The kitchen was a delightful mess. Flour dusted the countertops, and the sweet aroma of vanilla filled the air as you and Billie worked side by side, both laughing at the organized chaos you’d created. She had flour on her cheek, just a tiny smudge, and you couldn’t resist a soft chuckle as you watched her squint at the recipe.

“Are you sure this says a cup of sugar? I feel like we’ve already put in half the bag,” Billie questioned, looking at you with mock suspicion.

You grinned, shaking your head. “You know, that’s the beauty of baking—it’s part art, part science. I say we go with our instincts.”

“Instincts, huh?” she replied, narrowing her eyes. “Alright, chef, I’ll trust you… but if we end up with rock-hard cookies, I’m blaming you.”

She shot you a teasing look, but before you could respond, she dipped her fingers into the bowl of flour and flicked some at you. A small puff of white dust landed on your shirt and cheek, catching you completely off guard.

“Oh, it’s like that?” you laughed, grabbing a pinch of flour yourself and dusting her shoulder in return. She gasped, putting on an exaggerated look of shock, and soon the two of you were in a full-on flour fight, both laughing uncontrollably.

Finally, after you both called a truce, Billie leaned back against the counter, cheeks flushed from laughter, eyes bright. “You’re a terrible influence, you know that?”

“Me?” you said, pretending to be offended. “You started it!”

She rolled her eyes playfully and handed you a spoon, already loaded with the cookie dough. “Fine, truce. Here, taste test it and tell me it was worth it.”

You took a bite, savoring the sweetness, and nodded. “Perfect. Just like you planned it,” you teased.

Billie smiled, a hint of a blush rising in her cheeks. “Yeah, well… maybe I had a little help.”

You and Billie burst into laughter.

The laughter faded entirely, and for a moment, it was just you and Billie standing there, the kitchen mess forgotten. You looked at her, and her eyes held a softness, a silent invitation that made your heart race. Slowly, you leaned down, brushing your lips against hers, testing the waters. Her lips were soft, warm, and she responded with a gentle pressure that sent a spark through you.

Billie’s hand slid up around your neck, her fingers tangling in your hair as she pulled you closer. Your arms wrapped around her waist instinctively, drawing her in until there was no space left between you. The kiss deepened, slow but with an intensity that made your heart pound faster with every second. Her breath was warm against your skin, and you could feel the way she melted into you, as if she’d been waiting for this as much as you had.

Her hands moved from your neck to your shoulders, fingers tracing gentle lines that left a trail of warmth. You pressed her closer, savoring the taste of her, the way her lips fit perfectly with yours, the way her fingers felt tangled in your hair. Every movement was unhurried, yet full of a quiet urgency, like you were both trying to make up for every second you’d waited for this moment.

Your lips parted, just slightly, and she followed, deepening the kiss even more. Time felt suspended; all you could feel was her, all you could hear was the sound of her breathing mixing with yours. Her hands slipped down to your chest, resting there as if to feel the beat of your heart, grounding you both in this intimate moment that felt as fragile as it was powerful.

Eventually, the two of you broke apart, just enough to look at each other, faces close, breaths mingling. She smiled softly, her eyes still holding that spark, and you couldn’t help but smile back, feeling closer to her than ever. The mess around you was forgotten, and in that quiet, shared gaze, it felt like there was nowhere else you’d rather be.

being a demigod is hard.

it's not just the supernatural stuff, like monsters, godly feuds, prophecies and unwelcome dreams. there's the fact that you're just different from many kids your age when you're outside camp — you have to deal with studying through your dyslexia, seeing stuff that no one else would believe was real if you'd told them, fighting off beasts that seem to sense you no matter where you were.

although, to be honest, being in camp wasn't any easier.

just being the daughter of persephone, a virgin goddess, set you aside from the other campers. it's too time-consuming to explain your origins, so you end up just distancing yourself from every one else.

nobody reached out, nobody bothered you. so you find solace in a hobby that kept you indoors. you stand in your cabin, hands on your hips as you glare at the pile of burned or shredded clothes on the floor. weeks ago you'd agreed to reuse them with the demeter and aphrodite cabins, perhaps remake new items like bags or hats, but the smell of the burned material was stinking up your whole room!

you decide that it's not suitable for human use, ever, not even any other living organism, so you threw it out into the overflowing camp trash bin, already full of broken arrows and bent swords.

looking around at your empty cabin, no boyfriend or siblings or friends resting inside, you take out the battered case from beneath your bed. not battered because of misuse, no. battered because of age.

your precious violin lies inside in velvet lining, like a corpse waiting for you to take it out to see sunlight once more. you take it gently in your hands, handling it like an infant before assuming a comfortable position and gliding the bow against the strings.

eventually you lose yourself in the melody and rhythm of your own, fingers moving on their own as you play a song you've memorized by heart. eyes closed, your ears take in the music as your lungs take in air, as if it were part of you now, necessary to keep living.

if flowers were not in your veins, you would've been certain that sunlight ran through it.

you go on playing for a time that felt so long but so short, and as you let the last note ring, a different sound grabs your attention.

"you never told me you played."

the smooth sound of your boyfriend's voice wraps around you, flesh hitting flesh in an action of praise. a slight blush in embarrassment of being caught spread out on your cheeks.

percy's clapping draws to a close. he walks forward to you and sits down by your side, grinning. "were you just escaping from playing for me?"

you roll your eyes, bumping him softly with your shoulder. "no, silly. i just wasn't sure i could play in front of an audience."

"why? you're amazing at it."

"i don't know." you shrug. "nerves. anxiety. that i might mess it up."

percy puts a comforting hand on your shoulder, rubbing circles into the cloth of your shirt. "well, i'm hoping i can be an exception. i'm a great hype man, you know."

that brings a smile to your lips. "yes, i know you are."

