okay finally it’s time for the post i said i’ll do
succession characters and the perfume i think they probably wear (based on my impression)
(ps: i can’t afford any of this. im a broke perfume collector)
start with the man, the myth, the legend who inspired me to make this post, my beloved manwhore stewy: tom ford is the only option. i have the sample of tom ford black orchid which is… very hard to pull off (dude you put truffle in the perfume tf😭). you have to be THAT B*TCH to survive and it really reminds me of stewy. Even though black orchid is ~$140, it’s probably his cheapest perfume… he probably uses something more expensive from tom ford private blend, like f*cking fabulous (yes that’s the name) or noir de noir. both are woody scent with vanilla, but f*cking fabulous is more leathery while noir de noir has oud, which smells very middle eastern billionaire (also they’re like… $500 for 100ml) (god i wish i could try them)
Tumblr media
the easiest one for me, princess diana tom wambsgans: before he married shiv and got the news position he probably used veryyy mass male perfume like dior sauvage just bc people say it’s good… but then he got the promotion! well then, he has to use something richer now, so i’ll go with creed aventus (aka ‘the basic rich man perfume’) it’s freaking $300, sweet, fruity but also very masculine with a tagline like a gift from father to son or something like that lol
Tumblr media
next, another easy one for me, roman: versace eros flame is the only one that can match his immaculate vibe, also ppl who use this perfume cant be cishet. it’s spicy, citrusy with vanilla scent, not that expensive i think he doesn’t really care
Tumblr media
now we need gerri: she probably uses perfume that is classic and confident (chanel no.5, nahh too basic) i think she uses guerlain shalimar, which is citrusy, warm, a little smoky and leathery. the scent is hard to pull off but gerri is THAT milf so she’s fine
Tumblr media
next girlboss, shiv: she’s the type to use expensive, niche and unisex perfume to assert power, so i think penhaligon’s halfeti leather (~$300) is perfect: british brand, leathery, woody, spicy, smoky, similar notes to male perfumes but has a touch of sweetness from plum and rose. other choices i think shiv might use are something from nishane or juliette has a gun (niche, around $135-200)
Tumblr media
now we enter the ‘difficult for me’ territory
kendall: does he even mentally healthy enough to take a shower😭 (poor little meow meow) i think he used something borrowed from stewy (which is not his vibe AT ALL) while they’re in college together, but now he probably uses something easy, inoffensive but still pretty luxurious like maison francis kurkdjian gentle fluidity silver: very fresh, clean, aromatic scent, seems put together (anyway this one costs $185.5). kendall might also use jo malone too imo. it’s simple, natural scent (but some scents can be tooooo natural like why is it so green am i a bug or something😭)
Tumblr media
greg, oh greg my baby: like tom, his perfume journey developed as he stepped up the position. he probably started from using axe😔 >> to more legit but still affordable perfume. i think of ck one or ck be, which are green and fresh scent >>> then he moved to more expensive designer perfume like dior sauvage (the same one with tom, you know, influence) or bleu de chanel (which is quite similar to sauvage but fresher) >>> but now that he has more power in his hands, i think he’ll use mfk like kendall but it’ll be maison francis kurkdjian amyris homme (still fresh and sweet. also it has milk chocolate note, not really obvious but i think it’s cute) i think greg wouldn’t use heavy, offensive perfume. his taste is more likely to be younger and fresher (amyris homme is ~$175) (not related to the point but i got this full size at $83, which is probably the proudest achievement in my entire life lol)
Tumblr media
now, logan: does he even use perfume???? if he uses one it’s probably classic perfume like creed cuir de russie (first released in 1953): very masculine, woody, leathery, smells like power, or something cheaper he has used since young like aramis (released in 1966): spicy, heavy, woody
Tumblr media
connor: no this man doesn’t use perfume, but if he has to use for his *presidential campaign* or whatever he probably uses basic rich man perfume like something from creed
Also here’s a bonus for yall tomgreg nations, the perfume that reminds me of them
(im that b*tch who assigned signature scent for every otp, partly as an excuse to buy more perfume. mostly it’s just bath and body works but like,,,, this is succession i can’t do b&bw😩)
it’s moschino toy boy (the name tho, phew!) it’s a pink peppery perfume that gets sweeter with rose and amber as it dries down (sometimes i can hardly smells the rose tho, idk if it’s bc i got used to the scent or it’s some body chemistry sh*t). i smelled this last week and i was like,,,, yeah it’s tomgreg toxic by britney spears vibe i need to buy this
Tumblr media
im still finding the scent for stendall. maybe replica jazz club or maison christian dior vanilla diorama (rum, vanilla, tobacco scent) (i actually have mcd sample but ive never tried it on my body before) or something sweet and intoxicating. maybe carolina herrera good girl legere, which is women perfume but who cares
edit: i fell asleep before posting the perfume that reminds me of roman x gerri. i have resurrected now so here’s the late update. in my mind this perfume has to be classic/vintage, with very prominent notes (like spice or citrus), does’t have to be that expensive, ALSO RED. boom! that’s exactly guerlain samsara (guerlain again for gerri!): kinda on the old lady powdery scent side, but also warm, woody, sweet floral vanilla, and a little spicy👀 perfect

Eren Meta From 139
Many people believe chapter 139 butchered Eren's character because of this scene.
Tumblr media
Because out of nowhere, Eren's motivation is to reach Mikasa's choice to satisfy Ymir's wish; thus, everything he said from the beginning about his motivation is all lies or meaningless.
No. And I'm no writing this to justify or condemn him. This post is more for myself, because I'm trying to understand his character.
Now let's see at his words. "All of it, was to arrive at that result. That's why I moved forward." What does he mean by it? Which actions?
Tumblr media
This.
All the events, starting from ch 123-139, are going according to Ymir's wish.
Right after Eren told her to decide for herself.
Tumblr media
She wants to end the world, at least 80% of it. She wants to push Eren's friends to stop him, even if they have to betray their nation. The Battle of Heaven and Earth, all of the clusterfucks in chapter 135-138 happens because it's Ymir's will to push Mikasa to make a choice. She chooses to end the titan curse after she gets to see what she wants.
Ymir did all of this, she watched all the events that unfold because Eren released her.
Then, what about Eren's will?
This is why I'm okay with the idea of Eren following Ymir; Eren doesn't have a reason to reject Ymir's wish because he got what he wants. He got the future he saw on the medal ceremony, the eradication of titans. He got the "freedom" to flatten the earth, and if his gamble paid off, he'd get his friends' safety; because they will become the world's savior after they stop him. It's a win-win situation, thus, putting him in a position where he becomes Ymir's ally and stands by her side.
Tumblr media
The reason why Ymir chose Mikasa is not clear, but Eren had a hunch and it's something he could relate to; another reason for him to not object to Ymir's wish. It has something to do with that day when Mikasa practically confessed her love for him, the day where he could use the Founder's power for the first time. I leave this scene up to your interpretation.
What about Eren's will from before 123? What did he try so hard to achieve?
Tumblr media
This scenery. Aside from the eradication of titans.
Here's the thing. Doesn't matter if fate favors you or not, you have to work hard to get what you want. To work hard, you need to know the reason. I take Isayama's artistic choice that the future memories he saw are fragments without context; he doesn't know why it happens the way it would. So, even if he saw the scenery, even if he saw the eradication of titans, why he has to go to hell first? Why he has to go through all of the suffering? Why he has to keep moving forward? He doesn't have to; but the world, destiny or whatever keeps feeding him reasons to move forward, until he reached a conclusion that the titan world is fucked up system and has been going for far too long. For Eren, this needs to end, and he wants to reach that scenery no matter what.
This is the man who saw how unforgiving the outside world is. The fact that a little girl got eaten by dogs just because she's an Eldia is proof that a subject of Ymir can never gain freedom, can never gain the privilege of human rights the way a normal human does. (I suggest you to read Gross' monologue from ch 87). The man saw how the world keeps pushing Paradis to be the source of evil without listening to what the other parties have to say. The man is manipulated to euthanize his own people as if Eldia doesn't deserve to be born. He saw the fucked up history of titans from 2000 years ago. He was so disappointed the world is not like in Armin's book, it's not like his ideal world. So he wants to wipe it away. He wants to bury the history and the civilization that created it, deep to the ground. He wants to destroy every last one of those animals, that's on this earth; titans or humans alike. He wants to leave the surface a blank plain. This is his ideal world, his freedom.
