Just as the title says I 100% this game yesterday!! ^^

Two of the post story courses were tough and so was the baby bowser boss fight before those, but these were nothing compared to the final Kamek boss fight. Holy hell. I was so mad trying to beat him. Especially in the go go yoshi part. Hell levels. I tell you. Took me like 4-5 hours to beat it both normally and with the added challenges, but I finally managed it @-@ So yayy!!!

Now with this complete, I'm going to play Princess Peach Showtime next!

Found a glitch while playing Princess Peach Showtime. The game registered that I did the spin but didn't play the animation, thus allowing me to keep the Theets for the second half of the performance minigame.

Btw it didn't reduce the number of Theets supposed to show up at the end (since you need to grab them for a sparkle), leading to twelve being there rather than eight.

Will put in another post the video of the minigame's second half with the Theets following Peach; I didn't expect it to happen so pressed the capture button early to save the animation glitch.

Might be showing my age a little bit here, but did any of you guys also play Super Princess Peach on the DS when you were kids? It was one of my favorite DS games when I was younger, and the impending release of Princess Peach Showtime has gotten me thinking about it again. I still have my cartridge for it, and I also still have the original case and instruction booklet that came with it.

Even after all these years it still works too! Can’t believe that this game is almost twenty years old!

What is this, another redraw? Yes, indeed. This time it's not a Nintendo Magazine cover though. It's Mermaid Peach from Princess Peach Showtime!

I've never played this game but I do like all these different costumes. My favorite is Ninja Peach because, well, I've always liked ninja things. The Mermaid Peach level looks pretty fun though, with all the singing and whatnot. And I just really like the way Peach looks in this original image:

Listen, guys. I'm asexual, so my understanding of "sexy" might be a little wonky, but... Dayum, as far as I'm concerned our Princess looks quite sexy here! I kept admiring her sexy back while drawing...

Ahem. So anyway, at first I couldn't decide whether I wanted to add the low poly fish, change them into ones more natural (or high poly I guess), or skip them altogether and add a couple more bubbles and sparkles instead. In the end I decided I liked the low poly fish too much, so I drew them this way. As you can see, I still added some more sparkles though.

As fun as these redraws have been and as much as I've learned doing them, I promise I'll post some original art next time!

Princess Peach's Character

So recently with Peach's portrayal in the movie and the announcement of Princess Peach Showtime a certain brand of individuals have had problems with her portrayal in this year 2023. While you have basic reactionary outrage content farmers in all this, some of which have probably never even picked up a controller in their life like a certain knight obsessed one. There is still a certain amount of people in the Mario fandom that have been taking issue with her recent portrayal, believing anything between "Nintendo is changing Peach" to "Nintendo has ruined Peach's character."

However, I am going to go against this notion and not only point out that her character hasn't been ruined but she has always meant to be this way.

To start off I would like to bring up the fact this not the first time Peach has been depicted this way, looking back to the non canon Super Show and Adventures Comics Peach is depicted very similar manner to what we see in this movie. It could be argued even more so in her comic depiction as she chases down Bowser herself without either of the Bros. She manages to escape the grasp of the Koopalings by outsmarting them and even goes back to rescue Mario in his failed attempt rescue her only finally being put out of commission through magic. This depiction her character has been considered by many fans to be one of her greatest portrayals.

Moving on to the games the Princess has joined in on Adventures as well such as Super Mario Bros. 2 USA yes it did happen, BS Super Mario USA, Super Mario RPG, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario 3D World, while non canon Mario+Rabbids, and Super Princess Peach keep a pin on that one.

However, some people may say they don't care about her being playable and say she is no longer "bubbly like she used to be," and that she is "too masculine" or stealing Daisy's character. This doesn't make sense, Peach and still is bubbly and does stereotypically feminine things and can still do what is considered stereotypically masculine things or act in such manner. In fact she is always a playable character in every sports game since the start, and we can't forget how sports is often seen as a masculine thing. Mario Strikers stands out the most having her depicted as sassy and competitive. Her Mario Party description has her described as brave which is also noteworthy, and we can't forget she is a Princess and by extension a leader. The few people demanding she and Daisy fit into boxes as characters only brings down both characters, and for certain ones I dare say it's misogynistic on how they want these 2 characters to only act in specific stereotypical ways. A character like Peach doesn't have just to act in what is considered a feminine way she can still act in a way that is considered masculine as well, and vice versa for Daisy.