"you wanna grab something to eat?" he asks, offering a hand as he stands. you follow suit, interlacing your hands with his. "and then you can teach me how to play."

you smirk. "you sure you're up for violin, jackson?"

"as long as you're the teacher," he grins, pulling you out and close to him.

a fist hits his chest soon after. "great hype man but horrible flirt."

- At first, he completely flipped. All of your spider features sent gross shivers down their spine, making him reel back in discomfort and loudly exclaim disgust. Which, obviously, didn't exactly put you two at the best impression of one another at first

- MK was also pretty convinced right off the bat that you were working for Spider Queen, making them jump around and wave their staff at you like an anxious bee waiting to sting. You were eventually able to cut through his ramblings to better explain yourself, which at least calmed MK enough to not actively treat you like a threat

- He was still pretty obviously grossed out by your arachnid traits, though. It was a little funny to see him bolt away if you pretended to toss a web in his direction or watch the color leave their face when you gave them a sharp grin. But it was... lonely. Seeing this super happy and helpful hero avoid you so intensely, while funny at times, did also leave a lingering feeling of hurt

- MK picked up on this eventually. He realized how he was making you feel, and he ended up feeling stupid about it, and especially guilty. You'd not attacked him or any of his friends, he had no reason not to trust you. So he swallowed all his pride and reservations, and began making an effort to hang out more

- He was pretty surprised how quickly you two ended up becoming friends. Though he sometimes still got nervous or odd around you, with time he was able to have you tag along with ease. To even his own shock, he ended up minding your demonic features way, way less. You ended up quickly getting well acquainted with him, and soon you were a regular addition to his duo with Mei

- As you got to know one another further, he began to even see you as cool. Your extra traits proved helpful in battle, and as they got more comfortable with you, they started asking more and more questions about what it was like being a spider. You even helped him feel more comfortable in his spider transformation, which they were very thankful for

- When you two eventually started dating, MK had a much warmer approach to you. He complimented the parts of you they previously feared, determined to show you how much they'd changed and how they love everything that makes you who you are

- They love seeing you weave patterns into webs, and sometimes they'll draw a pattern for you to try to replicate. He tries to keep every single one and always feels so bad if the webs fall apart somehow

- Once they realized extra limbs mean extra hugs, he started wanting hugs all the time from you. It felt warm and reassuring, and the way they'd be completely wrapped up in your arms comforted them

- He always offers to travel around with you in his spider transformation to try and "level the playing field". He fully recognizes that he's much smaller than you in that form, but he thinks it's fun to travel on your shoulder

- You're a little surprised with the fact that MK didn't seem to care about you being a demon, and him being way more concerned about spiders. Once MK explained that basically all of his friends are demons, you joked that maybe he should start having more spider friends. He tried his best to hide it but you could see how he mentally feared the idea from the way he was sweating and trying way too hard to casually brush it off

- To try and make up for their earlier attitudes, they get super defensive of you if anyone tries to act weird around you or insult how you look. He makes it very obvious to others that he sees you differently now and doesn't want you being disrespected. He does tend to sort of jump to conclusions sometimes and get a little protective, but he means well

I made pokemon teams for em at one point, more for their human designs, and Gary did have a Darkrai in his team. It's my fav pokemon like ever, but it also kinda just happened. Both have little design parallels that work really well with each other [blue eyes, red thing around their neck, big black torso piece, etc.]

Then I was doing a little "haha them but pokemons" and Darkrai was just. Such an effortless choice. Like it's right there.

There's a colored version to be posted in a few days, I think. Plus, I'll probably draw him again eventually, so you'll be seeing more of him very soon.

His name is David Williams. Pre-War goth, met his wife Delilah at a Tool concert when they were both teenagers. When they found out they go to the same school, they got closer and eventually grew up from highschool sweethearts to happily married adults, and the two held a healthy open relationship, only closing it when Shaun was born. He would call Delilah his Sunflower, because of the way the sun would give her a golden glow.

He was rebellious since his teen years, and remained so well into fatherhood, not caring how others perceived his and Delilah's lifestyle or how he proudly shared eye shadow and black lipstick with his wife. He will also not hesitate to cross-dress.

He suffered head trauma during the Battle of Anchorage, and made him develop cannibalistic urges that he would succumb to only once Pre-War, when finding a fallen soldier. He tried secretly getting help for it, without Delilah knowing.

Post-War, he's the General of the Minutemen, known as Charmer in the Railroad. He resides at Spectacle Island with his lover and fellow widower, MacCready, and with Shaun after the destruction of the Institute, and making space for Duncan.

He succumbed back into his urges after he faced the man who shot his wife and took his baby. When Kellogg was lying half dead on the floor, barely breathing, he snapped. He's tried to get help from the occasional doctor afterwards, but to no avail, and now his diet mostly consists of raiders, ghouls, and super mutants.

He's kind of bitter not a whole lot of rock music seemed to survive the war, outside of a small collection of holotapes MacCready collected.

He blurs the line of Chaotic Neutral and Lawful Evil, maybe Neutral Evil. He doesn't stand for raiders, gunners, kidnappings, slavery. But he will shake you down for some extra caps, his temper's almost worse than his lover's, can and will pick your pockets as soon as you turn around, and don't you worry about that weird canned meat business he suddenly gets a cut of the profit and food of, and why he carries some bloodied sacks to there sometimes.

Sparkstember Day 25: Hippopotamus (What The Hell Is It This Time?)

My Hippopotamus rant is here. I love Hippo and I think this was one of the best examples of how putting something off for later can be a very good idea sometimes. So I didn't hear most of it until this summer, and hearing the whole album then was one of the biggest highlights of that time. Thank you modern era Sparks for always bringing us the awesomest music ever.
