoru questions if he just got lost again. Toxin admits the weather was nice and he took a way he wasn't familiar with when he went on a jog, even though he shouldn't given his poor sense of direction.
Byakuya announces that all of EROSION has arrived and they can finally get to recording. Neight says once they finish up recording they should get something good to eat after. Toxin's agrees but Yoru starts complaining about how they've been stuck doing retakes for three months already because of someone. Toxin says he just wants to show everyone that their rock is the best and Neight tells Yoru to give it a rest because Toxin's too stubborn to be stopped. Byakuya provokes Yoru and they fight, Neight tells Yoru to stop and for Byakuya to stop provoking him or he'll die. Byakuya says he'll stop because he still wants to sing and goes off saying things no one else understands.
Anyways Toxin says it about time they actually start recording.
--
They're in the middle of recording From a Spicy Peak when Toxin tells them to stop. Toxin questions if everyone's really taking things seriously but immediately apologizes and says it's on his end and they should try again.
The boys start reminiscing about the past and how they used to copy rock bands in the forest.
Creha: That's nostalgic, we used to copy all kinds of rock bands there. Neight: And we weren't playing for anyone at all. A stage just for us. Byakuya: Right, right! And the only things that would listen to us were the birds and animals. Wait, is that right? There really wasn't anyone listening to us perform? Hey, there wasn't anyone, right?! Hey, c'mon! Someone tell me! Yoru: There wasn't. Back then we were ditching school, everyone else probably had their noses stuck in books. There's no way anyone else was there. Toxin: Now that you mention it EROSION got its name in that forest. A name that fit our rock perfectly. But, who was the first one that thought it? Yoru: Does it really matter, we all thought of the name didn't we. And it was just us then anyways? Neight: Well, people from school might have snuck around to listen. Creha: You sure? We were pretty well hidden, it would've been hard to find us. Byakuya: Is that right... Pien Creha: Byakuya, you okay? Byakuya: I'm alrighty! There's no problems so lets get onto that next take!
--
Back to recording, Toxin once again stops in the middle. Toxin freaks out because his voice isn't coming out right. Neight and Creha talk about how all five of them are crazy and Byakuya asks whether it's them that's crazy or the world around them.
Another take. Toxin, once again cuts it short, but this time he has a full blown freak out and starts breaking things. The other four are just off to the side commenting about what Toxin's breaking. Eventually Toxin comes back completely calm saying they should try again. Yoru gets mad because they have to constantly apologize and pay back the studio for everything Toxin destroys. Since Toxin and Yoru are fighting Creha starts playing a game, Byakuya decides to join him. Creha invites Toxin to join, he refuses, and Neight says it's about time for a break.
Toxin and Yoru start fighting again and Neight says this is why they've been stuck recording for three months. Neight's fed up and says he's going to sleep until they're done fighting.
Yoru tells Byakuya and Creha to tell Toxin that it's his fault they're still stuck recording and Byakuya agrees. Creha's too into his game to notice what's happening. Toxin tries to snap Creha out of his focus but only manages to wake up Neight. (wuh woh!)
Ura-Neight comments how they keep fighting over things that don't matter and how they shouldn't drag him into things. Creha's still focused on his game, Ura-Neight says everyone is stupid and starts playing the drums to snap Creha out of it. Yoru joins in on guitar and Creha finally looks up from his game. Creha says he only meant to go until the end of the raid in his game but got really into it. Byakuya says he and Creha are similar but Toxin and Yoru disagree. Ura-Neight basically asks how many times the rest of them will expect him to forgive them for testing his patience and says he'll destroy them if they keep up the useless talk. Then the door opens,
Creha: Ah, a new mic appeared. Byakuya: It's time to say bye-bye to the mic Toxin broke! Pieen~ Creha: You really... Say pien to anything. Byakuya: You should say it too Creha! Creha: Aha, no way.
Toxin's just frustrated because he wants to create the best music. The rest try and reassure Toxin that it's ok and that they believe in him.Â
Another take. But, it's Yoru this time. Toxin says they were doing good that time but Yoru disagrees and says it isn't rock. Byakuya gets upset at Yoru because Yoru's a liar that said they weren't doing anymore retakes. Then in the time it took for a short conversation between Toxin, Creha, Ura-Neight, and Yoru and Yoru telling them to do one more take, Byakuya started drawing.
Creha says he can he can do another retake but for Byakuya it'd be impossible. Toxin seeing that Byakuya's in his own world agrees with this. Ura-Neight gets fed up and goes to bed. Yoru tries to snap Byakuya out of it and grabs him; Toxin and Creha immediately decide this recording is doomed. Byakuya freaks out because Yoru touched him and now he's dirty and goes crazy with disinfectant/Febr*ze (spraying Yoru in the face).Â
Creha: I tried to stop you, I said you shouldn't touch Byakuya when he's like this. Aa~ah *I dunno~
And Byakuya continues spraying Yoru
--
Yoru's wiping the disinfectant off himself and Neight wakes up. Neight notices his glasses are wet and asks why.
Byakuya: I was doing a spray spray spray! Neight: This is the worst, you got my glasses wet. Byakuya: Nyahaha~ It's starting to getting silly~ *I dunno~
Toxin asks what Byakuya drew and he reveals it's! Ero Ero Ero Ero EROSION! A smiley face with horns and five X's (NikoDevil)- Byakuya made a logo for EROSION!
Creha: Byakuya it must be nice having talents. The only thing I can do is sing. Byakuya: But singing is a talent too! And I really love your singing you know~ It's that feeling of going completely wild and ending the world! It's the ultimate rock! It's so dangerous! Crazy emotional~! Creha: Thank you Byakuya: Aha~ Let me hear your singing as thanks. I want to be showered with much much much more rock! Creha: I- do too
Toxin says they should do another recording, Neight asks if Toxin knows what time it is and Toxin says it doesn't matter, he wants to sing. Toxin asks Neight if he doesn't want to sing, Neight says that's not what he meant- Yoru says it'd be impossible for them not to want to sing, Byakuya mentions they were born to sing and live to sing, and Creha says he'd keep singing even if his throat went dry, he was coughing up blood, and had completely lost his mind.
Toxin has to stop recording again and is still frustrated over himself. Neight tells him there's no reason when it comes to rock and he should calm down.Â
Creha is just belting in the background. He must've gotten into it and didn't notice they stopped.
Creha's singing made Toxin realize what he was missing and they do one more take.
Toxin is finally satisfied and says that they have something that might be able to change the world.
Toxin gets poetic and says music kept him going and that it's like a light in the darkness. Neight agrees but Yoru thinks they're going a little overboard, but does think there's some negative feeling he gets when he thinks about the past. Byakuya thinks it might be because he was dumb and hated studying, Yoru curses him out. Neight tells them to grab their stuff and they start talking about how they're going to Japan soon. Byakuya seems really excited to try tapioca milk tea and Neight shuts him down telling him they aren't there to sightsee, they're going there to do work as EROSION. Toxin adds they also have to find "that" under Carnelian's orders. Yoru doesn't care, Byakuya seems afraid, and Creha excuses himself to the bathroom. Neight mentions that Creha always gets like that when 'that person' is mentioned.
Toxin says it's about time they start heading home.Â
Byakuya: HEYHEYHEYHEY! I'm hungie, pien~ Neight: I'm craving meat right now. Once we get back to the hotel let's find a restaurant to eat at. Byakuya: No-no! No way! Outside food is dirty! Heyy Yoru make something~ Yoru: Hah? Who's cooking for you, stupid. Creha: I really want to eat- Yoru's cooking~
Everyone basically pushes cooking dinner onto Yoru and the track ends.
*Creha ïŒäżșăăŒăăȘăïœïżœïżœ and Byakuya ïŒăŒăăăŒăăȘăïœïŒ say this the exact same way and I just think it's really cute and wanted to note that

We have known about the vampires in this town for a long time now.
Our whole way of living is sort of built around it, actually. The whole water supply is holy water â the water in our taps, in our pools, in our fire hydrants. I've always thought if I had to kill a vampire I'd want to do it with a fire hydrant. You have to think about these things, you know. They teach you in school: wear a cross, carry a stake, hang garlic over your door. Never invite someone into your home unless you are certain you can trust them. And for God's sake, don't go walking alone after dark without some kind of weapon handy.
Things happen, of course. Things are always happening. People will just quietly disappear â most of the time the bodies are never recovered â and although it can't technically be said for certain just what happened, everyone knows. And then they talk. In hushed voices, in places where the family of the deceased â sorry, the "missing, presumed dead" â can't hear them, they talk. She must have done something wrong, they whisper. If she had just worn a cross like she was supposed to, if she had just stayed inside after dark, this would never have happened. Stupid girl â this was always bound to happen to her.
We all grew up watching those same vampire movies as everyone else. Dracula, Nosferatu, even Twilight. Let me tell you something: vampires don't sparkle. There is no sure way to identify a vampire until it's too late. Until there's no time to reach for that stake that you always keep in your purse, that if you could just get to it, maybe you could save yourself, fuck, where is it, where is your purse â there's no time for that. You're already dead.
Although I grew up knowing about the vampires, constantly hearing warnings and rules and stories, I didn't see one (not knowingly, at least) until I was twenty. At this point, although I knew theoretically that I could be attacked on any given day and it was important to be prepared, subconsciously I had begun to believe that it was never going to happen to me. I'd never so much as glimpsed a vampire in two decades, and everyone just droned about them constantly. Surely, if it were going to happen, it would have happened by now.
So, as I cooked a romantic dinner for myself and my boyfriend of three months, the threat of vampires seemed as distant as the possibility of an anvil falling out of the sky and crushing me to death. I was gearing myself up to tell him I loved him for the first time; I was not a romantic person by nature, but things had been going really well so far, so I wanted to make an effort. That effort also included making coq au vin and, in the interest of staying as kissable as possible, omitting the two cloves of garlic which the recipe called for.
That particular evening was one of the darkest and rainiest I had seen in some time, so when my boyfriend showed up twenty minutes late and apologizing profusely, I just told him not to worry, and ushered him in out of the rain.
"Why don't you take a shower while I get dinner on the table?" I suggested. "I can give you a pair of sweatpants and a t shirt." I wasn't really sure my clothes would fit him, but he was soaking and shivering, and he took me up on my offer right away. At worst, I got to see him in a too-tight shirt, right?
I gave him the biggest t shirt and sweatpants I owned, and I set about pouring wine and dishing up soup. In the interest of both warmth and atmosphere, I dug out just about every candle I owned â which, to be fair, was only a handful â and set them on the coffee table, where we could admire them without the smell mingling with the scent of the food. By the time everything was ready, he was back, wearing my sweats and shirt. They fit him better than I would have guessed, but he was still clearly uncomfortable, frowning and tugging at the shirt hem to stop it from riding up. It wasn't exactly the start I had pictured to our perfect romantic night, but hey, if something had to go wrong, this didn't seem so bad, right?
"You look cute." I said, grabbing his hand away from his hem and squeezing it in both of mine. "Come on, Griff, let's just have some dinner."
Griff gave me what might have been a forced smile, and sat down. "Thanks for making this."
"Happy to." I smiled back and took my seat across from him. I decided to wait until his mood improved a little before I sprang the whole "I love you" thing on him. I didn't want to freak him out.
We ate mostly in silence, and I regretted not thinking of a romantic soundtrack to put on. By the time we finished, I was desperate for some kind of noise â or just something to take the sullen expression off of Griff's face â so I suggested we watch a movie. We settled on The Hangover; again, not exactly how I had hoped the evening would go, but whatever made Griff happy.
It didn't take long for his attention to wander away from watching the movie and towards kissing me, which was all fine as far as I was concerned. Good thing I'd left out that garlic, right? I closed my eyes and leaned into the kiss, trying to parse whether this was the right moment to tell him. Before I could decide, however, he suddenly sprang away from me with a gasp.
When I opened my eyes, it was obvious what had happened, but my brain refused to register it. That burn mark in the shape of a cross had been there before I leaned towards him, hadn't it? It wasn't from my cross, the one I always wore around my neck, was it? It wasn't from any cross, of course not, my eyes were playing tricks on me.
I wish I hadn't wasted precious seconds processing all of this. Maybe I could have done something, said something, at least moved, before he was tearing the cross off of my neck with another pained yelp and leaning back over me. The jig was up now, and it was clear that unlike me, he wasn't wasting any time.
I wish also that I could say I survived through some great, heroic moment, but that's not what happened. I just sat there, shellshocked, until his mouth reached my neck and he began to bite â and then my body seemed to act of its own volition, thrusting him away from me with both hands. This caught him off guard, and he fell backwards, landing directly on top of every candle I owned. His shirt â my shirt â caught fire, and he dashed out the door into the rain.
At the very least, I can say that I made the conscious decision to lock the door, and then barricade it with a table. That's about all I managed to do before collapsing on the couch, back into the same spot I had been just minutes beforehand, and burst into tears. I didn't even bother trying to stop the blood leeching from my neck; I just cried until at some point I eventually fell asleep.
They taught us so much about preventing vampire attacks that it never even occurred to me before that moment that I had never been taught what to do if one did take place. Maybe it was assumed that if you got attacked by a vampire, you weren't surviving. Still, that seemed to nullify the point of carrying stakes and wearing crosses and blessing the water and whatnot. Maybe it was because everyone in this town seemed to believe that if you got attacked by a vampire, it was your fault â if you were smart, you wouldn't be out after dark in the first place, now would you?
Except I wasn't out after dark. I was wearing a cross. I survived. And now I had to continue surviving with no idea how to proceed. I couldn't ask anyone, either â even if they didn't lecture me to my face, surely they would whisper about me behind my back. Stupid girl, didn't even realize her own boyfriend was a vampire. What was she doing, inviting him into the house, when he clearly wasn't trustworthy? She should have known better.