Eren said it himself. Even if he didn't know that his friends would stop him; even if it's not Ymir's will, he'd still trample the earth. To me, the reason why Eren commit genocide, the reason he said to Armin is no different than the reason he said to Zeke.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's just the way he is ever since he was born.
A freedom seeker.
The wording is different with the receiver. With Zeke, it's different, because he's trying to make a point that this is who he is. But with Armin? He is going to die, with his best friend as his judge. He knew exactly why he wanted it: because he is free, ever since he was born. But somehow he couldn't say it outright with confidence. Maybe he's afraid to be judged as a monster by the person closest to him, or maybe he started to question his definition of freedom. Because to me, his eyes look like wonders.
Now. What is freedom? Many people believe that any acts out of violence is not freedom. But to Eren, that is freedom, his freedom. There's a meta that perfectly explains Eren's version of freedom, up until he did the rumbling. This is my highlight from that meta:
So freedom is the power of the individual to do as one wants. When you do something, you are imposing your internal desires onto the external world. If freedom is thus the power to impose your individual Will onto the outside world, then whoever has more power has more freedom.
This concept was highlighted when he told his friends in Paths that he's free to destroy the world and they're free to defend it; meaning that they're bound to clash, and they have to fight.
Freedom is not good. Nor is it bad. It is a force beyond good and evil, and that is precisely why it is terrifying. This, I believe, is why so many baulk at the idea that such a ruthless manipulator could be the avatar of freedom in this story. What I have always loved about SNK is how it delves ever deeper into its themes as the story goes on and discovers such fundamental paradoxes that your understanding of the idea is changed forever. If this is the horrifying face of freedom, perhaps we should not be free.
I don't know how much Isayama's involvement in this, but Grisha's commentary from the Lost Girls captures this concept perfectly.
Tumblr media
For Eren, that "great power" is his own concept of freedom: A world without oppression. Doing what you want to do. He's free to protect his homeland by whatever necessary, whatever cost, and leave the rest of the world as an open plain.
Usually, the more we're obsessed with something, the more we stray from our humanity. After witnessing firsthand the vision-he-so-called-freedom, he doesn't know how to feel. He gets what he wants, but he's not happy at all, only the hollow scenery remains.
Eren realized how messed up he is, even before he did this. He tried to reach out to Mikasa that night after he saved Ramzi, to save his humanity left. It's one of the reasons why he asked her, "what is he to her?" Surely if he was loved –even after he killed those men when he saved her that day– would mean he's still human, right? And by running away with her, he could live in peace, maybe he could free himself from his obsession. But he's doing it so half-heartedly, that when everyone interrupted them, he just... let it go. He didn't bother to sneak with her or anything. He couldn't let go of the future he saw, he's losing himself to his desire/inner demon, to his obsession of freedom. Or maybe he's winning over his pathetic self so he could focus on what he needs to do? One could interpret this scene as Eren trying to break free from his obsession for "freedom." One could interpret this scene as Eren trying to break free from the shackles of his conscience. It's up to you.
Eren's outburst over Mikasa in this chapter is his pent-up feeling over her. It is, but after I write this meta, maybe it's more than that. It's because she's the proof of his humanity left. Many, many times, Mikasa is there to stop him from ruining himself. Mikasa's love creates a subconscious understanding that she will always be there for him. That's a part of her that he loves, and by feeling love, it means his humanity still exists. If Mikasa chooses to move on with another man, it means she will forget all the times they had together, she will forget the most human side of him. The only person who loves him as who he is, his home, would be lost. He would be lost. That idea scares him, even though he knows he doesn't deserve her love after everything he has done.
One more thing; another reason why Eren doesn't mind to be stopped, aside from Ymir's wish will get him what he wants –as I already explained. People argue that the conflict won't end until Paradis or the rest of the world remains; thus, Eren's half-hearted genocide is meaningless. No. No matter how angry he is that he wants to eradicate everything, he has enough maturity to understand, even back from the Battle of Trost, that humanity is far from united even if they're faced against a threat beyond human understanding. During the after-party night before the Battle of Shiganshina, he accepts that great power comes from joining ourselves together. We all need to find our own roles. Humans are created differently, because of times like this. By sparing the rest of the world, it keeps both Paradis and the world from collapsing. By keeping the diversity of people, someday it will open a path for peace because it's a part of human nature to try to understand each other; he learned it from the SC. Eren believes Armin could take him there, after he died. Maybe he forgot all of that because he's too caught up in his hate and anger up until 122, the same way he forgot back in the days.
Tumblr media
Even if it's not explicitly explained in this chapter, I'd like to think that Eren got plenty of time to reflect on this matter when he did the Rumbling, to fill the emptiness he felt after he reached what he wants wanted.
Eren wins in the end, but at what cost? This chapter is calling out his tyrannical mindset, and it's great to see him realized his error, even if it's too late for him to go back.
Maybe this is what Isayama decided to focus on the last chapter, even if it's rushed. Maybe he (or his editor, idk) wanted the ending to focus on the protagonist's story about humans vs titans. The way Eren is so determined to wipe it out from this world, no matter how messed up his method, no matter how much he suffers, it doesn't matter if it's predestined or not. Because "freedom" is what he seeks ever since he was born. Because Eldia, every person deserves to be born in this world. Yes, every person, including everyone he killed. He knew the gravity of his action and choose to accept his death. Maybe it's the reason why Isayama doesn't delve into the aftermath of genocide further.
He wants the ending to be about Eren Yeager, The Attack Titan's journey about Attack. On. Titan.

How to Build a Life There Are Two Kinds of Happy People
Some of us strive for a virtuous life. Others strive for a pleasant one. We could all use a better balance. Arthur C. Brooks  January 28, 2021
One person touches the needles of a cactus while another smells the cactus flowers.   JAN BUCHCZIK
“How to Build a Life” is a weekly column by Arthur Brooks, tackling questions of meaning and happiness.
These days, we are offered a dizzying variety of secrets to happiness. Some are ways of life: Give to others; practice gratitude. Others are minor hacks: Eat kale; play a board game. Some are simply an effort to make a buck.
I have found that most of the serious approaches to happiness can be mapped onto two ancient traditions, promoted by the Greek philosophers Epicurus and Epictetus. In a nutshell, they focus on enjoyment and virtue, respectively. Individuals typically gravitate toward one style or the other, and many major philosophies have followed one path or the other for about two millennia. Understanding where you sit between the two can tell you a lot about yourself—including your happiness weak points—and help you create strategies for a more balanced approach to life.
Epicurus (341–270 B.C.) led an eponymous school of thought—Epicureanism—that believed a happy life requires two things: ataraxia (freedom from mental disturbance) and aponia (the absence of physical pain). His philosophy might be characterized as “If it is scary or painful, work to avoid it.” Epicureans see discomfort as generally negative, and thus the elimination of threats and problems as the key to a happier life. Don’t get the impression that I am saying they are lazy or unmotivated—quite the contrary, in many cases. But they don’t see enduring fear and pain as inherently necessary or beneficial, and they focus instead on enjoying life.
Epictetus (c. 50–c. 135 A.D.) was one of the most prominent Stoic philosophers, who believed happiness comes from finding life’s purpose, accepting one’s fate, and behaving morally regardless of the personal cost. His philosophy could be summarized as, “Grow a spine and do your duty.” People who follow a Stoic style see happiness as something earned through a good deal of sacrifice. Not surprisingly, Stoics are generally hard workers who live for the future and are willing to incur substantial personal cost to meet their life’s purpose (as they see it) without much complaining. They see the key to happiness as working through pain and fear, not actively avoiding them.
Epicureans and Stoics can coexist, and even cohabitate (my wife and I have such a mixed marriage). But in my experience, Stoics and Epicureans tend to look down on one another, and appear to have been doing so for about as long as both philosophies have existed. The 3rd-century biographer Diogenes Laërtius wrote that “Epictetus calls [Epicurus a] preacher of effeminacy and showers abuse on him.” While there’s no historical record of it, I can easily imagine Epicurus responding to Epictetus, “You totally need to chill out.”
For roughly 2,000 years, philosophers have asked which approach leads to greater happiness and a better life. My purpose here is different. Both views have virtues and weaknesses. I want to know what each of us, given our natural tendency toward one of the approaches, can learn and adopt from the other.
