I have to fight myself so hard to not be the world's biggest snob about oni lore, I think abt it and shake like a small dog as I remember that most ppl haven't read it all at least 5 times. Most ppl haven't even read it all once. Please please please please I know it looks like 90% is irrelevant to the main meat of the lore but actually a good 20% of that 90% is more important than that initial 10% and a good 40% of that remaining 70% is also vital to actually understand the lore and then that remaining 30% is also vital to the story and if you don't read it then I will crumble and die

My thoughts on MASM (Moon and Sun Minecraft)

So I watched basically the whole thing (skipped some gameplays) and honestly I had fun watching it. It sounds like the VAs are actually having fun and while there’s really no story they’re following I think that’s the best part. They’re kinda just going with whatever and you can still tell they’re just doing this for funsies I’m glad they are :) it’s fun to watch them goof around and such Oh and sorry but I am probably draw art abt it. I'm sorry but rahhh Moon and Sun's lovey dovey moments were so adorable. I guess this post is also answering what a lot of people have been asking me: Is your Sun and Moon brothers? No, they are not brothers. I was scared to answer this question publicly because of my short connection with the TSAMS fandom. I tried my best (and still am) to stay far away from that fandom. I'm sure most of you figured it out by now but for a long long time I grew uninterested with the way TSAMS has been running. Everything felt lazy and forced, like they were trying too hard keep the audience's attention while not progressing the story at all. With MASM, it feels different. Again, I've avoided it because I thought it was just TSAMS put into minecraft, but it turned out to be a little more different than I thought (by a little I mean they just reused some characters from TSAMS). What I think: There's no story they're trying to follow and they just love to goof around, and I absolutely love that. I enjoy watching people's videos when you can tell they are having fun with what they're doing.

Jealousy.

That ugly feeling clawed at your insides, consuming you whole, bringing out the worst in you and you knew it, yet you couldn't help it. Finding yourself powerless against its caging grip.

The venomous glare you threw at the two of them surely had to burn off Steve's back, but they remained rooted to their spot, talking about whatever the fuck, while Nancy lingered far too close to him for your liking.

Her curls danced in the dim light, swaying with each infectious giggle that escaped her lips at his jokes. The sight of her head thrown back in mirth only made your blood boil more with it.

You wondered what the fuck was so funny that he felt compelled to whisper to her, the sight of them so close to each other had your entire body feeling hot, an ugly feeling consuming you whole. The fragile porcelain filled with alcohol threatened to break under your harsh grip.

And of course, you couldn't help the way you act entirely unreasonable when he comes back to the booth.

Cold, a total raging bitch, your mouth feeling hot the more you snapped at him. And he knew, he knew the exact reason for your attitude. Yet, he couldn't help but find it adorable. How your lips downturn as you scoff at him, just because you're jealous.

You storm out to catch your breath and get some cold air, his footsteps fall into sync behind you, because he can see right through the facade you desperately clung to, see the way your doe eyes flash hurt, thick lashes hiding your disappointment behind the anger.

You lean against the brick wall of the bar, the chilly Hawkins air seeping through the fabric of your coat, almost enough to calm you down before you can hear Steve's hesitant footsteps as he closes the distance between you.

He's making you so pathetic.

The concern in his eyes mirrors the ache in your chest, gaze searching yours for answers you were reluctant to give.

"Is something wrong?" He asked, tone merely honey-glazed.

He didn't let you answer, instead following up with a, "Or are you just... jealous?" That stupid smirk lingers on his lips, making your insides gooey, while you wore that scowl as your mask.

"What?" You scoffed, playing dumb, as you crossed your arms against your chest, almost to protect your feelings.

"Oh my god, you so are," he teases, that damned smirk stretching his mouth into a full grin, reaching all the way to his eyes, causing them to crinkle, so pretty that you are melting all over.

"Shut up, Harrington," you murmur, heat spreading across your cheeks, gaze unable to avoid him. Pools of warm honey-toned brown eyes drawing you in so effortlessly.

"God, do you still not believe me?" He shakes his head with a slight huff, shoulders slumping in defeat.

You know exactly what he's talking about, with the way his brows quirk up, and he tugs at his silky hair in frustration.

Steve told you he liked you. A couple of days ago. But you just scoffed and huffed, rolling your eyes in his face.

You couldn't—more so—you just didn't want to believe it. You thought it was too good to be true.

Couldn't believe that he would want you when he used to be so hung up on Nancy. Blame it on your insecurities, or your attachment issues. Or blame it on the fact that you were scared. So fucking scared.

And you'd rather avoid all of it than have him break your heart. It's unreasonable, but to your idiotic brain, you're being logical.

"H—how do you expect me to when you end up doing shit like this?" Your tone is barely above a whisper, suddenly insecure like you're exposing yourself bare to him. You just need him to convince you. And he knows. He finally knows.

