How to Build a Sustainable Writing Habit Through SCIENCE (Fuck Off, NaNoWriMo)

This is a lightly edited repost from a previous post on my mostly-defunct blog, topazadine.com. I feel like it's an excellent thing to highlight now that everyone's wondering what the hell do to after NaNoWriMo showed their ass as anti-creative idiots.

I have never liked NaNoWriMo and think, frankly, that it is a garbage tool for new writers. If you've done it and enjoyed it, that's great, but overall, it is not the best way to build motivation. At all.

But why is NaNoWriMo so bad? (Other than the current controversy.)

It encourages younger writers to think of writing as something they do during the months of October through November. Not something they do all year round, day in and day out. People will prep for weeks to do a whole novel in one month and hinge all their writerly hopes on that one singular month.

We won't even get into the fact that November is the absolute shittiest month to try to get a novel done because the holidays are coming up, and many working-class people are busting their asses off to get extra hours in before Christmas.

Writing is something you do all. the. time. It is not bound by a singular month. It is not limited to a certain time of year. And when you are working to complete a draft, it doesn't matter season it is. What matters is that you get it done.

So let me show you something better. But first, why should you listen to me? And why is my method an improvement over a shitty organization's AI-riddled contest?

I wrote the first draft of my novel, Poesy (104,323 words) in 39 days.

That’s an average of 2,647 words per day. It is also about twice as much as the typical person aims for during NaNoWriMo. I did not set out to get it done in any given time period, but I still completed way, way more than NaNoWriMo would require in just about the same amount of time (plus 9 days).

I didn't have a buddy group. I didn't have checkins. I just had me and my keyboard and my secret weapon, which I'll show you in a bit.

How is it possible to get so much more done without that external motivator?

Simple: I compete with myself.

You Need to Develop Intrinsic Motivation

What in the world is intrinsic motivation?

Intrinsic motivation is defined as the doing of an activity for its inherent satisfaction rather than for some separable consequence. When intrinsically motivated, a person is moved to act for the fun or challenge entailed rather than because of external products, pressures, or rewards. Frontiers in Neurobiotics

That is, in essence, what we do when we’re writing for fun; or, rather, it should be what we’re doing when we write for fun.

A lack of intrinsic motivation is why people who see novels as a get-rich-quick scheme tend to burn out when they realize that most writers make less than minimum wage. That's called extrinsic motivation, and it doesn't work well for things like writing, where there may not be any easily-defined goals or motivators. Most of us are not going to become rich from our writing.

Here's why extrinsic motivation is unhelpful:

Extrinsic motivation does not always work best; sometimes it can make us perform poorly at certain tasks. For instance, studies reveal that high stake rewards, like cash bonuses, can hinder cognitive capacity. This happens because they shift our focus away from the task and onto the outcome. We can become preoccupied with rewards and all the things that come with them, such as our social status, instead of just doing the work. Extrinsic rewards also tend to narrow our focus on a defined goal and reduce our ability to see other possibilities, hindering creativity. Studies find people perform worse on tasks requiring imagination and ingenuity when they are offered extrinsic rewards, such as higher pay. Nir and Far

And, well, note that "performing worse on tasks requiring imagination and ingenuity." Extrinsic motivation is literally the WORST motivator for writing specifically.

NaNoWriMo is extrinsic motivation, which is not anywhere near as powerful or sustaining as intrinsic motivation. You want to get the shiny achievement award, so you just bang out 50,000 words of slop because you want to say you did it.

You're not motivated by anything but the outcome. That does not a sustainable writing practice make.

But there’s something about intrinsic motivation I want to highlight, because it’s crucial to what I am about to show you: the challenge.

Sometimes writing is a total slog because we’re worrying about all the other things and not on the words themselves. We’re fussing about whether we will ever get published, if we’ve added enough tension in a certain part, if our mom is going to read our porn and realize what a freak they raised.

You cannot think about those things while actively writing.

Instead, you need to focus on the writing process itself. John Schinnerer, a psychologist and life coach, explains further:

Remember as you are in the process of achieving your goals that the enjoyment comes from the doing not the attaining. It is important to find contentment in the act of pursuing the goal while placing less weight on the actual fulfillment of the goal itself. PsychCentral

So we know you need to find the challenge fun, and you need to focus on the act of putting the words on the page.

In other words, you need to make it a contest with yourself. Here’s how.

Use a Word Count Spreadsheet

Finally! We get to why I’m telling you this! It's free, it's easy, it can be done all year round.

A daily word count spreadsheet is an amazing way to stay motivated and to keep pushing yourself to write because you can literally see the wins rack up. Every day, the word count jumps significantly, which can be much more motivating than just “oh, I’m at 8,453 words.”

More importantly, you’ll start to want to beat your “high score” from the day before.

I’ve highlighted one of the cells so that you can see the simple formula that you need to set up: it’s just yesterday’s count minus today’s count.

Put that in one cell, then click and drag the bottom righthand corner of the cell, and it will populate the rest of the cells in that column with the adjusted formula (B4-B3, and so on).

This is very easy to create. All you have to do is copy-paste the wordcount from your document into your spreadsheet, make sure you have that super-simple formula, and you're done. I have severe dyscalculia and can still use it.

But you can see how much this really helped me:

Things started to really ramp up right at the end because I was getting so motivated by the word counts of the day previous. I wanted to beat yesterday’s high score and keep going.

At the beginning, I was writing maybe 1.9k words; by the end, I was an absolute demon, regularly breaking over 2.8k and then some. On the last day, when the rest of the family was in a post-Christmas hangover, my butt was glued to my chair, banging out those last few thousand words.

Psychologists and life coaches agree that self-competition, a type of intrinsic motivation, is one of the best ways to improve.

Michelle Gibbings, a workplace expert, explains:

When you compete with yourself, you don’t become fixated on what other people are doing; you set the direction and speed. You put yourself in the driver’s seat and control your progress, setting meaningful goals rather than focusing on the progress of others. Michelle Gibbings

Making a word count spreadsheet like this is the definition of setting your own speed and controlling your progress. You can decide on a threshold you always want to hit and then feel very satisfied when you go beyond that.

I set my threshold at 1.5k words every day so that I didn’t feel bummed out when I had an off day and couldn’t get a lot done, but I really wanted my average to be around 2k, so I’d periodically check how close I was to that. If I had a terrible day or was busy, then I’d want to make up for lost time and write more the next day so I kept my average.

Now, I live a life that is quite advantageous to consistent writing: I’m single, I’m childless, I work from home, and most of my hobbies are pretty low-key.

Your life doesn’t look like mine, and that’s totally okay.

There’s no need to match the speed I showed here.

What matters is that your schedule works for you, and that you are consistent.

If you’re a caretaker or have a strenuous job, then set your threshold at just 100 words and aim for an average of 500. However, you’ll be sad if your spreadsheet has a blank cell, so you’ll want to get down at least something, even if you only have 15 minutes to write.

Plus, it’s so encouraging to see the word count go up day by day: much more satisfying than just seeing it in tiny font at the bottom of a Word document or Google Doc.

Or getting some dumb t-shirt from an organization that is actively trying to murder creativity for commercial gain. (Oh, and they protected an actual pedophile from consequences for months on end while he continued to groom children. But that was last year's controversy.)

There’s another reason why this particular method works so well for writers, though.

Word Counts Banish the Urge to Edit

You know you shouldn’t, but you do it anyway. A single word here. A removed sentence there.

The first draft is just about getting everything out, not fixing everything that needs fixing. That part comes later during your five billion revisions where you tweak every single word.

Revising means you have less to work with, which means you have less development. You can get rid of anything that shouldn’t be there when you’ve gotten to that very satisfying “The End” page.

If you are motivated by the spreadsheet method, then you are screwing yourself over if you edit.

Your word count went down! It looks like you did less than you did! You’re losing! Best add more, and fast!

(I had to include my placeholder chapter names; it was obligatory.)

Use strikethrough! Now you know exactly what you’ll be getting rid of when you get to the end of your draft, but you’re not decimating your word count. I removed the entire beginning of the book; that scene is super cute, though, so I later turned it into its own one-shot on my AO3 page.

I prefer doing that because then, if you find that you actually wanted to keep that scene or move it elsewhere, all you have to do is copy-paste from the old version, remove the strikethrough, and you’re all good.

So that’s my tool. It’s really that simple.

But even though it’s so simple, it works wonders for your motivation and consistency, which are crucial for a good writer.

Are you going to give it a whirl? You may find it nervewracking at first, but I encourage you to sample this method, especially if you have a hard time getting motivated.

Could please do some Halloween/All Souls' Day oneshot? It can take place during the time when Astarion and Aletha are adventuring together. It's a beautiful golden Autumn and they end up in a little town where there is late fall festival... They decide to indulge local kids and play a witch with the pointy hat and a vampire with long black cape. Fun stuff. If you want the do the "remembering the dead" thing, they can even get a trinket or a picture that reminds them of Tiriel as a reward. But this should probably be more sweet than sad. Thank you!

In the Forgotten Realms, the closest holiday to Halloween is the Feast of the Moon, or Moonfest, an annual festival held between the last night of Uktar and the first day of Nightal. This event, similar in its themes of honoring the dead and reflecting on the supernatural, marks the end of the calendar year. During Moonfest, worshippers of Sehanine Moonbow participate in the Mystic Rites of the Luminous Cloud. In this sacred night, they are often transformed into scintillating streaks of light, flying across the starry heavens. The festival is a time to celebrate ancestors, remember the deceased, and embrace the turning of the seasons, embodying a mystical, otherworldly atmosphere.

“I am sure I am worth more than 30 gold!” Astarion remarks, trapped in a net. If it wasn’t for the silver he would easily set himself free, but since the threads are intertwined with thin metal strands the vampire needs some help. “Hey, where are you going?!”

Alethaine stops a few feet away. “Well, I'm going to those dwarfs and demand they pay me more because apparently the vampire I have ‘killed’ thinks he is more expensive. So, Dad, should I do this?”

“Princess, release me AT ONCE!” he demands.