For Epicurus, unhappiness came from negative thoughts, including needless guilt, fear of things we can’t control, and a focus on the inevitable unpleasant parts of life. The solution was to banish them from the mind. To this end, he proposed a “four-part cure”: Don’t fear God; don’t worry about death; what is good is easy to get (by lowering our expectations for what we need to be happy); what is terrible is easy to endure (by concentrating on pleasant things even in the midst of suffering). This is made all the easier when we surround ourselves with friendly people in a peaceful environment.
Epicurus promoted hedonia, from which we derive the word hedonism. However, he would not have recognized our current usage of the term. The secret to banishing negative thoughts, according to Epicurus, is not mindless debauchery—despite the baseless rumors that he led wild parties and orgies, he taught that thoughtlessly grabbing easy worldly pleasures is a mistake, because ultimately they don’t satisfy. Instead, reason was Epicurus’s best weapon against the blues. For example, here is the mantra he suggests we tell ourselves when the fear of death strikes: “Death does not concern us, because as long as we exist, death is not here. And when it does come, we no longer exist.”
In contrast to hedonia, the Stoic approach is known as eudaimonia, which might be defined as a life devoted to our greatest potential in service of our highest ideals. Stoicism is characterized by the principles of naturalism and moralism—changing the things we can to make life better while also accepting the things we can’t change. (The “Serenity Prayer” is very Stoic.) “Don’t demand that things happen as you wish,” Epictetus wrote in The Enchiridion, “but wish that they happen as they do happen, and you will go on well.”
Moralism is the principle that moral virtue is to be defined and followed for its own sake. “Tell yourself, first of all, what kind of man you want to be,” Epictetus wrote in his Discourses, “and then go ahead with what you are doing.” In other words, create a code of virtuous conduct for yourself and live by it, with no loopholes for convenience.
Epicureans and Stoics are encouraged to focus their attention on different aspects of life—and death. Epicurus’s philosophy suggested that we should think intently about happiness, while for Stoics, the paradox of happiness is that to attain it, we must forget about it; with luck, happiness will come as we pursue life’s purpose. Meanwhile, Epicurus encourages us to disregard death while we are alive, and Epictetus insists that we confront it and ponder it regularly, much like the maranasati meditation in Buddhism, in which monks contemplate their own deaths and stages of decay.
No research to date asks why some people are naturally more Epicurean and others more Stoic. No doubt there is a genetic component, given the large percentage of personality that sits encoded somewhere in our DNA. But nurture likely also plays a role: In one study, a scholar found that parents who modeled and endorsed eudaimonia had kids who engaged in eudaimonic pursuits. Meanwhile, parents who role-modeled hedonia had kids who grew up to derive pleasure primarily from this model. The implication is pretty clear: If you want children who principally pursue duty and honor, do so yourself. If instead you strive to achieve happiness by minimizing pain, your kids probably will too.
People have argued for centuries about which approach is better for happiness, but they largely talk past one another. In truth, each pursues different aspects of happiness: Epicurus’s style brings pleasure and enjoyment; Epictetus’s method delivers meaning and purpose. As happiness scholars note, a good blend of these things is likeliest to deliver a truly happy life. Too much of one—a life of trivial enjoyment or one of grim determination—will not produce a life well lived, as most of us see it.
The big question is, therefore, how people can manufacture a good blend in their lives between the two approaches. Here are three ideas.
1. Know thyself.
This expression is one of the Delphic maxims, carved into the pronaos of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi in ancient Greece. It acknowledges the fundamental truth that we can’t make forward progress in life if we don’t know where we are situated right now. Answering the question thus starts with an informal but honest answer to this question: When my mood is low, do I naturally look to increase my level of pleasure and enjoyment, or do I focus on meaning and purpose in my life? The former is a sign that you tend toward being an Epicurean, the latter that you are more of a Stoic.
More scientifically, several research-based tools to judge Epicurean or Stoic tendencies have been developed. For example, scholars fielded a survey in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that helps uncover hedonistic tendencies. The “Meaning in Life Questionnaire” from the University of Pennsylvania’s Authentic Happiness Questionnaire Center arguably measures eudaimonic tendencies quite well. (On this test, I learned that I am near the top of the population in my efforts to search for meaning in life, but below average in having found it.)
2. Beef up the other side.
The key to blending enjoyment and meaning is not to suppress what you have, but to bolster what you lack. Once you have situated yourself on the spectrum, you can formulate a strategy to strengthen the discipline you are missing (assuming that you’re not in the middle already).
At the end of each day, you might examine the events you experienced, and ask yourself harmonizing questions. For example:
Did this event bring me enjoyment? Did it also bring me meaning?    Did this make me feel afraid? Did I learn something from this fear that will lead to less fear in the future?    Did this serve my interests? Did it serve the interest of others?
Make resolutions that attempt to achieve yes-yes combinations to these questions.
You can also engage in concrete exercises that remediate your weakness. Stoics, for example, might program regular weekends away with friends, leaving all work at home. Meanwhile, Epicureans might do something difficult and strenuous like training for a marathon. Stoics should read this column about happiness and discuss it during their weekends away. Epicureans should spend their running time pondering the reality and meaning of death. 3. Build a happiness portfolio that uses both approaches.
Finally, it is important to pursue life goals in which each happiness approach reinforces the other. That portfolio is simple, and I have written about it before: Make sure your life includes faith, family, friendship, and work in which you earn your success and serve others. Each of these elements flexes both the Stoic and the Epicurean muscles: All four require that we be fully present in an Epicurean sense and that we also work hard and adhere to strong commitments in a Stoic sense.
The deeper point in all this is an ancient one: A balanced approach to happiness in life is best. In his essay “The Natural History of Intellect,” Ralph Waldo Emerson put it concisely: “Characters and talents are complemental and suppletory. The world stands by balanced antagonisms.”
Read: The three equations for a happy life, even during a pandemic
That’s easier said than done, of course. Whether Epicurean or Stoic, we always want to double down on what comes naturally to us. But that is the road to excess, which ultimately leads us away from well-being. “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,” goes the old proverb. In 1825, the novelist Maria Edgeworth added a second line: “All play and no work makes Jack a mere toy.” Just so.
So to all you Stoics: Take the night off. And to all you Epicureans: Time to get back to work.

Hewwo all !!! :3
I am need of some Assistance with mine life lol since this is really REALLY long cuz I lack the ability to be concise have a TDLR and also a read more lol:
Basically I need help paying to go to planned parenthood to try and get a gel testosterone ! I’m assuming it will cost around 250 for both ! And tw for needles and injections ? Just in case !
Also If u can’t donate it’s ok ! I know I always feel big guilty when all I can do is rb but bro !!! we r all just going thru it bro !!!!!! I llove u !! 😔🥺💖🥰
Recently some wild things have gone down in my life and if u wanted a full rundown I could give it to u but a) it’s a REALLY REALLY REALLY long story and b) really I only need help with one part
Let’s begin shall we ?
The parent that was providing for me to start/continue my transition isn’t supporting me financially anymore (for ANYTHING) I have very limited income and currently all of my money is going to fixing a snafu with my car insurance, my tags, paying for two storage units with all of my families stuff in it and whatever random issues pop up in my life like buying my sibling a new pair of shoes for school & paying for both of us to have phones tht work lol My car is a huge part in how much money I have at any time as I get payed to take my brother to and from work
I have that part mostly covered ! The thing I really need help with is my Testosterone
I really don’t have any leftover money after delegating and putting any money away for my testosterone is really hard since I keep having to dip into what I’ve saved for it
I need to go back to planned parenthood and try to get a gel to replace the injection method as I am SO bad at jabbing myself I’m afraid I’m gonna do more damage than I already have
(Here’s where the tw comes in 😳)
The last time I tried to give myself an injection i caused enough damage that my leg was in extreme pain that traveled from my thigh down to just under my knee for several days on top of that one of my thighs has a bruise under the skin from a previous injection for a while now and is still a bit tender to the touch bc I really fucked that one up......At this point Id been putting off injections because of how afraid i was of hurting myself and how my fear makes me more likely to hesitate and therefore more likely fuck it up again (U may absolutely call me dumb if u wish it’s valid in my case aksnskssk)
I am aware that a gel testosterone is MUCH more expensive than the injections but I’ve looked around and found coupons for the most commonly used gel so I’m hoping it won’t cost me quite as much using those :] though I am not aware of what the initial price is going to be since it’ll be thru pp IM sort of guessemating the price and hoping that i have some sort of wiggle room just in case
The cost is for both the visit to pp and hopefully to cover the prescription (my insurance does NOT cover the visit unfortunately :[ it would be really nice if it did) The last visit I had at pp cost me about 130 but they can range from 80-135 depending on what happens during the visit (if I’m remembering correctly !) I’m hoping my visit will be in the 80 range since they aren’t going to run any tests
I’m gonna assume the gel will cost me about 150 dollars and I’ll see if I can cover the cost myself if it’s any more expensive ! so all in all I think I’ll need around 250 to get this done :] after I know the initial price of the gel I should be able to scrape up the money (hopefully w/the help of coupons !!!!)