"Like what? Talking to Nancy?" He scoffs, like it's ridiculous. To him it is. That you even can believe the idea that he still thinks about her, when all that invades his mind is you.

"Like talking to your ex, the same ex you were hung up on," you reply back bitterly, words burning your tongue as they barely roll off your lips.

He leans in closer to you, almost to make a point. "Were, like you said." He spits in frustration, "past fucking tense. I moved on, so long ago. You know that."

"And she just said hi, as a friend. Nothing more," he enunciates it carefully and would explain that to you all goddamn night, if it meant it would wash your worries away, he meant every word he said to you. He didn't care about Nancy. It was you. And from now on, it was only going to be you.

You were desperate, so desperate to not show him your true feelings, but of course he could see right through you. "Maybe, maybe she did, but-"

He groans, not even caring that he's interrupting you. "There's no fucking buts, sweetheart, I told you, told you that I fucking liked you, that I wanted you, why do you insist on trying to push me away?"

You gulp when you notice how he has you caged against the textured walls, your back hitting the bricks with a soft thud, his breath flushing your already heated cheeks. "I don't—"

"What part of ‘I want you, and only you’ do you not understand?” His words are harsh, not in a rude way, only to get it through your thick skull. Show you how much you actually mean to him.

Rough hands end at your side, that annoying strand of hair falling to his thick lashes, making him look so pretty that you just want his hot mouth on yours. "There is no one else for me but you, and even you can't fucking change my mind, yeah?"

"I don't give a fuck about any other girl unless they're you." Words fall like silk from his lips, and they are heavenly to your ears, blinking quickly to process all of it.

And he enjoys it, sees the way your gaze glimmers, cheeks adorned with a sudden warmth as you give him those doe-eyes that make him want to crumble into you, fully.

You nod dumbfoundedly, almost to let him know that you finally believe him, and he gives you a soft chuckle, raising his brows "Are you going to let me take you out on that date?"

His caramel hues swirl hypnotizingly as they gaze into you, so alluring paired with the striking moles all over his cheek and neck, making you wanna kiss him all over. "Mhmm," you hardly mumble, too focused on taking all of him in.

He reaches up to touch your cheek, fingers brushing against your skin like feather, soft but making you flustered nonetheless, the faint scent of his woodsy perfume invading your senses. "Come on, use your words, honey," he coaxes, fingers leaving goosebumps in its wake as you can feel him all over.

"Y-yeah," you faintly mumble, not so confident in your voice when he looks at you all hungrily.

His mouth slightly curves into a bigger grin, leaning in as he whispers "Atta girl," almost making you whimper at his low tone.

You lean closer, urging his mouth to yours. He groans when you sweep your thumb over his jaw, knees giving out at the sound. Soft candy lips brush against yours, so agonizingly slow that the heat unfurls all over your body.

He takes your slight shock as a moment to slide his tongue inside, a sigh of relief escaping your velvety lips. He tastes like beer, and something sweet, kissing you with so much heat that you can't help the way you melt into him, his touch burning everywhere it makes contact with.

He brings you closer, as if that's even possible, bodies pressed against each other, your breasts flush against his hard chest, and you can almost feel his heart hammering inside, rhythm matching yours.

His cherry-pout mouth suckles at your bottom lip, slight stubble brushes against your chin, and fuck, you want him, so much so that you let out a low whine.

You want to continue. Desire runs through your body like wildfire, burning him with you, but once you hear the honks of the busy street, the realization of where the fuck the two of you are hits you, and only then you break the kiss.

Standing outside of a bar, kissing like two horny idiots, a pretty giggle escapes your lips when you meet his dreamy gaze again, his hues resembling mostly black now, both sets of pupils blown wide. Passion radiates from both of you.

"Was that enough to prove to you that I really, really, really like you, sweetheart?" He asks with a pretty grin, lips all puffy and smudged with your gloss, earning more hearty giggles and a nod from you.

"Or do you need to kiss me in front of her? Get all territorial?" He asks with a slight tilt of his head, brows raised all teasingly, that smirk returning like it ever left, making you huff.