“Don’t yell at me dad, I am 176 years old, not 7!”

Astarion huffs. “I am not “yelling”.I just… well… I don’t like being trapped.”

Alethaine climbs up to the tree and cuts the net. Astarion falls onto the dead leaves, swearing in all the languages he knows. He sets himself free and scratches a silver-induced burn on his left hand.

Alethaine wears her black cloak and shivers. Astarion sniffs the air. The dwarven village smells of warmth and blood and it is definitely a more comfortable place than the cold autumn forest in the middle of nowhere.

But you can’t “kill” a vampire and then come to the village with him.

“Let’s go,” Alethaine says. “I am freezing!”

Astarion takes off his cloak and hands it to his daughter.

“Dad, I am fine.”

“And I have no use for this, for my heart is as cold as the grave I dug myself out of. Take it.”

Soon Alethaine stops shivering and father and daughter keep walking through the cold night.

Alethaine is visibly tired and barely talks. Astarion casts glances at her from time to time.

She doesn't look like Tiriel at all, he thinks. Tiriel, his beloved wife and his savior, died four decades ago and there hasn't been a night when he doesn’t think about her. Red hair, freckles, warm as a fireplace. Loud, rude, and sometimes unbelievably stupid (she hilariously believed the Spine of the World was a skeleton of some ancient beast). And an inborn leader who could make people listen to her and trust in her.

Unlike Tiriel, Alethaine doesn’t talk a lot. She leaves her thoughts in her head and rarely says more than she needs. The dark witch with a cold undead heart – Astarion has never asked her personal questions, but he suspects she has never been in a relationship with anyone in her 176 years of unlife.

“Hey, cheer up princess, we will be back to the Swords Coast by winter. That means fat citizens with warm blood for me and tasty meat for you.”

“Are you suggesting cannibalism?”

“Maybe?”

Anethaine laughs, revealing her dhampiric fangs. “I miss finding books to read more.”

“You know,” Astarion pinches her nose. “I didn’t manage to teach your mother to read. Like, first I couldn’t believe she didn’t know how! She even didn’t know how to read ads in taverns.”

“Dad,” Alethaine asks. “Didn’t mum ever want to stay in Baldur’s Gate? I am sure you both had opportunities there after you’d defeated the Netherbrain. And now everyone thinks the city was saved by the Devil Duke and the Archmage of Waterdeep.”

“She didn't want to stay,” Astarion shrugs. “Escaped at the first possible moment. And honestly, I was fed up with that place.”

Alethaine looks up at the stormy skies and cold droplets of rain fall on her pale face.

“I have been there.”

“In Baldur’s Gate?”

“On the ruins of your master’s mansion.”

The silence is so thick that Astairon feels like he could touch it.

“Some of the vampires return to the city using the tunnels,” Alethaine explains. “Some dhampirs try to chase them back but often get lost. You know, I sometimes think any sane person would have burned the vampire lair to the ground and hunted the rest.”

“Your mother wasn't sane,” Astarion smiles. “I mean, once she challenged a demigoddess to a fistfight. And then she got wasted with some goblins. And when I finally found her she was dragging a giant’s corpse to hide in the swamps because, quote, ‘no one must know…’”

Suddenly, Astarion feels the presence of another creature.

Very close to him.

“You!” a dwarf screams. “I knew you were working together! Brothers, halt!”

Alethaine grabs her dagger but Astarion stops her.

“There are twelve of them.”

“I feel fifteen,” Aelethaine corrects.

“There are twenty,” the dwarf sounds offended.

Father and daughter exchange glances.

“We aren’t in the mood for fighting, are we?” Alethaine implies.

“We aren’t.”

Alethaine runs to the right and Astarion to the left. No matter how fast those dwarves are or how many hammers they have, there is no chance to catch up with the undead in the woods at night.

Especially when it’s as dark as the last night of Uktar.

Astarion finds pleasure in running. His undead body doesn’t get tired and he feels warm from all that blood he’s been consuming in the last days. His shirt and trousers soon get wet, but they don't cause any discomfort.

He has been running like this for almost two centuries, ever since he broke his chains.

He has been running with awe and wonder in his chest because the night has no limits and no masters, and he can see all the marvels with his elven eyes.

Astarion stops.

Feels the presence of a crowd.

Of a song.

An aura of magic.

The vampire makes a few steps forward and upward to look around from above a tree.

At first, he hears a song. It dances through the night, enchanting and mesmerizing.

Then he sees the singers.

About thirty moon elves in long silver clothes are walking forward, strangers in those dark and misty woods. They walk gracefully like spirits or gods and Astarion immediately recognizes what they sing.

An anthem to Sehanine, the elven goddess of death, moon, and journeys.

Astarion hides behind the tree – the procession reminds him of something long forgotten and yet close that makes his undead heart ache and makes him want to howl at the moon.

“A Sehanine,

Silivren penna míriel.

Omenel aglar elenath

“... na-chaered palan-díriel,” Astarion whispers the words of the song.

The elves gather in a circle around standing stones. Astarion turns away. He doesn’t want to keep watching. He feels like he is sneaking, seeing something intimate, something he has no right to witness.

“Oh, I didn’t know there were Sehanine’s followers in the area,” Alethaine appears out of nowhere behind him.

“Fuck!’ Astarion exclaims. “Princess, you’re gonna give me a heart attack.”

“You need a heart to experience that,” Alethaine comments.

Invisible to his vampiric senses, Alethaine has managed to start a campfire and put up a tent while he was watching elves.

Astarion sits beside Alethaine feeling the pleasant warmth from the fire. The song can still be heard perfectly, and he notices Alethaine is being enchanted by it as well.

“Look!” Alethaine points at the dark skies.

Small silver spheres of light float in the air like little stars. A token of remembrance, Astarion realizes.

One light for every missing soul.

“Dad,” Alethaine whispers as if she is afraid to wake someone up. “Why did mum call me kitten? I always wanted to ask her when she was alive but forgot.”

Astarion follows the small spheres of light with his eyes.

“Because your fangs grew earlier than your other teeth. So you resembled a little kitten. And you also bit us to attract our attention,” Astarion chuckles. “And when you slept you curled like a cat.”

Alethaine puts a twig into the fire and watches it burn. “Then why ‘princess’?”

Astarion smiles. The flow of memories takes him to a past not so distant by elven standards.

“When I learned about you,” Astarion turns away to avoid looking at his daughter. “I ran away. I was scared, I was really thinking about abandoning your mother.”

“I don't blame you. I am the scariest monster in the area,” Alethaine chuckles.

“I spent three nights hiding and then saw a young human innkeeper. He had a little daughter who had been crying for his attention. And he called her ‘princess’. And I sort of got jealous. I wanted the same thing, to have a child. Then, I returned and your mother forgave me. End of story. Or maybe I just have some prophetic abilities that told me you would become a queen.”

“Me? A queen? A queen of what?”Alethaine laughs.

“Who knows. Maybe a prince is waiting for you. All royal and with a magic sword.”

Alethaine starts preparing her bedroll.

“When I was young and traveled with other dhampirs, a warlock did a card reading for me and told me there is ‘a king of swords’ waiting for me in the future. I told her I am as cold as a grave and know what sex is only because some of my cousins are fucking perverts.”

The song ends in the distance and Astarion hears soft echoes of elven whispers.

The moon elves are remembering their dead ones.

Wives, husbands, brothers, sisters, parents, teachers, friends. Hoping at least some shades of their personalities will survive the reincarnation. A desperate plea to Seldarines who couldn’t care less about their pointy-ear children.

Still, he joins the chorus.

“I remember,” Astarion whispers. “My wife, Tiriel.”

Alethaine bites her finger. “I remember my mother, Tiriel.”

Astarion gets closer to the fire. He doesn’t need to trance yet, but he decides the weather is too shitty anyway.

And he wants to remember better.

This autumn is different. It’s warm and foggy and local humans decorate the area with pumpkins that grin with their eerie smiles.

Astarion runs.

He runs because he can and because there is no limit. He runs because he is well-fed and because no one can stop him from doing whatever he wants.

But always returns.

His feet are dirty and his shirt is in rags. He knows that his hair is messy and there are blood stains on his face.

He enjoys this too because he won't be punished.

Astarion jumps onto the roof of a small wooden house and crawls inside the window for comfort and safety.

“You look like you’ve been fistfighting ogres,” Tiriel notices from below the blanket. She has been sick for the last few days and spent all this time in a comfy bed.

“And you look like someone who has almost drowned in a swamp.”

“Astarion! You promised to forget it!” She hides her face in the pillow.

“How could I forget you going missing for a few days and then almost drowning in a swamp because you wanted to hide the body of a giant?”

Tiriel looks at him suspiciously. “You aren't going to forget that, are you?”

Astarion takes off his dirty clothes and uses wet rags to rinse off the dirt. When he is finally more or less clean he lies beside Tiriel who immediately hugs him.

When Astarion returns back to reality it’s already morning. He lies still, watching the gloomy skies from his dark tent. Trying to grasp the memory of Tiriel’s warmth for as long as possible.

Mayday Hayday Gift Exchange

I had the absolute pleasure of participating in this years' Ikeseries gift exchange hosted by @olivermorningstar and @lorei-writes, and I got the wonderful @tulipsaisle for my giftee. She has a wonderful OC that was fun to write about and I hope I did her justice. Thank you all for the opportunity to join in on this amazing experience!

Fox Fashion

Shiloh scratched the tabby cat’s back, taking a break from running her stall at the day’s slow peak. It was so heartwarming for her attention to be rewarded with purring delight and affectionate head bumps.

Paying attention to the cat also had the added benefit of Shiloh being able to ignore Nokto Klein.

“Shi-loooooh,” Nokto sing-songed as though he’d not been yapping for the past five minutes about his latest conquest at some ball he just attended. Couldn’t he have picked a more interesting topic? It’s not like Nokto wasn’t a great storyteller: the way he could draw in a crowd as he utilized his honey-smooth voice and descriptive embellishments was near unparalleled, but he so often wasted his talents by telling tales no one wanted to hear, least of all Shiloh.

