Okay tysm I know nothing about this stuff but I’d love to hear about it. I feel like because the movie was really unengaged with the actual politics in folk music at the time and it made it really unclear how much Bob Dylan himself was engaged in the politics so I’m wondering 1 how political he was in the first place and 2 if his political engagement changed when he moved away from folk music because they definitely acted like playing electric guitar meant not doing political stuff anymore but also acted like he just liked the music more/ wanted to be disruptive so did his politics change? Was the story of the movie really ‘Bob Dylan stops caring about civil rights because he gets into the kinks yay’ because that definitely doesn’t sound right but all the politics were so vague and surface level that the political side of people’s motivations felt really unclear

rubs my hands together in a delighted fashion. ok this is a question I can actually somewhat answer for you so let's get into it.

No, his politics didn't change because he moved away from folk music. there's two things it's important for you to know: one, Bob Dylan didn't start with folk music. He was into early rock and rhythm and blues first. this guy wasn't listening to Woody Guthrie from day one, he was listening to Elvis and Muddy Waters and Buddy Holly and Little Richard and Lead Belly. He only came to folk music later, which people at the time tended to forget about. Rock was his true passion at the start. Two, Bob Dylan never identified himself as a political song writer. He always said he didn't write about politics, he wrote about his own core values and the things he saw in the world. I'm watching a documentary about him rn called No Direction Home, and in it he says something along the lines of "you can care about a group of people without making it a political thing". I love his music and it's influenced me a lot, and I think he's a fascinating person, but I'm not a huge fan of Bob Dylan's politics myself, because I think he's always been a bit wishy-washy about what he actually believes. I understand why people were mad at the time, because he wrote all these moving songs about the civil rights movement and then when confronted about them later he always hedged and claimed he wasn't trying to be political even though at the time he clearly was. I think he's more of a liberal than a true leftist. There were real leftists in the folk revival, and they were people like Phil Ochs. In the end Bob really was in it because he wanted to be famous. I think he believed deeply in the civil rights movement because he admired a lot of black artists and truly thought that racism was nonsensical, but beyond the surface level he wasn't an activist and he never tried to present himself as one, he had that role forced upon him by people who saw him as one and wanted him to be the face of a generation and he was always very opposed to that idea, and eventually it made him cynical. I suppose his political engagement did change when he moved away from folk, because he did stop writing as many overtly political songs, but not immediately and not as drastically as people made it out to be. Bob Dylan is a complicated person who a lot of people tried to box into being one thing or the other and in the end all he really wanted was to get out of those boxes. It's difficult to know what was going on in his head because for years he was a very private person who very intentionally worked to make sure nobody knew his true thoughts on anything.

To put it simply, yes, when he went electric he stopped writing music that people could see as overtly political. But I don't think his beliefs changed. I think it's an early case of people having a parasocial relationship with their favorite celebrity and painting him as more leftist than he really was. He wasn't a political activist, he was a performer. And he never pretended to be anything else.

spell write-up: money box

(this is a very messy description of my long-term money spell. enjoy!)

first of all – i decided to do a money box instead of a money bowl for two reasons: i dont have that much space (and thus need to be able to fit things on top of other things), and im quite clumsy and prone to knocking things over on accident.

i bought a silk(?) piece of clotch to line a small box. the primary ingredients were rice, cinnamon, a drawn solar symbol, a written prayer, and possibly more herbs though i dont really remember. over time i added a LOT more things – cedar oil, basil, a key, flower petals, vanilla… basically anything and everything i had in the cupboard, in small amounts. not all of it was money-specific; sometimes i add things to bring peace to my financial matters, for instance. indeed i consider the variety useful in symbolizing multiple income sources.

i work the box every thursday during the hour of jupiter, usually first thing in the morning, since i think about december? january? the couple of times i missed it i would do it after sunrise on sunday. the standard procedure is lighting the designated candles, ‘mixing’ the contents while thanking the involved spirits (oh yeah i involved a number of entities in this) and burning incense as offering, adding something (new or more), continuing the mixing while talking specifically about what im currently in need of, thanking the sun and jupiter another time, closing the box and blowing out the candles (so the smoke may carry my wishes to the entities in question).

i actually dont really do specific petitions atm, hoping to add that to the repertoire in the coming weeks, along with writing more prayers (rn i just have the one). this has been my longest term magical operation (so far!) and i really want to continue it… functionally indefinitely, so it may change over time, as it already has.

the major conclusions are thus:

1. people are not kidding when they recommend a money Bowl. the effects are definitely strongest on thursdays, to the point where it feels like the universe conspires to bring me money Only on those days (very rarely on wednesdays). im hoping to move my workings to a nice bowl as soon as i have the space – possibly also work it more often? not sure how achievable that is for me, though.