You elbow him playfully before you fist his shirt, bringing him in much more close proximity, again. "Shut up and kiss me again, Harrington."

i like the headcanon he knows humans, knows some of their quirks, and how they were the first ppl the other hylian villagers called on to help stuck cows or downed wagons, lots of heavy lifting stuff

but he really hasnt seen the extent of real humans, bc the humans who were in Ordon, well, they lived in hylian society,

why would they need the adrenaline to lift a car when hylians have set up whole tools and systems in all their towns to help lift just a full bucket of water out of the well??

not to mention, i think all the humans in his village were older adults? like at least not the age theyd be doing things like parkour or going to any trampoline parks type of age,

You draw him so GOOD I go emotionally feral every time you draw a new Yuji thats how much I love him I was wondering if you have any tips when it comes to rendering his hair??? I've been drawing him for months now and I still struggle every single time I draw his hair and it's beginning to annoy me so much. I really really love the way you render his so I was sort of wondering how you go about doing it??? If thats not a bother of course. I can't stress this enough but I love your art and you've been a big artistic inspiration for me for the past few months!!! Hope you're doing well :)

hi anon!!! ik your question was about hair specifically but i got carried away and ended up with a timelapse of the whole render ..but i figured it's been a while so consider it a bonus! I'll go into a few specifics under the cut in case i get Also carried away rambling :'> it's a lot easier to Do than to explain but I hope u can still take something away from this <3

i'm on a painting kick so that means i mainly work by taking big swatches of colour blocks and then going in and refining them. u can see in the beginning of the video i start by just throwing down approximate colours and values according to where i want my light source to be before cleaning everything up. I use a combination of a hard angled chisel for flats, a chalky/textured oil brush to blur edges, and a textured tapered brush pen for detail.

rn the way i draw hair uses a lot of Big shapes that i try to separate into somewhat believable layered hairstyles by using small, high contrast shadows to give the illusion of depth. speaking of shadows, smth i play around with when it comes to yuuji specifically is shading his hair with colours that border on either brown or grey--depends on th piece ofc, there are times when i saturate this boy to hell and back, but i find using neutral shadows Grounds the pink a lot

honestly a good rule of thumb when rendering layers is light on top dark underneath fshdsdh a lot of the time hair rendering is just one big convoluted gradient. i break up the monotony with thin sharp lines around the edges where colours meet to imply individual strands, but lately i'm trying to cut back with how many strands i render in detail. i don't think this video is the best example of it (or maybe yuuji's hair in general doesn't lend itself well to what i'm trying to achieve), but ideally I'd like wider swaths of colour with fewer interrupting fine lines. megumi is a lot more forgiving w this i find

in a similar vein , i think in general it's rly hard working with hair like yuuji's which in official art is just . a nondescript spiky puff on top of an undercut... if u want to be more faithful to his design be my guest but i personally try to rectify his hairstyle by picking a few points of origin for the hair chunks in order to make the growth direction and volume make sense. since i draw yuuji's hair a lot longer than it is in canon, for reference i tend to look at a lot of women's undercut/pixie cut styles to get a better idea of how to layer everything. i like making his hair swoopy and fwippy rather than Spiky, if that makes sense

those r just some things i do, but honestly i wouldn't worry abt being terribly precious with it. hair is rly forgiving in that there are a million ways to make it look good , i think that the most important thing is being aware of your light source and adjusting your values accordingly. play around, see what works, have fun with it! and don't resist it if u find yourself being led in a completely different direction lmao ik i just went over my current process but i think i've brought up before how hair is often the most volatile of all the features i draw and i change up how i approach it A Lot .

hii! Thank you for the ask! btw yes i have seen your other asks and i am working on them! just verrryyy slowly(most of them are more than halfway finished but i am missing little tidbits of info)

let me just get this out of the way: her upbringing.

Vivienne very obviously adored Eva and Justin and considered them family. we don’t have a whole lot of her speaking abt them, but in the lost sisters Vivienne says that Eva was once speaking w her, in the bathtub, and Eva had pretty much told her to be kind. To be kind just because she should:

it makes me think a lot abt Eva and what she thought of the fae, and also madoc, but from vivis pov, she wasn’t too pleased w this as a child, and she “thinking it unfair, began drowning boats under the suds again���(not word for word)

i just thought it was worth mentioning. Vivi doesn’t seem to take her mother’s advice, but perhaps she COULD act worse. she COULD act like a monster, yet holds herself back from doing so? Vivi is half human, but faerie blood breeds true.

anyway, Jude only had good memories of her parents, they seemed to be very good to them all, Justin, who never raised a hand to discipline them, and Eva, who “threw her head back when she laughed” and stuff. I don’t recall any negatives of their parenting. Of course minus hiding the world of faeries and that danger from them, but can you fault them for that? Not really.

Anyway, vivienne had more memories as she was around 2 or 3 years older? She was 9 when madoc took her to elfhame.

The point is, she holds more fondness for the mortal world since she was there longer, and also acts like she has more fondness for their parents bc she is elder and has more memories of them.

i think she also holds more fondness for the mortal world bc she doesn’t want to face the reality that her father is a horrible murderer.

It’s unfortunate that we don’t see if she ever KNEW that she was fae before madoc came around, which would’ve been interesting, and if she didn’t, maybe she copes w being “a monster” by staying in the mortal world.

Her character is devastating.