“Did you hear something, Minou?” Shiloh cooed at the cat, “All I heard was the wind. If only it would blow its hot air somewhere else, huh?”

“Come now, I’m sure there are better ways for me to put my mouth to use than just blowing air, hmmm?” Nokto purred. Shiloh clucked her tongue and turned her face away so he couldn’t see her red cheeks. She always struggled to think up a good comeback when he toed the line of vulgarity like that.

“Be honest, dear,” Nokto said, angling his body to try and catch a peek of her face, “is a cat you see every day really more interesting than a prince specifically stopping by to visit you?”

“Oh, of course not,” Shiloh waved Nokto off. She took a small toy mouse out of the pocket of her dress (it was worth making friends with the best seamstress in town) and tossed it on the ground for Minou to play with. “If Licht were to stop by, I’d be happy to sit him down for some tea and snacks.”

“Just Licht?” Nokto prompted.

“Well, there’s also Leon, Jin, Yves,” Shiloh counted on her fingers as she listed everyone aside from Nokto, “I heard Prince Keith is a good conversationalist and knows a lot about flowers, I wouldn’t mind picking his brain about them, and there’s-”

“I think I get it,” Nokto said dryly, “so foxes rank pretty low under cats with you.” He reached out to boop Minou’s nose, causing the cat to scrunch her face adorably. “What am I going to have to do to make you change your mind?”

Shiloh raised an eyebrow at him in disbelief. “Do you really think you can compare with Minou’s gentle sweetness? Her precious curled feetsies?”

“I don’t think any human can compare to that,” Nokto admitted. That was suspicious. Usually he didn’t give up so-

“But I can show you a different kind of pleasure that’s just as delightful.”

-soon. “Unless you’re talking about the pleasure of silence, I’m not interested,” Shiloh said, dusting her dress as she stood up, ready to refocus on her shop.

Nokto laughed and said, “I’ll get you to admit my charms one day, Miss Hayes.”

“Ugh!” Shiloh groaned as she fanned herself with her hand, “Why can’t spring last longer?” Maybe she should upgrade from an outdoor stall to a shopfront-then she’d have more than just shade to protect herself.

At least she wasn’t suffering alone. Nokto had shown up minutes ago, having heard the same thing from Celine, the seamstress, about a surprise showing up around now. And Nokto wasn’t any better in the heat than she was. “I can easily say this isn’t my preferred method of working up a sweat,” he agreed, asking for the second time, “Are you sure you don’t want to close up and go to a cafe? I’d never imply you were anything other than a delight to look at, but you’re turning a shade of red that even I normally can’t get out of you.”

“No thanks,” Shiloh stood her ground, though there was a part of her that couldn’t deny being tempted, “but if you can’t handle it, I won’t think less of you for needing to escape to safety.”

“Such a kind offer. But I’m not callous enough to leave you out here all by yourself. Why, what if you were to feel faint under the-” Nokto sputtered a bit when Shiloh frantically shushed at him to be quiet, flapping her hands in his face. She’d just spotted Celine’s surprise trot around the corner.

“Oh. My. God!!!” she shrieked, taking in the sight of Minou in the most adorable little getup Shiloh had ever seen. Never in a million years would Shiloh ever imagine she’d see Minou in a dress, but here she was, watching the tabby proudly prance over to her, wearing a tiny, flowery-there were roses! And junipers!-green sundress, perfectly sized and aimed at making Shiloh lose her mind with cuteness overload.

“Well, that’s certainly something,” Nokto observed over Shiloh’s gushing, “That must have been a struggle, to wrangle a cat into that outfit.”

“It’s worth it,” Shiloh declared in awe, “she’s the most precious thing I’ve ever seen. And such a good idea! How many people would jump on the idea of outfits for their pets? Celine could start a whole line of clothing for pets-the fabric and labour costs would be much lower, too. Oh, she’s brilliant!”

Nokto watched on as Shiloh began muttering about the process of the fashion industry and how it can accommodate Celine’s project. “This is what gets you going, is it?” he chuckled in amusement, “Regular clothes just aren’t enough for you anymore so now you need a tiny version to get excited over?”

Shiloh cut off her rambling, a hand on her hip as she addressed Nokto, “When a new line drops, I’ll be all too happy to talk your ear off about it. Don’t for one second think I’ve given up one of my big loves in life. But come on!” she gestured toward Minou, who was in the middle of grooming herself, “I challenge you to find anything cuter than a cat in a dress.”

“Sounds like a tough challenge,” Nokto said, a sudden gleam in his eyes, “what do I get if I win?”

That didn’t sound good at all. Shiloh eyed Nokto warily, wondering what the tricky fox was up to. But it wasn’t like she could take it back-withdrawing now would just make it look like she thought Nokto could actually do it. She would have to face this head on. “If you can succeed, I’ll take you up on one of your non-sexual! invitations.”

Nokto’s grin made her immediately regret her words. “Sounds like a deal. I hope you keep to your word.”

Ah, great. Shiloh blamed her poor decision on the awful heat.

Well, today was the day. Nokto had messaged Shiloh to let her know he was ready to show her something cuter, and Shiloh could only hope that he came up with something perverted; it would be a pain to deal with, but at least she lose and be dragged along on whatever plan he had up his sleeves. All Shiloh could do was count down the minutes until the time Nokto promised to arrive, her eyes boring holes at the street corner he should come down.

She’d wracked her brain, trying to think of every possibility available, but when Nokto finally rounded that corner, she realized nothing could prepare her. Shiloh slapped her palm over her mouth to stop herself from bursting out laughing at the sight before her.

“Well?” Nokto twirled for her, the hem of the dress he wore flaring out with the motion, “What do you think?”

“Wh-why?” Shiloh wheezed behind her hand, still struggling not to laugh despite the realization that the dress actually looked good on Nokto. He’d gotten it tailored to his measurements and picked a colour that went well with his skin tone, so he was clearly taking it seriously . . . kinda. Nokto hadn’t passed up the opportunity to be as, well, slutty as possible: the dress was a slinky little number, the neckline was cut as low as physically possible, and there was a slit along his right thigh nearly to the waist, revealing pantyhose of all things! Why was he like this?!

Nokto struck a couple of unnecessarily sexy poses, “Because it’s clear that the only thing cuter than a cat in a dress is a fox in a dress, wouldn’t you say?”

Shiloh had a lot she wanted to say, such as “but you’re not an actual fox” and “then why didn’t you wear a cute dress?”, but none of that mattered more than telling him, “There’s no way this counts.” Nokto just smirked, like he was prepared to debate this all day if he had to, and Shiloh knew, with a dawning sort of horror, that she’d sealed her fate the moment she set up that condition.

Maybe she could still get something out of it if she convinced Nokto to wear a dress to whatever party he wanted to drag her to-at least that would give her something positive to look forward to in the face of her crushing defeat.

[3:29 am] “you’re so loud, princess”, siyeon cooed underneath you, her hands gripping your hips firmly, “you really want the entire hotel to hear you when the fun hasn’t even started fully, huh?”

“i think she wants everyone to know how big of a slut she is for us, don’t you, love?” minji added from her position behind you with a small grunt that came right after.

you found yourself in a position that could be described as probably the dirtiest one you’ve ever been in, after dropping not-so-subtle hints to both minji and siyeon about wanting to try it out. when the first realization of you wanting to take both of their straps at the same time hit them, it took minji by surprise; she was extremely into the idea, but never expected you to take interest in it, let alone be the one to suggest it. siyeon, on the other hand, nearly let out a growl before eagerly telling you she’d be ready at any time you wanted it to happen.

it felt better than you could’ve ever imagined.

after the initial delight of siyeon pulling you on top of her to make you ride her alone, you felt that the thought of what would follow was already starting to push you over the edge; you forced yourself to slow down and looked back to where minji stood before your sea of pleas began, unable to control your patience. once she pushed just the tip in, you couldn’t help but whine loudly at the feeling of your other hole being stretched out by the strap, its other end putting pressure on minji’s center, causing her to let out the initial grunt.

Like legit owlcat needs to fix that lock marazhai in the cargo hold route stuff cause it actually resolves the issues I (personallly) have with dom!RT and sub!mara, because it's not about squeamishness, it's about control, and controlling every little aspect of this delusional elf that has for whatever reason decided to crawl into the beasts den and stay there instead of booking it the moment they left commoragh. Like it's not the feasting/hunting that gets me, it's the fact that for how possessive/controlling full dom!RT seems to be at times, letting marazhai hunt free his corner of the decks as he pleases seems to be not that.

So this got kind of long sooo

It feels like it was supposed to be

- marazhai has full reign of ship = sub!RT

- marazhai has feasting area = nuetral, heretic RT who is not romancing him, it's a compromise between sustaining him and also keeping him contained and also chaos and heresy

- keep him locked up and control his diet/feed him/make him beg for it = dom!RT

And like lowkey there's precedent for this with the bed scene where there's just not sub version of it no matter what. And so I choose to believe that there's alternate sub route for how to handle the locked up Marazhai route that we were denied. (Or I could just be projecting my own desires/interpretations onto marzipan lol, toybox archeology and its consequences)

Sub!marazhai is interesting in the sense that he's always creating openings for you to assert your dominance and I'm thinking that a fully realized dom!RT shouldn't be waiting or watching for those openings, fun and salacious as they are, instead creating/opening them as they desire.

There seems to be this sense of dignified 😈 around this elf, which yeah he's trueborn and that's sort of a big deal for the drukhari, even if this one is a loser.

He has this dark grace and I want dom!RT to have noneee of that.

I want their dynamic to be a mix of, RT still has an axe to grind with marazhai, but they also find the flashes of submission from this ruinous creature unexpectedly appetizing and want more, much much more.

And marzipan existing in a state of assuming he'd be introducing RT to his culture and the drukari condition and slowly testing and teaching them and then finding the carpet pulled out from under him when RT ends up being much more experienced than he was prepared for and much more demanding in ways he wasn't prepared for.

