Soren was doing perimeter checks around New Lux Aurea. Not because he had to, though. He couldn’t sleep, and figured he’d give one of the other Crownguards a chance to get more sleep.

It was the better thing to do, even though he didn’t particularly want to.

The only sounds he heard were distant birds and his own footsteps against the loose sand beneath him.

Were those his footsteps?

His footsteps shouldn’t have been that loud.

He did a slow turn, his left hand resting on the hilt of his sword.

Someone else was here.

Their footsteps were light, so it wasn’t one of the other Crownguard. He loved them all like brothers, but they were all terrible at being quiet.

To be fair, so was Soren at times.

He saw the edge of a shadow against the sand and turned around swiftly, brandishing his sword, but nobody was there.

He frowned. What the hell-

Two small things darted from the shadow of a nearby rock pile. His mind barely had time to process them as bolases before one wound itself tightly around his legs, the other around his wrists, knocking him over into the sand. His sword clattered across the sand, out of his reach.

Soren maneuvered up onto his elbows, trying to get into a less vulnerable position, before seeing the sole of someone’s boot come down onto his face, making everything go straight to black.

Soren’s head hurt. A lot.

The loud throbbing that travelled around the front of his head to his ears is what woke him up. He blinked the black spots out of his vision, glancing around. 

The walls were made of a rough, unshaped brownstone, and the cave-like room was empty. His arms were stretched out, bound to the wall by metal cuffs that dug into his wrists painfully. He had been stripped of all his armor, left in only his boots, trousers, and dark red undershirt. 

His sword was gone too, although unsurprising, he did wonder if they had taken it or left it in the sand back in New Lux Aurea.

“Someone’s awake.” The voice was very familiar and filled Soren with a mix of both rage and irritation. “Took you quite a while.”

Karim.

“No thanks to you.” He wrinkled his nose. “You kicked me in the face.”

“Oh. That wasn’t me.” Karim said. “That was Zephyr.”

“Who?” In Soren’s opinion, Zephyr was a very stupid-sounding name.

“Me.” His gaze shifted from Karim to the empty space beside him, where another elf stepped out. They had light blue skin and dark messy hair, with a black blindfold over their eyes. Two white horns came from one spot on the middle of his hairline, branching away from each other. In their hand was a tall silver staff with small engravings scattered along it

“Now, Zephyr is going to help me get a few answers.” Karim clasped his hands behind his back.

“I’m not telling you anything.”

“We’ll see about that.” He said as Zephyr approached Soren, crouching down next to him. He flinched away, his eyes fully focused on the staff.

“How quickly the dragon becomes a lizard when confronted with a little bit of magic.” They murmured, gripping his chin and forcing him to look at them. 

“My sister isn’t in Lux Aurea,” Karim started, and Soren looked at him as Zephyr let go of his chin. “Where is she.”

“You can find that out over my dead body.” He glared at the Sunfire elf.

“Poor choice of words.” Zephyr tilted their head, before drawing out a rune with their staff in a zigzag shape. A crackle of lightning appeared in their other hand, and they set the staff down before tightly gripping Soren’s collarbone.

“Fulminis.”

A fiery white pain crackled under his skin, making Soren double over, biting back a scream. The pain travelled down his right arm and up the side of his neck, and his lungs felt like they were constricting, trying to suffocate him.

The metallic taste of blood filled his mouth from biting the inside of his cheek.

A moment later, the pain was gone, leaving him shaking and gasping for air.

“Want to try that again?” Karim’s voice rang out. “Where is Janai.”

“Fuck… you.” He spat out through gritted teeth. His inner cheek was bleeding more now, blood dripping from the corner of his mouth. “I swear to whatever god out there I am going to kill you.”

Karim looked amused. “Was that a threat?”

“Did it sound like a compliment?”

“Fulminis.”

Soren screamed, doubling over as the blinding pain traveled down his side and up the side of his neck. His vision went fuzzy as he felt his throat close up, leaving him gasping for air.

He couldn’t breathe.

Why couldn’t he breathe?

He needed to breathe.

His throat opened back up once the pain stopped, letting him take slow, ragged breaths. His lungs screamed with every breath, not even wanting the air anymore.

Soren hadn’t realized Karim had walked over until he grabbed Soren’s chin, forcing him to look at him. His grip was tight, nails digging into his skin.

“Where. Is. My. Sister.”

Now, Soren may have been raised as a Lord’s son with manners, but becoming a Crownguard at age 17 threw most of those out the window.

He spat in Karim’s face.