2. a big container is a must, not because of the amount of contents but because of the ease of interaction it offers. though also because of the amount yes.

3. basil is awesome for bursts of cash when necessary; however…

4. this is definitely more of a long-term project than an emergency solution. ive noticed a significant build-up effect, where at the beginning it wasnt very strong but now its, well, bending reality for real. however, with the ingredients and work ive used and done its less so about specific amounts and moreso because of the opportunities it seems to generate – at least from my unemployed perspective. possibly very detailed petitions could work around it?

5. leaving cash in the box is not only good magically, it also makes it smll very good. this is a very fun thing when youre giving people cash n u see them go Huh?

i think thats the bulk of it? i dont want to be too specific just in case, but im open to answering questions if anyones interested. in conclusion, i would highly recommend this spell type(?), as long as you give it ample time to kick in. i imagine it could be adapted to a lot of traditions and practices!

Fresh Flesh Post Adressing Creepypasta Fandom, issues, concerns, and more. #1

A user that goes by the name Stellar posted a TikTok video on January 1 of 2025. In the post the text reads;

“ wtf is happening on Creepypasta tumblr. Ask boxes were turned off because people planned on sending child p*rn and gore. There already are so few Creepypasta Creators anymore and their trying to wash them out, for what? ”

So I’ve came back on here to not only address it, but to see if what Stellar said is true. So far, I have not seen any posts from Creepypasta artists talking about receiving p*rn and a few people even responded to my first post asking about it. Some said it hasn’t happened to them yet and it might just be them, while another mentions it has not happened to them or any of their Creepypasta buddies as far as their aware. Mentioning how how the person might just be fear mongering, and it might just be a specific person it’s happening to.

Stellar does however reply to one comment under their TikTok post. The question asks; if it’s only happening on blogs that have their images turned on for asks,

Stellar replied saying; “ it’s super graphic ones are going through the images on ones. However I think I can assume harassment might go through a regular ask box. ”

Still no evidence has been provided to support Stellar’s statement.

I also wanted to address the part where Stellar mentions; there being fewer Creepypasta Creators and them being “washed out.”

Creepypasta Creators are not probably not leaving due to receiving P*rn or Gore in their ask box’s. Turning off their ask boxes is understandable response to receiving inappropriate things in ask box’s.

However the reason why most Creators leave; is actually due to the Creepypasta fan base. I’ll go more into depth on what I mean in another post. Because this posts main focus is on addressing the Tumblr Ask Box situation and weather its true or not.

The comments under Stellars TikTok were not filled of people agreeing with what Stellar was saying but instead with people who were confused on what she was talking about. Only one person in the whole comment section wasn’t confused but they didn’t exactly confirm what Stellar was saying to be true. Here’s what the comment states;

“ unfortunately happens to blogs more often then you’d think, happens a couple times a year :( had several instances of it on my old rp blog (Roleplay blog) it’s so bizarre and gross. ”

The comment didn’t confirm wether this is actually happening to Creepypasta Bloggers, but did confirm that things like that have happened to others on tumblr. In the commenters case his old roleplay account.

Until evidence comes out or is found of this happening we can not be certain wether this is actually happening or just fear mongering.

Hiii!!! I just wanted to quickly hop into your asks to say that I totally binged your Jack Daniels/Agent Whisky (not anymore ig, lol) series, "Fallout" and holy shit, it's so SO GOOD.

I really liked those first chapters of sort of world building, trying to establish where we were in comparison to canon. I loved the way you wrote Ginger, there are very few moments of her and Whisky interacting in the film, and you took that and expanded it a billion times more. There are hints of a loving relationship between them in the movie, but you made it so evident, and it absolutely broke my heart how worried and involved she was in getting Jack back.

Your Tequila is another character that I love immensely, he's so funny and his southern charm jumps out of the words. I cannot stress enough how good of a job you've done in taking an already existing world and adapting it into this wonderful story that you've made. Every choice, every OC fits perfectly in the crazy world that is that of Kingsman, and it is amazing to witness as a reader. (#1 Eve fan, right here)

Don't even get me started on Jack. Dude. Seriously. I love him. You destroyed him and build him back up again, without losing his essence. It's been so interesting to see him change and evolve throughout the story. Mimosa (or Whisky, now ig) is absolutely incredible too, she's funny and strong and smart, but also stubborn and hot headed, that's what makes her so cool to read, and what makes her fit with our wonderful Jack (tho tbh that also has the potential to blow things up).

Hi there! 🤗 I’m not entirely sure from when this ask is considering that tumblr didn’t alert me to the fact that I had something in my ask box but if you’re still interested I’m always happy to chat about my interests.

