why Chronus deserves to be in -STRIVE-
-STORY/FEATS-
Chronus is supremely important to Xrd’s story and is a major player in the world of GG.
He was the leader of the United Nations Conclave, an organization (if an organization can consist of just four people lol) that essentially dictated the entire world, he was one of the five original apostles of The Original alongside Asuka, Baldias, Axus and Libraria, he caused the entirety of Xrd -SIGN-’s story to happen, and he was a major behind-the-scenes player in Revelator when he freed That Man.
He’s an extremely proficient magic user, capable of freely moving extremely large objects in and out of the Backyard, staying in the Backyard for long periods of time and activating/deactivating Absolute Defense: Felion in a matter of seconds. It’s honestly a little strange to me that people say Ariels should’ve been playable since she was “the main villain” when Chronus was ripe for the picking lol.
-CONNECTIONS-
Chronus has some kind of relationship with almost every character in -STRIVE- (mostly negative ones lol), opening the door for many, many unique interactions with different cast members. Personally, the ones I’m most interested in are Zato-ONE, Faust and Asuka but there’s so much more: Ramlethal, Slayer, Venom, Milia, Chaos, Ky, etc, etc.
I’d love to see Zato’s relationship with the Conclave explored in more detail, how does he really feel about being resurrected? Would he thank Chronus, or despise him for bringing him into this world without emotions?
Chronus has a very interesting relationship with Asuka. It’s clear that they knew each other from being students of The Original and Chronus bringing up Asuka’s “Master Thesis” when they met in Revelator but I really want to see it explored more! How different are their respective relationships with The Original? Do they even like each other? Is Chronus using the same methods as Asuka to stay alive? Why did all of The Aposltes decide to hide their identities?
As for Faust, I feel like he’d have the only positive relationship with Chronus. Unless Faust’s “square one” transformation made him go back to hating Chronus, I think they’d just have a nice chat.
Furthermore, (according to this translation of him at the France Japan Expo), when asked for funny stories about Faust, Daisuke answered: “Just Faust himself is funny, right? But well, this is a story we haven't depicted yet, but after the story of Strive, Faust and a character called Chronus end up continuing to travel together for a long time…Going with that- Chronus is a character with a very rigid personality, but through living with Faust, I imagine he would gradually become softer over time in a slice of life comedy-like scenario.”
-DESIGN-
Chronus, along with the rest of the Conclave are clearly based on the mysterious Q from Street Fighter III. This by itself is, to me at least, already a good enough design to get into -STRIVE- with some minor adjustments. However, at the end of -SIGN- Chronus’ design gets even cooler! Now sporting a cracked mask, a ripped up hat and blood running down his face.
Plus, it’s not like they’re completely locked in with this design, they can always change his outfit or mask to make him look even cooler than he already does! Hell, they could even bring back the old mask from Vastedge with a few changes and it’d look great!
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly believe that Chronus deserves a spot on the -STRIVE- roster before Arcsys stops adding characters. He’s a wonderful character with a ton of potential and I’m sure he’d draw in both new and old fans no matter what they do with him! Thank you.

anonymous requested: i've been thinking about what to request for the past 3 days and i think i've finally got it. can i ask for kaeya or diluc with a crush that's a depressed bard that always composes sad songs and lyrics? here's the twist, though. their songs and lyrics start to cheer up as the two of them become closer friends!
pairing: diluc x gn! reader
style & genre: written; fluff
warnings: none
notes: i decided to do diluc for this one because I think it’d have a great impact on him as a person as well, and i’m here for more fluff with him 🥰 i made the lyrics myself for the sake of this fic please go easy on me all i know about music is playing the violin/viola also this is long
i changed the prompt a bit if that’s alright!
“Who are you exactly?” Diluc eyes you strangely when you look at him with a blank stare. In one hand you have a notebook and in the other is a lyre. You walked in only moments ago, actively avoiding anyone’s eyes as they knew you weren’t from town. You just wanted to go straight to the owner of the tavern and hope to share what you had in that book of yours.
“A bard,” you say. You look around to see a few of the townspeople staring back while the others cheer happily with each other as if an exciting thing had happened. “Do you have room for a performance?”
Diluc raises an eyebrow and crosses his arms. You didn’t appear to have any double meaning or ill intention in your words, rather, your eyes were just void of any glint of mischief he usually saw in a certain person. But to waltz in one day and ask for something like this so casually, you really weren’t from there.
“Sure, just don’t steal anything.” He is skeptical of you as he is of any one else but you didn’t need to know that. You were used to it after all. He directs you to the side of the bar that was supposedly the “performance stage” but it didn’t matter. Anywhere was fine with you.
The townspeople gradually stop their chatter as you quickly tune your lyre, playing a chord once the strings were ready. The tune that escapes into the air effectively silences any remaining voices. The song you were going to start wasn’t one they would usually hear in this city of freedom and apparently cheerfulness.
Your fingers hook at the strings, releasing them with ease as a soulful melody fills the entire tavern. The chord was of the lower register and hummed deeply. Diluc flicks his eyes over to you as he cleans a glass and sees your own eyes are closed.
When the night has passed
For then will I be free
Will they see me trample dust
Or let me keep my feet
Your book is open and he can see the words you were singing on the pages. It looks like you just started this line of work given how many pages were left in that book, assuming it was your only one as all you came in with were those two items and a small bag of mora.
He doesn’t notice how much of an effect your song had until he scans over the tavern patreons. Your voice carries through, swaying through the people to where it grazes a piece of their hearts to reminisce forlorn memories. But your words felt soulful as if they had come from your own experiences. A thought passes over his head which causes his heart to pang before quickly shaking it off when he realizes the feeling.
Ah, so you were this type of bard.
Diluc just thinks he’ll only see you one time so he lets the thought pass through.
Once your song ends the drunk townspeople cheer loudly among themselves. You are taken aback by all the noise but bow politely to them for their reaction. You take your things as they call out for you to do another song and you shake your head.
“Maybe another time,” you say with slight sorrow to your face or words. They accept the answer and continue on their night and when you turn to leave, Diluc can’t stop the words that come out of his mouth.
“Why not stay for a drink?” You look at him incredulously and he crosses his arms, “Call it payment for your services. They seemed to enjoy it.” You make cautious movement as you make your way to a stool. Diluc sets out an apple cider vinegar drink and you sniff at it. Once you take a sip you notice his face at the corner of your sight. The edge of his lip is slightly quirked up as he sighs while cleaning a glass.
It seems they weren’t the only ones who enjoyed the song.
--
Mondstadt was a city that was very welcoming in comparison to all the other places you spent time at. The people were either unwilling to hear your music or had particular reactions to the pieces you shared. To them, it seemed you didn’t understand that bar music was supposed to be lively and something to dance to. Not something to feel sad about.
But you wanted to share it anyways for your songs are one of the few things in life that you are proud of. One of the few things that have filled the emptiness of yourself that you lost those years ago and maybe, just maybe, sharing them will help you feel in some way. To you, these songs are sorrowful, but they shouldn’t just make people sad. That’s why you were quite surprised at the reactions at Angel’s Share as opposed to those from other places.
They should elicit emotions of nostalgia. Or maybe, you just hadn’t found the right experience to make them happier.
--
You come back a few nights later and Diluc is working the bar yet again. When he lifts his head, his shoulders sag in relief seeing that it is you. Venti had come by a few times after hearing about you and kept pressing the owner about letting him on the stage as well.
He was rejected numerous times in tandem with being asked to pay up for his drink tab.
The same book and lyre are still in hand when you head towards Diluc like you did that first night. He places the glass in his hands down and gives you a nod of his head, “Welcome back.”
“Thanks,” You look around and see that the tavern is even fuller than the last night you performed. It seems word had got around of your songs and they had all been waiting patiently for nights now. That was what an attendee had said to you outside the door anyways. “Do you mind?” You gesture to the stage.
“Go for it,” Any sense of caution that seeped through his words when you met him was near to nonexistent now. Maybe it was the impressions you left on the townspeople and their word of mouth the past few days. A depressing bard in the city of freedom in comparison to the other bards was news, especially when this bar had a wonderful voice to listen to.
The bar quiets again with the numerous greetings and cheers in seeing you up there. You flip open your book and thumb through the pages before settling on one song near the middle. It was a two-parter.
Your fingers pick at the strings lightly, slowly adding pressure thus causing the volume to increase subtly. Diluc shifts in his spot as he tries to focus on the tasks at hand but there really isn’t anything he is going to lose if he wants to listen.
I ran far in the depths of that same night
They chased me off as they truly had hoped
But I lost my way and wandered far
Met and saw numerous things was how I coped
The townspeople are yet again taken by your voice and melody that they had started to move with the music. Diluc decides to abandon his tasks for a little while, now aware how your music allows him to reflect as you intended.
He sees these events before him. The death of one close to him and the loss of someone beside him whom he thought he could trust wholeheartedly. You stop singing but continue with plucking at the strings that calms the atmosphere. It is solemn and relaxing, almost putting the drunkest of the bunch to sleep but through sheer willpower they stay awake to listen on.
Happy and cheerful those that I have seen
But they were not accepting of me
Sharing the harsh reality of these mysteries
How will one otherwise feel so free?
The song ends and a round of cheers erupts, louder than the first night as there were more people. Diluc snaps out of his thoughts and wordlessly fixes you another drink that you take again, albiet still a bit shyly.
“Your lyrics,” Diluc begins and you tense at the sound of his voice, “From experience I assume?” He is straightforward, you should know this from the gossip around town. There was nothing in it for you to hide anything from him or anyone else so you tell him.
“Yes. That’s what makes good music, does it not?” You take a sip of the beverage. It must be a different one as it is much sweeter than the apple cider vinegar. “When you can relate to the words yourself. I simply want to share that with the people for reasons even I am unsure of.”
Diluc hums and doesn’t look you in the eye for his next words.
“I see. Your voice is quite nice.”
--
You both managed to continue with light chatter that night and he learns that you are staying in Mondstadt for quite a bit. You had no set plans to be in a specific place at any specific time so what was the rush to leave? Among this he is aware of how you speak. There is an ambiguous sorrow in your words from the effect of your past, he believes, that share no optimism but realistic choices that would completely stop the conversation.
But he was the same so it continues.
His past is the reason for his own apprehension when speaking with strangers but you were a little different. You outright told him your objective and you were just a bard who wanted to share their experience.
You learn this of him and it was the first time that you felt light when speaking with someone.
--
“Y/n!” They learn of your name after the third night you show up which is another few nights after the second. Some take your music as a lighthearted joke in contrast to their free lives while others pay close attention to the words and sway with the tune.
You give a small grin in acknowledgement before sitting in the stool in front of Diluc. Throughout the weeks you had gotten to know each other a little better besides the titles of The Sorrowful Bard and Diluc of Mondstadt. You were just y/n and he was Diluc.
You always make a point to talk to him before performing, giving a small insight into the meaning behind your words. Last time replayed the sleepless night and doubts as you wandered Teyvat and the time before that was a retelling of an animal that accompanied you for the last months of its life.
“It knew it had to go yet it decided to follow me, spreading that sadness of loss to me as I was attached.” You said to him that night with dry eyes.
All you tell him is that this song is a little different from your other ones.
He shows more of himself to you, actions he wouldn’t typically show to others if it weren’t for a certain motive or purpose. But you were not threatening nor wanted something from him. Diluc put a bit of trust in you for that.
You never sing more than one song each night because you want them to take in the words of each song carefully. Like that animal, you wanted to share the sadness but allow them to see the great memories.
This night contains your fourteenth or fifteenth song and it is fairly new. You wrote this in the early hours of the morning with a newfound emotion bustling inside your chest. You were scared when waking up, but felt reassured when there was a hint of melancholy there among an unfamiliar emotion.
The tavern goers look at you with hopeful and excited eyes. You feel warmth in your heart as you remember the times a few of them have come up to you telling you that your music has made it easier to sleep. That your music is inspiring; sad, but inspiring.
You play a chord and Diluc raises a brow in hearing a lighter tone. Underlying is that first low tone in your first night, indicating that you plan to keep a sense of your usual.
Then I stumbled in, seeing the light there
Unexpected welcoming I was greeted by
At first there was nothing then passed a while
Uprising something foreign for me to finally cry
Even if your eyes are trained to the floor, they are in his general direction. You didn’t know what you were feeling and you sure didn’t want to push it.
He has his entire attention directed at you.
You pluck higher notes much different from the chords you were accustomed to, messing up in a few that no one seemed to notice. You straighten yourself and look over the entire bar, settling your eyes on him for a bit too long for him to notice.
And so thankful am I
To be able to do such as that
And never is it unwelcomed
The beats in my soul are no longer flat
Your eyes stay staring at him and the cheers drown out. Diluc’s hand raises a few centimeters from the counter but you have already picked up your book and instrument and left.
The drink is untouched as he follows after you, thanks to Charles.
--
You feel like you can’t breathe but there is physically nothing blocking your airway. You assumed it was due to the collection of body heat in the tavern but even the cool night air did nothing to soothe the burning in your face.
Why did I look at him? Why was he looking back? What does this mean?
“Y/n!” You gasp at the sound of his voice and as you turn around you hope that it was just in your head. Your mouth opens and closes but you can’t speak. you don’t know what to say.
Truthfully, he doesn’t either.
Diluc didn’t know what to expect when you told him it would be different. He definitely didn’t expect for the song to be about him. He had deducted this reasoning and confirmed it when your eyes met and to you leaving.
In that room he felt the same: his face was warm and his heartbeat picked up when you lingered your gaze on him. He didn’t know what this feeling was either.
Neither of you are speaking, the breeze brushing through.
“I’m sorry!” You say, bowing your head so he cannot see the tears of confusion, frustration, and something else running down your face.
“Why are you apologizing?” He is near you now and he can feel you jump at his touch on your shoulder. When you don’t push him off he moves his gloved hand to cup your face to lift it up. This is the first time he’s seen you cry.
Ironic, given your songs.
Diluc lightly presses his thumb to your cheek to brush off a tear. “Apologizing is for if you’ve done something wrong. You have done nothing of the sort.”
“Are you sure?” You say without hesitation. It is an automatic response, built upon the hardening of your heart and soul through your travels. Diluc chuckles, a small smile on his face.
“I am sure.”
--
You strum lightly, a newfound lightness to you that almost everyone has noticed. Your songs still have that sorrowful reality to them but at the end they have changed. Seeing more of the graceful and fulfilling beauty of life.
Diluc still fixes you drinks after every performance and indulges you in conversation. This time around, however, he leans in closer and places his hand closer to yours.
And you are thankful to feel that emotion.