For days, I stayed in my apartment, afraid to go out. I showered, with holy water, of course â except, weeks later, it dawned on me that Griff should have been hurt by the holy water. So, what was the truth? Was holy water not really an effective weapon against vampires, as we had always been taught, or was the water we had always been told was holy not really holy at all?
I did the best to cover the wound on my neck with makeup and collared shirts. There was no one there to see it, but I couldn't bear to look at it, and when it wasn't covered, I couldn't stop. I'd just stand in front of the mirror and stare at my neck, thinking of everything I should have done differently. Still, I was alive, wasn't I?
Wasn't I?
The first time I went out, it was to gather supplies: more stakes, more crosses, more garlic. Matches, bottles, spirits, and rags. Knives, too, although I didn't know if they would help or not. I wasn't really sure what I knew anymore.
The second time I went out, it was to hunt. No more being shocked, no more being attacked in my own home. I was taking the fight to them. After all, what was the point in trying to stay somewhere safe if nowhere was safe? What was the point in following the rules if they weren't going to protect me?
The vampires in this town have known about us for a long time now. What started as a solo effort has now grown into a small movement, which I'm proud to say consists of several people whom I saved from vampires. People who, like me, had no instructions on how to proceed â except for the ones that I gave them.
Of course, they've had time to prepare now. They protect their hearts more carefully, they don't reveal that they're vampires until they're alone with a victim, they even carry what I assume is non-holy water to put out any fires we might start. Often, our efforts feel futile; sometimes I'll go hunting several times and not come across anyone I can say for certain is a vampire. It's hard to know for sure if I'm making the right call. Sometimes it feels as if I am making no difference at all, as if I am still sitting on the couch doing nothing.
Still, things happen.

Had ideas floating around involving delving more into his backstory with the uncles as well as past interactions with Dusty, but then I ended up having this more Lisa-related concept pop up that emotionally hit me over the head, stomped me into the curb and took my wallet, so...this is the result.
A few notes, as Buddy obvs isnât raised by Brad in this AU I decided she would go by a different name here(Sunny). Apologies if itâs as weird to read as it was to write, haha. Sheâs about 7 here, this is some time before the events of Painful.
Content warnings(getting dark here so please do take care): Descriptions of abuse, suicide, addiction and relapse
âYou know the drill, right?âÂ
âWait and be quiet until you wave.â Sunnyâs small hand pokes out from underneath her ill-fitting poncho to demonstrate, her motions quick and jittery. The pale mask obscuring her face does nothing to hide the way her shoulders bounce in excitement as the two sit against the wall of the hut, the way her feet drum against the rust-colored earth below.Â
âMhm.â Bernard grunts in affirmation. âAnd until then stay out of sight while Iâm out there, if I can see youââ
âThe bad guys can too, I know.â Thereâs a bite of impatience to Sunnyâs voice followed by a dramatic huff, the girl crossing her arms decisively. Nearly a mirror image of Jaxon, much to Bernardâs irritation. Out of all the âunclesâ for her to take after...
In response Bernard merely settles on a sigh and a warning look before finally standing. Today wasnât a day for trying to play the parent and lecture on respectâhis already protesting muscles and the persistent pulse of pain beneath his skull saw to that. Damn Joy. Or lack of it, for that matter.Â
Stepping over threadbare blankets and supply bags strewn about the meager space, Bernard feels Sunnyâs eyes on him all the while as he exits the makeshift hut. What greets him outside is nothing newâthe same drab hills and looming cliffs from yesterday. He canât understand what makes the child so excited to go out and see it all again, especially since thereâs been a few other times heâs relented to her pleas. Surely she has to see eventually that thereâs nothing out there of any worth.Â
Bernardâs gaze drags across the horizon, searching and scanning and then double checking for any signs of movement as he treads further from the hut. They live a ways away from the closest settlement but he can never rest easy knowing of all the freaks and scavengers about. At the moment however, there is nothing but rocks and trees in deathlike stillness. The dawn is only beginning to break yet the heavy weight of humid air is already present, accompanied by a grey cover of clouds likely to be later burned away by the sun. The uncomfortable stickiness makes Bernardâs expression sour further as he turns to check back.
Immediately a small spot of white catches his eyeâSunnyâs mask, peeking out of a large hole in the clay walls of the hut that can be only charitably called a window. Bernard stares a moment, does one more double take around him, then lifts his hand in a small wave. In a flash sheâs already left the hut, dashing forward with faded pink poncho billowing behind her.Â
âHey. Hey,â He barely manages to catch the girlâs wrist, stopping her from speeding right past him. Antonio once joked that Sunny knew how to run before she could walk and honestly, Bernard could believe it. âStay close, remember?â
Sunny stares at the point of contact for a moment as if contemplating resistance, but seems to decide against it as her small hand slides into his. Sheâs quiet for a while but her gaze is constantly movingâto the sky, the ground, the hills, until finally it locks onto something and Sunny jolts.
âWhatâs that?â She gasps, already starting to tug Bernard forward as she tries to move closer. At first heâs puzzled, seeing the object of her interest is nothing more than a dead tree, but then a spot of darkness perched on the gnarled branches catches his eye.
âA crow. Type of bird.â Bernard allows her to lead him forward until they arrive at the base of the tree. The crow just watches, a slight sheen of blue glimmering over its feathers in the faint morning light.Â
âLike an owl?âÂ
âYep. Like an owl, but more annoying-â The sentence is soon followed by a harsh cry on part of the bird, making Sunny jump. Bernard just snickers. âLike so.â
âNo he isnât!!â Sunny sounds personally offended by this, as if she wasnât just startled by it a moment ago. âHeâs just saying good morning.â
âSureâŠso what else does he have to say? Since youâre such an expert.â As if on cue the crow caws again.
âHm.â She hums contemplatively, crossing her arms. âHe says youâre stinky. And dumb.â
Bernard sharply glances sideways at her, lifting a brow. âIs that so? Well thatâs rude.â Sunny just shrugs, failing miserably at stifling a giggle. âI could throw a rock at him for that, you know.â He adds, and immediately the childâs mirth disintegrates.Â
âNo! You canât!â She gasps, looking anxiously between him and the bird. Bernardâs smirk widens slightly as he decides to keep this going. Maybe itâs because kids are always easy to mess with. Maybe the withdrawalâs put him in a bit of a nasty mood.Â
âI dunno...thereâs a lot of âem around, you know.â Bernard saunters about scanning the ground intently, kneeling to pick up a random piece of stone and inspecting it to fully sell the charade.
He expects another protest on part of Sunny but all that follows is silence. Bernardâs smile fades as he looks up, presented with the sight of the girl pulling herself up onto one of the tree branches.
âSunshine, no-â He quickly discards the stone and returns to the base of the tree, unsure if he should prepare to catch her if she falls or just try and pull her back down. âGet back here, now.âÂ
âIf youâre gonna be mean to him, I wonât let you.â She calls back, casting only a brief glance in his direction before continuing to climb up towards the crow. The branches seem to be able to hold her small body just fine but Bernardâs form is strung with tension as he watches Sunny move further out of reach.
âKid, I was joking.â Whether it was from the abrupt motion or the overall noise, it feels like someoneâs taking a jackhammer to his skull.Â
âWasn't funny,â She huffs, pausing for a moment in her ascent as she and the bird regard each other. âHiâŠâ Bernard can hear her whisper, and Sunny slowly reaches forward. âHi birdie. Câ mere, itâs okay. Itâs okay,â Itâs a similar tone to one he and the others would use whenever Sunny got a scrape or bruise, however this time it doesnât have any calming effect. As she gets closer the bird caws and with a rustle of feathers, it leaps off the branch and takes to the air. âAwâŠâ
âThere,â Bernard winces, rubbing his temple with one hand as he watches the dark shape quickly become a small splotch in the sky. âSee? There wasnât any point to that, they donât like people.â If Sunnyâs paying attention to him he canât tell with the mask, but even so it seems her focus is on the horizon as she surveys her surroundings.
â...Iâm really high up.â
âOh no, really?â He drawls, rolling his eyes. âGreat observation, kiddo.â Itâs a surprise to see the child not responding with her usual indignation, but Sunnyâs mind seems elsewhere entirely.Â
âI can see more things,â She points further off in the distance. âAre those other huts over there? Are they like us?â Not waiting for an answer, Sunny lifts her mask and beams down at Bernard. âCome up! You can come see too!â The shrill excitement in her voice only makes his head throb further and he canât even bring himself to remind her of the mask.
âJustâ-give me a...ugh.â Bernard finds himself leaning against the tree for support, even that small motion making his muscles twinge in protest. Heâd thought he would be able to fight it off but the withdrawal was only getting worse. A headache he could handle, but when the pain spread...
Just try and breathe. In and out. He shuts his eyes and tries to remind himself he has to be here for Sunny right now, thatâs why heâs going through this in the first place. Is she talking to him right now? The most he can hear is the blood roaring in his ears, a harsh ringingâ
Then quiet. The pain halts, though thereâs still a faint echo of the sensation through his body. Bernard lifts his head to find heâs somewhere else.
-
Nighttime. Standing in overgrown grass surrounding a run-down house seemingly banished to the far out edge of the suburbs. Her house.Â
âLisa?â The boy didnât dare bring his voice above a hushed whisper, as always fearful breaking the silence would catch unwanted attention. The cold light of a television below her room was a nigh-constant reminder of the risk. Bernard tried not to let it distract him, eyes glued to the higher window where Lisa would appear many times before. He prayed for the creak of a window as it opened, the rustle of leaves as she would clamber down the nearby oak tree to get to him. But right now, it all was quiet.Â
Something was wrong. It had been wrong the day before, when Lisa stared at him through the fresh bandages on her face, hands loosely clasped around wrists with bruises that were even more recent. The plan didnât work. At first Bernard thought sheâd be furious with himâreally he wouldâve preferred that. Instead as he profusely apologized Lisa just watched him with hollow eyes. That look of tired resignation terrified him even more than her anger.
Bernard shifted uneasily from foot to foot. It was a school night for him and not their usual time to meet, but he had to check on her. Even if he didnât Bernard was sure heâd be kept up by the worry anyway. He wasnât sure how long heâd been waiting but enough was enough.
Motions slowed by apprehension, he stood at the base of the oak and grasped the sturdiest branch he could reach. The rough bark bit Bernardâs hands as he clumsily hoisted his stout figure up, sneakers scraping against the trunk of the tree in an attempt to get more leverage. Once he regained his bearings he reached for another branch, then another. By the end of his climb he was out of breath but his lips twisted in grim triumph. Lisaâs window was right within reach.Â
Past the glass-smudged glass Bernard finally saw her. She stood on the other side of the room, a shape distinguished only by the faint light filtering in from the outside. Besides that he couldnât make much else outâhad she noticed him yet? Was she ignoring him?Â
As he shifted closer, timidly reaching to tap on the window, it was then he noticed two important things.
Lisaâs feet didnât touch the floor. A rope was tied to the ceiling.
No. That couldnât be it. Something in Bernardâs gut twisted as he leaned in, trying to make sense of what he was seeing. That couldnât be it. The shadows were playing tricks on himâheâd seen people die like that before on television, people who did horrible things and terrified people too weak to go on, but Lisa couldnât. His Lisa was the strongest person he knew, even if she didnât think it. With a trembling hand he knocked on the windowâonce, twice. But she didnât look at him. Just gently swayed there, her slight form limp and, andâŠ
Lifeless.
âLisa.â His voice broke. âLisa.â Fist now clenched, Bernard hit it against the window with a dull thud. He didnât care about the noise anymore, he just wanted to make her move. To make her look at him again with those soft dark eyes. But Lisa was still.Â
Didnât she tell him before? How there was another option, one thatâd take her away from all of this. Bernard had felt tears well up in his eyes as he took her hands in his own, telling Lisa it would never come to that, they would find a better way. Lisa just sighed, calling him a crybaby, but she had gently squeezed his hands nonetheless. He had clung to that moment through everything.Â
Now...it felt like the world was spinning around him, about to fall apart. As Bernard hunched over, unable to look anymore, his body wracked with sobs so powerful he couldnât even make a sound beside ragged breaths. It wouldâve been so easy to let go of that tree branch, let himself fallâ
-
ââ-dy! Dad!â A voice pierces Bernardâs ears, a sudden brightness combined with the returning headache making him squint. All at once his real surroundings come back.
âFuck.â Is all he manages to gasp out at first, blindly grasping for a steady hold onto something, anything, before his balance falters. His hands find a branch, bark pale and dead beneath his palms, his eyes lowering to see the dusty ground further below his feet.
â...Dad? What happened?â Sunny sits across from him on another branch. The fear in her small voice, the trust given by that title, it all makes something ache in Bernardâs chest besides the withdrawal. He canât stand it.Â
âI told you not to call me that,â Bernard mutters , not making eye contact as he unsteadily clambers down from the branches. âWeâre going home.â He canât stand being in that tree another second, not after seeing that.Â
âButâbut why canât I stay longer?â Sunny sniffs, only reluctantly starting to follow and Bernard tries not to notice how she sounds on the verge of tears.Â
âBecause I said so, now move.â Before the girl can even properly respond the last shreds of his patience dissipate and Bernard reaches up, pulling her out of the tree with not as much care as he probably shouldâve taken. As they march across the dirt and grit Sunny makes a frustrated sound, attempting to wiggle her hand out of his grip. Soon the futility of that becomes apparent and she eventually falls in line, albeit still sniffling and dragging her feet. Itâs only when the hut is a few paces away that she speaks again, voice fragile.Â
â...whoâs Lisa?â
Bernard falters in his tracks, that name bringing back a rush of memories heâs been trying to keep at bay every step from that tree. His pace slows as his brain makes a weak attempt at forming an explanation, but fortunately before he can speak thereâs movement in the doorway of the hut.Â
Antonio squints at them through the morning sun, no doubt adjusting from the dim candlelight of the dug out level underground where the others sleep. Bernard just watches sullenly as the man lifts a hand in greeting, already anticipating how heâll soon detect the change in mood. All it takes is a few glances between the two and Antonioâs expression darkens with a frown. He doesnât bother with further pleasantries. âWhat happened?â Itâs like an accusation, but Bernard doesnât even have the energy to get defensive.