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are Formula 1 drivers and also teammates. They both drive for McLaren. Lando has been in F1 and with the team since 2019, Oscar only joined the grid last year. They are both still pretty young (Lando is 24, Oscar is 23) and are incredibly talented drivers.

Their dynamic can be described as “opposites attract”. Lando is known for being chatty, outgoing and a little silly. He’s also pretty open about his emotions. When he’s frustrated or upset you can definitely tell which is something he’s gotten a lot of backlash for (especially recently) because people feel like he’s acting childish/ungrateful but personally I’ve always liked that he doesn’t try to hide how he feels. He’s also quite open about his struggles with his mental health and as someone who’s dealing with similar issues I can relate to him quite a bit. I am also happy that someone in his position is so open about his struggles.

Oscar on the other hand is kind of deadpan and acts incredibly mature in every situation. He never argues with other drivers and even if his race goes catastrophically wrong he just kind of shrugs it off and moves on to the next week. People sometimes act as if he has no emotions which is obviously not true. He’s just an introvert but you can tell that he has definitely gotten more comfortable on the grid/with media etc. over the past year. He’s actually really funny in a sort of lowkey, sarcastic kind of way (especially on social media).When he’s around Lando he turns into a giggling mess. I’m talking bending over in laughter at any little thing Lando says. And while I do like Lando a lot I can tell you he is not THAT funny.

Their personalities just work really well together. Oscar is patient and calm where Lando is not and Oscar is always ready to indulge him. Oscar has even earned the nickname Oscar ‘heart-eyes’ Piastri because of the way he always looks at Lando as if he hung the moon, but to be fair Lando is no better in that regard. They also have massive respect for each other and are never shy to highlight the other’s strengths and compliment them on a job well done.

McLaren has been doing really well this year. For the first time in forever they actually have competitive car and both Lando and Oscar achieved their maiden wins this year which is obviously a pretty big deal. Mclaren is also in the fight for the Constructors Championship and Lando himself is fighting for the Drivers Championship title. And while that is really exciting, McLaren has unfortunately made some questionable strategic decision in the las few races which definitely cost both Lando and Oscar a few more wins. Lando and Oscar fans have been at each other’s throat lately because Lando fans think he should be prioritised considering that he’s in the fight for the title, while Oscar fans don’t want to see their driver being side lined. But tbh I think the main fault lies with the team and neither of the drivers should be getting hate for doing their job.

There have been a few tense situations throughout the year. The most prominent one being Hungary, Oscar’s maiden win. While definitely deserved, McLaren messed up the strategy once again and kind of tainted that moment. A lot of people feared that the team’s incompetence might strain Lando and Oscar’s relationship as teammates, but luckily no matter how unsatisfied they seem after a race, they never seem to have a problem with each other and Lando himself even said that Hungary made their relationship even stronger.

I could honestly rant for ages about F1 and these two in particular but I don’t want to bore you. This has already gotten so much longer than I intended it to be. 😅I still hope I was able to give you a rough idea of who these two are and if you ever want to see their dynamic in action you should check out McLaren’s social media accounts (their YouTube videos in particular).

Hi, I am here in your humble ask box to yap about your 2 adventures AU :)

Well, more like ask questions, but not important.

First, I'm currently writing a fic based on it (not finished, but ~3.7k words rn and not much left), starting with the 2nd adventure because it's fun and I wasn't in the mood to write Warriors suffering THAT much (he still is tho, but less, kinda)

Second, as I'm directly writing in your AU—and not just inspired or based on—I like to keep things as close to what you've said as possible, at least in the beggining.

...So, questions! No need to answer if you don't want to, or even just do a few of them, I was just wondering. I'll still be releasing the fic and @ you anyways, I just like to hear your opinion.

1. I made Four (called Minish early on in the fic) have changing eye color based on his mood, but the colors (characters) aren't present when merged. What do you think of them appearing? Are they all in Four's head? Take turns? Do they only exist when split? Are they sometimes there and sometimes not? Something else?

2. Four and Shadow relationship. Has Shadow existed? Is he dead? Alive? They dating/engaged/married/exes? If <-, is it only Vidow or Fourdow? Is he their housecat?

3. Any change of appearances outside of obvious height? I imagine then to look pretty close/the same to their original, especially those who's ages are close to or are often headcanoned to be close to their age in the comics.

Also if there's something special you want to mention for their 1 adv./2 adv. Say it under this question?

Also if Shadow how do you imagine he looks like?

4. Thoughts on Warriors ship? I usually don't really ship him with anyone, I sometimes put him with Artemis but mostly just so he's taken...Or go all out with Warrahim, but that needs more explaining than I usually bother with. Honestly, him dating a (male) OC had gone to mind a bit whilst writing, but I think I'm making it into another seperate fic than this one.