i know you like them both so yunichika and oda/aoki for the ship ask
thank you for giving me a chance to gush about these kids!!! they’re precious.... this got pretty long so imma put it under a cut
YuniChika, the main boys of 2.43:
• when or if I started shipping it:
tbh i didn’t really ship them when i read the first book... they’re the kind of pairing that i can see people shipping and i think it’s cute, but i’m not super invested in them as a romantic pairing. I think i was more sold about them as a ship in the second book, but i can’t quite remember if there was a specific moment that made me change my mind, or if it was a gradual process
• my thoughts:
i think the anime definitely played up the tension between them (allll the blushes lol), but i’m glad people are enjoying the YuniChika content XD they’re pretty cute!
also, i think they balance each other well and spur each other to become better—Yuni and Chika are both self-centered(?) in very different ways: Yuni lacks drive because he mostly wanted to please people so they’ll like him, while Chika has the opposite problem in that he acts like he doesn’t care what people think of him.
but now Yuni is able to take a stand for his interest in volleyball and for Chika, and while Chika doesn’t really soften and still has a problem with not realizing how harsh he could be, he’s more willing to communicate his thoughts.
• what makes me happy about them:
boys reuniting! relearning how to have a relationship with one another! learning from past mistakes and trying to be better people together! HELL YEAH
• what makes me sad about them:
boys, please use your words to communicate with each other...
also, from Yuni’s perspective, it’s kinda sad when someone you used to know really well comes back into your life, but they’ve changed so much that they are essentially a different person... but of course they have a new opportunity to become closer now 😉 so i’m not that sad about it
• things done in art/fic that annoys me:
... there are fanworks for them?????????
(on a more serious note, erasing their flaws to make them more likable... please don’t make Chika ‘secretly nice’ or whatever, the kid is blunt as hell, and not realizing how his words affect others is his biggest flaw. on the other hand, Yuni can still be a little spineless at times, and sometimes his priorities are. questionable.)
• things I look for in art/fic:
hm, i’d like a future fic about them as professional players! i think their inclination is to stick together (they’re a package deal!) but it’d be super interesting to read something where they’re on rival teams years down the line
EDIT: haha Chika actually transferred to Keisei High School after their first Spring Tournament, so he and Yuni have faced each other as rivals since then (2.43 next 4years). they’re go to the same university and are on the same team now though!
• who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
uh i don’t really have specific people for this, but Chika would probably have to be with someone who understands his love of volleyball (like Oda, but if Oda wasn’t their team captain and thus too much of a dad friend to qualify as a romantic interest), and someone who can inspire Yuni would be good for him
also, i know who i’d NOT be comfy about: the first book (and anime i guess) had this weird tension between Itoko and Yuni, COUSINS who BASICALLY GREW UP TOGETHER. i think(?) their weird whatever was mostly dropped in the 2nd book and wasn’t really made explicit, but like. what the hell. (i have no idea what happens beyond the 2nd book.)
• my happily ever after for them:
the YuniChika in college arc is being serialized rn, so in a way that’s already fulfilled? (i have NO idea what’s going on tho)
in general i just hope they can play volleyball together until one or both decide not to, for whatever reason, and that they stay in each other’s lives and support each other even after they’ve retired from competitive volleyball. i think with Yuni’s personality he could be a good coach after getting more experience, and Chika... he’s really valuable as a strategist, but I think he’d always be a little brusque, so he’s respected but hard to bond with if he does take on coaching?
• what is their favorite non-sexual activity?
bold of you to assume Chika even cares about sex
anyway, they don’t go to movies for a romantic date night, they go watch volleyball matches. sometimes this backfires when Chika gets too frustrated at bad plays tho
and of course i will never pass up an opportunity to talk about Oda/Aoki, the main guys of my heart (my OTP for this series tbh):
• when or if I started shipping it:
they pinged on my radar when they were bickering in Ibara’s chapter, but i wasn’t super duper invested... and then I got to The Dog’s Perspective and the Giraffe’s Perspective (specifically The Kick™) and oh god i’ve never fallen so fast
• my thoughts:
GOD WOW Aoki really loves Oda... even though objectively Oda’s height prevents him from being a super ace, he is the coolest, strongest super ace to Aoki. i think it’s beautiful that someone can see you as your best self even when you’re feeling shitty about yourself. Aoki knows that objectively Oda faces a lot of obstacles, and wants to support him as best as he can—not out of pity (pity would’ve burned out long ago), but because he really respects Oda’s passion and drive.
also, these two have unaddressed issues that they should talk about! Oda, i know you feel inferior but you are so much better than you think you are. please accept that Aoki really does respect you, and that you are worthy of it (or like, you don’t have to be ‘’’worthy’’’’ or ‘’’’’’deserving’’’’’’’’’’ of it, because it is Aoki’s choice to support you and play volleyball with you!!! it’s not something you gotta earn, it’s something freely and happily given to you)
(ahhhhhh i die when i think of them)
• what makes me happy about them:
gosh i love their dynamic SO MUCH! Oda is exactly my type of character (passionate, determined, knowing that he can never be the best at what he’s passionate about due to factors he cannot control, trying to be kind and gracious but struggling with feelings of inferiority and jealousy, thinks of himself as a selfish person, a supporting character...) and Aoki’s devotion is really touching.
again: even when you feel like crap about yourself, there’s someone out there who thinks you’re the best thing that happened to them.
there’s also the fact that Oda thinks the world of Aoki as well (to the point of feeling inferior, which is like... c’mon Oda :/ you are better than you think you are!) he trusts Aoki a lot, despite knowing his willingness to engage in, uh, underhanded methods
• what makes me sad about them:
it’s their last year together, and they’d be approaching a new phase of their lives in different places... although Aoki offered to lower his rankings so they’d go to the same university, realistically they’ll go to different colleges, and most likely end up in different prefectures. (like, not only do i think it’s a Terrible Idea to give up your dream school so that you could stay with someone else, there is no way Oda would accept the offer without being crushed by guilt. something like that would actually ruin their relationship, which i think Aoki knows as well.)
there’s also a lot left unsaid between them at this point and i just want them to lay everything out between them and move forward together
• things done in art/fic that annoys me:
the fact that there’s NONE >:[ what does a gal have to do to get some content for them???????
• things I look for in art/fic:
at this point anything is fine.... it’s a desert out there and i’m dying
more specifically i’m Extremely Down for a get together fic; i personally only see them getting together after high school, at least several months (or even longer) studying in different prefectures and no longer able to see each other every day. (i mean... absence makes the heart grow fonder right?)
i’d also love to see Oda using Aoki’s first name, considering Aoki calls him “Shin” and all. Oda managing to surprise/fluster Aoki would be nice too.
EDIT: they’re both in the Kansai region (2.43 next 4years prologue). Oda’s revealed to be studying in Osaka, and assuming Aoki got into KyoDai, they should be around 2 hours away from each other by train? so visiting each other over short breaks would be cute! also, apparently Oda took a gap year before going to Osaka (2.43 next 4years Ch 1.2), so something set during that time would also be awesome :V
• who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
hm... if i had to imagine people well-suited to them, i’d say Aoki’s type is people who are straightforwardly passionate about their interests (Oda hooked him with his unbridled love of volleyball way back in their first year of high school after all), and I think Oda probably needs someone who is willing to indulge him a little (like Chika he can be pretty dang determined about what he wants, though without the single-minded intensity at the expense of everything else)
... this is just a roundabout way of saying i think they’re ideal for each other, especially if they resolve the problem of hiding things from the other
• my happily ever after for them:
they get careers/hobbies they enjoy, and get a place together as boyfriends/husbands. no i will not hear any criticism of this idea
i can see Aoki working in the private sector (this guy is fine with ‘joking’ about blackmail after all!) after getting his law degree. this is super self-indulgent, but given his penchant of rooting for passionate but objectively disadvantaged entities, i think it’d be pretty awesome if he works for a smaller company that truly believes in their work, instead of working at a big firm pulling in big bucks.
while I’m not sure what Oda is canonically studying, I can see him going into sports education or sports therapy—i think he’d be really good at nurturing the talents of other athletes, and he’s good at rallying the team (Aoki pretty much says he’s the heart of the team in the epilogue of the first book, though Aoki’s kiiinda biased lol). i think it’d be really cute if Oda coaches a grade school team!
neither plays volleyball competitively after high school, but sometimes they watch matches for fun (esp if their ex-teammates are playing). Oda also makes Aoki come to his students’ matches if he doesn’t have work
EDIT: apparently Oda continues competing as a wing spiker in college, playing in Kaisai’s 2nd Collegiate Division (2.43 next 4years Ch 1.2)—Aoki probably watches his matches, even when he’s busy (and Oda probably chides him for neglecting his work, but they both know Aoki can manage his workload).
• what is their favorite non-sexual activity?
hm... idk, i think they’re the kind of couple who are cool with just chilling with each other doing their own work. like, Oda planning strategies for the kids he’s coaching while Aoki reads next to him, occasionally glancing over to make comments, stuff like that
also since Oda says they mostly talked about volleyball during high school, I can kinda see them finding something new they both enjoy after they get together? Maybe shounen manga, for something fun

redamancy // akaashi keiji x reader (1/2)
Author’s Note: I think Akaashi’s too perfect of a human being to crush on, so I made him a vampire in this one because heck, why not?? Akaashi is a gentleman in every aspects, phew. Do tell me what you think? I’ve been having ‘different’ ideas for Haikyuu boys, and I think quarantine makes me want to write them all uwu especially after that heartbreaking, yet perfect end of Haikyuu.
Word count: 4k+
Pairing: Vampire! Akaashi x Golden Blood! Reader
Summary: You were head over heels for Akaashi Keiji.
He was a perfect gentleman—hard-worker, handsome, kind, shy, and confident; a perfect blend of all the right things that a human boy could have at the age of 18.
But, what if he wasn't human? And what if he wasn't just 18?
As you search for your own answers, Akaashi doesn't make it easy for you to channel your common sense. After all, a rare blood type only meant danger—especially for a handsome predator with feral eyes.
Warnings: unrequited love, one-sided crush, slight angst, pining, mentions of blood, blood-drinking, vampire akaashi, rare blooded reader, haikyuu manga spoilers???, fluff
Akaashi Keiji had never accepted a confession in high school.
Yet.
You wondered if your confession would make any change since even after two years, he's been almost nonchalant about the girls and boys who go over to him and confess their feelings. He's said no to each of them, albeit not coldly, but he said no nonetheless. Therefore, a part of you wondered why your confession would be any different. Even if it wasn't different, even if he was going to say no to you (though a small part of your brain wanted him to maybe give you a chance, but it's Akaashi, so everyone wishes for that), even if the odds were against you, you'd made up your mind.
Today, after school hours, before his practice would begin, you'd go over to him and tell him you liked him.
The plan was simple: You would walk over to the boy, he was your classmate after all, and you would tug on his sleeve, bat your eyelashes at him even though it didn't increase how cute you could look in his eyes, and you'll tell him. Your heart was already prepared for a no, but you knew that even though you were prepared, you were going to be crushed; and if it meant that Akaashi was the one breaking your heart, then so be it.
It wasn't because he was good-looking, after all. Your intense feelings for him rose out of actually knowing him a little bit. Sure, you were not friends, but you got to sit beside him last year for a semester, and now in your third year, even though both of you were on the opposite sides of the classroom, you were thrilled even to be in the same classroom again. He was hard-working, dedicated, and the mere fact that he was the sole support for the entire team, no the entire school, after the loss to Ichibayashi in the finals last year, it moved you to no end. You entered school feeling quite confident with yourself, but upon seeing Akaashi inside the classroom, sitting and reading a book, it made your heart combust.
He turned to you on your entrance and nodded once before offering a kind, courteous smile, which you forced yourself not to overthink about.
"Good morning, Akaashi-kun."
Your heart was pounding and your eyes were wide, but thankfully, Akaashi couldn't see you since you'd walked over to your desk, which was two desks behind his. Letting out a breath, you stared at the back of his head as thoughts overrode your mind. You wondered if you had to let him know right now that you wanted to speak to him, but with the way your heart was pounding, you weren't sure if you could get multiple words across without stammering.
But, I have to!
"Akaashi-kun?" He turned to you a second later, blinking inquisitively, while you felt your heart rate gradually skyrocket. "I... After school, can you... Can you wait for me?"
Okay, that wasn't bad. That wasn't bad at all.
"Is there something you want to tell me, (s/n)-san?"
You nodded, feeling the air build in your lungs. No one told me it'd be this hard, you wanted to shut your eyes and run away from there, but you were already too deep in this situation, there was no backing out now.
"It'll just take a few minutes."
Akaashi smiled at you before nodded, "Sure."
He turned away after that, getting back to the book he was reading. Conversing with him was just too difficult, and if this was the case before you confessed, how was it going to feel like when you were going to do it later? Not wanting to overthink before the event even happened, you forced yourself with other activities like doodling or even finishing leftover homework that you needed to complete. You and Akaashi were both in a college preparatory class, which meant that the burden of homework constantly loomed over you, and there was never really a 'completed' scenario.
Right when the bell for lunch rang, you stood up first before picking up your books, not realizing the edge of the book had extended past your desk, therefore while retrieving your hand, you knocked your nail against the edge of the desk, earning yourself a nice small cut. You winced rather loudly before shaking your finger, to see a small trickle of blood leak out of the corner of your nail. Your friend, Mamoru Sora, chuckled before shaking his head and quickly reached into his bag to look for a band-aid.
"Do you have a band-aid?" You asked, sucking your finger, but suddenly froze to your spot when you felt feral eyes on you.
It was the same feeling you'd get when walking back from school when it was a tad bit too late in the evening. When a person's eyes lingered on you for a moment longer that it escalated from being genuine curiosity to apparent danger, but to feel this feeling inside a classroom confused you. Your eyes trailed from Sora to search for where this bloodlust was coming from, before landing on Akaashi's wide blue eyes, and his jaw slightly ajar at the mere sight of you. Your heart skipped a beat at the way he was looking at you, as if you were the only one he could see, before he realized what he was doing and turned away.
You couldn't understand why he looked at you like that; your gaze fell back to your little wound and you wondered if he had heard you wince. Was that concern? No, it looked a lot more like he was surprised you were in the classroom at all, and even if that look did feel strange, it came from Akaashi, an object of your desire, so you could easily brush it off. However, the thought lingered in the back of your mind—unable to entirely forget the way Akaashi's blue eyes had fixed themselves on you.
You couldn't really find a band-aid, and while you knew going to the infirmary for something as small as this would only waste your time, you ignored it. You could barely feel the little cut now, and you knew it was eventually going to dry on its own. However, everywhere you went, you felt eyes on you; and while you knew it was too forward of you to think Akaashi might actually be interested in you, you couldn't forget the feeling his gaze had given you, and of how that feeling lingered all through the day.
When the final school bell rang, you noticed Akaashi quickly leave the classroom before you felt your eyes widen and you stood up right away. Your heart fell at the way he just up and left, but maybe something had happened? Turning to Sora, who shot you a confused look, you shrugged before turning to follow after Akaashi.
"You told me you'd tell him, right?" Sora asked, with a grin, "Then go and tell him."
You smiled back before leaving the classroom, trailing after the boy of your dreams. Surely, you weren't in love with Akaashi, but the feelings you had for him were quite strong. While you couldn't hold a casual conversation with the boy, you knew that with time, and after getting to know him when given the chance, you could show him who you truly were.
However, for that to even begin to happen, you had to find Akaashi but you couldn't. You narrowed your eyes, wondering where he had suddenly run off to, but you were more than positive that he hadn't run toward the gym. Even so, your legs carried you over to the gym before noticing that he wasn't there either. Did he leave to avoid talking to me? Your heart dropped at the thought, but he wouldn't do that, right? Akaashi-kun isn't the sort to do something like that.
But, if you couldn't find him, what other thoughts were you supposed to have?
With the way you walked back to class, you could feel how heavy your feet had suddenly become. It was as if you had gained 10 extra pounds, all just on your feet. You weren't the sort to cry, but you knew that being rejected would have hurt you less.
Sora took you home that evening and gave you a soft hug before apologizing. Right before he rushed off home, you once again felt eyes on you, which you basically ignored and went straight into your room. Maybe, Akaashi-kun found out that I wanted to confess to him? You thought, knowing that it was a possibility. Maybe, he's just too tired of all the confessions he's been receiving, and he just... didn't want to take it anymore?
While these thoughts were alright, when night hit, your thoughts turned dark. You began questioning yourself, maybe it was because it was you that Akaashi rushed away like that. Maybe, he had realized that he made a mistake of accepting to meet you that he gave you such a nasty look during lunch. Maybe, Akaashi just didn't like you, even if you did admire him in secret. Admiring Akaashi in Fukurodani wasn't really a secret, if you were being honest, since a lot of people admired him relentlessly, behind his back and in front of his face.
Just as you felt your eyelids get heavier that night, that feeling came up again. Your eyes shot open as your heart rate accelerated, you shot up from your bed before walking over to your window and looking outside, wondering if there was someone there below. You narrowed your eyes before shaking your head, there's no way there could be anyone there. It's close to 1 a.m., while you were trying to be rational, you couldn't shake off the feeling that someone was indeed watching you. Maybe, I'm just being paranoid because I got dumped, you pouted before heading back to pet, pressing your hand to the bed as you got on, before wincing slightly at the wound you had received earlier that afternoon. Your eyes lingered on the small cut that suddenly reminded you of the way Akaashi had looked at you; and a part of you let yourself believe there was some sort of worry in his eyes before you fell asleep.
The next day, Akaashi didn't turn up.
You walked into class and noticed that his desk was empty and that he wasn't even in school. Even as classes began, Akaashi didn't turn up and strangely, the teacher didn't call out his name either. You turned to Sora before frowning a bit, as he shrugged. He handed you a note: Maybe he's sick and that's why he ran away.
Right, you thought, feeling your heart drop, Maybe that's why he left in such a hurry? He's not the type to leave someone hanging unless there's a solid reason to do so, right?
Him not coming to school that day filled your heart with the joy it had missed the day before and brought back your desire to confess to the dark-haired heartthrob once more. As you could feel the hope settle at the bottom of your stomach, you also felt strangely cautious because the image of Akaashi's intense gaze rippled in your mind. Not only could you not take your mind off it, but you could also see it each time you closed your eyes; simply because it was just so out of character for Akaashi to look so confused and surprised in the first place.
"(s/n)-san?" Your homeroom teacher announced at the end of the class, "Can you take over for Miyamizu-san today? She's ill and won't be able to clean the board and the classroom. Mamoru-san can help you."
You grinned turning to Mamoru-san, also known as Sora, and he scoffed. Cleaning duties always irked him, but you, on the other hand, enjoyed them. Cleaning was a way you could relax and as therapeutic as it felt, you also enjoyed throwing out dirt every time you saw it. As soon as school ended, you grabbed Sora by his elbow before giggling toward the janitor's closet. As much as he hated cleaning duty, Sora would accompany you to the end of the earth, so this was nothing. You've known Sora all your life, to be precise, having him as a best friend kept you sane on days when rain poured down a bit too hard.
"Do you want Akaashi's phone number?" Sora asked, smirking at you.
You blushed before scoffing, "If he didn't give it to me, then no. I don't want it. It'll be so weird."
"Not really, I think he got to know you're confessing so he just up and left. Because," You cocked an eyebrow at his words, "Because he secretly likes you and is damn shy."
"Shut up, Sora." You laughed before brushing the floor with the broom.
Once cleaning duties were done, Sora patted you on the back before showing you his phone. Your eyes narrowed before pouting at him, knowing he couldn't accompany you home this time.
"Can't you just... not go?"
"If they subbed me instead of someone else at work, I can't ditch. Sorry, this is about money and I can't deny how much it tempts me, (y/n)."
You groaned before waving at your best friend, before turning to the shoe lockers. You swapped to your outdoor shoes before skipping outside, enjoying the evening weather. You were never really a morning person since there was something so ethereal about the evenings. The sky would turn into multiple shades of color that you can't readily find in a palette and it's just the day kicking back and relaxing for throwing a strong morning at you. Everything, with its mellowness, calmed you in the evenings. As you watched the sunset, you noticed how the sky welcomed the darkness that was impending, how the dark blue slowly started to blanket over the horizon, and how shades of stars can finally seem visible. The best part of the evenings was how it oozed poetry in the sky, suddenly stopping you in your tracks, making you let out a sigh simply because even the air seemed light and welcoming. You decided to take a detour before heading home, knowing full well that a poem was on its way to you.
You didn't spend too much time writing, but you enjoyed it nonetheless. It wasn't as if you thought you were good, but you enjoyed how it made you feel—the words on paper, staring right back at you with the emotions you had just poured into them, it gave you a looming sense of comfort that you couldn't find even with cleaning.
The city was strangely mellow despite how it wasn't entirely dark. You noticed that it was a rather lazy Thursday evening, the grips of the week were slowly slipping away but it wasn't quite the weekend yet, so you could still see life in the city blossoming in expected places. You knew that taking this route meant you had to take the train home, but that didn't matter; you felt like walking today, and a walk you shall take.
Your parents had asked you to be careful about walking without a mask, so you put on yours as you continued; knowing how weak your immune system was. You caught colds like birds caught fish, and as easy as it was for you to fall sick, you tried your hardest not to. You knew that the doctor had said it had something to do with your blood type, but since you were a child when you had heard from that doctor, you couldn't quite remember what the deal was about. A second later, you felt something nuzzle at your ankle and you froze when you spotted a cat—a tabby nonetheless—rubbing itself around your leg. You wanted to touch it, but you knew you couldn't; your parents had forbidden you from touching any stray animal.
Oh, no, you thought before thinking of how cute the cat looked, It's rubbing itself all over my leg! Unable to withstand how adorable it looked, you slowly reached out your left hand to push it away, before a second later, the cat bore its fangs out and scratched you. You yelped before jerking your hand away, the shock made the cat instantly run away. Your eyes welled up at the sudden impact before noticing trickles of blood ooze out of the newly formed scratches on your hand. Shit, shit, shit, you thought before you felt the anxiety bubble in your chest.
A second later, however, things moved too fast. You were in motion, and before you could scream, what felt like a hand firmly pressed on your mouth, swallowing your shouts. Your back was then pressed to what felt like a wall and you couldn't see anything; the scratch the cat gave you was burning now, but the impact had given you whiplash.
However, what you saw, almost made you want to puke with confusion. You forgot about the scratch, you forgot about how your mask was rendering it close to impossible for you to take deeper breaths because you sure as hell required it.
Akaashi's blue eyes were almost feral as they bore into your eyes, and his mouth was ajar as he gazed at you coldly. You could hear what sounded like a growl from the back of his throat, but you weren't sure if you were simply imagining it.
"What's your blood type, (s/n)-san?"
What's with him? Your heart was pounding now, unable to swallow the way Akaashi's gaze was unwavering. You wanted to scream but his hand was pressed against your mouth, and his other hand had gripped you against the wall. You couldn't believe how much power he had in his arms right then, but some part of you couldn't even process what was even going on.
"(s/n)-san," He almost sounded like the Akaashi you knew, "Please, tell me what blood type you have?"
He slowly released you, hoping you wouldn't scream and you instantly pulled down your mask before breathing in and out heavily. Akaashi waited for you to catch your breath before noticing the tears welled up at the corner of your eyes. You couldn't tell if he was being considerate letting you breathe, or if he was an assailant for having grabbed you unawares the way he did. Your mind was clouding with thoughts, but the question Akaashi asked suddenly made you tilt your head at him.
"W-What?"
"Your blood type, (s/n)-san."
"I-It's...O negative."
"That c-can't be..." He looked confused, almost disillusioned. "It didn't smell like O negative, even though it is quite rare."
"A-Akaashi-san?"
He looked at you now and his eyes widened at how close his face was to yours, moving back a few inches. He looked almost apologetic to have put you in such a situation, and while he knew his impulsive actions were going to make him regret them later on, he couldn't help it. His apparent confusion over your blood group, over how intoxicating you smelled, over how he had almost lost control—no, he couldn't recall that feeling. It was terrifying.
"I truly am very sorry for this," Akaashi almost sighed, "I shouldn't have alerted you this way."
He pulled back almost hesitantly, letting you go. However, you stood there, confusion plastered all over your face at the way he stood—almost reluctant to let you go, almost as if it was physically hurting him to be standing in front of you. You slowly reached out, using the same hand that the cat had scratched you on, before noticing him flinch visibly. You paused in midair, before drawing back your hand.
"I... I don't understand, Akaashi-kun, what's... why did you need to know my blood type?"
He didn't answer, but merely gave you a look that made it seem like he regretted even being born. There was something devastatingly alluring about Akaashi right then that twisted your heart into a knot, you couldn't understand why he seemed so ashamed, especially when he had actually not done anything wrong. Had he done something wrong? It was a second later did his words register in your head, and your eyes begin to widen slowly.
"What did you mean by... 'smell like O negative'?"
"Exactly what it sounds like, (s/n)-san," He straightened up, eyes glancing back at the new wound on your left hand. "You are not an O negative."
"I am, though," You argued, eyes narrowing, "I should know."
"Then why are you..." Akaashi bit his tongue before changing his words, "There's something more."
You just looked at him. Every word that spilled from his mouth confused you, scared you and simultaneously, drew you in. You wanted to know what got him so intrigued and confused at the same time—and the feral look in his eye when he had first grabbed you resembled the very same feral look he had given you back in class. And it was right after you had cut your finger.
Right after your blood touched the air, Akaashi had reacted rather peculiarly.
You almost gasped before pressing your back against the wall, desperately wanting to be away from him. No one would believe you, there was no way this was even real. Akaashi didn't seem the type to prank someone, but this seemed just like an elaborate prank right then. Your eyes widened in absolute horror at the realization that perhaps he, the boy of your dreams, was not human.
That perhaps he, Akaashi Keiji, was a blood-sucking vampire.
He looked at you now and immediately caught the realization in your pupils. He pulled back, despite how painful it looked, and your heart wrenched in a weird sort of betrayal.
"You... You're a... You're a vampire—"
"I'm sorry to reveal this fact to you this way, (s/n)-san," Akaashi said, biting his tongue, "I never intended on telling anyone, in fact."
"What changed?"
You still pressed yourself against the wall, fearing him, but even fearing him made you feel terrible. This was someone you liked with all your heart, yet, watching him stand a few feet away from you the way he was, hurt you more than you knew.
"Your blood," Akaashi said, now looking into your eye again, "I almost lost control in class yesterday because of it. I couldn't come to school today because the scent of your blood evoked my appetite."
"You're joking... This can't be real... You're lying..." You said in absolute disbelief, and Akaashi merely watched you.
"If your injury was any deeper, I... I don't know if I could hold back."
You pressed your lips together before letting out a shaky breath. You could feel your heart pounding heavily now, and you moved back just a bit before bolting out of there. You couldn't look at him, you couldn't bring yourself to even register this new information you had received. Your heart was aching and your mind was screaming—you didn't know if you had feelings for him, you didn't know if you now despised him for lying not just to you but to literally everyone around him, and you didn't know if you had it in you to be a vampire sympathizer.
You didn't believe in vampires until Akaashi cornered you in that alley, so you knew for sure that you would need some time to process this.
As soon as you reached home, your mother instantly saw the scratch on your hand and your distraught expression before comforting you and cleaning the wound instantly—her understanding was that you looked scared to death because of the wound you had received, which made sense since you fell sick too easily. However, Akaashi's words kept ringing in your head, it pushed and pulled your mind, and the words exited your mouth before you could even comprehend that you were speaking.
"What's my blood type, mom?"
Your mother chuckled before focusing on nowhere but your scratch, "You've got the golden blood, sweetie."
Golden blood? "What's..." You were sure you were having a panic attack, "What's... Why didn't I know this?"
"You were really young when the doctors told us, and he also told us that your rare blood group can weaken your immune system, which is why we stress so much that you wear masks when you're out and this," She gestured to the scratch, "Golden blood is apparently one of the rarest in the world. Less than 50 people have it."
What in the world?
"Does that mean... I've got some sort of problem?"
"Oh, no, no, no. It means you're special, honey. Don't worry."
Special.
That was what you were fearing. Suddenly, you felt eyes on you again and without a second thought, just as your mother finished cleaning your wound, you rushed to your room and slammed the door and locked it. You were breathing heavily now, and you brought a shaky hand up to your chest, feeling fresh tears leaking out of your eyes. You continued to feel like someone was watching you, but now you have a face for that someone. Now, that someone was a vampire that could kill you, a vampire that could perhaps end your life because you were—
Hold on a minute, you thought before feeling your breath get stuck in your throat, He could have killed me. He could have...
He could have definitely killed me if he wanted me dead.
Strangely your mind begged for you to give Akaashi a chance. For two years, he was a simple student, struggling with grades, playing Volleyball, being a best friend to one of the school's biggest sweethearts, Bokuto-san, and not once had you ever seen him react like a feral animal the way he had today. You had also just learned that you had the rarest blood type in the world, with less than 50 people having said blood type, which... which could have been a reason for Akaashi snapping, after all. But, you wondered if these thoughts only sprung up because of your affection for him, but didn't Akaashi's decency deserve it by itself?
What should I do? You thought before tossing and turning in your bed, feeling strange and uncharacteristically uncomfortable. You felt an overwhelming desire to see him, an overwhelming need to have him explain what his motives were, and if he was a vampire then what was he doing in school?
You got out of bed and walked over to the window, staring out without a single qualm. You wanted to see Akaashi because a part of you felt guilty for running away like that; for leaving him behind when he looked so strangely in pain. Your eyes graze the scratch on your left hand and instantly recalled the way Akaashi's eyes looked as they bore into yours, and your heart skipped a beat.
Could you still like him even if he was a vampire?