She doesn’t seem to fault Eva for “stealing” her, or Justin for anything. She places all the blame on madoc(understandable, i only mention this bc jude doesn’t seem to do the same, partly so it’s easier for her to come to love madoc) and as the girls come to care for him, she seems to begins to try to convince them otherwise thru hurting them and raging.

random knowledge dump abt vivi below before the actual analysis:

1. vivienne is described a lot of ways, by Jude and Taryn, selfish but in a fun way, and moody when things don’t go her way. her behavior seems very up and down, could be from trauma, could be from her fae nature.

2. Vivi stays in elfhame for Jude and Taryn, and when Jude and Taryn are no longer at home, she leaves for the mortal world. which is bittersweet that she stayed for them and only them.

3. Vivienne faults orianna abt treating Jude and Taryn in a sort of discriminatory faerie way, but she also sorta does the same, through her actions.

Anyway sorry for the ramble, here’s the actual analysis:

I’m splitting this into parts, w her relations, like w heather. Vivi and heather, now i love them. Especially in the 1st book, a fae x human couple that meets up at the mall and at art school is soso cute!

but like every fae x human relationship, or any relationship at all, there’s bound to be problems.

Most of these problems stem from vivis personality and nature itself.

Before i get into it, i wanna quickly add that we see vivi thru Jude’s pov, so there already some bias, there. Also this is just my perceived opinion!

Vivi, throughout the whole series, is a very interesting character. honestly i often think that she’s pretty unfeeling toward humans.

she faults Taryn and Jude for loving madoc, for succumbing to the magical aspects of elfhame and the fae. which makes sense, she is fae herself, she has few reasons to have any sort of attachment to elfhame or the fae.

but it’s to be noted that vivi has the capacity to be quite cruel, slapping and pinching Taryn and Jude for loving madoc and the beauty of the high court.

(now you could say that cruelty was stemmed out of love, out of her want for her sisters to be safe, but vivis other actions are also pretty cruel, in the sense that she may not mean for it to be awful, but it is. she’s fae, so it’s harder to analyze her true feelings)

but what we see of Vivis personality, is that she is very selfish. Jude says that vivi acts like what has happened to their parents is her tragedy and hers alone. she also says that vivi is selfish in a way that can be fun, she eggs ppl on to have fun w her. (eva Duarte vibes)

i can understand how vivi may feel about the girls in elfhame, perhaps she blames herself for what happened to Justin and Eva, since of course, madoc came for vivi to bring to her elfhame. and then she perhaps further faults herself for not being able to persuade them to leave elfhame w her.

one of viviennes main problems however, is that she simply does not try to understand. she does not try to understand humans and their feelings, her sisters and their dreams, or why Jude and Taryn feel the way they do for madoc and for elfhame. She doesn’t understand that elfhame is their home.

Taryn says this in her internal monologue in the lost sisters:

now I’ve got mixed opinions on this. Of course she doesn’t want Jude and Taryn to stay somewhere that is vehemently unsafe for them, that harbors their murderous father and every other horrible thing for humans. but she almost acts like them staying and facing hardship is what they signed up for. she doesn’t seem to understand that they have little to no choice.

they’re human and she is not. they cannot glamour, and they are mortal. Leaving elfhame means eventual death. Jude doesn’t seem to fear it, but Taryn’s actions make it almost seem like she does. not just wanting to belong- they want to live long. who doesn’t want to live an immortal life in a magical world?

and not just that of course, it’s that Jude and Taryn, (mostly Jude since she states it in her pov) is that they don’t feel like they belong in the mortal world anymore.

now she is fae, but we have seen faeries with the emotional capacity to act without selfishness, to love wholeheartedly (obviously she loves her sisters)

i think vivi is painfully comparable to Locke. Don’t hate me for that take but I’ll explain how they have similar qualities, especially when it comes to treating humans. Humans they are supposed to care abt

the same way that Locke did not try to love the way a human loves, to only explain to Taryn not to expect a faeries love to be like a humans, effectively dismissing his neglect toward her, is pretty similar to how vivienne did not bother to not only tell heather at a suitable time abt faeries and that she is one, that she comes from a world where humans are hated, but also to completely dismiss heathers feelings and drag her to elfhame anyway.

And despite the abuse she has witnessed Jude and Taryn endure, she doesn’t even bother properly telling heather how to be safe in elfhame.

vivi acts very often when it benefits her, trying to drag her sisters to the mortal world, not telling heather abt what she is, etc. she wants and expects things to go her way.

She also pretty often dismisses her sisters dreams. Jude’s knighthood, taryns “throwing herself on some faerie boy”, Jude’s being queen, and oaks future.