Either way, I was wondering if you had any ships of him in mind? Ofc it wouldn't be there immideatly, but something that could be built up when/if I—or others—decide to write in this AU.

Totally not because I was planning on writing Artemis x Impa in this AU. Nope. Not at all.

And I’d like you to know that I am perfectly okay with you adapting my AU in any way you wish. I appreciate you giving me credit but I’d never post something without fully intending on sharing it! So please do whatever you wish! Don’t let me hold you back!

That being said though, I’m also really really excited to talk more about this AU! 

In the second half of the journey I think the colors appearing are fair game! I personally think that when they’re merged as Four they’re generally one person again. Like, they’re Four now. I kind of follow Steven Universe rules when it comes to Four for myself if you’ve ever watched the show 😭 but basically, when the colors merge as Four, they are a separate person while being a combination of theirselves if that makes sense? I think they still kind of have some kind of autonomy, like if Four were to pass a bookstore he might get a very sharp urge to go there that he might not normally have. In stressful situations I think his thoughts would fragment more. I like all different writings of Four though! Honestly, him going down more of the taking turns path might be more interesting in this story but I’d have to play with different ideas. 

As for Shadow… I forgot to think about him 😭 I think it depends on your opinion if he’s dead or alive… for a timeline, my headcanons teehee, Four went through his Four Sword Quest when he was somewhere between 14-16? I’m not entirely sure which age but teenager. Four reunites with the chain when he’s like… we can say 28? I believe Four would appreciate Shadow enough to want to bring him back or resurrect him. To save him from that fate. Whether or not 10 years is enough time for Four to save him is your judgement 👀. I think Vidow is real 😭 like it doesn’t even matter whether I ship it or not. I read the manga and those boys had something going on. I think when Four remerges the rest of the colors, and Four himself might love Shadow or at least really understand why Shadow does. Maybe it’s more complicated than just a matter of romantic love, duty, or respect. Maybe Shadow and Four has something weird… (but yea, I ship it. I’ll ship anything with a good enough plot)

Honestly for change in appearance, I don’t think much would change. Least of all for Twilight and Sky who don’t have any more quests. Hyrule might be a bit surprising, during his second quest he learns magic so maybe that does something to him. He also might be better fed by now, better at coping with the cult. Wild would be pretty drastic actually, he has scars now and a wild look to him. If you think he’s gone through totk maybe he’s missing an arm? As for Shadow, I think it’s funny when people keep his manga emo boy look, but that’s just me 🙂‍↕️

For Wars, I didn’t have a ship for him in mind, I honestly think he’d be a bit busy for anything like that, but at the same time if it works for him it works! I personally headcanon him as gay, I have nothing to base this off of. I think it’s the scarf. It whispers to me… but that being said, I’d never slander anybody’s ship or opinion. But also CRAAZZZY that you mention Impa x Artemis bc I love that ship. I think Artemis is also gay. WLW and MLM solidarity.

Doctor Who Thoughts! (Ep 1 and 2)

Since the spoiler situation is so risky this year, I'll keep my usual episode notes below a read more for now. Took these non-chronologically while watching and rewatching (becuase even though I'm ridiculously busy rn with thesis and work stuff, of course I'm doing that), so it's less of a reaction and more of a moment-to-moment breakdown.

Ep 1: Space Babies

"I was adopted and the planet that took me in... they were kinda posh. They'd use titles like the Doctor, or the Bishop, or the Rani, or the conquistador. Say Doctor for a thousand years and it becomes my name." So we're right in with the recap. Good. Also still leaning on the Timeless Child thing, which I have mixed feelings about. I love it not being ignored... but I would still rather it not become THE origin for the Doctor. At least not without acknowledging some of the ambiguity on how exactly the Timeless Child is linked to the Doctor. (Personal favourite explanation: they're just the Other. They're not a previous 'incarnation' of the Doctor, but a previous 'REincarnation', something which we know existed on Gallifrey even prior to regeneration, and opens up its own questions about Gallifrey.)

A little odd emphasis on the titles, given it's such a renegade thing. Makes me think of entry-level fans who assume all Time Lords use such titles.

Love the Rani name drop though, of course. A bit odd to get one now, considering there was JUST almost one in The Giggle. Russell what are you up to...?

"You're the Doctor, but you're… the police?" "Police box, no! No, no, no, no, that's a disguise." "Oh." Ruby takes a deep breath realising she didn't just join a cop.

You CAN'T just spring This is Gallifrey on me like that Murray Gold. Not this early.

"I am the last of the Time Lords"... ugh again. Thanks Chibbs.