[CN] Gavin’s Ski Date (Eng Translation)
🍒 Warning: This post contains detailed spoilers for a date which has not been released in English servers! 🍒
How could I possibly ignore it when you put “Gavin” and “spicy” in the same paragraph 😉
The date begins with MC and Gavin heading to a Snow Mountain Resort by car over the holidays.
I turn the camera towards Gavin and see his smiling profile on the display screen.
MC: You’ve been driving for so long. Are you very tired? You’ve worked hard.
Gavin: It isn’t hard work to be your personal chauffeur.
His eyes not leaving the road in front, his right hand reaches out to hold mine. His warm palm wraps around my fingers.
Gavin: Are you cold?
I smile and shake my head, but he still pulls my hand over to his lips gently and exhales on it.
His warm breaths encase my fingertips, and even my heart starts to feel a little numb.
MC: I’m going to put this portion into the vlog, or make a separate compilation of Officer Bai’s heartwarming moments.
Gavin: Sure, I’d also like to see it.
Gavin lets out a laugh as he drives into the scenic area.
The weather is cold so MC starts coughing.
Gavin: Are you okay?
Gavin hurriedly pats my back, pressing me into his arms.
MC: … [coughs] I’m fine, I just choked on the cold wind. I’ll be fine in a while.
Gavin: …
I hear something that sounds like gentle laughter.
MC: Are you laughing at me…
Gavin: No. It’s the wind’s fault, so I’m apologizing to you on its behalf.
With a smile in his voice, the cold wind blowing against my back stops in an instant, and I can more clearly feel the warmth emanating from his hug.
I can’t help but laugh.
Gavin: Would you like to sit in the resting area? It’d be warmer. I’ll come look for you after renting the equipment.
MC: You’re going alone?
Even without thinking, I immediately shake my head and grab onto his hand.
MC: I want to go with you.
Gavin looks like he wants to say something, but seeing the resoluteness in my gaze, he smiles and relents. We board the cable car towards the mountain.
MC is incredibly happy to be surrounded by the gorgeous scenery.
The most important thing is that I’m holding the hand of the most important person in the world.
Gavin: What’s wrong?
MC: Hm?
Gavin: You keep holding onto my hand. Are you afraid?
MC: [pouting] Don’t look down on me, this isn’t something to be afraid of~
She starts taking pictures of the scenery and shows them to Gavin. Gavin compliments her photography skills:
Even before Gavin finishes speaking, I take his hand into mine once again, holding it very tightly.
Gavin goes silent. The corners of his lips hook into a smile, and he responds by clasping my fingers tightly.
They finally reach the top of the mountain, and MC is glad that she accompanied Gavin because there’s a lot of equipment to carry.
She also starts to feel uneasy after seeing other newbies struggling to walk with their ski boards.
But when she sees Gavin dressed in all his glory, her feelings of unease vanish.
He’s looking down the mountain for the best path to proceed. He finds a suitable one and smiles. MC swoons for a little while.
Gavin starts teaching her the basics of skiing and MC thinks she gets it.
MC: Gavin, can you go down the slope in one breath?
Gavin: Do you want to see it?
MC: Mm, I want to. I’ve never seen you ski before!
Gavin: Easy.
She watches Gavin ski like a professional and enjoying himself heartily. Thinking it looks simple, she decides to start skiing on her own.
Although she starts off having fun, she soon realises that she’s going faster and faster... and that she doesn’t know how to stop. She sees Gavin skiing towards her from the side.
MC: Gavin get out of the way! Hurry and get out of the way ahhh-
As she awaits her tragic demise, she crashes into Gavin’s arms.
Gavin: I’ve got you. Are you okay? Why did you come down on your own?
Sensing the concern in Gavin’s tone, I hurriedly dispel his worries.
MC: The snow is a huge buffer, so it wouldn’t hurt even if I fall.
She turns back to look at the tracks left by the ski boards and realizes she actually skied quite a distance – she can’t even see her starting point. And she’s really proud of herself.
Gavin: Mm, you’re very talented. But it’s very dangerous…
MC promises that she wouldn’t be so reckless again.
Gavin: But it’s okay. You can have as much fun as you want. With me here, you wouldn’t be in any danger.
Gavin asks why MC wanted to try skiing in the first place. Turns out MC noticed how focused Gavin was when watching a skiing competition, and that he even ordered a lot of magazines related to skiing. Minor also mentioned that Gavin was considering buying skiing equipment.
Gavin: But you don’t have to accommodate to my interests… I’ve told you before. To me, no matter what we do, the most important thing is that you’re here. The most important thing is that you’re happy. So you don’t need to do these things.
Seeing Gavin look conflicted and utterly solemn while saying this, MC doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
MC: Of course I need to!
I lift my hand so he can clearly see my most genuine emotions.
MC: Why is it that after all this time, you still haven’t understood...
MC: To me, no matter what we do, the most important thing is that you’re happy. To me, your smile is even more dazzling. Your happiness is equivalent to twice my happiness!
MC: I want to accompany you to do the things you want to do. I want to accomplish your hopes for the future together with you… This is what I want to do, and it’s what brings me most happiness!
Gavin’s conflicted expression turns into surprise. He looks at MC while wanting to avoid her gaze at the same time.
I close the distance between us, stepping through the snow on the snowboards with slight difficulty. I lift my head and give him a light peck on the chin.
Gavin: [quick inhale of breath]
Gavin asks if MC wants to continue with skiing or do anything else.
Gavin: [laughs] I’ve never been happier than right now.
[Note: Included his voice clip in the link above to enhance your reading pleasure with his happy voice]
MC finally gets the hang of skiing after an afternoon of practice, but she’s still having difficulty turning.
Gavin is gorgeous and cool so he unintentionally attracts the attention of a number of people nearby who start cheering and clapping for him. Some people even stop to watch him ski.
Gavin: Are you tired?
MC: Not at all! Gavin, I managed to maintain my balance and haven’t fallen for half an hour!
Gavin: Mm, I’ve seen it. You can make turns already.
MC: …not really. It wasn’t an actual turn, the snowboard just went out of control.
Gavin lets out a laugh and looks towards the dipping sun.
Gavin: It’s no problem, you’ll get it after a few more tries. But it’s getting late, so we should head back.
MC: Mm.
Her legs are numb from the strenuous activity so Gavin casually carries her on his back <3
I’m not a small child, how could I let someone carry me like this…
I lower my head in slight embarrassment and press my head onto the back of Gavin’s neck. My breath mingles with his unique scent. Without realizing it, the corners of my lips lift.
Gavin: What’s making you so happy?
MC: Hm?
Gavin: You’re smiling.
MC: I’m not! You can’t even see me…
Gavin: I can feel it.
MC: You’re smiling too, aren’t you? Even though I can’t see it, I can feel it.
Gavin: [laughs] Mm.
They finally reach the car.
As though it’s a natural thing, Sweetheart Gavin removes her snow boots and sweat-drenched socks before taking out new ones from his bag. MC is touched by how prepared he is.
MC: Gavin, your hands are very cold.
Gavin: Sorry, I…
While he’s speaking, I’ve already reached out to take both his hands in mine, bringing them into my arms.
My slender fingers and small palms obviously cannot cover his large hands entirely.
MC: Even though my hands are small, I can still warm you up.
Gavin doesn’t say a word, but he gives me a nice smile.
I rub his hands gently with my fingers. He leans forward, tugging on his cotton coat to cover us both.
MC: You’re not cold?
Gavin: I’m fine.
Just then, I hear the sound of a growling stomach.
Gavin: …we should head back.
I bury my head in his shoulder and let out a laugh, then take my bag from the seat. Under Gavin’s stare, I retrieve a thermal lunchbox.
The lunchbox contains Yuxiang shredded pork and stir-fried chicken gizzard. She also takes out a thermal flask with hot ginger tea.
Gavin: Why didn’t I… know you prepared these?
MC: I prepared it while you were renting the car. I can’t always let you be the only one busying yourself. Try it? I specially asked the chef to follow your favourite tastes, even though they are pretty homely…
I take out a pair of chopsticks from the lunchbox. After picking up some dishes with the chopsticks, I bring them to Gavin’s mouth. He chews for a while before revealing an unexpected expression:
Gavin: It’s delicious.
Hearing such a satisfactory answer, I hand the lunchbox over to him so he can concentrate on eating. While doing so, I retrieve a travel journal from my bag.
After finding a comfortable position to lean against Gavin, I start planning for the remainder of our trip.
MC: Day 3, skiing, done! This way, we can spend the next two days viewing the scenery~
If the weather remains this good, the view of the Grand Canyon would definitely be amazing.
Gavin turns his head to look at the travel journal, then feeds me a piece of chicken gizzard.
Gavin: The Grand Canyon… was where I wanted to go. If you want to go to the town to walk around or to shop, it’s fine as well.
MC: Since you want to go, of course we’d go – sssss, it’s so spicy!
Gavin: Is it very spicy?
I nod, sticking out my tongue and gulping a few breaths, wanting to relieve the pain from the stimulation caused by the spiciness.
Gavin turns and leans towards me, his breath gradually coming closer until my cheeks feel their warmth.
His rough fingertips touch my lips, which have become slightly reddened from the spice. In a second, I can’t tell what is stimulating my senses...
I can only feel the weightlessness caused by my consciousness sinking along with the darkness around me.
After a brief rub, he chuckles against my lips.
Gavin: Is it still spicy?
In the dark space, I can feel the warmth of his breaths. I shake my head.
His fingertips brush my lips lightly, and he lifts the long hair that had blocked my vision.
Gavin: MC, you’re really not giving me a chance to accommodate to your wishes?
MC: [blushing] Not even one. You’re always accommodating to what I want. It’s so overbearing.
The sky has turned dark. I hear every single one of Gavin’s breaths, and feel their warmth on my cheek and the side of my neck.
He holds me in an embrace, and his low voice is mixed with his warmth and smile.
Gavin: Then I will make a correction now. Cancel our original plans for tonight... from this moment onwards, follow all of my commands.