Oh, Marzipan needs to feed on suffering to not wither away? Well instead of that being something he gets to take for granted that he will be fed, that it will be conditional, a reward. I want to him to squirm for it. To question whether RT will actually seriously give him up to slaneesh just like that. I wish you could do that btw, you can offer him to the inquisition, you should certainly be able to- oh wait you can yeah, with the daemonettes.

But it's not a proper equivalent though, a proper equivalent would be drawing a straight up ritual circle, parking his betrayed and terrified self in it and kissing him goodbye. Better if after the brand because sure, he thought it meant something but you've tossed out/thrashed much more expensive property than one drukhari.

Anyways.

This is making me realise that what I actually want is the heretic rt ending but like the diet coke version and only marazhai drinks it. Kind iconoclast RT for everyone else. And occasionally for marzipan but like to torture him by denying him torture. And that to be loved is to be changed slideshow and it's just marazhai before and after. Would this RT still adore marazhai after cooking him like this? Who knows.

[ Story Premise - You catch Lucifer playing piano by himself and reminiscing after a long day. Just fluffy nostalgia and tickling. ]

I watched a stranger practice this piece, dreamily smiling and blocking a hallway. Since I didn't have the balls/ovaries to tell him it was beautiful, this one's kinda for you, man.

It’s been a tiring day for you; you spent most of it outside the house with the brothers for a party that Asmo had thrown out of the blue, and while it was fun for a while, you ended up slipping away by evening. There’s only so much dizzying social interaction you can stand, and you decided you should just go while you had the opportunity.

You sigh against the door of the House of Lamentation, glad for the security of your home away from home and its current silence. You start walking towards your room when you realize that you’re not entirely enveloped in silence. There’s… a faint melody?

Drawn towards it, you find yourself peering into the music room, where Lucifer sits, his bare fingers glancing across the black and white keys, and you watch, spellbound, as he plays. You knew Lucifer could play the piano, but you never would have thought you would feel like this as you watch him. His wine-colored eyes focus intently on only the piano in front of him, his foot gently feathering pedals and guiding each note to completion with expert care.

In a word, it’s beautiful.

Vaguely, you wonder if he even notices that you’re there, and you lean against the doorway, watching and doing your best not to disturb him. As the faint light glints off his scarlet nails, you find yourself watching his long, pale fingers, admiring them just as you’ve admired them several times before.

You close your eyes, and you let the piano lead your imagination on, into scenery and associations and emotions. The song is gentle and light, and yet it’s bitter and slightly painful, like you’re missing something. Vaguely, you wonder if he’s thinking about something specific as he plays, but there’s the slightest smile on his face, as if he’s happy.

He lingers on the last notes of the piece, and his voice startles you out of your daydreams.

“I see you’re home by yourself,” he says, fully turning in your direction.

“The party was getting loud,” you reply sheepishly. “I kind of wish I stayed behind with you.”

“I had work to do,” he replies, and you snort.

“Do you ever not have work to do?”

“No,” he concedes. “But apparently, I don’t have work when I’m spending time with you.” He stands up from his spot on the piano, replacing his gloves onto his hands, and you look at them for a moment longer.

“You take your gloves off for the weirdest things.” Lucifer lets out a short “hmph.” before he holds out his hand for you to take.

"Consider it my way of savoring my sense of touch," he replies as you take his hand, and he pulls you against him, the fingers of his other hand trailing down your spine to rest on the small of your back. "Do you remember this?"

"Yes," you sigh as he starts to waltz with you. "It’d be more bizarre if I didn’t remember how much you drilled it into my head because of that stupid ball you made everyone go to.” Truthfully, you hadn’t actually minded the ball that much once you had gotten there, but Lucifer’s strict lessons had given you a headache, not to mention some intense anxiety.

“Would you have preferred that I asked Barbatos to do it?” he teases as he leans his head next to yours.

“Maybe I would have,” you grumble.

“Well, he is an excellent teacher,” Lucifer replies after a moment. “That said, he wouldn’t have rewarded you, now would he have?” Lucifer kisses your ear.

“Not the way you did,” you reply, kissing his cheek, and he chuckles.

“I’m glad you came home before everyone else,” he replies as he slowly turns with you around the room.

“Were you thinking about something specific while you were playing?” you ask curiously, and Lucifer smiles softly to himself.

“Not in particular,” he replies, his voice suffused with painful nostalgia. “I saw an old picture of myself, and I was just reminiscing.”

“What old picture was this?” you ask, your curiosity sparked, and Lucifer stops dancing with you to reach into his pocket to pull out a badly faded photograph. On it, you can see an angelic Lucifer losing himself in laughter while Mammon appears to be tickling him with a grin. The picture is captioned in fanciful script, “Mammon Finally Getting Payback on His Older Brother.”

“I don’t have a lot of good memories from my time as an angel,” Lucifer says with a faint smile, even as he walks over to a couch and sits back down again to stare at it. “But the pictures she took remind me that I didn’t always hate living in the Celestial Realm. I remember the day this picture was taken, and I remember how he tackled me that day on my way to see Michael. I must have been particularly busy that day, because I only remember walking one minute and then getting slammed onto the ground the next.”

“I can tickle you if you want. For the nostalgia,” you reply, plopping next to him, and he slides you a slight glare.

“Don’t even think about it, MC.” Pity. I’d love to see him with that expression on his face now…

“That just makes me want to do it more,” you tease, poking him in the side, and he snatches your hand, making you pout. “But it’s a fond memory, right?”

“It’s also a very old memory,” he grumbles. “Maybe I have to say it again for you. Don’t try it.”

Of course, you’re going to try anyway.

So, that’s how you end up playfighting Lucifer on the couch. You manage to get your hand free, but the moment you move to use your skills on him, he has both your wrists in one hand, smugly smirking at you as he does so.

“Now what?” he asks.

“Lucifer, bad! Down boy!” Eh, it might have been cheating, but honestly he forced your hand, right?

“Urgh,” Lucifer groans as the pact takes effect, and you’re on him in another instant. “One of these days, you’re going to get it for making me follow such humiliating orders.”

“Not today,” you reply with a grin as you poise your hands at the ready. For a moment as Lucifer looks up at you, you wonder if he secretly wanted tickle torture even though he protested. “Let’s see that smile, you emotionally stunted old man.”

“MC—” he tries to say before he clamps a hand over his mouth as an involuntary giggle tries to leave his mouth as you trace your fingers up against his neck.

“Oh ho, is there another reason you cover up your skin that I don’t know about?” you hum, and he slaps at your hands as you attack his sides, sending him rolling and squirming under you as he gasps at you to stop between his rich peals of laughter.

“MC, I mean it, stop it!” he cackles.

“Let me think about that.” Hm, should you stop? Maybe, but it’s been a while since you’ve seen such a huge, beautiful smile on his face. “Nah.”

“MC!” he squeals, his voice rising an octave higher to Yamashita’s normal speaking voice, and his struggles to escape result in both of you landing in a tangled heap on the floor. Lucifer groans, and you come to the keen realization that despite the fact that you’re now under him, his hand is under your head. His mouth spreads into a smirk. “Your turn.”

“Oh no, you don’t!” you cry, scrambling out from under him, and he lets you try to run away. You don’t bother to check whether or not he’s following but you’re still running regardless.

“Run all you like, but you’ll never escape me,” you hear his voice through the halls.

“Wanna bet?” you call back, though you’re running for his bedroom. Of course you wouldn’t escape; who would want to escape? “That’s just cheating, Lucifer,” you complain at the sight of him on the other side of his door. He simpers at you with his arms folded. “No teleporting.”

“Running is for humans,” he replies as he closes the door behind you and grabs hold of you before you can escape again, squeezing the living hell out of you, and you return the embrace in equal force. Eventually, both of you relent on trying to hug each other to death and loosen up, though you don’t entirely let go of Lucifer. “Feeling needy today?” he asks, though he hasn’t let go of you either.

Recent WLW/GL Series Guide

Going to start a compendium for all things wlw but until then, so everyone is in the loop, will recommend some recently completed and currently airing shows I think people should check out:

Lulu (2022, Philippines) A really great, feel-good show, low budget and a little ridiculous but I love the main couple so much! Watched this with a friend and we both really appreciated how real they and their relationship felt, you could tell this show was made with love. A young woman decides to get away from it all following a break-up, deleting her social media and taking over her family’s sleepy beachside B&B, only to fall for her one-and-only guest, a mysterious tomboy with a pet cactus. When the pandemic hits, they are forced to spend lockdown alone together. 8 episodes, about 30 minutes.

Sleep With Me (2022, Philippines) Excellent series about two young women navigating dating and disability. Love, love, love that they do not exist in isolation, and that their relationship isn’t their entire world, they have friends and families and a job, and how very clear it is they love each other. Also the disabled wlw rep really got me as a disabled wlw its hard out there this series was so important to me. 6 episodes, about 30 minutes each.

Pearl Next Door (2020, Philippines) Spin-off GL webseries featuring a side character from a more popular BL series, filmed like a video blog as the main character, Pearl, navigates dating during lockdown. Very bubbly, bright, but I just felt like I was eavesdropping on a private video chat and couldn’t get into it myself.

Chasing Sunsets (2020, Philippines) Another low budget GL webseries about women falling in love during lockdown, but darker than the last one, deals with heavy mental health themes, content warnings are on the tin, meant to be educational as well as entertaining.

BetCin (2021, Philippines) An internet famous couple on the verge of a break-up have to pretend to still be in love to win a #relationshipgoals award with a 10 million pesos reward. Still need to watch this but I’ve heard it’s not very good, too L-Word and behind a paywall. Romcom. 8 episodes.

She Makes My Heart Flutter (2022, Korean) New mini-series which fast became a favourite about the dynamic between an aunt and a niece, both lesbians, who both end up working at the same women-only book cafe/bar, the Dickenson Room. Both are at very different places in their life, with the outgoing young niece a popular university student, easily falling in and out of relationships and open about her sexuality, while the shy, beautiful, but intensely private aunt has long been nursing a crush on the same woman, but is afraid she may be straight / not interested. Both help each other navigate romantic relationships, as well as being closeted to their extended family. 5 episodes, 11-16 minutes each.