Also still a bit interesting that all Time Lords are assumed to be gone, given there's nothing as catostrophic as the Time War that caused it, just the Master raging out. There's still plenty of room for surviving renegades and such. (cough!Rassiloncough!) Pretty sure the Division agents in Flux were Time Lords too, though who knows if they're from the 'present' era. More on this in Ep 2.

"And I am so, so glad to be alive." Wow, you can tell 14 went through his break. Quite a turn around from 12 hesitating to regenerate and 13's hidden struggles.

The Doctor healing the butterfly... on one hand, it's not unprecedented with stuff like 10 and the TARDIS crystal, 11 healing River's hand or 12 and Davros, but compared to those cases it's a little odd seeing it done so easily for something with no tech or inate regenerative ability.

I find it interesting that Lizard!Ruby looks almost Silurian, but clearly isn't given her hair and antennae.

The TARDIS trip gags of this and 'mavity' are a fun stylistic switch for the show, but I do hope we don't get too many of them.

"Is that a matter transporter like in Star Trek?" "We've got to visit them one day." Assimilation^2 canon?! /s (but seriously, love stuff acknowledging the 'everything is canon' nature of the DW uni-/multiverse).

So much emphasis on the coincidence with Ruby. RTD loves that trope doesn't he?

"Baby farms boost the population. Sometimes a world goes sterile or... I don't know, goes mad and bans kissing." Or in the case of Gallifrey... maybe both, depending on how you follow Platt or Parkin's lore for the looms.

Don't think I didn't spot that Mavity easter egg on the overlay.

The phone call is a nice moment... even if entirely RTD ripping himself off.

So... the space babies! It's charming, it's campy, it's fun... it doesn't really work... I'm still glad for it, because what is Doctor Who if not being exceedingly ambitious with a dumb idea (if anything I'm glad that even with Disney money, DW's production value shines through!), but the babies expressions always match so poorly to the dialogue that it's pretty distracting. I hope kids will like it though.

I kinda wish these were just child actors, instead of cgi, babies, and voice acting. It would have made a lot more sense in the story, and probably been cuter tbh. (Side note: didn't Disney ask RTD to propose a more ambitious first episode? I wonder if that had some part in this.)

"I made this for you. It's a little flower." Some of Eric's expressions with the dialogue do make me crack up a bit though.

Also glad to see more "[blank] in space" formula episodes, since that was one thing the RTD era always really shined with.

The waiting for Mummy and Daddy thing is very charming too. As is the Doctor and Ruby taking time to give them all hugs.

The multi-pronged satellite design weirdly evokes the Division's timeship design. Definitely just a funny coincidence though. It's cool seeing less 'one-way-up' station designs though.

"Did we grow up wrong?" 😥 (Also with looms on mind, this weirdly feels like a reverse 'childe' situation.)

"Oh 'Nanomatrix electroform'." With the revelation that 'Nan-E' is a person, I like to think this is the Doctor just bullshitting his way through.

The snow and the memory changing is... interesting. More later.

"Oh, I thought my birth was crazy!" Let's not get into it Snail.

The shutting down of the baby station, yet it being illegal to actually stop birthing them even though the station has a limited lifespan feels VERY topical to me, in a weird way. It evokes the post-Roe abortion bans in America, and how pro-life people only care about the fetus, regardless of viability or post-birth care.

"That's the fate of every refugee in the universe. You physically have to turn up on someone else's shore." Again politics, quite explicitly with the use of 'shore' rather than orbit or a similar term that makes sense in an interplanetary context.

"Children will return to the upper levels, or have no /expletive/ dinner. Let Nan-E say fuck!

I love all the actual info in the screen art. If I was an active wiki editor I'd love to take the time to break down all the system info.

At first I thought the bogeyman would be a more 'fantasy' creature a la the Goblins, between it's storybook nature and scaring the Doctor, so it being an artificial creature designed to be scary down to its sounds was a cool twist. Also being made out of bogies?

The fact the story also firmly decides that it's worth saving too? That it's "one of the children"? Muah! 👌 No notes.

The way the airlock works with the 'oxygen field' is a little counter-intuitive and confusing, but I'll allow it. I take it as a safeguard force field gradually powering down, hence the slow depressurisation.

"A great pile of sh-" Let the Doctor say shit"

I buy the methane working to get them to Mondo Caroon a bit less. Hopefully planetary orbit is close enough for refugee status.

Again, Eric's face cracks me up.

TARDIS key! I like this tradition.

A bit cruel to not take Ruby to Ruby Road after bringing up the mystery during the episode, even if it makes sense. Clearly also a bit of a callback to Father's Day.