if it was just the appt or the prescription by itself I could probably swing it eventually but unfortunately it’s just not high on the priority list when I have any money
I really wouldn’t be asking if I thought I had any other means of getting it realistically.. currently I can’t work due to my mental health (aka extreme social anxiety & depression 😳 lol) but I will probably end up trying to get a job regardless bc I really can’t go on with my life like this. It’s causing a lot of unnecessary stress and worry most nights
I can’t sleep & I am getting constant headaches from all the stress I carry which isn’t helping anything lol
My art isn’t the best but I can draw most things ! So if you’d like a drawing in exchange for a donation please let me know :] it isn’t very polished and little doodles are usually what turns out best ! I can provide examples if u would like me to ! I am also relatively good with my hands so I can make things like traditional art, jewelry and simple little clay statues and pots and send them to u if you later when I have the money for materials and shipping costs if u like :]
This is not life or death or anything so if u feel that ur money is spent better else where I totally understand !

“Eh. Just a bunch of Eh. Good main though!” UFC Fight Night: Mexico
Joey
September 17th, 2019
The UFC decided to take its model for fight cards in Europe and import it over to Mexico for a bit! I think it speaks to the UFC's level of focus for this card that the third fight on this card is in a division they were going to close with two guys they just signed. This is basically a 3-4 fight card; a tremendous featherweight main event, two really interesting fights on paper featuring two top Mexican fighters AND the return of Brandon Moreno vs top flyweight Askar Askarov. Beyond that? Some action fighters, more WMMA, the return of Bethe Correia and some other stuff. It's not a good card but what's at the top is pretty solid. It's also worth offering them a bit of a mulligan since the headliner was supposed to be Brian Ortega vs the Korean Zombie before something fell apart. Either Ortega balked at the fight at first offering or someone in the UFC realized they need a South Korean headliner for their December Korea card. Either way we got what we got here. It's not great but as my sister says "You get what you get and you don't get upset." I also think it's worth pointing out that this card is basically a glorified gift show as the UFC breaks ground on their new PI in Mexico.

Twelve Precarious Ponderings
1- Yair Rodriguez's career since 2017 has taken quite a turn. He started the year dicing up BJ Penn in a showcase fight, got put against Frankie Edgar in what on paper seemed like a mega fight and then had one of the weirdest UFC spats ever. Yair was offered Zabit a few times, Ricardo Lamas once and then referred to a Dana White fight announcement as fake news. Dana cut him and Yair was on the free market for approximately a week or so before Sean Shelby patched things up and cleaned up the mess. Yair repaid the UFC by showing up on two weeks notice to fight the Korean Zombie at high altitude in one of the craziest fights of 2018. Likely down on the cards, Yair hit an upwards elbow that KO'd the Korean Zombie with pretty much the world's greatest buzzer beater KO ever. Yair apparently broke his nose and damaged his lead foot early in that fight which makes it even more amazing that he did what he did. Since then Yair has been pretty much out in nowhere land. He took time off to heal up, was rumored to be fighting in the Summer but instead returns here towards the Fall. He was originally supposed to be the co-main event but when Ortega/Zombie fell through, Yair got the bump up vs Jeremy Stephens. It's worth remembering that Yair Rodriguez is crazy young (JUST 26 years old) and fights in a division where every major prospect gets checked eventually. We've watched a lot of 145 lbers get the business from somebody with more experience or the right kind of style. Even Zabit had a bit of a rough go of it vs Jereemy Stephens.  This feels like a high pressure situation for Yair; a dangerous opponent on a losing streak in a market where chaos has tended to abound (I believe Mexican fighters are 0-3 in main event fights in Mexico). A win here says a lot not just about Yair's talent level but about his poise and maturity given where he was in his career at THIS point last year.
2- Does the fact that Yair and Zabit both have enough similarities offensively allow Jeremy Stephens to go into this fight feeling like he's seen the same guy twice in a row? I'd argue Yair's hands are much better than Zabit's but at the same time, Zabit is a far better wrestler than Yair who is more of a squirrely scrambler type. Either way if you're Stephens, the similarities have to make you feel like you've got something of a leg up going into this fight.
3- Would Yair Rodriguez vs Jose Aldo be an appealing fight for both parties if Yair wins vs Jeremy Stephens?
4- In 2015, Dana White took a photo with both Irene Aldana and Alexa Grasso where he deemed both the future of WMMA. It's been a rather tumultuous run for both ladies since that point and while it'd be fair to offer both mulligans; I think calling them busts relative to the expectations would be somewhat fair. For Irene Aldana, she probably just isn't good enough to ever be a challenger or even a contender for Amanda Nunes. After starting her UFC run with two losses (one in a controversial fashion), Aldana rallied with three straight wins including what felt like the final corner turner vs Bethe Correia. She returned to face Rocky Pennington in a big enough fight and while she started strong, she allowed Pennington to pressure her repeatedly en route to a split decision win. The last round was punctuated by Aldana chasing a go nowhere no hope heel hook as Pennington punched away from on top. Even when she had the opportunity to try and get to her feet, she stuck by her guns and eventually it cost her. Aldana's fight IQ and I guess her willingness to fight to her opponent's strengths continues to burn her. She'll get a soft enough touch vs the debuting Vanessa Melo after a bigger fight with Marion Reneau fell through. For Alexa Grasso; her not progressing feels like a serious bummer. Grasso's ultra talented and athletic in a division where talent + athlete usually means progress. Instead a lack of strength and so-so fight IQ (plus some UFC rush jobs) has hurt her. Grasso looked AMAZING vs Karolina K but Karolina may just be broken beyond belief. It's a long way from 2015 where she was the future of WMMA but Grasso has a chance to still make good (somewhat) on that hype.  It's a tough call though with Carla Esparza.
5- If you remove the fight vs Randa Markos which felt like Markos just coming out with a proverbial death wish, Carla Esparza's losses are to former champ Joanna Jedrzyjeczyk, future #1 contender Tatiana Suarez and former title contender Claudia Gadelha. A win for Grasso would be massive and would probably set her up nicely for another "prove it" fight, likely against Nina Ansaroff.
6- Without looking them up and just on a run sheet alone, could you tell me anything about any fighter after, say, the fourth fight on this card?
7- TUF LAM has given the UFC some pretty damn good fighters. Names like Teco Quinones, Enrique Barzola, Marlon Vera, Moggly Benitez and the aforementioned Yair Rodriguez. That makes it so disappointing that Martin Bravo has not been successful as of yet because he has the natural tools to be on par with those guys. Bravo came into the UFC off of TUF as a crazy body punching all action fighter. He got KO'd in his non-TUF debut vs Humberto Bandenay (who has since gone 0-3 in the UFC) and then followed that up with a loss in a violent war vs Alex Caceres. Bravo's chin seems to be a serious problem and his lack of anything besides a really good body work game and heart/cardio seems to be holding him back. He'll get the perfect guy if he wants an action fight in Steven "Ocho" Peterson in what has to be a loser leaves town fight for both guys.
8- I don't expect Polo Reyes to find much of a home at 145 lbs but I expect to get a few wild brawls and finishes before he eventually gets cut.
9- Brandon Moreno vs Askar Askarov figures to be an absolute hell of a fight but I wonder how much people are going to care as this 125 lb title dangles dangerously in limbo.
10- I cannot believe Vinicius Moreira is still on the UFC roster. Totally flummoxed and perplexed.