Finally you have those people who just want her to only be the damsel in distress, and just no. Many of us fans were sick of her always being kidnapped in the 2D games, and have been wanting for so long for her to playable character in 2d game again and not just a Macguffin. So with Super Mario Bros. Wonder being announced, us fans especially us female gamers, are all glad that we can finally play as not just Peach but Daisy as well in a 2D game once again. Especially after Peachette, and the kinda stale formula of Princess gets kidnapped.

Now with the Princess Peach Showtime on it's way giving us another solo Peach game I would like to rewind the clock to share a little piece of Peach's character that not everyone knows about, which will serve as the nail in the coffin Peach not being changed/ruined. In 2005 with Super Princess Peach being the first solo Peach game by Nintendo, and it being the 20th Anniversary of Mario Miyamoto was interviewed by Nintendo Online Monthly. In this interview Miyamoto said the following about Princess Peach, "she has never seen herself as 'protected' by Mario. Our image of her is one of strength. Many of the developers came from homes where the Mother wears the boots, you know. (laughs) We hope to keep using Peach in different games in the future."

I happen to like the Figure Skater Peach most for... reasons...

But despite Peach's sweet personality I think Bowser has a thing for someone who could tie him into a pretzel so I'm gonna say Kungfu Peach

She just looks like she could happily decimate him and he'd say thank you.

Of course I think if a powerful woman was the case I think that he'd absolutely LOVE Super Radiant Peach... but in like... an untouchable angelic way. Like she's never been hotter but also just... for the first time ever truly out of his league (In his own mind)

Character introduction: Dimentio

~Basic info~

Name: Dimentio

Age: ?

Hair color: Dark purple

Dimentio is a jester who claims to be the master of dimensions. For some reason, even after his alleged death, he appears in Project: SFA.

His personality appears to be exactly the same of how he was back before his death, a skillful trickster and sadistic among others still with his very colorful way of speech, except now with a deep hatred towards Mario and co. He swears that he’ll get revenge, even if the Heroes of this world aren’t the same as the ones who ruined everything.

Appearance wise… he appeared to have derived from his previous look. He’s now appears to be tall and lanky with an unnatural light purple skin tone and pointy ears, along with dark purple hair. He has another mask besides the full faced one that seems to cover part of his face now, the bottom part of his face exposed. His body is disproportionate, with some newly added details on his outfit but still maintaining his iconic jester look. (Full masked version of main reference pictured below)

For some reason, fate seemed to have… other plans for him. Princess Sweetheart found him injured one night, the last thing he remembered was laughing as the heroes caused his game to be over… The young princess appeared to somehow healed him, taking the jester in. Now he’s among the castle walls in secret, waiting for his opportunity to strike… all while playing along with the little girl.

~Power and abilities~

Dimentio after regaining his magic abilities (he loses them for a bit) appears to maintain everything he could originally do, (duplication, teleportation, invisibility etc.) but seemingly enhanced. The jester has no clue how, but why question such a gift? He also appears to have gained a few new cards to play, one being the ability to brainwash without using a Floro Sprout and instead with masks he can summon with magic that look just like his own. He can also still go into Dimension D, a dimension personally designed by him, but it appears that his ability to cross between worlds… has a new surprise.

~Relationships~

Sweetheart: “What a peculiar predicament I find myself in. First my game isn’t actually over but then the DAUGHTER of Mario and the princess helping me?!! What luck I have struck!— Oh! I’m supposed to be talking about her, no? Hm… well, she’s simply too naive for her own good. Going as far to keeping my wishes of staying hidden in the castle… Why, Ma’Cherie really thinks that she’s doing something good by helping me! She even appears to view me as… her uncle now. Ah ha ha… I cannot make her stop calling me that. Have I known previously that she didn’t understand the other meaning of uncle, I would have never muttered the word… I will bear it, for now… no matter how much it pains me… the child seems to possess a power that I cannot ignore… according to her, they’re from that brooch she always wears… I guess a magician like myself could use a new assistant! She’ll be a perfect bunny hidden away in their master’s hat, ready for showtime! I’ll make sure she stays in my grasp… I have my ways to… keep the rabbit trapped in my cage.”