The emphasis on Ruby's adoptive mum vs bio mum is good.

This arc with Ruby feels weirdly like RTD giving his own take on a Series 6/7 story arc, even down to the ambiguous TARDIS bioscan like with Amy.

When the Doctor mentioned Time Lords and titles again, I was bracing myself to see something related in the scan, so didn't even realise it was snowing until the wide shot. But it said her species was human, so nevermind...

"My name was..." Such a tease! I doubt he's actually giving his birthname, even though it's not unprecedented for the Doctor to tell people. Probably either just explaining the title or something.

Ep 2: The Devils Chord

Maestro emerging from anything playing music is so Wordlord-core.

"Henry get away from him." "Them." Woo!

I could have sworn 'Timothy Drake' would be a real person (at first I assumed he was somehow linked to the Beatles), but a quick google doesn't seem to find anything? All I found was a modern-day composer, who seems to have done an album based on Voyager data. Weird choice to go with just a random person sharing the name of a DC character.

Henry Arbinger is neat. If he's actually a seperate character, I guess he's technically the Toymaker's grandson? He does seem to pre-exist Maesto's imprisonment.

Maestro is so good throughout the whole episode.

The fourth wall breaking with the theme! Transition into the main theme could have been smoother though. I kinda wish they just kept a full piano version all the way through, like Capaldi's guitar.

Speaking of the theme, it somehow appearing in universe on the jukebox?! Really funnily lines up with a later joke in retrospect.

"My mum she had a girlfriend: Claire." Between this, the "heartbroken lesbian song" later and Maestro, this episode really starts to showcase the queerness of this era.

Ruby's first plaid dress is so Clara-ish. As for 15… while I don't mind the Doctor being a bit more casual, seeing him wandering the TARDIS in jeans and trainers is kinda meh. The period costumes are great though. Always happy to see those.

Speaking of 15 and Ruby. They continue to be a delight.

Not gonna lie, as someone who's never really listened to the Beatles but knows their songs only vaguely, it took me a moment to realise there was something wrong with their 'dog' song.

Wasn't expecting the Cilla Black cameo!

Very weird doing a historical with living people. Particularly Paul McCartney, given he has a fairly prominent role, along with John Lennon.

Probably a bunch of easter eggs I'm missing because I don't know the Beatles. I only just discovered while writing that the "Mr Epstein" the Doctor mentioned was their manager.

Weird that we've had two mentions of the First Doctor and Susan in 1963 in two episodes. With it being Feb 11th here… cue more fan debate about when exactly they arrived in London, especially if you account for the "bad smog" in December 1962 line.

"You've got children?" "I did have. I will have." Now he could just be referring to the First Doctor's future, but I can't help but imagine this as a Miranda Dawkins reference! In fairness, he does say that "Time Lords get a bit complicated" which doesn't really match that interpretation. Could also connect it to the future!Other + Other'sGranddaughter!Susan interpretation of things I suppose.

"Where is she?" "I don't know. The Time Lords were murdered. The genocide rolled across time and space, like a great big cellular explosion. Maybe it killed her too." Uhhhhhhhhhh, WTF does that mean? It doesn't sound like the Master's actions, unless he went on a killing spree beyond Gallifrey? My best guess is it's referring to the Time War (in general, rather than just its ending - which tbf does at least match our current knowledge about Susan's fate). If it does refer to it, it kinda seems to ignore both the Moffat and Chibnall arcs with Gallifrey, both its return and its destruction again, by referring to the Time Lords as being 'murdered' in that genocide. Sounds more like The Ancestor Cell than anything tbh. The wiki connects it to the Death particle, but I doubt that.

Maestro giving the Giggle, already connected to music, and the Doctor immediately grabbing Ruby's hand and running running?!

The Doctor removing the sound with the sonic sure is... another sonic power. I've never been one to complain about the sonic use, but between this, plugging in the sonic last episode and the holograms and force field in the anniversary specials, this is getting a bit much. I'll allow it in this case though, as I assume it's working through the TARDIS translation circuit.

The sound design is great this episode.

"That thing must be part of the pantheon" Wait... it's obviously linked to the Toymaker but... the pantheon as in the Pantheon of Discord? Like the Trickster's part of?

June 2024. Woah, so it's been a big time skip! 6 months from Ruby's perspective, and she has been travelling at least some of that time. The Doctor might know what's up with Ruby by this point?

Kinda crazy how much emphasis we've gotten ever since Flux on time's malleability, with the time tracks shifting so easily. Really supports my idea that the Ravagers' attempt to undo the Anchoring of the Thread has had an ongoing effect.

"Child of the Toymaker" Huh. That works surprisingly well with the version of the Toymaker's origin that has a sister (Hecuba from "The Queen of Time"). Interesting, considering The Giggle seemed to lean more in the Crystal Guardian direction.