âJust...take her.â Bernard canât meet the otherâs scrutinizing gaze as he nudges Sunny forward in Antonioâs direction. He only catches a glimpse of the girl rushing to her uncleâs side before he turns away.
âBernard-âÂ
âRelax, sheâs just sulking cause she wanted to stay out some more,â He tries to sound as relaxed as he can to avoid suspicion, waving a hand dismissively as he begins to head around the back of the hut. Itâs easier when Antonio canât see his face. âIâll be back.âÂ
If Antonio replies, Bernard is already too far away to hear. Some of his tension eases with the knowledge that the others will be too preoccupied by Sunny to try and follow him. No judgement, no pity. None of them can understand this. None of them can understand why a small, pale figure with raven-dark hair stares at him as he clambers down a craggy cliff edge. Bernard shuts his eyes, the bite of the rope keeping him grounded as he falls into the rhythm of his descent.
When at last his feet touch ground again the realization of what heâs doing kicks in, and with it rises a sharp hunger in his core. Itâs been so long since Bernard had dared go near this spot with the knowledge of what heâd left there long ago. But he needs it now, needs to forget for at least a little while. Bernard turns, eyes opening eagerly to see that familiar blue dotting the earth.Â
The pills are there waiting for him, right where he left them.

Control Freak - Grayson Dolan
summary: after Choff production lines CEO (finally) retires, a new boss makes his way into Y/Nâs world..
warnings: sexual references/undertones
a/n: another Grayson series, i canât help myself :)) enjoy!! also, ily <3
Ugh, he was in one of his moods again.
The office cubicles were hastily bustling with nervousness and terror. At any given moment, the infuriated man, so-called boss, will be bursting through the double doors with a dark red tint across his cheeks and maybe even smoke out of his ears, if you're lucky.
Mr. Kidman has never been good with the whole "patience is a virtue" thing, he's a ticking time bomb at all hours of the day. Nothing ever satisfies him, nor remotely excites him, he just finds something to yell and scream about at some poor unfortunate soul and then continues his merry day. But today, he was furious. He had no empathy for anyone, even his favorite two little secretaries that wear push-up bras like a side-job. Apparently someone had brought him the wrong breakfast order and everything just went downhill from there.
Unlike all the others, you seemed calm and composed amongst all this mayhem, but only because you, and maybe two others, knew that 'Old Angry Kidman' was finally retiring. Yep, freedom at last. Well, unless the new guy, or girl, has terrible anger issues.
So you just sat at your clean and pristine desk, typing another draft and adding it to the plentiful piles saved on your work computer, while soundlessly chewing on a mint piece of gum that substituted for the absence of a tooth brushing the morning of. But your quick finger movements were hushed once Mr. Kidman, as predicted, flew straight through the doors with his signature fiery red face and sweat droplets dotting his thinning hairline. "Every body fucking up! I've fucking had it with all of you." He demands, majority of the room raising from their seats with caution. With his teeth tightly gritted and his lips in a fine line, he swirls his index finger in the air, motioning to all of his terrified workers.
"If it were my fuckin' decision, I'd have each and everyone of you pieces of shits fired and on the streets in point ZERO-TWO seconds. You all are fucking lucky that this is my last day here, son's of bitches." A man of few nice words, that he is. The nicest thing you've ever heard him say was thank you, and that was two years ago. His vulgar and aggressive attitude truly brings the worth of working this job down. If it weren't for the good pay and lack of any other remotely feasible company jobs, you would've quit a long time ago.
But alas, you still endure the inevitable fiery reign of his obstructive wrath on the daily.
-
Dolan is his name.
The new boss, that is. That's the only information you and the rest of the staff knew, besides that he's a male. He hasn't shown up for work yet, or even formally introduced himself. Hell, you don't even know what he looks like. But you were certainly nervous for his arrival.
What if he's just like Kidman, or worse?
It most certainly made you nervous to think that this new guy could ever be worse than Kidman. You were hoping and praying that the he'd at least value his workers and employees.
Everyone, on your office floor, was anticipating the days and hours of his big arrival. No one was certain of when he was going to show up, or if. But nonetheless you were one of the most nervous ones. You held the highest title among your coworkers, except CEO of course, but you were pretty up there when it came to business standards. Everyone seemed to like you as well, your kind nature and natural non-brutal attitude sure did make up for other people's. Of course, you didn't really have an office of your own, because you enjoyed the time spent with the people around you. You truly loved the relationship and humbleness you gained from it. At least you weren't a snotty bitch, right?
There were plenty of little rumors around the workspace that you'd become the new (and improved) owner of this whole entire manufacturing company. Specifically a well known fashion line, Choff. The floor that you, and many of the other leading workers, were on was basically the information database. But from time to time, you'd find yourself strolling through the other, more clothing/model filled areas. Just to see how things were flowing.
Which is actually what you're doing in this moment; running your fingers along the racks filled with hangers that held all the fitted clothing items. It seemed like fun to be down here, measuring and sewing the different outfits to the men and women, but it also seemed stressful. Everyone's always in a rush, with their exploding New York accents and their flailing around all over the place. It's pretty amusing to watch from afar, but you'd be scared to get in anyone's way. They'd probably just run you over and continue their day unaffected.
With that thought in mind, you abruptly come to a stop when you run into the muscular backside of someone, startling you from your stare on the tiled flooring. You uttered a few apologies, taking a step back and straightening your pencil skirt from its newfound wrinkles.
"Lost, darling?" Your eyes trail the floor before you until they're stuck on a pair of shiny dress shoes, attached to a pair of long legs and a broad chest. Your eyes finally landed on the remarkably handsome face, of someone you didn't quite recognize. It wasn't uncommon to stumble across unknown employees, but could it be him?
"Frankly, no." You shortly answer, studying his jaw-dropping features. He was indubitably perfect, without a doubt. With a nicely trimmed beard decorating his beautifully shaped jawline, and big hazel eyes that stared right back at your own, he seemed unearthly. Like he was God's favorite angel sent down from heaven, just to show you a glimpse of what it'd really be like inside the pearly gates. "Are, um, you?" You weren't exactly nervous, just mystified. His recent smile grew into what seemed to be a smirk, while his right side's dimple grew more prominent.
"I'd like to say that I'm not, but I sadly am." He shrugs with a chuckle, sending a wave of unbeknownst pleasure through your ears and fluttering down your spine, until the ends of your toes were satisfied with his deep and raspy voice. "Could you maybe show me around this gigantic place? I've been in need of assistance for the last hour or so." He questions you, dropping his shoulders back and letting his eyes roam your stature before drifting to the interior of the long hallway the two of you are currently standing around in. "I very well could, but I have a dreadful meeting to attend to within the next five to ten minutes." Actually, the meeting was in fifteen minutes. You just simply wanted to see the man's reaction, which wasn't what you though it'd be;
"Perfect, I'll be in attendance for that as well. If you'd so kindly lead the way, I would most appreciate it." He smoothly negotiated, stuffing his right hand, which was tightly wrapped with an expensive looking watch, into his pocket with another grin. He seemed very eloquent with his words and the way he addressed things, it has to be him?
"Do you mind me asking of your name?" You began as you started your trek back to where you came from, your heels quietly clicking from beneath you as you lead the way, him following close behind. "Dolan, Grayson Dolan." He quickly answered. Indeed you were right in thinking he was the new (and maybe improved) CEO of all Choff productions. "New head guy?"
He only nods, to yet another one of your endless questions. "And what's your name, darling?" He asks as the two of you stop at an elevator, his quick hand beating yours to clicking the slightly worn down button. "Y/N Y/L/N, direct head management under you." You relay before boarding onto the empty elevator, the doors closing moments after the two of you were stood side by side. You fidget with the ends of your skirt, staying as calm as possible under his stare that you couldn't help but shrivel under.
"Under me, huh?" You almost gulped at the sound of his double meaninged phrase. Smart guy, hm? Your heart started beating a bit faster the more you thought of his little statement. Your mind became a whirlwind of visuals and fantasies before you could even stop it. Just those two little words had made you all sorts of a mess, and he hasn't even done much of anything. "Don't get too worked up darling, we have a meeting to attend." He chuckles as he steps off the elevator that had opened only seconds ago. You just scoff, your cheeks reddening as you stride right past him, maneuvering through the expanse of people that had just left the staff room, in order for the upcoming meeting to advance.
The moment you were sat in the room and time had passed to where everyone had finally shown up, you felt that lingering feeling of eyes on you. A pair of hazel eyes to be exact, who was sat far from you at the end of the long table. For meeting him not too long ago, he sure did seem comfortable around everyone. It was entirely too soon for you to be liking him already, better yet imagining different scenarios with him as someone boringly rambled. You decided that you'd forget him for the time being and focus on your job, as much as possible.
Though it would be granted as difficult as time moved on..
"That's the conclusion of this meeting. I thank everyone for being here, and I especially appreciate your appearance, Mr. Dolan. I'm happy to say that things around here will continue a lot smoother than it did in the past. And I know most others would agree." Burt Wallace, one of the coordinators, concluded after standing from his seat to dismiss everyone with a nod. While everyone dillydallied in conversations with one another, you in the other hand, hustled straight out of that room and towards the same elevator you had used earlier. The moment you clicked the button, the doors opened wide and you hopped in, tucking yourself in the corner while you gained your breath. You smile to yourself at the successful 'escape' from any questions or perhaps a witty comment from a certain CEO on the loose.
You sigh happily to yourself, watching the doors close again until a hand is stuck between them, pushing them straight back to reveal the man you were somewhat avoiding. "Care if I join you again?" He asked, but he still entered otherwise, clicking one of the many buttons to make the door close. "Did I have a choice?" You almost scoff, feeling his shoulder brush against your own as he stood in the same spot he had previously stood in. "Nah, not really, but I like to seem like a little bit of a gentleman." He answers, the roll of your eyes substituting for the internal scoff that you hadn't let out. The two of you rode in silence for what seemed to be eternity, only the faint sounds of your breaths being heard. As soon as the elevator door clanged and opened, you made a beeline out of there and hustled toward your organized workspace like there was a snake chasing you.
"What's the rush?" Ana Rita, one of the only tolerable women in this entire building, asked as you ducked under your desk. Even though you hadn't looked back to check, you had a feeling he'd follow you, or worse, ask you to meet him in his office. You weren't exactly sure why you were hiding from him, he seemed pretty nice. But he truly intimidated you. Not in a competitive way, more so a physical way. "And why the fuck are you down there?" The redhead crinkled her brows as she looked down her long nose at you. "Just, shhhh!" You bellow quietly, covering your pursed lips with your index finger.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck. Hot man, six o'clock! Get your ass out of there!" She violently whispered at you, frantically tidying herself for the "hot man," presumably Mr. Dolan as you had predicted, approached your desks. You tightly hug your knees from under your desk, praying to god that he wouldn't somehow see you. "After noon, sir, may I help you?" You cringe at the seductive tone lined in her voice, something that Mr. Dolan unfortunately probably gets a lot of. "I'm looking for Ms. Y/L/N, I have some issues to discuss with her." Yet again, his girthy voice made you sigh with comfort. It's extremely calming to listen to.
"She's actually right hereâ" Ana, the little asshole she is in this moment, points straight at you as you plead with your eyes and shake your head vigorously. You suddenly see his handsome head peer over at you, his brows scrunched with confusion. "Uhm, cords were messed up, gotta fix them." You awkwardly chuckle, patting the outlet box stuffed with all your monitor's cords. You bring yourself out from below your desk as the two stared at you, dusting your front side and settling down in your office chair with a nervous smile.
"I'd like to have a word with you, in my office."

Chapter One
Hound I
"So, are we going to 79's tonight?" Hound asked. He had meant to be subtle about it, but the question burst out of him the moment his well-worn boots crossed the threshold of the small break space allotted to members of the Coruscant Guard.
As break spaces went, the one designated for the Coruscant Guard's clone troopers was an embarrassment. Some determined being had managed to cram a table and a handful of chairs inside, but it was a tight fit. If more than a few fully armored troopers went inside at the same time, none of them would get back out without removing some armor to clear the traffic jam. The lights flickered, the faucet leaked, the floor was always sticky, and the stuffy air held a hint of the chemicals that had been stored there years ago. Since then, the previous break space had been renovated into an office for one of the few nat-born commanding officers and this one had been created for the clone troopers.
Still, the smell of caf was stronger than the smell of chemicals most days and the light from a nearby advertisement screen lit the room so brightly that the flickering lights didn't give any of the troopers a migraine anymore. Hound always was a man who liked to see the glass as half-full. Maybe even a little more than half, if that glass was sitting under the dripping faucet.
Thire snorted at Hound's question, leaning back in his chair until gravity threatened to topple him. "Well, boys? Hound wants to know if we're going to 79's this lovely Friday evening. What do we think?"
Thorn glanced around the room, looking unamused by his brother's antics. "We think I'm the only other one here, di'kut."
"Exactly!" Thire said in triumph, obviously determined to ignore his fellow commander. "It's the weekend! Why wouldn't we go to 79's?"
"Because you've finally realized that it's a glorified zoo?" Thorn snapped, tone venomous. "79's is where civvies go to stare at clone troopers so they can feel like they're being daring. In reality, they're being irritating."
Having spoken his piece, Thorn tossed back the last of his cup of caf, always consumed as dark as his mood. Hound shuddered at the thought. Corrie Guard caf was brewed at the approximate concentration of speeder fuel and could eat through duracrete. Only a trooper who hated himself would drink it black.
Thorn always drank it black.
"So you don't want to go?" Hound asked again, sounding heartbroken.
"No, I'll go," Thorn told him. "Zoo or not, 79's still has the cheapest booze on Coruscant that doesn't use poison as a mixer."