Nathan/Abigail if you wanna?
Ultimate Ship Meme [Open]
Oh of course!!! Thanks for asking!! :D
General:
Rate the Ship - Awful | Ew | No pics pls | I’m not comfortable | Alright | I like it! | Got Pics? | Let’s do it! | Why is this not getting more attention?! | The OTP to rule all other OTPs
How long will they last? - Probably an incredibly long time, by then they would have both been able to overcome everything and become incredibly close as a result. Nathan probably ended up maturing and genuinely wanted to be a good boyfriend w
How quickly did/will they fall in love? - I don’t think there’s really much room to put an opinion here as it’s pretty much confirmed Nathan fell for her at first sight while Abigail was more of a gradual thing.
How was their first kiss? - They had their first kiss at the dethsub, right? Was kinda hot. (pun intended)
Wedding:
Who proposed? - Nathan-though poor thing was so incredibly nervous he probably nearly lost the ring during the Light Parade in Disney World (Because he would, of course, propose in Disney World; he has class-)
Who is the best man/men? - Nathan would obviously choose Pickles as his best man, hands down.
Who is the braid’s maid(s)? - Abigail would have probably picked any off-screen friends she had!
Who did the most planning? - They hired a wedding planner because who wants to stress about that?
Who stressed the most? - Nathan-because he genuinely wants everything to be perfect and is afraid that if the wedding fails than that means his love life is doomed
How fancy was the ceremony? - Back of a pickup truck | 2 | 3 | 4 | Normal Church Wedding | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Kate and William wish they were this big.
Who was specifically not invited to the wedding? - Rockso (Magnus too if you go by the headcanon he lived)
Sex:
Who is on top? - Abigail-it’s a fem-dom/sub-male relationship you can’t tell me otherwise-
Who is the one to instigate things? - I think it kinda depends? Probably both would on their own separate times/occasions
How healthy is their sex life? - Barely touch themselves let alone each other | 2 | 3 | 4 | Once a couple weeks, nothing overboard | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | They are humping each other on the couch right now
How kinky are they? - Straight missionary with the lights off | 2 | 3 | 4 | Might try some butt stuff and toys | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Don’t go into the sex dungeon without a horse’s head
How long do they normally last? - I think it depends on what they plan on actually doing, whether it’s something entirely new or something that’s comfortable for both of them.
Do they make sure each person gets an equal amount of orgasms? - definitely! Even if Nathan is the sub in the relationship, he just wants her to be happy so he does his best and Abigail wants the same for him too even if she does tease him more than what’s expected.
How rough are they in bed? - Softer than a butterfly on the back of a bunny | 2 | 3 | 4 | The bed’s shaking and squeaking every time | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Their dirty talk is so vulgar it’d make Dwayne Johnson blush. Also, the wall’s so weak it could collapse the next time they do it.
How much cuddling/snuggling do they do? - No touching after sex | 2 | 3 | 4 | A little spooning at night, or on the couch, but not in public | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | They snuggle and kiss more often than a teen couple on their fifth date to a pillow factory. (It’s Nathan that takes up more of this-he’s just a big ol’ teddy bear-)
Children:
How many children will they have naturally? - Probably 1-2
How many children will they adopt? - If they can’t conceive, probably 1-2
Who gets stuck with the most diapers? - Nathan; I can see him being more of a stay-at-home dad so he’d be unfortunately stuck with that (he probably asked to adopt an older kid just to avoid doing that all over again when they wanted more kids-)
Who is the stricter parent? - Abigail definitely is the stricter parent and runs a tight ship but she does at least plan at least once a week family outings which is mainly Disney World or a park which is a nice way for everyone to spend time together.
Who stops the kid(s) from doing dangerous stunts after school? - Abigail
Who remembers to pack the lunch(es)? - Nathan
Who is the more loved parent? - I’d say they’re both loved equally for different reasons-
Who is more likely to attend the PTA meetings? They tried to go together, got banned before the first meeting even ended. Apparently, people don’t think having a battle of the bands via hovercrafts is ‘safe’. Lame.
Who cried the most at graduation? - Nathan
Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law? - Charles
Cooking:
Who does the most cooking? - Nathan; he’s surprisingly a great cook since his mother taught him and he kind of just went from there!
Who is the pickiest in their food choice? - Nathan; there are some food textures/flavors that he just simply doesn’t want to eat at all.
Who does the grocery shopping? - Abigail
How often do they bake desserts? - They probably don’t have much time or desire to bake desserts, either ask Pickles to make them something or use a pre-made cake/ cake mix like heathens.
Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater? - I’d say they’d do both? Nathan probably is a bit harder to cook for considering how he doesn’t like certain textures for food, including how meat is prepared so probably anything with vegetables or soft textures is used more often to prepare quick meals.
Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner? - Nathan
Who is more likely to suggest going out? - Abigail; definitely more active so she’d be more into actually going outside whereas Nathan is totally fine with just staying inside and watching movies.
Who is more likely to burn the house down accidentally while cooking? - Nathan-sometimes if he has a really good song idea, he’ll just write it down and then end up forgetting about what he was doing earlier-it happens
Chores:
Who cleans the room? - Nathan (reluctantly)
Who is really against chores? - Nathan
Who cleans up after the pets? - Nathan
Who is more likely to sweep everything under the rug? - Nathan
Who stresses the most when guests are coming over? - Abigail
Who found a dollar between the couch cushions while cleaning? - Nathan
Misc:
Who takes the longer showers/baths? - Abigail
Who takes the dog out for a walk? - Dog? I’m positive you mean pet alligator. And it’s Nathan definitely.
How often do they decorate the room/house for the holidays? - They do it for only the major holidays like Christmas and Halloween. Halloween is completely decked out and they’re definitely known as that couple with a 100ft GhostBusters statue or something
What are their goals for the relationship? - They both just wanna make each other happy and honestly live their best lives. Nathan just wants Abigail to know she’s safe around him and that he’ll definitely put on his old battle gear and fight for her to the ends of the earth this time. Abigail wants Nathan to know she too would want to protect him and let him know that he’s definitely smarter than he thinks he is, and he’s doing so wonderful as a boyfriend/husband and doesn’t need to shower her with gifts because she already knows.
Who is most likely to sleep till noon? - Surprisingly, Abigail. When she has her days off and doesn’t need to work, she’s definitely sleeping longer. Nathan lets her and prepares her a brunch in bed if so-
Who plays the most pranks? - They honestly don’t do it-it’s just not in their nature; they will fool around most definitely though Nathan’s version of fooling around are rather -brutal- (”Hey we’re stupid rich right?, Why don’t we just-buy the government? For fun?” “Nathan no-”)

Hidden, Not Isolated [C3]
Just staring.
Just staring.
Just staring.
All
Just
Staring.
Continuously staring.
Staring.
Staring.
All staring.
Plop.
Feeling something wet land on his head, the instinctive backlash of slightly tucking his head into his shoulders in wince was barely acknowledged beyond the eternal nighttime atmosphere and unnatural trance that dragged him overwhelmed. After all, all he saw in that sprinkled window was the reflection of a very much despised bloke with cowardice; He may as well just try to treat himself with this curious gaze. He didn’t have a choice. Something paranormal was drawing him to the glass. Something. Just a few more moments and then he would tear away. What was the harm in proceeding to glare into his echo regardless? It was shuteye, right? No one would come out here and see him. No one would call the police. Hell, no one even technically knew he was in the area, right? There was nothing wrong with watching the glass and if it could move.
Plop.
Guess another drop knocked against his skull.
Tap.
And another behind him.
Pff.
And another against his scarf.
Drizzle.
Rainshower.
Not even having enough time to stitch together any sort of opinion of the unmerciful droplets from the scattered fabrics that were his thoughts, what was once a soothing pitter-patter soundtrack gradually yet hastily unveiled its true colours, them being rapid droplets which remained to repeat the tapping racket whilst chilled liquid streamed from the threateningly shaded clouds overhead again...and again...and again...and again...and again...
Well, this was just great.
As he gingerly escorted him and his shivering silhouette back to the nearby alleyway, the fact that the diversion overfalling him had charmed his eyes to tear away from the glass was pushed aside behind the eyes of cowardice alongside a brand-new rainfall brazenly marching his way. The first time the gloomy clouds decided to bombard him with a violent shower, he passed out; Even if a contributing factor were his stress levels, what were the chances he would get sick this time around? Actually, what were the chances he was already sick? It would explain the strange block in his throat and continuous fatigue amidst frequent coughing fits erupting from his scratched throat. No...no, surely he was fine. The universe wouldn't do that to him, right?
God doesn’t play the dice.
Less dice and more empathy.
As he sat onto the newly wet alleyway floor, the storm was already unmercifully descending onto the town, it being significantly heavier than the first rainshower. If that was possible, I mean. On the flipside, what the hell were the odds? What was he, a black cat, bringing bad luck to everything and everyone in proximity? He brought misfortune to everything and everyone in his vicinity previously anyway. Why did he even deserve friends before, in fact? He didn’t. From anything and everything he had done injustice before, why would he deserve companions out of the rubble? Friendship is a privilege, not a right, no? A right is something you deserve to have, no matter the circumstances. A privilege is something you don’t need to have and can live without. Like friends. Or people in general. He could live without them.
He
could
live
without
them.
In fact, he lived without them before. He did it before...! Couldn’t he just do that again and call it quits on his mission? He was initially really adamant about going on his quest but…Nothing worse could come from going back into hidden isolation, after all. He would be just fine. He was just fine…
...right?
Finally releasing an itching cough fit that had been rising in the back of his throat, he questioned if you could measure your own sanity without anybody else's input, no? He had, in fact, remained sane throughout the course of years-...It had been years, right? He really never had any way of recognizing what time it was; any sort of clock or watch went haywire in either of the alternative dimensions. Year by year didn't exactly seem to work parallel in the Overworld as it did past the skipping lines of cross-dimensions.
What time was it anyway?
Obviously, it was night, unmistakable by the darkness imprisoning sun, but how many hours had he burned through after he melted himself asleep exactly? When did he fall asleep? Just his luck. He positively didn’t get to see the sun nearly as many times as he would’ve liked. It just always seemed to be blackness around him. In fact, had he been in more nights than days? He couldn't tell. Why couldn’t he just outlive the teasing sun and instinctively doze away from the moon of mystery?
How long would the night last?
To be honest, if this town was just “so nice,” wouldn’t there be any sort of way to measure the passage of time outside? Has that never been a problem for others previously? Literally shivering in his boots, beyond the blurred haze of dim colours, his disoriented mind dragged his feet from the ground and ran away.
He ran away from his problems, I mean.
Yet again.
Evident by him tucking his knees into his chest, he geared up for the storm approaching by protectively enveloping his arms around his legs whilst the cold wind patrolling the night whirled around the atmosphere. If you think about it, even the worst of fiction has a happy ending, so his story would eventually be met with a peaceful conclusion if he just waited long enough. Again, it’s all about perseverance. Just keep waiting, Soren.
Just keep waiting, Soren.
CRASH.
And then,
Soren’s outcry went ignored.
It was submerged with a roar of thunder amidst a bursting screech of sudden illumination ripping apart the celestial sky. His instinctive flinch of violent startlement was discarded and only mimicked past another CRASH warningly breaking through the relatively quiet atmosphere with its crash echoing in and out of his eardrums, pursued by one more BOOM of thunder presently after.
The storm wasn’t going to be easy.
It’s not much of a secret that people can get used to things without even realizing it. Character development, gradually adapting, taking what you have for granted, all that. He's been through worse; a simple thunderstorm wouldn't be so bad. Besides, it was only...day four? His memory was taken with the wind. Maybe three? Five? Either way, after all he had been through, it’d be pathetic to go down here. Besides, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? He could survive this storm past the hours ticking onwards. And with the hours ticking onwards, a sickeningly familiar pain in his stomach made yet another appearance.
Starvation.
He was still fine.
If he couldn't find food sooner or later, maybe he could just take his chances with more Chorus Fruit--they never even teleported him that far, what was the big deal the first time? Besides, humans can go, he thinks, two weeks without food...? One…? Regardless, he was fine.
Though time moves on regardless of decisions, one thing that was unique to him was his patience that was turning out to be gradually burning to bits. That was evident by him experimentally brushing his eyes upwards naturally with a heart violently thumping amidst its complaints. It had been several hours, the day’s sun would emerge from the horizon. Of course, other humans would also be out and about but that would be his problem when he got there. Also, the rain and thunder definitely didn’t seem to go anywhere, even after an entire night but at least he could begin his journey to fix his sleeping schedule. Though...the sight of anyone at all would mainly be enough to give him panic attacks. But again:
That was the problem when he got there.
His eyes expecting to see a glimpse of sunray cracking the overcast sky was met with a nasty surprise, as he was confronted by yet another BOOM instantaneously that flung him almost staggering over himself and fracturing his skull against the stone concrete if it wasn’t for his elbows to save the day.
What the hell?
It was still night?
CRASH.
Violent flinch.
I mean, he knew the storm was still thundering loud, though he dismissed the crashes in the background, but it had been hours, right? He even made a conscious effort to refrain from looking towards the sky until now, why wouldn’t the universal concept of time just cooperate with one man’s brittle sanity? The clock was ticking on for all he knew to be hours! Sure, he didn’t have any way to verify the position of hands on the clock from his situation on the stormy alleyway but it should’ve been hours, no?
Was he going insane?
He dismissed the topic of insanity previously but was it official now?
Was the paranormal the problem or was he the problem?
CRASH.
Startled, his survival-instinct forced his hands to clasp on the coldly wet pavement and froze in fear for a moment. He learned to maintain a habit of both sound-sensitive and touch-sensitive reflex. Loosening one of his delicate arms, he released his fingers to experimentally wander on auto-pilot to retrieve his scarf’s loose-end from the alleyway floor, for he was beginning to become rather cold with all this wind and rain...or a lot cold with all this wind and rain. He more or less just suffocated himself with his own thoughts for the past...hour? Was he wrong thinking it had been several hours? Or was he just going mental? Regardless, his active daydreaming habit singled him out too many times, this time he aimed to numb himself from reality. It worked. Most of the time anyway. When his cautious fingers did belatedly meet the fabric, Soren automatically recoiled in surprised revulsion, feeling the wetness of the cloth.
His life was far from predictable but was there really an excuse for being this jumpy? It obviously wasn’t a big deal, guess he never really acknowledged his own scarf much. It was just a part of his outfit for so long, he neglected its existence overall. At least not enough to actively take care of it. What’s that phrase that’s like: “when your life’s in danger, you don’t have to be fabulous?” That’s why he rubbed some of the soggy dirt off of his scarf without much hesitation--he never really had a reason to care especially about health, he was used to getting hurt...physically or mentally will stay ambitious. As he wrapped his scarf around his neck, he was warmer. Not warm. But warmer.
Speaking of which,
What he wouldn’t do for a jacket.
But he brushed that off.
He did so many crazy things, why would he be resentful with a thunderstorm? He did so many crazy things, would a downpour really be his snapping point? He did so many crazy things, it would make him hypersensitive to fail to this. There was no need to be such a baby over some water falling from the clouds. Besides, it would be hypercritical to whine over starvation, homelessness, weakness, and whatever else he may be forgetting past the haze of disorient. After all, didn’t he technically do this to himself? If he had never come here, no lightning storms nor human beings would be any cause for concern. In fact, was he just...waiting for something interesting to happen...? Within this alleyway...? Waiting for courage? Waiting for essentials? Waiting for the Grim Reaper? What was he doing? If someone was to actually find him, they would just call the police and be arrested, no? He wouldn’t even have the energy to futilely try and run away upon sight. If anything, his nocturnal sleeping schedule was working in his favour, seeing as nobody would be out and about, chance of noticing him. Not to mention his Anthropophobia would obviously be pulsating uncontrollably if someone witnessed him passing time with heaving his life to hell. So realistically, if someone was to actually see him, help or otherwise, a panic attack would be all he’d be hit wi
CRASH.
- - -
Morning.
That was all he could make out past the fact that, though he didn’t want to, a brand-new day emerged from his rotten karma. Once his eyes instinctively cracked open, they were immediately bombarded with exhaustion beyond the actuality that he had woken from an insomniac slumber. Again.
Also…
It was morning, right?
Then why did the shading of morning seem darker than normal? And why did rather annoying beats of wet seem to just plunge from the sky again and again?
Right.
It was raining.
His thoughts in his mind were hazed. They were blurred.
So much so, then and there, he couldn’t tell the difference between the clouded, light-headed lines of drizzle and downpour.
But it might as well be.
. . .
Splitting his eyelids apart, an orangish hue coated the area amidst overhead dark shadows he knew to be clouds past his fatigue.
Day.
. . .
He
Couldn’t
Tell.
It
Was
Noon,
Right?
. . .
Sunset.
Probably.
. . .
Night.
Rain.
It was night.
And it was raining.
Not drizzling.
Straight up pouring.
He knew that.
He could know that.
Finally.
When he was finally able to keep his eyelids open for more than something of thirty seconds, the sun was already beginning to set upon the horizon, leaving him to wonder when he had fallen asleep...all times. He could hazily recollect making a deliberate decision to take a nap to try to shake off his heavy eyelids the first time around but the others? He didn’t mean to. Worth noting though, I’m talking, within the last two seconds of consciousness the first time around. Maybe that was him being impulsive initially. Maybe that was him looking out for himself initially. Besides, what harm could a short nap do? This. But in the morning, that was all he thought he needed. Sure, he didn’t have any kind of alarm clock obviously, but he thought he could’ve trusted himself.
He couldn’t.
This wasn’t a nap.
He wanted to fix his sleeping schedule since the darkness had a habit of scaring him but he was asleep for all he knew to be hours--that was called being straight up nocturnal. Not to mention the confusion of how many times exactly he fell asleep throughout the day. And woke up. That was the most confusing part. He woke up at the times of...morning and...day...? Sunset and noon…? He was really just guessing. He was really just naming stages of the day. Yeah, that was really what he was doing. He could easily be wrong. It was pointless. Like his presence. Since he had no sure-fire way of recognizing his awakenings, he should really just call it quits on understanding. He would probably just strain himself trying to remember anyway.
And no,
He didn’t find any food that day either.
CRASH.
Even if the thunder was out of sight and he didn’t want to see something that would scare him half to death anyway, the feeling of it hitting somewhere behind him, him not being able to tell how close exactly the flash was to striking him, made it enough to make him violently flinch amidst immediate, uncontrollable trembling.
CRASH.
You know it’s bad when someone who hadn’t even been looking towards the sky knows it was bigger than that first bolt. Scarier than the first bolt.
They say fear is one of the strongest emotions. They say fear can control someone. They say both. Who is “they” and what exactly are the other emotions they’re comparing it to? No idea. But maybe he just couldn’t remember. Fatigue can do that to you...not that he would recall it past the blur. Regardless, that’s why the sky just somehow seemed to use some kind of fear-mongering tactic to get Soren to worriedly stare at the threateningly pessimistic atmosphere, waiting for an invitation from hope whilst his only source of warmth remained to be his scarf...but mainly his forehead.
CRASH.
Was it just him or was the lightning striking more frequently tonight? And was the falling rain heavier tonight? Again, he really couldn’t tell. Was the first storm several nights ago just some kind of warm-up? Was it a warning he should’ve heeded? Probably. Just another thing he was doing wrong. He did everything wrong. Even if it was basic. On the second day, he couldn’t breathe. On the third day, he didn’t know where he was. On the fourth day, he was starving. On the fifth day, a thunderstorm made him pass out from fear. What was going to go wrong this day? His realization that if it wasn’t for him and his idiotic scheme of a plan, he wouldn’t be here, getting drenched in a cloudburst? He wouldn’t be here, wanted? But that didn’t even matter, even if he wasn’t wanted, he couldn’t talk to anyone to save his life. He was a failure. A coward. A liar. Whatever else he might be forgetting. Hell, if he knew what was in store for him years ago, he’d really just rather be born as something of a donkey, living out such uneventfully peaceful days. I mean, you know your life’s gone relatively downhill when you consider the possibility that a mule probably has a better life than you. Maybe he should just retreat to the End after all. Nothing worse could come from withdrawal; he was silently dying and nobody would help him...not that he’d want anyone’s help. He had no clue who he was supposed to be, considering he was replaced. He made so much effort to be something of a “great architect” and it had all been turned to dust with a new generation. Kind of similar to how he did so much to get hither but was he really going to call it quits now? Besides, he was still way too vulnerably weak to traverse the distance to the nearest End Portal. So, all in all, what alternative option did he have? He was still stranded in an alleyway with pointless emotions amidst pointless thoughts.
“Uh...is anybody there?”
His presence was pointless.
“Kill ya’ to say something?”
His existence was pointless.
“Hello~o~o?”
He was pointless.
“Woah!”
And then,
His heart stopped.
The words only barely slipped from his mouth.
“Magnus…?”