"The Music of the Spheres" I know it's an actual term, but you can't say that without me thinking of the Prom minisode.

"You might be bright, and hot, and... *dun du-dun* timey-wimey." Heck yeah. Only contention is it could have been slightly more perfect if Maestro played the four-beat baseline, since 'heartbeat of a Time Lord' and all that. I guess that's kinda synonymous with the Master though, which might have been misleading.

Though they do then play four beats when attacking the TARDIS (also awesome), so I guess they could have gone with it in the first place.

"The only thing I can do is take us back to 1963!" Fast return switch time?

Weird emphasis on the TARDIS groan once they exit. Seemed disconnected from Maestro, but didn't come back again.

"I thought that was non-digetic" Perfect! So should we take this to mean that the Doctor can hear the show's soundtrack?!

The music while Ruby is dragged away. At first I thought it was "The Sun's Gone Wibbly", but listening closely it sounds closer to the music from the climax of Waters of Mars, itself very similar.

"Playing lovesick songs for heartbroken lesbians." I mentioned the queerness of the episode already, but can I also point out I think this is the first time we've actually used LGBT terminology in the show? We've certainly used the descriptors before and plenty of people have explicitly had partners of the same gender etc., but for example, Bill never called herself a lesbian, nor did Clara ever identify as bi. Only exception is 'gay', and even then it's mostly only been jokes (eg. the thin fat gay Anglican marines, Rose calling Nine gay as an insult etc.).

"How can a song have so much power, and power like him? The Oldest One. The night of her birth, he can't have been there. What for?!" Oooh, so the One Who Waits is connected to Ruby. Interesting... also another connection to the Guardians and/or 'pantheon'. Is the One Who Waits one of either of those? If a Guardian, then the only candidate is the Red Guardian (who was technically there that night being the Doctor), but that would be ridiculous to be the answer. If connected to the latter, then... the Trickster? Or more likely someone completely new, of course.

Ngl, at first a little part of me thought the 'reverse devil's chord' would end up being part of the theme song.

The Beatles were surprisingly underused through the episode, but them finding the chord is a decent use of them, even if it could be seen from miles away.

The wink launching into a song and dance number, less so! I was wondering when the musical scenes from the trailer were coming...

Shout out also to the Murray Gold cameo on the piano, somehow playing himself according to the credits, despite this being in the 60s.

I'm not familar with them so not 100%, but I think the two dancing with the Doctor and Ruby here are cameos from Strictly Come Dancing too? Specifically Shirley Ballas and Johannes Radebe.

Speaking of "the twist in the end" pretty cool that "Harbinger" survives. It's unlikely, but I'd love to see Maestro return, maybe for a full-on musical episode?

The piano dancing was cute. Very 'Big'!

Overall thoughts in a few words?

Space Babies was kind of meh, even if I appreciate the campiness of it and the ending is pretty good. Pretty standard decent, if not great, episode.

The Devil's Chord however might actually be one of my favourites? Maybe even my favourite RTD episode, though I'd have to think through them all. And that's without being a Beatles fan and probably missing all sorts of flourishes.

Looking forward very much to next episode too, with Moffat back! I saw the episode was about the Doctor stepping on a landmine, but I thought that was a joke before the Next Time teaser. 😅 Apparently it's Ncuti's favourite episode of the season, which is a good sign!

I don't have any drawings for this *that i haven't posted*, but I know I have posted at least 1 silly domestic-y doodle once. (it was a doodle of Jeremy Jr. with Hlry and Jonn)

In my mind Grumbot and Jrumbot (and sometimes Triv, but she's very fragile) do like, roughhousing. Even as young adults they still play fight for fun and even sometimes to settle silly disputes. At night they either sleep, like I've writen in my fic, "going into charging mode, or they stay awake but attached to a charging cable. So they can still kinda do stuff but it needs to be somewhat around their power stations.

Jrumbot usually sleeps, unless he's super focused on a new book he's gotten or texting people deep into the night, Triv always sleeps, surrounded by adorable snail plushies (every time you look there is a new one /silly), and Grumbot,,,, he has a place to sleep but he usually just runs his main battery fully dry before even thinking of charging, unless he's in a situation where him sleeping is necessary, like to pass the night.