11- Speaking of fighters from 2015 that people had high hopes for, Sergio Pettis has gone from being a potential feature piece at 125 lbs or 135 lbs to scrapping this out on the prelims. Remember when the UFC went to Mexico in 2017, Sergio Pettis was the headliner. Now he's looking to find himself in the UFC after jumping weight classes recently with no success.
12- Sajara Eubanks vs Bethe Correia figures to be a stupendous fight, folks. Well worth your time if you want a wild action fight.

I did it, I feel I was able to successfully conquer Rome as a traveler. Rome has been on my dream list for a while, well, to be honest, I dream of visiting a lot of cities. Still, Rome was at the top of my list and I am so glad I was able to experience this robust and unique city. I hope this guide helps you in your travels and that when you visit Rome it is all you ever thought it would be.
Successfully Conquer Rome as a Traveler
Traveling to Rome for the first time
Language
This was my first time in a country where English was not their first language and I have to say that made me a bit nervous. There really was no need to be nervous, plenty of native Italian speak English. Still, you want to put the effort into learning a few key phrases to make your life easier. Below is an infographis that lists the ones that I think were most useful to me while I was there.
  Clothing
While Rome is known to be very stylish, there is a wide breath in that style. What I mean is no matter what you pack you will be in style and fit in just fine. When I travel I remind myself that I am not there to impress anyone. I pack very light as not to have to check any baggage. Waiting for luggage is time out of my exploring. If you want tips on how to pack carry on only please check out my post 7 tips to be carry on only.
Comfort rules
Dress for comfort as Rome requires a fair amount of walking. My friend and I put in well over 46 miles in just 7 days. Make sure your shoes are comfortable as the pavement is quite uneven and there are a lot of stairs. Dress in layers it can be cool in the morning and then heat up in the midday.
Best time to visit Rome and Venice
You will find that Rome is busy all the time but spring and fall seem to be the off periods. You will find the weather is more favorable in spring and fall. While I was there in early October it was 60-75 daily. We had one day of rain and even then it wasn’t too bad. So my suggestion is to look to visiting in Late April – Early June and then again Late September thru Late October.
Exploring Rome on your own
Safety
First, let me address safety, the one thing that might have made me really think twice about wandering alone. If you use common sense then you will be fine. I never once felt unsafe or uncomfortable while I was wandering Rome. There many nights we were out wandering the streets well into the evening hours.
Keep your purse close and closed, pickpockets do exist, we had an experience with one in the metro (future post 11/27). Protect yourself and your property, I suggest this travel bag from Travelon, it has locks on the main sections and is a cross body style that makes it comfortable to walk around all day.
Otherwise, I felt completely safe while I was in Rome. We rode the Metro (subway), the city bus, took trains (both public and high speed) and taxies. The only thing we didn’t get a chance to ride was the trolley. Well, I guess that means I will have to go back for that experience.
Things to avoid in Rome
The termini at late night –
The main station in Rome is the termini or terminal it is probably the only place I felt a bit uneasy at night. I have to say that out of all the areas I covered in Rome this was the only area I felt that way. Just avoid it in the real late night hours as it is the sight of the above-mentioned pickpockets and other rift rafts. During the daylight hours, there are still those types but daylight always makes a body feels safer.
Don’t drive in Rome –
I have driven in Ireland and England and those were nerve-racking enough. Chose to leave the car out in Italy and once you are there you will not regret it. They have their own set of driving rules and they are not posted for those who are visiting. I have never seen people drive like they do in Rome! That is not an experience that you want, be happy taking public transportation or walking. Things really are that close!
Food near attractions–
It can end up costing twice as much and be half as good. Follow the 6 block rule, walk at least 6 blocks away from an attraction before you start looking to eat. You will not only find you save money but you will also enjoy your meal in peace away from the noisy crowds. You will also find that the food tastes so much better if you find a small family owned restaurant!
Forget the diet–
I am not saying go all out and eat everything in sight but do enjoy what Rome has to offer. If you have been following me then you know that I practice the Keto lifestyle. I pretty much stayed low card, but I did not turn down true Italian pasta, wine or gelato. This is probably going to be a one time visit. Don’t ruin it by watching calories! That is not what you want to remember in 20 years!
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Don’t’ pay for water –
Rome is known for its free-flowing fountains, they are located throughout the city. Buy one water to get a bottle but then just refill from one of the fountains, the water is cool and delicious, plus its free! My friend and I use this great neoprene water bottle sleeve. It hung on our purses and was easily accessible.  Water is extremely important when you are walking miles a day, don’t let yourself get dehydrated.
Don’t rush through your trip –
There is so much to see in Rome that there is no way you can see it all. I suggest you do a little homework and research. Decide what are your must see’s and plan on those. Then leave time to wander Rome and indulge in the culture, its ok to get lost. Actually, that is part of its charm. You can be walking along through a historical area and then come out into a bustling mass of tourists or traffic.
Don’t enter a church improperly dressed –
When you enter any church including the Vatican your shoulders and knees must be covered. You will not be allowed in if either body part or uncovered, so no shorts, tank tops, or sundresses. When you go to the Vatican if you are not properly dressed they will make you purchase scarves before you can enter, costing you more money and time!
Don’t take pictures with the characters outside attractions –
They are there to make money and they are not cheap. They can be really pushy or persuasive depending on how you look at it.
Watch out for the flower guys –
They got us on our first day there, but never again. They offer you a flower saying its a gift. There are many who are walking around offering gifts, they are not! I found these guys to be even pushier than the characters. We were going to give him 5 euros no problem. That was not enough for him he wanted 5 from both of us. Somehow he ended up with 15 euros for 4 roses and two very cheesy bracelets. Oh well, it was an experience, try not to have it!
Don’t book your stay too far outside the city center –
This one is a must if you plan on seeing a lot of Rome. Stay within the city center, preferable on Via del Ripetta or Via del Corsa, you will find beautiful rooms that are within easy walking range of all the attractions. I booked a great room at Rarity Suites (future post) they offered a beautiful room great service, easy access to the metro, and everything Rome had to offer.
Things to do in Rome
While there are hundreds of things to see and do in Rome there are several things that stand out and are must-sees. Just keep in mind that you are on vacation and there to enjoy the culture. This is a short list but it should get into areas where you can wander!
Coliseum –
While this one is a must see it does not take long to go through the upper portion and the lines can be very long. May I suggest that you book ahead of your trip and get the skip the line pass. I wish I had booked the night tour and done the underground part as well. The Coliseum was spectacular when lite up at night.

Forum and Palatine Hill –
Everything I research before I went said to do this in two days. My purchased tour would have allowed that had I not confused the days. Anyhow, save these two for a day of their own. There really is too much to see in a few hours and you really want to have time to wander this one extensively.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Pantheon–
Is free to enter and is a beautiful monument, originally a temple to honor all gods. That is what the name means in greek. If you really want to spend some time here and to learn the history of this amazing building I suggest getting the audio tour it is quite reasonable.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Trevi Fountain –
The famous fountain is known for the ritual of tossing a coin in and it guaranteed a return trip to Rome. This is a very popular spot and you can find it wandering the streets. If you want to see it with less of a crowd go in the early morning or late evening those would be your best times to find it with a smaller crowd.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Spanish Steps –
Here is yet another famous Rome historical area. The 135 stairway is the widest in all of Europe. They are named to accommodate the Spanish embassy that is at the base and connect it to the church at the top. The fountain at the foot of the stairs is called Fontana della Barcaccia’ or Fountain of the Ugly Boat. If you go in the early spring the steps will be decked out with flowers.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Rome museums –
All museums are free on Sundays and there are so many to see. Save Sunday for wandering the museums it’s a great way to see a lot of history and learn more about Rome and Italy. Even the Vatican is free, but I would suggest that you forget seeing it on a Sunday, as it will be extremely busy. We managed to see three museums, one was a medical museum on the college campus and another had almost complete rooms from ancient homes. The amount of statues and scultures that Rome poesses is amazing in and of itself, I don’t think that even with a month I could see them all!
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Borghese gardens –
This is a massive area and may take you a full day to explore it all. The gardens are beautiful, the lake area was spectacular. There are several museums and galleries to see. Be prepared to put in a few miles to see it all.
Walking distances in Rome
While you may feel that there is a lot of area in Rome to cover, know that many of the most popular areas are within 30 minutes of each other. All the most popular stops can be reached by taking a metro or walking to it. My friend and I put in 46 miles while we were there and I did not realize how far we had walked. There is so much to see and you are not speed walking, more like meandering through the world oldest city.