"Well, that's the most excited I've heard Thorn get about anything for a week, at least," Thire smirked. "Commander Fox, you want in on this?"
The Head Commander of the Coruscant Guard, having just stepped into the break room to fill his mug with caf, shook his head. "No, I'm on duty tonight. The Clone Rights group has been cleared to march and the Chancellor wants an extra Guard presence. Stone will be stuck here as well, monitoring any new arrivals."
"Ugh," Hound said, summarizing everyone else's point of view. "Well, we'll be thinking of you both, Commander."
Fox lowered the datapad in his hand to shoot a look in Hound's direction. "Sergeant, don't you have that ARF PR stunt tomorrow at 0800?"
Hound shrugged. "Yeah, but I can do both."
"Make sure you don't miss it," Fox ordered sternly. "The last thing I need is to have to report to the Chancellor that you missed a chance to give the GAR a boost in civil opinion."
Hound saluted and Fox turned his attention to the other break room occupants. "Thorn, if you let your stubble get any longer, it'll be considered a beard and subject to facial hair regulations. Thire, sit on the chair like a normal being, would you?"
Thorn nodded and Thire grinned as he let the chair's legs slam onto the floor. Fox rolled his eyes at their antics, refilled his cup of caf, and left the break area. Hound idly wondered how many of the gray hairs appearing at the Head Commander's temples were due to the commanding officer team. Still, the Chancellor had let Fox choose his own team of COs, so there was no one to blame but himself.
"Meet at 2100?" Thire asked. "That's prime time for 79's and there'll be plenty of talent. I'll go ahead and apologize, vode. When you look this good, you automatically get your pick of the females."
Thire brushed a hand back across his hair - meticulously trimmed to maintain the subtle horizontal lines shaved into the otherwise regulation cut - and grinned at the other two. Hound and Thire rolled their eyes, but agreed anyway.

Kai I
"Hey, do you guys want to go to 79's tonight?" Kai asked, perched on the desk she was supposed to be sitting behind. She was always restless and neither of the other women blamed her for the odd choice of seat - even though it made inter-desk communication a bit of a pain.
Arkularia - who, for the sake of Kai's sanity, allowed the others to call her 'Ark' - was the first to respond. "79's? The clone bar?"
"Do you want to drink, dance, or find a one-night stand?" Ransom asked from behind her expansive tech setup. "Because there are better places for any of those. Closer, too."
"No, I want to go to 79's," Kai said, kicking up her chin. "And as for what I want⊠I want all of them. All three options, please and thank you."
"Did you just try to order a night out? Like from a menu?" Ransom asked. From the tone of her voice, Kai had managed to earn a rare smile from her boss. Of course, that was only a guess since Ransom didn't emerge from her den so Kai could verify the expression.
"No⊠but can you imagine how much easier that would be?" Kai asked in her own defense.
"It would take some of the fun out of it, I think," Ark said slowly.
Kai chucked a wad of flimsi at her friend and co-worker's head, cheering to herself as it connected and bounced off of Ark's white-blonde hair. "I know that, Ark! C'mon guys, do you want to come to 79's with me or not?"
"I'm out," Ransom said immediately, shutting down the projector option on her desk. She was still illuminated by the ambient light from the schematics on her datapad. The cybernetic implants in Ransom's arm gleamed in the blue glow as she dragged a hand over her shaved head. "I have to work late if we have any hope of finishing our next job on time."
"Ark?" Kai asked, not too proud to sound like she was begging.
Ark sighed, pale eyes hopeless in the face of Kai's wheedling. "Fine, I'll go along."
"Yes!"
"Ransom, are you sure you can't come, too?" Ark asked, her voice a bit desperate.
"I really do have to stay and work on this," Ransom apologized, gesturing at her assortment of datapads. "My condolences."
"We're going to a club, not facing a firing squad!" Kai admonished. "Besides, I just want to find someone fun."
"Like that last guy?" Ark asked, squinting a bit as she applied her prodigious memory to her own question. "What was his name?"
"Not sure," Kai admitted. "But he was so much fun! Great tattoos."
"So you are looking for a hookup! I knew it," Ransom crowed.
Ark frowned. "Why a clone trooper? They're never on-planet for long before they have to leave."
"Exactly," Kai said with a wink. "Love 'em and leave 'em."
"Didn't the last one stick around for a while? I thought I remembered seeing him more than a few timesâŠ" Ark pondered.
"Hardcase! His name was Hardcase," Ransom remembered. "He came by every day of his leave."
"Strange name," Ark commented.
"Strange guy," Ransom said with a shrug.
"But he was hot," Kai countered, folding a piece of flimsi to look like a tooka. At least it did in her imagination. "And so much fun. I need another someone like him."
"What happened to him?" Ark asked curiously.
Kai would have blushed if she had any shame - too bad for Coruscant that she didn't. Instead, she pouted. "He moved on with a Zeltron who works at GAR headquarters. That's the best place to meet troopers, but they don't give access to civilians unless they have official business."
"Hardcase didn't seem like the type to ghost you out of nowhere," Ransom mused.
"I⊠may have freaked out about him asking me to be his girlfriend," Kai admitted. "I don't want anything serious, you know? Besides, I'm the one who introduced him to the new girl. She's a sweetheart. He adores her and she's the same about him. Can't be too upset with that."
Ark and Ransom exchanged loaded glances, but Kai had no interest in a therapy session. "Right! So, Ransom, you're still out?"
"I have no interest in coming along and I have work to do here."
"Well, that was almost nice," Kai congratulated. "Ark, it's you and me. When should we go?"
Ark shrugged. "Why don't we just stop there on the way home from work?"
"Are you kidding?" Kai asked, aghast at the idea. "We aren't exactly wearing Senatorial dress, but we're still too professional for a club! No, we need to go home, change, and meet there. How long do you need?"
"I don't know⊠half an hour?"
"How long do you need to find an outfit that makes sense in a club setting?" Kai rephrased her question.
"Two hours," Ark corrected herself, sounding sheepish.
"That's more like it," Kai said, satisfied. Her look turned wicked as she said, "Now, let's talk about makeupâŠ"
"Are you sure you don't need any help here, Ransom?" Ark asked their boss, her eyes widening with hidden significance.
"No, it's too late!" Kai denied. "Meet me at my apartment and I'll help you. Let's say eight."
Ark glanced back at Ransom, who gave a sympathetic shrug. Ark sighed. "Fine, eight."

A/N - Hello, and welcome to yet another Clone Wars-based story! I can't leave these poor guys alone. They deserve so much more than they got! So, you may have noticed that some of the characters are a bit different from the way they are normally portrayed in fan fiction. The first fic I read with the Coruscant Guard had Thire as a happy joking guy and Thorn as a serious doom-and-gloom trooper. I'm coming to realize that is not typical for fanon interpretations, but those characterizations are embedded in my mind. I hope you didn't find this too jarring!
I'm experimenting with a new Game of Thrones-style POV tracking format. Hopefully that will keep things from getting too confusing as we bounce back and forth across eight different POVs! I apologize for the short length of this chapter, but it's just a simple introduction of (most of) the characters.

Live Like Animals
Nessian Modern AU
Merry Chris- er, happy New Year to my secret snowflake! @ncssian đđ
I hope you like the fic! Iâll be honest, when I filled out the application for the secret snowflake, I said I could make a fic believing that it was very unlikely somebody would ask for one đ„Žđ€ But lemme say, I LOVED writing this, which is definitely something I didnât expect. More than that, Iâve never been much of a Nesta or Nessian fan, but actually thinking through their characters and interactions for this fic gave me a whole new perspective on and appreciation for them (even if Iâm not the best at writing their characters, aha), so thank you!
A few quick things about the fic:
(Ik I already told you this, but for anybody else reading this aha) This is my first fic! So please take it easy on me đ„șđđ»đđ»
Okay so this part is kind of weird, but thereâs kind of a corresponding playlist đ
Each part is named after a song. You can play the songs while reading or not, I know for me personally (*cough* my ADHD ass) itâs hard to listen to music and read at the same time. The title is also the name of a song! Except that one is more random, haha (I couldnât think of a title, so I shuffled my entire library and chose the first song as the title, and it kinda worked so I went with it)
One more quick thing â thanks to @moussescientist @ko0mbayamylord @blxckbeak @chanberry @mikitheswiftie @potatoburp @dead-on-the-inside666 @queenoffortunes and two anons for answering a question, and a HUGE thanks to Skye, @oneoutofamillionbooklovers for all your help and for roleplaying the parts I got stuck on with me â€ïž
Part 1: Distant Early Warning (Rush)
Nesta pulled the dress over her head, letting it slide into place over her body. Screw this, she thought for the millionth time, yet she continued to get herself ready, turning to glance at her reflection when she was finished. She raised an eyebrow and nodded slightly at the woman looking back through the mirror. The woman Nesta spied had on a satin slip dress, darkest blue. She wore no jewelry save for the small silver studs in her ears, and her hair was pulled into a neat-yet-simple updo.
Why Nesta even agreed to go to this party she didnât know. There was nothing different about it, just another college booze fest. The music would be too loud, the air too heavy, the guys too grabby, and the company too... clubby. Feyre insisted that she would fit right into her friend group â her clique â but Nesta wasnât sure she wanted that. She padded over to the door of her apartment. No, Nesta was quite certain that âfitting inâ with Feyreâs newfound friends was something she didnât care for at all.
Nestaâs phone buzzed on her kitchen counter as she slipped on a pair of black heels, and she picked up to Feyreâs forcibly perky voice. âHey! We just pulled up, you coming?â
âNo.â Response blunt, tone dry. The line was silent for a long moment, and Nesta held in a sigh. âDid I give you the impression that I was interested in coming?â
âNesta, Iâm not in the mood for fucking around,â Feyre said, perkiness mysteriously faded now. âItâs just one party! I promise youâll have fun.â Bullshit.
âSince when have I ever-â
âAnd everyone else really wants you to come, too!â Feyre cut her off, âRhys is excited to meet you!â
Rhys. Feyreâs boyfriend. Nesta groaned inwardly, truly dreading any interaction with the rugby star. Feyre had immediately caught the eye of the local heartthrob, and the two began a serious relationship shortly after meeting. And with one came the others. In high school they would have been labeled âpopular.â They were quite possibly the closest group of friends at the college, almost all of them having known each other since childhood. And Feyre had slipped right in among them. Nesta had warned Feyre against making the tight pack of fourth-years her main group of friends, and she had her own opinions about a freshman dating a senior, but Feyre didnât make a habit of following Nestaâs advice. Rather, she seemed to think she could give Nesta â a third-year â much more valuable guidance. Domineering bitch.
âI donât give a shit about your friends, Feyre. Iâm only coming because of our deal,â Nesta said. Feyre had been pestering her all semester, spewing crap about how Nesta and Feyre should spend more time together. Nesta should get out more. Nesta should tag along with Feyreâs friend group. Nesta should have some fun.Â
More bullshit.Â
As second semester began, Feyre had proposed a deal: Nesta would go to one party with Feyre and her buddies, and if she honestly didnât enjoy it, Feyre would stop asking her to join them.Â
âIâm on my way. Letâs just get it over with,â Nesta grumbled, and with that, she hung up the phone and opened the apartment door.
Part 2: Can You Afford to Be An Individual? (Nothing but Thieves
Nesta looked around the group of fourth-yearsâplus Feyreâarranged in front of her. Introductions were unnecessary; you couldnât attend this school without knowing who they were. Her eyes fell first upon Rhys, his arm around Feyreâs waist. His chin lifted slightly as she made eye contact. Rhys: double major in history and foreign policy. President of the astrology club. Captain of the rugby team, possibly one of the best players the school had ever seen. He was the group leader, though nobody said it aloud. Nesta knew him well. Perhaps she only knew his type well, or her own perception of his type, but that didnât keep her from holding his gaze a few moments longer than would be comfortable. Then she turned her scrutiny on his sidekicks, so she called them, Cassian and Azriel. The former wore jeans and a baggy black jacket over his rugby uniform in the school colors: black and red. The latter wore black pants with a dark blue button-down shirt untucked.
Cassian smirked as her eyes met his. âGlad you decided to make an appearance,â he drawled. She narrowed her eyes at him, and his smile widened in response. Cocky bastard. Azriel, double majoring in political science and criminology, simply nodded at her in greeting.
After the sidekicks came Rhysâs cousin Mor, an architecture major with a minor in design. She was entirely too peppy in a way that left Nesta exhausted, but Nesta wouldnât give her satisfaction by scoffing at her cocked hip and half-grin, ostensibly projecting confidence. She held Morâs stare, matching her asserted confidence with a cool security in her own assets. The half-smile twisted, just slightly, and Nesta moved on to the short girl farthest to the right: Amren.
Amren scared people. As in, people were genuinely freaked out by her. Aside from a few cultish tendencies, her occasional propensity for violence and/or verbal outbursts, and her sharp expression, though, Nesta couldnât tell why. Amren majored in gemology and minored in linguistics, and was the only one in the group other than Feyre to have not known the others since they were little. In fact, she was studying here from abroad, though nobody actually knew where she was from. Unlike Mor, Amren presented a confidence that Nesta could believe in and respect. Nesta maintained her chilled posture, but let the bite in her expression retreat.
As for Feyreâs introducing Nesta, that was unnecessary as well. They all knew her; most upperclassmen did. Or rather they knew of her, by the name of heinous bitch. If she were being honest with herself, she didnât mind the nickname.
âOkay,â Feyre started, her voice expectant as she tilted her chin to look at Rhysâs face, âLetâs head in?â Feyre, Rhys, and Nesta had met up with the rest of the group in the parking lot before they entered the party. Fashionably late, Feyre had told her on the drive in Rhysâs tesla. Rhys taught me that the key to maintaining his public image is in making grand entrances. God, Nesta wanted to laugh at Rhysâs influence over her.