Jeremy Jr and Hermes I think would have something akin to a sleepover very often. They sleep in the same house most of the time (aka they travel together between their dads houses most of the time), but they still spend a lot of nights up together, gossiping and doing skincare and stuff. Jeremy kinda needs the skincare cause their skin can dry up very fast since they're meant to be in water most of the time, and Hermes just thinks it's fun :3

Jeremy also spends a lot of their time with their own little friendgroup away from the main next gen kids, playing video games and gossiping and dressing up all cute for normal outings. They have a lot of fun :3

Tom in my mind spends a lot of time at the ranch and walking around Tumble Town when he's not hanging out with the others. He has his older sister he can hang out with, which usually consists of very chill paralel activities and taking care of the animals at the ranch. He really likes horseback riding and practicing bow and arrow tricks :3 or even tricks with wind charges and firework crossbows, my favorite sharpshooter <3

there's a developing story in Australian media about Tiktok pixels collecting unauthorised data in an aggressive manner via their ads on thrid party websites, and I was wondering what a Professional like yourself made of it

ooh reading into this now... full disclosure that (1) until/unless I get another job in adtech I am technically not a Professional anymore lol and (2) pixel tags weren't a big component of my last role so I only have a fairly basic understanding of how they work. but from what I'm seeing here it sounds like the main issue with tiktok rn isn't the data collection per se, since these pixel tags are functionally identical to the ones employed by facebook and others, just that tiktok isn't obtaining user consent the way other companies are ostensibly do. although even that seems like a convenient lead-in for the whole Oh My God A But Chinese Company Is Doing It thing.

and tbf I kinda can pull that in both directions—on one hand facebook in particular has gotten in a lot of trouble before for bad data collection practices and putting that data in the hands of people who used it to (maybe, allegedly) sway public opinion, so the general fear underpinning this thing is like, not unfounded right. (even though I don't think the issue behind the cambridge analytica scandal was centered around tracking pixels specifically?) on the other hand the very nature of facebook's rocky history re. data and privacy proves that western companies can and will spy on their users and it's for sure disingenuous to act like ~shady foreign governments~ are the only ones with any incentive to do so lol.

I guess you could argue that facebook's incentive for all the spying was simply Making Money, even if they took money from people who did use that spy data to spread propaganda; like, to the parent company, the propaganda wasn't the goal. whereas many will obviously argue that with tiktok data some undefined form of propaganda is the goal. but seeing that tiktok ads are a multi-billion dollar enterprise(!) I'm way more inclined to believe that tiktok is also spying for the sake of Making Money. clearly a whole fucking lot of money!

this is something I've for sure said before but I also wholeheartedly believe (and to some extent, know, although again pixel tracking isn't my exact wheelhouse) that advertising data is a lot less granular and therefore less useful than most people imagine it to be, which severely limits the kind of compromising shit you can pull under normal circumstances.

even in the article I linked, where they talk about tiktok pixels being able to track the shopping/browsing habits of users, basic device info, and occasionally some PII like phone numbers and email addresses... like, okay, so let's say tiktok knows that junglejim4322@yahoo.com used an iphone to look at a website that sells orthopedic shoe inserts. or even maybe something more salacious like, idk, questionably legal gas station dick pills. from a "let's use tiktok to spread propaganda" perspective I really struggle how that information would be valuable or what you'd do with it other than emailing that person outright to taunt them about their fucked up feet and/or dick? (if the goal is to show people certain kinds of content in tiktok's app then certainly you have both the means to do so and plenty of behavioral data to draw up on in the app itself. it's a literal video platform lol.) otoh from a "let's use this data to create advertising segments" perspective then you can easily monetize this info by telling advertisers that you know a guy who's a prime target for ads about podiatry treatments or whatever, in which case advertisers are more eager to spend money on ads because they think they're talking to a relevant audience. and in that case advertisers don't really care what the guy's name or email is, just that he ticks certain boxes that make him a worthwhile use of ad dollars. and even in cases where bad actors do want more specific data for shady purposes, it's pretty difficult to collect it and even harder to propagate it across different platforms; one thing I think gets overlooked a lot with cambridge analytica in particular is that it happened on a platform where users willingly share their full name, birthday, gender, relationship status, political leanings, job title, etc. outright, and then create connections between other people who also willingly share all that info. in some ways I don't think it could've happened anywhere but facebook, because this is a situation where you really didn't have to squeeze anything out of users—they just came out and told you! (it's also part of why non-shady facebook ads are so lucrative; you don't have to guesstimate audience data when you can literally just specify that certain ads should only be shown to people whose profile says they're between the ages of 35 and 55.) and as far as I'm aware tiktok just does not have anything remotely approaching that kind of profile data.

anyway lol. as far as I can tell I think this is a GDPR-y consent issue first and foremost, which will probably turn into a thorny battle over whether tiktok can/will be held to EU data standards or similar statues with a good helping of Chinese Company Bad mixed in for good measure. also side note but remember the whole thing about tiktok data transparency but the american company they put in charge of it is fucking oracle?