Our Relationship Ended Before It Began (2022, Korean) Very cute mini-series, an overworked barista develops a crush on her tomboyish boss, doesn’t know what to do about it. Extremely sweet, but too short!

Girlfriend Project Day 1 (2022, Korean) Fun little mini-series, but too short! They are working on funding a season 2. Episodes only 5-9 minutes long, and only 5 altogether, but worth a watch. Two university students, one outgoing, one shy, have to pretend to be in a relationship for a psychology project, decide to try dating for real.

Welcome to the Lesbian Bar (2023, Korean) 5 episodes, 6-7 minutes, mini-series follows lesbians in a small bar in South Korea. Loved this one, very sweet, very realistic, wish the episodes were a little longer / we got more but really love what we get, good representation of different relationships and dynamics, and also has two butches/toms! The head bartender is wonderful, helps tie together different, unconnected stories.

Love Tech (2021, Korean) Started strong but lost me by the end. Still, it might be your cup of tea! A short black mirror-esque exploration of a dating service that dictates your life, including when and where and how often you go on dates and when your relationship ends. Two women try to game the system.

Nevertheless (2021, Korean) They aren’t the main characters but there is a very sweet best friends to lovers side plot between two female students at this art college which is so good I don’t think anyone should miss it. If you, like me, have no interest in the main plot, there are also compilations available online of just their scenes which I highly recommend, and gives you a movie-length show all your own. Explores coming out a little too, in a quiet way. It’s an art school.

My Fairy Ghost (2022, Japan) Only 4 episodes but really well done. A young novelist struggling to find inspiration for her next novel meets and falls in love with the ghost of an artist who needs her help. Excellent content, liked and subscribed, beautifully done. Loved this!

Six Survivors (2022, Japan) 6 episodes, 24 mins each. Contemporary scifi romcom with young zombie survivors taking cover in a mall and trying to ride out the worst of the apocalypse. Extremely cute, has some gay + bisexual female characters and a love triangle between three of them. There is a little blood and a few supporting characters become zombies, but very light on the actual horror, mostly a character study. Pretty fun.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (2022-2023, Japan) 12 episode first season, second season currently airing, anime, really great series for sci-fi fans even if you know nothing about the franchise (I went in blind and had no trouble), entire first season available on youtube w/ subs, and the dub has just started airing if you prefer dubs. Two girls at a dueling mobile suit school in space become engaged, start a company, and learn about the horrors of war. Not to be missed. (cw: violence, gore, murder, doppelgangers, psychological abuse, childhood trauma, death of family members, child endangerment.)

The Executioner and Her Way of Life (2022, Japan) Another anime that aired last year, 12 episodes, a joy for fans of unhinged, violent women slowly falling in love. The plot is contrived, but good for fans of adventure fantasy. Basically: a magic assassin / priestess is told she has to end the life of an isekai’d girl who can magically control time before she becomes too powerful. It doesn’t help that the girl she’s trying to assassinate falls in love with her, and seems to be impossible to kill, no matter how hard she tries. Contains a nice twist halfway through which made me love their dynamic. (cw: murder, gaslighting, backstabbing, manipulation, bullying.)

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady (2023, Japan) 12 episodes, 20-25 mins each, extremely gay and breezy fantasy comedy drama! A young princess who gave up the throne steals her brother’s fiancee so she can have an assistant for her magical experiments. Very fun, contains magic and a vampire. If you enjoy it, there’s also a light novel / manga.

Yuri Is My Job! (2023, Japan) Recently started airing anime based on the manga, gay schoolgirls work at a themed cafe where they pretend to be gay schoolgirls, everyone is putting on an act and everyone is into someone who is into someone else, a light comedy that purportedly gets more dramatic as it goes.

I’m In Love with the Villainess (2023, Japan) also translated as I Favour the Villainess, currently airing anime adaptation of a yuri manga, kind of unique for having a protagonist who self-identifies as a lesbian and there’s even a fairly frank discussion of sexuality in an early episode. Anyway, it’s got magic and a pseudo-historic setting (it’s in a video game, and, as I have mentioned, there’s magic). Should have 12 episodes, around 20-24 minutes each.

Mayonaka Punch (2024, Japan) currently ongoing summer anime that wasn’t sold as yuri but definitely. feels pretty yuri, I think if you like gl anime you’ll enjoy this one, it’s very fun and silly, stars a cancelled youtuber and the definitely-a-lesbian-vampire who’s obsessed with drinking her blood forming a whole... vampire polycule of girl vampire youtubers. I don’t know. It’s fun and cute and ridiculous so far. Definitely recommend it if any of this sounds appealing.

She Loves To Cook, She Loves To Eat (2023-2024, Japan) Slice-of-light, slow-paced, wholesome drama about two working, independent women who live in the same apartment complex and meet by chance. One of them loves cooking, but has no one to cook for. The other loves eating. A slow but believable, tender story about slowly falling in love over a shared love of food, would be good for fans of cooking shows as cooking is a big focus. One is just beginning to realise she’s a lesbian. 10 episodes, about 14-15 mins each. Longer second season airing now!

Chaser Game W (2024, Japan) 8 episodes, each 23-24 mins. Former girlfriends, broke-up years ago, now one of them hates the other, modern office romance, high drama, lot of tension, surprising amount of fluff for how angsty it is, one of them is married with a kid, this is a wild ride start to finish but very enjoyable if you don’t mind the fact the main couple never actually talk no one ever talks there’s no talking just a couple that’s very cute being put into a series of situations.

Ayaka is in love with Hiroko! (2024, Japan) will have 8 episodes, currently airing on gagaoolala, a streaming service I've always loved and supported and I highly recommend supporting if you can afford it. First episode is free! Contemporary office romcom based on a manga where a notorious womanizer things a younger coworker who keeps flirting with her is straight, and has no idea she's flirting...? but it is obvious she is flirting. Already hilarious, cute, can't wait to see where this one goes, great chemistry between the leads.

Stupid Wife (2022, Brazil) A woman wakes up after forgetting the last ten years of her life to find herself married to a woman she remembers hating in college with a child. Serious drama, has some darker moments, but with tender moments mixed in, you get to watch them slowly fall in love again. Completed. 8 episodes, 20-30 mins each.

Legend of Yunze (2021-2022, China) A really excellent wuxia featuring two women who fall in love, magic and demons and swordfights. The spin-off series which followed earlier this year, where they are re-incarnated in the modern day and fall in love there as well, also really delightful, and a translation of the second series is now available on youtube. (If you enjoyed this, definitely check out Legend of Yun Qian as well! It’s one of the best things I’ve ever seen and pure candy.)

Led Astray By Love (2022, China) Isekai where a woman from the modern day gets transported into the manhua she’s reading, falls in love with a politically-ambitious woman she initially believes is mute, who fears she may be a spy. Really funny, tooth-rottingly sweet, with a convuluted plot and bitesize episodes that fly by, I loved every minute of it.

Couple of Mirrors (2021, China) First season completed, but renewed for a second. Historical Chinese drama set in the 1920s about an assassin and a famous author whose lives become entangled following a murder. Mainstream, so heavily censored version of a very gay novel/manga, so keep that in mind, but it’s very clear they’re in love and surprisingly domestic near the end. (Murder mystery / police procedural focus since they’re not legally allowed to kiss, so usual cw apply: violence, murder, child endangerment.)

The Vampires (2022, China) Two young women investigate an old haunted ship and find its full of undead with complicated pasts. Very gay in a heavily censored way, surprisingly brilliant special effects and action scenes, fast-paced and engaging. 40 mins. (cw: fantasy violence, blood.)

Nü Er Hong (2023, China) Complete. Mini-series with very short episodes compiled into one hour long video w/ subs, chaotic good fun for fans of wuxia gl with sci-fi/fantasy elements, they are witch/demon/vampires from space? timeless and in love? I am biased b/c I am personally in love with Wang Laoji and women doing martial arts/being gay, but this is a fun one, if you can follow the slightly confusing plot. If you liked Legend of Yunze, don’t miss this one! (cw: blood, vampirism, misogyny, fantasy violence)

Moonlight Fills the Western Tower (2024, China) Completed mini-series, 1 hour 18 minutes. Historical romance between a crossdressing general and a spy who disguises herself as a beggar. I absolutely loved this one, very dramatic, with a lot of action and fight scenes! (cw: a lot of guns, violence, drowning, murder, drugging, some dubcon but it gets. diverted. gets very dark at times, but ultimately has a happy ending.)

A Flower for Three Lifetimes (2023, China) Completed mini-series, short episodes, 30 mins altogether. A flower becomes a real woman and falls in love with her keeper. Costume drama / xianxia.

Wicked Wealthy Women (2023, China) Mini-series, short episodes. Not for me, the plot was too convoluted and hard to follow, but I know it has a big following! A beautiful young woman marries a rich older man because she plans to murder him, quickly learns the rest of his family wants him dead, too. Rich people drama / murder mystery with a lot of backstabbing. Sequel series recently released, too, for fans! (cw: murder / gun violence, ableism, domestic violence, noncon, car accident, suicide, no happy ending.)

A Practical Guide to Being a Superstars Assistant (2022, China) Completed short mini-series, 13 mins. Contemporary romance between a rich, spoiled idol and her personal assistant, a secret fan.

Yun Zhi Xi / Cloudy Stream (2023, China) Upcoming mini-series, supernatural GL drama set in a school. Contemporary with magic / alternate universes.

Sunflowers / Feng Ling Yu Xiu (2017-2023, China) Donghua, extremely sweet animated series following the adventures of two girls who are very much in love. They are both soulmates and both extremely good at fighting and this became a favourite so fast they are so in love its ridiculous and I think about them constantly. S2 started airing this summer, and is also available on youtube w/ subs (+ Lunar New Year Special!!!)

Dear Uranus (2021, Taiwan) Short mini-series, about lesbians and gncs at a school in Taiwan, develops into a love triangle, made by and for lesbians. A lot of fun but too short, open-ended finale, holding out they make more episodes.