Mario: “The mustached hero… seeing him waltz around as happy as ever makes me sicker than a scallywag on the rough seas… what better way of getting revenge… then to slowly make his daughter drift away from him? Ah ha ha ha ha ha!! Such an opportunity I cannot resist, you must understand~ Before destroying everything for perfect new worlds, I should have some fun to… humor myself ♪ Oh, I cannot WAIT to see the light in his eyes finally vanish!…”

Peach: “The fair lady… I’m shocked to see that she even tied the knot with the hero… the princess appears to have a lot on her mind lately… Ma’Cherie mentioned something about preparations for coronation. It appears the dear princess will soon be queen! How DIVERTING!! Her plate must be filled to the brim like patrons at an all-you-can-eat buffet! Why… it almost makes me feel bad that her daughter will be in my clutches… almost. Ah ha ha ha ha… in the end, payback is best served ice cold.”

Luigi: “The man in green… how I do weirdly miss him. Being in the castle for a while has certainly let me observe him when he visits in a more… confidential matter. Perhaps… yes… perhaps I can bring back THAT side of him… that does bring a smile to my face~ aha… ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha~….”

Bowser: “… I haven’t seen much of flailing arms since I’ve been here. Ma’Cherie mentioned some morsels of information about being ‘busy with the kids’… besides that, he seems pretty much the same. Perhaps I should sneak out of the castle and look into the creature more… I mustn’t act too hastily, the risk of getting caught before the true show’s premiere is too great… the world is filled with prying eyes, like eager reporters at the scene of the crime!”

Flame & Aqua: “Ma’Cherie talks about her prince friends often, and why, I have never heard of such kingdoms or princes before. How extensive this world seems to be! Sadly, both of them are nincompoops in their own ways… from the orange one squawking like a baby bird desperate for food… to the blue one talking nineteen to the dozen about himself!! Even so, a jester such as myself must keep them on my radar…”

Larissa: “This… ‘Larissa’ character that Ma’Cherie sometimes plays with… she’s not from this world, I can JUST sense it. She’s VERY enthralling, that girl, to be able to wield a power that allows transformation with a press of a button… As a master of masks… this ‘Larissa’ girl and this ‘Jump’ hero… aha ha ha ha ha… oh, what a… repugnant proposal I have for them…”

Hi! I know it's a bit weird of me to put another thing in your periphery so soon after my last check-in. But I'm currently caught up in Princess Peach: Showtime! brainrot and I thought you'd like to hear it!

So in one of your earlier posts you came up with the idea of Yuu having a modern Alice in Wonderland-esque overblot with Grim as their phantom. But, having spent the better part of a week trying to hundred percent this game (why am I like this?) gave me another worm. And it goes something like this:

What if Grim isn't the only one gaining something from those blot crystals?

Because in the game, Peach changes "form" so to speak, after taking in a bunch of Sparkle. So who's to say Yuu isn't unknowingly absorbing runoff blot from those crystals? Then who's to say that Yuu doesn't have similar "forms" to the Overblot boys? Snapshots immortalized in ink and imbeded in a human who is slowly but surely losing it. And, going along with your idea of a Yuu overblot, what would it be like for the boys to have to effectively face themselves should that happen? Now it's not just Grim they have to face but a reflection of them at their lowest and the one victim who has been dragged to it every single time. The pain, the fear, the regret! Ah! I didn't know I could think of something so angsty! (And that's not even talking about Peach's last form and the Yuu equivalent!)

Anyway, make of that what you will. I just wanted to get that out there. Hope you're doing well and staying healthy! Looking forward to the next thing you make!

I really do love the way you format your asks dear friend, it is rather like receiving a letter. It is splendid to hear from you again so soon.

I had a brain rot myself a bit a while ago thinking about how it would be interesting for Yuu and Grim to channel the overblot forms similar to Eden's Promise: Eternity in FFXIV:

In my mind I was thinking how I would design a boss fight where Grim has three forms and Yuu has three forms, and then they merge to channel the Thorn Fairy since she's too powerful for just the one of them... but meh that's neither here nor there. The idea of Yuu with forms that reflect the various phantoms and physical attacks that reflect the overblot boys is so delicious, but realistically I think the concept you are describing where the boys are being forced to face themselves is the point of the various chapters we are going through in Book 7 right now. Grim and Yuu twisted into an overblotted abomination... you could argue that facing them would be the equivalent of what is happening with the ob boys right now in his book. It would be easy for him to blame the other dorm leaders and act like if they didn't overblot then he wouldn't be forced to hurt his first friend... but then that would be a disservice to you. He very much had his part to play, the largest one perhaps. In you now is a twisted reflection of everything he hated about himself: his power and his inability to save those he loved with it. You don't need any form other than your own to taunt him with that.