I know for questions, you're probably talking about Far From Home, but what about William, the fish guy? What was he like in the early days of character development? How has he changed since you first thought of him? And I guess, same question for the FFH folks. Thanks in advance.
I was honestly so excited to receive this question because I LOVE my boy William! Plus it’s fun to talk about character origin stories.
Buckle up. This is gonna be a long answer.
Up until 2014 my art largely consisted of fanart or fan characters, so I had never produced content that was truly original. During spring of that year, I stumbled upon and quickly become enamored with some original characters on deviantart, many of which were ‘monsters’ (vampires, mermaids, werewolves, etc.). Seeing these characters inspired me to create my own story with characters that catered to my own interests.
William is the first original character I ever created, so he has a special place in my heart. This is my very fist sketch of him! (Sorry for the low quality.)
My initial idea for his story was disorganized and had a lot of missing pieces. In the early days of character development, William was nothing more than a character I liked for his design and personality. I had very little experience with character creation, so I put a lot of myself into him. He was shy and timid and anxious at times, but he also had low self-esteem and didn’t feel like he fit in anywhere. And for good reason — his backstory was one of confusion and grief. Originally, he was an orphan that had been kidnapped by scientists and genetically modified to resemble a fish, all while retaining his previous characteristics and a humanoid shape. The scientists raised him and were training him for some unknown task, of which I never decided before changing the direction of the story entirely.
William and his story turned six during March of this year, and both have changed A LOT since then! He’s no longer a chemist, nor does he have any experience in the sciences. I also gave him some glasses and a nice argyle sweater (which now serves as his classic look, haha), and I’ve decided he’s of Asian descent for reasons explained in a few paragraphs. Not only have I refined his story to be more practical and understandable, but I’ve also given William a purpose, something to pursue. He’s still anxious and feels like he doesn’t belong, but he doesn’t stay that way forever.
I always liked stories about monsters, in the sense that something not-quite-human longs for a place among normal people. Society views these ‘monsters’ as unnatural or potentially dangerous, and yet the monster displays more humanity than the humans themselves. I really want to lean into that idea as I tell William’s story. He may not be your typical monster, but he certainly feels like one. Different, unnatural, out of place. Yet he has a kind heart and a childlike fascination with the world. The road is difficult, but with a bit of help he eventually finds his niche.
Here’s my most recent sketch for comparison, and a lovely depiction of William by my pal HareSoup!
Besides the few changes mentioned above, Will hasn’t changed much design-wise. He has fins in place of ears, gills on his neck, scales scattered across his face/trunk/limbs, and a bit of webbing between his fingers/toes. He can breathe underwater and on land, but his scales and gills have to receive moisture every 1-2 hours or he’ll develop health issues/fall ill.
I don’t remember when I decided I wanted to write a full-length book telling Will’s story, but it’s still a goal of mine! To give you a brief synopsis of the current story, now titled “Fish Out of Water”, it takes place some years after the signing of the Conventional Forces in Europe treaty, which officially brought the Arms Race to an end. During the Arms Race, nuclear weapons were tested without concern for radiation and the effects it had on nearby civilians. In one particular scenario, Asian civilians were evacuated from a small town-turned nuclear test site, but they were not properly protected. The offspring of these civilians developed unnatural deformities/features, such as extra limbs or feathers, as a result of exposure to unhealthy levels of radiation. Worried that this development would mortify the public, the government hid the children in a science facility stationed in a secluded part of the ocean, and they remained within its walls for years. After 28 years, William escapes the facility with the help of his guilt-ridden caretaker and is found unconscious on the shore of a coastal city by marine biologist Martha Collins. The story follows Will as he attempts to shake his government pursuers, but it’s really a story about friendship, self-worth, and discovering what it truly means to be human.
Though unfinished, William’s story is very special to me, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with the world someday :>
As for the Far From Home folks, they came from simple beginnings. It all started with a sketch — this one to be exact!
Back in the spring of 2017, I was stressed and tired and frustrated with school, so I thought it’d be fun to create some new characters. Specifically, comfort characters that fit my favorite tropes. I took a lot of inspiration from the movies “Ernest & Celestine” and “You Are Umasou” when it came to personalities and character dynamics. I loved the idea of a tough, grumpy man who is completely unqualified to be a father stumbling upon and eventually adopting a small, bright-eyed child. There’s just so much you can do with that concept!
I specifically remember sitting in the library at school and just…drawing. I had no initial designs in mind besides something big and sharp, and something small and soft. Two opposites that would become a makeshift family.
I liked the designs enough to digitalize them, reworking aspects of their designs in the process. This was the first ‘accurate’ drawing of Baz and Toko. (I don’t like it too much anymore, but it’s a good color reference!)
I never like leaving a character without a story, so I eventually came up with a couple ideas that adequately described their relationship. In fact, my first idea presented Toko as some sort of child princess and Baz as her assigned bodyguard! That one obviously didn’t stick, but it did allow me to gain a better understanding of what I wanted.
Over time, I did a bit of world building and expanded upon the FFH universe, which opened and closed doors for potential storylines. I realized I wanted to add more characters too, leading to the creation of Gerdie and some other important figures. Gerdie looked quite a bit different than he does now — in fact, he was originally supposed to be an android! I played around with that idea for a while before eventually discarding it.
Here’s my most recent size chart featuring all three main characters!
I honestly never expected Far From Home to expand beyond a simple idea, and yet here I am, thinking I can turn the story into a trilogy someday. There’s still a lot of work to do if I want to reach that goal, but I genuinely enjoy these characters and their dynamic is really fun! They’ve grown very dear to me over the past three years. So I think that’s reason enough to try, anyway.
To give a bit of background on the story itself, it’s set in a fictional version of outer space where humans don’t exist. Intelligent, technologically-advanced aliens from neighboring planets/galaxies have established contact with one another, leading to the gradual formation of an intergalactic government and melting pot mega-society. Due to the unforeseen complexity of this endeavor, strict rules were put in place to regulate the selling/purchasing of certain goods and services, transportation between galaxies, and other related activities. This system is not without complications.
Baz and Gerdie work as intergalactic merchants, but that’s just a cover for their job as smugglers. Together, they travel to different galaxies and exchange goods for the designated currency, as well as deliver illegal substances to specific planets. Baz is the captain and pilots the ship while Gerdie is an engineer and works as the mechanic. They’ve known each other for quite some time when the story first begins. Baz has quite the interesting history, much of which ties into important aspects of the story.
Toko is a young alien who gets separated from her family and wakes up in the storage unit of Baz’s ship, with no memory of how she got there. Baz finds her and suspects she’s a thief, but she quickly explains her predicament and asks that he help reunite her with her family. Baz is reluctant at first and denies her request, only to discover there’s more to her story than he originally thought. Unintentionally dragging Baz into a frightening adventure full of old friends and all-too-familiar foes, Toko eventually inspires a change of heart in the smuggler. The story explores themes like forgiveness, what it really means to be good/bad, and the idea that family isn’t defined by blood.
I know that was a lot, but I hope it was at least somewhat interesting! Thanks for asking about my characters and sticking with me through this <3

Edelgard enjoying a night off (FE: Three Houses Short Fic)
Dorothea and Edelgard hanging out, just gals being pals
(WE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH DOROTHEA IN THE COMMUNITY, then again we DID just start, so I can’t exactly gripe, BUT STILL I WILL FIGHT FOR MY QUEEN)
Saturday Evening...
Edelgard was finally done with her studies in the classroom and neatly put away all the books, and walked out of the Black Eagles’ classroom.
As she was walking out she saw Dorothea looking out at the dorms, looking extremely bored.
“Dorothea?”
“Oh, Edie!”
She sat down near the stairs next to Dorothea, and looked outwards to the dorms with her.
“What’re you doing at this hour?” Dorothea asked. “Class stuff?”
“Yes, I just finished studying for a certification exam for today. The professor thinks it’d be wise for me to become a swordmaster...Though I’m not exactly skilled with it as much as the axe.”
“It’s kinda weird how he thinks. I’m a singer, yet he wants me to become a warlock? I never knew I was good in magic until he had me train out with him and the others!”
They then continued their idle chat about Byleth’s classroom hijinks, and the conversation gradually shifted to plans for that night.
“So, whatcha planning to do now, Edie? Night’s still young.”
“Oh, I’m not quite sure what to do. We have our free day tomorrow, and I’m very sure the professor will be either fishing or sleeping this week. He seems to be tired, so I think this means we can enjoy ourselves for a bit.”
When Edelgard turned back to Dorothea, she slightly regretted what she had stated, seeing a sparkle in her eyes. It was as if Edelgard had unleashed a beast inside her, and that beast was going to make her faff about until early in the morning.
“Is that so? Well, how’s spending the night with Dorothea sound? I’ve been quite lonely ya know.~”
Edelgard laughed, slightly raising her fist to cover her mouth.
“Well, I can think of worst ways to spend the night, and being by myself right now doesn’t sound appealing. I’ll be more than happy to indulge you for tonight.”
“WOOHOO! Finally, some quality time with my Edie!”
She hugged Edelgard, scaring the absolute hell out of her, and making her slightly blush.
“D-Dorothea! You’ll wake someone up!”
“Bah, who cares? It’s our night tonight, now come on, loosen up!”
Their first stop was the dining hall. Though it was only a little past dinner time, there were still a few number of students, more importantly there was still lots of food out. Specifically desserts.
Dorothea grabbed a plateful of random sweets and put it in front of Edelgard.
“Alright, let’s dig in!”
Edelgard suddenly was overtaken by a cold sweat before looking around.
“Um...C-Can we...eat somewhere more private?”
“Oh, wanting me all to yourself, huh?”
Edelgard started pouting, slightly puffing her cheeks which made Dorothea laugh, but quickly cleared her throat.
“Of course, Edie. Come on, I know a good spot!”
They took their absurd amount of sweets to the stairs above the dorms, and sat on a bench.
Edelgard looked around, making sure no one was around before taking a deep breath.
“Um, is something wro-”
Dorothea’s question was answered by Edelgard stuffing a small cake into her mouth, a very big smile taking place afterwards.
“This...is so good!” Edelgard didn’t take the time to respond and continued eating it.
She had a sparkle in her eye as she bit into her cake, it was like seeing a child with their favorite meal.
Dorothea smiled, and began eating her sweets as well. After a few moments of silence, Dorothea heard Edelgard swallow the last of her cake and her voice.
“O-Oh! I’m...so sorry, I didn’t even tell you why-”
“Don’t worry about it, I think I got it. You just don’t want people to judge that the future Empress has about 10 cakes on her plate, right?”
“It’s...It’s only 6!”
Edelgard had the pouty face again, making Dorothea crack up harder.
“Hahaha! Sorry sorry, I’m not laughing at you!”
“Hmph!”
“Don’t worry about it, Edie! Your secret’s safe with me! Besides, a girl needs to treat herself every now and then! Now, eat this one, I’m sure you’d love it!”
“...Thank you...!”
After a blissful dessert, barely anything being said and just enjoying the sweets, they finally finished and thought about what to do next.
Dorothea stretched her arms and turned back to Edelgard.
“Soooo, what now? We aren’t exactly going to sleep anytime soon!”
“I’m...not sure. This is the first time I’ve ever gotten to relax like this in a while. so I’ll just follow your lead.”
“Well then, I know the perfect thing to work up a nice little sweat!~”
“Ah, training is a fine idea. I had no idea you-”
“...Geez, not even a blush-AHEM! Nah, not more work, we’re actively avoiding that tonight! I’m talking about singing our hearts out!”
“Like at the Cathedral?”
“No, no! I meant like opera singing!”
“Oh no.-”
“Come on Edie, I swear it’ll be fun!”
“It’s not like that song you made for me on the spot, right?”
“Actually what I had in mind is a concept foreign to Fodland!”
“Oh?”
“I heard about it from a couple merchants who came from an Eastern land, including the professor and his mercenary days. It’s something called ‘Karaoke’.
“...Carry-oki?”
“I’m not sure how to pronounce it either, but what it is, is that you sing along to a song like you would an opera, but instead of making people cry, it’s to make people laugh! So even if you suck, you can still have a lot of fun!”
“Well...”
Edelgard looked back up to Dorothea, who was jokingly making puppy eyes at her, which made her laugh to the point of snorting.
“Alright alright, you win. So how do we do this Carry-oki?”
After setting up with various spells that Byleth had showed her, they had finally set everything up.
“And the music is going to start up soon! Even though this is a foreign language, we’ll be able to sing it thanks to the spell! The words will show up in front of you, so just lead on! I’ll be back up!”
“O-Okay...Leave it to me, Dorothea!”
“KNOCK EM DEAD, EDIE!”
The spell displayed text in front of them, and began playing music from itself.
And as if it were an otherworldly power, the two felt like they were transported to a whole other world with the power of singing.

When the song ended, their costumes suddenly vanished away, leaving them back at the courtyard.
“Oh, my gosh Edie! THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!”
“T-Thank you...It wasn’t really anything-”
“Anything my butt! You got really into that, AND I LOVE IT! COME ON, WE’RE HAVING ANOTHER GO!”
“D-DOROTHEA WAIT!”
Even though she was protesting, Edelgard was smiling so much, to the point she couldn’t remember when the last time she did so.
When Edelgard finally went to bed, it was face first into a pillow, at 3 am in the morning, with Dorothea snoring on her floor.
She was very grateful that the professor was just fishing that day instead of doing anything else.

Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyuu - The Strongest Team
Stage Grand Prix Vol. 5 Interview with Kosaka Ryoutarou and Miura Kairi
Full interview translation under the Read More! Please do not repost this translation, and please do not repost my scans.
The two of you have been playing Tsukishima Kei and Yamaguchi Tadashi for three years now, but what were your impressions of each other when you first met?
Kairi: Actually, the very first time we met, I didn’t have a very good impression of him at all (laughs). At the auditions, I thought, wow there’s a crazy noisy* guy here. That turned out to be Ryoutarou. Then at our introductory meeting, when it had been a while since we’d last met, I thought, “Uwahh, this guy’s Tsukishima!” And I was a little worried actually as to whether or not he could play him and play him well (laughs).
Ryoutarou: Well, at the place where we had auditions, I saw someone I knew so I was just talking to him was all! Since my acquaintance was auditioning for Yamaguchi too, I had said to him, “It’d be nice if we could both be cast.” But when I saw Kairi’s acting, I had a hunch like, “It’ll be this guy for sure.” He was the only one that had this totally different atmosphere to him, because he was bright while being ordinary.
Kairi: Really? I was actually really nervous though... (laughs).
Ryoutarou: Well I didn’t get that feeling at all! That’s why when I saw you again at the introductory meeting, I thought to myself, “I knew it.”
*Funnily enough, the word Kairi uses to describe Ryoutarou from auditions is うるさい (urusai), the same word Tsukki always uses with Yamaguchi to tell him to shut up or to say that he’s being too loud.
Do you remember if there was anything in particular that helped close the distance between the two of you?
Kairi: I think it was when we happened to be going home together? We were talking about all sorts of things, and I realized that we actually had a lot of things in common.
Ryoutarou: Yeah yeah! We’re the same age, born in the same place. And on top of that, in our school years, we did the same extracurricular activities. I remember when we just instinctively high-fived each other on the roadside (laughs).
Kairi: It was then that we suddenly felt like kindred spirits. In one go, my impression of him had changed to a good one (laughs).
Is that what happened? Well from meeting each other to now three years later, how do you feel about each other now?
Ryoutarou: Kairi might seem like he’s easygoing, but he’s actually really serious and diligent. He’s like that with his acting too, and I think he’s a deeply passionate person.
Kairi: What I think is great about Ryoutarou is, he’s so casual with everyone he meets. I think it’s amazing that he can always say what he thinks to anyone regardless of their experience or their age compared to his. ...I’m kind of embarrassed now (laughs).
Ryoutarou: Also, Kairi gets along with everyone really quickly, and that’s great. It’s easy for the senpai to like him too. It must be nice to have such a likable* face. Since I have a tendency to be seen as cheeky on a first impression, I’m jealous!
Kairi: Well if you’re gonna say that, then I’m jealous of Ryoutarou’s height (laughs).
*The particular word Ryoutarou uses to describe Kairi’s face means a face that inspires others to like him. It has connotations of being charming, attractive, polite, and entertaining.
Talking with you this much, I can really feel how well the two of you get along. Incidentally, when you muster up the full force of everyone in Karasuno, what’s that atmosphere like?
Kairi: It feels exactly like you’re in a school club. Usually we’re really unruly, but we get serious when we need to! When we switch on, it’s like the atmosphere changes completely. We’re good friends but we’re also all rivals, so it’s not just fun, there’s a good sense of competition too.
Ryoutarou: Our leader is definitely Kenta-kun. Since the two of us are the youngest, in the beginning he was constantly guiding us along, but now we’ve gotten to the point where we can even argue with our senpai too.
Where do the two of you stand when compared with the other Karasuno cast members?
Kairi: Ryoutarou’s gradually become the clown, I think (laughs). I’m the opposite, I’m more the one that watches over everyone from a little ways away.
Ryoutarou: It’s true, you do watch over us! But when it’s just the two of us, you’re assertive almost like you’re taking charge, so why?
Kairi: Because at rehearsals we have a mass of clowns (laughs). You’re the main one, but everyone’s always trying to get a laugh out of everyone else!
A mass of clowns (laughs). Miura-san, does Kosaka-san try to make you laugh too?
Kairi: I was sitting in front of the mirror, and Ryoutarou came up behind me and suddenly stripped (laughs). Then he started posing like a bodybuilder! Even though he’s so lanky (laughs). That was pretty hilarious.
Ryoutarou: I remember that (laughs). But Kairi too, even though he’s always so cool before we go up on-stage, patting my shoulder and going, “Let’s break a leg,” the second we get on-stage he becomes all, “Tsukki, Tsukki!” and I think that’s pretty funny.
Kairi: But that’s the part I have to play so there’s no helping that! Don’t lump that in the same category as your nonsense (laughs).
With the upcoming tour, “The Strongest Team,” we turn toward the graduation of the Karasuno cast. Would you please tell us how you feel about that, frankly speaking?
Kairi: Generally speaking, I’m sad. Especially for me and Ryoutarou both, Engeki Haikyuu is our first full-scale play. This production is my starting point and my home. When I think that I’ll be losing a place I’ve always been able to return to... But honestly, it still hasn’t really sunk in.
Ryoutarou: Right now we’re switched over all our emotions to focusing on the play, but when I first heard about our graduation, I honestly couldn’t really believe it... I can’t really imagine how I’ll be once the tour actually ends, but I think that Kairi and I will both cry a lot.
Kairi: Of course we’ll cry! But in actuality, I wonder how it’ll turn out...?
Ryoutarou: But, anyway right now, let’s think about how we need to see “The Strongest Team” through to the end!
Kairi: Ryoutarou, that was a nice answer!
Engeki Haikyuu is a very precious place for the both of you. To the two of you, what sort of presence is Suga Kenta, who’s served as the cast leader for these three years?
Kairi: When I first heard, “Suga Kenta will be auditioning,” I had a lot of mixed feelings. I mean, I had no experience acting, I was basically the same as an amateur, but my competition was the famous Suga Kenta? I’m definitely no match for him, and it was almost frustrating... But when I actually saw Kenta-kun’s acting, those feelings just sort of flew away. Because he just towered over the rest of us. And then when I first met him at the introductory meeting, Kenta-kun was unbelievably modest. Even though I’m younger, he used formal speech when greeting me. When I look back, it’s because Kenta-kun was our cast leader that I could come to love the Karasuno High Volleyball Team as much as I do now.
Ryoutarou: For me, I absolutely just love Kenta-kun. We’re like family, I basically want to live with him, that’s how much. He was someone I’d always admired, so when it was decided that we’d be co-stars, I was crazy happy. With him as our leader, I could trust in him completely. How can I say it, he’s someone with an overwhelming presence. Before the curtain goes up, we always huddle everyone together in a circle, but whenever I hear Kenta-kun’s words, I feel like I gain more confidence, and I can feel that improvement on stage.
Suga-san really is a grand figure, isn’t he? Can you tell us about a time when you’ve gone out somewhere with everyone in Karasuno?
Kairi: After rehearsals we go out to eat a lot. Actually when it come to Karasuno, we don’t actually talk that much about the play at rehearsals. Rather than discussing it, first we just try moving around and acting it out. So after we all get a feel for a scene, we usually compare and adjust things over dinner.
Ryoutarou: Yeah, yeah. Our “Karasuno Parties” are where we really strengthen our relationships and our solidarity. We get pretty fired up talking about the play, but it’s also just fun messing around and laughing together with everyone!
I can just picture what it’s like when everyone gets fired up! Have you ever gone out together for fun just the two of you?
Kairi: Now that you mention it, I don’t think I’ve actually gone out with just Ryoutarou before!
Ryoutarou: We’re basically always together during rehearsals, so I think we’ve never made the effort to go out together just the two of us. But maybe sometime during “The Strongest Team” we’ll go out together for a drink!
Kairi: That’s a good idea, I’m looking forward to it!
And lastly, with regard to the new show, please give us some of your enthusiasm for “The Strongest Team!”
Kairi: Engeki Haikyuu is the show that was my origin as an actor. Although I’m sad about our upcoming graduation, as the culmination of the past three years, we’re definitely going to make an interesting show. Please come see us!
Ryoutarou: Starting with “Summer of Evolution,” and adding “Start of the Giant,” Tsukishima and Yamaguchi have matured in their own ways, and the relationship between them has changed little by little too. That’s why “The Strongest Team,” should be a very special production for Kairi and myself. I want tons of people to come see our majestic figures on-stage!

What’s something about yourself where you can say, “I’m the best!” I don’t really have anything I can really boast about but... I’ve never lost to anyone when it comes to the length of my legs. I have the decisive lead when compared to the other Karasuno cast (laughs). And I’ve tried comparing with other tall cast members on other teams, but I’ve always won!
What’s something that a fellow Engeki Haikyuu cast member has said to you that’s left a lasting impression? It was when our cast leader Suga Kenta said to me, “Ryoutarou, it’s ok to tell us more and more what you’re thinking.” It was like he gave me a big push. At that moment, I felt like I came to understand my role and my place within Karasuno.
A memory from the regional tours? When it’s time for the regional tours, everyone always looks forward to going out to eat. It really does have a training camp atmosphere. We give it our all for every prefecture, of course, but for me the Miyagi tours have left an impression. It’s like the audience’s expectations of us are especially high. So there’s relief when we can get decent applause from them.
A message to your past self when it was announced you’d be cast for the first production: It’s really great, isn’t it?! Congratulations ♡

What’s something about yourself where you can say, “I’m the best!” I’m really positive, so even if I’m depressed, I’ll forget about it after I get a good night’s rest. On the whole, I’m pretty strong mentally. The only time I let it drag on was when I had an unrequited love in middle school (laughs). At Engeki Haikyuu rehearsals, I may be the type to watch over everyone else’s silliness, but really, I’m the type that doesn’t let it get to me even when I slip and fall in front of other people!
What’s something that a fellow Engeki Haikyuu cast member has said to you that’s left a lasting impression? Back during the first show, as a total beginner as an actor, I was honestly cowering. When I did, the Kageyama Tobio from back then, Kimura Tatsunari said this to me: “On-stage, it doesn’t matter how old you are or what career experience you’ve had.” It was thanks to those words that I could always stand on-stage, so I remember it even now.
A memory from the regional tours? When it comes to our regional tours, the atmosphere of the audience changes a little with each place we go, and that’s fun. But our tours in the home of Haikyuu, in Miyagi prefecture, were always very special. There’s pressure, and I always get unnecessarily more nervous there. But the audience always received us so warmly, so it was a joy.
A message to your past self when it was announced you’d be cast for the first production: To the Miura Kairi of three years ago: You were really happy, weren’t you? But stop fist pumping in front of the station!! (laughs)

A3! Event: The Floral Prince Chapter 9 Translation
It’s finally the day of the play! Heads up on the characters: Florence: Muku Broto: Kumon Rose: Yuki Linkle: Kazunari Sunny: Tenma Shine: Misumi
Muku: It’s, it’s finally the day….
Kumon: Y-yes…
Muku: What should I do? I’m just a potato whose sprout has just grown, so there’s a chance I will forget all my lines and costume when I go onstage….
Tenma: That would be amazing if you actually did that.
Izumi: I think that would surely bring laughter to the audience!
Kumon: As for me, I may miss the timing to come on stage, or I may just stay still on the stage for no reason…!
Kazunari: That would be interesting in a different sense!
Misumi: I’ll stay still with you~!
Yuki: *sighs*, this negative combi’s delusion is running too wild.
Muku: What, what should we do….
Kumon: What should we do….!
Kazunari: Your anxiousness will blow away once we form a circle!
Tenma: How should we form the circle? Seeing your appearance, you haven’t thought of anything, have you?
Misumi: Muku and Kumon kept discussing about the circle last night, see~.
Yuki: They actually prepared that properly.
Kumon: Hehe.
Kazunari: What kind of circle are we going to form?
Muku: Uhh, it’s not really big….
Because the theme for this play is prince…. We put one hand on our chest and extend the other hand--.
Kumon: Like this!
Kazunari: That’s cool~! How totally prince-y!
Yuki: How embarrassing…
Misumi: Let’s do it~!
Tenma: Roll up your sleeves, Muku, Kumon.
Kumon: Yes! Let’s do this, Muku!
Muku: Yes!
In order to break the princess’ curse, let’s go--!
Summer Troupe: Yeah!
Florence: “Good morning, Lily. You’re beautiful today too. You look like a shining star in the night sky.”
Broto: “Your highness, please give me a break. Both the King and Queen are worried because you’re like this.”
Florence: “They’re worried, you say? What’s wrong?”
Broto: “There isn’t a single moment where you relax--you’re always strolling around places. Furthermore, you have yet to find yourself a wife.”
Florence: “It can’t be helped, you know? There are a lot of beautiful flowers in this world. Well, the most beautiful one is me though.”
Broto: “*sigh*...”
Florence: “Don’t sigh, Broto. You will ruin your pretty face.”
Broto: “I’m getting the creeps just hearing that.”
Florence: “Bugs*!? Where is it!? I’m not good with bugs, you know!”
Broto: “Gosh….”
Izumi: (Just as I thought, those two look a little bit nervous. It’d be nice if they recover….)
Broto: “So where are you planning to go to look for your bride?”
Florence: “I heard there’s a beautiful princess in the East Country. Let’s try going there.”
Rose: “--ugh.”
Florence: “Oh my? You, the young boy over there, what’s wrong?”
Rose: “--.”
Florence: “Oh, no. So you got caught in a beast trap. Hold on a minute.”
“Look, you’re fine now. Your wound is slight, fortunately.”
Rose: “....What’s your name?”
Florence: “I’m Prince Florence from Flower Country. Your eyes are beautiful, huh. They’re vibrant and sparkling, just like the young leaves in May.”
Rose: “What’s with this pervert?”
Broto: “He’s always like this; please don’t mind him.”
Florence: “Young boy, what’s your name?”
Rose: “....Rose.”
Florence: “What a lovely name. I also like roses.”
Rose: “--.”
Florence: “It’s getting dark soon. You should return home quickly.”
Rose: “Where are you going?”
Florence: “We’re in the middle of looking for a bride. We’re going to the East Country to meet the princess there.”
Rose: “I’ll guide you there.”
Florence: “Huh?”
Rose: “I owe you for saving me.”
Florence: “You have a strong sense of reciprocity, huh. Thank you. You’ll help us there.”
“That reminds me, this trap is dangerous. We have to move it somewhere else. It’ll be a pity if miserable little birds get caught in the trap again.”
“Whoah, it’s a bug--! Broto!”
Broto: “I got it, I got it.”
Rose: “....”
Izumi: (I expect no less from Yuki-kun. Playing this kind of cheeky character is his forte. Florence’s narcissism has also turned into humor well.)
(Thanks to their dialogue exchange with Yuki-kun, both Muku-kun and Kumon-kun have relaxed a bit.)
Florence: “So this is the castle of the East Country. It’s really big.”
Linkle: “Not as big as mine, though.”
Florence: “...You are?”
Linkle: “I’m the second prince of Star Country, Linkle.”
Florence: “Oh, I see. I am from Flower Country--.”
Linkle: “Ah, you don’t have to introduce yourself. I won’t remember it, anyway.”
Florence: “Is that so? Well, you won’t forget me once you see my beautiful face anyway. So I have no problem not giving you my name.”
Linkle: “...”
Shine: “What an overconfident prince.”
Florence: “Who are you?”
Shine: “I’m the first prince of Moon Country, Shine.”
Florence: “Nice to meet you. I’m Florence from Flower Country.”
Sunny: “So you’re from that Flower Country huh, that small country on the region. No wonder there’s a flower blooming on your head.”
Florence: “So are you perhaps the sun? Both the color of your hair and your cloak are dazzling.”
Sunny: “Hmph, that’s obvious. I’m the sun prince, after all. My name is Sunny. Remember it.”
Rose: “....The princes are all weird.”
Broto: “I think so too.”
Izumi: (Kazunari-kun, Tenma-kun and Misumi-kun--everyone is actively leading Muku-kun and Kumon-kun.)
(Thanks to the dialogue exchange that they had with everyone, it seems like those two are finally back to their usual condition.)
King of East Country: “I’d like to apologize to everyone who has come all the way here, but the princess isn’t able to be present at the moment due to some issues.”
Linkle: “Huh?”
Shine: “What’s the meaning of this?”
Florence: “I wonder if the princess is a shy person.”
Sunny: “But isn’t this supposed to be a formal meeting between countries?”
King of East Country: “I am sorry. The wicked witch barged into our castle the other day and put a curse on the princess.”
“The princess can’t appear before people as long as she still has the curse on her.”
Linkle: “It can’t be…”
Florence: “Poor her…. She must have been discouraged.”
King of East Prince: “I’m thinking of marrying the princess to whoever can break her curse.”
Florence: “Wha--.”
Sunny: “I see. You need to be quick.”
Linkle: “I’ll break the princess’ curse by all means.”
Shine: “I can’t hand over the princess of such a big country like East Country to someone else…”
Florence: “I will save the princess no matter what!”
Rose: “....”
Izumi: (Muku-kun’s acting has gradually gotten better.)
(He looks stately, and his movement is elegant and beautiful. He uses the advice from Citron-kun and the others.)
(Thanks to Muku-kun’s acting, Prince Florence still looks noble and cool even though he’s a little bit dumb.)
Broto: “So do you have any plans?”
Florence: “Not at all.”
Broto: “....*sigh*”
Rose: “I heard there was something called moondrops in Moon Country that will grant your wish if you drink it.”
Florence: “What? That’s good news. Let’s go search for it right this instant.”
Rose: “I’ll guide you.”
Florence: “Is it all right? You’re sure you don’t have any other stuff to do--.”
Rose: “I’ve come too far to go back.”
Florence: “Thanks. You are a good guy!”
Rose: “...”
Florence: “That’s right. Why don’t you become my retainer?”
Rose: “I refuse.”
Broto: “That’s a wise decision.”
Shine: “Are you looking for the moondrops? You’ll get there faster if you use the path over there.”
Florence: “I see! Thank you.”
Rose: “Hold on. Aren’t you going to look for moondrops too?”
Shine: “I’ve already got it.”
Rose: “....”
Florence: “We should hurry as well!”
Rose: “Ah, wait a minu--.”
Shine: “...I wish you good luck.”
Florence: “Huh? Are there really moondrops in this place?”
Rose: “....He got us. The moon prince was ahead of us.”
Broto: “It feels like he purposely made us take a detour to buy some time.”
Florence: “Huh? Is that so?”
Rose: “You’re way too easy to be deceive.”
Florence: “It can’t be--to think that there’s someone who will trick the beautiful me.”
Rose: “....”
Broto: “....He’s always like this.”
Rose: “It can’t be helped, then. I have another plan. I heard there’s a thing called the stone of the sun in the Sun Country that can grant your wish.”
Florence: “All right. The next destination will be the Sun Country, then.”
“Rose, why are you helping us this much?”
Rose: “That, that is….”
Florence: “I got it! So you’re actually looking for the princess as well. You plan to marry the princess, don’t you?”
Rose: “You must be crazy. I never thought of wanting to marry someone whom I have never met. I’m different from you.”
Florence: “Is that so? I love beautiful things, see. I’m sure the beautiful princess is loved more than anyone.”
“Though, because I’m the most beautiful one, I like myself the most.”
Rose: “...”
Broto: “Shall we go faster?”
Rose: “Yeah.”
Sunny: “Hey, this is a land managed by the royal family. What are you doing here, coming to this land without permission?”
Florence: “We come to look for the stone of the sun.”
Sunny: “Stone of the sun? That kind of thing is mere superstition, you know. How foolish.”
Florence: “But we have to find a way to break the princess’ curse…”
Sunny: “There’s also an option to find a skillful wizard, see; you don’t need to worry.”
Rose: “We won’t know whether or not it’s superstition until we find it.”
Sunny: “I’m the one who will break the princess’ curse. You all can return to your flower garden quickly.”
Florence: “If the will break the princess’ curse, shall we go back?”
Rose: “Why did you accept that so easily? Don’t you want to marry the princess?”
Florence: “Well, it’s true that I want to marry her. But I don’t mind as long as the princess’ curse is broken.”
Rose: “--Do what you want.”
Florence: “Ah, Rose--.”
Broto: “You made him angry.”
Florence: “Hmm, I think I should give it a try and look for it too. I can give the stone of the sun as a present for the princess.”
Sunny: “I’ve told you there’s no such thing here.”
Florence: “Just like what Rose had said, we won’t know until we find it. Can you please let us search for it? We’ll make sure we won’t cause troubles.”
Sunny: “I refuse.”
Florence: “It can’t be…”
Broto: “Your Highness, I think it’s no use discussing this. We should look for it secretly…”
Florence: “We can’t do that. This place is his country, after all.”
Sunny: “Besides, how do you plan to search for it in a place full of stones like this? If you plan to check it one by one, you’ll become an old man before you know it.”
“See, look at this. They’re all the sa--.”
Florence: “Whoaaah!?”
Broto: “It’s shining so brightly!”
Sunny: “This is--.”
Florence: “Is this perhaps the stone of the sun!?”
Broto: “But it has broken into pieces because Prince Sunny threw it to the ground….”
Florence: “Eeeeh!?”
Sunny: “...So it does exist.”
Florence: “Aaah…. Even though we’ve already found it…”
Sunny: “Hm, Hmph. I don’t know anything!”
Florence: “....”
Broto: “Oh my goodness…”
Rose: “See? That’s what you get for naively going along with such things.”