Aug 2021 BTO Analysis: Queen’s Arc
One of the seven BTOs launched for Aug 2021, Queen’s Arc at Queenstown may not be located next to an MRT station, but it is surrounded by a slew of F&B options and is within a short walking distance to IKEA Alexandra. If you are making a flat selection in this development, we consider what your best options are.
At a glance
BTO Queen’s Arc Location Along Queensway. Bounded by Queen’s Crescent (future road) and Queensway Drive (future road) No. of units 610 Unit types 3- and 4-room flats No. of blocks 2 + 1 (block of rental flats) No. of floors 23 to 39 storeys Site facilities A community hub comprising a childcare centre, an eating house, a minimart, and other shops. Queen’s Arc Site
The surrounds of the BTO site were bustling during our site visit. Traffic was heavy along Queensway in the afternoon and will likely become busier with the expansion of Alexandra Hospital on the adjacent site beside Queen’s Arc. The redevelopment for the hospital is scheduled for completion in 2030.
Alexandra Hospital’s expansion. The site will sit adjacent to Queen’s Arc BTO.
Image: The Straits Times
While the BTO isn’t located next to an MRT station—Queenstown MRT on the East-West line is situated more than a 10-min walk away—there are a lot of buses (around 11!) that service the bus stops along Queensway in front of the BTO. These can take you to the CBD and most major neighbourhoods in Singapore.
There are no big shopping malls nearby, but you do get IKEA Alexandra within a short walking distance away. In terms of food options, you have the option of hawker fare at popular hawker centres Alexandra Village and ABC Brickworks as well as fast food eateries and restaurants located at Alexandra Central and Anchorpoint Shopping Centre. The Queen’s Arc site itself will also see a coffee shop.
For supermarkets, the nearest ones are at NTUC Fairprice along Stirling Road and the Cold Storage within Anchorpoint Shopping Centre. Within the BTO site, there will be a minimart as well.
Which unit should you pick for Queen’s Arc?
3-room flats
Most of the stacks here are 4-room units. If you are thinking of getting a 3-room flat, you only have stacks 129 and 131 to choose from. There isn’t a huge difference in these two stacks.
Both stacks are likely to get some afternoon sun, coming in from the northwest direction from March to September. The consolation is that because they are north-south facing, you are likely to experience some decent breeze.
The 3-room stacks are also facing the drop-off point, so you will want to avoid units on the lower floors if you don’t want to be disturbed by drop-off activities e.g. loading and unloading of goods, passenger pick-ups, etc.
The stacks are located relatively near the lifts. Consider investing in privacy screens near your front entrance to maintain more privacy in your apartment.
4-room flats
Afternoon sun: For 4-room stacks, stacks 105, 107, 133 and 135 are the ones to consider if you want to get less of the afternoon sun. Both these stacks will get some afternoon sun coming from the southwest direction from September to March, but the heat will be slightly alleviated as they are partially blocked by the stack before them.
Sun direction in April
Sun direction in October
Privacy: If you don’t want neighbours looking in through your front door when they walk by, look to stacks 107, 113, 127 and 133. However, depending on the design of the BTO, they might be able to see through your service yard as they walk along the common corridors. Check HDB’s 3D model for Queen’s Arc for more information.
Traffic noise: Traffic noise is likely going to a problem for stacks 101, 103, 117 and 119, which are facing a road junction and arterial road Queensway.
Queensway is a busy arterial road
Car park: Don’t want to be subjected to fumes and the revving of engines? Avoid stacks near the car park if you are picking a unit on the lower floors (the car park has 6 storeys). Stacks 135 and 137 have their service yards looking into the car park, while stacks 105, 107, 109 and 111 have the main areas of the home looking into the car park.
Human activity zones: Because of the higher concentration of human activity in zones like the pavilions, playgrounds and fitness corners, you are likely going to get some noise disturbance if your stack is facing them. These are the stacks most likely affected: 109, 111, 121, 123, 133, 135, 137 and 139.

A Sort-Of Defense of YouTube TV’s Price Increase
Tumblr media
I like having cable TV. More than that, I like having good cable TV. Where I live, Spectrum is the only traditional cable TV offered, and much like other traditional cable companies, they can get pricey after the promotional period ends. That is something I don’t want to deal with, even if the Spectrum cable experience, either through their set-top boxes or through a Roku, is pretty good. If only traditional cable companies could be transparent.
Because I have no interest in dealing with a satellite dish, my next option is an online solution. There’s a few big ones: Sling, AT&T TV Now, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, and Philo. There are a few others beyond that, but these are the major ones. When these services first started, they were attractive because many of them were priced around $40 a month. Over time, the prices have increased higher and higher, reaching the $65 price YouTube TV is at now, up from the $50 I subscribed at a few months ago. Considering this, and because I’ve used all the services but Hulu + Live, in my experience, YouTube TV is second to none. While other services may be initially cheaper, when you option them up to the level of channels and features where YouTube TV is, you’ll find they can reach the same price and the experience of the other services is just not as good. While $65 is not an attractive price, here are at least a few reasons why, at this moment, I’m sticking with YouTube TV.
The Experience
Before I talk about how great YouTube TV is, let's compare it to the other services. Take Sling, a service that has barely changed since 2015. Sure, they’ve improved the guide, they’ve neatened up the show info panel, but it’s essentially the same app, and it looks and feels like it. The experience just isn’t as smooth as other platforms, and has glaring issues when viewed from someone going to the service from traditional cable. With DVR on Sling, there are no limits on pausing or fast forwarding with a recorded show, but live TV is a much different game. Few channels allow the user to pause and rewind live TV, and the ones that do don’t allow you to fast forward through commercials. The only way to pause live TV on a channel that doesn’t support it is to record the show, and immediately start playing it. That kind of workaround is just not acceptable.
The same rings true for the other services. The last time I used AT&T TV Now, there was no ability for pausing live TV, but it seems they have added it from what I’ve read. Also from what I’ve read, it doesn’t seem as though they’ve improved the poor performance. Hulu + Live makes you pay for the enhanced DVR to give you pausing live TV, which brings the monthly cost to $64 (look familiar?). Philo on the other hand I really liked. Great overall feel; I just wish they had a channel guide for when you are watching a channel (you have to leave the channel to go to the full screen guide, which stops whatever you are watching). Plus Philo has unlimited DVR like YouTube TV and unlike the other platforms, but the recordings only last 30 days as opposed to YouTube TV’s 9 months, and pausing live TV works, but you can’t fast forward through commercials.
Some of the other platforms feel worse than traditional cable, others are on par, but YouTube TV feels better than cable. YouTube TV maintains the same functionality of DVR on cable, and gains unlimited storage with a recording lasting 9 months, as well as a great easy interface with the ability to remove channels from the guide a user doesn’t care about. That’s worth it to me.
The Amount of Channels and Locals
YouTube TV is not the only service with local channels, but it’s a big reason why I switched from Sling and Philo when I had them.
Philo is able to be $20 a month because they don’t carry locals and channels that air sports, and because sports channels are owned by companies that have other channels, cable providers can either carry it all or carry nothing. So no TBS because sports, no FX because ESPN, and no SyFy because Comcast Sports. That’s a fair amount of channels missing.
Sling has sports channels, but it is able to be $30 for a few reasons. One, they were able to negotiate an a la carte service with the cable channels, probably because they were the first in the game. Plus, I’d imagine a majority of Sling users subscribe to multiple packages, so it can’t be all that much of a loss for cable channels. In addition to packaging categories, they keep Disney-owned channels in their own separate Sling Orange base package. This existed before Disney bought Fox, so not all of the currently owned Disney channels like FX are with Disney Channel, Freeform and ESPN in Sling Orange, but because of how much it costs subscribers for access to ESPN, they’ve separated the service into two base packages: one with: Orange for $30, one without: Blue for $30 (which also comes with a lot more channels), and one with both for $45, and the savings for not having ESPN are insane. Packages are something YouTube TV should adopt.
The second reason Sling is cheaper is because they don’t have local channels. Yes, watching locals through an antenna delivers better audio/video quality and a faster signal compared to the slight delay of cable, but where I am, an antenna doesn’t work very well, and even if it did, there’s no cheap elegant way to DVR local channels. Sling’s AirTV is a joke, and HDHomeRun and Tablo work pretty well, but they are no substitute for using one app that has both locals and cable channels, and there’s where YouTube TV, or another service with locals, becomes very attractive, even if I am paying more for that experience.