The Sunfire elf’s brown eyes went yellow with rage, rivets of fire cracking along his skin as his hand shifted to grip Soren’s throat, almost causing his head to crack against the stone behind him.

His hand burned against Soren’s throat, his grip tightening and making Soren struggle to breathe. He could feel his skin start to blister under his touch, causing searing pain to rupture through his neck.

“You’re lucky I still need you,” he growled, before releasing his neck. Soren’s breaths sounded more like wheezes, his throat raw. He could feel the blood cracking around the side of his face, itching like hell.

“Knock him out.”

Before Soren could make any protest against that idea, he felt the metal of Zephyr’s staff crack against the side of his head, forcing him into darkness.

DP x DC: The Most Dangerous Card Game

Ok so Danny has essentially claimed earth as his. And he is fully aware that there are constant threats to the planet. Now he can’t stop a threat that originates on earth (that’s something he’ll leave to the Justice league) but he can do something about outside threats. Doing some research on ancient spells, rituals, and artifacts, he cast a world wide barrier on the planet to protect it from hostile threats so they cannot enter. This will prevent another Pariah Dark incident. However, barriers like this come at a price. You see, there are two ways to make a barrier. Either make one powered up by your own energy and power (which would be constantly draining) or set up a barrier with rules. The way magic works is that nothing can be absolutely indestructible. It must have a weakness. The most powerful barriers weren’t the ones reinforced with layer after layer of protective charms and buffed up with power. Those could eventually be destroyed either by being overpowered, wearing them down, or by cutting off the original power source. No, the most powerful barriers were the ones with a deliberate weakness. A barrier indestructible except for one spot. A cage that can only be opened from the outside. Or that can only be passed with a key or by solving a riddle. So Danny chooses this type of barrier and does the necessary ritual and pours in enough power to make it. And he adds his condition for anyone to enter. 

Now the Justice league? Find out about the barrier when Trigon attempts to attack, they were preparing after he threatened what he would do once he got to earth. How he would destroy them. The Justice league tried to take the fight to him first but were utterly destroyed, so they retreated home to tend to their injuries, and fortify earth for one. Last. Stand. Only when Trigon makes his big entrance…he’s stopped.

The Justice league watch in awe as this thin see-through barrier with beautiful green swirls and speckled white lights like stars apears blocking Trigon and his army’s advance. The barrier looks so thin and fragile yet no matter how hard the warlord hits, none of his attacks can get through and neither can he damage said barrier. That’s when Constantine and Zatanna recognizes what this barrier is. Something only a powerful entity could create. For a moment, the league is filled with hope that Trigon can’t get through yet Constantine also explains that it’s not impenetrable. And clearly Trigon knows this too for he calls out a challenge. 

And that’s when, in a flash of light, a tiny glowing teenager appears. He looked absolutly minuscule compared to Trigon and yet practically glowed with power (this isn’t a King Danny AU though).

And that is when the conditions for passing the barrier are revealed. And the Justice realize that the only thing stopping Trigon and his army from decimating earth. The only way he can get through….is by beating this glowing teenager in a card game. 

Not just any card game though. The most convoluted game Sam, Danny, and Tucker invented themselves. It’s like the infinite realms version of magic the gathering, combined with Pokémon, and chess. And Danny is the master. So sit down Trigon and let’s play.

(The most intense card game of the Justice league’s life).

After Danny wins, this happens a few more times with outer word beings and possibly even demons attempting to invade earth, yet none have been able to beat the mysterious teenager in a card game. Constantine might even take a crack at it and try to figure out how to play. He’s really bad though. Every time this happens, the Justice league worry that this might be the time the teenager looses. Yet every time, he wins (even if only barely). 

Meanwhile, Danny, Sam, and Tucker have gotten addicted to the game and play it almost daily. Some teachers might seem them playing the game are are like ‘awww how cute’ not realizing this game is literally saving the world. Jazz is just happy they aren’t spending as much time on their screens playing Doomed.

Finished the game couple of days ago and had some thoughts I needed to process a little. Like. Yes.

So anyway I actually didn't plan this and just wanted to redraw some sprites to just make sure I understand how to draw Siffrin correctly (still working on that!)

What did I learn from this? How fun it it to draw on a canvas that literally doesn't let you draw with colors without some layer cheating when necessary. Never tried it.

The beans. Sleeping beans.

Basically what happens when you want to sleep AND draw. Draw characters sleeping on your behalf.

Doesn't help, but at least it's cute.

I have no idea what was going on in my mind as I drew this. Feels like a fever dream of 'I want to sleep' at 4 am and 'Hm...' of thinking random things