As they entered the building holding the party Nesta immediately stiffened, and had to close her eyes for a moment against the harsh blue and purple lights cast by PAR cans. All senses at once were smacked by the presence of weed. The floor was vibrating, and speakers blasted near-deafening music so that all Nesta could really hear was thunder. Jesus Christ, I hate parties, she thought. A mass of sweaty bodies shifted and bounced through the too-heavy air ahead of her, some only silhouettes in the murky haze, through which Nesta saw red solo cups littering every possible surface. Suddenly she noticed Feyre standing next to her, fidgeting with her clutch and looking over expectantly. Nesta shot her a withering look that said, âThis is not what we agreed to.â Feyre had the nerve to look guilty.
âOkay before you say anything,â Feyre began, âI know that look, and... I know this is a bit bigger than we talked about-â
âA bit?! This is a rager, Feyre. Do I look like I rage?â
âOkay no, but I promise Rhys and I have a plan.â Oh my God.
Nesta gave her another glare and plucked a cup off a nearby table. Sniffing it, she sighed and took a big swig. âPlease, my dearest sister, do tell.â
âWeâre going with a buddy system.â
Nesta coughed. âA buddy system â are you fucking kidding me?â She spied Rhys and his dickhead friends in the corner of her eye. âWow, are arts and crafts before or after beer pong?â
Feyre rolled her eyes, calling a fresh wave of frustration to roll over Nesta. âCan you shut it with the attitude, Nesta? I already apologized for the crowd of people â it kind of got out of hand. Rhys told me before we left but I didnât want to scare you out of coming.â She gave Nesta a pleading look.
âTch, whatever. Whoâs my buddy? I assume youâll be with Rhys?â
Feyre beamed at her. âYouâre paired up with Cassian!â
âCassian.â Great. Alpha dickhead.
âDonât be like that. He knows his way around these things and heâll keep you from accidentally overdosing or blacking out.âÂ
âWho said that wasnât my intention?âÂ
Feyre scrunched her face up. âEither way, you canât deny that heâs bigger and taller than half the creepy guys here. Heâll keep unwanted attention away.âÂ
Nesta watched as Rhys, lead hulking rugby bro dickhead, caught sight of her sister and eyed her with what might have been lust or love â Nesta couldnât decide. Cassian, approaching from Rhysâs side, cut Nesta a slow, purposeful look down and back up to her face. She felt an annoying tingle down her spine as the crowds parted for them. This was going to be a long night.
Part 3: Inhaler (Foals)
They had been at the party for less than ten minutes and Nesta already wanted to leave. Drink in hand, she aimlessly wandered around the outskirts of the crowd, hoping to find a place to sit farther from the lights that drowned out any rational thought that flashed through her brain. Cassian trailed a few steps behind.
âSo, what do you do for fun?â
She twisted around to glare at him. âWhy are you talking to me?â
Cassian puffed out a laugh and spread his arms wide, responding, âIf you donât recall, weâre kind of stuck together, darling.â
Right. Nesta rolled her eyes. âHow could I forget?â Cassian left the question hanging, still following her, so she forged on. âI like to read. A concept thatâs probably foreign to you.â She dodged a young couple parting from the fray to make out against the wall, and paused to reorient herself.
âYou might be surprised.â Nesta groaned inwardly and arched a brow. âOh I have no doubt.â
âNone at all?â
âWhat. Are you on volume seven of Captain Underpants?â
âVolume eight, actually.â
Nesta stopped. She was pissed. Pissed at this party, pissed at Feyre for lying about how big it was, pissed that she was stuck with rugby bro sidekick, pissed that the purple lights suddenly seemed a lot brighter, the music a lot louder, her thoughts a lot fuzzier. âLook, Cassian. I only came here as a favor to my sister. Weâre not friends.â He started to cut her off, but she continued, turning so that they fully faced each other, âYou donât have to stay, I can take care of myself.â
He leaned in close, the laughter in his tone suddenly gone. âListen, princess. Youâve had two beers and youâre already tipsy. I get it, weâre not friends. But there are at least four guys looking at you like they want to take you against the nearest surface and Iâm the only man within a thirty-foot radius that has any self-control. Thereâs no way Iâm leaving.â He held her gaze firmly.
âSo thatâs it â Iâm just supposed to trust you? My knight in shining armor, here to protect my virtue? That ship sailed a long time ago.â Fuck it. âI wouldnât mind taking you for a ride though,â Nesta said, flashing a smirk at the end.
Cassianâs lips twisted into a half-grin, but she could see annoyance rising up in his eyes. âNesta, you donât wanna play with me.â
âBrute.â Nesta turned and started walking away again.
âBitch.â He followed.
Nesta scoffed. âHow original.â
âNot all of us are English Lit majors.âÂ
Somehow Nesta tripped on her own foot at that moment, staggering sideways into Cassianâs path. He lunged forward, arms going around her waist to hoist her upright. Her lip curled and she spit out, âAnd not all of us are rugby stars,â and shoved her way out of his arms.
âWhat does that have to do with anything?â Cassian asked, incredulous.
âCassian, Iâm sure there are plenty of girls here that would love your attention. But Iâm not one of them.â She turned around to face him, walking backwards, and almost tripped again. âSo go on and play with someone else. I donât care. Just leave me alone.â With that, Nesta thrust herself into the fray, pushing her way through the mass of shouting people, making the crowd a barrier between herself and Cassian.
Part 4: Emergency (Nothing but Thieves)
After five minutes of random college students bumping into her from every direction, her head pounding and thoughts muddled, Nesta realized she didnât know which direction the exit was in. Fuck. She was disoriented and exasperated, her frustration now showing in her usually unshakable expression. She couldnât even tell which direction the light was coming from. How many beers had she drunk? Two? Three? She wasnât usually a drinker, and it hit her then that she hadnât eaten for hours before the party started. Stupid, she thought. This was why she didnât do parties.
She was so distracted trying to figure out where the light source was, trying to get her bearings at least, that she didnât catch sight of a brooding figure wending its way toward her until the man had a hold of her wrist and was pulling her to the side of the room, wherever that was.Â
âHey! Get the fuck off me!â Nesta shouted over the crowd, but couldnât get a response from the man until they found one of the cinder block walls.
âWhatâs the matter, sweetheart?â he asked, his voice cruel as he tried to pull her closer. âWeâre just having a bit of fun, thatâs all.â
âExcuse me?â Nesta ripped free of his grasp, but he backed her into a corner. He had a drink in one hand. Not good.
âHey, hey, no need to get worked up,â he drawled, âI saw the way you were looking at me.â Looking at him? Nesta thought. This was the first sheâd seen of him.
Nesta tried to step to the side, but the man followed her, his senses keener than hers in her condition. He reached out for her arm again, and Nesta shouted this time. âDonât touch me!â
He put his hand up as if in innocence. âCome now, Iâll make it fun for you. Just have a drink.â He brought the cup toward her face, his hand now reaching behind her head, which she snatched away.
âI swear to God, canât you bastards understand that no means no?â
âYou-â
âGet the fuck away from me, creep!â She aimed a kick at his groin, but he easily dodged it.
His mouth hardened into a line, and he growled, âJust take the damn drink, bitch!â
The man shoved her into the corner, her head hitting the wall. He brought his hand up to hold her back by her shoulders as he brought the cup up toward her lips and-
âLet me go or I promise youâll regret it.â Last resort.Â
He shot her a crooked grin and began to reply, but whatever response he had in mind was cut short.
A voice from behind him said, âAnd she never goes back on a promise, asshole.â The man was wrenched off her body by two strong hands, and pulled over to the side to give her an out, which she quickly took advantage of.
And there, dragging the man away from her, was Cassian.
The creep tried to play it cool. âHey, Cassian, bro, whatâs up, man?â he said mock-casually, âI caught your last game! great playing, dude!â His demeanor shifted completely as he turned on his bro mode.
Cassianâs jaw was set. He tightened his grip on the manâs shoulder, his stare withering. âYou need to leave. Right now.â
Yet the man kept going with a smirk, âItâs all good bro, we can share.âÂ
That was a step too far.
Cassian grabbed the manâs shirt, pulling him close. âThatâs the thing â I donât share. I donât play nice.â Cassian thrust his face forward so they were only a couple inches apart. âYou said you caught my last game, right? So you know I donât go down without a fight. Touch her again and youâll regret it.â With that, he shoved the guy into a table, and turned to Nesta. âCome on, Iâll take you home.â
Part 5: Before We Drift Away (Nothing but Thieves)
Dizzy and shaken, Nesta let Cassian guide her through the crowd to the exit. Once they were outside in the cool night air, he pulled her aside, gaze dark.
âDid he hurt you?â
âNo.â
âDid he force you to drink whatever was in that cup?â
âNo.â
His eyes closed and relief flooded across his face. âGood. God, some people are fucked up. I donât know what I would have done if he had drugged you, or taken you away, or...â He trailed off, leaving anything further than that unsaid.Â
They were silent for a minute. Nesta looked up at him, a bit of worry still etched across his features. âWhy?â
âWhy what?â
âWhy do you care so much?â
He looked over to her, something strange in his expression that Nesta couldnât place. âI donât know. Youâre a human being, and your safety was left in my hands.â He paused and looked away. âIf Iâm being honest, when I saw that guy put his hands on you... I donât know. Something flipped inside me.â At that moment he looked down to her bare shoulders, noticing that she was beginning to shiver. âYouâre cold,â he said softly. âHere, take this.â He removed his jacket and draped it over her shoulders, even when she protested.
Nesta frowned as she gave in and pulled his jacket tightly around her, annoyed at the way her body betrayed her. âI donât need protection. Iâve lived a long time without people to care about me.â She started walking toward the parking lot, and he followed.
âYou shouldnât have to live like that, Nesta. Youâve been pushing me away all night, but listen to me â donât you understand? Iâm not just talking to you because Iâm bored. I donât smile at you as a game, as if youâre some prize for me to win. Canât you see by now that Iâm doing literally everything I can just to stay by your side? Damn it, I asked Feyre to pair us together at the party.â
Nesta had stopped walking and was speechless for once.
Cassian stepped closer tentatively, as though sheâd back away. He ran a finger over Nestaâs wrist and looked up to the sky. âPlease, just donât make me say anything else completely insane. I promise Iâm not in the habit of sharing intense moments with perfect strangers.â
A rush of anger coursed through Nesta, and she shoved him back. âDonât,â she said. âDonât talk to me like that. Despite what you must think, Iâm not an idiot. Iâm not naive. I am well aware that this is all a favor to my sister. Stay with my lame, antisocial sister. It might be fun, right?â She paused, any restraint she had used earlier having completely abandoned her.
âThatâs not what I think at all, Nes-â
âFuck you, Cassian.â She shoved him again, more aggressively this time.
Cassian caught her wrists and pulled her closer. âTry that again.â
Nesta glared. âBite me,â she spit out.
âMaybe I will.â
And as though drawn to her by some gravitational force, Cassianâs mouth came crashing down onto hers. He wrapped his arms around her waist, seeming to lift her off her feet. Nestaâs bare skin burned where Cassian touched her, and she pushed back against his touch to gain control. Everything, every thought was fading to nothing. Biting down on his lip drew out a low groan from Cassian, and Nesta broke free.
Cassian put his hands up as though to make a barrier between them, as though he wouldnât be able to control himself without it.Â
âSo much for being the only man with self-control,â Nesta said. Cassian just shook his head, earning a light snort from Nesta. âI shut everyone out--even pretty jocks like you. Donât take it personally. Itâs just easier.â
Cassian smiled his easy smile, and he reached up to touch his lips with a thumb. âYou think Iâm pretty?â
Nesta scoffed. âThe prettiest.â
He stood there for a moment, just smiling at her, before turning back toward the parking lot. âOkay, princess, allow me to introduce you to the pinnacle of after-party activities.â
Nesta raised a brow, and Cassian let out a bark of laughter.
âGet your mind out of the gutter. Iâm talking about pancakes.â
She looked skeptical. âPancakes?â
âYes. And after the night you had, you deserve an entire plate of them.â Cassian reached out to her with his big, warm hand, and Nesta hesitated.
âCassian-â She started warily.
âHey â Iâm not asking you to marry me, itâs just pancakes.â
Nesta waited a moment more, then took his hand. âFine. But Iâm not sharing the chocolate sauce.â
âI wouldnât dare ask you to. Besides, you already know how I feel about sharing.â
Nesta smiled a bit. âHey Cassian?
âYes Nesta?â
âThank you.â
âAnytime.â

Iâm Sorry
Pairing: Marcus Pike x f!reader Rating: T Word count: 1,961 Warnings: Alcohol mention, swearing, drinking/getting drunk alone, angst, verbal fighting, no beta
Summary: All couples fight eventually, but this time leaves you questioning your relationship with Marcus
A/N: This is a fic for the following anonymous request:Â â Hi!! I was wondering if your Pedro requests are still open? Cause if they are Iâd like to request a Marcus Pike or Frankie Morales piece, where they like get into an argument with you and itâs like super angsty, but yâall make up in the end ((:Â â I hope you enjoy it dear!
Masterlist | Ao3
âYou absolute CHILD!â you shriek as you slam the door open, storming into the home you shared with Marcus.
âOh, Iâm the child?! Youâre the one throwing a temper tantrum!â Marcus slams the door closed with just as much force as you slammed it open.
âYes, Pike. Youâre the child! I cannot believe you right now.â You wheel on him, stabbing your finger against his chest as you glare up at him. âDo you even realize how fucking embarrassed I am right now? Iâm never going to be able to show my face at a work function ever again all because you decided to turn into a little green-eyed monster! Child!â Marcus snarls, grabbing your wrist to pull it away from his chest. His grip was firm, but even in the heat of the anger and jealousy you could see bubbling in his eyes, he was still gentle enough to not hurt you.