Overall Pricing
On the surface, YouTube TV’s price is a lot, but when you directly compare the other services to get the same channels and as close to the same features, you’ll find they’re similar.
Sling
The base price for one of the two base packages is $30, but to combine them costs $45. Then add the $5 upgraded DVR, which takes you from 10 hours to 50 hours of recordings that don’t expire. To get the same amount of channels would require you to add the “4 extras deal” which brings in the Kids Extra, Lifestyle Extra, Comedy Extra and News Extra packages for $12 (which would cost $20 without the deal), and that brings you to $62, which doesn’t include locals. Of course you can pick and choose the packages you want, especially if you don’t care about ESPN, but if you are looking channel for channel, you’ll only save $3 compared to YouTube TV.
AT&T TV Now
Yes, you get locals, and yes, the $55 base package is cheaper by ten bucks, but you are getting a base package listing with 45 channels, much less than YouTube TV. The next one up is $80 at 60 channels, which does include HBO Max, so that’s something. The packages range further up from $93 up to $135 for the premium channels. As far as deals go, you aren’t getting them from AT&T.
Hulu + Live
Subscribing to Live also gives you regular Hulu, so that’s a plus, but you still have to pay to pause live TV, bringing the price up to $64. With that you do get locals, but you’re missing channels I like to have, like AMC, IFC, and Comedy Central. It’s an okay deal to get Hulu with the service, and has regional sports, but overall not the same experience.
Philo
I really like Philo. It makes me angry that it is missing so many channels because it’s really nice to use. At $20, you’ve really got to be okay with missing some top channels like TBS, TNT, USA, SyFy, and FX. Great DVR, great experience. It’s so close, but so far.
So, there. At least in comparison, the price is closer to other services than you might think. The pricing, however, leads us to...
The Big Problem
I’ve been keeping an eye on AT&T TV Now for months when I noticed their prices were much higher than the competition. When the service first started as DirecTV Now, the price was consistent with the other services, around $40 or so, nothing crazy. Then as time went on, the service kept raising and raising its price, once as high as $65 for the base package where the user was forced to have HBO. Now HBO is separate for $55, but the low amount of channels in the package certainly draws attention. Initially I was shocked at how bad of a deal the service was, but then the more I thought about it, the more I realized that this is going to be a trend.
Sling and YouTube TV have been public with the fact that they haven’t exactly turned a profit with their services, probably due to the fact that of the ~90,000,000 subscribers of an MVPD, only around 8 million subscribe to an online MVPD. I was under the impression that the reason traditional cable TV costs so much, beyond the fact that cable channels are expensive, was because of the amount of technical support and technician staff they have to pay, and the overall infrastructure they had to maintain. With a service like Sling, I assumed those costs would be dramatically lower, but perhaps this isn’t the case. Or it isn’t the case when you only have >3 million subscribers.
Whatever the case may be, most online cable services are now around the price of traditional cable TV, at least for the price of service minus equipment rental. In my area for me to bundle TV and Internet with Spectrum at their promotional pricing would’ve cost around $110 after tax and fees, with no rental fees for equipment as I own my own modem and would use a Roku for Spectrum TV. With just internet at $70 and YouTube TV at $65, we’re well above Spectrum’s bundle, but that Spectrum promotional price will expire, and I’m sure the cost would add another $30, so we reach the same price eventually. The difference being, to my knowledge, there’s no DVR without spending $15 for one DVR box a month, but I would get the local subchannels YouTube TV doesn’t have.
Reaction to the Price Increase
The main thing that somewhat bothers me is the outrage online from some claiming that YouTube TV’s initial goal was to be better than cable, and this price increase, especially the amount of the increase, strays from that goal. To which I disagree. Traditional cable hides fees and taxes, causing their advertised price to be far less. YouTube TV does not do this. Traditional cable has promotional pricing that not only expires but you won’t find out the true cost until it expires, causing the more angry among us to call and complain for a lower price, a sometimes successful task. YouTube TV has no promotional pricing. Traditional cable forces you to rent equipment to fully use its services. YouTube TV’s full features are available at no extra cost on every device it supports.
The point is YouTube TV’s goal to be a better cable service is not equal to YouTube TV being cheap. Especially at the high level of features and polish that YouTube TV has over its competition. One could fairly complain they don’t see the value in spending $65 a month on a cable TV service, and I totally understand that. When I heard of the ViacomCBS addition to YouTube TV back in May, I thought the most it could raise was $5, but $15 more was a shock, and really made me reconsider my YouTube TV subscription. Then I considered the channel set and features of YouTube TV compared to other providers, both online and traditional, and it’s still a pretty solid service for the price. That being said, I can totally understand people who were on the fence already with the service priced at $50 are now completely turned off at $65. It makes me wonder how much of that price increase was due to the lack of profitability, or if ViacomCBS is completely overcharging for their channels.
Conclusion
While YouTube TV’s increase to $65 was dramatically more than I was anticipating, the service is still second to none for those who like cable TV. I may not take full advantage of all the channels on the service, but the ones I do are a joy to watch because of YouTube TV. I don’t have to worry about adjusting the antenna to get locals to come in, and I don’t have to think about how the DVR works. Other services may be cheaper, but YouTube TV is a noticeably higher quality product in comparison. YouTube TV is as close as it gets to traditional cable while offering a better product without the compromise found on other services at a realistically lower price than cable, once you factor in rental and miscellaneous fees and taxes.
For the time being, I’m okay with paying more for a better product to keep it better. However I’d also be very happy if YouTube TV can add packages instead of its one-size-fits-all method, which seems likely considering the wording in their price increase press releases, and ViacomCBS stating YouTube TV will get the rest of their cable channels, which generally show up in the higher packages on cable (unless YouTube TV can pull some magic and add them at no extra cost, which is incredibly unlikely).

PHOT301 - Mileage May Vary Shoot #6 - 27/12/2019
The fog falls upon the land and covers everything in a fine blanket, obscuring the vision and dampening my clothes. On a dank late December morning, me and Harriet went for a wander around the village to take advantage of the mythical fog, in the hopes to get some good shots, and to document the fallen Citroen Berlingo. There is something about the fog which places an air of mystery to the scene, perhaps because of the mise en scene of motion pictures having an atmosphere to theme. There is certainly a difference between photographing fog in the day, as the background gradually becomes more and more diffused. When at night, the artificial lights from sodium lampposts and buildings shines through, causing halos of light around them.
The EOS-1 was used for this shoot again, as it has become my current favourite film camera to use, and it was the only one I brought with me on the Christmas break. As normal, it was paired with the 50mm F1.8 STM to no surprise. Thankfully, the EOS-1 is partially weather sealed, so the drizzly fog was no bother to me, despite it having a small crack in the body which can potentially let some stuff in. Although it did have this small crack, it was totally fine, albeit slightly soaked. The EOS-1 was loaded up with some freshly expired Kodak Colour Plus 200, which expired in June 2018. I slightly slacked with shooting expired film, and haven’t shot as much as I had wanted to - but one is better than none, right? As it has only been expired for 18 months or so, it won’t have changed much, if at all. It was exposed at 200 asa, and my aperture was set to around F2.2 - 2.5, and the shutter speed ranged a fair bit as the fog took a lot of the light away - I don’t think anything went about 1/250s on this day. Please note, that I scanned this in a weird order, so it isn’t totally in chronological order, the first shot on this roll was taken in Exeter in early December 2019 (white Renault Master and the yellow parking sign).
The walk was rather interesting, as I have never really shot in these kind of conditions before. It seemed a shame to not take advantage of this fog, when it could potentially create some interestingly aesthetic images. In essence, we walked a little loop around the village which took us behind the main housing estate, near farmland and onto the main road.
Days prior, we were sat in the living room and we heard, as well as saw, an air ambulance flying around the village. We thought that obviously something serious had happened, and were quite worried, of course. It transpired that someone caused a traffic collision with a Citroen Berlingo, involving another vehicle. The roads in this area are notorious for causing crashes, and as the weather during the week had been very wet and the visibility was poor, it was inevitable that it could happen - and it just took someone possibly going a bit to fast to find that out. On the 27th, we decided to go out for this walk, and said ‘hopefully that Berlingo will still be there’. Annoyingly, it had already gone, leaving a lot of debris from the collision. Just to add insult to injury, it was still in the field around an hour prior to use walking there, as Harriet’s mother had driven past it before we went out, and it was still there. However, that didn’t stop me from creating some image at the scene.