She thinks of herself. she swims with Locke and cardan and nicasia and valerian, fully aware of the abuse jude and Taryn endure with them, because they’re friends.

maybe you can chalk it up to viviennes being immortal, so she sees Taryns and Jude’s inconveniences as not worth her time.

but as the one person who should be protecting her sisters, she sure seems to piss off and do whatever else is convenient for her.

add on: Her being friends w their abusers was always so strange to me. it sorta feels like a “told u so!” to Jude and Taryn. she WANTS Jude and Taryn to come live in the mortal world, so maybe she just doesn’t try to help in elfhame for that reason. like she goes out of her way to be a pain (by befriending their abusers) so they get fed up and LEAVE.

another edit bc idk where to fit this: vivi was also friends w rhyia, who, in Jude’s opinion, shared vivis content to throw away customs and sorta act unlike her status and title. free! anyway that leads me to how Jude also said that vivi also liked bringing shame to madocs name and would be proud of her if Jude did something to bring shame to their house (encouraging bad behavior is very funny of her)

i also want to add that vivienne knew that Taryn was sending messages to Locke. before Jude started seeing him. this is stated in the lost sisters. but when vivi is asked if she knows who Taryns secret man is, she doesn’t know. so either she’s dumb or she REALLY doesn’t pay any care or attention to her sisters at all.

now she is a redcap, we are reminded of this not only when she admits that she’s been waiting for the day to kill madoc and shoots him, but also when Jude punches that mortal boy, milo, who was hitting on her. Vivienne starts giggling and glamouring.

redcaps, such as madoc, are often described as sorta air headed (in other holly black books) much more focused on bloodlust or whatever conveniences them.

and that’s another thing. The glamour. She seems mostly fine with glamouring her sisters, and also heather. which probably means that she does it pretty frequently in the mortal world as well(aside from just glamouring herself to look human and glamouring leaves). take that info as you will, but i always thought of glamouring as pretty screwed up, though it is completely unsurprising that she would do it in the mortal world and it’s not something to hold against her. it’s just how she survives.

Similarly to how Jude struggles to survive in elfhame, even if that means becoming a spy and whatnot. Just survival yk

though she does admit to Jude that she never glamoured heather before the night of taryns wedding, which is good. bare minimum tho, esp compared to how cardan didn’t dare glamour Jude, and asked for her permission once tasked w doing so.

also if i remember correctly vivienne was pretty dismissive about glamouring heather when Jude confronted her.

now on a more positive note: vivi helps Jude when Jude asks, which was bittersweet (sisterly bonding time searching for a dead body!) and i loved that. i love that despite it all VIVI is always there for her when she asks. Even if she can be sorta cruel sometimes, she’s atleast there for Jude and Taryn.

After the coronation, vivienne said that she would’ve murdered madoc if his plan had gitten Jude hurt. I love her devotion to her sisters. And her willingness to off madoc at any given moment, especially for them. AND that she never gives up on them. She is always asking them to go to the mortal world w her. Stubborn! (I also like when she calls balekin an asshole!)

Vivi lets her live w her in the mortal world, she takes oak in, she helps Jude and Taryn randomly, etc.

now oak. poor vivi, being trusted w raising a whole faerie child and protecting him bc he’s a little prince! very similar to how madoc had little kiddies thrust upon him! Except this was not vivis fault, and she had no choice.

i think her and oaks relationship was cute, how they are still family despite not being directly related, how she raises him in a very big sisterly way! i think her raising oak also helped a lot w her character development. though we don’t see it, id like to think that she learned things from oak, how to be a better sister mostly.

though naturally she threatened to leave oak at school or ditch him (LOL she’s a very accurately written big sister imo) she didn’t, and cared for him, maybe in an offhand way, and maybe she dismissed his dreams, but that’s just how she is lol. Long lasting sibling tradition to dismiss their life’s work ig!

in qon, which im rereading rn so i apologize if i mistake something, heather and vivi are broken up(deserved) and heather asks vivi to wipe her memory of it all.

now vivi, again, doesn’t even TRY to understand. lol. i wonder a lot at the parallels between Eva and madoc relationship, to heather and vivis.

If they are even a little similar, then OF COURSE Eva left madoc, minus every other reason to leave him lol.

anyway, before her memory is wiped, heather is in elfhame, cardans a snake, and heather is an angel as always. she comforts Jude and tells stories to find some sort of solution to cardans curse. eventually, they’re off to patch things up. memory wipe and other romantic endeavors!

I’d like to add, that i think that vivi has the capacity to change, i think she did, while we only got glimpses of their relationship in tsh and tpt, the heather and vivi crumbs seemed so very sweet.