I do think you are onto something about the crystals not just affecting Grim. If we think about the relationship between Grim and Yuu, I think it makes the most sense to say that what Yuu gains from the blot crystals is their premonitions of overblot? Memories sealed in crystal are a fairly common trope... so if the memories of the respective phantom is trapped inside of that crystal then Yuu's visions could be the crystals calling out to them. I am less solid on the "why" but when I think about it this way, something about Grim and Yuu's connection allows Yuu to "hear" the crystals forming, which is why we don't get visions of every bad thing that happens (Rollo and Fellow for example) because there is no "Flower of Evil" about to bloom. Perhaps the Great 7's crystals "belong" to Grim/the Chimera in some way so that's why they are calling to Yuu? I need to think a bit more, but oh I am so glad you sent this ask. It gave me so much to think about...

I just finished Dark Souls for the first time, which was such a wonderful experience. I bought the entire trilogy and I'm excited to push forward into the next ones. BUT FIRST, it's time to play Princess Peach Showtime. I am extremely excited for the tonal dissonance of playing Dark Souls, Princess Peach Showtime, and then Dark Souls 2 in that order.

But also I feel like that pretty perfectly sums up my vibe as a person. If you could bring the cute outfits and the sparkles of Princess Peach into a ruined castle filled with dark souls monsters, that would just be my brain.

Tried the Princess Peach Showtime demo… not sure how I feel overall. (Note: at the time of this post, the full game has not been released, and I’m basing this solely on the demo.)

•I’m glad it’s at least slightly less lowkey sexist than Super Princess Peach (you know, where her powers come from her emotions because women are So Emotional and also they can both control their emotions perfectly and also use them for specific benefit 🙄) was, but it still feels lowkey sexist that Peach is still just… playing dress-up? Why can’t she be a real swordfighter instead of just putting on a performance? Mario, a plumber from Brooklyn, can slap on a lab coat and start flinging pills around, but Peach, a royal head of state, can just pretend to do things like (*checks notes*) make cookies.

•I know it’s just the first two levels, but it seems… easier than I tend to choose.

•I like that the swordfighter mode and the patisserie mode are significantly different from each other, but the fact that there appears to be at least ten roles you’ll perform means that I’m skeptical that the game will have much of a chance to really explore any of them. I’m open to being surprised about this, but… idk, we’ll see I guess

•Grape? I mean okay, I see the parallelism with Peach, but… Grape??

•Honestly I don’t like the “it’s all a play” framing device because it feels like they… abandon it instantly? Like. A stage can’t scroll. It’s a *stage.* You can have scene changes and set changes but you can’t just arbitrarily keep running to the right? Buuuut they don’t seem to care about that. Forget breaking the fourth wall, my girl’s breaking the second wall. Or first or third or whatever. She’s breaking some kind of wall.

•I will admit that I straight up love the visuals on Swordfighter Peach. She’s adorable.

•Maybe it’s just the fact that it only covers the first two levels, but the parts where you aren’t in costume (you’re just walking around using Sparkle to fix things) feel unnecessary and unsatisfying. Hope that’s a minimal part of the game tbh.

•In whatever Smash game comes after Ultimate, she’s very clearly going to pull her Final Smash from this game. But at least the level will probably be cute.

I’m probably going to buy it anyway, and I’m open to the possibility of it being very cute, but my first impression is that it won’t exactly be a masterpiece. Guess we’ll see!

I enjoyed playing Princess Peach: Showtime! but I wish they had slightly more plot. Like, do the mini stages for each 'show' lead to like actual different realms? Or is it still just a stage and the cast of Theets and Grape's minions are being super method about it? I was playing the first level and the bit about 'oh we need to move forward to this place' really got me cuz I was just constantly like 'but... but that's a cut-out? it doesn't exist until we change scenes and switch the backdrop? didn't you say that this was a theater stage?' Idk I just wish there was slightly more thought put into world building