Tumblr media
You can see the aftermath of the Berlingo’s path of destruction. By the look of the tracks behind where this was taken, the driver had overcooked it on the left bearing bend, taking out a give way sign, colliding with a second vehicle and then hitting the curb on Bath Road, causing the van to somersault into this field occupied with Geese. The wreckage can thankfully be seen here with this news article - Link.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some more remnants of the Berlingo. The scent of oil and diesel hung in the air, and the glass crunched under our feet. The top photo features some liquid spillage, with some absorbent material applied to the area. The middle image is laden with plastic clips and other related ephemera, with the bottom showing the grass covered in safety glass.
I do like the remnants of the past in these shots. They have a spectrality, as well as a hauntological aspect to them. The area is haunted by the ghost of the Berlingo, and the past that is represented in these photographs, in addition to the photo used in the news article. As time passes, the spectre of this incident will always be omnipresent, additionally with the other incidents that have happened here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was no real rationale to what I was looking for, apart from cars older than 2009 with a level of intrigue of their appearance. Thankfully, Colerne features a lot of these kind of vehicles, with mossy paintwork and missing parts. What I found fascinating was the way that the mould grew and was changed by the forms of the Fiat Doblo and the Honda CR-V, especially the Fiat. The name badge totally obscures the growth of the mould, leaving a perfect white space below it where the mould hasn’t grown. This can also be seen with the CR-V, by looking at the offside door handle. I particularly enjoyed the car park of Italian automobiles. Some of these are quite rare now, especially the Alfa Romeo 145 and the Fiat Uno, which are both plagued with mechanical gremlins and poor bodywork issues. I took the same photograph with my Instax 100, but it just didn’t seem to work, just like a lot of those shots. This is where the quality and tonality of 135 film surpasses the Instax of previous, despite it’s inherently larger image size.
This shoot marked the end of shooting in time for PHOT301. Film photography takes time with development and scanning, which adds up when its multiple rolls and the only process for the project. Whilst I hate the trope that film slows you down, I have to admit with all the temerity to say that I do agree. Shooting film has totally changed how I make my work over the years. Since there is a finite amount of images, which also cost money, it makes one think harder about the shot. There is also the ability to not be able to change your ISO during your roll, meaning you’re stuck at that sensitivity until development. The whole process is what makes me come back every time to photograph with it. I do like to shoot digitally for my professional work, but film will always be used for personal projects, which this is certainly that. Something I wish I had more of, is the foggy weather. I did take the 5D out in the fog when I was back in Plymouth in early January, but it wasn’t enough to make up a shoot and wasn’t related to PHOT301, as it was more of a relaxed shooting experience. However, this is now the end of shooting for PHOT301, and anything that is shot after this will be used for the early stages of the FMP.

110: My Neighbors: Never really talk to any of my neighbors at my dads or my moms. Pretty sure they get annoyed with how loud I play my music

109: Gas Prices: i remember when it costed $5 or $6 a gallon. Please stay at $2.35

169.  "Don’t worry, I’m used to it.”
170.  "Stop laughing”

Are Grubby Mechanics Putting Your Life in Danger Behind the Wheel?
Here’s the story of how my wife gave birth in the back of our broken down Honda CRV on the side of the highway, and the “Lego-shaped” device that could have prevented this nightmare from happening…
Notice: around 50,000 of these pocket-sized devices are purchased every month and mechanics are FURIOUS about it. Find out why here »
Here’s what happened—
I was at the mechanic for a quick battery check.
My car had been acting slow to start lately so I wanted to get it checked out.
With a new baby on the way, I wanted to be extra sure that our car was safe.
I was shocked when the mechanic told me that both my battery and alternator were ruined…
I asked if it could possibly just be the battery but I was assured that although the battery needed to be replaced, it wasn’t the only issue.
I was a little suspicious but here was an expert giving me his word…
So I trusted him.
Now I don’t ever have to guess if my mechanic is honest, thanks to this small amazing tool.
Ten days later and I finally was able to pick up the car…
A friend later explained to me how I got put on what’s called the “gravy train” which is a term used for mechanics who purposefully take forever on their repairs so that they can charge you more for labor…
I was annoyed that it took so long. And then I was FURIOUS when I saw the price tag…
“$700?!” I stood there with my mouth open…
“You told me it would be $400.00 max, what happened?!”
“Well, the battery was easy,” the mechanic said, “but the alternator was more difficult to replace than we initially thought so I had to charge more for labor cost. Oh and we also had to special order the parts…”
I later did some research about labor costs and parts, and come to find out that overworked and underpaid mechanics can quietly mark up parts anywhere from 25%-50% and that labor cost can vary anywhere from $85 to $135 PER HOUR!1
I expressed how uneasy I felt about the extra cost to the mechanic.
But what could I do? The work was already done…
At least the car was safe and ready for our new baby, right?
Or so I thought..
I paid the bill using the savings I had put aside for our hospital delivery bill and dragged my feet out the door.
Fast forward to my wife giving birth in the back of our car on the side of the freeway—
It was the middle of the night and my wife’s contractions started FAST.
We hurried into the car and off we went.
The hospital was about 10 minutes away when the unthinkable happened.
The car started to sputter and slow down…
“Oh no… this can’t be happening,” I thought to myself.
I pulled off into the emergency lane.
And that’s when it DIED. Right there on the side of the freeway.
All I could do was call 911 while my wife cried in the background.
One very expensive ambulance ride later and our baby boy was safely delivered.
What should have been one of the most memorable days of our lives, turned into something out of a horror movie…
A couple days after we got home, I called up my buddy who often works on his own cars, thinking maybe he could help.
He stopped by the next day. When I went to go pop the hood, he told me to wait…
“Hang on a sec,” he said and climbed into the driver’s side and plugged a small device that looked like a Lego piece into the port underneath my steering wheel.
He then looked at his phone for a minute and climbed back out.
“Hey, so you’re not going to believe this but your battery is faulty…”
“What…? Are you sure?”
“Yup, I just tested it with my new diagnostic tool, FIXD. The results came back showing that your battery needs to be replaced…”
I popped the hood in disbelief and sure enough there was my old battery… still in my car. The mechanic never replaced it.
FIXD Could Have Saved Me $100s And Years Of Regret!
I was too defeated and humiliated to tell my friend about the mechanic fiasco.
When I called to confront the mechanic for not replacing the battery he claimed that “he forgot” and he even followed it up with “Sorry about that…”
I was refunded for the “non-battery replacement” but the damage was already done…
I still have no idea if my alternator even needed to be replaced and it makes me sick to my stomach thinking about it.
The next day I ordered my own FIXD because I never wanted to feel that humiliated and frustrated again.
Owning this FIXD device (I actually ordered 3 for family) makes me feel more confident as a car owner because I can go to any mechanic and tell THEM what needs to be fixed.
It feels great knowing I’ll never get ripped off again. I just wish that I had known about it sooner, I could have saved my family from a very stressful night.
So What is FIXD And Why Do Thieving Mechanics Hate It So Much?
FIXD is a simple, easy-to-use diagnostic tool that you can plug directly into the port of any car that is made from 1996 and up.
It takes less than 60 seconds to install and relays important information about your car to an app on your phone.
FIXD Is The Honest Car Mechanic You Can Fit in Your Pocket
Diagnose issues with your car in seconds without overpaying a mechanic to do the same exact thing…
Send you maintenance reminders— (which is great for busy folks like college students or moms who are always running around and maybe need a reminder)
Continuously monitor your car’s health so you’re not suddenly stuck on the side of the road waiting for hours for a tow truck to arrive…
Keep a log of past issues— which is HUGE if you are in the market to purchase a used car and want to make sure the seller isn’t trying to hide anything funny…
Monitor more than one car at a time (saving you $1,000s in unneeded)
Track the “accurate mileage” based on FIXD’s real-time tracker… not based on a mechanic’s “gut instinct”
Prioritize car issues by urgency so you’re not trying to decide what’s necessary… and what mechanics like to “blow out” of proportion
Send you manufacturer service suggestions based on your vehicle’s performance