âAnd what would you have had me do, huh?! Just let your ex sit there and cozy up to you like that? He had his hands on you and his eyes hadnât left you all freaking night!â
You yank your wrist from his grasp, absolutely seething. âWeâre coworkers! We have an image to upkeep as far as being cordial with each other, especially in front of share holders! Marcus, there were investors there, and your little outburst has put every single deal involving them in jeopardy!â You rip your shoes off, the uncomfortable heels not aiding your mood in the slightest. âAll because you got jealous of my ex. All because you couldnât stand to see me being friendly with someone who use to be in my life. I have never done something like that to you! Not when your high school sweetheart left you flowers. Not when Lisbon sauntered her happy ass into your office, perched herself on you desk, and FIXED YOUR FUCKING HAIR!â Marcusâ nostrils flare as he towers over you, his voice low when he speaks again.
âDonât bring them into this, this isnât about them.â
âOh like hell it isnât! You know why I didnât care about those two? Cause I was confident you wouldnât do anything to hurt or betray me. Because I fucking love you and trust you! But apparently you donât feel the same way, if your self confidence is so low that you canât stand to see me laughing with my ex without deciding itâs an appropriate time to throw hands!â That was a low blow, and you knew it, but you were so angry the words were out of your mouth before you could stop them. The two of you stand there in the living room, shoulders heaving as you pant for air. You could hear a pin drop, and the tension was so thick it felt suffocating. Slowly, the anger fades from Marcusâ eyes, replaced only with pain as his expression shifts. You cut him deep with that comment, you know you did, and it hurt to see that pain in his gentle eyes.
âM...MarcusâŠâ Your voice is much softer now as you reach for his hand, but he takes a step back out of your reach, shaking his head.
âDonât,â he whispers, turning and grabbing the car keys from the bowl as he all but runs from the house. You stand there frozen, hand outstretched as you listen to the sound of the car engine starting followed by the tires squealing as he tears out of the driveway. Tears brim in your eyes, spilling over as you begin to tremble.
What have you done?
The minutes turn into hours as you sit in the dark of your living room, waiting on your Marcus to return. An empty wine bottle sits on the coffee table next to a second nearly empty one. You swirl the pale liquid in your glass before bringing it to your lips to down the rest of it. Your once manicured nails have been bitten down to the nail bed, a nasty habit of yours when your anxiety gets the better of you. A habit that hadnât reared its ugly head since the day you met Marcus⊠Two in the morning and he still isnât home and youâre getting worried. You had messed up, and big time. You know how much Marcus struggles with his own confidence after how Lisbon had treated him. You know that, and you still felt the need to fling it in his face. Words said out of anger, words you didnât mean...you couldnât take them back now, no matter how much you wished you could.
A fresh round of sobs bubble from your throat as your hand flies to your mouth in an attempt to hold them back. Marcus is the best thing to have ever happened to you, how the hell could you do something like this to him, no matter how angry you were. You rub your eyes, looking like a raccoon from the smeared makeup, before you stagger to your feet. You wanted Marcus. You needed him. You needed him here, at home, where you could apologize until your voice goes hoarse and it still wouldnât be enough.
The world spins around you, the two bottles of wine catching up to you as you stagger through the living room before falling to your knees. You cradle your face in your hands, sobs wracking your chest. Please come home Marcus, please come home. You donât hear the key in the lock over the sound of your sobs, but when you feel the rush of air from the door opening, your head snaps up, bleary eyes searching desperately for the love of your life.
âMarcus?â you whimper, barely audible.
âOh, love...what did you do?â he murmurs as he shuts the door before coming to your side, cradling your cheek gently. Desperate hands reach out to grab his shirt, now wrinkled and untucked from his pants, his jacket missing and sleeves rolled to the elbows.
âI-Iâm s-s-sorry Marcus!â you wail, collapsing against him. His gentle arms wrap around you and he sighs, resting his head on top of yours. âI s-shouldnât h-ha-have said wh-what I did! I was wr-wrong and c-cruel! P-please d-donât leave m-me!â you plead, trembling against him.
âLeave you? Darling, I wouldnât do that to you.â He leans back and tilts your chin up to look at him, paying no mind to the black splotches your makeup leaves against his once crisp white button down. His thumb traces along your chin before his hand moves to cup your face, running his thumb along your cheek bone. âYou smell like wine...how much have you had?â You shake your head, ignoring the question as you continue to cling to him, your sobs slowing.
âI love you and I d-dinât mean what I said,â you whimper. âDon go again, p-please don g-go again.â
âSweetheart, Iâm not going anywhere, I just needed to cool down. Calm down, youâre going to make yourself sick.â He brushes your hair from your face as best he can before pulling you back against his chest, slowly rocking you in the middle of the floor. His hand pets your hair gently, soothingly as the remaining cries slowly abate. âLetâs get you to bed, love. Alright? We can discuss this more in the morning.â You mumble something unintelligible against his chest as he helps you stagger to your feet, guiding you to the bedroom. He carefully sits you on the bed, helping you undress down to your bra and underwear, removing your jewelry before going to get a warm cloth, helping to wipe your face. Finally, he hands you a glass of water which you stubbornly refuse at first. âBaby, please? For me?â You crumble, taking the glass and chugging it. He smiles and takes the glass back before gently laying you down so youâre slightly elevated.
When he joins you in bed you roll to snuggle against him, soaking in his warmth as he wraps his arms around you. The last words from your lips before you slip into unconsciousness are a very slurred Iâm sorry.
The light of the day streaking across your face is what wakes you in the morning, and you groan as you come around, your head absolutely pounding. Your eyes feel like theyâre full of sand and you can barely open them. Every joint in your body hurts and your mouth tastes like sandpaper. Slowly sitting up, you see a glass of water sitting on the nightstand next to two pain pills which you quickly take, downing the whole glass. As you dig the heels of your palms into your eyes in an attempt to dull the ache, last night comes rushing back to you and a wave of intense shame washes over you. A quiet rustling draws your attention to the door, and you seem Marcus peeking in. He gives you his gorgeous smile, one you feel you donât deserve as he comes in.
âGood morning beautiful,â he whispers, knowing your head is probably killing you.
âHi, MarcusâŠâ He takes a seat on the bed next to you, taking your hand.
âHow are you feeling?â
âLike shit...for a few reasons.â You look down at your connected hands, yours fitting so perfectly into his. âIâm sorry.â
âWant to elaborate on that?â He asks gently, lifting your face to look at him. There is a pained light in his eyes still that grows when he sees the shame and sadness in your own.
âFor everything. For yelling, for that low blow, for...for getting drunk alone, for accusing you of bullshit and...and IâŠâ you begin to tremble, his hand on your face the only thing keeping the tears at bay. âAnd I was so terrible to you and Iâm so sorry, Marcus, Iâm so fucking sorry.â Your voice is barely above a whisper as his hand leaves your face to place on the back of your head, pulling you against him. He smells as he always does, like cinnamon and coffee and his fresh aftershave and you use that smell to ground yourself.
âIâm sorry too, love of my life. I shouldnât have behaved that way at the banquet, and Iâve already taken measures to mitigate what damage I may have done.â You shake your head, pulling back to look up at him.
âScrew the deals. Theyâre temporary.â You reach up to cup his cheek, your heart swelling as he leans into your touch. âYouâre the one Iâm in love with, the one I want to spend forever with. Everything else can burn to the ground, I just need you. Iâll always need you.â He smiles at you, that pain in his eyes fading as he watches you for a moment before leaning in to press his lips gently to yours. When he pulls back, he brushes your hair from your face before pressing his forehead to yours.
âWe both acted like a couple of fools last night. Letâs put it behind us, ok? Weâll move forward and be better.â He takes your hand and places it over his heart. âItâs yours, completely and totally. I trust and love you with everything I am. Iâll be better, for you. For us.â Your eyes prickle with tears and you sniffle before leaning up to kiss him again.
âI love you too Marcus, so much. Youâre my everything. Iâll be better for you, because you only deserve the best.â
He grins, placing a kiss on your nose. âHey, thatâs my line.â
You giggle softly, cuddling into him as he lays you back down to get a few more hours of rest. Itâs all ok, you think. Itâs all going to be ok. You still have your Marcus, and that is all that matters.

can I have a shoto todoroki x reader where the reader is giving him the silent treatment for some reason (he hurt her feelings on accident or forgot something important, like a date or something, whatever you come up with (: ) and heâs freaking out about it wondering what he did wrong? tysm đ
hello, hello! apologies for making you wait so long, but at long last, here is poor ShĆto, trying his best to work his way through this unfortunate predicament heâs landed himself in.Â
warnings: none, rated o for obliviousÂ
Youâd been a little quiet lately.Â
But, on the whole, that wasnât too unusual. Everyone needs time to themselves, ShĆto knows that and he respects the lull in your texts, the absence of your afternoon phone calls. Youâre a busy side-kick and heâs got his own hectic rotations of hero work to shuffle through, too.Â
Sure, he tells himself, trying to resist peering at his phone for the millionth time, youâre just busy or youâre feeling overwhelmed. He gets that.Â
He doesnât want to pester you, so he lets the radio silence linger, even though itâs starting to make him feel a little on edge. The two of you have been dating since he graduated from UA. And, what does that make it now, a little over a year? Yeah, that sounds about right. He really likes you, enough to bring you over to meet his sister and his older brother. Youâd made a great impression on them and Fuyumi kept asking him when he was going to introduce you to their father.Â
Soon, he lied, ducking from her bright smile.Â
Itâs not that he thinks youâd mesh poorly with his father, no, youâd be wonderful, like you always are, heâs just not wanting to go to the trouble. Not with him.Â
Deep down he knows itâs just because he doesnât want to make Endeavor think heâs giving him a fucking inch. He couldnât care less what his old man thought about you. Besides, itâs not like he doesnât know about the two of you. Heâs a pro hero, heâs got connections everywhere. So, no. ShĆto doesnât want to introduce you to his father. Endeavor knows you exist and he knows his youngest son his dating you. Yeah, thatâs more than enough acknowledgement to go around, and itâs more than Endeavor deserves.Â
ShĆto knows he has your support and affection and, for now, thatâs all the approval he needs. Itâs all heâs ever needed, really. Â
Things have been going so well, but he canât shake that ominous feeling that keeps creeping over him.Â
Itâs like thereâs something heâs missed. His troubled mood doesnât fit with the beauty of the spring thatâs broken over Japan. No, itâs too gloomy, too dark without you by his side. He can remember the day heâd given you his number and asked you out. It had been under this sprawling cherry tree and youâd looked so happy. It made him ache a little bit, to see you like that. Crazy itâs already been a year, time really does fly when youâre with someone you like. Â
Wait.Â
He forgot to clock out. Eh, he can just send a message to one of the other sidekicks at his fatherâs agency. They know he can be a bit forgetful, so theyâll understand.Â
Now, letâs see if youâll answer a text. Heâs famished. Heâs worked another 12 hour shift and put in some extra training, so heâs praying youâll get back to him before he has to resort to going to a soba stand. Not that heâd mind getting some cold soba, but food always seems to taste better when he can share it with you.Â
After he sends you that text, he paces around one of the local parks, talking with a few locals and signing some autographs. Even though heâs making waves of his own now, his biggest claim to fame is being Endeavorâs son. He tries to not let the annoyance of his birthright bother him, but it does get frustrating when thatâs the main comment he hears.Â
His phone vibrates and he excuses himself from a conversation with an older pro heâd run into, tugging his phone from his back pocket. Itâs a text and itâs from you.
ShĆto swipes across the screen and smiles at your answer. You had some time and youâd love to get some food. Perfect.
The restaurant heâd picked is quiet and tucked away from the main streets, but they had some killer courses, so heâs hoping youâll like it. Heâs already sitting at a back booth when you arrive. You give him a quiet smile and step toward him, a small gift bag in your hand. Huh, thatâs odd, he thinks, scooting over so you can slip in beside him.Â
The two of you chat for a bit, going over your day and letting him softly retell a recent capture heâd done a few days before. He canât believe he hasnât had a chance to tell you yet. The time you two have spent apart has been long, too long, if heâs honest and he doesnât like that he let it drag on. Anyway, it was one of his first successful solo missions and heâs so pleased by the proud grin you gift him. He likes to make you smile and he would love to see another one, but something still seems to be bothering you.Â
âYou ok?â ShĆto asks, his eyes tracing over the contours of your face, looking for some kinda clue.
âSure,â you reply, but your voice still has that little hiccup, that shading of irritation.Â
âDo you not like the food? Or, did something else happen today? I know itâs been awhile since weâve had a chance to get some dinner together, or to talk much, but my schedule should change next month, so thatâll give us some extra time.â Heâs grasping at straws, at anything, but that arched brow of yours makes him prattle on, his uncertainty mounting.Â
âUm, are you worried about that team up? You mentioned it a few weeks ago, but I havenât had a chance to look into that agency. At least, not that way I want to. No? Er, Fuyumi said she might reach out to you again. She asked if you had anything planned. She didnât want to, um, give it away when we were talking. Whatever it is. I didnât know what she meant, but I figured the two of you-â
âYou really donât remember, huh?â
Your voice has dropped the edge and youâre shaking your head, lowering your chopsticks and fixing him with a pointed stare.
âRemember? Remember what?â ShĆto questions, tilting his head so the snowy side of his hair trails against his shoulder. Was there something youâd told him to do? He canât recall anything. Youâd said something about celebrating, a few days ago, before all the communication had broken down, but he wasnât sure if you were meaning celebrating something with him, or if there was an event at your agency. Youâd been there for a year. He knew theyâd gotten you a cake. What...
Youâre still looking at him and he ducks his head, fiddling with his food, trying to rack his overworked brain for some kinda clue. Ok. Itâs springtime. That means itâs not your birthday, not yet. Itâs not his birthday, that passed in January. So what...