Handsome Stewardess (2019, Taiwan) Okay, not as ‘new’ as the others, but new to me, and I really fucking loved this series about a tom named Holly who wants to spend her life with her new girlfriend, a martial artist, but money is an issue, so she decides to get a job as a stewardess, even though she has to wear a dress. Dramedy, has some very funny, light-hearted moments and some very sad moments mixed together, but I loved this one a lot and have yet to find anything else that can hold a candle to it. (cw: they go hard on fighting sexual harassment, which includes depicting a lot of sexual harassment, be warned; a main character also becomes seriously injured.)

Secrets of 1979 (2021, Taiwan) Not a series so this is technically cheating but this is an amazing movie by Zero Chou that I need to rave about, it’s so good and I think everyone should see it! Two university students who are very much in love spend the summer with one of the couple’s families, living and working on a banana farm. They also end up helping out a magazine all about freedom of information and expression, something the current military regime rulling Taiwan does not condone. (cw: police brutality, violence.)

Fragrance of the First Flower (2021, Taiwan) This series really was not for me, too serious and slow-paced, but I’m sure others will enjoy this series about a wife and mother in a loveless marriage who reconnects with the girl she had a crush on when she was younger, but they were both too afraid to act on it. Now they’ve grown up she wonders if she can.

Encore Martha (2021, Taiwan) Standalone short, but I think it still merits inclusion, as it’s rare to see older lesbians get a shout, and she still looks amazing in her suit! A senior lesbian tom runs into an old love, and they try to reconnect.

2PM Campus (Thai) Follows some female friends in their 20s at university. 4 episodes, around 18-25 mins each. Includes a wlw romance.

Nothing Happens By Accident (2022, Thai) 3 episodes, 8 mins. Contemporary romance. Hurt/comfort, one has a broken arm, the other nurses her. Very sweet, simple love story.

Always Be You (2022, Thai) 2 episodes, 7-8 mins. Quick and easy ‘long time no see’ contemporary love story.

From 1 Metre to 1 Centimetre (2022, Thai) 4 episodes, 8-9 mins. MC who likes to live alone gets a roommate in her dorm, thinks they won’t get along. Has a rule new roommate stays at least 1 metre away from her at all times. This rule gets broken. Contemporary romance.

Gap the Series (2022-2023, Thai) Recently completed series with 12 episodes, nearly an hour long each, this one is so much fun, an office romcom with every fanfic trope in the book, starring a bright, outgoing young woman who falls in love with her rich, noble, emotionally repressed boss, who is being pressured into an arranged marriage. Highly recommend catching this, it’s very good, and the perfect balance of drama and comedy! (cw: mild homophobia, death of a wlw supporting character, but happy ending for main characters.)

Don’t Break My Mission (2023, Thai) 4 episodes, 6-8 mins each. Low-budget contemporary romance mini-series. One of them is trying get over the other, but keeps failing. Pretty sweet so far.

You are the Cream in my Coffee (2023, Thai) 7 episodes, 6-10 mins. Short coffee shop contemporary GL mini series, very wholesome!

You are the vitamins in my routine (2023, Thai) 4 episodes, 7-11 mins. Short GL mini-series, contemporary romance, but the couple starts out already together for a change. Sweet, wholesome fluff.

Show Me Love (2023, Thai) First episode released on youtube, the rest are pay to view. 9 episodes in total. Beauty pageant contestants fall in love. Update: rest now coming to youtube, too!

Service Charge (2023, Thai) Short mini-series, 3 episodes 5-6 mins. Contemporary romance b/w a housekeeper and an actress.

My Ideal Ratio (2023, Thai) 2 part mini-series, 6 eps, 5-10 mins. Contemporary GL romance. 170 is set in secondary school, 156 in university.

Lemon vs Melon (2023, Thai) First episode of six just released w/ subs, contemporary miniseries, a mistake leads to two women getting forced to live together, sounds like it will be an opposites attract love story.

Lucky My Love (2023, Thai) 5 ep miniseries (1 hour 20 runtime), office romance for fans of Gap, but a lot lighter/more sweet, with less angst, and less chemistry between the leads, but still a cute love story.

Be Mine (2023-2024, Thai) Upcoming GL, prologue episode out, full series will probably drop early 2024! Story seems to be an anthology, follows several wlw couples and friends in a contemporary setting.

Love in the Rain (2023, Thai) Coming soon, two teasers out! A contemporary love story, will be accompanied by three other unrelated GL shows w/ different actors, made by the same team, mostly following idols / musicians. Will update when I know more.

23.5 (2023, Thai) First episode just released, secondary school students in love. Very cute and wholesome first episode, a loner who just transferred to a new school falls in love with a more popular girl. Real sweet so far.

Blank the Series (2023, Thai) Based on the same series as Gap, follows one of Sam’s older sisters, a painter, who is being pursued by a younger woman, age gap relationship, grandmother doesn’t approve. Haven’t watched it yet and final episode isn’t out so can’t tell you if it ends happily, but people seem to be enjoying it? 6 episodes, averaging 50 mins.

Making Memorable Memories (2023, Thai) follows several different office romances happening at the same time between different women, with different dynamics, some who have past history. At the start felt like it was going to be an anthology but then you start to see how their stories intersect, it’s nice! Low stakes, but good. 12 episodes, around 9 minutes each.

Love Senior (2023, Thai) Currently airing contemporary romance b/w engineering students brought to you by a company that mainly makes BL but seems to be branching out. If this and 23.5 do well, there will likely be more.

Anti-Christmas Club (2023, Thai) Three-part mini-series about wlw who don’t like christmas, all around nine minutes.

Sunshine in the Wind (2024, Thai) Upcoming miniseries with a sweet trailer/pilot that just released recently, and a couple that started as a sidecouple from a bl series. Contemporary florist / actress romance.

Reverse 4 You (2024, Thai) Very excited for this, has a Life is Strange energy. New trailer just dropped and it finally has a release date! August 31st!

The Last Case (2024, Thai). WE HAVE A TRAILER!!!! WE HAVE A TRAILER!!!! No release date yet, but sounds VERY fun, looks amazing. Dark murder mystery thriller with modern career sapphics in their mid/late twenties.

My Marvellous Dream is You (2024, Thai). Contemporary romance, 45 min + 8 episodes. Leads have a complicated history. One is a famous actress, one is her stylist, ends up working for her rival instead because she’s being blackmailed. I went off this one quickly it wasn’t for me, too melodramatic, but others may enjoy!

About Galaxy (2024, Thai). GL series, might be out later this year? Not much news lately.

Affair (2024, Thai) Upcoming GL series, first episode airs 30 August. Contemporary romance, friends to lovers, going to have 8 episodes, don’t know much else yet.

Love of Secret (2022, Thai) A series about a family where several members are hiding innocent secrets, and things get confusing. One of the teenage daughters of the house is hiding a secret girlfriend, as well as a secret idol career. (cw: not a love story and they don’t get a happy ending, but it’s cute as a family drama, and it’s lovely how supportive her family are of their relationship while it lasts, but be warned going in, they don’t really get a happy ending.)

Stupid Boys, Stupid Love (2021, Thai) Okay, hear me out. This is a BL series set in a school, but they have a background relationship between two women, a tom/butch and a femme, which is so delightful I think it’s worth giving a shot just for them, even if you don’t usually watch BL or just want to skip to their scenes. It’s a very sweet best friends to girlfriends storyline.

Magic of Zero: Zero Photography (2022, Thai) Anthology series, first standalone episode follows the background wlw couple from Bad Buddy.

Wedding Plan: The Series (2024, Thai) BL series w/ a background GL couple who are already together. They’re sweet, but have far less screentime than the main couple so far. Will keep watching to see how it goes, but basically a contemporary work romance where two friends, a gay man and a gay woman, are trying to get married. The lesbian has a long-term girlfriend and the gay man is falling for the wedding planner. Reminds me a little of Two Weddings and a Funeral (2012).

Pluto (2024, Thai) Upcoming GL series, started filming recently, has a teaser. I believe the plot follows a woman falling in love with somone who has just come out of a coma from a car accident, and is now blind. Sounds heavy. I don’t know if it has a happy ending or not. Will get back to you. o7

The Secret of Us (2024, Thai) Currently airing GL series, a contemporary romance between a doctor and a waitress/student. Will have 8 episodes.

Club Friday: Love Bully (2024, Thai) 4 episodes, 40-50 mins. Contemporary romance between two young career women, ones a struggling bartender and ones about to make the CEO of her family's corporation. Really loved this one, also nice to see some older trans rep with Aunt Jo! (cw: some homophobic & transphobic language & violence from antagonists trying to break-up the happy couple)

The Loyal Pin (2024, Thai) Just started airing, series about a princess and her childhood friend who fall in love starring Freenbecky. Big budget, high society drama where love conflicts with duty. Will have 16 episodes in all, releasing every Sunday.

Omaiseries (2024, Vietnam) Two university students who are roommates fall in love, one already knows she’s a lesbian the other one’s still figuring it out. Very sweet, wholesome, extremely low budget, entire thing looks filmed with a camera phone but if you can overlook that the leads have great chemistry. Still ongoing, currently on the second season! People are sleeping on this but they shouldn’t. 10-12 minute ‘marathons’ collected shorter episodes w/ english subs.

My Other Half (2024, Myanmar) also “The Other Side of My Heart”? Hard to get information for this one, 7 episodes, all around 30 minutes, only just started getting english subs though so waiting for them all to get subbed, will update when I know more and I’ve watched it all!

She (2023, Myanmar) A florist who feels trapped by her relationship with her abusive husband, falls in love with the woman she recently hired. 4 episodes, 10-17 mins each. (cw: domestic violence, sexual assault in first episode.)

Badhaai Do (2022, India) A movie, not a series, but I wanted to include it! Comedy/drama. A gay woman and a gay man decide to enter a lavendar marriage to keep their respective families off their backs, while they date people they’re actually interested in on the side, and eventually decide to raise a family together. Feel good movie, explores unique family dynamics and coming out. (cw: police brutality, blackmail.)

Catch the Light (2019, India) Short 3-episode mini-series about a bisexual woman who is going blind, explores disability, sexuality, and polyamory. (cw: does feature a homophobic parent, so an argument can be made against homophobia by a supportive one.)