Okamura Minami "20 Questions 20 Answers" Haro Puro Love Talk!
In 2018, we’re having a celebration of the Hello! Project 20th Anniversary (Hello Love). For the members who belong to Hello! Project, their thoughts on the 20th anniversary activities and enthusiasm for 2018, thoughts of an everyday idol, we had a passionate “20 questions 20 answers” talk~ This time its BEYOOOOONDS Okamura Minami!!
Okamura Minami = Born October 20th 2004. Hometown Osaka.
Q1: Tell us the meaning of your name!
It writes as a beautiful wave. It has various meanings but, to say in a word it means Australia. Up until my big sister was 4 years old they lived in Australia, and they returned to Japan when my mother was still pregnant with me. Therefore, I haven’t lived in Australia but, it’s like the meaning packed into it is “I’d like to live in Australia as the 4 of us again”.
Q2: What senior are you aiming towards?
I really love Matsuura Aya-san. She was the reason I came to know about Hello! Project, and the reason why I thought about wanting to join, I respect her. The first MV I saw was “Momoiro Kataomoi”, I came to know her when I was in upper elementary school. I’ve only seen videos of her but, her impact is amazing. I’ve thought, ‘how cute is she!’.
Q3: Who would you want to be reborn as?
Former Angerme’s Tamura Meimi-san. I got into Tamura-san from watching her in the “Marigold” play. She’s really impactful. I haven’t gotten to meet her but, seeing normal Tamura-san in videos she is really cute. But, when she is performing its completely different. Isn’t acting difficult? I want to know her feelings towards acting.
Q4: What are you the best at in Hello! Project?
I don’t think I can lose towards my love towards animals. I have 3 hedgehogs. I came to like animals from the influence of my cousin, they keep about 50 small animals. My future dream was to become a real idol but, after that I also have the dream of moving to Cairns, Australia and making an animal kingdom.
Q5: Tell us something amazing about Hello! Project!
When you speak of Hello! Project its performances. For those performances everyone is undergoing lessons. I’m not there yet but, everyone has a basic foundation of the movement, so I think it’d be nice to do even more amazing things.
Q6: Who would you want to be in a Hello! Project special unit with?
Since I’m from Osaka, I’d want to do it with those from Osaka, Uemura Akari-san, Funaki Musubu-san, Kishimoto Yumeno-san and Akiyama Mao-san. Maybe it’d come to have a comical feeling (laughs).
Q7: Tell us a BEYOOOOONDS song you like!
I love Ame no Mori Kawaumi’s “GIRL ZONE”! It doesn’t have a smiley feeling at all, it’s a song packed with thoughts of living however free without being bound by rules as a girl. Therefore, after singing it my heart is frazzled. Its like my heart is tired. If I can’t do it properly with the girls feelings, I can’t do it well, that is, it’s a song where when I sing it power is necessary.
Q8: What is a Hello! Project song you like?
Matsuura Aya-san’s “Momoiro Kataomoi”. Its cute as the lyrics have peach phrases. It’s not ‘dokidoki’, it’s a cute ‘kyururun’. Matsuura-san sings it easily but, the melody suddenly goes up and down, it suddenly becomes a difficult song to sing. But, I think that sort of thing is Hello! Project-like.
Q9: What is the difference between current and previous Hello! Project?
In the past it was also amazing but, I think the dancing has gradually gotten more amazing. Now there is a Hello! Project Dance Club, everyone can dance of course, even with those who aren’t in the dance club. The skill level is super amazing. It was originally amazing but, as its been gradually inherited, I get the impression that it has been raised further.
Q10: Other than yourself, who would you recommend as an oshi?
Morning Musume ‘19’s Oda Sakura-san. The way she talks is really cute. She talked with me, and she is really kind. She is really a wonderful person. Singing a sexy song, she is packs it with an adult appeal; her performances are amazing. Her voice is different depending on the song. But, when you hear Oda-san’s singing voice you absolutely know its her. I think that’s amazing.
Q11: What do you want us to see most from yourself?
Energy. I’m always laughing. When people see someone laughing, they’ll end up laughing so, I want you to see that. You’ll smile (laughs).
Q12: What is work you want to challenge?
I’m not very skilled at talking but, I want to try radio. Takase Kurumi-chan and Ichioka Reina-chan have gone on to the radio but, I haven’t done it so I want to try it.
Q13: Tell us something amazing about BEYOOOOOND!
Up until now with Hello! Project, we have been given a lot of songs other idols don’t do, I think the performances have a lasting impression. Our roles are decided for each song; each one of us thinks about it when there is free movement, so that our movement matches the roles. Therefore, I want you to pay attention to each of our movements.
Q14: What will you be doing in 20 years?
Like I said, I want to spend time with animals in Cairns!
Q15: Since it’s the 20th anniversary, tell us a secret!
I like pink, so I like girly things. I have and wear things that are girly, I tend to think about if something is girly; I also often think that is a first impression of me. But, inside I’m not girly at all (laughs). I’m pretty mischievous, it feels like I’m a boy (laughs). I’m always chattering, I’m bad at sitting still. I immediately want to run around, I’m ill-mannered.
Q16: What do you want to be able to do after one year?
I just graduated middle school so, I want to become more dependable (laughs). Since, I think it’s sweeter to listen to my own opinion than just comparing the other members thoughts.
Q17: What would you be doing if you weren’t an idol?
Every week, I think I’d go to Hanazono Rugby Field and watch rugby. Mischievously, it feels like I’d return home all muddy. My father played rugby; when I was small whenever I’d play catch ball with him it’d always be a rugby ball. We’d play and tackle on the futon. Since Japan did well last time in the Rugby World Cup, at that time it made me happy as rugby became famous.
Q18: What are you most into right now?
Watching Tamura Meimi-san’s Trump Series plays and, since I was small I’ve loved foreign films, recently I’ve been watching them a lot. Also, I want to be able to speak English. I want to be able to sing to western music, smoothly read thick books in English, to be able to have conversations with natives; I bought a book and have started studying English using my own power. Separate from school. Also, I’ve been listening to western music so my ears will get used to it.
Q19: Who do you get along with in Hello! Project? Tell us about a recent episode! Other than BEYOOOOONDS, I think I get along well with Funaki Musubu-san. Funaki-san taught me about the stage play “Trump”, the first member I hung out with outside of BEYOOOOONDS was her. Since Funaki-san taught me about the Trump Series plays, I’ll inform her “I watched this”. Funaki-san will see it when I write “I saw it” on my blog, so when I meet her in the dressing room corridors she’ll say “You saw it, huh” and we’ll talk.
Q20: What is an idol to you?
I love them! I admire them. I’ve always been saying that I want to be a real idol, although there aren’t any set conditions on what a real idol is. Probably, when I was small I thought to become a real idol, like…there is something above a real idol. It feels like they’re people who are always evolving. With idols, its like they don’t have limitations, so I want to become someone who can do anything.

BECAUSE I’M NOT POPULAR, I’LL READ WATAMOTE: CHAPTER #121
You know, I really should stop assuming that the next chapter is going to be the start of Tomoko’s third year, otherwise I’m gonna start looking like one of those pretentious fans who thinks they know the manga better than the creators.
So after last chapter’s emotional rollercoaster, we follow Tomoko into her spring break where she goes...fishing. Now, I wasn’t expecting a “filler” chapter before Tomoko’s third year, but I can’t complain. We needed a funny, breather chapter of sorts after what went down at the party. I could see other series making a chapter like this and being painfully obvious that they’re dragging the story out, but in Watamote, no chapter is completely devoid of substance. Whether it’s dick pics or fishing, Tomoko will make it entertaining.
Chapter 121: Because I’m Not Popular, I’ll Spent Time with my Dad
Maybe I’m reading a little too much into it, but I do notice a minor difference in Tomoko’s behavior for how she spends her school breaks. Back in her first year, Tomoko would despair about wasting time doing her otaku hobbies, but she was never really bored. Now unless there really is none of that to occupy her time, then the implication here is that interests like manga and anime no longer give her that sense of engagement. Could it be that Tomoko’s interests have begun to wane, or is it simply that she’s learned some degree of moderation where she nows needs other things to give her a change of pace?
I do appreciate Nico Tanigawa giving us subtle hints as to where Tomoko lives in “our” world. I wonder if the precise location of her home, if there is one, is the the same as where the mangaka lives. I imagine it’d be pretty close, if only for storytelling convenience, but obviously they’re not gonna give us anything direct, lest someone takes that as an invitation to go on a Watamote pilgrimage.
I wonder whether Tomoko’s discomfort is from the bait itself, or if it justs looks too difficult for her to do? We do know that Tomoko isn’t all that squeamish, given that she finds things like dead stingrays to be cool, so I think it’s more likely that isn’t confident she can hook the bait since it’s been so long since she last went fishing.
I’m with you, Tomoko. But even if I don’t like fishing myself, I can respect people who do. I’d like to think that activities/sports like fishing and golf, where a lot of the time is spent in anticipation, is something that only appeals to certain kinds of people. Those who enjoy it may appreciate the atmospheric tension, but for those who are eager only for the results, it probably looks monotonous.
That doesn’t surprise me. Tomoko was probably at that age where going fishing was considered a summer highlight. It’s one of the various activities parents often have their kids do to broaden their horizons, and while such things are fun to an extent, they usually become a thing of the past once you’ve settled on your own hobbies. Perhaps I’m projecting my own experiences onto Tomoko, but I’d like to think there’s a bit of truth there.
Twins.
So apparently hooking half-dead fish is something that actually happens? Nasty.
Tomoko as a kid, like many others, probably was blinded by some childlike wonder that blocked the harsher realities in favor of that feeling of accomplishment that comes with catching fish. Now that she’s older, fishing is just another facet of reality she’s become apathetic about. Looking back, the things that Tomoko used to associate with adulthood like coffee shops and cabaret girls probably wouldn’t register on her radar now as they did back then.
That timing seems about right. We know that Tomoki became less excitable at the start of middle school, so that’s probably when he became “too old” for fishing.
At this point, I guess I ought to talk about Tomoko’s dad. Previously, what little we knew about him was restricted to the fact that he has the busy life of a salaryman, and the implication that’s he’s a pretty chill and open-minded guy (the massager incident being the prime example). I do appreciate that while he’s aware about things like gendering, he doesn’t discriminate and has no issues on bringing Tomoko along for a “boy’s hobby” despite her now being a “young woman”. I live in a culture where fishing with your dad is often seen as “father-son quality time”, which is why the activity is usually associated as being something masculine. This could be an instance of the mangaka’s own open-minded views being expressed through Tomoko’s dad, one could say. All in all, I’m glad that for all of Tomoko’s problems, having a dysfunctional family has never been one of them.
You know that feeling you get when you build up a goal so fantastically in your mind, but once you have it, the high wears off almost instantly. We as readers can enjoy the dramatic irony of Tomoko’s response since we’ve seen firsthand how relatively exciting her school life as been as of late. But the big point is that Tomoko’s change in-universe was very gradual. She’s never had to make some grand epiphany about her social life because it happened so seamlessly to the point where it became nothing special, or “normal” for her. And honestly, that’s probably for the best.
That’s something we’ve all noticed, I believe. All those chapters of Tomoko wanting to ditch school come to mind. But looking back, Tomoko distaste for school was mostly due to having an unfulling school life than any dislike for the schoolwork. Though I imagine that the old Tomoko would reason the exact opposite so she wouldn’t have to face the hard truth.
C’mon, Tomoko. Don’t you know parents always talk about their kid’s problems in secret?
Exactly my thoughts. If she were being conscientious about it, Tomoko would skip school if she really could. But after making her new circle of friends, the drudgery of school was no longer a large part of her mindset, and was pushed to the back of her mind when dealing with her new buddies took priority. This was most evident back in chapter 109, where Tomoko admitted she was glad to go to school even when she didn’t really have to. I’m not sure if she’s fully realized it herself, but Tomoko’s mind has come to connect the school environment with her new social life, hence why most of her displeasure towards the former is all but gone.
Tomoko, an Instagram girl? Get real, dad.
She said the “f” word...*wipes away fanboy tear.*
You know what’s great, though? It’s that she said it so casually. Even Yuri had to stammer a bit before she could say the word “friend”. Though, having Yuri say it first probably broke the ice and gave Tomoko the assurance to say it too. Still, it’s nice to hear her speak so confidently about them.
These moments where Tomoko is shown to be acutely aware about her own twisted personality really sheds some light about how she perceives herself. She knows she’s about 50% unlikeable, but where she used to try and “better” herself in the past, she’s now much more unforgiving about this side. Frankly, I find Tomoko much more likeable for accepting herself than those times when she could pass as an oblivious jerk. She’s much more intentional in pulling back her nastiness (though it still slips out at times), and that effort on her part is commendable.
Relatability Rating: 12/10.
So the eyes are genetic after all. You know, if we were shown this panel with no context whatsoever, I’m sure many people would mistake that eye for Tomoki. Tomoko we’d pick out no problem since that hair horn is all we need to identify her.
Remember what I said about Tomoko knowing when to let out her creepier side?
Well there ya go.
But in all seriousness, there’s a lot to take from this sequence. The biggest and most obvious takeaway is that Tomoko feels the need to put on an air of innocence with the photo she sent to Yuu, but with Yuri and Mako, her freakier side is a lot more transparent. Even more so, she just seems a lot happier in the photo she sent to her schoolmates.
Does this mean that Tomoko is actually more comfortable with Yuri and Mako now than she is with Yuu? That’s both sweet and kind of depressing, but I think it needs to be stated that while Tomoko does seem to be more cheerful in the second pic, that doesn’t necessarily translate to her liking her schoolmates more than Yuu. I do admit that Tomoko does appear to drifting away from Yuu, but that alone doesn’t mean she likes Yuu any less than she did before. Keep in mind that Yuu is still her only friend whom she can share in her otaku interests. Perhaps Tomoko is just being more mindful of her, i.e. no longer casually harassing her. As for Yuri and Mako, she’s already built herself up as a weirdo, so there’s no harm in expressing that side of her. Tomoko just plays up different parts of her personality depending on the friend she’s with.
Too bad she didn’t send anything to Komiyama or Yoshida. If she had, I imagine it’d probably be a third pic of her trolling them hard.
Thanks for being patient with my review. I couldn’t wait to get this out, but as expected, boot camp eats up my time. But on the positive side, I feel a lot more engaged when I write these out on my breaks, and that can only make these reactions better in the long run.
Now I know I just said I shouldn’t predict too much about future chapters at the start of this review, but I’m curious to see people’s predictions on who’ll be in Tomoko’s third year class.
My guess: Yuri, Ucchi, Okada, Katou...and Komiyama.