His eyes land on that bag youâd carried in. Itâs a nice green color and the tissue paper is white and crisp. Does someone else have a birthday?Â
âOh my God,â you say, a laugh bursting from your lips. âShĆto, really? I mean, I guess I should be happy you just forgot. Honestly, I was thinking you didnât want to acknowledge it, or something. I know itâs just been a year, but it kinda hurt my feelings when you didnât even mention it. Youâd taken me to meet your siblings and then youâd mentioned me in that interview, so I was thinking that you were going to plan something for it. But I guess...God, ShĆto, has it really not clicked yet?â
You donât sound angry, a little disappointed maybe, but heâs glad heâs not upset you too badly. He needs to slow down and think. Itâs springtime and youâre here with him, talking about milestones in your relationship and you have a gift and...
Oh.
âItâs our anniversary. Well, it was. I missed it,â he says, ducking his head and clenching his fingers into his palms. Damn it, damn it, damn it. How could he forget that? All day, hell, all week, heâs been thinking about you, about how youâd met. How could he be so dense?
âAwe,â you smile, leaning toward him and giving him a peck on the cheek, âthere it is. God, youâre lucky I like you so much. I still canât believe it took you this--â
ShĆto doesnât let you finish that thought, lifting your lips up to his and kissing you until you canât breathe, trying to pour all of his apologies and embarrassment into the caress. He could have lost you, he thinks, sucking on your lower lip and slotting you against him, not caring who sees the two of you. Heâs never, ever going to make this mistake again. No, heâs going to engrave that date on every surface until all he can think about is you and him.Â
Notes: Heâs such a goober and I love how dense that boy is. Honestly, itâs not his fault, since he was kinda raised under an Endeavor shaped boulder and I adore his awkwardness. I could see him totally doing something like this, too.   Â

In Defense of TPN S2
Okay, so before yâall start throwing your salt shakers at me, let me explain. Yes, Iâm just as upset and annoyed with how the second season decided to cut out so much content that us manga readers were finally hoping to see: no Yuugo, Goldy Pond arc or GP Resistance, Lucas or Glory Bell escapees, Adam, poachers, or Cuvitidala Search. Since this season also (sort of) reached the 2047 time skip, we were also denied of the Paradise Hideout, Jin, Hayato, Ayshe, the Seven Walls & Imperial Capital Battle arcs and Alex due to the animeâs so-called âoriginal storyâ idea. While some manga events still took place (B06-32 getting blown up, the trioâs reunion, Normanâs time at Lambda, the cursed blood and the Grace Field raid), they were all significantly changed and barely held the same emotional impact, as we see very little to no build up to these moments. Several volumes were skipped completely and despite others being touched lightly, we unfortunately missed out on major character development for everyone, most notably for Emma, but also the lighter side of things such as chef Ray, medic Anna, Rossi learning morse code, Minerva!Norman, etc. Thereâs honestly so much of the main story to talk about and I totally understand why weâre all so ticked off, especially since that darn slideshow did absolutely nothing to calm our hearts at the end of ep11.
However.. Iâm not gonna stand by and say this season was worthless. Highly disappointing given everything I just mentioned of course, I get it, so donât curse me out just yet. People can trash talk it all they want and Iâll sympathize 110%, but I personally wonât do so. I love this series too much and thatâs a huge reason as to why I didnât drop this season. Usually whenever I start a new series, itâs because I become interested in a character or two. I find that no matter what happens in that series, whether the story intrigues me or not, Iâll continue it if only to see more of that character. If the story is good, itâs just another plus for me to stay addicted, so while this season totally missed their chance to adapt the wonderful source material of my favorite series, I stayed to watch Emma, Ray and all the other children Iâve grown to love over the past two years. Another reason why I stayed on this train wreck was because of how thought provoking it became as turned into yet another guessing game for me. After first watching the OP and even more after ep3 aired, I kept wondering what would they include or leave out. How would they handle this scene if this and that were already changed? How would they fix this problem if so and so isnât here? It felt like I was watching season one blind all over again; seeing all these little clues sprinkled everywhere and yet not having any idea on how the story was going to continue or end got me excited. Thatâs why I came to love this story in the first place, so having the chance to feel that again alongside characters I love so dearly.. it was fun for me (until the slideshow punched me in the face). While many people will look at this season and declare the manga and first season are both superior (which they are, I agree), Iâm still sitting over here like âoh look, more content!â
With all that nonsense out of the way, I thought I would go ahead and ramble about everything I believe the second season did well enough, because if I can take any heat off this adaptation then youâre damn right Iâm gonna try. So if youâre wondering why on earth a manga reader even mildly enjoyed this season, itâs honestly just the little things such as a decently adapted or improved panel/scene, any new, interesting elements the anime may have included, or other personal favorite moments of mine.. which there were a lot of.
So no negativity past here kiddos, weâre gonna be as optimistic and lively as an orange antenna.
(mild manga spoiler warning, I guess? but Iâm sure itâs nothing yâall havenât heard us readers mention/complain about already)
- If youâve read any of my reactions to this season, you would know how much love I have for âIdentity.â Not only is the song still an absolute banger, but the opening sequence itself is fantastic. From the contrast between human vs demon, the cameos, the symbolism, the match cuts, the build up to the chorus.. just everything. I could talk about it endlessly and watch it several times over and still be impressed.
- Laniâs stupid fall.
- How clearly it shows Emmaâs condition becoming progressively worse.
- Her scream.
- Rayâs apology, especially how soft his voice was when saying âsorry, Emma,â and the smile he gives after she tells him not to worry about it.
- And his entire promise to keep everyone in their family safe. Oh I was so happy to finally hear him say that.
- This exchange between Don and Gilda.
- Rossi and those darn faces he gives us. This boy is such a mood.
- How involved the younger kids were so they donât feel like they were just.. there, which served as a reminder that everyone from Grace Field is smart, not just Emma and Ray.
- How pretty the demon forest looked at night when all those odd creatures started glowing (even those darn goowee).
- So happy with how this panel was adapted. That smirk of his is everything.
- The fact they remembered a small detail such as the bell.
- Knowing now that they cut so much out of the manga, Iâm glad we at least got the hug.
- The ending sequence gave us a small look at Sonja and Mujikaâs travels by themselves. âMagicâ is also so very calming to listen to.
- How the children hug both Emma and Ray, as manga only had our girl receiving the hugs.
- Sonju & Mujikaâs voice actors fit them perfectly.
- How impressed Ray was when he first tried their cooking. No wonder he was so eager to learn how to cook.
- Sonjuâs story about the demon world from ch46-47 practically adapted word for word.
- While the manga also shows us how frighted the duo is upon learning theyâre living in the worst case scenario, itâs seeing them and their hands physically shake that help push this scene a little bit more (not that you can tell this by a still frame but trust me).
- Their synchronized smirks and how well their excitement was not only animated but how genuine and real it sounds too. Emmaâs laugh and the fact they made Ray of all people sound hopeful is fantastic.
- They kept the small Ray from this panel and made him better.
- I just love seeing him be optimistic.
- The entire scene when Emma & Ray are both scolded by the younger kids for acting so recklessly is perfect.
- They kept this tiny comment of Natâs.
- Finally getting chef Ray and hearing how confident he is with his cooking skills already.
- Seeing other children like Dominic pick up archery and be surprisingly good at it.
- Anime pushed Emmaâs quick learning ability further with archery by showing us how easily she could land a bullseye even after hitting something midair.
- How well they animated Emmaâs first kill, from following the arrow as she pulls it back to when she releases it as it flies towards the birdâs eye.
- The fact that this scene and the next both used a water droplet to symbolize death just like we saw during season one with Conny and Normanâs shipments are so satisfying.
- The gupna scene and how well it emphasized Emmaâs reaction to taking a life and how upset/bothered she was in doing so. The addition of a butterfly helps as well, as itâs another way this series tends to convey the idea of death. (you remember how many the OP had, right? tons.)
- I only just noticed that Ray is seen looking at a similar butterfly in the following scene as well.
- The anime doing this panel justice. Ep2 is probably the episode that follows the manga the closest and did real well in regards to that.
- Ray beating Sonju at chess.
- Chris knowing exactly which way to go without using the compass, which makes sense as he was seen mapping out the surrounding area in the previous episode.
- The kidâs adorable little freak out.-
- Giving us a better idea on how large the reference room of the B06-32 shelter truly is.
- Finally being able to hear our boy Nat play the piano. The fact that his first song is named âNat King Coolâ as a possible reference to Nat King Cole is also great.
- Rossi being an accurate representation of the manga readers while watching this episode.
- Chris being his cute self.
- Seeing Rayâs sleeping face after the manga denied us so many times by hiding it.
- Itâs.. close enough. We love our chef.
- I love the idea that Nat plays a couple songs before everyone goes to sleep. Thatâs so precious.
- SHE!! With her hair down!
- Rossi teasing Don and the fact that just mentioning Gilda is enough to scare him.
- It remembered that Gilda has a tendency to count all the children.
- The level of confidence Isabella has in her kids.
- Ray being oh so close to shooting a human with an arrow.
- This hug.
- Chris leading the group through the underground tunnels, which he also does in manga but we learn earlier in this ep itâs due to all the time heâs played down here.
- Because of his extensive knowledge of the shelterâs layout, Chris also guides everyone to one of the secret entrances to escape after he realizes the intruders are only stationed at the main two.
- Rayâs first demon kill is smooth as hell.
- Curse this scene for being so dark because that damn smile Isabella gives us is amazing.
- Since Andrew was cut, Chris and Dominic survive the aftermath of the shelterâs destruction without any injuries.
- Although we werenât expecting to see their older 2047 selves this soon, they look good okay?
- The emotion in her voice throughout this entire scene (probably the closest we were ever gonna get to Emma doubting herself in ch109/114 too).
- Please just let me enjoy this moment when Ray noticed her negative thoughts and stepped in to help just as I expected.
- Vylk and that goofy smile of his.
- Watching the duo communicate without words during the chase through the demon town.
- Our girl clearing this jump effortlessly.
- Normanâs squishy cheeks.
- Rayâs slap couldâve been better, I know, but at this point Iâm happy they still included it.
- The fact we can see Rayâs face during the reunion hug this time.
- And this hug.
- Remembering the small panel of Ray noticing Emmaâs bluff.
- Finally hearing this conversation because both voice actors do a wonderful job with it and thankfully the dialogue is on par with the manga as well. Also that one moment when the shadow falls across Emmaâs face like that.
- Gilda comforting Alicia after her nightmare.
- The scene is very dear to me so of course I appreciate every little panel we can get.
- How carefree Ray sounded with his âNopes.â
- How I only realized just now that this panel was also adapted.
- Okay so whoâs brilliant idea was it to have the sun rise towards the end of this conversation as Ray helps Emma regain her confidence? I just wanna personally thank them because it was a genius move and Iâll treasure it forever.
- They kept Barbaraâs slip-up.
- Like our demon friends, I think the Lambda crewâs voices fit them rather well, although Zazieâs was totally unexpected, like dude youâre 5, why is your voice so low?
- Another âit couldâve been better but at least they included itâ moment.
- Vincentâs smile here cracks me up and I donât know why.
- Barbaraâs anger.
- The short snippet we get of the ch126 conversation when the duo was visiting Chris.
- The table from Barbaraâs outrage was never magically fixed like it was in manga, so we get this nice shot of Norman reflected in the broken surface.
- The trioâs conversation about the royals and cursed blood follows manga relatively well.
- Anime did this panel better, Iâm sorry. Thank you for showing my girl getting angry.
- This frame of Ray.
- This comment of Normanâs that made me wanna slap him.
- How Normanâs face is constantly in the shadows during this scene, which is something his office at the Paradise hideout probably wouldnât have given us, so hurray for this location instead.
- How he and Emma bicker over how many days their deal should last.
- When the camera shifts in and out of focus during Barbaraâs seizure.
- How this scene hid Normanâs face until they revealed the demon the crew killed.
- It really is the small details that make me happy.
- This smile of Donâs.
- Iâll take all the hugs I can get.
- Emma and Gildaâs little headbutt.
- Why does my boy look so grown up and handsome here? Hello??
- I suppose I have to give credit for Peterâs voice actor too hm?
- Actually making Smee a bit more relevant.
- Since the fight against Legravalima was cut, this shot of Zazie is the closest weâre gonna get to seeing him without his paper bag, but it does improve on that one panel of him at the start of ch153.
- Seeing more of Normanâs time at Lambda as well as the aftermath of the explosion.
- While this scene pales in comparison to its manga counterpart, having the sun set behind him while Norman delivers his famous line was still a decent touch. Itâs a nice contrast to the sunrise in ep6 and I enjoy it very much.
- Wild demons managing to somehow successful jump scare me not once, not twice, but three times in a single episode.
- Emma getting back up to protect her family despite her injury. (i mean, itâs no ch93 comeback but oh well)
- Ray getting in another decent shot at a demon.
- This face of his.
- Seeing just how quickly the drug causes the demons to degenerate and all the chaos it causes.
- Actually showing Norman attacking a demon rather than just saying he killed Yverk off panel in ch153.
- Hate me all you want but the anime did this panel better too.
- The ch153 discussion is more or less the same but the fact they added in Norman looking to Ray for help and just having him snap back instead was priceless.
- Sonjuâs grin.
- The scene when Norman stops Zazieâs attack may only last like five seconds but itâs wonderfully animated and I find myself replaying it countless times.
- How to make the manga readers and anime-onlys panic with just one sentence:
- Isabella being clever as ever by leaking false info into the radio the escapees have to lure them back to Grace Field.
- I just think Emma looks so mature and pretty here?
- Had Norman actually apologize to the demons.. or was just about to anyways.
- Demon Emma is precious and must be protected.
- The adorable mixup between both Emmas.
- I havenât a clue on where or how the kids managed to gather all the supplies to create several hot air balloons and explosives.. but they did, somehow, and Iâm impressed because Iâm assuming that all happened within a day.
- Maâam, could you be any more smug?
- Simon! And he ends up surviving!
- Having Sonju fight alongside the Lambda crew.
- Which reminds me that this is possible since the Imperial Capital battle didnât happen (yet, in this timeline), so the three of them never received their injuries from Legravalima either.