Gentleman Jack (2019-2022, UK) Fun while it lasted! Period drama based on the real life of Anne Lister, a womanising, opportunistic, businesswoman from the 1800s who is looking for the perfect woman to set up house with. (cw: casual homophobia, misogyny, classism, and gun violence, typical of the setting.)

Confessions of Frannie Langton (2022, UK) A dark, feminist, period drama based on a novel about a Jamaican maid in 1820s England who falls in love with her master’s wife and is accused of their murder. Heavy and tragic but well done, I do appreciate how unapologetic Frannie is about their relationship, despite the setting. 4 episodes, 45-50 minutes each. (cw: slavery, misogyny, racism, homophobia, abuse, violence, master/servant relationship.)

Hitmen (2020-2021, UK) Sitcom about a pair of middle-aged assassins played by Mel and Sue. Not a romance at all but Sue’s character is gay like her and it’s always nice having older lesbians on television. 2 seasons, 12 episodes. (cw: violence, murder.)

Renegade Nell (2024, UK) historical setting but fantasy themes, butch mc who isn’t super young but is very badass, don’t think too hard about it and it’s a very fun show, she has a female love interest near the end, unclear whether or not it will get renewed but I do recommend this one if you like escapist fantasy shows like Willow, Dickinson, Warrior Nun, Xena, etc. Haven’t seen a lot of people talking about it but very delightful, and the sapphic part was a surprise, I was more happy to see a show about a crossdressing main character in olden times honestly.

Killing Eve (2018-2022, UK/USA) Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer are brilliant, if you just ignore the last series (which was terrible) the first three are a lot of fun and I love the S3 finale. If you somehow managed to miss it, a show about an assassin and the woman obsessed with exposing her, based on a book series with a better ending. (cw: extremely graphic and visceral murders, often played for laughs.)

Willow (2022, USA) New fantasy adventure series, recently completed. 8 episodes, 40-60 mins each. There’s a very good love story between two of the main female characters, a knight and a gender-non-conforming princess, who have been best friends since childhood. Love their chemistry, not to be missed if you like fun, chaotic adventure fantasies, has the feel of a D&D campaign. (cw: typical fantasy violence, blood, a couple of supporting gays are buried in the third episode.)

Haunting of Bly Manor (2020, USA) A popular one, but if you missed it, features a wlw couple who are very sweet, up until they meet their inevitable tragic ending. If you have an issue with ghosts, horror, death scenes, or tragic endings, give this one a miss, but I will say it’s not big on blood or jumpscares if that’s the kind of horror you avoid. I had much more problem with the writing than the ghosts (it’s not great), but the couple are sweet while they last.

I’m Not Okay With This (2020, USA) Short lived coming-of-age Netflix drama cancelled after the first season about a teenage women with a crush on her best female friend who might have supernatural abilities, or might just be going insane. (cw: explores themes of mental illness, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, gore, violence)

One Day at a Time (2017-2020, USA) Sitcom about a Cuban-American family, the eldest daughter realises she’s a lesbian, comes out, and gets a nonbinary partner over the course of the show.

Arcane (2021, USA) Ongoing, animated series about the main ensembles struggle to survive in a crumbling, dystopian city. I like Vi and Caitlyn, I think their dynamic will get explored a lot more in the second series from what the writers are hinting.

Dragon Age: Absolution (2022, USA) Another animated series on Netflix, not a love story at all but has sapphic main characters in a messy relationship at the centre of their drama and I love to see it. Only 6 episodes.

Dickinson (2019-2022, USA) The first series didn’t win me over but the last two were a lot of fun, not to miss. Escapist, surreal, anachronistic take on the life of Emily Dickinson that lets you forget the dreariness of real life if you let it. Very gay ending. 3 seasons, 30 episodes.

Harley Quinn (2019-2023, USA) Animated series, DC universe, follows Harley Quinn post-leaving the Joker and her best friend Poison Ivy, who she ends up dating, they’re both bisexual, nothing gay happens until the second season but much is made of their friends-to-lovers dynamic from the comics. 3 seasons, 25-30 min episodes, and a standalone valentines day special.

Harlem (2021-2023, USA) Ongoing comedy series following four 30-something black women in NYC who are friends trying to balance relationships with their careers. One’s a lesbian player, and another character learns she’s bisexual (with someone else).

Only Murders in the Building (2021-2023, USA) Ongoing sitcom, not especially gay but you learn one of the main trio is bisexual in the second season when she gets a female love interest.

Warrior Nun (2020-2022, USA) Still need to watch the much lauded second season, but a supernatural action series with a sapphic endgame a lot of people are enjoying right now I need to catch up on. Sadly, was not renewed.

A League Of Their Own (2022, USA) A fun series that is so extremely gay I needed to lie down after the night club episode. Women during WWII try to become professional baseball players, start careers independent of men, and get taken seriously. A delight to watch, but period-typical homophobia, sexism, and racism peppered throughout.

I've said this before and people got mad at me but like... I don't disagree with anything you're saying honestly. Like, OBVIOUSLY a full grown adult shouldn't be fucking a child. That's FUCKED UP.

But I mean, clearly the people who said that didn't think so? I mean, isn't that sort of the problem with this sort of thinking? Everyone thinks that THEIR extremely specific idea of what is and is not reasonable to assume is the right one.

I mean, take furries for instance. Doesn't anyone find it weird that we don't target furries that way? I mean, you may argue that "Well, anthro animals DON'T exist so we're not worried about protecting them" But we've seen SEVERAL groups of furries that have actually ended up being active zoophiles but not many groups of fanfic writers who were actually pedophiles working as some sort of cabal.

Like, I'm not trying to throw furries under the bus. But why do we all assume that we understand that it's harmless as they understand the difference between fiction and reality?

I'm not arguing that it's RIGHT or WRONG, I'm arguing that there seems to be no cohesion in what most of the 'progressive sphere' regards as being kosher.

Why is it that we assume someone writing that sort of fiction is some sort of deviant and not just someone who want to see the actors portraying those characters together and yet assume differently for any other kink?

I think there is an ulterior motive to cause bouts of accusations and recrimination in queer spaces and that young queer people were wrong made to believe that this would benefit them, when really this rhetoric just feeds alt-right orgs like Gays Against Groomers.

They know what they're doing. And many progressives in our spaces don't want to hear it because accusations have become a good way to get rid of those you don't like with flimsy evidence and even flimsier arguments. Once someone asked me to help them get rid of @blueheavensims because he was making poseboxes that were 'kind of rapey' and when I was like "'would you be willing to help me contact that advertisers for hunter420x's website, who has actual animations of children being molested" she was like "no, sorry".

and while I'm not naming names, this is someone that many of you know and respect as a simmer with 'good values'.

This isn't about what you should and shouldn't be allowed to write because honestly that was never the issue. It was about giving young progressives the rhetorical tools to destroy themselves for petty interpersonal drama while the right reaps the reward of figuring out how to get queers to accuse THEMSELVES of being pedophiles by co-opting progressive language.

Everytime I see a 20 year old with a 'dni proship' i assume its someone who would spit on an actual SA victim before helping them. You just pretend to care about this shit because it makes you feel like a better person when you're trying to ruin someone's life.

TL;DR: Write whatever the fuck you want. The people who will get mad at you generally care less about you doing it than how it looks. They'll tear down the person who said something they don't like over the actual powerful pederast every time. It's all performative bullshit.

oh my god. I'm sorry for sending all these asks lmao you never have to read or post them I just gotta. I connected my su she thoughts to the interaction in svsss that made me think them initially, so this is about Ming Fan, and not Su She. When Shen yuan is outside of the book, like us, it's fine to look at the cannon fodder characters and to know they are cannon fodder. characters are not people, they can't be mistreated like people, etc. but when he's IN the story, he stops (relatively gradually) interacting with the characters As characters and starts interacting with them as people. Not roles in a narrative, but complex, and with potentiality. (It takes him longer to do it with Lbh but that's something else). Characters, when viewed from the outside, by us, are cogs in a machine that we can project on and play with, but they are cogs and they are fixed. When viewed from the inside, they become moving, living creatures, with an unknown future, agentivity, etc. What Bothers Me Then, about Su She, and was highlighted by Shen Qingqiu having empathy for Ming Fan, is that often times, characters from within the narrative look at him (su she) like they're outside of it. They Know he's cannon fodder. They Know he can be punished without consequences, They Know he's never gonna be good for anything else and never had anything good to say. And they're right, and the story will reward them for knowing. This isn't about Su She or Ming Fan being complex or being more than just evil. (Ming Fan gets to veer of course precisely because that gaze on him changes, which I suppose might be the point of svsss). Su She can be garbage fire if the story requires it. He can be trash man. It's fine. It's about other characters within the same story treating him like they're the readers or the author, and Knowing that he's nothing but bad, or cannon fodder. You can know what's going on in your story, but your characters should not know what's going on in the real world (unless you're being subversive). There, I got it. Personally I think you brought up a lot of good points and really made me think about something I've never considered before. Imo where Ming Fan is positioned as canon fodder from a narrative standpoint, Su She takes on that role less out of necessity and more as a side effect of Wei Wuxian's idrc perspective on life-- wwx doesn't see Su She as canon fodder because he doesn't see him at all, he's neutral in wwx's story because he's non-existent in his memory. Where Ming Fan is static in that he's a trope, Su She is static in that he's sort of one of the classmates you had in high school that you might just barely be able to remember if you heard his name at a class reunion or something. Where your thoughts come in is how this intersects with fandom I think-- because there's all that blank space there, fans fill in the gaps with what they think Su She should be, which defaults more often than not to a character egregious enough to be justifiably disregarded by the main character. Obviously not saying Su She is intended to be good, but I do feel like there is like . An unconscious protagonism atmosphere that makes people eager to assign side characters tropey antagonistic or protagonistic roles in the main character's life that does permeate a lot of mdzs fandom. So full circle back to scum villain and Ming Fan becoming the school bully(tm) and only that of binghe's life! Hahaha this is so fun