Yuri on Ice Rewatch: Episode 4
This is over a week later than it should be, but oh well. Life kinda got in the way for a while. But I’m trying to get back on track with this now.
Anyway, thoughts under the cut.
Before I sit down and properly rewatch the episode, I should say that this was definitely the point where things were starting to change, and the fandom was starting to explode. Well, the turning point was episode three, but I just mean that by this point the upward and outward shift was in full swing, and this episode really helped cement it.
Part of why I’ve been putting this off for a while is because I wanted to give this a lot of time and thought, since it’s a very important episode in terms of both the show itself, and the fandom. I think everyone can agree that this episode marks a major shift in the story, and especially in Yuri and Viktor’s relationship. I feel like this post probably won’t be as detailed or well-written as I’d like, since it’s less that I’ve actually found a good time to do this and more that I’m kinda forcing myself to get back on schedule, but we’ll see how it goes.
With episode three marking a pretty firm end to the first general story arc, I remember going into this episode wondering how it’d handle the aftermath of the Onsen on Ice event, and where things would go with Yuri and Viktor now that they were back to being [more or less] alone together after Yurio left to go back to Russia. I think everyone in the fandom at the time was very curious to see where things would go.
On that vague note, it’s worth mentioning that around this point, though mostly starting with episode three, the whole meme of ‘Yuri on Ice out-gaying itself’ kicked off in the fandom. The show kept surprising us with how intensely and explicitly romantic it was at every turn, and how early certain sorts of developments happened. So we started to wonder after each episode how the show could possibly ‘out-gay itself’. In hindsight it’s kinda funny to think that we all kept assuming that the show ‘couldn’t possibly get more gay’. Compared to stuff later in the show, it feels almost quaint in hindsight, that stuff like Yuri’s Eros performance in episode three felt like an impossibly high bar that the show could never surpass. I don’t think anyone genuinely thought that it was literally impossible, but there was a definite sense of doubt, and a sense of genuine surprise as things kept getting more explicit.
I should probably eventually give my full detailed thoughts on that entire thing, but now’s probably not the time for that.
Anyway I’ll just sit down and watch the episode itself now.
---
This is still a really great episode. In general I really love the early episodes and how intensely character-focused they are. It’s hard to compare them to the later episodes, though, since the later episodes also have the benefit of having a lot more in the way of relationship development and whatnot.
And since the first episodes are a bit less rigidly structured, I feel like after so long of not actually rewatching the show, my memory of exactly what happens in which episode started getting kinda mixed up. And there’s some stuff I just completely forgot about. It’s a kinda weird experience to have felt so firmly entrenched in this show and it’s fandom for more than an entire year, while still feeling like I’d forgotten certain things upon revisiting it, but I guess that’s natural. It at least helps make this rewatch feel fresh. I usually have a difficult time rewatching things that I have a good memory of, because it often feels kinda boring to ‘go over the exact same thing again’, but this is going fine.
This episode’s whole purpose is to wind down the beginning arc and focus more intimately on Yuri’s emotions before setting up the competitions that’ll basically make up the final two thirds of the show, and it does a fantastic job of it. There’s a good reason why this episode always sticks out in people’s memories as an important part of the story. Well, multiple good reasons, I suppose.
I really like the focus this episode has on Yuri’s self-confidence issues, and how he comes to understand that nobody sees him as weak, and that he’s not fighting alone. It’s just a really sweet and positive sort of message. A big part of the show’s overall exploration and examination of love as a concept is rooted in the idea of understanding and accepting the love that exists around you, in all it’s forms, and we really start seeing that theme in this episode.
I also find it very relatable, how Yuri at least used to view people’s emotional support and love as something invasive and pushy, and how he had a habit of pushing people away. I still feel like his decision to move away for so long and not really contact his family was related to this idea as well. Not to mention details like how he apparently doesn’t really interact with his followers on social media. He’s not exactly cold or self-centered or uncaring or anything like that, he’s just not good at opening up to people and allowing a mutual connection to form. Which is obviously something that he gradually gets better at as the show goes on.
Which I suppose gives me a good excuse to jump forward in the episode and talk about the beach scene, which I still love. It’s definitely a fan favourite scene, though in certain respects it kinda gets forgotten in favour of later scenes. But I love this scene and how calm and subdued it is. It’s a good representation of how this is where Yuri and Viktor start becoming closer to being equals and the layers of idolization and glamour start to fall away. As I’ve said before, one of the major bits of progression in this show is Yuri and Viktor’s ‘positions’ relative to each other. I don’t know how to phrase it well, but as Yuri himself says in this episode, by the start of this episode Viktor felt less like a coach and more like a god. Yuri in particular is sort of holding Viktor at arms length as a result of all that idolization and awe, and so they were only able to start creating a meaningful connection around this point in the story. Not that they didn’t have any kind of a meaningful connection in the first three episodes, but you get what I mean. There’s also a lot to be said for how Viktor himself saw Yuri in the early episodes, and how he had to examine and readjust his own perceptions of him as a person, in order to understand how to treat him as an equal. But that’s a bit more complicated, and I’ve kinda already gone over it in my previous posts.
It’s just really nice to get a scene like this where the two of them are able to have a somewhat casual talk in private about Yuri’s emotional hang-ups. For one thing, it was really nice, but probably pretty difficult on him, for Yuri to actively open up to Viktor about the things he talked about. Seeing him do things like that really helps illustrate how they’re beginning to properly get to know each other, and are heading down the road to being equals.
We also see a more calm and open version of Viktor in this scene. It’s not exactly rare, but it’s still nice. He even opened up a little in his own way, in talking about the seagulls remind him of St. Petersburg, and how it was a sound he’d always taken for granted because he never thought he’d really leave that place. That whole line in particular is pretty interesting, partly because it’s a neat insight into his character, but also because it’s bought up again in episode ten in a way that illustrates how he developed between this episode and that one, and how his perception of ‘home’ shifted. Which I’ll talk about more when the time comes. I also, of course, like everything he says in this scene about how neither he nor anybody else sees Yuri as being weak, and that, as his way of showing his love, he won’t go easy on him, because he knows that he’s strong.
And of course this scene also gets us back to the whole ‘koibito’ mistranslation. It came up in the previous episode, and at the time seemed innocent enough, but this is the part where the awkwardness and inaccuracy of it really starts to show through. It’s still really sad to me that this mistranslation exists in the show, because it really does influence your perception of these episodes. It comes across a lot differently when you don’t realize that the exact same word is being used in each scene. The main thing is just that when Viktor asks Yuri if he’d like him to be his boyfriend, he’s using the exact same word that had previously been translated as ‘girlfriend’. But even though this line is the ‘main one’, it’s the ‘girlfriend’ lines that were the inaccurate ones that caused the actual problems. The ‘boyfriend’ line was just the one that put them into perspective. It’s not really the biggest problem in the world, but I dislike it because it’s a prime example of heteronormativity. I mean, it’s basically the dictionary definition of it. And it really does influence the audience’s perception of things, especially Viktor and his sexuality, when they keep seeing him use the word ‘girlfriend’ in the subs. It makes them falsely assume that he’s attracted to women, and then that he’s exclusively straight, which makes it harder for people to understand that the ‘boyfriend’ line was completely genuine and not some kind of a joke, and obviously in the long run it makes it even harder for a lot of people to accept the show’s central romance and it’s validity. So even if you could call it a minor mistake, it really stacks up in the end.
And on a similar sort of note, I should also say that it really bugs me how most people interpret Yuri’s flustered response to Viktor asking if he wanted him to be his boyfriend. It’s understandable, but it’s always bugged me how quickly a lot of people assumed it was a genuine ‘no homo’ sort of moment, and how, uh, vocal those people were about that interpretation. It got really annoying really fast. The bottom line is that everyone seems to casually ignore the fact that Yuri also rejected the idea of Viktor being a father figure, or a brother figure, or a friend. Specific emphasis on the last one especially. People get kinda laser-focused on the boyfriend part, but Yuri was rejecting ALL of those relationship labels. That’s what he meant by wanting Viktor to just ‘be himself’. He didn’t want Viktor to just be one specific thing in relation to Yuri. He wanted to connect with Viktor as the entire, multi-faceted human being. But at the same time, just because he rejected all of those things, it doesn’t mean that he didn’t want to be friends or lovers or whatever with Viktor. The main thing is that he didn’t want Viktor to JUST be one thing or another. It’s kinda hard to explain, but it feels like an intuitive enough concept to me, and I think most people get what I mean. If Yuri had accepted Viktor’s offer in this scene to be his boyfriend, then their relationship probably would have been largely restricted to just that aspect. Viktor would have tried to be ‘Yuri’s boyfriend’ at the expense of much else. There’s a very big difference between that sort of thing, and the way that their relationship developed in practice, into something that equally encompasses numerous different aspects, including [but not limited to] romantic/sexual love.
Also to be honest I’ve never quite gotten why some people seem so surprised that Yuri’s first response to hearing his childhood idol who he reveres as a perfect god say ‘do you want me to be your boyfriend?’ was to freak out and get flustered and try and deny it in order to change the topic. Like, how would YOU act if you were in his situation? It’s only natural, especially for someone with Yuri’s intimacy hang-ups, to not immediately accept that sort of request. The entire context of it being about Viktor springing that sort of question out of the blue while they’re still so distant from each other and barely know each other as equals kinda spells out what I’m trying to say about how the sort of relationship they would have entered, had Yuri hypothetically accepted, would be more restricted than the one they have by the end of the show. And yeah it’s very important for me to stress that I’m talking about *the specific relationship dynamic they had by this exact point in the show*. I’m not trying to act like romantic/sexual relationships in general are somehow inherently restrictive or shallow, just that *in this specific context* they needed to take more time before getting to that sort of point. It’s also, of course, worth mentioning that Viktor has his own issues with putting up specific masks and personas around people to make them happy, while ignoring his own emotional needs and loneliness. I think that, if Yuri had have accepted the offer, Viktor would have put all of his energy into being ‘Yuri’s boyfriend’, and it would have become another mask hovering between them, preventing them from truly opening up to each other, as Viktor tries to maintain that sort of perfect image of being a boyfriend.
Anyway, moving on from that specific conversation, I also really adore how the scene ends, with them shaking hands as the clouds part and the sun shines down and we get Yuri’s internal monologue of ‘When I open up, he meets me where I am’. It’s a lovely little scene that really hammers in how this entire sequence is the beginning of them opening up to each other and becoming equals. In a lot of ways it really highlights a lot of what I love about their entire relationship. They both try so hard to overcome their personal obstacles in order to meet each other in the middle. A lot of their relationship development is about them trying to find that sweet spot between being too pushy and being too distant. I just love how healthy and realistic it is, especially in terms of how even at this point in the show they’re basically just STARTING to cross the gap between them.
I have a lot of things to say about this scene, lol. It’s probably not very coherent.
I also can’t help but laugh a little at the discussion of seagulls and their cries in this scene. I just can’t help but be reminded of Umineko. I don’t know why it amuses me, but it kinda does. I guess it’s still just funny to me that there’s even one scene in this kind of show that always makes me think of Umineko.
Although, even though my whole point here is that they’re radically different stories, I’ve had an analysis/meta post stirring in my head for months now based around examining how a lot of the themes of Umineko resonate with my experience with Yuri on Ice. Like, I feel like you could basically sum up all of my incredibly complicated feelings about the nature of audience interpretation regarding Yuri and Viktor’s relationship with the line of ‘without love, the truth cannot be seen’. They also happen to basically at the moment be my two favourite pieces of media, and for very personal reasons I kinda view them as two sides of the same coin in terms of my emotional connection to them. But that’s, again, more about my personal feelings toward both of them as stories, so I don’t know if it’d be worth talking about even in it’s own post, or if it’d even make any sense to anyone else. It’s at least off-topic for this rewatch series specifically, so I’ll stop now.
In terms of the whole theme of them slowly but surely breaking down their barriers, I’ve always loved the little hair-poking scene. It’s almost hilarious to watch in hindsight because I could never image Yuri, by the end of the show, being that incredibly flustered and awkward and hesitant about the idea of just touching Viktor’s hair. It’s one of those moments that really illustrates how much they progress over the course of the show. Especially since it’s another moment that comes up again later in the show, this time during episode seven. In general there’s a good amount of little moments in these first episodes that get reflected in later episodes as a way to show how much closer they are by the end of the show. Considering how relatively little time the show has in it’s second half to spend on non-skating stuff, those sorts of moments are a nice way of illustrating character development via small scenes.
I also love the whole topic of the ‘Yuri on Ice’ track in this episode, and all the scenes related to it. There’s a lot to it, so I probably won’t go over it all, but I just really like it. It was always really nice seeing Yuri work on getting his own original music track to use as part of a program [even if he got someone else to compose it]. There’s even a cut of him writing down a list of notes about different types of songs he could work with. Sadly it’s not translated as part of the subs, but I remember finding a tumblr post ages ago where someone translated the whole list. He really put a lot of thought into it, and was considering a whole bunch of different ideas and themes, before landing on the theme of ‘on my love’. Which also reminds me that the beta name for ‘Yuri on Ice’ [the song, not the anime’s name] was ‘Yuri’s Love’. You even get a little reference to that, with how when Yuri is listening to the old version of the song he got composed by the girl from the conservatory, you can see that name on his phone as it’s playing. I think the song playing in the background of that scene is even a beta version of the final Yuri on Ice track, which I think we didn’t get the full version of until the BGM soundtrack came out a few months ago. I sometimes wish they could have just stuck to calling it ‘Yuri’s Love’ so that it at least wouldn’t be so inconvenient to talk about it since it’s literally also the name of the show, but at the same time I love ‘Yuri on Ice’ as a name for the song itself, on a thematic level. It fits really well with ‘On Love: Eros’, and it really helps set up the whole theme of how much Yuri loves figure skating in and of itself, and how figure skating is a sort of vehicle for love, for both himself and everyone else in the cast. Which obviously ties into the final line of the entire show. So it’s a good name. It’s just always a bit of a pain when an important piece of a story’s soundtrack is literally just called the same thing as the overall story.
And obviously I just adore the song itself. It’s so pretty. I won’t deny that a week or two after the show ended I listened to it and cried for like three minutes. And then a little after that I wound up listening to the duet version of Stammi Vicino and cried for even longer. Let’s just say that that was the start of me deciding to just stop listening to the show’s soundtrack because it was too emotional for me, lol. So I’m dead serious when I say that I adore this song. It still really gets to me whenever I listen to it.
I also quite like the whole scene of Yuri talking about how he thinks he doesn’t have much time left as a competitive skater, and that he wants to have Viktor’s time, at least for now. It’s a really emotional scene, especially with the accompanying shots of stuff like Yuri’s bruised feet. It really drives in the fact that Yuri fears that his connection to Viktor is purely temporary, and is contingent on his career, which he also thinks is about to end. The fact that he sees their relationship this way is a really, really important topic that plays a big part in how things develop, and it’s yet another reason why I think his response to the boyfriend proposal was so understandable. Yuri went into this whole situation expecting that Viktor would only be with him for a year at most, and could leave at any moment, especially after how the whole Onsen on Ice drama had just occurred in the previous episode. Then, of course, there’s the additional angle of Yuri’s guilt about ‘stealing Viktor from the world’, which got referenced again in this episode, and is going to become very important very soon in the story. Again, it’s another reason why Yuri is so distant with Viktor early on, and why he rejects a deeper connection. He doesn’t want to keep Viktor for himself. At least not by this point in the story. There’s a whole world of people out there who are impatiently waiting for Viktor to return to Russia.
Even though I still don’t have much to say about Yurio in general, I do like his parts in this episode. I like the whole theme of him having to start from square one and reinvent himself as a prima ballerina after having been defeated. And of course I really like Lilia in general. She’s great. Though as a bit of a random note, I also really love Mila and wish she could have gotten more screen-time, but I think I completely forgot what her voice sounded like because it really threw me off. I just completely forgot that it was so . . . . high-pitched, I guess. I’m not sure how to word it. It’s not a bad voice or anything. I just feel like my mental image of her voice kinda shifted subconsciously, so it was a bit jarring to hear it again properly. It’s not a big deal or anything, though.
Anyway, I really like Lilia’s line about strong people being those who can be reborn again and again. It fits the entire show pretty well.
I feel like I’m running out of things to talk about with this episode, so before I end this I should also mention that the scene in the hot springs was really amazing. I still love the part where Viktor talks about how it feels to him like Yuri’s body makes music when he skates. Which probably relates a whole lot to the topic of how Viktor watched that viral video of Yuri. It’s easy to not pick up on, but when Yuri skated that choreography in episode one, I don’t think there was meant to be any music playing. The music we heard as the audience came specifically from Viktor’s side of the sequence, and it just carried over into Yuri’s side as well for narrative consistency. But the point is that when Viktor watched the video, it probably didn’t have any actual music playing, but he could still presumably hear the music in his head as he watched Yuri skate. It’s a minor detail, but it’s a neat one. Especially when you come to understand exactly what Stammi Vicino means to Viktor, as a song.
Anyway, back on the note of the hot springs scene, I also of course love the part where Viktor intimately poses Yuri’s naked body as a stretching exercise of sorts. And I’ve always loved how the crowd of onlookers included an old man who was literally thanking god for what he was seeing. Obviously on a base level it’s cute and funny, but on a more serious level, I really do appreciate that in a scene involving a group of middle-aged and elderly men witnessing a display of sexually-charged physical intimacy between two men, the only vocal reaction we saw from them was a positive, thankful one. It’s a relatively small detail, but this sort of thing means a lot to me. That this sort of a scene can be framed in a light-hearted and comedic way that praises and admires the characters involved, rather than insulting them.
But anyway yeah this was a really great episode. I still need to get properly back on schedule with these posts, but I’m not too behind now, so that’s good.
Next time we’ll be transitioning into the competition-focused side of the series, so that’ll be an interesting shift to go through again. Episode five is one of the episodes that people don’t really remember or talk about much, but I remember liking it a lot.
#murasaki rambles#yuri on ice#these posts are a lot of fun to make but jesus christ they take so long to write#mostly because I'm lazy and often get distracted while writing them but still#this took nearly three hours lol

mun-birthday answers
Aaand here we are! I was supposed to get done with this sooner, but got caught up losing it with the most amazing gifts, a couple of which I have reblogged here too because they need to be seen. I had a great birthday and was sucessfully killed with overjoy by my friends!
Before we get started, just letting you know I’m sorry there was still no update this weekend- last week was finally my last exams week for now until next month, but was busy with birthday stuff and prioritized working on commissions. I’ll try to get the blog back to activity this saturday! Thanks for being patient!
Now for the munday asks!
And we’re off to a great start!
(p.s. there’s Katsuyami hcs under the cut so you might want to check that out!)
@memeidoriya @iskraeon @heyaboomyo

Thank you so much, fam!! I'm from São Paulo, Brazil! Japanese brazilian, full asian, born in Brazil, spent a chunk of my childhood in Japan. Obrigado pelo apoio! <3
Thank you so much, anon! Story time! To sum it up, around july-august I was so hooked up in BNHA it amused me. It was the first time in a big while I was so hooked up in something, thinking and talking about it constantly and producing content for it. I stumbled upon the BNHA ask blog community on tumblr and started thinking it'd be super fun if I made my own-- and how even more fun it'd be it I made it with a slow burning plot and character/relationship development. I used to be a big Deadpool fanboy (hence my previous handle, deads-on) and the ship spideypool, and those familiar with it must be aware of ask-spiderpool -- hands down the greatest ask blog out there. The way the blog had a plot and the very gradual building up of a relationship was my big inspiration to how I wanted to run an ask blog. So at first I though of going for Katsudeku since it was my big time OTP-- but since the story was still in development and so was their relationship, which is one that must be worked with care if you want to go towards healing, I thought it'd be too great a responsibility and tried to think of an alternative. Like an alternative universe, which would give me room to develop them on my own pace. I was already familiar with the prototypes from the manga extras and a few fanart I've seen around, so I though-- why not? And as I mulled over whether or not it was a good idea - since I was never a punctual artist and I might've been putting too much expectations on it - I developed a bunch of headcanons about them at the same time and grew a bit attached to them. One day I started doodling Yami, which later would become the early reference sheet I posted of them, and drawing things is one of the easiest routes to grow attached to them. So long story short, I gave in to the idea when I was in a two weeks break from school to recover from a small lung surgery, and here we are now!
Now for some asks from the ask memes!
👅 which muse is the kinkiest
I got three of these. I wonder why.
In this SFW blog, where they're just awkward teens still with a long way working out their relationship, it probably won't be addressed, at least not explicitly. Specially with Yami, who for as of now is just too awkward and self conscious to dare thinking about his own sexuality. But outside of the blog, it's easily Katsuki. That is one crazy bastard. But these headcanons don't belong in this family friendly blog, go bother me on @sonreiv if you want to hear more. Moving on!
🌱 which muse is the most gullible
Surprisingly so - or maybe not - it's Katsuki. He rarely sees harm in people, aside from having his own personal beefs for superficial reasons. He doesn't realize how harmful he can be either. Now that doesn't mean he trusts anyone easily - quite on the contrary. He's just bought easily by compliments and praise, and assumes everyone will like him. Yami on the other hand grew up with a very codependent and quite manipulative best friend, so he's definitely more socially wary.
💎 which muse is the biggest drama queen
Again, it's Katsuki. If he's upset about the smallest thing, he makes sure it's more than clear. It's not like he easily gets deeply upset-- he'll just react loud and exaggerated because his pain must be noticed... by Yami. He'll whine and complain to him until Yami validates his feelings. He'll also easily take minor things as personal offenses if Yami's involved, like if that damn half and half insists on putting more food on his plate. That shit's suspicious! Why'd he do that? I'm your BFF! Here, eat this. Shit like that. Yami's a lot more introspective and reserved about his feelings.
👍 which muse would you most likely get along with
I'm going to say both! Socially wise, in a group of friends I'm a lot like Katsuki. I get along well with people as stupid as me so we could be dudebros. Yami's not that hard to befriend (provided you put up with Katsuki's possessive ass) either despite his initial social awkwardness, and if you get comfy with him he's actually pretty sassy, and we share the same existential anguish!
🐢 which muse always runs late
Both are very punctual with school commitment! Yami will be punctual with both school and friend meetings. Katsuki will show up first if he's hanging with Yami, but he’s the one most likely to come up with shitty excuses if he’s running late. On weekends Yami tends to get up late, though.
2. What is your favorite ship (be it romantic or otherwise) with your character?
Obviously Katsuyami. But if I'm to choose another ship-- I love PROT4 so much. As in, a poly ship with Katsuki, canon!Katsuki, Yamikumo and Deku. That is my absolute shit. I love any combinations between the four of them to be honest. Honorable mention goes to Katsuyamiyuu which is my proto OT3 right after these four.
8. What is your favorite random headcanon?
This is kind of a spoiler since I still plan to address it on the blog, but here we go.
As kids, Katsuki and Yami would often play heroes and villains. Katsuki would more often than not have poor Yami be either the villain or a sidekick. When it was just the two of them, though, Katsuki would ask him to be the damsel in distress. Yami would complain he could be a civilian in danger without having to be the damsel, but Katsuki would talk him into it because it "looked cooler". He'd even put a flower in Yami's hair for realism. Then after Katsuki's done beating up the bad guys and rescuing him, he'd demand a kiss on the cheek, to which Yami complied.
Katsuki still brings it up like it happened yesterday, and Yami wants to die every time.
Well! That’s it for now! Thanks everyone who took interest and for sticking with me up until now! I hope to continue entertaining you with this blog!
Next saturday, hopefully, a new update with Yami and some interesting dreams.