(Edit after reading “faeries never lie” i think vivienne HAS changed by the end, understands heather and where she is coming from, and truly does love her, and was willing to give away years of her lifespan for heather)

and i really adore the thought that she changed her previous foul behaviors for heather. that’s sweet. it’s HUMAN. Vivienne loved like a faerie, i assume like madoc, until she unlearned it, for heather, because she knew that heather deserved better and that their relationship was suffering bc of it.

i highly recommend faeries never lie, as it is adorable, and i loved it. Heather is a really cool character and I’m glad we got her pov on their relationship!

i won’t spoil too much, but what vivi puts heather thru, (GRANTED, heather DID ask for her memory to be wiped, but only bc of the trauma she endured in elfhame) was so sad to read. but their ending bro. IT WAS SO CUTE.

and I’m glad Heather sorta proved herself and proved vivi that she could be cunning, that she can handle the fae even despite her fear of them.

I’m glad to see that their relationship patched up nicely. even if it took vivi a second try to fix things, vivi def deserves a happy life after what’s she’s endured.

anyway, i think Jude’s and heathers relationship is pretty sweet. and vivi acting the way she does, helps the plot move along, and also helps with Jude’s character development. it really outlines that Jude truly is isolated.

moral of the story, i do like vivienne even if more than half of this was negatives (sorry) she could’ve been a better sister considering it all, but it makes sense to me why she wasn’t. She endured A LOT.

I've been reading CRCB again, I've been reading a few chapters each night before I sleep (Like how I used to stay up until like midnight for me for every new chapter release hehe) oh my god I forgot how good it was... you're writing never fails to impress me!! I just adore everything about it... when I finish rereading it I may have to go back to the Kyletober fics, those were just *chefs kiss* to die for. Tumblr has converted me into a big Kyle lover.

And since i FINALLY bought the games, I've played MW now, in the middle of playing MW2 and oh my god, great games (fuck graves I liked him for a bit... not anymore) BUT THEY ARE HARD? the older games were easier istg. But getting to finally play the storylines that I've read so much about feels awesome. I'm now a big AleRudy fan heh.

Also... I wanted to ask first before yapping I have a fic idea and wanted to yap abt it lol- would that be okay?! Rambling abt Rumble Fish

i cant explain to you guys how much fun i had reading rumble fish considering we have initial insight years after the events of the book happened from rusty-james so we get things like 'you look a lot like him,' and 'i dont remember much.' and we get to read firsthand contradictions and how slowly those things become more and more true considering everything rusty-james says constantly contradicts what happens in the first chapter and its just !!!

One of the first things i personally noticed was how nearing the end of chapter one, Rusty says he doesnt remember much but then from chapter two to chapter eight(?) its brought up a lot how he thinks he remembers too much and thats slowly deteriorates as the book goes on :3!!! then theres the whole wanting to be like the motorcycle boy, thinking he'll look like him and everyone saying he wont ALSO become true by the end of the book that just makes me so!!!!!

Also as the book goes on, things start to have more gaps. Theres more time jumps and larger gaps and then the vague fourth wall breaks like when Rusty said he thinks his memory issues started after he & steve got jumped & saying things like 'that was the last time i saw/went/etc.' And ofc, its not directly addressing the reader but it also breaks the sort of flashback that the whole story is and makes the reader aware that the story is being told in a flashback/memory instead of firsthand telling of an event going on.

Going back to all of the contradictions, god do i adore them!! Rusty-James saying he doesnt look much like the motorcycle boy in the first chapter and then almost every chapter after that saying he thinks he'll look like him? PEAK. Saying he's never been scared of the motorcycle boy then only a couple chapters later hes scared of him and it never goes back? PEAK. Dear lord you guys have no idea how entertaining it made annotating it!!

Also going back to the run of the story and how it slowly gets more confusing is something I also absolutely adore about this book! Yeah, it gets confusing nearing the end and yeah, it gets hard to follow and things get unclear and actions aren't elaborated on, but the fact we know WHY that is, is so !!! I just love it!! Like yk, as more things happen the more fuzzy it becomes to Rusty and the more real ot feels its just!!!

The ending/ending gets a mini analysis too because it hit me REALLY hard. I think it was expected that Rusty-James was gonna end up like the motorcycle boy considering we already knew he would end up looking like him, but god, the fact after the motorcycle boy died and in Rusty-James' perspective, everything snapped for him is just so unexplainably painful??? How he KNEW something was wrong and how he seemed all too aware of how everything just popped into gray unexplainably and the way he 'becomes' partly deaf for seemingly no reason. I genuinely had to put down the book for a second i dont think you guys understand how much the ending HUURTTT. Just the way that in Rusty-James' perspective, everything just snapped 'into place' at that point after he lost his brother is just so...

Then at that exact moment he lost the guy he strived so hard to be like, he ended up JUST like and maybe at that moment he realized he mayve not wanted to be like him just hits so hard eurhfdhbfb you guys dont understand..

Dont even get me STARTED on the first and last chapters and how much it reveals in such little dialogue from just a couple years into the future. Rusty-James losing taste for beer also just contributing to how hes so much like the motorcycle boy?? Godddd this book fucked me up so badly!! Steve making him remember so much and Rusty holding such a resentment to him because of it is also so!! I think actually looking into the details makes it so much more interesting and i could talk for so much longer about it!!!