Aether Sail MMO/ Treasure Planet MMO

i am a person of many ideas, all of them too much for me to do, so after many years of hoarding my ideas, and without making any progress towards any of them, i have decided to make some of my ideas public, i started with the RPG system that now has a blog that i will probably not post that much, so i ask you to judge this without thinking the scope is too big or whatever, i know all of that all too painfully, but i want to interact and maybe if this gets enough popularity i will get a contract or something. if you do decide to make my idea, please get in contact, i can work for you.

so, the basic idea is a MMORPG with Treasure Planet aesthetics and the 70% Victorian and 30% fantastic, the medium is cell phones, and you play with the phone standing upwards and the game should be made to be played with only one hand, both for accessibility and to make it easier to play. so you slide around to walk and tap to interact, if you interact with a enemy you get into attack mode. the combat should be something close to monster hunter but with a tab target system, idk if this could work but it would interact very well with the notion that you can only do one action at any time.

for guilds, one idea that i found somewhere that i don't remember is, that guilds are badly designed because it assumes that people only have one social circle, so my idea is to make it like Discord servers, where you can get into any numbers of servers you want, but you always get into the lowest role, and you can go up on roles if people like you or any criteria people want. you could also have multiple bank accounts per server and lock the bank accounts by roles, so you can really customize who has what money, and even share accounts with other guilds.

for dungeons, i want something like Tarkov with their loot n' scoot system, or extraction looter if you are boring, basically the idea of going in, getting stuff and either backing off to be safe or going farther to get more at the risk of losing everything you got. so its actually a risk and reward game to get better loot, to support that you can create encampment to create better gear, store loot and get out of game bonus.

PvP is optional, but its guild based, so you are in war against any other player that your guilds are enemies with. so it is optional, but its also social. enemy players can steal your items from boxes that otherwise they couldn't access, open doors, even if with some difficulty, and other PvP related stuff. to support that you have guild options that make you not enemies with everyone or be enemies with everyone (except if they have the previous setting activated). idk how overlapping would work, but i think its a good system overall.

for cities i think people should be able to buy terrain and houses, with limits, and create things like shops, also have a way for players to create laws and stuff, so basically player driven bureaucracy, that could be fun if balanced for fun, even if might generate too much conflict and be bad for some players.

crafting is something that i thought some amount of it, and i am thinking chore play, so instead of having placing things in a grid and happening instantly, something closer to Potion Craft, with some real physicality to it to make it satisfying, with a bunch of materials and ways to mix them to make it crunchy and let information on how to make some type of material be a political tool, a new way to interact with other players, so if you have a specific recipe that you got from dismantling a specific weapon.

notes are a way to create notes, you can at any time create a note and put information at it, you can sign them and they keep day and hour of creation or last change, they can work as documents, patterns of drawings like Animal Crossing, work like checks, material recipes to make crafting faster but at the risk of people discovering your recipes, and to give people temporary guild roles or other permissions. you can seal notes with wax and stamp it with a pattern. you can also create coins the same way, but not like the original coin, but side coins, so its really a player driven economy, player created coins need a stamp and a material to be made.

combat is like monster hunter but tab targeted, so you aim at the enemy you tap and get your weapons, and when you tap you attack, if you drag you move, if you slide quickly you can dash or roll depending on the distance and you have a block/parry or secondary attack button, a change weapon button, a change target button and 3 abilities buttons. so the combat is about playing towards the win condition of your weapon and using abilities to create openings or getting a big payoff from openings. the enemies would stun or throw you away with every hit, regardless of damage to make you really change how you play depending on what they do, but if you parry attacks you have a chance to throw the enemy away and if the enemy is really big you need multiple people to parry to push the enemy back.

Hades like dialogue, just add something about a player or tell a myth or something interesting but prioritizing things that are important.

and contest that the players can create to play around with other players, basically create rules for a sport or a arena, ways to allow light hearted conflict between players. be a fight to glory or a fashion show, ways to facilitate that type of stuff.

out of game bonus like World of Warcraft, but you can get better ones if you are in a good city or has a decorated house.

for monetization i would like a premium currency that you can trade with other players for coins only, but you can buy something from the game, but i am not sure what, probably some convenience or fuel for better out of game bonus. i think any form of monetization hurts the game, but this hurts the game less.

ships, with a velocity based on cloth released, and functions like cannon, helm, boarder and engineer, idk if the canons should use ammo or have a cd. we have a radar, that has info about enemies like position, speed, cooldowns, so its worth to keep someone there. idk how to make this exactly, but in Starfinder each spaceship has a number of rooms that it has to be able to hold stuff, so something like that, basically a room for people to sleep, a room for medicine stuff, a room for radars, basically space slots, but the trade off would be speed for size.

- marcus is naked more often than not. he will put clothes on if guests are coming over, if its a delivery he'll put a bathrobe on for 5 minutes. but aside from that he's naked which can be useful...

- if you like wine plenty will be consumed in the household, thanks to clem supplying it. your boys will fight to refill your glass if you ask for more

- they are all chaos at events/parties, especially if there's alcohol but james Will wander off and make friends with random people. he also gets very emotional about you when he'a drunk

-the sleeping arrangement is key, marcus likes his head on your tummy, james and clem spoon with clem snuggled up to you. sometimes james sleeps cuddled up to you but not often.

- clem submits to you the easiest, a bit of cooing abd hairplay and he's on his knees for you

OH MY GOD I LOVE THESE THOUGHTS SO MUCH!! They're all so good. I'm actually gonna discuss a little bit about each of these thoughts because they're all so so good and I must discuss them all. (I think this au might be new obsession, so if anyone has more thoughts, now is absolutely the time)

MARCUS AND CLOTHES:

I mean yeah, the moment he's comfortable then he's gonna have no clothes on. So much so that you guys can't bring friends home with our warning him otherwise they might be greeted by a naked Marcus.

Especially because Marcus tends to run to the door the moment one of you arrive? He wants to see who is there, and if he can get a kiss from them. Which means that more often than not, whoever comes home gets jumped by a naked Marcus.

But also, none of you tease him about this? There's this unwritten rule that you don't make fun of it because then he'd stop and be uncomfortable and that's unacceptable.

He's also always trying to get everyone else to join him. He's the most successful with clem. Like he'll be cuddling you and the next thing you know he's got his hands under your shirt, telling you that you should take it off, giving you his best horny puppy eyes.

WINE:

Oh god they will so fight to refill your glass!! Because clem knows the most about wine (and he's bit of a service sub), you always let clem tell you about the wine you're drinking and he very much enjoys it. If the wine is for the podcast, then he'll tell you about it beforehand, just because he wants hear you tell him he's very smart and put lots of thought into the chosen wine.

The moment clem is finished telling you about the wine, Marcus and James are right there ready to fight each other to fill your glass. You always roll your eyes at them, but this is very serious business!! You usually let James do it first, Marcus always tries to play dirty to do it first and that can't be rewarded.

There are so many evenings spent sipping wine and chatting, with Marcus and clem in various stages of undress throughout the night. In the end it just turns into sex, because of course it does.

PARTIES:

Oh god it's like trying to wrangle kittens. James is usually pretty well behaved until he gets a few drinks in him and then he's making friends with random people. Which is cute, except for when it's time to go home because you have to convince him to leave his new friends.

But he also always ends up befriending the most helpful people and somehow seems to know everyone? There's never been an event you've attended without James somehow knowing someone.

clem is a very happy, giggly drunk and he LOVES dancing. He'll often get dragged into whatever chaos James is causing, which at least means if you find one you'll find the other.

And Marcus is where the real chaos starts, because he gets horny after a few drinks. And not just mildly horny, I mean grinding against you and pressing open kisses to your neck horny. He gets drunk and then he wants to be absolutely RAILED.

So usually you know it's time to go home when Marcus is one shot away from being arrested for public indecency. Which is also a great way to get clem and James moving, because the moment they hear Marcus would like to be fucked then suddenly they're more than happy to leave their new friends.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS:

I love the idea that Marcus wants to sleep on your tummy? It's so nice and so soft!! He loves it!! And he will be very upset if someone else has taken that spot when he gets to bed.

Especially because he spends so much time away from you three? He rarely ever gets a few days where he can share a bed with all his loves and so when he can, he wants to have the spot on your tummy. James or Clem can take that spot when he isnt there.

And small spoon clem!! Incredible!! Sometimes he'll even drop his hand down to touch Marcus? So he's cuddled up to your side, touching Marcus who is on your tummy and then James spooning clem from behind. It's perfect.

It's especially good because James often works late, so he'll come to bed and the three of you are already asleep, so he'll just slip into bed and hug clem from behind. Clem also often will turn in his sleep and end up snuggled against James's chest.

And oh god I love the idea that sometimes James snuggles up you as welL? I think that you always have to watch out for James, because he struggles with expressing when he needs more support. Marcus and Clem will just take the support that they need, but James will become more withdrawn and you have to pull him back and find out what he needs.

And the best way to do that is often to offer to let him snuggle up to you, just a silent support system. Whenever you ask that, clem never complains about his place being taken because he realises it's important for James. Then clem will be the big spoon! He'll hug James from behind and sometimes Marcus will even move further up to rest against your chest so that he can be closer to James.

WHO SUBMITS THE EASIEST:

Yeah clem is the easiest by far, and I think he really enjoys easy non-sexual kink? He'll love to kneel for you, get handfed, etc. Marcus and James enjoy that side of kink as well, but they want to work for it.

They won't accept an offer to kneel for you unless you give them a task to do first so that they feel like they really deserve it. Like you'll tell James he has to go hand wash the dishes and wants that's done, he can come kneel with clem and then he'll rush to do the dishes, but he won't feel like he deserves to kneel for you if he hasn't done something first.

I think that Marcus can often be the hardest to get to submit? Just because he requires a firmer hand sometimes, he can get lost in his own head and struggle to find that floaty headspace without you guiding him there. That does sometimes require pushing him against a wall, choking him and making him grind against your thigh, wrecking him until he's sobbing and begging and only then can he find that calmness he needs.