- The smoke bombs, only because I remembered how Sonju used them back in ep1 while rescuing Ray so itâs nice to see them being used again.
- Showing Norman actually use a bow and arrow this time. He also hits his target on the first try through a smokescreen.
- Ray having enough strength to knock out two demons with a simple metal pipe. In ch169 heâs seen holding down a grown man so yeah, I can believe this as well.
- Having Jemima, Yvette, Rossi & Mark disguises themselves as shipments in order to rally up the other Grace Field kids. Markâs face and the noise he makes upon seeing Naila again is also precious.
- Peter actually falling for Vincentâs trap.
- Getting one young child to listen to you is hard enough, but Emma manages to get about 183 of them (yes I counted, give or take the four who also disguised themselves) to follow her orders in no time flat.
- Phil helping with the plan to lead all the children to the elevator.
- It made me nervous upon seeing it but they made the Day & Night ceiling real pretty.
- I knew the reunion was coming and still cried.
- Take all my hell yeahs.
- I could listen to her say this on repeat and be overjoyed every single time.
- Sheâs beauty, sheâs grace, sheâll point at gun in your face.
- Getting to witness someone shoot at Peter since no one did so in the manga? Wonderful. Having that person be Isabella who literally lands a perfect shot not even a full second after he pulls out that disc? Perfection.
- Mujika and Vylk bringing in hundreds of civilian demons as reinforcements.
- James!
- Those real quick shots of the ancestors because I had given up on thinking we wouldâve seen them at all since the Seven Walls arc was skipped.
- Iâm actually surprised they kept his death in and itâs as harsh as the manga.
- Ray confronting Isabella with the addition of this line.
- This panel being animated along with Emmaâs thoughts from ch177 towards Isabella even though that chapterâs major event didnât happen.
- I certainly can not forget about this hug.
- At least anime!Emma told the boys her plan before reaching the door, or didnât keep it a total secret? If not then Iâll praise the boys for accepting her crazy idea regardless.
- Boy, do you know how much I love you and your smirks?
- SHE. STAYS. ALIVE!!!
- Vincent and Normanâs little fist bump.
- Different but close enough. Still cute though.
- The amount of emotions this one shot makes me feel is limitless. Catch me crying tears of joy over it for the rest of my life.
- Having Phil not only getting the chance to see a train but to ride one as well.
- This pretty shot of Gilda.
- As well as this beautiful one with Emma and Mujika.
- They gave us older Phil. Not sure how much older but heâs still adorable.
- Lastly, the goddamn soundtrack! Of course we heard a bunch of the songs from season one, but the new ones such as âThe Evil-Blooded Girlâ and the Arabic version of âIsabellaâs Lullabyâ are absolutely fantastic. I still have to listen to full soundtrack but from what little bit I heard of such songs such as âNat King Ballade,â âCrisis,â âNormanâs Lament,â and âThe Temple Ruins,â Iâm sure every track is an absolute joy. Iâm so happy we had Obata back for this season.
And thatâs the end of it, I guess? Of course itâs not a perfect list, as the majority of it was just personal favorites of mine but oh well. (this is just as long as rayâs birthday post too, oh lord)
Iâm not gonna be one of those manga readers who continuously nag people to go read the original source material, because thatâs annoying and I understand that some people just might not be up for it. They might watch a series, take it all in and then move on to the next one. Others might want to find out about every little detail and invest more time into the story. Itâs totally fine to enjoy a series your own way and you shouldnât feel pressured to continue something youâre only mildly interested in or feel bad that you love something others might despise. Just do whatever makes you happy. If you wanna check out the manga and see why us readers love it to pieces, then I promise itâs worth it, especially if you enjoyed the anime or wish to see more of any character.. or the entire story. If the manga ainât for you, then I hope the anime did something for you. It definitely could have been better though, I canât argue with that.
Whether youâre anime-only or manga reader, can we all still hope for a remake? This season had more flaws than any amount of praise I could give, but if years down the line we get the FMA: Brotherhood or Hellsing: Ultimate treatment where the next anime adaptation follows the manga perfectly, you know Iâll be all for it. Iâm too deep in this TPN hole and Iâll probably never leave.
#the promised neverland#tpn anime#chidoroki used chatter#dont worry.. im still sad as hell about this adaptation.. this season just gave me a little excitement.. thats all#hey i re-watched this season so you wouldnt have to#..not like that says much considering ill probably go ahead and watch the dub too.. ah something is seriously wrong with me

How to be a Dad 101
Chapter Six - Modeling
Jasonette July Day Eight
Masterlist
When Jason was a kid, his family was too poor to take any sort of trip, which at the moment he was missing. He didnât have any concept of how normal people travelled, but it turned out that even if you were travelling to Paris in a private jet, doing so with your entire family was a downright nightmare.
âDoes everyone have all of their bags?â Bruce was calling above the din. âAnd passports? We need to act like a normal family, so you need to exchange your money for euros when we get there, we shouldnât just show up with them.â
âB, youâve already said that at least fifteen times,â Stephanie complained.
âWhy exactly is she coming on a family vacation?â Damian demanded. âSheâs not even dating Drake anymore.â
âFace it, Damian. Your family chose me, they were stuck with you.â
âFather, you need to choose between Brown and Drake. I cannot be expected to tolerate both for an extended period of time.â
âOh calm down, Little D. Itâll be fun!â Dick said, slinging an arm over his youngest brotherâs shoulder.
Jason sidled over to Cass and whispered, âHow many weapons did Bruce say we could bring?â
She looked at him with her unreadable dark eyes. âNone.â
âOkay, thatâs what he said, but how many are you bringing?â
Silently she held up seven fingers.
âDamn, I have eight. Do you think I can get away with that?â They looked at each other a moment. âYouâre right, B definitely has more than that.â
âIf you all donât get yourselves and your belongings on the plane within the next five minutes youâre finding your own way to Paris!â Selina called over the noise.
âMove it, suckers!â Babs yelled, running at least three peopleâs feet over with her wheelchair in her haste. Despite the pain she caused, once she got to the plane, she was able to expertly maneuver herself onto it, letting Dick struggle aboard with both of their luggage. Jason kept himself as far away from the eldest Wayne child as possible. Every time Dick looked at Jason, he could see the apology in his brotherâs eyes, which only served to piss him off all over again. Maybe he was being irrational, and maybe he was just on edge because they were heading to Paris, but Jason couldnât really find it in himself to care.
He slept fitfully on the flight, doing his best to ignore his family, be it Dick and Babs being the disgusting newlywed couple, or just Damian being⊠Damian. His dreams were strange and disjointed, filled with blue eyes and whispered French.
After dealing with customs and getting checked into their hotel (which was almost exclusively inhabited by their party, because of course it was), Jason had no desire to ever go on another family trip ever again. The thought of doing all of that without skipping lines and cutting corners they were able to thanks to Bruceâs money was almost painful. But then again, people with less money also didnât have to deal with Damian and Tim in the same space for an extended period of time.
Thanks to the nap heâd had on the plane and the fact that he was in Paris, Jason found he couldnât sleep. He found himself wandering the hotel, taking in the opulent surroundings. He thought he would only see hotel staff if he were to see anyone, but on his way to the hotelâs twenty-four hour gym, he stumbled across a blonde dressed vaguely like a bumblebee who was arguing with someone on the phone.
âListen, Dupain-Cheng, you are not taking advantage of these clients. No! Youâve been staying up at all hours of the night â donât you dare argue with me, youâre up right now, arenât you? And you have to take care of gremlins in the morning. No, she agreed to do it, itâs not exploiting them, itâs allowing them to pay you back for the giant favor youâre doing them! Fine, I will give her a discount, but this is not how you build a brand! Now go to sleep, the photoshoot is tomorrow. Donât give me that, we both know youâll finish things up with time to spare. Now go. To. Sleep.â
After a few moments the blonde hung up, and she seemed to be in a foul mood when she saw Jason. âAnd what do you want?â
âTo get to the gym? Youâre blocking the door.â
âAnd you were just eavesdropping. Your French isnât bad for an American,â she said, flouncing away with a hair flip. âBut your accent is horrible.â
âIt canât be as bad as your attitude,â he sneered under his breath before shoving into the exercise room.
Once inside, Jason ran himself to exhaustion, grateful when he collapsed into bed and fell asleep almost immediately. His dreamless sleep was fleeting, though, because it felt like only moments later that he was jolted awake by the sound of his phone ringing.
Glaring at the offending technology, he considered silencing it, but when he saw it was Selina, he thought better of that.
âYes?â
âYou have an hour to look awake and presentable. Meet up in the hotel lobby.â
She hung up as abruptly as she had called, leaving Jason blinking at his phone. He considered rolling over and going back to sleep, but heâd probably need the entire hour just to get his hair to Selinaâs standards.
Cass was already in the lobby when Jason was finally ready, and thankfully Dick was nowhere to be seen. Sidling up next to his sister, Jason asked, âDo you know what weâre doing?â His level of concern grew exponentially when she shook her head. Everyone knew Bruce was weak for Cass, so if Cass didnât know, that meant that the scheme was entirely Selinaâs.
Unsurprisingly, Grayson the peacock was the last person to make it to the group. Babs was too annoyed with him to even make some sort of innuendo, she just complained about how long it took for him to do his hair.
âSo whatâs the plan, Selina?â Stephanie asked, bouncing on the balls of her feet.
âYouâll find out when we get there. Follow me, we have a ways to walk,â Selina said, smiling wickedly.
The family obediently trudged after Selina, grouping up as they moved. Jason saw Dick make a beeline for him, but Babs caught his arm. âBabe, will you stick with Damian to make sure that he doesnât maim any Parisians?â
âSure, babe,â he said, deflating a bit.
As expected, only moments later Babs rolled up next to him. âListen here, you giant. If youâre going to make me catch up to you, the least you can do is push my wheelchair.â
âWhatever,â Jason said, doing as she asked.
âI hope you know youâre killing my husband, by the way. Heâs goingi crazy because he doesnât know what to do to apologize to you.â
âGood.â
âI know you donât mean that, Jason, and I know that because we both know Iâm the one youâre actually mad at.â
âAm I?â
âBringing up the French girl was a low blow. You told me about that in confidence, and I threw it in your face. Iâm sorry, Jason.â
âThat did piss me off, I just⊠Babs, why did you marry Dick?â
âIs that a trick question? Because I love him, stupid.â
âBut how did you know that you loved him that much? Because ever since I met my âFrench girl,â I canât even think about looking at someone else. Itâs insane because I knew her for like a day, but Iâve never⊠Iâve never felt like that with anyone before, but I didnât feel right trying to make anything more out of what we had because of how royally screwed up our lives are. How could I subject someone who is possibly a literal angel to our lives? Iâve never questioned my decision on that before, but lately I canât stop thinking about her, and now weâre here, in Paris where she lives.â
âWow.â Babs said. âI didnât know⊠Thatâs a lot, Jay.â
âThanks.â
âGive a girl some time to process, okay? Geez. I donât know if I believe in fate and that kind of crap, but this feels eerily like destiny. Maybe youâre meant to meet her here in Paris. If you do, then donât run away. Stick it out for at least as long as weâre here. You wouldnât be the first of us to have a relationship with a civilian.â
âBut what ifââ
âJason, bothering yourself about all of the âwhat ifsâ is only going to drive you crazy. We donât even know if youâre going to meet her here. Let things run their course.â
He sighed. âYouâre right, thanks Babs. And Iâll tell your husband that I forgive him, the sap.â
âThatâs all I ask.â
After a few blocks more, Selina abruptly stopped in front of a building. It was clearly some sort of business, but the doors only said, âMDCâ across them. âThis is it, kids. Come on in.â
Tim could be heard freaking out about something or other, but Jason found himself hoping that whatever was happening would be quick and painless. Inside, curiously enough, the same blonde from last night was waiting for them.
âYou must be the Wayne family, here for the photoshoot,â she said in flawless English. âMDC had some personal affairs to tend to, so she will be here shortly.â
âPhotoshoot?â Bruce asked, looking at Selina.
âThis is the shop of the designer who is making my dress,â Selina purred with a winning smile. âOrdinarily she wouldnât have been able to fit me, you and all the kids in with how little time we gave her, but sheâs releasing her first line of clothes to the general public, and her normal models are away. Itâs a fairly sizeable line, and she wanted diversity, so I volunteered our beautiful family.â
âWeâre going to be modeling?â Damian asked, disgusted.
âWeâre going to be modeling for MDC?!â Tim asked, nearly bouncing with excitement.
âDude, youâre a CEO. Have some shame,â Babs said, elbowing him.
âYouâre already booked and committed. Once MDC gets here sheâll decide who will be wearing what, and then weâll get started,â the blonde said. As if on cue, there was a crash in the back room, and the blonde sighed. âThat will be MDC now.â
Jason was only mildly curious what this designer might be like, but it seemed that things would be at least a bit entertaining. Even before she burst from the backroom, she was spewing frantic French to the blonde.
âChloe, Iâm so sorry Iâm late, Jules kept spilling things on himself on purpose, and then the babysitter was sick, so I had to find someone else, and then I missed the train and ââ
Emerging from the backroom was a beautiful pixie-like girl, a girl who had starred in almost every dream Jason had had since theyâd met. Jason was completely frozen at the sight of her.
Marinette. Marinette was MDC, the only designer Selina would think of wearing on her wedding day.
She stopped at seeing the mass of people in her store, but she immediately smiled sincerely, eyes flitting from person to person. In English she said, âYou must be the Wayne family, thank you so much for agreeing to model for me. It reallyââ she cut off mid-sentence, eyes wide. âJason? Is that really you?â

In case you havenât noticed, I havenât done yesterdayâs prompt yet. Itâs in the works, but my life is complete chaos, and it will just have to be late. Even though it was such a fun prompt, I have been having some severe writerâs block. Anyway, Iâm super excited for the next few chapters, itâs happening!Â