The hate is so unwarranted what are you guys even on!!! Look into the book!! pay attention to the details!! it makes it so much more interesting and leas confusing!! maybe im just easy to please but seeing rusty become more like the motorcycle boy first hand made me so unexplainably interested and dare i say happy to see all the parallels forming !!!!

Also the pet store scene broke me. Rusty was so frantic and i feel like he knew something bad was gonna happen and then him crying for the first time in god knows how long for seemingly no reason just HURTS!!

OMG MARIA ??? she was well cast, I loved how she was a little skating gremlin, who showed shadow all these things (things I predicted somehow AGAIN ? while writing the sli au). shame we didn't get more of her, but we all know what happens, so I guess it's only reasonable. only gripe is I wished they bothered to address her illness bc there was none of that

SHADOW ???? there was a scene with maria that struck me deep. his origin story change is funky, but definitely not unwelcome. and the way he notices the researchers look at him weird and he feels like a freak who doesn't belong ? ofc that's concordant with canon, but fuck me man. that's always been something I've connected with in shadow's character, so to see it crop up actually made me emotional

I nearly CRIED watching this film guys. I can't even be mad that amy wasn't there to rouse shadow onto humanity's side, bc the way they handled shadow's inner turmoil and his epiphany of light- UGH PLEASE I CAN'T BE OKAY EVER AGAIN. it was stunning. to see him struggle with his convictions all throughout and pose those deep questions to the other characters like gerald, asking if revenge was really what maria wanted. or stone. or with sonic, when he was driven by anger and grief. I LOVE that shadow noticed their similarities and asked those questions why, not because he was goading sonic, because he genuinely wanted answers, most likely to understand what he himself was feeling. I adored their chat on the moon, dealing with a sensitive topic, man to man. that was so sweet and they both convinced EACH OTHER to do the right thing. that was beautiful. I teared up. also super shadow was just so pretty I tried not to squeal. beautiful boy. he was just so genuine the whole time and nothing, not once, charged him as 'bad'. he was hurt and misguided but he knew he was doing wrong when he stepped back. he really came to his own realisation and I couldn't be prouder

gerald man ??? it's still not clear to me how he lived past his expectancy, but whatever. I'm actually okay they went fully down the dark route with him, using manipulation tactics aplenty and just being generally insane. for that, I can understand and accept eggman's family issues done in this way in this continuity

also STONE ???? I LOVED HIM I AM SO SAD WE DIDN'T GET MORE OF HIM. he tripled down on the homoerotic sycophantic pining. it was brilliant. the stobotnik moments were a joy. every single one

there were a few jokes that made me grizzle and groan, but other than that, it was still a light and funny movie despite dealing with more sincere topics of loss, family and potentials

tails was so adorable I loved him and everything he did. knuckles too. my favourite moment was trying to talk down sonic and almost hitting him from rage but letting go to concede to sonic's poor decision to walk the wrong path

shadow's death was glossed and inconsequential but that makes sense. it was gorgeous seeing him draw maria parallels throughout everything

my favourite little giggle from him was when he was watching that telenovela or sumn and he said the woman should get rid of both men bc she doesn't deserve to be treated like a prize. MY BOY <3

AUGH CAN I TALK ABT AMY OH MY GOSH ???? finally. it only took 3 films. she looks gorgeous. love her assassin hood thing, her badassery- Perfect. I can't wait for her to take the limelight next. metal also looks banging too, I noticed the split second frame that looked like the forces trailer

speaking of amy, the audience in the theater (including me), clapped SO LOUD when the amy scene was over. sighh my people <33 I will miss them. especially the one that said shadow 05 movie shld happen after seeing the second post-credits scene. they're after my heart lmao

OHH the references. so many to mention. even if some were obnoxiously obvious, they all were awesome. the musical ones, the cinematic frames, the direct quotations, objects and whatnot. all of them were bloody fantastic

THERE'S SM ABT THIS MOVIE MY BRAIN CAN'T EVEN. I'm still trying to digest all that I saw tbh, so I've probably missed things I wanted to blab abt but oh well

it surpassed my expectations. we've been fed so good this year. amazingly done film, would 100% go and see it again if I get the chance

AS PROMISED: MY THOUGHTS ON F&C SO FAR!! just a big ramble basically. I'll do 1 & 2 for this post and then 3 & 4 in another (ofc, spoilers ahead if u haven't seen it yet!!!)

Ep 1. (Fionna Campbell)

I LOVED this episode. it feels like a perfect introduction to fionna's world and the characters in it!! all the nerdy little references to the original show made me SO happy I absolutely loved those …

of course seeing marshall lee again made me absolutely jump for joy MY HUSBAND IS BACK!!! AND BETTER THAN EVER!!! his human design is perfect idc what anyone says he looks stunning. I also love that LSP's human name is ELLIS P. it's so creative and so not at the same time LMAO

it also took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that one character is supposed to be a genderbend huntress wizard. uh.

I also love how they're already sorta setting up gumlee by having marshall really like gary's cookies. that is the cutest thing ever I CAN NOT wait to see them develop more UUGHHH. I also just love gary with all my heart even if I kinda wish he had a better name

not to mention the opening song was so cute. it's so upbeat but so … depressing. 

I don't have a whole ton to say abt this episode but honestly?? I give it a 10/10 I adored it

Ep 2. (Simon Petrikov)

my poor babygirl. god I love simon… I feel so bad for my little guy… my man is basically an alcoholic (see ep 4)... he just misses Betty so much and I WANT TO GIVE HIM A HUG AAAUUGH!!!! 

I love him & finn's dynamic!! sensing a little repressed grief/trauma from finn though. like… just go on adventures all the time so you don't think about bad stuff? ouch my guy… ouch… EVERYONE IS SO DEPRESSED IN THIS EPISODE 

tbh… I was genuinely more surprised to see blood than I was to hear the characters swear. but let's be honest it's about time adventure time showed some serious gore & guts like THIS IS A SHOW PARTLY ABT FIGHTING MONSTERS. I think it suits the show, same with the mild swearing tbh, I was REALLY worried it would ruin it but it flows really naturally 

I can already see why Tom Kenny said this show was the most emotional thing he'd ever acted for… I can't imagine how the rest is gonna be (i can't wait)

I give the ep an 8.5/10 i think!! the first is my fav but this one is really really awesome too

happy birthday yuka! (hope she and esora enjoy the view!)

(rambling under the cut because the tags cannot contain my love for them--)

the flowers are there for a reason not just bc roses mean romance and yuka is compared to a sunflower. those roses are rosebuds and they mean pure and lovely (w red ones) while the sunflowers are dwarf sunflowers and they mean adoration and love. i chose those because the roses are like how their love is pure and lovely yk? how pure this moment is of esora just. looking at yuka. the sunflowers are bc of esora comparing yuka to them and how esora is looking at yuka w so much love and adoration it's cute ok?

the outfits are from the esora birthday drawing and this is a follow up to it! i was supposed to make a comic but i dont have time so i'll tell u how it was supposed to go: they finished the ferris wheel ride and esora wanted to show yuka something on top of the rooftop of a nice tall building. when they arrived it coincidentally (esora asked the staff) fired off fireworks at the exact moment yuka went close to the railing to see the view. yuka was surprised and turned to look at esora to ask her abt the display only to see her abt to take a picture of her.

also yeah esora hasnt taken the photo in the drawing, this is at the moment she is about to do it but still looking at yuka, taking in the beautiful she had so perfectly set up. the firework behind yuka is supposed to make her look like the sun is right behind her or she is the sun herself, it makes it look like she is the center of attention and that she deserves all of the adoration and love esora is giving her. (also because the sunflowers are looking right at her)

something about how yuka always captures the greatest moments around her of landscapes and the things around her but not herself, so esora choosing and trying to capture hers is like she's saying "you deserve your best moments to be seen as well". or something.... i DONT KNOW!!!

the flowers being around and the whole composition is inspired by yuhki kamatani's work on shounen note and our dreams at dusk! i recommended checking our their work! it's so good especially if you love visuals! (their work is so beautiful...)

another thing that inspired this drawing was the last scene of my summer with you (a manga by nagisa furuya!) where one of the main characters takes a picture of the other without him or with him knowing (idk it's been a while) behind this pretty view. the manga actually inspired me a lot when i read it to draw yukaeso related stuff (mostly because of the summer focus nothing else) so i felt it was right to put a reference to it in this drawing!

the flowers were taken from pictures and ripped out to be used for the drawing yes. was it worth it? yes. would i do it again? yes very much.

i chose fireworks NOT because of the fact esora has this weird thing of being gay when there are fireworks but it just makes sense to watch a firework display after a ferris wheel ride, you know? (i wanted this to originally be the trope where one of them will say "look at the beautiful view!" and the other, looking at them, will say "yeah it is" but EUGHGHGHHHG I GOT EMBARRASSED AND I DIDNT WANT TO DRAW A COMIC WHERE EVERYTHING IS HIGH QUALITY--)

also another reason is because in ao to natsu (original not yuka's cover) there's a firework sound effect in one part of the song and since yuka covered it it made sense to make a reference to it as well!

i learned a lot on how to choose colors and stuff with this drawing, im proud of it! (i have yet again evolved my drawing abilities w yukaeso lol--)

if i wasnt so busy with school, i couldve made the comic but this drawing says everything and what i wanted to capture, you know?
